- 2:07I want to follow up on something we really don't have anything new to
- 2:09report, in the Huggins situation from yesterday. Some people were thinking there you
- 2:15know, the apologies came out from Huggins, and they came out from the
- 2:17university within an hour or two after the incident. Some people thought there would
- 2:23be some sort of an announcement from the university yesterday. Didn't happen. Don't
- 2:27know if it will happen today or not. I'm one that thought there would
- 2:29be another statement from the university yesterday, but it didn't happen. If it
- 2:34does happen, of course during the show will have it for you, But
- 2:37if it happens throughout the day, we'll have it for you as well.
- 2:39So we got that coming up. I'm gonna spend some time talking to the
- 2:44state Democratic Party chair and delegate, Mike Pushkin, who's going to be in
- 2:46a Parmar store studio. We'll talk to him about several things going on in

- 3:02good morning, how are you hi? Good morning, Dave. Thank
- 3:07you for having me on to announce my candidacy, and also congratulations to you
- 3:13the station and our colleagues for its incredible and very proud performance in the recent
- 3:19West Nshion Year Broadcasting Association Awards. Were well done to everyone. Well,
- 3:23thank you, Brad. We appreciate that it was. It was a great
- 3:24night to be a part of the family across the board at WVRC Media,
- 3:29but particularly here in Charleston. I mean yeah. For the tenth straight year,
- 3:31WHS one the news Talk Station of the Year, our colleagues V one
- 3:36hundred Adult Contemporary Station of the Year, KWS ninety six point one superstar Country
- 3:40Country Station of the Year. Woody Woods of course got for he had the
- 3:46great promotion he does on the beat with a backpack attack each summer just before
- 3:50school starts got Promotions of the year, and of course Chris and Carry and
- 3:53the entire news team cleaned up as well. So proud to be a part
- 3:55of it, my man. And you're a big part of it as well,
- 3:59probably a bigger star than anybody here, Brad oh Man. Well,
- 4:01that's why I'm announcing my candidacy. But I guess you know, it's it's
- 4:05late being a part of the Avengers. Like you know, we all do
- 4:09our own thing, but then we come together for something even greater. There
- 4:13you go, and that's what we're here. We're here to save the world,
- 4:15Brad. That's what it's all about. I don't know how whether we
- 4:17succeed in that or not, but I do want to get to your lead
- 4:20story at wv Metronews dot com, and it has to do with charter schools.
- 4:25In the Supreme Court now, West Virginia Supreme Court justices heard arguments whether
- 4:29the system to approve charter schools is constitutional. Important to note, as as
- 4:35you do in the article, the battle, Brad, is not about whether
- 4:39the state can have charter schools. That's long been settled, but rather whether
- 4:44they may be authorized through this professional charter school board. Explain it to us
- 4:48and take it from there. Yeah, that that is the case. It's
- 4:53it's specifically an argument over how West Virginia is authorizing charter schools. But if
- 4:59the challengers would prevail on this question, you know it would it would throw
- 5:02a wrench in the charter school system. So there will be a practical matter
- 5:06as well. The original lawsuit was brought on behalf of Sam Brunette of Marion
- 5:15County and Robert McLeod of Canaw County, and they and their lawyers site,
- 5:19this is gonna be good radio. I'm gonna I'm gonna read the constitutional clause
- 5:24that they site. All boy, Yeah, everybody gets your radio DVRs and
- 5:30record this right. No, no independent free school, district or organization shall
- 5:35hereafter be created except with the consent of the school district or districts out of
- 5:43which the same is to be created, except expressed by a majority of the
- 5:47voters voting on the question. So that is a very old aspect of West
- 5:55Virginia's Constitution written into the institution, long before charter schools were were ever considered.
- 6:03And it you know, it had to do with the first formation of
- 6:08public schools in Westbrigina to say, because prior to that, basically all schools
- 6:11were charter schools, I guess, right, yeah, well yeah, and
- 6:14what the districts would be, and if the legislature could come in and divide
- 6:18up those original districts. But it establishes the right for the citizens to vote
- 6:26regarding what the school districts are going to be in their communities. And so
- 6:30mister McLeod and mister Brunette are saying that that should apply in this case.
