- 0:03Speaker 1: Tuesday. It's Tuesday on ft Broun Prizinski Kratz, I'm hosting
- 0:08Speaker 1: a show with two catchers. I don't remember if we
- 0:11Speaker 1: shouted this guy out the other day, Ridolfo Durant. Did
- 0:14Speaker 1: we shout him.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Out the other day the other day when he got
- 0:17Speaker 2: called up first time in ten years he was in
- 0:20Speaker 2: the minor leagues.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it was parts of eleven seasons in the minors,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and then he had his first hit, which was a
- 0:28Speaker 1: homer over the weekend. He's getting a little bit of
- 0:31Speaker 1: playing time right now, while there's some injury issues for
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Padres, including camp Fusano. But good for him, I mean, Kratz,
- 0:37Speaker 1: when you see a guy like that, do you do
- 0:40Speaker 1: one of these like a respect.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, he's in the brotherhood and he is the he
- 0:48Speaker 2: is the He's the majority, not the minority. The minority
- 0:53Speaker 2: are the superstars, like the guy in the other box here,
- 0:56Speaker 2: the guy that's golfing at Grove twenty three or whatever
- 1:01Speaker 2: the grove, like, those are the superstars. Those guys are
- 1:04Speaker 2: the minorities. Rodolfo duran For him to be able to
- 1:07Speaker 2: get to the big leagues, very few guys ever get there.
- 1:10Speaker 2: And the guys that do rarely get much time in
- 1:14Speaker 2: the big leagues. But he was younger than I was
- 1:17Speaker 2: when I got up there, so you know what, maybe
- 1:20Speaker 2: you can still get He can still get ten years
- 1:22Speaker 2: in the big leagues. Everybody's career is different, so good
- 1:25Speaker 2: for you.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And it was no cheapie. It was a homer off
- 1:30Speaker 1: Logan Gilbert, So that's a good one. Sign me up
- 1:33Speaker 1: for that. AJ. How did you treat backup catchers when
- 1:36Speaker 1: they came up if they had been marinating in the
- 1:38Speaker 1: minors for a while.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Everyone gets respect, Scott. Every guy gets respect, doesn't matter
- 1:44Speaker 3: what position you are. Yeah, but backup catchers obviously have
- 1:49Speaker 3: a special place for me because I was a catcher,
- 1:51Speaker 3: so I understand the work it took to get to
- 1:54Speaker 3: be a catcher in this league. And yeah, guys that
- 1:58Speaker 3: put in that much time, man, it was awesome. You
- 2:00Speaker 3: cheer for those guys. I remember we had a guy
- 2:02Speaker 3: with the white with the Braves. He got one game.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I forget his name, but he got one game. It
- 2:08Speaker 3: was the four Bragg game. We got to play an
- 2:10Speaker 3: extra guy at the four Bragg game we played against
- 2:13Speaker 3: the Irelands in twenty sixteen, and he came up and
- 2:16Speaker 3: he got one game. He got one day in the
- 2:17Speaker 3: big leagues. He was a Cuban guy and he was
- 2:19Speaker 3: could not have been happier and we were all happy
- 2:21Speaker 3: for him. And he never got to see another day
- 2:24Speaker 3: in the big leagues. And I think we got him
- 2:25Speaker 3: in a bat in that game, and uh, it was
- 2:28Speaker 3: pretty awesome for that guy. But the guys that the
- 2:31Speaker 3: guys that come up and don't get a lot of time,
- 2:32Speaker 3: or the guys you care the most about because you
- 2:34Speaker 3: know what they've been through and if they get a
- 2:36Speaker 3: week or a day, it's something they can always put
- 2:38Speaker 3: on their their resume that hey, I got to play
- 2:40Speaker 3: in the major leagues for one second.
- 2:43Speaker 2: There's there's dudes. There's dudes get caught up like that.
- 2:46Speaker 2: They're like, ah, here's no chance. Jacob Stallings was kind
- 2:50Speaker 2: of that way filled in you know about Jacob Stallings. Now, like,
- 2:54Speaker 2: once you get a chance. I'm not saying that everybody
- 2:58Speaker 2: misses on these guys or whatever it is, but once
- 3:00Speaker 2: you get a chance and you're like, Okay, I'm willing
- 3:04Speaker 2: to do what it takes. I get optioned down. Because
- 3:07Speaker 2: now Rodolfo's eight twenty nine years old, you got He's
- 3:10Speaker 2: still got three options. Just like Dylan Cruz who just
- 3:13Speaker 2: got called back up. He could get optioned up and
- 3:16Speaker 2: down three more years in a row. He's not there
- 3:19Speaker 2: to make a billion dollars like some superstars. But if
- 3:22Speaker 2: you can get a chance, you learn, you get better,
- 3:26Speaker 2: then you have to fight for another chance. Those are
- 3:29Speaker 2: those stories. I really everybody really likes hearing those stories.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And like when he gets called up, you're like, oh,
- 3:35Speaker 2: you know he's filling in, he's the backup, get some time,
- 3:38Speaker 2: blah blah blah. You never know. You never know what
- 3:41Speaker 2: happens ten years down the road, he might have had
- 3:43Speaker 2: a nice career.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah. One evaluation note too before we dive into some news.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And I played basketball growing up, and when you'd go
- 3:52Speaker 1: to a tournament and there's a kid who's like d
- 3:54Speaker 1: one talent or a few that you'd come across that
- 3:58Speaker 1: made it to the NBA, Like you all know, it's
- 4:00Speaker 1: a little tougher in baseball. I just think about Stallings
- 4:03Speaker 1: as you mentioned him, and I was calling games in
- 4:05Speaker 1: the Cape Cod Baseball League. Stallings was a catcher for UNC,
- 4:08Speaker 1: had like no bat and on that roster, the summer
- 4:12Speaker 1: league roster, he was probably like bottom three in terms
- 4:14Speaker 1: of when you'd look at him and it wasn't just
- 4:16Speaker 1: the results but everything right, Like of guys you would
- 4:19Speaker 1: think make it, you made it and only a few
- 4:22Speaker 1: others did. So it's just a cool story to see
- 4:25Speaker 1: guys rise and develop and sometimes take a lot of
- 4:28Speaker 1: time deep into their twenties to actually turn into something
- 4:32Speaker 1: that's capable of being a big leaguer.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It happens on all levels. AJ's a fringe Hall of Famer.
- 4:38Speaker 2: We were you second round? AJ? Or were you late
- 4:40Speaker 2: first round, third third round, third round? Never in the
- 4:44Speaker 2: top one hundred prospect? And JJ is coming on later today.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But they don't hit it all the time, and unfortunately
- 4:51Speaker 2: that kind of keeps some guys like, oh, I'm going
- 4:53Speaker 2: to hang around. I'm going to hang around. Doesn't happen,
- 4:56Speaker 2: doesn't happen for everybody. But the aim allows something different
- 5:01Speaker 2: than all the other sports allow you. In football, you
- 5:04Speaker 2: ain't big enough, you ain't playing basketball. Sorry, you can't
- 5:08Speaker 2: handle the ball and you're you know, you're six point four.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You ain't making the NBA. Sorry, like it's not happening.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Baseball allows that stuff.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why there's cool stories here, tons of them,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and the debut stories are awesome too when the family
- 5:22Speaker 1: show up. Okay, I just wanted to spend a little
- 5:23Speaker 1: time on that. Now let's get some news charge about. Oh,
- 5:29Speaker 1: this is a tough one. The obleaque strikes again. We
- 5:32Speaker 1: talked about it, and we saw AJ's o'bleaque last week
- 5:36Speaker 1: from his injury when he had it in the Majors
- 5:39Speaker 1: and it was bad looking. So here's one for Drake Baldwin.
- 5:43Speaker 1: AJ the Brave star catcher, Rookie of the Year last year,
- 5:47Speaker 1: just putting together a brilliant season, one of the best
- 5:51Speaker 1: lefty on lefty power guys too as a left handed hitter,
- 5:54Speaker 1: just doing it all for a team that's got the
- 5:56Speaker 1: best record in baseball. Now he goes down with a
- 5:58Speaker 1: strained right obliqu muscle. Sean Murphy was back for a
- 6:01Speaker 1: minute and he's out. Remember they had to cut Jonah him.
- 6:05Speaker 1: They actually just released Aaron Bummer. Two's in the final
- 6:08Speaker 1: year of a three year, nine and a half million
- 6:10Speaker 1: dollar deal. But to Baldwin, where are we at on
- 6:13Speaker 1: how the Braves will navigate this with the Phillies chasing them?
