- 2:15hell is that? Yeah, I'm a little confused too. How do I
- 2:19you know? With the tail and all, I'm not your first am.
- 2:22I I mean I lay my eggs, then I leave and you release your
- 2:25fertilizer. Why couldn't you be the other kind of mermaid with the fish part
- 2:32on top and the lady bard on the bottom. Good news everyone, I'm
- 2:37back baby, it's right hit his tail's the future. I'm are exclusively here
- 2:54on the fourth figure Discamp patre On hind the Web. Today We're going to
- 2:58be reviewing an episode that I don't think I've watched since I usually bought the
- 3:00DVDs. It's the Deep South. I am Danna and I'm a poor,
- 3:05demented honky guy. Wait, sir, feeling pretty good actually in tea Why?
- 3:10Kind of like this episode of Futurama for multiple reasons, but one of
- 3:15them is a guest appearance by one of my favorite actors. Well, let's
- 3:21just jump right into it, Parker Posey playing voicing the character of Umbriel,
- 3:28the mermaid who hooks Fry by the heart and other organs. You might say
- 3:34she's a fantastic voice artist because she also voiced Becky in It's a Mad,
- 3:38Bad, Mad Bad Marge, whatever that episode was, whereas the one that
- 3:43sort of moves into Marge gets jealous of her when she wants moves into the
- 3:46Simpsons house because she was going to marry Otto and then he leaves her at
- 3:49the altar. She's just so good at making characters who you've never met before,
- 3:53but so likable and charming, Like you fall in love with Becky and
- 3:55I fell in love with Umbrella Umbriel, like this something a better voice.
- 4:00It's just such a lovely I don't know what's the word to describe her.
- 4:03It's so addictive, her voice. She's just an absolute sweetheart, which is
- 4:08precisely when I wrote here in my nose even before. I mean, I
- 4:11went into this episode not blind but just you know, I went in like,
- 4:14let's just enjoy the story and we'll find out a little bit more about
- 4:16it afterwards. And you know, when I saw the closing credits, like
- 4:20Parker Posey, oh my gosh, she's fantastic. But even before then,
- 4:24I was like, oh, I'm really just a sweetheart, just a just
- 4:29a you know, big on bowl of raspberry rumble. You might say,
- 4:31it's just delightful, delightful, And but I've enjoyed Parker Posey in movies,
- 4:35well, god, since the early nineties. I mean, I think starting
- 4:39with the great high School classic Days and Confuse, where she plays like this
- 4:42terrifying high school mean girl who nonetheless you're just, oh my god, be
- 4:46my girlfriend, you know. I mean, I don't get say the millennial
- 4:53slash gen said, you know, thing on social media about oh so and
- 4:56so I could run me over with a car. Yeah, it's like,
- 4:59but then I look at Parker Posey and Days Confused Ago, Yeah, I
- 5:01get it. I get it, And she is just one of those terrific
- 5:05actors who never really became or has not yet become like a huge star,
- 5:11but has that person sort of like recognition, like, oh, always happy
- 5:15to see Parker Posey no matter what she shows up in, and you know,
- 5:18usually just steals the movie from under the nose of the stars as well.
- 5:21So yeah, very happy that she was in the Deep South. She
- 5:26just was the cherry on top of a pretty nice episode, pretty pretty tasty
- 5:29ice cream some day of an episode. I thought, But she's such a
- 5:30good job with the umbre Old character that it's it's almost like a hill turn
- 5:33from fright the end when he leaves her, it's like she did nothing wrong,
- 5:36Like she she basically gave herself to him, and he was like,
- 5:40no thanks, and I'm like, Dick, She's like, I get,
- 5:45I understand why, I understand, But the thing is, I just still
- 5:49felt so terrible for her. That's wholly understandable. Yeah, he could have
- 5:55handled that a little more delicately, because yeah, sometimes everything falls into place.
- 6:00All the stars are in alignment except one particular one that's you know,
- 6:03kind of the biggest, brightest star. So it's important to have that compatibility,
- 6:09so to speak. But you're right. Yeah, I mean looking at
- 6:13Fries running well, I actually no that Sidberg doing that making that noise,
- 6:16but yeah, running off in that particular fashion or swimming off in that particular
- 6:20fashion, was like, my man, my dude, You've made some bonehead
- 6:26moves in the past, but this ranks up there with the with the bone
- 6:30headed, the most bone headed of them all, because you're as he's sitting
- 6:33in bed with it with Umbrell, there's that shot where she's like looking up
- 6:35at him and it's just like all these clevage and I'm like, god damn,
- 6:42But you're right this episode that's what mermaids are formed. I mean,
- 6:46mermaids are essentially there to lure sailors down into the briny depths. You know,
- 6:51I've got to do that by any means necessary. So they're usually sexy.
- 6:57But you're right, it's just a fun episode. It's one of those
- 7:00the crew go to episodes, right, I know, they kind of various
- 7:02planets, but they put a spin on at this time where they didn't go
- 7:04into space. They went to the bottom of the ocean. There's just something
- 7:08about as humans, we have this fascination with what's below the water. But
- 7:12the bottom of the ocean, what's down there, and the legend of Atlantis
- 7:15and things like that and the Mermaids, that kind of stuff like, because
- 7:17we've been to the bottom of the ocean, but there it feels like there's
- 7:19so many areas that have gone unexplored. Right, This was this was a
- 7:25fun way to delve into that. Yeah, absolutely, I have heard Now
- 7:28this was probably an exaggeration, a bit of hyperbole, but it sounded good
- 7:33when when I that we probably know more about space than we do about the
- 7:40oceans. Yeah, we've sort of been looking up at the stars far more
- 7:45than we have been exploring, you know, the depths and the breadths of
- 7:48the oceans on Earth. And I don't know, when you see some undersea
- 7:54footage or you're like, holy molly, look at those sea creatures or what's
- 8:00going on down the very bottom down there? Thank you Jim Cameron for all
- 8:03that footage. We are so bland and boring as a species. When you
- 8:07see some of the ship that's down there, isn't it. Oh yeah,
- 8:11absolutely, it's like, oh my god, the world's got everything in it.
- 8:13And then some yeah so yeah, ondred percent right, I mean,
- 8:18the ocean is just an incredible rich field of exploration. Yeah, so it
- 8:24was fun that the that the crew got to explore. Yeah, and it
- 8:28was just a fun set up as well. We just recorded our review of
- 8:31We're on the Road the Doughware fouring a discount and the setup was just such
- 8:35a boring it just felt like it went on forever. It just it was
- 8:39lots of filler with this one, like that they go in the fishing trip.
- 8:43I know, there's something about fishing like it's just it's kind of like
- 8:46when you know, you go camping. It's it's so it's a different experience
- 8:48of the real world. It's so separated from what from reality when you go
- 8:52fishing. And that's why I liked about It's just like the crew just out
- 8:54in a fishing trip, you know, just with each other having a good
- 8:56time. It's got its own set of rules and rigg elations. And I
- 9:00don't mean prescribed by humanity or some authority or whatever. It's just like you
- 9:05you have to adjust to the to the rhythms and pace and wherewith all of
- 9:09fishing you can't bend it to your will. It's like just you know,
- 9:15throw you throw your lure in the ocean and see what happens, or throw
- 9:16your lure in some water and see what happens. You can't make it happen.
