Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: My name is Victor Furman. Some call me the Voice.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I've always been fascinated with human nature, spirituality, science and
- 0:15Speaker 1: the crossroads at which they meet. Join me now and
- 0:18Speaker 1: we will explore these topics and so much more with
- 0:22Speaker 1: fascinating guests, authors and experts who will guide us to
- 0:28Speaker 1: Destination unlimited. Is there a connection between our souls, chakras
- 0:40Speaker 1: and vegas nerves? How may we understand the body's internal messages,
- 0:45Speaker 1: not act against our bodies, and regain a soulful connection
- 0:50Speaker 1: to self. My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, c J. Llewellyn,
- 0:56Speaker 1: says that an understanding of subtle energy and our new
- 1:00Speaker 1: servers system will promote a journey to wellness. C J.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Llewellen is a licensed professional counselor, trauma therapist and intuitive
- 1:09Speaker 1: Reiki master in the lineage of doctor macau Usui. Her
- 1:13Speaker 1: passion is combining the psychological, physical, and spiritual to heal
- 1:18Speaker 1: trauma and facilitate personal and spiritual growth in her clients.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Her work utilizes polyvagal theory, energy psychology, and a knowledge
- 1:29Speaker 1: of the chakras and subtle energies. Her website is Cjllewellen
- 1:33Speaker 1: dot com and she joins me this week to share
- 1:36Speaker 1: her new book Chakras, The Vaguest Nerve and Your Soul,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Journeying to wellness through subtile energy and your nervous system.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Please join me in welcoming back to Destination Unlimited. CJ. Llewellyn,
- 1:52Speaker 1: Welcome back him, Victor. How have you been wonderful? Thank you,
- 1:57Speaker 1: It's so nice to have you back on again and
- 1:58Speaker 1: talk about the latest in your series, Chakras, the Vegus
- 2:02Speaker 1: Nerve and your Soul. And we're going to be getting
- 2:05Speaker 1: into that shortly, but before, for listeners meeting you for
- 2:08Speaker 1: the first time, please share your path and how it
- 2:11Speaker 1: led to your calling.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Well. I am a trauma therapist and I am also
- 2:17Speaker 2: a Reiki master. Those two paths have always been a
- 2:21Speaker 2: little integrated. I have been in private practice for about
- 2:25Speaker 2: ten years. I've been practicing as a trauma therapist for
- 2:28Speaker 2: over fifteen. I work very much with the body, helping
- 2:33Speaker 2: the body release process and release trauma, old trauma, and
- 2:37Speaker 2: I was just seeing the patterns along the vegas nerve
- 2:42Speaker 2: through polyvagel theory. I always I work with a foundation
- 2:45Speaker 2: of what we call polyvagel theory, and clients can certainly
- 2:49Speaker 2: look that up. Stephen Portis's work is changing the world.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And I would see the messaging with my clients, whether
- 2:57Speaker 2: they were processing through current traumas or have already released
- 3:02Speaker 2: and getting new information through their bodies. I was noticing
- 3:06Speaker 2: it aligning with their chakras, with the aspects of their
- 3:11Speaker 2: body that we're holding certain messages, and it was just
- 3:14Speaker 2: it was profound, and there's a lot of nerve endings
- 3:18Speaker 2: that align with these chakras, and Yogis have known this
- 3:21Speaker 2: for years. So this is all about what everybody is
- 3:25Speaker 2: I think. I hope this is where we're going in
- 3:28Speaker 2: the world, where we are finally integrating science and what
- 3:32Speaker 2: we would call spirituality, the etheric, the intuitive. So very
- 3:39Speaker 2: excited to be part of this journey and to be
- 3:42Speaker 2: part of the messaging on this journey.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Your bio also shares that you are a traditional reiki master.
- 3:49Speaker 1: How did reiki grace your life and how do you
- 3:51Speaker 1: use it in your practice?
- 3:54Speaker 2: So I do not use when I'm working traditionally with
- 3:57Speaker 2: a client. I do not actually use reiki in the
- 3:59Speaker 2: way that we would think reiki is used. When someone
- 4:03Speaker 2: comes to a reiky session, you are doing hands on,
- 4:08Speaker 2: you are utilizing the energy you are one on one
- 4:11Speaker 2: with your client. What I do is I am noticing
- 4:15Speaker 2: the energies, being attuned to the energies. I am noticing
- 4:20Speaker 2: as we're working somatically what's running through the client's bodies,
- 4:24Speaker 2: and I allow them the opportunity to tune into that message,
- 4:31Speaker 2: because if I didn't, I'd be stealing their power in
- 4:33Speaker 2: this way.
