- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode fifty four of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined as always
- 0:23Speaker 1: by my very good friend Jeremy Burr, also from Rasball.
- 0:26Speaker 1: How are you feeling tonight, buddy, are if you recovered
- 0:29Speaker 1: from the deluge that was the trade deadline this year.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm recovering, and I do have a thirty nine year
- 0:36Speaker 2: old reliever to trade you if you would like to
- 0:38Speaker 2: give me your first born child. I've got options. I
- 0:43Speaker 2: think everybody's selling. When I said everybody, two teams are selling,
- 0:47Speaker 2: everybody else is buying. So if you've got extra relievers
- 0:50Speaker 2: laying around, should have capitalized on it. That was the fun.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a bevy of trades over this past
- 0:59Speaker 1: weekend since we talked last week, and thirty two trades
- 1:04Speaker 1: went down on the trade deadline, fifty nine in total
- 1:06Speaker 1: over like from Thursday through the end of Tuesday. At
- 1:10Speaker 1: the deadline. I didn't go out there and count them
- 1:12Speaker 1: on the MLB Transaction waiver wire. I just actually kind
- 1:17Speaker 1: of got them from the athletics, so hopefully they did
- 1:20Speaker 1: their due diligence. I don't question them too much. I
- 1:23Speaker 1: hope somebody actually did fact check that, cause fifty nine
- 1:26Speaker 1: is a lot. Like I was listening to Baseball Barbercast
- 1:29Speaker 1: earlier this week, and those guys were saying most of
- 1:34Speaker 1: the trade deadline subtle in the load to mid forties.
- 1:38Speaker 1: So fifty nine is a lot, even though it wasn't
- 1:41Speaker 1: a very momentous trade deadline. You know, we didn't have
- 1:44Speaker 1: any big boppers moving around in terms of like a
- 1:46Speaker 1: Wan Soto or even you know, a future Hall of
- 1:49Speaker 1: Famer like Justin Verlander or Max Scherz are going anywhere.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But it was constant, rapid fire, little transaction by little transaction,
- 1:59Speaker 1: small reliever, bench pieces, minor leaguers. It was all over
- 2:03Speaker 1: the place. So we've got a lot to get into tonight,
- 2:06Speaker 1: and we're gonna focus just on kind of the bigger
- 2:09Speaker 1: picture ones. I think we just counted up. We have
- 2:11Speaker 1: like twenty eight to discuss out of the fifty nine
- 2:14Speaker 1: that kind of go into some sort of fantasy impact
- 2:18Speaker 1: and kind of get back to what we talked about
- 2:20Speaker 1: last week on episode fifty three, trying to button up
- 2:23Speaker 1: some of those predictions. But yeah, we've got a lot
- 2:26Speaker 1: to get into tonight. So I hope that you are
- 2:28Speaker 1: well rested and ready to talk.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Never well rested, but always ready to talk. So let's
- 2:34Speaker 2: get into it. Let's hope it's we're not as rapid
- 2:37Speaker 2: fire as the trade deadline as I felt like every
- 2:39Speaker 2: three minutes there was a new trade being announced. I
- 2:41Speaker 2: felt bad for Bob Nightingale because, first of all, with
- 2:44Speaker 2: Bob Nightingale, and second of all, I mean, the reporting
- 2:47Speaker 2: that the guy had to do was like literally breaking
- 2:49Speaker 2: it every five seconds and trying to analyze it. It's
- 2:54Speaker 2: just incredible the amount of activity they had. I would
- 2:59Speaker 2: just love to be a fly on the wall in
- 3:00Speaker 2: the front office that day. I don't know which front
- 3:04Speaker 2: office would you been most entertained to sit in during
- 3:08Speaker 2: the trade deadline. It was pretty entertaining personally for me.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I would love to have just been sitting in Miami
- 3:14Speaker 2: just to go trading parts away. And I mean the
- 3:17Speaker 2: trade offers coming in have been like are you serious
- 3:20Speaker 2: or are you serious?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Sure?
- 3:21Speaker 2: Sure, I'll take three or top ten prospects from my
- 3:23Speaker 2: closure that's gonna leave the other year. Sure?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Why not? Yeah? I actually I would pick Florida as well,
- 3:28Speaker 1: but I would go with Tampa just because I've been
- 3:31Speaker 1: reading a lot of just the roundups from the trade deadline,
- 3:34Speaker 1: and I think a lot of people were lukewarm on
- 3:35Speaker 1: what Tampa did. I kind of liked it. I think
- 3:38Speaker 1: they did a pretty good job of restocking and getting
- 3:41Speaker 1: a lot of interesting players, and especially when Tampa goes
- 3:46Speaker 1: into trades and picks out minor leaguers and guys from
- 3:51Speaker 1: complex leagues and like plucks them out of teams and
- 3:55Speaker 1: obviously like it's kind of the classic Sam Miller tweet
- 3:58Speaker 1: of like who the race trade for? Who they get?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Like I love it or whatever. I butchered that. I
- 4:03Speaker 1: butchered that terribly because uh yeah, I should have haven't
- 4:06Speaker 1: memorized it. But it's that sort of like mo that
- 4:10Speaker 1: Tampa uses and the way that they go and acquire
- 4:13Speaker 1: these players. It does feel like they know what they're doing,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and a lot of it too. You can see the
- 4:18Speaker 1: bigger pictures starting to come back together in Tampa, I
- 4:21Speaker 1: think in terms of Junior Camanaro coming along, Carson Williams
- 4:25Speaker 1: coming along, some of those other pieces that they've got
- 4:28Speaker 1: rising through the miners they're building around them already. So
- 4:32Speaker 1: I would have loved to be in that Tampa room
- 4:33Speaker 1: just to see like what their valuations and takes on
- 4:36Speaker 1: all these players are.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, they were very clearly saying twenty twenty four we're
- 4:41Speaker 2: a good team, we're not good enough and so well,
- 4:45Speaker 2: we're not gonna fully throw the season in, but anybody
- 4:48Speaker 2: that's valuable for us in twenty twenty five you're sticking around.
- 4:51Speaker 2: We're gonna make use like Pete Fairbanks, I think a
- 4:53Speaker 2: great example. You know, his market had to be unbelievable,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and there's like, no, no, what we need because we
- 5:01Speaker 2: think we're gonna be really good next year. And so
- 5:03Speaker 2: I love the confidence, love.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Of the bees.
- 5:05Speaker 2: So you're right, Like I said, I like the fire sale.
- 5:08Speaker 2: That would be a lot when you throw Trevor Rodgers
- 5:11Speaker 2: up and everybody's like, sure taking prospects for him. And
- 5:14Speaker 2: we'll get into it, but definitely definitely would love to
- 5:18Speaker 2: be a fly on the wall and a number of
- 5:20Speaker 2: those scenarios.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Sure, So yeah, let's get into it. And we're obviously
- 5:25Speaker 1: gonna start with the biggest news that's come out from
- 5:28Speaker 1: this kind of period, and that is Michael McGreevy debuting
- 5:31Speaker 1: today for the Saintless Cardinals. Now, I'm we are gonna
- 5:34Speaker 1: talk McGreevy, but I'll stick at the end for those
- 5:36Speaker 1: of you out there that don't know he is like
- 5:38Speaker 1: my token guy. I wrote all last summer about him
- 5:41Speaker 1: coming up and he never did. Finally did and debuted
- 5:44Speaker 1: and looked sharp for the Cardinals today. So there's a
- 5:47Speaker 1: couple of other players we'll get to talking about from
- 5:49Speaker 1: the Cardinals. But let's get into the actual trades. And
- 5:54Speaker 1: I think I want to actually kick off with a
- 5:55Speaker 1: non trade from the trade deadline, oddly, and that is
- 5:58Speaker 1: just Garrett crocheted move, of which is dumbfounding to me
- 6:03Speaker 1: in terms of it was the perfect time to try
- 6:06Speaker 1: to capilize on Garrett Crochet peaking as an ace in Chicago.
- 6:10Speaker 1: And Chris Gets I think thinks that this White Sox
- 6:15Speaker 1: team is going to turn around anytime soon, but it's
- 6:18Speaker 1: a long ways away. And I don't see Garrett Croche
- 6:20Speaker 1: being a part of the next Socks team on top
- 6:23Speaker 1: of like his history of injuries. Like, I just don't know.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, it's Chris Gets in the White Sox
- 6:31Speaker 1: front office, so I don't think that they're always acting
- 6:34Speaker 1: in like the most efficient manner in terms of like
- 6:38Speaker 1: the way that they're running a baseball team. So I
- 6:42Speaker 1: guess we can criticize them a little bit, but it
- 6:44Speaker 1: is I think still surprising that they didn't move Crochet,
- 6:48Speaker 1: given just what pitchers are and how quickly they can
- 6:53Speaker 1: break down and how quickly they can blow out, as
- 6:56Speaker 1: well as obviously this was muddled by Crochet coming out
- 7:00Speaker 1: saying that he wasn't going to pitch in the playoffs
- 7:03Speaker 1: for a team unless he was given an extension, and
- 7:06Speaker 1: just kind of putting other parameters around his usage because
- 7:10Speaker 1: he's We've talked about it, actually like even a month ago.
- 7:13Speaker 1: You know, he's already had a career high in innings
- 7:16Speaker 1: for high school, college, minor leagues, big leagues. So I
- 7:21Speaker 1: can see where he's coming from, especially as a pre
- 7:23Speaker 1: ARB guy, you know, trying to protect that arm and
- 7:26Speaker 1: making sure he can get to free agency. But what
- 7:29Speaker 1: is your take on kind of what the Socks are
- 7:32Speaker 1: doing with Garrett Crochet and what do you think that
- 7:35Speaker 1: the rest of the season kind of holds for him?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I but as the fact, I think
- 7:40Speaker 2: they completely misplayed their hand with Garrett Crochet. I don't
- 7:43Speaker 2: think there's any denying that from the fact that they
- 7:46Speaker 2: telegraphed their concern with his innings so clearly to the
- 7:51Speaker 2: rest of the league that they were tempering these we're
- 7:54Speaker 2: not sure how long it's gonna last. They made it
- 7:57Speaker 2: very gonchonal and obvious what they were doing that raises
- 8:00Speaker 2: red flags. They didn't communicate well with him about his
- 8:04Speaker 2: extension thing and let him throw that out there. And
- 8:06Speaker 2: so more or less, you know, going into a market
- 8:12Speaker 2: or everybody's trying to buy a pit young pitcher, he
- 8:14Speaker 2: should be one of the most attractive pieces. But considering
- 8:17Speaker 2: the guy once a extension before pitching in the postseason
- 8:21Speaker 2: and likely isn't going to give you them any innings,
- 8:24Speaker 2: He's the last kind of guy you actually do want
- 8:26Speaker 2: to trade for. It's this kind of weird dynamic. So
- 8:30Speaker 2: you know, you look at some of the trades and
- 8:32Speaker 2: we'll get into it later, but you know, Padres give
- 8:35Speaker 2: up some pretty pretty big haul of prospects there that
- 8:38Speaker 2: if that would have gone for Crochet, I've been like, yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 2: that makes sense, Like I don't think the offers were
- 8:43Speaker 2: there for Crochet. I think the White Sox are kind
- 8:45Speaker 2: of throwing shade at Crochet for his you know, tactics
- 8:48Speaker 2: or whatever you want to call it. Of what he
- 8:51Speaker 2: was talking about, his extension opportunities but I really think
- 8:55Speaker 2: that there wasn't a market there because teams wanted a
- 8:57Speaker 2: player that was going to help them this year, and
- 9:00Speaker 2: Gerret Crochet was not going to help them that much
- 9:03Speaker 2: this year. They didn't want to bring a guy across
- 9:06Speaker 2: that they were gonna have to give foreignans a start
- 9:08Speaker 2: and hope that he could hang out until the postseason.
- 9:11Speaker 2: So I still love Eric Crochet. I think he's gonna
- 9:15Speaker 2: be a great pitcher. He if they're smart, they're trading
- 9:19Speaker 2: him in the off season. That's what they're doing. They're
- 9:21Speaker 2: getting the off season, then they're shopping him, make him
- 9:24Speaker 2: do an early offseason deal to make something happen. But
- 9:28Speaker 2: it's it's the White Sox played it interesting, that's for sure.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I do think that it's just very indicative of
- 9:37Speaker 1: a culture and a team that is not run well,
- 9:40Speaker 1: because I think one of the big things you really
- 9:43Speaker 1: hit on was just the communication expect you know that
- 9:46Speaker 1: I would not be surprised to hear that the Socks
- 9:49Speaker 1: don't have great two way communication with their players. They
- 9:52Speaker 1: don't seem to have really great scouting communication, they don't
- 9:56Speaker 1: seem to have great like stretching and training like communications.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So it is just really you would think that it
- 10:06Speaker 1: would wake them up to be able to show like, hey,
- 10:08Speaker 1: this is healthy. Organizations can still work their way through
- 10:11Speaker 1: this sort of issue with crochet and like the extension
- 10:15Speaker 1: and YadA YadA, being able to negotiate the correct deal
- 10:18Speaker 1: and being able to find the right value. But just
- 10:21Speaker 1: because the way that the White Tuks do things and
- 10:24Speaker 1: kind of I mean, they've got to be if not last,
- 10:28Speaker 1: Like I mean with the Rockies too, you just everything
- 10:31Speaker 1: you hear just that these are some of the more
- 10:35Speaker 1: left behind organizations in terms of moving things forward with
- 10:39Speaker 1: how the rest of baseball runs. And it's just not
- 10:42Speaker 1: surprising to see that considering also, did you also see
- 10:46Speaker 1: that the Rockies didn't do anything again this year? So
- 10:48Speaker 1: another non trait that kind of makes this all dumbfounding.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I mean, I guess they moved a reliever here and there,
- 10:54Speaker 1: but like they again did not sell off that team
- 10:58Speaker 1: in Colorado, And again, I think it goes with the
- 11:01Speaker 1: same thing. And I think maybe part of it is too,
- 11:03Speaker 1: is because of the way that they're run, they just
- 11:05Speaker 1: don't know how to value players and don't feel comfortable
- 11:08Speaker 1: in these trade scenarios, and it shows every deadline Yeah, it's.
- 11:12Speaker 2: And I don't know for like the Rockies as something
- 11:14Speaker 2: that you want to It feels like pitchers are generally
- 11:16Speaker 2: like the piece of people go after. Nobody trusts the
- 11:18Speaker 2: Rockies picture. I don't know what it is, but like
- 11:21Speaker 2: you gotta you gotta figure that out and go for it.
- 11:23Speaker 2: But uh, in action versus action either way for those
- 11:27Speaker 2: teams not playing the right the right game. So to
- 11:30Speaker 2: your point, it is kind of disappointing that just it's
- 11:32Speaker 2: the way those teams are run. It's it's got to
- 11:35Speaker 2: be tough as tough as a fan.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and I guess along with the Socks obviously not
- 11:40Speaker 1: being able to capitalize on returns. Let's get into the
- 11:42Speaker 1: trade that they did make then, with Eric Fetti being
- 11:45Speaker 1: shipped out of town along with Michael Kopek and they
- 11:52Speaker 1: Betty went to Saint Louis, Kopek went to LA. Edmund
- 11:55Speaker 1: was involved in this trade. He went to LA, and
- 11:57Speaker 1: Miguel Vargaz comes back to Chicago, as well as a
- 12:00Speaker 1: few pretty low level prospects. Those are the main four
- 12:04Speaker 1: pieces that were in this trade. Oh and I'm not
- 12:08Speaker 1: even reading my note right. Tommy fam obviously also moved
- 12:11Speaker 1: to the Cardinals. I couldn't leave that one behind. I
- 12:14Speaker 1: guess he's just been I mean, he's also been on fire,
- 12:18Speaker 1: hitting a pinch hint grand slam home run in his
- 12:21Speaker 1: first at bat with the Cardinals. He had a big
- 12:23Speaker 1: game today as we're talking here on July thirty first,
- 12:26Speaker 1: it does look like this is what we're looking for
- 12:28Speaker 1: when we were talking last week about the up arrow
- 12:31Speaker 1: for Tommy fam the up arrow for Eric Fetty. But
- 12:35Speaker 1: this has got to be the worst rate Jurney you
- 12:38Speaker 1: could have imagined for the White Sox. They were holding
- 12:41Speaker 1: the best pitcher outside of Jack Flaherty at this deadline
- 12:45Speaker 1: in Eric Fetty, who's also signed for next year at
- 12:47Speaker 1: seven and a half million dollars. It's an absolute steal
- 12:51Speaker 1: here for the Saint Louis Cardinals moving in and being
- 12:54Speaker 1: able to trade the still injured Tommy Edmond, who's struggled
- 12:58Speaker 1: on his rehab from the wrist and is getting banged
- 13:00Speaker 1: up in other places, but fits in LA as he
- 13:03Speaker 1: can play shortstop and kind of cover some of the
- 13:06Speaker 1: positions up the middle they need the Copec acquisition in LA.