- 6:19Speaker 3: This sucks for Drake Baldwin, Rookie of the Year. They lost
- 6:23Speaker 3: Sean Murphy already. How they going to navigate it? They're
- 6:26Speaker 3: luckily they have a little bit of a gap for
- 6:28Speaker 3: the playoffs. I know everyone wants them to win the division,
- 6:30Speaker 3: but they have a little bit of a gap. This
- 6:33Speaker 3: isn't as bad, I don't think as losing a Chris
- 6:37Speaker 3: Sale and an Elder or something like that. But this
- 6:40Speaker 3: is gonna sting because he was bat in lead off
- 6:42Speaker 3: for him a lot of games too, and he was raking.
- 6:44Speaker 3: He's probably gonna deserve to go to the All Star Game,
- 6:49Speaker 3: Drake Baldwin as he should. Yes, Chadwick Trump and Sandy
- 6:53Speaker 3: Leon a solid, but this is not the same as
- 6:55Speaker 3: Drake Baldwin as Sean Murphy. I'm sorry, and this is
- 6:58Speaker 3: this is gonna sting a little bit these Braves. But
- 7:00Speaker 3: listen to me. One thing we've learned about the Braves
- 7:03Speaker 3: so far, forty plus games into this season. They have
- 7:06Speaker 3: the depth and they have the ability to figure out
- 7:08Speaker 3: how to just keep on winning. Except when they played
- 7:10Speaker 3: the Marlins and they lose twelve to one.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, well, everybody loses some games, but to me, losing
- 7:16Speaker 2: Drake Baldwin, I'm not sure who we had on I
- 7:18Speaker 2: think it was Hayesu's cano. I asked him what would
- 7:22Speaker 2: be the biggest blow, and I disagree with what AJ said.
- 7:25Speaker 2: AJ said, yeah, Sale or Elder going down would be huge,
- 7:29Speaker 2: But they've the Braves have a stockpile of pitching. Somehow
- 7:33Speaker 2: they come up with somebody from somewhere, and I get it.
- 7:37Speaker 2: They weren't able to do it last year when they
- 7:39Speaker 2: had all five of their rotation pieces out. But hay
- 7:43Speaker 2: Sus said last week he writes for The Athletic and
- 7:46Speaker 2: he covers the Braves. He was like, I think if
- 7:49Speaker 2: they would lose Drake Baldwin, that would be a that
- 7:52Speaker 2: would be the biggest blow because I feel like and
- 7:55Speaker 2: felt like the Braves were in command of this division
- 7:59Speaker 2: just because at the time ten games back is tough
- 8:03Speaker 2: to overcome. It's still a lot to overcome for the Phillies,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but losing your MVP candidate from the team, and I
- 8:11Speaker 2: think Olson's probably there too. I think Matt Olson, but
- 8:14Speaker 2: losing it behind the dish and people will say, well,
- 8:16Speaker 2: you know so and So's numbers are better than this guy.
- 8:19Speaker 2: He was catching, he was catching, and when he wasn't catching,
- 8:22Speaker 2: he was locking down that DH position, which they really
- 8:26Speaker 2: left open for the combination of Murphy and Drake Baldwin.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And now they're both out, plus they're both out to
- 8:33Speaker 2: not catch behind the dish. It's gonna be a huge blow.
- 8:36Speaker 2: They go to the veterans, Chadwick, Trump's been there forever,
- 8:39Speaker 2: Sandy Leone's been everywhere forever, and I think it's something
- 8:43Speaker 2: that those guys are gonna have to step up. But
- 8:45Speaker 2: because they're gonna step up and have not nearly the
- 8:48Speaker 2: offensive production, it's gonna be this is This is a
- 8:52Speaker 2: huge blow, as huge a blow as I think this
- 8:55Speaker 2: team could have taken at this time of the year.
- 8:59Speaker 2: We love our who splays out in the open sun
- 9:02Speaker 2: on our floor like she's an underwear model, and that's
- 9:05Speaker 2: why we love her so much. To scratch her belly.
- 9:09Speaker 1: She's a cutie. That Bella and a quick message from

- 9:58Speaker 1: of insurance. And Kun is coming back, so that'll help
- 10:02Speaker 1: for hopefully an offensive. He's different position. I know, I understand.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I know it's not the same. I'm just bringing it up.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Hey, we're going to talk about offense. We're gonna talk
- 10:14Speaker 2: about offense, and Acunya can take over. I don't know
- 10:16Speaker 2: what was Drake Baldwin's one sixty three ops plus. We
- 10:20Speaker 2: all think cocun is going to hit better than he
- 10:22Speaker 2: did before, but one sixty three ops plus behind the
- 10:26Speaker 2: plate is just one other position in the lineup. What
- 10:29Speaker 2: he does behind the dish, What he does every single day.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Getting those pitchers ready is something that is really really
- 10:37Speaker 2: hard to duplicate. It's really hard to not have that
- 10:41Speaker 2: one steady piece behind there, especially since now in these games,
- 10:46Speaker 2: Chadwick Trump might start now, they're going to probably pinch
- 10:49Speaker 2: hit for him in the seventh if they're If they're
- 10:50Speaker 2: behind now in the eighth and ninth, you have a
- 10:52Speaker 2: different catcher coming in. It's a It's something that I
- 10:56Speaker 2: think some teams don't put a lot of value on.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I think the teams that are really good do put
- 11:01Speaker 2: a lot of value on it. The same consistent look
- 11:04Speaker 2: behind the dish for each of these pitchers to get
- 11:07Speaker 2: them through the game. Because half of this Braves team
- 11:11Speaker 2: has been offense, the other half has been pitching because
- 11:16Speaker 2: and they're number one in both. Something's gonna slide when
- 11:19Speaker 2: you lose something in your offense, and something's going to
- 11:21Speaker 2: slide when you lose something on the defensive side of
- 11:23Speaker 2: the ball.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And to me, aj if this wasn't the automatic MVP
- 11:30Speaker 1: National League for sho Heyotani, Drake Baldwin is in the conversation,
- 11:34Speaker 1: you know, I like to just start with fangraft spoort
- 11:37Speaker 1: just to pop up some guys that I know will
- 11:39Speaker 1: get love from the voters that go heavy on that front.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Drake Baldwin was near the top here in the National League,
- 11:45Speaker 1: it's Otani, and then for position players it's Elie de
- 11:49Speaker 1: la Cruz and number three is Drake Baldwin, tied with
- 11:52Speaker 1: the number of others at two point two f four,
- 11:55Speaker 1: So he deserves to be in the competition up to
- 11:58Speaker 1: this point. Of course, he's going to miss time. He's
- 12:00Speaker 1: probably gonna get wiped out of that conversation, but it
- 12:02Speaker 1: was that kind of impact and it's funny we joked
- 12:05Speaker 1: that if cal Riley can't win, can any catcher win?
- 12:08Speaker 1: I mean, it's always dependent on different the competition looks like, yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Different league, he's not. I mean, Otani's numbers are down.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I know he's pitching great, but his numbers are down
- 12:20Speaker 3: a little bit offensively. So Aaron Judge isn't having as
- 12:23Speaker 3: great of a year as he had last year. If
- 12:25Speaker 3: cal Rily did what he did this year and Aaron
- 12:27Speaker 3: Judge's numbers play out the way they have this year,
- 12:30Speaker 3: then he probably would win. But Aaron Judge is a special,
- 12:32Speaker 3: special player.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yeah he's not, but he's not a lock He's not
- 12:37Speaker 2: a lock like show, but no, last year's was ridiculous.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It was ridiculous. But the point is that Drake Baldwin
- 12:46Speaker 1: has been morphing from the Rookie of the Year last
- 12:49Speaker 1: year into an MVP candidate this year. He's been that
- 12:52Speaker 1: good for Atlanta. And it plays to your point too, Kratz.
- 12:56Speaker 1: So the offense is banging for the Braves, and so
- 12:59Speaker 1: is the pitching run prevention, and it was looked at
- 13:02Speaker 1: as a potential liability for the team. We've talked a
- 13:04Speaker 1: lot about how someone like Jeremy Heppner joined the fold
- 13:07Speaker 1: and has made a difference for the team. But what
- 13:09Speaker 1: about the catcher who's buying the plate for most of
- 13:11Speaker 1: the outings? There got to get some credit.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Got it? Both of them got to get credit. There's
- 13:18Speaker 2: so much that goes into pitching that we could have
- 13:23Speaker 2: a whole section. We're gonna have a whole show about this.
- 13:26Speaker 2: It's just yeah, it's part of it.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Let's mix in some news. While the TV crowd is
- 13:32Speaker 1: in their commercial break, the Yankees are discussing having Garrett
- 13:34Speaker 1: Cole returned to the rotation instead of going for one
- 13:37Speaker 1: more minor league start. This hasn't been set yet. This
- 13:40Speaker 1: is a tweet from Brian Hoke and a quote from
- 13:42Speaker 1: Aaron Boone. We're talking through everything. It's been a minute.
