- 0:33I'm so drunk. Hello.
- 0:42Welcome back to a hamster with a blunt.
- 0:44Penknife the Doctor Who comment with podcast, but knows how many
- 0:48beans make five. Yeah.
- 0:51What do we do? How many beads make to and to
- 0:52apparently, do you feed it into the wrong computer?
- 0:57Yeah, I mean, there is one person that knows how many beans
- 0:59make five is that the Brigadier, Brigadier.
- 1:02And I could discuss the big idea of knowing how many beans make
- 1:05five. But this was a question that was
- 1:07posed To Us by our good friend. Same in heart.
- 1:10Oh. Okay, he also posted a question
- 1:15to us about what we thought of the opening credits, which we
- 1:19discussed in episode 17 way. Yeah, and we asked us if Liz
- 1:25Shaw as a clever scientist, worked as a companion.
- 1:27Oh no, we cover that as well. The sword to and always use all
- 1:32the question was, how many beans make five?
- 1:34And I think the only answer I've got to that is Right, cut it
- 1:38open. I still has a great look like
- 1:42you know, that I think this is a story full of great
- 1:44Cliffhangers. There's only one and nobody can
- 1:47actually see me right now, which I think it's a bit dodgy and
- 1:49that's per we gon rock this facial, pull back as he's
- 1:53hitting the g-force, and going through space.
- 1:56Oh, you can't, you can't not have a perfectly story without
- 1:59him. Good, that's true.
- 2:00Yeah, it's but we doesn't good. Then, you know, you're missing a
- 2:04trick. The best is Spirit from space
- 2:06when he's got, what I was. Tentacles rallies, neck other
- 2:08camera zooming in and out. It's interesting because
- 2:12obviously Michael Ferguson has learnt a lesson since seeds of
- 2:16death, because obviously you have the same affect their of
- 2:22the g-force on the on the counters.
- 2:24Where is literally just part troughton prison.
- 2:28But if I'd be following their first work like this, they got a
- 2:31not this industrial fan on / way and the blue is faced by, you
- 2:36know, Hey good. Some money coming in again.
- 2:39It's the kind of TV license, even if it weighs nothing.
- 2:44So I called James strong, we did Impossible Planet at the money
- 2:47director or something like that. I can't remember now.
- 2:51But that's basically what Ferguson is isn't it?
- 2:55I chose to go very bad quickly. What we're saying in the last
- 2:58episode about the direction. Yeah and this season, you've got
- 3:03Derek Martinez Tim Calhoun. Yep.
- 3:07Michael Ferguson, Douglas Canfield, and Barry.
- 3:10Less oven is a week director there, you know?
- 3:13No, no, it's me Bobby. Let's has it's one of these
- 3:20ones. Where you think, if you wasn't a
- 3:23producer, you would be, you know, your star director.
- 3:27You know, if you if you want, if you want to start a raptor, you
- 3:32probably be a you're safe pair of As writer him and Bob sloman
- 3:37together. If you cannot say monster.
- 3:39And if you can conceive it as a passion project, he could write,
- 3:45and direct a story. Yeah.
- 3:48You could probably just send everyone else home.
- 3:50You could probably just, you know, right?
- 3:51That directed produce it. Like, but, you know, I think
- 3:55like some people say, the power, we are being delivered into his
- 3:59hands. Made it safer and more
- 4:01comfortable and blah, blah blah. I think he is an Ably,
- 4:05incredibly strong, producer, director, and writer.
- 4:10After I don't think the Pertwee era could have been in a safe
- 4:13Pair of Hands. That's its.
- 4:16Oh yeah. Well yes, a question for you.
- 4:17So you know Terrance dicks didn't like the dr.
- 4:19Bean Earthbound. I would like to didn't like the
- 4:22dr. Weiner stoned.
- 4:25Why was the dr. Earth bo3 Series?
- 4:27Yeah, I know that they terroristic says they wanted to
- 4:30like stagger it so I didn't just feel like a sudden reversal of
- 4:34that format change but they could have done it, couldn't
- 4:37they don't know. This happens about it, there's
- 4:39nothing to stop them, you know, in as early as Terror of the
- 4:43autons of seeing wake up, I've got the bits, I need from the
- 4:45money, for the snow isn't too loose box.
- 4:49I mean, the Daniel night said, previously was as you if You
- 4:54watch the Pertwee era in sequence?
