Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Hey guys, welcome back to Skin Anarchy.
- 0:02SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited about our episodes today because we're gonna be talking a lot about some very important topics that are near and dear to my heart personally, but also our guest has such an amazing, you know, place that she's coming from in the space of what I like to call clean living and mindful living, and especially the way that we're consuming beauty products and wellness products.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: So without me ranting too much, I'd love to introduce you guys to Kelly Kruger, who is an actress, an entrepreneur, and the founder of Madison Charles Oil.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: So welcome, Kelly.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited to host you.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Hi, my goodness.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited to be here.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: A big fan of your show as well.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: So this is really exciting.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's it's an honor to host you.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, I'm glad that you have such a versatile career and background, you know, and I feel like that's so it really reflects in what you've created in your line.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna talk about that with you because I have some of my own personal testimonials, you know, to give you um about that.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: But I'd love to learn more about you, Kelly.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: If you could kind of walk us down memory lane and tell us about, you know, your acting career and everything that led up to creation, like, you know, creating Madison Charles and yeah, all the good stuff.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I was born in Montreal.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So I'm Canadian.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: I knew that I wanted to be an actress from as for as long as I could remember.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Um, I had a pretty difficult childhood and I I used to use film as like an escape.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And I used to kind of watch the same movies over and over, go up into my room, reenact the scenes.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And it was such a it was such a great escape.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: But more so than anything, I found I would turn to film and television and you know, actors that I admired to help me through like my hardest periods.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And I I always said from a very young age that at some point that's what I wanted to do with my life, which is, you know, help anyone going through a hard time, whether it's through a role that I create where, you know, a character starts in a very dark or low place and then has the arc and wins at the end, or, you know, just by what I could do with my life, somehow just have impact, especially on young girls.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: So I basically barely finished high school, like just my the year that I was graduating high school, I came out to LA.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: I have an aunt and uncle who live here.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And I was just coming to kind of see what opportunities might be here.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I was registered for what we call CJP.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It's kind of a junior college in Montreal.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And I came out for the summer and was approached by Elite actually to come and model, which is something I never wanted to do, but I used it as a stepping stone to basically just pursue my career as an actress.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And I, you know, I started on The Young and the Restless, and that was just such an incredible boot camp.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And not only just it's it's it's soap fans are unlike any other, first off.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: To this day, the reason why Madison Charles is possible is because of those same people.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: They follow you forever, they are loyal, they are just they become this just giant family.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: So I started on the soap, and being on a soap opera versus any other medium is it really is boot camp because you are filming, you know, 80 pages of dialogue a day versus on a primetime show or a film, you're doing maybe like 10 a day, right?
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: So, so it's just uh an incredible place to start and a pretty, but it does throw you into really instant fame in that world, right?
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, at a very young age.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So all of a sudden everybody knows who you are, especially then soaps were a very big deal, much bigger, obviously, than they are today.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: I remember watching, I remember watching Young and the Restless like religiously.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Like I used to watch every day.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I mean, I think I watched very early on, like you know, I was pretty young at the time, but like I remember my mom and I both used to sit down and be like, no, this is this is Young and the Restless time.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, like we need to watch and that's that's the beauty of being on a show like Young and the Restless is that it is a way for like parents and children, they watch it together, grandchildren, grandparents, like it's generational.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: What's so cool today is that the people that I have part of my community, you have the grandparents, you have the the the daughters, and then the granddaughters, they're all like, Oh, my grandmother watched you, and or my mother watched, you know, whatever it is.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And it it's such a it's such a like it's the only medium that really brings entire generations together.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: It's it's very powerful.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I love that.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: I love that you said that because it is it also it like I don't know, it's like really like kind of like girl time.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Like I whenever I think about like moments that you spend with like your mother, like what you were saying, your mother, your grandmother, like a lot of it is tied to things like that.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Like soap operas are a huge part of it, I feel like for a lot of people, you know, like that exclusive time.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know what's so cool is when I was little, I used to go to summer camp, like a sleepweight camp.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'll never forget.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I'm talking I was super young, like you know, under 10 at this point.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: And you know, I had a friend who her mom every week would send her soap opera digest.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Like, what is this?
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: She's like, Oh, I I need to know, I need to know what's happening on my soap.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I can't miss.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And I remember being so impacted by that.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Like, there was a fan who was so dedicated that she couldn't go a summer without having weekly recaps.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: And so then years later, when I ended up on the soap, I was like, wow, this is so interesting.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Like, people are so invested and you're in their living room every single day.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: And again, this really goes back to having an impact on, you know, whether it's you're watching with your mom and you guys are just having that quality time together, or maybe you're going through something and that's your escape for that hour a day.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Or maybe there's a storyline that's motivating you or inspiring you in some way, or you're relating to, or it's helping you, or, you know, and so it's more so than the idea of acting, as much as I love the craft of acting, I love breaking down a script and I love, you know, getting into character.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: I love that part of it.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: But I think for me, it's really the outcome of what that creation does for people rather than the act itself, if that makes sense.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love that.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, I feel like, I mean, especially if you're filming so much, you're you're constantly immersed.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, I what you said really kind of that hit home with me because I feel like in medicine, I mean, I've experienced that in my own career where it's like when you're doing something so much, you know what I mean?
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: And it's such a huge part of your life where this is this is your career, you know, you do this like day in and day out all the time, it becomes so much more than just a job, you know, it becomes ever it becomes a lot of things.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: And and I feel like, you know, so much stems from that, right?
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: It's like all of I'm sure all of the feedback that you probably got from fans.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, how was that in terms of shaping like the you know what you did next in your career?