- 4:35Speaker 3: When we are.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Entering into a contract where it's hands on, that's one thing.
- 4:40Speaker 2: When we are entering into a contract where we are
- 4:43Speaker 2: deeply working through the layers of attachment messaging right from
- 4:49Speaker 2: early childhood, when we are deeply working through the layers
- 4:52Speaker 2: of what has been stored in our body, how we're
- 4:55Speaker 2: having neuro biological, physiological responses in our body. I turned
- 5:02Speaker 2: that back to them gently to help them attune to
- 5:07Speaker 2: their energy, because that's where the power lies. It's within
- 5:11Speaker 2: each of us anyway. So I am holding the space
- 5:15Speaker 2: for this energy, but I am allowing this energy for
- 5:19Speaker 2: my clients to connect to to understand their own personal
- 5:23Speaker 2: journey with it and reiki.
- 5:25Speaker 1: When it blessed my life was life changing for me.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm just curious as to how reiki came into your life.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Oh, it's life changing. I have always seen energy. I
- 5:35Speaker 2: was one of those kids. We could go on for
- 5:38Speaker 2: a long time about what I used to see as
- 5:40Speaker 2: as a child. But I've always been very attuned to
- 5:44Speaker 2: the energies. I however, didn't know that, and I think
- 5:49Speaker 2: a lot of people could probably relate to this. When
- 5:53Speaker 2: you are attuning to the things that you don't necessarily
- 5:58Speaker 2: see in a third dimensional way, you're feeling them. And
- 6:02Speaker 2: so Reikie became the construct for me to understand how
- 6:07Speaker 2: to appropriately channel energy, how to not take my other
- 6:12Speaker 2: people's energies in, and how to stay within my own,
- 6:16Speaker 2: and also how to channel right universal energy, the energy
- 6:21Speaker 2: that comes from a higher source that we just step
- 6:26Speaker 2: back and utilize through our own bodies. We take ourselves
- 6:30Speaker 2: out of the picture, but we use our bodies as
- 6:33Speaker 2: the container as the channel to help send energy to others.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So I ended up with some fantastic friends through the years.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And one of my best friends who's also does a
- 6:47Speaker 2: lot of life between life work. She's a PhD nurse.
- 6:52Speaker 2: She's now retired, so I love it because she has
- 6:54Speaker 2: this very strong science background. She became a reiki master.
- 6:58Speaker 2: She became the one twenty years ago that helped me
- 7:02Speaker 2: learn how to manage channel attuned to these energies in
- 7:07Speaker 2: a different way. And she's also created a foundation for
- 7:10Speaker 2: me with just watching her work through the Newton Institute
- 7:16Speaker 2: working with life between life regressions as well. So she
- 7:20Speaker 2: was she's one of my besties. I think she would
- 7:24Speaker 2: be very she's very humble, so she wouldn't I wouldn't
- 7:28Speaker 2: call her one of my masters, but I would definitely
- 7:31Speaker 2: say that she was one of my greatest influences when
- 7:34Speaker 2: it came to doing the energy work.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You know, I was one of those kids also growing
- 7:39Speaker 1: up in the nineteen fifties and nineteen sixties, and I
- 7:41Speaker 1: was told that I had an overactive imagination until one
- 7:45Speaker 1: day my mother confirmed everything that I had been experiencing.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Did you have the same type of thing?
- 7:50Speaker 2: I'm laughing yes, because my mother used to say, oh,
- 7:53Speaker 2: it's you and that wo woo again, you and your father.
- 7:57Speaker 2: You're just spooky. It's just it probably is the Celtic blood.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I don't know, but she used to say that all
- 8:06Speaker 2: the time to me. But it was also very accepted.
- 8:08Speaker 2: It wasn't rejecting, it was just sort of I don't
- 8:11Speaker 2: quite understand this, but I know that this is what
- 8:13Speaker 2: you do.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Absolutely in your practice you employ internal family systems therapy
- 8:21Speaker 1: and also EMDR. Please tell us about these modalities.
