- 0:05Speaker 1: That's it The Inside Scoop with FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal. Ken,
- 0:09Speaker 1: we had you on to talk about the Orioles and
- 0:11Speaker 1: Angels trade, and I know you address that as well
- 0:13Speaker 1: on fair Territory. Layer two that we didn't get to
- 0:16Speaker 1: until right now is how you think the rest of
- 0:19Speaker 1: the offseason is going to shape out for Baltimore. Can
- 0:22Speaker 1: you give us more context on what that might look
- 0:24Speaker 1: like and do you really believe that they are going
- 0:28Speaker 1: to be serious players for Kyle Tucker.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Okay, what I think they're going to do most heavily
- 0:35Speaker 2: is focus on starting pitching and bullpen. They need to
- 0:38Speaker 2: rebuild almost their entire bullpen. Remember they traded almost their
- 0:42Speaker 2: entire bullpen at the deadline or before it. And they
- 0:45Speaker 2: know if Bautista is not going to be healthy until
- 0:48Speaker 2: later in the season, if then, they've already traded for
- 0:52Speaker 2: Kittridge and exercised his options. So that's one piece, but
- 0:55Speaker 2: they need others starting rotation, no secret either what they
- 0:59Speaker 2: need there. They have Bratish and Trevor Rodgers at the top.
- 1:02Speaker 2: That's good, but they want one more guy to fit
- 1:06Speaker 2: into that upper half or upper three fifths of the rotation.
- 1:10Speaker 2: A third starter to go with those guys and maybe
- 1:14Speaker 2: one more, although they do have some depth now the
- 1:17Speaker 2: Tucker thing. I reported yesterday that they have not ruled
- 1:21Speaker 2: out Kyle Tucker. Even with the acquisition of Taylor Ward
- 1:26Speaker 2: in the Rodriguez trade. Their outfield right now is pretty
- 1:30Speaker 2: set in the corners, especially, they maybe will try to
- 1:33Speaker 2: upgrade and center. Tucker, though, is an exception. And Tucker
- 1:37Speaker 2: also is a guy that michae Elias drafted with the
- 1:40Speaker 2: Houston Astros that great twenty fifteen draft where the Astros
- 1:44Speaker 2: got Bregman second and Tucker fifth amazing. So executives often
- 1:49Speaker 2: have an attachment to players they draft or develop, and
- 1:53Speaker 2: that's probably what is driving this to a certain extent.
- 1:57Speaker 2: We will see in the end if the Orioles are
- 2:00Speaker 2: are the team that can get a starting pitcher, a
- 2:03Speaker 2: big one, it's Fromberveldez type and a guy like Tucker.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Based on their past history, you intend to doubt it.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Based on the market forces, you intend to doubt it.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Other teams are going to be in on Kyle Tucker
- 2:15Speaker 2: fromberveld as all the other starters. But again, what I
- 2:19Speaker 2: reported Scott was that they've not ruled themselves out of anything,
- 2:23Speaker 2: at least at this point.
- 2:25Speaker 3: All right, Ken, I have to tell you this Oriole
- 2:27Speaker 3: fan base has been just eviscerating me. And I know
- 2:30Speaker 3: they love you because you were there. No, they don't
- 2:33Speaker 3: love me, they love you. You were there. You were
- 2:35Speaker 3: one of their guys. So I've never seen anything bad
- 2:39Speaker 3: said about you, Ken, So don't worry about it. But
- 2:44Speaker 3: I got eviscerrated for what we were saying about Brayson Rodriguez.
- 2:46Speaker 3: And it's really been like a lot of like more
- 2:50Speaker 3: the decision making of the organization that do fans should
- 2:56Speaker 3: fans think that what they've done, what Michaelias has done
- 2:59Speaker 3: so far with this tank and now the supposed rebuild
- 3:05Speaker 3: has been successful.
