- 0:00Speaker 1: That's impossible.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Let me tell you what I believe.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's your weakness, it's not your technique. Don't think you know.
- 0:12Speaker 3: The Impossible Life Podcast and yes, sitting on a winning lottery.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Second, an idea that is fully formed, fully understood.
- 0:19Speaker 1: That sticks. This is the Impossible Life Podcast because Nick
- 0:26Speaker 1: and I are attempting to live impossible lives. What we
- 0:30Speaker 1: know is that nothing is impossible. So instead of using
- 0:33Speaker 1: impossible as an excuse to not try, we'll use the
- 0:37Speaker 1: pursuit of impossible as an accelerant for greatness. If something's
- 0:41Speaker 1: never been done before, that just means it's unexplored. If
- 0:45Speaker 1: they tell you it's too hard, it's just waiting to
- 0:48Speaker 1: be simplified. Impossible as a default label used by uncourageous
- 0:53Speaker 1: people unwilling to take a risk. The real truth is this.
- 0:58Speaker 1: The solution to any impossible task starts with this question,
- 1:03Speaker 1: If I had to what would it take? What would
- 1:05Speaker 1: it take?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Welcome to another episode of the Impossible Life Podcast. I'm
- 1:11Speaker 2: your co host, Nick Surface, and I'm looking across at
- 1:13Speaker 2: a man so capable he recently developed a sixth sense.
- 1:16Speaker 2: That's right. Friends, the fore Garrett Uncle back, a man
- 1:23Speaker 2: with infrared vision that allows him to see all the
- 1:25Speaker 2: weaknesses in a person from up to seventy five feet away.
- 1:29Speaker 1: That's very limited.
- 1:31Speaker 2: All right, man, Well you know you developed it, Maybe
- 1:33Speaker 2: you should develop a better sense. Would you like one
- 1:35Speaker 2: hundred and fifty range?
- 1:36Speaker 1: I can smell your weakness before it walks through the door.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Well did? I actually was inspired by the pit viper,
- 1:41Speaker 2: which you know they have the infrared vision. It serves
- 1:43Speaker 2: them pretty well. So I was thinking, you know, what
- 1:45Speaker 2: would you develop also known as a noeprope? Yeah, for real,
- 1:50Speaker 2: stay clear, stay clear a argie. Well, this is a
- 1:52Speaker 2: fun one because we're doing tools and tactics in person
- 1:54Speaker 2: since we're a day late today, and I much prefer
- 1:57Speaker 2: doing them in person, and so does our video and
- 1:59Speaker 2: audio equality. So I'm glad that we're doing this. We
- 2:01Speaker 2: are here, we are so man. Today we're covering change
- 2:04Speaker 2: and specifically why you can't change because so many people
- 2:08Speaker 2: I think people can experience change, but they struggle with
- 2:10Speaker 2: lasting change. And this is true of so many programs.
- 2:14Speaker 2: And you know we have our thirty day Discipline Challenge
- 2:17Speaker 2: Basic discipline training, which if you haven't done it, go
- 2:19Speaker 2: do it. It's free. It's on school. I promise you.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It'll be a massively beneficial thirty days. I've done it myself.
- 2:25Speaker 2: You'll get plenty of mindset from Garrett in like bite
- 2:27Speaker 2: size one minute chunks. You'll read your Bible every day.
- 2:30Speaker 2: We give you all that, and you'll get a podcast
- 2:32Speaker 2: to listen to, plus a workout that requires absolutely no
- 2:35Speaker 2: equipment whatsoever. And at the end of thirty days, if
- 2:38Speaker 2: you do what we actually say and not your own
- 2:40Speaker 2: version of it, you will be noticeably better and improved.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And then after that here's the hard part.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Gy.
- 2:45Speaker 2: It's up to you what you do. And this is
- 2:47Speaker 2: where so many people.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I would say, also, this program is really great. It's
- 2:52Speaker 1: great for anyone, but also great if you're new to
- 2:54Speaker 1: the podcast. Yeah, because part of the daily work is
- 2:58Speaker 1: some podcasts listening, right, And I love it when I
- 3:02Speaker 1: meet people who are new to the show, or or
- 3:05Speaker 1: when I meet people who listen to the show. And
- 3:08Speaker 1: if you tell me you listen to the podcast just now,
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm going to ask you, right, I don't lie to me.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I'm just curious, and it's fine if you haven't. But
- 3:14Speaker 1: I asked people like, hey, how many episodes have you
- 3:16Speaker 1: listened to? And some people say twenty or fifty. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: think that's great. Yeah, And then I have other people
- 3:21Speaker 1: who are like, I've no, I've listened every episode. Like
- 3:23Speaker 1: I met a guy the other day and I asked
- 3:27Speaker 1: him how many listens, how many episodes he's listened to.
- 3:29Speaker 1: He's like, no, I've listened to all of them. I go, wow,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I long, how long have you been listening to those
- 3:32Speaker 1: four months? Yeah, we had went all the way back
- 3:35Speaker 1: to the beginning, listened to every single episode in four months.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I get to interact with a lot more listeners
- 3:41Speaker 2: than you. We had a guy right now. I'm sorry,
- 3:42Speaker 2: I don't have his name. It just popped. Uh, this
- 3:44Speaker 2: story popped in my head, but I don't have his name,
- 3:46Speaker 2: so I apologize for not giving you the shout out.
- 3:47Speaker 2: He said he's listened to every episode five times.
- 3:50Speaker 1: What.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, you you are like the champion
- 3:52Speaker 2: of listen. I think that's the most I've heard of anybody.
- 3:55Speaker 2: And then we had I mean, like, for example, what
- 3:57Speaker 2: you said. We had a guy a comment on our
- 3:58Speaker 2: fear series, which the Fear series is awesome. It will
- 4:01Speaker 2: help and he talked about how it helped him eliminate
- 4:03Speaker 2: fear exactly, and it's like praise for example.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And really the point I was making if you're new
- 4:07Speaker 1: to the show, going through the discipline training will expose
- 4:12Speaker 1: you to some of the old If you just jumped,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you know you like the show and you just caught
- 4:15Speaker 1: up where you were six months ago, and you've just
- 4:17Speaker 1: been listening to those episodes, that's fine. But there's some
- 4:20Speaker 1: great series, like one of the original I think it
- 4:22Speaker 1: was the first series we did. We did a three
- 4:24Speaker 1: part series on fear, and we go through that or
- 4:26Speaker 1: you get told to listen to it in the discipline training.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Some amazing stuff back there anyways, talking about the change, talking.
- 4:35Speaker 2: About the change process, and so like we see this
- 4:37Speaker 2: all the time. One of the more well known recent ones.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Because as much as I would love for our basic
- 4:41Speaker 2: disciline training to go viral, not for us, but because
- 4:43Speaker 2: then people would be reading the word and getting close
- 4:44Speaker 2: to the Lord, there was something that went viral. The
- 4:47Speaker 2: Fitness Challenge of course seventy five Hard from Andy Forslogy,
- 4:50Speaker 2: and the seventy five Hard was pretty simple. It had
- 4:52Speaker 2: a book, you do two forty five minute workouts a day,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and one had to be outside structured diet, drinking gallon
- 4:57Speaker 2: of water a day, read ten pages of nonfiction, and
- 5:00Speaker 2: take a daily progress photo. If you miss a day over,
- 5:03Speaker 2: you start over from the beginning. Now yeah, now that's
- 5:06Speaker 2: so like this came out.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Now.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I was actually really surprised because that is not easy, okay.
