Latest / Off The Shelf With Phil and Dave- A Movie Review Podcast / 1984's Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter
Transcript
- 0:01Hello and welcome to Off the Shelf with Phil and Dave, the
- 0:06movie talk show where each week one of us takes a movie off our
- 0:08shelf, presents it to the other and discusses it at length.
- 0:18This week we've got coming Off of My Shelf. 1984 is Friday the
- 0:2213th part for the final chapter. How was that misleading or what?
- 0:28Directed by Joe Zito and cast. You know, we're not really going
- 0:30to spend too too much time on it.
- 0:32Lawrence Monsoon plays Teddy and Chris Mcglover.
- 0:35Probably the most recognizable faces in all the series, I agree
- 0:38is this one. Yeah, so far, this is definitely
- 0:40a lot of like, I know that guy, I know that guy.
- 0:42That girl's familiar. Not as big as Kevin Bacon,
- 0:44maybe. No, not subsequent, No for.
- 0:47Sure, but all combined, yes, it's an ensemble.
- 0:50That's right. But here we are, David, we're
- 0:51back on the couch. How you doing this week?
- 0:52What's new? What's happening?
- 0:53Your thoughts on the movie? This this is by request.
- 0:55I want to be clear. Yeah, it's off of my shelf by
- 0:58extension. A little bit you were asking.
- 1:01Please answer the questions, explain to me why, What brings
- 1:05us here? 3 was bad, yeah.
- 1:07I was friendly about it. You were out of respect to you,
- 1:10mostly, but it still had me curious about #4 because it's
- 1:16the last one. That's right, it's the final
- 1:18chapter. Final chapter What else could
- 1:19come after? EA Sports, it's in the damn
- 1:22game. I would say if you think about
- 1:24the timeline, comparing it to EA Sports, we're at that point
- 1:28where you are buying it annually.
- 1:30I'll let you know at the end. If it continues.
- 1:33Or are we getting into, I'll wait till it goes on sale or
- 1:36I'll skip a year. So I was interested to watch
- 1:40this movie to see the evolution. You kind of laid down some
- 1:45hints, some thoughts about where the series goes.
- 1:49I wasn't sure how much that would be implicated necessarily
- 1:52in this one. Sure, because there's.
- 1:54Many, many. More, many, many more.
- 1:55Yeah. My initial thoughts of the movie
- 1:57is it deliver, let's say it. That's a tough question, OK?
- 2:01It's the best produced of the four, and that could be a
- 2:04product of just being four years later than the original could
- 2:07be, or a bigger budget. It could be.
- 2:10Probably not a number of maybe not.
- 2:11I don't know how these things work.
- 2:12No, for sure, I've got some comments about that.
- 2:14Wonderful. That's.
- 2:15Good, I like that about you. Yeah, your combinatory
- 2:19conversational kind of situation.
- 2:20Well, you know what are you? Prepared Have you seen the
- 2:23movie? Many, many, many times.
- 2:26This is probably the one I've seen the most.
- 2:28And why now? By request, you're right, this
- 2:32was an audible. I want to be clear it was
- 2:34something else slotted for this particular slot.
- 2:36It didn't take too much convincing, no.
- 2:38Then I brought it up. Let's just do it absolutely your
- 2:40time of year. You were eager and I wanted to
- 2:43capitalize on that kind of. Let's get it over with as soon
- 2:47as we get it done you. Know it's fair.
- 2:49Let's move on to Halloween. Dragged for a number of years
- 2:51with this rate. We'll, we'll get it.
- 2:53Maybe we'll do a spring. Special too, 5-6 and seven in
- 2:56there, so I was happy to take it off the shelf, certainly.
- 2:59Of course you were. Was this your first one that you
- 3:00ever saw? I've tried to think about that.
- 3:03I don't know if you revealed that or.
- 3:05I had mentioned that 3 was my favorite for a while.
- 3:08You got a lot of. So I'm trying to.
- 3:09Think black for that, by the way.
- 3:10Yeah. The boards.
- 3:13This is the one I have the most memories of.
- 3:15When I think of Friday the 13th as a concept, as a franchise,
- 3:20this is the one I think of. This represents it.
- 3:22This represents it. This has to me the Great Kills
- 3:26characters that are a little bit more off the page than previous
- 3:29titles previous episodes. Installments.
- 3:33Installments and more familiar faces.
- 3:36I think it's a good. Point it.
- 3:37It really does. I felt like right away, this
- 3:39movie feels like a bigger movie than any of the ones prior.
- 3:43Bigger playgrounds, also bigger in scope.
- 3:45We got helicopters. There's just these elements
- 3:46right away where I'm thinking like this is the Friday the 13th
- 3:50movie that I it's my go to. If you, if you can call it that.
- 3:53We can. I'm I'm going to call it that.
- 3:55Please, I'm not going to stop you.
- 3:57So to get a chance to take it off the shelf and not have to
- 3:59wait a year or whatever to do that, I was really eager.
- 4:02Now had this been another part and you had said I really want
- 4:06to do that, I might have put a little bit more pump the.
- 4:08Brakes. OK, good to know.
- 4:10And for a nice change of pace, we don't have to watch the last
- 4:1610 minutes. That's right, yes, of the
- 4:17previous. What we do have to do though is
- 4:21get a a well done recap of the first 3 movies courtesy of Paul
- 4:29#1. Yes, that's right.
- 4:30What are your thoughts on this? We don't.
- 4:32One of the jokes in the last couple of movies have been this
- 4:35four or five minute preamble. Yeah, to get us back to square
- 4:39one with it. And this one I felt handled it.
- 4:43I thought incredibly. I was going to use the term
- 4:46adequately. OK there.
- 4:48We go because I wasn't really paying attention and it was a
- 4:51Fast forward situation the second time around.
- 4:53I think that's fair. I think we the second time.
- 4:56Around second, yeah, I can allow it, maybe for the second time, I
- 5:00suppose. To me, this is such a beautiful
- 5:02encapsulation of the best parts of 1-2 and three to me.
- 5:06Yeah. And you can you can get that
- 5:07into a very strange period of time.
- 5:09Totally. You're doing basically like best
- 5:11kills and you get story woven some of that Jason back story
- 5:15and you get sort of figure out why we're here and so forth.
- 5:17I don't think it's like you don't need to necessarily start
- 5:20your Friday journey on this one. But you could you could skip the
- 5:22first 3. For story purposes, yes.
- 5:24But you want to see Kevin Bacon? You want to see Kevin Bacon, you
- 5:26want to see Sandra, you want to see certainly Tracy Savage and.
- 5:30I wonder what the experience would be like watching the 4th
- 5:34one first. No, I'm going back and like.
- 5:36Oh, I want to go back and see what happened in those clips and
- 5:38see the full movie. Totally.
- 5:40I think that would be a different experience.
- 5:42Maybe better, maybe not, but different.
- 5:45I mean, the trailers for these movies do their entirety is like
- 5:48doing the body count. I think I've shown you before,
- 5:50right? Like which is a good movie, by
- 5:51the way, one body count 3 like just counting them up and then
- 5:54Part 2, the body count continues and then part three, I think
- 5:57even still continues the the numbers like 27.
- 6:00Okay, like, come on. I think this one deviates from
- 6:02that, but if your purposes are just the kills and the general
- 6:06idea of who Jason is, this one does a great job of synthesizing
- 6:09all of that into a 4 minute intro.
- 6:11And it's a nice chance for me to revisit some great kills from
- 6:13the past, particularly the wheelchair, you know, kind of
- 6:16like ending on that like it was. Incredible.
- 6:18That apart, I made sure I swatched a second time.
- 6:21It's so good. Showcase.
- 6:22It's absolutely showcase. Yeah.
- 6:23Show we Kimberly Beck, Peter Barton.
- 6:28They get the lead titles. Yeah.
- 6:30Do they mean anything to you breast wise?
- 6:33Kimberly Beck means nothing to me.
- 6:35I don't know anything about. Her Trish Trish Trish Jarvis.
- 6:38Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the other Barton, if I'm not
- 6:40mistaken, is. Paul.
- 6:42That's not Paul. Who's that?
- 6:45Oh, that's right. Paul's the harpoon guy.
- 6:46Yeah. Doug, I believe.
- 6:48Doug, you think that guy's a Doug?
- 6:49I mean you had issues. It's Scott Grainger is who it
- 6:51is. Yeah.
- 6:52Yeah. Scott Grainger.
- 6:54Of General. I think it's General Hospital.
- 6:58Some soap. Yeah, soap opera for sure, but
- 7:00very. Familiar, I know that.
- 7:01Guy he did the show I think for maybe even a decade if not.
- 7:04At least when you get on a soap, it seems like you're.
- 7:07Just there again, that's Victor. I love that man.
- 7:10Nonetheless, we're not expected. No one's holding us accountable
- 7:13to get all the real names or even the fake names right.
- 7:17It's as long as we can reference them properly.
- 7:19That's right. And we can.
- 7:20We know the guy that we're talking about, even if we don't
- 7:22know anything else about him. We can and we will, but I don't
- 7:25want to get any further in the movie buddy until until it's
- 7:29clear to what this film is about.
- 7:33All right, here it comes. It's courtesy of Old Faithful.
- 7:35Yeah, we have a deal, 10 year contract.
- 7:38Absolutely. After being announced dead and
- 7:40taken to a morgue, Jason Voorhees spontaneously revives
- 7:44escapes from the hospital and stalks a group of friends
- 7:47renting a house in the countryside near Crystal Lake.
- 7:51Gives too much away. Yeah.
- 7:53That's the whole movie right there.
- 7:54That's pretty much it. And also, you know, revives.
- 7:58I mean, yeah, you're just throwing it away.
- 8:00Was it spontaneous? I think he planned it.
- 8:01I think we'll get up now. I think I've rested.
- 8:04I've recouped. I'm feeling better about things.
- 8:06Totally. It's time for me to go back to
- 8:08work. And I like his work ethic.
- 8:10It's commitment if nothing else. He has good work ethic.
- 8:13Yeah. We got someone riding him every
- 8:14morning, making sure he's on task.
- 8:17And this basically takes place after the aftermath of the last,
- 8:22yeah. Immediately after, right after,
- 8:25we're at the scene, basically, basically gathering the dead
- 8:28bodies. Yeah, You're at Higgins Haven
- 8:30that night. You've got the barn, you've got
- 8:32Jason at the bottom of it with the axe.
- 8:34That's how we left him. That's it.
- 8:36So it begs a few questions and one of the things that I like
- 8:39about this movie series. More than Halloween on some
- 8:43level, and less than Halloween on others, of course, But
- 8:46specifically that Halloween contorts itself over the years
- 8:51as you remember. That's a nice way of putting it
- 8:53to. Explain what's happening.
- 8:56It's Laurie's brother. It's a connection through the
- 9:00Druid gods of something. There's all these different
- 9:03threads to try and make sense as to who Michael is and why he is
- 9:07and whatever. And you and I talked in Part 2
- 9:10of Friday the 13th about how just Jason is.