- 4:56Yeah, it rewards so much more than watching individual stories
- 5:02because they are absolutely taking a narrative of how we
- 5:04stuck there. How he's making little trips and
- 5:07doing things for the time Lords. How he's making relationships
- 5:11with people. Yeah, then he's offer and then
- 5:14those relationships start breaking up and you know, it has
- 5:17an impact as a narrative as an impact.
- 5:20No. That's I think that's absolutely
- 5:21right and I think I've said this a few times.
- 5:24No. And I really wish I knew who
- 5:26said it that I could, you know, give them the benefit of the
- 5:28court. But someone said that, you know,
- 5:32Season 8 is the doctor been a moody teenager and he really you
- 5:37know, he's he's been grounded by his mom and dad.
- 5:40His first girlfriend split up with him as dumped him and you
- 5:44know Season 8 is the sort of the backlash from that.
- 5:50You know, everyone gets the tongue-lashing because he is
- 5:52with me is worse than it is. In the demons.
- 5:55But I think the way he behaves in the first episode of the mind
- 5:58of evil, when he goes to that demonstration.
- 6:00Oh God, you click on that. It wouldn't you like to see in
- 6:07this one? He gets it spot-on.
- 6:09He has that twinkle in his eyes like spearhead as well.
- 6:12You know, where he's like, you do something with his eyebrows
- 6:15to see how to handle is. Oh, just has that kind of delft
- 6:18on where they communicate with her eyebrows that's delft on,
- 6:21for hello. And as your friend, I'm gonna
- 6:23say something to you right now. Stop it.
- 6:29I'm right, but your heart, if it is any nerves from poetry, you
- 6:34know, after spearhead. Well I think he's kind of
- 6:37feeling its way in a little bit from from silurians onwards.
- 6:40I just feel like you just got it.
- 6:42Yes, he was doing or what he wanted.
- 6:44Yeah, absolutely. And needs.
- 6:46He doesn't let up from that door.
- 6:48Does he doesn't like I think the rate and steers in more towards
- 6:53being a more difficult. character, the what he wants to
- 6:58portray especially things like say that the ends are big like
- 7:00Source in the mind of evil where there's lines there, which
- 7:03deliberately Or insufferable, you know, towards the characters
- 7:09in terms of his performance. You know, he's got that that
- 7:12charm, he's got that in. Pomposity and arrogance or
- 7:18they're mixed in but that's why I saw Steve.
- 7:21The last episode of axons where he looks like he's turning on
- 7:24everybody so he can chip off of Earth.
- 7:26I am convinced when he goes oh bye Joe, I'll miss you and then
- 7:32throws a look at the Brigadier. And I'm like, well that's how
- 7:34he's been behaving, all these. Yeah exactly that's how he and
- 7:38that. That's, that's what I mean.
- 7:39It's that sort of like lack of respect towards like the
- 7:42Brigadier and everyone else that really, for me, that's What
- 7:45makes him more difficult? I mean my relationship with
- 7:49Pertwee is, you know, you kinda grew up with them to a certain
- 7:54extent. You know, when I was a teenager
- 7:58in the early 90s, it was the Pertwee stories that was shown
- 8:03on the BBC more than anything else.
- 8:06And obviously, I had two seasons in McCoy but then I was like
- 8:09thirsty for more Doctor Who and what I was getting that I wasn't
- 8:13getting off of your chest was BBC with Pete.
- 8:15It's the. So it was the green death.
- 8:16It was the cedar was, it was Planet of the Daleks and these
- 8:19are the ones that you know, when I was growing up with really
- 8:25impactful on me and I really love Jon Pertwee in the 90s when
- 8:28I was growing up. It's only when I've kind of come
- 8:30back to him in recent times especially with like the season
- 8:348 box. That we think actually these are
- 8:36more difficult character other like than he was so well you
- 8:41know me see I love 22 College. A car.
- 8:45I love series 8. Yeah, I like Davison when he's
- 8:52getting really grumpy and season 21 Arie.
- 8:56I do really like early Tom Baker where he's a bit of a grump and
- 9:00I find early Pertwee. He's a bit more intolerable but
- 9:06he is a bit more interesting. I think when he was acidic a bit
- 9:09nasty, but I see how in this series.
- 9:12He's, he's a lot more nice. He's a lot more, likable bits.
- 9:15When you get into it and you actually looks like you got that
- 9:17weird dynamic where the villain of the piece is more Charming
- 9:21but the hero you're ruined and then you get the demons with the
- 9:26Masters in danger. At the end of the episode,
- 9:28you're going o know what's going to happen to the villain.