- 5:11Speaker 2: And I was actually surprised that this thing went viral
- 5:13Speaker 2: at the time. And I watched as like friends and
- 5:15Speaker 2: people I knew, you know, they're posting their progress photos
- 5:17Speaker 2: and You're like, man, you're jacked. And then I would
- 5:19Speaker 2: see these same people like twenty one days later, and
- 5:22Speaker 2: I'm like, ooh, you're not jacked anymore. Like you you
- 5:25Speaker 2: went seventy five hard and then just went straight back
- 5:27Speaker 2: to whatever seventy five normal was or whatever left in
- 5:31Speaker 2: the year three hundred or two hundred and ninety normal, right,
- 5:34Speaker 2: And so like, what's so funny is you get to
- 5:36Speaker 2: see people's what people do, right, because what society did
- 5:41Speaker 2: you feed something like that that actually can help you
- 5:43Speaker 2: make an impacting your life in seventy five days, you
- 5:45Speaker 2: feed that through the old social media machine, and what
- 5:48Speaker 2: happens People start whining and complaining about it, debunking it.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You get all the TikTokers, and so this thing developed
- 5:53Speaker 2: called seventy five soft right, and this was like their
- 5:57Speaker 2: like compromised version of you don't have to start over,
- 6:00Speaker 2: can drink, you should take a round and like they
- 6:02Speaker 2: basically came up with their own version because what people.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Realize that's extremely low tea, right, Well, what it was
- 6:08Speaker 1: was not hard dog. That's a corn dog.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Right. You love corn dogs, dude, you got to find
- 6:13Speaker 2: something else other than that.
- 6:14Speaker 1: No, I like corn dogs. And how many corn dogs
- 6:16Speaker 1: do actually get to eat a year? I don't know
- 6:18Speaker 1: half a dozen? Right, So that pains are your heart.
- 6:21Speaker 2: But the point being, I think it's so interesting that
- 6:24Speaker 2: like we we can see something that's effective for change
- 6:28Speaker 2: and we immediately like if it doesn't shange, if it's
- 6:31Speaker 2: not forever, then we're like, well, I don't know if
- 6:33Speaker 2: that really worked. And so so many people I think
- 6:36Speaker 2: can come out of a period like that. I've seen
- 6:37Speaker 2: it myself. They'll come out of the thirty day discipline
- 6:39Speaker 2: training and they're like, man, I'm like on fire, and like,
- 6:43Speaker 2: if you don't understand how change process happens and what's
- 6:46Speaker 2: actually important, you will find yourself reverting back. And that
- 6:49Speaker 2: is one of the hardest things to deal with because
- 6:51Speaker 2: now you have to go like, was all that and
- 6:53Speaker 2: a lie? And that's where a lot of people you
- 6:54Speaker 2: know then so then you change the program, right because
- 6:56Speaker 2: clearly the program is the problem, not you. And this
- 6:58Speaker 2: is what this is what's so interesting to me about
- 7:00Speaker 2: the psychology. So I want to dive into why people
- 7:03Speaker 2: can't change. You've used your Garret uncle Bock brain to
- 7:07Speaker 2: categorize very systematically and break down the elements of change nowhere.
- 7:10Speaker 1: So much of this starts for me is this is like,
- 7:15Speaker 1: this is my actual sixth sense. And this is one
- 7:18Speaker 1: of the things about you about me that you appreciate.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Your actual I love that you referenced the true.
- 7:23Speaker 1: One of the things about me that you appreciate, Yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 1: is when stuff's not when people believe something that's not true.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I get that's where I get a little autistic and
- 7:33Speaker 1: I get stuck on something. And one of the things
- 7:36Speaker 1: that people say that will bought like, oh I can't
- 7:39Speaker 1: be that way or I can't change, and that's it's
- 7:43Speaker 1: it's my kids got you know, some of my oldest
- 7:45Speaker 1: got a little bit of my stubbornness or denial or
- 7:48Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it. But I hear things
- 7:50Speaker 1: like that and I'm like, no, that's not right. You
- 7:53Speaker 1: can change. Who told you that you're that way? Who
- 7:56Speaker 1: told you you can't change? And then that's a thought
- 8:00Speaker 1: for me that I've this is what I've worked through.
- 8:02Speaker 1: That's why today's prep was really easy, right. I mean
- 8:05Speaker 1: it just I had to walk back through some of
- 8:06Speaker 1: my own thought process and how I went through this myself.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But I got reminded of it recently, and that's why
- 8:11Speaker 1: it was what I wanted to talk about today. So
- 8:14Speaker 1: people get stuck in this thought process of all I
- 8:16Speaker 1: can't be that way or I'm not like that, Like
- 8:18Speaker 1: I hate that one. Yeah, I'm not like that, says who? Right,
- 8:22Speaker 1: So let's dive into this. The beginning of understanding you
- 8:27Speaker 1: can change. This is where I'm going to start with
- 8:29Speaker 1: anything in life is the mindset shocker.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So I'm very unlike you.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Ye, well, it's you know, I'm at this point. I'm
- 8:34Speaker 1: pretty sure it's the right place to start. Neck the beginning.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Well, I say this all the time to clients. I
- 8:38Speaker 2: go the beginning of change is belief. Yeah, and I
- 8:40Speaker 2: because I dove into my own thoughts before Christ and
- 8:43Speaker 2: everything and what started me on the process, and I.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Believed It's funny, Nick, kind of like how following God
- 8:49Speaker 1: starts with you just having a little bit of faith.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Right, amazing shocker, it's a coincidence.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So there's a certain set of beliefs that I think
- 8:57Speaker 1: are going to guide us in this direction. And truly,
- 9:00Speaker 1: let me start with well definition of beliefs for those
- 9:03Speaker 1: who are new right, and a reminder for everyone else
- 9:06Speaker 1: until you should hear beliefs. If you've been listening to
- 9:08Speaker 1: this episode long enough, you hear beliefs and you know
- 9:10Speaker 1: the next words that are coming. Right, These are things
- 9:13Speaker 1: that we know are true but can't prove. And this
- 9:16Speaker 1: is really what you're going to have to anchor your
- 9:18Speaker 1: life on, right, And you don't want to live your
- 9:20Speaker 1: life anchored And this is what I've seen, you know
- 9:23Speaker 1: what that turns into. That turns into a scornful person,
- 9:26Speaker 1: that turns into a depressed person, that turns into an
- 9:28Speaker 1: empty person. You've also got to live your life based
- 9:31Speaker 1: upon what you know is true. You've got to live
- 9:33Speaker 1: your life based upon beliefs. The Bible says this is
- 9:35Speaker 1: where hope comes from, right, that that hope comes from
- 9:40Speaker 1: a belief that turns into a testing, that turns into
- 9:43Speaker 1: endurance that produces hope in the end. This is what
- 9:45Speaker 1: scripture says. So two beliefs that have shaped my life
- 9:49Speaker 1: and are going to help us unpack the ability to change.
- 9:51Speaker 1: By the way, this is what I call the infinite
- 9:53Speaker 1: potential unlock.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Number one. Hey, I thought you were quaring me up there, man.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Number one. This is purpose. Okay. God is a plan
- 10:04Speaker 1: for your life. One of the most important things that
- 10:06Speaker 1: you could ever hear, that you could ever know, is
- 10:08Speaker 1: that God is a great plan for your life. And
- 10:10Speaker 1: we talked about this the other day and some of
- 10:12Speaker 1: my friends like man, that hit me of understanding. Well
- 10:15Speaker 1: step one, Yeah, God has a plan. The next question
- 10:18Speaker 1: is do you believe God is a plan for you? Right?