- 13:11Speaker 1: He could be in the mix for saves as they're
- 13:13Speaker 1: still figuring things out with Evan Phillips breaking down here
- 13:16Speaker 1: mid season, and then obviously you have Miguel Vargas moving
- 13:20Speaker 1: to Chicago, who by all accounts, is not that great
- 13:25Speaker 1: of a return. I don't maybe this is a case
- 13:26Speaker 1: of where Chris Getz has scouting information that's a couple
- 13:29Speaker 1: of years old on Mcalvargus, but he has struggled. He
- 13:32Speaker 1: doesn't appear capable of playing the infield and is going
- 13:36Speaker 1: to be likely an outfielder unless the White Sox can
- 13:40Speaker 1: turn that around. But this is an absolute fleecing of
- 13:44Speaker 1: the White Sox, I think overall, in terms of being
- 13:46Speaker 1: able to extract one of the best pictures out of them,
- 13:50Speaker 1: the best left handed or best right handed bat against
- 13:54Speaker 1: left handed pitchers that was on the market out of
- 13:57Speaker 1: them with FAM. And then you're also just like kind
- 13:59Speaker 1: of throwing in Kopek, who clearly just needs new coaching.
- 14:04Speaker 1: He's got all the talent in the world, but he's
- 14:05Speaker 1: always been a somebody who couldn't quite harness everything. But
- 14:09Speaker 1: if you're the Dodgers and the Cardinals, I'm sure they
- 14:12Speaker 1: were just laughing all the way home in terms of
- 14:15Speaker 1: being able to get these players out Chicago. Correct.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think for the most part, you're right, Like
- 14:22Speaker 2: you know, the Cardinals absolutely like it's Tommy. I love
- 14:26Speaker 2: Tommy Edmond. I think he's a fantastic player, fantastic person
- 14:29Speaker 2: for the community, all those things in Saint Louis. But
- 14:32Speaker 2: to be able to trade a guy that's literally given
- 14:34Speaker 2: you nothing all year and you are in a wild
- 14:38Speaker 2: card contending spot and add a I'm not gonna say
- 14:44Speaker 2: frontline starter for Fetti, but like really reliable, strong starter
- 14:50Speaker 2: and FAM to me was almost like a kick in,
- 14:52Speaker 2: which ironically sounded like the part of the deal that
- 14:54Speaker 2: was the like the biggest hold up, Like the Cardinals like,
- 14:57Speaker 2: we know we can get Fetti for Edmund. Essentially with
- 15:00Speaker 2: with this, we're gonna hold out till we can get FAM.
- 15:01Speaker 2: And we threw in a seventeen year old we just
- 15:04Speaker 2: signed a few weeks back, and we'll see what happens. Right.
- 15:07Speaker 2: That's but the Cardinals also saved like a few million
- 15:10Speaker 2: bucks in the deal as well.
- 15:12Speaker 1: White Tucks threw in money.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I didn't see that throwing money. It didn't cost more.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they threw in some money maybe to
- 15:21Speaker 1: offset the Fetti contract, which isn't even necessary, Like who.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Were saving money. Yeah, so I don't know what the
- 15:30Speaker 2: White Sox are doing. I will say, I'm I'm actually
- 15:33Speaker 2: like this for Miguel Vargas, Like he's one of those
- 15:36Speaker 2: guys that I think has a lot of potential. You know,
- 15:39Speaker 2: he had like three years straight in the minors, argably
- 15:43Speaker 2: four that he was just really, really good. And you know,
- 15:47Speaker 2: in twenty twenty two he made eighteen games for the Dodgers.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Twenty twenty three he had eighty one, but he was
- 15:53Speaker 2: hurt most of the year. This year he's got thirty one.
- 15:55Speaker 2: He hasn't got a chance to play at the major
- 15:56Speaker 2: league level, but yet when he's been in TRIPLEA, his
- 16:00Speaker 2: worst bad everage was two eighty eight. He's hitting a
- 16:02Speaker 2: home run one of every like five or six games.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Like he's a pretty gush darn good hitter. And when
- 16:08Speaker 2: you know, we look at a lot of metrics like
- 16:10Speaker 2: your walk rates, your strikeout rates, like they're all really reasonable.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Like there know a lot to like about Vargas here.
- 16:17Speaker 2: So I really like this because I like him getting
- 16:19Speaker 2: out of LA and getting a chance to play. But
- 16:23Speaker 2: I don't think that's worth giving up what they give up.
- 16:26Speaker 2: So that's maybe there's something else to some of these
- 16:28Speaker 2: other prospects. But I do look at this one as
- 16:30Speaker 2: I like the up arrow for Vargas's playing time, the capability,
- 16:33Speaker 2: so all the BANG players I actually like from a
- 16:36Speaker 2: fantasy perspective, the lift that they get. But it did
- 16:41Speaker 2: feel a little uneven at the end of the day.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I don't want to say that John Moseylock won a trade.
- 16:47Speaker 2: It just doesn't feel right. And let's be honest, Tommy
- 16:51Speaker 2: Edmonds is probably gonna still hit twenty homers this year.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Somehow he's gonna He's gonna go Randy Rose Arena in
- 16:57Speaker 2: the playoffs for the Dodgers or something, and we'll laugh later.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean, I think out of all of
- 17:05Speaker 1: the players that have the biggest up arrows in this trade,
- 17:07Speaker 1: for me, it's probably Eric Fatty. Like I think this
- 17:09Speaker 1: is somebody who from a fantasy perspective moves into probably
- 17:15Speaker 1: like top forty starters maybe. Like the era is so
- 17:22Speaker 1: like superlative compared to what you can get out there
- 17:25Speaker 1: sometimes and like I think, especially when you put him
- 17:29Speaker 1: in Saint Louis, you can rely on that ballpark a
- 17:32Speaker 1: little bit more. It'll be you know, maybe a three
- 17:34Speaker 1: three era is kind of what I'm penciling in going forward.
- 17:37Speaker 1: But the strikeouts have been there. You know from time
- 17:42Speaker 1: to time that he has shown the ability to generate
- 17:45Speaker 1: more strikeouts than he has like in the past when
- 17:49Speaker 1: he was on the Nationals before he went to the KBO.
- 17:53Speaker 1: And it does also seem obviously like you're gonna he
- 17:56Speaker 1: picked up seven wins for a White Sox team that
- 17:59Speaker 1: current is on a seventeen game losing streak and has
- 18:02Speaker 1: twenty seven wins total. So that just shows you like
- 18:05Speaker 1: how deep he's going in games, and you put a
- 18:07Speaker 1: bullpen like Saint Louis behind that start, like it can
- 18:12Speaker 1: be a very significant pitcher, I think down the stretch
- 18:15Speaker 1: that can make a lot of just headway in those
- 18:19Speaker 1: leagues where you are dealing with wins, where you're dealing
- 18:22Speaker 1: with trying to come back in some of your rot categories,
- 18:25Speaker 1: because he's going to give you volume as well in
- 18:28Speaker 1: terms of being able to give you six or seven
- 18:31Speaker 1: innings every start and really allow that era and whip
- 18:35Speaker 1: to slowly kind of like it's a little bit like
- 18:37Speaker 1: a like a river like cutting through like you know,
- 18:42Speaker 1: a bunch of rock or something that it just takes
- 18:44Speaker 1: a little time, but we do have two months left
- 18:46Speaker 1: in our fantasy season for Eric Fetti's era and whip
- 18:50Speaker 1: to work that magic for you.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and to your point, he does go deep in games,
- 18:54Speaker 2: and so that's always a good thing as you're trying
- 18:56Speaker 2: to fill things out the end of the season. I
- 18:58Speaker 2: think you go back to the beginning of June, he's
- 19:01Speaker 2: made nine starts since that point, six of them he's
- 19:03Speaker 2: gotten too, he's completed, he's gotten to the seventh thing,
- 19:06Speaker 2: he's complete at least six innings, and so some of
- 19:08Speaker 2: those he's gotten the eighth as well. So like he's
- 19:10Speaker 2: going deep, deep into games, which is just that's not
- 19:15Speaker 2: not normal, and that's the some of the allure here.
- 19:18Speaker 2: He's not going to blow you out of the water,
- 19:20Speaker 2: but there's a lot of value we had.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yes, I totally agree. Okay, well, let's stay in LA
- 19:25Speaker 1: for our next trade, and that is Jack Flaherty moving
- 19:28Speaker 1: from Detroit to LA being traded for Tyron Duranzo and
- 19:34Speaker 1: Trey Sweeney. So Jack flerty probably the most frontline player
- 19:39Speaker 1: that was traded here at this deadline, partly because I
- 19:43Speaker 1: mean I think people have maybe lost track of what
- 19:45Speaker 1: he was doing up in Detroit because if you didn't
- 19:48Speaker 1: have him on your team and had lost him early
- 19:51Speaker 1: on in the season to let free agent pickups and
- 19:54Speaker 1: waiver wires and maybe somebody did take a dart throw
- 19:57Speaker 1: on him at the end of your draft. It's been incredible.
- 20:00Speaker 1: It's been borderline cy Young level work in terms of
- 20:03Speaker 1: a two ninety five RA over one hundred and six
- 20:06Speaker 1: and two thirds with an eleven point two K nine
- 20:09Speaker 1: for the Tigers, the same seven wins as Eric Vetti.
- 20:13Speaker 1: That will be I mean, this is the perfect landing spot.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I think if you had Jack flarerty and as he
- 20:19Speaker 1: moves to the Dodgers, you're looking at a chance, you know,
- 20:23Speaker 1: maybe another five to seven wins down the stretch, assuming
- 20:26Speaker 1: Flarity has been battling a back issue a little bit
- 20:29Speaker 1: here and there. But I do think that the Dodgers
- 20:32Speaker 1: have the personnel to be able to handle that. And
- 20:36Speaker 1: I think what also makes this trade probably the most
- 20:39Speaker 1: interesting overall is Loronzo is probably the best prospect that
- 20:44Speaker 1: moved at this deadline. I think that's maybe what made
- 20:47Speaker 1: it a little bit less exciting than other deadlines, is
- 20:49Speaker 1: that we didn't have really front line prospects moving back
- 20:53Speaker 1: and forth from teams, and Loronzo is a little bit
- 20:57Speaker 1: of an unknown too because he is only in High
- 21:01Speaker 1: A for the Dodgers. He's a catcher for space prospect
- 21:05Speaker 1: who has really crazy power. You can see it in
- 21:08Speaker 1: a ball. Last year he hit twenty four bombs with
- 21:10Speaker 1: a two ninety ISO. Great walk rates. The k rates
- 21:14Speaker 1: are high, but I think that's just kind of what
- 21:17Speaker 1: the modern player is. Traceweeney, I was kind of in
- 21:22Speaker 1: on Trace Weeney coming into the season, but I'm not
- 21:24Speaker 1: anymore because you look at the Dodgers' middle infield situation
- 21:28Speaker 1: and they never called up Tray Wheeney. I think there's
- 21:30Speaker 1: a reason for that, and so maybe he finds a
- 21:33Speaker 1: spot in Detroit. But I think if you're looking in
- 21:35Speaker 1: a dynasty situation, the Ronzo's probably the piece to hone
- 21:40Speaker 1: in on. And obviously Flaherty's got a huge up arrow here.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Anything else that you're maybe looking for in Flarty's game
- 21:48Speaker 1: going forward with the Dodgers that could take him to
- 21:52Speaker 1: I mean, he's been a top ten pitcher this season,
- 21:55Speaker 1: and do you think he stays there moving to LA
- 21:58Speaker 1: and battling that back issue.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm gonna say I don't think he
- 22:03Speaker 2: stays quite where he's at, and it's not from a
- 22:05Speaker 2: skilled perspective, Jack Flaherty. He has a little bit of
- 22:09Speaker 2: Zach grinkianton as far as the lights can get to him,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and so I think he went over to Detroit. He
- 22:15Speaker 2: was kind of scoring with some things that happened in
- 22:17Speaker 2: Saint Louis and was like out to get him things
- 22:21Speaker 2: like that, and I do worry that he goes to
- 22:24Speaker 2: LA and a little bit of the strong lights, the pressure.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I think that that could have an impact on him,
- 22:30Speaker 2: and I think it's going to bring him down a
- 22:31Speaker 2: little bit from a quality perspective, pure speculation, just I
- 22:35Speaker 2: think there's something to be said there for the way
- 22:38Speaker 2: he's handled things in the past, with his approach to
- 22:42Speaker 2: the game. We'll just leave with that. But it is
- 22:46Speaker 2: also an interesting trade because I look at the return
- 22:49Speaker 2: to your point, probably the best starter on the market,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and you have to just quin right, you have to
- 22:53Speaker 2: squint in here and look at it. Go Tray Sweening
- 22:56Speaker 2: for my first round pick. And he's hit well in
- 22:59Speaker 2: the miners. There's nothing he's really done bad, but it's
- 23:02Speaker 2: all been like it's just say, just about average, and
- 23:05Speaker 2: so he looks like a backup utility player at this point.
- 23:11Speaker 2: And then to your Pointzo like, yeah, you can swim
- 23:15Speaker 2: and look at it, but the guy's a long ways away. Yes, yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 2: And so really the interesting news here was that the
- 23:21Speaker 2: Tigers and Yankees basically had a deal done with Flarity,
- 23:26Speaker 2: then scuttled it due to medical records at the last second.
- 23:30Speaker 2: And so I think this Dodgers Flaarty deal came together
- 23:32Speaker 2: at the last second, and I think that actually kind
- 23:36Speaker 2: of probably diminished the return that the Tigers got for Flarity,
- 23:40Speaker 2: because you know, I would have expected a decent prospect
- 23:43Speaker 2: for Flarity, like a single, like top ten prospect for
- 23:47Speaker 2: And again, not nothing against the Loronzo here, because I
- 23:50Speaker 2: think he's good. I just would have expected more. And
- 23:54Speaker 2: I think really there there was a better deal in place,
- 23:56Speaker 2: it sounds like, and it fell through for your point
- 23:59Speaker 2: from the medical perspective. So it'll be interesting to see
- 24:02Speaker 2: what happens there with Flaherty. I'm still keeping him up
- 24:08Speaker 2: towards the top of the picture rankings, but I'm gonna
- 24:11Speaker 2: drop him down a few spots just for grins.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. Okay, Well, let's move
- 24:17Speaker 1: on to the most significant bat that moved, and that
- 24:19Speaker 1: is Randy Rose. Arena going from Tampa to Seattle for
- 24:23Speaker 1: Aiden Smith and Brody Hopkins and a player to be
- 24:26Speaker 1: named later, and for Randy, I mean, this was a
- 24:31Speaker 1: pretty nice spot for him to land. I don't love
- 24:35Speaker 1: the park, but I do love that he's going to
- 24:38Speaker 1: walk right into hitting in the two or three hole
- 24:41Speaker 1: in Seattle, and I think it's just a situation where
- 24:45Speaker 1: he can provide a little extra life there. And if
- 24:48Speaker 1: you weren't paying attention, like if you look at overall
- 24:52Speaker 1: his overall stat line, it is a little rough with
- 24:54Speaker 1: the two nineteen average that he has on the season,
- 24:57Speaker 1: but before he moved to Seattle from June first through
- 25:02Speaker 1: when he was traded on Thursday, so this was a
- 25:04Speaker 1: little bit of an early deal in the deadline. Uh
- 25:07Speaker 1: So that was July twenty fifth. That is a forty
- 25:11Speaker 1: four game span. He was hitting two eighty four with
- 25:15Speaker 1: seven homers and nine stolen bases. So he was kind
- 25:19Speaker 1: of rounding back into form and I think he is
- 25:22Speaker 1: on track to once it's all said and done, you're
- 25:24Speaker 1: gonna see a pretty classic I think Randy a Rose
- 25:27Speaker 1: of rain a season at the end of the of
- 25:29Speaker 1: the year in terms of, you know, something like a
- 25:31Speaker 1: twenty five twenty five with a two forty to two
- 25:34Speaker 1: fifty average, and so as he continues down that path
- 25:38Speaker 1: with Seattle, I guess maybe my question here is actually
- 25:41Speaker 1: more of a dynasty question because in Tampa he certainly
- 25:46Speaker 1: was comfortable and had been producing and up until you know,
- 25:52Speaker 1: this season where the batting average dripped or dropped in total.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Do you think that, like there's maybe a little bit
- 26:00Speaker 1: of a dent in his value going forward because he
- 26:02Speaker 1: is in Seattle. We have talked about in the Pod
- 26:04Speaker 1: the past few times that we are avoiding Seattle based
- 26:09Speaker 1: players just because it's such a rough park. And does
- 26:12Speaker 1: Randy rose Arena fall into that bucket for you?
