- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schreeger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. Welcome everybody to another episode
- 0:24Speaker 1: of the Season with Peter Schreger. We are now entering, Aaron,
- 0:28Speaker 1: what is this week eleven?
- 0:29Speaker 2: We're entering We just finished ten and we're going into
- 0:31Speaker 2: week eleven.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Oh my god, the season is flying by. On Sunday
- 0:36Speaker 1: there were five games decided in the final seconds by
- 0:39Speaker 1: a field goal attempt, and on Monday night there was
- 0:41Speaker 1: another one. I am Peter Schrager. I am your host
- 0:44Speaker 1: of this podcast. I picked Sean Payton to be the
- 0:47Speaker 1: NFL's Coach of the Year before the season, I picked
- 0:50Speaker 1: the Broncos to make the playoffs. The Broncos were one
- 0:52Speaker 1: and five at one point, having lost to the Jets
- 0:55Speaker 1: at home, and then very quietly they beat the Packers,
- 0:59Speaker 1: they beat the Chiefs. The trade deadline arrives, they don't
- 1:03Speaker 1: trade off Patrick's tan, they don't trade off Portland Sutton,
- 1:07Speaker 1: they don't trade off Jerry Judy, they don't trade anyone.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And they just quietly sit there and say, you know what,
- 1:15Speaker 1: we're gonna play. And then they beat the Buffalo Bills,
- 1:19Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos are four and five, folks, So that's
- 1:22Speaker 1: the Broncos. But as we're recording this, we just got
- 1:26Speaker 1: news that a former guest of the season with Peter Schuger,
- 1:31Speaker 1: when things were looking a little better and the sky
- 1:34Speaker 1: was the limit, Ken Dorsey, has been fired by the
- 1:39Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills. And Aaron Wan Kaufman, as my dear friend,
- 1:44Speaker 1: my partner in crime on this podcast, as my producer,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and as a diehard Buffalo Bills fan, I'm going to
- 1:52Speaker 1: give you the floor. Ken Dorsey season on the brink,
- 1:57Speaker 1: fired after a week ten loss on Monday Night? Does
- 2:00Speaker 1: that change things? What is the status of the Bills
- 2:04Speaker 1: fan As we are just getting this information, I.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Think Bill's fans are confused and have been confused because
- 2:12Speaker 2: they've been calling for Dorsey's head for weeks. I mean,
- 2:17Speaker 2: I think there have been a lot of games where
- 2:19Speaker 2: it seems like the offense should be doing a lot better,
- 2:23Speaker 2: and for all the injuries the defense has suffered, like
- 2:26Speaker 2: the offense should still be doing well. And I mean
- 2:30Speaker 2: last night I actually thought with Tavius Murray was running well.
- 2:33Speaker 2: James Cook got benched, but he came back in with
- 2:36Speaker 2: a vengeance, and like Cook, and Kincaid were doing a ton,
- 2:40Speaker 2: don't I don't know. I don't know if this fixes anything.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I don't know what this does to the offense. I
- 2:45Speaker 2: don't know what they do. I don't know how they
- 2:47Speaker 2: recapture the magic of the day ball offense two years ago. Like,
- 2:50Speaker 2: I don't know. This is rough. It's a rough last
- 2:54Speaker 2: night and then a rough day to day. And to
- 2:56Speaker 2: think that they're gonna have to install something new in
- 2:59Speaker 2: a week and play the Jets a really tough defense
- 3:02Speaker 2: that they already lost to is horrible.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, item and it seems fresh, and yet you can't
- 3:08Speaker 1: be shocked considering the offense. It takes such a step back.
- 3:12Speaker 1: They haven't been the same offense since twenty twenty one,
- 3:15Speaker 1: if we're being honest. You know, Brian Dabole and Josh
- 3:19Speaker 1: Allen had that miracle season. Allen was unbelievable finished I
- 3:22Speaker 1: believe second in the MVP last year. Took a step back, obviously,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and I think a lot of us said, well, they
- 3:27Speaker 1: were rolling, and then the DeMar Hamlin thing happened, and
- 3:29Speaker 1: the travel issues happened and it was just too much
- 3:31Speaker 1: to overcome. Well, it never has gotten going this year,
- 3:34Speaker 1: so Dorsey. It's his job. He loses his job, and
- 3:38Speaker 1: that's a shame. I like Ken, He'll be okay, he'll
- 3:41Speaker 1: figure something out. But as of last year, I mean
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm talking in January, he was interviewing for head coaching jobs.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So that's the NFL, and that's what we do in
- 3:49Speaker 1: the season. We try to track you through the lives
- 3:51Speaker 1: of these coaches and just how turbulent it really is.
- 3:55Speaker 1: In January he was interviewing to be the head coach
- 3:58Speaker 1: of the Carolina Panthers, and we are now in November
- 4:01Speaker 1: and he has fired and out of work. That is
- 4:04Speaker 1: a wild ride, and yet it is not uncommon in
- 4:07Speaker 1: the world. That is the NFL. As we go to
- 4:10Speaker 1: the Bills, I will say Von Miller was one hundred
- 4:14Speaker 1: and twenty million dollars signing. Didn't see much of him
- 4:16Speaker 1: last night. Gabe Davis, I've been hearing about as a
- 4:18Speaker 1: number one wide receiver. Didn't see much of him last night.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Stefan Diggs was not tearing it up last night. And
- 4:23Speaker 1: you could blame the coaching and the coach did just
- 4:25Speaker 1: lose his job and he's got to go back to
- 4:26Speaker 1: his wife and kids and say, hey, we're out of work.
- 4:28Speaker 1: We got to figure something out. I think everyone now
- 4:31Speaker 1: this is a call to arms, and it's say, hey,
- 4:34Speaker 1: we're five and five. If the playoffs were today, we
- 4:36Speaker 1: are out of this thing. We're not a part of it.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And Aaron, I'm not sure if he looked at the schedule.
- 4:41Speaker 1: They play the Jets, yes, but then the schedule gets
- 4:45Speaker 1: really crazy. They play the Eagles, Okay, then they have
- 4:50Speaker 1: a bye and they play the Chiefs and then they
- 4:53Speaker 1: play the Cowboys.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Your thoughts, it's so it looks so bleak.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Okay, as frustrated as you are, and as like I
- 5:02Speaker 1: live with a Ravens fan. She happens to be my wife.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Parents have been season ticket holders of the Baltimore Ravens
- 5:09Speaker 1: since they moved back to Baltimore. My father in law
- 5:13Speaker 1: has never missed a Baltimore Super Bowl, going back to
- 5:15Speaker 1: nineteen sixty nine when he went to the Orange Bowl
- 5:18Speaker 1: to see the Colts play the Jets. In person, I
- 5:21Speaker 1: think Ravens fans at seven to three might be even
- 5:23Speaker 1: more frustrated than Bills fans at five and five. The
- 5:27Speaker 1: Ravens have the craziest season right now, where they absolutely
- 5:31Speaker 1: trash opponents, they blow them out and they have three losses,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and all three of those losses have been inexplicable fourth
- 5:37Speaker 1: quarter collapses against the Steelers, the Colts, and then this
- 5:41Speaker 1: most recent one against the Browns at home, where there
- 5:43Speaker 1: are fourteen points in the fourth quarter and they somehow
- 5:46Speaker 1: give the game away even with the Browns missed extra point.
- 5:49Speaker 1: The stat that we gave on Good Morning Football yesterday
- 5:52Speaker 1: that my producer Rich Goldberg came to me in the
- 5:55Speaker 1: morning was like, you gotta go with this. Of the
- 5:58Speaker 1: top five teams to have the most time spent with
- 6:03Speaker 1: a lead through ten games in a season, five four
- 6:06Speaker 1: of those teams were ten and oh and went to
- 6:08Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. The fifth is the seven and three
- 6:12Speaker 1: Baltimore Ravens, meaning they have led by they have led
- 6:16Speaker 1: every game, and they have led the most amount of
- 6:20Speaker 1: time in not only this NFL season, but one of
- 6:22Speaker 1: the top five seasons of all time. And yet they're
- 6:25Speaker 1: not ten and oh, they're not nine to one, they're
- 6:26Speaker 1: not eighting two, they're seven and three. They lose in
- 6:29Speaker 1: the end. So which we had the conversation and today
- 6:32Speaker 1: on Good Morning Football is like, well, the good in
- 6:35Speaker 1: that is that like you're in it till the very end,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and that like you could tighten that up. The bad
- 6:38Speaker 1: in that is that, well, why can't you close? Why
- 6:41Speaker 1: can't you close? And this goes back not only Lamar
- 6:44Speaker 1: but Harball questions. And you know, I had my friend
- 6:47Speaker 1: Jeremy on in the offseason who was a blistering take
- 6:51Speaker 1: on the Ravens and how this whole decade since they
- 6:55Speaker 1: went to the Super Bowl and beat the forty nine
- 6:58Speaker 1: ers in twenty thirteen, this whole decade has just been
- 7:00Speaker 1: one missed opportunity after another. And he points to the
- 7:02Speaker 1: coach a lot of times in the GM, Well, they're
- 7:04Speaker 1: seven and three, and they're in first place in a
- 7:06Speaker 1: lot of ways in the AFC. Now, of course the
- 7:08Speaker 1: Chiefs and then we'll figure it out as far as
- 7:10Speaker 1: tiebreakers go when it's all said and done. But like
- 7:13Speaker 1: the Ravens to not be eight and one or nine
- 7:16Speaker 1: and one right now, that's a great disappointment. So it's
- 7:18Speaker 1: almost like you have these two teams that everyone was
- 7:21Speaker 1: high on. Then you have the Bengals, who last week
- 7:23Speaker 1: were all crowning Louenn and Rumo comes on the podcast.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'm talking about how this guy's going to be the
- 7:27Speaker 1: next head coach of the NFL. Well, they're five and
- 7:30Speaker 1: four out of the playoff all right now, which leads
- 7:32Speaker 1: to an AFC team. I'd like to talk about Aaron
- 7:36Speaker 1: the Houston freaking Texans five and four. If the playoffs
- 7:40Speaker 1: were to start today, the Houston Texans would be in
- 7:44Speaker 1: the dance. CJ. Stroud has been amazing. He's got every
- 7:48Speaker 1: record you can imagine as far as rookie quarterbacks go
- 7:51Speaker 1: throughout their first ten weeks of an NFL season. He's
- 7:54Speaker 1: steady Eddy. He does not waiver. And for the second
- 7:57Speaker 1: straight week, we had his GM on last week Nick Cassario,
- 8:00Speaker 1: go find the podcast episode. It was exquisite. It was wonderful.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Nick was great. He was even better this week. He
- 8:07Speaker 1: was even better than last week. He threw four to
- 8:08Speaker 1: seventy and five touchdowns. This one he threw a bad
- 8:11Speaker 1: pick and then bounced back, which I love. Throws the
- 8:15Speaker 1: bad pick. Bengals Cameron Taylor Britt takes it all the
- 8:18Speaker 1: way back, They hold them, they get a field goal.
