Today we're going to add two new colors to your Cantonese palette. Luna: Ooh, I love colors. Which ones? Lucas: White and black. In Cantonese, white is 白色. Luna: 白色. Lucas: Yeah, that's it. And black is 黑色. Luna: 黑色. So similar, just the first sound changes. Lucas: Exactly. 白 is white, 黑 is black. Now let's use them in sentences. If I point to something white, I can say: 呢個係白色. Luna: 呢個係白色. That means 'This is white'. Lucas: Right. And for something black: 呢個係黑色. Luna: 呢個係黑色. Easy enough. Can I try making my own? Lucas: Please do. Luna: Um, let's see... I have a black pen here. 呢個係黑色. Lucas: Perfect. You're a natural. Now, if you want to say you like black, you can say: 我鍾意黑色. Luna: 我鍾意黑色. I like black. That's useful. What about 'I like white'? Lucas: 那 would be 我鍾意白色. Luna: 我鍾意白色. Got it. Lucas: Let's do a little scene. Imagine we're shopping for T-shirts. I hold up a white one and say: 呢件衫係白色. Luna: 呢件衫係白色. This shirt is white. And if I hold up a black one? Lucas: 呢件衫係黑色. Luna: 呢件衫係黑色. So 衫 means shirt. Lucas: Yeah. And if you want to say you like the black one, you could say: 我鍾意黑色嗰件. Luna: Oh, that's a bit more advanced. I'll stick with 我鍾意黑色 for now. Lucas: That's fine. Let's practice the basic ones a few more times. Repeat after me: 白色. Luna: 白色. Lucas: 黑色. Luna: 黑色. Lucas: 呢個係白色. Luna: 呢個係白色. Lucas: 呢個係黑色. Luna: 呢個係黑色. Lucas: 我鍾意黑色. Luna: 我鍾意黑色. Lucas: You know, it's funny — learning a few colors really opens up how you can describe things. Luna: Totally.