- 26:16Speaker 2: I think he generally does, Maybe not as much as
- 26:19Speaker 2: some players because this the balance of speed that he
- 26:23Speaker 2: has and he's a little bit more of a line
- 26:24Speaker 2: drive hitter, but I think it does it. It does
- 26:27Speaker 2: take a bite out of his power. I think, you know,
- 26:30Speaker 2: some people are probably undervaluing right now because he had
- 26:32Speaker 2: a really rough first two months. He was baby up
- 26:36Speaker 2: to death to a degree there, and so I think
- 26:40Speaker 2: that he gets a let's call it ninety percent a
- 26:43Speaker 2: Rose Arena in Tampa Bay is what you're getting in Seattle,
- 26:45Speaker 2: which is still really good. Right. Rose Arena was a
- 26:48Speaker 2: top you know, three, top four round draft picked and
- 26:52Speaker 2: what kind of leagues set up you were in probably two? Yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 2: probably probably stuck in there as well. And so maybe
- 26:59Speaker 2: knock down a half around or around next year. But
- 27:03Speaker 2: I think he's gonna probably drop even further because the
- 27:05Speaker 2: overall stat line is just not going to look as
- 27:07Speaker 2: good because of those really really rough few months. But
- 27:10Speaker 2: to your point, the last two months, he's been solid.
- 27:13Speaker 2: He's been who he was, he is who he thought
- 27:15Speaker 2: he was a type of thing here. So I like this,
- 27:20Speaker 2: to your point, that team is rough from a park perspective,
- 27:25Speaker 2: rough from scoring perspective, So i'd knock him down, but
- 27:29Speaker 2: I also would look at this possible buying opportunity, right
- 27:33Speaker 2: because if you know, if all the articles out there
- 27:35Speaker 2: are talking that he is lost losing value, it's hard
- 27:38Speaker 2: park to go to, like, and he hasn't performed his
- 27:41Speaker 2: best this year, so the Razors selling low, Like, if
- 27:43Speaker 2: that's the view of the your league mates that own
- 27:46Speaker 2: a Rose Arena, capitalize take advantage of it. I don't
- 27:51Speaker 2: think he's a bad buy at this point. I just
- 27:54Speaker 2: don't expect the Tampa version.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I think that is very fair. Okay, well,
- 27:59Speaker 1: let's stay Florida based, as we kind of alluded to
- 28:03Speaker 1: at the beginning of the show. As I think this
- 28:05Speaker 1: is probably where the marquee cuts off in terms of
- 28:09Speaker 1: like the big names that moved at the deadline, and
- 28:12Speaker 1: that is Jazz Chisholm Junior moving from Miami up to
- 28:17Speaker 1: New York where he looks like he might be the
- 28:20Speaker 1: everyday third baseman now, which he had never played before
- 28:23Speaker 1: until he got to New York, but has looked slick
- 28:26Speaker 1: there and has been incredibly hot, hitting two homers in
- 28:32Speaker 1: both of his first games with the Yankees. This is
- 28:36Speaker 1: probably like the perfect spot you could have imagined for
- 28:40Speaker 1: Jazz if you were. I owned him in any leagues
- 28:43Speaker 1: out there, and I did have some shares. So this
- 28:46Speaker 1: is playing out beautifully because that right field porch in
- 28:51Speaker 1: Yankee Stadium in the Bronx is perfect for Jazz to
- 28:54Speaker 1: just attack and be able to go at. I think
- 28:56Speaker 1: this is a great situation for him to be able
- 28:59Speaker 1: to be seen and which kind of in between all
- 29:01Speaker 1: those big boppers with Aaron Judge and did I say
- 29:07Speaker 1: Stanton already? No, Stanton at Judge and Soto being there
- 29:12Speaker 1: and so Ben Rice as well. So it is a
- 29:15Speaker 1: pretty dynamic offense now once you add jazz to it
- 29:19Speaker 1: when it was struggling, and you can see that with
- 29:22Speaker 1: the Yankees have turned it around a little bit with
- 29:25Speaker 1: have fired off quite a little like mini winning streak
- 29:28Speaker 1: with jazz and look to be, you know, right on
- 29:31Speaker 1: the heels of the Orioles going forward. So I think
- 29:34Speaker 1: certainly a huge up earrow there if you are a
- 29:36Speaker 1: jazz chiselmowner. And then the return for the Marlins was
- 29:40Speaker 1: centered around Augustin Vermirez, who has been a breakout catcher
- 29:44Speaker 1: down there or well he's now down in Miami, but
- 29:48Speaker 1: he was obviously with the Yankees and was in Double A.
- 29:52Speaker 1: But we talked about him all the way back. I'll
- 29:57Speaker 1: look it up, but very early the season in terms
- 30:00Speaker 1: of like breakout bats when we were talking about Adrian
- 30:02Speaker 1: Delcastillo and other catchers, because he does look like a
- 30:05Speaker 1: really fantastic, ready to go bat first catcher who I
- 30:10Speaker 1: don't know if he's gonna get a shot this year,
- 30:13Speaker 1: but I could totally see Ramirez breaking camp as the
- 30:16Speaker 1: everyday Marlin's catcher next spring. So, Brew, is this finally
- 30:22Speaker 1: gonna pull you around on Jazz him moving to New
- 30:25Speaker 1: York and give me a few thoughts on August and
- 30:27Speaker 1: Ramirez as well.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Yeah, not quite. But I think it's because my expectation
- 30:34Speaker 2: for Jazz increased and we talked last week and I'm
- 30:36Speaker 2: gonna I'm gonna take my victory lap. This is the
- 30:38Speaker 2: one I call like, Jazz is going to New York,
- 30:41Speaker 2: and I think it's gonna be great for his value,
- 30:43Speaker 2: and I think it is. I think the problem is
- 30:45Speaker 2: what he's did in these first two games raised that
- 30:48Speaker 2: bar so high. Plus we had a third base positioning
- 30:50Speaker 2: right all of a sudden, everyone's like, look at this,
- 30:52Speaker 2: and so I think that, like, I'm raising my value
- 30:55Speaker 2: and then I look across the isle and the next
- 30:58Speaker 2: guy's raising their value even more, and so I'm I'm
- 31:01Speaker 2: probably I'm excited about it. I really like his You're
- 31:05Speaker 2: right that that short porch like it's it's funny you
- 31:07Speaker 2: actually look at like stat casts and the projections and
- 31:09Speaker 2: things like that, and it's there's definitely a few more
- 31:12Speaker 2: homers you would have this year. Lots of weird calculations
- 31:15Speaker 2: around park factors things like that, But ultimately it's a
- 31:18Speaker 2: good move for him, and I think it's also one
- 31:21Speaker 2: of those you know what stat cast doesn't take in
- 31:24Speaker 2: consideration when it's doing those calculations on how many other
- 31:26Speaker 2: home runs is approach jestism now knows he has a
- 31:30Speaker 2: short right field porch where in Miami didn't exist. There
- 31:35Speaker 2: was not a porch to start with right it wasn't
- 31:39Speaker 2: as palatable. So yep, I like Jazz here. I like it.
- 31:43Speaker 2: It's I still have the injury concerns. I still have
- 31:45Speaker 2: the consistency concerns. I've always had a jazz But I
- 31:48Speaker 2: think his arrow is absolutely up. It's just gonna be
- 31:52Speaker 2: up more because of the the blitz he took out
- 31:54Speaker 2: the gate. But to your point, Augustin Ramirez, here, I
- 32:00Speaker 2: absolutely love this guy. He is one of the best,
- 32:06Speaker 2: let's say, catching prospects we've had in a while. I
- 32:09Speaker 2: don't want to compare him like an ad or something
- 32:11Speaker 2: like that. That's unfair to everybody. But we're talking about
- 32:15Speaker 2: a guy here that has good power, a little sneaky speed,
- 32:21Speaker 2: hits for average line drive hitter, doesn't strike out like
- 32:25Speaker 2: he just does everything really really well, and he sounds
- 32:28Speaker 2: like he's gonna stick at catcher and there's what's blocking
- 32:33Speaker 2: him here here in Miami. I don't. I guess I
- 32:38Speaker 2: should go look at the the depth charts here to
- 32:40Speaker 2: see how far back we go behind Nick Fortes here,
- 32:44Speaker 2: Ali Sanchez, the backups, backup type type catcher. You know
- 32:49Speaker 2: that there's there's nothing else holding him back. So I
- 32:53Speaker 2: I'm I think he gets a shot this year. I
- 32:55Speaker 2: really do. I think I think the Marlins brought so
- 32:59Speaker 2: much young talent. I don't think they're gonna go for
- 33:02Speaker 2: it yet. And when I say go for it, I
- 33:05Speaker 2: I hate to say the word tanking, but I think
- 33:07Speaker 2: the Marlins are tanking to a degree where they're gonna
- 33:12Speaker 2: they have all these guys that they've just traded for
- 33:15Speaker 2: and they're gonna call a lot of them up come
- 33:17Speaker 2: late August, early September and kind of start to see
- 33:20Speaker 2: what the young things can do. But they've also solidified
- 33:23Speaker 2: their top three draft pick for for next year scenario here.
- 33:28Speaker 2: So I really like Ramirez. I think he's gonna be
- 33:30Speaker 2: one of those guys that once he gets called up,
- 33:33Speaker 2: he is a very impactful fantasy catcher. I don't expect
- 33:36Speaker 2: the speed to translate as well. Here, I think he's
- 33:39Speaker 2: more of an opportunistic runner, but a guy that you
- 33:43Speaker 2: know can hit twenty Homer's sneak five to ten bases,
- 33:47Speaker 2: hit two eighty, like maybe an old school Jonathan Lacroix,
- 33:52Speaker 2: new school JT. Real Muto, Like I see a little
- 33:56Speaker 2: bit that here in augustin Ramirez, So I really like
- 33:59Speaker 2: the deal for for Miami.
- 34:01Speaker 1: It's as well, Yeah, I think that's a grand like
- 34:06Speaker 1: a perfect take on a guest in Ramirez in terms
- 34:08Speaker 1: of like what he could be, and honestly, like it
- 34:11Speaker 1: might not hurt in dynasty situations where if he does
- 34:15Speaker 1: come up and maybe struggle a little bit down the
- 34:17Speaker 1: stretch and the you know, the value dips just a
- 34:21Speaker 1: little bit, it might be a good buying opportunity. But
- 34:23Speaker 1: certainly I'm not huge on investing in catchers in dynasty leagues,
- 34:29Speaker 1: but when I find ones that I like, like Ben
- 34:32Speaker 1: Rice for example, it is certainly time to move those
- 34:36Speaker 1: chips in, and I think Ramirez is one of those
- 34:38Speaker 1: players I did find it. It's episode forty that we
- 34:42Speaker 1: recorded all the way back in mid April, is when
- 34:44Speaker 1: we talked about Ramirez in pretty good depth. Just he
- 34:49Speaker 1: was born one day before nine to eleven. That's kind
- 34:51Speaker 1: of crazy, like literally.
- 34:54Speaker 2: That's not the kind of facts that you want to use.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Two truths of the lies as he entered the Marlins organization.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's move on to the next trade, and
- 35:04Speaker 1: that is you say, Kakuchi moving from Toronto to Houston
- 35:08Speaker 1: in what was generally regarded as probably the biggest fleecing
- 35:12Speaker 1: of the deadline. But again, Kakuchi here is slotting into
- 35:16Speaker 1: the Houston rotation as the number two starter and probably
- 35:21Speaker 1: will move down to number three technically like once Verlander's back.
- 35:24Speaker 1: But I think he's certainly better than Verlander right now
- 35:27Speaker 1: at this point in his career. The it's another situation
- 35:32Speaker 1: where a little bit like Randy. The surface level stats
- 35:36Speaker 1: on Kokuchi look pretty groady with the four seventy five yar,
- 35:40Speaker 1: but once you dig into it a little bit, it
- 35:42Speaker 1: came with a three p forty bab up, which is
- 35:45Speaker 1: certainly generated a little bit by that Toronto turf as
- 35:49Speaker 1: well as just the probably apathy there. It's not exactly
- 35:52Speaker 1: the greatest defensive team either behind him, because he has
- 35:56Speaker 1: a three sixty five FIP in those one hundred and
- 35:59Speaker 1: fifteen two thirds the three with the Blue Jays to
- 36:02Speaker 1: go with a ten point one canine. I've talked about
- 36:06Speaker 1: on this pod many times how much I love you
- 36:08Speaker 1: say Kakuchi, and I think this is a fantastic landing
- 36:12Speaker 1: spot for him. So before we get into the return
- 36:14Speaker 1: for Kakuchi, I wanted to see, is this something that
- 36:18Speaker 1: you are maybe like, I'm certainly out there look into
- 36:21Speaker 1: to buy Kakuchi with this move, given that it can
- 36:25Speaker 1: add to the wind total, and you would hope that
- 36:27Speaker 1: he's got a better defense behind him and just hope
- 36:29Speaker 1: that the FIP kind of catches up to that era
- 36:32Speaker 1: a little bit, or do you think that there's something
- 36:34Speaker 1: else in the profile that is generating that gap between
- 36:37Speaker 1: his era and FIP.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I hate to say I am a little nervous
- 36:43Speaker 2: here with Kakuchi. And so you know, if you look
- 36:45Speaker 2: at the last eight starts, he's got thirty eight and
- 36:49Speaker 2: a third innings that he's he's managed and some elementrics
- 36:53Speaker 2: look pretty decent. He's he struck out almost twelve and
- 36:56Speaker 2: a half guys per nine. He's kept the walks about
- 36:59Speaker 2: too half for nine. That looks pretty gush. Urn good
- 37:02Speaker 2: era is a paltry seven point seventy five during that time. Yes,
- 37:07Speaker 2: it's almost a four hundred babep everybody. He's not leaving
- 37:11Speaker 2: guys on base. The home runs are flying out everywhere,
- 37:16Speaker 2: and so I do think he's been hit with some
- 37:18Speaker 2: poor luck. But for me, again we've talked about this,
- 37:23Speaker 2: I think last week, there's only so many starts you're
- 37:25Speaker 2: going to get from the guy the rest of the season,
- 37:28Speaker 2: and when you're trending that way, it's it's always one
- 37:31Speaker 2: of those like, yeah, there is some luck there, but
- 37:33Speaker 2: there's gonna be some time that you need to normalize.
- 37:36Speaker 2: There's enough red flags that I'm not strongly investing in Kokuchi.
- 37:41Speaker 2: If he's out there and he's available for pretty much free,
- 37:44Speaker 2: I think I might take a flyer and see if
- 37:46Speaker 2: if he kind of rites the ship. But I don't
- 37:49Speaker 2: really love the fly bat ball profile that he has
- 37:52Speaker 2: playing in Houston with that short left field porch. So
- 37:56Speaker 2: I'm a little little leery of Kokuchi going to Houston,
- 38:00Speaker 2: even though better offense, better defense, all those other things
- 38:03Speaker 2: said terrible luck and I will own his fifth or
- 38:06Speaker 2: that time frame is four point seventy five. His ex
- 38:09Speaker 2: FIP is three point two seven, So like there is
- 38:11Speaker 2: a ton of poor luck that he's had. I just
- 38:14Speaker 2: can't fully discount that. Honestly, I love this for Joey Loperfido,
- 38:18Speaker 2: So I think that's that's that's my takeaway here. I
- 38:22Speaker 2: want to see that guy get a chance to do something,
- 38:24Speaker 2: and I think he's gonna play every day in Toronto.