- 6:35When when West Virginia first allowed charter schools, it was pretty late to the
- 6:40game, but in two nineteen, right. Originally the process was charter school
- 6:47applicants would go to their county boards and ask for approval. Well, the
- 6:53very first one out of the gate, one in Morgantown, was shot down
- 6:58by the Montagala County School Board and by the Preston County School Board. It
- 7:03was one that was supposed to sort of straddle both and they, for whatever
- 7:08reason, they said, no, I'm not going to do it. So
- 7:11the legislature came back and established the West Virginia Professional Charter School's Board, which
- 7:16is named by the governor and approved by the state Senate its members. So
- 7:25the question is here, should there is not a voting process of the citizens
- 7:30of a particular account in this route to approval by the West Virginia Professional Charter
- 7:35Schools Board. Should that section of the constitution apply in this case? So
- 7:43let's take the one in Canak County, because you go to Knau County audience
- 7:46the Nitro, the Nitro Academy has been under consideration. It actually was approved
- 7:55a couple of years ago, and it would be a part of it would
- 8:00be a Churner school, but it would be in the West Virginia Public Schools
- 8:03system. It still isn't actually underway, but under under that section of the
- 8:09constitution, should the voters of Canaw County have some say so through a vote
- 8:15or through the local board. One of the big questions is if you if
- 8:18you think about Nitro, it's not just a school that is supposed to draw
- 8:24from Canaw County, it's it's supposed to draw from Putnham County also, So
- 8:28so how do you apply this section of the constitution? Should in that case,
- 8:33should the citizens of Cannaw and Putnham Counties get a vote somehow? Should
- 8:39should both of those boards be able to approve the Nitro Academy. This is
- 8:46a question that's now before the five members of the State Supreme Court. And
- 8:50you know, I think it's interesting because it's a challenging thing to think about,
- 8:54and it's it's to me, it's sort of a mental challenge to figure
- 8:58out, all right, does the specific aspect of the state constitution apply in
- 9:05the case of charter schools? So what does it go from here? Brad?
- 9:07I mean, where are we on this? And again I would urge
- 9:11people to go over to the website and read you that's the cover storywv Metronews
- 9:15dot com. But but where does it go from here? Well, the
- 9:18Justice has heard oral arguments yesterday. What they were actually being asked was the
- 9:24case originally went to conocer to court where state government cases go. And Judge
- 9:30Walker origin sorry, yeah, Judge Jennifer Bailey originally said that she thought the
- 9:39case had a good chance of succeeding on the merits, and she issued a
- 9:43preliminary injunction. That's been a while now, late twenty twenty one. The
- 9:48Supreme Court a while back issue a stay, which is why we now have
- 9:54charter schools. They've allowed the process to go forward until they could hear it
- 9:58just a little more. And now they are being asked to completely lift Judge
- 10:05Bailey's original preliminary injunction, and they are being asked to send it back to
- 10:11her to vacate the thing entirely. In addition to the question of whether that
- 10:16section of the Constitution applies, there are additional sort of procedural questions. Those
- 10:22who originally sued named Governor Justice and named Speaker Handshaw and President Blair. A
- 10:31question within the whole thing is, well, you know, what can they
- 10:33do, particularly Senator Senator Blair and Speaker Hanshaw. You know, their entities
- 10:39make law, but the law is now already made right, so they don't
- 10:43necessarily have any recourse. The question with Governor Justice is can he telled the
- 10:48West Virginia Professional Charter Schools Board what to do under the threat of removing them
- 10:52from the board or whatever? Or could the governor call a special election,
- 10:58whether it's statewide or in the particular counties to comply with this section of the
- 11:03constitution. So still a lot to be ironed out by court. Mostly the
- 11:11questions yesterday were asked by Justice Armstead was very active, asked quite a few
- 11:16questions, notable that he's a former Speaker of the House, has been has
- 11:22been supportive of charter schools in his political life in the past. Judge sorry,
- 11:31Justice Haley Haley Bunn asked a couple of questions. Chief Justice Walker just
- 11:39asked, like one or two sort of procedural questions, where do we stand
- 11:43on this? Justices Wooten and Hutchinson just didn't ask anything at all. It's
- 11:50it's fairly easy for me, given the makeup of the court, to imagine
- 11:54a three to two decision in favor of keeping the charter school system as it
- 12:00is. But you know, some some elements of what the challenges are asking
- 12:05are sort of traditional conservative ideas that the citizens should have a vote, that
- 12:13the taxpayers should have some direct or representative say in what is happening with their
- 12:20school systems. I mean to me, those overlap with traditional conservative ideas.
- 12:26So it'll be interesting to see what how how this largely conservative Supreme Court majority
- 12:35comes down and what their reasons are when they back it up. We followed
- 12:39in the story all day before we let you go. Brad Interham's just wrapped
- 12:41up in Honeyton on the campus of Marshall. What came out of that,
- 12:46Well, you know, the nature of interms has nothing ever comes out well.
- 12:48The true there were a couple things that interested me though. I mean
- 12:54they're basically homework and updates, and they are meant or legislators to be in
- 13:00formed as they moved toward the regular session or a special session. Meant to
- 13:05make legislators better informed. So West Virginia has a major initiative based on federal
- 13:11funding for broadband to roll out, and the Development Secretary of Mitch Carmichael gave
- 13:18a pretty optimistic view of trying to roll high speed internet out to West Virginia
- 13:24rural communities. Twenty four projects identified, three completed using that those funds.