- 13:46Speaker 1: He's a veteran to me aj it's hey, Garrett, you
- 13:49Speaker 1: good for the bigs now? And if it's a yes,
- 13:51Speaker 1: then great, let's go.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 3: He's been around long enough now that Garret Cole knows
- 13:55Speaker 3: his body and knows if he's ready or not. And
- 14:00Speaker 3: we'll see. We'll see what they do. Plus they lost Freed,
- 14:03Speaker 3: uh Verdon hasn't been great. We'll see. But I meant
- 14:07Speaker 3: you get that rotation back, You get Chlitler, you have Freed,
- 14:10Speaker 3: you have ever done, You have the rest of these guys,
- 14:13Speaker 3: Will Warren, who's been really good for him. This is
- 14:15Speaker 3: a formidable rotation.
- 14:17Speaker 1: It is. I don't think anybody's worried. That's why it's
- 14:20Speaker 1: not much of a story. But what they just had,
- 14:21Speaker 1: like a two and seven road trip something like that. Kratz,
- 14:24Speaker 1: there's no concern there. The pitchings there, there's plenty of offense.
- 14:27Speaker 1: In my mind, looks like a good regular season team.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Do you think there's any urgency within the front office
- 14:32Speaker 1: because of how damn good the Rays have been? The
- 14:35Speaker 1: freaking clocked the Orioles again last night, just because you
- 14:39Speaker 1: want to win the division, you want to get a buye.
- 14:40Speaker 1: You don't think there's anything there.
- 14:42Speaker 2: As much as I know the front office with the
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yankees just loves the rais. What are they doing? What
- 14:50Speaker 2: do they have there? Can we get a roof? Can
- 14:52Speaker 2: we get all this tech and all this stuff? Like
- 14:54Speaker 2: they look at the Rays and they're like, wow, amazing. No,
- 14:57Speaker 2: I don't think they're worried about him in that sense
- 14:59Speaker 2: in the standing, because I think they I think they've
- 15:02Speaker 2: beat their team. I think Garret Cole was always going
- 15:04Speaker 2: to come back sooner. He's stubborn, he's a veteran. He
- 15:07Speaker 2: knows what he needs to do, and he doesn't want
- 15:09Speaker 2: to pitch in minor league games. Clearly as he's hitting
- 15:11Speaker 2: minor leaguers and.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Not caring that.
- 15:13Speaker 2: As catcher gets hitting the nuts all that stuff.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Tarps off is now a thing taking over major League baseball.
- 15:24Speaker 1: We have footage from last night in Saint Petersburg, Florida,
- 15:29Speaker 1: at the trap. Hey, J this is our people, the Florida.
- 15:34Speaker 3: These are our people. I love it.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I love it.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I love this has to become a thing. This is
- 15:40Speaker 3: so cool. Listen, anything to get people engaged with baseball. Okay,
- 15:44Speaker 3: I don't know if they need to take their shirt
- 15:45Speaker 3: off because of the drop they're indoors, but I freaking
- 15:48Speaker 3: love this. And the Raids are playing really well, so
- 15:50Speaker 3: maybe it'll help them win another game. But yeah, I
- 15:54Speaker 3: love this. I think it's super cool. I think that
- 15:56Speaker 3: we're getting young people involved. This isn't the sixty year
- 15:59Speaker 3: old male going over there taking their shirt off. This
- 16:01Speaker 3: is the younger people going over there taking their shirt
- 16:03Speaker 3: off and doing this, And this is what we want.
- 16:05Speaker 3: We want young people engaged in baseball. And hey, if
- 16:07Speaker 3: they got to take their shirt off, Scott, you should
- 16:09Speaker 3: join them.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, if that's what gets them excited. I mean,
- 16:12Speaker 1: I would only do it for some type of you know, incentive,
- 16:16Speaker 1: like we reach a million subscribers or something like that.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I need to be incentivized, because I'm not a kid anymore. Dude,
- 16:21Speaker 1: I probably would.
- 16:24Speaker 2: We would reach a million if you took your shirt off.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I've seen yeah, I've seen the sticks that people you know,
- 16:30Speaker 2: pay money for what you got right there. Okay, they
- 16:34Speaker 2: want to see.
- 16:35Speaker 1: That, thank you, thank you. Hey, people want to see
- 16:38Speaker 1: the rays more. This year they were May last year
- 16:42Speaker 1: they just jumped Trevor Rodgers yesterday. I mean there were
- 16:45Speaker 1: two storylines there. It's like, are the Orioles okay with
- 16:49Speaker 1: this version of Trevor Rodgers? And no, are the Raids
- 16:52Speaker 1: really this damn good sixteen six they won yesterday?
- 16:55Speaker 2: They're not okay if he's not pitching? Well, is it?
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yep? That's the take one for the Padres to start
- 17:13Speaker 1: the series against the Dodgers. Just a little one nothing
- 17:16Speaker 1: first inning homer for Miguel and dujar Off, a two
- 17:19Speaker 1: two splitter from Yamamoto and then him against Michael King
- 17:23Speaker 1: was fun to watch for a while. AJ and then
- 17:25Speaker 1: the ninth inning was fun too, with Mason Miller being like, ah,
- 17:28Speaker 1: I'm just messing with you. I got my command back
- 17:31Speaker 1: and finishing out a one nothing win for the Padres.
- 17:34Speaker 1: But isn't this exactly what people talk about with the
- 17:37Speaker 1: run differential, like Ken mentioned in his segment plus ninety
- 17:41Speaker 1: three versus plus eight, And you know why, it doesn't
- 17:43Speaker 1: matter that much because the Padres bullpen's nasty and they
- 17:46Speaker 1: don't need to win by ten runs.
- 17:49Speaker 3: No, but it's hard to win every game one run game, crowd, you.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Know, this.
- 17:52Speaker 3: It's hard. I mean, I know their bullpen's amazing, but
- 17:54Speaker 3: it is hard to do this. That's why I run differential.
- 17:56Speaker 3: It does matter because usually scoring more. But this game
- 17:59Speaker 3: was awesome to watch. I mean it was on. I
- 18:01Speaker 3: was watching it last night late on the East Coast.
- 18:03Speaker 3: I'm trying. I got the toothpick in my eye and
- 18:05Speaker 3: trying to keep my eyes open to watch his game.
- 18:07Speaker 3: And Duhar hits a home run. The Dodgers have a
- 18:10Speaker 3: couple of chances in this game, but other than that,
- 18:11Speaker 3: Michael King Man, Wow, nasty. Then the bullpen coming in. Wow,
- 18:16Speaker 3: Mason Miller does what he does. This is just good baseball.
- 18:19Speaker 3: This is two teams. San Diego was rocking last night.
- 18:22Speaker 3: They had to beat La Chance going on. This is
- 18:25Speaker 3: just good old baseball.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Man.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I love people say, oh we went offense. We went offense.
- 18:29Speaker 3: At the end of the day, who doesn't love a
- 18:31Speaker 3: good old fashion pitchers doing. We got one from Yamamoto
- 18:34Speaker 3: and Michael King two guys on their teams that you
- 18:36Speaker 3: can say, are there ones, and they are both really good.
- 18:39Speaker 3: They both shine. Last night Yamamoto hung the one split
- 18:42Speaker 3: to and new Hart. And by the way, if you
- 18:43Speaker 3: didn't see that at bat. I was a good at
- 18:44Speaker 3: bat by Andhr he actually hit a ball foul. I
- 18:47Speaker 3: think the pitch to one or two pitches before a
- 18:50Speaker 3: curveball that was a home run foul. And then he
- 18:52Speaker 3: stayed in there. He took some good pitches from Yamamoto
- 18:55Speaker 3: and then made got the one mistake and hit it
- 18:57Speaker 3: for a home run. And it was This was a
- 18:59Speaker 3: good game. This was a fun game to watch if
- 19:01Speaker 3: you like baseball.

