- 0:00Speaker 1: Where should I begin? Can we talk about this? Say?
- 0:02Speaker 2: What are you trying to about? Beyond the usual controversial talking.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Welcome to prepare yourself.
- 0:14Speaker 4: Okay for Craig preparing my dew spectacle here.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Particulate stimulating gets you right in there. There you go back,
- 0:27Speaker 1: you start becoming a team. This is the Craigcullin Show. Jesus,
- 0:33Speaker 1: oh god, no, start talking.
- 0:35Speaker 5: Talk this station as well, the ultimate power in the universe.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Your host's a good man, Craig.
- 0:42Speaker 6: That's right.
- 0:43Speaker 7: This is the Craig Collins Show ks c V, the
- 0:46Speaker 7: voice of Texas AM seven hundred. I don't have any
- 0:49Speaker 7: control of the video, so I think it's just gonna
- 0:51Speaker 7: be on the break screen until we can switch that
- 0:54Speaker 7: because I left that with Lucas in the corner over there,
- 0:56Speaker 7: who's running the board and doing the video, doing a
- 0:58Speaker 7: bunch of stuff and hitting buttons, which will be great.
- 1:01Speaker 7: But yeah, a lot of things to talk about today,
- 1:04Speaker 7: a lot to get to. We have a veteran voices segment.
- 1:07Speaker 7: It was supposed to be two vets, so there was
- 1:09Speaker 7: a second veteran scheduled for six o'clock and it was
- 1:13Speaker 7: totally my fault how that didn't wind up working out.
- 1:16Speaker 6: It was not her fault at all.
- 1:17Speaker 7: There was an email that I thought it responded to
- 1:19Speaker 7: that I didn't respond to, and when I finally got
- 1:22Speaker 7: back there, she's like, yeah, I would love to come,
- 1:24Speaker 7: just not today. I don't have time anymore because it
- 1:27Speaker 7: was this morning. And so she'll be here next week.
- 1:30Speaker 7: So we will be talking to a mental health professional
- 1:32Speaker 7: and a veteran who winds up helping a lot of
- 1:34Speaker 7: other vets in the world of mental health, because that
- 1:38Speaker 7: is an absolute challenge that I think, there's so many
- 1:41Speaker 7: different tentacles to that discussion. But she will be here.
- 1:44Speaker 7: A female veteran, Angie will be here next week. I
- 1:48Speaker 7: will also be talking a little bit to one of
- 1:49Speaker 7: my new friends who's with a veteran outdoor organization that
- 1:53Speaker 7: encourages vets to get outside and how important that is.
- 1:57Speaker 7: Patriot Outdoors Initiative is the name of it. He is
- 2:00Speaker 7: one of the two founders of it. He will be
- 2:01Speaker 7: in studio to chat with me.
- 2:03Speaker 1: For a bit.
- 2:04Speaker 7: You know, it's funny I'll say this, and I don't
- 2:06Speaker 7: think I'm supposed to, but he just told me and
- 2:08Speaker 7: I thought was funny. His buddy, who I think is
- 2:11Speaker 7: also obviously also a veteran, but also a big part
- 2:15Speaker 7: of this organization, maybe a co founder of it. Was
- 2:17Speaker 7: supposed to also come, but then he did physical therapy
- 2:20Speaker 7: and he can't make it. And that makes sense, by
- 2:22Speaker 7: the way, I think PT is probably hard depending on
- 2:25Speaker 7: what you're getting therapied and how physically you know, challenging
- 2:30Speaker 7: things are. So I thought that was pretty funny that
- 2:32Speaker 7: he just sat down one of the two guys who
- 2:34Speaker 7: will be on in a half an hour to promote
- 2:36Speaker 7: his organization. And one of the things they mentioned, he's
- 2:39Speaker 7: a US Marine and an Aggie, which I'm told by
- 2:43Speaker 7: other veterans who've been on the show, a Jimmy X
- 2:45Speaker 7: among them, that I'm supposed to make fun of Texas
- 2:48Speaker 7: A and M, and I don't think I'm gonna with
- 2:50Speaker 7: this marine. I don't think I'm gonna do it. Jimmy
- 2:51Speaker 7: can call in. If Jimmy X wants to call in
- 2:53Speaker 7: and crap on the Aggies, that's on him. That's a
- 2:56Speaker 7: him move, that's not a me move as far as
- 2:58Speaker 7: that goes. But you can ras the Marine when he
- 3:01Speaker 7: gets in studio again to chat with us in just
- 3:03Speaker 7: a little bit. There is some news stuff that I
- 3:05Speaker 7: do want to talk about one of the more interesting
- 3:08Speaker 7: things to me, and I'm not gonna play audio. I'm
- 3:11Speaker 7: just gonna tell you about it. Is a thing that
- 3:14Speaker 7: happened in the world of the WNBA. And I got
- 3:17Speaker 7: to tell you before i even get into this topic itself,
- 3:21Speaker 7: how amazed I am that the WNBA is a topic
- 3:24Speaker 7: that I've now talked about multiple times in the last
- 3:27Speaker 7: few months. I'm not a huge watcher of it. I'm
- 3:30Speaker 7: not trying to be like a hater. I'm not trying
- 3:32Speaker 7: to say that WNBA is terrible and I don't want
- 3:34Speaker 7: to watch any part of it at all, But like,
- 3:37Speaker 7: it hasn't been a thing that attracted me to watch
- 3:40Speaker 7: it a lot over the last few years. It's just
- 3:42Speaker 7: not been something I'm terribly interested in. And then somewhat recently,
- 3:47Speaker 7: one because of Caitlin Clark, but then two because of
- 3:50Speaker 7: also the drama and everything that surrounded Caitlin Clark. I
- 3:53Speaker 7: have been checking in on the stories that exist within
- 3:56Speaker 7: the world of the WNBA a lot, Like multiple times
- 3:59Speaker 7: I've seen this go viral and that go viral. The
- 4:02Speaker 7: most recent version of a discussion in this orbit is
- 4:05Speaker 7: Nancy Armore. She is a USA Today columnist. She wrote
- 4:10Speaker 7: this big article in which she essentially blamed Caitlyn Clark
- 4:14Speaker 7: for the way that Caitlin Clark is getting treated in
- 4:16Speaker 7: the WNBA and what that inevitably does when fans reach
- 4:20Speaker 7: out to some of the people who have been beating
- 4:22Speaker 7: her up and yell at them. So the assessment is
- 4:26Speaker 7: that Caitlin Clark should do a better job defending the
- 4:29Speaker 7: other women in the WNBA who may or may not
- 4:32Speaker 7: be people that are actually, you know, beating the crap
- 4:35Speaker 7: of her on a daily basis, which I think is
- 4:37Speaker 7: kind of surreal, and I absolutely disagreed with the article itself.
- 4:43Speaker 7: And in the article, the craziest thing that the USA
- 4:45Speaker 7: Today columnist did, she actually referenced Emmett Till. Emmittt Till
- 4:49Speaker 7: is a person who, of course horrifically was killed in
- 4:54Speaker 7: Chicago because of his race a long time ago, is
- 4:58Speaker 7: what a lot of us could say. It has nothing
- 5:00Speaker 7: to do with Caitlyn Clark. But the assessment from the
- 5:04Speaker 7: USA Today columnist was that Caitlin Clark needs to better
- 5:08Speaker 7: protect black female athletes who play in the WNBA with her,
- 5:11Speaker 7: because white rage could hurt those individuals. And it was
- 5:15Speaker 7: surreal to read every part of it, I'll tell you.
- 5:18Speaker 7: But what's even crazier is she has already come out
- 5:20Speaker 7: and apologized for it. The Calumnist eventually got called out
- 5:24Speaker 7: by her own media side, because everybody is very woke
- 5:28Speaker 7: and very upset and very angry at anything you do
- 5:30Speaker 7: in this world. So she got shamed by the left
- 5:33Speaker 7: into apologizing for the things she wrote about. And I
- 5:36Speaker 7: saw that Dave Portnoy and a bunch of people that
- 5:39Speaker 7: just in general were amused by every part of this
- 5:42Speaker 7: have been commenting on how crazy woke even covering sports
- 5:46Speaker 7: has become, and so I don't know. I definitely thought,
- 5:49Speaker 7: as did a lot of people who reacted to the
- 5:52Speaker 7: story initially, that it was horrible, that a lot of
- 5:54Speaker 7: aspects of it were uniquely terrible. But the more you
- 5:57Speaker 7: think about it, the crazier it is that someone made
- 6:00Speaker 7: a reference like that and then within twenty four hours
- 6:03Speaker 7: immediately gave to the side of the Aisle that she
- 6:06Speaker 7: was writing for that was incredibly mad at her, based
- 6:09Speaker 7: on not protecting Caitlyn Clark, I think, but overly using
- 6:13Speaker 7: something like Emmett Till as an example that connected to
- 6:16Speaker 7: sports at all. I no one really wanted to defend
- 6:19Speaker 7: Caitlin Clark at all in this and I do think
- 6:21Speaker 7: that's crazy. And so the last thing I'll say, and
- 6:23Speaker 7: then we are going to take our first break. I
- 6:24Speaker 7: think my camera might have died, so we're going to
- 6:26Speaker 7: have to fix that in a little bit. But the
- 6:29Speaker 7: first thing I'll the last thing I'll tell you about
- 6:31Speaker 7: this topic is that to me, Caitlyn Clark is behaving
- 6:34Speaker 7: exactly the way that she should behave And what I
- 6:36Speaker 7: mean by that is she's putting her head down and
- 6:39Speaker 7: she's playing a sport. It feels very similar to when
- 6:42Speaker 7: Michael Jordan had the crap kicked out of him by
- 6:44Speaker 7: the Detroit Pistons. That's something I remember. I'm old enough
- 6:47Speaker 7: to remember it, and honestly, it's exactly the same type
- 6:51Speaker 7: of style of play that inevitably hopefully gets you the
- 6:54Speaker 7: respect of the other players so they stop beating the
- 6:57Speaker 7: crap out of you.