- 3:08Speaker 2: It was successful in the sense that they made the
- 3:10Speaker 2: playoffs back to back seasons in twenty three and twenty four.
- 3:13Speaker 2: It has not been successful in taking that next step
- 3:17Speaker 2: to being a World Series type contender, and they took
- 3:20Speaker 2: a significant step backwards last season. And the criticism of
- 3:25Speaker 2: Elias has been that as great a job as he
- 3:29Speaker 2: did building up their system and bringing prospects to the majors,
- 3:32Speaker 2: he has not been able to finish it. Finish off
- 3:35Speaker 2: with the top of the roster. And we saw that
- 3:39Speaker 2: last year, with the offseason that they had, when they
- 3:41Speaker 2: only brought in Morton in Chicano, when they had just
- 3:45Speaker 2: lost Corbin Burns, it wasn't enough. The rotation fell apart
- 3:49Speaker 2: early on and until Rogers got going, until Bradish came back,
- 3:53Speaker 2: it was a complete mess. So it is fair, certainly
- 3:57Speaker 2: to look at michae Elias and say, okay, this is it.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Now you have a team that should be better. We
- 4:03Speaker 2: have a division in which the Toronto Blue Jays came
- 4:05Speaker 2: off last place finished last year and went right to
- 4:09Speaker 2: the top. So this is a huge off season for
- 4:12Speaker 2: Elias and there's not much question about that. The Rodrigaz
- 4:16Speaker 2: trade a couple of things. I mentioned it on my
- 4:18Speaker 2: show and maybe on foul Territory a couple of days ago. One.
- 4:22Speaker 2: To me, this is a calear vote of no confidence
- 4:25Speaker 2: in Grayson Rodriguez. They do not believe he is going
- 4:29Speaker 2: to be healthy enough, not just in twenty six, but
- 4:32Speaker 2: in the three years beyond to continue investing in in
- 4:37Speaker 2: terms of their franchise, thinking that he is going to
- 4:40Speaker 2: be the guy. The other part of this was Taylor
- 4:42Speaker 2: Ward is a right handed bat, a right handed hitting
- 4:45Speaker 2: outfielder in a market that is starved for right handed
- 4:48Speaker 2: hitting outfielders, so he was kind of a rare commodity.
- 4:51Speaker 2: It took a high price to get him. Now, whether
- 4:55Speaker 2: this works or not, we don't know right now. It's
- 4:58Speaker 2: certainly fair to assume that Grayson rodad Riguez in twenty
- 5:01Speaker 2: twenty six will be on innings limits. The Angels have
- 5:04Speaker 2: already said that. We know that he isn't pitched in
- 5:06Speaker 2: a year and a half. Beyond that is the question.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And he seems confident. We're going to have him on
- 5:11Speaker 2: the show later today. He seems confident that he's going
- 5:13Speaker 2: to be able to throw a lot of innings. But again,
- 5:16Speaker 2: what the Orioles did in making this trade was show
- 5:19Speaker 2: their lack of confidence that he will be able to
- 5:22Speaker 2: do that.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Let's go a little north to the New York Yankees.
