- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. You know, let's talk a little bit more
- 0:15Speaker 1: of the superlatives from the game. Best dress, um, and
- 0:19Speaker 1: looks like you know, Aaron Jones or what's the running
- 0:22Speaker 1: back's name. Yeah, he looks like he's playing pretty well.
- 0:25Speaker 1: What if we did a segment that we took the
- 0:28Speaker 1: key element of a game and we called it the
- 0:30Speaker 1: turning point to marry What do you think can we
- 0:32Speaker 1: use that the turning point? She's just looking at me
- 0:35Speaker 1: like I'm not having it all right tomorrow? Were keeping
- 0:38Speaker 1: you up over that? It is? Williams and Philam, what's up? William?
- 0:47Speaker 1: How about muting your phone so that we're not you know,
- 0:51Speaker 1: it's like or the people get it. You're popular from
- 0:54Speaker 1: what you saw. He did well, but you're not. You're
- 0:56Speaker 1: not keying on Cole Strange every play. I want you
- 0:59Speaker 1: to have more confidence from yourself. I was great again, right,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and you make a deep run into the playoffs again,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and god forbid with the super Bowl. Well, I'm just
- 1:08Speaker 1: saying you do come. This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:15Speaker 1: All Right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:18Speaker 1: at Gilette Stadium, and we're gonna be talking about the
- 1:21Speaker 1: Patriots for the next two hours. It's Deuce, It's Alex,
- 1:25Speaker 1: It's Paul, It's Fred and Matt and the booth and
- 1:28Speaker 1: uh so what are we? What are we thinking here? Now?
- 1:30Speaker 1: It's the turn the page day. Now we fully turn
- 1:33Speaker 1: our attention to the Ravens. A big test coming up,
- 1:39Speaker 1: big test. Just a quick little bit of news. Oh
- 1:40Speaker 1: oh oh, Jordan Schultz, the guy who's kind of on
- 1:43Speaker 1: our like bubble of do we trust him or not?
- 1:45Speaker 1: I think we're starting to trust him, by I don't.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I just want to state for the record, I don't
- 1:48Speaker 1: even know what the news is. He a blue check
- 1:50Speaker 1: mark guy. He's a blue check mark guy. For the score.
- 1:52Speaker 1: He is reporting that dot Terrence Mitchell is getting signed
- 1:55Speaker 1: off of the Patriots practice squad by the Titans, so
- 1:58Speaker 1: he'll he'll head to Tennessee to be on their fifty
- 2:00Speaker 1: three man roster. Tens Mitchell. Okay, not the major but
- 2:03Speaker 1: a little bit of a little bit of a move there. Okay. Next,
- 2:06Speaker 1: their depth of tiny bit. Yeah, yeah, just I mean, no, no, uh,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I don't know who that is. But once you fool
- 2:13Speaker 1: me where we see wrong before a handful of times,
- 2:18Speaker 1: Mike might know the details of the ones, but like
- 2:20Speaker 1: we've we've kind of gotten caught up in some of those,
- 2:24Speaker 1: um and not, wasn't it Sergeant Schultz and said, I
- 2:29Speaker 1: know nothing. Maybe that's the correct perhaps correct. So maybe
- 2:34Speaker 1: he's uh, I don't know, Maybe he's a little bit
- 2:36Speaker 1: more tapped in now and maybe he's got accurate information.
- 2:38Speaker 1: But yeah, I think I think sometimes you feel like
- 2:41Speaker 1: some people just random people start with like sources tell
- 2:43Speaker 1: me like you're just making this up. But I think
- 2:46Speaker 1: he's seems like that's obviously something that will be easy.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Conferrence Mitchell good bye, remember Murray. At one point we
- 2:53Speaker 1: were like, Terrence Mitchell looks like he's gonna be a starter.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I mean he looked like it. I mean it was
- 2:56Speaker 1: him and Malcolm Butler from the from the get go
- 2:58Speaker 1: out there on the on the edges both it was
- 3:01Speaker 1: like the first couple of days of the preseason, We're like, Wow,
- 3:04Speaker 1: should we should we be paying attention to him? All right?
- 3:06Speaker 1: I liked him? No, maybe not, No, he got He
- 3:08Speaker 1: got torched a couple of times in the preseason, but
- 3:10Speaker 1: still made should get into the practice squad. I mean,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I think that the Titans are hurting right now, so yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I could move for them, but we're onto Baltimore. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I think yeah. I mean, looking back a little bit
- 3:21Speaker 1: at the old games, I mean, Lamars is tough. He's tough. Yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 1: there's just an interesting combination of you know how many
- 3:27Speaker 1: tight ends and fullbacks and you know, but the mix
- 3:29Speaker 1: the power and the speed. It's like those are the
- 3:31Speaker 1: two things. You just have that threat. I don't know Bateman,
- 3:35Speaker 1: those guys the receivers not huge, um, you know. And
- 3:40Speaker 1: I kind of liked him. He was kind of injured.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I think he had some injuries, kind of in the
- 3:44Speaker 1: Patriots range. Yeah, I liked I liked him a little bit.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I didn't love him, but I did like him a
- 3:49Speaker 1: little bit. And he I think battled some injuries. He
- 3:51Speaker 1: looks like him and Duverney have given them some big
- 3:55Speaker 1: play ability. I mean they both average. Uh. I mean
- 3:58Speaker 1: it's early, small sample size, but they both that Whige
- 4:00Speaker 1: well over fifteen to can let me just kind of
- 4:04Speaker 1: look at Bateman is Yeah, Bateman's average twenty seven in
- 4:09Speaker 1: Dubernet sixteen. So Duberne had the kickoff return too. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: but you know they have four touchdown I have two
- 4:15Speaker 1: touchdowns each. So they're making big plays and that's whether
- 4:18Speaker 1: you're getting generating their points. Yeah, okay, interesting challenge though,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I mean, how do the Patriots approach them? Maybe it's
- 4:27Speaker 1: Jamie Collins. He was in for a free agency So
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's funny, that's the news I thought you were going
- 4:31Speaker 1: to start. I walked in yesterday morning and I looked
- 4:34Speaker 1: over at my right to the entrance of football and
- 4:37Speaker 1: I thought I saw him walking in with kind of
- 4:38Speaker 1: one of those like hair things that he likes to wear.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And I was like, it couldn't be, couldn't be, But
- 4:45Speaker 1: it was apparently you think it was just a courtesy,
- 4:48Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, he sees me some rounds.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think he took another visit somewhere else. I'm sure
- 4:53Speaker 1: he's making a round, But like for us, do you
- 4:55Speaker 1: think it's like, well, I wonder about you know, something
- 4:58Speaker 1: I talked about yesterday. You know, the guys get banged up.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You know McMillan, you know, was on that injury report,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and I think he had a smaller role. I you know,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I don't know if maybe that those injury problems will
- 5:08Speaker 1: find out today at four who's still on the injury report.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Maybe they're just looking to add some experience. Yeah. A
- 5:16Speaker 1: lot of times, you know, uh, you'll see a guy
- 5:19Speaker 1: get added to the practice squad or you know, or whatever,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and it's a lot of times it's because somebody got
- 5:26Speaker 1: banged up and they want insurance, you know. And now
- 5:29Speaker 1: with I mean with Mitchell signing with with Tennessee, you've
- 5:31Speaker 1: got an open spot on the practice squad, So maybe
- 5:33Speaker 1: that maybe that opens things up for him to get
- 5:35Speaker 1: them back on the roster. I don't know. I'd like
- 5:37Speaker 1: to I mean, I personally no offense that, Jimmy. I'd
- 5:40Speaker 1: like to continue this track you're on with McMillan and
- 5:42Speaker 1: Wilson and mixing the safeties in And the only thing
- 5:45Speaker 1: about Collins, I do think his better days are behind
- 5:48Speaker 1: him as well, but he can still run. He showed
- 5:51Speaker 1: he's still a good athlete last year as opposed to
- 5:54Speaker 1: like high Tower, especially a bit to a lesser extent.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Van Noy, Yeah, right, yeah, I agree. Well it's you know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: when we were that Chargers game, that was on Primetime
- 6:03Speaker 1: Week one and they showed van Noy in the sideline.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, look to see what he does in
- 6:09Speaker 1: this game. I never heard his name once I saw
- 6:11Speaker 1: him out there. Oh he was out there. I didn't
- 6:13Speaker 1: I didn't notice him a ton making a lot of plays,
- 6:16Speaker 1: no Freddy, But I don't know. I like the first
- 6:18Speaker 1: thing I thought about this morning when I heard Jimmy Collins, Oh,
- 6:21Speaker 1: you know, chasing Lamar Jackson around the field. But there's
- 6:24Speaker 1: no way that he would. That would be hard to
- 6:26Speaker 1: imagine that he would have a role on Sunday if
- 6:28Speaker 1: they signed him that quickly, like having done nothing right.
- 6:32Speaker 1: But who knows. But here's the well, yeah, last year
- 6:36Speaker 1: when they just watching Tampa highlights over Mike Shoulder, Richard
- 6:39Speaker 1: Sherman signed and played in the game that week if
- 6:42Speaker 1: I remember, so you know, it's not impossible. But if
- 6:44Speaker 1: if you told me, like of high Tower, Van Noy
- 6:48Speaker 1: and Jamie Collins, who would be the guy that still
- 6:50Speaker 1: wants to keep playing? Like you know, like Jamie Collins
- 6:53Speaker 1: would be the least you know he'd be, Like I
- 6:56Speaker 1: would figure like once he's gone, he's gone, like you know,
- 6:59Speaker 1: but he still wants to play. Football. I get your
- 7:01Speaker 1: point on it, you know what I mean, Like I
- 7:03Speaker 1: mean to so bizarre with him because I can't help
- 7:05Speaker 1: I remember distinctly having this like debate and I think
- 7:08Speaker 1: I wrote about it of who would you pick, like
- 7:11Speaker 1: I think probably circa twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, who would
- 7:14Speaker 1: you pick high Tower or Collins to keep one of them?
- 7:16Speaker 1: You know, because I think that was like one of
- 7:18Speaker 1: the debates of them coming up. I think they came
- 7:20Speaker 1: up the same year perhaps, um, you know, and but
- 7:24Speaker 1: but he's been here three times now, so like, is
- 7:26Speaker 1: there is there a universe where they just kept them
- 7:28Speaker 1: the whole time, retained him, like he didn't keep going
- 7:30Speaker 1: on these little so jourans to other other teams are
- 7:33Speaker 1: a little bit, and then they come back and they
- 7:35Speaker 1: pay him, and then he goes they come back and
- 7:37Speaker 1: pay him. I think he's mercurial, Yeah, you know, I
- 7:39Speaker 1: think I think they're enamored with any any given day
- 7:42Speaker 1: he has a different attitude toward the game and the
- 7:44Speaker 1: team he's on. I think they see him as just
- 7:46Speaker 1: an athletic freak, and that's will always be tantalizing to them.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But my day is about to go sideways with Bill,
- 7:51Speaker 1: we're in a red hoodie right now, which, oh my god,
- 7:54Speaker 1: can't even imagine. Well, are you triggered in a little bit,
- 7:57Speaker 1: I'm bothering. Your database doesn't cover press conferences. No, no,
- 8:01Speaker 1: But but we haven't seen a red hoodie since the game.
- 8:04Speaker 1: There hasn't been a single. There hasn't been. He did
- 8:06Speaker 1: wear one before, which uh to two thousand and seven
- 8:10Speaker 1: and the Super Bowl, super Bowl forty two. I didn't
- 8:12Speaker 1: want it other times since then? Can you check can
- 8:15Speaker 1: you check your notes? I don't need to check it
- 8:17Speaker 1: on this one. It's but he had I mean, he
- 8:20Speaker 1: had worn red I know, but this is like, I mean,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you know, anytime I do the hoodie nonsense, people are like, well,
- 8:27Speaker 1: just those longers. There's no red one, you know. But
- 8:29Speaker 1: I still remember the Super forty super Bowl forty two
- 8:32Speaker 1: he came out in this red hoodie. That was and
- 8:35Speaker 1: now he'll like cut the sleeves off where it's like
- 8:37Speaker 1: even beyond a short sleeve that one he had last
- 8:40Speaker 1: week or it was like like a mid cut. Yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 1: but that was the first time you saw him, were like,
- 8:44Speaker 1: this is way too short, this doesn't look right. It
- 8:45Speaker 1: was going on. That was like, yeah, perfect I think
- 8:51Speaker 1: like he got torn in something and it was like
- 8:54Speaker 1: he had a he had a hand his butt to
- 8:56Speaker 1: Nick Folk on the way to the care holders. Yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 1: so I don't know. It's just it's funny. He hasn't
- 9:03Speaker 1: he hasn't worn red since, so I don't know. What
- 9:05Speaker 1: do you think the message is? Then, I'm not afraid red.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Everybody talks about Balton was not afraid when they play offs. Well,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'm not afraid either. I'm gonna wear red. I want Well,
- 9:17Speaker 1: if he comes back tomorrow with it all of a
- 9:19Speaker 1: sudden cut off, then we'll then we'll really press the
- 9:21Speaker 1: panic but it. But I'm sure my mentions will be
- 9:23Speaker 1: quite I hope they haven't been stock because he moves
- 9:26Speaker 1: the needle for the pro shop, so people see them.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I gotta get me one of them. I think Bill
- 9:30Speaker 1: moves the needle. I think do smoove telling you what
- 9:33Speaker 1: Bill's wearing. My needle moves when I see man, it's
- 9:38Speaker 1: a good turn. See those arms. I'm the color Bill's hoodie.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Oh now I got Patriots pr checking in what's his
- 9:51Speaker 1: results like in red? Never seen him in red before.
- 9:54Speaker 1: That's stuff stuff sending me a text. So this is
- 9:59Speaker 1: like Yeah, this is getting traction, right, I think it is. Well,
- 10:03Speaker 1: last week when Bill had on the crew neck navy
- 10:07Speaker 1: cut off, Duce could not come up to the cubes faster,
- 10:10Speaker 1: be like, you know the last time he wore that
- 10:12Speaker 1: last time this game. So I think, I mean that's
- 10:15Speaker 1: creating a buzz. I'm sorry, Like he hadn't worn that
- 10:18Speaker 1: specific piece of clothing in three years since. If this
- 10:24Speaker 1: was a team that like wanted to have a little fun,
- 10:28Speaker 1: like they would let us, like you know, show him
- 10:31Speaker 1: picking out what he's gonna wear that day, Like what
- 10:34Speaker 1: is the process? I just I want to like look
- 10:36Speaker 1: at Bears and be like, I know you're going through
- 10:38Speaker 1: the database being like, what is his record with this? Right?
- 10:41Speaker 1: Just like he's hanging it up for him. Do you
- 10:42Speaker 1: think there was a process? No? And that could be
- 10:45Speaker 1: the funny part of it. Oh No, you know, I'm
- 10:47Speaker 1: fascinated by just it's like like there's some equipment guy
- 10:51Speaker 1: that says, I know, whatever I put in front of him,
- 10:53Speaker 1: he's gonna wear, like and so they they they are
- 10:56Speaker 1: the ones that actually decide what he's gonna you know
- 10:59Speaker 1: like whatever, Yeah, but continuing to out sweat. Yes, that's
- 11:05Speaker 1: why that's I just pick here a pile, yeah, and
- 11:07Speaker 1: he just grabs one, kind of like will That's why
- 11:10Speaker 1: I think it would be funny. Is like the video
- 11:12Speaker 1: I think would be like, you know, me an investigator reporter,
- 11:15Speaker 1: like how do they do it? You know? And then
- 11:16Speaker 1: the climax is just like I don't know, they're just
- 11:18Speaker 1: on a pilot. Like it's like there's no pilot. But
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of things you could do
- 11:23Speaker 1: with that if oh, you're allowed to well, I think, uh,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you know, I had talked to Maury at some point
- 11:27Speaker 1: about like you know this, and I said, maybe you
- 11:29Speaker 1: do like a fun math. I know, stem is a
- 11:32Speaker 1: big thing in the Hall of Fame of like maybe
- 11:33Speaker 1: you do a little video game where you picked the
- 11:36Speaker 1: hoodie which hoodie should bill war against this team? In
- 11:39Speaker 1: this game we're in the super Bowl against this team.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Should you pick ABC or D based on you know,
- 11:43Speaker 1: Oh no, you picked the one with cut sleeves, he's
- 11:45Speaker 1: he's winless and super Bowl was cut right, which was
- 11:48Speaker 1: the big takeaway of the hoodie database. But that would
- 11:50Speaker 1: be good that that's not a bad like pick the
- 11:52Speaker 1: hoodie kind of thing. We could do that, Um, why
- 11:54Speaker 1: don't we do that, like you choose and based on
- 11:57Speaker 1: your database that what's the right, how good are you
- 12:00Speaker 1: and deciding yeah, what what are you? What you're doing?
- 12:03Speaker 1: I like it, let's do it, Let's do it. What
- 12:05Speaker 1: is it? Absolutely not? Yeah, it's but that the one
- 12:10Speaker 1: big takeaway, of course, from the hoodie daty base with
- 12:12Speaker 1: every time he's had cut sleeves in the Super Bowl,
- 12:14Speaker 1: they've lost every time. Okay, the other times they've all
- 12:17Speaker 1: been intact. They they've they've managed, Which is so funny
- 12:19Speaker 1: because the cut ones are the ones he's synonymous with. Right,
- 12:23Speaker 1: I was him for Halloween and college ones and cut
- 12:26Speaker 1: off the hoodie. Did you have like the whole personality
- 12:28Speaker 1: and everything the whole night, Like you were kind of
- 12:29Speaker 1: wearing it, Like I had on like some white tall
- 12:31Speaker 1: tube socks, new balances. There's got to be a picture somewhere.