- 9:20It's just got to like, Okay, well, I've got to surrender
- 9:22to the rhythms of the planet or the rhythms of the water, so to
- 9:26speak. Yeah, which is I don't fish. I don't. I think
- 9:33I may have done it once or twice and actually not fucked it up.
- 9:37But at the same time, I was like, there's a big deal of
- 9:39satisfaction that comes with that perfect cast when you sort of when your nail it
- 9:43as it goes, when you're like, fucking did it? I did it.
- 9:48I didn't quite I didn't quite get it perfect. I mean there are
- 9:52times when you know, it's like when you you do a perfect golf drive,
- 9:56when you just knock it off the team, you know, oh I
- 9:58hit that just and you can just yeah, that's a great feeling. I
- 10:05never had that with a with a fishing rod. But at the same time,
- 10:07I did not take my eye or anyone else's eye out with a hook.
- 10:11Yeah, so I'm pretty happy or eating I'm fuck up their intestines.
- 10:16That true. A lot of things going up fries. But in this episode,
- 10:20a lot of side of me going on. In this episode, I
- 10:24am taking back to going out on my dad's fishing boat when I was a
- 10:28kid. One of the things that I disliked about fishing was it took me
- 10:31a while to sort of learned how to cast. But there was always that
- 10:35fear of embarrassing myself in front of my dad, because my dad's just like
- 10:37my dad's hunter fisherman, you know, fucking outback jack, right, so
- 10:41he'd just do everything. Like I always just felt like a failure when I
- 10:45couldn't cast the rod, and I was just always this pressure of I've got
- 10:48to do it right. I'm gonna do it right. So when I eventually
- 10:50would do it right, I just felt so satisfied and I'm like, yep,
- 10:54dad saw me cast a rod. Good, I'm a man. But
- 10:56like there was no I'd only get it right maybe three times out of five.
- 10:58Like the other two times it's just like just tangled around the edge and
- 11:01Dad's like, just leave it, I'll sucking untangle it. I'm like,
- 11:05oh, I'm sorry, I've ruined the day. No. No, look,
- 11:09you're speaking about an experience that I imagine a lot of a lot of
- 11:11kids had, particularly a lot of a lot of male children have had.
- 11:16As listeners of the shows will know, I mean my my late old man,
- 11:20the late grad Bobby Davis was a footballer of some renown, one might
- 11:22say some some new Yeah, guy Davis was not. But you know,
- 11:33on the occasions when we'd go out and have a bit of a kick to
- 11:35kick, it was always in the back of my mind and sometimes in the
- 11:39front it's like, be nice to actually really roost this or just show really
- 11:45really perfect form with this drop punt, or even better a style that has
- 11:50now gone out of style, the drop kick. Now it's just known as
- 11:54now it's just an insult for someone you're gonna have a fucking drop kick.
- 11:58But by the way, I don't know if it's going to make it on
- 12:03the show. The Lovely Luise was just at my house dropping off some food.
- 12:07I was like, I'm just I'm just gonna distracted by something out of
- 12:11the window. It was a Lovely Luise because the reception, the reception is
- 12:15pretty ship at the moment, so I'm like, has he frozen or is
- 12:16he just looking at something out of the window. You bet, I'm looking
- 12:20at Suddenly I'm looking the most gorgeous woman in the world. Bring me.
- 12:22I think Nicholas supposed to be working. What's she doing here? What's she
- 12:24doing? But yeah, the drop kick. Yeah, now it's become slang
- 12:31for a person who's kind of a drop kick. But if you can do
- 12:35it right, oh, it's just a it's a beautiful thing to do.
- 12:37And I actually pulled one off once to the old man and then I was
- 12:43like, it's like, son, you're no drop kick. No, that's
- 12:48but I just mean felt this immense sense of pride because he looked at me
- 12:52like you might actually be relayed to me after all. You went like,
- 13:00how was how was was Margaret Mary when she had you in forties? Thirty
- 13:05nine? Thirty nine? She was close to it? Yeah, and you've
- 13:07always said that you were just like a New Year's every special way cher a
- 13:11happy surprise. We also had Donovan guest appearing on this one, not just
- 13:18Parker Posey. You know what was he on the sixties seventies? Donovan?
- 13:22I think, yeah, I think sixties, sixties and seventies. Yeah,
- 13:26there's always that that bit of bleed over, isn't there? But yeah,
- 13:28Donovan doing a I guess a bit of a riff on his famous hippie anthem
- 13:35Atlantis, which fit the episode very well. It did it did? I
- 13:39mean, I'm partial to Donovan. I mean, he's got a rappers,
- 13:43one of those sort of you know, very hey man life is great kind
- 13:46of seventies guys, but a lot of his music has been repurposed as kind
- 13:50of creepy. Didn't Scuse gives that song for a fight sequence in the movie.
- 13:56Yeah, I'm trying to remember which one someone's getting beaten up. I'm
- 13:58pretty sure Atlantis was playing with somebody's getting beatn up in a scores Agy film.
- 14:01It's it's in Good Fellas. Yeah, I think de Niro and ray
- 14:07Leotto and Joe Pesci especially are kicking the shit out of billy bats. That's
- 14:09right, tough break for billy bats, but also gets killed in front of
- 14:15he probably gets killed, and then that's brutal that it is, Yeah,
- 14:22because then it's a pretty nasty movie. I mean, so it's good Fellas,
- 14:26but yeah, I think Casino's even more kind of bit edgy. Yeah,
- 14:30But of course there's also the opening scene of David Fincher's Zodiac where he
- 14:35has gone. In the song hurdy Gurdy Man is used while the Zodiac killer
- 14:39is out of doing his thing. And that's like for a guy who's you
- 14:43know, sensitive singer songwriter guy, It's like a lot of these songs are
- 14:48creepy as hell. Yeah, definitely. Now a couple of facts about this
- 14:54episode before we get into our favorite moments and whatnot. Billy west Let's the
- 14:58voice of many characters in Future Rama. He turned forty eight years old on
- 15:01the day that this episode premiered on US television. Wow. Yeah, And
- 15:05now we get a bit of censorship information here. So a line of dialogue
- 15:09was edited out for an airing on Cartoon Network's Adults Swim when Professor Farnsworth exclaimed
- 15:15sweet Zombie Jesus. They left in him saying Jesus as in the visual of
- 15:20it, but it was muted out when he said the word Jesus, although
- 15:24yeah, the animation for the dial was left intact. In contrast, airing
- 15:26on TBS is Too Funny to Sleep Marathon, they would put the entire version
- 15:30in now where the episode was shown on Sky One in the UK, umbreel's
- 15:33line of I want you to make a merm woman out of Mermi before she
- 15:37has sex before I was muted out due to it being shown before the watershed
- 15:41hour, when more explicit sexual lines are allowed to be shown on UK television
- 15:43and also on Sky One. They also cut the scene of Bender, excepting
- 15:46the suitcase from Machety Guy on the jet ski Ah. Even though you know,
- 15:52you never really get to get an idea of what's in that. No,
- 15:56I prefer that. Yeah, it is same here what makes pulp fiction
- 15:58so good? Exactly right? No one knows what's in there to know,
- 16:02and he never did. He never did say it, though, did he
- 16:03Tarantino? He's never never did, because there never was anything. It's just
- 16:07he left it to your imagination. You don't know. I guarantee Tarantino never
- 16:12did he tell the actors what was in it. To pretenders, it's just
- 16:15like the coolest thing you've ever seen, Like, what how did he direct
- 16:18that? You know? Something I think I heard was it's Marcellus Wallace's soul.
