- 0:22SPEAKER_00: As a writer, you long to make a difference in the world.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: You want to use your creative gifts.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: You might even want to build a part-time or a full-time business with your writing.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: And of course, those are all really exciting goals.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: We all have big dreams and goals when it comes to our writing, and of course, that's a good thing.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: But why is it then that sometimes we feel deflated whenever we think about building a writing habit?
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Now, again, as a writer, we know that habits are the bridge to all the things that we want as writers.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, marketing, relationships, handling your money wisely, all those kinds of things and a lot more things are vital to our success in writing, but none of it really matters if you're not actually producing the work.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: The problem is that whenever we think about writing habits, habits aren't just very exciting when you really just sit down and think about it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Because we think of a habit as something we have to do rather than something that we get to do, rather than something that leads us to everything else that we actually want as writers.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: So that's why over the next couple of weeks, we're going to dust the cobwebs off of this concept of building a writing habit.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: And rather than being something that's dry and dusty, a writing habit can absolutely change your life.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And it can also, by the way, be something that's really, really exciting.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Because whenever you think of a writing habit as an adventure where you're going out into the unknown to accomplish great things, it takes on a whole new meaning.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: You know, as creative people, we naturally tend to resist routines, but we have to think of writing as a blue-collar job, just like carpentry is or plumbing or any other kind of job that requires regular, sustained labor.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: The truth is that you and I are no different.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: This means that the more we can get into a routine with our writing, the more we can think of it as a quote unquote blue-collar job where we show up and we do the work, the more we're actually going to get done.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Without a writing habit, you're never going to get that blog built.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: You'll never finish that book that you've been thinking about all these years, and you'll certainly never build a successful writing business.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: In other words, a great writing habit is the pathway to everything that you've ever dreamed about as a writer.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question: How could a writing habit help you achieve your dreams as a writer?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is an excerpt, by the way, from our free ebook, How to Build a Writing Habit.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: You can get this for free along with six other ebooks on writing as part of our free Daily Writer Starter Kit.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Just go to dailywriterlife.comslash free to grab that.