- 5:25Speaker 4: I love Yankee talk. Let's start with Cody Bellinger. I mean,
- 5:29Speaker 4: the guy had a pretty good year of excuse me,
- 5:31Speaker 4: he had a good year in my opinion, he did
- 5:32Speaker 4: really well. And he talks to him coming back to
- 5:36Speaker 4: New York right.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Now, a lot of talk. Todd. Now, it's one thing
- 5:41Speaker 2: to talk, it's another thing to get it done. And
- 5:44Speaker 2: Bellinger and Bregman and some of these other free agents
- 5:47Speaker 2: who are represented by Scott Boris. Generally speaking, Boris free
- 5:51Speaker 2: agents do not sign quickly. Now, he's made exceptions a
- 5:54Speaker 2: few times where he's had a lot of guys and
- 5:57Speaker 2: he kind of went in a sequential or where he
- 6:00Speaker 2: had some of them signed the Winter Meetings, some of
- 6:02Speaker 2: them after that. The best example of that was the
- 6:05Speaker 2: year Cole, Rendon and Strasbourg were free agents. They all
- 6:08Speaker 2: signed at the Winter Meetings. So we saw Sodo last
- 6:12Speaker 2: year signed fairly early was that the meetings. So it's
- 6:15Speaker 2: possible one of these guys or multiple guys get done
- 6:19Speaker 2: in that timeframe. The Yankees obviously want Bellinger back. They've
- 6:23Speaker 2: been very public about that, and I would expect that
- 6:26Speaker 2: they are leading contender for him. But Todd, you know
- 6:29Speaker 2: how free agency works. It's impossible to predict who is
- 6:33Speaker 2: going to go where because you don't know where the
- 6:35Speaker 2: money is, where the money's coming from, and which teams
- 6:38Speaker 2: have the most interest.
- 6:41Speaker 4: We'll go to another guy, Devin Williams. We've talked about
- 6:44Speaker 4: him before a lot of Yankee fans on edge a
- 6:47Speaker 4: little bit of how he did, and you know, he
- 6:49Speaker 4: struggled a little bit I felt like he could have
- 6:51Speaker 4: had a better year. Is there a Yankee talk with
- 6:54Speaker 4: him coming back? Maybe a little reunion or something sort.
- 6:57Speaker 2: There has been, And I reported this with Willson and
- 7:00Speaker 2: yesterday in The Athletic Todd that he is a guy
- 7:03Speaker 2: that they have at least talked to. They never considered
- 7:06Speaker 2: his year as bad as it looked at times. Obviously
- 7:09Speaker 2: he had certain blow up games, certain struggles, but overall
- 7:14Speaker 2: still a big swing and miss guy. Still did a
- 7:16Speaker 2: lot of good things. And in a bullpen market that
- 7:19Speaker 2: is pretty deep in closer types, he is going to
- 7:22Speaker 2: be one of the more attractive ones. So yes, the Yankees,
- 7:25Speaker 2: I've had contact with him, but still have a number
- 7:27Speaker 2: of other teams, Mets, number of other teams. So I
- 7:31Speaker 2: would expect him to be a guy who does fairly
- 7:34Speaker 2: well in free agency. He won't be at Edwin Diaz's level, perhaps,
- 7:38Speaker 2: but he still should command a decent multi year deal.
- 7:42Speaker 3: All right, what other the Met's going to do? We
- 7:44Speaker 3: go across town? How are the Mets going to You
- 7:48Speaker 3: wrote that they're going to attack their rotation. They're going
- 7:52Speaker 3: to talk about retooling their bullpen, just like every team.
- 7:56Speaker 3: How are they going to do? It differently than the
- 7:58Speaker 3: Mets and David Stern has ever done it is an
- 8:01Speaker 3: entire career as a general manager.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Well, the one thing David Stearns has not done as
- 8:06Speaker 2: ahead of baseball operations is spend heavily in free agency
- 8:10Speaker 2: on starting pitching. And it worked for him a couple
- 8:14Speaker 2: of years ago when they got Mania and Severino on
- 8:17Speaker 2: the one year deals and both were really good. It
- 8:19Speaker 2: did not work last year when Mania was hurt. Frankie
- 8:23Speaker 2: Montas now dfaid, this is a strategy that, like long
- 8:28Speaker 2: term investments in starting pitching can be risky. So what
- 8:31Speaker 2: do you do now? I would expect that they're going
- 8:34Speaker 2: to be active in trade talks for a starting pitcher,
- 8:37Speaker 2: for those starters who might be available, and there is
- 8:41Speaker 2: not a clear picture yet on which ones are actually
- 8:43Speaker 2: going to move. The teams that have Trek Scoobel and
- 8:47Speaker 2: Freddie Peralta and Joe Ryan even have said we're not
- 8:51Speaker 2: all that interested in doing that. Some teams think they're posturing.