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm sure you took a lot away from that in that regard.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Well, it's interesting because the first round, so I was very young the first time, and I was a recast.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: I took over for someone, and as you know, as someone who watches or who watched Soaps, yeah, people don't really welcome recasts very, very tough world.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: It is really hard.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: So the first time around, it was sort of like 50% of the audience absolutely despised me, and 50% of the obvious uh audience loved me, people who didn't like the original actress who portrayed Mackenzie.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So that was it interesting in learning about this.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Is obviously well before social media and just learning about how to handle, you know, public, I don't want to use the word hate, but you know, uh opposition or whatever.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Like people who are, you know, what we call today keyboard warriors who just will just say anything and they don't realize that there's an actual person there that, you know, is is is actually receiving this.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: But so that was my first run with it.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: And then I started moving on to other mediums and noticing that those same people were following me to these other mediums.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, if I was doing a guest star on criminal minds, it's I would get, you know, emails from people saying, oh my god, well, you know, whatever it was.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Like, so the same people would follow me to if I had a Hallmark movie, it's just it's the same people following and supporting and championing.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: In 2014, I was auditioning a lot.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: And it was like at the point where I was getting really close on things, you know, I got a movie here, and and then you're just sort of waiting around for auditions, and you're waiting around for, you know, first you need to get the audition, then you have to get the callback, then you need to wait for the producers to decide that the you're the one that they want.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: And then from there you have to go to network and from network studio, you know, there's so many people deciding whether I get to have uh an impact on people today, whether I get to make a difference, whether I get to do my passion.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: So in 2014, I just got fed up and it wasn't very popular to do a blog.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: To it was very unpopular for an actress to have a blog or to post on social media about beauty or fashion or or anything like that, because it was considered very cheesy.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Like if you're an actor, you're an actor.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: If you're an influencer, you're an influencer, right?
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's yeah.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: So I started this blog and I was like, I don't care because I have a lot of knowledge about I battled with acne.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: I battled with acne while I was at the, you know, on TV every single day with loads of makeup.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I I understood I've always lived very healthy and very clean just naturally.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Like my body just naturally rejects things that later on we find out are bad for us.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's pretty cool because I'm very sensitive.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: But I also paid attention very young.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Like I remember when Cheryl Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was talking about how she was really certain that it was due to the to leaving plastic water bottles in her car, them heating up, and then her drinking the water and all the BPAs and everything.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: I was very young and I remember thinking, wow, you know, I have two dogs.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And those two dogs, Maddie and Charlie, which is Madison Charles, they prior to them, my ex-partner had a few dogs that had passed away from cancer.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: And I kind of correlated.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I was like, I wonder if the water has something to do with that, like the the how the piping and whatever.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: So I started only giving those dogs filtered water.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: And I started really cleaning up what they ate because they were my life.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So funny enough, like they became as interesting as you might think.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Like, of course, Madison Charles, you know, Maddie and Charlie were my my everything.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: They're no longer with us today, but Maddie was a pug who lived to be 17, and Charlie was a boxer who lived to be 14, which is pretty unheard of, like, especially in the you know, those are that's very long.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, that's really good.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: That's amazing years.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: And I I had always said if I started a line, I would name it Madison Charles because I love the name, but also to honor them.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: But really, when I really think back to all of this, it really is like they were the epitome of health and clean living, right?
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: So so I started this blog and I started sharing, you know, products that I love that work for me because my whole mentality was if I could save someone time and money, like my whole thing to this day is let me try it so you don't have to.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: I'm trying every product so that I could bring you the best of the best and let you know what actually works.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: I am gonna share all of my journeys with you so that you don't feel alone as and I I realized, and I and I'm gonna be very honest, I had a lot of people make fun of me for this.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: A lot of people who I would say, Hey, could you just support me on social media because I'm trying to get some brand deals?
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: And if you could just leave an emoji because engagement is important, and like friends would not even help me because it was like cheesy.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Wow, you know, that's yeah, that's lame, by the way.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Honestly, it was really disappointing.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: And I would hear people kind of make fun of like blot my blog and just like how cheesy it was, right?
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: For lack of a better word.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: And I just saw like I had this vision of like, if I could help one person, that was that's part of my why I do anything, right?
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Is is I want to help people.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: So if I can help one person who's battling with something that I might be battling with or that I might have gone through, well, then I'm doing what I was put here to do.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Do you know what I mean?
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, that's that's really powerful though, because you said a couple of things.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: I want to actually touch on that because uh, you know, this is such a good opportunity to share with our listeners because you mentioned, for example, like your journey with acne, right?
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: And I feel like I'm very passionate about this when it comes to actors, because I look at you guys and I I all kind of try to see the other side of like the glitz and the glamour.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I've always been like that.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: And it and it because I feel like people are so quick to look at celebrities and be like, oh, well, you guys are just, you know, you get all of the best treatments, your skin is amazing, everything's amazing because you have all this access to all this stuff.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: But then it's like you like, why don't we ever talk about the fact that exactly what you said, like you're putting on makeup, like you know, every single day.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: You're being harsh on your body, you're doing things that are going to actually need maintenance, you know what I mean?
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: And because of that, you go through and you have to end up you end up trying things, right?
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm sure you've had to like try different products, whether it's makeup products or whatever it was.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: And and that really does, I mean, it leads you to this place of like curating.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: You've curated through your acting career a lot of the things that work and that don't work.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: And I think that's awesome.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: You know, that's a really good resource.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: So the for the people who were making fun of you for having a blog, you know what I mean?
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: That to me is moronic, you know, because it's like I would take advice from you any day because you've actually had to use this stuff, you know, and you've had to use products and you've had to find what works and it not just for your own lifestyle, but for your career, you know, and it's it's I think that's so crazy to me that they weren't supportive because it's well the fans were.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about more people in my life.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: The fans were super supportive, they were so excited to have, you know, insight, it's insight and access to that.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: But the but I'm talking about more like people in the world.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the friends and the fans.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: The fans were have always been amazing and they've been so receptive to anything I try.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: They're like there supporting me.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: And that's what's so beautiful about this community and why I love social media so much is the the interaction and the direct feedback, especially with the oils, which I'll get to in a second.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: But just to touch on that, sometimes you'll be on a set.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: And and also when I was very young, I didn't understand ingredients, right?