- 8:25Speaker 2: So EMDR's I movement desensitization, reprocessing. And I've been working
- 8:32Speaker 2: in the EMDR world since the early twenty tens. I
- 8:36Speaker 2: can't believe I'm even saying that. And that was my
- 8:40Speaker 2: first somatic experience as a therapist. I came into the
- 8:47Speaker 2: therapy world thinking I was gonna do couples work, and
- 8:51Speaker 2: I'm leaving that one to someone else. I was so
- 8:54Speaker 2: drawn to helping people with their trauma, and I became
- 8:59Speaker 2: very quick understood that there needed to be more to
- 9:02Speaker 2: this than just the talk therapy. So I'm movement desensitization
- 9:06Speaker 2: ME going back. A second was developed by a woman
- 9:09Speaker 2: who is who has since passed, but she developed this
- 9:13Speaker 2: process through noticing that she was thinking about something deeply
- 9:20Speaker 2: and her eyes were moving back and forth in a
- 9:23Speaker 2: way that mimicked rem sleep. And as all amazing modalities
- 9:30Speaker 2: experiences discoveries are founded, they're founded initially with sort of
- 9:35Speaker 2: the hypotheses of huh, I wonder if this would work
- 9:39Speaker 2: with therapy? Why am I doing this? This is remsleep?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Remsleep we are working through our unprocessed our our aspects
- 9:49Speaker 2: of ourselves that we can't even define in our dream world.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So maybe this is something that we could apply to trauma.
- 9:57Speaker 2: And she did, and through the years she developed a
- 10:02Speaker 2: protocol for trauma, and it is burgeoning now. I think
- 10:08Speaker 2: everybody that has become a therapist and understands that trauma
- 10:12Speaker 2: is not talked out has at the very least of
- 10:16Speaker 2: their foundations EMDR and even brain spotting. Brain spotting is
- 10:20Speaker 2: one of those neuro experiential models that came from EMDR,
- 10:26Speaker 2: and it uses eye movement and it's got a very
- 10:29Speaker 2: contained process to it because when you actually are working
- 10:34Speaker 2: through trauma, you don't just open the Pandora's box. I'm
- 10:38Speaker 2: very careful with my new clients to explain that to them,
- 10:42Speaker 2: because I think people come to trauma work or don't
- 10:46Speaker 2: come to trauma work because they're terrified we're just going
- 10:48Speaker 2: to rip open that Pandora's box and everything's going to
- 10:51Speaker 2: fly out. No, we just open a little bit closet
- 10:54Speaker 2: work on that one thing. And so EMDR has a
- 10:56Speaker 2: lot of protocols around that, using the eye movement and
- 11:00Speaker 2: then in terms and then from there, I realized, oh,
- 11:05Speaker 2: I still needed something else, because there's a lot of
- 11:08Speaker 2: parts that were happening, a lot of eco state parts
- 11:13Speaker 2: that were not letting me in. And so I went
- 11:17Speaker 2: and I had been noticing for years internal family systems,
- 11:20Speaker 2: and I went and got trained. And that is probably
- 11:23Speaker 2: one of the most profound modalities and structures that I
- 11:28Speaker 2: think we can put in place with therapy, because what
- 11:30Speaker 2: it does it normalizes the fact that we are all multipled.
- 11:37Speaker 2: We all have aspects, many, many personality aspects to us.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Many of these were defined early on in our lives.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Many of that you know us have parts that are
- 11:51Speaker 2: who were we when we had to go through this
- 11:52Speaker 2: particular argument with our family, Who am I now? That
- 11:56Speaker 2: I had to go to first grade and perform? So
- 11:59Speaker 2: these personalities are living in us, and these aspects of
- 12:03Speaker 2: us step forward. When our body is feeling a certain
- 12:07Speaker 2: way that has a certain somatic memory to it, they
- 12:12Speaker 2: step forward and function that. If you ever had that
- 12:15Speaker 2: conversation of oh my gosh, I don't know what got
- 12:17Speaker 2: into me. However X Y and Z I did this,
- 12:20Speaker 2: I don't normally do this. Those are parts, Those are
- 12:24Speaker 2: personality aspects of us. And some of these kids are
- 12:28Speaker 2: walking around with these burdens. This is what Richard Schwartz
- 12:32Speaker 2: refers to it as And I love the language actually
- 12:35Speaker 2: of internal family systems because it's very non blaming. And
- 12:40Speaker 2: these children are carrying the memories of the past. They've
- 12:43Speaker 2: learned something that got them through that time when we
- 12:45Speaker 2: were five or six. However, the shouting that they got
- 12:49Speaker 2: to be heard in the family when they were four