- 13:30Already, it's going to be a while. You know, what people really
- 13:33want to know is let me know when I have my broadband and it's in
- 13:37good shape. The sort of the steps. In the meantime, it's hard
- 13:43to get people's attention, but West Virginia is hard at work on rolling out
- 13:46more broadband. The jails crisis continues, and there was an update about staffing
- 13:52in the jails. Now a thousand and forty vacancies in jails across West Virginia
- 14:00jails, juvenile facilities, and Mount Olive, the Correctional Center, the prison
- 14:07all above fort vacancy levels and still no consensus between the legislature and the governor
- 14:16about what to do. The governor has called generally for locality pay. But
- 14:20those those jails that are that have such high vacancy rates, they're just all
- 14:26across the state. I mean some are even the Eastern Painting though, but
- 14:28others are in Doddridge County or Mount to Olive itself is in Fayette County.
- 14:35So it's you know, what's what's frustrating from a citizen viewpoint, I think
- 14:39is seeing an officially declared emergency such such such a sort of frozen political atmosphere
- 14:50on addressing what has been an emergency now for nine months. Well, I
- 14:56get Mike Pushkin here, who of course delegated the Sydne Democratic Party chair.
- 15:01He'll be in the next segment, so we'll get the interesting to see mister
- 15:03Pushkins take on this before we let you go, Brad, I don't know
- 15:07if you happened to listen to the show yesterday, but everybody's talking about how
- 15:09ugly this battle for us Center between Governor Justice and Congressman Mooney is going to
- 15:13be. Well, hold my beer, because you may want to turn your
- 15:16attention to the state. The race with State Senator Ryan Weld versus State Senator
- 15:20Mike Stewart for Attorney General. Stewart fired the first shots on the show last
- 15:24Thursday. Weld fired back yesterday. If you haven't heard it, I would
- 15:28say go over to a WCHS network dot com or check out our Facebook page,
- 15:35my Facebook page, day Allen Radio, listen to the shows and get
- 15:37back on me, because this is going to be one to watch. Brad,
- 15:39go ahead, you got about thirty seconds. Go ahead. Oh my
- 15:43gosh. Well, I mean the thing about starting these races so earlier.
- 15:46Those are two guys who are going to have to be in the same caucuses,
- 15:50the same supermajority, the same committee meetings, they both serve on Judiciary
- 15:54over the next year, and it's going to be hard to separate the politics
- 15:58from the policy. Yeah, we'll see what happens. Hey, Brad,

- 19:34it was off. It was okay, thanks for turning my microphone on,
- 19:37and thanks for inviting me on. That's on me and uh, I'll start
- 19:41off by congratulating you and the entire family here at at it was at WCHS
- 19:47or all well, it was WCHS. We won talk station of the year
- 19:51for the tenth consecutive year. Well, Stuyah and the other stations also in
- 19:55the news department had a good night as well. So well, appreciateation to
- 19:57all, you know, all of our friends on the airways, but especially
- 20:02do you Dave, I want to congratulate you in particular, Well, thank
- 20:03you, uh because I like coming on here and talking to you and I
- 20:07think you do a good job. Well do we have that? Ryan?
- 20:11Do what he just said that do you think I do a good job?
- 20:14All right? Mark? Then yeah, yeah, of course a lot of
- 20:17your you know listeners like to disagree with me on everything. Well that's okay,
- 20:21that's if we could just have more civil discourse than the world would be
- 20:25a lot matter. Civil discourse being the keyword there speaking a civil discourse,
- 20:29all right. So that on the same night, the very same time when
- 20:33uh WCHS was getting this major award for best News Radio, Best Talk Radio,
- 20:40um, there was another event here in Charleston. I think it was
- 20:42the Canall County Republican Executive Committee had their annual fundraise or the Lincoln Day Dinner.
- 20:49I saw some bits and pieces of the video and uh wow, first
- 20:55I know that they invited candidates for UH for the goobernatorial candidates and of course
- 21:00to congressional candidates. But only one congressional candidate showed up to my knowledge,
- 21:04and that was was Derek Evans, and he gave quite a speech, of
- 21:10course, full of you know, election denial and conspiracy theories and um.
- 21:15It was very different from the speech he gave to the judge when he was
- 21:17getting sentenced. By the way, he was a lot less apologetic, a
- 21:22lot less humble. His tone has definitely changed since he's been released from prison.
- 21:26But it was, it was, it was out there, and I
- 21:30heard a lot of amends and preach it brothers coming from the from the choir
- 21:33in the room. So I'm glad to see that you weren't there. You
- 21:37were getting your major award across town. And of course they also had I
- 21:40believe another guest or a speaker was this guy, a doctor Douglas Frank,
- 21:45who travels around the country UH spreading uh in misinformation about the twenty twenty election.