- 6:58Speaker 6: But who knows.
- 6:58Speaker 7: We'll see if that actually occurs. We'll see if that
- 7:00Speaker 7: actually happens. I just think it's really interesting that right now,
- 7:04Speaker 7: one of the conversations that's missing from Nancy Armore apologizing
- 7:08Speaker 7: for using the story of someone who is lynched to
- 7:11Speaker 7: talk about a political or sports topic. The number one
- 7:15Speaker 7: thing missing is she's not apologizing to Caitlin Clark. She
- 7:18Speaker 7: seems to think that Caitlyn Clark still has a job
- 7:21Speaker 7: to do to step up and protect people that are
- 7:24Speaker 7: beating the crapit of her on a daily basis. And
- 7:26Speaker 7: the WNBA voted her the twelfth best guard in the league,
- 7:29Speaker 7: which to fans was insane but all right, And again,
- 7:32Speaker 7: as I said, I'm not a huge fan of the WNBA,
- 7:35Speaker 7: I'm kind of surprised I'm paying so much attention to it,
- 7:38Speaker 7: but it's hard to look away right now, mostly because
- 7:41Speaker 7: of how much the league is failing a star that
- 7:44Speaker 7: is actually transcending the sport a bit and getting a
- 7:46Speaker 7: lot of attention that it didn't have a short time ago.
- 7:49Speaker 7: But we'll take a break a lot coming up. This
- 7:51Speaker 7: is the Craig Collins Show, KSV the Voice of Texas.
- 7:55Speaker 8: Hi, y'all, it's Kathy from Baker Mortgage. You know, with
- 7:57Speaker 8: all the scary stuff we've been through, still true that
- 8:00Speaker 8: timing is everything and the time to buy is now.
- 8:03Speaker 8: But don't go looking without a solid preapproval in hand.
- 8:07Speaker 8: And this includes an application and a detailed discussion about
- 8:10Speaker 8: property taxes. If you didn't have the talk you know
- 8:13Speaker 8: about property taxes, you really don't know what you're preapproved for.
- 8:17Speaker 8: That should make you wonder what else they may have
- 8:19Speaker 8: left out. Mortgages are personal. Let's face it, We're dealing
- 8:22Speaker 8: with your home and your money, and it doesn't get
- 8:25Speaker 8: much more personal than that. When it's the largest transaction
- 8:28Speaker 8: that most people will ever be involved in. Imagine having
- 8:31Speaker 8: someone on your side looking out after you. What a concept.
- 8:35Speaker 8: We audit your closing statement to make sure you're not
- 8:37Speaker 8: paying for things that you're not supposed to do. You
- 8:39Speaker 8: think your big bank's gonna do that? Probably not for
- 8:42Speaker 8: all of your mortgage needs. Call us at Baker Mortgage.

- 10:57Speaker 7: This is the Craig Collins Show on KSV seven h
- 11:00Speaker 7: under the Voice of Texas. I do have Jason in
- 11:02Speaker 7: studio that's hanging out with me. He is the guy
- 11:06Speaker 7: one of the two people behind Patriot Outdoor Initiative, which
- 11:10Speaker 7: is a nonprofit that gets veterans outside. Jason did Mike
- 11:14Speaker 7: saying that you got to hit that red button two
- 11:15Speaker 7: in front of you and then that microphone should work.
- 11:18Speaker 6: Yeah, it lifted up a little bit more, lift up
- 11:19Speaker 6: close to you. Is that good?
- 11:20Speaker 1: It's good?
- 11:21Speaker 6: Did I say everything?
- 11:22Speaker 1: Right? Well, there's five of us that actually started POI together.
- 11:25Speaker 7: All right, I'm gonna let you give credit to the
- 11:26Speaker 7: other four dudes. Who are the other four people?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Okay, So there's me, Shane Brandt, he's out of Corpus
- 11:31Speaker 1: Christie area. There's Chris Charles, he's also at a Corpus
- 11:34Speaker 1: Christie area. You have Patrick, I'm blanking on his last name.
- 11:38Speaker 1: He's from Katie, and then Eric and Conro. That's awesome myself.
- 11:42Speaker 6: So wait, how do you know all these guys.
- 11:44Speaker 1: We actually met serving in a different organization, okay, And
- 11:51Speaker 1: eventually we kind of all got together and we were like, hey,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I think we could do this better on our own. Wow,
- 11:55Speaker 1: And so we broke off and did it.
- 11:57Speaker 6: So, you guys are all veterans that didn't serve together.
- 12:00Speaker 7: They didn't know each other that way, but you met
- 12:01Speaker 7: in an organization similar to the one that you now run.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Well. Yeah, so none of us serve together except for
- 12:08Speaker 1: Eric and Patrick a National Guard. Oh wow, And so
- 12:11Speaker 1: they knew each other. But other than that, you're.
- 12:13Speaker 6: A marine, yes, sir. I love when people call me sir.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Who else? What are the other branches of the military
- 12:20Speaker 6: For those guys.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Patrick's and Marine? And then now he's in the National Guard,
- 12:24Speaker 1: ericson the National Guard, Shane's in the Army, and then
- 12:27Speaker 1: Chris is our onboard legal Christ.
- 12:29Speaker 6: So a Veteran Voices usually starts at six thirty.
- 12:32Speaker 7: At six thirty, we're going to start to talk about
- 12:33Speaker 7: the organization in a little bit more detail.
- 12:35Speaker 6: We're going to do a bunch of what I typically do.
- 12:37Speaker 7: But you're here now, so I figured i'd just have
- 12:39Speaker 7: you on and we'll chat about a little bit of
- 12:42Speaker 7: more general veteran stuff that I've learned. I've been doing
- 12:45Speaker 7: this segment for a while in a couple different places
- 12:48Speaker 7: in Texas now, for a few months. Before that, I
- 12:51Speaker 7: did it for a few years in Illinois, And so
- 12:54Speaker 7: I'm curious. Do you make fun of other branches of
- 12:56Speaker 7: the military.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Absolutely? Absolutely, the Marine? Yeah right, I mean I'm the best.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Okay, that's a figure.
- 13:03Speaker 7: And do you also get those similar like Theo's crayon
- 13:07Speaker 7: jokes and stuff.
- 13:07Speaker 1: All the time? Yeah, I mean that's like the most basic.
- 13:09Speaker 7: Why why why is that? Tell me that? Why is
- 13:12Speaker 7: that a marine joke that they eat crayons?
- 13:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it's because everybody thinks, like
- 13:16Speaker 1: the Marines are just like stupid.
- 13:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I get that.
- 13:18Speaker 7: I get that it's like an intelligence joke, but I
- 13:20Speaker 7: don't know why it's cran specifically, and they're like, yeah,
- 13:22Speaker 7: your favorite is like the orange cran.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I think it's because they have nothing else to say
- 13:25Speaker 1: about us. That's the only thing that sticks overused, So nice,
- 13:28Speaker 1: use that over and over. Gotcha.
- 13:30Speaker 6: There's a bunch of ones you probably can't say on
- 13:32Speaker 6: the radio. Okay, yeah, I've looked into those before.
- 13:35Speaker 7: Let me ask you this, and this is just a
- 13:37Speaker 7: general question about veterans. You have four other guys that
- 13:41Speaker 7: you run this nonprofit with. The way you guys communicate
- 13:45Speaker 7: is so refreshing compared to how the rest of society
- 13:48Speaker 7: talks to each other. Like a lot of society now
- 13:51Speaker 7: gets worried about all kinds of stuff. I think I've
- 13:54Speaker 7: heard comedians say that, like, I don't want to make
- 13:56Speaker 7: jokes that offend anybody. And yet the thing that's most
- 14:00Speaker 7: it's amazing to me about veterans is there's so many
- 14:03Speaker 7: things that are a fair game in your world that
- 14:06Speaker 7: aren't fair gamed anybody else. That seems to actually bring
- 14:09Speaker 7: people who are not the same closer together, you know
- 14:12Speaker 7: what I mean, Like, if you joke about anything with
- 14:14Speaker 7: someone else, it seems to somehow make you more friendly
- 14:19Speaker 7: than if you just try to be overly respectful.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, I totally agree. I think some
- 14:25Speaker 1: people will still get but hurt. But for the most part,
- 14:27Speaker 1: everybody's been you know, through the grind and through the
- 14:30Speaker 1: suck of the military and what it is that we
- 14:33Speaker 1: all kind of cope with humor. So it's funny we
- 14:35Speaker 1: all have yeah, dirty sense of humor.
- 14:37Speaker 6: Sure, yeah, I get that part.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Everything's kind of raw and unfiltered when you get a
- 14:41Speaker 1: bunch of them together, which is amazing.
- 14:43Speaker 7: Well, it's interesting you just said the suck of the military.
- 14:46Speaker 7: Everybody's been through the boot camp experience. Everybody's been through
- 14:49Speaker 7: some version of deployment somewhere. Even if it's not in
- 14:52Speaker 7: a conflict, you're sent somewhere. So those are the things
- 14:55Speaker 7: that you really think unite you with the other guys.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely, it's shared, you know, experiences together.
- 15:00Speaker 7: Does it just feel different when you're in a room
- 15:02Speaker 7: with a few veterans compared to when you're in a
- 15:04Speaker 7: room with guys that didn't serve that they just understand
- 15:06Speaker 7: even if like you don't talk about it, they just
- 15:08Speaker 7: understand you better as a person.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I totally agree. Yeah, it's a lot easier
- 15:13Speaker 1: to kind of communicate, and everybody kind of knows and
- 15:17Speaker 1: has the same I don't know, I guess mentality.