- 8:20Speaker 1: It makes it a tie game. And he's got to
- 8:22Speaker 1: go eighty yards and somehow some way win this thing.
- 8:27Speaker 1: And guess what, he goes drives him the whole length
- 8:29Speaker 1: of the field, they kick the field goal to win it,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and they walk off champions of the game after beating
- 8:35Speaker 1: a very good, red hot Cincinnati Bengals team in the jungle,
- 8:39Speaker 1: which is a really hard place to play. I was
- 8:41Speaker 1: supposed to question, do I think their contenders? I say yes,
- 8:45Speaker 1: because they're in the dance right now. But also it's
- 8:48Speaker 1: not just rookie quarterback, first year coach, rookie wide receiver
- 8:52Speaker 1: and electricity with all this new young energy. The guys
- 8:54Speaker 1: on that team, Shaq Griffin has played in a lot
- 8:57Speaker 1: of big games. Shaq Mason's played in a lot of
- 8:59Speaker 1: big games. Robert Woods has played in a lot of
- 9:01Speaker 1: big games. Sheldon Rankins has played in a lot of
- 9:03Speaker 1: big games. Jerry Hughes on that team, Jerry Hughes on
- 9:05Speaker 1: the Colts with like Peyton mana like Jerry Hughes has
- 9:07Speaker 1: been in big games. They have veterans all over the lineup.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And if you're thinking about an org chart, and you're
- 9:13Speaker 1: not necessarily thinking about a football team, but you're thinking
- 9:16Speaker 1: about a company, and they're different departments. You've got hr,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you've got accounting, like they have young superstars that are
- 9:23Speaker 1: the equivalent of the Ivy League guys that are coming
- 9:24Speaker 1: right out of college with their great NBAS, but they
- 9:27Speaker 1: also have guys who've worked with the company and worked
- 9:30Speaker 1: at other very successful companies for five years, six years,
- 9:34Speaker 1: seven years. I love the fact that Tank Dell and
- 9:36Speaker 1: Nico Collins have Robert Woods in that room. I love
- 9:38Speaker 1: the fact that CJ. Stroud comes out after practice and
- 9:40Speaker 1: he talks to case Keenum, who played an NFC championship game.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Love what Houston's doing, and I don't think it's a fluke.
- 9:48Speaker 1: They're out playing teams and their defenses gone from a
- 9:51Speaker 1: historically bad defense from last year to being one of
- 9:53Speaker 1: the best in the league this year.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Question for you about the Texans, Yeah, do you think
- 9:58Speaker 2: this is kind of a hot take? Do you think
- 10:00Speaker 2: they could win out their schedule?
- 10:04Speaker 1: Storry Bill Simmons, We're not We're not a been Bill
- 10:07Speaker 1: Simmons right here. This is very cousin salon. Bill Simmons.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Do you want to talk about the All NBA third
- 10:11Speaker 1: point card next?
- 10:12Speaker 3: We can.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's only five weeks. It's only five weeks into the
- 10:15Speaker 1: NBA season.
- 10:15Speaker 3: We can.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Stroud exists on your Nbay. Yeah, but they have Cardinals
- 10:21Speaker 2: this week, they have Jags, the week after.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's a huge one.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Huh.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 1: They already beat the Jags once, right.
- 10:27Speaker 2: And then the Broncos and then at Jets, at Titans
- 10:31Speaker 2: against the Browns that's the Christmas Eve, that's the big one,
- 10:34Speaker 2: and then Titans and then it Colts.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Yeah, of course they can do it.
- 10:38Speaker 2: That's I was not expecting from talking about, like the
- 10:42Speaker 2: Bills schedule that looks so bleak and dour. The Texans
- 10:46Speaker 2: have a nice end of season run. What's coming up?
- 10:49Speaker 2: I think?
- 10:49Speaker 1: Do you know why I love doing this podcast with you?
- 10:52Speaker 3: Bro?
- 10:52Speaker 1: You just dropped the word dour, bleaking dour? Is that
- 10:58Speaker 1: a word? Do you mean? Dire? Is dour a word?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Let's google that. I love that.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Let's get down relentlessly severe, stern or in manner or appearance?
- 11:08Speaker 1: The hell yes, Bro, that's the perfect word. All right.
- 11:12Speaker 1: The Bills have a dour schedule. The Texans. What's an
- 11:15Speaker 1: antonym to Dower? Type in antonym dower? What do we get?
- 11:21Speaker 2: I want to find the most exciting one.
- 11:23Speaker 1: We don't want to We don't want a thesaurus. We
- 11:25Speaker 1: don't need that.
- 11:25Speaker 2: We want an antonym the Houston gentle pleasant.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I like gentle Houston Texans have a gentle schedule coming up.
- 11:33Speaker 1: That's fantastic. H I love the NFL. It's wide open.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I don't think anyone had the Texans or the Broncos
- 11:39Speaker 1: like a couple of weeks ago, and here we are
- 11:41Speaker 1: and another team that I don't think anyone was like
- 11:44Speaker 1: legitimately considering as like a team, the Indianapolis culture very quietly.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Five and five they beat a terrible Patriots team in Germany,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and they're right there. I had a rare Sunday off.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Aaron Fox sent uh the Fox NFL Sunday Show, the
- 12:05Speaker 1: Big Dogs, Kurt Gronk and Strahan and Howie Long and
- 12:10Speaker 1: Jimmy Johnson and Glazer. They sent them to the Air
- 12:14Speaker 1: Force Academy. As an annual tradition, they go to a
- 12:16Speaker 1: different veteran spot, whether it be West Point or the
- 12:20Speaker 1: Naval Academy or a military base overseas. This year they
- 12:25Speaker 1: went to the Air Force Academy. Grounk jumped out of
- 12:27Speaker 1: a plane and was live for the jumping in. It
- 12:29Speaker 1: was actually great television. It was fantastic. But I got
- 12:32Speaker 1: a chance to sit on my ass and watch TV
- 12:34Speaker 1: like most Americans do. And I gotta tell you guys
- 12:37Speaker 1: got it pretty good. That one o'clock window was unbelievable,
- 12:41Speaker 1: all these games coming down to the wire at the end,
- 12:44Speaker 1: Brown's Ravens Bengals. And then I'm like, all right, so
- 12:47Speaker 1: what do people do after that one o'clock window ends?
- 12:49Speaker 1: They probably use the four o'clock window. And then the
- 12:53Speaker 1: Lions Charger starts, and you're like, all right, we're another
- 12:55Speaker 1: shootout and Seahawks commanders, and then right into the Sunday
- 12:57Speaker 1: night game. The NFL is in a great place, and
- 13:00Speaker 1: I'm looking at the primetime games that are coming up
- 13:02Speaker 1: this week. Could you bring those up real quick on
- 13:04Speaker 1: the schedule, because I think a month of oh, I
- 13:06Speaker 1: would have circled this week and been like it's forgettable.
- 13:08Speaker 1: But Thursday night we have Bengals at Ravens, both teams
- 13:13Speaker 1: on the brink right now coming off bad losses. The
- 13:17Speaker 1: what's the Sunday night game? I think it's Vikings versus Broncos,
- 13:21Speaker 1: which suddenly becomes an awesome game. And then Monday Night
- 13:25Speaker 1: is Eagles Chiefs.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Hello, yeah, this is it's this week in particular, I
- 13:30Speaker 2: think is going to be just three back to back
- 13:33Speaker 2: great night games.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Unbelievable. And then we have the Thanksgiving slate. We're there, baby,
- 13:39Speaker 1: We're there. We turned the corner quickly. Some other news
- 13:43Speaker 1: and notes. I read another book, Henry Winkler's memoir.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Oh the Fun The Fonds.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I'd say, out of a five, if Stamos was a
- 13:55Speaker 1: five out of five, Winkler's a four out of five.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Okay, still pretty good.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Winkler a lot of daddy issues, goes deep into it.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It's got some stuff with the dad. I didn't know
- 14:04Speaker 1: that going in. Wink just a wonderful soul. Talks about
- 14:09Speaker 1: his career going and kind of in a rut post
- 14:11Speaker 1: Happy Days, trying to figure out he was a producer
- 14:12Speaker 1: on mcguiver. Did you know that?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Oh well, I was actually as you were talking about him,
- 14:15Speaker 2: I was trying to think. But obviously Fonds is like
- 14:18Speaker 2: a cultural touch point, and I was like, what is
- 14:20Speaker 2: the next thing I remember him in besides Arrested Development.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I'll give it to you water Boy. He plays the
- 14:26Speaker 1: coach Adam Sandler like saved his career. Adam Sandler puts
- 14:29Speaker 1: him in the water Boy. He's also a night shift
- 14:32Speaker 1: which is interesting, which I loved with Michael Keaton in
- 14:35Speaker 1: the early ages. Is Ron Howard's like first major studio film,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and Ron Howard of course worked with him as Richie Cunningham.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But you know, in the height of Happy Days, he's
- 14:44Speaker 1: doing Night Shift, a movie he's like, you know, before
- 14:46Speaker 1: Michael J. Fox was doing Family Ties and Back to
- 14:49Speaker 1: the Future and all the other movies that he was in.
