- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and with me is Luna. How are you today, Luna? Luna: I'm great, Lucas. You know, I just got off the phone with my friend. It made me think—we haven't learned the verb for 'to call' yet in Norwegian. Lucas: Oh, perfect timing. Today we're going to learn 'å ringe'—to call. It's a very useful verb. Luna: Å ringe. Okay, let me try that. Å ringe. Lucas: Exactly. Å ringe. Now let's start with 'I call'. In Norwegian, that's 'jeg ringer'. Luna: Jeg ringer. So 'ringer' is the present tense form? Lucas: That's right. Jeg ringer. Repeat after me: jeg ringer. Luna: Jeg ringer. Lucas: Good. Now if you want to say 'call me', you say 'ring meg'. Luna: Ring meg. That sounds like a command, right? Lucas: Yes, it's the imperative form. Ring meg. Try it. Luna: Ring meg. Lucas: Perfect. And 'I'll call you' is 'jeg ringer deg'. Luna: Jeg ringer deg. So 'deg' is 'you'. Jeg ringer deg. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's put it together. Imagine you're talking to a friend. You could say 'jeg ringer deg i morgen'. Luna: Jeg ringer deg i morgen. That means 'I'll call you tomorrow'? Lucas: Yes. I morgen means tomorrow. Good job. Luna: Okay, so if I want to ask 'can you call me?', that would be 'kan du ringe meg?'? Lucas: Exactly right. Kan du ringe meg? Try saying that. Luna: Kan du ringe meg? Lucas: Perfect. Kan du ringe meg? is a very common phrase. Luna: I love that. So now I can make phone plans in Norwegian. Lucas: Absolutely. Let's do a quick dialogue. I'll be Person A, and you be Person B. I say: 'Kan du ringe meg i kveld?'. Luna: I guess that means 'Can you call me tonight?' So I'll say: 'Ja, jeg ringer deg.' Lucas: Ja, jeg ringer deg. Perfect. That's exactly right. Luna: This is so practical. And it ties in well with other verbs we've learned, like 'å si' or 'å spørre'. Lucas: Right. Luna: Jeg ringer deg. Lucas: Great. Now let's try a full sentence: 'Jeg ringer deg når jeg kommer hjem'. Luna: That means 'I'll call you when I get home'. Let me try: Jeg ringer deg når jeg kommer hjem. Lucas: Excellent. You've got it. Luna: I feel like I can actually use this next time I talk to my Norwegian friend. Lucas: Do it. And remember, the more you use these phrases, the more natural they'll become. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This was a great episode. Lucas: You're welcome.