- 8:55Speaker 2: We'll have to see as time goes by, so the
- 8:58Speaker 2: Mets can do that. They also, though I would expect,
- 9:00Speaker 2: are going to sign a big starter this offseason, and
- 9:03Speaker 2: David Stearns is going to go out of his comfort
- 9:06Speaker 2: zone to do that or out of what he has
- 9:08Speaker 2: done in the past. They're going to be an interesting
- 9:10Speaker 2: team to watch because obviously they have a ton of
- 9:13Speaker 2: money invested in this team. They've got a huge free
- 9:16Speaker 2: agent in Diaz, a huge free agent in Pete Alonso.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And while both those guys are important, or at least
- 9:22Speaker 2: what they do is important, if someone else can do
- 9:24Speaker 2: it great. Starting pitching is why they collapsed last year.
- 9:28Speaker 2: That was the downfall of the Mets. They've got to
- 9:31Speaker 2: address it.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Is there any indication that Steve Cohen is maybe fearful
- 9:37Speaker 3: on both ends? He said, I trust David Stearns because
- 9:40Speaker 3: he came in after we got Surezer and Verlander. Well,
- 9:43Speaker 3: Sharzer and Verlander didn't work out. David Sterns up until
- 9:47Speaker 3: May of last year, looked like, oh, Stevie Cohen's gonna
- 9:50Speaker 3: trust and believe in these rentals besides Mantas. But is
- 9:55Speaker 3: there fe I guess you would never say Steve Cohen
- 9:58Speaker 3: is fearful, But is there any indication that he is
- 10:01Speaker 3: more on the stern side or is this like, hey,
- 10:04Speaker 3: it didn't work last year. We are definitely what you
- 10:06Speaker 3: said going for somebody big.
- 10:08Speaker 2: It's a good question, Eric, and I don't know the answer.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And I would say that Steve Cohen most likely remains
- 10:16Speaker 2: quite confident in David Sterns. He hired him, and you're right.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Up until June of last year, they were rolling, They
- 10:22Speaker 2: looked great, they had come. They had a great season
- 10:25Speaker 2: in twenty four where they got to the NLCS. But
- 10:28Speaker 2: when a team they were beaten out by the Cincinnati Reds,
- 10:37Speaker 2: there is going to be I would expect some doubt
- 10:40Speaker 2: in the mind of Steve Cohen, not just about David Sterns,
- 10:43Speaker 2: but about Carlos Mendoza. So while I would not suggest
- 10:47Speaker 2: that either is in trouble, the Mets did change a
- 10:49Speaker 2: ton of coaches, which indicates their level of frustration. That's
- 10:53Speaker 2: the first step, and then we'll see what happens this year.
- 10:56Speaker 2: So I would say Cohen is still confident in Stern's
- 10:59Speaker 2: and I would expect Mendoza as well. But again, some
- 11:03Speaker 2: of that got punctured last year. I would imagine, simply
- 11:06Speaker 2: by what happened, it's inevitable that people would think that way. Ken.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Let me get a fan question or two in here.
- 11:13Speaker 1: So MJ Sports Cards ask can we ask Ken about
- 11:16Speaker 1: potential trades for kateel Marte. Do you think that's a
- 11:20Speaker 1: real name that's going to surface this offseason? And I
- 11:23Speaker 1: know that there is a factor in play with his
- 11:25Speaker 1: ten five rights coming up this season, so it's now
- 11:27Speaker 1: or never.
- 11:29Speaker 2: It's definitely a factor and it's definitely a real name.
