- 0:32Speaker 1: Okay, Well, I'm getting married this fall and there's something
- 0:37Speaker 1: that I've been carrying and I haven't told anyone.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Uh oh, well, I was going to see congrats on
- 0:42Speaker 2: getting married, but I guess not. Well, I mean congrats.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Does this have to do with your fiance or something?
- 0:47Speaker 1: The marriage? No? No, no, the marriage part is great.
- 0:50Speaker 1: All right, you're happy. It's good. That part I'm I
- 0:53Speaker 1: am not worried about. I know it's the right choice,
- 0:55Speaker 1: but my parents got divorced when I was twelve, and
- 0:58Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie it like totally tore me up.
- 1:01Speaker 1: And so from that point on, basically my dad disappeared
- 1:05Speaker 1: from my life. But growing up, I was always told
- 1:08Speaker 1: the same story, like he was a bad husband, he
- 1:11Speaker 1: hurt my mom, and that narrative came from my mom
- 1:13Speaker 1: and my grandparents, and I never questioned it. So I
- 1:17Speaker 1: just accepted my dad was the villain, right, and I
- 1:19Speaker 1: moved on, at least I tried to move on. But
- 1:23Speaker 1: a lot of kids raised by one parents parent like
- 1:25Speaker 1: it's they get curious and they like want to know
- 1:28Speaker 1: their other parents. I feel like that's pretty natural, right. Yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I was one of those kids, and I got older
- 1:34Speaker 1: and maybe shouldn't have done this part, but I did
- 1:38Speaker 1: my own research and I found out that basically that
- 1:44Speaker 1: wasn't the truth. The truth was that my mom was
- 1:47Speaker 1: the one who stepped out, not my dad. Wow. And
- 1:51Speaker 1: the reason, I mean, it's pretty heavy, right, Yeah. The
- 1:56Speaker 1: reason was that he wasn't in my life was because
- 1:58Speaker 1: it wasn't because he didn't care, which sort of made
- 2:00Speaker 1: me feel good, right, you know that you did not
- 2:03Speaker 1: want me, But it was because he had been pushed
- 2:06Speaker 1: out by my mom And the story was only ever
- 2:09Speaker 1: told for me from one side.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Right, and this I feel like this happens. I mean
- 2:13Speaker 2: I've heard of this happening before. So you feel like
- 2:15Speaker 2: you've been lied to?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I mean for a large part of my life,
- 2:20Speaker 1: a lot of you know, a lot of it has
- 2:22Speaker 1: been like all from my mom's side and her side.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And I mean, I love my mom. She did the
- 2:26Speaker 1: best she could, you know, but like finding that lieout
- 2:30Speaker 1: like totally broke me. But like I feel this like
- 2:32Speaker 1: over overwhelming need to make it up for all that
- 2:35Speaker 1: lost time that I had without my dad, right, and
- 2:39Speaker 1: I want to know my dad and I want him
- 2:41Speaker 1: in my wife. So that said, like, I mean, this
- 2:44Speaker 1: is not with any malice, but I invited my dad
- 2:48Speaker 1: to my wedding.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Oh really, And nobody knows this yet.
- 2:55Speaker 1: No, no, nobody knows this yet. I mean I know it,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and my dad knows it. But that's it. I know.