- 20:05Speaker 2: It's tough to put together a lot of wins consistently
- 20:09Speaker 2: for one hundred and sixty two games if you don't
- 20:12Speaker 2: hit for enough power, if you're looking for two or
- 20:16Speaker 2: three hits to score a run. And that's where the
- 20:20Speaker 2: it's not just homers, it's you know, being able to
- 20:23Speaker 2: drive the ball to the gap. And right now the
- 20:24Speaker 2: Padres don't have a lot of power, and what will
- 20:27Speaker 2: happen and why Aj said it's hard to constantly win
- 20:32Speaker 2: one run games, and you hear it. The teams that
- 20:36Speaker 2: make the playoffs and make a deep run, Oh, they're
- 20:39Speaker 2: twenty four and seven and one run games. Absolutely that
- 20:43Speaker 2: can be the difference in your season. It is one
- 20:45Speaker 2: run games. The issue is if you're always playing so
- 20:48Speaker 2: many one run games, then your bullpen is gonna get cashed.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Even even a Padres bullpen that is five deep with
- 20:58Speaker 2: so many guys that that are out there, like it
- 21:02Speaker 2: feels like they just find somebody new. They got rid
- 21:04Speaker 2: of Robert Suarez, they bring someone else in. You have Estrata,
- 21:07Speaker 2: you have Morejne, you have Miller, you have Adam who's
- 21:10Speaker 2: coming back from a catastrophic injury last year. To be
- 21:14Speaker 2: able to esentially look exactly the same. It's just tough.
- 21:19Speaker 2: It's tough because they have five deep. That's great, but
- 21:23Speaker 2: I also don't think besides Michael King last night, I
- 21:25Speaker 2: don't think their starters go long enough to say, okay, guys,
- 21:30Speaker 2: you guys get a break, like they need that guy
- 21:33Speaker 2: to step up. And if Michael King becomes that guy
- 21:35Speaker 2: all season, that's huge. But you also don't want to
- 21:38Speaker 2: wear your starters out because you're gonna need somebody for
- 21:42Speaker 2: the end of the seat, for the playoffs to be
- 21:44Speaker 2: able to make those starts for you.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so that is going to come back at some point.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I know he's going to miss it good chunk of
- 21:50Speaker 1: time here, but he was really good for them.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Last year and Michael King has to be that guy.
- 21:55Speaker 2: And Michael King showed last night like he's playing with
- 21:58Speaker 2: him in Triple A before he made the big leagues
- 22:01Speaker 2: and then in the big leagues with the Yankees, like
- 22:03Speaker 2: he gets it. He's a pitcher who learns. He learns
- 22:07Speaker 2: from his last stouting. He learns from watching different guys throw.
- 22:12Speaker 2: And he doesn't watch just guys that throw like him.
- 22:15Speaker 2: He watches guys that, you know, attack guy. Okay, look,
- 22:18Speaker 2: this team doesn't hit the slider. Well, I don't like
- 22:21Speaker 2: my slider tonight, I'm fine with it. I'll run that sinker.
- 22:23Speaker 2: He has such good variation on his his sinker runs
- 22:26Speaker 2: in and his slider runs away. And he's really perfected
- 22:30Speaker 2: that kind of turn to keep to keep teams from
- 22:34Speaker 2: being able to see the ball out of his hand.
- 22:35Speaker 2: So I mean, right now, that contract that they gave
- 22:38Speaker 2: him three years seventy five is paying off. But the
- 22:42Speaker 2: thing with Michael King, if he is their one true
- 22:45Speaker 2: guy in that rotation, if Paveta comes back and is okay, like,
- 22:50Speaker 2: can they keep him healthy? They don't have the luxury
- 22:52Speaker 2: that the Dodgers have of saying, don't worry about it,
- 22:55Speaker 2: go get healthy, we'll see you in October. Padres can't
- 22:59Speaker 2: do that, and that's that's why I think the Padres
- 23:00Speaker 2: will ultimately fall a little short of Dodgers. By the
- 23:03Speaker 2: end of the season in the regular.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Season, AJ, do you feel the same way. I know
- 23:08Speaker 1: you've said this where you're like, eh, Dodgers are going
- 23:11Speaker 1: to take the division. But last year, I mean they
- 23:13Speaker 1: didn't take a byspot, right, they didn't have a top
- 23:15Speaker 1: two spot. They did win the division. It did get
- 23:17Speaker 1: somewhat close. I think the Padres missed out by a
- 23:19Speaker 1: few games. The Padres are a half game better than them.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I know it's only a quarter into the season. Do
- 23:24Speaker 1: you see any scenario here where the Padres can withstand
- 23:29Speaker 1: the Dodgers here during an entire division race and take
- 23:32Speaker 1: them over and take this down based on how the
- 23:34Speaker 1: bullpen results have been. And also, I mean it has
- 23:36Speaker 1: just as much to do with the Dodgers, right they're
- 23:39Speaker 1: down Snow he's getting the surgery, the nanoscope glass now
- 23:42Speaker 1: has got the back flare up. You know, Rokie had
- 23:45Speaker 1: a good start last time, but he's been training wheels difficult.
- 23:48Speaker 1: So your thoughts on if this series helps us to
- 23:51Speaker 1: determine if we think the Padres can keep up with
- 23:54Speaker 1: the Dodgers.
- 23:55Speaker 3: No, it doesn't. I think it's great for like I said,
- 23:58Speaker 3: for baseball, it's great for the city and Diego. If
- 24:00Speaker 3: the Padres is going to win this series and get
- 24:03Speaker 3: a lead on the Dodgers, but at the end of
- 24:04Speaker 3: the day, the Dodgers still are the best team one
- 24:07Speaker 3: through twenty six, one through forty, let's say one through fifty.
- 24:10Speaker 3: How many other players they have to use this year,
- 24:12Speaker 3: and their depth usually wins out and that's why they're
- 24:14Speaker 3: back to back World Series champions do I think in
- 24:17Speaker 3: a series they can lose this, but over the long haul,
- 24:20Speaker 3: I think it's going to be tougher a team like
- 24:22Speaker 3: the Padres because if they have any kind of injury problems,
- 24:25Speaker 3: especially in their starting rotation like Kratzai, then it'll wear
- 24:28Speaker 3: on them. But I love this again. I love this
- 24:31Speaker 3: because you know what this does, and this is all
- 24:33Speaker 3: the people at MLB and all the people at Rob
- 24:35Speaker 3: Manford's office are going to hate this. But it just
- 24:38Speaker 3: shows you that money doesn't guarantee you a championship. It
- 24:41Speaker 3: doesn't guarantee you winning the division. Look at the Mets, right,
- 24:45Speaker 3: you have to spend wisely, you have to spend correctly,
- 24:48Speaker 3: and yes, you can cover some warts if you have depth,
- 24:50Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, there are teams
- 24:52Speaker 3: out there like the Padres that try every year, right
- 24:55Speaker 3: that are doing it. The Braves, Yes, I know they
- 24:56Speaker 3: have a big payroll, not as high as the Phillies.
- 24:58Speaker 3: They're ahead of them, so it doesn't necessarily mean that
- 25:02Speaker 3: you can spend and spend and spend and automatically win.
- 25:06Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, I mean, I
- 25:08Speaker 3: still think the Dodgers are the best team in Major
- 25:10Speaker 3: League Baseball when healthy, and right now they're not healthy.
- 25:14Speaker 1: What about three players that are a huge part of
- 25:16Speaker 1: the team, all in the six hundred or less ops
- 25:20Speaker 1: range age even if one or two of them doesn't recover.
- 25:22Speaker 1: There's no way that Jackson marril Manny Machado and for
- 25:25Speaker 1: an edit, Tatis Junior they're all going to have six
- 25:27Speaker 1: hundred ops is at the end of the year.
- 25:29Speaker 3: But also is the bottom of their lineup going to
- 25:31Speaker 3: keep going and doing what they're doing? Have you seen
- 25:33Speaker 3: the bottom of their lineup? I mean, listen, I love
- 25:35Speaker 3: Gavin Sheets, He's one of my favorite dudes ever, former
- 25:38Speaker 3: Whitesaw great, but he's is he going to continue to
- 25:42Speaker 3: do what he's doing in the bottom of their order
- 25:43Speaker 3: that like five through nine, Ty France and some of
- 25:46Speaker 3: these other guys are they going to continue to do
- 25:48Speaker 3: what they're doing. It's ebbs and flows. Yes, you count
- 25:51Speaker 3: on the superstars to stay the same and carry a team,
- 25:54Speaker 3: but the bottom of the lineup is like this, and
- 25:57Speaker 3: right now, the bottom of the Padres lineup is one
- 25:59Speaker 3: of the best to baseball.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and and duheart yesterday in the two spot. Man,
- 26:06Speaker 1: he's got a good position as bat. He can hit,
- 26:09Speaker 1: you know, dhing yesterday like that, dude, he's found it.
- 26:12Speaker 1: It took some time, right, that's your classic case of
- 26:14Speaker 1: a guy who's supposed to be this big deal prospect
- 26:17Speaker 1: and it took a minute. But the Padres made a
- 26:20Speaker 1: nice move there, and the league liked him. They wanted him.