- 16:26That's what they said. Okay, so then that's what that That's what
- 16:29the actors were told to think. They'll look. I think that's what the
- 16:30actors were told. It's okay, Oh is that what I think it is.
- 16:33Oh, everybody's suitably all struck, and you know everyone's desperate to get
- 16:38it. They'll get it back. Who is my favorite rolebot? It's me,
- 16:45No line out's fucking this mirror. It's all your favorite moments from the
- 16:49Deep South, mister Davis. I mentioned this a little bit earlier, so
- 16:53I apologize for jumping the gun, But every time Zoidberg to the I don't
- 17:02know, it's got a real kick out of that. For some reason,
- 17:03I only happened twice in the episode, but every time, I've got a
- 17:07big grin on my face. The whole Donovan thing I thought was grace and
- 17:11the fact that I actually gave Donovan a shout out within the episode itself.
- 17:14I mean, you didn't have to wait till the closing credits to go,
- 17:17hey, that's noted sing a songwriter Donovan and his unique brand of laid back
- 17:22folk rock. Yeah, I got a kick out of that. And of
- 17:25course, just any time that Parker Posey opened her mouth as as umbreel or
- 17:29umbriel as we as we like to say. By the way, you are
- 17:33throughout a little a few fun facts earlier, It's time for me to lobby
- 17:36one back to you. Do you know why Umbreel was called Umbrel? I
- 17:38don't know why, because Umbrel is one of the moons of Neptune, I
- 17:45believe, and so is Ariel, who is the name which is the name
- 17:49of the Little Mermaid the Riders the Future. I'm giving a little shout out
- 17:56to both a Disney cartoon and some astronomy. Yes, I mean they are
- 18:02geniuses, the guys behind Future. I'm so pretty clever clocks, They are
- 18:06pretty clever. I loved Bender trying to drink the alcohol. Are the laws
- 18:10of science? Be a harsh mistress? And when I love he had an
- 18:15eyepatch on as well that he has went full pirate when he went into that
- 18:18pirate ship. Yes, but I also loved when the colonel greets them and
- 18:21he just goes from from from from. Is there anything more intimidating than that
- 18:29music. Look, if you're out in there, if you're out in the
- 18:30swamp and you hear that music, I'm in strife here now, nasty ship's
- 18:36going to happen in the woods. Yeah, very very nasty shit. And
- 18:40also this moment may be the most relatable moment in the history of the show.
- 18:45From Professor Farnsworth, I'm bored, Let's go. I would love to
- 18:51be able to have the balls and the guts to be able to say I'm
- 18:53bored at this party. I'm out of here. It is one of the
- 18:56better things about getting old. Yeah, everyone's is like, yeah, you
- 19:00just lose your give a fucking impulses all on it. It's just like,
- 19:06no, I don't have enough time left on the planet for this. I
- 19:07mean, I'm just going to go. I don't think I'll find you people
- 19:10that interesting. I don't think this occasion is all that much fun. I'd
- 19:12rather gonna do what I want to do exactly right any more brain Busters?
- 19:18Okay, Blockbuster Brainbuster. Let's skim through this fromister Davis original at April sixteenth,
- 19:23two thousand. So how are you of the year two thousand? Can
- 19:26you remember many films that came out in early ish two thousand? April two
- 19:30thousand, we've still got Real Rules of Engagement. That's still number one.
- 19:33So that's still the number one of the US box office when this episode aired,
- 19:36but we got two and three to try and keep. They're pretty random
- 19:41films. I want to say one of them. I've definitely knew one of
- 19:42them. The other one I remember seeing the Post of four. I never
- 19:45actually saw the film. Well, here's the thing, I mean, yeah,
- 19:48we're just at the very start of I mean, they've always been franchises
- 19:53and sequels and things like that. But yeah, this was prior to Harry
- 19:57Potter kicking off a big saga like that and The Lord of the Rings.
- 20:00I think these were both the following years. So you didn't have many sequels
- 20:06and franchises and all that kind of business happening in the in the year two
- 20:08thousand as you did in later years throughout the twenty first century. So I
- 20:12don't know, it's it's a lot more a lot more of an open field
- 20:15this time around. So they need some clues, mister Dando, and you're
- 20:19you're pretty good with the clues. You're pretty good at sprinkling around. So
- 20:22the first clue, the clue for number two is alcohol, and the clue
- 20:26for number three is dama. Oh okay, then alcohol alcohol in a perfect
- 20:34world to be like a celebration of drinking. Clue. The story kicks off
- 20:38with alcohol combined with a limousine Starry Sandra Bullock. Oh okay, yeah,
- 20:45yeah, that third clues took us, took us right over the top.
- 20:48Because everyone loves Sandra Bullock America's sweetheart, of course. But every once in
- 20:52a while you got to try and show your range or show your range,
- 20:56and Sandy did that in two thousand with a movie called twenty eight Days,
- 21:02not twenty eight days Later, not the not the zombie movie, but twenty
- 21:04eight Days, which is where you how much time you got to spend at
- 21:07a rehab facility when you enjoy your booze or your illicit substances just a little
- 21:14bit too much fun. Fact early role for Viggo Mortenson, Oh there he
- 21:18goes thinks with Sandra Bullick is like I grew up with her being it's like
- 21:22a main like a main star. But it's like I remember her partner,
- 21:25like cheated on it or something. It's like some fucking tattoos like biker dude
- 21:27or whatever. I was like, are you fucking mad, Sandra Bullick?
- 21:32Yeah? It was. Actually his name was Jesse James. And whether he
- 21:34was an actual descendant of the real Jesse into the legendary the legendary outlaw,
- 21:41or this guy was just a pretender, because you know, you're right,
- 21:44he was a tattered up dude who could customize motorbikes. And he got a
- 21:49real profile boost because it's like, what's America's sweetheart Sandra Bullick doing with his
- 21:56rough trade? And I don't know if he already had a reality show,
- 21:59but he maybe got a reality show out of this boost. But anyway,
- 22:02cheated on Sandra Bullock. Fuck that guy, Yeah, same as Sny Twain.
- 22:06Schnia Twain's partner left her for like her old friend or something. I'm
- 22:08like, what, Johnny Twain, have you not? Have you not seen
- 22:14the video for Man? I feel like a woman. I'm sorry. She's
- 22:17got the man's shirts, scorched short skirt and the hat and oh my god.
- 22:21Scientists have said that her facial structure is like the perfect human being?
- 22:25Are you out of your mind? Not just scientists, Guy Davis said this
- 22:30not not not just beautiful, but look incredibly talented she did don't impress me
- 22:34much. I'll tell you what, sir, who cheated on Sny Twayne,
- 22:37You don't impress me much, not at all anyway. And the third one
- 22:40is dumber, dumber as the clue we're talking Jeffrey dumber, no dumber and
- 22:45Greg Oh Okay, then we're talking the actress Jennet Elfman, who's Doctor Flintstones'
- 22:51Viva Rock Vegas. Oh dad, because that is a good bit. It
- 22:56really is. I think it might be better than the one with John Goodman.