- 12:51Speaker 2: doesn't work in a board meeting now. So internal family
- 12:57Speaker 2: systems is about connecting with honoring those parts and helping
- 13:01Speaker 2: them understand. And this is where I love the spiritual
- 13:04Speaker 2: aspects of this, that there is a higher wiser energy
- 13:09Speaker 2: within us that can manage that board meeting now, that
- 13:13Speaker 2: can manage the relationship now. As these young ego state
- 13:19Speaker 2: parts connect with the empathy, the love, the kindness of
- 13:23Speaker 2: that higher wiser energy within us, this is the spiritual
- 13:27Speaker 2: This is what we all pursue. This is what I
- 13:29Speaker 2: refer to in my book as the soul. When they
- 13:32Speaker 2: connect with that energy, they understand that there's a grown
- 13:35Speaker 2: up actually in the room, in the body room, and
- 13:38Speaker 2: they can lay those old coping mechanisms down so that
- 13:42Speaker 2: they can go back to doing what they wanted to
- 13:44Speaker 2: do when they were children. And as a result, I
- 13:46Speaker 2: have found through the years the system, the body, the
- 13:50Speaker 2: ego state that is combined with the soul state that
- 13:53Speaker 2: is combined with all these working parts like our vegus
- 13:57Speaker 2: nerve that are keeping us alive as humans. We have
- 14:01Speaker 2: more play in our system. We have more kindness because
- 14:04Speaker 2: our children aren't on the ready trying to fight for us,
- 14:09Speaker 2: and they will die for us. They will fight to
- 14:12Speaker 2: the bitter end to protect us because they still think
- 14:15Speaker 2: they're fighting something from the past. And therein lies the
- 14:19Speaker 2: trauma bridge. I always say trauma is when your system,
- 14:24Speaker 2: in this case through internal family systems, when your system
- 14:29Speaker 2: cannot identify if the present is past or the past
- 14:34Speaker 2: is present. There's a time loss that happens when we
- 14:39Speaker 2: have trauma stored in our system. When these parts come
- 14:42Speaker 2: forward because it feels like they've got to they got
- 14:44Speaker 2: to be the ones that get up there and scream
- 14:47Speaker 2: or do whatever they needed to do shut us down.
- 14:52Speaker 2: When they realize that this higher, wiser aspect of us
- 14:56Speaker 2: can take over, they let the parent in the room
- 14:59Speaker 2: do the thing and they go back to playing, and
- 15:01Speaker 2: so we have more joy in our system. We have
- 15:03Speaker 2: more relaxation. I love to equate. Once we process some
- 15:09Speaker 2: trauma out of our system, it's like we open up
- 15:13Speaker 2: that window and let in fresh spring air into our
- 15:17Speaker 2: bodies and we have room, which goes to the gist
- 15:21Speaker 2: of you my major message, which is then we can
- 15:25Speaker 2: have that wisdom, that wise, soul energy within us, whatever
- 15:30Speaker 2: you want to call it, lead us. When we are
- 15:35Speaker 2: cleared within our body of the protective mechanisms that have
- 15:38Speaker 2: been keeping us in a survival cycle for so long,
- 15:43Speaker 2: we can lead the way with our soul.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Beautiful. Thank you for sharing that. That's absolutely wonderful.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 15:51Speaker 1: The last time you were on, we discussed your award
- 15:54Speaker 1: winning book, Chakras and the Vegus Nerve, Tap into the
- 15:58Speaker 1: healing combination of energy and your nervous system. What inspired
- 16:03Speaker 1: that book and what did you share with readers?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Oh, thank you for asking that, because this is this
- 16:09Speaker 2: goes back to what you and I were talking about
- 16:11Speaker 2: in regards to reading the energy and having this reiki
- 16:14Speaker 2: foundation and having this understanding of Polyvagel theory, which, by
- 16:19Speaker 2: the way, Polyvagel theory posits that it is our vagus
- 16:24Speaker 2: nerve that not just automatically keeps everything functioning. A heart
- 16:30Speaker 2: beating or lungs breathing, our digestion going. But it also
- 16:34Speaker 2: is reading the room. It's also listening for danger. It's
- 16:40Speaker 2: also what allows us to connect through the three branches,
- 16:45Speaker 2: the ventral vagel connection branch, the safety branch, the sympathetic branch,
- 16:50Speaker 2: the dorsal vagel immobility branch. So having this in mind,
- 16:57Speaker 2: watching within client's body how they are working through their
- 17:03Speaker 2: trauma and connecting, I went, oh, my gosh, a majority,
- 17:08Speaker 2: not all, but a majority. The messaging was through the
- 17:12Speaker 2: torso and aligning with the chakras, the seven main chakras.
