- 0:08Speaker 3: Costumes are character Buck, Mary Kill wide shot, two shot,
- 0:13Speaker 3: close up.
- 0:13Speaker 1: This is artist on artists on artists on artists. Do
- 0:17Speaker 1: you know why they call it show business?
- 0:18Speaker 3: I always wondered that.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Welcome back to artists on artists on artists on Christmas.
- 0:30Speaker 1: That's right. This week we have a very special reunion
- 0:34Speaker 1: panel of a Christmas movie you know and love.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Arthur Rankin Junior and Jules Bass created some of the
- 0:41Speaker 4: most beloved Christmas films of all time, including Rudolph the
- 0:45Speaker 4: Red Nose Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, and
- 0:48Speaker 4: nineteen seventy three's The Christmas Crab.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Nothing captures the childhood imagination quite like claymation. And we
- 0:56Speaker 3: gathered some of the people that help bring Christmas Crab
- 1:00Speaker 3: to life. So let's get ho ho ho, and let's go.
- 1:07Speaker 1: My name is a Betty da Boop and I played
- 1:12Speaker 1: Donny that Christmas Crab.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I tell you, man, it's great to see you here, Betty.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Great to see you're Betty great to see everyone here.
- 1:22Speaker 2: My name is George Philbo and I was the head
- 1:28Speaker 2: stop motion animator on the Christmas Crab, also a screenwriter,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and I helped write the film.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Good to talk y'all. Uh, it is I good to
- 1:39Speaker 3: see you all the back here. It is a Heinz Klein.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I was the lead claimation artist on Is It Christmas Crab? Hi,
- 1:49Speaker 3: I'm Paul Tayfer I did. I was the lead audio
- 1:55Speaker 3: engineer for Christmas Crab.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I'm so happy to see that we all dressed up
- 1:59Speaker 1: for Chrish. Just a bunch of Christmas heads in this house.
- 2:04Speaker 2: If you can't see it, because I know this is
- 2:06Speaker 2: an audio medium, which I think we're all used to that.
- 2:09Speaker 2: It's a part from Betty. I've I've always loved Betty's laugh.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I've always loved it. I've always We're wearing a bunch
- 2:20Speaker 2: of outfitts to celebrate the holiday. I remember when I
- 2:23Speaker 2: was working for Artie and Jewels ranking in Bass. I
- 2:28Speaker 2: remember we used to always wear Christmas outfits all year round.
- 2:32Speaker 2: It was mandatory.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Yeah, there's nothing I love more than Christmas.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Paul.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I've I've got to say, I've been holding on to
- 2:44Speaker 1: this since nineteen seventy three. I don't know if I
- 2:47Speaker 1: believe you. No, I love Christmas so much.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Paul's smoking in here. I didn't know we could smoke
- 2:57Speaker 2: in here.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Let us talk about it. Is it Christmas?
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 3:00Speaker 3: I love the Christmas Crab. For me, it was one
- 3:03Speaker 3: of my first films to head his acclamation. I was
- 3:06Speaker 3: in charge of, you know, designing and helping move all
- 3:11Speaker 3: the pieces back and forth and over and over again
- 3:15Speaker 3: to develop the Christmas Crab story.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Heines. It's so funny to see Heines again because we
- 3:20Speaker 2: came up with this idea together. Yeah. Yeah, I wrote
- 3:24Speaker 2: the script. I had a funny little run in with
- 3:27Speaker 2: this nasty crab on the beach and I was there
- 3:32Speaker 2: with my girlfriend at the time, and we had a
- 3:34Speaker 2: whole situation. I was wearing my sweater because I was
- 3:36Speaker 2: coming from work and the cross down.
- 3:38Speaker 3: In Venice before Venice was Venice.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I was down in Venice and the crab got into
- 3:42Speaker 2: my sweatshirt. And I remember I came back from swimming
- 3:46Speaker 2: in the ocean and I went to go put on
- 3:48Speaker 2: the sweater and there was a crab in there. And
- 3:51Speaker 2: I went to class and I said, hey, Klass, we
- 3:53Speaker 2: got we got to try this.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember because I was on the beach too.
- 3:58Speaker 3: It was a lovely family holiday. We went down to
- 4:01Speaker 3: the beach with you and your your wife at the.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Time at the time.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah, And I saw it as a crab, and you'll
- 4:08Speaker 3: freak out. You go like, oh, it's a crab inside,
- 4:12Speaker 3: you know. So then then you go, we have to
- 4:15Speaker 3: turn this into a movie, and.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Let's do a little plot real quick. Maybe better you
- 4:20Speaker 2: can tell it because we love your voice.
- 4:22Speaker 1: What a gift that I am so glad that you
- 4:25Speaker 1: got attacked by that little crab that faithful day because
- 4:30Speaker 1: this was such a gift. Boop Betty doo boop, that's
- 4:35Speaker 1: my name, dobit bear it out. And it was such
- 4:40Speaker 1: a gift to a voiceover actor like myself because I
- 4:44Speaker 1: had been auditioning for uh breakdowns for Sexy Lady cartoon.
- 4:51Speaker 1: It's Sexy Dame cartoon, It's sexy broad cartoon, and I
- 4:56Speaker 1: just didn't have the voice for it. I didn't have
- 4:58Speaker 1: the voice for it. But and my agent sent me
- 5:01Speaker 1: a Christmas crab. He said, Dottie, this is your last shot.
- 5:07Speaker 1: If you don't fuck this, I'm dropping you.
- 5:10Speaker 3: You sound like a Christmas Crab when you talk.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And boy, oh boy, I don't think I could play
- 5:16Speaker 1: anything else, And it turns out I didn't.
- 5:20Speaker 3: When you came in and read for the Christmas Crab,
- 5:23Speaker 3: I saw it like, oh, this is a crab, you know,
- 5:27Speaker 3: like this is a crab, like we found it, you know.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm so glad that. I'm glad that you had
- 5:33Speaker 1: that inspiration. Well, I mean, of course, and of course
- 5:36Speaker 1: a Christmas Crab is the story to go over the
- 5:38Speaker 1: plot of a little crab who'll gets stuck in Santa
- 5:43Speaker 1: Claus's little.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Coat and he travels around the world delivering presents and.