- 9:30We really liked him but then the demons is the really the payoff
- 9:33of that, isn't it? Because it's what they Pete
- 9:36Lambert I'll don't you go pull it out that theory of is again
- 9:40that's all right - that really works.
- 9:42You know the fact that you're the doctor has to A this
- 9:46completely intolerable insufferable man.
- 9:50That Joe would still throw herself in front of Hazard for
- 9:53does not compute. Voila, we could talk about her,
- 9:59we saw the cows come home, but should we see him in action?
- 10:02Let's all right. I'll count as in, then, we'll
- 10:04talk about them until the beans come home in five, four, three,
- 10:11two, one. And off we go.
- 10:15Go into time. And then you can get your big
- 10:21faced over with a big face of. I this is myelin a low in, it's
- 10:26very active in that whole sequence.
- 10:28Looks like he's a very mild level Buffon as terroristic.
- 10:33This is it. This is the invest in the polo
- 10:35between Pertwee and Capaldi, in terms of all, you know, being
- 10:42quite unlike about to start with.
- 10:43But the bigger, the bouffant, the softer, the character.
- 10:48Well, you must be a very Charming Man then because you're
- 10:50sporting a fabulous booth on at the moment.
- 10:52And honestly, definitely need a haircut.
- 10:57I think not enough. Is that what's this guy's name?
- 10:59Is it Ronald Allen's Island. Yeah, he's very naturalistic.
- 11:06He's also got a really good intensity about them as well,
- 11:10and I love the way that Michael Ferguson, you know, is playing
- 11:15with his massive strength in, there was so many close-ups of
- 11:18our Cornish in this, but I, you know that we've done.
- 11:21Now, we've done all of these trout and bass Under Siege
- 11:24stories with the, you know, hideously arrogant base
- 11:28Commander's like Clen and on the sun and people are like, I mean,
- 11:32this is just insane. Completely different is, they
- 11:35are believe, he is a fellow. Going about and doing this job,
- 11:38you know, really, is he really is and he said make, I say it's
- 11:43up depth, it's those layers to him from him.
- 11:47You know, sometimes sticks in my Coke that are lifting lifting
- 11:51the stroke because he's got a lot of work to do.
- 11:52He's he's in this all from start to finish and you know, other
- 11:57characters come and go but you know he's one of the ones that's
- 12:00your throat. And watch.
- 12:02Watch pit. We jump up on this.
- 12:04Even having a know that dad cutting torches there.
- 12:09Lips under that, at least you could have just cut to that
- 12:11being open and actually showed them cutting it open.
- 12:15But again, it's that sort of pattern, the others date or will
- 12:18have to wait, to cut it up and sort of thing.
- 12:20It's the stretch it out everything, but the given us
- 12:23even even say is what multi-camera you car when you
- 12:25do, but they just sent, they literally had the shot of him
- 12:28looking in, then they have the shot of what he was seeing, you
- 12:32know, what I mean? It's like it's It's quite
- 12:35dynamically done. It's make the food is always got
- 12:38a good angle hasn't. He's you know I'll wait hasn't
- 12:40this been re colorized? Yes, yes, it's looking, it's not
- 12:45looking the best of them in it and I think it was was episode.
- 12:491 was the only one that survived in color and the rest of had to
- 12:52be amazed. Yeah, but come on like the fact
- 12:58that this show is loved enough that people will go to the
- 13:03effort of recolor eyes. I mean, come on.
- 13:06We are lucky. We are mean the fact that people
- 13:10will, you know, troll the planet for You're kind of stars which
- 13:15you've got Doctor Who in them and, you know, like to see a
- 13:18goal of the effort of finding hidden color and stuff and
- 13:23chrome a Datsun and everything. It's I don't pretend to
- 13:26understand any of it, but I'm just very thankful that they do
- 13:29it. I'll okay, let's talk about
- 13:31these space-suited. Ambassador's genius.
- 13:35She needs us the most dad's back, but he's in his uniform
- 13:39now. And yes, it's such a fantastic
- 13:43concept and Scientists the, with some shots, where you can see.
- 13:47It's just like a person laughter inside with heart because most
- 13:52the time, it's all missed it up, isn't it?
- 13:54Yeah. But when it's missed it up and
- 13:55you can't see is like the idea that it's just like oldest burnt
- 13:59with radiation. Yeah, so that is it is like the
- 14:03suspense of is holding back from.