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Like I didn't understand that if I'm putting talc on my acne-prone skin, that's clogging my pores more.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: I didn't understand that I might be allergic to fragrance that's making me break out.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Or there's there's silicones, or I didn't understand.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So the research that I had to do to get to the bottom of, you know, it's also what you're putting in your body.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: What are you eating?
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: What are you allergic to?
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: What, what, what, how often are you washing your pillowcase?
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: How often are you, you know, how are you, what are you washing your hair with?
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Like there are so many things that go into acne.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: How are your hormones?
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Are you imbalanced?
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Are you, you know, and there's just it's not like a one size fits all.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: So having done all this research and really I met with this, I started going for for facials when I was trying to really just fix this problem with my acne, right?
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: And it was this woman who was, she made all her own products, she had this tiny little space, and her mom was a breast cancer survivor.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: And she started explaining to me about our endocrine system and just how certain ingredients, what they could do, and how they how bad they are for us, and and how you know I might be reacting to let's say the the the fragrance or whatever it is, right?
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: And it really got me interested as somebody who is a pretty bad student in the school, it really got me interested in the science behind things and the ingredients in things.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: And I started really learning to read labels.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: And people really don't think about that.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Sometimes people with acne will literally just like I did, go and load up their skin with acne products that are ridiculously drying and then they're overdrying their skin.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: So their skin's producing more oil and in turn they're breaking out more.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: So it's really about understanding, and again, it's not a one size fits all, but if I could share this in a place where I could give people options and and help them, and I'm doing it for free, you know, it's it's such a gift, right?
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Um so so yeah, so that was that was an interesting thing.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: And I just I continued, I you know, I I stuck with it because well, Aim, my now husband at the time, who's my boyfriend, he was incredibly supportive and really just was like, keep going, keep going.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I worked for free for a very, very, very long time in that world, right?
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: I would go on sets and I would always do behind the scenes.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: And again, it wasn't cool.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: It wasn't cool to vlog, like it just wasn't a cool thing for actors to do.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: And so I wanted to kind of bring the world of beauty slash uh you know, blog social media to to actors.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Because remember, the mystery behind an actor's today, obviously, you have to have social media and you have to be connecting with your audience in order to be successful.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: But back in the day, the more privacy the better, because the more people believed you in different roles, right?
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: You didn't want to reveal too much of your life or your personal life when you were an actor because it could prevent you, prevent the audience from seeing you play different roles, right?
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: It's like the overall image.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: So I just didn't care.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I was like, whatever.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: So you're you're gonna, you know, I don't know.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: I just I kind of just because my why to be an actress was very different than my friends or the people around me, I just really stuck with it.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: And years later, I was trying to conceive my first child.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I assumed that because I, you know, was completely healthy, regular periods, like everything that I was just gonna get pregnant.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: I just assumed that that was gonna be me.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: And when it didn't happen right away, I freaked out.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Not understanding too that like happening right away could mean like within the first three months.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: But for me, I was like, if it doesn't happen the first time, something's wrong.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: And I and I think like the guidelines now are like, you know, it's like a year if you've been trying for a year and it doesn't happen, you know, that's when you need to go to your doctor because something's wrong.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: But I didn't know that.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: So I just assumed, oh, I'm just someone who's just gonna get pregnant.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think a lot of women do, yeah.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: And so I went down this crazy rabbit hole, and there was a book called It Starts with an Egg.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: And it explained that you could change the you cannot change obviously the number of eggs you have, but you can change the egg quality.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: And that stems from complete lifestyle.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: So that's what you're eating, that's what you're putting on your skin.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: That is all lifestyle.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Your egg quality is directly related to your lifestyle, and then your endocrine system and the way your body obviously is operating also is directed to is directly related to your lifestyle because, you know, even stress and hormones, it's all it all coincides, right?
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a huge, huge, and this is something that I'm very, very, you know, I was like being in medicine, I'm very passionate about the endocrine system, as weird as that sounds, because no one wants to discuss the this topic really at its root, which is the idea that every single organ system, every single function and mechanism in your body is going to be impacted by your hormones.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Point blank period.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: There is no exception to that rule.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Like it's and that's where this concept of, or not even concept, this topic of endocrine disruption, the fact that it's now coming up in the beauty and wellness space is so intriguing to me as a scientist because I look at this and I'm like, okay, well, it's about damn time, you know, that we're talking about this because there's women in the south who've been using hair products for, you know what I mean, like I don't know, 10, 15 years.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: And they did they did these studies where like they were using these, you know, ridiculously preserved products for a prolonged period of time.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Every single one of those women ended up with fibroids or endometriosis or something really, really critical.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: And, you know, and now we're coming to a point in the beauty and wellness industry where people are like, oh yeah, you know, endocrine disruptors and people are talking about it like a buzzword.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: But you know, Kelly, it's not a buzzword.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: It's not, it's a real thing that impacts everyday women, you know, everyday people.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Like you can't like that.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: This is one of my biggest, you know, pet peeves, I feel like, with this stuff.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: It's like, this is real, you know, and it's it's very, very old.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: It's been around for a long time.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: So I'm glad that you're I'm glad that you're bringing this to the forefront, actually.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: This is very important.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: You know, it's also interesting that that you're bringing that up too, because you know, I talk about, you know, when I brought up the water thing, right?