- 5:50Speaker 2: He's cantankeres as well.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Oh the crab is also there, that crab, you guys.
- 6:00Speaker 1: That's why it's called the Christmas Tres because Christmas the
- 6:03Speaker 1: Crab was along the ride for the.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Journey, yeahs. And he learns a little bit about the
- 6:09Speaker 2: meaning of Christmas. And I remember, do you remember that
- 6:14Speaker 2: line where you talked about Santa Claus and then the
- 6:18Speaker 2: you did the clause? Can you do that line?
- 6:21Speaker 3: Oh?
- 6:21Speaker 1: I remember that line.
- 6:22Speaker 3: It was a song.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Oh would you mind singing it?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Of course? It was your sad and I'm the class.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Can I say when We first had Betty come in
- 6:37Speaker 5: theater levels when we started laying down the because.
- 6:39Speaker 3: You have adjusted the audio engineer.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Yeah, so when it's going to have you here one
- 6:50Speaker 7: of many audio engineers because usually you don't only use
- 6:54Speaker 7: a lot, We're great to see your fall.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Well, you're the last surviving audio in yeah this movie.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah no, when Betty came into the Uh.
- 7:05Speaker 5: When Betty came into the studio, I looked at my
- 7:08Speaker 5: associate at the.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Time, Junior, and I said, buckle up, we got a
- 7:11Speaker 3: new kid in town. I said, this is this kid seems.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Green in my h the Christmas screen. I'll take that
- 7:20Speaker 1: gentle razsing. I'll take that gentle razing because it was Ara.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Where was I.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Going with this? But I'm saying that you. Oh yes,
- 7:32Speaker 1: in my voiceover classes, because I took some voiceover classes
- 7:35Speaker 1: in preparation for this, they used to call me Peaky
- 7:38Speaker 1: the boop because all my audio levels were pinking all day.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Love God, and so I'm sure it was a nightmare
- 7:44Speaker 1: for you.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Oh but we got We worked really well together, Betty
- 7:48Speaker 5: and Uh.
- 7:50Speaker 3: We got in and out, which is the opposite of
- 7:53Speaker 3: building's acclamation. You know, because the voiceover you will do
- 7:57Speaker 3: it right at the end. You know, everything built. A
- 8:00Speaker 3: lot of the time you do a temp one, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 3: you do the temp audio and send Vonce's done and
- 8:05Speaker 3: it's polished. You go back and do the polo.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Betty, how long, just so let's compare the processes. How
- 8:11Speaker 2: long did you do you remember recording the voiceover for
- 8:14Speaker 2: the Christmas crap?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Oh?
- 8:16Speaker 1: I think it took about two three hours, so a long, long, long,
- 8:22Speaker 1: long time.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah. And Klaus, do you remember how long it took
- 8:24Speaker 2: to make the claimation?
- 8:26Speaker 3: It was about fifteen years. Yes, that's correct, fifteen years.
- 8:29Speaker 3: And what about me the audio engineer? You should answer that?
- 8:33Speaker 3: We totally can't answer.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Guess the question.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I want you to do all the.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Character for about two to three hours, so I'm guessing you,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Oh there were multiple characters, yes, okay, and two weeks
- 8:48Speaker 1: six hours okay, so.
- 8:50Speaker 2: About twice the amount of time.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Just listening back to Toloper.
- 8:55Speaker 1: You didn't really adjust anything at all, okay, but much.
- 9:00Speaker 2: So we that that fateful picnic on the beach actually
- 9:05Speaker 2: ended up happening in nineteen fifty eight.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah, because then you went to Walls and you went
- 9:10Speaker 3: to Korea.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I went to Korea and I was in Korea, and
- 9:14Speaker 2: I swear to God, the only thing keeping me alive
- 9:18Speaker 2: was coming home to seeing the progress of Christmas Crap.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I was thinking about it. I should show you my
- 9:25Speaker 2: diaries from that time. They are so vivid. And I
- 9:30Speaker 2: remember I was gone for three years. I went a
- 9:34Speaker 2: wall and I went missing, and I was a pow
- 9:35Speaker 2: and whatever. This isn't why we're here. We don't have
- 9:37Speaker 2: to talk about that.
- 9:38Speaker 3: But and I'd rather you didn't.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, I know that you you don't believe me.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I don't believe you.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I don't want to bring that up. This is good,
- 9:48Speaker 2: it's nice seeing you for the first time in forty years.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But and I and it would be nicer if you
- 9:53Speaker 1: didn't bring up your bogus pow stone.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I don't know why you don't believe me about that.
- 9:59Speaker 1: It doesn't up. I've read about the Korean War and
- 10:03Speaker 1: the facilities that they put those soldiers in, and the
- 10:08Speaker 1: walls you're describing, they aren't the color.
- 10:11Speaker 3: It's so hard to hear the color.
- 10:13Speaker 2: It's so hard to hear the Christmas Crab herself be
- 10:16Speaker 2: so mean to me about my journey.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Really, when you are act of your work, itself sort
- 10:21Speaker 1: of coming back to bite you a real art attacking
- 10:24Speaker 1: the artist.
- 10:25Speaker 3: It must be pretty much like a crab, you know.
- 10:29Speaker 2: But I was gone for three years. I came back.
- 10:31Speaker 2: You had the first four and a half minutes ready,
- 10:34Speaker 2: and I remember seeing it and I remember being blown away. Yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 2: you are such a workhorse, thank you.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Yeah, every day for about twelve to fifteen hours. You know,
- 10:44Speaker 3: I'm just sitting there in my little garage and I
- 10:47Speaker 3: am just just a little bit and just oop and
- 10:51Speaker 3: then I take the picture and then just move a
- 10:55Speaker 3: little bit in yards and I go, I'll pinch a crab.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Time to pinch, and I pinch and then you know,
- 11:01Speaker 3: you've got to build it so slowly because our script
- 11:05Speaker 3: to was what you know, fifteen sixteen pages that each
- 11:08Speaker 3: page takes about a year.
- 11:10Speaker 1: And let me ask you something, hinz. Did you go insane?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah? Seven speriods when I went absolutely insane. You know,
- 11:18Speaker 3: when you when you're making a movie and not really
- 11:20Speaker 3: getting paid for fifteen years, That don't make you go insane,
- 11:24Speaker 3: right because you get paid on the product, paid on
- 11:26Speaker 3: the product once it's delivered per minute, yeah, per minute.