- 10:21Speaker 1: But and you have to that's really when you have
- 10:23Speaker 1: this belief, that is what you believe, not just like
- 10:26Speaker 1: God is a plan. No, God is a plan for me.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, this will come a live for you when you
- 10:30Speaker 2: start reading scriptures, because everybody wants the scripture that where
- 10:33Speaker 2: God told them, Hey, man, I really chose you before
- 10:36Speaker 2: you were born, and so we'll read that like if
- 10:38Speaker 2: you read Jeremiah, it says before you were before you
- 10:40Speaker 2: when you were in the womb, I knew you when
- 10:41Speaker 2: you read in Psalms one thirty nine where he says
- 10:44Speaker 2: I formed you in the womb, formed your innermost parts.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I think a lot of people like, well, that's cool
- 10:48Speaker 2: for David, or that's cool for Jeremiah. But when you
- 10:51Speaker 2: start realizing, hang on a minute, like and I could
- 10:53Speaker 2: go through the scriptures. Now is not the time, But
- 10:55Speaker 2: there's plenty of scripture about how intimately God knows you
- 10:58Speaker 2: and that you have been craft very intentionally. And when
- 11:01Speaker 2: you wake up to that, and it's not just an idea,
- 11:03Speaker 2: it's an event, AKA, it's just the truth. It's a
- 11:06Speaker 2: factual thing to deal with. Man, the implications of that
- 11:09Speaker 2: change for you so much because now it's like, oh man,
- 11:11Speaker 2: my whole life has been crafted by the Creator, with design,
- 11:16Speaker 2: with purpose, with intent. It's so powerful.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So purpose, God is a plan, And here's what I
- 11:22Speaker 1: can guarantee you about your plan. I don't know your
- 11:25Speaker 1: purpose whoever's listening to this, though, I do always get
- 11:30Speaker 1: fascinated and helping individuals specifically walk through this process. Whatever
- 11:35Speaker 1: your plan is, here's whatever God's plan for you is.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Here's what I can tell you and can guarantee you
- 11:40Speaker 1: about that plan. It's part of that plan is that
- 11:42Speaker 1: you would grow and change. And when people tell me
- 11:45Speaker 1: I'm not like that, it's like my daughter Grace, who
- 11:49Speaker 1: you know, is like forty inches or forty five inches
- 11:52Speaker 1: tall right now, it's like here saying, well, you know,
- 11:55Speaker 1: I'm only four feet tall. You know I'm not like that.
- 11:58Speaker 2: It's just not going to get there.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, just keep going right right. This is You've got
- 12:04Speaker 1: to understand God made us in that way. God made
- 12:06Speaker 1: like even when Adam was perfect, God said, you're going
- 12:08Speaker 1: to spend time with me, you'll grow, you'll develop. It
- 12:11Speaker 1: is a part of our journey that we would grow
- 12:13Speaker 1: and change. So step one just the beginning of this.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And I'm shaking people, hopefully in your belief and your
- 12:20Speaker 1: understanding of maybe being stuck in your life on something
- 12:23Speaker 1: or you're like, I'm just not like that. Well, God
- 12:26Speaker 1: made you to grow and change.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean there's so many there's so much scripture,
- 12:30Speaker 2: but the whole of salvation like two Corinthians five seventeen. Therefore,
- 12:33Speaker 2: if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come,
- 12:36Speaker 2: the old has gone, the new is here. And when
- 12:38Speaker 2: you look over and over again, it like all the
- 12:40Speaker 2: stories of people in the Bible. God never found the
- 12:43Speaker 2: guy who was like, great, you're all set, let's go.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Like your favorite T shirt that you developed that we
- 12:47Speaker 2: sold zero of, was you are not enough, Like I
- 12:51Speaker 2: am not enough because everybody, you know, those I Am
- 12:54Speaker 2: enough shirts have went around though you're not. Yeah, and
- 12:57Speaker 2: you love saying that, and that sounds funny because you're
- 12:59Speaker 2: a Navy seal. But I think it's so interesting, Like Moses,
- 13:03Speaker 2: what a guy chosen by God delivers the Old Testament,
- 13:06Speaker 2: goes to the most powerful nas in the world and
- 13:07Speaker 2: wipes and literally like wipes off their whole leadership, not
- 13:11Speaker 2: him personally, but obviously God with the bringing the river
- 13:13Speaker 2: back over them. Now, what's so amazing is when God said, Moses,
- 13:17Speaker 2: here's the plan. You're the guy, here's what you're gonna
- 13:19Speaker 2: go do. He's like, yeah, you got the wrong guy.
- 13:21Speaker 2: He told God five times, he went through all the
- 13:23Speaker 2: different things. Who am I you know, like, I'm not
- 13:26Speaker 2: very good at speech. What if the people who are
- 13:28Speaker 2: leading Israel don't believe me? Not one time? Did God go, hey,
- 13:31Speaker 2: come on, man, like you grew up in Israel or
- 13:34Speaker 2: you grew up in Egypt. You got this, Like there's
- 13:37Speaker 2: people there who will still know you like you were trying.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You know what he said every single time whenever MOS
- 13:41Speaker 2: was like who am I, he goes, I will be
- 13:42Speaker 2: with you, right. It was always it was never like yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 2: you're right, like let me encourage you. It was like, no,
- 13:48Speaker 2: I'm going to be there to make up what you lack.
- 13:50Speaker 2: And that is a really key thing. I think if
- 13:53Speaker 2: we feel like we have to wait until we're ready,
- 13:55Speaker 2: It's like people say this about having kids, You're never
- 13:57Speaker 2: gonna feel ready, right, And it's the same thing. If
- 13:59Speaker 2: you feel like you're gonna have to get to a
- 14:00Speaker 2: point where like, Okay, God, I finally trained and now
- 14:03Speaker 2: I can go, it's like, no, you're missing it. The
- 14:04Speaker 2: whole point is that that you're only enough with God.
- 14:07Speaker 2: You're never meant to do it on your own. So
- 14:09Speaker 2: I really want to highlight.
- 14:10Speaker 1: That second second part here, right, This is the infinite
- 14:13Speaker 1: potential unlock. Just a great reminder for those of you
- 14:16Speaker 1: who don't know it. Number One, God is planned. Number
- 14:19Speaker 1: two is you can have anything you want in life
- 14:23Speaker 1: if you're willing to pay the price. This is something
- 14:26Speaker 1: my parents said to me all the time. And you
- 14:28Speaker 1: know what that means. That means you can grow. It
- 14:31Speaker 1: means you can learn. That means when I was, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 1: thirteen years old and I wanted to be James Bond
- 14:37Speaker 1: and Jackie Chan, but I was skinny and had an afro,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you know what I knew. I knew I could change.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I knew I could be different. And you've got to
- 14:46Speaker 1: understand that this is just a part of your process
- 14:48Speaker 1: in life, that there's things you're going to like. Not
- 14:51Speaker 1: only has God meant a sanctification and transformation process for
- 14:55Speaker 1: you that you would change in the most important way
- 14:57Speaker 1: inside spiritually and through him. Also, you know you can
- 15:01Speaker 1: develop yourself in a million different ways. That's the second piece.
- 15:04Speaker 1: You got to have both of these. God is a
- 15:06Speaker 1: plan and you can have anything you want in life
- 15:08Speaker 1: if you're willing to pay the price for it. You
- 15:10Speaker 1: can grow and develop, you can be different. And who
- 15:12Speaker 1: told you that you're not smart? Who told you that
- 15:14Speaker 1: you're not whatever is is a you know, trigger word
- 15:18Speaker 1: for you can change.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, it's very rare that we get such direct
- 15:23Speaker 2: scriptures that tell us very clearly what God's will is
- 15:26Speaker 2: for usg But there's no room for interpretation here. First,
- 15:28Speaker 2: let's Lilian's four to three for this is the will
- 15:31Speaker 2: of God, pretty plane, your sanctification, and then he goes
- 15:34Speaker 2: into all the what that means for them. It doesn't
- 15:37Speaker 2: really get any more plane than I think. This is
- 15:39Speaker 2: where so many people miss what salvation is and what
- 15:43Speaker 2: you said about paying the price, because so often it's
- 15:46Speaker 2: easy to be like, man, well I'm gonna get safe
- 15:48Speaker 2: and then I'm just not gonna want these things anymore, right,
- 15:50Speaker 2: And it's like, no, I wish that was the case.
