- 0:28Speaker 1: is officially over. Coach Summerall said Monday that Saturday's second
- 0:33Speaker 1: scrimmage marked the end of training camp, and I actually
- 0:36Speaker 1: think we learned quite a bit from it. And some
- 0:40Speaker 1: of it was really encouraging. Obviously, some of it definitely wasn't.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But the biggest thing that jumped out to me was
- 0:46Speaker 1: the group that, honestly, I was the most concerned about,
- 0:50Speaker 1: had the most questions about going into camp, and that's
- 0:53Speaker 1: the offensive line. Sarmal was very clear about the scrimmage.
- 0:57Speaker 1: He said the offense won the night, that they ran
- 1:00Speaker 1: the ball really well, and not just Jaden Bob, but
- 1:03Speaker 1: the entire room. And he said the offensive line played
- 1:06Speaker 1: its best football since he's gotten to Florida. I think
- 1:10Speaker 1: that's a really big statement considering where we were just
- 1:13Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago. After the first scrimmage, there
- 1:16Speaker 1: was still a lot of questions. They were moving guys around.
- 1:18Speaker 1: They were still trying to figure out the tackle spots.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They really didn't have a set five. And While all
- 1:24Speaker 1: of us have been spending lots of fall camp talking
- 1:27Speaker 1: about the quarterback controversy, Summerhill basically admitted that his biggest
- 1:33Speaker 1: concern has always been offensive line. And he just wasn't
- 1:38Speaker 1: quite there with them yet until Saturday. You know, he'd
- 1:41Speaker 1: gotten to the point where he felt like either quarterback
- 1:44Speaker 1: could win games, but he needed to get to that
- 1:46Speaker 1: point with the line and he's there now. And so
- 1:49Speaker 1: I think that maybe is the best thing to come
- 1:52Speaker 1: out of scrimmage number two. And that's the offensive line
- 1:56Speaker 1: finally starting to come together. Summerall talked a lot in
- 1:59Speaker 1: his press conference on Monday about cohesion. Florida spent most
- 2:03Speaker 1: of last week letting that first offensive line group work together.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And Summerall says in the scrimmage, you could see the difference.
- 2:11Speaker 1: That matters with an offensive line because it's not always
- 2:13Speaker 1: about just putting your five most talented guys out there.
- 2:17Speaker 1: They have to know how the guy next to them
- 2:19Speaker 1: is going to react. They have to be able to
- 2:20Speaker 1: communicate with each other. They have to work combination blocks,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and they have to recognize what the defense is doing
- 2:27Speaker 1: before the snap. And when Brad White is throwing a
- 2:30Speaker 1: bajillion different looks at them, I don't think that's easy.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Sarmal said they finally started to look like a group
- 2:36Speaker 1: that actually trusted each other. He also had some really
- 2:40Speaker 1: strong things to say about Bryce Lovett. Lovett has played guard.
- 2:43Speaker 1: He's played tackle. The staff has challenged him. And Sarmal
- 2:47Speaker 1: says that he has responded. He said on the first
- 2:50Speaker 1: drive of the scrimmage, Jaden Baugh and Bryce Lovett were
- 2:52Speaker 1: the two guys who stood out the most. And as
- 2:56Speaker 1: of right now, it sounds like Lovett is probably your
- 2:58Speaker 1: starting left tackle. Harrison Moore at center, TJ Shanahan at
- 3:01Speaker 1: right guard, Emeka at right tackle. And then there's still
- 3:05Speaker 1: some other guys that are really involved. TJ Dice, Egan Boyer,
- 3:09Speaker 1: Caden Jones. So I don't think it's necessarily a deal
- 3:13Speaker 1: where Florida picks five guys right now and those five
- 3:16Speaker 1: play every snap of the season, especially Egan. the early games,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I would expect them to rotate some of those guys
- 3:22Speaker 1: and keep figuring out which groups give them the best
- 3:26Speaker 1: chance long-term. But Summerall sounded a lot more confident about
- 3:30Speaker 1: that group than he did just honestly a week ago.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And one thing he said that I absolutely loved is
- 3:36Speaker 1: that they're starting to play with a little bit of
- 3:38Speaker 1: a chip on their shoulder, a little swagger, a little pride.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And that's exactly what you want from your offensive line.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And it sounds like their running backs took advantage of it.
- 3:48Speaker 1: That was kind of the other big story from Saturday's scrimmage.
- 3:53Speaker 1: This room looks deep. Jaden Baugh, Evan Pryor, Duke Clark,
- 3:57Speaker 1: London Montgomery, Byron Lewis. Sarmel kept coming back to the
- 4:01Speaker 1: depth of that room. And his point was pretty simple.