- 11:31Speaker 3: So yeah, there was a couple of years when I
- 11:32Speaker 3: went insane. I would say fifty five to fifty seven.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I was insane. I was insanity. I was very happy
- 11:40Speaker 3: that not all of you saw me, because you saw
- 11:43Speaker 3: me when I was sane, just one time, you know.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I saw you one time. I'll never forget it.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I have really long hair. I was screaming, screaming, screaming
- 11:51Speaker 3: like God, go you go.
- 11:55Speaker 2: And what's crazy is you were screaming at the figures.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going, go faster, you need to move
- 12:00Speaker 3: faster home. That's so sad, and screaming in German. Yeah,
- 12:07Speaker 3: so so yeah, very very stressful, but all in all,
- 12:11Speaker 3: Christmas classic. So I was very happy.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and ranking a bass were they jumping around to
- 12:17Speaker 2: different projects because for me, you know, I was the
- 12:19Speaker 2: head of Christmas Crab and so I didn't have to
- 12:22Speaker 2: worry about that.
- 12:23Speaker 3: No, Yeah, I was working on three or four other
- 12:25Speaker 3: projects at the same time, you know. So I would
- 12:27Speaker 3: move the crab, take a picture, moves the goat for
- 12:31Speaker 3: Goat revenge, take a picture, go over, you know moves.
- 12:36Speaker 5: Yeah, for an hour or two, that was the whole thing. Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 5: you brought me in for the Goat ad R. I
- 12:46Speaker 5: think we have a clip with that of Goat Revenge.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah, this Goat here's calls for album and that's the
- 13:00Speaker 3: you worked on.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I got in at about three pm out by five.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Goat a d R. I wanted to ask you about that.
- 13:06Speaker 2: So did the goat loop over itself? Don't have to
- 13:11Speaker 2: do it? And the previously done.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So it was early in my career.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Got into the studio and you said do what you
- 13:22Speaker 1: did and wasn't good at it?
- 13:29Speaker 5: Well we did back then was we had the goat
- 13:33Speaker 5: in studio and what we didn't realize was it was
- 13:37Speaker 5: hard to get a goat in the studio.
- 13:39Speaker 3: So the goat was just going rancid. It was, it
- 13:45Speaker 3: was going off, so it was stinky, it was it
- 13:49Speaker 3: was workable conditions. When we first brought the goat in,
- 13:54Speaker 3: Mom but.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Sweat, so me and Mike, I me my colleague, we
- 14:02Speaker 5: looked at each other and we said, I said, Junior,
- 14:05Speaker 5: let's just roll and we rolled. And then at some
- 14:08Speaker 5: point we got too rantom to see and we had
- 14:11Speaker 5: to get him out of there. And then a week
- 14:13Speaker 5: later we realized we didn't get sufficient stuff. We had
- 14:16Speaker 5: to bring him in to loop on top of what
- 14:18Speaker 5: he missed during the rancid time brought him back.
- 14:22Speaker 3: We brought him back.
- 14:23Speaker 5: In and we left him in the parking lot, brought
- 14:27Speaker 5: a mic out at the time, Mike's were this big?
- 14:32Speaker 3: How big is that? For the audio listeners?
- 14:35Speaker 5: For the audio listeners, I'm holding my hand like a
- 14:38Speaker 5: like I'd say, like a snow globe, a stollen snow
- 14:42Speaker 5: snow globe, a swollen snow book. I would say, snow
- 14:47Speaker 5: club after my wife's lasagna. What swollen and big?
- 14:52Speaker 2: A snow glove after the snow g eight your wife's lasagna.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It is not helpful to the listeners. As a voice
- 15:01Speaker 1: of the actor, I will say the most important part
- 15:04Speaker 1: of your job is communicating something to the listener. Wow, Betty,
- 15:09Speaker 1: and I don't think you're doing that.
- 15:12Speaker 5: You're right, And it's as an audio engineer, I'm a
- 15:15Speaker 5: visual guy.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Oh so you visualize the levels of the audio.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I gotta see the levels. I can't hear for
- 15:24Speaker 5: shit sometimes because I just got older.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Speaking of the levels, I wanted to bring up our
- 15:29Speaker 2: one of our favorite performers in that special there it
- 15:32Speaker 2: is play Santa Claus Uh, your scene partner, the incomparable
- 15:37Speaker 2: Burrel Eves Burrel.
- 15:42Speaker 3: So cool.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I mean, he is Mister Christmas to so many people.
- 15:45Speaker 2: It's amazing to have him involved in this project.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Really went out for Burl.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Oh, we missed Burl every day. Do you guys have
- 15:52Speaker 2: any stories. There's a lot of burrel heads out there.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Any stories.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I forgot to tell a couple of staries.
- 15:57Speaker 2: You know, remember him, keep him alive.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Burrel was my idol as a big Christmas head. I
- 16:04Speaker 1: of course became a big Burrel head because of the
- 16:07Speaker 1: amount of times he played Santa Claus. It touched my
- 16:11Speaker 1: heart and as a little girl, I would write letters
- 16:15Speaker 1: to Burrew instead of Santa Claus because in my mind
- 16:18Speaker 1: he was Santa and I didn't get what I wanted
- 16:21Speaker 1: because I was sending them to a real man. So
- 16:24Speaker 1: that broke me for a while. I was off Christmas
- 16:26Speaker 1: for the years.
- 16:27Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 16:27Speaker 2: So you would write, you would write, dear Burrel, I'd
- 16:29Speaker 2: like a Barbie doll.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yes, And then I found his real address and I
- 16:34Speaker 1: would send it to him. So my parents had no idea.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Santa Claus himself sure had no idea, And so I
- 16:41Speaker 1: didn't get what I wanted on Christmas morning, and it
- 16:43Speaker 1: broke my heart. And so I did confront him when
- 16:47Speaker 1: we watchess.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Was that when you were off, when I.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Was off, when I was off Christmas? Oh, I was
- 16:53Speaker 1: a kid, So that's got to be a nineteen fifty
- 16:58Speaker 1: and nineteen fifty four.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Actually just about the time you will in his a
- 17:03Speaker 3: pow com right.