- 14:05What the hell look? First of all was like, what the
- 14:07hell was in the capsule now? It's what the hell is he?
- 14:10No spaceships as basics? That's great.
- 14:16I am free. I'm seeing a scene later when
- 14:18you actually do see what's in there, it's pretty horrific as
- 14:21well. That is really, really well.
- 14:24Sure it is, it's putting it's a split second.
- 14:27It's like it's a blink and you miss that moment.
- 14:31And that's what it should be. Because even little characters
- 14:35like this man here is saying, you can't ask me to do this and
- 14:37they get a little moments of depth.
- 14:40Oh, there's the heart as the heart.
- 14:43Yes, sorry. Brigadier your berries out.
- 14:47This is hats in the room. Google fonts.
- 14:51It's another thing I like about this is that unit or I've got
- 14:57regulation haircuts, its own stuff but you get to like, you
- 15:02know, Season 10 season 11 and like it's like yeah.
- 15:05Come on bending. There's no way.
- 15:07You'd get I just know was behaving like they're in the
- 15:10Army. No.
- 15:11He's in this one. In this one.
- 15:13The really are you get to see lots of troops doing?
- 15:16Lots of army things, it's all need mind of you.
- 15:19Laughter this, where you get that, that sense of scale, and
- 15:22that sense of I'd say the well, I say invasion of the dinosaurs
- 15:25has some moments as well, it sounds.
- 15:28It's not unit though. It's kind of like Army in
- 15:30general that point, you know. But this year you really get a
- 15:33sense that the Brigadier has, you know, men at his command,
- 15:36who can go and do things. And it's you hear how Caroline
- 15:41John got this role, or how she, how she got noticed.
- 15:46So, she said, pictures To spot or whatever it is, you know,
- 15:51wherever the acts of send their pictures.
- 15:53In, in a short skirt, she seldom get me some attention and be a
- 15:57bright was like higher. Well, Ava, and I worked.
- 16:03Yeah, she just she should send a picture in that hat honestly.
- 16:08Did you have a criticism of this sure?
- 16:10That, you know. She dresses too.
- 16:15Pretty for scientists. Why can't you dress pretty as a
- 16:18scientist? Exactly.
- 16:21What on the outrageous? Suggestion?
- 16:23Yeah, absolutely. How dare you be brainy and sexy?
- 16:28My God. But this is it?
- 16:32The Huts just dominating the scene so he's not convinced at
- 16:36all. In this state, he's been fed a
- 16:39pack of lies and he's not so convinced it was this one?
- 16:43Or was it long before we just slams?
- 16:45The pencils? I don't know if he breaks it and
- 16:47yeah, I think it's in this thing actually.
- 16:48Yeah, it's holding it now that it is.
- 16:55Yeah it is much more sophisticated than we're used
- 16:58to. You go back to season 6 and you
- 17:00were doing very simple item. Ice Warriors are bad and humans
- 17:05are good. Yes, dominators dominate
- 17:09croutons cooled and the people in the war games.
- 17:16Well, they stir up about that to the black ants and have a lot of
- 17:19Johnny fun doing that. Yes.
- 17:22Attack. Do you remember the the top
- 17:26Target? Cover.
- 17:29Yes, of the, the hands and the its face.
- 17:32So, it's again, it's an iconic design.
- 17:34It's, it's like the draconians, you know, you see it a lot in
- 17:40publicity photos. You see like the 10th
- 17:42anniversary. Like the ambassadors are coming.
- 17:44You know, it's one of these ones with it.
- 17:46Why was this never used again? But suppose in the context of
- 17:53this story, you know, these aliens would never come back in
- 17:57those space suits. And this is the point where I
- 18:00was getting a bit confused and I was like, right?
- 18:02Okay. So carentan has we, are we
- 18:08supposed to be convinced that Carrington is telling the doctor
- 18:10the truth in that previous scene, and that this is Reagan
- 18:14coming in off his own steam, taking the ambassador's away,
- 18:18whilst the doctor & Co are going to this place.
- 18:20To see the ambassadors. This is this, that's pretty much
- 18:22it is that you know, the aliens were kidnapped by Carrington but
- 18:27no Oh, someone else has kidnap, the aliens from Carrington.
- 18:32And the what the actual twist is is that person is working as it
- 18:35was all becoming and Carrington. So with this is where we get a
- 18:39bit twisty-turny. I've got a question for you now,
- 18:42then yes, is Reagan the best heavy in all of dr.