- 26:22Speaker 1: What the shoulder crats is that what you're saying that
- 26:24Speaker 1: messed him up a.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Little while, way bigger than people think he used to
- 26:27Speaker 2: have that. It wasn't it wasn't crime, dog, But you
- 26:30Speaker 2: look at what he did his rookie year when he
- 26:33Speaker 2: first came up. His finish on his swing was really
- 26:37Speaker 2: up over top. And that shoulder, that shoulder injury, it
- 26:42Speaker 2: sapped a lot. I get it. He's out on the field,
- 26:45Speaker 2: just like Maddy McLain last year was out on the field,
- 26:48Speaker 2: that shoulder injury is a big deal, just like every
- 26:50Speaker 2: Padres fan told me Fernando Tatista's shoulder injury big deal.
- 26:55Speaker 2: But I saw it. I saw it with Mickey because
- 26:58Speaker 2: I saw him when he first got called up. I
- 27:00Speaker 2: saw him come up through the minor leagues and seeing
- 27:03Speaker 2: him in the big leagues and the way he attacked
- 27:05Speaker 2: the ball, even last night's homer, Like if you go
- 27:07Speaker 2: back and watch his early career swings, he's had to
- 27:11Speaker 2: make adjustments and he's and he's re established himself last
- 27:14Speaker 2: year with the A's and now this year he's established
- 27:16Speaker 2: himself in a lineup where it's like, well, you're not athletic,
- 27:19Speaker 2: you're not getting on the field, but we're not going
- 27:22Speaker 2: to pay for a d H. So there's a spot
- 27:24Speaker 2: there and he's got to he's got to continue to bang.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, more California ball talk, since this show has West
- 27:32Speaker 1: Coast bias. Clearly, let's go to the Angels. How fun
- 27:35Speaker 1: was that? I mean, Ahja, you've been part of perfect game,
- 27:40Speaker 1: no hitter action. So this was a no no for
- 27:44Speaker 1: JT Gin heading into the freaking ninth and it gets
- 27:47Speaker 1: erased and the game gets erased for a dub for
- 27:50Speaker 1: them in two batters. The loss one hundred complete game loss.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Jtgain pitched his tail off, and this is one of
- 28:03Speaker 3: the things, man, when you're when you're doing a no hitter,
- 28:05Speaker 3: you're in the middle of a no hitter, don't mess
- 28:06Speaker 3: it up. But the problem was they hadn't scored any runs.
- 28:09Speaker 3: The A's hadn't scored any runs. So zero zero going
- 28:11Speaker 3: to the ninth. Yes, they scored the one in the night,
- 28:13Speaker 3: but then they give up a two spot. Oh man,
- 28:15Speaker 3: if you're see, if you're Mark Cott saying you're the
- 28:17Speaker 3: manager of the age, you're like, please score four or
- 28:19Speaker 3: five guys, take me out of this, because what do
- 28:21Speaker 3: you do as the manager? You can't take him out.
- 28:24Speaker 3: He hadn't give up a hit. He gives up one hit,
- 28:25Speaker 3: He's still probably your best option. He's been dealing, and
- 28:28Speaker 3: then of course Netto hits a home run. By the
- 28:31Speaker 3: way we talked about yesterday, I believe that he's the
- 28:33Speaker 3: one guy on this team that looks like he's really
- 28:35Speaker 3: engaged and in the middle of it. So besides Strout obviously,
- 28:39Speaker 3: but man, you feel for Jtgin because he was dealing.
- 28:42Speaker 3: I look at my I kept looking at my phone. Jggain,
- 28:45Speaker 3: no hitter, through six, j again, no hit or through
- 28:46Speaker 3: seven J again three outs away and then oh they
- 28:50Speaker 3: lose on a walkoff. Homer, Man, that that one's stinging.
- 28:54Speaker 3: That's one of those ones you never forget.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Man, it just happened so fast. It happened so fast,
- 29:01Speaker 2: and I mean I would encourage anybody to go back
- 29:03Speaker 2: and look. If you don't know who JT. Ginn is
- 29:06Speaker 2: and you get to watch his stuff from last night,
- 29:09Speaker 2: it's really really just sometimes non competitive lineup in the Angels.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I don't care who it was that ball was that
- 29:19Speaker 2: doll was spinning yesterday. It was he was. He was nasty, clearly.
- 29:23Speaker 2: And then it just happened so fast. Fraser hit the
- 29:26Speaker 2: line drive and you're like, oh that's tough. Wack Homer,
- 29:29Speaker 2: what wait a minute. You didn't even have a chance
- 29:32Speaker 2: to warm anybody up. And I don't think you could
- 29:34Speaker 2: have warmed anybody up in that situation.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Now you needed run support. And also, I mean the
- 29:40Speaker 1: tarps off mania is just everywhere. It was also in Anaheim.
- 29:45Speaker 1: We actually have a sound from it because you know,
- 29:47Speaker 1: I think Arnie Marina was like, oh this is cool,
- 29:49Speaker 1: we get this and then he was like, wait a sack. Good.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I heard what you guys are saying, Well, I would
- 30:12Speaker 1: sell the team. That was pretty loud from the crowd.
- 30:17Speaker 1: College kids. They were bringing it. Speaking for the people.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Going to college trying to do stuff.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Tarps off is everywhere. By the ways, off is everywhere.
- 30:29Speaker 2: You're not all getting into the clubhouse people, You're not
- 30:31Speaker 2: all getting into the clubhouse. Okay, because that's not that
- 30:37Speaker 2: group at all. They were a little bit.
- 30:40Speaker 1: They were like, let's do something for them. And then
- 30:42Speaker 1: they were like, wait what did what did they say? Okay,
- 30:44Speaker 1: never mind.
- 30:46Speaker 2: They're they're saying, smell the beef. That's what they're saying. Smell.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Yeah. It was good, good Burger night out there in Anaheim,
- 30:53Speaker 1: and a good win for a team that is perhaps
- 30:55Speaker 1: the worst in baseball. It has just been a miserable
- 30:58Speaker 1: season for them. But a two to one win for
- 31:01Speaker 1: the Angels to turn the game around in five seconds. Hey,
- 31:05Speaker 1: we're following this one pretty closely because there was just
- 31:08Speaker 1: so much weight put on his shoulders to start the season.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Roman Anthony with a setback, soreness, and his wrist during
- 31:13Speaker 1: his first time swinging a bat. We'll look at the
- 31:16Speaker 1: team side. I do want to mention the individual side too.
- 31:19Speaker 1: AJ Sometimes when people call a player out for taking
- 31:22Speaker 1: a contract, they should look at how things go sometimes
- 31:27Speaker 1: for players earlier in their career. Now, might he give
- 31:30Speaker 1: the team so much surplus value ultimately? Sure, but also
- 31:33Speaker 1: you could run into risks shoulder like we were just
- 31:37Speaker 1: talking about with Miel and Duhart, and all of a sudden,
- 31:39Speaker 1: you know, wipe out some years of your career, or
- 31:42Speaker 1: arbitration money should be higher and you know all of that. Instead,
- 31:46Speaker 1: he doesn't have to worry about that. He's got a
- 31:48Speaker 1: firm contract in hand.
- 31:50Speaker 3: This is why I always say take your first one.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I know certain agents will say no, no, no,
- 31:55Speaker 3: hold out, hold out, hold on. I get that. But
- 31:57Speaker 3: also these things happen and he's got that contract to
- 32:03Speaker 3: fall back and he'll be fine. He's a position player,
- 32:05Speaker 3: he should come back. He'll be fine. But man, this
- 32:07Speaker 3: is why you're like, oh, I got one hundred and
- 32:09Speaker 3: fifty million in the bank. Okay, cool. No matter what happens,
- 32:13Speaker 3: it's a nice little thing to a nice little pillows
- 32:16Speaker 3: got to be able to fall back.
- 32:17Speaker 1: To it is, and for Boston Krafts the same good
- 32:21Speaker 1: since they let go of Cora and his staff, their
- 32:23Speaker 1: offense is even worse.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Well, it's probably not. It was probably Cororra's fault. Probably
- 32:31Speaker 2: the coaches, probably the both hitting coaches. I think didn't
- 32:36Speaker 2: they get rid of dyl Mawson and the head guy.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I don't remember, but they definitely did a reshuffle there
- 32:45Speaker 1: with the hitting, the hitting specifically point of all those Yeah,
- 32:49Speaker 1: big point of contention. They want everybody doing the pulled
- 32:52Speaker 1: fly ball contact thing. Pull your fly balls.