- 11:32Speaker 2: So katel Marte is one of the best second basemen
- 11:35Speaker 2: in baseball. There's not much question about that. He's signed
- 11:38Speaker 2: for several more years at a rate where if he
- 11:40Speaker 2: is productive, it is still quite reasonable. So why would
- 11:45Speaker 2: the Diamondbacks want to trade him? Well, the reason would
- 11:49Speaker 2: be they have so many holes and maybe if they
- 11:52Speaker 2: trade him they can fill those holes. Now, is it
- 11:55Speaker 2: likely this is going to happen? I don't know that
- 11:56Speaker 2: I would call it likely. Is it something that is
- 11:59Speaker 2: being discussed at Absolutely, it is being discussed, and absolutely
- 12:03Speaker 2: the Diamondbacks are in a funny position because remember they
- 12:06Speaker 2: traded Meller Kelly, They lost Zach Gallant a free agency,
- 12:09Speaker 2: not expected to get him back. Corbyn Burns is out
- 12:13Speaker 2: for a good portion of the season, at least the
- 12:15Speaker 2: first half. I would expect after Tommy John surgery. Two
- 12:18Speaker 2: of their top relievers aj Puck, Justin Martinez also coming
- 12:22Speaker 2: off Tommy John surgery. These guys are going to come back,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and they're gonna come back in the second half. We
- 12:27Speaker 2: don't know what their level of production will be. Maybe
- 12:30Speaker 2: they're back even in the late in the first half,
- 12:32Speaker 2: but we don't know what they're gonna do. And the
- 12:35Speaker 2: Diamondbacks have these pitching needs and they want to maybe
- 12:39Speaker 2: balance things out a little bit. So a trade of
- 12:42Speaker 2: Marte is at least something that you would explore if
- 12:45Speaker 2: you're the Diamondbacks. Does it happen? Do they get everything
- 12:48Speaker 2: they want for him? That I'm not sure of.
- 12:51Speaker 3: You wrote about the shortstop position for the Braves about
- 12:54Speaker 3: how they got Mauricio Dubon and maybe it would be
- 12:57Speaker 3: okay if they didn't maybe have as productive a shortstop,
- 13:01Speaker 3: and you listed I think five teams Yankees, Mariners, Guardians, Brewers,
- 13:09Speaker 3: and who is the fifth team, Tiger Tigers.
- 13:13Speaker 2: The Tigers Tigers had also had the Blue Jays because
- 13:15Speaker 2: they went to him in as in September and he
- 13:18Speaker 2: was not a good offensive player during the regular season.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So that's a brave But the Braves want to The
- 13:25Speaker 3: Braves want to win the World Series. That is why
- 13:28Speaker 3: they gave all these extensions. None of those teams won
- 13:32Speaker 3: the World Series. Now, the Blue Jays, I would take
- 13:33Speaker 3: them off the list because they had Boba Schett and
- 13:35Speaker 3: he kind of carried them. Is it if they do
- 13:38Speaker 3: not go and get somebody else that has more of
- 13:41Speaker 3: an offensive upside? Is that a sign that well, we
- 13:45Speaker 3: didn't want to spend enough to make it or is
- 13:47Speaker 3: that a sign that it's just tough to find that
- 13:50Speaker 3: at the shortstop position. And we're just gonna kind of
- 13:53Speaker 3: have to deal with it because the last few seasons
- 13:55Speaker 3: we haven't had it and look at where we've been.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Eric will have to see And you're asking valid questions. One,
- 14:02Speaker 2: are they going to spend what they have said they
- 14:05Speaker 2: will spend. The chairman of the team, Terry McGirk, has
- 14:08Speaker 2: said he anticipates them being a top five payroll team. Again.