- 15:19Speaker 7: Well, And so I without getting too much into patriot
- 15:22Speaker 7: outdoors now, because we'll save that till after the break
- 15:25Speaker 7: and we'll come back and we'll do that in a
- 15:26Speaker 7: little bit better of a way.
- 15:28Speaker 6: But I think, and how do you mind if I
- 15:29Speaker 6: ask you how old you are?
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:30Speaker 6: I'm a twenty eight years old.
- 15:32Speaker 7: So this is one thing that I've heard because I've
- 15:34Speaker 7: talked to a lot of vfw's and I imagine you're
- 15:37Speaker 7: not a guy that goes to the VFW a lot.
- 15:39Speaker 6: Is that not your scene?
- 15:40Speaker 1: No, I've been before, but but it's not your scene.
- 15:42Speaker 6: No, you know, no offense.
- 15:44Speaker 7: And I know the vfws try really hard and I
- 15:46Speaker 7: think they're awesome, but a lot of younger guys they
- 15:48Speaker 7: don't see themselves hanging out at those places because from
- 15:50Speaker 7: what I've been told, it sounds like it's going to
- 15:52Speaker 7: be an older crowd.
- 15:53Speaker 6: It's just not the thing.
- 15:55Speaker 7: And so what I've found to be true, and you
- 15:56Speaker 7: can tell me about this about younger veterans, it's actually
- 15:59Speaker 7: hard to get them physically all in the same place together.
- 16:02Speaker 7: Like a lot of the initiatives that focus on twenty
- 16:05Speaker 7: somethings that just came out of the military.
- 16:07Speaker 6: It's like video game, this online community.
- 16:10Speaker 7: It's not necessarily a physical be out together sort of
- 16:14Speaker 7: thing your organization is. So I'm just wondering how much
- 16:17Speaker 7: better that seems to go when you actually get to
- 16:20Speaker 7: meet people face to face instead of all the ways
- 16:22Speaker 7: that it seems people are connecting, but they're doing it online.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's just a different generation thing. I think,
- 16:29Speaker 1: Like have you been to VFW? Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 16:31Speaker 1: it's kind of stale.
- 16:34Speaker 6: I don't want to say it like that because it
- 16:35Speaker 6: doesn't anyway you're going.
- 16:36Speaker 1: But I mean I enjoyed it the ones I went to,
- 16:38Speaker 1: but I just don't frequent those places. But being younger,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I mean everybody in my generation and a little bit older,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I mean they all played video games, grew up, played
- 16:45Speaker 1: video games with their buddies. So like I've got buddies
- 16:47Speaker 1: who still play video games. I don't, but they played
- 16:50Speaker 1: with guys that we were in with and they still
- 16:52Speaker 1: talk to each other. Yeah. But like Texas A and
- 16:55Speaker 1: M was a good spot for me because they have
- 16:58Speaker 1: a huge veteran resource thing. So I'm at a couple
- 17:00Speaker 1: of betteran I was there and hung out with those
- 17:01Speaker 1: guys over anybody else because it was twenty six you know,
- 17:05Speaker 1: in college put a hundred twenty two year olds.
- 17:07Speaker 7: So well, I what I mean to say is is
- 17:10Speaker 7: I've found that a lot of those organizations that reach
- 17:12Speaker 7: out to people online, it's limited.
- 17:15Speaker 6: It's a limited amount of benefit. Like sure, you're gonna
- 17:17Speaker 6: have fun.
- 17:17Speaker 7: Sure, you're gonna play those video games with the other guys,
- 17:20Speaker 7: But I think there is an importance to being physically
- 17:23Speaker 7: in the same place as other people, especially for people
- 17:26Speaker 7: like you, people who serve this country and kind of
- 17:29Speaker 7: need to look somebody else in the face who did
- 17:30Speaker 7: it too, to get that benefit. So part of what
- 17:33Speaker 7: I'm saying is it seems like to me, organizations like
- 17:36Speaker 7: yours have a deeper level of value to someone who
- 17:41Speaker 7: winds up being a part of them than those things
- 17:43Speaker 7: online because they don't really feel like they're really a
- 17:46Speaker 7: part of your life in the same way.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I mean I could. You're not physically tangibly there, right.
- 17:51Speaker 1: The only problem is you got to get the people
- 17:52Speaker 1: they want. Yeah, so it's hard. It's hard, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 1: it's true. So like for us, you know, not to
- 17:57Speaker 1: get into POI too much. But like people want to hunt,
- 18:00Speaker 1: but people have a hard time getting access to hunter
- 18:01Speaker 1: and never hunt before. Like, yeah, they can come, they
- 18:03Speaker 1: give you buy other veterans and it's free, you know.
- 18:06Speaker 6: So these are just like not veterans that can hang
- 18:09Speaker 6: hang out and.
- 18:09Speaker 1: No it's all that well veterans first responders, Yeah, stuff
- 18:13Speaker 1: like that.
- 18:13Speaker 6: Okay, cool.
- 18:14Speaker 7: Well, we're going to take a break now to try
- 18:16Speaker 7: to get all the breaks out of the way. We
- 18:17Speaker 7: do a half an hour of uninterrupted conversation with our
- 18:20Speaker 7: veteran voice. We can talk about anything you want, Jason.
- 18:23Speaker 7: It doesn't have to just be the Patriot Outdoor Initiative.
- 18:26Speaker 7: We can go any rabbit hole, any avenue you want.
- 18:28Speaker 7: We talk about sports for half an hour. It's up
- 18:31Speaker 7: to you whatever we do. But Dad is coming up
- 18:33Speaker 7: in just a bit. This is the Craig Collins Show KSV,
- 18:36Speaker 7: The Voice of Texas.

- 22:40Speaker 7: This is the Greig Collins Show KSV. The Voice Attacks
- 22:43Speaker 7: is thrilled to be with you, actually getting to know
- 22:45Speaker 7: Jason a little bit better off the air, and already
- 22:48Speaker 7: really impressed with the organization that you're a part of,
- 22:51Speaker 7: the Patriot Outdoor Initiative. A lot of stuff to talk
- 22:54Speaker 7: about in the next half an hour. The first thing
- 22:56Speaker 7: I want you to do, though, is tell me how
- 22:58Speaker 7: people can get involved. If anyone listening out there that
- 23:00Speaker 7: would like to be involved, how do they do it?
- 23:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so right now we're just on Facebook. Just search
- 23:05Speaker 1: up Patriot Outdoors Initiative. You go on there. I've got
- 23:08Speaker 1: instructions that if you're a veteran first responder, Act duty military,
- 23:11Speaker 1: you'll follow the Patriot Outdoors Initiative hyphen trips page. That's
- 23:15Speaker 1: how you enter into the trips, catch it that we provide.
- 23:18Speaker 1: But that's how that's how you get involved.
- 23:20Speaker 6: And what is it? So tell us what it is?
- 23:21Speaker 1: So Patriot out Doors Initiative is a five point c
- 23:24Speaker 1: three uh where we run hunts nationwide wherever we can,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and fishing trips. We take veterans active duty first responders
- 23:33Speaker 1: out in the outdoors just to get outside, have some
- 23:36Speaker 1: camaraderie with other veterans and have a good time.
- 23:39Speaker 6: That's awesome. And how many people are in this organization
- 23:41Speaker 6: right now?
- 23:41Speaker 1: So in staff numbers there's a total of seven, but
- 23:45Speaker 1: in member numbers at least the following on Facebook is
- 23:48Speaker 1: about one point four thousand.
- 23:49Speaker 6: That's crazy, dude. Is this blowing up very quickly?
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah? So, I mean every month, the more hunts we get,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you'll see numbers jump quick. And the cooler the hunt,
- 23:57Speaker 1: of course, more people are going to share it, more
- 23:59Speaker 1: people are going to to try to win it, and
- 24:01Speaker 1: then we'll jump even more.
- 24:02Speaker 7: So I'm already gonna lose your respect because you said
- 24:05Speaker 7: the cooler the hunt. I've never been hunting. I just
- 24:07Speaker 7: started to learn how to shoot a gun, like two
- 24:09Speaker 7: three years ago. Before I moved to Texas, I was
- 24:12Speaker 7: living in Illinois. It's much harder to get guns there.
- 24:14Speaker 7: But I eventually decided I had to do it. And
- 24:16Speaker 7: I think I'm an okay shot, but I'm not a
- 24:18Speaker 7: great shot. But I've never hunted anything other than like,
- 24:21Speaker 7: you know, a frisbee that somebody threw in the air.
- 24:24Speaker 6: Do I need to do a hunt? Is that something
- 24:25Speaker 6: you need to do?
- 24:26Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, I mean you're in Texas. Yeah I have Yeah, right,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I figured whether it's ducks or deer.
- 24:32Speaker 6: Well, you said cool, what's cool to hunt?
- 24:35Speaker 1: I like duck. I like duck hunting. That's kind of
- 24:37Speaker 1: my my bread and butter. Right, Why tell me why
- 24:40Speaker 1: they're birds flying everywhere? I can't call And I'll admit
- 24:44Speaker 1: that on the air. My buddies are going to roast me.
- 24:46Speaker 1: But I can't really call that. Well, but you're you know,
- 24:48Speaker 1: you're it's like a dance with these ducks as they're
- 24:50Speaker 1: flying around and you're just waiting and hoping that they'll
- 24:53Speaker 1: fall for it and come in and you can take
- 24:55Speaker 1: your shot.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Nice.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Hopefully you're good enough shots.
- 24:57Speaker 6: So are you a good enough shot?
- 24:58Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, because you're better better than the other foundersh cool.