- 21:53In fact, this guy has been under federal getting investigation too. I
- 21:56believe he's had his computers and photes see by the FBI. I mean,
- 22:03it sounds like I mean and yeah, um yeah, this is what they
- 22:07wanted to promote their at their dinner. Meanwhile, I went up to your
- 22:11neck of the woods, Putnam County on Sunday for a democratic function. It
- 22:15was the Democratic Women of Putnam County had all three of them there. We
- 22:18had a packed house, a packed house in Eleanor, and Eleanor Town that
- 22:22is named after Eleanor was our favorite version the cleanest town in West Virginia's right.
- 22:26And uh it was also created under the New Deal, which is a
- 22:30democratic policy from one of our greatest presidents, FDR. But uh, yeah,
- 22:34but there was a great event there and the keynote speaker there was Joan
- 22:38Browning, who was one of the original Freedom writers. And it was a
- 22:41beautiful event. It was just um, it was very uplifting and um moving
- 22:45event. And that's what we had on our side, while on the other
- 22:48side they had election deniers and and people who stormed the capitol speaking. So
- 22:53yeah, you took to Twitter to talk about that. Actually, I was
- 22:57reading your comments on on on Twitter about about the Derek Evans appearance at the
- 23:03Canalla County Lincoln Day the Executive Committee fan. Well, yeah, because like
- 23:06about a day and a half or so before the event, he was on
- 23:08Twitter saying that he supported the Proud Boys proudly. He was proudly supporting a
- 23:14white supremacist group. And at that point I think that the chair of the
- 23:18Knall County Republicans should have pulled the plug on on his his speaking engagement.
- 23:22He should have been disinvited at that point when he's out there, you don't
- 23:27think he has a right to speak. I mean, I mean, I'm
- 23:30not a Derek Evans fan by any stretch of the imagination, But you don't
- 23:33think he has a right. He has a right to speak, but not
- 23:36everybody has a right to speak at Not everybody was invited to speak at a
- 23:38dinner. Not everybody has a right to speak at a function. He can,
- 23:42he can, Yeah, he has a right to free speech. That
- 23:44doesn't mean he should have been invited when he is, uh, you know,
- 23:48stating his support for the Proud but candidate I would want to distance myself
- 23:52if I was, I would want to distance myself from somebody who wants to
- 23:56embrace white supremacist groups. But if that, but if they were worried about
- 23:59upsetting the Bay, maybe that's why they don't want a distance, but I
- 24:02mean, is he is a candidate though, that's my point, Mike,
- 24:04I don't. I mean I I don't agree with the guy on anything,
- 24:07but he is a candidate. I mean he has a right to speak,
- 24:11does he not? Whether you agree or disagree. I'd like to see where
- 24:14he's polling in that race. He's not, he has no chance of winning.
- 24:17Well, do you have every single candidate on do you have on your
- 24:19show? I have any candidate that asked to be on the show. Okay,
- 24:22Well, well, yeah, that's that's good for you. But I'd
- 24:26say a lot of times you'll see where, like you know, there are
- 24:29debates and they don't. People aren't often invited if they're polling it less than
- 24:32one percent. Well, now, I just got some information that there was
- 24:34a one thousand dollars speaking fee for the dinner, and so he must have
- 24:38paid it. So you had to you had to pay in order to speak
- 24:41at this event. I get, I wasn't. It's nice to know that
- 24:44the republic Republican Party is willing to sell their their morals and sell out and
- 24:49uh, you know, give up their responsibility to have a civil discussion and
- 24:55instead invite somebody who is claiming his public support for the Proud Boys, well,
- 25:00which is uh, I mean, and and he's he's claiming his support
- 25:03for a domestic terrorist group and that's who he wanted our dinner. Well you
- 25:07and I I mean again, I don't agree. I'll say it again for
- 25:11the fiftieth time. I don't agree with the guy. But if he has
- 25:15a right, he's a candidate, and he has a right to speak,
- 25:18in my opinion, and didn't free speech again when when there's been a lot
- 25:21of talk about free speech this week with the Huggin situation, you know,
- 25:25it protects what you like and what you don't like. I don't, I
- 25:26don't. Necessarily that's not a free speech issue either the government at the free
- 25:32speech is whether the government has a right to limit speech. It does not.