- 14:52Speaker 1: It was kind of like Winkler. But then he has
- 14:54Speaker 1: this long rut and like it's it's very frustrating for him,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and his wife is just like super supportive but also
- 15:01Speaker 1: like you are a complete narcissist, and then he has
- 15:04Speaker 1: to pull himself out of it. Sandler throws him a
- 15:06Speaker 1: few boks. He does come of that stuff, and then
- 15:08Speaker 1: you're right arrested development. But then the big one is Barry,
- 15:11Speaker 1: where forty years after being nominated for an Emmy for
- 15:14Speaker 1: his role as the Fawns, he wins for his role
- 15:18Speaker 1: on Barry and it's like this cool, like, you know,
- 15:21Speaker 1: it's a Hollywood life story that this is a nice
- 15:24Speaker 1: guy from New York City who you know, was banging around.
- 15:28Speaker 1: He went to Yale for a grad degree in acting,
- 15:31Speaker 1: like was a real thespian, and they got typecasted as
- 15:33Speaker 1: the Fawns and then had to crawl out of that
- 15:36Speaker 1: over thirty forty years and then gets it. I think
- 15:39Speaker 1: it's a really good book. I think it's great for
- 15:42Speaker 1: a plane ride. As you know, I'm listening to audio
- 15:45Speaker 1: books to and from to and from now. Our dear
- 15:48Speaker 1: friend Paul Rudd and I were talking name drop, Paul
- 15:52Speaker 1: Rudd tells me last night at the Beacon Theater, he
- 15:57Speaker 1: was moderating an interview session with Geeddy Lee, the musician
- 16:02Speaker 1: from the band Rush, and because of his connection from you,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I Love You man like he's considered like, he's like,
- 16:10Speaker 1: he's like he had to read the book to like
- 16:12Speaker 1: front cover to cover, and then he moderated an hour
- 16:15Speaker 1: long panel session which is gonna be online of Paul
- 16:18Speaker 1: Rudd interviewing Geddy Lee at the Beacon Theater, which sounds incredible.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I do have a regret from last weekend. I was around.
- 16:24Speaker 1: It was New York Comedy week. I didn't get to
- 16:26Speaker 1: see any comedy. But Bill Burr performed, Sam Murrill performed
- 16:31Speaker 1: in New York, Tim Dillon performed. They all were out
- 16:35Speaker 1: here in New York, and of course I wasn't. I
- 16:38Speaker 1: wasn't there, all right, my phones ran because that's Mark
- 16:40Speaker 1: Dalton from the Cardinals. We've got an awesome guest coming
- 16:42Speaker 1: right up. Let's get him on as we speak. This
- 16:45Speaker 1: is Drew Petsing, who's the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals.
- 16:52Speaker 1: It had been eleven months since we had seen Kyler
- 16:55Speaker 1: Murray on a football field, and there on third and ten,
- 16:58Speaker 1: with the game on the line against a good Atlanta
- 17:01Speaker 1: Falcons defense, Kyler Murray did Kyler Murray things, and I
- 17:04Speaker 1: think a nation a sigh of relief knowing that not
- 17:08Speaker 1: only was Kyler back, but that the Cardinals were on
- 17:10Speaker 1: the right track. And his offensive coordinator with this new
- 17:13Speaker 1: coaching staff is a guy that I've been hearing about
- 17:14Speaker 1: for years. It's one of the bright young offensive mines
- 17:17Speaker 1: in the league, and I'm thrilled to have him on
- 17:19Speaker 1: the season with Peter Schrager. Mister Drew Petsing, Welcome to
- 17:23Speaker 1: the show, my man.
- 17:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I appreciate Peter.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Thanks a lot, man, Dude, I love your story, I
- 17:28Speaker 1: love everything I've heard about you. But I'll be candid.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We don't have this great personal friendship goes back ten years.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I've just been hearing about you for a really long time.
- 17:37Speaker 1: As we head in towards week eleven, you're feeling about
- 17:41Speaker 1: the state of this quarterback position with Kyler now on
- 17:44Speaker 1: the field and you could finally run your offense with
- 17:47Speaker 1: Kyler Murray at the switch.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it's exciting, I think, you know, certainly last you
- 17:51Speaker 3: know what two days ago. Last weekend was a big step,
- 17:53Speaker 3: you know, first time back on the field for him.
- 17:55Speaker 3: The emotions, the reality, the stress, the physical aspect of it.
- 17:59Speaker 6: So it was exciting. It was stressful.
- 18:01Speaker 3: I thought he handled it really well and it was
- 18:04Speaker 3: great to see him go out and perform like that
- 18:05Speaker 3: because I know he capable of it. You know, certainly
- 18:08Speaker 3: when you go through an injury like that. The process
- 18:10Speaker 3: that he had to go to to put himself back
- 18:11Speaker 3: on the field, learn a new offense, you know, get
- 18:13Speaker 3: to know his teammates while not really playing for the
- 18:16Speaker 3: offseason in training camp was really excited for him and
- 18:18Speaker 3: for us, and it was a lot of fun. You know.
- 18:20Speaker 1: The rap on Kyler going into the seasons, well, is
- 18:23Speaker 1: he going to be around? Is he going to be invested?
- 18:25Speaker 1: We don't know. How everything I've heard to him, Man,
- 18:28Speaker 1: this guy has been unbelievable in the building. While rehabbing.
- 18:32Speaker 1: What's been your impression of Kyler Murray just a few
- 18:34Speaker 1: months into working with him, since he got there back
- 18:37Speaker 1: in January.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you just hit on it. It was
- 18:39Speaker 3: impressive really from the get go. I mean to watch
- 18:41Speaker 3: the way that he attacked rehab. You know, I tore
- 18:42Speaker 3: my ICL my sophomore year of college. I know what
- 18:45Speaker 3: that rehab is like. Certainly, not at that level when
- 18:47Speaker 3: it's your job, it's your career, it's your livelihood. So
- 18:50Speaker 3: to just to watch the way he approached every day
- 18:52Speaker 3: in the training room on the field as he started
- 18:54Speaker 3: to get running again and then at the same time
- 18:57Speaker 3: learning a new system, learning a new language, learning a
- 18:59Speaker 3: new way of doing things, and he had to juggle
- 19:02Speaker 3: both of those in a very small amount of time.
- 19:04Speaker 3: And I thought he just did it with really such
- 19:06Speaker 3: convict in such focus and such drive.
- 19:08Speaker 6: So it was it was fun to be a part
- 19:10Speaker 6: of it.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Do you see stuff in practice? I know we saw
- 19:13Speaker 1: that play on third and ten, and he played really
- 19:14Speaker 1: well on Sunday, But do you see stuff in practice
- 19:16Speaker 1: that you're like, all right, I've coached a lot of quarterbacks,
- 19:19Speaker 1: but this guy does that not a lot to do.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Absolutely, you know, when you get a guy of that
- 19:23Speaker 3: talent level. It's a couple times a day and no
- 19:26Speaker 3: matter even the little things where you're just you might
- 19:28Speaker 3: it might be a RVA period or warm ups where
- 19:31Speaker 3: you just kind of your head snatch, like in the
- 19:33Speaker 3: world was that? Because he does he does so many
- 19:36Speaker 3: things that very few people can do and does it
- 19:39Speaker 3: at such a high level consistently.
- 19:40Speaker 6: It's impressive to walk.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, And did you think he would he would be
- 19:43Speaker 1: able to, you know, get the kitchen sinc thrown at
- 19:45Speaker 1: him in that first week. I didn't know if it
- 19:46Speaker 1: was gonna be like, here's five play, here's the Techmo offense,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you got four plays, Kyler, just don't hurt yourself. It
- 19:51Speaker 1: felt like, you guys, do the kitchen sink at him,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and he was able to do it in one hundred
- 19:54Speaker 1: percent full till we did.
- 19:55Speaker 3: We really held nothing back. Honestly, A lot of that
- 19:57Speaker 3: was his confidence to me, you know, so like I
- 20:00Speaker 3: kind of went into it, especially in the off season
- 20:02Speaker 3: we're building it, just saying like, all right, let's see
- 20:04Speaker 3: what he can handle. Let's see what because realistically, you know,
- 20:06Speaker 3: you look at it and I said this to some
- 20:07Speaker 3: people last week, what a offenses look like the first
- 20:10Speaker 3: week of preseason, when they've had three months to get ready,
- 20:13Speaker 3: two weeks of nothing but practice, it's sloppy. Then when
- 20:16Speaker 3: it's eleven starters that have been together and doing it
- 20:18Speaker 3: for months. I mean this guy basically did for three weeks,
- 20:21Speaker 3: you know, physically, So that was my mindset. But he
- 20:24Speaker 3: kind of assured me the entire time. He's like, believe me,
- 20:26Speaker 3: when I hit the field, I will be ready. I
- 20:28Speaker 3: can handle it. Don't worry about it. And he never
- 20:30Speaker 3: swayed from that message. So it gave me the confidence
- 20:32Speaker 3: to say, hey, he feels good about it. You watch
- 20:35Speaker 3: him do it in practice. He handled it well, you
- 20:37Speaker 3: know during the week, So we really we really didn't
- 20:39Speaker 3: hold a lot back.
- 20:40Speaker 6: I thought he handled it really well.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Now, before he got there, you had Dobbs, he had
- 20:42Speaker 1: Clayton Tune, Like was he involved in the week two
- 20:45Speaker 1: week game? And I think a lot of the questions
- 20:46Speaker 1: about Kyler is how invested is he with the you know,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Monday to Saturday stuff. Was he there helping them game
- 20:52Speaker 1: plan and kind of learning the playbook and getting it down.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Absolutely, I mean he in the meeting room, he's asking questions,
- 20:57Speaker 3: he's engaging with the other guys in that room. He's
- 20:59Speaker 3: he learned a ton from their reps, listening to the
- 21:01Speaker 3: questions they asked, watch their process in terms of how
- 21:04Speaker 3: Dobbs prepared, how Clayton prepared, the things that you know,
- 21:07Speaker 3: especially Clayton as a rookie, he might give him a
- 21:08Speaker 3: little piece of advice and say, hey, like, I see
- 21:10Speaker 3: why you're seeing it this way, this is how I
- 21:12Speaker 3: think about it. And it was fun to see that development,
- 21:15Speaker 3: that growth in his game and as a teammate. And
- 21:18Speaker 3: I think he helped the guys in that room, and
- 21:19Speaker 3: I think he also grew a lot from watching them
- 21:22Speaker 3: do it and learn the offense.