- 25:03Speaker 7: So yeah, let's talk a little bit about your military experience.
- 25:06Speaker 6: You are a Marine. You said that your fourth generation military.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm a fourth generation military. My dad was
- 25:12Speaker 1: an Army, my grandfather was in the Air Force, and
- 25:15Speaker 1: then my great grandfather was in the Navy, and my
- 25:18Speaker 1: grandfather on the other side was a National Guard.
- 25:21Speaker 6: Okay, it's something funny that I've noticed.
- 25:23Speaker 7: I think it was my guest last week that had
- 25:25Speaker 7: the same story. You're, for some reason, the only marine
- 25:29Speaker 7: in your family. Why did you choose Marines? If it's
- 25:31Speaker 7: fourth generation, why did you go to a different branch?
- 25:34Speaker 1: I don't know. I just want to be different, I guess, yeah,
- 25:36Speaker 1: but no, I mean I interviewed with all of them, okay.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And my dad actually came with me and we were
- 25:42Speaker 1: looking at the Marines and the recruiters giving his spiel,
- 25:45Speaker 1: you know, And we walked out of there and he
- 25:48Speaker 1: looked at me and said, how do you feel? And
- 25:49Speaker 1: I was like, honestly, that was the coolest And he
- 25:52Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I think so too, And I was like, yeah,
- 25:55Speaker 1: I want to do that one.
- 25:56Speaker 6: Wow, your dad said that, Yeah, he was in the army, right, Yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 6: that's crazy. What did you do with the Marines?
- 26:01Speaker 9: So?
- 26:01Speaker 1: I was at sixty one seventy four. It was a
- 26:03Speaker 1: Hue crew chief, which basically means that I was a
- 26:05Speaker 1: door gunner. And then I also did mechanics on the helicopter,
- 26:09Speaker 1: on the engines and the blades.
- 26:10Speaker 7: Okay, so a door gunner means that you'd actually fire
- 26:13Speaker 7: the gun on the door.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that sounds great. I was appy sweet?
- 26:16Speaker 6: Was that pretty fun?
- 26:17Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, I mean it's probably the coolest job I've
- 26:19Speaker 1: ever had.
- 26:21Speaker 6: So where did you go? Where did they send you?
- 26:24Speaker 1: I mean I started out in I was a Hollywood
- 26:25Speaker 1: Marine's what everybody calls it, West Coast boot Camp, and
- 26:28Speaker 1: then you know, you go back there and do some
- 26:30Speaker 1: other training, and then you go to Florida and do
- 26:32Speaker 1: some training down there, water survival school, and then I
- 26:35Speaker 1: went back because I was on huge, So I went
- 26:37Speaker 1: back to California, did flight school, mechanics school, and then
- 26:40Speaker 1: ended up going to the fleet in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Wow at the mcas New River.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Wow.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Yeah. I spent the rest of my time there that's awesome.
- 26:49Speaker 7: I wonder if you would say one of the benefits
- 26:51Speaker 7: of being in the military is getting to see places.
- 26:54Speaker 7: I know that the Navy says that they get to
- 26:56Speaker 7: see a lot of places, especially if you get deployd
- 26:58Speaker 7: somewhere you're gonna go beyond the shores of the United States.
- 27:02Speaker 7: You and the Marines didn't really get to go anywhere
- 27:04Speaker 7: beyond our country. But do you still think there was
- 27:06Speaker 7: a benefit in getting to live in different places and travel?
- 27:09Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, I mean I didn't get to go overseas, right,
- 27:11Speaker 1: and I didn't get to see like the place like that.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I had buddies that did and they loved it and everything.
- 27:15Speaker 1: But I've I've phoned a helicopter from North Carolina to California.
- 27:18Speaker 1: You know, it's raid multiple times too, and like phone
- 27:21Speaker 1: over stadiums, like I still got to see a.
- 27:23Speaker 6: Bunch wow, you know. Yeah.
- 27:24Speaker 7: So when you talk to people, do people ask you,
- 27:27Speaker 7: like maybe even in your family or maybe friends, if
- 27:30Speaker 7: they think they want to go into the military for
- 27:33Speaker 7: your opinion?
- 27:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, all the time. What do you say, Oh,
- 27:36Speaker 1: greatest decision I've ever moved in my life. Yeah, I mean,
- 27:38Speaker 1: you should have met me before us in Rene Corps.
- 27:40Speaker 6: I really, yeah, straight up.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Quite a bit since then make a lot of better
- 27:45Speaker 1: decisions then.
- 27:46Speaker 6: Man, I hear that a lot from people too when
- 27:48Speaker 6: I talk about it.
- 27:48Speaker 7: So I'm intrigued by that. And you don't have to
- 27:50Speaker 7: tell me what things we were doing that were getting
- 27:52Speaker 7: in trouble. But why do you think the Marine Corps
- 27:54Speaker 7: was so good at straightening you up? Is it just
- 27:56Speaker 7: that there's no other option?
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean you don't have a choice, right, like
- 28:00Speaker 1: you're gonna get disciplined, but you know all the time.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Well yeah for me, you know so. But it's good. No,
- 28:07Speaker 1: it put some structure in your life that you know,
- 28:09Speaker 1: maybe you didn't have or you needed, or you really
- 28:12Speaker 1: disciplined me as a person to where like I can
- 28:15Speaker 1: go out and accomplish a mission. Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:17Speaker 6: Do you still see yourself as on mission whenever you're
- 28:19Speaker 6: doing anything?
- 28:21Speaker 1: Yeah? I note is sometimes actually have to remind myself like, hey,
- 28:25Speaker 1: you can slow it down a little bit. It don't
- 28:27Speaker 1: have to get done right now.
- 28:28Speaker 6: You know, you don't have to pins this right away?
- 28:30Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 28:30Speaker 6: Well cool?
- 28:31Speaker 7: What I find interesting about that too, And I'd like
- 28:33Speaker 7: to ask you this is the transition to regular civilian
- 28:37Speaker 7: life and how you actually still find an avenue to
- 28:41Speaker 7: do something connected to the military. So back to Patriot
- 28:44Speaker 7: Outdoor Initiative. Obviously, you seem to really want I'm guessing
- 28:49Speaker 7: an ability to hang out and be around other vets
- 28:52Speaker 7: doing something you like, which is on it.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so, I like I've always wanted to give back.
- 28:55Speaker 1: You know, getting out wasn't easy. I had good friends,
- 28:58Speaker 1: thank god. But I love the hunt and being able
- 29:03Speaker 1: to take veterans out hunting, which is something that I
- 29:06Speaker 1: know a lot about. They might not or they do. Sure,
- 29:08Speaker 1: you know, I get to go and give back a
- 29:10Speaker 1: little bit, which is cool to me because it's something
- 29:12Speaker 1: I enjoy doing. You know a lot of people going
- 29:13Speaker 1: volunteer and you know, good on them because something I
- 29:17Speaker 1: like to volunteer with fun things and that's my fun thing,
- 29:20Speaker 1: you know, like I can give back and share that
- 29:22Speaker 1: experience with these people.
- 29:23Speaker 6: How many hunts have you gone on so.
- 29:26Speaker 5: With?
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yeah? Sure, God, I can't count the hunting season if you.
- 29:33Speaker 6: Have no idea how many hunts. Now I met with
- 29:34Speaker 6: the Patriot Outdoor.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Now so I've done two since we started a Patriot
- 29:38Speaker 1: Outdoors initiative. But the other guys have done a few
- 29:41Speaker 1: of them.
- 29:41Speaker 7: So I was curious if any of you have had
- 29:43Speaker 7: like an experience or story with someone who was a
- 29:45Speaker 7: veteran that was deployed and a veteran that goes in
- 29:48Speaker 7: a hunt with you, because I've talked to some guys
- 29:51Speaker 7: who I think would really like this, but it might
- 29:54Speaker 7: be a struggle at the beginning if they're kind of,
- 29:57Speaker 7: you know, someone who's seen action in a way where
- 30:00Speaker 7: being involved in something like this might bring back some
- 30:02Speaker 7: negative memories too.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, we've got guys like that are that
- 30:06Speaker 1: are with us, all that have been deployed, and like
- 30:08Speaker 1: they share some experiences like Shane, he's a he's a
- 30:10Speaker 1: purple heart guy. Wow, and he's been in it, you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: and it's I think it's refreshing for those guys whenever
- 30:17Speaker 1: they get to come back and like to share war
- 30:19Speaker 1: stories and drink beer by the campfire or whatever. You know,
- 30:23Speaker 1: everybody's always accompanied by a staffer. We usually lead like
- 30:27Speaker 1: four people for one staffer, gotcha, So nobody's ever alone,
- 30:32Speaker 1: you know. Everybody's always with somebody and hanging.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Shane is one of your founders. Yes, and he's a
- 30:36Speaker 6: purple heart guy.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:38Speaker 6: Wow, How did you want to talk about that at all?
- 30:40Speaker 6: How did he? What happened there?
- 30:42Speaker 1: Yeah? Still he likes to joke about it. He he
- 30:46Speaker 1: likes to say that he, uh, what was it? He
- 30:49Speaker 1: zigged when he should have zagged? Yeah, yeah, I know. See.
- 30:53Speaker 6: This is what I really like about the idea of this.