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: That that that that's been a big thing because that is, of course, an endocrine disruptor.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: Those BPAs and that that plastic, and you heat that and those chemicals, like that is affecting your health and your overall, like it's affecting your hormones, it's affecting all of it.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: My grandmother, there was never a meal that she ate that wasn't home cooked.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Like her, and it was, you know, European cooking.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: And as a child, I used she was very influential on me.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: And my mom raised me that like it's better to have natural than it is or to have fresh than it is to have canned or packaged.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Or and so I think I just naturally just it's just kind of been ingrained in me.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: But I'll be honest, like, my grandmother had such an impact on me.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, waste way I'm telling my mom today, don't do this, don't do that, you know?
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: But but but just the the how to cook, you know, we cook, I cook every single day for my children.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: And I know that's not realistic for a lot of people.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: And and and I understand that, but you know, I was talking to someone the other day, she gets up at 5:30 just so that she could prepare her meals because she understands the importance of that.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: So if it's important to you, you will make the time as hard as it is.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Um and look, some people don't care.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Some people are just like, you live once, like, enjoy your life.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: If it ends early, at least I enjoyed it.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Like there are there is that mentality, and that's totally fine.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: I just could tell you that from a personal standpoint, I have physically experienced, you know, I have a gluten allergy, which I feel like everybody has a gluten allergy to today because our gluten is so the gluten, our bodies are not meant to digest, right?
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: No, they're not.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's not just gluten anymore either, Kelly.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: It's you know, it's like they've got so much crap in these products now.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: So much and the glyphosate and all the things.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: And you know, I used to be tired all the time.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: Like I couldn't function after a meal.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: And I will say, when I took gluten out of my diet, is when my acne cleared up.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: And because it's so inflammatory.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I was seeing an acupuncturist who, you know, it's it's interesting how she did it.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: She she didn't tell me what not to eat, she just told me what to eat.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: And after a certain amount of time, I realized what wasn't in my diet.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: And she cleared up, she balanced my hormones, everything was freshly cooked, you know, everything, she wasn't having me have anything packaged.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: She wasn't having me, it was so interesting.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: And then I went to an allergist, and that's when I found out that I actually am, in fact, allergic to gluten, wheat, like all the things that she took out of brewer's yeast.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: She told me not to drink wine.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: And I said, Oh, okay.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Like I knew I was always allergic to red wine, but she took out white wine.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: I'm allergic to the brewer's yeast.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know that.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: But all of these things were causing my acne.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: And then it is like a matter of, you know, for some people, like you can pick your poison.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: Like if you want to, you know, it's not about I happen, I'm a Scorpio and I'm very like black or white.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: There's no grief for me.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: So, you know, so to some people, this is I am very, I don't even want to use the word annoying, but there's like a lot of a lot of opposition because it's like, you know, it's too much.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: But it's like at the end of the day, what's important to you, right?
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: For me, having energy, feeling good, having a clean body, having not even just like physically, but it's like, you know, when you do have, let's say, something like acne or eczema or some kind of inflammatory skin condition, you get go through these experiences and you're like, so, or you don't want to leave the house without makeup because you're just insecure about your skin.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Like it doesn't, it doesn't feel good.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: And I know people with like crazy cystic acne or, you know, just bad skin conditions that they don't even want to go out like to dinner because they're just feeling so low about the way they look, right?
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: It sounds, you know, vain or whatever, but it's the you know, you're you you do it does affect you.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: You it becomes like something, especially when you're constantly being judged.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: You know, for us as actors, we're always on screen, we're always being ripped apart, you know.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: People will sooner want to like criticize, not my fans particularly.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: I'll just I'll say that, but in general, I just got very lucky with you know my career so far in that respect.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: But you know, it is uh you see on social media, it's just it's hard.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, you know, I kind of want to take this opportunity for a segue into your oils.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: Oils I love your oils, and I love that you have so many because there is a real reason that this works.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: And I and I want to put this out there for all of our listeners because I'm a huge believer in aromatherapy.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: I always have been.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: I was the kid that was in the metaphysical shops, you know what I mean, when I was like 19 years old, looking up all the crystals and looking up, you know, like all these crazy things that people talk about.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: And I remember very early in my life, and my, you know, I suffered my whole life with depression and anxiety.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: It was a never-ending battle.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: And I remember one of the first times where I felt relief was when I tried something through the power of sense, like, you know, the smell sense and the and the sense of smell.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: And when I tried your oils, I was, I fell in love with it because they actually do help you.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Like there's a real calming property to the ones that I really ended up loving.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: And that goes such a long way because it's not just like, okay, you do it now, because I think we've fallen in love with that, you know, instant gratification culture of like, okay, this worked for five seconds and then it's just not gonna work later on.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: What I loved is that I can put this on my wrists, I can put it behind my ears, and it's something that's gonna soothe me for like literally for hours throughout my day, you know, and it's constant and it's not in just something I have to ingest.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, let's talk about your oils.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: Where did you come up with the concept for the So yeah?
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: So, so so when I was trying to get pregnant, I learned about the the I we really segued off that, but I learned about the egg quality and everything.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: And one of the main, one of the main things is fragrance, right?