- 15:53Speaker 1: There are someone Once I become a Navy seal, I
- 15:56Speaker 1: just I'm automatically a terminator, right, yeah, obviously everything I'm
- 15:59Speaker 1: just younger than everyone, and I have ultimate infinite discipline
- 16:04Speaker 1: and everything is just easy and I can't be stopped, right,
- 16:06Speaker 1: you know, it gets harder and it doesn't you know,
- 16:09Speaker 1: you you now the expectation is.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Higher, right, And I think that when you if you
- 16:14Speaker 2: think that's the way it's going to be a you're
- 16:15Speaker 2: following your feelings, right, because you're you're like, I just
- 16:18Speaker 2: won't want to do anything you're gonna want to do.
- 16:20Speaker 1: It's the worst question you can ask. When's it going
- 16:22Speaker 1: to be easy?
- 16:22Speaker 2: Right?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:24Speaker 2: Exactly right? And as always you just sum it up
- 16:26Speaker 2: very shortly. And that's that's that's.
- 16:27Speaker 1: The reason these podcasts are less than an hour, not
- 16:30Speaker 1: two hours. Okay, anyways, that was a good dig I
- 16:34Speaker 1: applaud you.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Actually, that's see, that's the kind of roasting of a
- 16:37Speaker 2: friend that you just have to go like, yeah, well done,
- 16:39Speaker 2: that has some that had some art to it. You're
- 16:41Speaker 2: to play my part. Yeah, well you're playing your part well.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So the point is just no, that process is what
- 16:47Speaker 2: you're gonna be. And we're going to go into the
- 16:48Speaker 2: change process. And I want to give this big, big,
- 16:50Speaker 2: big note because we highlight the fact that you need
- 16:52Speaker 2: to know that when you get say it saved, you
- 16:54Speaker 2: have a deposit the Holy Spirit in you. But the
- 16:55Speaker 2: sanctification process means that there's still gonna be plenty of
- 16:58Speaker 2: things that get to be worked out as you become
- 17:00Speaker 2: completely dedicated to God's purpose for you in your life.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And just a reminder that there's responsibility those of you
- 17:08Speaker 1: who have the privilege of living in this area or
- 17:11Speaker 1: who have come and visited Frisco and been to mighty men.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You hear me say this all the time. God's sovereign,
- 17:17Speaker 1: man's responsible. There's a part that God. God's in control
- 17:21Speaker 1: of it all, and there's a little peace that God said, Okay,
- 17:23Speaker 1: this part's up to you. Roman's twelve one and two
- 17:26Speaker 1: hits on that process. That's part of the reason that
- 17:29Speaker 1: we do push ups and at our at our men's group,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and in our discipleship process. The whole point is there's
- 17:35Speaker 1: a reminder, it's not God's not going to do everything
- 17:37Speaker 1: for you.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah, there's parts that you have to do right, and
- 17:40Speaker 2: here's another. But here's another part where it takes submission
- 17:43Speaker 2: and humility for this process, which is a change. You
- 17:46Speaker 2: don't get to determine how long it is.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Dang it?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Well, I mean, what can at least speed up? No,
- 17:51Speaker 2: that's still trying to determine how long it is.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I love that that piece and I give this to
- 17:55Speaker 1: people all the time. In Metcalf's Chop wood carry water,
- 18:00Speaker 1: do you remember this where the guy goes, well, what
- 18:02Speaker 1: if I, you know, carry do all my wood carrying
- 18:05Speaker 1: and wood chopping and water carrying faster, and then I
- 18:08Speaker 1: shoot twice as long in the afternoon, then how long
- 18:11Speaker 1: will it take? And the guys like it takes longer? What?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:15Speaker 1: I mean?
- 18:15Speaker 2: And that that is I think that that release of
- 18:19Speaker 2: time is one of the hardest things because over and
- 18:21Speaker 2: over again we're reminded of how finite we are. But
- 18:23Speaker 2: when you can release the time process, like hey, when
- 18:26Speaker 2: are you going to step into whatever it is this
- 18:28Speaker 2: calling that you think you have is when God says
- 18:30Speaker 2: you're ready? Well, yeah, but I thought it would be
- 18:32Speaker 2: great because I'm like, I'm like forty now, and like really,
- 18:34Speaker 2: you know, that's a holy noe, Okay, like cool story.
- 18:37Speaker 1: It's the equivalent of you know, one of my kids
- 18:41Speaker 1: or even one of yours, saying I think I'm ready
- 18:43Speaker 1: to drive now. Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Yeah, But that's a lot clearer than even what we
- 18:47Speaker 2: get because it's not like God didn't say you will
- 18:49Speaker 2: enter your call. And by the time it's like some
- 18:51Speaker 2: people very young, other people very.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Old, right, or you know, maybe Abraham and you have
- 18:56Speaker 1: the child that God called you to have at a
- 18:58Speaker 1: hundred years.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Old, yeah, or Moses what was like eighty two whenever
- 19:01Speaker 2: he's like went to go see you know, just crazy
- 19:04Speaker 2: so or you think he was eighty years old anyways,
- 19:06Speaker 2: all right, So you broke the change process down into
- 19:09Speaker 2: three categories.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I don't know if you want to get at and
- 19:11Speaker 1: a great master chief. And I had a few great
- 19:15Speaker 1: master chiefs that I learned from in the navy. These
- 19:18Speaker 1: are you know, you spend twenty five years in the
- 19:20Speaker 1: seal teams, you're gonna have announce of wisdom, right, And
- 19:23Speaker 1: some of what's funny, I think a couple of these
- 19:25Speaker 1: guys that know their story, and it's like they didn't
- 19:27Speaker 1: come from a wise home. Right. These guy like their
- 19:30Speaker 1: wisdom was squeezed out of blood. Right. Yeah. But and
- 19:34Speaker 1: but the wisdom they had was very refined. And one
- 19:38Speaker 1: of them said to me, all complicated problems are just
- 19:41Speaker 1: a bunch of simple problems put together. And if you're
- 19:43Speaker 1: great at simple problems, then complicated problems are easy for
- 19:46Speaker 1: you too, right, So good. And so the change process,
- 19:50Speaker 1: like you look at anything that's difficult in your life,
- 19:53Speaker 1: growing and changing is difficult, okay. And why because it's
- 19:56Speaker 1: a multifaceted problem. There's more than one thing going on.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And if you try to you know, figure out how
- 20:02Speaker 1: to do if you're not looking at all the different
- 20:04Speaker 1: elements and you just try to do three things at
- 20:06Speaker 1: the same time, it's near infinitely possible. Until you simplify
- 20:11Speaker 1: the problem, and until you simplify the problem and say Okay,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I just have to do this and this and this
- 20:19Speaker 1: and will succeed. So what we're gonna do is I'm
- 20:22Speaker 1: going to break down changing and growing into three main categories.
- 20:28Speaker 1: And the whole point this entire podcast is teach a
- 20:31Speaker 1: man to fish. Okay. What I'm trying to do here
- 20:33Speaker 1: is teach you how to fish, teach you how to
- 20:36Speaker 1: change that. If you could say is this is the
- 20:39Speaker 1: fruit of my life that I'm trying to give to
- 20:41Speaker 1: other people. If you could think different, your life would
- 20:43Speaker 1: be different. And so that's what I've tried to do.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I know if my thinking in my mindset has brought
- 20:49Speaker 1: me to where I am in life, and so I'm
- 20:50Speaker 1: always trying to just give that a way to people.