- 32:57Speaker 2: I heard I heard a player with the Yankees, and
- 33:01Speaker 2: this is the Yankees, not the Red Sox. He was
- 33:02Speaker 2: told that his OPS was five hundred points or four
- 33:07Speaker 2: hundred points higher when he pulled the ball in the
- 33:10Speaker 2: air down the left field line. He was like, what
- 33:16Speaker 2: he's like, of course it is. Nobody plays there. That's
- 33:19Speaker 2: not a good swing. That's not healthy. So maybe the
- 33:21Speaker 2: Red Sox keep making those types of swings. It's gonna
- 33:25Speaker 2: be a long season in Fenway.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you're going to get more stories too from hitters
- 33:31Speaker 1: having dissension with what's being implemented exactly for what Kratz
- 33:35Speaker 1: is talking about. AJ. We could do a whole segment
- 33:36Speaker 1: on it, and we will once there are more stories
- 33:38Speaker 1: that come out about it, but it's ugly.
- 33:42Speaker 3: If I could hit a line every time, I would
- 33:43Speaker 3: have hit a thousands.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Did you guys see this when virals Salvador Perez get
- 33:53Speaker 1: some abs challenges on last DS and then after two
- 33:58Speaker 1: in a row, he like looks down at him next
- 34:00Speaker 1: to him. Of course, some people are like, oh, you
- 34:02Speaker 1: know getting in their shots at ups and hey, our
- 34:04Speaker 1: show will do that too. In this case, that was fun.
- 34:07Speaker 1: That's good entertainment. That's just two humans getting along. Like aj,
- 34:11Speaker 1: I'm sure you appreciate that. All the back and forth
- 34:13Speaker 1: you had for years with umps like, that's the good stuff.
- 34:16Speaker 1: That's the human element of getting along.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Yeah, last, last, Last made a joke out of it,
- 34:21Speaker 3: and know it was good to lighten the mood and
- 34:22Speaker 3: made it cool. I love this so usually it was
- 34:25Speaker 3: like uh oh one, nope, overturned, two overturned, third ones close,
- 34:32Speaker 3: and last is like you don't want to challengees one?
- 34:36Speaker 3: There saw me so good on last for not getting
- 34:39Speaker 3: mad and understanding and having a good time with it.
- 34:41Speaker 3: I can really appreciate when umpires understand that they're not
- 34:45Speaker 3: perfect at their job.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I mean, this is exactly if you look up at
- 34:49Speaker 2: last das his numbers behind the dish. They very much
- 34:53Speaker 2: in line with Angel Hernandez. Angel Hernandez handles it differently.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Las handles it. Sometimes you see you see him get
- 35:01Speaker 2: pissed off and he and he chirped back at guys.
- 35:04Speaker 2: But he just has a different type of relationship with guys.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Obviously he's got place in my heart. He caught he
- 35:09Speaker 2: was behind the dish for me in my first, my
- 35:12Speaker 2: first ever big league game, and so but he creates
- 35:17Speaker 2: that relationship. He wasn't trying to show up Salvi with
- 35:22Speaker 2: some of the first ABS's that we've seen ABS challenges
- 35:24Speaker 2: we've seen this year. You see guys like I think
- 35:27Speaker 2: it was Stebee Buckner was like challenging, Oh you challenge
- 35:30Speaker 2: another one, unbelievable. What Oh, I'm wrong. So it's all
- 35:35Speaker 2: like it's treating each other like you're both professionals. Not
- 35:39Speaker 2: that we got to treat each other with kid gloves.
- 35:42Speaker 2: But don't be a don't don't be don't try to
- 35:44Speaker 2: be a superhero out there. So Las made a little
- 35:47Speaker 2: bit of a little bit of a joke out of it.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 35:50Speaker 1: And on the topic of not being perfect, the Mets
- 35:53Speaker 1: Nationals came and the confusion and extras, also showing us
- 35:58Speaker 1: the human element of umpires. The me's broadcasters all over them.
- 36:04Speaker 2: You make mistakes, you make mistakes. I'm glad they went
- 36:08Speaker 2: and checked at least, and they weren't like in high
- 36:10Speaker 2: school games, because I'd deal with high school umpires. They're like, no, no, no,
- 36:13Speaker 2: we're not going to check. I was like, well, could
- 36:14Speaker 2: I get the rule book out? They're like, you get
- 36:16Speaker 2: the rule book out, you're going to be what do
- 36:19Speaker 2: they say, something like banned to the bench? Like you're
- 36:22Speaker 2: not thrown out of the game anymore, you have to
- 36:24Speaker 2: go sit on the bench. So I'd have to sit
- 36:26Speaker 2: on the bench for the rest of the game. I'm like, well,
- 36:28Speaker 2: you got the rule wrong. Unintentional contact is not the
- 36:33Speaker 2: call there, So.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Ready for some accounting cash going both ways In the
- 36:41Speaker 1: Eric Lower deal, Shida Beati from Sportsnet posted the math
- 36:45Speaker 1: league minimum the rest of the way. It is five
- 36:46Speaker 1: to fifty K. The Dodgers are paying about six hundred K,
- 36:49Speaker 1: so about the league minimum for Eric Lower. The Blue
- 36:51Speaker 1: Jays are sending about two and a half million to
- 36:52Speaker 1: the Dodgers to cover the pro rated remainder of Lower's salary,
- 36:56Speaker 1: there will not be a player to be named later,
- 36:58Speaker 1: So this is just a cash deal. Deal guarantees the
- 37:00Speaker 1: Blue Jays a taker for pro rated portion of the
- 37:02Speaker 1: league minimum. Add it all up, and actually, aj many
- 37:05Speaker 1: fans are pissed that the Blue Jays handed lower and
- 37:08Speaker 1: think that he's probably going to help the Dodgers right now,
- 37:11Speaker 1: like it's it's risk aburst because if you throw them
- 37:14Speaker 1: out there. In general, I guess they were thinking no
- 37:17Speaker 1: team was going to pick him up for the league minimum.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I disagree. I think a team would have scooped him
- 37:22Speaker 1: up if the Dodgers didn't. But I'm not in on
- 37:24Speaker 1: all of those conversations.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Right just shows you how much the Blue Jays want
- 37:28Speaker 3: to get rid of them after what he said. I mean,
- 37:30Speaker 3: this was a we need big fans of you right now,
- 37:33Speaker 3: Eric Lauer, after the things you said about not being
- 37:35Speaker 3: a starter or the opener or whatever. The heck he's
- 37:37Speaker 3: you know, all the things he said about it's not
- 37:39Speaker 3: comfortable and all that, and they're like, well, you're not
- 37:40Speaker 3: a team player. We can find somewhere else wee to go,
- 37:42Speaker 3: and he ended up in Los Angeles, So I think
- 37:46Speaker 3: he's doing okay. But yeah, I mean, this was just
- 37:50Speaker 3: a strictly we're not happy with you. We're going to
- 37:52Speaker 3: try and get rid of you. And unfortunately for the
- 37:54Speaker 3: Blue Jays, the Dodgers picked him up and now they're
- 37:56Speaker 3: covering so a salary. But this is the way things happen.
- 38:00Speaker 1: If they were really pissed Chross, they should have banished
- 38:02Speaker 1: him to Denver. I mean, they gave him to the Dodgers.
- 38:04Speaker 1: He's gonna start this week. What are we doing?
- 38:08Speaker 2: I mean, Denver didn't want them. They they they're they're
- 38:11Speaker 2: looking for bulk guys. They're looking for guys who are
- 38:13Speaker 2: gonna be openers to start in front of their start,
- 38:17Speaker 2: in front of their prospects. But they're gonna they're gonna
- 38:19Speaker 2: give Jose Quintana the whole start. But that's that's a
- 38:23Speaker 2: whole Oh and Shiguano, Shighano is gonna start in the
- 38:25Speaker 2: first inning, but not not our best pitcher. But anyway,
- 38:29Speaker 2: but yeah, like Eric Lauer put him in, they put him.
- 38:33Speaker 2: He put himself in the spot by the words he
- 38:35Speaker 2: said yes. But also he had a six and a
- 38:39Speaker 2: half e ra too. Like the worst thing you can
- 38:42Speaker 2: do is say something and pitch bad and It's just
- 38:47Speaker 2: I hope it doesn't come back to bite the Blue
- 38:48Speaker 2: Jays because you're not gonna run tray you savage out
- 38:52Speaker 2: there night in and night out. Five you know, five
- 38:55Speaker 2: days or five starts in a row, you're gonna have
- 38:58Speaker 2: to give him some time off. So it's so he
- 39:00Speaker 2: stays healthy. But where are they going to find those innings?
- 39:03Speaker 2: They clearly were like, it's not gonna be from Eric Lauer.
