- 0:43feet. Help us to know what to do.
- 0:46Lord, help us to know that you are near.
- 0:49Help us, God, to walk in the light as you are in the light.
- 0:53Father, we thank you so much for eternity.
- 0:57We thank you for the abundant life in Jesus Christ.
- 1:01Holy and precious name I pray, Amen.
- 1:05Let's start in verse one. When therefore the Lord knew how
- 1:11the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more
- 1:14disciples than John? Well, you're going to have to
- 1:18know here. This was started back in the
- 1:21last chapter where John's disciples were trying to figure
- 1:25out what John thought about his cousin who was baptizing more
- 1:32than him. Verse 2 though Jesus himself
- 1:36baptized not but his disciples, so we see here that it they
- 1:41could not just go and say, well, I was baptized by Jesus.
- 1:44Jesus was wise enough to allow the disciples to take part in
- 1:50that facet of his ministry. 3 And he left Judea and departed
- 1:55again into Galilee. Four and he needs must go
- 1:58through Samaria. So we know that there was a
- 2:02quicker route and it was through Samaria, but the Jews would have
- 2:09been accustomed to actually going around the longer way.
- 2:14And so Jesus here just hits the nail on the head.
- 2:17He knows that he has business to do, and he's about to reveal his
- 2:22earthly ministry to a Samaritan who was 1/2 breed, who was half
- 2:30Jewish, and they were hated by the pure Jews from the Abrahamic
- 2:37lineage. And you can see here that
- 2:39Jesus's ministry is for the whole world, not just for the
- 2:43Jews. Let's keep going. 5 Then comes
- 2:47he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sicar, near the parcel
- 2:51of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
- 2:55So here there's so much tapestry, Old Testament
- 2:58tapestry. Here we can see that Jesus knew
- 3:03that this was all God's land. It was not just borders.
- 3:08There was no borders with Jesus Christ.
- 3:11He remembered the time whenever the Israelites and the 12
- 3:14tribes, whenever they were there in that land, he remembered it.
- 3:18He sees it, He can recall it. And friends, he knows our
- 3:22beginning from the end. He knows everything about us.
- 3:26And so Jesus here is going into Samaria and he's going to love
- 3:31on that nation. He's going to show them that
- 3:34they must worship God in spirit and truth.
- 3:36And it has nothing to do with the borders there, and it has
- 3:39nothing to do with the temple there, and it has nothing to do
- 3:43with the lineage of Abraham, that those people are his chosen
- 3:48people. Praise God, but he does have his
- 3:51heart for the entire world. And we can see that the Jews
- 3:55squandered their inheritance much like Adam and Eve
- 3:59squandered theirs. The Jews were supposed to be the
- 4:03royal priesthood for the whole world, to point the whole world
- 4:08towards God Almighty. And they made it all about the
- 4:13temple, they made it all about heritage, they made it all about
- 4:17the traditions. And here Jesus is coming to
- 4:20correct that thought process, and he did it last chapter with
- 4:25Nicodemus whenever it was believed that no Jew could enter
- 4:29into hell. He's showing them that without
- 4:31receiving the Holy Spirit, without receiving the new birth,
- 4:36that they were not going to make it into heaven and they would be
- 4:40cast into the realm where it was created for the fallen angels.
- 4:46And we send ourselves there, friends.
- 4:49So here we can see verse 6. Now Jacob's well was there,
- 4:53Jesus, therefore being wearied with his journey, he sat thus on
- 4:57the well. And it was about the 6th hour.
- 5:00So here we can see that Jesus is all man.
- 5:04He's all God and He's all man. And he's tired and he goes to
- 5:07the well. And this has a lot of
- 5:09significance. If you go back and read the Old
- 5:11Testament, you can see here that this is a very special place.
- 5:17And seven there comes a woman of Samaria to draw water.
- 5:21Jesus said unto her, Give me to drink.
- 5:25So here the living water is asking this woman for a drink.
- 5:30And what he's doing here is he's probing her.