- 20:52Speaker 1: And so what I want you to have is this
- 20:54Speaker 1: mindset of Okay, I can change. We just covered that,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and then here's the way that I need to categorize.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Here's the way that I need to think through changing,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and now I can go and address my problems better. Yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Good. And there's three things here. So we're saying that
- 21:06Speaker 2: these three things are the reason why you're not changing.
- 21:09Speaker 2: What I want to also say, it is highly unlikely
- 21:12Speaker 2: that you will only be suffering in one of these right,
- 21:14Speaker 2: there will be a varying degree, so like it's not like, oh,
- 21:16Speaker 2: if I can just figure this one part out, the
- 21:18Speaker 2: other two are like at one hundred, that's that's not
- 21:20Speaker 2: actually not going to be the case. There's gonna be
- 21:22Speaker 2: elements where I think each of these three are going
- 21:25Speaker 2: to be of greater significance, and that will be part
- 21:29Speaker 2: of the process.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Is that it is take time. So I'm gonna give
- 21:32Speaker 1: all three of them really quick. Then we're going to
- 21:34Speaker 1: talk through them. Let's do it, and I will let
- 21:36Speaker 1: me prove it to you. Okay, okay, these three things,
- 21:39Speaker 1: this is the three different categories or understanding the change
- 21:42Speaker 1: process that you got to get all these right, to
- 21:44Speaker 1: be able to all these things right, to be able
- 21:46Speaker 1: to grow and change. That you could look at that
- 21:49Speaker 1: question the same way that I am, and instead of
- 21:51Speaker 1: being someone who says I'm not like that, be someone
- 21:54Speaker 1: who says, what would it take for me to be
- 21:56Speaker 1: like that? Right? Right? And that can be like really
- 21:58Speaker 1: admirable things that can be stuff that you really want
- 22:01Speaker 1: to become, like you want to become special in a
- 22:03Speaker 1: certain way. But you could look at any of these
- 22:05Speaker 1: categories in your life and or any of these things
- 22:08Speaker 1: great things that you want to be and say, Okay,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I I could be like that. Here's the process that
- 22:12Speaker 1: I got to go through. So these three things sin
- 22:15Speaker 1: skill and suffering, and I would say positive suffering. I'm
- 22:20Speaker 1: quick to remind men that they find plenty of dumb
- 22:22Speaker 1: suffering in your life. And that's you fixing the you know,
- 22:25Speaker 1: the flat tire because you drove over the you know,
- 22:29Speaker 1: the wrong way, exactly right, you drove over the like
- 22:33Speaker 1: you did that to yourself. This isn't like, this is
- 22:36Speaker 1: a dummy reminder. This isn't like positive development reminders. Okay,
- 22:40Speaker 1: so sin skill and positive suffering. Now, I think let's
- 22:44Speaker 1: let's just take anything that you want to change in
- 22:47Speaker 1: your life. I want to lose weight. I want to
- 22:49Speaker 1: I want to be able to make money. I want
- 22:52Speaker 1: to I'm tired of being poor. I want to stop
- 22:55Speaker 1: losing my temper. I want to stop cursing. I want
- 22:57Speaker 1: to be smart.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Better marriage.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I want to have a better marriage. You've always told
- 23:00Speaker 1: me I was dumb, and I don't want to be dumb.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I want to be admired.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Whatever it is.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, insert.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Anything if you now let's just pick one. Okay, if
- 23:09Speaker 1: you want to make more money, if you are skilled
- 23:15Speaker 1: and you are willing to go through suffering, okay, hard work,
- 23:19Speaker 1: but you are you aremired in sin, then you're going
- 23:25Speaker 1: you're going to probably struggle if you want to, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 1: if you want to lose weight, and say you are okay, like,
- 23:33Speaker 1: and I'm proving this by getting a couple of them, right,
- 23:36Speaker 1: missing one. Okay, I want to lose weight, and you're
- 23:39Speaker 1: a very godly person and you're willing to do the
- 23:42Speaker 1: hard work, but you're a zero in the skill category.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You're going to struggle to lose weight if you could
- 23:48Speaker 1: get that third one, Like, if you're and this this
- 23:50Speaker 1: is for people who struggle to lose weight, you're missing
- 23:53Speaker 1: one of these things. Maybe you have the skill and
- 23:56Speaker 1: maybe you're willing to pay the price, but you might
- 23:59Speaker 1: have you might have some sinful mindset, some sinful thought
- 24:02Speaker 1: processes that keep pulling you back into your old ways.
- 24:06Speaker 1: For a lot of people struggling to lose weight, it's
- 24:10Speaker 1: either the skill or the suffering, right, right, But for
- 24:14Speaker 1: any of these different categories of processes in your life
- 24:17Speaker 1: that you want to change, if you can become godly,
- 24:20Speaker 1: and that's not perfect. If you can become godly, if
- 24:23Speaker 1: you can develop the skill required, and if you're willing
- 24:27Speaker 1: to pay the price, if you're willing to go through
- 24:28Speaker 1: the positive suffering, you can change. So infant potential unlock.
- 24:33Speaker 1: God is a plan for your life. I can have
- 24:35Speaker 1: anything I want if I'm willing to pay the price.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Know that you have the ability to change. Let's talk
- 24:40Speaker 1: through really quickly some of these three things. So number
- 24:42Speaker 1: one sin category, and certainly on an episode that is
- 24:48Speaker 1: mindset and belief based, because a lot of this is
- 24:51Speaker 1: less tactical, much more mindset and belief today. If you
- 24:55Speaker 1: pay attention on the episodes or we give more scripture,
- 24:58Speaker 1: it's on the episode that are more mindset and belief based.
- 25:01Speaker 1: I'm not trying to teach you and baptize you in
- 25:04Speaker 1: the ways of Garrett R. Right. What I'm trying to
- 25:06Speaker 1: teach you is this is what's right, and this is
- 25:07Speaker 1: what's true. Second Peter, Chapter one, verse three and four.
- 25:11Speaker 1: His divine power has given us everything we need for
- 25:15Speaker 1: a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called
- 25:19Speaker 1: us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he
- 25:23Speaker 1: has given us his very great and precious promises, so
- 25:27Speaker 1: that through them you may participate in the divine nature,
- 25:31Speaker 1: having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
- 25:36Speaker 1: What is this saying, like, God's divine power given us
- 25:40Speaker 1: everything we need for a godly life. It's not saying
- 25:43Speaker 1: that you could be perfect. It's saying that you could
- 25:46Speaker 1: live a godly life. And you know what a godly
- 25:48Speaker 1: life is. You probably don't sin very often.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, let me ask you a question on this.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Gee.
- 25:52Speaker 2: So, because I think everybody out there, nobody out there
- 25:55Speaker 2: is going like, yeah, dude, sins a good thing, right,
- 25:57Speaker 2: I don't think anybody's going to defend that position.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah, but we also all have things that we know
- 26:00Speaker 1: are sin that we do correct.
- 26:02Speaker 2: But then there's also where I'm kind of curious, because
- 26:05Speaker 2: some sins are obvious, some are very deceptive, and the
- 26:08Speaker 2: deceptive ones are the hardest. Like pride. People struggle with
- 26:11Speaker 2: pride for a reason. So how do you deal with
- 26:13Speaker 2: sin when you're unsure if it's sinful or not? You know,
- 26:16Speaker 2: because like you know, thank God, God doesn't show us
- 26:19Speaker 2: all our sins at once.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a that's a good question that I think
- 26:23Speaker 1: people struggle with. And I know why you're asking me
- 26:25Speaker 1: this question. I know you know the answer to this question.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Nick.