- 38:27Speaker 2: So I don't know. Maybe I'm a little too neg
- 38:29Speaker 2: of a Kukucci, but I'm gonna say you're also too
- 38:32Speaker 2: positive in Kukucci. So we we even out that is
- 38:36Speaker 2: still us Kukuci, yes.
- 38:38Speaker 1: And then I mean the return there that went back
- 38:41Speaker 1: to Toronto is Joey lo Berfido, Jake bloss starting pitcher,
- 38:47Speaker 1: and Will Wagner an infielder who's Billy Wagner's son. Because
- 38:51Speaker 1: you know, if it's a former former player's son, the
- 38:55Speaker 1: blue Jay's got to have him. So I'm sure once
- 38:57Speaker 1: they figure that out, like yep, we'll you got to
- 39:00Speaker 1: get in this. I'm with you that it looks like
- 39:04Speaker 1: low Brafido should walk into an everyday job in Toronto
- 39:08Speaker 1: and hit at the top of that order and just
- 39:10Speaker 1: kind of be given time to figure it out at
- 39:13Speaker 1: the major league level, which he wasn't getting down in
- 39:15Speaker 1: Houston and another player that we've talked about quite a
- 39:19Speaker 1: bit over our time here on this podcast, So certainly
- 39:24Speaker 1: go back and check out some of the other deep
- 39:26Speaker 1: dives that we've done on him. I'm trying to see
- 39:29Speaker 1: we've talked about him on forty six was when one
- 39:34Speaker 1: of those where like remember that blip where he was
- 39:37Speaker 1: like up and down again? Yeah, and then when he
- 39:40Speaker 1: debuted as well. That podcast will be I'm not going
- 39:45Speaker 1: to look it up because it's kind of I'm not
- 39:47Speaker 1: gonna lie the sometimes our search function on rasball is
- 39:51Speaker 1: a little not the best, but certainly, like if you
- 39:55Speaker 1: also want to see some of these players are talking about,
- 39:58Speaker 1: go to the post for this podcast en ras Ball,
- 40:02Speaker 1: go into the tags and you can dig through and
- 40:03Speaker 1: see some of these players. And it's especially really you'll
- 40:06Speaker 1: see like just me hammering the Michael McGreevy news like
- 40:10Speaker 1: over and over and over. That'd be great, But yeah,
- 40:13Speaker 1: I'm I'm with you. This is a great opportunity for
- 40:16Speaker 1: Joey lo berfdo. So I'm sure there are plenty of
- 40:18Speaker 1: leagues where he was still sitting out there on the
- 40:20Speaker 1: waiver wire just kind of in limbo in Houston and
- 40:25Speaker 1: I think this is a great time to pick him
- 40:26Speaker 1: up and just see what he can do in Toronto.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I mean, do you think that he rounds into like
- 40:34Speaker 1: a player that might be capable in keeper situations just
- 40:37Speaker 1: because of the opportunity up there in Toronto.
- 40:40Speaker 2: I don't have high hopes here. I'm maybe a fifty
- 40:43Speaker 2: to fifty is kind of where I'm at there, and
- 40:45Speaker 2: more on a dynasty league, you're not talking about like
- 40:47Speaker 2: a sixth player keeper. He's definitely not in consideration there.
- 40:50Speaker 2: But you know he's he's expected to splot in here
- 40:53Speaker 2: really like between Springer and Guerrero in the lineup, like
- 40:56Speaker 2: he'll have some protection, he'll get a chance to run,
- 40:59Speaker 2: do those kind of thing. So I think that, you know,
- 41:02Speaker 2: he'll get the chance to run, and I think he
- 41:03Speaker 2: can force his way into more of that dynasty conversation
- 41:07Speaker 2: of the guys you want to keep kind of the
- 41:09Speaker 2: back of your outfield for you know, a buck on
- 41:11Speaker 2: a keeper contract. I definitely think he's going to force
- 41:14Speaker 2: that conversation. But what I love about it is we
- 41:17Speaker 2: will find out, like it's I it would have been
- 41:20Speaker 2: one of those things if he stayed in Houston. I
- 41:21Speaker 2: think we would have got to the end of the
- 41:23Speaker 2: year and I'm like, I wish I knew what Joey
- 41:24Speaker 2: Luperpido was. I think when he gets the end of
- 41:27Speaker 2: the year in Toronto, we will know. And I think
- 41:29Speaker 2: that's that's that's the good news for for for this move.
- 41:32Speaker 2: So I also love and we talked about it last
- 41:35Speaker 2: week Spencer Horwitz. He's gonna be back clean up here
- 41:38Speaker 2: for the Blue Jays, and so I love I love
- 41:41Speaker 2: that for Horwitz.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fantastic. Yeah, especially when you've got Springer Low
- 41:45Speaker 1: Perfido and Flat Junior out in front of you. That's
- 41:48Speaker 1: a great kind of table setting. I also want to
- 41:51Speaker 1: call out Jake Bloss moving over to Toronto because I
- 41:54Speaker 1: think he's a really interesting arm and I was surprised
- 41:57Speaker 1: that the astro has moved on to him. He's got
- 41:59Speaker 1: a really really dirty slider. It's like a one forty
- 42:01Speaker 1: five stuff plus slider that I think he will stick
- 42:05Speaker 1: in the rotation long term. And they did option him
- 42:09Speaker 1: to triple A in Toronto just because they're I'm guessing
- 42:13Speaker 1: maybe trying to preserve their his arm a little bit
- 42:15Speaker 1: and obviously play with his service time a little bit,
- 42:19Speaker 1: as they do have lots of veteran pitchers still up
- 42:22Speaker 1: there in Toronto to be able to just kind of
- 42:24Speaker 1: like run out and finish out the season. But certainly
- 42:27Speaker 1: keep an eye on bloss as he's you know, in
- 42:30Speaker 1: Triple A Buffalo right now and should get the call
- 42:33Speaker 1: back up in Toronto soon. I've been including him in
- 42:37Speaker 1: my piece recently that I thought he was a great
- 42:41Speaker 1: piece down in Houston. I was surprised to see a move.
- 42:43Speaker 1: He was a second round pick last year. Just really
- 42:46Speaker 1: great repertoire. The other person I want to bring up
- 42:49Speaker 1: is this also opens an opportunity for patro Lee home
- 42:52Speaker 1: finally in Houston, who's been there forever. It seems like
- 42:56Speaker 1: he signed out of Cuba and was a huge prospect
- 43:01Speaker 1: when he did so back in twenty twenty one. The
- 43:04Speaker 1: talk was actually like back when he signed that he
- 43:07Speaker 1: might be like hitting the majors right away, but has
- 43:10Speaker 1: just slow roasted down in Triple A for three straight years.
- 43:14Speaker 1: That's where actually four like he's been in Triple A
- 43:17Speaker 1: twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, twenty four, and you
- 43:19Speaker 1: can see why. Like the strikeout rate is tough, but
- 43:22Speaker 1: like he does walk, got fantastic speed, and I want
- 43:27Speaker 1: to see, like, do you think like he is worth
- 43:29Speaker 1: taking a flyer on in significantly like deep deep leagues,
- 43:33Speaker 1: because certainly Chas McCormick has struggled in Houston, much to
- 43:39Speaker 1: my sadness, because we in the offseason certainly were very
- 43:44Speaker 1: high on Chas McCormick and when he did last year
- 43:46Speaker 1: at the barrel rates but hasn't been able to put
- 43:48Speaker 1: back together. There is a path for Leone to find
- 43:51Speaker 1: regular at bats, I think in the Houston lineup, as
- 43:54Speaker 1: he has put up a one to twenty WRC plus
- 43:56Speaker 1: finally in Triple A this year seems to maybe a
- 43:59Speaker 1: finally put together some of the pieces Houston wanted him to.
- 44:03Speaker 1: But I wanted to get your take on this. What
- 44:05Speaker 1: what do you see in Petro Leon's profile and do
- 44:09Speaker 1: you think he can be usable in deeper leagues maybe
- 44:13Speaker 1: the rest of the season.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Yeah, this is one of those I'm probably sitting on
- 44:17Speaker 2: the sideline with Leon Leone, I think, watching to see
- 44:20Speaker 2: what's happening here. And to your point, like his profile,
- 44:23Speaker 2: like his well, his statline, right, his stat line is
- 44:26Speaker 2: pretty pretty solid. Like the guy runs, you know, he
- 44:30Speaker 2: hits her power, he seems to produce, but At the
- 44:34Speaker 2: same time, when he runs, he's not that efficient at it.
- 44:38Speaker 2: He gets thrown out like, well, what thirty percent of
- 44:42Speaker 2: the time. Uh, it's it's he's not a very efficient
- 44:46Speaker 2: runner at that. He does have some some strikeout concerns
- 44:51Speaker 2: and he's definitely had some babe of luck things like that.
- 44:55Speaker 2: And you know, when I look at a guy like
- 44:58Speaker 2: him that does hit the ball in the air a ton,
- 45:01Speaker 2: but yet really relies on the home run ball, it's
- 45:06Speaker 2: a concerning profile. The biggest red flag for me though,
- 45:09Speaker 2: is he has spent the last four years in Triple
- 45:13Speaker 2: A for Houston, and guys like Joelo Praffido are stopping
- 45:20Speaker 2: in checking it out and moving along. You know, that
- 45:23Speaker 2: tells me something that Houston's looked at and go, I
- 45:26Speaker 2: don't think your game translates. I do think he's one
- 45:28Speaker 2: of those guys that I don't think he can't actually
- 45:32Speaker 2: translate as well to the majors with that profile. If
- 45:35Speaker 2: he gets up, I don't think he runs. I don't
- 45:38Speaker 2: think the Homers are where it is because he does
- 45:41Speaker 2: have more of i'll call it a cab Brian Hayes
- 45:44Speaker 2: type profile, or he doesn't get in the air enough
- 45:49Speaker 2: and then I think he gets exploded from the k's
- 45:50Speaker 2: rate perspective. So I hate say, poor man Brian Hayes,
- 45:54Speaker 2: and that's not a good endorsement. And so that's kind
- 45:57Speaker 2: of what I see with Peter Leone. So I could
- 46:00Speaker 2: be very wrong, because if he does what he did
- 46:02Speaker 2: in Triple A for the last three years in the
- 46:05Speaker 2: major leagues, it's great. I just don't think that that's
- 46:08Speaker 2: what's going to translate.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, I think that's fair enough. All Right. We
- 46:12Speaker 1: are powering through these trades onto the next one, as
- 46:15Speaker 1: we have the Rays and Cubs swapping third baseman as
- 46:19Speaker 1: Esach Parades gets moved back to the Cubs, the team
- 46:23Speaker 1: that originally signed him, so it's a little bit of
- 46:26Speaker 1: a homecoming there as he slots right into the starting
- 46:29Speaker 1: third base job in Chicago, and Christopher Morrell was moved
- 46:33Speaker 1: down to Tampa Bay along with Hunter Big and Ty Johnson,
- 46:38Speaker 1: as he kind of like Jazz, has really taken off
- 46:42Speaker 1: in the new role down in Tampa, and I think
- 46:45Speaker 1: that's maybe actually a sign of things to come. Just
- 46:48Speaker 1: watching Christopher Morrell play over the past couple months, it
- 46:51Speaker 1: was very evident that Craig Council did not like playing
- 46:55Speaker 1: him in the field that he was starting to play
- 46:57Speaker 1: a lot of DH and the errors that he was
- 46:59Speaker 1: made at third base, we're just really tainting the rest
- 47:03Speaker 1: of that overall profile, which is swing and miss. And
- 47:08Speaker 1: he's actually, like I've seen some social media posts of
- 47:11Speaker 1: Morel and Jose Siri have become fast friends, which is
- 47:14Speaker 1: absolutely perfect because they're kind of like the exact same
- 47:16Speaker 1: player in terms of like high energy, high swing, high speed,
- 47:22Speaker 1: just like all the way everything turned up to eleven.
- 47:25Speaker 1: So and I think you can kind of see where
- 47:28Speaker 1: I'm going with this that I love this for Christopher Morrel,
- 47:31Speaker 1: what it does for just like especially given that sort
- 47:34Speaker 1: of situation down in Tampa, that's I think more of
- 47:37Speaker 1: a fit for him as a just his personality. He
- 47:40Speaker 1: is a big personality in terms of wanting to have
- 47:42Speaker 1: fun and just kind of a little bit more youthful.
- 47:46Speaker 1: I think they'll fit into Tampa and they'll allow him
- 47:49Speaker 1: to lean into it. So I certainly have a big
- 47:52Speaker 1: up arrow for Christopher Morrell. For Prenue, I think it's
- 47:55Speaker 1: maybe a down arrow to the flat just because the
- 47:59Speaker 1: big one year is Paradius's profile has always been built
- 48:03Speaker 1: on pulled fly balls, and it worked in Tampa because
- 48:07Speaker 1: right down that left field line there's a little bit
- 48:10Speaker 1: of like a just like a cutout where it's shorter
- 48:13Speaker 1: and you could hit lots of homers into there. Obviously
- 48:18Speaker 1: no wind factor that he'll have and Wrigly. In Wrigly,
- 48:21Speaker 1: the the wind isn't quite as beneficial to those homers
- 48:25Speaker 1: down the left field line. So I think it's going
- 48:27Speaker 1: to be tough for him. But the nice thing is,
- 48:29Speaker 1: I don't think you have to worry about the bottom
- 48:31Speaker 1: kind of falling out for him in Chicago. That he's
- 48:34Speaker 1: going to play every day. He's going to get his opportunities,
- 48:37Speaker 1: and you know, maybe Chicago also teaches him how to
- 48:41Speaker 1: hit the ball to all fields and develop his profile
- 48:44Speaker 1: a little bit. But maybe that's a little bit more
- 48:46Speaker 1: of a future thing. But what do you think? Am
- 48:50Speaker 1: I getting the read wrong here between the swap of
- 48:52Speaker 1: Paradis and Morrel and are you maybe this is I
- 48:57Speaker 1: think another good I don't know if you're gonna actually
- 48:59Speaker 1: gonna get much of a good price on Morell right now.
- 49:01Speaker 1: But if you could rewind back to when he got
- 49:04Speaker 1: traded to Tampa and before you hit these homers, would
- 49:07Speaker 1: you have been seeking to buy him.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're you're pretty pretty right on with
- 49:12Speaker 2: with with your assessment here. I do like Morrell moving
- 49:15Speaker 2: to Tampa. I think you're right like the personality uh fits.
- 49:19Speaker 2: This trade really to me felt like the Cubs just
- 49:23Speaker 2: trying to get rid of Christopher Morrell rather than anything else,
- 49:26Speaker 2: because I look at eastak radius and I'm sitting here
- 49:29Speaker 2: going I'm not excited by him whatsoever. And I just
- 49:34Speaker 2: for fun facts, have you looked at expected home runs
- 49:37Speaker 2: by park recently?
- 49:41Speaker 1: This is what I was hinting at. I didn't know
- 49:43Speaker 1: the exact number, so I was I was hoping you
- 49:45Speaker 1: would pull it up.
- 49:46Speaker 2: So so I got it. But I want to I
- 49:48Speaker 2: want to make it. I want to make an illustration
- 49:49Speaker 2: here because it's it's not you know. So he's hit
- 49:52Speaker 2: sixteen homers this year and regularly that would have been eleven,
- 49:55Speaker 2: so cut it about a third. But I want to
- 49:59Speaker 2: illustrate for you how ridiculous whole happy uh paratus is
- 50:05Speaker 2: he He has sixty nine career home runs. How many
- 50:08Speaker 2: would he have if he was batting in Camden, if
- 50:11Speaker 2: he was in Camden yards, how many home runs would
- 50:13Speaker 2: he have? Because remember they have this high left field
- 50:16Speaker 2: deep fence and it's it's a stark illustration, but it
- 50:21Speaker 2: shows you how ridiculous pole heavy he is. That literally
- 50:28Speaker 2: that's his only game. That is literally the guy's only game.
- 50:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess forty twenty seven what he would go
- 50:36Speaker 2: from sixty nine homers to twenty seven.
- 50:38Speaker 1: That's absurd.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Yes, he literally can't he to your point, like, he
- 50:44Speaker 2: literally has found that little like short porch there in
- 50:46Speaker 2: Tampa and just like puts it on the little picting
- 50:49Speaker 2: tables there constantly. That's all he's doing. And so I
- 50:53Speaker 2: look at this profile, and I'm like, can you is
- 50:56Speaker 2: it legal to shifts in the outfield? Like I need
- 50:58Speaker 2: to look at the rules, and if so, put a
- 51:01Speaker 2: guy in a ladder in the basket there and Wrigley
- 51:04Speaker 2: and you're fine. Like, I don't like this profile at all.