- 12:34Speaker 1: But you weren't sexy Bill bell check or oh no no,
- 12:37Speaker 1: I was ragged like bonn at the top of my head.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I had on like a journalist, like I stole something
- 12:42Speaker 1: from the journalism department, like a headset and Paul got
- 12:46Speaker 1: them in his office. The headsets. Yeah, yeah, I have one.
- 12:50Speaker 1: T J dressed up as Belichick for his oral report
- 12:54Speaker 1: biography that he had to do in school. And he
- 12:56Speaker 1: had the sweatshirt, the head the headsets with I love
- 13:00Speaker 1: the baby Halloween costumes where they just the babies yeahs
- 13:03Speaker 1: like Bill or Andy Reid or something. Yeah, and the
- 13:06Speaker 1: Andy Reid's one. Every baby looks like Andy Reid without
- 13:12Speaker 1: a mustache. Right. The Andy Reid guy in Kansas City
- 13:14Speaker 1: is unbelievable. Do you ever see the guy who looks
- 13:17Speaker 1: yea that goes to the game, Yeah, yeah, yeah, he
- 13:19Speaker 1: looks like Andy Reid more than Andy Reid does. You
- 13:22Speaker 1: just need to be a fat redhead and girl mustache.
- 13:24Speaker 1: You're all say, throw some glasses on, all right, some
- 13:26Speaker 1: of those hood shields. So Bill is rock in a
- 13:28Speaker 1: red hoodie today. That's big news. That's that's really big news.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I didn't realize we were going to get fifteen minutes
- 13:34Speaker 1: out of that, but we did. Yeah. I wish we
- 13:36Speaker 1: could like text a beat writer right now and be like, hey,
- 13:38Speaker 1: why don't you ask him about this? Oh no, But
- 13:40Speaker 1: if Chris Ferrera's listen, we're gonna do. We'll take your database,
- 13:44Speaker 1: we'll dump it into an engine engine and then we'll
- 13:47Speaker 1: people will you know, be choose and see how good
- 13:50Speaker 1: you are. Yeah. Yeah, And there's lots of lots of
- 13:53Speaker 1: ways you can go with it. You can design a
- 13:54Speaker 1: lot of a lot of questions. You know, against the Jets,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you got so much sample size on the divisional opponents,
- 13:58Speaker 1: you know you could get, and then you break down
- 14:00Speaker 1: the percentages of you know what what you got? Right?
- 14:03Speaker 1: I like it? Okay? Journalism, Yeah, important important work we're
- 14:08Speaker 1: doing here. Well, that's social media. Got a check mark,
- 14:12Speaker 1: Alex after year, I need to ask you a question
- 14:14Speaker 1: about journalism. Remind me of that. Okay, when did it die? No?
- 14:18Speaker 1: I did. I don't want twenty sixteen. It's about a
- 14:21Speaker 1: specific person, so I don't want to talk about it
- 14:23Speaker 1: on the year. Oh okay, all right, got it? All right?
- 14:26Speaker 1: What else? Um? I feel like there's an NFL thing
- 14:29Speaker 1: that I wanted to bring up. Um, well, I forget
- 14:34Speaker 1: Evans suspended? Held up? That really surprising. The Bill's offensive
- 14:38Speaker 1: lineman got suspended two for trying to throw a punch
- 14:40Speaker 1: at a player and hitting your coach. Yeah, that was
- 14:42Speaker 1: like in the hallway, right, Bobby Hard Bobby Hart here, Yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 1: one of the hot brothers. Actually, there's a lot of
- 14:50Speaker 1: hearts and evert and there was a Bobby Hart. Was
- 14:52Speaker 1: it the Treiland stuff? Danny's brother Danny, not his brother
- 14:56Speaker 1: in law, Danny Ross's brother in law. Oh I think
- 14:59Speaker 1: I think Paul actually issue a correction. Oh I do.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I screwed something up yesterday. Oh um. And you know
- 15:05Speaker 1: how I hate making errors. When I was talking about
- 15:08Speaker 1: that Cardinals Raiders overtime game and the Cardinals guy that
- 15:11Speaker 1: had the scoop and score, yeah, and he threw the
- 15:14Speaker 1: ball right as he was getting into the end zone.
- 15:16Speaker 1: And I said, if the officials ruled that he was
- 15:18Speaker 1: outside of the you know, there would have been a safety,
- 15:21Speaker 1: would have been a touchback. That's what I said immediately.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I said, they'd have the ball in the twenty and
- 15:24Speaker 1: no one. I didn't hear no one. Let me. Let
- 15:27Speaker 1: me apologize doubly then, because I did not hear you
- 15:31Speaker 1: say that. But I was corrected on Twitter, and I
- 15:34Speaker 1: just wanted to make sure that I, you know, acknowledged
- 15:36Speaker 1: my mistake. Okay, too few guys in the media do that, Alex.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I see drinking that's celsius. Is that the new thing now?
- 15:45Speaker 1: Is it an energy drink? It's supposed to be like
- 15:47Speaker 1: a healthier energy drink. I'm not an energy drink person,
- 15:52Speaker 1: but I saw these had to check them out. It's decent, Okay.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I heard them talking in on the radio yesterday that
- 15:59Speaker 1: someone was I'm gonna down to Celsius. Yeah. On probably
- 16:03Speaker 1: shouldn't be talking about it since they're not a sponsors.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Not a sponsor, but seven Essential Vitamins. It's like a
- 16:07Speaker 1: green tea energy drink. No ask for Team Paul, oh good,
- 16:12Speaker 1: No preservatives, no artificial crap. I don't know. I drank
- 16:16Speaker 1: this after a coffee and I kind of feel like
- 16:19Speaker 1: I imagine like being on coke at work would be
- 16:22Speaker 1: like just like you'd get a lot done. I don't know.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I'm just bouncing off the walls. Just all right. Getting
- 16:32Speaker 1: back to this game. Getting back to this game. Do
- 16:34Speaker 1: we have an early line? Oh? I don't. I can
- 16:38Speaker 1: know that, though I can check it. You mean the
- 16:40Speaker 1: actual line. Yeah, Ravens by three, Ravens by three, so
- 16:43Speaker 1: it's an even it's a pick them. No, it's really
- 16:47Speaker 1: Ravens by six. No, you get three when you're at home, correct,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and they're still underdogs by three. Oh, so you're right.
- 16:54Speaker 1: So there's Ravens by six. That's all that. I know
- 16:58Speaker 1: I made a mistake yesterday, friend, but I'm not gonna
- 17:01Speaker 1: make a habit. So really it's Ravens by six. Yes.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I think the the question I'm kind of wondering is
- 17:08Speaker 1: Ken the Patriots take advantage of what has in two
- 17:11Speaker 1: weeks been a suspect Ravens past. You know, secondary that
- 17:15Speaker 1: is a lot more talented on paper than how they
- 17:17Speaker 1: played these first couple of games. So that's trying to
- 17:20Speaker 1: resign how you know, how can they exploit that Ken? They?
- 17:23Speaker 1: I mean? And I also think like people were like, well,
- 17:25Speaker 1: the Ravens are gonna be mad, They're gonna be mad
- 17:27Speaker 1: they lost. They're I'm like, they come in here and
- 17:29Speaker 1: play hard, they do that much difference is gonna make Yeah,
- 17:32Speaker 1: they do. Um. But I do think that when you
- 17:35Speaker 1: have a game like that, you know, you want to
- 17:38Speaker 1: make sure that, you know, you come out the next
- 17:40Speaker 1: week ready to go. So I do think that there
- 17:42Speaker 1: was an added motivation for the Ravens this week. Hardbars
- 17:46Speaker 1: there coach, He's got a lot of experience here. They
- 17:50Speaker 1: do have that reputation that nothing you know, uh threat,
- 17:54Speaker 1: you know what you McCall, I don't know what the
- 17:58Speaker 1: word is, but they're not afraid when they come in here.
- 18:00Speaker 1: But that was really more to do with Brady than
- 18:03Speaker 1: anything else. This isn't the team that you know, people
- 18:06Speaker 1: are afraid of. As a matter of fact, what I
- 18:09Speaker 1: was gonna do is, and maybe Paul knows this off
- 18:11Speaker 1: the top of my head, what is the Patriots home
- 18:14Speaker 1: record since nineteen? So nineteen twenty twenty one? What is
- 18:19Speaker 1: our home record? And I'll bet you it's not that good.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I mean as it. You know, it used to be
- 18:24Speaker 1: the Patriots don't lose at home? Yeah, from what year?
- 18:27Speaker 1: From nineteen? The last three years, not including this year,
- 18:31Speaker 1: nineteen twenty and twenty one. A lot of oxygen being
- 18:34Speaker 1: taken up in the studio. Now, I'd like to know
- 18:36Speaker 1: what our home record is. Paul's gonna get all the
- 18:39Speaker 1: way I'm looking, I'm looking up, I'm making fun of
- 18:41Speaker 1: and it's gonna get right up to the point you
- 18:43Speaker 1: wanted to start at and then realize that it starts
- 18:45Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen. You're not gonna get any of the stats.
- 18:47Speaker 1: He actually, well, this is the nineteen media guys, I
- 18:51Speaker 1: thought this was the twenty. That's not gonna do any
- 18:53Speaker 1: good anyway. Oh, who's screwing up the books now, Paul,
- 18:55Speaker 1: huh huh huh. Yeah, we need to get a new
- 18:58Speaker 1: media chastire accord. They're fifteen and ten at home since
- 19:05Speaker 1: twenty nineteen. Yeah, so for the Patriots, that's not that's great.
- 19:08Speaker 1: That's terrible. Yeah, for the for a team like the Patriots,
- 19:11Speaker 1: that's terrible. Yeah. I mean, like Cleveland would be happy
- 19:13Speaker 1: with that, right, Patriots wouldn't be. You know. So it's
- 19:16Speaker 1: probably didn't lose ten home games and between so five
- 19:20Speaker 1: and fifteen. So and remember that includes the last year
- 19:23Speaker 1: Brady was here, when they started out eight no, and
- 19:25Speaker 1: probably half of those were wins at home, you know.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So I'm putting that season in there. I imagine if
- 19:31Speaker 1: you just did last year and twenty and twenty, it'd
- 19:34Speaker 1: be even worse. Yeah, you know, especially like what's what's
- 19:38Speaker 1: that inflection line? There's always like one point. Maybe it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: like post Baltimore game, that's where everybody starts the record
- 19:42Speaker 1: of like, well they're only five hundred and the last
- 19:44Speaker 1: you know, well, it's halfway through the nineteen season. They
- 19:47Speaker 1: went five and four or four and five, I think
- 19:49Speaker 1: it was four and five. There they was the most
- 19:51Speaker 1: miserable eight, No, guy, right, right, So from that they
- 19:54Speaker 1: went four and five the rest of that year, then
- 19:56Speaker 1: they went seven and nine, then they went ten and
- 19:58Speaker 1: seven and now one and one. So like that's where people,
- 20:02Speaker 1: you know a lot of times they use that record. Yep. Um,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I mean I would just kind of separate it from
- 20:08Speaker 1: the nineteen season and go post Brady. Yeah, But I
- 20:11Speaker 1: just think my my overall point is that home is
- 20:13Speaker 1: not as big as an advantage as it used to
- 20:16Speaker 1: be for the Patriots. Oh yeah, no fans, I mean
- 20:21Speaker 1: you know, I know what your point is saying, Well,
- 20:23Speaker 1: you know it's a little bit different. Yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 20:26Speaker 1: What am I talking about? But still the familiarity of
- 20:29Speaker 1: being in your own locker room. And I mean, in
- 20:31Speaker 1: all seriousness, do you think if Brady was the quarterback
- 20:33Speaker 1: in twenty twenty they would have gone seven and nine?
- 20:35Speaker 1: All right? So lately wouldn't have to overthink this? Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So you know it's Ravens coming in here, you know,
- 20:45Speaker 1: as a three point favorite in our place. That tells
- 20:49Speaker 1: you everything you need to significant, I think because it's
- 20:52Speaker 1: you don't ever see the Patriots underdogs um at home
- 20:55Speaker 1: ever ever, and then you don't really see them underdogs
- 20:58Speaker 1: a lot period. Now do you have the handle? I
- 21:01Speaker 1: do not have the handle. I got that for you
- 21:02Speaker 1: last night, I know. I sent it to you after
- 21:04Speaker 1: the boy Ryan Hannibal, Um, you know, happened to tweet
- 21:07Speaker 1: that out and I saw it and I said, Fred
- 21:09Speaker 1: needs this information. Yeah, and that was probably comforting for
- 21:12Speaker 1: you because all the money was on the Patriots, That's right.
- 21:15Speaker 1: You know. I'd liked to what did the sharps know,
- 21:17Speaker 1: like what the handle is? How how many people are
- 21:19Speaker 1: betting on the game, and then who was betting on what? Yeah? Yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: well our you know, our gambling guy, Brian, who's been
- 21:26Speaker 1: writing that he did pretty good this week, Brian four
- 21:28Speaker 1: and one. He went four and one, and his in
- 21:29Speaker 1: his picks nice and the only one he missed was
- 21:31Speaker 1: Stevenson having more than two catches? Any think he had one?
- 21:36Speaker 1: So it was it was pretty close. So he did,
- 21:37Speaker 1: he did pretty good. He's what do he goes? First week?
- 21:40Speaker 1: Three and two? So pretty good picks from gambling? Right? Gambling? Right?
- 21:44Speaker 1: Good idea by me. Yeah, as they put me out
- 21:47Speaker 1: to pastor jobs. Why don't you let our listeners know
- 21:49Speaker 1: exactly what you're talking here? Sure? Well, Brian Hines, who
- 21:51Speaker 1: has done some writing in the past for Pat's Pulpit,
- 21:54Speaker 1: and we've had him just doing a weekly you know,
- 21:56Speaker 1: gambling highlight of what the Patriots are doing. Paul's Paul's
- 21:59Speaker 1: Brillian idea. I should I should point out he I
- 22:01Speaker 1: don't know how brilliant that was. Well, Brian, he was
- 22:03Speaker 1: my idea. He came in and we talked to him
- 22:05Speaker 1: a lot about, you know, just using more advanced stats
- 22:07Speaker 1: and stuff to really hone in on the Patriots. I
- 22:09Speaker 1: think he's done a good job. I mean, just really
- 22:11Speaker 1: specific Patriots bet So if you're Patriots fan looking you know,
- 22:14Speaker 1: for things to bet, not necessarily always on the Patriots,
- 22:17Speaker 1: but just as far as the games go. Um, through
- 22:19Speaker 1: two weeks, he's had some some good picks. So those
- 22:21Speaker 1: will come out every Thursday, and yeah, check him out
- 22:24Speaker 1: and then maybe maybe put some money on it. Says
- 22:25Speaker 1: we can't bet, we don't. We're not going to write that.
- 22:27Speaker 1: We'll let somebody who can. Right, I have a certificate
- 22:29Speaker 1: in my office that prus that I can't bet. I
- 22:31Speaker 1: took you can't bet that, you can write about it.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I took the question that made the trips to the
- 22:35Speaker 1: new office. You haven't framed it yet, though you can
- 22:36Speaker 1: talk about it. Yeah, right next to your BU degree.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah that and you're gambling. I don't have my pet.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I don't have my diploma here. I got my gambling certifications.
- 22:47Speaker 1: When you got into the Hall of Fame there, did
- 22:49Speaker 1: they give you a ring? Do you get like a
- 22:51Speaker 1: hall of fame get a ring? You didn't get a
- 22:53Speaker 1: What do they give you? I don't It was like jacket,
- 22:56Speaker 1: what did they give you? I don't remember? You don't remember.
- 22:58Speaker 1: That's an honor pufflink. This is the best day of
- 23:00Speaker 1: you're life writing, he doesn't remember. It wasn't the best
- 23:03Speaker 1: day in my life. Okay, the birth of your children,
- 23:05Speaker 1: your your marriage, jos Jo Sing. Definitely get in the
- 23:12Speaker 1: BU Hall of Fame with like Harry aganis like who
- 23:15Speaker 1: else is in there? Again? I mean the BU Baseball
- 23:18Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, not the BU Athletics Hall of Fame
- 23:21Speaker 1: where Harry Againnis resides, although he's probably in the Baseball
- 23:25Speaker 1: Hall of Fame too, right, Um, that's right, it's a
- 23:28Speaker 1: big difference. Well, but no ring, no ring, because I
- 23:32Speaker 1: noticed you know Tippet he wears his he loves his
- 23:34Speaker 1: Hall of Fame ring. Yeah, Well, you know, why wouldn't you,
- 23:37Speaker 1: right right? I think I got some sort of uh
- 23:40Speaker 1: like like a hat. Yeah, you like like paper what
- 23:44Speaker 1: are the like paperweight? Paper? A little little thing? What
- 23:46Speaker 1: are those things called paperweight? But you know what I'm
- 23:49Speaker 1: talking about, Like one of those little things, that's the paperweight.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Now it's got a little thing emblem on it, like
- 23:54Speaker 1: the thing the thing that we all got for the
- 23:56Speaker 1: Not Done network. Yeah, oh those are called dumb What
- 23:59Speaker 1: is the what about you the name for that? Yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 1: it's the capstones. Okay, well something like that would have
- 24:04Speaker 1: more news, a little bit of news. No, this one
- 24:08Speaker 1: actually coming from IronPort sources, the writers. The Raiders are
- 24:14Speaker 1: trading for Patriots offensive tackle Justin Harn with the team's
- 24:19Speaker 1: flipping picks in twenty twenty four, getting some solid tackle depth.