- 17:17Speaker 2: And I had this work in my head for years
- 17:19Speaker 2: and I think we've discussed the last time. I think
- 17:22Speaker 2: two years ago. I was on the last time. I thought,
- 17:24Speaker 2: oh my gosh, I've got to write a book about this.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But breaking that down a little bit, when you're looking
- 17:29Speaker 2: at the root chakra and you have felt sense, you
- 17:33Speaker 2: have felt memory, but you don't have what they call
- 17:38Speaker 2: explicit memory, So in other words, you don't have chronological memory.
- 17:42Speaker 2: You don't you're feeling and knowing from childhood. It's in
- 17:49Speaker 2: your body. It may have been related to traumas from
- 17:54Speaker 2: the waist down that becomes the energy and the information
- 17:58Speaker 2: in the root chakra. Then then I would watch people
- 18:03Speaker 2: feeling a lot of memory and just having information that
- 18:08Speaker 2: came up through the sacral chakra. That is the chakra
- 18:12Speaker 2: that seems to be really connected to early childhood attachment,
- 18:18Speaker 2: how we learn early to connect, how we learn early
- 18:21Speaker 2: to connect through the messaging and and our family, but
- 18:25Speaker 2: also in our body. And so a lot of the
- 18:30Speaker 2: information that people would pull in from early childhood about
- 18:35Speaker 2: how they connected in ways that were helpful or not helpful,
- 18:39Speaker 2: or painful or calming, seem to have a messaging process
- 18:47Speaker 2: around their sacral chakra, which is kind of near the
- 18:49Speaker 2: belly button. Then you talk about identity, you talk about
- 18:53Speaker 2: internal family systems. We're talking about that solar plexus of
- 18:58Speaker 2: the mind, the identity that is that part of us
- 19:02Speaker 2: that just ends up burning sometimes right the charge they
- 19:08Speaker 2: got to get out there in the world, got to
- 19:10Speaker 2: present myself. Those are the ego parts of us. And
- 19:13Speaker 2: ego is not bad. We need identity. You need Victor Furman,
- 19:19Speaker 2: the identity the person that has been putting himself forward.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I need C. J. Llewellen, the person that's putting myself forward.
- 19:26Speaker 2: So we need identity. It's just when our identities get
- 19:30Speaker 2: so burdened and so caught up in the world that
- 19:35Speaker 2: this becomes the only identity we have. So with that,
- 19:38Speaker 2: a lot of that gets felt in the solar plexus.
- 19:41Speaker 2: When you get up into the heart chakra, you're getting
- 19:43Speaker 2: up into that safety branch of the vagus nerve. Right,
- 19:47Speaker 2: everybody loves the heart chakra. But by the way, everybody
- 19:51Speaker 2: loves the heart chakra because the ventral vagual branch of
- 19:56Speaker 2: our vagus nerve starts slowing our heart rate down, our
- 20:01Speaker 2: beats between beat, that heart rate variability starts slowing down,
- 20:05Speaker 2: our blood pressure lower. Suddenly we are feeling safer and
- 20:08Speaker 2: calmer as we get up into speaking. Maybe we didn't
- 20:13Speaker 2: feel safe, maybe our voice didn't feel heard, Maybe we
- 20:17Speaker 2: were told just plain old, don't talk. What you have
- 20:21Speaker 2: to say isn't worthy. As you begin to process out
- 20:25Speaker 2: those old messages, those old traumas, whatever they were in
- 20:28Speaker 2: your system, however they applied meaning in your system to you,
- 20:33Speaker 2: you are able to open up, you are able to speak,
- 20:36Speaker 2: You are feeling safe enough to speak, which of course
- 20:38Speaker 2: relates back down to the heart. And then I've noticed
- 20:43Speaker 2: that as we would continue to clear out and process trauma.