- 30:56Speaker 7: And thank you for responding to a Facebook post that
- 30:58Speaker 7: I put up on social media and saying you wanted
- 31:00Speaker 7: to come out and chat about veterans, Because this is
- 31:02Speaker 7: what I really like about veteran conversations is how nonchalant
- 31:07Speaker 7: you can be about stuff that the rest of us
- 31:09Speaker 7: think is crazy, Like when a veteran says, I should
- 31:11Speaker 7: I zig when I should have zagged? And that's how
- 31:13Speaker 7: you get a purple heart. To you, there are things
- 31:16Speaker 7: that are just far more serious than some of the
- 31:19Speaker 7: stuff that people wind up caring about, right oh yeah, yeah.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I mean when I like tell some of these stories
- 31:24Speaker 1: or whatever. Like my fiance, for example, she'd be like, Jason,
- 31:27Speaker 1: I'm like, what, that's not that bad? Like, what do
- 31:30Speaker 1: you mean it could have been more? Yeah? What, He's
- 31:33Speaker 1: still alive. He's good, you know.
- 31:35Speaker 7: You know it's funny about that too. My wife, whenever
- 31:37Speaker 7: she hangs out with us with me and some veterans.
- 31:39Speaker 7: Whenever they're around, they'll make a lot of dirty jokes,
- 31:42Speaker 7: and she's from Mexico, so she doesn't get them all.
- 31:44Speaker 7: And it seems like veterans love that even more. Like
- 31:46Speaker 7: then they'll make even Yeah, they'll make even more jokes
- 31:49Speaker 7: and Betty'll be like, what did that one mean?
- 31:50Speaker 6: And I'm like, it doesn't matter. Just don't pay attention
- 31:52Speaker 6: to that at all. So you said that you're engaged.
- 31:55Speaker 7: You went to Texas A and m tell me a
- 31:58Speaker 7: little bit about how that life path kind of went
- 32:00Speaker 7: for you from military to school.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yeah, So, I mean I joined the Marine Corps because,
- 32:05Speaker 1: like I said, I didn't know what I was gonna do. Sure, well,
- 32:07Speaker 1: I also got out of the Marine Corps. I know
- 32:08Speaker 1: what I was gonna do too. So I came back home.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I lived with my mom for a little while, and
- 32:13Speaker 1: a buddy of mine, Colonney, he was like, dude, they'll
- 32:16Speaker 1: pay for you to go to school. Well I was
- 32:18Speaker 1: like yeah, and he was doing it and he's like, dude,
- 32:21Speaker 1: we'll sign you up. And I was like all right, man,
- 32:24Speaker 1: like you know what, why not? So I ended up
- 32:26Speaker 1: going to Houston community college for a little while with
- 32:28Speaker 1: the goal of transferring to A and M. They got
- 32:30Speaker 1: the best, one of the best construction I think it's
- 32:33Speaker 1: the best construction science programs in the United States. And
- 32:36Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, why not, Like it's free, should
- 32:39Speaker 1: I do it? Like? So that's I mean, that's what
- 32:41Speaker 1: took me there, and so you do construction now, yeah,
- 32:44Speaker 1: I do. I actually work for a developer. We developed
- 32:46Speaker 1: workforce housing for like megaprojects across the states.
- 32:49Speaker 7: Okay, and so have you ever connected with anybody in
- 32:53Speaker 7: your work life that winds up being somebody that's also
- 32:55Speaker 7: involved with Patriot Outdoors?
- 32:56Speaker 6: Like do you ever bump into vets and like, dude,
- 32:58Speaker 6: you gotta come hunt with us?
- 32:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I passed out to say all the time. Yeah.
- 33:01Speaker 1: I mean there's one one girl so that she told
- 33:04Speaker 1: me her husband was a firefighter and I was like, here,
- 33:05Speaker 1: give him this sticker and tell him to follow me
- 33:07Speaker 1: on Facebook because he can come on a hunt or something.
- 33:09Speaker 6: There you go.
- 33:09Speaker 7: So, yeah, we should say that it's not just for veterans,
- 33:12Speaker 7: it's for first responders, active duty military. A bunch of
- 33:16Speaker 7: different groups can come out and be a part of this.
- 33:18Speaker 7: When's your next hunt. You said it's not hunting season.
- 33:19Speaker 1: We actually have one this weekend. Well, so for hogs
- 33:23Speaker 1: in Texas, you don't have to have a there's no
- 33:25Speaker 1: hunting season. So we have a hog doog trip where
- 33:28Speaker 1: they they take hogs and they go round up or
- 33:31Speaker 1: they take dogs round up these hogs and then they
- 33:33Speaker 1: go and you know, dispatch them.
- 33:35Speaker 7: I got you, Yeah, because hogs are menaced and the problem.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Yea, absolutely, especially in Texas.
- 33:40Speaker 7: Okay, how many hogs do you think you guys will
- 33:42Speaker 7: wind up helping dispatch?
- 33:44Speaker 1: Oh? I hope they get like a hundred, but you know,
- 33:46Speaker 1: you never know. That'd be a great hunt. But you know,
- 33:48Speaker 1: I hope at least everybody gets at least one.
- 33:51Speaker 6: How many people do you think are going to want
- 33:52Speaker 6: to wind up going to this?
- 33:53Speaker 1: There's actually four guys. Then one staffer is going to
- 33:56Speaker 1: run it this weekend. Wow.
- 33:57Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's cool.
- 33:58Speaker 7: So is this the kind of thing that you're trying
- 34:01Speaker 7: to do like every weekend in some capacity with people?
- 34:03Speaker 1: Oh? If I could do it every weekend, that would do.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I mean you should see the calendar right now that
- 34:08Speaker 1: we stacked up for this season. I mean there's hunts
- 34:10Speaker 1: going almost every weekend, gotcha, and they're anywhere from here
- 34:13Speaker 1: to Massachusetts.
- 34:14Speaker 7: You said that it's not hunting season, So when is
- 34:16Speaker 7: hunting season? So I know that that's going to be
- 34:18Speaker 7: dombed to a lot of Texans out there, I apologize.
- 34:20Speaker 1: So dove season starts in like September, Okay, then teal
- 34:24Speaker 1: season's right after, and then duck and deer kind of
- 34:27Speaker 1: fall in and ends and like, gotcha, Well it depends
- 34:30Speaker 1: when it ends. But those end in like February, but
- 34:32Speaker 1: you can kind of extend till like March if you
- 34:34Speaker 1: go conservation goose hunt in Missouri and stuff.
- 34:37Speaker 7: So is that really your super Bowl time of the year.
- 34:39Speaker 7: Then once we get to the tail.
- 34:40Speaker 1: End of the year, I'm not home as much as
- 34:44Speaker 1: I as much as it can bey, I'm out hunting, gotcha.
- 34:46Speaker 7: Is it just hunting that you guys do or does
- 34:47Speaker 7: the Patriot Outdoor Initiative do other stuff?
- 34:49Speaker 5: No?
- 34:49Speaker 1: So we did a fishing trip actually as our first
- 34:51Speaker 1: trip that another founder and I had went on, and
- 34:55Speaker 1: we took a police officer from Kingsville, Pde with us.
- 34:57Speaker 6: Okay, how was that?
- 34:59Speaker 1: Oh? It was great monster trout down there in Corpus.
- 35:02Speaker 1: It was awesome.
- 35:03Speaker 6: How many states are you in right now?
- 35:05Speaker 1: So? How many hunts? I have states going on in
- 35:08Speaker 1: I've got I've got a hunt. I've got hunts all
- 35:10Speaker 1: over Texas. I've got a hunt in Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Massachusetts.
- 35:17Speaker 1: And then we've gotten reached out on a couple just
- 35:19Speaker 1: trying to bet him. Right now. We have one guy
- 35:21Speaker 1: trying to donate something from Africa right now too. Okay,
- 35:24Speaker 1: so we've got a lot going on, but confirmed, you know,
- 35:27Speaker 1: and we'll take anything. You know, anybody wants to give
- 35:29Speaker 1: us something with an outfitters.
- 35:31Speaker 7: I like that you said they want to donate something.
- 35:33Speaker 7: I don't know what something means. I don't know if
- 35:35Speaker 7: you want to tell me. Is it money or is
- 35:36Speaker 7: it something?
- 35:37Speaker 1: You know, we're working with him right now. He was
- 35:39Speaker 1: talking about a bear hunt not too long ago, and
- 35:42Speaker 1: so we were kind of working through deals as people
- 35:45Speaker 1: approach us. Yeah, GOTA makes sure it's feasible for the veterans.
- 35:48Speaker 6: So does every event have to have their own gun?
- 35:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll provide you. You know, I don't know certain states.
- 35:56Speaker 6: I imagine there's got to be some sort of like
- 35:58Speaker 6: thing you could sign.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know why you can't do in Texas.
- 36:00Speaker 1: At least I know, you can just shoot my gun. Yeah,
- 36:02Speaker 1: it's fine, you know, not a huge deal.
- 36:05Speaker 6: This is this the only place, the only state you've
- 36:06Speaker 6: lived in, like other.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Than from Louisiana, from Louiana. Catch it.
- 36:11Speaker 6: Yeah, it's amazing the Texas laws on guns.
- 36:15Speaker 7: Being somebody who came from Illinois, it's like, it's incredible.
- 36:18Speaker 7: I remember, I think when we first drove into the state,
- 36:20Speaker 7: when we were moving here, we stopped at like some
- 36:23Speaker 7: a store and I bought these giant things for my
- 36:26Speaker 7: rifle that I could not buy in Illinois. And they
- 36:28Speaker 7: were just sitting there and I was like, all right,
- 36:29Speaker 7: man like, and I can have that, and they're like, yeah,
- 36:31Speaker 7: you can just have it right now. I was like,
- 36:32Speaker 7: this state is so much better.
- 36:34Speaker 1: What was it? It was?
- 36:35Speaker 6: It's I got a ten twenty two.
- 36:36Speaker 7: It's just a tear down ruger and it's one of
- 36:39Speaker 7: those like fifty fifty.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Bullet oh yeah, yeah yeah, And so I was pretty
- 36:46Speaker 1: happy with that, and that was not allowed in Illinois
- 36:48Speaker 1: at Also, that was a nice first experience. I know.