- 51:08Speaker 2: And so that's where I look at. I go Morrell
- 51:11Speaker 2: had a lot of upside. I don't see much upside here.
- 51:14Speaker 2: I think they were just trying to get rid of
- 51:15Speaker 2: the guys. Yeah, and so clearly I'm a little further
- 51:19Speaker 2: down on paradis than you were. But I like it
- 51:22Speaker 2: for morel I like the opportunity Paradius was just he's
- 51:26Speaker 2: such a unique player, and I don't know that that's
- 51:30Speaker 2: a good way.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can totally get on board with that. Okay,
- 51:36Speaker 1: on to the next trade. We are we're zooming here
- 51:40Speaker 1: and so then we are from two through say whereabout?
- 51:44Speaker 1: Oh wow? Yeah, we're only like a third of the
- 51:45Speaker 1: way through, so we gotta might have to chop off
- 51:48Speaker 1: some of these twenty eight. So the next one we
- 51:51Speaker 1: have is Jorge Hilaire, outfielder from the Giants, moved to
- 51:55Speaker 1: the Braves. Reunites with the Braves where he won an
- 51:58Speaker 1: mv MVP World Series World Series MVP in twenty twenty one.
- 52:03Speaker 1: And I mean he was crazy good down the stretch
- 52:07Speaker 1: for Atlanta when he played for them too. In fifty
- 52:10Speaker 1: five games when he was traded from Kansas City, he
- 52:12Speaker 1: hit He slashed two sixty nine three point fifty eight
- 52:15Speaker 1: five twenty four of fourteen bombs. So it wasn't just
- 52:20Speaker 1: that World Series. He's on fire. He really found a
- 52:23Speaker 1: new gear when he moved to Atlanta. He was hitting
- 52:28Speaker 1: two forty three point thirty four nineteen for San Francisco
- 52:31Speaker 1: with twelve homers before moving to Atlanta. My question here
- 52:36Speaker 1: is obviously, like, do you think he refindes that magic
- 52:39Speaker 1: that he had in twenty twenty one.
- 52:42Speaker 2: I don't know if he finds the full refines the
- 52:44Speaker 2: magic of twenty twenty one, but I think he's I
- 52:48Speaker 2: think he's definitely worth buying here. You look at the profile,
- 52:52Speaker 2: like he was hitting in San Francisco, and he also
- 52:56Speaker 2: had had some poor luck from a home run to
- 52:58Speaker 2: flyball ratio perspective, and so it was about half of
- 53:01Speaker 2: his career average. And so he's had some poor luck
- 53:06Speaker 2: when he's been, you know, hammering these long fly balls
- 53:10Speaker 2: in San Franz. So I otherwise, the profile looks almost
- 53:13Speaker 2: identical to what it was last year before the Giants
- 53:15Speaker 2: signed him to the big three year deal. So I
- 53:19Speaker 2: think that there's a lot to like here. I don't
- 53:21Speaker 2: see why he wouldn't be valuable as Atlanta, and I
- 53:24Speaker 2: think there is like getting that playoff race in the atmosphere,
- 53:28Speaker 2: he seemed so at home with Atlanta. I really like this.
- 53:32Speaker 2: I like this versa layer. I think you can reject
- 53:35Speaker 2: a little bit of growth, or again you'd be happy
- 53:37Speaker 2: with him just having a little bit of regression here
- 53:40Speaker 2: and popping up another ten to fifteen Homers the rest
- 53:43Speaker 2: of the way and not be surprised with it. And
- 53:46Speaker 2: there's not kind of like a poor average or anything.
- 53:48Speaker 2: He's sitting like two forty. It's not it's not Randy
- 53:52Speaker 2: rose Arena.
- 53:53Speaker 1: I was actually gonna say it's a little Randy a
- 53:55Speaker 1: Rosa Rna. Like he's hitting two forty on the season,
- 53:58Speaker 1: but since June first, he's been hitting two eighty, so
- 54:02Speaker 1: he's been feeling more comfortable and finding that old Jorge
- 54:04Speaker 1: Cilaire form. I mean, I guess another question here, what
- 54:08Speaker 1: about a dynasty by He signed four, twenty five and
- 54:12Speaker 1: twenty six and will be down in Atlanta, so the
- 54:16Speaker 1: Wolves will obviously be his like thirty three and thirty
- 54:19Speaker 1: four seasons. But I think the kind of path that
- 54:22Speaker 1: Atlanta is walking here is that they're not going to
- 54:24Speaker 1: pick up Marcelo Zuna's option in the offseason, and he's
- 54:28Speaker 1: just Hojorge Sailire is going to walk right into that
- 54:30Speaker 1: Atlanta d H job.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I think it is an interesting dynasty.
- 54:34Speaker 2: I feel like Solair, like going to San Francisco just
- 54:37Speaker 2: tanked his value, like people just kind of rote him off,
- 54:40Speaker 2: And yeah, I like him here and Solaire's only thirty two, Like,
- 54:46Speaker 2: doesn't it feel like he's like thirty eight.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Yeah, he's been around for a very long time, just
- 54:51Speaker 1: in terms of like the prospect circles and coming up
- 54:54Speaker 1: with that Cubs team and everything.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like I was ten years old when
- 54:58Speaker 2: we first started talking about him. Wasn't. By the way,
- 55:00Speaker 2: let's be.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Very clear, was Yes, maybe we were ten years old
- 55:04Speaker 1: when we started this pod. But okay, now to the next,
- 55:07Speaker 1: onto the next trade. We have got some significant trades. Now,
- 55:13Speaker 1: this is a this was ambitious of us. I love this.
- 55:17Speaker 1: The next one is Josh Bell moving to Arizona from Miami. Uh,
- 55:22Speaker 1: the switch hitter is traded again. He's just been constantly
- 55:26Speaker 1: on the move at deadlines over the past few years.
- 55:29Speaker 1: And this was a significant need for the Diamondbacks because
- 55:34Speaker 1: Christian Walker went down with an oblique strain and should
- 55:37Speaker 1: be out for I mean probably a month I would
- 55:40Speaker 1: guess minimum in terms of like what you're looking at
- 55:44Speaker 1: working your way back from a strain, because that is
- 55:47Speaker 1: also unfortunate if you were out there as a Christian
- 55:50Speaker 1: Walker owner. He was having another terrific season, But if
- 55:54Speaker 1: you are in a situation where you're shelving Christian Walker.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Are you maybe looking at Josh Bell's replacement, because this
- 56:01Speaker 1: is another guy who actually caught fire at the right time.
- 56:04Speaker 1: If I look back, I think it's in July. He
- 56:08Speaker 1: has hit uh with a one twenty one WRC plus
- 56:13Speaker 1: with six homers, so like it has been a pretty
- 56:17Speaker 1: nice little boost here. Obviously, the average is a little
- 56:20Speaker 1: low at two thirty six. That's why I sighted the
- 56:23Speaker 1: WRC plus. But because of the hot streak that Bell
- 56:27Speaker 1: has gone on the past month or so, I've been
- 56:32Speaker 1: slowly warming up to picking him up. Because this is
- 56:36Speaker 1: also a great landing spot in terms of overall park
- 56:39Speaker 1: because Miami is one of the worst for hitters, and
- 56:42Speaker 1: Arizona's starting to creep up to being one of the
- 56:45Speaker 1: best for hitters. Terrible for homers, but like good for
- 56:48Speaker 1: everything else, like Kansas City. So are you interested in
- 56:51Speaker 1: Josh Bell anywhere?
- 56:53Speaker 2: I think he's a plug and play for a short
- 56:56Speaker 2: time period to your point, Like he says six homers
- 56:59Speaker 2: and then five of those last seven games, Like he's
- 57:02Speaker 2: just he's on fire right now, and so if you
- 57:06Speaker 2: have that need for right now, I like it because
- 57:09Speaker 2: I think he's something you can plug in. He's hot,
- 57:12Speaker 2: take advantage while you figure out what you're doing. I
- 57:14Speaker 2: don't have him as like a hey, a tier replacement
- 57:18Speaker 2: long term, because Bell's profile is kind of streaky, and
- 57:23Speaker 2: so if you happen to be grabbing at the right time,
- 57:25Speaker 2: I like it, but I'm but I also think, like
- 57:29Speaker 2: read the Tea leaves, he was brought in because he
- 57:31Speaker 2: could fill the gap and then cost too much. And
- 57:35Speaker 2: when Walker gets back and things like that, he's gonna
- 57:38Speaker 2: get shuffled around. I don't think he's the playing time's
- 57:40Speaker 2: gonna be as good. And that's I think that's probably
- 57:42Speaker 2: right for Josh Bell, and that's kind of why he
- 57:45Speaker 2: keeps getting traded. It's kind of like he's just good
- 57:47Speaker 2: enough to fill in your spot and be a starter
- 57:49Speaker 2: until you don't need him as a starter.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, And it's this is certainly a situation
- 57:54Speaker 1: too where you just watch the schedule a lot too.
- 57:56Speaker 1: They will have it looks like in mid August another
- 58:00Speaker 1: series against Colorado, and then they have like Miami, which
- 58:06Speaker 1: was just kind of like a bunch of leftover players.
- 58:09Speaker 1: So certainly watch those matchups going forward. For Josh Bell,
- 58:12Speaker 1: I think it's going to be very dependent for his value,
- 58:15Speaker 1: and funny enough, the Diamondbacks and Marlins connected on another
- 58:20Speaker 1: trade a few days before, as Aj Puck moves to
- 58:23Speaker 1: Arizona in exchange for Davison de Los Santos and Puck
- 58:30Speaker 1: we had as an up arrow last week because we
- 58:32Speaker 1: thought that he was gonna end up in a situation
- 58:35Speaker 1: as the Miami closer. But I think this is where
- 58:38Speaker 1: one of those times when Peter Bendix the Diamondbacks came
- 58:44Speaker 1: to him with this trade handing over Davison Delo Santos,
- 58:49Speaker 1: and couldn't turn it down because I love del Santos.
- 58:53Speaker 1: We covered him as one of our breakout hitters for
- 58:56Speaker 1: the minor leagues. What do you think about him landing
- 58:59Speaker 1: here in Miami?
- 59:01Speaker 2: I like it, you know, I think as we talked
- 59:03Speaker 2: about Dayla Santos, it was kind of a question of
- 59:07Speaker 2: where did he fully fit for Arizona and when would
- 59:12Speaker 2: they make that play. And again it's kind of like
- 59:15Speaker 2: a Joey Loperfito feel here for Dla Santo's like, I think,
- 59:19Speaker 2: I think he plays and not to bear the lead
- 59:21Speaker 2: on the next trade that we'll probably talk about here,
- 59:23Speaker 2: But going back to that, to that concept that Miami
- 59:26Speaker 2: brought across a number of major league ready prospects. It's
- 59:31Speaker 2: not like they went deep down in. They brought Dala
- 59:34Speaker 2: Santos over, they they brought Ramirez over, and then I know,
- 59:39Speaker 2: we'll talk about it in just a second with Norby
- 59:41Speaker 2: and Stours, Like they literally could have half of their lineup,
- 59:45Speaker 2: these guys that just need an opportunity and they were
- 59:47Speaker 2: just trying to find their spot and they could be really,
- 59:50Speaker 2: really good. So I think he's up, you know again
- 59:54Speaker 2: here in a month and we're seeing what he is.
- 59:57Speaker 2: So I really like it because I think it's going
- 59:59Speaker 2: to give him that opportunity and I think his game
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: plays pretty well in Miami at the end of the day.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: So I like it, and you're right this. I feel
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: like this is one where they Miami got the call
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: and they're like, let me think about it. They got
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: the phone, they started fist pumping, like is it got
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: this one? Like, I mean again, I would have loved
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: to be in that room. I just think I think
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: it was just things were just falling in their lap
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: over there in Miami. They're like, can you reap? Can
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: you type that one up? And said it to me
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: just so I make sure I understood what you said.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: He's got an email like, I don't know you said who?
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: So Yeah, I like this. Uh, clearly a down arrow
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: for Puck from a perspective of not inheriting the closer
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: there in Miami, But I think Puck still maintains some
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: ratio and strikeout potential depending on the leagues you're in.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think you nailed it with Dla Santos.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I think this is a great spot for him in
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: terms of being able to come up. I also like
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: it if you've got him in dynasty leagues, in any
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: sort of keeper situations, being able to see what he
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: can do for a month, because he is such a
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: boom and bust profile that you don't know if this
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: is gonna be something that can work and like actually
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: turn into maybe something like a Jorge Celayer, or if
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: it's gonna turn into something more like a Fronmeal reyis.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: So trying to find that in between is tough. And
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: if we can see it for a month from Delos
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Santos before the season is over, that would be fantastic
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: for all those keeper situations out there. All right, Well,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: you alluded to it, and I bunched all of the
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Orioles trades here into this kind of little spot right here,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: So let's just cover them all. I'm gonna lay them
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: all out because they were probably outside of Miami selling everything.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: The Orioles were probably the most active in terms of
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: bringing pieces in and this doesn't even cover quite like
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: all of the little like minor moves but they made.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: But let's get into it first. You alluded to it.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: They acquired Trevor Rogers for Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: from Miami. That was that trade. The next trade was
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: they acquired Zach Eflin from Tampa Bay. Then they also
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: acquired Eloy him in As from Baltimore or from Chicago.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: He's in Baltimore now, but total salary dump out Chicago.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Just a total surprise and certainly something that white Sox
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: fans have been really strange about on social media that
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: like it's been quite the weird. Debate is like, yeah,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: it's I feel bad for some of the treatment that
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Eloi has gotten, but it's good that he can find
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: a new home and maybe like a training staff that
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: actually helps him. So with all that too, we've got
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Jackson Holliday coming back up because Jorge Mateo looks to
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: probably be out for the rest of the season with
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: a dislocated elbow. Cracked his first career home run as
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: we're speaking today on July thirty first. It was absolutely
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: a monster and I think that's exactly what Holiday needed
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: to kind of like break the floodgates open. But this
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: is a pretty big haul for Baltimore. And do you
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: think it's enough to put them over the edge and
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: really keep them in front of the Yankees down the stretch. Yeah.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: And I want to throw one more piece out of
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: the news with today. Jordan Westburg fracture his hands today
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: and so Kobe Mayo time very likely coming here. I
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: feel like we've said that before, but we'll see. Did
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: they do enough to maintain I think they did a lot.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: I don't know that they did what they needed to
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: do that. So we talked about this last week like
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: this is the time for the Orioles to clear the deck,
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: and they absolutely did. Like they absolutely did now Connor
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Norby for Kyle and Kyle Stowers for Treasure. Trevor Rodgers,
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure that one made sense. Yav Rodgers,
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: e Flyn I thought there's no nothing wrong with that.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Eloy like, why didn't you just keep Norby and not
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: bring in and pay time for Eloy? I'm not sure
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I was buying that one, And so I was very
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: fine with the Austin Did you mention the Austin Hayes deal?
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: And I just couldn't keep track?
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: But oh no, I didn't even get that. Yeah, I
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: was many of them, Yeah.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Sir, Anthony Dimega's and Christian Pachet for Austin Hayes. That
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: one made a lot of sense. You know, Hayes was
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: kind of shuffling, he needed a stars. Like I. It
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: just didn't have the cohesive feel of like we know
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: what we're doing here, we're trying to like we need
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: to get a few really good starters. I'm like, why
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: didn't you go bring in Jack Flaherty or Eric Betty
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: or a lot of other things? Why didn't you do them?