- 9:12All of a sudden, he's a grown man walking around the city and
- 9:15he's going to kill Alice and he's going to walk away with a
- 9:17bag on his head. How does that happen?
- 9:19It doesn't, it doesn't, right? Like there's no real explanation
- 9:22for it. There's no real sense to why he
- 9:24is and what he does and so forth.
- 9:26We moved on. Luckily we're.
- 9:27Able to move forward. And what's beauty about that is
- 9:29that this movie starts and the movie doesn't spend any time
- 9:33wanting to explain the situation that we're in.
- 9:36And I like that. I think it's probably makes for
- 9:38a more simplistic read, but a better way just to watch the
- 9:41movie and forget about it. Because if you ask those
- 9:43questions, you're not going to come up with.
- 9:45A good. And I, I'm biting my tongue and
- 9:47it's like I don't ask the question to myself or to
- 9:50anybody. Are we entering a supernatural
- 9:53era of this character? Not yet.
- 9:56Not yet. Because.
- 9:58Well, because at some point there is like this, like, how
- 10:00does this keep happening? Yeah.
- 10:00Well, begs the question. That's right.
- 10:02The title is final chapter. Just be clear about that.
- 10:05But yeah, it's that you have to be willing to accept the rules
- 10:10of the game. Yeah.
- 10:11Because ultimately, if you really think about it, at this
- 10:13point in the lineage, it's all been one day.
- 10:18Two LED directly into three, which leads directly into four.
- 10:24It's still Friday the 13th, but not really because it's been
- 10:31Daylight Part 2 and it's. Saturday the 14th, which is a
- 10:34movie that. Will not come off the show.
- 10:36Richard Benjamin is a great movie I love.
- 10:38I'm sure it is Jeffrey Tame parody.
- 10:40Yeah. OK, yeah, none of this movie in
- 10:42particular. But just like, horror vampires,
- 10:44it's silly. It's really silly.
- 10:46Anyway, so it's just like, if you ask many questions, you're
- 10:48like, none of this makes any sense, but we don't care, and
- 10:50the movie doesn't care, so just roll with it.
- 10:52We're at the barn. They pick Jason up, they put him
- 10:54on an ambulance. And right away, this movie's
- 10:57bigger. Like I was saying, you've got in
- 11:00scope, you've got a helicopter, there's like more extras.
- 11:02There's lots happening on the screen.
- 11:03This feels like a real movie. Yes.
- 11:05And what's funny to me about that?
- 11:06Totally more polished. What's funny to me about that
- 11:08when I thought about it was Steven Minor is the guy that
- 11:11directed parts two and three, and he's the one that went on to
- 11:14not like a huge career, but a pretty significant career.
- 11:17He did the things. And yet Joseph Zito, who
- 11:20directed this, didn't really. And I'm like, this is a far
- 11:23better made movie than any of the previous.
- 11:26Ones yeah, I noticed that didn't see much of A.
- 11:29No, a couple of action movies like just nothing really too big
- 11:32and it's fine. I mean, whatever you.
- 11:34Can do whatever you. Want but this movie is a cut
- 11:36above the previous ones on almost every level and I think
- 11:39that's why I gravitate towards. It maybe the reason I don't mind
- 11:48watching these movies is because I know they take place in the
- 11:5180s and they're low budget and that lends to some faces to say
- 11:56that I recognize that tend to show up.
- 12:01I get a double whammy. Oh my gosh.
- 12:04Same scene on the camera are two Seinfeld characters interacting
- 12:11with each other. Wow.
- 12:14Happy birthday to me. Yeah, that's a big win.
- 12:17That's a big dub. We have the ambulance driver.
- 12:20Shall remain nameless. Well.
- 12:23He's the ambulance driver. The exact what he was credited
- 12:25for and we have. Axel.
- 12:27OK, we know his name. He's the morgue mortician.
- 12:31Enzo Mangenaro, Jerry's Barber. Enzo and he can't go see him
- 12:36again. No, that's the driver.
- 12:39Yeah, and Axel is the rabbi. Terrible Rabbi.
- 12:43OK. Nonetheless, definitely a
- 12:45different character in this Axel's demeanor is.
- 12:50Not rabbinical at all. No, if it's one thing, it's not.
- 12:52It's rabbinical. He's a little horn dog.
- 12:54Every one of these movies needs a horn dog, if not many.
- 12:57Yeah, I suppose so. And we have him here where?
- 13:01And you know, I'm going to tell you a secret right now.
- 13:03Maybe not a secret, but I'm going to tell you a fact here,
- 13:05please. I was doing a little dating
- 13:09random hookup, let's say. OK, I not believing it so far.
- 13:13But and she came by the apartment when I was living in
- 13:16Vancouver and we picked the movie off the shelf.
- 13:20Happened to be 7 OK and we made out.
- 13:23As you do. As you do, fooled around all the
- 13:25things on the couch. What base are we talking?
- 13:28We are all the way. OK, OK.
- 13:30But the idea that something could not be any less
- 13:34attractive, sexy. Yeah, happy.
- 13:37Choice. Yeah.
- 13:37You want to watch Color of Night?
- 13:39Exactly. Something blue New E perhaps?
- 13:44Emmanuel Five. Yeah, that's right.
- 13:45Any of these things. Yeah.
- 13:46Yeah. So to me, it's a situation where
- 13:48I'm looking at this and I'm thinking they're in the morgue.
- 13:52They got Jason 2 feet away from them.
- 13:55Yeah, I probably still. Would Jesus?
- 13:59You probably would. Is sicky.
- 14:03Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:04The question is, would you be watching a exercise show?
- 14:07I've never really, because I thought that was off to that.
- 14:10That was, like, his thing that would get him riled up.
- 14:13Yeah, he obviously does. He also makes some remark
- 14:15earlier about how the corpse is still cute.
- 14:19Yeah, he's a weirdo. Yeah.
- 14:20He's eating on top of him. Yeah, puts a doughnut on top of
- 14:23him. Know your surroundings man have
- 14:25a sense of awareness, so he certainly deserves to get what
- 14:29he's about. He does have my favorite line in
- 14:31the whole movie. Oh, when he's cursing and all
- 14:34that Christmas. As you know, I'm a Christmas
- 14:37guy, but when Jason's hand falls on him as they're going to town
- 14:40near the exact quote is Jesus Christmas.
- 14:44Holy Jesus God damn it. Holy Jesus jumping Christmas
- 14:48shit. Is a little much.
- 14:50It's a lot, a little much, but it just made me laugh because it
- 14:53is ridiculous. Like it is silly do.
- 14:55You think it was scripted? Every.
- 14:57Every line beat, every moment. How many takes?
- 15:01Axel, that guy's a pro. Oh yeah, have you seen his rabbi
- 15:04at work? Anyways, I don't expect a lot
- 15:08out of these movies, but to sit there and choose that room fair
- 15:12out of a giant hospital to fool. Around.
- 15:14You fool around the medicine room, right?
- 15:16You fool around in the records room.
- 15:17Now, if you didn't have the knowledge of who you're dealing
- 15:20with, fair, which could have happened, but they chose to put
- 15:23in the movie that he knew. That's right, he kind of calls
- 15:25him out, right? That's you, buddy.
- 15:27That's we're talking about, yeah, comes right up on the TV.
- 15:30I don't know. What is a really cool moment in
- 15:32all of this kind of nonsense is when they're putting him in the
- 15:36icebox. Yeah.
- 15:37And finally. Exactly.
- 15:38Yeah, leave me out for a while. But watching the breath kind of
- 15:41come up in the in the shadows of that box, I'm like, again,
- 15:44that's a real film maker. Yeah, that's a that's a subtle
- 15:47shot that you would see in a real movie.
- 15:49And it's like a blink and you miss it because.
- 15:51I did miss it, actually. There you go.
- 15:52I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, that happened.
- 15:54Yeah. Maybe they just didn't check.
- 15:56Yeah, that was how I reasoned it.
- 15:58OK. I was like, they just didn't
- 15:59check good enough. Yeah.
- 16:01And he's got a pulse, kind of like Silence of the Lambs.
- 16:03Oh, that's right. That's right.
- 16:04He's good at get that heart rate.
- 16:06Keeps it real low, keeps it nice and nice.
- 16:07Real nice and tight. Solid kills.
- 16:10Yeah. What are your thoughts here?
- 16:11This is Axel's farewell moment. I just told you.
- 16:14Solid. OK.
- 16:15Pretty good, though I'm already recognizing and understanding
- 16:17that this will be a better movie from a production standpoint.
- 16:21Sure, as long as the story holds.
- 16:24As long as it doesn't get too silly.
- 16:25I think ultimately this will be probably a better film.
- 16:29And I liked, you know, Bonesaw. Bonesaw.
- 16:31Yeah, Yeah. What I hope that you would like
- 16:33about it is that we'd already talked in the previous episodes
- 16:36about banality, right? How many times can you take a
- 16:39spear? Yeah, through the chest or a
- 16:41knife in the back or whatever. It turns out a lot.
- 16:44But some variety is what we kind of alluded to the last one where
- 16:47it was like, you know? Keeps it going.
- 16:49How many of these can keep doing the same type of thing?
- 16:52And and to your point, you can keep doing the same type of
- 16:56thing, provided that those things get better or more
- 16:58interesting. And variations.
- 17:00You know, beards. Exactly.
- 17:02So if you're going to make the next one, make it bloodier, gory
- 17:05or have better characters, have better still making this and
- 17:08that. So it seems to be on pace for
- 17:11that. Spare no expense.
- 17:13Exactly. But a great effect, I thought,
- 17:15on the ripping the head out. And I, I like the way that he
- 17:17kills the girl, the nurse. Yeah.
- 17:19And we get a sense like this guy has been rotting.
- 17:22I don't think he has a very good diet.
- 17:24Not a good diet. Scurvy, perhaps?
- 17:26No pedicures, no manicures. No one will have them.
- 17:28No one touches them. What can you say?
- 17:30Yeah, one thing I know you don't do is jog.
- 17:33No, dear God. That's just not your thing.
- 17:36We get to the main family. Yes, the Jarvi.
- 17:40Many jarvi. Yep, Yep.
- 17:43Mother daughter going for a jog, like I said.
- 17:45And then we get Tom getting a high score of 98,000 on Zackson.
- 17:51That equates to 35 kills, I believe.
- 17:53OK, just so you know, I wrote that down.
- 17:55Appreciate it. Yeah.
- 17:55Corey Feldman. Yeah, wearing a mask.
- 17:57Yeah, that's his thing. That's his thing.
- 17:59Good for him. Like a little Tom Savini.
- 18:00Yeah, exactly. That's exactly what I wrote
- 18:02down, Little Tom Savini. Watching this movie, being a
- 18:06young kid myself, you want to see yourself on screen, whether
- 18:09that's you're a member of a minority, whatever the case, you
- 18:14know? I get the guy from.
- 18:15Redford redhead. Yeah.