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: And synthetic fragrance.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: And so I realized that, you know, I used to wear perfume and all everything was sent, but I did have an allergy to fragrance in general.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Um, I was shooting a movie and I got sick.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: My co-star and I both got sick.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: And my makeup artist happened to be in a room with therapist.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: And so she handed me like all these oils, and I could, we ingested some of them, you know, the safe ones.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: And I couldn't believe that I was working 14-hour night shoots with what you would usually put me out in bed for a week.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: I was had energy, I it was relieving my symptoms, and I was like, oh, this is pretty interesting.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: And I still had, you know, trouble with my skin, acne, whatever.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: And so she was like, oh, I'm gonna roam a therapist.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you the oils that could help with that.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: And so I said, okay.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: But at first I was a little skeptical.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: I was like, wow, this is incredible, but I still was skeptical.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: I got off the airplane that same trip from working and I had a headache.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: And the driver who was picking me up at the airport said, Oh, I have this essential oil from France that will help with your headache, which by the way, lavender typically doesn't help with headaches.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: But me being, you know, me, I was like putting it on my Instagram story to show that my driver's making me inhale something and I wanted to make sure that I was okay.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: But I was like, that's kind of weird that I'm getting sort of, you know, oils.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: And then I get off the plane and he's suggesting oils.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: And I said, okay, maybe I'll look into this.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: And then I get back from filming the movie, and my sister-in-law, who is a yoga and Ayurveda specialist, said, Oh, oh, I've been getting into these essential oils.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: I really and I was like, Okay, I need to take a look at this.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: This is crazy.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: This is like being slammed in my face that clearly essential oils is something I need to look into.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: So I started using them and just making blends for myself.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: And and when I was trying to get pregnant and it wasn't happening, I was starting to eliminate all of these endocrine disruptors.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: So I refused to use anything with fragrance.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: I had to find a perfume.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: So I would put make a roller that smelled amazing.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden, you're getting these therapeutic benefits.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: And I was like, this is this is incredible.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: And, you know, sleep issues, or my I remember my my now brother-in-law, he came to town and he was laying on the ground with my dogs and he started having a horrible allergy, was sneezing and it got congested.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: And so I put together which is now our breathe roller, and I just like put it together in a roller and I put it on.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: And 10 minutes later, I was like, How are your allergies?
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: He was completely, they completely subsided.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: And so I was like, There's something to this.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: So I started just making oils for my friends, my sister-in-law, who was the original, you know, she helped me start the line.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: She would, she was more of a specialist in the field.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: So she would help me come up with, you know, recipes and and blends that would work.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: And I would, and I would just start, I just started getting really nerdy and becoming my own version of a scientist.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, cool, this is and trial and error on my friends and my family.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: And then when I was on my journey and it wasn't happening, I we got tested, everything was fine.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: The only thing was, speaking of fibroids, I had a a seven-centimeter fibroid.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: It wasn't preventing me from getting pregnant because it was not in like blocking anything, but it definitely does affect somewhat.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: But I did have a huge fibroid, which we could talk about at a later date of like just how that affected my pregnancy.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: It was like I was carrying twins.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: It was very painful.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: That was something I really tried to bring awareness to.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: But I created a fertility blend and I started using this oil for the first two weeks of my cycle.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: And two months later I was pregnant.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm not saying that it was because of the oils.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying that.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: A lot of things just happened at the right time.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: And I really believe when a baby's meant to be here, they're gonna be here, and that's that.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: Like I truly believe that.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: And I believe that, you know, it was a combination of things, but it was a hormone-balancing blend that I truly believe had an effect on helping me get pregnant.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: And I remember making a pact that I was, if I could help one person, so I said, okay, you know what?
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna just put it on my blog.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: And if one person benefits from it, great.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: I did not expect anyone to buy them.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: I just put the five initial blends, which was Sleepy, it was Immunity, it was Breathe, which was the allergy one, and what was the other one?
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: I think it was anyway, it was this.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: I forget what the five original ones were, but I launched them for Christmas and we sold out in one day.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: And by the way, we're talking, I went on Instagram live and I was explaining, you know, what everything was, and people, of course, were skeptical.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: And at that time, too, you know, we're going 2018, December of 2018, you know, this whole like holistic living, like people didn't really believe in well, can essential oils really do that?
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: But because of my support system of these fans and this community, they supported me and they bought them and we sold out right away.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: And then what started happening is people started using them.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: And I was getting DMs of people going, Oh my gosh, my autistic child that has been getting migraines and been on medication for years, your oil helps.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: Your oil helps with my anxiety.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Because for me personally, like I could say I've battled with anxiety for since I was, I had my first real panic attack at 22.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Um, it is so debilitating and terrible.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Um, and they've done studies now.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: My uncle is a Western, and I say Western purposely, purposefully, because you know, a lot of this stuff is, you know, to certain doctors.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: It's not well, actually, I'm gonna go back and say he sent me an article recently that proves this is in scientific studies that has proven that our brain reacts to scent and can effect effectively change due to to aromatherapy.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: Yes, so it does actually affect us.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: But if you start researching and go back to ancient Egypt and go back to early times, what did we use for medication?
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: Oils, essential oils, right?
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so so this stuff works.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: And you, you know, so people were like, you know, people who've been on sleep medications and all all of a sudden they're using our sleepy roller and they're sleeping the best they've ever slept.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm getting messages from people and I'm sobbing, crying, reading these messages because I'm like, oh my gosh, like this is actually helping people, this is actually like making a difference in their lives.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: And so not only are they getting rid of their toxic fragment, because even if it was somebody that was not interested in the therapeutic benefits of it, it was like, hey guys, the calm, calm was one of one of the five.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: The calm was my first.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I'm I'm obsessed with this smell.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: This is my everyday perfume.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: I keep this on me.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: The benefit of it is, oh, well, guess what?
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: It's actually boosting my mood and it's keeping me calm and helping with my anxiety, right?
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love calm, by the way.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: That's a really good one.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Is it great?
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you probably you probably love Zen because Zen is I I was gonna say Zen next.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: That was like those two are amazing.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: I love them.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: So Zen is actually our most concentrated oil and it is designed specifically.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: I I don't know even if I could say this.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, we're but it is I call it my liquid Xanax because it truly is.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: At this point, I have friends with massive anxiety, they don't even have to roll it on anymore, they just open it up and smell it, and they're relaxed, right?