- 5:33He is actually wanting to know where her heart is, but He knows
- 5:38all people. He knew that this was all coming
- 5:41about, but he needed to draw out of her the deep things that she
- 5:47was trying to hide, the deep things that she walked around
- 5:51with and shame. And let's see what she has to
- 5:53say. Eight For his disciples were
- 5:56gone away into the city to buy meat.
- 6:00So here you can see as the story unfolds that the disciples were
- 6:05going into town to buy something to eat.
- 6:07And Jesus, weary from the journey, knew that he had a
- 6:10divine appointment with this woman. 9 Then said the woman of
- 6:14Samaria unto him, How is it that you, being a Jew, asked a drink
- 6:19of me, which I am a woman of Samaria?
- 6:22For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
- 6:25So you can see here Jesus, if you've been following along for
- 6:29any amount of you know that Jesus has already given the
- 6:32discourse on the Good Samaritan. He shows where God's heart is,
- 6:38friends, and God is not like us. His ways are much higher than
- 6:44our ways and his thoughts much higher than our thoughts,
- 6:47friends. And we would do well to make
- 6:49sure that we have the heart of God, the heart of Christ, the
- 6:54mind of Christ, Make sure that our lives add up to this good
- 6:58book, that we're not steeped so much in tradition, friends.
- 7:02And she's asking you, Jews don't even like us.
- 7:05How is it that you're talking to me?
- 7:07And not only that, but she was a woman, and women were looked
- 7:11down upon at this time. It is no different in our day
- 7:14and our our friends. We need to honor our wives,
- 7:18honor them friends, and love them. 10 Jesus answered and said
- 7:23unto her, If you knew the gift of God and who it is that says
- 7:27to you, give me to drink, then you would have asked of him, and
- 7:32he would have given you living water.
- 7:35So you can see here that Jesus's whole motive is he's trying to
- 7:39get her to take a drink and to drink from the endless
- 7:44bottomless well where she will never be thirsty again.
- 7:48The well of living water, which is Jesus Christ, friends, He is
- 7:53our eternal spring that never dries up.
- 7:55He is our all sufficient sacrifice.
- 7:58He is our eternity, He is the reward, He is our everything.
- 8:03And He saying, listen, drink in deeply of me and you will be
- 8:08satisfied. I hope that you can say that
- 8:10today, friends. I hope that you have found that
- 8:13Jesus is enough. I hope that you're not chasing
- 8:15after vanity and chasing after money.
- 8:18I hope you're not chasing after pride.
- 8:20I hope you're not chasing after reputation.
- 8:23I pray that you have found that Jesus is enough.
- 8:26He is way more than the position that you carry.
- 8:29He's way more than any relationship that you have on
- 8:33this earth. He is our everything.
- 8:36And I pray that you have drink and you have drunk deeply from
- 8:40this living water, Friends. 11 The woman said unto him, Sir,
- 8:46you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep.
- 8:51From where then have you that living water?
- 8:55So there's so much here. There's allegory and symbolism,
- 9:00but the basic understanding of this, friends, is she is saying
- 9:06you do not even have anything to draw with.
- 9:10And friends, I want you to know that when we come to the Lord
- 9:14Jesus Christ, it doesn't always look like how we thought it was
- 9:19going to. And this is her saying to him,
- 9:23listen, I am a deep, deep well. I have so many hidden,
- 9:28unsearchable things, and you think that you could just draw
- 9:33them up and out of me. And plus, look, you are a man of
- 9:38poverty, and I desire more. I desire more than what you can
- 9:43offer me. And here we're going to get back
- 9:46into the practical. What is actually happening here?
- 9:50So she's saying, You have nothing to draw with. 12 Are you
- 9:53greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well and drank
- 9:58thereof himself and his children and his cattle?
- 10:01And of course Jesus was before Abraham.
- 10:04Jesus is greater than Abraham. And this was something that she
- 10:08needed to understand. 13 Jesus answered and said unto her,
- 10:12Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again. 14 But
- 10:17whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall
- 10:21never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him
- 10:25a well of water springing up to everlasting life.