- 24:22Speaker 1: So I like this, I like, I like, I'm gonna
- 24:26Speaker 1: go back to your theory. Yeah, when you see moves
- 24:30Speaker 1: that get made and you start wondering why we signed
- 24:34Speaker 1: on the practice squad last week, Marcus Cannon. Marcus Cannon,
- 24:37Speaker 1: So now we don't need Justin Harn is expendable, okay,
- 24:42Speaker 1: and the Raiders obviously needed some depth there because I
- 24:45Speaker 1: gotta be honest. When I saw yesterday that we had
- 24:47Speaker 1: made a transaction on the practice squad involving the tight ends,
- 24:51Speaker 1: helped me out due be left and we signed. Oh shoot,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I just yeah, it's like Johnny. But when I saw
- 24:58Speaker 1: that we had made a trans action on the practice squad,
- 25:01Speaker 1: my first thought was they brought in Marcus Cannon, see
- 25:04Speaker 1: if he had anything left, and he's going yeah, And
- 25:07Speaker 1: then it didn't involve him, So I was like, oh, okay,
- 25:09Speaker 1: So you know, sometimes that happened Scotty Washington, not Johnny
- 25:12Speaker 1: Scotty Scotty another practice squad. So I wonder if maybe
- 25:16Speaker 1: they're comfortable that, you know, Cannon's here, spent a couple
- 25:20Speaker 1: of days, you know, maybe a couple of days in
- 25:22Speaker 1: the practice squad, goes through you know, handful of workouts here,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and they'd be comfortable elevating him as the as the
- 25:28Speaker 1: third tackle, or if they're you know, happy with just
- 25:32Speaker 1: and he'll be the third tackle and Cannon is strictly
- 25:35Speaker 1: insurance for you know, beyond that, yeah, I don't know,
- 25:37Speaker 1: but either way, I would say that Justin Hran had
- 25:40Speaker 1: a really tough summer. Um I thought he struggled in
- 25:44Speaker 1: every preseason game that he appeared in and was on
- 25:47Speaker 1: and off the field with injuries. Not overly surprised by this,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and the fact that the Raiders are really uh, I mean,
- 25:55Speaker 1: I think a Luminore Jermaine, a luminoar I think was
- 25:58Speaker 1: starting at right tackle for them. So they have some
- 26:01Speaker 1: issues up front, all right? Confused with I want a
- 26:06Speaker 1: brand new five five past five hundred eight? Five five
- 26:09Speaker 1: past five hundred is the a sticket hut line web
- 26:12Speaker 1: radio at Patriots dot com is the email address? Got
- 26:16Speaker 1: a lot of emails coming in, So why don't we
- 26:19Speaker 1: read some of those? Let's see Jack writes in from Annaba.
- 26:24Speaker 1: He says during yesterday's show, the PU crew mentioned that
- 26:28Speaker 1: some fans and members of the media have already concluded
- 26:30Speaker 1: that mac Jones is a failure and are calling for
- 26:32Speaker 1: the Patriots to find another quarterback. Let's put things in perspective.
- 26:36Speaker 1: In his rookie season last year, Mac Jones started and
- 26:39Speaker 1: had the best season of any rookie quarterback in the league. Now,
- 26:42Speaker 1: in his second season, Mac may not appear to have
- 26:45Speaker 1: improved as much as some would hope, but he is
- 26:47Speaker 1: leading a team with a new offensive system, new offensive coaches,
- 26:51Speaker 1: and question marks along the offensive line and at receiver. Moreover,
- 26:55Speaker 1: opposing defensive coordinators have had an entire season to study
- 26:59Speaker 1: the video of Mat to devise new approaches to defend him.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Back in the old days, rookies didn't start a quarterback.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Blah blah blah. Trying to think if there's anything, um,
- 27:09Speaker 1: we all need to be patient and give Mac a
- 27:11Speaker 1: fair chance to develop during the next two seasons. I
- 27:14Speaker 1: am enjoying watching Mac grow along with the many promising
- 27:17Speaker 1: young players on this team. Well, I agree, I mean,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I agree with some you know, some patience. But his
- 27:23Speaker 1: last line was I'm enjoying watching Matt grow, not Mac grow.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I know you grow, but what what like? What what
- 27:33Speaker 1: have you most enjoyed about his couplin Like? For me,
- 27:35Speaker 1: it feels like he's kind of stagnated since you know,
- 27:37Speaker 1: middle of There's a couple of things there too. First,
- 27:39Speaker 1: we talked about this yesterday. I think that you would
- 27:41Speaker 1: identified Joe Murray on the Morning Show was the guy
- 27:44Speaker 1: who said he's not sure that Mac is the answer, right,
- 27:47Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah. I did a little bit more research
- 27:49Speaker 1: on this, and I can't find anybody else. I don't know.
- 27:51Speaker 1: There was an email we got to the show this morning,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and he's like going over a holy Cross quarterback that
- 27:57Speaker 1: we should be looking at. And I'm I'm I'm not
- 27:59Speaker 1: reading now, I'm not writing it. I'm not telling you
- 28:02Speaker 1: that I haven't heard phone call. I haven't heard calls
- 28:04Speaker 1: and I have Luca. I've heard people say I'm not
- 28:07Speaker 1: sure this is the guy. But I'm talking about the media.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Around here, it's been very much firmly on Max side
- 28:13Speaker 1: in terms of this whole offensive setup. It's not fair
- 28:17Speaker 1: to him. They don't have enough weapons, they don't have
- 28:18Speaker 1: a structure around him. He's being hung out to dry. Okay,
- 28:21Speaker 1: that's the vast majority of the opinion around here. The
- 28:24Speaker 1: second part of that is, I don't care if he
- 28:26Speaker 1: was the best, worst, or third of the rookie class
- 28:30Speaker 1: last year. Was he good and are you convinced that
- 28:33Speaker 1: he will be even better moving forward? That's all I
- 28:36Speaker 1: care about. I mean, one of the guys didn't play
- 28:39Speaker 1: last year, another guy only played half the year, and
- 28:41Speaker 1: another guy played for urban Meyer. I mean, what did
- 28:44Speaker 1: he exactly accomplished by being the best of the rookie
- 28:47Speaker 1: quarterbacks last year? Right? It was a low bar for
- 28:50Speaker 1: that year. So yeah, I want to see him wasn't
- 28:53Speaker 1: exactly nineteen eighty three, right, I want to see him.
- 28:55Speaker 1: To Mike's point, show me that he took the base
- 28:58Speaker 1: that he got last year, which I think we all
- 29:00Speaker 1: agree was promising, right. I thought he had a promising
- 29:03Speaker 1: rookie year and then build on that. So far, we
- 29:06Speaker 1: haven't really seen that progress for a variety of reasons
- 29:09Speaker 1: that aren't all his faults. I have a long commute,
- 29:12Speaker 1: so I get to think a lot, and yesterday I
- 29:15Speaker 1: was thinking about Max's rookie season, and then I was
- 29:18Speaker 1: thinking about Peyton Manning's rookie season, and Manning had a
- 29:23Speaker 1: ton of interceptions, and I was thinking to myself, is
- 29:27Speaker 1: it a bad thing that they kind of kept Mac
- 29:31Speaker 1: in a box his rookie season and in other words,
- 29:34Speaker 1: don't make mistakes, don't make mistakes, whereas Manning was like,
- 29:37Speaker 1: we know you're good, go ahead, just figure out what
- 29:40Speaker 1: you just just sling it. And so I'm wondering, like,
- 29:45Speaker 1: did Mac really never have a rookie season? He was
- 29:47Speaker 1: never allowed to have a rookie season, you know what
- 29:50Speaker 1: I mean in terms of just going out there and
- 29:52Speaker 1: making mistakes and getting them out of your system and
- 29:55Speaker 1: understanding what you can and can't do, you know, because
- 29:58Speaker 1: like you could say, hey, that match rookie season, by
- 30:01Speaker 1: the numbers was better than Peyton Manning's rookie season, and
- 30:04Speaker 1: it was right, you know, statistically it was. Statistically it was.
- 30:08Speaker 1: But is that because the way the Colts allowed Manning
- 30:12Speaker 1: to play, whereas we bottled up Mac you know, just
- 30:16Speaker 1: do this, be careful blah blah blah. Did that actually
- 30:20Speaker 1: stunt his growth a little bit? I don't know. I
- 30:22Speaker 1: just I think you could make conversations I was having
- 30:25Speaker 1: with this. You know, I would be to fly on
- 30:28Speaker 1: the wall of conversations among themselves. You know, I think
- 30:33Speaker 1: you could make an argument for that. But I also
- 30:34Speaker 1: would would wonder to further you a point, do they
- 30:40Speaker 1: treat him like that? Because I think they're still treating
- 30:42Speaker 1: him like right they might be. Do they treat him
- 30:44Speaker 1: like that because they watch practice every day? Yeah, and
- 30:47Speaker 1: they know that's how they need to treat him. Yeah,
- 30:50Speaker 1: Like if we allow him to do some of the
- 30:52Speaker 1: things that Peyton Manning did, boy, it's it's gonna get ugly.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I don't again, Yeah, I don't know that to be
- 30:58Speaker 1: the case. But I heard Colin Coward talk about that
- 31:01Speaker 1: you know, they ran the ball the last six and
- 31:04Speaker 1: a half minutes because that's what they felt was best
- 31:06Speaker 1: for them to win the game, because they don't necessarily
- 31:09Speaker 1: know that the other guy can go out and do
- 31:12Speaker 1: what Brady did so many times in those situations and
- 31:15Speaker 1: throw four times for first downs. Right again, I'm not
- 31:18Speaker 1: telling you that's right. I'm just saying that that's another
- 31:21Speaker 1: point of view. By the way, there's there's still a
- 31:23Speaker 1: debate about whether or not in that six and a
- 31:25Speaker 1: half minute dried they were using the zone runs or
- 31:28Speaker 1: just the old Patriots offense runs. We'll find out from
- 31:31Speaker 1: Eze when he comes in after one. Yeah, Ted Johnson,
- 31:34Speaker 1: who actually played, thinks that they did use some I mean,
- 31:38Speaker 1: he didn't think it was extensive. But because he's on
- 31:41Speaker 1: with me later, all right, we'll give me the evidence. Like,
- 31:43Speaker 1: why do you say that? Because this guy was doing so,
- 31:45Speaker 1: I'll be curious to talk to him. I just was
- 31:47Speaker 1: going by the emails this morning that we had for
- 31:49Speaker 1: pre show. Oh, no Mike and Tony today, just Mike
- 31:53Speaker 1: and Teddy. No, no, Tony Okay. Evidently, yeah, we'll see.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Teddy had a lot of thoughts. I'll be interested to
- 32:00Speaker 1: see how this goes. When I get there, I've got
- 32:02Speaker 1: a lot of muscles. Yeah. Really, it's like it's like press.
- 32:06Speaker 1: When he's a training camp, it's always like an obligatory
- 32:09Speaker 1: like looking for the gym. Ted, Well, I always go
- 32:11Speaker 1: with your skipped arm day today. Well he had a
- 32:14Speaker 1: whole thing yesterday. Yeah, Tuesday morning he was on he
- 32:18Speaker 1: was talking about he still goes to the gym a lot. Yeah,
- 32:20Speaker 1: and he goes to this like really spartan gym up
- 32:23Speaker 1: in brain Tree where it's like in a garage. It's
- 32:26Speaker 1: like your old spartan Yeah, rusty waits and all that stuff.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Love it. You know. I still work on the chest.
- 32:33Speaker 1: You know, bench press is my favorite. You might want
- 32:37Speaker 1: to like start thinking about like, you know, functional, I'd
- 32:40Speaker 1: love to see yoga Ted Johnson, like like Evalls and
- 32:43Speaker 1: he's like, I'm not lifting anymore. I got into yoga.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I'm really sentera, like all stretched out and thin. But yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 1: so I like that though, Fred, And I mean I think, look,
- 32:55Speaker 1: I think the emailer is is, you know, the most
- 32:58Speaker 1: important thing is trying to get to develop and you know,
- 33:01Speaker 1: to nurture him here in the second year, and I
- 33:03Speaker 1: don't think you can talk about Mac without the elephant
- 33:06Speaker 1: in the room of the transition on offense, and you
- 33:08Speaker 1: know some of the changes on the offensive line that
- 33:10Speaker 1: were that were difficult. But you know, at the same time,
- 33:12Speaker 1: like this is the NFL and you have got teams
- 33:15Speaker 1: like Buffalo in your division and you saw what Miami
- 33:17Speaker 1: did last week. Like, if you want to be a
- 33:19Speaker 1: competitive team right now in the NFL, like you need
- 33:21Speaker 1: a plus quarterback who can make plays no matter what
- 33:24Speaker 1: the situation is, can bring it back, you know, And
- 33:27Speaker 1: I'm all for like nurturing him and giving him a
- 33:29Speaker 1: chance and letting him grow. But like at a certain point,
- 33:33Speaker 1: at that time is over and you need to produce
- 33:35Speaker 1: on the field and you need to start making some
- 33:36Speaker 1: significant strides. And you know this year we need like
- 33:39Speaker 1: I want to say, a signature win, but you know,
- 33:41Speaker 1: you need one of those wins where you felt like, wow,
- 33:44Speaker 1: you know Mac took a real step forward. When was
- 33:46Speaker 1: the last time you ended a game and felt like,
- 33:48Speaker 1: Macto a real step forward today to jump on that point,
- 33:52Speaker 1: I think that's that's really important that they do something
- 33:55Speaker 1: like that. And even more like signature win is would
- 33:58Speaker 1: be great, Like you know they win Sunday I think
- 34:00Speaker 1: that's a signature win. I'll take it a step further.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Can they have a signature win where he kind of
- 34:05Speaker 1: stands toe to toe with somebody else playing well, yeah,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and outscores them right, or you know they're you know,
- 34:12Speaker 1: maybe playing poorly earlier in the game and build themselves
- 34:14Speaker 1: a two school deficit and respond to it. Yeah, you know,
- 34:18Speaker 1: I know, I know mac Jones can get a lead
- 34:22Speaker 1: and keep it because that's how they win games. I
- 34:25Speaker 1: don't know that mac Jones could fall behind and rally
- 34:28Speaker 1: because he's never done it. Yeah, you know, I think
- 34:30Speaker 1: twenty five is the magic number. They've never won a
- 34:32Speaker 1: game allowing twenty five points. Yeah, and the games that
- 34:35Speaker 1: they've won with him largely feel the same. At last week,
- 34:39Speaker 1: even though it wasn't, you know, an artistic treasure, they
- 34:43Speaker 1: got a lead, they kept the lead throughout the game,
- 34:47Speaker 1: and they were never trailing. Right, you know, did that
- 34:50Speaker 1: to me? Make the stupid turnover even when you try to, right,
- 34:53Speaker 1: I know they can win that game. I've seen him
- 34:55Speaker 1: do it eleven times now. They've won all eleven games
- 34:58Speaker 1: in a very similar fashion. Um, I'd like to see
- 35:03Speaker 1: it a little bit, a little bit different, A little
- 35:05Speaker 1: bit different having to score at you know, maybe that
- 35:07Speaker 1: Houston game is the one outlier where they fell behind
- 35:11Speaker 1: and they responded. But yeah, I mean they also had
- 35:14Speaker 1: a ton of help. That was a That was a
- 35:15Speaker 1: good one, Paul, because I remember I was at the
- 35:17Speaker 1: game in Houston and I was, you know, when they
- 35:20Speaker 1: at the you know, lowest point of that game. I
- 35:23Speaker 1: see myself, this is the low point of post Brady.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And then they came back. They did that punt thing. Yeah,
- 35:29Speaker 1: and then they came back, But I was thinking, this
- 35:31Speaker 1: is the low point. Hopefully that was. That was the
- 35:33Speaker 1: first time I wasn't even watching the game. He was
- 35:35Speaker 1: just watching me lose my mind. That was the first
- 35:37Speaker 1: time I had to take deuces. That was as bad
- 35:41Speaker 1: as it got. And then they came back. But you know,
- 35:43Speaker 1: and I would say too, if you're a true Mac believer,
- 35:46Speaker 1: then you should look at this Ravens game and say,
- 35:48Speaker 1: let Mac eat, you know, like, go after those guys
- 35:51Speaker 1: if they if they if if you think that he
- 35:53Speaker 1: can throw it around the yard. What we've seen from
- 35:56Speaker 1: two weeks, this is a secondary to try to do it.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I feel like this has to be the week where
- 36:00Speaker 1: they establish some passing game. That's yeah. So I also
- 36:04Speaker 1: want to say this, like before we dump all over
- 36:07Speaker 1: the Ravens and then in turn, if we dump all
- 36:09Speaker 1: over Belichick for not allowing Mac to do what Mike
- 36:12Speaker 1: just said. In seven quarters this year, the Ravens defense
- 36:15Speaker 1: has been really good. They completely self destructed in the
- 36:19Speaker 1: fourth quarter in Miami. Right. They allowed twenty three points
- 36:23Speaker 1: in the first seven quarters of the season, nine against
- 36:26Speaker 1: the Jets, who scored thirty one the next week, right,
- 36:29Speaker 1: and fourteen through three quarters against Miami. Yea, then they
- 36:34Speaker 1: scored twenty eight points in the fourth quarter. So you
- 36:37Speaker 1: have to ask yourself, is the Ravens where they exposed
- 36:41Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter and that's what they are? Right?