- 25:34It's not the government limiting his speech. It'll be his employer, which
- 25:37is really the state of West Virginia. No. No, I mean,
- 25:41he's the highest page a state worker in the state and he should be smarter
- 25:44than to go on a want that and try his hand to comedy because he's
- 25:48not funny. It's offensive. And it was just I mean, it was
- 25:51ridiculous. It's something of a fourteen year old should be embarrassed, right,
- 25:55So, so since you brought what I sort of brought it up, but
- 25:56I didn't mean to to later, what should happen with and should he lose
- 26:00his job? I would agree with Sports Illustrated that said that he should do
- 26:04the state of favor and resign. I don't believe he will. I don't
- 26:08believe that Washington Post is also calling for this. I don't believe that the
- 26:12university will fire him. What I'm more concerned about Dave, and I'm gonna
- 26:15leave it at this. What I'm more concerned about is, like now,
- 26:18he probably won't be fired, But you know who does get fired in West
- 26:22Virginia. Anybody who is a member of the LGBTQ community. They can be
- 26:27fired because for who they are. They can be kicked out of their houses
- 26:32for who they are. So I'm more concerned about the legislators who have failed
- 26:37time and time again to pass the Fairness Act and give people employment protection protection
- 26:41and housing protection and public accommodations. We have a systemic problem in this state
- 26:47that we fail to address. I'm really more concerned about that than some stupid
- 26:52remark on a radio show. I made my living on stupid remarks on radio
- 26:56shows. I take that personally. Twenty six minutes away from ten five eighty
- 27:00Live, brought to you by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston dirty Birds,
- 27:03have a little daytime baseball. The Dirty Birds taking on Lancaster this morning
- 27:07started at ten thirty five at the ballpark. Tickets for more information, visit
- 27:11dirty Birds baseball dot com. All right, so were you at the at
- 27:15the game last night? I was unable to make the game last night.
- 27:18I had to go to attend I've been attending Democratic Executive Committee get your kind
- 27:22of busy County Executive Committee throughout the state, and actually was the shortest drive
- 27:26I had to make for one last night. I attended one at the Knall
- 27:30County Courthouse, which was the Knall County Democrats had a meeting last night which
- 27:33I'm actually an elected member of that of that committee. Uh yeah, it
- 27:37went well. Yeah. I got some texts here Texas Republican in fighting that
- 27:41we'll get in the way of policy and operating the government. How on brand
- 27:45of them? I'm going to sit back with popcorn while the West Virginia GOP
- 27:48implodes, says a texter. Well, that's what we're seeing already. I
- 27:52mean you mentioned, um, you know the already in the Attorney General's race
- 27:56orts taking shots at Ryan. Well. Well, I thought it was an
- 28:00interesting story today that you know, Mike Stewart was pushing for this some of
- 28:04these rescheduling bills that were aimed at create him. And I don't even know
- 28:10if I'm pronouncing it right, that create him or kred and um, you
- 28:11know the Delta aide and the different hemp products and he um must not have
- 28:15really read his own bill very closely, because he made a very big mistake
- 28:19and actually um outlawed xylazine test strips, which are used to test substances to
- 28:27make sure there's not a deadly this deadly new designer drug, make sure that
- 28:32that's not in this substance, and that will lead to people overdosing and loss
- 28:38of life. There's a huge mistake. He needs to read his own legislation.
- 28:42And did you hear the show yesterday with well the Stewart interview last week
- 28:47in the Ryan World interview yesterday, Um, I'll have to go back and
- 28:51listen. It's uh, this is going to be one I mean, like
- 28:53I said when I was talking to Brad earlier, everybody's talking about Mooney and
- 28:56Justice. This one is going to be ugly, and it's uh and it's
- 29:00it's really going to be ugly. And it's already started between Stewart and Weld
- 29:03for something that no an office. I don't want to downplay the Attorney General's
- 29:07office, but it is not one of the ones that gets a lot of
- 29:10the marquee headlines. Well, it's an important, very important office, and
- 29:12we're going to have a great candidate for that office. Oh really, but
- 29:15we're going to do it at and we're gonna make these announcements at a normal
- 29:19time. Okay, you got you got like what five or six people running
- 29:22for governor down We already know people that are run for Congress and for we
- 29:26have at least three running for Secretary of State. There's gonna be another one
- 29:29announcement the next couple of days. Another Republican. I understand, when aren't
- 29:32we going to see some Democrats. It's not a Memorial date yet, generally
- 29:36any closer to Labor Day, we're gonna We're decided, we're going to give
- 29:38the people a little break. Most people aren't paying attention to the to the
- 29:41twenty four election like like you and I do. If political junkies do,
- 29:45we're going to give the people a bit of a break. And we're having
- 29:48these discussions and we're making the phone calls, and we're gonna have uh formidable
- 29:52candidates from the top of the ticket to the bottom. And uh you know,
- 29:56if if Mike Stewart is is your party's nomin for attorney general and say
- 30:00bring it on. I mean, he doesn't read his own bills before he
- 30:03gets him passed. And now he's inadvertently cost a past a very harmful law
- 30:10that has outlawed these things that are there to save people's lives. I mean,
- 30:15I got carries around photos, he says. He claims to carry around
- 30:18photos of overdose victims Lea's I hope he doesn't have to put more photos in
- 30:22his wallet because of his own bill. I mean, knock out some texts
- 30:26here, says, don't you know? Bureaucrat Stewart is a corporate lawyer with
- 30:30an Ivory Tower law firm. One a man of the people. Hey,
- 30:32coal miners asked bureaucrat Stewart, how many minors this firm has represented in any
- 30:37case, text says quite telling when push quite Okay, I get it quite
- 30:45telling. When pushkin is railing, it gets Republicans. Because the Democrats have
- 30:48nothing to boast about. We have plenty to boast about. I mean,
- 30:53I want to talk about all the announcements that have been made over to past
- 30:57several months, whether it's investment in new core, investment in and the electric
- 31:03buses here in Kanall County, whether it's form Energy. I could go on.