- 17:06Speaker 2: No, No, you mean.
- 17:07Speaker 3: The time he was stealing.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Valor Why did you bring that up?
- 17:13Speaker 3: I just I just means a connection. I'm so sorry.
- 17:15Speaker 3: We just were timing.
- 17:17Speaker 1: The architecture is inconsistent. If you know anything about the
- 17:20Speaker 1: Korean War.
- 17:21Speaker 5: What's weird to me is it's about the architecture, Betty,
- 17:24Speaker 5: because I think it could be about records.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Well, she's referring to these grainy photos that one of
- 17:30Speaker 2: the enemies got of me. And the enemies, well she focuses,
- 17:33Speaker 2: I mean they were my friends.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Yeah, they were.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I was a prisoner, and she took photos. You know,
- 17:39Speaker 2: they took photos and they said this is is this
- 17:42Speaker 2: your soldier and they sent it back to the you know,
- 17:45Speaker 2: the the army, and they did come and get me eventually.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Can I say, yeah, if I was a soldier at
- 17:51Speaker 5: war and I looked down at my fellow soldier and
- 17:56Speaker 5: he was doodling about a Christmas crab.
- 18:00Speaker 3: I would have thought.
- 18:01Speaker 1: You were fucking nuts.
- 18:03Speaker 3: And look at what you've created.
- 18:05Speaker 2: All due respect, Paul, you wouldn't be alive long enough
- 18:07Speaker 2: in a war to see anyone draw anything.
- 18:10Speaker 5: I think I could. An audio engineer can survive war.
- 18:16Speaker 5: I've survived so many rancid vibes.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I haven't seen you survive missing lunch.
- 18:21Speaker 1: You know, I this is really bringing me back because
- 18:25Speaker 1: I forgot how much tension there was.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I'm trying to.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Come back and we're talking Christmas, and I didn't mean
- 18:31Speaker 2: to bring this up, but the Korean War thing was
- 18:33Speaker 2: brought up, Hines.
- 18:34Speaker 4: And.
- 18:36Speaker 1: It broke no pleasure to call out the elephant in
- 18:40Speaker 1: the room, which is you making up a fake story
- 18:43Speaker 1: about being a pow.
- 18:44Speaker 2: You don't have to you don't have to be no pleasure.
- 18:47Speaker 1: To do that, because what I want to do is
- 18:48Speaker 1: talk about Christmas. And what I want to do is
- 18:50Speaker 1: talk about Burl. We gotta keep his memory alive.
- 18:55Speaker 3: You have any memories, But.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah, working with Burrow is really fun. I remember smell.
- 19:00Speaker 2: He always smelled like banana bread, and I remember on
- 19:04Speaker 2: the last day we got him a big loaf of
- 19:06Speaker 2: banana bread and he was laughing. He said, smell like this.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I was really you know, we got really close. We
- 19:16Speaker 2: uh we spent a lot of time at the Smokehouse
- 19:19Speaker 2: over on uh Barrom Boulevard in Burbank. Wow, we had
- 19:26Speaker 2: a couple.
- 19:29Speaker 3: We love the Smokehouse.
- 19:30Speaker 5: I don't know what it is, but anybody who's worked
- 19:32Speaker 5: on Christmas Crab loves the Smokehouse.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah. We love sitting in there in that dingy old
- 19:38Speaker 2: little place and listening to the music and eating rolls,
- 19:41Speaker 2: garlic rolls.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Shout out to Bethany Saunders, owner of the Smokehouse.
- 19:46Speaker 3: She hung a Christmas Crab poster that we all signed.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah we did. I think it's still in there.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Actually, it was an honor to sign as the audio.
- 19:55Speaker 2: And went in there for a lunch alan last week
- 19:57Speaker 2: and I saw it in there.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Bell is a great it's guy.
- 20:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Me and my wife actually did some you know, sexy
- 20:03Speaker 3: stuff with him. Okay, wow, wow, all right, go to bed,
- 20:09Speaker 3: Go to bed.
- 20:10Speaker 7: The bed, kids, kids, This is a naughty twenty twenty one.
- 20:16Speaker 3: You did it this year, yeah, right before he passed,
- 20:20Speaker 3: right before he passed. Glad he got one in before
- 20:23Speaker 3: he went. Yeah, Well, me and my wife you know,
- 20:25Speaker 3: it's struggling. We'll go what do we do? You know
- 20:28Speaker 3: what am I gonna do?
- 20:29Speaker 1: What are we gonna do?
- 20:29Speaker 2: Here?
- 20:30Speaker 3: We'll fighting? What are we going to do? And Jim
- 20:33Speaker 3: Burke comes and he goes, you know how he talked
- 20:36Speaker 3: like who can do his talk? Who can do his talk?
- 20:38Speaker 3: He's the guy that thinks have a holy job. That's
- 20:41Speaker 3: what he sounds like. He's like when we slip together.
- 20:46Speaker 3: And I was like, Burlie, are you mad too mad?
- 20:50Speaker 3: But said my wife was like maybe, And then I thought,
- 20:53Speaker 3: you know, maybe it's twenty twenty one.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Let's try.
- 20:56Speaker 3: I don't want to die so.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Very recent, you know, listen, I hate I hate to
- 21:02Speaker 2: tell you Burl broke past years and years ago.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I hate him.
- 21:07Speaker 1: What I think you you were, You were having relations
- 21:11Speaker 1: with an impostor Burrel and it's happened before.
- 21:14Speaker 2: No, there's a fake Burl out there. I did want
- 21:18Speaker 2: to talk about this. I didn't want to.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Talk about impersonating Burrel. And you know what, I think
- 21:24Speaker 1: he was the one who was ignoring by Christmas letters, so.
- 21:27Speaker 3: He's been impersonating him since fifty fifties. I choose to
- 21:31Speaker 3: believe that because this man looked so much like burn.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that doesn't That doesn't stop him. Yeah, that's
- 21:38Speaker 5: the thing that doesn't stop we.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, Paul knows this. We had some security
- 21:42Speaker 2: questions we'd ask Burl when he got in, but only
- 21:45Speaker 2: he would know.