- 21:23Speaker 6: And talk through some of the stuff that we went through.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Dude, I watched this Cardinals team, and I know you
- 21:27Speaker 1: guys only have two and it's not like you guys
- 21:28Speaker 1: are like the seventy six Steelers of the eighty five Bears.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I get it, But gosh, is there not a team
- 21:32Speaker 1: in the league that fights harder and seems to have
- 21:35Speaker 1: more fun and goes out there and plays like we
- 21:37Speaker 1: know that the talent necessarily isn't you know, the greatest
- 21:40Speaker 1: show on turfor but your boys are playing like what's
- 21:43Speaker 1: the vibe there in Arizona that every week, no one
- 21:45Speaker 1: has packed it in. If anything, the team is getting
- 21:47Speaker 1: better as the season goes on.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's really been our focus since we got
- 21:51Speaker 3: here in April, when the first day the players showed up.
- 21:53Speaker 3: It's our goal is to get better every day, regardless
- 21:55Speaker 3: of outcome, regardless of score. Are you individually improving at
- 22:00Speaker 3: your job and coaching, playing organizationally? Are we doing the
- 22:04Speaker 3: things to make sure we're moving in the right direction, win, lose,
- 22:06Speaker 3: And I think that's the important thing. Like we came
- 22:08Speaker 3: in on Monday after the win on Sunday, it wasn't
- 22:10Speaker 3: any different than the week before after the Cleveland game.
- 22:13Speaker 3: It is, Hey, we won the game because we did
- 22:15Speaker 3: these things well, we could have lost the game.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Because we need to improve in these areas. That's the focus.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Continue to play at a high level, continue to play
- 22:21Speaker 3: your asshole from an effort perspective, and we're going to
- 22:23Speaker 3: end up where we want to be and it's going
- 22:25Speaker 3: to take time. You know, it's not an overnight fix
- 22:27Speaker 3: when it's good or bad, and there's always room for improvement.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I love your story personally. You're in your mid thirties,
- 22:33Speaker 1: you're one of the youngest play callers in the NFL.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Gannon's a defensive coach. Obviously, you guys come in, but
- 22:39Speaker 1: like you played in high school, you're the captain of
- 22:41Speaker 1: your team. You go to Middlebury, which I think of
- 22:44Speaker 1: historically as a lacrosse school if I'm being honest, like
- 22:47Speaker 1: that's a big lacrosse school. You're you're there, You're playing
- 22:50Speaker 1: defensive back. You get your career caught short by an injury.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And now, look, you're not an Alabama, ohiouse state. You're
- 22:55Speaker 1: at Middlebury and you still say, hey, I'm going to
- 22:58Speaker 1: pursue a life in football. When you hurt yourself and
- 23:02Speaker 1: you couldn't play football anymore in college and you're at
- 23:05Speaker 1: middle Bay. Are you a D three school? How do
- 23:08Speaker 1: you keep focused? How do you stay committed and say no, no, no,
- 23:11Speaker 1: but my football dream isn't necessarily over here. Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 3: I think I had a lot of really good people
- 23:15Speaker 3: around me. I relied heavily on coach Ritter. You know
- 23:17Speaker 3: my father, you know people that I was close with
- 23:19Speaker 3: because the game has been has always been so important
- 23:21Speaker 3: to me. I love the sport, I love the scheme,
- 23:23Speaker 3: I love the relationships you build, just the whole process
- 23:26Speaker 3: of what football brings to your life. So when it
- 23:29Speaker 3: got taken from me, I missed it and it really
- 23:31Speaker 3: kind of like put me in a funk, like and
- 23:33Speaker 3: not that I lost a piece of my identity, but
- 23:34Speaker 3: I really didn't have a direction, didn't know what I
- 23:36Speaker 3: wanted to do. And coach Ritter, who is the head
- 23:38Speaker 3: coach at the time, he just retired last year. You know,
- 23:42Speaker 3: I said, hey, can I help out? Can I stay
- 23:44Speaker 3: around the game? Can I help coach? It's something I
- 23:45Speaker 3: might be interested in. And he actually played with my father,
- 23:49Speaker 3: so he was like, I would love to let you
- 23:51Speaker 3: help out. He goes, but if you're a grade slip
- 23:53Speaker 3: at all, your dad is going to murder me.
- 23:55Speaker 6: He's like, so, just where did you grow up, Drew?
- 23:57Speaker 1: Are you Massachusetts guy?
- 23:59Speaker 6: When I was seven?
- 24:00Speaker 3: So it grew up just outside Boston and Wellesley, Massachusetts
- 24:03Speaker 3: and lived there most of my childhood. And so my
- 24:05Speaker 3: first year I volunteered in the fall. My junior year
- 24:08Speaker 3: didn't play, helped out on defense because I played safety
- 24:11Speaker 3: and just like fell in love with it, like you know,
- 24:13Speaker 3: a D three school. I think there was seven guys
- 24:15Speaker 3: on staff. Yeah, like as an eighth guy, you got
- 24:17Speaker 3: to be very involved. Like I was doing breakdowns, I
- 24:20Speaker 3: got to coach, I was helping film practice, I was
- 24:22Speaker 3: doing film exchanges and just loved it. And then that
- 24:26Speaker 3: summer I did a business program at Dartmouth, the Tough
- 24:29Speaker 3: Business Bridge Program, and it was like an intensive business
- 24:32Speaker 3: course to look at finance and court.
- 24:34Speaker 1: You know, all tell me you're a Buddy Steven's disciple
- 24:37Speaker 1: as well, are you?
- 24:38Speaker 6: No, I'm not.
- 24:39Speaker 2: OK.
- 24:39Speaker 3: It was strictly from a school perspective, but it was
- 24:41Speaker 3: that contrast of like, all right, I could do this,
- 24:43Speaker 3: and I could go into banking or finance or you know,
- 24:46Speaker 3: or I could coach football. And I'm like, God, that
- 24:48Speaker 3: fall of football was one hundred times more enjoyable. And
- 24:51Speaker 3: I'm like, and if you can make money doing this,
- 24:53Speaker 3: I'm doing this. So it was kind of just put
- 24:55Speaker 3: all the eggs in that basket. Try to start to
- 24:57Speaker 3: meet people and get connected with people in different areas.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Learn everything I could from a coaching perspective, and I
- 25:02Speaker 3: was very fortunate in my career early to be around
- 25:04Speaker 3: some great people that grew me, developed me, invested in me,
- 25:07Speaker 3: and taught me a lot about the business and helped
- 25:09Speaker 3: me with some great opportunity.
- 25:10Speaker 1: So you see a light, you see football, you see joy.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Your first gig was in two thousand and nine. You
- 25:15Speaker 1: were a volunteer student assistant at Harvard. How does that happen?
- 25:18Speaker 1: And what was that role?
- 25:20Speaker 3: Yeah, so it was kind of like, so, as I said,
- 25:21Speaker 3: so volunteer my junior year.
- 25:23Speaker 6: I actually had enough credits.
- 25:24Speaker 3: I didn't take any classes my senior year, and I
- 25:26Speaker 3: was going to volunteer and they had an open position,
- 25:28Speaker 3: so they ended up paying. I was a senior in college,
- 25:30Speaker 3: living off campus and not taking classes.
- 25:32Speaker 6: Coaching football. It was like the truly the like. It
- 25:34Speaker 6: was the dreat like it it was the best.
- 25:36Speaker 3: And and when school was coming to a close, it
- 25:38Speaker 3: was like, all right, I gotta start talking to people.
- 25:40Speaker 3: I got to find my next job. I want to
- 25:41Speaker 3: stay in football. I want to make this work. And
- 25:43Speaker 3: I just started kind of using the small connections I had.
- 25:45Speaker 3: And a family friend, Ben Bloom, who's the D line
- 25:48Speaker 3: coach now with the Browns, was an assistant D line
- 25:52Speaker 3: coach at Harvard from Wellesley, so from my hometown, and
- 25:55Speaker 3: I kind of he was one of the guys I
- 25:56Speaker 3: reached out to and he goes, hey, you know funny
- 25:58Speaker 3: you called, he goes. We were talking to staff meeting
- 26:00Speaker 3: this morning. We're looking for an unpaid intern. You're not
- 26:02Speaker 3: going to make any money, but it's a great foot
- 26:04Speaker 3: in the door. And I kind of feel like coach,
- 26:06Speaker 3: you know, Murphy, who's still at Harvard, would let me
- 26:08Speaker 3: have pretty big say on who we bring in. Are
- 26:10Speaker 3: you interested? I said, if the job's there, I'll like,
- 26:12Speaker 3: I'm there tomorrow.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 3: And so I went down there for the spring game
- 26:15Speaker 3: and met those guys, and then literally I graduated on Sunday.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I drove home Monday. I was in a staff meeting
- 26:21Speaker 3: Tuesday morning and worked there that first season, unpaid on defense,
- 26:24Speaker 3: and it was all, I mean, the amount of football
- 26:26Speaker 3: I learned, what I got exposed to, it was. It
- 26:29Speaker 3: was awesome.
- 26:29Speaker 1: It's funny because Middlebury, if the listeners at home don't
- 26:32Speaker 1: like you go to I'm in We're in lowerman he
- 26:34Speaker 1: you go to Wall Street. Every other person is Harvard, Yale, Middlebury,
- 26:37Speaker 1: like all these and you could have had that walk.
- 26:40Speaker 1: You could have walked that walk. You're like, no football.
- 26:42Speaker 1: You go to b C to be an assistant, then
- 26:44Speaker 1: you end up at Yale. I imagine Middlebury, BC Yale, Harvard,
- 26:49Speaker 1: You're collecting people in your lives that, yes, football, but
- 26:53Speaker 1: some of the most interesting people in the world who
- 26:54Speaker 1: are doing some crazy, big things right now.
- 26:56Speaker 6: Yeah, as you said. And then mostly the players, the students.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I mean it was like I remember talking to some
- 27:01Speaker 3: of the guys as they were graduated at Harvard and
- 27:02Speaker 3: the opportunities they were just you know, I was unpaid
- 27:05Speaker 3: and they're deciding to do I have this six figure
- 27:07Speaker 3: job with this bonus. I'm like, that money doesn't seem
- 27:10Speaker 3: real to me. I don't like the mind blowing to me.
- 27:12Speaker 3: The opportunities those guys had, obviously because of who they
- 27:15Speaker 3: are and what they were a part of.
- 27:16Speaker 2: And but yeah, it was.