- 10:29It never ends. It is the deep end, friends.
- 10:33It's unsearchable riches. It is so incredibly beautiful
- 10:39when you come to the Lord and you surrender all, not just
- 10:42surrender some. When you are fully sold out to
- 10:45the King of Kings, when you are holding nothing back, when you
- 10:49are not compartmentalizing your life, when you are truly sold
- 10:53out to Him. You're going to find this living
- 10:55water where you never will be thirsty again.
- 10:58And you keep going back to it and you find that it's full and
- 11:02it's overflowing. Friends 15 The woman said unto
- 11:08him, Sir, give me this water that I thirst not neither come
- 11:13here to draw. So here she's still thinking in
- 11:16the practical. She's saying that she wants to
- 11:19have whatever this miracle cure that he has because she doesn't
- 11:25want to have to keep coming back.
- 11:28And this would have been a sign that she carried a lot of shame
- 11:33because she was not out with the community.
- 11:36She had not come in the cool of the morning.
- 11:40She was out in the middle of the day where it would have been hot
- 11:44friends. And you can see here that Jesus
- 11:47knows her story from beginning to end. 16 Jesus said unto her,
- 11:57unto her, Go call your husband, and come here. 17 The woman
- 12:01answered, and said, I have no husband.
- 12:03Jesus under Jesus said unto her, You have said, Well, I have no
- 12:10husband. 18 For you have had five husbands, and he whom now
- 12:16that you have is not your husband, in that you have said
- 12:20truly. 19 The woman said unto him, Sir, I perceive that you
- 12:25are a prophet, but much greater than a prophet.
- 12:28Jesus is Yahweh, Jesus is our everything, and Jesus knows
- 12:35everything. He is preeminent, he is
- 12:39omniscient, and he knows that this woman has had so many
- 12:43husbands and now the one that she is living with is not her
- 12:47husband. And she just thinks of him now
- 12:52not only as a miracle cure provider, but now she sees him
- 12:56as a prophet. And this is unfolding.
- 12:59And make sure we lock in. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this
- 13:03mountain, and you say that in Jerusalem is the place where men
- 13:08ought to worship. So there was so much back story
- 13:11here where the Jews basically ousted out the Samaritans
- 13:15because they were not fully of Abraham's seed and they tried to
- 13:20Lord it over them that they had the temple.
- 13:22And it was no different back in Jeremiah's time when the false
- 13:27prophets were in the land telling them that they had the
- 13:29temple of the Lord and that they were secure.
- 13:32They had started it all over again.
- 13:34And they thought because they had the temple of the Lord in
- 13:37Jerusalem that that was where everyone was supposed to
- 13:40worship. And what is Jesus going to tell
- 13:43her, And what is Jesus going to tell us?
- 13:4621 Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour comes when
- 13:50you shall neither in this mountain nor at Jerusalem
- 13:53worship the Father. 22 You worship, you know, not what we
- 14:00know, what we worship. For salvation is of the Jews.
- 14:03He makes it clear, He makes it plain.
- 14:06Salvation comes from the Jews. It's from Jesus Christ, the lion
- 14:11of Judah, friends. And we would do well to bless
- 14:14that nation so that we can be blessed.
- 14:16Do not curse them, or you will be cursed. 23 But the hour
- 14:20comes, and now is when the true worshipper shall worship the
- 14:24Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeks such to
- 14:28worship him. That is our call, that is our
- 14:30mandate, that is our marching orders.
- 14:32That is where we need to be found, friends, worshipping God
- 14:36Almighty in spirit and truth. Friends, be filled with the
- 14:39Spirit today. Tell the truth, stand on the
- 14:42truth. Jesus Christ is the truth, and
- 14:45we must worship Him in that. What's he going to tell her?
- 14:4824 God is a spirit, and they their worship Him must worship
- 14:53him in spirit and in truth. So you cannot even come unto the
- 14:58Father unless the Spirit draws you unto himself, friends.