- 18:18So watching this movie as a kid, watching a kid be in this movie
- 18:22and be fascinated by makeup effects and special effects.
- 18:26All of that. Stuff that was felt like me and
- 18:28so Phil Feldman. A couple of years later, I was
- 18:31touring the Joe Blasco Makeup School in Orlando.
- 18:34Like, I want to be a makeup artist.
- 18:35What? Happened.
- 18:37I've no artistic talent in that regard, so my imagination isn't
- 18:40clear. Like one of the tests that they
- 18:42told me I did was like, design a monster.
- 18:45You can do that and you have to sketch it and then you have to
- 18:47mold it and then you have to paint it and then you have to
- 18:50write all of these other artistic elements.
- 18:51And I looked at me like, I can't do that.
- 18:53It kind of ran away and wasn't going to go to school in Orlando
- 18:56and listen that, but I would have loved to do that.
- 18:58At the time, I dated a monster. Terrible person, terrible
- 19:01person. What I was thinking while you
- 19:04were off in Orlando. Yeah.
- 19:06Is the fact that a kid has been introduced.
- 19:09That's right, yeah. We're not just dealing with
- 19:12teenage campers. Yeah, it's a family.
- 19:15I'm thinking about EA Sports like I always do.
- 19:17Of course. What is the update?
- 19:19We've killed a guy in a wheelchair.
- 19:21Yep. We've killed a pregnant woman.
- 19:24That's. True, yeah.
- 19:25Is Feldman gonna get it? Is one of my thoughts.
- 19:28You would love that, Yeah. And there is opportunity for it
- 19:31and obviously chooses not to do that.
- 19:33But just the family as a whole, the Jar of Eye brings in a
- 19:37different type of elements. Yeah, now you tease the the
- 19:41series will change, and I think this is an example of that.
- 19:45They're kind of broadening. You are upgrading.
- 19:48Let's. Say, you can't always just do
- 19:49the camper here. There's 12 new teenagers.
- 19:51Let's kill them out. And how, how much can you ignore
- 19:54the news? Like let's go to Crystal, like,
- 19:55oh, it's fine. 80 people have died there.
- 19:58So I'm curious to see who's going to die out of that family,
- 20:01to be honest with you, if anybody.
- 20:03And. Stay at the end.
- 20:05Now, you said last time that you know who the lead is.
- 20:07You kind of have an idea who's going to live, who's not going
- 20:10to, who's not going to live the final show boobs, who's not
- 20:12going to show boobs. Yes.
- 20:12You had a sixth sense for that. I still do.
- 20:15Let's address that as we go. I don't want to drive too much
- 20:18right now, but whenever you're ready, whenever, as we go,
- 20:20basically. So when you're seeing now the
- 20:22introduction of the Jarvi are your thoughts These guys are
- 20:27going to make it to the end. You're thinking that they're
- 20:29going to live, going to die and boobs, you think.
- 20:32Of Miss Freeman. Did you think that she was going
- 20:34to go? I wasn't sure.
- 20:36I wasn't sure about the mom. Because she's a mom, right?
- 20:38There's that feeling of like. You can kill your mom and I was
- 20:40pretty confident Tommy was going to survive fair.
- 20:44So I'm thinking maybe this family will live and.
- 20:48Other people will die and I think at this point Corey
- 20:50Feldman is a name. I'm not positive because I don't
- 20:52know when Gremlins came out. It came out in 84, but I'm not
- 20:55sure if it came out before. After this movie, the next year
- 20:58he's doing Goonies. I don't know if he's a name.
- 21:00Based on history, the horror movies are first and that gives
- 21:03you a little bit of recognition and then you move on to, well,
- 21:07look at Jimmy Lee Curtis. You Flourish Freaky or Friday.
- 21:09That's true. Pretty good movie.
- 21:11Check it out. So yeah, we've met the family
- 21:13and now we get to meet the teenagers.
- 21:16Yes, we get Crispin. Crispin Glover.
- 21:19Yes, in the back seat with a guy.
- 21:22Named Teddy Lawrence Monsoon. Absolutely.
- 21:24Good for you. Last American Virgin.
- 21:26Good for you. It's good.
- 21:27In that movie it didn't seem anything else. 6 people in this
- 21:30car. Yep, sounds good.
- 21:32Four boys, 2 girls. Sure.
- 21:36Doesn't that up does it? You don't like that?
- 21:38Well, it gets fixed. It gets fixed.
- 21:41Stick around. OK, stick around.
- 21:43Have you ever have someone not take your calls?
- 21:46I'm sure often, I thought. So the whole calling thing is
- 21:48such a weird concept. Doesn't exist anymore.
- 21:50Yeah, but left. Me on red what?
- 21:54We have an interesting conversation in between them.
- 21:56I think it's worth exploring a little.
- 21:57Bit I love it. Yeah.
- 21:58Do you love it? I love it.
- 22:00I think it feels natural, feels real.
- 22:02Now I've heard the term starfish.
- 22:04Yes, yes, it's usually referring to a woman just laying there I
- 22:10don't want. To get into details here, let's
- 22:11keep APG here in this Friday the 13th commentary.
- 22:15Exactly. But we have Teddy on his little
- 22:17fake computer. Turns out Crispin's a dead.
- 22:20Fuck, he's a dead fuck. Yeah, that's that's hurtful.
- 22:23Absolutely. I mean, so the computer doesn't
- 22:26lie. The computer said it.
- 22:28Computer did 84 is a year before Back to the Future.
- 22:33Yes, you have a guy who played Marty Mcfly's father a year
- 22:37later. Yes, yes, greasy hair.
- 22:40I don't know. I felt like this guy aged 10
- 22:42years. Well, they've made him up for
- 22:43the later parts, but he basically looks exactly the same
- 22:46during the 50s when he's playing Marty's age.
- 22:49I still think he looks a little older there.
- 22:50Yeah. I mean, it's just a slick.
- 22:52Hair. Yeah, could be.
- 22:53Yeah, he's very a puffy hair here.
- 22:55Yeah, so very puffy. The kids love that.
- 22:57Oh my God. Front loaded, it's the Tullum.
- 22:59Yeah, luckily my nephews aren't full blown, but they're only a
- 23:03step or two. Away.
- 23:04It's obnoxious. It convinces it.
- 23:05Mullum, Mullum. I reminded them of the whole man
- 23:08bun year, if you recall. How could I forget?
- 23:11I bullied someone to get rid of it.
- 23:12I feel bad about that. Yeah.
- 23:13He's threatened to fire them. You're managing the storm?
- 23:15No. No Co worker.
- 23:16No, just a Co worker. Yeah.
- 23:18Yeah. Kishwar.
- 23:19Still wearing it. Still got a man bun.
- 23:20Stuck with it. We're bastard.
- 23:21He's gonna ride it out. He's gonna.
- 23:23Wait for it to come back again. Yeah, full circle, full circle.
- 23:26But we have a, it's kind of like an Airbnb, really.
- 23:28Back in the day, they're renting a home or cottage that someone
- 23:32owns absolutely across the street from the Jarvi.
- 23:35Absolutely. Yep, now they're on route and
- 23:38they had to stop for directions. Oh yes, of course to.
- 23:41Get to this air being. Yeah, I'm just jumping ahead
- 23:43here, buddy. Well, it's.
- 23:44Excitingly moment that what is happening right now I really.
- 23:47Just try to move past. It but it warrants conversation
- 23:49because I think it's like one of the rare moments in this movie
- 23:51where I'm this is stupid. I think it warrants an
- 23:53explanation. Yeah, there is none.
- 23:55OK. I don't think they're not.
- 23:57The idea that tombstone with Pamela Voorhees, his name on it,
- 24:02would be so prominently placed on the side of the road and so
- 24:06pristine looking. That's not even legal.
- 24:08There's no justification for that.
- 24:10She died theoretically on the beach.
- 24:13This is not the beach. If you're in a barrier of where
- 24:16she was murdered, then she would be there.
- 24:18If you're doing it at a cemetery, do it at a proper
- 24:20cemetery on some side of the road.
- 24:21Side of the road. For a movie that is obviously
- 24:23silly and can't be taken seriously, that was like, oh,
- 24:26that's stupid. I just want to know what purpose
- 24:28does it serve? It's just acknowledging Pamela
- 24:30Voorhees exists. We just saw a whole recap of
- 24:32that. 100% and the kids don't seem to even notice it, So what
- 24:36is the point? What's that you know?
- 24:38Who is this? What is that?
- 24:39When is that? I no idea.
- 24:41Think that really should be cut out for any version that's
- 24:45playing on TV. Wow.
- 24:46But they still do that. They always knock it down for
- 24:49time. Yeah, sure, that would expand
- 24:50it. Sometimes they cut out the bad
- 24:52parts and they add the other stuff, so you get different cuts
- 24:54for movies basically. Wonderful.
- 24:55You can just watch it all over again on television.
- 24:58Yeah, yeah. I don't have cable, so we can't
- 25:00do that, but what we can do is pick up a hitchhiker if we want.
- 25:05Absolutely. They chose not to.
- 25:09She's heading to Canada. Yeah, we'd love to have her.
- 25:13Yeah, absolutely. Come on in and.
- 25:15She conveniently has on the other side of her sign F you.
- 25:18Yeah, just in case they don't pick her up, she's ready.
- 25:21Yep, covers both the bases. It really does.
- 25:23I respect that, actually. Absolutely.
- 25:24And she's probably been rejected a little bit because Teddy's not
- 25:27very nice to her. He's not, and that's Teddy being
- 25:30Teddy. Let's be honest.
- 25:31More fat jokes. Yeah, I know you're a little
- 25:33sensitive to that because you were once a bigger lad.
- 25:35Yeah, and Teddy is obviously insulting Jimmy, so he's just.
- 25:40Yeah, he has no no care, no. Care in the world.
- 25:43No care in the world. That's an asshole in the last
- 25:44American version too. Oh was he typecasting?
- 25:48But the point is where would she fit because this is a six
- 25:51seater. Yeah, yeah, no.
- 25:52I guess you could squeeze her in.
- 25:54It's too bad for her. Not going to make it.
- 25:55Yeah, we get a kill earlier than I would have expected.
- 25:59Yeah, it's a one off where she's not really part of.
- 26:03That's how you know she's going to.
- 26:04Well, yeah, that's basically right.
- 26:06Why else are you in the movie? Yeah, good kill, Yeah, I wonder.
- 26:10If you'd like that, I feel like it's good.
- 26:11And the banana. That's the best part.
- 26:13It's so good. That's the best part.
- 26:14I'm in it for the banana. Yeah.
- 26:15And I I make a lot of banana bread.
- 26:17Sure. So it was very relatable.
- 26:20I connected. I connected, buddy.
- 26:23I'm in it. Yeah.
- 26:23Brothers and bananas. I'm, I'm, I'm in it despite the
- 26:27whole stuff at the hospital and the vooris.
- 26:29Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you're in.
- 26:30It, the grave, whatever. Tombstone Tombstone, Take your
- 26:34break. Great movie by the way.
