- Lucas: Okay, Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. You ready for something a little different today? Luna: Yeah, I'm ready. What are we doing? Lucas: So, instead of drilling phrases like we usually do, I'm going to tell you a tiny story. A very short scene. And as I tell it, I'll drop in some Malay phrases that we've already learned. You just listen and react. Sound good? Luna: Ooh, I love stories. Yeah, let's hear it. Lucas: Alright. So, picture this. It's early morning, maybe around 7 am. The sun is just coming up. And you walk into a small bakery. The smell of fresh bread fills the air. Luna: Oh, I can almost smell it. Okay, I'm there. Lucas: The baker is behind the counter, and he sees you. He smiles and says, 'Salam.' And you smile back and say, 'Salam. Selamat pagi.' Because it's morning, right? Luna: Right. Salam. Selamat pagi. Good morning. Lucas: Exactly. Then the baker asks, 'Apa khabar?' — how are you? So you reply, 'Khabar baik, terima kasih.' Fine, thanks. Luna: Khabar baik, terima kasih. I remember that from our very first episodes. Lucas: You got it. So the baker nods, and you point to a loaf of bread. He wraps it up, hands it to you. You pay. And as you turn to leave, you say, 'Selamat tinggal.' Goodbye. Luna: Selamat tinggal. That's the one you say when you're leaving, right? Lucas: Exactly. And the baker replies, 'Jumpa lagi.' See you again. Luna: Jumpa lagi. I love that one. It sounds so warm. Lucas: It is. So that's the whole story. Simple, right? Let me tell it once more, all in one go, with the Malay phrases. Just listen. Luna: Okay, I'm listening. Lucas: You walk into the bakery. The baker says, 'Salam.' You say, 'Salam. Selamat pagi.' He asks, 'Apa khabar?' You say, 'Khabar baik, terima kasih.' You buy your bread. As you leave, you say, 'Selamat tinggal.' He says, 'Jumpa lagi.' The end. Luna: Aww, that's such a nice little scene. I feel like I was there. Lucas: Good. Now, I want you to try being the customer. I'll be the baker. I'll say my lines, and you respond in Malay. Ready? Luna: Uh, ready. Let's do it. Lucas: Salam. Luna: Salam. Selamat pagi. Lucas: Apa khabar? Luna: Khabar baik, terima kasih. Lucas: Perfect. Now you're leaving. Luna: Selamat tinggal. Lucas: Jumpa lagi. Luna: Yes! I did it. That felt so natural. Lucas: You did awesome. See how those phrases just fit into a real situation? You don't have to think about them as separate lessons. They're just things you say. Luna: Exactly. And I noticed we recycled all phrases from earlier episodes. Salam, Selamat pagi, Apa khabar, Khabar baik, terima kasih, Selamat tinggal, Jumpa lagi. That's everything. Lucas: Yep. No new phrases today. Just practicing what we know. And you nailed every single one. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I love that we didn't add anything new. It makes me feel like I actually own these phrases now. Lucas: That's the goal. Repetition with context. So whenever you go to a bakery — or anywhere, really — you can use these. Luna: I'm definitely going to try that. Maybe I'll write my own little story later. Lucas: That's a great idea. And if you do, share it with us on the Fexingo community page. Luna: Oh, there's a community page? Lucas: Yeah, at Fexingo dot com slash community. You can find other learners and share your stories. Luna: Nice. I'll check it out. Lucas: Alright, that's all for today's episode. Thanks for joining us on Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Yeah, thanks for learning with us. Remember, practice these phrases in your own tiny stories. Lucas: And we'll see you next time. Jumpa lagi! Luna: Jumpa lagi!
