- 4:19Tonight's topic it's gonna be basically my heart says it all mom life and
- 4:28you know this week coming up it is the week of Mother's Day. This
- 4:32is Mother's Day weekend. And you know, as we think many of us
- 4:38that are mothers, or we are mother figures, or we may be aunties
- 4:43that play the role of the mother or godmother's. You know, sometimes you
- 4:48just have to stop and wonder, like what time I used to do this?
- 4:56And it may sound a little strange, but if you're a parent,
- 4:59you sometimes you're like, did I really create this child? Like this human
- 5:08being really is a replica of me? Of they have my manerysms, they
- 5:15have my thought, some of them have my It's just so much and I
- 5:18go back to I always say Mother's Day Weekend will always be a vital and
- 5:26an important and a pivotal change in my life because I never forget when I
- 5:32was pregnant with my first son. Because if you don't know, I have
- 5:35two boys. They are twenty one and eighteen, and I will never forget
- 5:43when I was pregnant with my first son. That Mother's Day weekend is when
- 5:47I just finally decided to tell everybody, even though they could already see it.
- 5:53But you know, you come out and you say, you know,
- 5:57I'm pregnant, I'm having my first child, and I will never forget two
- 6:03ladies that were very special to me and I always call them like part of
- 6:09my angel crew. I will never forget. They said to me, you
- 6:14got this because you were raised by strong women. You have that mother instinct
- 6:21in you. You helped raise so many children. And at the time when
- 6:26I first had my first son, I was twenty I turned twenty one that
- 6:30December, and this was back in two thousand and two, and I would
- 6:34never forget. I was just like I knew I was ready for it.
- 6:40It was just one of those things where I was like, you know what,
- 6:45I did the deed. I was grown enough to do the deed and
- 6:48enjoyed it. But I'm just saying I did the deed. So in my
- 6:54mindset was I can handle this, regardless of as to whatever challenges may come.
- 7:00I'm ready for it. And I'll never ever ever forget that Mother's Day
- 7:06weekend. It was like the pivotal point in me accepting that, oh wow,
- 7:15I'm really going to be a mom and my life is really changing and
- 7:20I'm going to be responsible for another human being. And it always just shocked
- 7:28me. And then I remember, I remember just how I thought back to
- 7:34my grandmother's and my mom and my aunt and my godmothers and all the different
- 7:40women that have played such a pivotal part in my life and my upbringing.
- 7:46And it was just like, you know what, I have so much of
- 7:48them inside of me that I can do this. I got this. And
- 7:54you know, sometimes if you come from that background or generational how you said,
- 8:01lineage where you're able to talk about the experiences of being a mother in
- 8:11motherhood, you sit back and you recollect on those conversations. And I always
- 8:16remember, like I would see at the time. I used to watch like
- 8:22my cousins with their children and their children were young, and I used to
- 8:26be the one the babysit, and I remember just watching them and then talking
- 8:31to my grandmother and hearing her experience when she had my dad, or even
- 8:37just like my own experience with my mother and I And trust me, sometimes
- 8:41you'll wonder who's the parent and who's the child when it comes to me my
- 8:46mother. But it was just you know, you sit and you recollect and
- 8:52you look and you understand like, wow, if these women can do it,
- 8:56I can do it. And don't get me you're wrong. Sometimes there's
- 9:01just days where you just feel like you're losing your not your mind. But
- 9:07it's all a part of the process of accepting and becoming a mom. You
- 9:13know, sometimes I meet new moms and they're like, well, you don't
- 9:18look like you have grown kids, And I say to them, I say,
- 9:20listen, I said, I have grown kids. But trust me,
- 9:24I've been through some things with my kids. And as a mother, we
- 9:30hold the world in the palm of our hands. You know, civilization began
- 9:35with us. We birth civilization. So when you sit back and you start
- 9:43to ponder on that and you think about the generations that are going to come
- 9:50that have your lineage inside of them, it's like, oh, wow,
- 9:56do I want to leave a legacy that is going to speak to who I
- 10:03am and to who they are? And you know, you just sometimes that
- 10:09makes you wonder like, am I doing it right? Do I have this
- 10:15aught together? And in the days where you're just like, listen, I
- 10:18don't. It is what it is. I'm just gonna go ahead and do
- 10:20it it to me, that's when the most impactful situations happen. And that's
- 10:26when you you know, how we say you put on your big girl draws
- 10:31or your big girl panties and you just say, listen, this is what
- 10:35it is. This is who I am. I am these humans or these
- 10:39these individuals. I am their mother, and I am going to fight for
- 10:43them. You know, I've had situations with my kids where I have had
- 10:48to turn into the lioness Queen Bee. And you know, when I think
- 10:58back on those situations, I'm like, but if I wasn't their mom,
- 11:03what they have somebody to fight for them in the way that I fought for
- 11:07them. What they have somebody to be their advocate. And you know,
- 11:15being an advocate for your children, it's the most rewarding thing possible. I
- 11:22love when I can advocate for my kids. You know, sometimes they get
- 11:26me mad when I have to advocate, because then you have to hear they