- 27:17Speaker 3: It was. It was really great to get exposed to
- 27:19Speaker 3: those type people on so many different areas, so many
- 27:21Speaker 3: different levels.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Twenty thirteen, an NFL gig opens up your four years
- 27:26Speaker 1: into coaching and it's an intern with the operation side
- 27:30Speaker 1: of the Cleveland Browns. How does that come a bit
- 27:33Speaker 1: come to me? And was that Mike Petton? Was that
- 27:35Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan? What team was that?
- 27:36Speaker 3: So? Rob Chazinski was the head coach Chud it was
- 27:39Speaker 3: his first year. I'd never been in the NFL. I really,
- 27:42Speaker 3: I still don't exactly know, because I didn't know anybody
- 27:45Speaker 3: in the building.
- 27:46Speaker 6: I believe Alex Shriner was the president.
- 27:48Speaker 3: He'd just come over from Dallas, and Chud wanted to
- 27:51Speaker 3: hire those that New England position of like that. They
- 27:53Speaker 3: called it twenty for twenty, like you work twenty hours
- 27:55Speaker 3: a day, yep, for twenty grand the entire year.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And but he never the Ravens. The Ravens do like
- 28:01Speaker 1: an actual ceremony about their twenty twenty guys. I'm always like, guys,
- 28:04Speaker 1: all right, sure, but there's like a long trichdition of
- 28:06Speaker 1: all those Ravens front office guys. They all walked that walk.
- 28:09Speaker 6: Oh yeah, so and so they'd never had done it before.
- 28:12Speaker 3: So I think what happened was, you know, Aleck had
- 28:15Speaker 3: just come from Dallas, where they had done the position.
- 28:17Speaker 6: Chud had never done it. So Alex was like, Hey,
- 28:19Speaker 6: call a couple of these guys.
- 28:20Speaker 3: And the guys that had done it at Dallas, Ben Bloom,
- 28:23Speaker 3: Dave Borgonzi, now with the Bears, were guys that I
- 28:26Speaker 3: worked with at Harvard when I was unpaid, And so
- 28:28Speaker 3: they called these guys and said, hey, what did you
- 28:30Speaker 3: make what did you do?
- 28:31Speaker 6: What was your role?
- 28:32Speaker 3: And they kind of answered the question said, hey, if
- 28:33Speaker 3: you're looking for a guy, there's a guy Yale who
- 28:36Speaker 3: would be a great candidate.
- 28:36Speaker 6: I'm sure he'd love the opportunity. He'd give him a call.
- 28:39Speaker 3: So I kind of got a call out of the blue,
- 28:41Speaker 3: and I was like, yeah, like absolutely, They're like, hey, look,
- 28:43Speaker 3: it's going to be a big pay cut because I Yale,
- 28:44Speaker 3: I had my first position job, I was hitting my
- 28:46Speaker 3: own hair job, I was coaching the outside linebackers, was
- 28:49Speaker 3: recruiting the West Coast, actually recruited Foyer Olakun.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Like he could be Yale killing it for the Jaguars.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Love watching him play because obviously got close with him
- 28:57Speaker 3: through the recruiting process. And I was like absolutely, like NFL,
- 29:01Speaker 3: if it's an opportunity, I'd love to take it, Like
- 29:03Speaker 3: don't really care what the role is, Like, let me
- 29:04Speaker 3: in the building and I'll figure it out.
- 29:06Speaker 6: And went through the process.
- 29:07Speaker 3: It was kind of a wild and I got snowed
- 29:09Speaker 3: in out there for like three days during my interview,
- 29:11Speaker 3: and on the third day, Chud was like, well at
- 29:13Speaker 3: this point, you basically just work here the job, So yeah,
- 29:17Speaker 3: and then kind of the rest was history. And at
- 29:19Speaker 3: that point I'd really only been on defense, Like I
- 29:21Speaker 3: played safety, played linebacker. Coach TV's at Middlebury, was a
- 29:25Speaker 3: defensive jay at Boston College, and so my first week there,
- 29:28Speaker 3: Ray Horton was the defensive coordinator. I put his playbook
- 29:30Speaker 3: into visio from PowerPoint. I was like, I'm on defense.
- 29:34Speaker 3: And then Norv just like started yelling my name down
- 29:36Speaker 3: the hallway for random things like he'd want coffee or
- 29:39Speaker 3: a cut up, or he'd want to talk about something
- 29:41Speaker 3: he saw on social media, and like before the OTA started,
- 29:44Speaker 3: He's like, now you're on offense now.
- 29:45Speaker 6: And I was like, okay, I'm on offense here.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And I'm working with North Turner, hall of fame coach
- 29:49Speaker 1: who you know, Troy ik Vin swear Spy, Okay.
- 29:51Speaker 6: Yeah, and he was, I mean, I can't. I could
- 29:53Speaker 6: go on about him.
- 29:54Speaker 1: For I love North too.
- 29:55Speaker 3: One of the best, right, absolute best person coach. I mean,
- 29:59Speaker 3: I probably owe ninety five percent of my career to
- 30:02Speaker 3: that guy. But just like he just took me under
- 30:04Speaker 3: his wing, put me on offense, sat in the you know,
- 30:06Speaker 3: they let me move around that first off season. I
- 30:08Speaker 3: jumped in the tight end room the receiver room, the
- 30:10Speaker 3: O line room, and then when the season started, I
- 30:12Speaker 3: was in the quarterback room with Norvin Chaine Steichen, who
- 30:14Speaker 3: was a quality control coach at the time. Yeah, I
- 30:17Speaker 3: mean it was wild. It was a quick transition. But
- 30:18Speaker 3: those guys really they grew me as a coach. I
- 30:20Speaker 3: mean I'd never been on offense. I never called to
- 30:22Speaker 3: play in it. For me, like it was all new
- 30:24Speaker 3: to me, and they gave me the opportunity to learn
- 30:26Speaker 3: it and be a part of it, and obviously very
- 30:27Speaker 3: thankful for that.
- 30:28Speaker 1: All Right, you're in your twenties. I assume at this
- 30:30Speaker 1: time you're single. You've got just like take me wherever
- 30:33Speaker 1: I got to go to do this job. The Minnesota
- 30:36Speaker 1: Vikings calling, you're there for an extended amount of time.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Who brought you to Minnesota was at NorVa.
- 30:40Speaker 3: So yeah, And I can't say I was single because
- 30:42Speaker 3: my wife would get really mad at if she say, no,
- 30:44Speaker 3: you're good.
- 30:45Speaker 6: We were no, here's five.
- 30:46Speaker 3: It was like that's part of the hilarious, Like we
- 30:47Speaker 3: were long distance and so like I was moving and
- 30:50Speaker 3: she's like, what in the world are you doing? And
- 30:52Speaker 3: what do you do? Then do Yeah, like when I
- 30:54Speaker 3: got snowed in in Cleveland. She was coming to visit me.
- 30:57Speaker 3: She stayed in the I don't know if you remember
- 31:00Speaker 3: that massive storm we got in twenty twelve or twenty thirteen,
- 31:03Speaker 3: Like they had tanks through the streets of New Haven
- 31:05Speaker 3: because you couldn't get anywhere. Yeah, he got stuck in
- 31:07Speaker 3: my apartment.
- 31:07Speaker 6: I never saw her. She I got back before she
- 31:09Speaker 6: had to go back.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I mean it was yeah, so I was the one
- 31:13Speaker 1: few honey.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so we were when we got let go in Cleveland.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Uh No, I just stuck around him like until someone
- 31:19Speaker 3: literally kicks me.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Out of the.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Showing up of like I'll be operations, I'll be scouting,
- 31:26Speaker 3: I'll be coaching, like whatever it takes.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Not to interrupt. But that's what Sala said. He was
- 31:29Speaker 1: with Houston, and I guess Koobiak got fired. Dom Caper's
- 31:33Speaker 1: got fired, and Sala was like, no one told me
- 31:35Speaker 1: I didn't have a job. So I just showed up
- 31:37Speaker 1: the next day and like Kubiak's like, who are you Okay?
- 31:39Speaker 1: You're on the staff, Like it works that way at
- 31:40Speaker 1: the lowest level.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Oh.
- 31:41Speaker 6: Absolutely, And you know, so I was picking guys up
- 31:43Speaker 6: from the airport.
- 31:43Speaker 3: I was grabbing dinners like I delivered dinner to Mike
- 31:46Speaker 3: Petton one night because he had just got you know,
- 31:47Speaker 3: after a couple of weeks he got hired.
- 31:49Speaker 6: I think he thought she thought I was the delivery guy.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I'm like, no, I'm down the hall. I'm just in operations.
- 31:54Speaker 3: If you need anybody, I'll be there. I can do
- 31:55Speaker 3: whatever you need. And uh, Norma got the job in
- 31:58Speaker 3: Minnesota and and ended up having an opportunity. It was,
- 32:01Speaker 3: you know, it was again it would be a longer
- 32:03Speaker 3: story than we probably have time for, but almost ended
- 32:05Speaker 3: up in Dallas.
- 32:05Speaker 6: Ben Bloom was in Dallas and they had a similar role.
- 32:08Speaker 3: But Norvid kind of told me, hey, whatever you do,
- 32:10Speaker 3: you don't take a job without calling me.
- 32:12Speaker 6: Yeah, obviously I'm gonna do right by you.
- 32:14Speaker 3: So when Dallas called, I was on the phone with
- 32:16Speaker 3: Jason Garrett and he said, hey, we want to fly
- 32:17Speaker 3: out for an interview for this indor position.
- 32:19Speaker 6: Ben talk really highly of you think could be a
- 32:21Speaker 6: great fit.
- 32:21Speaker 3: And I was like, yeah, I don't. I mean I
- 32:22Speaker 3: don't have a job. So like I'm there, I'll go
- 32:23Speaker 3: to play tomorrow. And I said Jason, I just nor
- 32:27Speaker 3: you know, really, you know, made me promise him wouldn't
- 32:29Speaker 3: take a job without calling him, like are you okay
- 32:31Speaker 3: if I call nor, which you know I was taking
- 32:34Speaker 3: a little bit of a leap of faith there, but
- 32:36Speaker 3: Jason played for North and loved North, and so Jason
- 32:39Speaker 3: was like, absolutely, give norm a call.