- 21:45Speaker 3: What did you ask?
- 21:46Speaker 5: You couldn't grab the mic unless he passed the security tip.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I can't say it because I know
- 21:51Speaker 2: fake Burl is listening.
- 21:52Speaker 3: But uh, you still say the questions was out the
- 21:57Speaker 3: answers right.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Well, he's going to look for him, I'll say. Is
- 22:00Speaker 2: We asked them specific pet names. We asked him specific
- 22:04Speaker 2: uh girlfriends he had. We asked him specific sizes of
- 22:09Speaker 2: certain measurements of things on his body like that.
- 22:12Speaker 5: If I could speak candily thinking his body, Burrow had
- 22:17Speaker 5: freckles at the tip of his dick.
- 22:19Speaker 3: And finally, I mean Christmas care.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Kids.
- 22:26Speaker 3: I don't care if the fake Burrel hears this.
- 22:28Speaker 5: No matter what, We'll always be able to love at
- 22:30Speaker 5: your dick, Fake Burrel. And if you don't have any
- 22:33Speaker 5: freaking freckles, don't touch the mic.
- 22:36Speaker 1: So what I'd like to talk about is how much
- 22:42Speaker 1: this special touched families.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I love I still get to the fount man.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Every once in a while, the time.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I'm getting stopped in the.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Mallah, they never know until because I did the voice.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But sometimes if i'm if I'm ordering something at the bank,
- 23:00Speaker 1: like a check.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Some sort, what are you ordering?
- 23:07Speaker 1: Ordering a check?
- 23:08Speaker 3: I get four checks?
- 23:09Speaker 1: Please? Can I get four checks? Please? And can I
- 23:12Speaker 1: get a deposit? And can I get a make it
- 23:16Speaker 1: a withdrawal? And that's when they know it's me.
- 23:20Speaker 2: You're looking at the bank menu in the back.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And it's in It's in burbank you will you've got
- 23:29Speaker 1: it banks. It's the bill Burr of banks, and the
- 23:35Speaker 1: bill Burr that's what they call it because the tailers
- 23:38Speaker 1: are always yelling, so.
- 23:40Speaker 3: You go to the bill Burgh banks and bank.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yes, I do.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Rip your pots. You know when you try to withdraw,
- 23:48Speaker 3: like I don't just have you should wow.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I can't really do the voice because I can only
- 23:55Speaker 1: do this one hello, one trick pony much, So I yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 1: I'll withdraw and say again, I get a withdrawal, and
- 24:03Speaker 1: they know me there. If they're if they're a little older,
- 24:05Speaker 1: or if they have kids, they'll be like, are you
- 24:08Speaker 1: you betty to bope, and I'll say, oh yeah, guiltiest charge.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And it never gets old to sign one of those autographs.
- 24:14Speaker 1: People give me their wreaths to sign all the time.
- 24:19Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 24:20Speaker 5: Can I say when you I couldn't imagine hearing your
- 24:24Speaker 5: voice when you order like a coffee or something, or
- 24:28Speaker 5: through a drive through you does that throw people off?
- 24:31Speaker 1: Yeah? I less so than at the bank, less so
- 24:34Speaker 1: than at the bank. But when I'm depositing money at
- 24:37Speaker 1: the drive through and I'm withdrawing the food, Uh, they
- 24:40Speaker 1: don't seem to catch on as much. I think it's
- 24:43Speaker 1: a younger crowd. You know, no good teenagers working for
- 24:46Speaker 1: a minimum wage, so they don't really know as much.
- 24:50Speaker 3: But does that ever happen to you?
- 24:51Speaker 1: Do you guys ever get recognized for working behind the
- 24:54Speaker 1: scenes on a Christmas Two?
- 24:56Speaker 3: People recognize me on the street. I'm very surprised you
- 24:59Speaker 3: said people recognize you for this. We've never gotten recognized.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Believe I've done the conventions I've done. I used to
- 25:05Speaker 2: go there's a lot of holiday conventions and then this,
- 25:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah they're great. They're always usually only hired.
- 25:12Speaker 1: San Diego.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I go to San Diego. There's one in uh
- 25:16Speaker 2: Christmas con Saint Paul. Yeah, Christmas con, Merry con, I
- 25:22Speaker 2: do Christmas con.
- 25:24Speaker 1: The Virgin Mary or as in marry me r r y. Okay,
- 25:27Speaker 1: so Merry Christmas.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Christmas can, merry con, Bell Con and uh Mary con
- 25:32Speaker 2: St Mary. I don't go if you've gone to that one, Paul.
- 25:35Speaker 5: I went with my ex wife, Okay, yeah, I uh.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I love going to the conventions and talking. They're only
- 25:43Speaker 2: usually looking to get one person from every production to
- 25:46Speaker 2: speak terry, So I usually offer.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Because I've worked on a lot of productions, I'm surprised
- 25:53Speaker 3: that none of them we would invite me, you know.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I can let them know.
- 25:58Speaker 3: That'd be great. Basically I'm not doing much you know work,
- 26:03Speaker 3: and I need work too because it was paid by
- 26:05Speaker 3: the minute of production. So you know, like right now
- 26:09Speaker 3: is the media is changed? The medium has changed? Yeah,
- 26:13Speaker 3: different way. Yeah.
- 26:14Speaker 1: What do you guys think is the biggest change happening
- 26:17Speaker 1: right now in Christmas? Movie?
- 26:18Speaker 3: Or do I have to say it out loud? How
- 26:20Speaker 3: about the computer?
- 26:22Speaker 1: The computer that's your enemy.
- 26:25Speaker 3: I hate the computer. Everybody's just always on the computer
- 26:30Speaker 3: because they can do the things or animated movie on
- 26:33Speaker 3: a computer. How about a man sitting in his garage
- 26:35Speaker 3: making it. What's happened to this?
- 26:38Speaker 1: And you know, some people would argue that it takes
- 26:42Speaker 1: about one fifteenth the amount of time that it takes
- 26:46Speaker 1: you to go through the garage.
- 26:47Speaker 3: And what would you say to those people would say?
- 26:50Speaker 3: I would say you're wrong, and you would say round.