- 23:00Yeah. I showed Elliott recently and he really liked it. Yeah.
- 23:02Good Films got the Greg Gazoo. Oh yep, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha,
- 23:08gotcha because Jenna Elfman, Okay, Dama from Dama and Gregg is torn
- 23:15between two fellas, one of him as a priest, one of him as
- 23:18a rabbi. It's like the old joke, well maybe it's like a joke.
- 23:22I don't know. But the priest is played by Wood Norton, the
- 23:26rabbi is played by Ben Stella, and the movie is called Keeping the Faith.
- 23:30Not a bad movie. To the best of my recollection. It sounds
- 23:33like a fun Friday night a bit of popcorn watch it with you, missus
- 23:37movie. It kind of is. Yeah. I mean, I don't think
- 23:38I've revisited many many years, but remember when I was watching going this is
- 23:42fun frothy. It seems like the same kind of veins, like I know
- 23:47how to lose a guy in ten days kind of vibe. Is that what
- 23:48it's going for? Yeah? I think so. Yeah, which another perfectly
- 23:52acceptable romcom, How to lose a guy in ten days? Is great?
- 23:55If that's fine. Yeah, they're keeping the faith, yes, directed by
- 23:57Directed Maye wood Norton. By the way, Oh wow, I did not
- 24:00know that. Yes, the Rules of Engagement still holding strong at number one,
- 24:03twenty eight days at number two, and keeping the Faith at number three
- 24:06on the US box office when The Deep South originally aired in the US.
- 24:10Oh, I want to ask it a question, all right, So my
- 24:14first question for you today is when or what time his homie is going to
- 24:18be awake according to the clock on his neck when he's having a sleep.
- 24:22Damn it. Oh that's a good one. And I must have looked away
- 24:26when that happened, because I don't know. I'm gonna throw one out there
- 24:30and say one thirty pm at seven PM. I couldn't be more wrong.
- 24:34Yes, the sun was setting, He's going to be waking up at seven.
- 24:37Yet my question to you, then, my first question is what is
- 24:41Bender's call sign when he's making that deal that's blue Raven Because that was one
- 24:45of my questions. Not gonna lie My next one is what was the main
- 24:51article on the front page of Atlantic Monthly O? Bender was reading it.
- 24:55Bender was reading that when I were saying, where's Fry's where where's he going?
- 25:00And Bender's just sitting there reading a magazine. It's called Atlantic Monthly Letter
- 25:03Monthly. I do not know. Please give me a short fiction by a
- 25:07clam That's what it says. At what depth is the planet express ship when
- 25:15the meter breaks or when it breaks? Oh? Good question. I want
- 25:21to say three and a half thousand feet. If you double that, you're
- 25:23correct seven thousand, seven thousand. I thought that was I thought five thousand
- 25:30feet when it when they hit the bottom. I'm pretty sure when they when
- 25:33the glass shadows in it, it's like it's gone to seven thousand. Okay,
- 25:37what were they It was five thousand something when they hit the bottom.
- 25:40What was it? I think they can't go lower than five thousand, or
- 25:44at five thousand ill get crushed or something. They mentioned five thousand that's right
- 25:47here. So yeah, so basically they get at five thousand feets when they
- 25:49hit the bottom, because because leader says we're stranded three thousand miles, what
- 25:55it can't be five thousand feet must be most more. I must have sucked
- 25:57that up because she says we're stranded three thousand miles below the surface, so
- 26:03it must be five thousand. I don't know. I hope someone of the
- 26:07future am I got five for that blunder. We've definitely made a mistake with
- 26:11their notes. That's all good. We dared to presume we're smarter than the
- 26:15future Armor riders. Yes, all right, so let's get into a review
- 26:18of the episode. The original air date of The Deep South was April six
- 26:22and through thousand A production code two ACV one two, written by J.
- 26:26Stewart Burns, directed by Brett Harland, I guess Our Donovan and Parker Posey
- 26:30opening caption is a stern warning of things to come, and the opening cartoon
- 26:34in the in the in the intro well scrap Happy Daffy from nineteen forty three.
- 26:40So the episode kicks off with Planet Express crew at the HQ and Hermie
- 26:45stinks he's purchased a pet license for Nibbler, but unfortunately he's purchased a fishing
- 26:48license and it's mandatory. Very cute that both the Leela and Bender are picking
- 26:55knits, and that Bender's knits are the ones that end up on Nibbler.
- 27:00And then I wasn't a fan of hermis being so cruel about Nibbler love to
- 27:03toss a little bars and in a sack and like throw them into space.
- 27:06I'm like, come down, really doesn't like Nimbler. But they then go
- 27:11fishing. Of course, they fly show just over the exact center of the
- 27:15Atlantic Ocean. I thought the animation was quite odd in this. I just
- 27:19noticed how the water was like its own thing. Did you notice that how
- 27:22it was sort of like it's like computerized the water or something. It was
- 27:25weird. I seemed to recall that animation wasn't doing that at the time that
- 27:30either and either water was the hardest thing to animate or the easiest. But
- 27:33yeah, for a while, if you're watching an animated movie or TV show,
- 27:37they were really messing around with the water, and it always looked a
- 27:40little bit uncanny. It's like you're either too real or not real enough,
- 27:44but you're out of sync with the rest of the animation. Yeah, it
- 27:47was just so different to everything else that it just stood out a lot.
- 27:48But they fly over international waters, of course, So I've been to receives
- 27:52a package. Guess what your accessories to. Have you ever been an accessory
- 27:56to something unwillingly? I'm sure I have. But something happens you're here.
- 28:04I'm just not telling anybody about that. My son the sea air good friends.
- 28:11Lelah's right, fishing blows. What do you say? We make it
- 28:14interact thing cool? Everybody kicking five bucks? Yeah, wasn't that interesting?
- 28:21Bender? I could never be a scammer. I just don't think I've got
- 28:23the temperament for it. And Fry says, I'm you know you're in trouble.
- 28:26Bender. I've once got a fish this big and obviously been it does
- 28:30the extended arms. I'm got to fish this big. It's one of the
- 28:32old classic fishing tails. I've got to fish this big. I think when
- 28:36you're a kid, what age has become no longer cute? When you go
- 28:38my fish was this big, It's like, oh, how cute? This
- 28:41fish wasn't that big? But you know, he just let him think that.
- 28:44Like when you're a teenage you're like, I've got a fish this big.
- 28:45It's like, piss off, mate, Now you didn't. It's like,
- 28:48and your dick is this big? Yes? But then Leila says,
- 28:53you know You're in trouble, both of you, because I'm a woman who
- 28:56owns her own harpoon. Bender mock sash if she throws the harpoon in hes
- 28:59bum, then Hermi's he's wearing his speedos and he's going through his different baits.