- 20:47Speaker 2: The third eye would shift to more meaning, more symbolism,
- 20:51Speaker 2: more symbolic what we would consider spiritual aspects unless of
- 20:56Speaker 2: the actual physical images that we would we get from
- 21:03Speaker 2: early childhood trauma. So then we are able to really
- 21:06Speaker 2: kind of feel a little bit more freer in our
- 21:08Speaker 2: crown chakra at the top of our head, which you
- 21:12Speaker 2: know aligns with the fontinel right when we were children,
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm six years older than my brother. I remember my
- 21:17Speaker 2: mother saying, don't touch a soft spot. So that is
- 21:23Speaker 2: how I started to just see the alignment with the chakras,
- 21:27Speaker 2: the messaging, and of course, as I said, it's not
- 21:29Speaker 2: completely limited to these seven chakras. But when I work
- 21:34Speaker 2: with clients, I hold the space for them. I don't
- 21:37Speaker 2: ask them what chakra this is, because that takes them
- 21:40Speaker 2: out of the actual somatic process, that takes them out
- 21:44Speaker 2: of the felt experience, and it puts them into their brain.
- 21:47Speaker 2: It puts them into that left brain that explicit memory.
- 21:51Speaker 2: The explicit memory comes into our mind our brain. Our
- 21:55Speaker 2: brain starts developing the ability to remember dates and times
- 21:59Speaker 2: and places as when we're about three, but we have
- 22:02Speaker 2: a lot of previous experience that we are storing in
- 22:05Speaker 2: our bodies prior to that time. So when we can
- 22:10Speaker 2: trust the felt experience, even when it doesn't make sense
- 22:14Speaker 2: to the brain, we can open for possibilities of healing
- 22:20Speaker 2: that we probably never even thought of before. I answer
- 22:26Speaker 2: your question because I kind of went off on No.

- 24:35Speaker 1: Back on Destination Unlimited. My guest this week CJ. Llewellyn
- 24:40Speaker 1: her new book Chakras, The Vagus Nerve and Your soul
- 24:44Speaker 1: journeying to wellness through subtle energy and your nervous system CJ.
- 24:50Speaker 1: What inspired this wonderful new book.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Well, I kind of wasn't done it the first one.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I mentioned in the first one, how I genuinely see
- 25:03Speaker 2: our higher wiser soul spirit energy, however you want to
- 25:07Speaker 2: refer to it as. And I get very open about
- 25:10Speaker 2: the terminology of this, because I think it's more of
- 25:12Speaker 2: a applied experience. Soul has some religious connotations for some
- 25:18Speaker 2: people that they're not comfortable with, and others absolutely feel
- 25:22Speaker 2: very comfortable with that more hellenistic use of the word.
- 25:25Speaker 2: But I just I started to really see that when
- 25:35Speaker 2: we are able to clear the memory data sets, sometimes
- 25:40Speaker 2: I refer to that as data sets, there's trauma responses
- 25:44Speaker 2: as memory data sets in our nervous system. People change
- 25:51Speaker 2: their own way of being in the world. Sometimes that's
- 25:55Speaker 2: their own way of looking at things. There seems to
- 25:58Speaker 2: be more applied empathy. There seems to be just a wider,
- 26:03Speaker 2: softer range, that's soft but powerful range, that's that soul energy.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And so I've been watching through the years, and by
- 26:13Speaker 2: the way, I've had my own I do my own
- 26:14Speaker 2: trauma work, you know, we're we're all not without having
- 26:19Speaker 2: some of those data sets that hold us back, right,
- 26:22Speaker 2: but they're there to protect us, by the way. So
- 26:25Speaker 2: I just kind of wanted to explore a little deeper
- 26:27Speaker 2: the aspect of how our soul, light, our energy is
- 26:34Speaker 2: driving the machine of our body when our soul leaves
- 26:42Speaker 2: the body. And you know, we were just talking, and
- 26:45Speaker 2: I appreciate you sharing that with me, you know, the
- 26:48Speaker 2: passing of your mom and the experience around that. When
- 26:51Speaker 2: the soul leaves the body, our nervous system doesn't function,
- 26:56Speaker 2: doesn't perceive, doesn't doesn't work. Our organs do not function
- 27:01Speaker 2: any longer. So the soul is the energy. It is
- 27:04Speaker 2: the if you will, the gas. Sometimes when I have
- 27:08Speaker 2: that conversation with people, using a car metaphor works. It's
- 27:14Speaker 2: the journey, right, We need the vehicle to have the
- 27:17Speaker 2: journey our essence takes on this vehicle for whatever reason
- 27:24Speaker 2: the essence wants, from whatever experience the essence wants. But
- 27:28Speaker 2: along the way we get tripped up. We have to,
- 27:34Speaker 2: like if it's our car, we have to do tune ups,
- 27:37Speaker 2: we have to clean. I don't know, are there spark
- 27:39Speaker 2: plugs in the car anymore? I don't even know how
- 27:41Speaker 2: the cars are made anymore. But we have to clean
- 27:44Speaker 2: out the sparks, spark plugs, we have to clean out
- 27:46Speaker 2: the air filter. Right, we have to keep our engine running.