- 26:30Speaker 1: The sin that's obvious to you is the sin that
- 26:33Speaker 1: you're supposed to change right now, right okay? And there
- 26:36Speaker 1: is some sin. And this is where like it's I
- 26:41Speaker 1: love and we have guys who are about to start
- 26:42Speaker 1: going through the freedom process at church. And this is
- 26:45Speaker 1: also like I've experienced this in my own life before
- 26:48Speaker 1: where I'm like, God, why can't you know I'm gonna
- 26:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna overgeneralize here and not spend the time telling
- 26:54Speaker 1: a story, but I'm saying, God, why why can't like
- 26:57Speaker 1: I move forward in this area of business in my life?
- 27:00Speaker 1: And God's like, what I hear the Lord tell me
- 27:02Speaker 1: is like you need to forgive that person. I'm like,
- 27:04Speaker 1: that's not hold on. Nothing has nothing to do with
- 27:07Speaker 1: what I'm asking you right now. I said that to say,
- 27:11Speaker 1: the sin that's obvious for you is the sin that
- 27:13Speaker 1: you're supposed to change. Like the path of following God
- 27:15Speaker 1: is faithful obedience, okay, And God's not trying to jump
- 27:19Speaker 1: you from level one to level one hundred. Is the
- 27:22Speaker 1: it is the karate kid analogy, or it is chop
- 27:25Speaker 1: wood carry water wax on, wax off. God's like the
- 27:29Speaker 1: stuff that's obvious to you, that's what you need to
- 27:30Speaker 1: do right now. Don't worry about the stuff that's not
- 27:33Speaker 1: obvious to your God is not. God's requirement of you
- 27:36Speaker 1: is not that you're as smart as he is.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I hope that releases so many people. Just basically to
- 27:41Speaker 1: do what you know to do. And there is sin
- 27:44Speaker 1: today that is obvious in my life that was not
- 27:46Speaker 1: obvious to me before. Yeah. Why because you grow and develop.
- 27:50Speaker 1: This is developing in any martial art. This is developing
- 27:53Speaker 1: in any great skill. There's stuff that at a certain
- 27:56Speaker 1: when you're a master of something, you'd make like little
- 27:58Speaker 1: mistakes and your friend or you're instruction like Matt, Wow,
- 28:01Speaker 1: you're an idiot, right, but there would you would never
- 28:04Speaker 1: have that expectation of someone who's new. Right. This is
- 28:07Speaker 1: the same as we watch guys develop and grow in
- 28:09Speaker 1: their faith. I love the guy. It's always like it's
- 28:13Speaker 1: a small blip in guy's story. But it's always funny
- 28:16Speaker 1: to me when I meet guys who it's like like
- 28:19Speaker 1: you can see it on them, like they're new in
- 28:21Speaker 1: their faith. They're all about it. They're reading their Bible,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and they just curse left and right right, and but
- 28:26Speaker 1: it's like so innocent that they had. They just haven't
- 28:29Speaker 1: been convicted in that area yet because they're brand new,
- 28:32Speaker 1: like coming to it's it's not hey, quit cursing, you know,
- 28:37Speaker 1: quit having addiction, quit watching porn, then come to.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Church, right, yeah, bring all that stuff to the Jesus.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Jesus said, if you love me, you'll obey my commands.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And it wasn't an ultimatum. The more you love me,
- 28:49Speaker 1: the less you'll do that stuff.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Very good man, all right, So number two was skill.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Skill. Man. I was saying this to Nick. The more
- 28:57Speaker 1: I've I've been through many seasons of this in my life.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I've been around very skilled people in the seal teams.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I've been around Navy seals of success, people who are
- 29:11Speaker 1: very capable, And something that exposed to me is like, man,
- 29:15Speaker 1: this really is a skill issue. When I look at
- 29:17Speaker 1: guys like guys that are great in the seal teams,
- 29:20Speaker 1: like this dude wasn't born this way. People who are
- 29:23Speaker 1: great in business, this guy wasn't born this way. Like
- 29:26Speaker 1: they've learned a lot of great lessons. They've really developed themselves.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Look at the way guys like Steph Curry can shoot. Now,
- 29:33Speaker 1: Steph Curry's a very talented athlete. Just watch him play golf,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and like, this dude's gifted. But he's also like, if
- 29:39Speaker 1: you know his training routine, these guys are go way
- 29:43Speaker 1: beyond the normal person. Michael Phelps talks about, He's like,
- 29:47Speaker 1: I knew I was going to win because I knew
- 29:49Speaker 1: I trained harder than anybody else on the planet. Right,
- 29:53Speaker 1: He's like the amount of time he was spending like
- 29:56Speaker 1: eight hours or something in the pool per day. Right.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I've seen a podcast where he's talking about his story
- 30:03Speaker 1: and his preparation for Olympics. He's like, winning was obvious, Right,
- 30:08Speaker 1: I was going to win just because of the amount
- 30:10Speaker 1: that I prepared. So so many people think like, well, man,
- 30:13Speaker 1: it's just so easy. It's not easy, dude. Yeah, you
- 30:17Speaker 1: have to learn. But if you'll learn the skills, you'll
- 30:20Speaker 1: be great.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Now you know the stories that came out of
- 30:22Speaker 2: that were Michael Phelips eats twenty five thousand calories a
- 30:25Speaker 2: day and eats McDonald's, and he happens to have really
- 30:28Speaker 2: long arms. And so the stories that the journalists tell
- 30:31Speaker 2: are all the exceptional little things that he has that
- 30:33Speaker 2: you can't get, like longer arms, and.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Plenty of people have that.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Well, that's exactly what the point level, right, exactly the
- 30:39Speaker 2: point they're missing what actually makes the difference, and that
- 30:42Speaker 2: because because it's not you.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Know, well, I always joke about, you know, me not
- 30:46Speaker 1: being good at golf. After how much time I've played,
- 30:48Speaker 1: I know why I'm not good at golf, right, because
- 30:51Speaker 1: I don't do what I know greatness requires. Right, I've like,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I've I've played a lot of golf. I really like golf,
- 30:58Speaker 1: and I've played a lot of golf with people who
- 31:00Speaker 1: are great. I know that's not enough, I joke, and
- 31:03Speaker 1: so I just enjoy it and I don't care that
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'm not as good as i'd like to be at golf.
- 31:07Speaker 1: If I wanted to be good at golf, i'd go
- 31:08Speaker 1: be good at golf. I know what it takes, I
- 31:11Speaker 1: understand the formula for greatness, and I don't do what
- 31:14Speaker 1: greatness requires to be great at golf. So that's not
- 31:16Speaker 1: that's not where I want to put my time. If
- 31:19Speaker 1: I wanted to be great at golf, I would spend
- 31:21Speaker 1: a lot of time doing the basics. And you know
- 31:23Speaker 1: what the guys who are really great at golf, they
- 31:25Speaker 1: can make fifty six foot putts in a row. Right, Okay,
- 31:29Speaker 1: that's how you'd be great. That it is. It's the
- 31:31Speaker 1: same thing of shoot the shoot the bullet through the
- 31:33Speaker 1: same hole at the three yard line. Do those things,
- 31:36Speaker 1: you'll be great. It's called skills, not you know, vanity training.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And people like to do this stuff like man, I
- 31:45Speaker 1: like AI and all these this AI development and stuff.