- 31:07There's going to be uh, there's gonna be ground broken down in your
- 31:11neck of the woods, and Logan here on the east end of Charleston and
- 31:14Huntington's and all of that is from policies that were passed by by Democrats.
- 31:19Uh with them, whether it's the Inflation Reduction Act, whether it's American Rescue
- 31:23Plan. Of course, the infrastructure bill that had some had a few Republican
- 31:29votes, not a whole lot. But of course, you know Mooney didn't
- 31:32vote for it, Carol Miller didn't vote for it, but they were.
- 31:34They will gladly get a photo op in front of a ribbon cutting or groundbreaking
- 31:38for something they didn't vote for. So we have plenty to boast about Texas.
- 31:42Mike, if you're so unhappy in the legislature about all means, feel
- 31:45free to leave. I never said I was unhappy in the legislature. You're
- 31:48unhappy with the legislature not necessarily being there. Well, I'm unhappy with a
- 31:52lot of the policies that are coming out of it. But we did have
- 31:56some productive meetings in Huntington. Let's let's let's stop there a moment, because

- 35:22Mic Warner went on the w R and R talk radio and said that the
- 35:24twenty twenty election was thrown, it was stolen, and we should not rest
- 35:28easy. It's easy to see election to nine will be at front of the
- 35:31West Virginia GOP races in twenty twenty four. Pathetic. Yeah, let let
- 35:37me read it now, go ahead, go ahead, text done. Yeah,
- 35:40there's a text. It is pathetic and it's showing on the I mean,
- 35:45everybody involved in a Republican primary right now is involved in a race to
- 35:49the bottom to for Mac Warner as the chief election officer of the state to
- 35:52go out and put out absolutely no evidence, but because he's in a Republican
- 35:57primary and he wants to you know, out crazy as opponents because that seems
- 36:00to be what's selling on that side right now, and he's going out and
- 36:05putting out conspiracy theories and um it really it's an insult you know, all
- 36:08the election officials across the country. He's not put out an ounce of evidence,
- 36:14and it just goes back to you know what was on display the other
- 36:16night at this Lincoln Day dinner where you had this guy Douglas Frank. I'm
- 36:22not sure if he was a speaker or if I know he was there because
- 36:24I saw pictures of him. He is a he goes around the country putting
- 36:29out misinformation about the election. He backs it up with nothing. He's involved
- 36:32with this guy, the Pillow guy who recently lost a lawsuit thanks to a
- 36:37friend and Charleston attorney Bryan Glasser, who successfully sued him. And um,
- 36:45I just my thought was, you know, we had some there were some
- 36:49reasonable Republicans who are running and friends of mine who are running for governor.
- 36:53I know they were at the event. Did any of them get up and
- 36:57you know, try to distance themselves from the insurrection? This Derek Evans,
- 37:01I don't think we're you know, not a whole lot of profiles and courage
- 37:06going on right now. On the other side of the aisle, let's go
- 37:07to the phones. Jim, you're on with Mike Pushkin. Go ahead,
- 37:10alright, thanks a lord days. Hey Mike, Hey Jim, it's good
- 37:14to hear you. How are you feeling. Oh, I'm feeling better.
- 37:17I'll tell you I had a rough few days. I was accepting. Are
- 37:22you home now? Yeah, I'm home and uh running my mouth and getting
- 37:29back to the normal. I had a question about the LG be Qute community
- 37:37and I'm sorry, don't come after me, as I know that's not the
- 37:42right letters. I've mentioned it to a city council member that uh we probably
- 37:51needed to pass a tuple warding assists to protect them and uh reining doing different
- 38:00things. Who's going to get the last laugh? Has the legislature passed any
- 38:07ordinances like this? No? I think what you're bringing up the lot of
- 38:12municipalities starting in Charleston like twenty years ago. I think Charleston was the first
- 38:15to pass NONSCRI nondiscrimination nondiscrimination orders that means somebody can't simply be be fired,
- 38:22evicted, or denied public accommodations something because of who they are. I think.
- 38:28I think this is why I brought it up. Yeah, but Charleston
- 38:30did, Huntington's done it. There's been, like I believe around seventeen or
- 38:34eighteen. Someone's probably gonna correct me because I don't know the number off the
- 38:37top of my head. I've been many municipalities have done that, and the
- 38:38reason the municipalities are doing it is because the state legislature refuses to do it.