- 26:53Speaker 3: I would say wrong, that we are all ind okay,
- 26:59Speaker 3: so wrong. And that's because they don't understand that the
- 27:02Speaker 3: passion lies not in the computer, not it's behind the
- 27:06Speaker 3: glass green, but in the man buildings. A crap, because
- 27:10Speaker 3: do you know what they do? They just draw and
- 27:15Speaker 3: then they put it and they draw and then it's done.
- 27:19Speaker 1: The kids are always on their phones.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 27:24Speaker 2: It's you know, good things cost money, and a lot
- 27:28Speaker 2: of people don't care about things being good anymore as well.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I've noticed, and it's a heartbreak, Paul, I'm sure you've
- 27:34Speaker 2: experienced that.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Yeah, audio engineering completely changed since the fifties, right, oh god, yeah,
- 27:39Speaker 3: especially with computers.
- 27:41Speaker 5: Yeah, with the fifties, I'd argue our department has changed, uh,
- 27:46Speaker 5: compared to a lot of department Well, how it changed,
- 27:48Speaker 5: arguing specifically, I'll argue it in court.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd love to know, because I don't know much
- 27:53Speaker 1: about the technical side of audio engineering.
- 27:56Speaker 3: I'd love for you to get really in the.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Weeds on the specifics of that.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll get in the weeds with them.
- 28:00Speaker 5: I'll get in the chords with that, as we say,
- 28:03Speaker 5: lots of chords and wires.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I just as the podcast listeners still smoking a cigarette. Yeah, sorry, folks.
- 28:14Speaker 5: I'm a child of the seventies, and when you work
- 28:18Speaker 5: in this business for so long, it's like you you
- 28:21Speaker 5: develop habits that you can't break. I can't work on
- 28:25Speaker 5: a Christmas movie and not smoke a damn cigarette.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Let's talk about the specifics of audio engineering. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:32Speaker 3: I let me get to that.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Oh. I am dying to know the specifics of audio engineering.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And I think the people at O are too. They're begging.
- 28:41Speaker 1: With a movie like.
- 28:42Speaker 5: This Christmas Crab, you're dealing with gentle sounds, gentle images
- 28:50Speaker 5: that are have around physique round round, like nothing is.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Sharp, so the sound is round.
- 28:57Speaker 5: So you're trying not to You're trying to balance that out.
- 29:01Speaker 5: You're trying to uh serve the material, not beat the material.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Oh I can specifically, how has that changed from nineteen
- 29:11Speaker 3: fifty two?
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yes, so that has changed and keep in mind this
- 29:16Speaker 1: is being recorded that has changed.
- 29:20Speaker 3: What do you mean as in.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Choose your words carefully because many people will listen to this. Yeah,
- 29:32Speaker 1: you with seed. I'm sorry I.
- 29:34Speaker 5: Feel I feel that sometimes people want to hear from
- 29:37Speaker 5: me as the audio engineer because.
- 29:41Speaker 3: I think I'll call it out right now, I'll just
- 29:42Speaker 3: say it. I think you guys think I don't know.
- 29:44Speaker 8: What I'm doing, and sometimes you ask me what I'm
- 29:50Speaker 8: doing in acquisitory manner like I don't know what I'm doing.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Fat, I'm sorry you feel that way. Yeah, I feel
- 29:59Speaker 3: like you know what you're doing and I'm just thanky
- 30:02Speaker 3: asking how the field that you know so well has changed. Now,
- 30:07Speaker 3: thank you for that. Do you guys believe I.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Have the utmost respect for you? Paul? I think you're
- 30:12Speaker 2: really talented, which is why we actually ask you that
- 30:15Speaker 2: specific question to get your expertise in the field that
- 30:19Speaker 2: we know you know a lot about.
- 30:21Speaker 5: See you said that with a weird twinkle behind your eyes.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Oh, I just have that, and I'm just a curious
- 30:28Speaker 1: crab who wants to know.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I watch out for this one.
- 30:32Speaker 3: To be honest, Yeah, I believe. I think I think Betty,
- 30:36Speaker 3: you look for liars. That's why you love working with him?
- 30:39Speaker 1: Oh, I love and I you George. You're the light
- 30:44Speaker 1: of my life and I think only fond things of you,
- 30:48Speaker 1: outside of, of course, the confines of US military activity.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That is a no no subject, but our dinner table,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and I love our yearly dinners.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Don't you have a purple heart, George?
- 31:01Speaker 2: I have a purple heart. Yeah, I have a purple
- 31:04Speaker 2: heart for the.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Purple Hardy made of Joanne's craft.
- 31:07Speaker 3: I don't I feel like you said crabs.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Whole crab on the brain. Gosh, I've been trying to
- 31:15Speaker 1: find a rule like this.
- 31:16Speaker 3: For Yeah, you have not worked, right, you have worked.
- 31:19Speaker 3: You just did that one movie Christmas Crab. And somehow
- 31:22Speaker 3: you have money to go to Bubank.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Well, no money to go to Burbank, Yes.
- 31:27Speaker 3: To drive all the way out there. I let you
- 31:29Speaker 3: enter the bank that expensive?
- 31:32Speaker 1: There are no tolls.
- 31:35Speaker 2: She did that. In nineteen seventy six, you were in
- 31:37Speaker 2: Battle of the Network Stars. Remember you did Tugger Upe
- 31:40Speaker 2: against mister.
- 31:41Speaker 1: T I was, yes.
- 31:43Speaker 3: And what's that game show where they're all upon a wall?
- 31:45Speaker 2: Oh match game? And they yeah, Hollywood, Hollywood, you did
- 31:51Speaker 2: do Hollywood spree.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I'm out as a series regular almost you know what I.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Am selling myself short. I was a contestant on over
- 31:59Speaker 1: one hundred game shows, and.
- 32:03Speaker 3: I think I keep.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Getting cast because I look like a just a jolly
- 32:08Speaker 1: old grandma, which I truthfully am. But I also scream
- 32:13Speaker 1: like a motherfucker when I win, and.
- 32:16Speaker 3: So put bed.
- 32:20Speaker 1: It's my turn to say, go to bed, go to bed.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Freckles on your balls, barrel, burrel, freckles on the dick burn, yes, exactly.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I not to brag, but I just shot an episode
- 32:39Speaker 1: of Family Game Night and I won one hundred thousand dollars.