- 39:07Speaker 2: So we parted ways.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I disagree he was not with you, but I don't
- 39:12Speaker 1: think he was the worst arm on the active roster. So,
- 39:15Speaker 1: like AJ said, there were words, but I'm betting on
- 39:19Speaker 1: him doing well this week. Did you guys see this
- 39:24Speaker 1: from Adam Maco, who made his debut. He's Canadian. He
- 39:27Speaker 1: retired all three batters faced. Can we show the tweets?
- 39:30Speaker 1: They're so good? There's two one. Both of them have
- 39:33Speaker 1: to do with him essentially blacking out throughout the entire
- 39:35Speaker 1: evening and not really recognizing the situation at Yankee Stadium
- 39:40Speaker 1: getting the call. So here's one quote from him postgame.
- 39:43Speaker 1: My knees were weak. When I stepped on the field,
- 39:44Speaker 1: the lights went out, and I was like, this is
- 39:45Speaker 1: a cool entrance? Is this for me. Why are they
- 39:47Speaker 1: doing this? I'm on the road. It was amazing. I
- 39:49Speaker 1: honestly blacked out for a lot of it. And there's
- 39:52Speaker 1: one more. This is before the outing, he heard someone
- 39:54Speaker 1: in the Yankee bleacher screaming his name over and over
- 39:56Speaker 1: as he warmed up. So he's like, I have fantuonting him.
- 39:58Speaker 1: No big deal up. It's his high school baseball coach.
- 40:02Speaker 1: That is just too good. Aj like he was in
- 40:05Speaker 1: another world. He was on another planet the entire night.
- 40:10Speaker 3: This is what happens when you make your big league debut.
- 40:11Speaker 3: You don't remember a whole lot of stuff, so you
- 40:14Speaker 3: look back. There's a lot of times where in your
- 40:16Speaker 3: big league career you're like, man, I wish I remembered
- 40:18Speaker 3: more about this or that. So enjoy it. And this
- 40:20Speaker 3: is super cool because I mean, you get to bank
- 40:22Speaker 3: your big league debut in Yankee Stadium. Pretty awesome.
- 40:26Speaker 2: He's a lefty too, He's a Canadian lefty. And he
- 40:29Speaker 2: said his knees were weak. I wonder if his arm
- 40:31Speaker 2: was heavy. I wonder if there was like any vomit
- 40:33Speaker 2: on his sweater already, Like if it was like mom's
- 40:37Speaker 2: spaghetti or something that would have been like a whole
- 40:39Speaker 2: crazy moment.
- 40:41Speaker 1: It would have. I mean it was blackout status, and
- 40:44Speaker 1: his lines post game were good. I mean it was
- 40:46Speaker 1: eight mile of performance on the postgame quotes. That's how
- 40:50Speaker 1: you got a fan base to love you real quick.
- 40:53Speaker 1: You tell it like it is your Canadia.
- 40:55Speaker 2: You get three outs against the Yankees.
- 40:57Speaker 1: And that you helped to preserve the lead. But ultimately
- 41:01Speaker 1: Jazz hit a homer off the foul pole to win
- 41:03Speaker 1: in seven to six for the Yanks in the first
- 41:05Speaker 1: of that series. But should be a fun one anyway,
- 41:09Speaker 1: coming up next, we're going to do a little that's
- 41:11Speaker 1: what he said. It'll be somewhat quick. We'll get to
- 41:13Speaker 1: one quote from the Brewers manager who leads the league,
- 41:17Speaker 1: and that's what he said, appearances, and then we'll get
- 41:20Speaker 1: to the Twins news. There's a couple notes there with
- 41:23Speaker 1: some roster shuffling going on. Be right back.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 41:26Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 41:29Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 41:30Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 41:34Speaker 3: I mean, we know how these series go.
- 41:36Speaker 4: You know, you erase it and just keep going. It's
- 41:38Speaker 4: not necessarily a game where they're gonna ever be intimidated
- 41:42Speaker 4: by guys they don't even know most of our guys' names,
- 41:44Speaker 4: you know what I mean, So they're never going to
- 41:46Speaker 4: be intimidated by us.
- 41:47Speaker 3: But we're not looking for that.
- 41:49Speaker 4: We're looking for just turn around and play good again
- 41:51Speaker 4: and for us to you know, it's a long season.
- 41:54Speaker 4: You know, we're forty forty five or forty six games in. Yeah,
- 41:58Speaker 4: it's a long season. So we're just looking to continue
- 42:01Speaker 4: to improve any way we can. And I'm proud of
- 42:04Speaker 4: our guys. Like I said, I've said all year, I
- 42:06Speaker 4: trust these guys. But we got to get better, there's
- 42:09Speaker 4: no question. And we got a very young pitching staff.
- 42:11Speaker 4: So we've got to have games where we have five AB's,
- 42:15Speaker 4: you know, when the lineup turns over five times and
- 42:18Speaker 4: you know how good things are happening.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Yeah that was after the Brewers jumped out do an
- 42:23Speaker 1: a nothing lead that they jumped show to Amanaga and
- 42:26Speaker 1: the open up the Brewers Cup Series. And the Brewers
- 42:29Speaker 1: are playing just as good as the Cubs. They're always there,
- 42:32Speaker 1: Pat Murphy acting like it was, you know, posts eight
- 42:35Speaker 1: game losing skit and aj. We know the Brewers players.
- 42:38Speaker 1: We know Corbyn Burns, we know Freddie Peralta, we know
- 42:42Speaker 1: Caleb Durbin. We know all of his players.
- 42:47Speaker 3: This is just Murph trying to motivate his guys and
- 42:49Speaker 3: keep everyone. No. This is this is perfect Murph. This
- 42:52Speaker 3: is average shows, underdog story, the whole deal, the big
- 42:56Speaker 3: bad Cubs and Craig Council and here we are, the
- 42:59Speaker 3: lowly Brewer. This is classic Murph and I love it.
- 43:02Speaker 3: I mean, he pleased this up better than any other manager,
- 43:05Speaker 3: any other coach in the big leagues. And it's pretty
- 43:08Speaker 3: awesome that he can keep doing this. He keeps going
- 43:10Speaker 3: to the well and it keeps working because every time
- 43:12Speaker 3: I hear it, I just laugh and so good on you, Murphy.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Who they are? They know who they are, alright, Scott.
- 43:18Speaker 2: They know. They just spent the last three days advanced
- 43:21Speaker 2: scouting them. They watched baseball. They're not just coming into
- 43:25Speaker 2: town going gee, I wonder what team. I know, we're
- 43:29Speaker 2: back in Wrigley right now. We love playing Wrigley. I
- 43:31Speaker 2: wonder what team we're playing? Who's that guy? Bro Jackson?
- 43:36Speaker 2: What is it? Jackson Holiday? Oh no, Jackson, Churio, Christian Yelich.
- 43:41Speaker 2: He had won off the scoreboard. Let's see who else?
- 43:43Speaker 2: Who else can we throw out there? Like they got
- 43:46Speaker 2: three center fielders roaming around in Wrigley Field. They know
- 43:48Speaker 2: exactly who is out there. They know they're facing Masarowski tonight,
- 43:51Speaker 2: who punched out eight plus in his last six starts
- 43:55Speaker 2: and like nine more than nine in whatever many starts
- 43:59Speaker 2: in his career. Yes, they know, they know who they are.
- 44:03Speaker 1: That's my thing. Is you played for them? Are they
- 44:05Speaker 1: sitting there like nobody knows who we are? You just
- 44:08Speaker 1: named guys that are actually household names. Christian Yelich contraris
- 44:12Speaker 1: miz now with what he's done the past year and
- 44:15Speaker 1: a half that there's enough there for people to know.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Tario for sure.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Respect. Do people respect the opponent that you're playing? Yes?
- 44:23Speaker 2: Are people feared of your Are you ever fearful of
- 44:26Speaker 2: your opponent? No? No, maybe maybe I'm wrong, Maybe maybe
- 44:31Speaker 2: AJ can tell me I'm wrong, But you're never going
- 44:34Speaker 2: We got no chance. The miss is thrown a night. No,
- 44:37Speaker 2: you're like, give me a bat. I'm gonna try to
- 44:39Speaker 2: hit that too, Like, I get it. You understand what
- 44:41Speaker 2: guys have done, but nobody's nobody's intimidating anybody, Like who
- 44:45Speaker 2: we threw inside? That guy's so intimidating. No, that's not
- 44:49Speaker 2: that's not the game. I mean, maybe that's how they
- 44:52Speaker 2: played it before, but that's not the game. Where we're
- 44:53Speaker 2: at now, nobody's intimidating anybody. The Dodgers aren't intimidating anybody.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Missus Jolly Green Giant ajas six foot seven, happy go lucky,
- 45:04Speaker 1: Pokemon collecting, you know, neighborhood spider Man.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he does one hundred and four. It's awesome.