- 29:03We got squid and crickets and chicken necks and zooberg office. He's critiquing
- 29:08skills. He does indeed and gets right in there. I think the night
- 29:12roll has got five stars. M Yes, definitely, indeed and just treating
- 29:17like a seagull get out of here, and then it does the sound like
- 29:18you're saying, kind of like the Three Stooges. Then Bender shows off his
- 29:25laser guided fishing rod and fry says he's being too loud. I think that's
- 29:29actually a think it'd be too loud to scare away the fish is a thing
- 29:32you think you can really I think it'll be more like, hey, I'm
- 29:34throwing rocks in the water. That would that would scare away fish. But
- 29:38I'm being too loud now, I think that's silly. But Bender then hits
- 29:41a ship between the eyes, which is of course fry le than harpoons a
- 29:45boot. She thinks she's got something, but it's just the boot. So
- 29:48this is where you go shopping for your boots. I'm like, what a
- 29:49zinger? That is pretty good. I mustn't if you can. That's right
- 29:55on target. The perfect thing for Amy is that she plays the dumb girl
- 29:59so well that she can get bibe of saying things like that, n acting
- 30:02oblivious, but really she knows. She knows. Then Fry catches a really
- 30:07small fish, which is a perfect for a fish nugget style chocolate as he
- 30:11calls it. What the hell's a chunkolate? Have you ever had a chunkolts
- 30:12before? I never, I've never heard of that. Actually, I mean
- 30:15I kind of like the sound of it because there's just a chicken bite or
- 30:18something I reckon. So yeah, I mean I keep saying those ads for
- 30:22like the Hungry Jack's Chicken don't whatever. They don't get it. They're not
- 30:26good. My uncle Darren, who I think listens to this podcast, he
- 30:30got it last weekend, And you're right. You see the pictures, You're
- 30:34like, I'm going to try that. That looks delicious, and they show
- 30:38me the picture and it, no, shit, looks like just your classic
- 30:41processed chicken from any fast food place. I'm like, that is not what's
- 30:45in the picture. Okay, Well I'm just I'm fine. I'll go and
- 30:48make my own. I'll go to the supermarket and I'll get some nice chicken
- 30:52wrist and i'll make Sometimes you can't make chicken if you make it home.
- 30:53Sometimes you just hit that sweet spot and just tastes fucking amazing, you know.
- 30:57Oh yeah, yes, I'm going to That's night for dinner. I
- 31:00think you've just sold me on that. Then Bender hits fry again for any
- 31:04small intestine with the hook and leader catches. This is actually great gag.
- 31:07It's twenty times heavy than any boot, ten pairs of boots. You knew
- 31:12it was coming, but it was still funny. Professor then shows off he's
- 31:17fish. Pheromone and Zoiebergs are so into him. Good a good kick out
- 31:21the oh my, but the zoidberg what do they call the what's what's their?
- 31:29The Decapodians is what they called. I think the squid things on the
- 31:33face. Just just think that he's raised in general, Yeah, just the
- 31:36way they the way they show emotion and kiss each other, it's just like
- 31:38fucking gross. One doesn't want to think about fish and sexuality. It's cut.
- 31:47Yeah, it just coliches up all manner of just gross and slimy images.
- 31:51I mean, the least with animals a kind of like yeah, I
- 31:53can sort of yeah, that kind of makes sense. I mean they're all
- 31:57moving parts, but eggs and fertile those are and all that kind of stuff.
- 32:00Sorry, we're skipping to the end, but no, it gives me.
- 32:02That gives me the Wiggins that he be jeebies but fry then catches are
- 32:07pretty decent fish and benders throws in the towels. That's it. I'm not
- 32:09going to catch anything. If I'm not going to catch a fish, then
- 32:12might as well not catch a big fish. And he steals Amy's umbrella and
- 32:15he had and he uses the diamond the filament tether I think it was,
- 32:20and it belonged to Professor's grandmother. That gave purely to set up the fact
- 32:22that it's unbreakable. And because like that would be like the first thing people
- 32:27would ask if they didn't set up the fact that this this line was unbreakable.
- 32:30It's like why did that thing drag a ship under water? But anyway,
- 32:32he uses the man which is bait, and we get the of course,
- 32:35the man which gag the son is now setting Amy's sunburnt hermy, He's
- 32:40gonna wake up at seven. Leather is still going for it, though she's
- 32:43very determined. There was another element to this story we haven't touched on yet
- 32:45that I feel like they wanted us to believe that Leather was disappointed that Fry
- 32:51was jealous at first that he's going with his mermaid, but then also really
- 32:53sad and disappointed that he's not going to be coming to the surface because she's
- 32:55into him, without actually saying it, because she was like what about us?
- 33:00Yeah. Yeah, they may have been a little too subtle with that,
- 33:01because it's not something that really sprang to mind while I was watching this.
- 33:06I mean, maybe that's something to do with the fact that Umbrell was
- 33:08just so done adorable. It's like, yeah, yeah, it's more like
- 33:12a missed opportunity than oh yeah, everything's back to normal. Yeah. It
- 33:16wasn't necessarily like just beauty design wise, it was just Parker Posey's voice could
- 33:21make you fall in love with anybody. Seriously, She's just so sly.
- 33:23Yeah, and then Leader's got something. It's alive this time, but it
- 33:27turns out. It's just another boot that's being held by doctor Zoeberg. He
- 33:30was eating it, so she said, that's it. We're giving up,
- 33:31We're going home. Amy wakes up. She's incredibly sunburns, but she's got
- 33:35a honkive. Bender is great on her back because uses I remember went to
- 33:38schoolies so it would have been two thousand and six, and my mate did
- 33:43this with his phone number on his back, so when he walked around school,
- 33:45these people would know his phone number. It did work. It is
- 33:47a good an idiot. I think that's still a pretty decent attention grabber.
- 33:54Yeah, it's a good strategy, yes, but it's almost like I feel
- 33:59like girls would just like I add a spite not doing it. I don't
- 34:04know, but because when he fasted, I was like, pretty clever idea.
- 34:07Yeah it's not a good idea, but it's a clever idea. Yeah.
- 34:14Leither then says pulling your lines and they realize that Bender has hooked a
- 34:16colossal mouth bass and you can't do a fishing trip without catching the giant fish,
- 34:22can you? Like? They do it the symptoms he catches General what's
- 34:25his name? General? It was a general Sherman. General Sherman. That's
- 34:29the one. Yes, he goes by the name of Hammer, but yeah,
- 34:36yeah, it's a great one. But I'm drag the ship under the
- 34:38water. Zoiber tries to save them by cutting the unbreakable line. Doesn't work.
- 34:42At least he's going to die with his friends that they're all bailing on
- 34:45him. This is the thing, though, why did Zorber care he could
- 34:49just swam? He lives in water. Why why was he worried? Why
- 34:52why was he going to die? You can live in water, He's fine.
- 34:58And then this is another gag that does really it raises more questions and
- 35:00it answers. He's so Hermie's speedos rise to the top of the water,
- 35:06right how how? Oh? Yeah? Oh yeah, Like he got into
- 35:15the ship when before they went under the water. Did he open up the
- 35:21latch when he went under the water and throw his undees out? Like?