- 11:30didn't do something, or you hear the truth. You know, some parents
- 11:33don't want to hear the truth about their kids. But you have to be
- 11:37open enough to know that your children are not perfect, just like we're not
- 11:39perfect as parents. But to be that parental advocate for them in that time
- 11:46of need and in that time of knowing that they need you to be there,
- 11:50that is the most fulfilling thing that I think when you sit back and
- 11:58you recollect that, it helps you to see that, you know what,
- 12:03I may not have always got it right, but I did the best that
- 12:09I can in the situations that I had to deal with. You know,
- 12:15for me, my kids have seen me going through health challenges, We've gone
- 12:20through other challenges in our lives, and they've always say, I get that
- 12:30resilience from you. I get that no nonsense, don't take anything from anybody
- 12:37from you. And you know, I can't discredit their dads, you know,
- 12:45for what they've impacted in their life. But when you are the focal
- 12:48parent, you are the one that they see every day. You are the
- 12:52one that the school goals, the one that has to rown with them to
- 12:56the doctor, the one that has to be the bank and be the coach
- 13:01and run to this, run to that, run to the third It's like
- 13:07you get to understand why they have that respect for you. And then there's
- 13:11days where you just don't want to. You and them are just on two
- 13:16different wavelengths. They're not hearing you and you're not hearing them. And there's
- 13:22always that one child though, that takes on the personality of the parent.
- 13:30For me, it is my second son, he has my temperament down to
- 13:37a science. He's the no nonsense one. And both of my kids are
- 13:43no nonsense. But my youngest son, that one right there, Corey,
- 13:48that is the one that I would say if I had to tell anybody between
- 13:52my two sons, I know that I need to stay on my knees for
- 13:56and pray every day for. That's the That's the right there, because if
- 14:01I tell you he has my temperament, he has that no nonsense. You're
- 14:05not gonna tell me I can't. No, there's not no. It's not
- 14:09in his vocabulary. Let's just put it like that, the word no,
- 14:13the word you can't tell me. It's just not in his vocabulary. He's
- 14:18not hearing it. He he ain't buying it. It is what it is.
- 14:24Christian. On the other hand, I will call my gentle giant.
- 14:28He is the one that he'll come. If you call him, he'll do.
- 14:33He may not want to do it right then and dare, but if
- 14:35you call him and say, Chris, I need you to do this,
- 14:37he'll come and he'll be like, all right, fine, you know it's
- 14:41it's I say to people, I am glad that I have this opportunity to
- 14:48be their mom. I'm glad that the things that I have experienced has made
- 14:54me be the mother that I am in the time that I've had to be
- 15:00their mom. You know, there's been days where I just don't want to
- 15:05be I'd be like, listen, y'all, leave me alone. But then
- 15:09there's those days where I just want that beer hug or that Christian come give
- 15:15me a hug, or Corey, come give me a hug. And it
- 15:16makes the difference. It makes my day better, It makes whatever I'm going
- 15:22through, It makes me feel better in that moment. And then I just
- 15:28sit back and I say God, thank you for letting me be the vessel
- 15:31to birth them. You know, sometimes we don't always get it. We
- 15:37don't always get it right, we don't always understand why we were chosen in
- 15:43that time, because, like I tell people, when I first got pregnant
- 15:48with my son, my plans for my life were totally different. Children were
- 15:54nowhere in the cards for me. I wanted to live my best I wanted
- 16:00at the time I was in college, I was working. I was doing
- 16:04like my little side of hustles as a nail tech cosmetology. I would work
- 16:11at school. I wanted to become a teacher. I had all these great
- 16:15plans and then I'm like, Okay, I can't do everything that I wanted
- 16:22to do. I have to put certain things on the back burner now because
- 16:26I have to be a mom. And you know, a lot of people
- 16:30may get discouraged by that, and at first I think I did. I
- 16:36think I got a little bit discouraged. But then I realized that, you
- 16:40know what, in order for me to be my best me, I can
- 16:45be me and be their mom and still create the life that I wanted to
- 16:49create for them and for myself. Of course, yes, things may have
- 16:55had to get tweaked here and there. I've started school stops, guard it
- 17:00stop, you know, But again, as a parent, as a mother,
- 17:04I had to make sure that they were okay first before putting myself first.
- 17:11You have to your needs sometimes comes in the back burner and your children
- 17:15come to the forefront. You know. When I had my second son,
- 17:23I definitely didn't plan to have any more children. And it always happens like
- 17:27that. Has that happened to anybody else, like when you have your kids.
- 17:32It's just it was in the time and a space where you just did
- 17:34not plan. It was nothing that you wanted to do. It was not
- 17:40in the cards, it was not in the plans, it was not even
- 17:42a thought. But you know, we do what we do, and we
- 17:51have to just deal with what life deals for us. You know, I
- 17:59think back even when my mother. I'm my mother's only child, and it's
- 18:04funny because I see how being her only child, but I have two sisters
- 18:11from my father. I see how being her only child, how it molded
- 18:18me. And then now being a mom of two, how it's so different.