- 36:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna guess no, No, I think that's a pretty
- 36:46Speaker 1: good team that had a meltdown or the first seven
- 36:51Speaker 1: quarters of the season when they allowed twenty three points.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Ye Is that closer to what they are? Right? My
- 36:56Speaker 1: guess is that's closer to what they are. Yeah, Okay,
- 36:58Speaker 1: I agree with you, And that's why I don't think
- 37:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna come in here after the game, no matter
- 37:02Speaker 1: what happens and be like Matt just couldn't do it
- 37:03Speaker 1: against a terrible secondary, Like, and that's what I want
- 37:05Speaker 1: to avoid. I want to avoid, like, what is Patricia doing?
- 37:10Speaker 1: How did you watch the game? Did you see what
- 37:13Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle did? Like, that's what I'm
- 37:16Speaker 1: looking to avoid, is the mat Patricia onslaught if they
- 37:19Speaker 1: run the ball and play conservatively right, last year they
- 37:23Speaker 1: played the Ravens, they won two years but two years yeah,
- 37:26Speaker 1: oh was it two years ago? Already? Two years? Was
- 37:28Speaker 1: that the driving rain store? I was a moneah, Okay,
- 37:31Speaker 1: they didn't even play him last week, So I'm last year.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So I'm I don't want the old Cam Newton days.
- 37:36Speaker 1: I'm going back. Man. Every time I got to go
- 37:37Speaker 1: back to that twenty twenty season, I'm just like, what
- 37:40Speaker 1: was that? What were we doing? But it was that
- 37:42Speaker 1: was a good game. I mean, that was their best
- 37:44Speaker 1: game of the year. It's unbelievable throw by Jacobe Miner unbelievable.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I was. I went back and read what I wrote
- 37:50Speaker 1: after the game, which was like, for the second week
- 37:52Speaker 1: in a row, Cam didn't make the backbreaking mistakes. Sorry
- 37:54Speaker 1: Betty Love, Uh you know, but uh you know, I
- 37:58Speaker 1: know Jacobe Marners made the play here. She's coming after
- 38:03Speaker 1: your balls. I don't care, but yeah, it's uh, it's
- 38:07Speaker 1: it's I just my conventional thinking is. And you know,
- 38:10Speaker 1: there's nothing that works one hundred percent, but I you
- 38:12Speaker 1: know my conventionals. Don't let him hit you with the
- 38:15Speaker 1: big plays, and try to keep him in the pocket,
- 38:16Speaker 1: try to beat let him make him beat you conventionally
- 38:19Speaker 1: underneath with Andrews and you know those receivers underneath and
- 38:22Speaker 1: and don't allow them the big plays. There's I mean,
- 38:25Speaker 1: this is one of those teams that you wonder can
- 38:27Speaker 1: they do it in ten twelve, fourteen plays. I did
- 38:30Speaker 1: watch a little of the game last night. Um they
- 38:32Speaker 1: had the replay of this game on and they had
- 38:34Speaker 1: a drive that was like nineteen plays. It was the
- 38:36Speaker 1: one that ended with the fourth down fumble on the
- 38:39Speaker 1: goal line. Um Lamar was trying to sneak it in,
- 38:41Speaker 1: didn't get the snap and they fumbled. But that was
- 38:43Speaker 1: a long drive. They converted some third downs on that drive, conventional,
- 38:47Speaker 1: not just Lamars scrambling around. I think they converted the
- 38:51Speaker 1: fourth down on that drive. So they did it. But
- 38:54Speaker 1: I don't know if if your Belichick I would say,
- 38:57Speaker 1: I don't think he can do that. Three four times
- 38:59Speaker 1: in the game to get to thirty and put the
- 39:01Speaker 1: game out of reach for us if we make him, uh,
- 39:04Speaker 1: sort of matriculate the ball, as Hank Stram would say,
- 39:08Speaker 1: as opposed to going with the seventy five yard touchdown
- 39:11Speaker 1: to Rashod Bateman. Yeah, I think the Patriots defense has
- 39:14Speaker 1: a much better chance. It's just difficult to pin down
- 39:17Speaker 1: because on one hand, you look at the speed that
- 39:19Speaker 1: they have and you want to go light and small
- 39:21Speaker 1: and fast. But then you look at how much they
- 39:23Speaker 1: play multiple tight ends and fullbacks and you know that
- 39:26Speaker 1: then that's where they get you. It's all part of,
- 39:28Speaker 1: you know, the design, and that's the feature of what
- 39:30Speaker 1: they try to do to complement Lamar and you know,
- 39:32Speaker 1: kind of get you to pick and then and try
- 39:34Speaker 1: to attack you the other way. You kind of have
- 39:36Speaker 1: to have a defense where you don't have to be
- 39:39Speaker 1: substitute heavy. Yeah, where you can keep guys on the
- 39:43Speaker 1: field regardless of whether it's pass or run. That's hard
- 39:47Speaker 1: to do in today's NFL. You know, That's why they
- 39:49Speaker 1: were a problem. Yeah. Well, I mean, I mean you
- 39:51Speaker 1: had speed from Miami. I mean, those guys are fast,
- 39:53Speaker 1: but they didn't and yeah, and two u b lamar
- 40:00Speaker 1: next level. I mean, the best running quarterback until he
- 40:02Speaker 1: doesn't run. Yeah, you know, so just avoid the big
- 40:06Speaker 1: players and try to make them take underneath. That's, you know,
- 40:08Speaker 1: my best, my best estimate of how to try to
- 40:11Speaker 1: approach it. But even then it feels inevitable that they're
- 40:13Speaker 1: going to hit a couple. Do we have a number
- 40:15Speaker 1: for this game, Paul? Do you over under? Yeah? I
- 40:18Speaker 1: want to say forty four. Isn't that what I'm not sure?
- 40:21Speaker 1: Don said on Monday, I don't know for a Patriots game,
- 40:27Speaker 1: that's a that's a little high. Yeah, for this Patriots team,
- 40:30Speaker 1: you know, so I think they're thinking maybe there's some
- 40:33Speaker 1: points scored. Here was the over runder last week? Yeah,
- 40:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I forget where I read. I would
- 40:38Speaker 1: think it's less than forty four, don't you think? What
- 40:41Speaker 1: was it? But this week I'm seeing forty three and
- 40:43Speaker 1: a half. Forty three and a half this week, Oh,
- 40:45Speaker 1: I can tell you what it was last week? So
- 40:46Speaker 1: like a twenty three twenty kind of game that would
- 40:51Speaker 1: be a barnburner for the page. Last week was forty
- 40:53Speaker 1: and a half, forty and a half, Right, this is
- 40:55Speaker 1: what you say? Forty three and a half, so yeah,
- 40:57Speaker 1: three points higher, Yeah, I mean breaking two any points like,
- 41:01Speaker 1: let's go, yeah, let's please. Yeah, I think they will.
- 41:06Speaker 1: I have strange confidence this week, and I don't know
- 41:10Speaker 1: why I picked against the Patriots last week. I'm not
- 41:12Speaker 1: overly like wow, here we go. But I don't know.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I'm just I'm feeling positive about this game for whatever reason.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I think Matt gets a full week of practice this week. Yeah,
- 41:20Speaker 1: no stomach bug, no packing right um. I think that
- 41:25Speaker 1: if you're Agalore and even Born and Myers, you're like, okay,
- 41:29Speaker 1: we you know, we could do some things here. Yeah.
- 41:32Speaker 1: I don't know about Parker. I don't know what's going
- 41:33Speaker 1: on with Parker. No, they got I think I think
- 41:38Speaker 1: your first game will be a little crosser to Hunt.
- 41:40Speaker 1: The first play the game will be a little crosser
- 41:42Speaker 1: to Hunter Henry to get him get him gold right away.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, get him involved. That's out of the
- 41:48Speaker 1: Parcels playbook. He used to love to get that tight
- 41:51Speaker 1: end involved right away. You know that's always Uh. I
- 41:53Speaker 1: don't know. I think any sport, I mean, you guys
- 41:55Speaker 1: plays like you have a good play early on. It
- 41:57Speaker 1: just kind of I mean I remember playing hockey like
- 41:59Speaker 1: I literally would have a good warm up and feel
- 42:01Speaker 1: like good and warm up, and then I would I
- 42:03Speaker 1: would play well too, I mean even to go further.
- 42:05Speaker 1: But I mean, you can't feed everybody though. You can't
- 42:07Speaker 1: give everybody a pass on the first down to your
- 42:10Speaker 1: hand to leave the good curve in the bullpen. Higho
- 42:13Speaker 1: saved those for the game. All right, five five past
- 42:18Speaker 1: five hundred, sticking a hutline. Let's hit the phones. We'll
- 42:21Speaker 1: go to Neil and work what's up Neil? Hey, guys? So, um,
- 42:26Speaker 1: but the trade the Patriots just maker Justin or traded
- 42:29Speaker 1: Justin Moran to Vegas? Is this an elevation from Marcus
- 42:32Speaker 1: Cannon for the practice squad coming up? Or do you
- 42:34Speaker 1: think you're gonna try to trade trade Isaiah Win as well? Yeah,
- 42:38Speaker 1: we talked about Cannon. Um, that's I think that's on
- 42:41Speaker 1: the table. It's a possibility. Yeah, sure, I mean that's
- 42:44Speaker 1: a that's a good take though, you know, like reading
- 42:47Speaker 1: into why they do certain things, you know, now, do
- 42:51Speaker 1: they think because we have can and we can move Win?
- 42:54Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't. I don't think so, I mean,
- 42:57Speaker 1: what does that have to do with moving Harran? I?
- 43:00Speaker 1: Don't know. Why does that make that more likely because
- 43:02Speaker 1: they like, I think that's less likely. Yeah, like I'm
- 43:06Speaker 1: going to get rid of two tackles because I brought
- 43:08Speaker 1: in the thirty four year old guy coming off back surgery. Well,
- 43:10Speaker 1: I don't know, but like now that they know that,
- 43:12Speaker 1: well Cannon can play, he's gonna be okay. No that
- 43:15Speaker 1: I think you could accurately read the te leaves for Haran. Yeah,
- 43:19Speaker 1: if something happens to win or Brown, we feel like
- 43:22Speaker 1: we have two guys and could just Cannon that can
- 43:25Speaker 1: do what Haran could have done. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 43:28Speaker 1: I like you said Haran wasn't great, so I mean
- 43:30Speaker 1: it shows how desperate the Raiders are too. I agree.
- 43:35Speaker 1: But yeah, I think I think Cannon's part of this, Neil.
- 43:37Speaker 1: I don't know how big of a part, but I
- 43:39Speaker 1: do think he's part of it. Neil. I think also too,
- 43:43Speaker 1: Like this is they were going to tread future considerations
- 43:45Speaker 1: for twenty twenty four since Horno the sixth round draft pick.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Are they're gonna do like a fifth or six or
- 43:50Speaker 1: going to be like a third. I thought they said
- 43:51Speaker 1: a swapping of draft picks. Yeah, twenty twenty four picks says,
- 43:54Speaker 1: I that's what rap sheet said. I don't know if
- 43:55Speaker 1: there's been an update on that. You might have more info.
- 43:57Speaker 1: One that might depend on how much he plays too.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Sometimes there's those kind of incentatives if yeah, it sounds like,
- 44:02Speaker 1: you know, you get a sixth and give them a
- 44:04Speaker 1: seventh or something like that, and if he plays a
- 44:07Speaker 1: bunch of elevates to the next level. It was kind
- 44:11Speaker 1: of trade right there. All right, thanks for the calling, Neil,
- 44:15Speaker 1: Let's go to me meaningless. Patty's an agawam. What's up
- 44:18Speaker 1: Patty going on? Guys? Hey, Patty? So, I just I
- 44:24Speaker 1: had a weird Hall of Fame questions seeing how like
- 44:27Speaker 1: the finalist list came out yesterday and there's obviously, you know,
- 44:30Speaker 1: brainers on there like Derell Reads and Joe Thomas um
- 44:34Speaker 1: and I'd even throw James Starrison for the next two.
- 44:36Speaker 1: But why do you guys think Rodney Harrison gets no
- 44:39Speaker 1: love for the Pro Football Hall of Fame? Because I
- 44:41Speaker 1: know you say, like you know things when you see him,
- 44:44Speaker 1: and to me, when I saw that guy play, even
- 44:46Speaker 1: before he came to the Patriots of San Diego, he
- 44:49Speaker 1: looks like a Hall of Fame player. Yeah, I don't know.
- 44:52Speaker 1: I mean, the only thing is no go ahead? Now
- 44:55Speaker 1: what did he not make the list this year? That's
- 44:58Speaker 1: the list of Hall of Famers. That's not like there's
- 45:00Speaker 1: no finalists or right, that's the list of eligible Hall
- 45:03Speaker 1: of Famers and right he's on that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 45:05Speaker 1: Why why do you say he gets no love? I
- 45:08Speaker 1: just asking cotton in yet. Yeah, I mean, well that's
- 45:10Speaker 1: I can understand. But I think he's a consideration. Absolutely,
- 45:14Speaker 1: I do too, That's what That's what I was getting at. Yeah,
- 45:16Speaker 1: I got how do we know that he's like he
- 45:19Speaker 1: didn't get snub who to vote on these who votes
- 45:20Speaker 1: on these things? There's just the specific committee? Yeah there is? Yeah,
- 45:24Speaker 1: I I what, I don't know. That's a good that's
- 45:27Speaker 1: a really good point. Like we know the Hall of Fame,
- 45:29Speaker 1: Patty comes up with the actual class. You know, it's
- 45:33Speaker 1: the I think there's fifty voters. Peter King writes about
- 45:35Speaker 1: it all the time, you know locally here Ron borgis
- 45:38Speaker 1: I think is one of the voters. Rick Goslin, it's
- 45:40Speaker 1: one of the voters. Um, how do they pare down?
- 45:46Speaker 1: Is it the same committee that pairs it down from
- 45:49Speaker 1: I think there's one hundred and twenty nine guys that
- 45:51Speaker 1: are eligible this year players? Yea? Do they pair it
- 45:55Speaker 1: down to the semi finalists and the finalists and all
- 45:57Speaker 1: that before they vote on do they choose? Is it
- 45:59Speaker 1: the same committee for Do you have information on that?
- 46:01Speaker 1: I don't. I don't. Maybe Andy Hart votes, he might.
- 46:05Speaker 1: I want him away from my DIAPEPSI. I don't like
- 46:08Speaker 1: him near my stuff. It's just who allowed him back
- 46:10Speaker 1: in here? He's actually Andy? Do you have an answer
- 46:13Speaker 1: to that? Licking your You're such a bad person? Do
- 46:18Speaker 1: you have any answer for that? Andy? Why don't you
- 46:19Speaker 1: make yourself useful? Why don't you come on a radio
- 46:21Speaker 1: show when people are listening? Are you just gonna loiter
- 46:23Speaker 1: around Matt Morrell like a creepy You're gonna actually jump
- 46:25Speaker 1: on the show he's doing show. That's why I told him.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Why don't you come on and show where people are? Actually?
- 46:32Speaker 1: Why is he walking around? The fans are excited? This
- 46:34Speaker 1: is that Andy Hart peu reunion right here? Yeah? So
- 46:37Speaker 1: I don't know how he got in here? And how
- 46:40Speaker 1: does the Hall of Fame pair of the players? I
- 46:41Speaker 1: think there was one hundred and twenty nine eligible players
- 46:44Speaker 1: and this year's class turn your mic on. I've never
- 46:46Speaker 1: done radio before. How real radio? How do they pare
- 46:49Speaker 1: it down to you? Look like you just got up
- 46:53Speaker 1: from a nap? Are you tired? No? Doesn't he look tired? No? Yeah,
- 46:57Speaker 1: I think you do. I think I think maybe he's
- 46:59Speaker 1: just getting Oh I'm definitely getting old. Yeah, no question.
- 47:03Speaker 1: So you got thrown out of any youth games recently? No, okay,
- 47:06Speaker 1: good for you. So you don't have the answer with
- 47:08Speaker 1: the second radio show to ask me about getting in
- 47:10Speaker 1: fights with refs in the last fifteen minutes, Noel. In fact,
- 47:14Speaker 1: you're probably aware that some high school football now has
- 47:17Speaker 1: to be played on Thursday nights due to a lack
- 47:18Speaker 1: of officials, at least down this way. Oh, I did
- 47:21Speaker 1: not know that. And we had a Thursday night game
- 47:22Speaker 1: and it was the best officiating crew we've ever had.