- 31:49Speaker 1: But when I see a lot of people work on
- 31:51Speaker 1: it or use it and the way they're working with it,
- 31:53Speaker 1: I go, that's vanity. You're giving yourself the misconception of
- 31:57Speaker 1: how capable you are. Look at how much I can
- 31:59Speaker 1: make my AI do in a short amount of time.
- 32:02Speaker 1: And I would ask you, like, okay, how many businesses,
- 32:05Speaker 1: Like how much money has your AI made for you?
- 32:07Speaker 1: What is the fruit of that? Don't show me like
- 32:10Speaker 1: how cool it is. It's the equivalent of you go
- 32:13Speaker 1: to the trade shows and this guy's showing you this
- 32:15Speaker 1: tool you know that replaces seventy two other tools, but
- 32:18Speaker 1: like it's terrible at all of them, right, yeah, exactly.
- 32:22Speaker 1: No one wants to be great and there's a process
- 32:24Speaker 1: for it.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't want the Uzbekistan army knife.
- 32:27Speaker 1: You want the Swiss army knife. This is a couple
- 32:30Speaker 1: of scriptures for you. Ecclesiastes ten ten. The Bible talks
- 32:33Speaker 1: about skill as well. Ecclesiastes ten ten. If the ax
- 32:37Speaker 1: is dull and it's edge unsharpened, more strength is needed.
- 32:42Speaker 1: But skill will bring success. Amazing, the axe is dull
- 32:47Speaker 1: and it's edge unsharpened, more strength is required. You know
- 32:49Speaker 1: this is literally the Seal teams. Be smarter, be hard right.
- 32:53Speaker 2: It's also Abraham Lincoln.
- 32:54Speaker 1: He shout the X, sharpen the X. But skill will
- 32:56Speaker 1: bring success. Proverbs twenty two, verse twenty nine. Do you
- 33:00Speaker 1: see a man skilled in his work? He will stand
- 33:04Speaker 1: before kings. He will not stand before obscure men. You
- 33:07Speaker 1: know what obscure men are? Who's that guy?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Right? You know where? You really unlocked this for me
- 33:12Speaker 2: because rather than ask you a question, I just wanted
- 33:15Speaker 2: to remind we've told this. I don't even know, maybe
- 33:17Speaker 2: a couple hundred podcasts ago. Mary, you and I were
- 33:19Speaker 2: hanging out at one time and you were talking about
- 33:21Speaker 2: these CIA spoot guys, like the Jason Bourne types, and
- 33:24Speaker 2: you said that you encountered one or two of these
- 33:27Speaker 2: guys and you're in the seal teams and you realize
- 33:29Speaker 2: that the big the difference between you and them was
- 33:31Speaker 2: that they had just gone to so many more schools
- 33:33Speaker 2: than you to be just like a ridiculous operative.
- 33:35Speaker 1: They could do everything right.
- 33:37Speaker 2: But so for most people, like the military is so good.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Not just that like I went to many schools. I
- 33:43Speaker 1: went to more than the average person of my amount
- 33:46Speaker 1: of time the military had. And it's not like I
- 33:49Speaker 1: do have a pretty good retention rate. I would tell
- 33:52Speaker 1: you I have it above average retention rate. I remember
- 33:54Speaker 1: stuff pretty well, but I still had to do a
- 33:56Speaker 1: lot of going back and making sure as I'm learning
- 33:59Speaker 1: new stuff, I'm not getting the old stuff right. And
- 34:01Speaker 1: think about it, it's like, okay, I've learned how to use
- 34:03Speaker 1: all these rocket launchers, i can speak multiple languages, I
- 34:06Speaker 1: know how to picklocks. I understand you know, advanced networking
- 34:10Speaker 1: and cybersecurity. It's like the list gets really long of
- 34:13Speaker 1: all this stuff that you have to know to be
- 34:16Speaker 1: a super operative. But these are guys who's like, this
- 34:19Speaker 1: is my life, this is what I do. And also
- 34:22Speaker 1: stay in great shape and you know, be an excellent shot.
- 34:25Speaker 2: But so you understand what you just said, like theoretically
- 34:29Speaker 2: makes sense, but I think for most people, like for
- 34:32Speaker 2: somebody who hasn't been in the military and never experienced this,
- 34:35Speaker 2: or maybe they didn't experience it at a high level,
- 34:37Speaker 2: the thought of being able to be like, no, no,
- 34:39Speaker 2: you just need to go to the school, because most
- 34:40Speaker 2: of us think of school as like as a teacher
- 34:42Speaker 2: who's maybe not that invested. It takes, you know, twelve
- 34:44Speaker 2: years or whatever, and like I came out with a
- 34:46Speaker 2: bunch of stuff I didn't really need to know whereas
- 34:47Speaker 2: you guys was like, no, you're going to need this.
- 34:49Speaker 2: You're going to need it every day. I think it's
- 34:51Speaker 2: a crazy thought that you could go to because how
- 34:53Speaker 2: long were schools for you? Like how long?
- 34:56Speaker 1: Sometimes there are two weeks, sometimes there are twelve weeks.
- 34:58Speaker 1: It depends on the program.
- 34:59Speaker 2: And so you go from I don't know how to
- 35:00Speaker 2: do this to be doing quote unquote the impossible.
- 35:03Speaker 1: But yeah, whether it like I went through jump school
- 35:08Speaker 1: in eight weeks and like you come out, you know,
- 35:11Speaker 1: and an advanced jumper go through crazy dive school ten
- 35:14Speaker 1: or twelve weeks, I don't remember, it's more than eight.
- 35:17Speaker 1: You come out the other end, like advanced diver. Before
- 35:19Speaker 1: you didn't know how to dive at all and come
- 35:21Speaker 1: out the other end advanced diver. But you do it
- 35:23Speaker 1: all day, every day with professionals.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Right, and so I but like, so, I'm glad you said,
- 35:28Speaker 2: because I think that thought process. Now, look, you may
- 35:30Speaker 2: not have access or money to be able to pay
- 35:32Speaker 2: professionals or the time to go do it for three months,
- 35:34Speaker 2: and so we're not saying like, hey, you have to
- 35:36Speaker 2: go do this, but at least if you can start
- 35:38Speaker 2: to grasp the belief, like we said, belief is what
- 35:42Speaker 2: starts first, and then change comes. If you can actually
- 35:44Speaker 2: grasp the belief that actually, I'm just the right person,
- 35:47Speaker 2: the right training, the right amount of focus away from
- 35:50Speaker 2: acquiring whatever skill I need, dide. I hope that encourages.
- 35:53Speaker 1: It's it's the Tim Ferriss, you know, like you can
- 35:58Speaker 1: you can get the ten thousand hour rule, which is
- 36:00Speaker 1: what it takes to become great. I don't think it
- 36:02Speaker 1: takes but and Tim Ferriss would talk about that, it
- 36:05Speaker 1: doesn't take ten thousand hours if you you follow the
- 36:08Speaker 1: experts process with an expert, right, right, And.
- 36:11Speaker 2: That's how you guys, you guys got it. Well, yeah,
- 36:13Speaker 2: and I just want to instill believe in people because
- 36:14Speaker 2: like that will make you go, huh, I could get
- 36:16Speaker 2: anything that I want. And that's where it starts to
- 36:18Speaker 2: become really fun is whenever you actually believe that last
- 36:21Speaker 2: one g everybody's favorite.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Suffering, Right, So if you can I wouldn't say overcome sin,
- 36:26Speaker 1: but if you can walk with God, yeah, if you
- 36:28Speaker 1: can be godly and sin is not like you are
- 36:31Speaker 1: not chained up by sin, right, you can't. Like the
- 36:34Speaker 1: inability to grow and change is because you're stuck. Like
- 36:37Speaker 1: sin is chains. You can't move forward. Skill is there's
- 36:43Speaker 1: a wall, like you can't jump high enough, right, Like
- 36:45Speaker 1: there's a wall like you must be able to jump
- 36:48Speaker 1: onto a forty eight inch block. Until you can do that,
- 36:51Speaker 1: you can't move forward. That's a skill, right, you can
- 36:54Speaker 1: learn it. You can learn people can tell you, right,
- 36:55Speaker 1: and so like you can try and figure out everything else.