- 36:51Speaker 6: It's crazy. So let me ask you this.
- 36:54Speaker 7: You said you've been on a tremendous amount of hunts
- 36:56Speaker 7: in your life in general before this initiative. Why is
- 37:00Speaker 7: this something that you wanted to do or like to
- 37:02Speaker 7: do or is this a family thing? Like when did
- 37:04Speaker 7: you first get into hunting?
- 37:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think my first hunting trip was
- 37:07Speaker 1: with my grandfather or my aunt. Not one hundred percent
- 37:10Speaker 1: sure on that they've both taken me when I was
- 37:11Speaker 1: really young.
- 37:12Speaker 6: That's incredible that it's one of the two.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and we were hunting in Louisiana for squirrels, okay,
- 37:18Speaker 1: you know, and I'll never forget my grandfather was kind
- 37:20Speaker 1: of deaf, but walking through the woods, he would tell
- 37:24Speaker 1: me to be quiet, you know, my steps were too
- 37:26Speaker 1: loud whatever, But he's the one stepping on all the twigs.
- 37:29Speaker 1: You know. I'm like, it's not even me. But yeah,
- 37:32Speaker 1: I mean I kind of grew up. They took me.
- 37:34Speaker 5: You know.
- 37:34Speaker 1: My grandfather would take me shooting all the time. And
- 37:36Speaker 1: then as I got older, i'd started hunting with my stepfather.
- 37:39Speaker 1: He'd started taking me a lot.
- 37:40Speaker 6: Gotcha. So, so you said your aunt also goes hunting
- 37:43Speaker 6: a lot.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, well not anymore. She did a little
- 37:46Speaker 1: bit back.
- 37:47Speaker 6: Then, gotcha?
- 37:48Speaker 7: Do you have any military family members who were female
- 37:51Speaker 7: or it's just guys, or she just like shooting.
- 37:53Speaker 1: No, no, yeah, no, no military members that are anything
- 37:57Speaker 1: other than guys. She just was. She was more of
- 37:59Speaker 1: the tomboy of the three sisters. She rode horses my mom.
- 38:02Speaker 7: And so it's funny that you said that your aunt
- 38:06Speaker 7: is one of the people taking you hunting, because I
- 38:07Speaker 7: was picturing my mother and she would never be anywhere
- 38:10Speaker 7: near a hunt, like it'd be terrifying to her. She's
- 38:13Speaker 7: actually mad sometimes that I own as many guns as
- 38:15Speaker 7: I do, but I live here in Texas now and
- 38:17Speaker 7: she lives.
- 38:18Speaker 1: You buy one, you don't get rid of it. Yeah,
- 38:20Speaker 1: and you.
- 38:20Speaker 6: Got to get more, is what I found out.
- 38:22Speaker 1: You never have enough.
- 38:24Speaker 7: So do you want to tell me any secrets to
- 38:26Speaker 7: what makes a hunt good?
- 38:29Speaker 1: Honestly, the best part of the hunt, in my opinion,
- 38:32Speaker 1: is really watching nature, hanging out with my buddies. Got
- 38:34Speaker 1: you know, like you got there with with your boys
- 38:37Speaker 1: and there's nothing going on. There's you know, there's animals, fine,
- 38:40Speaker 1: every fine everywhere, just walking out. You're just like swapping stories,
- 38:43Speaker 1: hanging out, just you know, shooting it.
- 38:46Speaker 7: That's crazy. Yeah, that's amazing. You know what I think
- 38:49Speaker 7: is kind of interesting about that too. So I'm going
- 38:50Speaker 7: to tell you a story a veteran, I know is
- 38:52Speaker 7: I'm allowed to tell. He had He had served, and
- 38:57Speaker 7: some stuff happened, as you know when people serve, some
- 39:00Speaker 7: difficult things went on, and he got back, he had
- 39:03Speaker 7: lost some friends, and he told me the story of
- 39:06Speaker 7: the first time he went out to hunt after all
- 39:09Speaker 7: of that, like, after the whole experience. And he was
- 39:10Speaker 7: a guy like you, like he loved hunting, and there
- 39:13Speaker 7: was some sort of mental block for him that you know,
- 39:15Speaker 7: when you first come back after dealing with something that's
- 39:18Speaker 7: much harder than any of us can fathom that, like,
- 39:21Speaker 7: you know. And so eventually he gets to the hunt
- 39:23Speaker 7: and I think he did it alone, and he's sitting
- 39:25Speaker 7: there and it's a deer, and he's looking the deer
- 39:27Speaker 7: down the gun and he just cried. He didn't shoot it,
- 39:31Speaker 7: he didn't do it. He just wept. And he told
- 39:33Speaker 7: me that like that was the most cathartic thing that
- 39:36Speaker 7: happened to him in the entire you know, transition from
- 39:40Speaker 7: serving to returning. And so it's so interesting to me
- 39:43Speaker 7: to think that you just said, just watching and enjoying nature,
- 39:45Speaker 7: because there's a lot of people that'll make a silly
- 39:48Speaker 7: assumption that going hunting you're like some jerk who just
- 39:51Speaker 7: wants to kill stuff, and that is not what it is.
- 39:54Speaker 7: So tell me a little bit about that.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Well, I mean, like there's this saying out there. I
- 39:58Speaker 1: forget exactly what it is. I'm probably gonna butcher. But like,
- 40:01Speaker 1: the best hunts aren't the ones where you come back
- 40:04Speaker 1: with a full limit, Like those are great, yeah, but
- 40:06Speaker 1: the best hunters are with your buddies, with the memories.
- 40:09Speaker 1: And I can't speak to the people who've gone over
- 40:11Speaker 1: there and done you know things that yeah, yeah I got,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and what their transitions like. But you know, as far
- 40:18Speaker 1: as a mission with POI try to, you know, help
- 40:20Speaker 1: people like that, you know, come out with us, Come
- 40:22Speaker 1: just hang out, have one outside with us.
- 40:24Speaker 7: Right, Yeah, And I think people don't understand the amount
- 40:27Speaker 7: of relaxation that can come from something like that.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah. You ever taken a deer blind nap? Yeah?
- 40:31Speaker 6: No, I've never taken a deer one of.
- 40:33Speaker 1: The best sleep ever. He's hanging out, it's quiet.
- 40:37Speaker 6: Do you do you drink when you hunter?
- 40:39Speaker 9: Know?
- 40:40Speaker 7: Is that not a thing? It's probably not a good thing.
- 40:43Speaker 7: Drink after the hunt, okay, not before a deer blind nap.
- 40:46Speaker 7: So how early are you waking up to go deer
- 40:49Speaker 7: blind hunting?
- 40:49Speaker 1: You typically want to you want to get in the
- 40:51Speaker 1: blind probably like an hour before like shooting light, well
- 40:55Speaker 1: maybe thirty minutes for shooting light, So shooting lights thirty
- 40:57Speaker 1: minutes before the sunrise, okay, And so you want to
- 41:00Speaker 1: in there at least thirty minutes before that so that
- 41:02Speaker 1: you can kind of.
- 41:03Speaker 6: Like see you an hour or so before the sun rise.
- 41:06Speaker 6: Oh yeah, you're falling asleep.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you taking that. And sometimes I've woken up
- 41:10Speaker 1: before and there's been deer out there and I'm like
- 41:12Speaker 1: sweet dared. But duck hunting, that's a different story. Duck hunting.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I mean, you could be out there two in the
- 41:18Speaker 1: morning trying to make it to your spot. Sure like
- 41:20Speaker 1: it gets wild. That's the duck hunting world.
- 41:21Speaker 6: Oh yeah, okay, Oh yeah, that's funny.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Dude.
- 41:24Speaker 7: So I've noticed something, and I wonder if your friends
- 41:27Speaker 7: tell you this about you. It seems like you're the
- 41:29Speaker 7: kind of guy that's just having a good time no
- 41:32Speaker 7: matter where you are.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, does that sound Yeah? I can not give
- 41:37Speaker 1: you a stress ball, don't worry, but I gotcha. I'm
- 41:40Speaker 1: I'm always down to have fun.
- 41:41Speaker 7: Yeah, wherever you are, you're kind of having fun, and
- 41:43Speaker 7: then you share that with other people. So I imagine
- 41:46Speaker 7: part of the benefit of going out and hanging out
- 41:48Speaker 7: in the world of the Patriot Outdoor Initiative if it's
- 41:51Speaker 7: guys like you who are also leading these other ons,
- 41:54Speaker 7: is just that that probably attitude is going to be
- 41:56Speaker 7: kind of contaged.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh, it absolutely is. Yeah. I mean we're
- 41:59Speaker 1: all just messing around, having fun, and by times in
- 42:02Speaker 1: you know, it might be a shy person there. Eventually,
- 42:04Speaker 1: like they'll crack a joke and you're like, oh my god,
- 42:07Speaker 1: what's up?
- 42:08Speaker 5: You know?
- 42:09Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 42:09Speaker 6: Is it Is it important that everybody's a veteran?
- 42:12Speaker 1: No, I mean veterans of first sponders share a lot
- 42:14Speaker 1: of the same mentalities from what I've noticed.
- 42:16Speaker 7: Sure, so now, but I guess what I meant to
- 42:19Speaker 7: say because I wanted to include a first responders in
- 42:21Speaker 7: the question that mentality is important part of the hunt,
- 42:24Speaker 7: having people that all kind of understand each other in
- 42:26Speaker 7: that way.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I've got some great guys that aren't
- 42:29Speaker 1: right that I love hunting with some of my best buddies.
- 42:32Speaker 1: But uh, that's what that's what we're there for. At
- 42:34Speaker 1: POI everybody with you know, same mentalities.