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: And I remember when I did get pregnant, I I, as someone who has massive anxiety, I had to fly to Canada to film a movie in my first trimester when nobody knew I was pregnant.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I got to Canada and the time difference and the nerves of starring in a movie and all the things, I couldn't sleep.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: And that was truly what made me the real believer of our sleep roller.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, because I don't know how I would have made it through this movie without that roller, because A, it was safe for me.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: And after trying for so long to get pregnant and finally being pregnant, I obviously didn't want to put anything on that could potentially hurt me or affect the pregnancy in any way.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: So it was truly like I as someone who my anxiety is so bad that it really does affect my sleep, or it used to, I should say.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: The sleep has the sleepy roller has dramatically, dramatically changed my life and many others.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Sleepy and Zen.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: And then, of course, immunity with travel and just helping, you know, there's been times where I've, you know, you feel sore throat coming on.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: I roll immunity on the bottom of my feet because our pores are the largest on our feet and it absorbs into your system.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: And it's just every blend is so specifically made and targeted that if you aren't somebody who believes in essential oils and you just want to smell good without the toxic ingredients, you're using it as a way to smell good, but you're benefiting from from the therapy from the aromatherapy, right?
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: I love, I love that.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: And I think that, you know, here's the thing is like my experience with so like you mentioned Zen.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: I really love Zen.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: And I I remember when I first tried it, I was like, oh, this is wonderful, you know, and this is kind of what I meant earlier with it's something that does last for a very long time.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: You know, if you do roll it on, and I can tell that it's concentrated because it does last for a while, but it lingers, and that lingering is almost like a comfort blanket.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: Like I can't really explain it other than that, because there's a lot of ways that you can think about like anxiety treatment, right?
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Like there's a lot of pills out there.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: I personally have tried a lot of stuff, and what happens usually with anxiety is like physiologically, things wear off very quickly, you know, and it's like even the drugs are gonna wear off.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Like within an like Xanax, if you take Xanax, technically you will stop experiencing Xanax after 30 minutes or to an hour.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Like that's the bottom line.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: So with anxiety, I think where a lot of times big pharma or even like you know, Western medicine misses the mark is that you need something that's going to last.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: You need something that's going to keep training your brain to calm down, you know, and like to like facilitate that process for a prolonged period of time.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: And that's truly what's going to lead to anxiolytic effects, you know what I mean, that are going to alter your lifestyle.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: And so with this, I feel like this is very, this is a very unique approach to wanting to tackle your anxiety because it's something that you can safely use.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: It's going to last you for a while, and it's also going to come into that cognitive like training of your mind to like, it's almost like, you know, like with we we train our pets, right?
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: We have to also train our brains.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: Like we have to train them to not react in certain situations or not overreact, right?
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: And because of certain triggers.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: And I think when it comes to aromatherapy, that's one of the most least spoken about topics, is that it does act like a tool for that, you know?
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: And with with these oils, especially if you have anxiety or you're, you know, you're dealing with that on a day-to-day basis, this could be your way of doing that for yourself.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Because I'll be honest with you, psychotherapy and all of these like professional outlets, they just simply haven't caught up yet.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Because we're always relying on, you know what I mean, like medical journals and like all the stuff that goes into approving things, right?
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: For the in the medical world.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: But unfortunately, you know, that doesn't have to limit people.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: You there are ways that you can still deal with it.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Like right now, you know, magnesium, for example, is huge in the anxiety world because everyone's like talking about magnesium and it's like, yeah, you know why magnesium is big, because magnesium is a cofactor for your GABA receptors.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: So like now everyone's figuring that out.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, but it's always been around.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: And it's that's what I mean with when you had mentioned Egypt.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: Like, I completely agree with you.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, people for centuries have been using oils not only for like preservation and you know, things that are very functional, but also for this idea of you know, they actually sway you, like the aromas and stuff, they sway you to do certain things and for your brain to work in certain ways.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: And you know, if science is finally catching up to that.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: I know, and that's wonderful, and that makes me so excited.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: I look at it two ways too.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: You know, if you are someone who experiences anxiety, you know, tools, of course, but also rituals are super important.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: And if every time you pull you you have that thing that's like for me, I call like my security blanket.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: I always have it in my purse, right?
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: So it's something to do instead of just sitting in in your, if you're starting to feel a little bit anxious or nerve, you reach for the Zen roller, you open it up, you could roll it on or smell it.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: And the act of doing it is taking your mind off of your anxiety, or you know what I mean?
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: And it's putting it on this is the tool that's gonna help.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: And not only that, I, you know, when you're a kid and you have a great memory, what is one of the first things that triggers that memory is some sometimes it's scent, right?
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Like the smell of my grandmother's chicken soup or whatever it is, right?
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: For me, it's like I think of like my happiest memories at camp or in Florida, there's this very distinct scent in the air or in the, you know, the of the of nature from being outside at some.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: So when I smell that smell right after it rains and I can smell that scent of like nature, it brings back all these, it floods me with all these great memories and feelings.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: Same thing with with with essential oils.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: But I do want to say one thing that I think science is now proving is that when you apply essential oil, so not just through scent, but when you apply it to your skin, we talked about how our skin's our largest organ, it absorbs everything.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: When you apply it, it actually gets into your cells within 20 minutes and helps to affect the inside as much as scent in the brain, right?
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: So, like, for example, we have our massage roller, massages for pain.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: I call it, you know, it's kind of like nature's our natural tiger bomb, right?
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: When you apply it to the skin, it just irritates the skin, it's just numb your skin, right?
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: So it's actually just like like giving you the illusion that it's helping the pain.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: Whereas our massage roller has oils that topically do help with the topical, but it they actually get in to your cells to help reduce inflammation from the inside.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: So the reason why, I mean, we have people, my mom has a shattered ankle from skiing accident when she was 16, and medication was not working for her.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: It's the only thing that actually helped decrease the inflammation.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: And so, and we have a lot of people, I have a lot of like really die hard massage fans that, you know, for me, it helps me with my tension headaches, but for them, they have like chronic, chronic pain.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: And the massage roller is the only thing that helps them.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, I mean, I think it makes a lot of sense also from the I like the concept of like there's a my serious mind-body connection in medicine that's like very often overlooked.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: And I feel like just now, like in the recent years, researchers are catching on to the fact that you can really truly you can heal yourself.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: Like that, I I'm a doctor saying that with full confidence.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: You know, I've seen this in so many patients.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: That if your mindset is somehow altered, and this can happen through a lot of things, but I feel like like smell and you know, like your senses are the strongest way, that is really going to impact the way that you, you know, handle your recovery, whether that's an accident, whatever that is, right?