- 14:13Speaker 2: The problem they're having at shortstop is that there aren't
- 14:16Speaker 2: many good ones available. Hash On Kim is the leading
- 14:20Speaker 2: guy in free agency and Scott Boris and Kim they
- 14:24Speaker 2: want to explore the market. They don't want to just
- 14:26Speaker 2: sign with the Braves in November. And if the Braves
- 14:28Speaker 2: made him an offer right now, let's say it was
- 14:31Speaker 2: a competitive offer. If you're Boris, you're thinking, Okay, that's
- 14:35Speaker 2: the floor. Let's see what else we can get. That's normal,
- 14:38Speaker 2: that's free agency. So they can still sign Kim, and
- 14:42Speaker 2: maybe if Kim's market doesn't develop in a way that
- 14:45Speaker 2: he and Boris expect, that can happen. But it's not
- 14:48Speaker 2: something that they could certainly bank on, and that is
- 14:52Speaker 2: why they went out and got Dubon. Now, are there
- 14:55Speaker 2: other shortstops who could factor into their discussions at some
- 14:59Speaker 2: point this offseason? Could C. J. Abrams, the Nationals shortstop,
- 15:03Speaker 2: be someone that they discuss? Possibly is Gil Tovar. I
- 15:07Speaker 2: included him in the column just because the Rockies, you
- 15:09Speaker 2: don't know who they'll trade. And certainly, while Tovar is
- 15:13Speaker 2: probably one of their two or three best players, he's
- 15:16Speaker 2: a guy that maybe they feel they can get a
- 15:18Speaker 2: lot for and turnover in that way. I don't know.
- 15:21Speaker 2: The Braves, though, what they did with Dubon was simply
- 15:25Speaker 2: establish a baseline for what they will have going into
- 15:28Speaker 2: twenty six. Now, the point of listing those teams with
- 15:32Speaker 2: shortstops that didn't have great production at the position last
- 15:35Speaker 2: year was to point out that you can make the postseason.
- 15:38Speaker 2: You can even get to the World Series and get
- 15:39Speaker 2: within two outs of the World Series with a less
- 15:42Speaker 2: than potent offensive shortstop. Is it the way you would
- 15:47Speaker 2: prefer to go? Absolutely, it is not. They want to
- 15:50Speaker 2: do better at that position. It's just not clear whether
- 15:52Speaker 2: that's going to be possible.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Ken last one, I'm going to give you two player
- 15:57Speaker 1: names who have some similarities and some signal differences. One
- 16:01Speaker 1: can be up for grabs if you trade the other
- 16:02Speaker 1: ones a free agent. Have you heard anything or have
- 16:05Speaker 1: any thoughts on Luisa Rise and Stephen Kwan. This is
- 16:09Speaker 1: accumulation of many questions coming in from fans. I'm like,
- 16:12Speaker 1: let me just bunch those two together because they're both
- 16:14Speaker 1: great at one trade and then they have many differences
- 16:16Speaker 1: on the rest. But what do you think of those
- 16:18Speaker 1: two heading into this hot stove season?
- 16:21Speaker 2: Well, of course, these are the contact kings of the
- 16:23Speaker 2: sport right now. And Luisa Rise Mike Petriello of MLB
- 16:26Speaker 2: dot Com wrote an interesting story about him today on
- 16:29Speaker 2: how polarizing a guy He is high padding average for sure,
- 16:33Speaker 2: he makes incredible contact, but there isn't much else to
- 16:37Speaker 2: recommend this game. He's not a great defender, and he
- 16:40Speaker 2: certainly does not hit for power. His market is something
- 16:44Speaker 2: that is going to be really curious to see, and
- 16:48Speaker 2: Petriela listed the Rockies as maybe the best fit for
- 16:51Speaker 2: him because he's a guy that obviously can spray the
- 16:54Speaker 2: ball and that's a place where you get base hits
- 16:57Speaker 2: because the outfield is so big. So I don't know
- 17:00Speaker 2: how it's going to go for him. Now. Kwan is
- 17:02Speaker 2: entirely different. Kwan is a better defender for one thing,
- 17:05Speaker 2: in left field. He is someone who is quite productive
- 17:08Speaker 2: as an offensive player, and he's someone who is due
- 17:12Speaker 2: to make about nine million in arbitration. The Guardians discussed
- 17:16Speaker 2: him at the deadline. They set their bar high and
- 17:19Speaker 2: no one met it. Will they discuss him again? I
- 17:22Speaker 2: would expect that they would, simply because that's what the
- 17:24Speaker 2: Guardians do. But if you trade Stephen Kwan off an
- 17:28Speaker 2: offense that was a bottom five offense last season, then
- 17:32Speaker 2: where are you? And this is a team, remember coming
- 17:35Speaker 2: off back to back playoff appearances, not plate appearances. So yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 2: they can entertain it, but it would have to be
- 17:42Speaker 2: a really good return and they'd have to get some
- 17:44Speaker 2: offensive help. They do have some young hitters coming that
- 17:47Speaker 2: I know they're excited about, but you also need veterans,
- 17:51Speaker 2: and Stephen Kwan is a stabilizer for that franchise. To me,
- 17:56Speaker 2: that would be a tough guy to trade right now.