- 42:37Speaker 7: Yeah, so this is something I'm interested into a lot
- 42:40Speaker 7: when I talk to veterans, is people who have just
- 42:42Speaker 7: a really great experience serving in our military, because a
- 42:46Speaker 7: lot of times, if you push, you know, certain conversations
- 42:49Speaker 7: in certain directions, a lot of people have negatives that
- 42:52Speaker 7: they say, like there's this guy that treated me like crap,
- 42:55Speaker 7: or you know, I had an experience if I was deployed.
- 42:58Speaker 7: But it sounds like for you, and I've met some
- 43:00Speaker 7: veterans like this, everything about your time in the military
- 43:04Speaker 7: and even the benefits that you've gained after in getting
- 43:07Speaker 7: to go to school for free, like all of that,
- 43:09Speaker 7: there's not a single negative within that experience.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I mean no, yeah, I mean the RINCORPS was tough,
- 43:16Speaker 1: Like I definitely had.
- 43:16Speaker 6: Some bad I'm I'm sure it was challenging.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it definitely had some bad experiences. But at the
- 43:21Speaker 1: same time, I wouldn't trade those experiences for the world
- 43:23Speaker 1: because they made me who I am and I love
- 43:25Speaker 1: who I am now you know what I mean.
- 43:26Speaker 7: Like, so, no, I mean, okay, but by bad experiences,
- 43:30Speaker 7: what do you You don't have to tell me what
- 43:31Speaker 7: they are, but like, what do you mean by that?
- 43:32Speaker 7: Do you mean like there were days where you were
- 43:35Speaker 7: pushed to do things you never thought you could do.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, I mean I never thought I'd be working
- 43:39Speaker 1: seven twelves in the desert, you know what I mean?
- 43:41Speaker 1: Tendred and fifteen degree you know? Gotcha? Yeah?
- 43:44Speaker 6: Yeah, that was rough, ok gotcha.
- 43:46Speaker 7: Were there ever any like interactions with other members of
- 43:49Speaker 7: the military where you thought like something unfair was kind
- 43:51Speaker 7: of happening to you?
- 43:52Speaker 1: No, I never really had anything like that. Okay for me,
- 43:56Speaker 1: I'm sure there's people that thought that about me because
- 43:58Speaker 1: I progress quickly. But I think I showed up with
- 43:59Speaker 1: a good attitude every day. People knew that I would
- 44:01Speaker 1: stay late, you know, things like that, and they would
- 44:03Speaker 1: take me kind of under their wing. But I never had.
- 44:07Speaker 6: You said you progressed quickly, so you moved up the
- 44:09Speaker 6: ranks pretty quick.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Yeah, so I was a sergeant in four years. Wow.
- 44:13Speaker 6: How rare is that?
- 44:15Speaker 1: I'm not really sure. At the time it was it
- 44:17Speaker 1: was pretty uncommon, but not totally uncommon. I mean, but
- 44:23Speaker 1: like all the qualifications too, like when I got out,
- 44:25Speaker 1: I was a CDI. I was a triple door gunner,
- 44:28Speaker 1: which are all qualifications according to the aircraft. But I
- 44:31Speaker 1: had progressed faster than guys that were there a year
- 44:33Speaker 1: before me.
- 44:34Speaker 7: Wow, you just used an acronym. How many acronyms do
- 44:37Speaker 7: you know?
- 44:38Speaker 1: That are?
- 44:38Speaker 6: Like military is all about acronyms.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Right, Oh yeah, there's so many.
- 44:42Speaker 6: Okay, what is the CDI? What did you say?
- 44:44Speaker 1: It was a collateral duty inspector? I got you. Yeah,
- 44:46Speaker 1: I didn't realize I used that's okay.
- 44:48Speaker 6: Did you like that job? Was that a good job?
- 44:50Speaker 1: Oh? That was tough. Yeah, that was rough, but it
- 44:52Speaker 1: was fun. I mean I grew up working on cars
- 44:54Speaker 1: with my dad a little bit, you know, like basic
- 44:56Speaker 1: maintenance stuff. You teach me how to do stuff like that.
- 44:58Speaker 1: So when I got to the Marine Corps that part
- 45:00Speaker 1: of the job description, I wasn't totally like incapable, you know,
- 45:05Speaker 1: they didn't have to teach me as much. Sure, it
- 45:07Speaker 1: was more how to read, which is kind of funny,
- 45:09Speaker 1: you know, being read and you gotta learn how to read.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Ah No, that's right, that's me.
- 45:14Speaker 7: You know what's interesting about this too, As I'm I'm
- 45:16Speaker 7: talking to you and getting to know you a little bit.
- 45:18Speaker 7: I'm thinking about all the different skills that you acquire
- 45:20Speaker 7: in the military and then where they get used later
- 45:23Speaker 7: in your life, not just the training and maybe the
- 45:26Speaker 7: structure that you're talking about, but those other things that
- 45:28Speaker 7: you're taught to do. Can you think of a lot
- 45:30Speaker 7: of things that have benefited you that they come to
- 45:32Speaker 7: mind right away?
- 45:33Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean, and others too. I mean, not so
- 45:35Speaker 1: much me. I didn't. I didn't want to work on
- 45:36Speaker 1: aircraft when I got out anymore. But I've got buddies
- 45:39Speaker 1: who work at SpaceX. I've got buddies who work at
- 45:41Speaker 1: Southless Airlines.
- 45:41Speaker 6: You don't want to work at space.
- 45:43Speaker 1: X, No, I doubt Wow, I don't want to work
- 45:45Speaker 1: on aircraft.
- 45:46Speaker 6: That's money.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I enjoy my job now. But yeah, I mean, you know,
- 45:50Speaker 1: the mindset stuff is a huge booster, especially when you
- 45:52Speaker 1: get to college. Yeah, because you know, I remember when
- 45:54Speaker 1: I was eighteen, I an't doing do want to do
- 45:56Speaker 1: my homework?
- 45:57Speaker 5: You know?
- 45:57Speaker 1: I mean, but like in college, give you that you
- 45:59Speaker 1: give you I think it needs to be done, You
- 46:01Speaker 1: put on a checklist, you get it done. It's like
- 46:02Speaker 1: the mindset's way different.
- 46:04Speaker 7: Sure, let me ask you if you think that veterans
- 46:07Speaker 7: are appreciated enough in our society by people that do
- 46:10Speaker 7: not serve.
- 46:10Speaker 6: I know that's a tough question.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I think that's a geographical question, really taxes. It might
- 46:15Speaker 1: be true, yeah, I in Texas, it is true. I
- 46:16Speaker 1: mean I remember flying on the beaches of California and
- 46:19Speaker 1: nobody would wave at us, and I'd be hanging out
- 46:21Speaker 1: the side of the helicopter waving it wow, you know.
- 46:23Speaker 1: And then you go to North Carolina and the people
- 46:25Speaker 1: on the beach are running up and down and waving
- 46:26Speaker 1: at you.
- 46:27Speaker 6: Wow, dude.
- 46:28Speaker 1: So I think it's you know, stay dependent.
- 46:29Speaker 6: You know what's fascinating about that.
- 46:30Speaker 7: I don't have the type of experience you have because
- 46:33Speaker 7: I didn't serve in the military. But from all the
- 46:35Speaker 7: people I've talked to and all the places that I've
- 46:37Speaker 7: done segments like this, I think you're one thousand percent right,
- 46:40Speaker 7: and it's crazy. And I'd love to know your opinion
- 46:43Speaker 7: of why Texas is good at this, because it does
- 46:46Speaker 7: seem that for all the places you could possibly go,
- 46:48Speaker 7: maybe Florida is one of the only comparable ones. Texas
- 46:51Speaker 7: really seems to wrap its arm around, arms around veterans,
- 46:55Speaker 7: the community here, politicians here do the right thing. It
- 46:59Speaker 7: just seems like a much better place to be than
- 47:01Speaker 7: most of the country if you're a vet.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think it is. Texas and Florida
- 47:06Speaker 1: have some of the best veteran friendly laws. Why that is,
- 47:09Speaker 1: I'm not sure. I mean, I think it's just the
- 47:11Speaker 1: way people are raised, you know.
- 47:12Speaker 7: Sure, but you do think that people then get raised
- 47:15Speaker 7: here in Texas to care more about veterans.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, well, so you got to put it
- 47:20Speaker 1: this way too. Most of the military comes from like
- 47:23Speaker 1: Texas and Ohio. I think it probably, Yeah, Texas and Ohio,
- 47:26Speaker 1: so like, and a lot of veterans are here, a
- 47:28Speaker 1: lot of veterans in Florida for the benefits that they
- 47:32Speaker 1: that are there. So, I mean, I think it has
- 47:34Speaker 1: to do with like people from here are going so
- 47:36Speaker 1: when they come back. Yeah, that's funny.
- 47:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 47:39Speaker 7: I had a guest on that said that we have
- 47:42Speaker 7: the most veterans of any state in the country. Now
- 47:44Speaker 7: we just finally defeated I think it might have been California,
- 47:47Speaker 7: I don't remember what place was number two, but we
- 47:50Speaker 7: finally have the most you know, people that have served
- 47:53Speaker 7: in the country and now live here, and it's probably
- 47:56Speaker 7: again for a lot of the things you said. So
- 47:57Speaker 7: before we get out of here, we only have about
- 47:59Speaker 7: five or six minutes. I do want to refocus on
- 48:02Speaker 7: the Patriot Outdoors initiative. You guys are growing in a
- 48:05Speaker 7: lot of ways. Are you getting a lot of donations?
- 48:07Speaker 7: Are people donating funds? Are they sponsoring trips? How does
- 48:10Speaker 7: that work?