- 4:05Speaker 1: If the offensive line can give these guys a crease,
- 4:08Speaker 1: Florida has backs who can do something with it. And
- 4:11Speaker 1: he saw that on Saturday. He saw chunk runs and
- 4:13Speaker 1: there were touchdowns. And it sounds like Baugh came out
- 4:16Speaker 1: and really set the tone early. Summerall basically described that
- 4:20Speaker 1: first drive as Jaden Baugh's drive. And that's exactly what
- 4:24Speaker 1: we want to hear. I've said all offseason, I don't
- 4:27Speaker 1: think Florida needs to build an offense where the quarterback
- 4:30Speaker 1: has to throw the ball 40 or 45 times to win.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I think this offense should run through Jaden Baugh. If
- 4:36Speaker 1: the offensive line is actually coming together... then I think
- 4:39Speaker 1: suddenly everything gets easier. You're staying out of third and long.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Play action becomes more dangerous. Defense has to bring people
- 4:46Speaker 1: into the box. I think that helps your receivers and
- 4:48Speaker 1: your quarterback. Truly, it helps everything. And if Evan Pryor
- 4:52Speaker 1: and some of these other backs can give Florida real
- 4:54Speaker 1: production behind Baugh, then that keeps you from having to
- 4:57Speaker 1: run him into the ground early in the year. Gonna
- 5:00Speaker 1: take a quick break from this video to give some

- 5:39Speaker 1: appreciate Alumni Hall for all their support. The other big
- 5:42Speaker 1: news coming out of all of this is obviously that
- 5:45Speaker 1: we know who the quarterback is and it's Aaron Philo.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And I'm not going to spend forever on here talking
- 5:51Speaker 1: about that because I already did a whole video on
- 5:53Speaker 1: him getting the starting job. But Saturday was basically the
- 5:56Speaker 1: final piece that Summerall needed. Philo is going to get
- 5:59Speaker 1: most of the first team reps moving forward. I'm pretty
- 6:02Speaker 1: sure he referred to it as the lion's share of
- 6:04Speaker 1: the reps and Florida's preparing to start in week one.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I think it's worth pointing out though, that it really
- 6:09Speaker 1: does sound like it was a true competition. Summerall didn't
- 6:12Speaker 1: talk about Tramell Jones like a guy who never had
- 6:14Speaker 1: a chance. He said Jones improved a ton from the spring,
- 6:18Speaker 1: enough that it was a very legitimate battle. And what
- 6:21Speaker 1: separated them really wasn't arm talent and it wasn't athletic ability.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Summerall said those things are actually pretty similar. The difference
- 6:28Speaker 1: was operating the offense. Philo is a little further ahead
- 6:32Speaker 1: in getting Florida into the right call, and probably more importantly,
- 6:37Speaker 1: getting them out of a bad call, recognizing what the
- 6:40Speaker 1: defense is showing, making adjustments on the line, seeing the
- 6:42Speaker 1: middle of the field, and considering his background in Buster
- 6:46Speaker 1: Faulkner's offense, I think all of that makes sense. The
- 6:49Speaker 1: other thing that stood out to me was the turnover piece.
- 6:52Speaker 1: After the first scrimmage, Summerall said Philo had put the
- 6:54Speaker 1: ball in jeopardy more than Jones did. That flipped on
- 6:57Speaker 1: Saturday night. Jones had a couple bad exchanges, threw a pick,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and had another ball that Summerall said it should have
- 7:02Speaker 1: been intercepted. And Philo took better care of the football.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Summerall made it pretty clear that Florida cannot afford to
- 7:09Speaker 1: just give possessions away this year. So I think they're
- 7:13Speaker 1: going to start, you know, giving more to Philo at
- 7:17Speaker 1: the moment. But it truly doesn't sound like the competition
- 7:19Speaker 1: is completely over. And he just had so many glowing
- 7:22Speaker 1: things to say about Jones. He talked about the fact
- 7:25Speaker 1: that he'd go to war with him, and he seemed
- 7:27Speaker 1: really comfortable with either guy. And I think that that
- 7:31Speaker 1: probably bodes well for this team in the long run,
- 7:33Speaker 1: because the odds that one guy starts the first and
- 7:35Speaker 1: plays every minute all the way through seems small. But
- 7:39Speaker 1: right now they can let Philo start to build chemistry
- 7:42Speaker 1: with the ones, and that's important. And Florida can start
- 7:47Speaker 1: preparing for an actual opponent instead of evaluating two quarterbacks
- 7:50Speaker 1: every day. And... Now to the bad part, which that's
- 7:56Speaker 1: a little dramatic. But Saturday is a little bit more
- 7:59Speaker 1: complicated than when you evaluate a game, because if you
- 8:03Speaker 1: hear that the offense dominated, your first reaction is probably, hey,
- 8:07Speaker 1: that's awesome. Except somebody was playing defense against them, and
- 8:11Speaker 1: it was us. And Summerall was not happy with the defense.