- 17:59Speaker 3: If there were trade him. We had heard before that
- 18:02Speaker 3: Classe and him were kind of in a package at
- 18:05Speaker 3: nine million dollars for a contact type of hitter. Does
- 18:07Speaker 3: the league look at it that maybe they'd have to
- 18:10Speaker 3: throw in some type of bullpen piece in with him,
- 18:13Speaker 3: because stand alone teams are clearly Padres are trying to
- 18:17Speaker 3: get rid of Luisa Rise forever and he was making
- 18:21Speaker 3: close to that last year.
- 18:23Speaker 2: I don't think you need to package Stephen Kuan with
- 18:26Speaker 2: a reliever, And there was talk of both of them
- 18:29Speaker 2: at the deadline classe before of course the gambling stuff surfaced,
- 18:33Speaker 2: but it was never necessarily a package. It was that
- 18:36Speaker 2: they were both getting discussed in trade separately. So no,
- 18:40Speaker 2: to me, Stephen Kwan is value. We saw that at
- 18:42Speaker 2: the deadline. Dodgers wanted him, other teams wanted him, and
- 18:46Speaker 2: it didn't get done because the price wasn't meant. But
- 18:49Speaker 2: he's got value, pretty high value within the industry.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, more of a complete player too than Arise. Although
- 18:56Speaker 1: I love me some Luisa rise in spurts, I know,
- 18:59Speaker 1: not as good as season ken good stuff. Enjoy the weekend. No,
- 19:02Speaker 1: we're loading up, getting ready. Winter meetings right around the corner.
- 19:05Speaker 1: But we'll see you next week.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Thanks guys.
- 19:08Speaker 5: Or they need to do a trade deadline in the winter,
- 19:10Speaker 5: I think that will really speed up. I think last
- 19:12Speaker 5: year the trade deadline of they were talking about cease
- 19:15Speaker 5: and a couple other guys holding up markets because they
- 19:17Speaker 5: didn't know who was gonna get traded, and then markets
- 19:19Speaker 5: don't move. So I think to speed up maybe a
- 19:22Speaker 5: free agent situation, put a trade deadline in the wintertime,
- 19:25Speaker 5: because once you're on a team and all that, you know,
- 19:28Speaker 5: it's hey, after let's say after January fifteenth, you're with
- 19:32Speaker 5: that team until you know April, was it April? They
- 19:36Speaker 5: can't trade you until April thirtieth or something like that
- 19:38Speaker 5: or April I don't remember. Once she's but maybe put
- 19:41Speaker 5: a little window there that might might help some things out.
- 19:44Speaker 5: But all in all, you want to be ready to
- 19:45Speaker 5: go wherever you go by the first of the year
- 19:47Speaker 5: so you can get things set up.