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: And so there is a really strong association here with the idea that mind over matter, you know, and if you're trying to heal like a chronic injury, such as you mentioned, like your mother's ankle, if it's a chronic injury, then nothing has worked, and medications are not working anymore.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: That's not just a physiological thing where like you're, you know, the bones aren't responding or you know, the tissues aren't responding.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: It's also a mind thing.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: So like it's like your mind and your brain is convinced now that nothing's going to help me anymore.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm I've run into a wall, I've run into a dead end, and I don't know how to fix this.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: So that's where things like incorporating like a new approach, a new mindset is extremely beneficial.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: And it that's where I feel like I mean, I completely agree that we have to do a lot more studies, you know, in the sense of like understanding how things like oils can genuinely, you know, therapeutically from like a physiological biochemistry standpoint help with tissue injuries and whatnot.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: But I I'm more interested in that mind-body connection, because there is a there's a serious thing going on here that no one really wants to talk about.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: And you do heal yourself.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: You do, you know.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: And it's the same thing with like healing frequency.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of people are waking up to it now, and a lot of people are very frustrated.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: I think we do we are in a time where there is a big population of people that are really searching for the the real way to to heal our bodies and not just put band aids.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Um, so I I I I am optimistic about that, but I do think that it is something I agree.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: We do need more scientific studies.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: So There's a lot of people who will not trust it if it's not proven, right?
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: Whereas a lot of times, like you have to do it's sort of like you got to do it and experience it, and that's the proof.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: You don't need a lot of study to tell you something works, and that's the beauty of this of the community of people that uh use the oils, right?
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: My like my customer base, I would say, is when we first launched, I wasn't I wasn't claiming anything, I was just like, this helped me, I would love for it to help you.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: And I think most people who bought it initially were just supporting me, and it was just because it was my line and they were recording, and then they used it and were like, holy, like, what is this?
- 44:43SPEAKER_00: People so because of that too, we started doing, I mean, we rebranded last year, but we had 27 different blends on the website, starting from just five.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: And the reason we had 27, we we rebranded and we took a lot off the shelf, and now we'll do like limited releases of them.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: The reason we took we we downsized was because people were getting, I felt like people were getting a little bit overwhelmed when there's too much to choose from.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: We wanted to sort of narrow and then you know, release release some of these blends as monthly specials type of thing.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: But we I started getting messages from people, hey, do you have something for for this?
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: Do you have something for that?
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: Do you have something for this?
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: And so I would start custom blending things specifically for, you know, there were people who wanted thyroid help.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: So I made a thyroid blend, or you know, the fertility blend was one obviously that helped me get pregnant.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: So we launched that.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: There's just so many, even our body oil, which you have, the the body oil was created because when I was pregnant, I couldn't find anything that that was naturally scented that can help with stretch marks and you know, things that you worry about when you're pregnant that's safe for pregnancy.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: So we created body oil, you know.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but it was also we created a BFF roller.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: And the reason we created that was because one of my friends said, I want to bathe in this body oil scent.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: Can you please make a roller so that my kids can remember me by this smell and that I can put it on all day long?
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: And it was the benefits of just a great smelling perfume was that it was a mood booster and it helped with inflammation and it helped with you know different things.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: So I you could use it as a to help your cuticles.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: There's just so many different ways, and it it gets really fun to to custom blend things for people.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: Or, you know, last thing I'll say is my nanny, she when she first started coming with the kids, she was wearing perfume.
- 46:37SPEAKER_00: And I said, Hey, I'm sorry, but I'm super allergic.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: The second she walked in the house, my head like just the worst migraine.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: And I also didn't want that around my kids because for obvious reasons, I just don't think it's great.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: And so I said, What scents do you like?
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: And so I just literally made her a roller with all of these scents that she loved, and that is what she wears daily now, and she likes it better than her perfume.
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: She's on the as a benefit, she's getting therapeutic benefits from it because it's getting into her skin, but she doesn't really care about that.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: What she cares about is just smelling good, so she's getting the best of both worlds.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: No, I mean, I feel like it's a huge, like, huge benefit actually to wear oils.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: They last longer, first of all.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: So, like, you're gonna actually smell better for a longer period of time.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: And also another thing is like there's a lot of, well, I'm actually currently, it's funny, I'm writing a paper right now about the impact of these, like, you know, like the perfumes that we spray and the the packaging that we use to spray them, you know, the the diffusers and what that does to your lungs.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: It actually causes serious lung pathology.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: So, like, if anyone out there is looking for, you know, a better option, something that's actually going to last longer, but you're still gonna smell amazing.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I recommend you you go this route, you know, try the oils and and really find something that resonates with you because trust me, in the next 10, 15 years, you're gonna see a lot of papers about this stuff.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: It's coming.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: And that's really exciting for me.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: So that information is out there.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: But, you know, you also have to think about a lot of people that you see drowning themselves in perfume and stuff.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: Like a lot of times I'll see on social media they're in their early 20s and they're not really thinking about getting pregnant today.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: But you know, all of that is affecting them for when they do.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: And it just sometimes I'm just like, like, you know, if it and a lot of times you just don't know.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: A lot of times, like people just don't know.