- 38:45We can't even get it on the Charleston, the huge metropolis of Thurmond,
- 38:51West Virginia, all six of them, Yeah, has passed it,
- 38:52and I thought that was that was that was cool. The reason they're doing
- 38:58is because the legislature can pass that legislation. The SIMPOLO does is expand the
- 39:02Human Human Rights Act to protect you right now, the Human Rights Act protect
- 39:07people for a race discrimination, religious discrimination. Actually it protects you for political
- 39:12discrimination. You can't legally be fired because of your political beliefs. But what
- 39:15it doesn't protect is m gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. And
- 39:21that's all that bill does is add to what's that. It's got it all
- 39:25covered. Well, unfortunately it doesn't have it all covered because it's missing those
- 39:30four important words from the State Human Rights Act. That's all the bill does,
- 39:34but the legislature refuses to even discuss it. All right, Jim,
- 39:37I hope that answered your question. I appreciate your phone call. Thanks,
- 39:40Jim. I'm really glad you're home. It's some one better and I wanted
- 39:43to come visit you. I apologize it didn't get a chance to, but
- 39:45you're just glad to be glad to It's great to hear your voice. Absolutely,
- 39:50I appreciate that and I know you would be there all right, Jim,
- 39:52We appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Five Ay life brought to you

- 40:07of insurrectionist Derek Evans, election deniers, white nationalists, seditionists and other hate
- 40:13mongers resonates with about thirty percent of their base. The GOP doesn't have the
- 40:16guts to tell the thirty percent that their views are a horrid and said they
- 40:21cultivate the message while trying to feign plausible deniability. The Western Gina GEOP has
- 40:25sold whatever integrity it has for power. It's a bit, it's a lot
- 40:29of powerful. I could not have said it better myself. Excellent text Texas.
- 40:34Dave Stewart said on your show he would send it for women's rights,
- 40:36when in fact he voted for strict abortion laws. Text says Dems need to
- 40:40point out GOP records ten years still Dad lasted education, job creation, job
- 40:45participation, lead nation to drug overdose deaths, lasted infrastructure. Thanks to the
- 40:50Biden bills, it's bringing jobs to the States. Another great text, all
- 40:54you're freaking of. The inability to do anything when it comes to dealing with
- 40:59the drug crisis has just rereaked havoc on this part of the country. We
- 41:02had a great presentation yesterday and the Joint Committee on Health, but we met
- 41:07over over the campus of Marshall University and it's very interesting. I don't know
- 41:12if you've ever watched the series. Uh is it a series or a movie?
- 41:15Dope site? It was a series series? Is a series on?
- 41:17I think it was Netflix? Ryan? Is that right? It was a
- 41:20streaming Think it's one I watched. I've not had a chance to watch it.
- 41:23I wanted you've watched it. Watched a few episodes. The main character,
- 41:28Michael Keaton plays to make character by Michael Keaton, but it's based on
- 41:31this doctor Stephen Lloyd from Tennessee. Well, doctor Lloyd uh was spoken front
- 41:37of He presented to the committee yesterday and just gave what he thought was like
- 41:40a very holistic plan of how to um possibly spend a lot of the settlement
- 41:46money, uh in real drug abatement. And I thought it was very interesting,
- 41:52and he had a lot of the stuff he talked about we're doing,
- 41:55we actually are doing well or have done better when it comes to some of
- 41:59our f it's in criminal justice reform. We have drug courts that are should
- 42:02field should expand. A lot of the stuff they talked about we are doing.
- 42:06But some of the stuff you mentioned, we've actually gone backwards. And
- 42:08when we pass a build this past session to limit the amount of treatment beds
- 42:13per county based on some artificial number, that's not really I mean, that
- 42:17goes against the Republican platform in my opinion, to put a limit on the
- 42:21amount of licenses you give. It's not exactly free market capitalism for one thing.
- 42:24But it's also ridiculous because you don't know how much help somebody's going to
- 42:28need, or how many people you're going to need to help at any given
- 42:30time. That was a huge mistake, I think going backwards in regards to
- 42:35harm reduction. He talked about that, and it actually, I mean,
- 42:38it's it's not a popular policy, but it's a smart policy that actually save
- 42:43that saves public dollars in the long run. He talked about that, He
- 42:46talked about a whole host of things. The problem is, I'm just afraid
- 42:51that a lot of what this man said, and he's probably one of the
- 42:53you know, most foremost experts on addiction in the country. I just hope
- 43:00it didn't fall on deaf ears. I know that, you know that the
- 43:02line of questioning from um, you know what, your frequent guest and friend,
- 43:08Eric Tarr, proved that they're probably not going to listen to this guy.