- 26:35Yeah, you tell them I'm coming. But what's more tastier than a
- 26:39banana Tommy sandwich? A Tommy sandwich?
- 26:43Yeah. Yeah, we established that these
- 26:45are going to be neighbors. Yeah, the introductions have
- 26:47been made. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:48And Gordon? Absolutely.
- 26:51Hey, Gordon, How you doing, Gordon?
- 26:52You're a dog guy. Yeah, but yeah, a Tommy
- 26:55sandwich. Well, it was supposed to be
- 26:57pizza, and then we downgraded to leftover.
- 26:59Yeah, involving tuna. It's very responsible.
- 27:02And they compromise for a Tommy sandwich, Yeah.
- 27:04Everybody wins. One of the things I like that
- 27:06this introduces is more space to run and hide. 2 cabins or two
- 27:12houses. There's three floors.
- 27:15There's a wider space around. Yeah, I'm kind of anticipating.
- 27:17OK, Levels. Yeah, levels.
- 27:19This is going to be a thing. Or it has more opportunities for
- 27:22suspense and fear and stuff. More than just a barn.
- 27:25Yeah, which is fine. And you know, Higgins Haven had
- 27:28some space, but this feels just somehow different.
- 27:31They utilize broader, they utilize the space and that's
- 27:33important. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
- 27:35You know someone that whose space gets utilized pretty
- 27:38often, I would say is Sam. Sam, is that where you're going
- 27:43with that? Absolutely.
- 27:45She has a reputation, and she's had since grade six.
- 27:47Yeah, but she only sleeps with Paul.
- 27:50That's what she says. And she keeps them there because
- 27:53he likes it there. That's right.
- 27:55She's hot. She's OK.
- 27:56And her breasts will be revealed.
- 27:58Yeah, you kind of get that impression right away if you're
- 27:59going to introduce somebody as the.
- 28:01Yeah. As the.
- 28:03What Philip say? Promiscuous.
- 28:04Yeah, there it is. And meanwhile, we have Sarah,
- 28:08the opposite. More or less the opposite.
- 28:10Whoever is virgin girl. Yeah.
- 28:12Is that her reputation? Well, that's great.
- 28:13Six. It's helps me to keep track and
- 28:15they're talking of all kinds of opportunities and Sarah just
- 28:19doesn't get it. Sam's trying to lay it out to
- 28:21her. They have explained the sleeping
- 28:23arrangements, luckily their bunk beds.
- 28:25Yes, thank goodness. That is not a deal breaker.
- 28:28Yeah. Are you a top bunk guy or a
- 28:32bottom bunk guy? And don't read anything into
- 28:35that please. You know, I slept on the top
- 28:37bunk for a while in my youth and I fell off and I dislocated my
- 28:41shoulder. So I more of a bottom bunk guy.
- 28:46That's a good enough reason. Yeah, I think so.
- 28:48And it actually seems there might be a possibility that
- 28:51Tommy will see those. Breasts.
- 28:54That's true. That's right.
- 28:55Yeah. And this is a great scene.
- 28:57Again, when you're talking about Bring Back Memories.
- 28:59Yeah, I think so. I mean, not actively, right.
- 29:01But again, it's that representation thing.
- 29:03It's like seeing a kid. That's that's exactly what I
- 29:05would do at whatever age. Tommy is 10.
- 29:08I mean, if it's right in. Front of you, yeah, you're not
- 29:10going to look away and you're going to be excited because it's
- 29:12going to be naughty and kind of cool and curious and all of
- 29:16those things. There's this like infantilizing
- 29:19of Tommy to the point where you watch that arc, a great arc,
- 29:23you're sort of seeing this is just a kid that's being so
- 29:25traumatized by what's happening. And there's a a consequence to
- 29:29what's happening in the movie that up until now have not been
- 29:32really investigated. So that by the time we get to
- 29:34the end of the movie, I think it hits a little harder because of
- 29:36it. Well, you read a lot into that
- 29:38peeping moment. Absolutely.
- 29:40Wow. All I thought about was just
- 29:42give me boobs. No Crispin.
- 29:44Crispin Glover was a peeping Tom in Back of the Future.
- 29:47That is true. That's all I got out of that
- 29:49scene. But you, well, you.
- 29:51Dived. That's true.
- 29:52One of the things that I think that that Crispin learns over
- 29:56the course of this movie and back to the Back to the Future
- 29:59is it's really good advice that Teddy gives him at one point
- 30:03where he talks about how he shouldn't call her back because
- 30:07the first rule of love is never get rejected by the same girl
- 30:11twice. Always someone new.
- 30:13I mean, yeah, if you're gonna. Yeah.
- 30:14So once Lorraine says no, yeah, he should have moved on.
- 30:18That's true. And Marty would not exist.
- 30:20Wouldn't allow it to happen. Yeah, he kept pushing and
- 30:22pushing and pushing. But Teddy's advice, I think is
- 30:25the right one. Yeah, and Lorraine would end up
- 30:26with the biff. Yeah, and the world would have
- 30:28been a much better place, I think we established.
- 30:30Yeah, I think Biff's kid would look like Jason Voorhees.
- 30:34Not a very good looking guy. We need to even the playing
- 30:42field sexually. I mean days, you know, it's the
- 30:4680s. You can have four guys.
- 30:49I'm not saying you can't not there's anything wrong with
- 30:51that, of course, but we will introduce twins.
- 30:54Oh, certainly. Yes.
- 30:55Yes, yes, yes, yes. Just a gift.
- 30:57I think that's what this movie needs.
- 30:58Yeah. Now Sarah is threatened by this
- 31:00because every guy in this group is smitten by these Australian
- 31:05twins on bikes. I wasn't.
- 31:06Yeah, you're you got a weird taste.
- 31:08Listen to Episode 3 if you want to investigate.
- 31:11I think I have good reason to be Team Vera.
- 31:14I think I have a lot of people. Backing me on that one.
- 31:17Other people have spoken. A lot of blondes in this one,
- 31:18though. Sam is the only like, brunettes.
- 31:21Yeah, so. She is threatened by this, she's
- 31:23frustrated. She's just going to go.
- 31:25Well, she's got to go get the car.
- 31:26Yeah, she gets the sense that it's a long way to get there.
- 31:29She's just being smart. Yeah, I respect that.
- 31:31I just feel like there's no scene.
- 31:32There's no reason for it. Well, there is.
- 31:34We need some scares. Come on man, it's a horror.
- 31:37Movie. Yeah.
- 31:38It just strikes me as like you're saying no to company.
- 31:42You know, you've got what's his name rated Scott Granger.
- 31:45Granger, Granger ready to help you out.
- 31:47And yet you're Yeah, like, no, no, no, I'm.
- 31:49Fine, and he's a nice guy. He comes across as a genuine
- 31:52kid. Sweet guy, but who?
- 31:55Who really knows? Yeah, it's sad news, but anyway.
- 31:57But it isn't sad. However we finally get our
- 31:59skinny dipping scenes. You.
- 32:01Wanted it desperately. They tease it in three.
- 32:03You want to live vicariously through it?
- 32:05Absolutely. You and Shelly.
- 32:07Now, at this point, I think Shelly would be thin enough by
- 32:12now. Oh.
- 32:12OK, over time, over 2 years later.
- 32:15I think he's lost a little. Weight.
- 32:17OK. Well, certainly he's rotted and
- 32:19decomposed, you're saying? Yes, that's what I'm saying.
- 32:21Yeah, OK. You get it now.
- 32:22Yeah, yeah. At first I was like, well, I
- 32:24don't know, maybe he did. I tried to do the math.
- 32:26No, no biology, buddy. OK, I see what you're saying.
- 32:28But yeah, we get some. Well, we get a breast.
- 32:31Yeah, we get a couple of them even.
- 32:32Yeah, usually. They come in pairs.
- 32:34That's a good point. As predicted, Sam, of course the
- 32:38twins are in there. They are fun.
- 32:40Yeah, they're having a great time.
- 32:41They're like up for anything. Yeah, I've never met.
- 32:44Twins like that. Before, I never met twins like
- 32:46that, but I did know a couple of girls like that.
- 32:48Oh yeah. Well, then they were like, very,
- 32:50very like best friends. So it's like they were siblings
- 32:52but they were up for anything always.
- 32:54Well, there we go. We do get Trish and Tommy.
- 32:58Trish is overdressed. That's right, for the occasion.
- 33:00Overdressed. She my friend off limits.
- 33:04Calling it right now. Her and Sarah off limits.
- 33:06Yeah, yeah, yeah. You don't introduce the virgin
- 33:08girl and then have her be. It's just not, yeah, it's not
- 33:11that edgy. It's just it's more focused on
- 33:13just killing people. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 33:16Speaking of killing people. Rob, Yeah, played by the great
- 33:20Eric. Anderson.
- 33:22Yeah, he's your boy. Well, yeah, he is actually.
- 33:24I loved him in this movie. When I first saw it like he was,
- 33:27I was like, I love this guy. Yeah, he's a maturity about him.
- 33:29He's just cool. They're romance, man.
- 33:32Yeah, Commander Mcduff. OK.
- 33:34From an episode of Star Trek TNG.
- 33:35TN. G They all get their memory
- 33:38erased by some alien. Of course they all wake up.
- 33:42Don't know who anybody is. They're trying to figure out
- 33:44who's the captain, who's Wharf All amnesia.
- 33:47All of them. The whole crew.
- 33:48And this guy, Commander Mcduff, obviously as an audience, we
- 33:52know he's not supposed to be there, but they don't.
- 33:55And it's a good episode. Let's just leave it at that.
- 33:57What season? I would probably say 3 or 4.
- 34:00OK. Yeah, great.
- 34:01Yeah, download it. Yeah, I'll be cut out anyway.
- 34:07But he says he's hunting for bears.
- 34:09But he's asking questions like, are there any kids down at the
- 34:11lake tonight? Or have you seen any kids around
- 34:13the lake? And anything strange happening
- 34:15around the lake? And like, yeah, you, you were
- 34:16the strange happening around. The way you said that was kind
- 34:18of creepy for where the kids at, but I'm impressed how good Tommy
- 34:23is with fixing things. He's a real Jack of all trades
- 34:25handyman. Good for him. more than I am.
- 34:27Yeah, I saw those issues happening and I'm like, I don't
- 34:30know how to fix that. Yeah, felt like an idiot.
- 34:31Felt like an idiot. But luckily, he needed a little
- 34:34help from Rob. Rob.
- 34:36Rob is his name. And of course, Feldman wants to
- 34:39bring up a man to his room. Yeah, he's all excited about
- 34:41this. Yeah, it's, you know, you.
- 34:43Get the impression they live there.
- 34:45They live there, right? So maybe it is just like, give
- 34:48me something new. Give me somebody to hang out
- 34:50with. Because if I'm a 10 year old kid
- 34:52and there's nobody in the neighborhood.
- 34:54We saw it, Mr. Megorium. True.