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: But you didn't trade Cakuchi. You traded from this depth
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: of all these guys. And again I'm just sitting here
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: in Miami and getting off that call and Connor Norby
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: for who Trevor Rodgers and fist pump Yeah, yep, yep,
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: I'm not sure that's gonna be a tough one. What
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: if we give Kyle Stowers too like that? So, yeah,
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: did they do enough? They did a lot. Did they
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: do enough? I think they're good enough team that, Yeah,
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: they probably could maintain that lead. I am disappointed for
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: what they did overall, outside of the fact that I
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: love the fact that it's cleared the deck so well
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: for so many players that we finally get to see
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: what Connor Norby is, what Kyle Stowers is, we get
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: to see Jackson holiday back, Kobe Mayo should be coming up,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Austin Hayes gets a reset. I love all of that
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: from a fantasy perspective because I think there's some really
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: really good players in there that are gonna have a
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: chance to flourish now.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I And I think I'm with you as well
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: that this is a little bit of like a confounding
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: deadline for me looking at the Orioles, because the Eloy
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: trade is strange, mostly because they're also saying that he
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: can maybe play some outfield. I don't. I've been watching
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: him runs.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure he can't.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he's barely moving like it and it's in It's
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: just not great. I don't think they can get him
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: ready to play the outfield quick enough. I think they
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: could get him there. The nice thing is that he
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: actually has two more club options, so if they can
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: turn him around, that could be a significant haul because
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: all they traded was a minor league reliever. The White Sox,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: even with just the club options, didn't want to pay
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: him whatever it was down the stretch for the rest
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: of twenty twenty four, which is just ridiculous. And I
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: do love the e Flen move, like I think it
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: is a very savvy move. The Trevor Rodgers move, I
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: just like I can't I'm trying to figure it out.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Like he has been solid over the past month in
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: terms of the era has come down, Like over the
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: past month, he's been able to put up I was
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: just looking at it and then was looking at something else,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: a three thirty eight era over his last twenty four innings.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: But the strikeouts haven't been there and the control come
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: back a little bit. The strikeouts haven't been there because
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: the velocity's not there. He's not twenty twenty one Trevor Rodgers.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I just don't know what Baltimore is seeing in him.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: And I think what they actually see is that he's
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: still pre ARB and so he's really cheap for the
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: next couple of years, and I think that's what Baltimore
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: likes about him, which is really sad considering everything else
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: that they have going on that they could have added
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: some pretty significant arms that make a big difference for them.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: And like you said, like I don't know why they
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: weren't in on the Fetti sweepstakes if they're looking for
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: something beyond this year. But yeah, we'll see how it
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: all kind of like settles. And I think we can
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: actually touch a little bit on the Austin Hayes going
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: to Philadelphia, because if there's like one person who I
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: think out of this trade deadline might be like the surprise,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: biggest up arrow, it might be Austin Hayes because he
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: couldn't find playing time in Baltimore, but he's already carving
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: a path out there in Philadelphia and seems rejuvenile by
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: I mean it's only two games, but like redrivenated by
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: the ability to like see that he can control his
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: own destiny in terms of getting played appearances, and especially
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: in that offense, it can be just a nice spot
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: to be able to hit at the bottom of it
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: and just kind of wait for Schwarber to drive you
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: in and I think, especially if you're it makes Austin
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Hayes from being kind of unownable to Honestly, I can't
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: fault you if you think that he fits on your
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: team in a twelve teamer as like your fifth outfielder,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: because it's a great situation for him.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Yeah, he's in the talent is there? Like you look
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: back twelve eighteen months with Austin Hayes like you were
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: building fantasy teams with him in mind. It was a
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: fantasy dynasty, you know, their asset like, so there's a
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: lot to like and he has a good profile. He
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: just kind of started to get blocked with all that
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: glut of talent there in Baltimore. So yeah, I'm with
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: you there. I really like this. It'll be fun to
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: see what kind of comes that comes out of him.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: So not quite sure what balt is doing. Maybe they
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: know something we don't. Maybe they're gonna fix Trevor Rodgers.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: It's that they see something we don't and time will tell.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: But I would give them them to the doubt if
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: not for bringing Eloy over. That just makes me doubt
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: everything about the Trevor Rodgers trade. But who am I
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: to say is the armchair quarterback here. So we'll see
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: what happens with with all those moves for Baltimore.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, Well, in speaking of Austin Hayes, I think
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: we've got a little bit like an Austin Hayes light
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: or I mean similar, just prebe Austin Hayes equal in
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: terms of the next trade. With Lane Thomas moving from
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Washington to Cleveland. And last week we talked about Lane
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Thomas being a down arrow, I think this actually might
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: be like a even because Cleveland is a good team,
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: it's a good ballpark. They seem to believe in Lane Thomas,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: that he's batting. He batted second in his first game yesterday,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: and I didn't see where he batted tonight. I'll look
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: it up real quick. But especially if he's gonna hit
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: in the two hole in Cleveland, that's a really fantastic
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: landing spot for Lane Thomas overall. So is this a
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: situation where you might actually be going out and seeking
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: out to acquire Lane Thomas if he's gonna play full
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: time in Cleveland.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's gonna depend on how he's valued.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: I see this as relatively even maybe slightly down for
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: Lane Thomas. I like the situation in Cleveland. Better lineup's
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: better around him, all those things. But what I what
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: I'm concerned with Thomas is his value this year has
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: been really derived from his steals, and I don't have
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: it in front of me, but I'm gonna go out
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: on lan Land and say, I think he has twenty
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: nine steals this this season, so I'm just eight. He ate, well,
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: he's gonna steal one tonight, so I'll be right later
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: when this post.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: How many cought ceilings does he have? Four? Twelve? He's
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: so I.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: Have no idea, but my point being, he's going to
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: speed team who's top ten in steals in Cleveland, but
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: he's coming from a team in Washington that was second
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: highest in steels by a significant margin. They have. It's
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: almost fifty percent more steals the Nationals had than the Guardians,
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: and the Guardians are in first place. They're trying to
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: play solid. To your point, they didn't National don't care
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: if Blake Thomas got picked off or not. Paden staffs
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: hoping to trade the guy. So I think that you
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: see the speed significantly drop off here with Lane Thomas
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: because they're looking for runs. They're looking to a steady
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: lineup presence. Now, maybe the power takes up a little bit,
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: but I don't know that it's enough of an offset.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: And so that's why I see maybe a slight down
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: for Thomas here is that the speed I think is
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: going to fall off a cliff quicker than people people realize,
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: and they're going to look at that overall total and
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: be like, hey, he's not a better team. He's gonna
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: get run opportunities and RB opportunities and the rest is
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: gonna keep going. I think that part's true, but I
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: do think that you've got a big cliff coming.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, and I figured out why I couldn't find
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Cleveland's lineup for today. They didn't play today, so weird
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: lendsday off. Okay. Now we've got a couple of relievers.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: We're starting to get into, you know, the more obscure trades,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: but these relievers I think have the most impact in
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: terms of saves in our fantasy pool. So the first
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: one is Carlos Estevez going to Philly for George Klassen
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: and Samuel Alde Garry, which are honestly like those are
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: two pretty interesting arms. I think overall from dynasty that
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: the Phillies have brought along. Classen has really been on
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: a strikeout role this year and has really developed a lot.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Uh Alde Gary is actually Italian, which is kind of cool,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: like he's likely Italian Italian And unfortunately for them, like
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: if you were hope holding onto them, hoping they'd come
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: through the Philly system, they got moved out to Anaheim,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: and that's maybe. I think they'll actually get up pretty soon,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: but that's not a great situation for them overall. Then
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: we also have Yemi Garcia moving to Seattle in exchange
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: for Jonathan class A on the Jonathan class A side
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: for Toronto. I think that's a great get for a
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: rental of Geemy Garcia. You know, give yourself an outfielder
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: that could maybe develop. And we talked about class A
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: when he debuted. He's just a great speed asset and
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: I think can be down the stretch if you're in
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: a deep league and are looking for some stolen bases.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Still incredibly raw, but that's okay. Like if you're with
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Class A, you're taking a dart throw and hoping you
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: plug and get a game where he hits a homework
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: and steals through bags.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: So yeah, exactly. But between Garcia and Estevez, which one
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: would you rather go down the stretch for seeking out saves? Yeah?
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: I mean, if I'm going on the stretch for saves,
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: I think it's Estevez. I think he's the guy that
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: has the most opportunity to get those saves. I don't
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: think Garcia has really clear path there. There's just a
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: better bullpen in general there in Seattle. That said, I'm
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: not thrilled with Stevez. There's a lot of red flags
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: in that profile. Besides being Carlos Estevez, like he's got
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: some incredible luck, he is showing better control than he
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: has in an entire career substantially, and in all my experience,
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: that's usually a blip, not as trend. Guys don't usually
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: just all of a sudden figured out, Like we're talking
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: about a guy with he's got a career three and
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: a half k or walk for nine and he's at
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: a one point three this season doesn't usually work that way.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: So I think that there's definitely a level of regression
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: coming for Estevez, but I think he has the best
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: path there for the Phillies. So and also just with
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: the the stats that he's put up there, I think
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: they are going to trust him more. I do feel
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: like a little Kimberl esque playoffs role coming for Estevez,
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: but hey, that's the playoffs. We don't need those.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, I think I'm in the same
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: boat as you. But I think it's closer than people
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: might like initially give credit to because probably because Estevez
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: that's a good bullpen in Philly, between Hoffman and Alvarado
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: still being around that you know, if he does slip
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: at all, those two will be right there to snatch
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: up saves. And Yimi Garcia has been such a fantastic
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: reliever in the way that Seattle uses their bullpen mix
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: mixes and matches puts andres munios in high leverage situations
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: as opposed to saves all the time that I think
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: the ultimate value over the next couple months is going
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: to be closer than you would imagine. So certainly, I'm
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: sure Estevez is just about universally owned because he was
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: just racking up saves. But if you meet Garcia is
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: still out there, I think he's got a pretty good
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: chance to try to give you some saves down the
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: stretch for Seattle, Okay, let's move on to the Pirates.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: We're in on this deadline and they were buyers my friend.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: As this is, it's just kind of crazy that we
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: talk for like fifteen minutes and then like another Miami
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Marlins trade is like next on the dockets. So this
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: time is Brian de la Cruz moving to Pittsburgh. And
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: I think this is a pretty easy one. This is
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: an up arrow if you've got Brian dal la Cruz, right, Yeah.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: I think it's an up arrow. Just the situation. The
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: ballpark is going to be better for Dela Cruz. So
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: I'm not terribly thrilled Dela Cruz overall, but that's not
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: anything again, So I think he's just a very replacement
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: level outfielder, maybe slightly above replacement level, which is which
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: is fine. There's nothing wrong with that. I don't know
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: bashing the guy, but he's he's a career in ninety
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: seven WRC plus like he's between ninety ninety and one
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: ten every year. Like he's he's solid. But it is
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: an upgrade overall. So if he's the guy that you're
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: cycling the back of your your five man outfield, there's
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: nothing wrong with that.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, And then the other trades that they made were
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: acquiring Isaiah Kiner Fileffa from Toronto, who is on the
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: il where he's joining Nick Gonzalez, who's gonna be it
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: sounds like out maybe almost a month that with a
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: growing strain, it seems to be relatively significant after he's
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: been pretty hot this year, like he's been kind of
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: a nice little find if you needed middle infield to help.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Going to Nick Gonzalez, they also traded Quinn Priester straight
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: up for Nick York. So I just kind of wanted
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: to throw that out there because this is a good
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: situation to watch between IKF and Nick York and Nick
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Gonzales all kind of being in that middle infield mix
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: for Pittsburgh that it's gonna we'll see how it unfolds.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: But whoever, I think of those three starts getting the
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: most at bats at that second base position, it could
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: be a really nice middle infield piece down the stretch,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: just because of the position in the lineup and just
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: playing every day with steals and just racking up stats.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: So I wanted to throw out watching that situation. And
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: with that, we're going to move on to another n
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: L Central team that is the Milwaukee Brewers picking up
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Frankie Montas from division rival the Reds for Joey Weimer
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: and Jacob Junas. So I think in a lot of leagues,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: Montes is kind of like on that edge of ownership
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: or being left to the waiver wire. I think everyone's
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: kind of like decision is whether or not he's got
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: to start in Green American Ballpark. But do you see
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: something maybe in Mantes's profile that he's put up this
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: season that could make him more valuable in Milwaukee, given
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: that he's got a better path to wins.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's to your point, he's actually been
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: worse away from Great American Ballpark, and so that's not
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: playing playing well for him. He's he's got a FIP
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: of six one away from America versus about a three
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: six at Great America. It's really it's come down to
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: a walk issue and a home run issue away, which
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: is ironic to to a degree, and he's just he's
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: been absolutely eatn alive by lefties. He just does he's
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: not been able to get them out this this season.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: So I think that's that's the kind of downfall he's
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: So he's been a little bit better as of late,
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: it feels like he the strikeouts have kind of come back.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: So Montest is one of those that there's a lot
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: of talent there and I I I do think he's
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: a guy that I would be watching. I just don't
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: that I'm investing at this time because I think there's
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: just too much volatility in that profile. And it is
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: too tempting to say he left Great America. He's going
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: to play Milwaukee much more attractive ballpark. I wouldn't say
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: maybe a better defense or so that are hitting team
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: behind him is just the ballpark effects. It's probably gonna
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: overshadow really what he's done at this point. So I
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: like Montas, I want to watch him. I'm root for
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: the guy. I just think he's maybe not fully fully
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: back to himself after missing basically a whole season last year.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, let's move on to the Kansas City Royals,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: who are in the AL Central and AL Wild Card race,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: as they picked up two pitchers at the deadline here.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: They picked up Michael Lorenzen from the Texas Rangers and
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: Lucas Ersig from the Oakland A's. For Lorenzen, I was
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: actually like a little bit excited about where he might
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: end up landing. I think this is maybe one of
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: the worst spots because he gives up quite a bit
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: of contact, and that park in Kansas City we keep
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: hammering at home, but it's a hitter's park overall, just
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: not for Homer's. And if you're Michael Lorenzen, who gives
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: up you know, almost just only like a forty two
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: percent ground ball rate, you're just asking to get and
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: eaten alive by those gaps out in Kaufman Stadium. So
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: I would be moving on from him if you've got
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: any shares of him. Lucas Ersig, though, this is a
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: really interesting move because I maybe should have kind of
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: considered him in that conversation with Yimi and Estevez earlier
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: of who's going to be the better reliever down the stretch,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: because James MacArthur has been awful of late in Kansas
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: City and that closer role has kind of just turned
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: into a competition overnight, and so there's a good chance
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: that Lucas Orsig walks out of that situation as the
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: closer in Kansas City. So do you think I'm a
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: getting the read right there? Or do you think that
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: you know, are you actually maybe looking to acquire Lorenzen
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: and uh downgrading nurs sake.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: No, I think you're you're pretty spot on here. I
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: do think you know Lorenzen is it's is not a
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: good spot to come into, you know. The park factor
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: for you know, three year rolling for for Kaufin is
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: the second worst in the league. Actually technically fourth worst.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: Uh if you sorry, I can't read at all, fourth
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: worst because London's included third worst otherwise behind Finway and Coors.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: I think if you go to this year too, I
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: think the Tokyo or like the Games of Japan are
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: included in there too, and that was the hitter spark too.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so Coffin's also third this year, behind Coors and Chase,
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: but all of them that's behind the sky Dome out
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: in Tokyo Rookwood Field. Uh so it's uh, it's it's
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: not looking good for all the other the other parks
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: here that we've experienced for for fun. But I do
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: I do like your call on Ersig here. He you know,
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: he is, he's got the probably the exact profile that
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: you want coming into Kansas City. He keeps the ball
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: on the ground at a fifty rate, which is very impressive.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: His control has gotten a little bit better this year,
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: but again I mentioned earlier, don't always expect that to hold,
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: but in kind of a closure role that you can
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: kind of make that work. So he seems to be
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: pretty reliable, and his velocity is up this year. It's
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: almost ninety nine at this point for air sig, So
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: I do think that there's a chance that he kind
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: of starts to sneak his way in there, and I
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: almost wonder that's why the Royals looked brought him in,
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: So I think he's I think we have to nominate
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: him in one of our leagues to night. Just giving
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: you the heads up if you want to outbid me,
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: go for it.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: Okay, I will look for that at any moment here. Okay. Next,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: we've still got a couple of contenders we haven't talked about.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: And the next one we've got is the New York Mets,
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: who are still holding strong in the NL wild card race.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: As they went out and picked up Paul Blackburn from
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: the Oakland Athletics and Jesse Winker from the Nets. And
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: I think these are pretty sneaky kind of fringe moves
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: where both of these guys I've got my eye on them.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: Winker's been a really great bat against right handers this year.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: He's also been just a total mavin on the bass pass.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: He's got fourteen stolen bases after entering with three stolen
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: bases on his career, So if you have him anywhere,
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: it's been quite the boon picking that up. As you know,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: he's turned into a pretty solid like third outfielder out
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: of five and I think this is a great situation
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: for him in New York given the offense around him,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: that he should be able to play a pretty decent
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: amount and hopefully they still let him run. Paul Blackburn.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I'm watching more from just like a up stream perspective,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: because that is a great pictures park up in New
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: York at City Field, And if you get a good
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: matchup for Paul Blackburn, you can maybe catch some lightning
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: in a bottle, but maybe nothing more than that. Any
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: any situations where maybe you're looking to buy more strongly
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: on Winker or Blackburn.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Winker is the one that does intrigue me,
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: but it truly is a platoon situation. And I'm also
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: going back to our conversation Lane Thomas that steel still
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: steel totals are not going to maintain when when when
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: we're with the Mets here, they don't care if anybody
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: caught stealing for the Nationals, it didn't matter. But he
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: has been absolutely great against right handers. And so if
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: you're to your point like he is, he's kind of
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: like Ryan o'h here into his degree, like, if you
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: can get that right platoon, you can play the right
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: guys together, you could look really really good. I think
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: platooning is at times overrated because it's actually really hard
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: to do do and do well. But a guy like Winker,
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: like he is year and year out that perfect platoon guy.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: So I'm a little more excited about him because I
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: think that folks have probably been sleeping on him and
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: he's probably available for on the waiver wire in a
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: number of leagues still at this point.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, he hasn't even been that awful
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: against left handed pitching this year, given it has been
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: only eighty six at bats a hundred played appearances, but
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: he has put up a respectable ninety three WRC plus,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: so it's possible that like he still plays enough against
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: lefties to get some volume.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd share all way from Weekly Leagues a little
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: bit with Winker.