- 27:52Speaker 2: We are not our car, right, our car. Our body
- 27:56Speaker 2: is the vehicle by which this light energy gauges with
- 28:01Speaker 2: this world. And I think I realized I have a
- 28:07Speaker 2: pet peeve is too strong of a word, but I
- 28:09Speaker 2: do have a strong leaning into the argument. I lean
- 28:16Speaker 2: into the argument that while we are here, it isn't
- 28:20Speaker 2: a there's no dualism in this spirit is not good,
- 28:24Speaker 2: body is not bad. And I see that a lot
- 28:28Speaker 2: within a lot of our spiritual communities. No, no, we
- 28:30Speaker 2: want to go spiritual. We don't like this stuff of
- 28:32Speaker 2: our body. But what we do then is we become dissociated.
- 28:36Speaker 2: We're not connecting with our body. We're not listening to
- 28:40Speaker 2: what the messages of the body want. We are here
- 28:43Speaker 2: in this vehicle to have whatever very unique experience our
- 28:51Speaker 2: soul energy wants to have. And there's probably one point
- 28:57Speaker 2: none of us can argue you take any theology out
- 29:00Speaker 2: of this. We come into this world this light. You know,
- 29:04Speaker 2: we have a light in our body, because when it
- 29:06Speaker 2: isn't there our body doesn't function, and then we leave
- 29:09Speaker 2: this world and we leave behind this the structure that
- 29:13Speaker 2: we used. So, you know, us humans put a lot
- 29:17Speaker 2: of meaning and theology and absolutes in between that. But
- 29:23Speaker 2: whatever this light is here for if we can just
- 29:27Speaker 2: keep our our engine thrumbing, our engine working, and that
- 29:32Speaker 2: that also not only just goes to the making sure
- 29:35Speaker 2: that we are psychologically sound with working through these traumas,
- 29:41Speaker 2: knowing what our old patterns are so we can heal them,
- 29:44Speaker 2: shift them, but keeping our bodies healthy. In this book,
- 29:50Speaker 2: I get a little bit now. I am not I
- 29:52Speaker 2: am a licensed professional counselor with a lot of foundation
- 29:56Speaker 2: in polyvagel theory and a couple of other things. So
- 29:59Speaker 2: I've learned how and and the body is affected emotionally
- 30:07Speaker 2: and medically and to listen in that regard, but I'm
- 30:09Speaker 2: not a medical professional. However, it's really apparent that when
- 30:15Speaker 2: we also do not take care of our physical selves,
- 30:19Speaker 2: our emotional self collapses, and then we can't access that
- 30:26Speaker 2: deeper light within us. We cannot access our soul. Our
- 30:30Speaker 2: soul can't lead the way the you know, when when
- 30:34Speaker 2: our car breaks down, we don't think about our car
- 30:36Speaker 2: running except for when it doesn't, then then it becomes
- 30:41Speaker 2: a priority. So I do just touch upon very very
- 30:48Speaker 2: basic aspects of how we can get problems with our
- 30:53Speaker 2: vegas nerve, because that vegus nerve, boy, it is our soul,
- 30:57Speaker 2: It is our wisdom nerve. It is what keeps us going.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It is the main, the main programming that runs our vehicle.
- 31:07Speaker 2: When our vagus nerve is not cared for, our information
- 31:12Speaker 2: that we gather also becomes its skews. We get skewed.
- 31:20Speaker 2: So it is important for us to do the physical
- 31:24Speaker 2: health work, the psychological health work, and that allows for
- 31:27Speaker 2: the spiritual health work as well. So we can't we
- 31:31Speaker 2: can't discard our human experience. We're here for this. We
- 31:34Speaker 2: you know, tell our Dejarden we're here. We are spiritual
- 31:39Speaker 2: beings having a human experience. So that's where I kind
- 31:43Speaker 2: of really just wanted to emphasize and bring in some
- 31:46Speaker 2: of my own experiences around a very brief, temporary thing
- 31:54Speaker 2: where my own vegas nerve got a little over stressed,
- 31:57Speaker 2: and how I work through some of this stuff too.