- 34:56So yeah, you want to show people your shit?
- 34:58I think so. People like the stuff.
- 34:59Yeah. I mean, certainly the first
- 35:01thing I would do in my house now, like, you know, like, oh
- 35:03look, I mounted this or I put that up or whatever.
- 35:05It's just. I.
- 35:06Haven't seen any speakers mounted.
- 35:08That's what you want to mount? Yeah.
- 35:09That's not the only thing. I want to do.
- 35:11I did say that we want to Mount Sam, probably, I imagine, and
- 35:17you might be able to because there is a party tonight.
- 35:19That's right, yes, things are heating up on the other side.
- 35:22Trish is invited. She was invited cordially.
- 35:24Yes, yeah, I love all the stuff with Tommy and Rob, though
- 35:28again, I'm watching the mask work because it was going to be
- 35:31the end of Jason. Seemingly.
- 35:34They brought Tom Savini back who did the make up for the first
- 35:37movie. Talented men.
- 35:38These are all Tom Savini creations, so it's an
- 35:40opportunity to kind of. Show off his work.
- 35:42Yep, Yep, Yep. And I kind of dig it, that
- 35:44puppet with the eyes and. All the no, I get it.
- 35:46Look at what I can do, yeah. Pretty impressive stuff.
- 35:49Anyways, let's set the stage here for the party, Philip.
- 35:51Okie, Dokie. House party?
- 35:53Yep, you know, similar to Kane. Hardly wades.
- 35:57Yeah, sure. Absolutely.
- 35:57Well, the same elements. Yeah, totally.
- 35:59Not really, just alcohol. And people.
- 36:02The Twins are shotgunning. Beer.
- 36:04Yeah, that's impressive. They're into everything.
- 36:06They really are. They are.
- 36:06Go to gals. I'm not buying it.
- 36:09Really. They're not buying it, dude.
- 36:10In Australia they're the weakest link.
- 36:11Oh, maybe. Weakest link.
- 36:12Weakest link. Wow.
- 36:14And they are linked. They are linked.
- 36:15They are twins. That's right, Teddy got a little
- 36:18handsy. You could tell that, right?
- 36:19That guy's. Creepy.
- 36:20A little bit creepy, and Crispin's a little bit weird too
- 36:24though. Crispin in Life is weird.
- 36:26He's a weird guy. He has some weird interviews and
- 36:28stuff. Yeah, he's an odd.
- 36:29Odd duck. He did make a movie called
- 36:31Willard which I. Loved he didn't love you.
- 36:33Love I love. I know the difference.
- 36:35So good. I know the difference.
- 36:37Yeah, he is. Strangely, I've done a little
- 36:39research on this because I, I've know a lot about these movies
- 36:41over the years. He is dancing.
- 36:44What I found out later, of course it was apparently ACD CS
- 36:47back in black that was playing and if you listen to that song
- 36:52he's. Looks perfectly.
- 36:53Fine. And you connect that to his
- 36:54movements. There's a certain staccato
- 36:57nature of the song, and so when he's sort of jerking left and
- 37:00right, you can synchronize that better than whatever music they
- 37:04did put into the movie. Copyright issues.
- 37:05You think so? They didn't want to pay for.
- 37:07It you probably went on in an interview say that I was made to
- 37:09look like that's. Right, you did this to me.
- 37:11Ruined my career. Absolutely, yeah.
- 37:13You just have this creepy stairs moment.
- 37:16He's talking to Teddy. He's like, I want to talk to you
- 37:19about something. He's very weird.
- 37:20I don't know, It was odd. He's.
- 37:22Stuttering. He's.
- 37:25I want to tell you it's very strange.
- 37:27Meanwhile, it's your girl. Maybe.
- 37:30I don't know if Paul and Sam are exclusive.
- 37:32He doesn't seem to know either. Yeah, twin one.
- 37:36We're just going to call her Twin one.
- 37:38They have different personalities.
- 37:39They're not exactly the same. They both like beer, but they
- 37:43kind of go their separate ways and some other aspects are of
- 37:46their life. But she has no boundaries.
- 37:48Doesn't seem to twin 1. And Sam's like, you know what,
- 37:51I'm just going to take off. But I think she's assuming Paul
- 37:54will follow. Of course, which?
- 37:56Plays perfectly into what we get It's.
- 37:59The people that hang up the phone, they know you're going to
- 38:00call back. I never called back.
- 38:02I got hung on the phone three times in my life.
- 38:04Good for you. And never called her back.
- 38:06Good for you, I said. Don't play that game.
- 38:08You want to talk to me, talk to me.
- 38:09You want to hang up, hang up. But we're not doing this games.
- 38:12Mr. Richardy over here. Good.
- 38:13For you fit of rage, I was in that age 1718 years old.
- 38:17I'm like, just don't do that bullshit.
- 38:19Just don't. Just don't.
- 38:22What you should be doing is going outside when it's dark.
- 38:25Yeah. And getting naked, yeah.
- 38:27I had issues with that in a previous Friday.
- 38:30Know your surroundings, but I think I'm OK with it just
- 38:35because the space seemed like a little wide open.
- 38:37And she finds a raft. Yes.
- 38:40Swims out to the raft. To the raft.
- 38:41Yeah, why? Why wouldn't you exactly hang
- 38:43out the raft? You're not going to float around
- 38:45all the time. You want to not swim, tread
- 38:46water, get on the raft. Big mistake.
- 38:48Turns out not to end well. Great kill.
- 38:51It's a great kill, absolutely. Watching her really struggle and
- 38:55leaping out of the water. I'm sure you jumped and I assume
- 38:57I unanticipated. I mean, you know it's coming,
- 39:00but you don't know when it's coming, is my point, right?
- 39:02I mean, it's a perfect opportunity.
- 39:03Here, totally. It's taking the elements of the
- 39:05bed and sort of stuff we've seen before and just plussing it up a
- 39:07little bit, changing up the dynamic, the scenery.
- 39:09Tweak here, tweak there. Exactly.
- 39:11I love it. I like the way she plays it.
- 39:13You really feel her struggle, her pain, her.
- 39:15Yeah. Very good.
- 39:17The faces that she's making nailed it.
- 39:19Audio Podcast. Because people could see that
- 39:20face you made. And ultimately, Paul does come.
- 39:23Yeah, he's a good guy. Better late than never, yeah?
- 39:26Probably should have taken a pass on this one.
- 39:29And basically ones up her kill, yeah, quality wise totally
- 39:34harpoon to the. Scroats.
- 39:37Yeah. Yeah, it's really good.
- 39:38And his reaction is fantastic, yeah.
- 39:41And the shot using steam off the lake and him holding up in the
- 39:45shadows I thought was just great.
- 39:46And Jason's already used the harpoon in Part 3.
- 39:48Yeah, we're in reruns already. That's right, but it but a
- 39:50different way, right? That's one directly to the eye.
- 39:52This is obviously a much different circumstance.
- 39:54I mean, when you do 1 harpoon, you're like, I think there's
- 39:56more. There's more opportunity like
- 39:58this Harpoon's a good one. Yeah, and Paul did scream, as
- 40:00you do when you get a harpoon to the nads.
- 40:02As you would, yes. Yeah.
- 40:04From what I understand and that alerts Rob.
- 40:06Yeah, he's out there just hunting for bears.
- 40:08No big deal. He's got a tent.
- 40:09Yes, of course. As you do.
- 40:12Yeah. And he hears it, and he's sort
- 40:14of curious, and he runs back to his campsite and his stuff has
- 40:19been smashed. That miss anything there or it
- 40:21was just kind of like. No, it's basically just
- 40:23someone's fucked with us, OK? Jason didn't take anything.
- 40:25I don't think he. Just broke his gun or his
- 40:26harpoon himself. I thought at first I felt like
- 40:28he had taken the harpoon from robbed.
- 40:30Oh no, he had that from Part 3. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:33And we kind of cut back to the room.
- 40:34This is going to be a lot of intercutting because ultimately
- 40:36one of the trade-offs for having so many characters, there's a
- 40:39lot of different things, yeah, happening in different parts of
- 40:41your campground. Setting up people, they're going
- 40:43places. That's right, you need to
- 40:44isolate them at times but. You're not going to kill them
- 40:46right away. You got to go back and then set
- 40:48that character up and get them into the where they need to be.
- 40:50That's right for their death. I mean, ultimately we got
- 40:52Crispin and Twin 1. Yeah, they go upstairs and.
- 40:55We got Teddy who finds an old porno reel, yeah.
- 40:59More or less. Stag.
- 41:00Stag film. Yeah, sure.
- 41:01Yeah. From back in the day.
- 41:02From back in the day. Vintage, which everybody loves.
- 41:05This guy really loves it. Nonstop laughter is pretty high.
- 41:08I guess it's the thing, too. He's something.
- 41:10And we've got Doug and Sarah Teddy in the middle.
- 41:13He's kind of up front. He's in the front row.
- 41:15That's right. And then we have Sarah.
- 41:17And Doug. Doug in the back row.
- 41:19Yeah, and they're just chilling. Chilling.
- 41:22But there's a little. She's warming up, she's warming
- 41:24up and we get a little. You want to get the bottom bunk?
- 41:28Yeah, I want you to have the bottom bunk.
- 41:29OK, sure, babe. You want to take the talk?
- 41:32No, well played. Totally, totally coy.
- 41:36That to me is like that's young feels pretty natural in a weird
- 41:40way, silly teenager stuff. Oh absolutely.
- 41:43So I'm kind of on board, but basically those two leave yes
- 41:46and go upstairs to the shower, to the shower, which I.
- 41:49Thought they may have called an audible.
- 41:50Yeah, sure. Skip the bunk, go for the shower
- 41:53sex. Yeah.
- 41:54I mean, if it's your first time, I don't know if shower sex is
- 41:56where you want to start. I don't know.
- 41:58That's an intermediate level, it's not a beginner.
- 42:01Level OK. You got to worry about the
- 42:03positioning. You're slipping and you're
- 42:05sliding. I don't know my levels.
- 42:07I don't know my levels. She doesn't either, and I think
- 42:08she should figure it out, but yeah.
- 42:11And so we leave Teddy in the in the in the main room, watching
- 42:14the stag. Film and like, loving and
- 42:17loving, just eating it up. I love him as a character.
- 42:19I like the Teddy computer stuff, I like all his conversations, I
- 42:22like all his advice, I like his acting, I like everything about
- 42:24it. But dude, stop fucking laughing.
- 42:27Yeah, it's just too damn much. I can only give you so much
- 42:30lenience. That's right.
- 42:31We haven't talked much about Twin 2, no.
- 42:33Twin ones occupied a lot of our conversations you're.
- 42:36Right, she's the fun one. Yeah, that's true.
- 42:38Yeah, Twin 2 is a bit of a sour puss.
- 42:39And she goes upstairs, yes, and wants to leave, yeah, but she
- 42:43wants to do her twin because they do everything.
- 42:45Sure, they're both not everything.