- 32:40Speaker 6: You got to do right by him, like let me
- 32:42Speaker 6: know what he says.
- 32:43Speaker 3: So, in like a thirty minute process, was on the
- 32:45Speaker 3: phone with Jason called nor and Norrah's like, nope, you're
- 32:48Speaker 3: coming to Minnesota Rix film and the gym is.
- 32:49Speaker 6: Going to call you in ten minutes.
- 32:51Speaker 3: You got a job.
- 32:51Speaker 6: We'll get you out here this week.
- 32:52Speaker 3: And I was like I went from like unemployment to
- 32:55Speaker 3: like two opportunities in twenty minutes and then had to
- 32:57Speaker 3: call Jason back. I was like, hey, Jason, I'm sorry,
- 32:59Speaker 3: I appreciate it. I'm going to Minnesota with NORV Like
- 33:02Speaker 3: I didn't really think it was gonna happen like that.
- 33:03Speaker 6: This is my first time through the process.
- 33:05Speaker 3: And Jason was awesome, very understanding, but it was it
- 33:08Speaker 3: was a whirlin so yeah, one year and then ended
- 33:10Speaker 3: up in Minnesota there in twenty fourteen, and.
- 33:12Speaker 1: You're there for a bit. Is zim the coach when
- 33:14Speaker 1: you're there as the head coach.
- 33:15Speaker 3: It was Zim's first year in twenty fourteen, Norri's first year.
- 33:19Speaker 3: And then, you know, I've.
- 33:20Speaker 6: Told the story.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I got picked up at the airport to go sign
- 33:22Speaker 3: my contract and meet everybody. And the guy that I
- 33:25Speaker 3: got picked up, you know, and Opscott picked us up
- 33:26Speaker 3: was me. Jonathan Gannon and Evan Marcus all got picked
- 33:29Speaker 3: up in the car together. I didn't know any of
- 33:31Speaker 3: those guys at the time and worked together with them
- 33:33Speaker 3: for four years and stayed there in Minnesota for six.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Who the wide outs you're working with, because I look
- 33:38Speaker 1: at your that position group legendary history. Yet there might
- 33:41Speaker 1: have been some lulls as far as big name was.
- 33:43Speaker 1: It was post Moss, post Carter, pri Jefferson, so Feeling
- 33:47Speaker 1: Jerris right who were dealing with.
- 33:49Speaker 3: When I first got there. So I was in the
- 33:50Speaker 3: running back room my first year with Kirbie Wilson. He
- 33:52Speaker 3: had Adrian Peterson, we drafted Jack McKinnon, We had Jerome
- 33:56Speaker 3: felt and playing full back. And then the second year
- 33:58Speaker 3: I moved into the whiteout room. Jerryus was still there.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Greg Jennings I believe left the second year, Cordell Patterson,
- 34:03Speaker 3: Charles Johnson, we drafted Diggs and was still on the
- 34:07Speaker 3: practice squad at that time. Wow, and then stayed in that,
- 34:10Speaker 3: you know, and then my three years in that room
- 34:11Speaker 3: as an assistant, feeling became feeling obviously Diggs became Digs,
- 34:15Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, you had, you know, one
- 34:16Speaker 3: of the best receiver rooms in the NFL.
- 34:18Speaker 6: Again, Uh, just by nature of those two players.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Give me a good dig story that would sum up
- 34:23Speaker 1: young Stefan dis because he's a fifth round pick. He's
- 34:25Speaker 1: not a guy in a first round calibers some of
- 34:27Speaker 1: these other guys. And yet since he got on the field,
- 34:29Speaker 1: he's been making places.
- 34:30Speaker 3: And I think that his work ethic and his love
- 34:32Speaker 3: of the game of football and his just desire to
- 34:34Speaker 3: be great was unbelievable, Like I can.
- 34:36Speaker 6: Remember, And it was one of those I can't remember.
- 34:39Speaker 3: It was after practice, like we were not in the
- 34:41Speaker 3: building or like as players, like we weren't on the field,
- 34:43Speaker 3: and you walk in the indoor and the dude has
- 34:45Speaker 3: a like full lather, looks like he's been running one
- 34:47Speaker 3: hundred and fifty routes, and to the point where like
- 34:50Speaker 3: almost happened so consistently we had to stop we're like, dude,
- 34:52Speaker 3: you're gonna hurt yourself, like you're overworking, like you need
- 34:56Speaker 3: to slow down. And he was just one of those
- 34:57Speaker 3: guys like every time, as you said, every time he
- 34:59Speaker 3: touched the field, it was kind of those head turning
- 35:01Speaker 3: moments where you're like who was Like who was the
- 35:04Speaker 3: run that route? Like he just killed the top corner
- 35:06Speaker 3: scout team, Like he made unbelievable catch, and it was
- 35:08Speaker 3: like over and over and over again at the point
- 35:10Speaker 3: where like we got to put this guy on the field,
- 35:11Speaker 3: like because he was inactive for his first four or
- 35:14Speaker 3: five games I remember, and then somebody got hurt.
- 35:16Speaker 6: And he hit the field.
- 35:16Speaker 3: I think his first game was in Denver, the year
- 35:18Speaker 3: they had the year they won the Super Bowl. It
- 35:20Speaker 3: would have been the year they won the Super Bowl
- 35:22Speaker 3: with all the fifteen with Talib and Chris Harris and
- 35:28Speaker 3: they had another really good corner and Jackson maybe and
- 35:31Speaker 3: him and Dealing like went off like I think BIG's
- 35:33Speaker 3: had one hundred yards at Denver and it was like,
- 35:36Speaker 3: all right, he's not giving this job back, like he's
- 35:38Speaker 3: the guy, Like it's very clear.
- 35:40Speaker 1: That Minnesota miracle where were you take us take us through?
- 35:45Speaker 3: It was wild. I mean, I you know, it's you
- 35:47Speaker 3: never say the game's over. But a guy fell close
- 35:50Speaker 3: and uh, you know, the ball goes up and you're like,
- 35:53Speaker 3: all right, you know when he caught it and he
- 35:55Speaker 3: ran the ends on the place went nuts. But in
- 35:57Speaker 3: the booth, you're always like, is a flag down? He
- 35:59Speaker 3: didn't how much time is left? So like I don't
- 36:01Speaker 3: think we like nobody moved for a good like thirty
- 36:04Speaker 3: seconds to a minute as we kind of process what happened.
- 36:07Speaker 3: And then once everything was like it was, I mean,
- 36:09Speaker 3: it went it was like complete pandemonium, chaos. Like I
- 36:12Speaker 3: was down on the field by the time we took
- 36:14Speaker 3: the knee on the two point play.
- 36:15Speaker 6: I think, well, they brought everyone back.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Yes, Thomas Morriston had to come back.
- 36:21Speaker 3: You know. Yeah, Like I still get the chills when
- 36:23Speaker 3: I see highlights of that player think about like it's
- 36:25Speaker 3: just it was such a cool moment to be a
- 36:27Speaker 3: part of, and I mean obviously unbelievable play on so
- 36:29Speaker 3: many levels.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I imagine you go as Stefanski because I see your
- 36:32Speaker 1: next job and the resume as you go to Cleveland
- 36:35Speaker 1: for a couple of years. Stefanski gets the head gig
- 36:37Speaker 1: in Cleveland. Does he call you up and say, Drew,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I need you buddy.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean I worked with Kevin for nine years,
- 36:42Speaker 3: so we were together six in Minnesota and three in Cleveland.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Developed a great relationship with him. He was one of
- 36:46Speaker 3: those guys who brought me under his wing. And you know,
- 36:47Speaker 3: he had a young coach, got his first position job
- 36:49Speaker 3: there in Minnesota when I got there, and and just
- 36:52Speaker 3: taught me so much about the game, how to coach,
- 36:54Speaker 3: how to develop relationship with the players, the big picture
- 36:56Speaker 3: of the NFL. And so when he got that opportunity
- 36:59Speaker 3: and Zim was willing to let me have that opportunity
- 37:02Speaker 3: to go with him, I was special. You know, I
- 37:03Speaker 3: have a ton of respect for him and obviously oh
- 37:06Speaker 3: so much to him. So it was fun to be
- 37:07Speaker 3: a part of his first time doing it, running the show,
- 37:10Speaker 3: being in charge. It was awesome. All right.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Now, take us you go to Arizona with Gannon. Obviously
- 37:15Speaker 1: you had a history with him. Take us to the
- 37:17Speaker 1: Josh Dobbs roller coaster before the season. I know you're
- 37:20Speaker 1: obviously intimately involved because of the Cleveland thing, and we'll
- 37:24Speaker 1: wrap shortly, but I got to hear how Dobbs ends
- 37:27Speaker 1: up in Arizona and you had to play some sort
- 37:29Speaker 1: of role because he was in Cleveland with you too.
- 37:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I certainly had a relationship with him.
- 37:32Speaker 3: MANI our GM had him the last couple of games
- 37:34Speaker 3: there in Tennessee, and I think it's one of those
- 37:36Speaker 3: things that as an organization, we're always going to try
- 37:38Speaker 3: to make the team better in any little thing we
- 37:40Speaker 3: can do from a roster perspective in terms of the
- 37:42Speaker 3: way we operate. So it was like my job, and
- 37:44Speaker 3: I said this to it, was like, Hey, everybody in
- 37:46Speaker 3: that room, my job is to get you ready to
- 37:47Speaker 3: start in the NFL. And I think Moni came to
- 37:49Speaker 3: me somewhere during the you know, the end of training game,
- 37:51Speaker 3: say hey, I think this is an opportunity that may
- 37:53Speaker 3: be available to us. What are your thoughts on it?
- 37:55Speaker 3: How do you feel about the person the player? How
- 37:57Speaker 3: long will it take to get him ready if this
- 37:58Speaker 3: is the move? And I just kind of broke it down.
- 38:00Speaker 3: I said, look, the language is going to be early similar.
- 38:03Speaker 3: He's an extremely smart player, so I don't think there's
- 38:05Speaker 3: going to be like a long runway certainly.