- 18:49Who wouldn't you should say that?
- 18:51Because someone else is us that as well.
- 18:55I said there's only one Contender no, to actually, I
- 18:59think, I think William Marlow's character in mind of evil is
- 19:05Really scary and I love scorpion.
- 19:07Caesar Doom as well. That's it's Regan.
- 19:10Is the best human villain of the Pertwee era discuss and that's
- 19:13again from Daniel later. So yes, I think absolutely.
- 19:17I think we can hear is again. He's got so much depth to his
- 19:23character and he's obviously a Hired Hand.
- 19:26But years capable, he is vicious years without conscience.
- 19:35He's got his own agenda even, you know, he's not just a hired
- 19:40goon because, you know, obviously spiders, current and
- 19:43want borders and to kill the doctor later on, he doesn't, he
- 19:45thinks I can use this man, a my lunch.
- 19:47I'm going to bring him back to bust it out each queue or
- 19:51whatever it is and it's just fantastic.
- 19:54He's also I love like the fact that he can go to Mission
- 19:56Control and you know you know how all that he's smart like
- 20:00this sequence. Here is incredible where he
- 20:03buries the two bodies. This is astonishingly adult for
- 20:06Doctor Who, so don't lie. Yeah, this isn't the sort of
- 20:09cartoon violence. We were getting last year and
- 20:11the what we get next year? Yeah, I mean, this is I'm going
- 20:15to put you in the back. You to go in the back with these
- 20:18astronauts will not harm. You.
- 20:20You've got guns knowing full well that they are not going to
- 20:23come out life because of the radiation and I don't know why
- 20:27it's all seen. All the equipment and the gravel
- 20:30cut being poured down and there's just something about the
- 20:33way this is directed. So clinically it makes me a bit.
- 20:37I got a woman when Karen on John's watching this on the
- 20:39commentary and she says oh this is horrible, you know?
- 20:43And it is, I mean it's a horrible sort of death for these
- 20:47characters and it's a whole other way that they are then
- 20:50dealt with afterwards but like you wouldn't be seeing this in
- 20:54the ground Williams era. You wouldn't be seeing this in
- 20:56season 24. This is uniquely season 7.
- 20:59I think it is, you'd see something like this in
- 21:02Hinchcliffe. I think I do.
- 21:05I still don't think it would be as killing me cause I think it
- 21:07would, it's play. That is a big cartoony.
- 21:09Some of that violence in hinge Clips?
- 21:10No, I think it's a bit melodramatic.
- 21:13There's nothing melodramatic about this.
- 21:14This is just rough. It's clinical and it's graphic,
- 21:20even though you're not actually saying anything.
- 21:22You know, you'd actually seen like, and bust us do some big
- 21:25Zappo. Anything, just the fact that
- 21:27meal sit in the back of a van with these these guys for half
- 21:30an hour or so and you're done, you mentioned the word bond.
- 21:34Earlier about some of this and I think Reagan is the character
- 21:39that reminds me most of a bond character because it later on,
- 21:44he's like, in a suit, isn't he with like a colorful, hanky he's
- 21:49incredibly Charming in a way that like James Bond actually is
- 21:54and yet he's vicious as well, you know?
- 21:57And and does some diabolical things.
- 22:00Absolutely, I mean, this this here, the way the Vantage It's
- 22:05very cute bond. Isn't it very catchy?
- 22:11It's such a dastardly revolving, like, okay, that was a very
- 22:15expensive effect. It looks a bit dark but if it
- 22:18was very expensive, it's great. Obviously do you think Doctor
- 22:27Who Could Be sustained being this adult this Fisk ated?
- 22:35I thought think It could be, I think any more than it could be
- 22:41sustained. Being, you know, as Camp.
- 22:44As maybes. 24 was yeah. Otters.
- 22:50You know, that type of humor from from 17.
- 22:53I think you can get a couple series out of it but you need to
- 22:56have a bit of a righty. I don't know, I've made the drug
- 22:59so many times know that doctor who is a broader church with so
- 23:04many different styles in everything that, you know, just
- 23:08to have one, you know, type of Story, one type of year after
- 23:13two long isn't good, as it did Hinchcliffe.
- 23:15You know, you wouldn't you'll get away with Hinchcliffe for
- 23:18much longer than you actually didn't fact.
- 23:19We didn't, you know, it was me. All the case of technical
- 23:23Filipino, Mary's, there he's pissed.