- 42:46Not everything that. Would be a different movie.
- 42:48Twin one says you go. Yes.
- 42:51Are you with me? When two says I'm going to leave
- 42:54without you, that's what you go means.
- 42:57That's what going means, yes. Yes.
- 42:59Saying the writing's a little little iffy.
- 43:01A little iffy, to say the least. And well.
- 43:05She leaves, she does. This is one of my favorite
- 43:08kills. OK for a guy that loves the gory
- 43:11and the. Group.
- 43:11Not much of that to this one. Just the effect and the use of
- 43:15the trick, the lighting effect, the shadow against the front of
- 43:20the house, the cabin, the spear going in.
- 43:23That's classic old school. You're sliding the knife
- 43:26underneath your arm, but the shadow looks like you're getting
- 43:28stabbed and then luckily pays it off.
- 43:30But getting thrown. I was like, this is great.
- 43:32I love this kill for the simplicity of it.
- 43:35I would agree. I'd actually kind of liked it
- 43:36too. I like not seeing the kill and
- 43:39then seeing the result. The result.
- 43:40We've had spear work before. That's right.
- 43:42Let's switch it up a little something special with it, which
- 43:44I thought it did. I love this kill since we're
- 43:47outside Phil, Yeah. Let's go across the street.
- 43:50Jarvi time, Yes. Gotcha.
- 43:52There's a lot of moving pieces. That's right, lots of INS and
- 43:54outs and what's have used. Let's not forget it's raining
- 43:56true. You love that, don't you?
- 43:58That's why I just talked about the lightning and the rain and
- 44:00the poncho that she gets thrown up against.
- 44:02I was like this is so good. You're a real weather guy.
- 44:05In these movies, it's all about the weather.
- 44:07Every once in a while we get a kill, but we don't see it.
- 44:10Truth. How do you feel about that?
- 44:12It bothers me. I want to see the kill, or I
- 44:14want to see the result of the kill.
- 44:16What happens next? We get neither.
- 44:18But we get a. Scream doesn't matter the shriek
- 44:21into nothingness that the mother gives at this point.
- 44:24You're not having it. It's just unsatisfying like
- 44:27that. She's potentially dead, but I
- 44:28don't want the ambiguity. I want her to be dead or I want
- 44:32her to not be dead. There's a deleted scene where a
- 44:35little bit later when Trish comes back with Rob, goes
- 44:38upstairs and sees the mom dead in the bathtub, but it's
- 44:42deleted. So up until very recently, I
- 44:44didn't know that that was a thing.
- 44:46So. So you didn't get to see
- 44:47anything. So that bothered me always.
- 44:49Sorry to hear it you brought it up.
- 44:52I wish I hadn't. Crispin.
- 45:02Yes. Crispy.
- 45:03Crispy. I used to have a guy, a friend
- 45:05of mine named Crispy. His name was Crispin, but we
- 45:08called him Crispy. OK, yeah, I like Crispers.
- 45:10Yeah. All dressed, buddy.
- 45:11Yeah, I think I have some at home actually.
- 45:13Dollar 88. That's a good deal.
- 45:15Yeah, Crispin, he gets a raw deal.
- 45:17We already established that he wants to go Round 2.
- 45:20That's true. He's ready to go.
- 45:21Well, he's not quite ready. He's about to be.
- 45:23He's a little bit of wine. He needs a Corkscrew.
- 45:25Not me, because I used to drink cheap wine.
- 45:27Yeah. Twis cap.
- 45:28Twis cap. Yeah.
- 45:29Which reminded me briefly of Halloween.
- 45:32Was there a Corkscrew involved? H2O at the sink.
- 45:36Well, that's not a Corkscrew, it's a carburetor.
- 45:37But he was looking for a. Corkscrew.
- 45:39He was looking for a Corkscrew, wasn't it?
- 45:40Right. And it fell into the carburetor.
- 45:42There you go. Good job.
- 45:44Great memories. Great memories of that movie,
- 45:47Steve Minor classic. In this case, the Corkscrew goes
- 45:51through his hands. Yes, so good favorite kill.
- 45:54I don't know if I have a favorite kill.
- 45:55This is a good one though because it's a double whammy.
- 45:58Double whammy and he gets something to his head.
- 45:59Cleaver. Cleaver.
- 46:00Yeah, it's phenomenal. This is my favorite kill.
- 46:03This is your favorite? Kill 100% because of that same
- 46:05reason. He's just such a distinctive,
- 46:07definitive, singular. Entity.
- 46:11Character, sure, entity, but a character in the movie, right?
- 46:15Like there's we've had three movies of fairly interchangeable
- 46:18characters that we don't know the names of and don't really
- 46:20know the characteristics of and you're pretty girl and you're
- 46:23fat guy and you're sport guy, like all very generic
- 46:26stereotypes. There is no one up until now, I
- 46:29think in any of these movies that would have been a Jimmy
- 46:32character vibe. So having that character be so
- 46:35fairly unique and dying, I think, in such a unique kind of
- 46:38fashion. Everyone else, it's like a
- 46:40harpoon to the balls, which is a great kill, but there's
- 46:42something about the. I think I like that one the
- 46:44extra. Pain that comes in here where
- 46:47it's the initial slamming of the Corkscrew and then having him
- 46:50turn around and then get in the cleaver to the face and the
- 46:53blood gore pouring out of his face.
- 46:56That is just magic. Better than Kevin Bacon.
- 46:58So far, I think this is my favorite because it's got the
- 47:01best elements of what I would have seen in the guy that got
- 47:05killed in the wheelchair in Part 2.
- 47:06Mark. Mark his name, dammit.
- 47:08Jesus. It is the equivalent of that
- 47:13because Mark, we see from the back this, we get to see the
- 47:16look. It's a great look.
- 47:18And then in a timely fashion, we'll dispatch his partner,
- 47:21correct? I think that's the way to do it.
- 47:23This is the post sex kill, by the way.
- 47:26I figured you'd clue into that. Yes, for sure.
- 47:28Absolutely. This is that I like this one
- 47:30Twin 2 you like. I do like twin 2, now that I
- 47:32think about it. This twin one, actually.
- 47:33Twin one. Come on, now.
- 47:34Yeah, yeah, yeah. Twin one's the fun one.
- 47:36That's right, because it involves a window.
- 47:38Yes. And it's different.
- 47:40Change of scenery. And it's not incredibly gory.
- 47:42You're right. Allies.
- 47:43You know mine. We're up it well shot.
- 47:49It's a great fall right on top of the car.
- 47:52Looks great up to now. That is my favorite kill.
- 47:54Fantastic. Just to shut you up.
- 47:56I appreciate it. You didn't have to give me in
- 47:57the moment. You could do me at the.
- 47:58End. I felt pressured.
- 47:59I felt pressured. I think it's fair to reasonable
- 48:02to ask SO. They're done.
- 48:05Yes, they are. But this Switch gear is just for
- 48:07a moment, and we'll get a little bit of dialogue, a little.
- 48:11Bit of back story character development briefly, don't
- 48:14worry. Yeah, we had an idea.
- 48:15Rob had something to say. Yes, he's obviously got some
- 48:19characteristics. That need to be fleshed down.
- 48:21Why is he on the hunt? Is he just like a weirdo?
- 48:24Yeah, no, he's got 'cause. Yes, he does.
- 48:27Probable. He probably does, yeah.
- 48:31I need you for this one. OK?
- 48:32I know his sister was killed by Jason.
- 48:35That's what he says. Yeah, Sandra.
- 48:37OK, hold on. Let me visualize everybody.
- 48:39You might be arrested for visualizing too much Sandra, 17.
- 48:43Oh, it's her. Yeah.
- 48:44Oh, OK. That's Sandra.
- 48:46OK, but what's interesting, if you're looking at it logically,
- 48:49this guy has been clearly hunting, seemingly for a while,
- 48:52and his sisters Sandra's disappeared.
- 48:55Now, by the logic of the movie, this, this person's been dead
- 49:00for 30 hours. Again, I don't care.
- 49:02It doesn't bother me. But only when you've seen a
- 49:04movie 100 times, right? There's a little bit of like,
- 49:06wait a minute, this guy's like, all over the entire campgrounds,
- 49:09as if he's like, on this hunt for a long time.
- 49:11Is it only 30 hours? All of this stuff is happening
- 49:14basically over a six hour period.
- 49:15You would just assume like I guess I'm just used to trilogy.
- 49:18Logic and. Well, that too.
- 49:21It's been 4 years movie time but we're not in real time so it
- 49:24makes it interesting for the character.
- 49:25Again, nobody gives it a crap and and it's totally fine, but
- 49:28he's very passionate. Rob to.
- 49:29Live and he's trying to find her.
- 49:31Yeah, his body's missing. Yes, it was stolen.
- 49:34Yeah, he somehow knows two people are missing as.
- 49:36Well, and Trish's not having any of it, how is an excuse for
- 49:39everything really shuts him down?
- 49:40Yeah. Come on lady, we'll see about
- 49:43that. Worried about it?
- 49:44He's not worrying about it as Teddy.
- 49:46This guy is not a care in the world.
- 49:48Unfortunately. He loves this stag film so much.
- 49:51When the reel breaks, he's lost, doesn't know what to do, and
- 49:54even then he's still laughing and he stands behind the movie
- 49:57screen and gets a knife to the back of the head.
- 49:59That he does. I have some questions around the
- 50:02logistics. Of course.
- 50:04He gets close to the screen to kiss the character.
- 50:08Yeah, he's being super weird. Sure.
- 50:09Whatever. Behind him is the film.
- 50:11Yeah, it stops somehow. Jason has teleported.
- 50:15Yeah, yeah, this is a skill he's got.
- 50:18So I do have issues around the teleportation.
- 50:20Sure. Now, if you recall the Friday
- 50:22the 13th game, one of your special powers as Jason, gift of
- 50:25teleportation. Oh, OK, so they acknowledge in
- 50:28the game, in the game that it's a little ridiculous, but it is a
- 50:31bright light and he's confused. Teddy is and he's high.
- 50:35So maybe Jason just didn't teleport, just moved very fast.
- 50:39Who's to say what's happening over?
- 50:40Here I'm to say it's your shit. But it's a good kill knife in
- 50:44the back of the head. Hey, if it's in the game, it's
- 50:46in the game. He had the bread on the white
- 50:48screen. It's a nice touch.
- 50:49Figured you'd like that. Yes, we've dispatched the twins.
- 50:53We've dispatched Teddy and Jimmy.
- 50:55There's two people left in the house.
- 50:57We have Sarah, who's in sex mode.
- 51:00Yes, she is. And Scott Granger, that's right.
- 51:03And they're going to have a shower together.
- 51:04Yeah. This is a better example of the
- 51:07presex, Yeah, much better than Paul and Sam the possible.
- 51:11That was more, that was more assumed.
- 51:13That's right. This is just because they have a
- 51:14reputation. But this is built in.