- 18:22You know, when you have to deal with one child versus two children,
- 18:29you know, it's so different because you're dealing with two different personalities,
- 18:33two different mindsets, two different ways of life technically, you know, and
- 18:41sometimes you want your children to be the same, but you have to remember
- 18:45everybody is different. They can't be the same. You're different. You are
- 18:49different from how I am different. I parent, different from how my mother
- 18:52parent, and my mother parent, different than how her mother parents or my
- 18:56father's mother parent, you know, And but you have to be able to
- 19:03use all of those things as tools to help you in your journey as a
- 19:10mom. We're gonna take a quick break and then we're gonna come right back
- 19:14and wrap up. So we'll be right back. Let's chat with that.
- 19:23Hey hongya and welcome you another episode of the prow podcast. Heyyya, and
- 19:30welcome you another episode of the prowodcast. I am your visionary Queen Angela.
- 19:36And if you are a diva that's looking to amplify your voice and you're looking
- 19:41for our home, we have faith for you. Come on over and join
- 19:47them. Diva up, yeah, and amplify your voice. I didn't even
- 19:55realize I was on mute. So we are back. So as I was
- 20:00talking and we were talking about mom life and what being a mom means,
- 20:07and as we are getting ready to go into Mother's Day weekend, I just
- 20:11want you to think back about when you first became a mom and how did
- 20:15you feel and what was your fears? Were you nervous, were you scared?
- 20:22You know, was your situation a situation where you had a support system
- 20:27or even if you didn't have a support system, what was your mindset at
- 20:30the time. Was it I don't know what to do, or was it
- 20:36I'm here, I'm going to deal with it, and I'm going to make
- 20:38this be the best situation that it can. And you know, when you
- 20:45think about that, and when you think about women that are moms or want
- 20:48to be moms, or or happen to be mother figures, because some women
- 20:52are not able to become mothers in the physical sense, but they're able to
- 20:57be mothers in a spiritual and an emotional sense of the word. Those times,
- 21:06some of those situations are the most again impactful situations for people or for
- 21:12someone that needs a mom and don't have a mom or never had that real
- 21:18mother figure in their life. You know, sometimes I have godmothers, I
- 21:22have women that I am very close to that I can go to sometimes with
- 21:26things that I don't go to my own mother with and having those bonds,
- 21:30having those relationships. I'm a godmother, I'm an aunt and sometimes my godchildren
- 21:37or the children that call me Auntie, they will come to me and they're
- 21:42express their thoughts and their opinions that maybe sometimes they can't go to their mothers
- 21:47with or that they feel that their mothers may not understand. And I tell
- 21:51them, listen, your parent was once young. Your parent is human.
- 21:56So what you think that a your parent may not have go going through that,
- 22:00you're going through. They understand it. It may not be what they
- 22:03want for you at the time, but trust me, as a mother,
- 22:07we understand. As a mother figure, we understand. Don't let it get
- 22:14you to the point where you feel that you don't have anybody in your corner
- 22:18to understand. Trust me, you do that. Sometimes we need that nurturing
- 22:25to get us to be who we are. We need those those maternal instincts
- 22:32to kick in and help us get us to the next level in life that
- 22:37we need to be at. You know, being a mother is not easy.
- 22:41Being a mom is not easy by no means. It is one of
- 22:47the most taskful and difficult jobs there is, but it is also the most
- 22:52rewarding. It is the most precious gift because when you look at your child
- 22:59after they have entered the world and then you see them grow into who they
- 23:03are, that's where you know, you know, what I did this,
- 23:08and I'm proud of what I did. I'm proud of who I raise,
- 23:14and I'm proud of who I am and who I had to become in order
- 23:18to take on this responsibility. God saw fit to choose me as the vessel
- 23:25or God saw fit to choose me as the person to be that figure in
- 23:29this person's life. So no matter how hard it gets, don't give up
- 23:33on it, don't give up on your kids. Press through. Listen.
- 23:40The mom life is not easy, but it is very rewarding. So on
- 23:45that note, I'm gonna say good night, have a happy Mother's Day next
- 23:49week. Whatever you do, enjoy it and think back on what it means
- 23:59to be a mine there, think back on what it means to have a
- 24:02mom, And if you don't have a mom, think back on the times
- 24:04that you've shared with your mother and how that impacted you. And hold on
- 24:10to those memories because they're there. Sometimes those memories are what you need to
- 24:15carry you through some of the difficulties days in your life. So on that
- 24:19note, I'm going to sign out. This is last shop with that,
- 24:23and we'll see you soon. Good night, Oh person, all things ain't
- 24:33one thing used to be? Where did all the Blue Sky's Boys from the
- 24:45Lord from something? Well, person,