- 47:24Speaker 1: They were young, they could run. So the system is working, okay,
- 47:27Speaker 1: and you that's what I do. What I do your
- 47:30Speaker 1: hockey refs. I went to a hockey game this past weekend.
- 47:32Speaker 1: All I could think of was, you do have a
- 47:34Speaker 1: hockey game? Hockey game? I got a cousin that was
- 47:37Speaker 1: playing somewhere in Attleborough, New England. Sports were old or something. Yeah,
- 47:40Speaker 1: it was like meleeis and fights and well, I mean
- 47:42Speaker 1: do stuffs like eight games in a day, so you
- 47:44Speaker 1: can imagine what it's like if you happen to get
- 47:46Speaker 1: like the sixth game. I think those cheer pointing Andy like,
- 47:48Speaker 1: I mean, I played college hockey, I could skate, so
- 47:51Speaker 1: Like so much of the ref experience, I feel like
- 47:53Speaker 1: it's determined in the first five minutes, where you're like,
- 47:56Speaker 1: all right, this guy's in shape, he seems like he
- 47:57Speaker 1: wants to be here, and he knows he's here, right.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be as opposed to some of
- 48:01Speaker 1: the rest I've worked with. The You're like, you're old,
- 48:03Speaker 1: you're fat, you don't want to be here, you just
- 48:05Speaker 1: want to sit at the blue line? Are you talking
- 48:06Speaker 1: about personal? Shut up, Alex. It's good to have Andy back.
- 48:13Speaker 1: So what was the questionable? Do you know what the
- 48:15Speaker 1: process is to get the list of Hall of Famers
- 48:18Speaker 1: that were announced? Yes, I don't want to talk to you.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I want to talk to me. You made me laugh
- 48:23Speaker 1: out loud. Mike goes there, how do they come about that?
- 48:25Speaker 1: And you go there's a committee. Just look at them
- 48:28Speaker 1: like that's the end of the answer. That's what I'm
- 48:29Speaker 1: giving you, right, So you don't like you don't know either, No,
- 48:32Speaker 1: I believe the actual committee part, Yes, I believe. So
- 48:35Speaker 1: the forty eight members or whatever that board is of eight,
- 48:39Speaker 1: they put out the first list and then they're like
- 48:41Speaker 1: the I think no, I think you somebody balanced, Yeah,
- 48:45Speaker 1: some sort of before they get it down to the point,
- 48:48Speaker 1: probably need presentation. They probably need a certain amount of
- 48:50Speaker 1: votes to get it. Yes, yes, But now that we
- 48:53Speaker 1: have Andy, you know, um, by the way, I was
- 48:56Speaker 1: just the reason I was waiting and hanging around is
- 48:58Speaker 1: because I'm not allowed to walk around without an escort.
- 49:00Speaker 1: And I texted your guy Aaron, and he's ghosting me. Okay,
- 49:03Speaker 1: so he's out in practice. You're bringing your own escorts
- 49:05Speaker 1: now to practice. That's a little you want to call
- 49:07Speaker 1: Aaron and escort. It's not really my type. But if
- 49:10Speaker 1: you're interested, But now that we have you here his kids,
- 49:13Speaker 1: if you have a now that you have a chance
- 49:15Speaker 1: to tell Patriots fans what you think about this team.
- 49:17Speaker 1: And you know, on a state, you know place that
- 49:20Speaker 1: actually people are listening. How many times you're gonna go
- 49:22Speaker 1: to the same bad joke. But it's nothing bad about
- 49:26Speaker 1: nothing bad. Yeah, that was so funny. It's really not
- 49:31Speaker 1: a joke. Funny, but the truth is sometimes painful. What's
- 49:34Speaker 1: what's your current status opinion of the Patriots? It has
- 49:39Speaker 1: not changed that they're a mediocre football team. I thought
- 49:41Speaker 1: they were going to be a mediocre football team. I
- 49:43Speaker 1: thought they'd be right around five hundred and I don't
- 49:47Speaker 1: know why you would change that now. I've seen some
- 49:49Speaker 1: good things, I've seen some bad things. We don't even
- 49:51Speaker 1: know your your baseline. So you thought they were mediocre?
- 49:54Speaker 1: I had them with a nine? What did you have? Eight? Nine? Yeah? Wow,
- 49:57Speaker 1: that's a new Fred. Wow, it's accurate Fred, as I've
- 50:01Speaker 1: always been since when since I left? Maybe because when
- 50:04Speaker 1: I was here, you were never for the last twenty
- 50:06Speaker 1: eight years. Yeah, not the first week listen and not
- 50:09Speaker 1: just put it this way long gone, or the days
- 50:11Speaker 1: of fifteen and one tough schedule Yeah, one shoulder. He
- 50:16Speaker 1: said it was a tough schedule, that already picked fifteen.
- 50:18Speaker 1: That's unbelievable, because so I do a podcast with your guy, FITZI, yeah,
- 50:22Speaker 1: he picked nine and eight. He's your guy, except he's not.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Because when you did an interview on our show this
- 50:27Speaker 1: past weekend, I brought up something you said and he
- 50:28Speaker 1: goes out and I stopped listening to him, and I
- 50:30Speaker 1: was like, do you treat him like I treat Paul.
- 50:32Speaker 1: I already know what he's gonna say, so I just
- 50:34Speaker 1: ignore it. But he picked nine and eight, You picked
- 50:36Speaker 1: eight and nine. Those, to me, are are interesting records
- 50:40Speaker 1: for people that I think generally air on the side
- 50:42Speaker 1: of yeah, positive positivity. I felt. I feel like, though
- 50:45Speaker 1: I don't know how much the actual Patriots performance has
- 50:48Speaker 1: changed my outlook, but looking at the other teams on
- 50:50Speaker 1: their schedule now has been like, well, I mean like
- 50:52Speaker 1: Buffalo and those not Buffalo, definitely not, but the Raiders. Yeah,
- 51:01Speaker 1: but do you want to have the same experience you
- 51:02Speaker 1: had last year? No, because I think you could be
- 51:05Speaker 1: aligning first, even if those teams aren't as good and
- 51:07Speaker 1: you sneak in the back end of the playoffs. Right now,
- 51:10Speaker 1: you have to care about Buffalo in those Yeah, that
- 51:12Speaker 1: will see you're not You're not playing the same game.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I didn't think they had much of a shot of
- 51:15Speaker 1: the playoffs. For Mike's reason. I now think that, well,
- 51:18Speaker 1: are you looking over your glasses that aren't there? Because
- 51:21Speaker 1: I think I think the Raiders, The Raiders, Cleveland, Indie. Yeah,
- 51:25Speaker 1: right right. Those are three teams that I thought were
- 51:27Speaker 1: going to be in the mix. Sincy. Do you ever
- 51:29Speaker 1: let her talk? Yeah, she talks Whenever he has a name,
- 51:32Speaker 1: it's Alex. I know, I couldn't think of it at
- 51:33Speaker 1: that moment. I think we've met before. You actually have
- 51:40Speaker 1: to say she didn't remember. I remember, just not her name.
- 51:43Speaker 1: I'm bad with names. Overall, your reputation precedes you. Yeah,
- 51:47Speaker 1: that's not good. Not from these people telling it. Don't
- 51:49Speaker 1: trust these people for sure, you're going to say another word.
- 51:51Speaker 1: They're not from these But in the game, in the
- 51:54Speaker 1: last game specifically, nice are you? Are you wall in
- 51:57Speaker 1: on the offensive line? What did you think? Uh, because
- 52:00Speaker 1: we're a big line guy. Yes, And I'll tell you
- 52:02Speaker 1: what I've been doing. I like a line play. Why
- 52:05Speaker 1: not foundation? You can't have fullback play without a line
- 52:08Speaker 1: Plus that James Devlin commercial that he does very good
- 52:12Speaker 1: for tires commercial play that commercial teacher par shaped loser.
- 52:21Speaker 1: So I have said I thought the offensive line should
- 52:24Speaker 1: be a strength of this team offensively, whatever strength is.
- 52:27Speaker 1: I'm not saying the best in the league, just saying
- 52:29Speaker 1: something you could lean on. I called it a house
- 52:30Speaker 1: of cards because there's no depth and you have all
- 52:32Speaker 1: these guys move in different positions. I didn't think they
- 52:34Speaker 1: were very good in Miami, and last week I thought
- 52:37Speaker 1: they played to a level where okay, that maybe could
- 52:41Speaker 1: be something you build on moving forward. Certainly the the
- 52:44Speaker 1: end of the game, the six and a half minute drive,
- 52:45Speaker 1: the way they ran the football, that's good. Four minute
- 52:48Speaker 1: football for six and a half minutes um without a
- 52:50Speaker 1: full back too. I mean, but I well, they kind
- 52:53Speaker 1: of have an F. Did you listen to nik Klie
- 52:55Speaker 1: yesterday talking about the f's out there? Um so, but
- 52:59Speaker 1: I still have depth concerns, right ye? Like, yeah, I
- 53:02Speaker 1: still think it's a house of cards. Best, speaking of that,
- 53:05Speaker 1: what do you think of the Harran trade? Do you
- 53:06Speaker 1: think that means Marcus Cannon could be coming? It was
- 53:09Speaker 1: a sixth for him and a seventh is the report?
- 53:11Speaker 1: Didn't Bill one? Didn't Bill once say like something to
- 53:15Speaker 1: the effect like just because you have a name on
- 53:17Speaker 1: a depth chart doesn't mean you have depth, right, Like
- 53:19Speaker 1: I think Justin Haran had reached that status where if
- 53:22Speaker 1: you have a guy that you don't want to a
- 53:23Speaker 1: guy you don't want to play is not depth just
- 53:26Speaker 1: because he's there and he's in a uniform and he's
- 53:27Speaker 1: got a number on like, you don't want to put
- 53:29Speaker 1: him on the field. So if somebody else wants him,
- 53:31Speaker 1: if Josh wants him, take him and then I'll figure
- 53:34Speaker 1: out who else is next. But my bottom line is
- 53:36Speaker 1: any one of those five doesn't play, I think they
- 53:39Speaker 1: could have problems. No, I think I said that Andy, Thanks,
- 53:42Speaker 1: well they did. They took win out willingly, and they
- 53:49Speaker 1: took Strange out willingly in the short periods. And they
- 53:53Speaker 1: do that almost every year in the first couple of
- 53:55Speaker 1: games of the year, right, because they're trying. They're trying
- 53:57Speaker 1: to build depth that they know is relaily known existed.
- 54:00Speaker 1: That's correct, now, Marcus Cannon, I'm intrigued by I don't
- 54:03Speaker 1: know if he's healthy. But you have a guy that
- 54:05Speaker 1: used to be pretty good who knows your system all right,
- 54:07Speaker 1: he's big yep. What else? I don't know what they
- 54:10Speaker 1: got inside? I mean this system, what is the new sest?
- 54:14Speaker 1: I don't know. We haven't you guys haven't come to
- 54:15Speaker 1: the end of that. No, No, we Tria offense. We
- 54:18Speaker 1: were hoping, mister football. I'm still not the system. Well,
- 54:22Speaker 1: it's it's clearly they they kind of vascialate back and
- 54:25Speaker 1: forth vasily. This is vasolate, vascalate back and forth between Okay,
- 54:28Speaker 1: we're gonna be the outside zone. Oh crap, that doesn't work.
- 54:31Speaker 1: Let's run some of the old stuff to get It's
- 54:33Speaker 1: a little bit like Paul the old Brady to Edelman
- 54:35Speaker 1: plays like nothing's working. Can we just throw a freaking
- 54:38Speaker 1: slant to eet. But I heard people say about that
- 54:41Speaker 1: last drive, the six thirty three drive at the end
- 54:44Speaker 1: of the game, Oh, they were running, you know the Shanahan.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I saw a lot of between the tackle running I
- 54:49Speaker 1: don't know us between the outside like, like, what made
- 54:55Speaker 1: you think that that was the Shanahan off? It looked
- 54:58Speaker 1: like just the slanting again. Everybody steps together, it's a dance,
- 55:02Speaker 1: and we all step and then were on the move. Right.
- 55:06Speaker 1: But that's what people who watched this spot say. It
- 55:08Speaker 1: was happening. But if the guard blocks down, the other
- 55:10Speaker 1: guard pulls through, not chance, that's not channing. It just
- 55:12Speaker 1: it looked like so if you see a pulling guard,
- 55:14Speaker 1: it's not channing. There was I will tell you on
- 55:16Speaker 1: the last couple of runs to the left tackle, there
- 55:19Speaker 1: was a lot of unison slanting out to the left right.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I don't know if that means it's zone. I don't.
- 55:23Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not doing it necessarily, but I'm not.
- 55:26Speaker 1: But they were doing they were doing what they said.
- 55:29Speaker 1: It entails. You have to get out of your block
- 55:33Speaker 1: in that style, you have to be on the move.
- 55:35Speaker 1: And then the and then the running back picks is lane.
- 55:38Speaker 1: You know, I don't. All I saw was ball snap
- 55:41Speaker 1: and running back goes to the hole. Well, in that situation,
- 55:45Speaker 1: you're going to be I think more decisive and aggressive. Yeah,
- 55:48Speaker 1: because the situation you're in, you're trying to run clock right.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Want any negative plays those types. I'm not convinced that,
- 55:54Speaker 1: you know, and I could be wrong, but I don't
- 55:56Speaker 1: think that that last six thirty three was going to
- 55:59Speaker 1: the zone runs. Well, they've been mixing both back and forth,
- 56:02Speaker 1: I thought all summer, all preseason. Yeah, they have, and
- 56:06Speaker 1: I think they've done it in the past with docte
- 56:08Speaker 1: and with the old offense. So why is this the
- 56:10Speaker 1: Shanahan offense just based on your base run because some
- 56:13Speaker 1: of your people, some of your people want that, like
- 56:17Speaker 1: the analytics and shan list and that, like they try
- 56:20Speaker 1: to reinvent the wheel. It's still just football. You got
- 56:23Speaker 1: five guys that are trying to when Bill comes up
- 56:24Speaker 1: with a cap with a straight brim, then and that's why, like,
- 56:28Speaker 1: like I think it was like a stat of like
- 56:29Speaker 1: outside runs versus you know outside don't like all right,
- 56:32Speaker 1: so they were like three outside? So does that mean
- 56:34Speaker 1: Shanahan offense? Off? Like? Does that? Like like I'm trying
- 56:36Speaker 1: to think why people are just so glomming onto it's
- 56:38Speaker 1: a Shanahan offense, like because I don't know how much
- 56:40Speaker 1: truth there really is. I also think, and I don't
- 56:43Speaker 1: know if you guys would agree, because of Patricia and
- 56:46Speaker 1: Judge and the scheme and all of this, it's like
- 56:49Speaker 1: low hanging fruit. Anytime something happens, it's because of all
- 56:53Speaker 1: these decisions. Sometimes it's just bad plays. Like I watched
- 56:56Speaker 1: bad plays for twenty years under great coaching with great quarterbacking,
- 57:00Speaker 1: great players. But because we have this low hanging new scheme,
- 57:04Speaker 1: Patrician doesn't know what he's doing fruit, It's like everything
- 57:06Speaker 1: goes back to that. No, Sometimes Trent Brown doesn't block
- 57:09Speaker 1: the guy you mean, or doesn't try to block the
- 57:11Speaker 1: guy you mean. When Mac Jones throws a bomb to
- 57:13Speaker 1: an open Devantay Parker and throws it over the wrong shoulder.
- 57:16Speaker 1: It's it's it's a fifty fifty ball because wanted him
- 57:19Speaker 1: to throw it. Thank you, Paul Perilla. I missed that.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Um No, I just said that, like there's a lot
- 57:25Speaker 1: going on for Mac. I think Mac has a lot
- 57:27Speaker 1: of excuses. I do, lack of talent, lack of coaching,
- 57:30Speaker 1: new scheme. Not when that happens, right when he sees
- 57:33Speaker 1: DeVante Parker and throws it, and then mister accuracy, because
- 57:37Speaker 1: he's accurate, right, that's one of his strengths, throws it
- 57:39Speaker 1: and it just tails over his head towards Minca Fitzpatrick.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Maybe that was why, but I'm just saying it wasn't
- 57:46Speaker 1: a fifty if that's why, if his strength is accuracy,
- 57:50Speaker 1: and I don't think I think he had a terrible game.
- 57:53Speaker 1: I think the offense I think terrible. Strong. But he
- 57:55Speaker 1: did not. He did not wo it back, not great.
- 57:57Speaker 1: He did not play well. That's what the EI in you,
- 58:00Speaker 1: Michael tell you. I blame you for all my issues,
- 58:07Speaker 1: the traumas coming out. All right, we gotta take a
- 58:11Speaker 1: break because Paul's we'll be right back. I don't know
- 58:13Speaker 1: if Andy will, but will be ready into the game.

- 1:06:38Speaker 1: to have that, like Patriots fans need to find that
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: I watch. I'm gonna I'm gonna give you the nod

- 1:07:05Speaker 1: next two seasons. That'll be mine. It is. It doesn't

- 1:07:19Speaker 1: So Fred says he likes the vitriol. Fine, you're allowed

- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Oh splendid, James, Oh boy, splendid. That's another great moment
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: from all right back here and Patriots Unfiltered. We were
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: joined by Andy Harp for the break. I think the
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: fans were excited about that. There's a lot of vitriol
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: in that clip there by the way. Yeah, I think
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: accused the word vitriol more times in that sentence. And
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: I have my entire life watches to root against vitriol.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: That's all right, I don't want any vitriol. But Andy
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: has Andy has left the premises and being escorted out
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: by the way. Yes, and Evan lazarres here. Hey, Evn,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: how's it going everybody? Good? Good good? Evan? Evan? All right, Evan,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: you have returned from practice. What do you got for us? Well?