- 8:15Speaker 1: At first, he thought maybe the defensive front had just
- 8:17Speaker 1: gotten handled. But he said he went back and he
- 8:20Speaker 1: watched the tape and And really that that wasn't the case.
- 8:23Speaker 1: He thought the front was actually okay. The offensive line
- 8:26Speaker 1: just played better. The bigger problems, though, came behind them.
- 8:30Speaker 1: He said the linebackers were missing fits. Guys were losing leverage,
- 8:33Speaker 1: missing tackles in space. And probably what he identified as
- 8:37Speaker 1: the biggest issue of the night was communication in the secondary.
- 8:41Speaker 1: He said on the back end it was really poor.
- 8:43Speaker 1: So poor that he spent a lot of Monday's practice
- 8:46Speaker 1: over with the defense, making sure that those guys were
- 8:48Speaker 1: talking to each other. So I do think that's something
- 8:51Speaker 1: to keep an eye on moving forward. Busted coverage from
- 8:56Speaker 1: busted communication is not good. That turns into touchdowns really fast.
- 9:01Speaker 1: There was a big play to Micah Mays where Summerall
- 9:04Speaker 1: said two secondary players basically were not on the same page.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And there was another touchdown to Bailey Stockton that he
- 9:10Speaker 1: said flat out should have been intercepted. And I think
- 9:13Speaker 1: that's important because sometimes we see touchdown and automatically think, yes,
- 9:17Speaker 1: great offensive play. Summerall watched the tape and said, no,
- 9:21Speaker 1: that was actually really just bad defense. And there is
- 9:24Speaker 1: a difference in that. Florida can't beat Florida. That's one
- 9:28Speaker 1: of my favorite things that Summerall said on Monday. Florida
- 9:32Speaker 1: can't beat Florida. We've seen that story a lot the
- 9:35Speaker 1: last few years. And it summed up what he didn't
- 9:39Speaker 1: like about the defense on Saturday night. Early in the scrimmage,
- 9:42Speaker 1: the defense had a chance to get off the field
- 9:44Speaker 1: on third and long. Instead, face mask, first down, drive
- 9:48Speaker 1: keeps going, ends in a touchdown. That could have ended
- 9:52Speaker 1: in a field goal. Instead, that mistake gives the offense
- 9:55Speaker 1: another chance, and then they get seven. Those are the
- 9:58Speaker 1: kind of plays that kill you in conference games. And
- 10:02Speaker 1: Summerall basically said Florida isn't at a point where it
- 10:04Speaker 1: can play sloppy football and just assume that it's talented
- 10:07Speaker 1: enough to overcome it. That's going to be something I'm
- 10:10Speaker 1: watching early this season. We have seen Florida teams beat
- 10:13Speaker 1: themselves before with penalties and turnovers and busted coverages, special
- 10:17Speaker 1: teams issues. Little things that turn into huge things. The
- 10:21Speaker 1: good news is they did clean up a lot of
- 10:23Speaker 1: the procedural stuff on offense. They had a full SEC
- 10:27Speaker 1: officiating crew there Saturday. There were no delay of game issues.
- 10:30Speaker 1: The false starts were better. Samaral said officials actually commented
- 10:34Speaker 1: on how clean Florida was playing, and he essentially said,
- 10:38Speaker 1: should have been here last week. But it sounds like
- 10:40Speaker 1: there was progress. Now they need to see that kind
- 10:43Speaker 1: of progress on the defense, though. Cormani McClain is still
- 10:47Speaker 1: one to watch. Summerall's answer on him during the press
- 10:50Speaker 1: conference was pretty much exactly what you would expect. His
- 10:53Speaker 1: best is really, really good. But the question is whether
- 10:56Speaker 1: he can do it every day. He had interceptions in
- 10:59Speaker 1: the scrimmages, but he also had balls he should have
- 11:02Speaker 1: picked and he didn't. Summerall didn't like the way he
- 11:05Speaker 1: tackled in the first scrimmage. He said he's seen him
- 11:07Speaker 1: tackle well at other times this fall, though it's not
- 11:09Speaker 1: a talent issue. It's a consistency issue. Can he do
- 11:13Speaker 1: it every rep? Can he play to that level every
- 11:16Speaker 1: single day? And Summerall said, if he does, look out.