- 38:07Speaker 6: Here the pros what he brings to the team here.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Obviously some of the issues of bringing him in ten
- 38:11Speaker 3: days before the season, but if that's the decision that
- 38:14Speaker 3: we choose an organization to think this gives us the
- 38:16Speaker 3: best chance, I know we can make it work. And
- 38:18Speaker 3: MONI did a great job and has done a great
- 38:20Speaker 3: job since I've been here, always trying to improve the
- 38:22Speaker 3: roster and always trying to make us competitive. So it's
- 38:25Speaker 3: it was one of those things he thought it was
- 38:26Speaker 3: best for the team. I certainly was on board, with
- 38:27Speaker 3: A JG obviously a big part of that. And he
- 38:30Speaker 3: got in here and hit the ground running very quickly,
- 38:32Speaker 3: and kudos to him because that's not an easy task.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I mean, that was unbelievable in itself. And then he
- 38:36Speaker 1: has a second chapter already with Minnesota. Have you reached
- 38:38Speaker 1: out to him at all and just said, hey, bro,
- 38:40Speaker 1: like I'm watching, like I know their rivals, but it's
- 38:42Speaker 1: been unbelievable.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely so, we like when we obviously last week
- 38:46Speaker 3: when we lost to Cleveland was his first game playing
- 38:49Speaker 3: checked the stat line texted him right away was so
- 38:51Speaker 3: far up from him, and it's so far. I love
- 38:53Speaker 3: watching him play, love the energy he brings. He's obviously
- 38:55Speaker 3: done a great job for them, and I think, you know,
- 38:57Speaker 3: it really worked out for everybody. I think that's the
- 38:59Speaker 3: when when you can have a win win like that,
- 39:00Speaker 3: it's it's always a good situation.
- 39:02Speaker 1: All right. And now back to the Cardinals wrapping it
- 39:04Speaker 1: up with this Kyler Honors back on the field, We've
- 39:07Speaker 1: got all these young wide receivers Ron Dill and of
- 39:10Speaker 1: course Marquis and then I'm loving what I'm seeing this
- 39:13Speaker 1: kid Michael Wilson, and then Trey McBride, the tight end
- 39:15Speaker 1: who took a little while in his career to get going,
- 39:17Speaker 1: is now a real factor. So much young talent. And
- 39:21Speaker 1: then you have the number six overall pick in Johnson
- 39:23Speaker 1: playing well on offensive line like this. If you're a
- 39:26Speaker 1: viewer at home and you don't watch a lot of
- 39:27Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinals football, what would be your message to them,
- 39:30Speaker 1: but what they can expect for the second half of
- 39:31Speaker 1: the season.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's where you hit on early. And
- 39:34Speaker 3: as we were talking, it's the effort and energy we
- 39:35Speaker 3: play with. I think that's got to be our calling card.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Is we have to outwork people, we have to out
- 39:39Speaker 3: effort people. We have to play with an energy and
- 39:41Speaker 3: an enthusiasm that people aren't either capable or willing to
- 39:43Speaker 3: match consistently, regardless score, regardless of outcome. So I think
- 39:47Speaker 3: that's what we want to have. The guys have fum
- 39:49Speaker 3: playing football and going out there and enjoying what they're
- 39:51Speaker 3: doing and doing at a high level, and I think
- 39:52Speaker 3: they're seeing that from the young guys in the locker room,
- 39:54Speaker 3: really from everybody. I think the team's really embrace that attitude,
- 39:56Speaker 3: that energy, and it's fun to be a part of
- 39:58Speaker 3: and it keeps you competitive, it keeps you in games.
- 40:00Speaker 3: And we got to do a little bit more and
- 40:02Speaker 3: a little bit better to win some of these games
- 40:03Speaker 3: and to turn the time. But I think everybody feels
- 40:06Speaker 3: like it is really close, and I think that's where
- 40:07Speaker 3: the buying and the energy and the effort comes from.
- 40:09Speaker 6: And we just got to keep it going.
- 40:11Speaker 1: And Kyler he's been his exceeded expectations from what it
- 40:13Speaker 1: sounds like.
- 40:14Speaker 6: Yeah, he's been awesome.
- 40:15Speaker 3: I can't say enough about him as a player, as
- 40:17Speaker 3: a person, as a teammate.
- 40:18Speaker 6: He's been extremely fun to work with.
- 40:20Speaker 3: I was so fired up for him and so proud
- 40:21Speaker 3: of him just to watch him go out there and
- 40:23Speaker 3: do what I know he's capable of, and certainly he
- 40:25Speaker 3: knows he's capable of, but it's always fun when you
- 40:27Speaker 3: get to put it on that stage.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Did you see the sky cam angle yet that they.
- 40:30Speaker 6: Did everything about it?
- 40:31Speaker 3: Obviously, that play was all coaching, right team. Everybody was sorry,
- 40:34Speaker 3: good job by you.
- 40:35Speaker 1: You told him do a pirouett and run.
- 40:38Speaker 3: I mean that's what he's I mean, he's so like
- 40:41Speaker 3: it was. It's unbelievable. I mean it's a game saving play.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I mean it's third and ten. To go make that
- 40:45Speaker 3: play in that situation, very few people were capable of
- 40:48Speaker 3: doing that. So it was just so fired up for him,
- 40:50Speaker 3: for us obviously, and it was it was fun to
- 40:52Speaker 3: watch him go do that.
- 40:54Speaker 1: I end every interview with the same question, and it
- 40:56Speaker 1: was Nick Cassario was on last week and I said,
- 40:59Speaker 1: if you were at the combine and a twenty something
- 41:01Speaker 1: year old guy comes up and he's got an ill fooded,
- 41:03Speaker 1: ill fitting suit and he's got the Manila folder with
- 41:06Speaker 1: like a may but it's just like college accolades and says,
- 41:09Speaker 1: I want to get in the NFL, and you have
- 41:11Speaker 1: one elevator ride twenty seconds. Let's put yourself in that
- 41:15Speaker 1: Indianapolis situation. You got all the team gear on, you
- 41:18Speaker 1: got the Cardinals stuff, and you just happen to be
- 41:20Speaker 1: in with a kid, and he kind of has the
- 41:22Speaker 1: courage to ask, Hey, Drew, I know you're in your
- 41:24Speaker 1: mid thirties and I'm in my early twenties, but like,
- 41:26Speaker 1: what would be your one piece of advice for getting
- 41:28Speaker 1: in the league.
- 41:29Speaker 6: Yeah, to be willing to do whatever it takes.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Be willing to take any opportunity, no matter how small,
- 41:34Speaker 3: no matter what building it in, no matter what the
- 41:35Speaker 3: role is, and do a really good job at it.
- 41:38Speaker 3: And it doesn't matter what that role is, embrace it,
- 41:40Speaker 3: be the best at it, and develop great relationships as
- 41:43Speaker 3: you go in that role. You know, the way that
- 41:45Speaker 3: you connect with people, the way that you interact with
- 41:47Speaker 3: any building that you get into, regardless of what they're
- 41:50Speaker 3: asking you do, I think is so important to your
- 41:52Speaker 3: overall goal.
- 41:53Speaker 6: Of getting into the NFL and continue to.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Make it true. This is awesome. Drew Petsing, offensive coordinator
- 41:59Speaker 1: of the Arizona Cardinals, fun young offense mid season. I
- 42:03Speaker 1: understand there's a million things you've got to be doing.
- 42:05Speaker 1: You got to be in the lab cooking and getting
- 42:06Speaker 1: Kyler going. But I so appreciate you taking twenty minutes
- 42:09Speaker 1: to hop on the podcast. It's a real pleasure for Rostt.
- 42:11Speaker 6: Yeah, appreciate you guys. Thanks a lot for having me.
- 42:13Speaker 1: I was really juice to be on awesome stuff. Drew Pettsing,
- 42:16Speaker 1: offensive coordinator of the Cardinals. Good luck this weekend, man,
- 42:18Speaker 1: Thanks a lot. I didn't know how he would take it.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Drew Petsing's thirty four, Aaron thirty six? Isn't he thirty six?
- 42:29Speaker 2: I think he's thirty six.
- 42:30Speaker 1: I know he's younger than me. He's in his thirties,
- 42:32Speaker 1: like super young.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Thirty six.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Yeah, very impressive.
- 42:37Speaker 2: I always love when, like a coach or a coordinator
- 42:40Speaker 2: comes from one side of the ball and then moves
- 42:42Speaker 2: to the other. True other than Matt Patricia, but other than.
- 42:47Speaker 1: That, relate in life. I remember what back in the day,
- 42:50Speaker 1: the Eagles were rolling and they had a guy named
- 42:53Speaker 1: Juan Castillo who was their offensive line. Coaches like peak
- 42:56Speaker 1: Andy Reid, like dream team Eagles, and then they moved
- 43:00Speaker 1: him the defensive coordinator, and like it does, sometimes doesn't work.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Drew was early enough in his career where he went
- 43:06Speaker 1: from defense to offense. You think about those mentors North
- 43:09Speaker 1: Turner and then like Stefanski, I look at us a
- 43:11Speaker 1: peer because the fancy's my age. He's early forties and
- 43:14Speaker 1: he's like I really looked up to Stefanski, and it's like,
- 43:17Speaker 1: there's young guns coming and thirty six years old. I
- 43:19Speaker 1: know mcveigh's thirty six as well, and you've got guys
- 43:22Speaker 1: who are in their thirties all across the league, but
- 43:25Speaker 1: Drew's one of them. And I kind of liked the
- 43:27Speaker 1: fact he didn't He didn't necessarily play at Ohio State,
- 43:30Speaker 1: he didn't play at Penn State. He was hurt his
- 43:33Speaker 1: sophomore year at Middlebury and was like, screw it, I'm
- 43:36Speaker 1: not giving this dream up. Drew pat sing that was cool.
- 43:40Speaker 1: You know. I don't know if the Arizona Cardinals are
- 43:42Speaker 1: the top of the conversation right now, but I thought
- 43:45Speaker 1: what they did on Sunday was awesome, beating the Falcons
- 43:47Speaker 1: and seeing Kyler back. So I thought that was really cool,
- 43:49Speaker 1: and thank you for Drew for doing it and for
- 43:51Speaker 1: the Cardinals organization. Real quick way off topic, and you
- 43:55Speaker 1: could turn it off if you don't like the off
- 43:57Speaker 1: topic stuff. I won't be insulted. Travis Kelsey was in
- 44:01Speaker 1: Argentina this weekend. He was in Germany. The weekend before that.