- 19:50Speaker 1: That's Lance Lane on the revamped Cardinal Territory, which also
- 19:54Speaker 1: features really a great cast of characters. You can see
- 19:57Speaker 1: him on there just now with Jimmy is In Manha
- 20:00Speaker 1: and Kyle Gibson. But he brought up an interesting idea, Kratz.
- 20:03Speaker 1: We we hear a lot about the signing deadline, but
- 20:07Speaker 1: the trade deadline makes way more sense. The signing deadline
- 20:10Speaker 1: is going to cause significant labor issues and it's just
- 20:13Speaker 1: never gonna happen.
- 20:14Speaker 2: The trade deadline is doable.
- 20:15Speaker 1: You're able to do a dark period during the winter meetings,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and I do or after the Winter meetings, and I
- 20:21Speaker 1: do think that it would lead to overall more activity
- 20:24Speaker 1: in the market and quicker activity, because that is the
- 20:27Speaker 1: common thing. Oh we're waiting on the trade market. Oh
- 20:29Speaker 1: we're waiting on the players to sign, and it's like okay,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and then nothing happens for two months.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Never can you touch somebody's six year free agency. You
- 20:37Speaker 3: can never say, ooh, you know, we're gonna put a
- 20:40Speaker 3: deadline on this. We're gonna put a cap on this,
- 20:42Speaker 3: We're gonna put it takes so much to get to
- 20:45Speaker 3: be a big lead free agent. You can't touch that.
- 20:48Speaker 3: But I love this because it'll it'll it'll solve a
- 20:51Speaker 3: lot of things. If a team's like, ah, you know
- 20:53Speaker 3: I'm in on this trade.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I'm out.
- 20:55Speaker 3: You know, I don't know Dylan Cease is worth. You
- 20:59Speaker 3: know he's gonna get paid ten million. Are we willing
- 21:01Speaker 3: to spend ten million?
- 21:03Speaker 2: Ah?
- 21:03Speaker 3: They don't want to trade them.
- 21:04Speaker 2: It's not a fit.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Bang we move on the free agents right away, or
- 21:09Speaker 3: it would get what we didn't see last year, like
- 21:11Speaker 3: teams were just calling, hey, how's the off season, Hey,
- 21:15Speaker 3: how's your truck running? All this stuff? What are you
- 21:17Speaker 3: thinking about a team no offers. It would start getting
- 21:20Speaker 3: teams saying, hey, we're gonna make an offer at like
- 21:22Speaker 3: this year, at a Zach Gallon, Hey, we're gonna offer
- 21:25Speaker 3: you five years twenty million a year. Because if Gallon says, no,
- 21:31Speaker 3: I want five years. I want five years one forty. Now,
- 21:35Speaker 3: all of a sudden, it kicks back because we have
- 21:37Speaker 3: to do this early. It kicks back and say, Okay,
- 21:39Speaker 3: we're gonna go after Sandyl Contra. We're gonna go after
- 21:43Speaker 3: whatever it's gonna take for trek Skouble, whatever that is.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I think it kicks everything up faster, which is what
- 21:49Speaker 3: people want.
- 21:51Speaker 4: And I love what Lancett said. I wish they would
- 21:54Speaker 4: do that. Being a part of it cratzy, as you know,
- 21:57Speaker 4: it's it takes a mental toll on the guys that
- 22:00Speaker 4: are trying to find a team, the second and third
- 22:02Speaker 4: tier players, and it just it gets frustrating. I do
- 22:06Speaker 4: agree with him. I wish they could do something like that,
- 22:09Speaker 4: so you know, at the end of the day, you
- 22:11Speaker 4: kind of know exactly where you're going. And then it
- 22:13Speaker 4: makes them, meaning the owners in GMS, a little more
- 22:18Speaker 4: of a push. All right, we can't get this guy.
- 22:20Speaker 4: This guy says he's not going there, boom. Then who's next.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Then a guy like me comes along, all right, let's go.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Let's talk.
- 22:25Speaker 4: So I would love to see