- 51:17Yeah, here it is. Yes, it's happening and it would
- 51:20have happened and I know. For a fact you love the Grainger
- 51:23kill Absolutely I do in the shower.
- 51:25So good. Those rotted gross hands of
- 51:28Jason with a disgusting fingernails.
- 51:30He needs to, really. Pressing his face and crushing
- 51:32it. Oh man, it's and watching the
- 51:34feed and the flutter and the blood and the.
- 51:36Oh yeah, it's perfect. Sorry, A manicure.
- 51:37I said pedicure. Yeah, correct myself.
- 51:40I probably needs both. Yeah.
- 51:42Yeah. If you recall, I had a really
- 51:45good idea last week of who was going to last.
- 51:48Yes. The final two, it's pretty
- 51:50obvious. Sure.
- 51:51Because they had gone off somewhere.
- 51:52That's right. I thought I knew in this one I
- 51:55had ideas and Sarah might have been the final stand.
- 51:59Got you. But in the back of my mind, it
- 52:01makes sense that the family, it's in their favor.
- 52:06So this was a little abrupt for me.
- 52:08I think she might get away, turns out.
- 52:10It's a weird kill for me because.
- 52:12How? So Philip, what I like about it
- 52:14is she ends up going to a door and there's an explosion that
- 52:18happens at her head, and if you're watching slowly, it kind
- 52:21of explodes. In her head, regular speed.
- 52:23But the edit has her take an axe to the stomach and she falls
- 52:28backwards and she's sort of writhing and she's basically
- 52:30dead in an instant. But it looks like she gets an
- 52:33axe to the head I was really excited about.
- 52:35That yeah, yeah, of course, yeah.
- 52:36Disappointed, of course, that it just went into her chest.
- 52:38That's an oversight. Yeah, it's a little bit of a mix
- 52:40up, but no big deal. End of the day, it's fine
- 52:43there's. Blood.
- 52:44There's Gore. That's right, I'll take it.
- 52:46But we end up back at the Jarvis house.
- 52:49Yes, right. Tommy is there.
- 52:51Yeah. They're wondering where Mom is.
- 52:53That's right. Trish runs back with Rob.
- 52:56Yeah, yeah, yeah. And now all three of them are in
- 52:58there because they're saying Tommy's alone at the cabin.
- 53:01He's tough. So they rush back, see that he's
- 53:04OK, They're trying to call the cops.
- 53:06You see Jason's gnarled hands pull the phone line off the
- 53:09house, a little aggressive. I love that.
- 53:11I bet you do. Because otherwise, again, we
- 53:13have these moments where it just happens.
- 53:15This is like a real guy in action.
- 53:17Typically, Jason seems to be in the right place at the right
- 53:21time and nobody sees him. That's right.
- 53:23Like even leaving the hospital and killing like that.
- 53:25No, he's fast. Yeah.
- 53:28Yeah. What I found funny about this
- 53:30moment is they get back, Tommy's there, they try to make the
- 53:33phone call, They rushed back specifically because Tommy was
- 53:36alone. Correct.
- 53:38And then within two minutes, they both leave.
- 53:40Yeah, they're both like we got to go to.
- 53:42The house. We're going to go check the
- 53:43house. You're fine.
- 53:44Stay here. He's got it.
- 53:47So it just maybe chuckled it. It was the most important thing.
- 53:49We had to get back to the cabin. And we're good.
- 53:51See you later. Major plot hole.
- 53:53Yeah. I felt a miss opportunity
- 53:54happened, but I know it wasn't in the cards.
- 53:57OK. Tommy was downstairs with the
- 53:59flashlight to get the power back on.
- 54:01Yes. And what would scare me?
- 54:03Because you have a very small circumference, radius, diameter,
- 54:07all of it. And if you flash that light and
- 54:09just see that hockey mask? Yeah, in a flash too.
- 54:12You don't have. Any that's good totally and I
- 54:14just. Felt that opportunity, yeah, but
- 54:16I know. He's in the other house, yes,
- 54:18but why doesn't he use his teleportation?
- 54:20So I'm saying go all in, go all in, commit.
- 54:24Yeah, we're in the last 20 minutes now.
- 54:25Things are really going to start heating up.
- 54:28Rob goes downstairs to check out the lights, and weirdly, out of
- 54:31nowhere, we see Gordon go through the window.
- 54:34Do you think Gordon's dead by the end of this movie?
- 54:36Oh, we've seen Part 2 and how they handle Muffin.
- 54:41Dead, then alive, then dead. I don't know, there's too much
- 54:43going on. I think he's dead.
- 54:45That's too bad. I don't mind the small dogs
- 54:47getting it. Yeah.
- 54:48But. I have a respect.
- 54:49For the bigger dogs, Retriever, yeah, but we do have a little
- 54:52bit of foreshadowing. Tommy's looking through Rob's
- 54:55stuff. And sees.
- 54:57The articles and sees the artist rendering of what young Jason
- 55:00looked like at the end of Part 1.
- 55:02Handsome. Yeah.
- 55:04We don't yet know what that's going to translate to, but we
- 55:06see that Tommy's taking an interest.
- 55:08Yes, mental note. But we've got Robin and Tricia
- 55:10the cabin now, and they're going downstairs to check out the
- 55:14lights. Rob is.
- 55:15You have to. You got to check out the lights.
- 55:17Lights are such a big role in horror movies.
- 55:19Totally. The only thing I really like
- 55:21about this kill because Rob's about to get it.
- 55:23OK, it's a little silly in hindsight, but I don't mind it.
- 55:26It's the he's killing me, he's killing me.
- 55:29If you're up on the stairs on the 1st floor and you're hearing
- 55:31that coming from the basement, that's pretty terrifying.
- 55:34I would imagine. To hear that, yeah.
- 55:36And I, he's killing me. He's killing.
- 55:37Get out. Get out.
- 55:38Yeah. That's kind of scary.
- 55:39It was the worst possible time to have your foot go through the
- 55:42stairs. Yeah.
- 55:42That's just she came back down like, what are we?
- 55:45Talking about that was just. Poorly played.
- 55:47Yeah, that part is like, weirdly the only part of the movie where
- 55:49I'm like, stupid. I thought maybe in a weird way.
- 55:52I thought we had an ally situation, OK, that he was gonna
- 55:55come back. Oh yeah, sure, sure.
- 55:57Mcduff is Mcdead. Yes, at the moment I thought the
- 56:00same, like, oh, maybe he didn't, you know, we don't see him, but
- 56:03we do find out. Yes, we do.
- 56:04At this point, Trish is terrified.
- 56:07She's having a bad day, yes. She's in a bit of a panic, kind
- 56:11of running around the house, wants to get out.
- 56:14And I get that You don't want to hang around.
- 56:16No, you want to flee. She was frozen on the stairs for
- 56:18a bit, kind of watched Rob get it.
- 56:21Yes. Which was the well, whatever
- 56:23gets you, whatever floats your boat.
- 56:25They are a family of voyeurs we established Tommy likes to watch
- 56:27too. She opens up a door and we have
- 56:31twin 2 lying on the ground. Correct.
- 56:34Are you with me? I'm with you.
- 56:35Let's get the geography here. She goes to door #2 and we have
- 56:41Crispin Mclovin, whatever his name is, kind of hang in there.
- 56:45Yeah, staked, basically. Yeah, Spiked.
- 56:47In that's good luck. So she doesn't know how to get
- 56:50out. Trapped.
- 56:51She's trapped. So she breaks a window.
- 56:54My question to you, Philip, if you can explain this.
- 56:56If you can't, I understand. I don't expect you to.
- 56:59Why can you have gone out the front door with the twin 2 on
- 57:02the ground? Very good question.
- 57:04I understand not going out the other door because that's kind
- 57:06of gross. I still would because.
- 57:10The killer has come. But all you have to do is just
- 57:11jump over the body. Totally that.
- 57:13Doesn't make sense. What else doesn't make sense?
- 57:16If again nitpicking twin one gets thrown out of the window
- 57:23from the same height, Basically it's same room or more or less
- 57:27the same floor. Dies on the spot.
- 57:30Trish, however, no problem. I thought she might be a level
- 57:32down. OK.
- 57:35Maybe it was the velocity because she would she jumped up
- 57:37her own volition did throw on top of a car.
- 57:40True. She just landed on the ground
- 57:42which is a little bit soft because of the rain.
- 57:44That's possible. I've totally bought that she
- 57:46survived that. OK.
- 57:47I think they spent the right amount of time with her lying on
- 57:49the ground. Respect.
- 57:50Yeah. Great shot, great stunt.
- 57:53But yeah. So now she runs back to the
- 57:54house and we're in classic mode. Barricade the doors, lock him
- 57:57up, put out the block all the entrances.
- 58:01Safety first. What happens in every single one
- 58:04of these movies when you've locked all the doors and blocked
- 58:06all the doors? Power goes out, lights go out,
- 58:10window breaks, window breaks, of course, So we get robbed getting
- 58:15thrown through the window. Oh yeah, the proof that he's
- 58:18dead and he's got some sort of spike in his neck.
- 58:20And hair, right? That was a great moment.
- 58:22But really, the cool scene in this to me is when Jason bursts
- 58:26through the door and grabs Tommy Feldman's look.
- 58:30It's just like terrified. Like I was like, this is a kid
- 58:33who who's an actor I don't love, but watching his performance of
- 58:36that fear you. Can feel it.
- 58:37Yeah, he does that exceptionally well, I thought.
- 58:40Obviously this movie is it's heating up.
- 58:42It's the last 15. It's we have our final two
- 58:44survivors. Yeah, I'm thinking they'll
- 58:47probably make it. OK, that's fine.
- 58:49Yeah, sure. Because I don't know how.
- 58:51Yeah, of course. Of course it's going to be
- 58:52interesting. You can make your assumptions.
- 58:54I had no idea ATV was going to be involved.
- 58:57You're ATV guy so it feels like this is right up your alley and
- 59:00her family. Used to be subscribed to TV
- 59:01Guide but you can't do that with a flat screen.
- 59:05We talked a lot lately about technology and that's one thing
- 59:08you missed. Opportunities.
- 59:09A little tube tub boom messed him up a bit.
- 59:11Knocked him out almost. Yeah, yeah, Classic horror
- 59:14movie, right? We saw it in Halloween, we've
- 59:16seen it in previous Friday movies, and I have to step over
- 59:19the body to get to the. I was worried that she wouldn't
- 59:22do that because she has a problem stepping over bodies.
- 59:24You recall 3 minutes ago she was unwilling to do such a thing.
- 59:28But here we are. And he has to make a choice.
- 59:30Jason does. Yeah.
- 59:31Who do you go with? Chase the kid.
- 59:33You chase the girl. You chase the girl, you figure
- 59:35you can catch the kid later. All right.
- 59:36I love that there's this choice moment.
- 59:38I think it's a real subtle thing and it may not matter in the
- 59:41grand scheme. Choose your own adventure.
- 59:42But I like that, that it's an element of this movie that it's
- 59:45put in and you see him processing.