- 11:21Speaker 1: And we all know the talent is there. That's never
- 11:23Speaker 1: been a question with Cormani. The question has always been
- 11:26Speaker 1: whether or not you get the same guy every Saturday.
- 11:29Speaker 1: And if Florida does, that feels like a big deal
- 11:32Speaker 1: for the secondary. And even though the defense struggled Saturday,
- 11:35Speaker 1: there were guys that Summerall really liked. He praised Miles Graham.
- 11:39Speaker 1: He praised Kofi. He said he's been one of the
- 11:41Speaker 1: biggest surprises of the last week and a half. And
- 11:44Speaker 1: he said the defensive line room is still extremely competitive.
- 11:47Speaker 1: A lot of those guys are going to play. At
- 11:49Speaker 1: this point, it's probably more about figuring out who fits
- 11:51Speaker 1: which package and which situation best. So what did we
- 11:56Speaker 1: actually learn from fall camp? This is probably the best
- 11:59Speaker 1: place to end this thing. Saturday wasn't just the second scrimmage.
- 12:03Speaker 1: It was the end of camp. Florida is now moving
- 12:05Speaker 1: into what Summerall calls a mock game week. They're basically
- 12:08Speaker 1: going to treat this week like it was a real
- 12:10Speaker 1: game week. Same practice structure, same routine. Then Saturday, they'll
- 12:14Speaker 1: go through a mock game. Not another full scrimmage, more
- 12:17Speaker 1: of a dress rehearsal, kind of a walkthrough. Situations that
- 12:20Speaker 1: might come up once during the entire season, or maybe
- 12:23Speaker 1: even not at all, but you don't want your team
- 12:26Speaker 1: trying to figure out what to do for the first
- 12:27Speaker 1: time when the game counts. What happens if your center's
- 12:31Speaker 1: helmet comes off? What happens after a safety? What happens
- 12:35Speaker 1: in some weird special team situation? Those are the little
- 12:39Speaker 1: details that they're going to work through this week. And
- 12:42Speaker 1: when I look back at fall camp, I think we
- 12:44Speaker 1: have a much better idea of what this team is now.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Florida has its starting quarterback, even if it doesn't feel
- 12:50Speaker 1: fully permanent. Jaden Baugh looks like he'll be the centerpiece
- 12:53Speaker 1: of a deep running back room. The offensive line is
- 12:56Speaker 1: obviously still a work in progress, but it sounds like
- 12:59Speaker 1: that group has made A huge jump at just the
- 13:01Speaker 1: right time. The defensive line has depth. Cormani McLean has
- 13:05Speaker 1: a chance to be really good if he can be
- 13:07Speaker 1: more consistent. The defense does have some things to clean
- 13:10Speaker 1: up when it comes to communication and tackling and avoiding mistakes.
- 13:13Speaker 1: And probably most importantly, though, it feels like this team
- 13:18Speaker 1: seems to be moving closer to what John Summerall wants
- 13:21Speaker 1: it to look like. Physical and competitive and disciplined and tough.
- 13:26Speaker 1: And even Summerall says they're not there yet. But I
- 13:29Speaker 1: don't think they should be. It's August. You don't need
- 13:31Speaker 1: to be a finished product at this moment. But you
- 13:34Speaker 1: do need to know who you can trust. You need
- 13:36Speaker 1: to start figuring out your rotations. You need to come
- 13:39Speaker 1: out of camp healthy. And you need to start getting
- 13:41Speaker 1: your best guys ready to play together. I think that's
- 13:43Speaker 1: where Florida is right now. The quarterback competition is over
- 13:47Speaker 1: for now. The reps are starting to narrow. Scout teams
- 13:51Speaker 1: are starting. And instead of spending every day trying to
- 13:53Speaker 1: beat another guy wearing a Florida jersey... They're about to
- 13:56Speaker 1: start preparing for somebody else. Fall camp is done, so
- 14:00Speaker 1: now we get to find out what this team actually
- 14:02Speaker 1: looks like when it counts. As always, I want to
- 14:06Speaker 1: give some love to PrizePix. We appreciate them for all
- 14:10Speaker 1: of their support. Don't forget, new users can download the app,

- 14:21Speaker 1: We appreciate them for all their support. I appreciate you