- 48:25SPEAKER_00: So if there is more awareness and you are writing more papers and there are more studies being done, then people could hopefully, hopefully take the right steps to, you know, taking a little bit better care and preventing some of these, you know, some of these issues.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: I completely agree.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: And I think that it's a, you know, it's something that you just have to, you you have to become mindful, you know, that's the bottom line.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: So at the end of the day, the next time that you see somebody talking about wellness and true wellness, like, you know, a lifestyle change, please don't look at that as like hocus pocus.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: People are genuinely waking up and they're understanding that there's real relevance here, you know, there's something we've really missed the mark on as a society, especially in the Western world.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: And I really encourage our listeners, you know, you guys got to figure it out what works for you.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: You know, that's my biggest like thing is like I feel like people always follow trends.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: And I mean, it's good to follow trends, but you do have to do the homework into like what is actually going to benefit me.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: Like you said, if I'm 20 years old and I'm bombarding my body, what am I gonna look like when I'm 30?
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, inside and outside.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's a really big question.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: And so you have to have that inner like dialogue with yourself.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: I'm a huge believer in it, and I I'm really, really excited to see that you're such an advocate, Kelly, for you know, truly genuine, clean living lifestyle, you know, modification that's beneficial for your entire life.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: I love that you're doing that.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: So thank you.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: Hats off to you for doing that.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much, and thank you for everything you do because you know it's very rare to see a doctor really advocate for you know clean living and putting great things in your body.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: But what's interesting is that you do see the data of what it's you know, so I think uh, you know, anyone in science can get behind that.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: It's really hard, you know, especially when you have like formal training and science stuff, like they really kind of drill it into your brains to to the point of where it's subconscious, you know.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: Like, well, if you don't see the papers and you don't see the graphs and you sound, you know, don't see the tables, don't believe it.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: And it's just you really do have to actively try to break yourself out of that way of thinking, you know, because the number one rule in in medicine is do no harm.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm sorry to say it, but people might hate me for it.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: But there's a lot of harm being done in the I'm so glad you did say that.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of harm being done, and it's not it's not because we don't know that this is harmful, it's because there's a lot of shit that's going on, you know.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: And so at the end of the day, like, you know, even with consumers, when you think about your own body, we all have to think about it from that perspective of do no harm, you know.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: And so I I really believe in it.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: I think there's a lot of holistic therapies that we just haven't even talked about.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: We don't even talk about them.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: It makes me so happy to see that as as you know, you being a doctor that you are so passionate and preaching this.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: And I think more and more there are so many medical professionals that are starting to really get tired of the band-aids and really starting to look at, well, let's get to the the underlying reason why you're having this issue.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: And it seems that's the whole thing, like I said, the acne thing, like you know, your energy level, your brain fog, your depression, your anxiety, all of that stuff stems from your lifestyle.
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: And people just don't want to really admit that or or make the changes, or they'll say, you know, and it doesn't have to be expensive.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: That's the thing, too, is you know, you could you could make these changes.
- 51:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, little things, even like just cleaning up your environment, decluttering, you know, getting a small air filter, just there's so many things.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: I could go on about this for I am extremely passionate about this.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: And becoming a mother changed that for me drastically, too, with like how important it is to get this message out.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: Well, you became like hyper-vigilant, right?
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: Like when you become a mom, it's like you now you're thinking for your children, you know, it's like everything is like you notice everything.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, I feel like, you know, one of the biggest reasons, and and this is why I was so excited to interview you.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: And I'm so happy that you do have this oil range because I, for me, I'll tell you, you know, real quick, like I was on antidepressants for a long time.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: And you know what happened?
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: I became incredibly sick.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: Like I became very sick to the point where the person who had told me to get on them, like I was on a very high dose and I had to taper myself off, which is incredibly difficult, by the way.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: For anyone who's on like an actual like a Zoloft or anything like that, you guys know like it's extremely hard to taper yourself off.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: And what happens when you actually get off these drugs is you understand that there is a lot of stuff out here that's gonna help you way more.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: It's gonna really help.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: And that's where I'm like, I love that you're doing this.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Please don't stop doing this because I promise you, people will wake up because when they realize that big pharma is doing a lot of stuff behind the scenes where they're convincing you that your depression and your anxiety and your OCD and whatever it is you're suffering with is only curable by this.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: You're gonna wake up to other, you're gonna look for other options and you're gonna find them and it's gonna be like revolutionary for you.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: Because I've been there as a person who studies science my whole life.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: I've gone through that.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: So when I see brands like people like you, and you're trying to put this into the world and you're doing your best and you're trying to create new options, I'm so excited that you're doing that because we need that.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: This is what's going to shift the culture.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: It's going to shift people into thinking I don't have to feel stuck and I don't have to feel like I have to poison my body every day with this pill that I'm gonna become addicted to because it's inevitable that I become addicted.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: So it's a very deep topic and it's it goes much further than just, oh, you know, it's something that smells good.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: No, it's a lot deeper than that, you know.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: There's therapy here, so I'm I love it and I I really applaud you, Kelly.
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: I think you know, what you're doing comes from such a sincere place, and it's beautiful to see that because we don't have enough of that, you know.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: So really please keep doing it.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: And I can't wait to watch your brand grow and and all the wonderful things that come.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: And right back at you.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: I, you know, like I said, I'm a big fan of your show and I love what you're doing, and it's even better that you are an actual doctor that is putting out this information.

- 55:03SPEAKER_01: So I'd really, really do recommend it.
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: Like I said, Zen has been amazing for my anxiety, it's helped me a lot, like genuinely.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: Like, I love it as just a you know, something I can take with me wherever I go, and even at night, like I'm a big believer in like night routines, so I use it at night a lot.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: Um you should layer Zen with sleepy and then tell it.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was just gonna say, like, I don't use the the sleep one, but I feel like I could use both together.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: But I I mean Zen works really well for me.
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: So I've been just using that at night, and it's usually when I use it is nighttime.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: So I love it, and you know, I can't wait for you guys to try it.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: Let me know if you try it and you know, chime in.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: But thank you so much, Kelly.