- 15:02And you're going to see here that in order to authentically
- 15:06worship God, you must, you must give in to that calling of the
- 15:11Spirit into God's presence, friends.
- 15:14And when you're indwelled with the Spirit, worshipping God is
- 15:17easy because you can go to Him anywhere at any time, 24/7.
- 15:23Pray without ceasing. 25 The woman said unto him, I know that
- 15:27the Messiah comes, which is called Christ.
- 15:30When he has come, He would tell us all things.
- 15:32So you can see that they were waiting for the Messiah, and she
- 15:36had not realized that the Messiah was standing right in
- 15:39front of her. She didn't realize.
- 15:41She thought of Him just as a prophet at this moment, even
- 15:44though he's telling her that he knows so much about her and
- 15:50about God, and she still is seeing him as a prophet. 26
- 15:57Jesus said unto her, I that speak unto you am He.
- 16:01He revealed to this Samaritan woman that He is the Messiah.
- 16:10What a privilege to her, friends, and what an
- 16:12encouragement to you and to me. We're all jacked up and we're in
- 16:16desperate need of Jesus Christ, and He comes to us, the lowly.
- 16:22He comes to us, the broken. Friends, that is the way, and
- 16:25that is the heart of God. Friends, we cannot be so pious
- 16:30that we miss it. 27 And upon this came his disciples, and
- 16:39marvel that he talked with the woman, yet no man said, what do
- 16:43you seek or why do you talk with her?
- 16:45They were smart enough and wise enough at this moment to keep
- 16:48their mouths shut and to just allow the Messiah to deal with
- 16:53this woman's heart. And that's what he does for you,
- 16:56and that's what he does for me. He hits the nail on the head.
- 16:59He's good at what He does. Friends, He gets us to the place
- 17:02of surrender. But we must choose that
- 17:05surrender, or we allow the bird to come in, Satan to come in and
- 17:09snatch the words. We allow the cares of this world
- 17:13to come in and choke out the fruitfulness.
- 17:17We allow the shallowness because we didn't go deep with God.
- 17:20And whenever persecution and hard times arise, we fall away.
- 17:24We must let the word that He is the Messiah fall on fertile
- 17:29ground and produce fruit. And if you truly believe that
- 17:32Jesus Christ is the Son of God, then this whole world would look
- 17:36different than it does right now.
- 17:38Friends. 28 The woman then left her water pot and went her way
- 17:50into the city, and said to the men, Come and see the man which
- 17:56told me all things that I've ever done.
- 18:01Is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city,
- 18:10and came unto him. 31 In the mean while his disciples prayed,
- 18:16him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat
- 18:23to eat that you know not of. So we can see here that Jesus
- 18:27Christ is feasting on the word of God.
- 18:32We can see here that Jesus Christ is not worried about what
- 18:37his disciples think. He is feasting on the Word of
- 18:42God, and that is our call, and that is our mandate, that we
- 18:45must feast on the word of God. 33 Therefore the disciples, one
- 18:59to another, said, Has any man brought him something to eat?
- 19:0434 Then Jesus said unto him, My meat is to do the will of him
- 19:08that sent me, and to finish his work.
- 19:12He makes it plain here to the disciples.
- 19:14Friends, He lets his disciples know that man shall not live by
- 19:18bread alone, but by every word of God that proceeds out of his
- 19:22mouth. 35 Say not ye, there are yet four months, and then the
- 19:27harvest comes. Behold, I say unto you, lift up
- 19:32your eyes and look on the fields, for they are already
- 19:36white with the harvest. So we can see here that God is
- 19:40going out, and God is preparing the harvest, and we must get in
- 19:44line. Friends, we do not control the
- 19:47growth. All we do is scatter the seed.
- 19:50We need to be obedient to God to scatter the seed, no matter what
- 19:54kind of soil it falls on. Friends, do not be found hiding
- 19:59your. Lamp under the bushel friends,
- 20:02do not be found letting your lamp go out and let it be found
- 20:08without the oil. Make sure you fill it up.