- 35:22Why? M But there that's one for the ages. We we're at five
- 35:29thousand feet one hundred and fifty atmospheres worth of pressure and you know, not
- 35:32gonna go well because the ship can only handle one And then they hear a
- 35:37sound and when if you're underwater and in some like submarine, or something like
- 35:40that. And to hear that kind of sound, you're like, uh,
- 35:44oh, wearing some strife right now. And Bender says, there's someone bending
- 35:47some girders, and everything starts smashing, including Professor's glasses and the little clocks,
- 35:52and Bender's eyes start smashing. Then the pipe start leaking. They said,
- 35:57we're gonna have to release some pressure. How we're gonna do it,
- 35:59and prices up back in a minute, much as the toy that comes back
- 36:01saves the day purely by accident. That was a good gay. That was
- 36:05a pretty good gay. That's one of the scariest things about you know,
- 36:07the sea though. I mean, first of all, it's like when you
- 36:10can drown, it's unforgiving. That that's the yeah, the first and foremost.
- 36:15But then it's like if you gonn deep enough, it'll actually crush you.
- 36:19Yes, it's like anything anything scarier than than the water is fire,
- 36:23true, because like at least some of water, if you drown, it's
- 36:27like it's going to be somewhat painful and terrifying, but it's terrifying. And
- 36:30then all of a sudden, peaceful, peaceful fire, you are burning to
- 36:34death. Like I don't think there was a worse way, Like would you
- 36:37rather be eaten by a shark or burn to death? There is there a
- 36:40third option. I'd go with the shark. I think, yeah, I
- 36:45felt the shark. You would die way sooner, way quicker. Yeah,
- 36:49but fire. Also, if we're taking death out of the equation, there's
- 36:54a chance you could like pull a Mick Fanning and like poke a shark and
- 36:58they are punch it on the bottle and maybe maybe make a get away.
- 37:05You can't punch fire. Believe me, I've tried it. We realize here
- 37:07the fish has got away. It's far worse than they ever thought, and
- 37:10they're stranded three thousand miles at the bottom of the ocean. Campers are wearing
- 37:14thin. Let's just hope some robot doesn't kill everybody. The important thing is
- 37:19that we're dought panic. There are rules for situations like this. No,
- 37:22the first order of business is lunch. I suggest a nice loves the Zoidberg
- 37:28I mean Lobster Newberg, I mean doctor Zoidberg. This is the kind of
- 37:31thing, though, like I don't know, imagine me in a situation where
- 37:35it's like, all right, guys, we just need to just throw it
- 37:37on the table. Cannibalism may be a thing here. May you have to
- 37:39become an option. Who's going first? And Leila says that Zoidberg and Bender
- 37:45they can survive in water, so they can go look for food. Fri
- 37:47says, I better go too, because they don't know what I like.
- 37:51I also do that when like I'll be like with friends or whatever and they're
- 37:53going to get like macas or CAFs, I better go just in case they
- 37:57get the wrong thing. I want to get what I like and what I
- 37:59like, I'm just gonna go. I'm going to come just to make sure
- 38:01amateurs are just going to go. You give us five big macs and a
- 38:06few quarter pounds, like, there's so much more to explore. Professor then
- 38:12says, you know. He offers Fry his experimental anti pressure pill, which
- 38:15is a suppository that looked painful. Yeah, you wanted to be a little
- 38:21more streamlined and maybe a little less sizeable. A lot of things going in
- 38:25the butt this episode. They're out collecting food, Fries doing okay, just
- 38:29it's like a garbage bag almost. He's getting his air out of and Bender
- 38:34he jacks on with the electric eel and Zoiberg eats the lot. What are
- 38:37these fish called. They're scary fish at bottom the ocean with like the light
- 38:38bulb. Oh Alie calls him the nightmare fish. Let's go with that.
- 38:46I think that's appropriate. They are terrifying. Yeah. It was really disappointed
- 38:51though, because they had that on the pamphlet of the Melbourne Aquarium. But
- 38:52I actually have one. They have like a display kind of thing about one.
- 38:57So Ali was so looking forward to seeing a nightmare fish, and then
- 38:59he did see one, is all he can complain about. It's like,
- 39:01no, no, I'm like, it's a twenty four gator right there.
- 39:05There's not a nightmare fish. Dinosaur kids, get it. I'm gonna throw
- 39:09him with the with the croc. Yeah, then you get a nightmare exactly
- 39:15right. Yeah, but yeah, you know, Zoidberg runs awa from,
- 39:19runs away from the fish, hides in a shell. Look at me,
- 39:21doctor Zoidberg, home owner. And they come across the pirate ship. Careful,
- 39:27fry, I think that flag might be poisonous. Ah, Hi,
- 39:30maybe I shan't hide us some hardy grub a the lies of science. Be
- 39:40a hish mistress, say Roberts, old buddy, because you help me move
- 39:45a couch okay, but I'm might carrying upstairs. Then this is a great
- 39:50animation. Gag. I'm not moving anything upstairs, and they both just like
- 39:53this, step into this shell and just disappearing. It's like added the scene
- 39:57for a minute. That's what that was funny, the way they handled that.
- 40:00This is where Umbreel arrives and Fryers can't believe it. Imagine seeing a
- 40:02real life fucking mermaid. He'd like, what the hell I know? Blow
- 40:06your mind? Yeah, and he tries to explain it to the water what
- 40:08he's seen. Lemonade, big parade, shouldn't learns have been repaid and now
- 40:15fry We cut to fry over the dinner table and he's still babbling, take
- 40:19the swally your food and then speak because I'm an out full of dinner.
- 40:23And nobody believes in that he saw a mermaid. They think he's crazy.
- 40:28And then you know, he says, there's plenty of crazy crazy things to
- 40:30sit at the bottom the as look at Zoeberg and that's another aspect of the
- 40:32other episode as well. Zoyberg was just setting up house. He's just like,
- 40:36all right, this is life now, and fucking gold for it.
- 40:37You know, he was right at home. He should have just stayed there.
- 40:39They should, I know, his house band should have set up another
- 40:43place. He was love a life down there, but he would have been
- 40:45lonely, of course. But anyway, Leila says, that's now it's ocean
- 40:47madness. And I feel like they wanted this to be a thing but just
- 40:51didn't seem to work with me. Like I know. Oh, I think
- 40:53they were trying to make it into a into a thing, trying to make
- 40:57fair chappen, but it wasn't wasn't quite hitting the mark. But I'm frying
- 41:00storms out in anger. You know, maybe ocean madness, but that's no
- 41:04excuse for ocean rudeness. Now, was he putting a lot of He was
- 41:08like trying to put oxygen in the suitcase before. Not quiet. So he's
- 41:13in the bedroom. This is the first time we see the quarters of the
- 41:15of the Planet express ship the bedroom and umbrella to plead to the window.
- 41:17She says, come outside, So he just tries to slam so as much
- 41:21air as possible into a suitcase. That's right, that's hilarious. And then
- 41:24she gives him the device to breathe as they call him a breather in Atlanta.
- 41:29Here you go, darling. Hey, I can breathe and talk just
- 41:35like a fish. Oh you speak fish? No? No what, I'm
- 41:39sorry? My accents atrocious. My name's Umbria. I'm fry. So am
- 41:46I gonna drown? Of course not. Just stay calm and let the general
- 41:51currents relax your every muscle. Oh yeah, did he just get warmer?