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: I had to pull up my my notes because this
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: was a busy day out there at Patriots practice today.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Two players missing from the fifty three man roster. No surprise,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Justin Haran was not out there, so though Bill Belichick
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: wouldn't confirm it, definitely seems like he has been traded
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: to the Raiders. And no Ray Kawon McMillan either for
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: the Patriots at practice. And I will also add just
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: on the fifty three man roster that Kyle Dugger was
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: extremely limited in the opportunity that we got to see him.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: And I would also throw Jacobe Myers his name out
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: there as well. He's been dealing with that knee injury
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: over the last couple of weeks, and I would say
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: that he's going to be in the very limited category
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: for the past today as well. So two guys there
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: that I don't like to predict Patriots injury reports because
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: you never know, but I would say that it would
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: be a surprise if they participated in full. That's Ugger
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: and Myers. Huh. Yeah. So, Paul, you mentioned McMillan when
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: we were talking about Jamie Collins just in for a
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: free agent visit. You know, McMillan could be dealing with
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: something and you know they're looking for justin case, you know,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: type of stuff. Yeah, little depth. Yeah, New seventeen two
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: did there was a New seventeen. I also would mention
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: that Daniel o'qually from that suspension was at practice and
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: participating with a defensive lineman. So I would say that
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: maybe he took justin harn spot and that was what
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: triggered the Haran trade, was to make room for Daniel
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: equally on the fifty three man roster. Yeah, which we
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: dropped the ball. Nice. Sorry, Yeah, I'll take a lap
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: for that one. Yeah, couldn't help. So what were they
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: in pads today? Shells? Shells on a Wednesday? So they
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: switched it up last they were shoulder pads and pay
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: what So, Yeah, Tom Brady's in practice, by the way,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: if anyone cares, I was kidding. Um okay, so they're
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: in shells today. What was the mood of the team,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: don't laugh? Business as usual business. I don't think there
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: was any extra spunk, okay, not in a negative way.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: I just think that it was no chatter, no dancing,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: a typical Wednesday, get to business. I think Bill Belichick
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: set the tone a little bit during his press conference.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: It's a tough task. This is not an easy game
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: for the Patriots. On Sunday, Lamar Jack and Bill called
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: him an MVP type player. Obviously, he's already won one
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: MVP and he's on the way to maybe winning another
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: one so far this year. So this is a legitimate
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: tall task, and I think that they know it. They
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: got to be focused. When you bring in a guy
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: and you tailor your offense around that one guy, if
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: you win, he's your most valuable player. And you know,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: so it makes sense. Bill's right, you know, if they
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: win or lose, it's because of him. Did Bill say
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: anything about his red hoodie? He did not. I'm sorry.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: That's why we gotta have what are we doing? What
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: are we doing? Questions? That was you know, that caused
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: a major stir when he came out with that red hoodie.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I don't know if you know, Evan, but we talked
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: about Twitter, Twitter lit up and spreadsheet or do you
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: have to add another another row? Well, it doesn't show
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: me no respect. He doesn't do press. Conferences are just games.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: But the pro shop and phones at the pro shop
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: lit up. Everybody wants a red hoodie. Yeah. Well, with
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: the return of pat Patriot in the red uniforms, we
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: might be kind of heading for a head for this problem.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: So you but maybe if if we've got an old
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: logo on there, that that'll kind of fix things perhaps,
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: But we'll get into that later. Okay, So mood was
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: business as usual or you know getting you know what
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: about media? Was there a lot of media? Was it
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: a big crowd? Was it the same crowd? Was a
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: big crowd? Actually, yeah, there's a lot of media. I
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: think coming off the win Lamar Jackson coming to town,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: there maybe is a little bit more buzz around this
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: game than two road games to start the year against
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Mitchell Drubisky in two. It's not exactly the same as
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Lamar in a red hot Raven's offense coming here to
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: play the Patriots on Sunday. So I thought it was
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: a pretty full contingent. Usually Wednesdays now that they have
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Bill and Mac Jones on Wednesdays, gets a little bit
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: more busy down here because both those guys are talking
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: on Wednesday and a lot of times, you know, the
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: media likes to grouse. Was there a theme to the
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: grousing today? Any themes that you could detect from the
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: media sometimes, like food or timing. I think, you know,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: maybe having Kyle Dugger out there when he clearly was
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: not okay out there. You know, he's clearly not practice,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: but they wanted it to be there so that we
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: reported that he was physically out practiced. There's a little
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: bit of rumblings about that walking off the practice field. Okay,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: there you go. I like it. Well, some deaths, maybe peppers,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: maybe my boy and he came in immediately, made a
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: couple of tackles on Sundays. Do you think something soon
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: has to happen on on Collins if that was more
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: than just a kid tires kind of thing, if you're
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: going to play him this week, you would. But I
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: don't think that that's a possibility, do you. I mean,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: I would doubt it, having done nothing all summer, But
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: you never know, Like I said Richard Sherman last year
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: signed Yeah, he was off the street and started basically
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: started in the game against the Patriots. Um evan, now
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: that you hear you know, I have a couple questions
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: left over from the game. And I assume that you've
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: done your all twenty two and looked at all that
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: and multiple times. Yeah, yeah, that last drive, Okay, were
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: they in the Shanahan offense or were they just running
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: the ball? They were just running the ball, That's what
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: I thought. Thank you very much. I think the coolest
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: thing about everybody agrees with you. I don't know how
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: we're arguing. Didn't he said he didn't know. I think
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: the coolest part about that, and salth Palantonio didn't. Okay,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: so that's the one who started it. I us so
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: one of the Steelers players I'm blanking on who it
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: was said after the game in their post game locker
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: room that Mac was basically running it at the line
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: of scrimmage and based off of the alignment of the defense,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: was checking into various plays to match with to match
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: what the Steelers were doing. And as much as we
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: want to give Matt credit for that, because he is
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: a threebal player most of the time. I think the
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: bigger thing that I came away from it a hole
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: was the overall plan Like that, it felt like a
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: team that had a plan on Sunday on off and
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I don't know in week one, and I mean, look
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: at their running game down the stretch in week one.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: I know they didn't hand it off as much as
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: they did in the first quarter, but it really faded
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: in the final three quarters. There was no counter there
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: was no adjustments, and it felt like that drive was
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: really a stepping stone for them in the future. Where
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: they came out, they ran a couple of power plays.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: The Steelers then started loading that side of the line
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: of scrimmage to take an advantage of that and basically
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: prevent the power plays. And they went to that pin
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: poll sweep action on the final two plays of the
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: game to the week side with David Andrews pulling cold
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: strange pins them inside. Andrews comes and pulls through and
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: they hit those two runs back to back to run
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: out the clock, and those were sort of the adjustments
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: and Belichick actually broke it down on the bellustrator was
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: zoh this week those sequences where you have the Steelers
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: basically lining up towards the strong side of the formation
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: with significant numbers towards the tight end side of the formation.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Expect those power gap runs downhill at that side, and
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: then they check out of it. They get into this
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: pin pole and now they're running weak side, and there's
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: nobody there right its hat on a hat, and it's
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: easy picking for Damian Harris. I thought he slid down
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: on the first one. He probably could have scored if
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: he stayed on his feet, but then he ended up game.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: That was the That was the reaction in the press box,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: like he had three more yards to get the first smart. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: at first it seemed smart and when you realize how
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: close he was, Yeah, when you realize he set up
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: an all or nothing pay not smart, Not smart at all. Yeah.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: So I were they running the Shanahan offense, I would
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: say no. I mean, Shanahan is not a power guy,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: like you know, pull the guard through up to the
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: second level and and crease the defense. That's that's not
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan. The pin pole stuff is a little bit
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: more Shanahan esque. But we're really getting into this is
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: a whole thing. Chip Kelly Mark Helfrick type of world
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: with pin pole. So I wouldn't even say that that's
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: necessarily a Shanahan staple either. So I would say they
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: were just running the ball. Do you think it's an
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: app that people are saying like this is what we've
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: been talking about, Like, is it app to call this
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: what they're doing the Shanahan offense? No. I think there's
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: elements of a couple of different playbooks that you're seeing.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: I would say it's three playbooks, and all of these once,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I say, you're gonna be like, well, duh, right. The
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: first one is the old Patriots playbook, because Josh McDaniels playbook,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: you know, Charlie Weiss's playbook. The second one, I would say,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: there are some Shanahan wrinkles in there, some more zone blocking,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: and maybe when we see more of the under center
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: play action game, we'll see a little bit more of that.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: A third playbook is Alabama. I mean they've been shotgun.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Sixty four out of seventy one of Mac Jones's dropbacks
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: have been in the shotgun. That's Alabama. Alabama ran under
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: center with Mac when he was there maybe five times,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: Like you could count it on two hands. Probably the
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: amount of times they were under center at Alabama. So
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: I think a lot of the shotgun passing game and
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: this weekends the Steelers that that buzzword RPO. We saw
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: a little bit more of that against Pittsburgh, and that
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: to me is straight out of the Crimson Tide playbook.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: So I think there's three different playbooks at play here
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: that they're kind of melding together. But like I said,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: at the beginning, it felt like an offense that had
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: been orchestrated that was a little bit more together, a
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: little bit more tightened up than what we saw in
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: week one, which was a really good positive. Real quick,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: I just want to defend Andy from what you said.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: He basically said exactly what Evan said about you know,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: they're not running zone. When you see guys pulling in
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: the guards moving around like that. If everybody is in
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: unison slamming down on the outside, that could be an
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: indication that you're more in the zone stuff. But when
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: there are guys like moving around pulling out leading blood,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: that's the old That's what the Patriots, that's how they
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: run the book. No I'm saying that's thank you said
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: that Andy was sort of arguing with you when yeah,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: he basically said, it's tough, said, I know you have
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: validation now, so just so just so every again, just
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: trust what you see. Yeah you should just but like
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I have faith in yourself. I'm but I'm not only
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: need someone else to tell you that what you're seeing
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: is what you saw. No, but like all these smart
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: people are telling me one thing, and I just want
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: to make sure all these smart people just so everybody
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: can get a feel of people on your shows, on
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: your shows, South Palantonio, I mean, I can't see him
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: walking around the press pot. Evan's arch nemesis, like Greg
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Barnard said, no, unequivocally, No, they're not running any They
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: didn't run any zone running. I didn't. I didn't hear him. So,
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: outside zone is a ninety degree step towards the sideline, right,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: So all the offensive linemen are going to take a
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: step ninety degrees with their inside foot towards the sideline.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: Inside zone or outside foot, depending on who you are.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: Inside zone is forty five degrees right, So you're coming
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: off the ball at a forty five degree angle. Now,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: the difficult part about inside zone is that it looks
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: a lot like duo and duo is a gap scheme
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: and inside zones zone scheme. So there are a lot
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: of rules and different things that you have to dissect
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: into play. Because the Patriots will also run duo, which
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: is double teams, right, you know you'd call it duo,
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: you can call it double whatever you want to call it.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: Just the guard and the tackle or the guard in
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: the center's it's gonna have two double teams and you're
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: just blowing people off the ball, right, So there's a
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: little bit of nuance there, and you know the kind
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: of gray area of which one's which, and I think
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: the Patriots run both of them, so that makes it
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: even more confusing. But that's the general rule though. Yeah.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: My my thing with this whole Shannahan to me, the
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: the picture of that is the old Denver offense, you know,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: where Gibbs was that offensive line coach, and they would
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: get up out of the stance and like you said,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: they take that ninety degree step and they'd all be
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: moving to the sideline and you had the running back
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: whoever it was, going behind, and he would just pick
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: his lane, pick his lane. It's it's not complicated. It's
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: not complicated. It's easier. Yeah, yeah, it's to me, it's
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: it's very it's apparent, and you see it, you know it.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: It's apparent, and we saw it all summer, but I
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: didn't see it in this game, and people was telling
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: me it was happening, and I was like, I don't
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: think I can't. I can't account for the voices in year,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: you know, I don't think I've heard more people explain
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: it exactly the way Evan just did right than anything else.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: You don't think people said, oh, they ran maybe like
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: one or two that they saw specifically that last draw. Yeah,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: like maybe one or two. They made eleventh straight place
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: like maybe one of them was with the back to
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: back place to end the game were technically outside zone
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: to the weak side of the formation with the pin
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: poll right, so it's technically outside zone. Was a hybrid.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: But yeah, I pinpole tag gets into I just want
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: to apologize to the people that were listening to the
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: show that people like completely though they'd like the detail,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: the talk. You know, you can sit out I am.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: We gotta get to the bar for what it's worth.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Pro Football Focus charted them with eighteen gap runs to
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: five zone runs in Sunday's games, so definitely gap have
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: game plan. You know, they were pulling guards, they were
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: getting off the ball. This was not nod zone, ye,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: any other impression because you know you're not on the
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: post game show. In the post game show, they do
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: the good, the bad, and the injured. What were you good?
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: Give me a couple of goods and a couple of
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: bads from the game in your opinion. Sure, so I
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: broke down the offense a little bit already, so I'll
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: go to the defense side of the ball. They have
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: been in the first two games. And I know everybody's
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: gonna say, it's only been two games, let's see what happens,
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: but they've been almost eighty percent zone coverage in the
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: back end in the first two games. And this to me,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I was just watching the Ravens defense against the Jets
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: and the Dolphins. You turn on every single tape in
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: the NFL right now, and everybody's running the same defense
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: because everybody's so petrified of the explosive players in the
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: passing game. The rules favor it. There's receivers everywhere. These
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: quarterbacks can make the throws, so everybody's playing too deep
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: safety shells and then they're rotating it after the snap
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: or they're staying in too high, and the Patriots are
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: doing the same thing. I mean, they're mimicking what everybody
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: else is doing. On defense, they have become and I
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: was joking with Mike earlier that if I asked them
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: about it, they tell me they still play man right,
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: that they play plenty of man, and that they like
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: man to man. But they are his zone defense. They've
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: been his zone defense since maybe Week seven of last year,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: after that Cowboys game, after Ceedee Lamb walked off on them.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: They've been a zone defense ever since then. And so
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: this is a zone defense, and I think it's a
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: cool zone defense, and that different guys in this secondary
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: might not be individually Stefan Gilmour o JC Jackson or
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: at that level of talent in terms of man coverage ability,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: but they are versatile and they can spin the dial
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: on quarterback. So, for example, on Jalen Mills's interception, he's
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: playing a safety alignment. He's playing the deep half of
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: the field and cover two. As you know, he's a corner,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: but he's playing as a safety alignment. There's times where
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger or Adrian Phillips. They'll play the deep third
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: and cover three, or they'll play the flat, which is
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: typically a cornerback spot, but their safeties so they have
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: that ability on the back end to really rotate it
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: and really make it difficult for quarterbacks to have to
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: react post snap to what coverage shell they are in.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: It worked for the most part in the first two weeks.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: I think some of the things underneath the defense, they're
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: gonna have to clean up rally to the football quicker
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: and limit some of those first and ten becomes second
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: and three because they checked it down and the back
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: Naji Harris picks up seven eight yards on first down.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: You got to tighten it up there. But overall, this
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: is what the league is doing. So I think some
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: fans watch it and they get annoyed by the ben
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: don't break like that's the typical way people call it.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: But this is what everybody's doing because it's just really
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: difficult to keep teams that have all these weapons, and
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: we're gonna see it on Sunday with Lamar and keep
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: them at Bay week one against Miami, and you saw
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: what Miami did in Week two against the Baltimore defense.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: You have to limit explosives, and yeah, it's gonna lead
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: to eleven play drives at end and field goals, and
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: that's gonna be the NFL until the rules start to
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: favor defense a little bit heavier, until we go back
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: into being a little bit more even on those sides
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: of the ball. That's the only way to play defense now,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: and it's it's kind of boring because every single defense
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: in the league is playing the same defense. I had
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: Mac on the down list. Would you agree or disagree? Yeah,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: there's certain things about Mac that I did like from
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: Sunday's game. I like the fact that and I wrote
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: about this after further review. I like the fact that
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: he's attacking man coverage when he sees single coverage now.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: I think last year a lot of the time, when
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: he sees like a tighter window, he's checking it down
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: or he's throwing the ball away and he's not really
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: testing it. Nelson Aglare's touchdown is a great example of it.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: But some of those crossing routes that he threw over
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: the middle of the field to Jacobe and Aglare as well,
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: I think we're good examples too, where there is guys
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: that are in a step or half a step of
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: the receiver, but he's having that willingness and that trust
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: in his arm to let it go and fit the
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: ball into some tighter windows against man coverage. I like
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: that he's being more aggressive in that sense, the decision making,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: the ability to see the field. I don't know what's
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: going on with that. I don't know if it's a
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: coaching thing. I don't know if it's the new system
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: and it's in his head a little bit. But he
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: has definitely missed more reads than I think we would
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: see in a game from him last year. The Jacoby
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: one in the flat, I know everybody's kind of harped
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: on that one, as well as a little Jordan Humphrey
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: play action throw. Those ones are are tough for me
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: because I think, especially on the Jacoby, that's a pick
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: play that they're trying to set up to Johnny Smith,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: and it's almost a predetermined throw, like it's kind of
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: a timing throw where they're trying to clear it out
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: and pick it and then he just is gonna hit
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: him right at the sticks and that ball. If you're
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: gonna make that happen, that ball's got to be out right,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: like you're not going to sit there and read it out. Ideally,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: if he like waits like half a beat, then maybe
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: he sees Jacoby in the flat. But that's almost a
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: predetermined throw on a third and short. So it's a
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: tough one for me. But that some of the royals
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: in some of the reads that he made I thought
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: were worrisome. The DeVante Parker make a Fitzpatrick interception, I
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: think that's one of them where you do start to
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: worry a little bit about the arm strength and the
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: physical abilities of it, because that ball needs to be
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: on the line right like that ball can't sail that
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: ball if you're going to try to hit the seam
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: and cover two, you got to have some smoke on
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: the football. And he gets the pressure off the left
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: side and the ball sails on him a little bit.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: So I think that those are the two things that
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: really stood out to me was seeing the field a
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: little bit better and maybe knowing your limitations a little bit.