- 20:10Let your light shine today and go out into the harvest friends,
- 20:15and call many men to repentance and remission for their sins by
- 20:18the blood of Jesus Christ. We have a great commandment.
- 20:22We need to go out into the highways and the hedges and the
- 20:25byways, and we need to make sure that we are found putting our
- 20:29hand to the while locking eyes with Jesus, not living
- 20:33distracted friends, and let this world fade away as you lock eyes
- 20:40with him. And he will give you all the
- 20:42fuel that you need to finish the journey. 36 And he that reaps
- 20:49receives wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal, that both he
- 20:54that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together, praise God.
- 20:59So you can see that God's plan for the ages is for us to be
- 21:04partakers of what he's already doing behind the scenes.
- 21:08And so many of us, we fall away because of the pressures of the
- 21:12world, so many of us because of the pride of life.
- 21:16We do not want what God has for us because it looks different
- 21:19than the life that we thought we were going to have and get. 37
- 21:24And herein is that saying true. 1 sows and another reaps. 38 I
- 21:29sent you to reap that. Where you bestowed no labor,
- 21:33other men labored, and you entered into their laborers.
- 21:38So you can see here that God's preparing the ground.
- 21:40We need to know that God is the one that's calling out, but we
- 21:45have to go and be his hands and feet.
- 21:48We have to be the ones to be obedient.
- 21:50God is calling many men unto salvation, and we need to break
- 21:55up the fallow ground and make sure that all the seed is
- 21:58falling on fertile soil. We need to know that God gives
- 22:02the increase. All that we're doing is going
- 22:05out and scattering that seed, friends.
- 22:09And whenever you're yoked with him, it's easy, Friends.
- 22:12It's not labor. Some friends.
- 22:14His yoke is easy and his burden is light. 39 And many of the
- 22:19Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the
- 22:23woman which testified that he told me all that I ever did.
- 22:28Because she could go back into that town, and because they knew
- 22:31the disgrace that she carried, and because she left the water
- 22:35pot, they believed on him. They saw him not just as a
- 22:40miracle cure provider, not just as a prophet, but they saw him
- 22:44as the long-awaited Messiah. 40 So when the Samaritans were
- 22:49coming to him, they begged him that he would tarry with them,
- 22:53and he abode there two days. So you can see here that
- 22:57whenever Jesus cast out the legion from the demoniac, they
- 23:02asked him to leave. But here Jesus is talking to
- 23:06this woman and they ask him to stay.
- 23:10How amazing is it? We should be the ones that are
- 23:12asking Jesus to abode, to abide with us and we in him we do not
- 23:18need. Whenever we rub up against the
- 23:20righteousness of God and the goodness of God and the mercy of
- 23:24God, we should not ask him to leave because he makes things
- 23:28uncomfortable. We need to ask him to continue
- 23:31to pull out the things that don't belong. 41 And many more
- 23:39believed because of his own words.
- 23:41So not only the words of the Samaritan woman going in there
- 23:45and telling them all that he had told her, but also because of
- 23:49the things Jesus was teaching. Many more believed on him, 42
- 23:53and said unto the woman. Now we believe not because of
- 23:56your saying, for we have heard him ourselves and know that he
- 24:01is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world. 43 Now after two
- 24:07days he departed from there and went into Galilee. 44 For Jesus
- 24:11himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
- 24:1645 Then when he was coming to Galilee, the Galileans received
- 24:21him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the
- 24:25feast, for they also went unto the feast.
- 24:28So John here, he had mentioned a few chapters back that they
- 24:32believed on him because of all the miracles he did at
- 24:35Jerusalem. And he mentions it here again.
- 24:38And there's a little reference here that a prophet is without
- 24:40honor in his hometown. And I want you to know, friends,
- 24:44whenever you start following hard after God, when you start
- 24:47getting serious about your faith, do not be surprised if
- 24:51you get ridiculed and misunderstood by your own
- 24:54family, by those that know your past.