- 41:57I can't believe you're really real. I like your tail. Oh you're sweet.
- 42:00I like those weekly duo dads coming out of your hips. Oh thanks,
- 42:05they're called pants. This here's a volcanic fan. The water comes out
- 42:09at over four thousand degrees No kidding? Did it just get colder? Tell
- 42:17me more about that bizarre landing world you come from. Is there water there
- 42:22too? Sure? Sometimes it falls from the sky and sometimes it doesn't.
- 42:28Oh, mister Fry, you do go on. You know what I like
- 42:31best about you, Umbriel? You find me fascinating, even when I'm not
- 42:35claiming to be a jewel fief for a lion teamer. Lions. There are
- 42:38sea lions on the land. Yep, we call them land sea lions.
- 42:43I team them. We get the montage of them just hanging out having a
- 42:45great day together. Whilst Atlantis by Donovan plays in the background. It was
- 42:50it was the perfect song for the moment. I think, yeah, it
- 42:52really was both in terms of thematically because of the I wanted to see Kingdom
- 42:57and all that, but just the rhythms of it are really a magical This
- 43:00is the magical world he's just discovered coming in soothing exactly right, you know,
- 43:05even if they are watching a whale and the squid battle to the death,
- 43:07that was pretty coold. All was missing was but I love that they
- 43:13had their little flags for for each side. Yeah, and then they're obviously
- 43:15writing the sting ray as well, and he writes I love you with like
- 43:19the light up electric fish or whatever. And then Professor Farnsworth has upgraded the
- 43:24ship's propulsion system, which we find out what it is a little bit later.
- 43:28Later asked where fries and Hemie says he's out looking for that mermaid probably,
- 43:30and she reiterates ocean madness, and I was like, yeah, this
- 43:34isn't really sticking, but you're trying. You're trying your best appreciate it.
- 43:37But they say we're gonna have to go out and try and find in the
- 43:39all and need oxygen in case of emergency, my ass is a flotation device.
- 43:44And then Professor reminds me of that. Reminds Professor speaking of asks about
- 43:47the pills. Yes, yes, we've insard of them. Don't worry.
- 43:51Then Zoiberg sniffs him out. There's another question, right, So they go
- 43:54out the pressure area of the ship and they use the pills, but they
- 44:00come back in. They're never wet. Oh, I didn't really notice that.
- 44:05Like FRI's hair always stays on, like up and things like, it's
- 44:08like their hair, their hair is never affected by being wet. It's like
- 44:12it's weird because you can breathe underwater, doesn't mean you're not getting wet.
- 44:15Wet, but the eagle eyes of Dando folks. But they go outside and
- 44:20Zoberg stifts them out where the water is getting warm, and they go towards
- 44:22it and they discover who could it be? Are the old legends true?
- 44:27It's the lost City of Atlanta. It's a nice reveal plos City of Atlanta.
- 44:35Yes, it's really well done the way they've handled all this. Yeah,
- 44:38incorporating real life world with the future. But also I guess this is
- 44:43futuristic because there are spacip under the water in that sense. But I know,
- 44:45like it doesn't feel spacey, does it. This episode feels more.
- 44:51It feels like a fantasy. It feels like a fantasy in the venture down
- 44:52under the Water. Yeah, So the colonel greets them and bend it does
- 44:55a deliverance music. It's hilarious and it gives them all breathes. They can
- 45:00breathe, and Professor says he wants it to be a suppository instead fascination with
- 45:02the with the asses and now the Colonel says that the tourism is their main
- 45:07source of income, so please spend all your money and please don't leave.
- 45:10Then Fry rocks up with Umbrell and Bennetts. I knew you, I knew
- 45:15you'd be alive. Are you ten dollars? Hermes? And then he introduces
- 45:17Umbriel to these Yankees, and Umbriel she's she's in denial. I guess maybe
- 45:23she's not in denial, but she's just been confused as to the true history
- 45:27of Atlanta, isn't she. Oh yeah, she thinks Atlanta was on the
- 45:30same level as Paris and New York. Welcome from It's a bit of a
- 45:36bad bit of a bad rap for Atlanta, which is apparently a very nice
- 45:38place. WHI was a lovely place. Yeah, but they do love taking
- 45:42the mickey out of various locations around America in Futurama and New Jersey. Yeah,
- 45:49I mean there are certain American cities, if you've grown up watching US
- 45:52sitcoms, certain places get a bit of a nudging or a bit of a
- 45:55sledging, And yet Jersey is one of them. Cleveland, there was a
- 46:00city was always sort of traders a bit second, right, I don't think
- 46:02I've ever heard of Atlanta getting a bad rap before. Luckily Donald Glover came
- 46:07to the rescue and did four seasons of the show called Atlanta that I think
- 46:10rebranded is like, no, it's actually pretty cool. Join. Then they
- 46:15show off the video that talks about the history of Atlanta, voiced by or
- 46:20narrated by Donovan. Atlanta was a city landlocked hundreds of miles from the area
- 46:25were now called the Atlantic Ocean, yet so desperate the city's desire for tourism
- 46:31that they moved offshore, becoming an island an an even bigger delta hub,
- 46:37until the city overdeveloped and it started to sink. Knowing their fate, the
- 46:43quality people ran away Ted Turner, Thank Adam, Jeff Foxworthy, the guy
- 46:49who invented Coca Cola, the Magician, and the other so called gods of
- 46:53our legends, though gods they were, and also Jane Fonda was there.
- 46:59The others choose to remain behind on their porches with their rifles and one day
- 47:05evolve into mermaids and sing and dance and ring. In the new they put
- 47:13a Ted Turner statue down, which is a gag that just feels very dated
- 47:15now. It really does. Yeah, but for a while, their Ted
- 47:20Turner was at the synonymous with Atlanta and particularly you know, his Cable News
- 47:22Network scene and then which we get a really nice funny visual gang where they
- 47:27refer to it as c Sea n He kind of kind of visit out,
- 47:30didn't The old Ted Turner kind of did. Although I imagine he's probably sleeping
- 47:36on a well it's Ted stor with us think Ted Turner passed away? Did
- 47:39he not? I believe so, But I'm pretty sure up to all his
- 47:43final days he was sleeping on a bed full of money. No, says
- 47:46Ted Turner. You know he hasn't passed away. I apologize, Ted Turner.
- 47:50He's still alive. At the ripe old age of eighty four, or
- 47:53keep at it, keep out of Ted, and you know he's probably living
- 47:58the high life somewhere down in the South. Good on him, Ted turning
- 48:00nearly single handley, I say single Handley. He funded it, put Vince
- 48:02fit Man out of business. He started his own wrestling company WCW, which
- 48:07is where he had the Evil Hulk Hogan and all those guys rocked up and
- 48:09they were based in Atlanta, Georgia, and nearly did it, but then
- 48:13due to poor, poor management, mismanaged. They spent a lot of money
- 48:16and went making enough back in return, and it went out of business and
- 48:19got brought out by Vincent Man. But yes, teens always gets the upper
- 48:24hand. And the Ted turn of statue was put down in Atlanta caused the
- 48:27island to be overdeveloped and it sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The
- 48:30main people, like the celebrities that the rich left on on a lifeboat,
- 48:35and the rest chose to stay and evolve into mermaids. And due to the
- 48:37caffeine speeding things up, they were able to evolve into mermaids very very quickly.