- 48:11Speaker 1: So, yeah, we get a lot of So all of
- 48:12Speaker 1: our trips come from donations from outfitters or ranch owners.
- 48:19Speaker 1: You know, for the most part, people were like, hey,
- 48:21Speaker 1: you can come home my property. You know. We've got
- 48:22Speaker 1: one guy who he's got his own boat and he's like, yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 1: I'll take guys with me, Like I'll donate my time
- 48:28Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Which that's where we get a
- 48:29Speaker 1: lot of our trips from. We are, you know, open
- 48:32Speaker 1: to donations. I think we have one coming in right now.
- 48:35Speaker 1: We've received one a couple before. We do merch sales too.
- 48:39Speaker 1: We try to do that, like hats and stuff like
- 48:41Speaker 1: the one I'm wearing now. I guess I can show
- 48:43Speaker 1: the camera nice, but we make you know, we we
- 48:47Speaker 1: poured money into this h from ourselves to get everything
- 48:51Speaker 1: kind of started and like get some hats and then
- 48:53Speaker 1: sell a hat and make a little bit of money
- 48:54Speaker 1: by two hats on the share so and keep it going.
- 48:58Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean we're all donations ran.
- 49:01Speaker 6: How would people donate?
- 49:03Speaker 1: That's a great question. No, I mean you can. You
- 49:06Speaker 1: can hit us up on Facebook.
- 49:08Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, there we go. If you go to Facebook
- 49:10Speaker 6: dot com and then you go to Patriot Outdoor. What
- 49:13Speaker 6: is the exact Facebook page.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Patriot Outdoors Initiative.
- 49:16Speaker 6: Patriot Outdoors, and you can send us a message.
- 49:18Speaker 1: We do have ways for you to donate money. We're
- 49:20Speaker 1: just working on our website right now, so it's not
- 49:22Speaker 1: set up.
- 49:23Speaker 7: That's okay, that's cool. I like that because actually, you know,
- 49:26Speaker 7: it's also funny. I've known a lot of veteran organizations
- 49:29Speaker 7: that don't want to ask for the donation.
- 49:30Speaker 1: But they need. We don't want to.
- 49:31Speaker 7: Yeah, so you don't want to do but you need it. Yeah,
- 49:34Speaker 7: you need that part. That part's important to keep doing
- 49:36Speaker 7: all the stuff that you're doing. Patriot Outdoors Initiative one
- 49:39Speaker 7: point five thousand followers, a bunch of people out there
- 49:42Speaker 7: doing this.
- 49:43Speaker 6: As you said, you have a hunt actually this weekend,
- 49:45Speaker 6: so tomorrow we do okay, and what is that again?
- 49:48Speaker 1: So it's a hog dog trip. Okay, yeah, so they
- 49:50Speaker 1: take hogs and they go or they take dogs sorry jeez,
- 49:53Speaker 1: they take dogs out and they go and you know,
- 49:56Speaker 1: run down these hogs and then dispatch them.
- 49:58Speaker 7: And I imagine that you guys will love it if
- 50:00Speaker 7: more people are like, hey, come get the hogs off
- 50:02Speaker 7: of my property.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Oh? Absolutely, yeah, I mean come on.
- 50:06Speaker 6: Well people whatever. People can even reach out to me.
- 50:09Speaker 7: If you're someone listening to the show and you think
- 50:10Speaker 7: that you'd love to get these guys to hunt something
- 50:13Speaker 7: and you have a property that you need that done
- 50:15Speaker 7: at Craig at KSV radio dot com to let me
- 50:18Speaker 7: know and I can pass that on to you guys.
- 50:20Speaker 7: What other things do you think you're in need of
- 50:22Speaker 7: right now as far as an organization goes, Is it
- 50:24Speaker 7: just funds or is there something else?
- 50:26Speaker 1: No? I mean we're kind of trying to work on
- 50:28Speaker 1: the website portion. That's kind of hard.
- 50:30Speaker 6: Social media stime.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Yeah, social media stuffs kind of rough for us right now.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Ye AIS made it a lot easier, it has, yeah,
- 50:38Speaker 1: but that and then you know, just I don't know,
- 50:41Speaker 1: I guess support from anybody who wants to be involved.
- 50:44Speaker 7: My wife has a question for you, okay, And my
- 50:46Speaker 7: mother just told me that she's never hunted anything, but
- 50:49Speaker 7: she thinks you might be a nice enough kid that
- 50:52Speaker 7: she would go with you, which would be very weird
- 50:54Speaker 7: if you took my mother hunting, and she doesn't live
- 50:56Speaker 7: in Texas. But my wife said, do you eat the
- 50:58Speaker 7: stuff that you guys hunt like?
- 50:59Speaker 6: So yeah, okay.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I was eating the access deer sausage the
- 51:05Speaker 1: other or yesterday.
- 51:06Speaker 6: So how do you do that?
- 51:06Speaker 1: Do you do?
- 51:07Speaker 6: You make it yourself? Is there somewhere you.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Bring processing place and you clean the animal and you
- 51:11Speaker 1: you bring it in with just the meat, no skin
- 51:14Speaker 1: and other stuff, and then they processed the meat.
- 51:16Speaker 6: Do you want to shout out a processing place that
- 51:18Speaker 6: you like or no?
- 51:19Speaker 1: Oh no, it's been years since I've gone to a processor.
- 51:22Speaker 1: I haven't killed the other people going. Yeah. I mean
- 51:24Speaker 1: for certain animals like you know, fished, easy ducks, brush
- 51:27Speaker 1: them out and then cook them that way, But big
- 51:30Speaker 1: bigger items like deer, I haven't hadn't killed it here in.
- 51:32Speaker 6: A couple of hours.
- 51:33Speaker 7: My last question to you is how many people do
- 51:35Speaker 7: you have go out with you that like don't hunt it?
- 51:37Speaker 7: All like you're just treaching them how to do it,
- 51:39Speaker 7: or is anybody.
- 51:40Speaker 1: I think this weekend we've got two guys that are
- 51:42Speaker 1: pretty new to hunting and they don't really know too much,
- 51:45Speaker 1: and we're like, hey, it doesn't matter, you don't have
- 51:46Speaker 1: to know anything. I'll teach you. It's not that hard.
- 51:49Speaker 1: And then if you if you hadn't shot a gun
- 51:50Speaker 1: too many times, I'll take you to the range before
- 51:52Speaker 1: we go and line you up with the crosshairs and
- 51:54Speaker 1: we'll make sure you're going to go before we get
- 51:55Speaker 1: out there.
- 51:56Speaker 6: What's the trick to shooting a gun? Well, do you
- 51:58Speaker 6: have a trick?
- 51:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean there's all kinds of tricks online, but
- 52:01Speaker 1: I'll just be good at it. Slow breathing mess that
- 52:03Speaker 1: mess and then pulling the trigger on the exl not
- 52:07Speaker 1: jerking it, but just pull it until it goes off.
- 52:10Speaker 1: And sure, that's good.
- 52:11Speaker 6: Nice. I love that. Well, thank you again, man.
- 52:14Speaker 7: You are a really fun guy to get to know,
- 52:16Speaker 7: and your organization is pretty cool. Patriot Outdoor Initiative, Facebook
- 52:20Speaker 7: dot com slash Patriot Outdoor Initiative to connect with them,
- 52:23Speaker 7: A five o' one three sea charity donations.
- 52:26Speaker 6: Everything is available. Jason Schaefer. Is your name, yes, sir?
- 52:30Speaker 7: And is there anything else you want to give as
- 52:32Speaker 7: far as ways that people can connect with you or
- 52:34Speaker 7: is it just through that Facebook page?
- 52:36Speaker 9: Now?
- 52:36Speaker 1: So we have an Instagram too, they're working on but
- 52:38Speaker 1: I mean follow us on Facebook and Instagram?
- 52:40Speaker 6: Cool? And then when's your next plan? Hunt for you?
- 52:43Speaker 6: When are you going?
- 52:43Speaker 1: Oh? Man, I don't know. It works kind of crazy
- 52:45Speaker 1: right now, but I'm hoping I'm going to get one soon.
- 52:47Speaker 6: All right, Well, fair enough? Well that's cool.
- 52:49Speaker 7: And the hunting season starts in a few months, and
- 52:51Speaker 7: apparently you'll be out every single weekend by then, and
- 52:54Speaker 7: there's a whole lot of other states doing this. Are
- 52:56Speaker 7: there other people that can reach out to you from
- 52:58Speaker 7: other places that could like launch chapter of it somewhere else?
- 53:01Speaker 6: Is that something that you kind of do? Where does
- 53:03Speaker 6: that work?
- 53:03Speaker 1: Yeah? I don't know about right now. We're kind of
- 53:06Speaker 1: you just we just opened up the New England area
- 53:09Speaker 1: from a guy that we know personally up there.
- 53:11Speaker 6: Gotcha? So okay, so it's hit or mess right now.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I mean, I got no problem neither to a couple
- 53:17Speaker 1: of other guys driving to Tennessee to go do a hunt,
- 53:19Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, one of the other founders is going
- 53:23Speaker 1: to Florida like next month.
- 53:24Speaker 7: That's what's so funny about you do is I'm like,
- 53:26Speaker 7: I feel like you just go anywhere. If somebody was like, yeah,
- 53:28Speaker 7: free hunt here, You're like, yeah, let's do that.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Last year I was in North Carolina.
- 53:32Speaker 6: That's amazing.
- 53:32Speaker 7: All right, Well we were at a time he's saying,
- 53:34Speaker 7: ten seconds left. Thank you one more time to Jason
- 53:36Speaker 7: Schaeffer for being a part of this and chatting all
- 53:38Speaker 7: about the Patriot Outdoor Initiative.
- 53:40Speaker 6: It is the Craig Collin Show KSV, The Voice Detect
