- 0:00Speaker 1: We have community.
- 0:00Speaker 2: How you doing, Alex, I'm doing good.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Thank you. You know, we got to visit a little
- 0:04Speaker 1: bit beforehand. Local ownership of anything in our community is
- 0:10Speaker 1: a huge plus, and we have local ownership right here
- 0:14Speaker 1: at Bartlesville Health and Rehab Community. Got to be proud
- 0:17Speaker 1: of that.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Oh, very proud. Yeah.
- 0:19Speaker 3: We've been here since nineteen ninety six and anyway, Yeah,
- 0:26Speaker 3: we're very proud, and it's kind of unusual for an
- 0:28Speaker 3: owner to be in the facility.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Every day, so we're very proud.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I got to tell you. It's reassuring to a lot
- 0:35Speaker 1: of people because when they go in, whether it is
- 0:38Speaker 1: for you know, getting some work done or if you're
- 0:42Speaker 1: going to become a resident, it's nice to know that
- 0:46Speaker 1: you're not a number to somebody in New York City
- 0:48Speaker 1: or LA you're going to, you're gonna be seen because
- 0:51Speaker 1: you're there every day.
- 0:54Speaker 2: That is correct. Yeah, we realize that everybody that stays.
- 0:57Speaker 3: There is very special and they have a name just
- 1:00Speaker 3: like we do, and you know, we try to get
- 1:04Speaker 3: to know them the best we can. Uh. Some some
- 1:08Speaker 3: people are there for short term, for the skilled.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Care, for the therapy.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah, others are there for long term and we get
- 1:16Speaker 3: to know them, and they just I mean, our science
- 1:18Speaker 3: says it all. We are family, from employees all the
- 1:21Speaker 3: way through uh, the residents that stay are there, through
- 1:25Speaker 3: the families over the loved ones.
- 1:26Speaker 1: So and one of the things that I've been hearing
- 1:29Speaker 1: so many great compliments about is that that patio you
- 1:33Speaker 1: put out there, cookouts, meetings and greetings and folks just
- 1:36Speaker 1: kind of getting along and making friendships out there. And
- 1:40Speaker 1: it's just a real central part of community out there.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Oh, definitely.
- 1:43Speaker 3: We uh, we've had cookouts for years and we really
- 1:46Speaker 3: never had a spot, and we had we have this.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We have a spot now. We built a big patio
- 1:53Speaker 2: out there.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It's under a tree, it's always in the shade, there's
- 1:56Speaker 3: a breeze. We have different activities out there, singers, dancers,
- 2:02Speaker 3: you name it.
- 2:03Speaker 2: We do all kinds of stuff out there.
- 2:04Speaker 1: All right, keep everybody engaged, definitely. Now I'm gonna cut
- 2:08Speaker 1: This is just a short little story that he told
- 2:10Speaker 1: me before we got on here. You can make the
- 2:12Speaker 1: darnedest friends in the darnest places. And you were telling
- 2:16Speaker 1: me that in your first place where you worked, you
- 2:18Speaker 1: had a sheriff, had an outlaw who became friends that happens,
- 2:25Speaker 1: doesn't it, Yes, it.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Does, it does.
- 2:27Speaker 3: There's a lot of friendships there made, and there's people
- 2:31Speaker 3: that went to high school together.
- 2:32Speaker 2: They haven't seen each.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Other for a long time and then they meet up there.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yep, they meet up there and they become friends. So
- 2:40Speaker 3: it's really nice to say it is.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And you know, the way you were telling me help
- 2:44Speaker 1: folks get welcomed in is really pretty cool because one
- 2:48Speaker 1: of the residents actually kind of helps on the committee. Yes,
- 2:52Speaker 1: they get to help out a little bit. Yes, that
- 2:54Speaker 1: works out pretty good, doesn't it.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it works out great. Gives us all a
- 2:58Speaker 3: sense of purpose and they help us out out. And
- 3:00Speaker 3: if somebody's new coming in, we have a We have
- 3:03Speaker 3: people that go and meet and greet and show them
- 3:06Speaker 3: where the bathrooms are and where the shower, where the
- 3:09Speaker 3: shower is, where the dining room is, and you know,
- 3:15Speaker 3: they make a friend.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's easier than high school orientation. Definitely. I'm saying this
- 3:22Speaker 1: because he almost became a high school coach. You know.