- 43:12He was He was really questioning what even the main premise behind this guy's
- 43:16talk. So, yeah, it was great that they brought him in,
- 43:21and I applaud the committee for bringing the speaker in. I just I just
- 43:23really hope and pray that we listened to him. It is nine fifty one
- 43:28text says Hey, Dave asked Mike, when six hundred pounds of sin,

- 43:49a doing very successful right now. Sierra Farrell, who was the singer for
- 43:52six hundred Pounds of Sin. I don't think we'll be able to bring her
- 43:54back for a reunion. She's doing question Yeah, Texas, my husband and
- 44:00she's doing. She's like, you know, her heels are on fire.
- 44:01She's is that the correct term, your heels? Yeah? I mean she's

- 44:21Text says I was at the Lincoln Day dinner, says a texture. Some
- 44:23people like Derek Evans, many others roll their eyes and set with their arms
- 44:28folded. Well, I just saw the video that Derek posted, and I
- 44:32heard a lot of I heard a lot of chatter over in the amen corner,
- 44:37a lot of preach it brother love a man, I personally would want
- 44:40to distance myself from somebody who is embracing white supremacist. I think that's horrible,
- 44:45and I think as a party, you would do it would do them
- 44:51a good to distance themselves from that. They should have used that as an
- 44:54opportunity to say, you know what, I don't care if you do pay
- 44:58the thousand dollars entry fee, We're not going to have you spew hatred at

- 48:37Travis Willard Edward Jones Member SIPC Texas. What does Mike think of Trump's sexual
- 48:40abuse and defamation conviction yesterday? I think that the court ruled in the correct
- 48:49manner. I mean, I'm not I wasn't on the jury. I didn't
- 48:52really pay that close attention to it. From what I understand, he didn't
- 48:54testify in front of the grand jury and really put up a defense, and
- 48:59when he was deposed, all his only defense was it was really insulting and
- 49:04just ridiculous. His defense was, She's not my type, as if there
- 49:07needs to be a type for sexual assault. It's just it's disgusting. But
- 49:10you know what, there's he said when he ran, you know, the
- 49:15first time, he could shoot somebody in the face on Fifth Avenue and his
- 49:17supporters would still support him, And I think he got that right. There's
- 49:21just that that small group of people, and it's not a huge group of
- 49:25people, but it's a when you're talking about just Republican primary voters, it's
- 49:30enough. Unfortunately, Well, and what you have I think within the Republican
- 49:32Party, this is just my opinion. I think you have a lot of
- 49:35people, maybe outside West Virginia that don't support Donald Trump when he gets involved
- 49:38in the elections in other states. You see how south it went for the
- 49:43Republican Party. But you have a number of good people in the Republican Party
- 49:46that are afraid to stand up and say, we don't want this guy as
- 49:50a loser, he's a grifter. I've and I'm somebod who's voted for him
- 49:53twice as I said that, But I finally it took me a while,
- 49:57but I finally saw the light. The guy is what you only had two
- 50:00chances to vote of January January sixth. Well that's good, Um, welcome
- 50:07a board. Well let's go on the secondary stage. Let don't say welcome
- 50:10aboard, let's say welcome off the Trump train, which I'm one of the
- 50:13person off the Trump train. I don't know that. I think I just
- 50:15saw it as a better alternative, but but not anymore. But you do
- 50:19have a lot of people within the Republican Party that don't like Trump, they
- 50:22don't want him to be the nominee, but they won't stand up and they
- 50:25won't stand up to leadership and say this is not what we want, this
- 50:30is not what we need. Well, I you know, I think that
- 50:32they really need to and I know there are a lot of good people in
- 50:36the Republican Party. There's a lot of a lot of good elected officials in
- 50:38the Republican Republican Party, a lot of my friends and colleagues that I work
- 50:44with, a lot of very good for the majority of good decent people,
- 50:47and they should uh uh, you know, grow some courage and speak up
- 50:52when it's wrong. I mean, this guy was just found guilty of sexual
- 50:54assault and it should shock nobody because we had tapes years ago where he was
- 51:00bragging about sexual assault. They voted for him anyway, you voted for him.
- 51:05I did, apparently I did, and I admitted it, and I
- 51:07admitted I was wrong. Tech says one thousand dollars to speaking of political dinner
- 51:10question. That's I was just thinking about that too. There's something wrong with
- 51:15that. I'm sorry, but you know, when we have fundraisers, we
- 51:19don't charge a democratic side. We never charged candidates to speak at a function.
- 51:24In fact, what we did we actually paid for entertainment. We paid
- 51:29musicians and and and and so it would actually be fun for people. There's
- 51:32something just wrong with charging candidates to speak in an event. I'm sorry,
- 51:37but it's uh I find it distastement. All right, we gotta go,
- 51:39piv any Lie, I brought to you party about husbands Pizza. This month,