- 59:48Oh yeah. And he moves One Direction,
- 59:49moves another and then commits. Something about it stands out as
- 59:51something that's unique to this movie, and in a way that the
- 59:54others haven't. I felt it.
- 59:55Yeah, I think it's good. Yeah, we're back at the Jarvis
- 1:00:05house at this point. That's right, I'm with it.
- 1:00:07And Jason starts to, for the first time, really get some
- 1:00:11damage. I mean he did have an axe in the
- 1:00:12head in Part 3, so granted. He's died once.
- 1:00:17Yes. But we have what I think is one
- 1:00:19of the cool effects, which is the machete to the hand as he
- 1:00:22goes to reach and she basically chops it in half.
- 1:00:26Your thoughts on that? Yeah, I would say in general,
- 1:00:28this movie has upped the ante and all of that.
- 1:00:31Yeah. Everything they've done with the
- 1:00:33blood and the stabs and the harpoon, everything is level up.
- 1:00:36Yeah. And I like this one.
- 1:00:39For a guy who doesn't like this stuff, I can appreciate that's
- 1:00:42right, the improvement that I see.
- 1:00:45Yeah, from previous installments.
- 1:00:47I think that's ultimately what we've talked about, right?
- 1:00:48Like you don't have to love what it is, so you can love how it
- 1:00:52is. I think there's ways to
- 1:00:53appreciate or see like that's clever, that's cool, that's
- 1:00:55neat. You know, whatever else.
- 1:00:56Even if you're like, I don't want to see someone get cut open
- 1:00:59who does, but you do in watching Part 3, cutting the guy who's
- 1:01:02standing on his hands, like that's cool.
- 1:01:03Whether it's, you know, healthy or not is irrelevant.
- 1:01:08But this is the final stance. That's right.
- 1:01:11Yes, that I can say for. This is the moment, this is it.
- 1:01:14And so she is now terrified. She's beating him with the
- 1:01:17hammer, and in the midst of this, Jason gets his hands on
- 1:01:19her. Tommy comes down and he's done a
- 1:01:22little makeover himself. Yeah, we've cut to that a couple
- 1:01:24of times. As he's prepping his little.
- 1:01:26I don't think his mother would like it, but she's dead, so.
- 1:01:29Fair. That's OK.
- 1:01:30Yeah, I think in terms of what were your thoughts on this?
- 1:01:34On what specifically? Just the the haircut choice.
- 1:01:37Or what I think about when I used to watch wrestling in the
- 1:01:4090s, there would be this thing where someone would distract
- 1:01:44somebody. Oh yeah, right.
- 1:01:46And they get rolled up and they do this, right?
- 1:01:48Like something happens on the ramp, someone looks over and
- 1:01:51then gets rolled up and it's over.
- 1:01:53And I think about Part 2 and Jenny wearing the mom sweater
- 1:01:59pretending to be Jason's mom. Which I believe liked that.
- 1:02:02Moment you did, I did and I did too.
- 1:02:04So I wonder now I liked it more that were that were two movies
- 1:02:08later and this is a variation on that same thing.
- 1:02:12How do you take this one? Is it in the same sphere or not?
- 1:02:15First of all, I understand that we're dealing in a world of
- 1:02:17variations. Yes.
- 1:02:19OK. Yeah.
- 1:02:20Let's establish signed on for that.
- 1:02:22That's built in, yeah. I had questions around how long
- 1:02:25that would take. Irrelevant really.
- 1:02:29I mean, I just mean like, yeah, it could take, yeah, probably
- 1:02:32couldn't do it in the in the time frame, but almost done.
- 1:02:35Yeah. Can you just hold off?
- 1:02:37I'm off a little longer. If this is truly the final
- 1:02:40chapter, If it was, I am pretty content with how they wrap it up
- 1:02:45in general with him trying to fool Jason, looking like him as
- 1:02:50a kid trying to have a connection there.
- 1:02:52Sort of empathy almost, and connections.
- 1:02:53Exactly. So I I'm all in.
- 1:02:55OK. Yeah.
- 1:02:56So you're not like, oh, I've seen this before.
- 1:02:58We had none of those kind of judgements.
- 1:03:00Great. It's a big enough.
- 1:03:01Variation. But let's get to the next
- 1:03:02question then, which is Trish ends up knocking Jason's mask
- 1:03:06off and we get the full reveal of the newest version of Jason's
- 1:03:12face. Graphics have improved every
- 1:03:15year. So what are your thoughts on his
- 1:03:16look and then ultimately the machete to the head, but more
- 1:03:19specifically of the look in general?
- 1:03:21I'm still thinking about sloth. Yeah, okay.
- 1:03:24Better version, however, the knife going through the head.
- 1:03:30Well done. I love it.
- 1:03:31Everybody knows you love it. The fact that I love it, or even
- 1:03:35like it, or can even. Stand it.
- 1:03:38Yeah. Says something.
- 1:03:40Yeah. It's one thing to get the
- 1:03:41machete to the head. That's one thing.
- 1:03:43And then having him fall forward and watching it rise up.
- 1:03:47Yeah. It's like, that's your plus
- 1:03:49moment. This is Savini going all out.
- 1:03:50So I'm glad you appreciate. It had all the trimmings.
- 1:03:52It really did. He needs to be dead or we are
- 1:03:56getting into sure at this point he's got half his head been
- 1:03:59yeah, we're getting into a whole new dimension here, which I'm
- 1:04:02not willing to go. Totally makes sense.
- 1:04:04Not yet. Baby steps.
- 1:04:05I love it, and I love that he twitches.
- 1:04:08I'll give it a twitch. You can have the twitch,
- 1:04:10absolutely. That's fun.
- 1:04:11We saw in Rocky 4 when Apollo goes down, he twitches.
- 1:04:14This is what you do when you're about to die.
- 1:04:15Or pee yourself, I think. Or soil yourself.
- 1:04:18Sure. Think so a thing?
- 1:04:19Absolutely. But then we had Tommy, Who
- 1:04:22similarly snaps, eh? Oh, he goes off.
- 1:04:24Die. Die.
- 1:04:25Yeah, he gets right into it, eh? Yeah, you really find enjoyment.
- 1:04:28You connect to that. No, OK.
- 1:04:31I found it exhilarating as a kid that there would be a kid doing
- 1:04:35such things on television. Yeah, there was something a big
- 1:04:38deal about. That's edgy.
- 1:04:39Watching a 1011 whatever year old kid be so violent.
- 1:04:43Yeah, let's Corey bringing it. Yeah, when he's playing the kids
- 1:04:46parts, he feels like he's totally a kid.
- 1:04:48And in this moment, I'm like, I buy that you're fucked up, but
- 1:04:51this has happened. I think Corey Feldman had the
- 1:04:54potential to be a pretty good actor.
- 1:04:55I agree. You got a lot of stuff fucked up
- 1:04:57around him and stuff like that, but.
- 1:04:58Yeah, it was. It's too bad, Totally too bad,
- 1:05:00because you can see the potential.
- 1:05:01There, Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 1:05:03So it's called the final chapter.
- 1:05:05Jason's got his head more or less chopped off back to the
- 1:05:08hospital. Similar to Part 1.
- 1:05:10Anyway. Oh yeah.
- 1:05:11I wonder what your thoughts are as this movie kind of wraps up
- 1:05:13and how it ends and what your thoughts are.
- 1:05:16Obviously you know there is another one, but if you were
- 1:05:19watching, as you said earlier, you think this is the last one.
- 1:05:22Do you feel in that moment, if you could get into that
- 1:05:25headspace, that this is the last one?
- 1:05:27Yes and no. OK, it's the end of Jason.
- 1:05:30OK. And you're thinking?
- 1:05:31Tommy. Maybe not Corey Feldman, but
- 1:05:33somebody sure playing Tommy becomes Jason.
- 1:05:37And I'm going to make another one.
- 1:05:38You go the Tommy route. Well, we'll cross those bridges
- 1:05:41as we come. This kind of works.
- 1:05:42This fun is sort of the blind nature of kind of going to the.
- 1:05:45Next. But I would be right in assuming
- 1:05:46that right it wasn't misunderstanding.
- 1:05:48I don't think so. Feldman's kind of dead eyes
- 1:05:50looking in the camera and going to black feels like.
- 1:05:53All right, you're setting this up.
- 1:05:54It's the last chapter. Well, don't worry, we've got
- 1:05:56another option, you know, potentially so.
- 1:05:59All right, David, this is it. Part 4 Down the drain down the.
- 1:06:02Tubes, you said it. It's actually strange, like I
- 1:06:05said, certainly my favorite at this point.
- 1:06:06Where does it rank for use thus far, and are you as excited at
- 1:06:10the end of three as you were into four and just general
- 1:06:13overall thought? What's interesting about this
- 1:06:15movie is I recognize it is the best one of the four, but by
- 1:06:19being the best, it doesn't mean I like it.
- 1:06:22Sure, because I still don't like horror movies, of course.
- 1:06:26So if they become better, there's a chance we're all like
- 1:06:28it less. That's true.
- 1:06:30OK. Better in this level is less OK.
- 1:06:32Yeah, or the other ones I can have fun with because they're
- 1:06:35maybe not that scary. Or less gore, or less effective.
- 1:06:40Characters you can make fun of, sure.
- 1:06:42So it kind of. Trades, OK, Interesting.
- 1:06:45Yeah, I wouldn't have thought of that, but yeah, OK.
- 1:06:47But I recognize again the production value of it.
- 1:06:50It's inarguable. But one feeling that's different
- 1:06:53about the end of this one is I'm getting to the point where I'm
- 1:06:57ready to maybe wait until EA puts the next one on sale.
- 1:07:04Gotcha. If you follow me, sure.
- 1:07:06Or I skippy. Here.
- 1:07:07Excitement. So I didn't have the interest
- 1:07:09necessarily going to the next one, OK, Even though I was like,
- 1:07:12OK, what are they going to do? Yeah.
- 1:07:15I think ultimately, I think the first one is still probably.
- 1:07:18OK, wow. Going all the way back, Yeah.
- 1:07:19Going all the way back. Respect.
- 1:07:21Yeah. I think the clear loser is 3.
- 1:07:23Yeah, it's weird how that. Didn't hold up at all.
- 1:07:25Yeah, but the. Characters are good enough and
- 1:07:28and 1:00 and 2:00. That sounds about right for me.
- 1:07:30To your point where you have that divergent between the
- 1:07:34better horror movie or the better gorefest it is, the less
- 1:07:37interested you are. I'm the opposite, obviously.
- 1:07:40Yeah, I am all about it. Want more, more more?
- 1:07:42But the kills are better in this one.
- 1:07:44If you calculate how many kills were in all four of them, yeah,
- 1:07:48I would say the top ten. Six of them are in this movie.
- 1:07:51And I think that that's true is that these are imaginative and
- 1:07:53inventive and kind of take what happened before and make it kind
- 1:07:56of plus it up. So, yeah, thanks folks, for
- 1:07:58listening. We do appreciate it.