- 45:11Speaker 3: But I mean, the Brewers are a good team. We
- 45:13Speaker 3: knew this coming into the year. And they beat the
- 45:16Speaker 3: Cubs last night, and we'll see what happens today. But
- 45:18Speaker 3: the Cubs also lost to in a row to the
- 45:20Speaker 3: White Sox. So Go White Sox, and.
- 45:23Speaker 2: They lost to the Cubs. The Cubs. The Cubs lost
- 45:26Speaker 2: last year in the playoffs to them. They know who
- 45:29Speaker 2: they're playing.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Two things with the Twins. Actually, there's been a lot
- 45:32Speaker 1: of roster moves with your first club, aj They optioned
- 45:36Speaker 1: Matt Walner several days ago than today. They optioned Royce Lewis,
- 45:39Speaker 1: and they lose Ryan Jeffers, who's been their best overall player.
- 45:42Speaker 1: He's going to be out for a while with the
- 45:44Speaker 1: Hamlet Bone.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Tuplow with the Jeffers thing. He was having a
- 45:50Speaker 3: nice start to the year. I think he had seven
- 45:52Speaker 3: or eight homers, catching a lot, getting to play a lot,
- 45:56Speaker 3: and leading the staff to better I think, I mean,
- 45:59Speaker 3: they're not in first place, but better than I think
- 46:00Speaker 3: we could have expected with the twins. But Royce Lewis
- 46:03Speaker 3: is the story. I mean, he won one like JJ
- 46:06Speaker 3: talked about, and here he is in Triple A after years
- 46:08Speaker 3: of just I really wish he could stay healthy and
- 46:11Speaker 3: prove what he can do well. He's been healthy. The
- 46:13Speaker 3: problem is he hasn't hit in almost a year. So
- 46:16Speaker 3: maybe I don't know what happened to his hit skill,
- 46:18Speaker 3: but he could always hit, and now for the last
- 46:20Speaker 3: year or so he has not been able to hit
- 46:22Speaker 3: the way that everyone expected him to.
- 46:25Speaker 2: I'm impressed they sent him down, not that I want
- 46:27Speaker 2: anybody to get sent down. They sent Walner down. Walner's
- 46:32Speaker 2: you know, he probably becomes a d h you know,
- 46:34Speaker 2: the way he roams the outfield, his numbers and everything.
- 46:37Speaker 2: But maybe Derek Shelton creating a environment where it's like, hey,
- 46:44Speaker 2: this is gonna be the standard that we're looking for.
- 46:46Speaker 2: If it's not there, we're going to send you to Rochester. Well,
- 46:49Speaker 2: I guess now they're Saint Paul, but we're going to
- 46:52Speaker 2: send you a triple A. So I'm impressed that they
- 46:55Speaker 2: did that because a team that's not really well, the
- 46:57Speaker 2: owner thinks they're in contention, but really contention. Maybe they're
- 47:01Speaker 2: trying to set a standard, and you know what, if
- 47:03Speaker 2: you're not living up to that standard from your play
- 47:05Speaker 2: on the field, we're gonna try to get somebody else.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Because they brought Orlando Arcia up to replace Royce Lewis,
- 47:12Speaker 2: who's not gonna He's not gonna light the world on
- 47:14Speaker 2: fire with his bat, but you know what, he'll fill
- 47:17Speaker 2: in with the glove and the game will go on.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and eventually Royce will be on another team and
- 47:23Speaker 1: he's gonna play better. I guarantee it. I can't speak
- 47:26Speaker 1: to the health component because I know he's had that problem.
- 47:28Speaker 1: You can disagree with me, Guys, he's gonna go somewhere else.
- 47:31Speaker 1: He's gonna be a superstar. I don't know, but I
- 47:33Speaker 1: think he's just been through a lot. There some devastating injuries.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Then that the way the Twins have operated the last
- 47:38Speaker 1: few years, and you're one of the faces last year,
- 47:42Speaker 1: cutting a third of the team. I know that's not
- 47:44Speaker 1: all his problem, but some guys are more emotional. They
- 47:47Speaker 1: wear it on their sleeves. And he's spoken openly about it, right,
- 47:49Speaker 1: like I never know where I stand. He just he's
- 47:53Speaker 1: gonna go somewhere else and be good.
- 47:55Speaker 2: He was almost a superstar.
- 47:57Speaker 5: I agree when they were good and care.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Aj. Did you see the other day when the NHL
- 48:15Speaker 1: stripped a draft pick from the Vegas Golden Knights for
- 48:19Speaker 1: not talking. Did you guys see that? Oh you didn't. Yeah,
- 48:24Speaker 1: I guess I should have come prepared more with all
- 48:26Speaker 1: the details, but I just thought it was interesting. Yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 1: they wouldn't talk to the media, led by who's the dude,
- 48:33Speaker 1: someone's going to help me out behind the scenes. Okay,
- 48:35Speaker 1: so they got hit with a second round draft pick
- 48:37Speaker 1: and one hundred thousand dollars. Fine. John Tortorella, who I've
- 48:41Speaker 1: done television with, didn't want to talk, which I have
- 48:44Speaker 1: a problem with. You're a TV analyst in between jobs
- 48:47Speaker 1: and then now you're too big to talk to the media.
- 48:50Speaker 1: And he only supplied one player post game, he didn't
- 48:52Speaker 1: talk at all, and most people were like, Hey, we're
- 48:56Speaker 1: the fans, we want to hear from the freaking players
- 48:59Speaker 1: in the coach after a playoff game. There were some
- 49:02Speaker 1: that were like, oh, we don't, we don't need to
- 49:04Speaker 1: be for that. Oh well, where are you going to
- 49:06Speaker 1: get the postgame answers? Do you think he's going to
- 49:08Speaker 1: go like this, hey guys towards here with my postgame report,
- 49:12Speaker 1: Like you don't get anything from them unless they speak.
- 49:14Speaker 1: You might not like every single question, but I thought
- 49:17Speaker 1: it was disgusting for him to just be like, I'm sorry,
- 49:20Speaker 1: I'm too big for you guys, And good for the
- 49:22Speaker 1: NHL for smacking a second round pick loss on them.
- 49:26Speaker 1: That's a big deal.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Absolutely. I was just trying to figure it out.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I have a yeah, mm hm, you got nothing for
- 49:41Speaker 1: me on that. H I thought it was cool.
- 49:44Speaker 3: I mean, good for the league, but I mean kind
- 49:45Speaker 3: of crappy on the on the nights or not talking right.
- 49:49Speaker 1: But I'm saying like, if you were commission right and
- 49:53Speaker 1: that problem occurred, you come down hard, right, No they did.
- 49:57Speaker 3: I thought it was good.
- 49:59Speaker 2: I mean, so it's sets a precedent, but as a precedent,
- 50:04Speaker 2: like you should have to talk to some extent maybe
- 50:07Speaker 2: if you give just brutal answers. But the NFL sets
- 50:11Speaker 2: it up incredible. They have guys available all the week
- 50:15Speaker 2: leading up and I get it. They played once a
- 50:17Speaker 2: week blah blah blah. But they've done a great job.
- 50:19Speaker 2: And oh what league is the most successible and most
- 50:23Speaker 2: well advertised.
- 50:27Speaker 1: And the most profitable. NFL. They know what they're doing. NFL,
- 50:30Speaker 1: then NBA. Every player has a show and all that.
- 50:32Speaker 1: You can like or hate that, but you got a
- 50:34Speaker 1: lot of inpo from them. They appealed the Knights and
- 50:37Speaker 1: the league said, yeah, beat it, you got to talk.
- 50:40Speaker 1: They want to move on to the conference championship series
- 50:43Speaker 1: and they wouldn't talk. It's ridiculous. So dork of the week. Actually,
- 50:48Speaker 1: I'm going to suggest to Canon Alana on Thursday.
- 50:51Speaker 2: See, yeah, we're a baseball show.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Come on, Scott. I wanted to relate it to Baseball
- 50:57Speaker 1: Hot Sheet on Baseball America to YouTube channel. Yeah, okay,
- 51:04Speaker 1: if you'd like yourself a little odds boost token bet
- 51:07Speaker 1: MGM's the spot you can score a bigger payout. They
- 51:10Speaker 1: make it very easy, nice and clean on the app.
- 51:12Speaker 1: There it is supply boost. You flip that over if
- 51:15Speaker 1: it's the right bet to get things started with your week,
- 51:18Speaker 1: Just add an MLB bet to your bet slip, activate
- 51:21Speaker 1: the token, lock it in. If your bet hits, you're
- 51:23Speaker 1: cash now with a bigger payout. Gambling problem or concern