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: Yeah that makes sense. Okay, well let's get to our boy,
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: aj Preller. Because he had fite the fun deadline as
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: he emptied the I mean, he didn't empty the upper tier.
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: It does impress me that nobody ever forces Preller to
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: like empty out those top guys. And it's also kind
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: of I think helped me from There are teams and
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: evaluations a little bit like the Rays I was talking
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: about earlier, where I do rely on how teams value
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: players to be able to know whether or not they're
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: actually good. And Preller is one of those guys because
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: it worked with Jackson Merrill. And so I'm thinking, like
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: in There's Leagues, you know where Ethan Sallas or forget
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Debrez's first name off the top of my head, I'm
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: gonna look it up, but this is the new hot prospect,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: Leo Leo Dallas Debrees for the San Diego Padres. He
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: didn't part with him either, Preler didn't, and so I
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: think he's really clutching onto Salace and Debrees because he
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: knows he's got something special. So I'm certainly flagging them
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: as like guys I'm watching in all sorts of dynasty leagues.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: But let's get to the actual trades that he made,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: because Preller pretty much traded off everybody else around Salace
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: and Debrees as he went out and acquired Tanner Scott
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: from the Marlins or Robbie Snelling, Adam Maser and Graham
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: Paully and Jaba Shars then that, but actually that followed
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: after getting Jason Adam from Tampa for Dylan LESCo, Homer
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: Bush Junior and ja D. Gonzalez. So I mean, I
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: think with Scott and Adam, we'll see how that bullpen
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: plays out in San Diego. But I think they're probably
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: both set up men still for Suarez for Robro Suarez.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: But any of those prospects that might have moved out
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: to Tampa or Miami that really catch your eye and
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: you're flagging kind of the way that I'm looking at
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: DeVries and salaz As like an up arrow because probably
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: likes him so much, but up arrow is because of
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: opportunities in Tampa or Miami.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you called it right that you look
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: at all these guys and it's like the reports was
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: from Miami. They got what the number three, four and six,
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: or I'm not gonna get the right number, but like
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: three of the top ten prospects from the Padres. But
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: I think that's from the beginning of the year evaluations
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: versus kind of where we're at midyear, cause Snelling has
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: been rough, music hasn't been great. I think Polly hasn't
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: some upside, And I think from a Miami Ice perspective, like,
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: I just got four pretty solid prospects. Even if I
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: am wrong or they are selling low, I'm fine because
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: we'll see what they turn it into because there's still
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: a lot of talent there. The one that intrigues me
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: that the most is going to be Dylan LESCo. We're
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: talking about a guy that has a you know, I
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: love to look at the prospect pedigree here, and so
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: we're talking about a guy that was a first rounder
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: and just in twenty twenty two, so we're just talking
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: two years ago. He was a first rounder and he's
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: got some pretty gosharn strong grades. Is from a prospects
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: perspective of sixty grade potential fastball, seventy on the curve,
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: seventy on the change. He's got crazy, crazy good stuff.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: The problem is he doesn't know where it's going and
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: that's the concern. But what I why I'm intrigued here
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: is it's the exact, it's the opposite. You just put
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: Freller against the Rays, So pod rais against the Rays.
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: Two teams that seem to actually kind of value prospects
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: their way and not give a you know who about
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: what the other rest of the league sees. And I
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: really think this is one of the ones they matched up
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: on and Lesco's gonna come over all of a sudden.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: He's going to be getting those walks to like four
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: per nine, which isn't good, but is palatable when you're
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: striking out fifteen guys or thirteen guys per nine, and
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: they I mean, he's still just twenty years old. So
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: I think that he's one of those that might turn
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: into like a bullpen fireballer type thing that just unbelievable
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: when you get in there, like maybe like a Way
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: Davis type guy who just couldn't figure it out from
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: a starting perspective. If you move into the bullpen, he
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: uses the best pitch to control gets better. So I've
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: got a little up arrow on LESCo here, just because
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: I think that there is more hope for him in
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: an organization like Tampa Bay.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. I think I'm actually looking
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: more closely at Snelling going forward because the numbers have
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: been rough this year in Double A for Robbie Snelling
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: that you know, it's been a six oh one ra
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: with of you know, more than four walks per nine
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: and a home run to fly ball right of eighteen percent.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: But that's all in San Antonio in the Texas League,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: which is brutal. So many of those stadiums are at
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: elevation and it's a really tough place to play. That
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: I do wonder if it just kind of started getting
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: to Snelling and being able to hit that next kind
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: of level of development was really difficult if you're afraid
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: of it getting shelled every time you're putting into the zone.
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: So given especially that the Marlins have shown a pensiant
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: for develop pitching over the past few years, I'm really
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: interested to see what they can get out of Robbie Snelling.
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: And you know, he's only twenty years old still, so
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: there's a lot that can still happen here with Robbie Snelling.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: That where previously I was starting to get kind of
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: out just because it didn't see where San Diego would
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: find a spot for Snelling. I think Miami's got a
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: really a track history of moving guys quickly. If they
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: like the arm, and if they can correct some of
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: the things that Snelling had going wrong when he was
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: in the Padre system, I think you could be looking
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: at a pretty nice little boost to his value overall.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be interesting. I do have to fact check
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: you here, though, I just just because I can, and
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: because I minor league park factors up here. San Antonio
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: has a sixty two park factor for home runs.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: No way, really, are you serious?
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: And so they're actually in that league below average significantly.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: But just be to the rest of the league is yes.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: It is a hitters league. So I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: like just a cover both sides of my mouth. But
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: I just had to fact check you because I had
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: the park factors still sitting them from some more conversations
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: last week, still sitting around. So I do agree with you.
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: I think Snellen has some upside. I do like him
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: as an overall pitcher, so I think it'll be a
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: good reset for him too.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, the last trade we have is pretty low
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: consequence for our fantasy game, but high consequence for our
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: Baseball card Personal Collections, our PCs as Dylan Carlson was
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: shipped out by the Cardinals for relievers Straught Sean Armstrong
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: and Dylan Carlson is now down in Tampa. I'm torn though,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: because is this going to turn into another Randy Rosearrain
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: a situation where I mean Carlson I think was one
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: of those players where in Saint Louis like it's a
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: very much like a sink or swim, and if you
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: don't come out of the gate hitting, it just doesn't
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: seem like, you know, the organization or even the fans
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: and the crowd can get behind the player all the time.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: I mean, just look at Jordan Walker, and especially like
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: I was watching the game today, you know with our
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: boy Mike McGreevy just coming hot out the gate, and
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: you see what Sianni has been doing, Michael Sianni's been
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: doing down in Saint Louis this year, and Pedro pajees
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: that there is just like some sort of it is
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: the devil magic, and Dylan Carlson never caught it because
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: I think he was just always so in his head
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: as a top prospect for Saint Louis. I'm hoping that
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: maybe these cards will come back to value because he
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: turns into Randy Rose Arena. Am I being delusional?
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: I think you're being a romantic optimist. But I don't disagree.
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: I think that's the key point here, because I was
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: thinking the same thing to. You know, for those that
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: don't listen often, we're both born and raised Cardinals fans.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: You're an adopted White Sox fan at the same time,
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: and with Carlson coming up, you know, right around that
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: twenty twenty COVID season, you know, there was a lot
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: of prospect love. He when card collecting really kicked off,
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: it was so fun to have, like your team have
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: one of the big rookies and invested in it. So
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: I've got stacks of Dylan Carlson autographs and patches and
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: all these really awesome, amazing, cool cards, and there was
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: a fraction of what it cost at the time I
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: was acquired, and I'd be happy to just get the
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: money back potentially at the time. But I was debating
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: just yesterday, I'm like, do I take a big stack
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: of those and see if I can sell some of
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: those off, Maybe the ones that aren't as you know,
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: exciting or cool and see what happens and get maybe
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: some that trade magic on the on the PC there.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: But I think you're right. I think this. I mean,
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: the Cardinals have this track record of not figuring out
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: like what to do with let's be very specific outfielders,
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: like it's it's very thing. So and it's not just
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: Randy Rose arena. Magic is Randy Rose arena. Magic is
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: Dallas Garcia magic. It's uh, go down the line, Laine
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: Thomas magic. I don't. I feel like I'm missing somebody
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: really significant, but there's just a lot of that that magic,
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: uh there. So I wouldn't be surprised if if Carlson does.
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: And I think that actually from the card market, there's
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: like a double dip there where they This has happened
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: so many times as the Cardinals and then they've remained
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: good that I feel like Carlson goes on like a
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: little hot streak here for like a month, all of
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: a sudden, everybody's like it worked again. Yeah, so here
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: we go. So I I do. I do think it'll
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: be exciting to kind of see. And I also was like, man,
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: the raising Cardinals continue to link up on trades like
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: there must be the speed dial between those two organizations.
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: Over the years, it seems like they're constantly making deals.
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: So tough one for the PC maybe hope for the
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: UH for the card collecting budget down the road.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, and I mean it might not be
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: too long before he gets his shot, because Richie Pelasios
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: did leave today's game with the hYP percent a knee
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: down in Tampa. And I mean Johnny DeLuca is still
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: there battling Dylan Carlson for time. But I mean he's
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: a switch hitting bat that I'm certainly going to keep
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: my eye on him in all sorts of leagues as well,
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: because like the talent's still there and I think especially
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: like in his best season, Carlson's probably going to push
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: something like a fifteen twenty five, like two eighty and
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: just like play superb defense. That it's it's there. It's
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: just kind of still materializing in Placio's former Cardinals. So yeah,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: it's it's a ironic. Okay, Well, that's going to wrap
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: up the trades. We're gonna get into some injuries that happened,
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: because obviously there were going to be some. We recorded
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: one day early last week and that always leads to curses.
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: We cursed the crap out of Christian Yelich last week
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: as he went down like it was a real quick
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: progression on the Wednesday after, like we posted our podcast
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: because he just kind of like wasn't in the lineup,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: and then it was like, oh yeah, he might just
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: be like done for the season with this back issue
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: that is keeping him out. He's going the rest and
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: rehab route. But anytime where like those are your two
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: options with a back issue, rest in rehab or just
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: serious back in back surgery that's gonna lay you up
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: for a long time. I mean, that's not good if
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: you're just a normal person, let alone a baseball player
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: where you're torking your orso constantly. So it was a
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: really fantastic season bounce back for Christian Yelich as he
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: was an All Star. He's been slashing three fifteen, four
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: h six, five oh four. It was absolutely fantastic with
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: eleven homers and twenty one stolen bases. But I mean
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: it does feel like we have to do this every
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: once in a while where we rebury Christian Yelich. Is
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: this maybe he's getting up there in age like you
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: might not realize that he's thirty two. This back issue
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: has been really constant, and it maybe I'm overreacting, but
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: I just don't foresee like any investment in Yelich unless
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: it's like a really really late pick for me next year,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: just because I don't see how he makes it through
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: another season.
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: Well, here we go. Here's where we differ.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: Yes, maybe yeah, And.
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: That's that's what it is, you know, I can't resist
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: that injury temptation. I this is a buying opportunity for
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: Christian Yelich. He he's back, he's been playing great, he's
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: They've already said that even if he does have off
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: season surgery, it won't impact his return for twenty twenty five.
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: He'll be ready by the beginning of the season. This
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: is the buying opportunity in the Dynasty league, buying it
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: for pennies on the dollar. That's where I'm at. So
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: I still do I think Yellich has a ton of potential.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: I still think it's a lot of left into the game.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: I think you're buying him with this expectation. It's kind
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: of like a Mike Troup situation. Still a really really
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: good player, if healthy, would be hop fifteen top twenty hitter,
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: and he's just not saying healthy. So you look at it,
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: divide it in half, and if you're paying less than
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: half the price of that top twenty, if you're paying
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: like a top sixty, top eighty hitter price, then you
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: go for it. That's kind of the way I'm looking
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: at Yellich, and I think to your reaction is going
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: to the market's gonna dip below where it actually needs
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: to be for Yellich. So that's that's my prediction here
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: is I think that's actually been a buying opportunity for
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: Christian Yelich.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: Okay, well, we'll see.
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: So I've made worse calls in this SPoD. Let's just
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: be very clear about this.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: So hey, I mean last week I said the Colorado
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Rockies we're gonna sell, and so that didn't work out
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: very well. But I have also been pounding this Mike
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: McGreevey drum forever and finally came through.
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: Sometimes you get him right, and that's the beauty of
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: what we do. You just celebrate the right ones and
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: you bury the other ones.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and it wasn't the only back injury that's really
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: acted up over the past week. And Evan Carter's out
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: for the season with his back injury down in Texas.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Real bummer, because I mean, this is I think what
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: I'm worried about with Yellish that like it does seem
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: to really just like SAP some of most players out there,
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: that it's kind of surprising that yell It's even the
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: past couple of years, has been an above average player
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: given his issues that it can just totally wreck careers.
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: And now I'm kind of worried about the same thing
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: with Evan Carter because this is something that he battled
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: previously and now that it's escalated to this kind of
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: level again. Both of these injuries too, it's been pretty
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: murky on details, which is also just tough with backs.
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: I think it's just the way backs kind of work,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: given all the different nerves and muscles and vertebrae and
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: whatever else is in there. And so with Evan Carter,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: are you in this same sort of boat or is
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: this a little bit more concerning because it's coming on
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: the front end of a career.
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this one, to me is a little
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: more concerning with the front of the career, and also
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: he hasn't established himself clearly we know the talents there.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: But there's a difference to me with yellis that he's
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: done it time and time again. He's been the MVP.
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: He's been able to, you know, have some issues come
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: back show that he can do it. Carter, he's he's
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: got a total of what sixty eight major league games,
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: and so I don't have questions about the injury. I
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: have questions about do we know who Evan Carter truly is?
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: And so I think you double those two pieces together,
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: and that's why I'm a little bit more hesitant with
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: having Carter. You can say he's younger, he should bounce back,
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: things like that, but what's he bouncing back to? And
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: so if I'm just saying treat both injuries the same,
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: expecting half a season for both, I'm taking the half
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: a season for Yelich, who's been there before and maybe
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: he's going to be at eighty percent of that versus Carter,
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: who I don't know what I'm getting and I'm taking
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: a gamble on a guy that has been hurt and
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: the production is limited to a total of sixty eight games.
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: So that's where I'm a little bit more hesitant with Carter.
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: To your point, and the youthless of it. Yeah, that
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: starts to become a bigger chronic discussion than what you
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: have with Yelich. Now, yeallow's just chronic.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Two.
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: Just I'll give it. I'll give you a thirty year
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: old a little bit of a break on the bad back.