- 23:27She's coming off the other than anything else.
- 23:29You know, people were kind of moved on a little bit and it's
- 23:32probably want with discuss. Something about whether GNT
- 23:36Shoulda left. You know sooner than he did, but
- 23:41you know what? I think we just need to be happy
- 23:42that we've got stories. Like this, which are, you know,
- 23:48I don't think there's anything like season seven anywhere else
- 23:52in Doctor Who there's no, I think if it is celebrated for
- 23:56that isn't it, but it's very unique.
- 23:59It's very different. It's the word that people keep
- 24:03using as Christy. Yeah, which, okay, I mean, yeah.
- 24:08What we just saw how loud, a great, you know, they got a very
- 24:12gritty, you know, it's hard sci-fi.
- 24:16Let's see what and not just because of grit and because of
- 24:20our adult, but because the those ideas, the idea of like parallel
- 24:24universe the idea with aliens but that aren't aliens, they
- 24:29are, you know, imagine if your lizard's evolved rather than you
- 24:35know monkeys in India. Humanoids.
- 24:38What would you get sort of thing?
- 24:40It's, it's a hard idea to hard sci-fi idea behind all, I think,
- 24:46as well, he is doing nothing as if like these are these are Big
- 24:49Ideas. But if this realistically played
- 24:53out, you know, lizard people aliens coming to Earth parallel
- 24:58universes. I don't think I would other
- 25:01seasons of Doctor Who are thinking in that way I told
- 25:03they're like, well, let's just be a crazy imaginative, your
- 25:06axle. So you know, it's somewhere the
- 25:08Crazy. I just saw several shops then,
- 25:11right? And this is how you know, dogs
- 25:13who is being a dull because I managed to get a genuinely
- 25:17naturalistic performance out of several shots.
- 25:19I don't know if you remember him in Tomb of the Cybermen, when
- 25:21he's going around going. Oh, this hateful place or in
- 25:25Androids of Tara's the archimandrite and that's
- 25:28fabulous. Colorful hat.
- 25:29Remember, we bought our own planet of the spiders.
- 25:31Only got two incredible and there, but in this, there's a
- 25:35sea layer where it gets killed without isil.
- 25:38Hope that it's a genuinely dramatic.
- 25:40It's shocking. That is probably one of the most
- 25:43adult things and we've ever seen in doctor when we get there.
- 25:47We'll discuss that a little bit further.
- 25:49You said about your wife watching into the Dalek.
- 25:52Yeah, and saying, I'm not watching this anymore.
- 25:55When Peter Capaldi made a varied other things, she would care for
- 25:57this senior with Lennox and the isotope.
- 26:00Yeah, absolutely. I mean we're still so The
- 26:08believe that's the astronauts at this point.
- 26:12We yes, sort of all we are not sure and it does get a little
- 26:18bit confused, click the doctor starting very shortly that you
- 26:21know, that astronauts are still in space because current is fed
- 26:26us a line has any that it's have been affected with infectious
- 26:29radiation in So on and so forth. So if you kind of like believe
- 26:33in him, you're taking his word on.
- 26:35If you're like me, then you're thinking or they are, they are
- 26:38the astronauts and we sing this out.
- 26:41This is, this is, this is your prison cell for the astronauts,
- 26:43right? But what they've done is, is
- 26:45they built a set with a staircase, so you can shoot up
- 26:47and down on different levels with a window.
- 26:50So you can shoot in and out. It's a very inventive designer
- 26:54and S, because this could be very box, standard could Who's
- 27:00the designer? It was Okay, he looks pure Pond
- 27:06right now in that suit. Absolutely.
- 27:12What's he doing? What's he going in there?
- 27:13He's for the astronauts fallen over.
- 27:16So Wiggins gone into lifting back up on the table but this is
- 27:21where we'll get another one of those.
- 27:22He's absolutely massively grown-up and chilling moments
- 27:28because the astronaut noches is Lennox.
- 27:32Oh, that's right. Yeah, this is just, I mean, this
- 27:35is where they show little shops gives Just a master class in
- 27:40tell you, there is something just so chilling about not
- 27:47showing us what's in there, you know, you know, you know me
- 27:51like, you know, like with a horror movie, what's scary is,
- 27:54what you don't see because when you do see, it is usually pretty
- 27:57disappointing. And my imagination stretches
- 28:01much further than the Prosthetics of a doctor who
- 28:05monster. It's it's just that sort of like
- 28:10Menace of them. Coming up the stairs with
- 28:12Dudley's score. I didn't actually see that will
- 28:15wobble dead, you know, I did but you know hey ho well even with
- 28:20the light effect, you see how they've shown a live for the
- 28:22bars and then it's got like a effect on the ceiling.