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: With the Parker interception, I think, you know, that's probably
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: a throw that he's not ready to make yet real quick.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: Did Marcus Cannon have a black jersey on today at practice?
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: He did? I think that's interesting. Two for it, isn't
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: that the old practice players of the week where the
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: black jersey. Yeah, I just see a clip that the
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: camera guys posted of Bill talking with Cannon, you know,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: heading out to practice, and it looks like it was
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: a black jersey. But I didn't know. Sometimes you can
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: be Yeah, I don't know if it's that or maybe
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Scout team. Yeah, I mean, it could be for the Ravens,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: it could be. It could be something like that too.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Usually I know they break out the yellow stuff for
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: those impression. I just wondering if he was, you know,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: up to speed right away and they're happy and that. Like,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I still think that the Haran thing Um at least
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: um tangently touches Marcus Cannon, like they have to be
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: confident that Cannon can be part of the mix if
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: they need depth attack. It feels like no Conna. It
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: just feels like a one for one swath to me, like,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: do you like an old Marcus Cannon a young Justin
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Horn based on but if Cannon was done? Oh yeah,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: which thirty four year guys coming off back surgery are
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: often done. I think you know, maybe Bill looks at
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: its design, he could just an r on because neither
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: one of those guys is reliable. I need them both. Yeah,
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: and maybe Now he looks at it and says as well,
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: I mean, if I'm gonna have two unreliable guys, Cannon
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: will be one of them. I think. I don't know,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: it's a bad sign with my My best memory of
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: Justin her on the summer was him chasing down dugger
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: on the on the pick six. The dugger like whoa
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Justin Runa. But otherwise, I mean, like you said earlier,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: Paul was not a great camp for him. No, you know,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: it felt like Yanni could use it outplayed him by
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: the end of camp, just the way that I had
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: seen it. I would say that. But I think the
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: other shoot a potentially drop here in terms of depth.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: Mike on Win, who has been their best offensive lineman
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: through two games and worse comes to worse, you know,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: as hits the fan, him going back to right tackle
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: is not necessarily out of the picture either, right, So
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: so I think that you know, if you lose a tackle,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: whether it's Wayne or it's Brown, you know, if it's
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: Win then maybe or if it's Brown, excusing me, maybe
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Win flips back to left on when who goes to
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: right and then they put a guy like James Ferrings
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: in that guard or Chasing Hines in that guard. So
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: Mike on when who has been lights out through two games.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Another line struggled a little bit in Miami and in
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: times of past protection against Pittsburgh as well, but he's
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: been extremely good. So my guess is is they are
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: feeling really good about if they have to kick him
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: back out to right tackle, he'd be off okay, like
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: keeping a right guard like I've been waiting to get
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: to his call his position clearly, Bill watch that too,
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: because last year, like we talked about this all offseason,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: they had all of those games that Trent Brown didn't play,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: and I think when you played three at tackle, he
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: could have played eight. Yeah, you know, but I think
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: they don't love him there. I know all the numbers
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: would tell you he's a better tackle, he's a better
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: right tackle. I don't know. I don't. I don't necessarily
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: buy into him being a better tackle either. I think
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: that when you watch them play with him at tackle,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: there's some things that they did to help him out
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: at tackle, Sliding the protection, keeping the tight end of
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: the back end chip not necessarily running some of their
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: toss players or outside plays to that side and going
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: to the left where Wayne was at the time with
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: a little bit more athleticism and foot speed. I think
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: that there are certain elements to that as well at guard,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: where left side typically for the Patriots is a more
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: athletic side of the line. And I think you've seen
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: at with cold Strange over there versus with On when
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: you over there and now and when he was at
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: the power spot at that right guard spot, and he
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: looks great playing guard Laird last year he was shaky
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: at left guard, So I think that there's a lot
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: to be said about how he's playing at guard now,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: especially at that right guard spot. That I wouldn't touch
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: him if I didn't have to drilling down on that
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: guard talk right now. But I do think with the
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Harran trade it's worth discussing. And those are all you know,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: and listen where we just talked about the Patriots. We
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: don't get to have a Celtics minute like Felger and
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Matt right, you know, we're just talking about the Patriots.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: And I think the Harran move well opens the door
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: for a when you to tackle or cannon off the
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: practice squad. That stuff is all in play. Williams, what's
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: going on with that? With surgery? Real quick? We will minute,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: We will give you a Celtics mind. When we drafted him,
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: we knew that the knee things were going to be
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: an issue. Um, just meniscus clean up. Not worried? Are
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: you worried? Especially if they bring in LaMarcus Aldridge to
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: fill some talk about this is where for most people
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: that talk about the NBA LaMarcus Aldridge not a deep dive,
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: but okay, you do you Mike? At four to two,
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: he decides, I saw enough. I knew they were the
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: last time played in an NBA game. It's been a
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: little it's been a minute. It's been in a minute.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: The kids basketball. But I love that doesn't sound. That's
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: so exciting. I have a sound that was like your
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: best lie, I don't okay, So not concerned about the
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: injury long term, Totally totally with you. I mean, any boy,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: it's gonna happen any um. Disappointment that he wouldn't have
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: maybe done this like three weeks earlier. That's the one
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: question I had is when the season ended, why not
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: just go and I get it, like you know, he
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: had the surgery, he came back, he was in and
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: out of the playoffs, he sucked it up for the finals.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: Maybe he didn't want like the next day to go
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: out and have surgery. You know what, can yeah a
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: lot of week? Can I get a couple of weeks off?
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Maybe you just have one like in season as well? Yeah,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: like can you know, can I go dout of the
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: Bahamas or something? You know, can I just unwind? Do
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: I have to? But there still was more time. And
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: also if you got it right away, then it could
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: look like, oh did the Celtics not tell him he
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: couldn't get it? I didn't even I didn't even go
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: to that, do you know? Huh? It's such a sports
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: problem of like you got surgery too late. Like where
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: else in life would you ever criticize somebody for like
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: waiting too long to get surgery, Like it's only if
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: someone needed to come back for something, right, you know,
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: like when I had surgery on my achilles, I coincided
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: it with March madness, so I could sit my ass
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: on the couch and watch every minute without having to
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: get yelled at. Brilliant, brilliant chess. But but you also
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: got married in the middle of the NFL playoffs, So yeah,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: but the Patriots weren't involved in them again chess not checkers.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: Two thousand two Patriots didn't. The only time Brady played
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: a full season that they didn't make the playoffs. Yeah,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: it was the year I got married. Thank you. What
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: did you know? What are the Sharks? We got engaged
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: when they were like four and five in oh one.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Never once did we think, oh, this team's got super
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Bowl written all over it, and all of a sudden
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: they never lost again, and then we were like, oh,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: we're gonna have a couple of empty tables at the wedding.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: My closest thing to that was we went to a
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: tasting when we were checking out places right before the
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Denver two thousand and five playoff game, when we were
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: up in Carpenteria, which is near Santa Barbara, and I
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: made Lane leave early and miss out on the tasting
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: of all the desserts so that I could get home
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: to watch that two thousand and five which was the
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: first time they ever lost in the playoffs as well,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: so that that's one for me that's not too bad.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: And he wasn't still here because that game is famous
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: for him because he had to go to his sister
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: in law's wedding, right, so he didn't go and Brian
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: came out of retirement to do that game. He came
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: with us with Fred and I and to this day
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: and he's never seen a play of that, not even
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: they lost. There was no say, there was no reason
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: to watch. He never started like we would like have
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: shows and us. He'd be like, can't comment, didn't see it,
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: that's great. Well then he just stuck with it. It
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: just refused it. Oh yeah, no, I mean obviously you
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: saw the highlights, but he never he never watched the game. Yeah, Watson, Yeah,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: that was the first time where it was like they
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: just don't got it. Today, there was two plays that
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: I said, okay, this is different. Troy Brown, who never
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: made a mistake, had a ball off his face on
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: a punt on a fair catch. He mishandled a fair
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: catch and lost the ball. And then Adam at the
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: end of the game, they were down whatever two scores
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: and he had they had a chance to kick a
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: field goal to get within one and he missed it.
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: You know, Adam never missed his important field goals, and
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: he missed it. Not our day yet a little bit.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: So what I missed I had a we had quick
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: Celtics minute, but we were talking about when you being
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: part of that harn mixed as well. You know, if
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: you need depth, you know, Evan brought up could you
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: move a when you to write tackle um and then
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: just plug in like Ferrens or even the rookie Chase
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: and Hines at at guard Um. Evan says that when
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: you has been lights out in the best lineman that
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: they've had in the two games. Oh really, now with
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: that according to you, with both both which know, that's
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: how I confirm my priors. You know, I think something,
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: I just check with the dark you go, you go
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: look at PFF and then PFF says the same thing,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: and it's like, all right, says Shocker. I'm going to
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: set up a pay per view between Dart and two
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: Friday night. They're gonna we're not gonna give you any
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: traditional camera looks to night. They're all gonna be overhead. Right.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: Is there real drama here or is this just the show?
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: It's just you know, when you're when you're in the
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: same niche, it's a little bit yeah right, he's yeah, yeah,
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: it's a mutual respect, though it's a muture. All right,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: let's get back to the phones paths five hundred. We
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: got some people hanging on there. We'll start with Eldred
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred? Hey, fella, lady, how
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: y'all doing? Yeah, but so long, I forgot what I
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: was going. Did you enjoy hearing from Andy? Yeah? Heard
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: Andy ill at him, but I know he had to leave.
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: Small bit. But me and Andy, I will us to
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: fight a little bit. I don't on the phone. I'm
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: on the radio also too. So Deuce, you wasn't the
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: first one. You got the second between sucking and third
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: back in the day till we started agreeing on things.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: But h I was listening to y'all earlier. You know, Deuce,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: you kept saying, you look, you're waiting for Mac to
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: you don take that next step, Bride. I met. I
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: saw some of the game, and I feel like he
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: was off a lot, you know, not reading or whatever.
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: I want to take those chump plays. But um, and
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: did I hear you bring up the other teams in
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: the offense, like Mammy's scoring them forties and then Raiders
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: But they lost the game. And then even the Jets
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: coming up with score. But both of those guys, like
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: I said, begin and I'm not jumping on Matt, Patricia
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: and Judd, but they got OLDC, real old C. And
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: you're like the Cowboys, not the cowboys. But uh, Buffalo,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: they got a quarterback. He used to be a quarterback first,
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: but do this first year called him plays and he
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: got Buffalo running like like a table throwing the running
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: the plays. So it's old you know. It's knowing the
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: offense and the onion onneion about it. So that's what
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: I keep thinking to be whole back. But I want
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: just the field in the first place. But we got Matt,
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: so well, you still might getting my chans topic. It
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: wasn't never to what you said, do I said, you
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: still might get justin field. Let you see justin field.
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: If we followed, if we followed this year in the
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: top five, I should be j Stroup. Okay, I can't.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Can we stop it? Stop it with picking in the area. Yeah,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: stop it all right, Okay, thanks Eldred, all right, you too?
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: Oh man, I like I got an email before the
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: show someone you should check out this quarterback from Holy Cross.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, Sluca. I'm not even gonna read it.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Come on, you know, I'm gonna go scout him in
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: a couple of weeks. But they're picking in the top five,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: top ten of the draft. Thing. Whenever I come in
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: on Wednesday, me it might do a little debrief right
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: over at the desks and we give out our takes
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: that we've been sitting on for two days, and we
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: went through the schedule because I think our both of
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: our takeaways was Okay, they're not gonna lose to Mitch Drubisky,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: right like they We'll see about Lamar, We'll see about
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers in two weeks in Green Bay. But they're
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: not gonna lose to the Mitchell Drubisky's the world. And
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: when you start to go through their schedule, especially that
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: middle stretch where they have Jared Goff and Jacobe Brissette
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: and whoever the Jets trot out there and some of
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: these quarterbacks, like they're gonna backdoor in a six or
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: seven wins, right Like, I mean, they're not going to
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: just sit there and lose to Joe Flacco or Zach
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Wilson and the Jets. They're not going to I'm not
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: ready to say that anymore. The way, I'm not telling
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: you they're gonna lose all of those games. But I
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: originally I had them all wins. I do not have
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: them all wins. Now I would say all wins, but
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: I would be pretty surprised if they get torch defensively
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: by any of those quarterbacks, as long as they stay healthy. Obviously,
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: chic to me, you can't lose that game. And I
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: don't see them losing to the Jets at home. I
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: don't think you can lose that game. But the others,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, it's certainly intriguing with the
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: point totals that some of these teams are pointing up,
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: where the Patriots just can't seem to sniff thirty, much
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: less twenty. And what if Detroit, Okay, maybe they don't
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: get thirty because Bill, yeah, you know, does a good
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: job against Goff. What if they get into the high
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: twenties and as bad as True and as bad as
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: True Whisky was probably the worst quarterback they'll face this year.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: It was a three point game, you know it was
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: it was Harry like you know, like that wasn't because
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: of Truebisky? Wow? Was it? In spite of him. I mean, no,
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: it's because the offense good. You know. Yeah, let's go
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: to Sean and Vancouver. What's up Sean, Hey, I'm friend.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: They got two things. One, I want to see the
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: offensive line play a little better in terms of cutting
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: down on penalties. To sure, they did great blocking and
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: given protection, but there were two penalties called and there
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: should have been a third one on Brown in the
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: two minutes left in the first half. He definitely jumped
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: on that and they didn't call it. The other thing,
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: but you're correct, the Patriots don't have the advantage at
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: home anymore. It doesn't matter if it's home or on
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: the road. Like last year they were six and oh
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: on the road until mid December. So their their record
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: at home, and it's like you said, like you thought,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: it's it's not very good like over the past two
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: years or eight and nine. So that's that's when I
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: agree with you on that for sure. Yeah, it used
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: to be Patriots had a home game, but that was
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: that's not that way any Brady. Yeah, I mean, Brady,
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: I mean I was just lining up the teams too
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: that they were playing in those games, and you know,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: perhaps they were playing better teams at home than they
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: were when they were going on the road. And you know,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: but I don't know. I mean, it's a whole home
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: opener against a really good team. So well that last
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: year for sure, like you know, you played Dallas in
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: Tampa at home, there was a tougher games than you know,
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: the games that you had on the road earlier in
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: the year against you know, the Jets in Houston. Yeah,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: thanks Sean. Let's go to Christian in LA. What's up Christian? Hey, guys,
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: what are you doing today? Good? Are you landing or what? So?
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: Question for you guys. Have had anybody seen working out
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: or is he working out? And also what's going out
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: with pre Strong? It seems like these are two two
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: players that could add some speed and some pop to
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: our offense. But I know they're hurt and is there
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: any news on them? No, no news, no news. Her
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Strong's not hurt. Player in the game Sunday he returned
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: to kick he wasn't on the right. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: I mean we were talking about me like working those
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: guys more into the offensively, do have this noticed speed
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: that we all thought in the preseason? You have you
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: guys held any planned to try to get those guys
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: when he gets back more involved. Yeah, I think when
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Thornton's ready, you know, but that's gonna be at least
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: another month, right probably why That's what me and everyone
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: talking about that up stair weeks of three weeks he's got,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: he's got to be on IR for two more games,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: and then when when he got hurt, they were optimistic
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: that he maybe could come back after the fourth game
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: after sitting out Green Bay, and come back for Week five.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: We'll see, though, the Patriots, especially with younger players rookies,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: I don't know if they'll push it for him to
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: be back out there right away, but I think I'm
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: cautiously excited about the way they use Nelson Aglo in
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: that game with I posted his route char a lot
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: of crossers, vertical routes, letting him have opportunities to use
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: his speed. And the next step to that, I think
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: is when Taekwon comes back. Now you have Taikwon and
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: Nelson Aglore out there at the same time, and hopefully
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: that can actually bring some real vertical and horizontal stretch
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: to your your offense, which they really haven't had since
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe seventeen with Brandon Cooks like it's
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: been a long time since they've had that, so intrigued
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: by what they did with Aglare and hopefully that next
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: step will be pairing him with Tae Kwon. And you
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: look at their first down package with with LJ and
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: DeVante Parker and a tight end out there, it's still
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: really slow. So if we can get some speed on
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: the field with Taekwon coming back, I'll be excited about
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: how do you who do you pull snaps from? Though,
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: you know, like when he comes back, I mean, feelings
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: are going to get hurt somebody client, Like it's probably
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: not gonna be him, realistically, like it's unfortunately going to
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: be probably Kendrick and it should be Parker though right
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: like as of right now, and when Taekwon comes back
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: to me, if he's not one hundred and ten percent
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: and you don't want to push it with the shoulder,
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: I would just be okay with him running windsprints outside,
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: Like just put him on the field and let him
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: stretch the defense and run through coverage because DeVante Parker
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: is not doing it, like he's not putting any fear
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: into anybody, but even just Taekwon going out there and
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: running four two by people. Maybe that would at least
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: give them some stretch and then you can open up
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: things from there. So yeah, I would. I would love
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: to see Tai Kwon immediately involved. I don't know if
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: he will be it. Come goes back to Nikkil Harry
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen when he was on IR to start
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: the season. They bring him back, and I think it
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: took a game or two before they even had him
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: out there at any type of role. So I do
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: the New York thing and say that is there a
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: budding issue in that wide receiver room? Like if Parker
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: continues to play and Borne continues to not get any attention.