- 44:05Speaker 1: He is on his by Max out with Taylor Swift
- 44:09Speaker 1: on Camroach was romantic and hot and steamy. She'd changed
- 44:15Speaker 1: the lyrics songs Karma to talk about the Kans City
- 44:19Speaker 1: Chiefs tight end. We're recording this on Tuesday. He's back
- 44:22Speaker 1: in Kansas City, he's back at practice, and we just
- 44:26Speaker 1: posed the question to Scott Pioli, the ex Kansas City
- 44:30Speaker 1: Chiefs GM, what his thoughts were about a player going
- 44:34Speaker 1: to Argentina, you know, and he answered it like I
- 44:36Speaker 1: wouldn't think twice about it. It's Kelsey's thirty four. Like
- 44:39Speaker 1: Scott's answer was right, He's earned it. Like whatever. The
- 44:43Speaker 1: fact that we asked it on Good Morning Football, We're
- 44:47Speaker 1: getting hundreds of tweets from Chiefs fans like super triggered,
- 44:51Speaker 1: like how dare you question it? Like it's his off week?
- 44:54Speaker 1: Is that I think it's this story has been kind
- 44:57Speaker 1: of a rollercoaster, and now it's like Chiefs fans are
- 45:00Speaker 1: super defensive about it, even questioning it, and I think
- 45:03Speaker 1: people are looking at Kelsey and I know Bill Simmons's
- 45:05Speaker 1: questioning like all right, even I on Monday's show was like,
- 45:10Speaker 1: all right, say it. I went to Mexico for my
- 45:12Speaker 1: tie is one thing. Gosh, she was at Mahomes's charity
- 45:15Speaker 1: event on Thursdays in Argentina's week, like it is something
- 45:19Speaker 1: to track. I have no opinion on it. I love Travis,
- 45:21Speaker 1: as I've mentioned multiple times here. We have a great
- 45:23Speaker 1: relationship and he's truly in love right now and it's
- 45:26Speaker 1: cool and it hasn't stopped them. They're the first place team.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I'm wondering when this thing turns and I see the
- 45:33Speaker 1: chief schedule gets complicated coming up, Aaron your thoughts and
- 45:37Speaker 1: he might attract the venom of the Taylor Swift hive,
- 45:42Speaker 1: So I would be careful with what you say because
- 45:43Speaker 1: it's not just a Taylor Swift.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Time right, it's the Chief.
- 45:46Speaker 1: It's more vocal, like f off, don't even question this love.
- 45:50Speaker 2: And to just to be clear too, you're saying he's
- 45:53Speaker 2: in Germany the week before, he's in Germany for the game.
- 45:55Speaker 2: He wasn't traveling. It's not like he was there to
- 45:58Speaker 2: see her concert and then went to Argentina. So he
- 46:00Speaker 2: was there for the game and then they have the
- 46:01Speaker 2: bye week again. Travis Kelsey is thirty four. He is
- 46:06Speaker 2: not first year quarterback whose team is struggling. I actually
- 46:10Speaker 2: have no problem with him going to Argentina to watch
- 46:12Speaker 2: the concert. I thought the video of him standing there,
- 46:15Speaker 2: I think it's with her dad when when when the
- 46:18Speaker 2: lyric is changed and it's like it doesn't register for
- 46:21Speaker 2: him right away and his dad, Oh my, I can't
- 46:23Speaker 2: believe I'm sitting here talking about it.
- 46:25Speaker 3: It was a.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Concert and his dad is like so excited for him.
- 46:29Speaker 2: I'm like grabbing Travis. So I love that.
- 46:32Speaker 6: That was nice.
- 46:33Speaker 2: And you know, we we hear all these stories about like, oh,
- 46:38Speaker 2: Taylor was at the Chiefs game and she had to
- 46:40Speaker 2: get snuck out in the popcorn movie. Instead, this was
- 46:45Speaker 2: her running off stage. He's standing right there and she
- 46:47Speaker 2: embraces him. You know what, call me a sucker. And
- 46:50Speaker 2: this is like the one Harry met Sally moment. But
- 46:53Speaker 2: I'm all for it. Great, good for him. I think
- 46:55Speaker 2: it's great.
- 46:56Speaker 1: It was beautiful. I'm not kidding, like I loved it.
- 46:59Speaker 1: I thought it was beautiful and sweet and everything was
- 47:03Speaker 1: great about it. I hope they don't lose three straight
- 47:06Speaker 1: and Kel's he starts like dropping past this man. It's
- 47:10Speaker 1: going well for now, dude, I love it. One more thing.
- 47:14Speaker 1: I got a call early this morning from my friend Chris,
- 47:18Speaker 1: who listens to the podcast and says he does a
- 47:23Speaker 1: four mile walk every morning, from like five to seven
- 47:27Speaker 1: walks around Manhattan. I think he's like in Central Park
- 47:29Speaker 1: and he gets where he clears his head. And Aaron,
- 47:32Speaker 1: he was ecstatic to share with me how much he enjoys,
- 47:36Speaker 1: not me, not the music that we do, not the topics,
- 47:39Speaker 1: not the guests. He's like, I love your co host.
- 47:44Speaker 1: He's like, he's great. He's got a great demeanor, he's
- 47:46Speaker 1: got a great approach.
- 47:48Speaker 2: I'm like, use his words like dowur Yeah.
- 47:50Speaker 1: I'm like, hell yeah, Aaron's the man. And he's like
- 47:53Speaker 1: from like the the non Shrigger part of Brooklyn, where
- 47:56Speaker 1: I don't even know where you live. And I love
- 47:58Speaker 1: that about you. You come in with a completely different viewpoint,
- 48:01Speaker 1: a completely different style. You're of a different generation, and gosh,
- 48:05Speaker 1: you and I were making right here.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Dude, may Well. I appreciate it, and thank you to
- 48:09Speaker 2: him too, And I mean, I uh that that just
- 48:12Speaker 2: makes me jealous that I didn't go for a nice
- 48:14Speaker 2: long walk this morning.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Doesn't It sounds great?
- 48:16Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, let's get to our ads sponsor, our
- 48:20Speaker 1: dear friends over at uber eats. What we do every
- 48:25Speaker 1: week we read the sponsor and I fill in my
- 48:27Speaker 1: answer and what it is. Basically an award if you're
- 48:30Speaker 1: a first time listener and you're from the Arizona Cardinals
- 48:32Speaker 1: bee hive or whatever they call it there. I don't
- 48:34Speaker 1: even know.
- 48:34Speaker 2: There's not the Cardinals Cardinal Hive.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Carlal nest I was like in their stateium, it's like
- 48:40Speaker 1: see red, like they just like to do lots of
- 48:42Speaker 1: red puns. It's time for delivering results presented by Uber Eats.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Today's delivering results winner you like this one? Here is
- 48:53Speaker 1: Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson looking like the Russell Wilson of
- 48:57Speaker 1: old and prime.
- 48:58Speaker 5: Time, spinning around doing shovel passes, throwing the touchdown pass
- 49:02Speaker 5: to Courtland Sutton and then finding his way up the
- 49:06Speaker 5: field to get the Broncos into field goal range, which
- 49:08Speaker 5: originally they missed but there was a flag and then
- 49:12Speaker 5: Will Lutz did knock it through.
- 49:15Speaker 1: The Denver Broncos have won three straight games. Russell Wilson,
- 49:19Speaker 1: who was being talked about, is being on the hot
- 49:21Speaker 1: seat and that Jared Stidham was going to come in
- 49:23Speaker 1: when they were one in five, is firmly entrenched as
- 49:26Speaker 1: their quarterback. He's playing well. And last night, just even
- 49:29Speaker 1: for it was one night in primetime, it was cool
- 49:31Speaker 1: to see Russell Wilson play like Russell Wilson. And that,
- 49:34Speaker 1: my friends, was delivering results presented by Uber Eats, where
- 49:38Speaker 1: you can get almost almost anything. They are the official
- 49:43Speaker 1: on demand delivery partner of the NFL. Order Now and
- 49:47Speaker 1: that's the podcast. We start off with some celebration over
- 49:51Speaker 1: the Texans and the Broncos, a little news with Ken
- 49:54Speaker 1: Dorsey getting fired, Little ravens lamenting, and then we walk
- 49:57Speaker 1: that path and we hear from Drew Petsing, who got
- 50:00Speaker 1: the most out of Kyler Murray that we've seen in
- 50:02Speaker 1: twelve months because Kyler's been recovering from that ACL. I've
- 50:05Speaker 1: been asked by a lot of this listeners over Twitter
- 50:07Speaker 1: and over email whether we are going to be at
- 50:10Speaker 1: the super Bowl. We do not know yet. We don't
- 50:12Speaker 1: have a word on that. We hope to be. If not,
- 50:16Speaker 1: we will still do shows throughout the playoffs. Let's just
- 50:19Speaker 1: say here the season with Peter Scheger with a shirtless
- 50:23Speaker 1: Aaron Wang Kaufman running around the Vegas Strip, then going
- 50:29Speaker 1: and performing karaoke, singing some song none of us have
- 50:31Speaker 1: heard from a show tune from like Oklahoma is gonna
- 50:34Speaker 1: be epic if we can get there.
- 50:36Speaker 2: And then doing only Taylor Swift songs, replacing lyrics with
- 50:39Speaker 2: Travis Kelce.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Exactly right, that's what, yeah, exactly right. And then you
- 50:43Speaker 1: and I will go to like a club. We'll go
- 50:44Speaker 1: to like Delilah, and it'll be like the hot Spot,
- 50:47Speaker 1: and I'm gonna get paparazzi to take photos of us
- 50:50Speaker 1: walking amidst all the NFL celebrities and elites, and maybe
- 50:54Speaker 1: Scott Swift will like wear a Chief slanyard and like
- 50:57Speaker 1: kind of put his arm around the two of us.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Scott Swift content when we're talking about Taylor Swift's dad,
- 51:02Speaker 1: you know I'm here for it. On behalf of Aaron On,
- 51:05Speaker 1: behalf of Jason English, the man from iHeart who is awesome,
- 51:09Speaker 1: and on behalf of all the different folks who work
- 51:11Speaker 1: on this show. Thank you for listening.
- 51:13Speaker 4: We'll be back next week with another one.
- 51:32Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 51:35Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. For more podcasts from iHeartRadio,