- 32:49Speaker 3: That is enough, Betty to get you to burn.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm really, really, really good at game shows.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Did they bring you on as the voice of Christmas
- 32:58Speaker 3: Crab Forgotten?
- 33:00Speaker 1: I did that. Everyone is forgotten? I did that. I
- 33:04Speaker 1: didn't start getting cast until about the eighties on all
- 33:09Speaker 1: these shows because the public memory sort of faded of
- 33:12Speaker 1: you know, who is this Christmas Crab? I know they
- 33:15Speaker 1: air it every year, but it's it's difficult. It doesn't
- 33:18Speaker 1: stick with the new generation, which is great for me
- 33:21Speaker 1: game show wise, because I'm able to put food on
- 33:23Speaker 1: the table. As you guys know, I have sixteen kids,
- 33:26Speaker 1: and so it's tough to to to maintain that stream
- 33:30Speaker 1: of income. But I am working my patuity off, going
- 33:34Speaker 1: through the game show circuit, working on right now.
- 33:38Speaker 3: What are you guys doing? You're looking for work. I'm
- 33:41Speaker 3: working on looking for work.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Oh, you're working on what's that about you?
- 33:48Speaker 6: Is it?
- 33:49Speaker 3: No? I don't know what that is. I don't know
- 33:51Speaker 3: how to get so you've got to get on one.
- 33:53Speaker 3: So I have to get on the computer to do that.
- 33:56Speaker 3: I hate ever since on the computer.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Now.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I wanted to not do that. I want to send
- 34:01Speaker 3: a letter or show up and be hello, I am
- 34:05Speaker 3: here to work hard for you. I'm here to work now,
- 34:08Speaker 3: and I'm there to work hard. So if you know
- 34:11Speaker 3: somebody that's looking for an old man who does vintage
- 34:15Speaker 3: style claymation.
- 34:19Speaker 2: I've been working on my final film, it is You're
- 34:25Speaker 2: done after this. It's autobiographical. It's a stop motion film
- 34:29Speaker 2: about my whole life. I've been working on.
- 34:32Speaker 3: It for the stop motion personal that I'm doing it okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And personal ever done? Have you ever done it before?
- 34:40Speaker 2: Yes? I said in the beginning of this, I was
- 34:43Speaker 2: part of the lead.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Seem like Hines was really taking the reins.
- 34:48Speaker 2: We did it together.
- 34:50Speaker 3: He just disappeared for a while, but then he came
- 34:52Speaker 3: back together in the audience.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I'm doing it myself on voice notes coming up, but
- 35:00Speaker 2: it's gonna come together.
- 35:01Speaker 1: And who's voicing the crab in your life story?
- 35:04Speaker 3: There's no crabs? Who is a characters?
- 35:06Speaker 2: What about Well, it's about me and it's about my extensive,
- 35:11Speaker 2: extensive snack collection. I collect vintage snacks and I have
- 35:17Speaker 2: stored them.
- 35:17Speaker 3: This Alimation movie about.
- 35:19Speaker 2: You, it's about an old man collecting snacks over his
- 35:23Speaker 2: whole life. And he looks at a snack and he
- 35:24Speaker 2: sees the memory he caught that snack. You know, I like,
- 35:27Speaker 2: I like to call him catching snacks.
- 35:29Speaker 1: That's actually beautiful feature length film.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Well, we're working on it. I've been working on it
- 35:34Speaker 2: about forty five years and it's about fifteen minutes in
- 35:37Speaker 2: so hopefully, hopefully we're gonna finish it.
- 35:41Speaker 3: This sounds a lot like that movie Land of Awin.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Oh, what is that movie?
- 35:46Speaker 3: Steve Correll movie? What what's that?
- 35:48Speaker 2: Oh? Welcome to, Welcome.
- 35:50Speaker 3: To, Welcome to, Welcome to Marrow, Welcome to marrowin, Yes,
- 35:56Speaker 3: welcome tomorrow.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Oh, it's completely different. It's completely differ.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Five years in and I hope it's different.
- 36:03Speaker 2: No, it's really different forty five years. But it's good.
- 36:07Speaker 2: I can't complain. I have a good life.
- 36:09Speaker 3: So what are you working on? And also how has
- 36:12Speaker 3: the industry changed from.
- 36:14Speaker 2: The go ahead and answer that question.
- 36:16Speaker 3: You're working on something now.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Don't ask me that like you're looking for me to
- 36:19Speaker 5: fucking flounder.
- 36:21Speaker 3: On the ground.
- 36:22Speaker 7: No.
- 36:22Speaker 3: I just asked, like, do you have new apps that
- 36:25Speaker 3: you have to download on the complete It's different now
- 36:28Speaker 3: what I'm working on. I am working on.
- 36:31Speaker 5: I'm starting to do sound mixing at dinner theaters.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Live sound mixing at dinner different. So you're mixing all
- 36:41Speaker 1: less knobs. Fascinating.
- 36:44Speaker 5: Yeah, to be honest, I haven't adapted to the times
- 36:50Speaker 5: as best as I could. Hence why I am so
- 36:53Speaker 5: pissed and I talk like I'm pissed. I just can't
- 36:59Speaker 5: get with all of the files. I lose files, I
- 37:03Speaker 5: misplaced files.
- 37:06Speaker 3: So live stuff's good for me because nobody wants that again.
- 37:09Speaker 1: We do it once and we're out, then you're done.
- 37:11Speaker 3: How do you.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Mix out the sound of the plates and the forks?
- 37:16Speaker 5: So we don't we're making the stage but live so
- 37:21Speaker 5: you I can.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Just imagine that's pretty loud to hear.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 37:25Speaker 5: I tell my hostesses every time, put those tables back back,
- 37:30Speaker 5: the tables up.
- 37:31Speaker 3: As they say, we got to see the stage, Paul.
- 37:33Speaker 3: So you're the mixer and you are the you manage
- 37:37Speaker 3: the hosts.
- 37:37Speaker 5: I don't like to tell people this, but yes, the restaurant.
- 37:43Speaker 5: My brother and I opened this dinner theater. Yes, it's
- 37:46Speaker 5: his project.