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: Clearly the quarterback loves Born. Every time he goes in
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: the game, he throws it to him. Yeah right, I
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: mean he's played twenty six snaps and been targeted five times. Yeah,
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: something like that. You know, it's only a game more
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: complicated from this point too. You know, Parker plays every
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: snap and he's been targeted four times. You know, I'm like,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: but it's like, you got to defer to Mac. I
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: feel like, like, you know, if Max throwing it to
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: a MA likes this guy, this is my point to
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: him you know, I don't know New York. This would
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: be huge. Yeah, like like your boy the Urine Stream
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: would be tossing bombs and the Wide used to have
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: his his blog was the jet Stream and Fred used
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: to call it the year. We're very mean Here on
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: Neil and New Brunswick. After watching the Patriots and then
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: watching the Bills and Eagles games Monday, I wanted to
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: send a real negative email, but we won and we
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: should enjoy the win. Here is what I where I
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: see this team is stuck. I think the issue I
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: see is in today's NFL, you can compete if you
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: have an elite quarterback and good weapons. You can also
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: compete if you have a good quarterback in elite weapons.
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: These are general examples. Don't tear them to shreds. The
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: Patriots right now are stuck in good and good. Nothing
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: on our team is terrible, but nothing is elite. Something
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: has to change or we're forever stuck in eight nine
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: and eight territory. My problem is I don't trust our
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: GM to go get elite weapons. And he seems to
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: like Mac holding out hope for Thornton. Yeah, I mean
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: I think that's I don't argue with that, you know, Yeah,
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: I mean I think it's do hold out hope for
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Thornton because I think we all anybody who watched practice
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: this summer was intrigued by him and how quickly he
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: seemed to be picking it up, and you know, just
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: the speed translated. He just no matter what Drillly was doing,
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: he looks quick. You know, I was. I was more
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: impressed with his hands. I thought he showed really good
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: hands and good good yeah, good strong hands you know,
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: to make not just easy catches, but you know, like
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: Evan said, like snayering the ball, tracking it over his
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: shoulder effectively. UM. As an example, the Parker bomb the
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: other day was over the wrong shoulder. Now, I'm not
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: suggesting that Parker should have caught that ball, because he shouldn't.
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: It was way off, but I saw it and make
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: catches on balls like that in training camp not quite
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: that far off. But to Evan's point, tracking the ball
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: effectively over the wrong shoulder is not easy, and he
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: did that several times in camp, especially with the helmet on.
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: That was just my impress'd you put the helmet on,
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: the helmet on him, like screw, this deuce is in
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: a bad place. When the helmet goes on. Evan, I
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: don't know what we can we relax about Buffalo. Please,
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: it's been two games, but we've all it's actually been
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: three years. But it hasn't been three years. It's been
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: two games. And on top of it being just two games,
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: you know how many times I've we have seen, especially offense,
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: come out in September and look unstoppable. Andy Reid is
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: like notorious for this. Usually when that happens, the teams
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: are perfect. I don't even think they've played well yet.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: I think they'll leaven all kinds of points on the field.
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: I just think that let's let's pump the brakes on
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: the seven Patriots comps for sure, the brakes and see it.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: I'm not saying there's been three years since you've even
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: gotten a new way. I'm not setting the Patriots are close.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: I'm not saying that the Bills aren't a super Bowl
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: favorite right now. I'm just saying the seventeen and no
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: talk the seven Patriot talk like, let's let's relax. They
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: look pretty good. I don't think, I don't think. I
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: don't think the goal was the seventeen the two thousand
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: and seven Patriots, let's just put it that way. I
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: don't think they want to do that. Well, they want
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: to win a super and they are I mean they
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: right now that there you know, it's them in Kansas
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: City in the end, if they wanted to be the
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: seven Patriots, Josh Allen would have played the fourth quarter
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: the other night and they would have put sixty on
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: the board. They don't have any interest in setting records
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: and talk to me and being shining. No, it's it's fair.
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: But like you have to admit, right now, they look
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: pretty damn they look fantastic and they've been red hot
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: basically since well, since the Wind game, since yeah, since
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: the Win game, since the Isaiah McKenzie game, they've been unbelievable.
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: Josh Allen's been unbelievable as well. I think that you know,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: the emailer mentioned the situation there with Dorsey. Basically it's
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: the same offense, right' it's it might as well be
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: Brian because that's the huge advantage, right. So, the way
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: that they transitioned was so smooth because of the fact
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: that they didn't change anything. Basically, it's the same thing
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: that Brady got the luxury of, even though he had
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: multiple offensive coordinators, he only had one system that's right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: And they just have a team of the look of
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: a team where everybody knows what they're doing and they're
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: all buying in and no matter it feels like, no
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: matter who they're gonna slip in there, they're gonna I'm
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: not telling you they're gonna win anything, because injuries can
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: change all of that stuff. And the way that Josh
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: Allen plays leaves him open to an injury. There's no
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: question about it if they stay relatively healthy, because they
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: already have a bunch of guys that are good that
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: haven't played. Davis White hasn't played yet, Gabe Davis missed
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: the game the other night. They're already missing players. Another
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: cornerback who um is that? Dane Jackson looks like the
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: avoided major injury with that was really scary. Um got
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: hit with his own guy, Edmonds. You lose four or
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: five guys and that's gonna hurt you. But with that team,
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: they have the depth to overcome that. They don't have
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: the depth to overcome if it's Josh Allen, they would
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: be significantly hindered. If it's Steph Diggs that you know
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: He's the I think, the driving force behind everything else
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: that happens due so like every I mean, like Tavan's point,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: you got a couple of injuries in the middle of
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: the year, and all of a sudden you stagnate, you
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: lose a couple of games, and you know, and the
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: outlook changes. But if they're healthy, they're the best team
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: in the league. They had the best roster, the best
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: rosy and their defense. I did not believe at all
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: in last year. I know what they finished. They finished
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: ranked one. I think they were a bad deep not
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: only I don't think they were a great defense. I
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: don't even think they were good, especially after White got hurt.
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: They're different now with Von von Miller makes them a
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: different team up front. They rotate all those defensive linemen.
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: I thought Ed Oliver was great in the first game.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: Another guy who got hurt didn't play the other night.
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: No difference. Um Derrick Henry kills that team, kills that
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: team the other night. They they had all kinds of
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: guys around him. But again, Pointer and Hyde, very important guys.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: They lose, they lose one of those guys obviously, Josh
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: Allen Diggs. Yeah, you're looking at a different story, even
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: Matt Milano, I think is really important. Joe writes in
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: I don't think y'all mentioned how Lil Jordan played more
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: and had a play that Mac didn't see him. What
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: are your thoughts on him anymore? Does this push Born
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: back further as a receiver? No specials, they ran the book.
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: He's more of a blogger. He's kind of the Nikkeil
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: Harry he got. He got twelve of his snaps in
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: the last twelve plays of the game, and that sort
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: of pushed him ahead of yeah, the other guys, But no,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: I don't think he's ahead of Born in the passing game.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: That's one time where it really feels like game plan specific.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: Like sometimes when they say game plan that guy doesn't play,
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: You're like, it's one of the things, like you can't
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: just do one thing the way they try to do.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: You know that that's a hard way to score, and
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: they haven't scored in two games. I liked the little
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: Jordan wrinkle though. I thought that was smart because when
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: they had Hunter Henry and Johnny Smith on the field
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: together against Miami, the numbers were terrible in twelve personnel
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: and they were actually pretty bad in twelve personnel last
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: year too. It really hasn't been a super productive personnel
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: grouping for them, and Little Jordan maybe a little bit
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: more athletic, a little bit faster to the spot. Had
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: eighteen yard Harris run on the last drive? Like does
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: Hunter Henry make that block? Does he? Does he get
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: there and seal Edmonds inside? I don't know little Jordan does.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: So you feel Little Jordan's like a plus blocker, Yeah, definitely. Yeah,
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: at least I'm from what he's shown us some tight
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: end in the summer. Yeah. Bill Belichick called him a
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: tight end, tight end ish I did on the broadcast
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: first Justin and Buffalo. Speaking of Buffalo, he says, big fan,
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: love the work. Um stumbled on the show about a
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: year and a half ago. Hasn't missed it. Since I'm younger,
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: I've never been able to attend a Page's game, uh,
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: due to them being far away, and I don't want
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: to go to the Buffalo environment. But he's got tickets
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: to the Cleveland game in week six, so good for you.
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: My topic is, you don't want to go to the
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: Buffalo environment, but you're choosing Cleveland's. How much do you
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: guys look how much do you guys love the newer
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: offense without Josh McDaniels. Do you think that it has
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: ever has a chance to look in or perform better
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: than are equal to the Josh McDaniels system with this
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: current group of guys when he was here in New England,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: I don't I know the answer to that. I love it,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: you know love, I love it. I though, I thought
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: me when me and Never were talking upstairs, he had
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: an interesting point of like, I just score points. I
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: don't give a crap. What the least come scheme is?
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: Just come close to score points. But I thought Evan
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: had an interesting comment upstairs, which I'll let him expound upon.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: But he said, right now, it feels like an offense
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: designed by defensive guys. It's a great line. Why you
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: had these lines? Why don't have to hear about pin
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: and pull? I don't want to hear about pin and
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: pull for twenty minutes like that? I could talk pin
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: pull for two hours twenty minutes. That's a that's a
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: great one. It's like the least analytical thing he's ever said,
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: so groundbreaking. So now I'm going to talk about it
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: for forty five one minute. They got five. I think
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: the biggest thing is is that you look at them
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: reverse engineering certain things right where it's like, Okay, we
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: know we're playing Brian Flores, right, we know he's gonna
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: play man coverage against us, So we're gonna empty the
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: bag of all the man coverage beaters that we have
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: in our arsenal. We're gonna run levels, we're gonna run dagger,
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: we're gonna run crossers, we're gonna run verticals, and one
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: of them might work, and we're gonna make you, guys,
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: We're gonna tack outside leverage all day long. Right, the
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: corners is gonna sit outside leverage and cover one. We're
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: gonna run in breaking routes and it worked better than
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: one time. And this is we're gonna make Jacobe Myers
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: ripped the ball away from the defensive back. Yes that
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: it happens sometimes and were but we're gonna have the
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: man beaters dialed up. I also would say that their
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: run game script has worked two weeks in a row,
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: although it faded against Miami, the plan that has worked,
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: and I think that that comes down to Matt Patricia
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: understanding techniques, fits and all that stuff by the defense
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: and what their rules and how to expose them are.
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: But the problem is is that the Patriots black creativity
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: because they don't really have an offensive minded coach in
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: that huddle to really get the juices for the other
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: team says, Okay, this is what they're doing. Let's see
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: if we can do something to mitigate that. We don't
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: have a response. Right, they don't have a response, and
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: they're dead last in play action, they're dead last in motion.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: They're are not a creative offense right now, They're a
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: stagnant offense. But but they are really good at understanding
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: this is what the coverage is, and if we put
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: a receiver here and we put a receiver there, we're
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: gonna flood the zone and we're gonna have an open guy. Like,
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: they understand the rules and how to reverse engineer the
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: game plan, but they are missing that creative juice. They're
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: missing that to give themselves an early advantage or you know,
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: to to use some disguise to put their guys in
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: better position even if they believe in what the play is,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: trying to make it easier on them, that kind of thing. Yeah,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: and you look at you know, I harp a lot
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: on motion at the snap right jet motion or a
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: bit whatever it is, and people say, oh, well, why
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: is it so important? So the top five teams in
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: the league right now in motion at the snap are
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: the top five offenses in the league pretty much, right.
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: I mean, they have one coming in on Sunday with
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: Baltimore that's second in the league in motion at the snap.
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: Miami's number one. They just put up forty points in
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: a game against the Ravens. Right, Chiefs are always up there,
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: The Niners are always up there. Like some of the
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: more well architected offenses in the league use motion now
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: when you're changing coaching staffs and you're changing playbooks a
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: little bit, maybe all that bells and whistles is like
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: graduate level and they're just like not there yet. But
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: the Patriots are the most stagnant offense in the NFL
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: right now, and basically what it's making players do is
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: win one on ones all the time, Like you're getting
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: no help from the scheme whatsoever, and you just have
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: to win beat the guy in front of you every
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: single gid is why do you think that they've been
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: reluctant to use like motion seems like a pretty elementary
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: it wasn't something that they necessarily majored in with Bick Daniels. Either,
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: they shift right so before the ball is snapped, they'll
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: bring Jacoby for I'm here over there, and then he settles.
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about, right,
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: I'm just explaining it to the listeners. I know you,
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: I mean, but motion, like it doesn't seem like, well,
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: we got to walk before we can run, Like, that's
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: not like motion. Isle's like, I mean, you watch any
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: Pop Warnery game, you'll see motion. Yeah, you got that
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: in the Fenwick playbook. Probably lots will Perula goes in
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: motion quite often. He never gets the ball, but he
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: goes in motion a lot. It's more of a decal
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: and the numbers bear it out that teams that use
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: motion and teams that use play action are at a
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: huge advantage. Like they may make more yards than everybody else, right,
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: Like it's it's really producing. But it's an element. But yeah,
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: I mean, you know Kansas City does a lot of that.
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: And what is that just because they're better offenses too,
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: you know, like they're better designed. Are we looking at
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: the wrong reason? Or they're good because they have motion? No,
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: they're good and they use motion, you know, But but
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: are they good because they're confusing you with the quote
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: unquote I candy that everybody talks about. All yeah, they're
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: getting you to focus on something you shouldn't be focusing. Yeah,
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: I don't know. Let me play with you this way.
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: When Andy Reid, Sean McVeagh, and Kyle Shanahan all believe
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: in motion, who are probably the three best offensive coaches
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: in football, and their teams are consistently at the top
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: of the league in motion, that tells you that it
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: might be a good thing. A lot of times, like
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill, how does he get wide open on a play?
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: And I'm thinking to myself, you know, he's got to
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: be the focal point of everything you do. Well, maybe
- 2:00:26Speaker 1: you know, I remember the play in the opening week
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: against against Miami when he comes across in motion, ran
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: off Jonathan Jones like nothing, you know, twenty five yards?
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: But does that does that have anything to do with motion? Well,
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: a lot of times motion is not necessarily confused. Just
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: it's for the quarterback to see what coverage are they in.
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: That's that's the reaction to our motion. That is another thing.
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: But I've actually heard a lot of people say that
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: that's not as elementary as people make it out. Yeah, Like,
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: if you follow the guy in motion, you're in man.
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: A lot of times defenses will the Patriots love to
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: do that. Right on defense, you get followed, but it's
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: their corners and their dbs are taught to play every
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: single spot in the coverage, so if it comes in motion,
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: they get quarterbacks with that all They got a Baker.
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger picked off Baker last year in that Cleveland game,
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: and it got exact same thing. Guy came in motion,
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: guy followed him and ended up being zoned and he
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: throws it right into the zone. So I think that
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: the you look at just again, all of these great
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: offenses around the league, and I think that Tyree Hill
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: plays such a great example because they from one side
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: of the formation, they missed, emotion them all the way across,
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: and then send them out the other side of the formation.
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: This is Tyree Hill against man coverage. Jonathan Jones like
- 2:01:40Speaker 1: good luck? Like who is Like who is you know,
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: without question, the focal point of the defensive game point. Yeah,
- 2:01:47Speaker 1: Like I know Bill Belichick. I've watched him for twenty
- 2:01:50Speaker 1: plus two years. I know who we went into that
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: game right to stop and he still got a hundred yards.
- 2:01:55Speaker 1: And it's difficult too when you have the motion, especially
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: at the snap, if you have like a double or
- 2:02:00Speaker 1: bracket call or something like that. On now, all of
- 2:02:02Speaker 1: a sudden, it changes everything, right, and in a split second,
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: you might have to change where the help is or
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: where the leverage is for the corner, and it could
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: change your entire structure. So that those are the types
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: of things that it really threatens. And I keep I'll
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: keep harping on it. I mean, I just they need
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: to have more bells and whistles in this offense. Otherwise
- 2:02:20Speaker 1: we're going to score seventeen points every week. All right,
