  light in the darker days. During this special season of

  Advent, we will journey through the Advent themes of hope,

  peace, joy, and love. This third week, we will join

  Deborah Myrtle Anish. She is a Sunday school teacher
• 0:35
  and NDI president at the Call Free Church of the Nazarene in
• 0:38
  Chennai, India. In her daily life, she is an
• 0:41
  assistant professor and clinic opsiologist in a government
• 0:44
  hospital and is also pursuing geological studies.

  She will share with us about the team Advent Joy.

  Joy in God's presence. The Bible portion for today is
• 0:58
  taken from Luke chapter 1 verses 46 to 48.

  And Mary said, my soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices
• 1:08
  in God my Saviour. For he has been mindful of the
• 1:12
  humble state of his servant. From now on, all generations
• 1:17
  will call be blessed. This Advent season we stand
• 1:22
  between promise and fulfilment, waiting, longing, preparing our
• 1:27
  hearts for the arrival of Christ.

  We join Mary in her anticipation of God's promise.
• 1:34
  Before Mary sings her song, she is a young girl facing an
• 1:39
  overwhelming moment, engaged to Joseph, preparing for marriage,
• 1:44
  when the Angel Gabriel delivers a life changing message.

  Imagine her state, a teenager who is unwed, unexpectedly
• 1:54
  pregnant, the uncertainty, the social pressure and the
• 1:59
  lingering questions that would have surrounded her.

  Luke tells us she is troubled by the angel's words, a natural
• 2:08
  human reaction. Yet in her fear and confusion,
• 2:13
  something sacred happens. She responds with a brave and
• 2:17
  humble surrender. Let it be to me according to
• 2:21
  your word. And later, when Mary visits her
• 2:25
  cousin Elizabeth, who blesses her and confirms God's calling,
• 2:29
  Mary's troubled heart opens into worship.
• 2:33
  Her uncertainty becomes joy, and she declares, My soul magnifies
• 2:39
  the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.

  This is not the joy of someone whose life is perfectly
• 2:47
  arranged. This is the joy of someone who
• 2:50
  has encountered God's presence in the nearness of God.

  My Saviour, Edwin. Joy begins as we make room for
• 3:00
  God. When Mary magnifies the Lord,
• 3:04
  she allows God's presence to become the true focus of her
• 3:08
  inner world. She lets His presence rise above
• 3:11
  her fears, His promise above her uncertainty.
• 3:17
  Advent invites us into the same posture, letting His greatness
• 3:22
  become our focus and His presence become our joy.
• 3:27
  Joy often begins in a similar way for us as it did for Mary.
• 3:31
  It starts quietly, in the inward spaces where we offer God our
• 3:36
  trembling. Yes, not because we understand
• 3:40
  everything, but because we trust His nearness.
• 3:44
  Even in the waiting of Advent, there are places in each of our
• 3:49
  lives where God invites us to make room for Him, places where
• 3:54
  fear is loved well. Questions linger.
• 3:59
  Mary's example reminds us that joy often begins in those
• 4:02
  surrendered, hidden moments. Today, may God's presence shape
• 4:08
  our focus and fill us with His joy.
• 4:13
  Let us pray, Father, as we journey through this Advent
• 4:18
  season. Teach us to make room for Your
• 4:20
  presence, just as Mary did. Let our hearts open with trust,
• 4:25
  even in the places where we wait and wonder.

  Help us to see Your compassion, Your faithfulness, and Your
• 4:33
  steady hand at work in our lives.
• 4:36
  Fill us with the joy that rises from knowing that we are held by
• 4:40
  You. Let Your song become our song,
• 4:44
  and your nearness our strength. May our souls magnify you, and
• 4:50
  may our spirits rejoice in you, our Saviour.