- 28:26Yeah, it's just very thoughtfully.
- 28:29Very fully realized oh this is great when you guys we don't
- 28:33need to get them off the radiation.
- 28:35We need to give them more more. He's great.
- 28:43This is great as well. This is they cut to finding the
- 28:46bodies don't and there's a very quick, dramatic car.
- 28:48Again, Yep. Then it's just superb on this
- 28:54isn't it. Mmm, sorry.
- 28:56What were you going to say? Then just have that whole thing
- 28:59of the Ambassador come up. The stairs for for Lennox is one
- 29:04of the things that really hooked me on the stories.
- 29:06Like I said that just know Dudley Simpson Doo Lu, Doo Lu
- 29:10ten, it's such a slow pace and it's the lumber and after women
- 29:13Lennox kind of, get out, you can't go any way to the top of
- 29:15the stairs with up Seto violence, only because the
- 29:18Ambassador runs out of rods and Falls backwards that he's
- 29:21actually, Saved. And oh, look at that food.
- 29:25They do the same sequence again later, don't they?
- 29:28But that's when the ambassador's revealed.
- 29:31Two lives. Yep.
- 29:32And is even scarier than that moment.
- 29:34We just had. Then, you know, I've got a
- 29:37question for you then because Do you think this could be four or
- 29:44five episodes long? It could be, let's say there's a
- 29:48lot that's kind of been stretched out.
- 29:51The question is, would you want it to be?
- 29:53I think you'd lose some of the complexity and you'd lose a lot
- 29:58of the character work. It would be all plot.
- 30:00It would be all it. We basically because of axons,
- 30:02which come on, where is this cake carrot work?
- 30:05Because there isn't any It's in the master Bill fire.
- 30:09Let's go find them in his hair. I don't know what you're talking
- 30:14about. Frasier know.
- 30:20What was the question because this be shorter?
- 30:22Yes. It's one of these ones.
- 30:25Where you think? Yes you've got pardon and this
- 30:27pattern throughout book. It's such good quality.
- 30:30Pardon what would you want to lose?
- 30:32Would you want to lose that tension in the first two
- 30:34episodes of A spaceship Doctrine and hazing action sequence in
- 30:40the warehouse, you know, the would you rather have just two
- 30:44policemen Nick? And yeah, your spirit has her.
- 30:49That's awesome. You could lose the bit with a
- 30:51bodies being buried, but it's, you know, you'd lose one of the
- 30:54most adult moments in the show. You could just drive the
- 30:58spaceship back to the unit, you know, you don't have to have any
- 31:01of this, you could cut so much out of it and you could get it
- 31:03down to sort of fall apart if you want to stuff with Lennox
- 31:05escaping in the cell. Cells.
- 31:07But that's really shocking. You could just have the, you
- 31:11know, go straight from being. We don't know who's doing this
- 31:13to its Carrington without the sort of, you know, sort of
- 31:17Double Bluff. But the entrance to that base,
- 31:20their looks just like the entrance to Stargate SG-1 as
- 31:23they go through a tunnel. Just like in Stargate SG-1 for a
- 31:26mountain. Only to sing again, though.
- 31:29Oh yes, bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb on.
- 31:34This is where it's like, dude. Which is also a nice shot of her
- 31:41ways are so they're hanging honestly, at this point though,
- 31:50direct people to go to YouTube and look for the gesture of a
- 31:53bitch. The doctor would be Simpson is
- 31:55Doctor Who yeah, Project B has transcribed, not only the
- 32:00students who didn't them buses. Think what he's done.
- 32:03And the flight of Miss Shaw shall be dr.
- 32:05Shaw Jess. But never mind.
- 32:06Hey. Done way more than just our best
- 32:09because he's done. Total scores are Well, she loved
- 32:14it looks to be Simpson, you know, go and see, Jess on
- 32:18YouTube because it's absolutely fantastic.
- 32:21Happiness. Leasher in Bessie being pursued
- 32:24down the motorway come, don't compare this to me, the similar
- 32:28sequences in and of the spiders, which is kind of all comedy
- 32:33Tramps and things like that, and stupid helicopters.