- 24:57Do not be dismayed and discouraged when people say all
- 25:02kinds of things about your past and when they try to get you to
- 25:07quit following after God so hard because you're making it
- 25:11uncomfortable. Friends, you are convicting when
- 25:15you are following hard after Jesus Christ.
- 25:17It makes people uncomfortable and it makes them have to make
- 25:22hard decisions that they do not like.
- 25:24And do not be surprised whenever you come around, if you see them
- 25:28go the other way. Do not be surprised if they say
- 25:31all kinds of negative things towards you, friends. 46 So
- 25:41Jesus came again into Cana Galilee, where he made the water
- 25:45wine. And there was a certain nobleman
- 25:47whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus was
- 25:51come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto him and begged him
- 25:56that he would come down heal his Son, for he was at the point of
- 26:00death. So we can see here this
- 26:02nobleman, we can see here that his son gets healed.
- 26:05We can see here that Jesus is traveling around.
- 26:09And these are real places, friends.
- 26:12These are real people that are real time. 48 Then said Jesus
- 26:17unto him, Except you see signs and wonders, you do not believe.
- 26:2249 The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down here, my child,
- 26:27before he dies. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Go your way, your
- 26:32son lives. And the man believed the word
- 26:34that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
- 26:37So here Jesus goes to this man, and he says, You're seeking a
- 26:41sign so that you may believe. The man just sidesteps that
- 26:45comment and says please heal my son before he dies.
- 26:51Jesus sees the faith of this man.
- 26:53He heals the son. We need to be desperate like
- 26:56this man was. We don't need to take no for an
- 26:59answer. We don't need to be called a
- 27:01dog. We need to make sure that, like
- 27:04the Syrophoenician woman, that we press hard, and that we make
- 27:08sure that Jesus knows that our faith is in him and him alone,
- 27:13whether he heals or whether he doesn't heal, whether he chooses
- 27:16to or whether he chooses to leave us in it.
- 27:19We cannot let our faith waver. We must increase that faith. 51
- 27:26in his. He was now going down.
- 27:28His servants met him and told him, saying, Your son lives. 52
- 27:33Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend, and
- 27:38they said unto him, Yesterday the 7th hour, the fever left
- 27:42him. 53 So the Father knew that it was at the same hour in the
- 27:47which Jesus said unto him, Your Son lives, and he believed him,
- 27:51and his whole house. 54 will end here.
- 27:54This is again the second miracle that Jesus did when he was come
- 27:58out of Judea into Galilee. So we can see here, friends,
- 28:03that Jesus heals. He can heal from a distance and
- 28:08it takes faith, friends, that's what it takes.
- 28:11We must increase our faith. We must know that God can do
- 28:15anything. We need to know that He can heal
- 28:18from a distance. He can heal with the touch.
- 28:20We need to know that He is limitless in His power.
- 28:23And what is all hinged upon is faith.
- 28:26If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to
- 28:29this mountain move and it'll move.
- 28:31You can say to this ocean part and it will part.
- 28:35You can say to this body be healed and it'll be healed.
- 28:38Friends. You can say demons run and they
- 28:40run friends in Jesus name. I pray that you understand that
- 28:46it is faith. It is faith that pleases God
- 28:49friends, and we must increase it.
- 28:51I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter here in the
- 28:54book of John. I know I sure have, many times
- 28:57over. I love you and so does God.
- 29:11I'm praying for you. I'm praying that you'll walk in
- 29:16this bridal identity. I'm praying that you understand
- 29:20deep calls to deep. I'm praying that the Spirit is
- 29:24connected with the Spirit of God.
- 29:27I pray that you are able to discern and understand all of
- 29:32these deep truths. I pray that you are in the Word
- 29:35and the Word is in you today. I'm praying for you.
- 29:39I pray that your body is healed and the prodigals come home.
- 29:48Stay prayed up. Stay blessed.
- 29:52We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 29:53God bless you.