- 3:24Speaker 1: But Alex, I got to tell you, you've been doing
- 3:26Speaker 1: this for thirty one years. You don't look like you're
- 3:28Speaker 1: old enough to be anywhere for thirty one years. But
- 3:30Speaker 1: congratulations on all those years of experience and my how
- 3:34Speaker 1: things have changed and for the better too.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yes, indeed, yeah, it's not regimented anymore like it was
- 3:41Speaker 3: when I first started.
- 3:44Speaker 2: You know, you can get up when you want, just
- 3:46Speaker 2: like we do. You can go eat when you want.
- 3:51Speaker 3: We have a great dining room dining program.
- 3:56Speaker 2: It's you sit down, you order off a menu, just
- 3:59Speaker 2: like anywhere else.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Wow.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And then you know, during when the weather gets good
- 4:05Speaker 3: like this, we have cookouts once a month or we
- 4:08Speaker 3: some residents if they want to go eat out, we
- 4:11Speaker 3: load the bus and we take them to different places
- 4:13Speaker 3: in town. Just try to keep as active as possible
- 4:17Speaker 3: and just being proactive. And there's no really it's more
- 4:22Speaker 3: person centered because everybody likes stuff different, nobody likes the
- 4:25Speaker 3: same thing all the time.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You even have units where folks can you know, just
- 4:31Speaker 1: like anywhere else, in a nice apartment living there, but
- 4:35Speaker 1: with some nice little extras that come along with it too.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Yeah, we have independent living apartments. We have skilled nursing care,
- 4:42Speaker 3: we do long term care. We do it all from
- 4:44Speaker 3: A to z A the apartments.
- 4:47Speaker 2: They really like it. It's one story.
- 4:52Speaker 3: They you know, we go to Walmart we make a
- 4:55Speaker 3: Walmart trip. We have housekeeping in the apartment, stuff like that.
- 5:01Speaker 3: But normally when we don't have anybody move out of
- 5:05Speaker 3: the apartments.
- 5:06Speaker 2: When they get there, they just love it.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's where I heard. There's a little bit
- 5:09Speaker 1: of a waiting. It never hurts to get on the list.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yes see, somebody decides to change. Yeah, but wow, that's
- 5:15Speaker 1: really nice. It kind of gets spoiled, don't they.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, big time, big time.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Now I know that your work crew's have been busy
- 5:22Speaker 1: every time as someone does decide that they're gonna move
- 5:26Speaker 1: on that that thing gets top to bottom just completely redone.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah, we've been doing a lot of remodeling here lately.
- 5:37Speaker 3: We've probably oh, I don't know. I think the last
- 5:40Speaker 3: time I looked, we've probably put about six hundred thousand
- 5:42Speaker 3: in the building over the past two years, and we
- 5:45Speaker 3: still have more to go. So we're where were we
- 5:49Speaker 3: doing a lot of stuff inside?
- 5:50Speaker 1: How's that lighting coming along?
- 5:52Speaker 3: Lighting's coming along slowly, but surely, one hallway at a time.
- 5:55Speaker 3: But yeah, I didn't that was one thing that we
- 5:59Speaker 3: needed to get addressed.
- 6:01Speaker 2: The lighting just wasn't right.
- 6:05Speaker 3: But now we have the can lights throughout the hallway
- 6:08Speaker 3: and in the dining room and knocking all the popcorn
- 6:11Speaker 3: off the ceiling, which makes a mess, but everybody's dealt
- 6:15Speaker 3: with it. The guys that live there, they love it.
- 6:19Speaker 3: They compliment on it all the time and they really
- 6:22Speaker 3: like the new lights and the new ceilings and the
- 6:24Speaker 3: ceiling fan.
- 6:25Speaker 2: And we've added flooring.
- 6:29Speaker 3: We've added all new kitchen equipment here recently, so things
- 6:32Speaker 3: are moving in the right.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Direction, very good. We're talking with Alex out he's with
- 6:36Speaker 1: Bartletwell help and we have community locally owned, locally operated.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You're not a number from out of town. You are
- 6:43Speaker 1: a resident right here in the community, just like alex is.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And I think that is very important for a lot
- 6:48Speaker 1: of folks their peace of mind. It truly is. And
- 6:52Speaker 1: you also touched on a little bit. Every now and
- 6:54Speaker 1: then you bring in folks to kind of entertain and
- 6:58Speaker 1: kind of break up the day to day bit.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Oh definitely.