- 32:38So, we're back in the Sweeney again.
- 32:41Yeah. Lutely.
- 32:42It is that sort of like, you know, a 70s cop show Vibe of,
- 32:47but yet you, you get it in front of spiders.
- 32:50You you think where you got an episode of Pardon?
- 32:53But this is a different vibe do that because you really feel.
- 32:55This is like great assets of Pertwee and like well we're
- 32:59going to put the Koch's in but we're not going to give you a
- 33:01car chase. We're going to give you a
- 33:02quarter. He's underplaying Chase.
- 33:03Under the hovercraft is we're going to do gland are answered
- 33:07by an action sequence in a where yeah, with an amazing hat.
- 33:11I remember Erica Anderson from lazy Doctor Who when she they
- 33:17were going through early part way.
- 33:18And she was really criticizing the fact that there was like a
- 33:21lot of action and she just didn't, she just didn't have
- 33:24time for that. She wanted to sort of, to be a
- 33:27bit more dense. There's they plotted.
- 33:29But you know what? This is, kind of predated what
- 33:31TV is now? Because there will stop for a
- 33:34long action sequence on television.
- 33:35Now, what It is a very sort of like let some dicks thing.
- 33:42You know, you don't really see scenes like this again.
- 33:44I would say the of the Pertwee here.
- 33:47You don't really see you know, Sarah Jean going for a long
- 33:52Chase somewhere. If you'd like, interestingly,
- 33:55this we are was scouted by Carrie, John's brother.
- 34:01Oh yeah. Yeah, what was his name?
- 34:04Was it my mic? No, no, Michael, I can't
- 34:07remember now. I guess what I remember was when
- 34:09she left and Katie Manning came in, he played he played a joke
- 34:13on her in Terror of the autons and one of her first scenes and
- 34:16made her cry and jump it with tell him off.
- 34:21But apparently Caroline, John said that he wouldn't treat her
- 34:24with kid gloves. Yeah.
- 34:26And she had to tell him off and say, look you do your job?
- 34:28I'll do my job, get out my face, Do you not think though that
- 34:34that we're is a very dramatic location like it just feels
- 34:38urgent you know because of the Rushing Water it isn't it?
- 34:42So I don't know if art was you know running over from your
- 34:45life. Maybe is I would not choose to
- 34:46run across a we are but and the other thing is obviously that
- 34:50Kerry John is pregnant, she time, I don't think she told the
- 34:56production team that she was pregnant.
- 34:57Think that's was a conversation that had after infernal.
- 34:59When Bobby Let's was trying to break it or we're not going to
- 35:03renew your contract because you know, we don't think this
- 35:07character works in this scenario and she was like, well, I was
- 35:11coming to tell you I'm not renew me got back or something.
- 35:13Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:16Anyway, she's running across because that's not a nice sunny
- 35:19day that Rivers, quite high in that we are.
- 35:21And, you know, it's wet, she's built in the long, you know, in
- 35:25so finishing, I wouldn't do that.
- 35:26Now, I was both back then and it's a stunt man.
- 35:30Isn't it dressed up in the fabulous?
- 35:33Yes, it says, I think it's Royce come L who goes over we are.
- 35:39But I don't think apart from perhaps Lilo jumping through the
- 35:41window and talents working triang.
- 35:43You see, as good as stun from, like a companion, from the
- 35:47character, you know? Yeah.
- 35:50Sort of it's going through the wind and Remembrance host.
- 35:53Yeah, you know, you don't get, it's just, it's Unique as an,
- 36:00it's just very of of this Agent of this time and, you know, Bond
- 36:05create a mess do much, it's all just the Sweeney, it exists,
- 36:09it's exciting. And you know, I could just come
- 36:12outside question. I ask you a second ago is I'm
- 36:14going to answer it myself. I don't think I think like
- 36:19realistically. This could absolutely be
- 36:22shorter. You could probably tell the same
- 36:23story in five episodes for one. Let's Because it's so well done.
- 36:30And because the extra time is used really well to add a lot of
- 36:36substance. A lot of depth and just let a
- 36:38fucking action. I wouldn't want to, I want it to
- 36:42stay at seven episodes, there's not a scrap of this, I would
- 36:45want to lose. There's not one second of this.
- 36:47The way I would actually say I'll go put the kettle on now,
- 36:51you know, everything is just gold on screen at the minute.
- 36:54Well, let's see if we contradict that statement in episode 4,