- 3:01Speaker 1: It's bad kind of like it could blow up my
- 3:03Speaker 1: whole family. Yeah, and it might cause some serious tension
- 3:08Speaker 1: on like my day, on like our wedding day. I
- 3:11Speaker 1: don't know, but honestly I don't. I don't even care
- 3:13Speaker 1: anymore because I lost so many years with him that
- 3:17Speaker 1: it was not my choice it was their choice and
- 3:20Speaker 1: someone else's version of this story, and I want to
- 3:22Speaker 1: know the whole thing, and I want a relationship with him.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I mean, really,
- 3:28Speaker 2: it's it's your day if you want to do. I
- 3:31Speaker 2: don't think you should blindside your mom, right, I think
- 3:34Speaker 2: you should probably talk to your mom about it. I
- 3:35Speaker 2: don't think maybe it should be up for debate on
- 3:37Speaker 2: what you want to do. I should just think that
- 3:39Speaker 2: you should be honest with her and say this is
- 3:41Speaker 2: how I feel. I hold no resentment towards you, I know,
- 3:43Speaker 2: because you know, even though you heard this side of
- 3:45Speaker 2: the truth, who knows what the real truth is. I
- 3:47Speaker 2: don't think there's anything wrong with him want you know,
- 3:49Speaker 2: you wanting him at your wedding. That makes sense, Yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 2: that's fair. But just your mom knowing is also part
- 3:55Speaker 2: of it, because you have to be prepared. What if
- 3:57Speaker 2: she somehow decides she doesn't want to go or yeah around.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Him, gosh, I mean, I mean, I mean that's why
- 4:03Speaker 1: I haven't told anyone yet. I don't like I kind
- 4:06Speaker 1: of feel like, you know, just wait and like ask
- 4:08Speaker 1: for forgiveness instead of permission, you know what, I mean,
- 4:11Speaker 1: it is my wedding. I should get what I want
- 4:14Speaker 1: on my wedding day.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You know you should. But you know, I mean, I
- 4:18Speaker 2: don't think there's I do think that if that happens,
- 4:21Speaker 2: she is going to be upset. Yeah, the vibe of
- 4:24Speaker 2: the wedding could be thrown and prep your fiance because
- 4:28Speaker 2: you know, you gotta prep everybody.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, he's coming into some.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Everybody close to you. I mean, how do you think
- 4:34Speaker 2: your mom would react if you pull her aside and
- 4:36Speaker 2: you're like, listen, I've been talking to my dad. I know,
- 4:39Speaker 2: you know, I've heard two sides of this story, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: I want him at the wedding and I don't want
- 4:43Speaker 2: her to be drama. How do you think she would react?
- 4:45Speaker 1: I mean, I think she'll feel betrayed and she'll be
- 4:48Speaker 1: like pissed, but also like, you know, kind of like
- 4:51Speaker 1: she's caught because this has been a lie. But I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 1: I don't know, she doesn't even recognize that she's done
- 4:56Speaker 1: anything wrong. I don't think, right, she just thinks that,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know, she's been telling the same story for so
- 5:01Speaker 1: long that she thinks that's what went down. That's not
- 5:04Speaker 1: the truth. She was the one who was like I'm
- 5:06Speaker 1: taking my job and I'm gone, wow, Wow.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Well, I mean, listen, it's your day, it's your day.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Whoever you want there should be there. And I'm sure
- 5:15Speaker 2: people listen there's someone out there who's been in a
- 5:17Speaker 2: situation like this where yeah, well, I don't want you
- 5:20Speaker 2: to talk to your dad. He's a bad guy, but
- 5:22Speaker 2: you want to know who your dad is.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I mean, I deserve to know the truth, no matter
- 5:25Speaker 1: what that is.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And I was the same way too. Yeah, I was
- 5:28Speaker 2: twelve anymore. Yeah, my mom didn't speak bad about my father,
- 5:31Speaker 2: but I knew the kind of guy he was because
- 5:33Speaker 2: I was old enough to figure it out. But I
- 5:35Speaker 2: still wanted to know him. Yeah, and I still wanted
- 5:37Speaker 2: to talk to him and see what he was all about,
- 5:39Speaker 2: because one, he's my dad.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Let us know what happens. And I think prepping some
- 5:46Speaker 2: everyone on what's going to happen and that he's coming
- 5:48Speaker 2: might actually help you too, because otherwise I think you'll
- 5:51Speaker 2: be anxious all day. That a day you should be enjoyed.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you should know how everyone feels before you show up.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that way you know you're not walking into any surprises,
- 5:59Speaker 2: and you kind of you know, prepare yourself and manage
- 6:01Speaker 2: that drama first. So but do it, do it, and
- 6:04Speaker 2: let us know, let us know what happens. And congratulations.
- 6:06Speaker 2: This should be a happy time.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I'm happy. I'm just like, oh God,
- 6:10Speaker 1: what have I done?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Well, you're following your heart, nothing wrong with that, and
- 6:15Speaker 2: uh and good luck?
- 6:16Speaker 1: Okay, okay, thanks.
- 6:18Speaker 2: You see all this drama when it comes to getting married.
- 6:20Speaker 2: You see how much drama weddings cause. Yeah, why we
- 6:23Speaker 2: got to do that? Why can't we just like pinky promise?
- 6:28Speaker 1: No, Okay,