- 37:47Speaker 1: What kind of shows do you put on? Because I'd
- 37:49Speaker 1: love to it's just Mama Mia. Oh it's only Mama.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Well that's a great show.
- 37:53Speaker 5: Especially I would say, yeah, yeah, but I keep trying
- 37:57Speaker 5: to push those tables back.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Go ahead, go ahead.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Well, I shot up a question because you know, obviously
- 38:05Speaker 1: with Christmas Heads, our film is about Christmas. I would
- 38:09Speaker 1: love to know if you guys have any Christmas traditions.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's the question I was going to ask.
- 38:15Speaker 1: So funny, and I.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Would like to add to that question. Is the Christmas
- 38:20Speaker 2: Crab part of your tradition?
- 38:21Speaker 5: You love to know that you still want I actually
- 38:24Speaker 5: have a funny tradition with the Christmas Crab. I go
- 38:28Speaker 5: home alone and I sent my house. I get a
- 38:30Speaker 5: pack of Marlboroughs and I challenged myself to smoke a
- 38:35Speaker 5: whole pack of cigarettes before.
- 38:36Speaker 3: The movie ends. It's fifteen minutes and I get sick
- 38:42Speaker 3: as a dog. No.
- 38:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like a nice thing though, because you like it.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I like it. I love watching the Christmas Crap
- 38:53Speaker 3: every year. Is my wife. If we watch, we have fun,
- 38:57Speaker 3: we drink and we just celebrate what it.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Was back then.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, so so lovely is that's what me
- 39:04Speaker 3: and my wife do. You know amazing? What about you, Benny?
- 39:07Speaker 1: I well, I love the Christmas Crab and I have
- 39:11Speaker 1: a big family, of course, And something I think is
- 39:14Speaker 1: important about the Christmas Crab is your individual experience watching
- 39:18Speaker 1: the Christmas because you don't want to be influenced by
- 39:21Speaker 1: others going ooh ah or laughing at different points.
- 39:25Speaker 3: I want everyone to have their own experience.
- 39:27Speaker 1: So every year, on Christmas Day, I send each of
- 39:31Speaker 1: my sixteen children into a room alone to watch a
- 39:35Speaker 1: private screening of The Christmas Crab. And they do it
- 39:37Speaker 1: in succession, and they wear noise cancel and caadphones so
- 39:40Speaker 1: they can't hear anything else. And then I take them
- 39:44Speaker 1: out and I interview them. I say, how is it
- 39:45Speaker 1: that time, and every year I do this, and I
- 39:49Speaker 1: think it's important because you learn something new every time
- 39:52Speaker 1: you view it.
- 39:54Speaker 5: Yeah, what a traumatic experience for the kids.
- 39:57Speaker 3: Oh No, they love it. They do every year. All
- 40:02Speaker 3: sixteen of.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Them love it. Except for the one. I won't mention.
- 40:09Speaker 1: He went off to join the military.
- 40:13Speaker 3: So he says, George, it's more of just you don't
- 40:18Speaker 3: believe the military, Betty.
- 40:21Speaker 2: It's been proven the military is a thing that happens.
- 40:24Speaker 1: And the hoax going on that there is a vast
- 40:31Speaker 1: number of troops ready at arms at all times to
- 40:35Speaker 1: defend the United States government's interest and I don't buy
- 40:40Speaker 1: it one bit. I think it's baloney, and I think
- 40:44Speaker 1: it's who ha.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Nobody has this conspiracy theory. It's just you, Betty. I
- 40:49Speaker 3: hate ready.
- 40:51Speaker 2: The military is proven. It's been proven that it's real, Betty.
- 40:55Speaker 3: What about you, George?
- 40:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean and my wife we watch Christmas
- 40:59Speaker 2: Care every year. Since my wife and I couldn't have kids.
- 41:02Speaker 2: We like to say that it's our kid because we
- 41:04Speaker 2: met when I was on a Merry Con tour in Tucson.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Is she a Christmas Head?
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah, we met about six months ago, and uh, she's
- 41:15Speaker 2: your wife, she's my wife.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Thank god, you still go back to it's our kid.
- 41:20Speaker 2: When you are my age, you fall in love fast.
- 41:22Speaker 2: There's no more games.
- 41:24Speaker 3: The same age.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Well, and but you're married right yeah? Oh the ball
- 41:29Speaker 3: in is a change.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Never happened for me. I was all Clay was focusing
- 41:33Speaker 2: on the Clay and the ideas.
- 41:34Speaker 3: You guys, you ever feel like there's no reward.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Every day of my life is really justying.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'm having a wonderful live. Bye, go to the bank
- 41:46Speaker 1: and people know who I am.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Just before you finish up, could we just play that
- 41:51Speaker 3: final scene in the Christmas Crab movie just to just
- 41:54Speaker 3: to bring it home, is it real? Christmas Crab talks
- 41:57Speaker 3: about stops being so crabby and start celebrating at Christmas, And.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Then there's the surprise cameos at the very end from
- 42:05Speaker 2: our favorite ranking and fast characters that come by.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so let's do it. Let's play it. Let's play it.
- 42:11Speaker 5: Let's play it at half audio because I want the
- 42:15Speaker 5: volume blown out.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Okay, these young kids that blow out the ball in
- 42:19Speaker 3: the mix will bump it up. You want me to
- 42:23Speaker 3: bump it down. Bump it the fuck down. These were
- 42:27Speaker 3: the terms we were looking for earlier. Bump it the fu.
- 42:30Speaker 3: This is all we need earlier, just a couple of terms.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Anyway, I'm so excited to see what this clip looks
- 42:37Speaker 1: like this time. Oh, Santa Claus, I'm a cantanker as
- 42:44Speaker 1: Coraby crab, and I still, even after you've taken me
- 42:49Speaker 1: to every house to deliver every last present, I still
- 42:53Speaker 1: don't think I know what Christmas is all about.
- 42:56Speaker 9: But don't you see little crap. Christmas isn't a out
- 43:01Speaker 9: work or gifts or presents. Christmas is about being with
- 43:07Speaker 9: the ones you love.
- 43:09Speaker 1: And do you love me, Santa Claus?
- 43:12Speaker 2: Well in the way I love my elves? I do
- 43:15Speaker 2: love you.