- 36:58Speaker 1: And some people make ramps to overcome their level of skill.
- 37:01Speaker 1: And I appreciate things like that too, but I want
- 37:03Speaker 1: you to see it that way. Sin is a chain.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Skill is a box you gotta jump on. And then
- 37:08Speaker 1: suffering is there are some journeys in life. It's like
- 37:12Speaker 1: this is a hundred mile race. Okay, you can fuel good,
- 37:16Speaker 1: you cannot fuel good. You can train, you can do
- 37:19Speaker 1: whatever you can get out there and hard dog it.
- 37:21Speaker 1: You can you know, train for five years, but it's
- 37:23Speaker 1: one hundred miles one way or the other, right, right,
- 37:25Speaker 1: and you're like, there is no way to run one
- 37:28Speaker 1: hundred miles. That isn't suffering. Did you see this dude
- 37:32Speaker 1: who just ran the bad Water in twenty one hours? No, dude,
- 37:36Speaker 1: forget I forget his name. I should know his name.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I'm disrespecting this individual that's insane ran the bad Water,
- 37:42Speaker 1: and okay, I got a more insane thing for you.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I commented on this on Instagram because I was shocked,
- 37:47Speaker 1: and I like hardly ever comment on stuff on Instagram.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Ran the bad Water one hundred and thirty five miles.
- 37:52Speaker 1: One of the most difficult ultra races where you start
- 37:54Speaker 1: in Death Valley and it's Mount Whitney, right, I'm not
- 37:57Speaker 1: one hundred percent sure in the series believe it's not Winny,
- 38:00Speaker 1: but anyways, start at a start in Death Valley. It's
- 38:04Speaker 1: the hottest ultra as well. Ran it in twenty one hours,
- 38:08Speaker 1: which is an average pace of like eight eight minute
- 38:10Speaker 1: mile or so. It's close to that. Bro. He shared
- 38:14Speaker 1: his uh not his woop, but one of the other
- 38:17Speaker 1: trackers he ran eighty five percent of the race in
- 38:19Speaker 1: zone two. Okay, I mean that is insanity. Insanity.
- 38:27Speaker 2: My zone two pace is like between eleven and raven.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Not only running it, like just running a sub eight
- 38:32Speaker 1: minute mile in zone two is you know, elite athletes impressive.
- 38:36Speaker 1: But then did run the hottest ultra marathon in the world,
- 38:40Speaker 1: you know, sub eight minute mile ultra and zone two
- 38:44Speaker 1: is insanity.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:47Speaker 1: But the reason I brought that up is because I
- 38:50Speaker 1: promise you he was still suffering. Oh yeah, well, like
- 38:53Speaker 1: he's trained his body how to suffer well, yeah, how
- 38:56Speaker 1: to suffer well literally to be able to do that
- 38:58Speaker 1: in zone two. Yeah, but I promise you he was suffering.
- 39:01Speaker 1: But also it tells the great story of if you
- 39:04Speaker 1: will spend lots of like if you'll get comfortable suffering
- 39:07Speaker 1: the moment, the true moment of your testing, it's not
- 39:10Speaker 1: so bad, right, yeah, And the flip side of if
- 39:14Speaker 1: you don't, if you do not suffer in preparation for
- 39:17Speaker 1: your chosen suffering, that suffering is terrible. Yeah. I like,
- 39:21Speaker 1: I just thought about that I was like, dude, this
- 39:23Speaker 1: guy ran the bad water one in zone two. You're
- 39:26Speaker 1: a freak. Good for you, dude, Yeah, good for you.
- 39:29Speaker 2: It's incredible pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Hebrews twelve eleven. No discipline seems pleasant at the time.
- 39:37Speaker 1: You're gonna have to choose some good suffering in your
- 39:40Speaker 1: life to prepare for the chosen suffering for your test.
- 39:44Speaker 1: No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful later on.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Maybe you should have a different time frame orientation. Later on, however,
- 39:54Speaker 1: it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those
- 39:58Speaker 1: who have been trained by it. This is God's process. Okay,
- 40:02Speaker 1: this is a spiritual process, and this is a natural process.
- 40:05Speaker 1: What you choose to put yourself through or when you
- 40:08Speaker 1: choose pain, when you choose discipline, when you choose suffering,
- 40:12Speaker 1: it makes you better. Galatians chapter six, verse nine. Let
- 40:16Speaker 1: us not right whenever you whenever you hear in scripture,
- 40:21Speaker 1: let us know what that means. It means up to
- 40:22Speaker 1: your means. You got to choose this. God's not going
- 40:25Speaker 1: to do this part for you. Let us not become weary.
- 40:29Speaker 1: And that's the part that you got to not do.
- 40:32Speaker 1: It's not like, man, God, this is so hard, make
- 40:34Speaker 1: it easy for me. He's like, son, that's the you part.
- 40:37Speaker 1: That's the you part. I'm with you, but you not
- 40:40Speaker 1: feeling sorry for yourself and being a baby, that's your
- 40:44Speaker 1: Let us not become weary and doing good for at
- 40:47Speaker 1: the proper time. We will reap a harvest if we
- 40:52Speaker 1: do not give up. As our man Hormosi says, love
- 40:56Speaker 1: this one. He needs a sound effect.
- 40:59Speaker 2: You can accel leader, Thanks dude, I didn't have much
- 41:02Speaker 2: to do today.
- 41:04Speaker 1: As Hormosy says, I love this one. Success and failure
- 41:07Speaker 1: are on the same highway. Success is just a later exit.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, so true man, So last one, inn g.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Because really, when you're talking about suffering, it's really the
- 41:16Speaker 2: hard work and you'll and we have such a hackers
- 41:20Speaker 2: society of like, you know, the appropriate level effort? How
- 41:22Speaker 2: do you determine the appropriate level of effort? Because I
- 41:25Speaker 2: think sometimes you think you're giving it all and then
- 41:28Speaker 2: somebody comes along and goes like, dude, you're barely even trying,
- 41:31Speaker 2: and like that's a blessing if you're willing to receive it.
- 41:33Speaker 2: But I mean, how are you supposed to know what
- 41:34Speaker 2: the appropriate level of effort is.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Will scripture has helped us with that. It says, let
- 41:41Speaker 1: us not become weary and doing good for at the
- 41:43Speaker 1: proper time. When's the proper time? Well, if you're doing
- 41:46Speaker 1: the right thing, you'll get there. And so the point
- 41:50Speaker 1: is right you saying when am I going to get there?
- 41:52Speaker 1: You know what that is. It's not saying let us
- 41:55Speaker 1: not become weary and doing good?
- 41:56Speaker 3: Right?
- 41:56Speaker 1: Your weariness is you saying I feel like I've done
- 41:59Speaker 1: it right? Why am I not producing any fruit?
- 42:03Speaker 3: Like?
- 42:03Speaker 1: Literally, if you'll burn this into your soul, let us
- 42:07Speaker 1: not become weary and doing good. It's like I worked
- 42:09Speaker 1: really hard today and I produce no fruit? Right, can't
- 42:11Speaker 1: wait to do it tomorrow. If that's really the way
- 42:14Speaker 1: that you live, you have a date with destiny.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Thank you very much for listening.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Guys, Remember to share, like subscribe. If you think that