- 7:01Speaker 3: We have different church groups, different singing grooves. We have
- 7:06Speaker 3: some dance groups that come in, so it's not the
- 7:11Speaker 3: same thing over and over and over. We have an
- 7:15Speaker 3: activities program. We're always doing something.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I understand you got a bit of a celebrity there.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Bo is the therapy dog.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Oh cash cash yeah, cash yeah, cash cash.
- 7:27Speaker 3: He goes to work with me every day and he
- 7:30Speaker 3: spends time in the facility and they don't even care
- 7:33Speaker 3: to see me anymore. They just wanting over cash the dog. Yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 3: where's the dog. That's all they care about. So it's
- 7:39Speaker 3: pretty awesome.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Another thing is too, is that you break community minded
- 7:43Speaker 1: as well, because the bloodmobile makes periodic stops there and
- 7:47Speaker 1: it seems like they're never out of shortage. It seems
- 7:50Speaker 1: like everybody's ready to roll up and do it.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:52Speaker 3: We started doing that a couple of years ago during
- 7:54Speaker 3: the COVID outbreak when they were wanting plasma and things
- 7:57Speaker 3: of that nature, and so we just decided, hey, we
- 8:01Speaker 3: could be a stop. We could be a place where
- 8:03Speaker 3: people could come and give blood if they want.
- 8:05Speaker 2: And that's worked out.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Well. Oh indeed, you know you're really easy to find,
- 8:09Speaker 1: tellerbody Worthy.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Well, we're one block north of Jane Phillips Hospital.
- 8:14Speaker 3: That's a pretty good line center for a block long.
- 8:17Speaker 3: You can't miss us.
- 8:20Speaker 1: You go right there on Kentucky Avenue. My goodness, thinks
- 8:23Speaker 1: you know I've talked to the young miss Brown that
- 8:27Speaker 1: comes in Sandra. Yeah, who comes in here and she
- 8:31Speaker 1: just beams because, you know, she says, it's pretty cool. Yeah,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you know, we we actually get to work there. It's
- 8:36Speaker 1: pretty It's pretty nice because it is a lot like family,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and you make such good friends with the residents. You know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: it just seems like a pretty nice day to day.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's like I said, we have a lot
- 8:49Speaker 3: of fun. We have water gun fights. We have I
- 8:52Speaker 3: went and bought NERF guns one day, and uh.
- 8:55Speaker 2: We had NERF gun.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Fights and uh, you know, with a staff and and
- 9:00Speaker 3: and the residents that lived there, they just they eat
- 9:03Speaker 3: it up. They just loved doing that stuff. So try
- 9:06Speaker 3: to keep it as fun as possible.
- 9:08Speaker 1: You know, I don't care how old we fellas get
- 9:11Speaker 1: deep down and say there's a nine year old boy
- 9:13Speaker 1: just itching to get out.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Oh definitely, definitely.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I got popped quite a few times coming around corners.
- 9:20Speaker 2: They set me up.
- 9:21Speaker 1: More than once. Now, you said, you've got a whole
- 9:24Speaker 1: new kitchen the area there too. That's how I wasn't
- 9:27Speaker 1: worre of. I bet that's a that turned out pretty
- 9:30Speaker 1: pretty cool for everyone.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 3: We we bought new steam tables, new oven, new convection oven,
- 9:37Speaker 3: we're we're just trying to upgrade a little bit of
- 9:40Speaker 3: a time.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Like I said, we're we're not a big corporation. This
- 9:43Speaker 2: is it.
- 9:44Speaker 3: This is uh the only one we we operate and
- 9:49Speaker 3: you know we're mom.
- 9:50Speaker 2: And pop, so we do it a little bit at
- 9:52Speaker 2: a time.
- 9:53Speaker 1: But you might be the youngest pop I've ever seen.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But over the uh.
- 9:57Speaker 3: But like I said, everybody that lives there, they're always
- 10:02Speaker 3: so accommodating whenever we have to do something on inside
- 10:09Speaker 3: because that can disrupt you know, they're day to day,
- 10:12Speaker 3: but they've always just to just.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Dealt with it.