- 48:40That stuff's wonderful. I was about to say benders, sort of calling
- 48:45out the chronology take millions of years. Yeah, we're now having dinner at
- 48:51Colonel's. And I liked the nickname for Fry old Legs here calls him legs.
- 48:57He's growing on him and herms. He knows. Yeah, it's lovely
- 49:00what you got here. But I do miss my wife and the oxygen.
- 49:01No, yes, we all love We all miss our loved ones and our
- 49:04gases. The Fry decides that he is going to stay. He's staying.
- 49:07I really can't believe it. You know what she said, why would you
- 49:10want to leave? Why would you want to stay? You're gonna miss us?
- 49:13And Professor says that if you don't come with us, you do realize
- 49:16that your body will adapt to the pressure and you can't return to the surface.
- 49:19But I've realize it. I don't even understand it, stand it.
- 49:22That's a perfect Fry line, It really was. And Zoberg he's got a
- 49:28place just outside of town. Can you can visit sometime? And turns of
- 49:30the colonel. Colonel's this given. No, He's like, I want to
- 49:32get to the country club. I love it. They're very nice about the
- 49:37South, but they're realizing also these guys might be pretty racist. I think
- 49:44it's a country club. I love the idea of being a part of a
- 49:45country club, but I wouldn't buy into the whole exclusivity where it's like,
- 49:49you can't do this and you can't do that. Cause I live in a
- 49:51state here and they have their rules, and I'm just like the fucker.
- 49:54I pay my money, I'm doing what I want. You can't tell me
- 49:57I can't part my car at the front of my house. Fuck yourself.
- 50:00They're like, when we first moved into this estate, one of the rules
- 50:02specifically said you cannot park a ute at the front of your house. And
- 50:07it is not It's got to be a saddan sidan or a family vehicle,
- 50:13got to be a ute. And I'm like, you can't tell people what
- 50:15vehicles they can park their house. They probably would pronunce it saddan sad.
- 50:22Yeah, I'm sorry. From paying my damn money, then, yeah,
- 50:25I'm not handing over my heart and they have more rules imposed on me.
- 50:30No, it's kind of why you get money in the first place, so
- 50:32you don't have to follow rules. See see that footpath at the front of
- 50:36my house, that's all cracked. It hasn't been fixed in six years.
- 50:37Fixed that first, then I'll move me you. But yeah, so he's
- 50:44not allowed to go visit Zoieberg and bend it. I like the Bender was
- 50:46genuinely sad here. It wasn't like a fake sadness. He was just really
- 50:50sad. He's gonna misfry. And then they right back to the ship.
- 50:53Nobody cares that they're going to be as Zobeg staying as well. I kind
- 50:55of feel bad for Zoiebeg there as well, my home throwing down. Oh
- 51:02how did this happen? That's a very good question. So that's where I
- 51:08left my cigar. That just raises further questions. Umbrella then wants him to
- 51:14make a murder woman out of murder me. That's what she says, and
- 51:17fries getting the vapors. He jumps into bed, Brah flies away, boobs
- 51:22galore, and he realized that he can't have sex, like I should be
- 51:24that other kind fish part on top and the woman on the bottom. I
- 51:30mean, it would be better sexually, but I don't think it'd be more
- 51:32appealing to look at fry Fry showing a distinct lack of imagination, he shall
- 51:37we say yes, it's what did you think Fry was gonna happen? What
- 51:42do you think was going to happen? Fry? You know, just enjoy
- 51:45a little surf and turf. Yeah, I just felt so bad for She's
- 51:46like, oh, he's gonna don't even know what that means. She's just
- 51:49I feel so bad for He's gonna take me to the debutime ball and he's
- 51:51like that young duke one from making. But I'm like, poor woman,
- 51:54like she just like as he said, Parker Posey just makes her so lovely,
- 51:58an appeal of healing. And he's just like, we're the best for
- 52:00her because she never fucks ever. Fry, she just she gave her all
- 52:02to him, so she opened up. She's just incompatible. She took him
- 52:06in and then she was just like perfect. He was perfect foreign and she
- 52:08just dashed and fried and a rise. At the ship, he realizes they're
- 52:13leaving like the tail on the back of the ship. That's the change that
- 52:15Professor has made to get out of there. And he grabs on to the
- 52:19giant hook callback and it gets dragged out and of course another callback we get
- 52:22the basses returned yes Man, which arrived in the land and bends being offered
- 52:29a thousand dollars for catching the breaking the record for the heaviest fish or whatever.
- 52:32Then Fry falls out of the mouth along with the man, which it's
- 52:36all coming full circle, and you know, he said, well, what
- 52:39about Umbrell? I loved her, but I wasn't in love with her.
- 52:43Trouble, and we all had a moment where our friends have said something and
- 52:47I'm like, yeah, I know what you're saying, but I know what
- 52:50you really mean. Yeah, we're all good at subtext here. Yes,
- 52:53I won't, I won't, I won't mention it. I know what you
- 52:55mean though, And unfortunately, because Fry and the man which are fallen out
- 52:59of the mouth of the back, the weight has gone down and now Bender
- 53:01is not getting his thousand dollars, so he's choking Fry. Meanwhile, Zoidberg
- 53:05is now living inside the bass opens up the girls like a blinder. I'm
- 53:07trying to sleep Venetian blinds. If we get Donovan saying hey or Atlanta just
- 53:13before they're closing credits there and Yeah, just a fun episode, an episode
- 53:16that I don't think I've ever given enough love too that I loved this episode,
- 53:21but I definitely enjoyed. I remember when I watched this Originally it wasn't
- 53:23one of my favorites for some reason, but I've recatched now I'm like,
- 53:25yes, maybe because i've I would have watched this before i'd had my first
- 53:30like true love and things like that, So I guess that aspects more appealing
- 53:32to me now. Yeah. Yeah. Plus, you know, look,
- 53:36it's a pretty good episode in a lot a lot of ways, and it
- 53:38is just given a bit of spike into occasional greatness or much more enjoyability by
- 53:44the presence of miss Posey as as Umbrell. I think, yes, definitely.
- 53:46All right, guys, well that is our review of the Deep sol
- 53:49If hope you all enjoy it. Thank you for you support here on the
- 53:51Fourth Finger Discount Patreon. Next episode on Tails the Future, we are reviewing
- 53:55Bender gets made a bit of it. Maybe I think this is a Good
- 53:59Fellas parody, Oh is it? I think it's just the Mafia movie in
- 54:02general parody. He becomes part of the Mafia. But Goodfellas is kind of
- 54:07like the premier Mafia movies. So once again, the unified theory of four
- 54:10Finger Discount holds steady. Yet, because we are also recorded the most recent
- 54:15episode of four Finger Discounts where on the Road. He doesn't in that episode
- 54:22as well, folks, and oh, it's just a joy to hear.
- 54:23It's like having a little jug of warm honey being poured into your ear.
- 54:30But they mentioned Atlanta in that one as well, so you know it's all
- 54:32connected. It is connected to end. All right, guys, we're out.