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, he's obviously like worked through it and played
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: through it and stuff, and like, I mean, I think
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: maybe if there's one silver lining you're looking for here
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: with Carter is that he did shut it down and
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: can hopefully like take this. I mean, at this point,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: you know, he's looking at five, like eight months before
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: he's got to be playing baseball again and can fully
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: recover that maybe that'll help. And so we'll kind of
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: see how things unfold in the off season for Evan Carter.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: The other injury or next injury we have is Mason
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: Miller hitting the il with a broken hand on his
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: non pitching hand. Where this was actually kind of a
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: funny situation as it unfolded, because initially one of the
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: beat reporters for the Athletics reported that he had broken
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: his hand by punching something, and then he had to
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: retrack that because Mason Miller's agency actually said that he
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: broke it just leaning on equipment, and then it came
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: out that he actually did break it, like punching something
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: because he was angry that he had to do like
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: a post game workout of post game with session, which
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: I'm sure he probably didn't punch it that hard because
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: it's just maybe even like a little like a joking
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: like punch. But again, I think I'm looking a little
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: bit here at the silver lining that he's been fantastic
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: this year. Mason Miller. You know, he's been maybe the
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: best reliever in the game with a two to twenty
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: one earra fifteen and a half strikeouts per nine fifteen
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: saves on the Oakland Athletics, which is not easy to do.
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: And this is a guy who has constantly been injured.
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: He had a sprain double last year that he rested
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: and rehabbed, got a PRP injection, which shockingly worked like
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: usually that ends up in a Tommy John surgery. If anything, like,
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: if you're in a longer term keeper dynasty situation, for
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: Mason Miller, this might be a little bit of a
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: blessing in disguise because it shuts him down for a month.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: Maybe six weeks and gives them a little bit of
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: a break. Am I reading into that too much? Or
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: would you rather have the production?
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Yeah? I think from a dynasty perspective, you're one hundred
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: percent right. Yeah, if you're in a redraft league, you're
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: annoyed on no end here. But it's this is his
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: non throwing hand, and this is a guy that like
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: he's let's be honest, he's in the bullpen because you're
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: concerned about his arm holding up, and so this is
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: probably good news for his long term prospects. So I
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: do think that that comes in. I really wish I
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: knew what happened because the reports are just so all
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: over the place. It's it's funny, it's.
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: Probably something that's the real report, Mark.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: Juli and Tavares. Mason Miller here for sure. But you know,
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: I I love the fire. That's fine. Just at least
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: he's smart enough guy not to do with his pitching hand.
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: That's That's all I got for h.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: That is that's actually I mean, that's a really great point.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: Like there's plenty of pictures that have done it with
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: the pitching hand, and so yeah, Mason Miller, smart man.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: All right, Next injury we have is another picture and
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: this one's another just oddball. Kolde Sanga finally returned from
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: his shoulder injury that looked daunting, but he looked fantastic
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: in his return through five and a third with nine
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: strikeouts and was just absolutely cruising. Left the start with
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: a calf issue, then got an MRI and they said
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: done for the season with a strained calf. So he
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: had a might trout like calf strain. But what I'm
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: actually I know this is gonna sound a little bit strange.
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: I'm on your side here that this I think is
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: a buying opportunity on an injured pitcher because he looked
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: really good and that returned back from the shoulder. I
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: guess I haven't really dug into the stuff numbers. Maybe
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: I won't feel quite as great. The stuff numbers were fine,
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: Like his fastball looked good, his cutter was looking good,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: the slider was where you wanted it to be, so
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: the arsenal was there. If anything, this gives him more
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: time to work on that shoulder. And so in long
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: term dynasty keeper leagues, I'm actually out there poking out
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: the value on code A Senga because I think the
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: calf will will heal in enough time, and if the
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: shoulder gets more time, he could come back as a
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: pretty ace level pitcher for next year. I guess the
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: question will be innings going forward for twenty twenty five.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: But do you think I'm off base here?
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: No, I don't think you're off base, And I mean
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: my comparison I mean to give, and I don't think
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: it's fair. Becau's not necessarily the right the same injury,
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: But I'm gonna go Nick Lodolo is the comparison I'm
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: going to give you. You know, he missed a lot of
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: time last year, but it wasn't because of his throwing arm.
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: It was a lower body injury, and so the fact
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: that he came back was healthy. He's he's been fantastic,
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: but that's who he was prior to the injury. There's
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: you know, some luck and different things that went into it.
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: And so I think it's an interesting dynamic that the
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: guy that can have a non throwing arm injury, folks
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: treat it to a degree like a throwing arm injury.
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: So I think that's that's the interesting part of this,
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: is that there's a lot that can they can come
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: out of this, you know. And I think the lidlas
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: was actually a growing injury and yeah, trump back, Yeah, yeah, sorry,
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: I hit both of them. But like, yeah, but like
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: when it's a non throwing arm injury that you actually
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: get some rest, can you can keep working out and
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: strengthen your shoulder, You can do all those things. And
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: I think then the fantasy world steps back and goes up.
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: He's been away, he's been hurt. I don't want to
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: invest in them because of that. But it's a different
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: type of hurt. It's not like he's got to build
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: back up the same way. And so I think you're
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: right with with Singa here. There's there's still some value
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: to him because he did look really good and I'll
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: be a very very small sample size, but he was
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: good in twenty three as well, and I think people
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: are going to forget about that. So I like it,
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: especially if you can if you can kind of grab
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: them cheap or dyasty league here, if there's a team
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: in contention that they're looking to cast him off to
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: pick up Trevor Rodgers or something like that.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, next injury, we have another back injury.
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: This time it is for Ranger Suarez of the Philadelphia Phillies,
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: who have been the number one pitcher until treeks Google
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: kind of like came roaring past the past month, and
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: it has been a rough little stretch here for Suarez,
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: as it's been reported that he's been battling this back
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: issue for a little bit and caused him to miss
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: the All Star Game. You can especially see it over
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: his last five starts, he had a six sixty seven
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: ARRA over twenty seven innings, went zero to four, and
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: four of those five starts, well three of those five
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: starts came against Miami, Detroit and Oakland, where you were hoping,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: you know, for the possibility of like a note hitter
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: going into those starts if you had Ranger Swarez. Just
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: another kind of basic question here, you out there maybe
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: looking to buy Ranger Suarez where especially, i mean, the
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: price was through the roof on him, you know, a
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: couple months ago after he got off to that fantastic start,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: But as he's faded a little bit, this back injury
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: has been there. Do you think that you know, he
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: could return to something closer to that peak down the
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: stretch and you're going out there and trying to acquire him.
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say, you know, I'm going to use
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: the same logic there with Code I and Nick mister
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: Lodolo there that and I'll clarify arm injury, but upper
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: body injury for pitchers do concern me a little bit more.
- 1:51:35Speaker 2: And so it's the extension. He's able to get way,
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: he's able to drive through pitches, and this has been nagging.
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: So I think he's gonna be out longer than people expect.
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: And so I'm not gonna be surprised here, and especially
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: because the Affillies won him back for the postseason. That's
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: what they want, and so I wouldn't be shocked if
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: you're getting three starts out of him this season before
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: the playoffs, because they're really wanting to make sure he
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: is healthy. So he comes back, he gets some starts
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: in lower pressure, and then he's ready for the playoffs.
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: I think they're gonna to baby him, to be honest,
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: and so I'm I'm taking this one a little bit
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: more of for the rest of the season. I'm not
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: gonna be too interested. And from a Dynasty perspective, Sures
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: still doesn't strike me as like the intimating ace pitcher,
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: and so I still think you're paying too much for
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: a premium for what he has done and the excuse
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: of the injury that's driven poor results. So like, I
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: don't think there's as much of an opportunity here with
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: the sores, uh is it might think on the surface.
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lower back injury. Where do you draw
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: the line between upper body and lower body?
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: The buttocks, your hip is, hips of leaks are concerned
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: as well. The belt line is is where the upper
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: There's no mid body in my assessment.
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: Okay, I just had to to make sure.
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: Sorry, we've we've been going long here and you managed
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: to give me to say buttocks in the podcast, So
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: we're we're in trouble.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Yeah, very very good. Okay. Next injury is Riley Green
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: from the Detroit Tigers is going to have to put
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: a little bit of a pause on his breakout season,
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: in which he is slash two sixty four, three fifty
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: seven four eighty five over his first one hundred and
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: one games, has come with seventeen homers. You a one
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: thirty five WRC plus been the breakout that people have
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: been looking for from Riley Green. Me too. He I've
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: pulled many of his autos out of twenty twenty three products,
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: So I've been enjoying selling some of those off as
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: Riley Green has taken off, and this one is a
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: hamstring So I think this is going to be a
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: very touch and go situation kind of what you were
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: mentioning with Suarez, because Detroit is out of it and
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: doesn't want to be risking anything long term with Riley
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: Green as he's only twenty three and certainly a piece
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: of their future and foundation going forward. So what are
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: you doing with Riley Green in leagues where you were
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: really depending on him? Are you maybe looking to already
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: pencil him out of that lineup and look to like
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: find a pretty long term replacement, trying to find some
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: sort of trade, maybe not trading him out, but bringing
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: in a more significant piece. Or do you think that
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: Rdy Green could conquer this hamstring injury and be able to,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: you know, make a little bit of a stretch run
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: in August and September.
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is one of those that you're
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: looking for more of a permanent solution for over Riley
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: Green here. You know, they say it's between one or
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: two grade strain. Not willing to put a timetable on things,
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: which means it's more likely closer to the two grades.
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: So you're you're talking probably a four to six week
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: recovery on something like that. And so you know, owning
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: we talked about last week. I hold my hamstring a
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: week go, a week and a half ago, and I
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: was between one and two grade and I have nowhere
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: the same training staff that Riley Green does. But my
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: trainer told me that I've at least got another few
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: weeks before I'm doing anything, and I think it's gonna
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: be one of those that it does. He's gonna probably
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: make it backwards end the season, but the Tigers just
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: don't have the motivation to bring him back. They need
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: him for next year, They need him to be healthy
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: going to the next year and really been anchoring that lineup,
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: and so they'll get him back when they think he's
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: fully healthy, get him a few bats before the season ends,
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: and then he's off from the sunset. If there's any
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: setback whatsoever, season's over.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very true, and I mean part of it
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: is it's not a great lineup coming back to that.
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: We've been you know, dogging some of these players that
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: have been down in Miami. The past, you know, few
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: pods in terms of what the production has been. It's
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: not much better if you're in the Tigers lineup right now.
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: It's another rough lineup that's going to struggle to score
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: runs down the stretch. So yeah, I think we're on
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: the same page with Braley Green. Okay, last bit of news,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: last injury. We got here, and I know this one's
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: gonna break your heart. I saved it for last. Ricky
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: Tiedeman is undergoing TJ surgery, so he will be out
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: honestly all the way through the end of twenty twenty five.
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: And at this point, do you think that there actually
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: is a path where Ricky Tiedeman actually debuts and has
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: some sort of impact at the major league level, because
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: it's been kind of a long time coming. I think
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: that I don't know if this is also a Toronto
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: thing too, because it does feel like Jordan Romano has
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: been into this boat where Tiedaman's been battling elbow issues
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: off hand and then it's manifested in different ways throughout
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: his body. But do you think that, you know, is
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: he totally bottomed out and got no value in dynasty
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: leagues or is there still some slip of hope that
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: he can come up and be a fantastic starting pitcher
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six.
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I this this one's tough because if you look
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: at pure ability and stuff, he is absolutely at the
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: top of that that list. And uh just even that
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: just a few months ago, you could you would argue
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: that Tiedeman was, you know, the best left handed pitcher
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: in the minor leagues. And unfortunately, I think you're right
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: is you know, you're right off this the rest of
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: this year, You're right off all of next year, and
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: you know, you're starting to get to the point where
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: you're not sure that he's going to be around. And
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: I'm inter justly gonna look down at Tampa also in
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: the same division there look at guys like Brenda McKay.
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: You also had Brent Honeywell, guys that were very, very
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: highly sought after prospects, you know, thought they were the
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: next best thing, ran into arm injuries, and now they've
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: been like kind of trying to find their way bounce
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: around to other organizations. I just kind of feel that's
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: where Teeaman's going. Nate Pearson kind of a similar type
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: of thing, Like it's just the fun these fireballers that
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: just start to run a little bit of an injury
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: injury bug, and Tiedaman's has like been pretty significant and
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: it's not been a little injury bug, like he gets
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: on the mound, he's off the mount, like we're averaging
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: like what some guy's getting a start in a season
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: for Tetam in here. So I think it's so so disappointing.
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm writing off Tetaman for at least the
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: next two years, and that that hurts.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think I'm in the same boat because
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: even if you do try to hold him that long
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: for his return, you're starting to run into a little
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: bit of like the Garrett Crochet problem this year where
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: this year Tiedaman only through seventeen and a third. Last
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: year he threw forty innings, So no forty two forty four,
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: I mixed that complex league two innings. So you're just
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: looking at like not a significant history of just build
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: up in that arm. And so if anything, it also
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: might push him towards like more of a star relief role,
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: because I just don't know how he ever really manages
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: to get up to one hundred and fifty to one
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: hundred and eighty innings to be a top level pitcher.
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: And yeah, it's just I think it's tough because obviously,
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: if you had him, you probably had him valued pretty
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: highly for a long stretch, and at this point it
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: is I think he's got to come back and prove
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: that he can do it before I'm ever interested again. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: I also I've own him in a little league that
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: you iron, and I've shopped almost the entire year trying
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: to find somebody that still believed, and there's just not
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: an appetite out there and generally just because there's just
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: too much uncertainty in that arm at this point. And
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: now that we got the truth, which is the third opinion,
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: that they had to get on him like you saw
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: it coming, you saw it coming.
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: All right, well let's wrap it up. We did it.
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: That was quite the stretch. That was quite the marathon pod.
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: It's not going to push for our longest one, but
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: it's gonna push, I think, for one of the longest
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: ones out there. And wow, what a trade deadline. I'm
- 2:00:15Speaker 1: still kind of like reeling from it because it's gonna
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: be one of those trade deadlines where just because of
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: like the depth of knowledge that we have of baseball
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: in between baseball cards and fantasy that there's gonna be
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: guys that got moved at like the triple and double
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: a level that they'll be on a different team, you know,
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: in the coming months or early next year. I'm gonna
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, how did he end up there?
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: That there is so many trades. So, like I said,
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: we hit probably the big fantasy implication ones, but there's
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: all sorts of other relievers in bench pieces and minor
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: leaguers that moved. And all I can say is that,
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: like this waver Wire article this weekend is going to
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: be a doozy as I have to like interpret the
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: entire Miami Marlins organization from scratch.
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: Yeah, good, good, good luck. I think the good news
- 2:01:03Speaker 2: is they're all owned under ten percent, so you should
- 2:01:07Speaker 2: be finding Marl edition. Yeah, just give them their own category.
- 2:01:11Speaker 2: Just put at the bottom, you know, exit out, say
- 2:01:14Speaker 2: just just pick up half of the Marlins.
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: Yes, But with that, let's wrap up the pod and
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: let people out there know where they can find you
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: on socials and read your work.
- 2:01:23Speaker 2: Yep, find me over on Twitter or slash x at
- 2:01:26Speaker 2: Jaybrewer one seven. Find me over on rasbell on the
- 2:01:30Speaker 2: weekends on Sunday doing hitter profiles top one hundred hitters
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: for the rest of the season. Uh, we will be
- 2:01:35Speaker 2: probably diving into a few of these hitters this this
- 2:01:38Speaker 2: weekend as we kind of look into guys like Parads
- 2:01:41Speaker 2: and morel trying to figure out where are the hidden
- 2:01:45Speaker 2: gems of the trade deadline and where are those guys
- 2:01:48Speaker 2: that we are looking to click. So if you didn't
- 2:01:50Speaker 2: get enough here, come come check that out. We'll get
- 2:01:53Speaker 2: a little of this in print and uh and and
- 2:01:55Speaker 2: and see where where it all falls. How about you,
- 2:01:57Speaker 2: Mike wh where can folks find you?
- 2:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah, you can also find me on the weekends on rasball,
- 2:02:02Speaker 1: but on Saturdays, and I will be doing that waiver
- 2:02:06Speaker 1: wire piece that I just alluded to, and certainly check
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: it out this weekend because we got into like the
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: nitty gritty of each transaction, but there's still like the
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: back end on some of these transactions in terms of
- 2:02:18Speaker 1: like I'm looking at the Blue Jays lineup right now
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: and as in Barger's got a big opportunity. So we're
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: gonna have all sorts of names to cover this weekend
- 2:02:27Speaker 1: on Saturday and get those waiver wire bids in You
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: can find me on Twitter at m coool seven. Same
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: thing for Blue Sky, and you can find the pod