- 10:16Speaker 3: And you know they're happy with the changes. And I
- 10:21Speaker 3: don't know, Uh, they're just happy, Alex.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Your therapy crew, they work wonders because I know people
- 10:29Speaker 1: who've had to go in and do some therapeutic work.
- 10:32Speaker 1: They're kind of there with saying, thinking, Jim, any Christmas, Noel,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I ever get to walk right again? Will I ever
- 10:38Speaker 1: get to use this hand right? Will this pain in
- 10:40Speaker 1: my neck ever go away? And will I be able
- 10:44Speaker 1: to speak better? And you've got some miracle workers there.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I mean, I'm gonna say, we're all human. We're not
- 10:50Speaker 1: going to do anything with magical powers, right, but daily
- 10:53Speaker 1: victories are so important not only to the class, but
- 10:56Speaker 1: also to your your therapy people there. They're kind of celebrated,
- 10:59Speaker 1: aren't they.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Oh, definitely, our therapists are outstanding. They you know, just
- 11:04Speaker 3: from coming to a facility for skilled care, they've been
- 11:09Speaker 3: in the hospital, had a fall. There's a depression that
- 11:12Speaker 3: sets in things of that nature that we really fight
- 11:14Speaker 3: really hard. And once they start seeing progress, once they
- 11:19Speaker 3: start getting better and better and better, and then they
- 11:22Speaker 3: go home and it's just an amazing thing that they
- 11:26Speaker 3: do well.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It seems to me that you're treating the whole person,
- 11:29Speaker 1: not just an injury that's just a surgery. You're you're
- 11:32Speaker 1: treating the heart, mind, and soul all at the same time.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Definitely, Yeah, we're not gonna sit in a room and
- 11:38Speaker 3: stare at the wall. No, not gonna happen. Not gonna happen.
- 11:42Speaker 3: We're gonna get up, we're gonna do something. We're gonna
- 11:45Speaker 3: figure out something that you want to do, and then
- 11:47Speaker 3: we're gonna go do it.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Now.
- 11:49Speaker 1: If someone wants to make a visit, maybe on their
- 11:52Speaker 1: on behalf or perhaps on the on behalf of their
- 11:54Speaker 1: parents or a loved one who you know, may need
- 11:58Speaker 1: your services. How do you get hold of you?
- 12:01Speaker 2: So they can call our main number at nine one
- 12:03Speaker 2: eight three three three, nine five four or five ask
- 12:06Speaker 2: for Sandra Brown or Kristin.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Ryan. Kristen does our admissions. If you just want to
- 12:11Speaker 3: come in and look around on your own, you can
- 12:15Speaker 3: do that too. There's really I mean, we would encourage
- 12:20Speaker 3: an appointment for a tour, but if you don't want
- 12:24Speaker 3: to do that and you want to come sign in
- 12:26Speaker 3: and you want to see it yourself, you can do
- 12:28Speaker 3: that too.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Wow, that's pretty cool. Now will you know everything? You
- 12:32Speaker 1: know the whole score. Yeah, coming in and everything else,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and you can make a very good and valued decision
- 12:39Speaker 1: for you or your loved ones. I like that. Very open,
- 12:42Speaker 1: very comedy, very transparent.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Definitely. Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Transparency is a big thing. I mean we have a
- 12:46Speaker 3: very open line of communication with families. We want to
- 12:49Speaker 3: know if something's right or something's wrong. And the same thing,
- 12:54Speaker 3: you know, we tell people that the residents that live there, Hey,
- 12:57Speaker 3: if you don't like something, you need to tell us.
- 12:59Speaker 2: We'll fix it. We'll get it right.
- 13:01Speaker 3: So, because we want to be as accommodating as possible
- 13:06Speaker 3: and open line of communication, constant communication with families.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Is vital, Alex. Is there anything I might have missed?
- 13:15Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I try to be thorough here, but you know, our
- 13:18Speaker 1: time is kind of running out here again. But I
- 13:21Speaker 1: do want to thank you for coming in. It's great
- 13:23Speaker 1: to meet you. I've heard a lot about you face
- 13:27Speaker 1: to face. Well, I don't know. Sandra says you's pretty nice. Yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 1: but anyway, you can meet Alex yourself too. Just give
- 13:38Speaker 1: me a shout. And of course Bartletal Health and Rehab
- 13:41Speaker 1: Community just the north of the hospital. You can't miss it.