- 31:59Speaker 2: It's not this book is so not about me, but
- 32:02Speaker 2: I just thought thought I would bring in that one
- 32:04Speaker 2: in that chapter. One of my personal experiences. So yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 2: that's how I got started. I wasn't done.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Absolutely. Now, your car analogy is very interesting because you
- 32:14Speaker 1: refer to this book as a travel guide.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yep, yep, it absolutely is, because this is why we're here.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Anybody listening to your podcast has at least an innate
- 32:28Speaker 2: sense that they are on a journey. But it is
- 32:31Speaker 2: not an either or journey. It is it is a
- 32:37Speaker 2: collective journey between the human experience and the soulful experience.
- 32:44Speaker 2: And you know, we don't know what it is. There
- 32:47Speaker 2: are aspects of this we will individually not know until
- 32:51Speaker 2: we go back to where we came from.
- 32:55Speaker 1: And you share with readers that they should be curious
- 32:59Speaker 1: in their travels. What is the importance of curiosity on
- 33:02Speaker 1: this journey?
- 33:04Speaker 2: Well, I always say that the Buddhists had this right,
- 33:08Speaker 2: and if we could follow some fundamental mindful principles, curiosity
- 33:14Speaker 2: takes judgment out of our process, just noticing, just being curious. Hah,
- 33:22Speaker 2: have this pain in my back, I'm just going to
- 33:25Speaker 2: be curious with it instead of Oh, I have this
- 33:27Speaker 2: pain in my back and I want it to go
- 33:28Speaker 2: away now, because that creates more pain. Being curious about
- 33:33Speaker 2: our sadness, just holding the space to be curious about
- 33:37Speaker 2: the experience of sad or the you know again, the
- 33:40Speaker 2: curiosity sometimes of pain in our body leads us to
- 33:46Speaker 2: the softness of our emotion. It may have a filter
- 33:50Speaker 2: of some old experiences that we might need to process
- 33:54Speaker 2: through that we might be afraid of reliving. That if
- 33:57Speaker 2: we can lead our lives through curiosity, we take out
- 34:02Speaker 2: that very I would say, on some level highly negative
- 34:07Speaker 2: human experience of judgment, right that sometimes we apply these
- 34:12Speaker 2: things as humans that really don't help us along our path,
- 34:16Speaker 2: and judgment is one of them. Judgment is a preconceived notion.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Judgment has an absolute to it, judgment of self, judgment
- 34:24Speaker 2: of others that doesn't get us anywhere. You know, being
- 34:28Speaker 2: curious allows us to discern versus judge. Judge, you hit
- 34:37Speaker 2: using the journey analysis, you know, metaphor you hit the
- 34:42Speaker 2: dead end when you judge, when you discern. When you
- 34:46Speaker 2: are curious, you are open to new roads and you
- 34:50Speaker 2: may be a little afraid, but you're still being curious
- 34:55Speaker 2: along the way, and it may lead you to someplace
- 34:58Speaker 2: you have never ever than before that you couldn't even
- 35:02Speaker 2: imagine and is so spectacular, But along the way. We
- 35:06Speaker 2: have to just stay curious and not let judgment, not
- 35:09Speaker 2: let fear, and not let some you know, some of
- 35:11Speaker 2: those limiting beliefs stop us on this journey that we've
- 35:16Speaker 2: got going on here.
- 35:18Speaker 1: You know, it's interesting. Eugene I on Esco I'm the paraphrase,
- 35:21Speaker 1: said that enlightenment starts with the question, not the answer.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Absolutely, absolutely, And if you want to look at the
- 35:30Speaker 2: difference maybe perhaps between our physical selves and that eternal
- 35:35Speaker 2: light self, the light is nothing but a question. Our
- 35:40Speaker 2: internal light is nothing more than curiosity.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Absolutely. With each chapter you offer readers exercises to follow,
- 35:50Speaker 1: please tell us a little about these exercises and what
- 35:53Speaker 1: they may learn from them.
- 35:55Speaker 2: So in the first book, I do a lot. I
- 35:58Speaker 2: do a lot of exercises that I utilize in my
- 36:01Speaker 2: work with clients, which is breaking down the concept of
- 36:05Speaker 2: top down processing, which is thought, explicit memory and utilizing
- 36:12Speaker 2: maybe language and words to send information down but bottom up, right,
- 36:19Speaker 2: our nervous system has felt, experience, has perception, has images
- 36:26Speaker 2: symbols that sometimes the mind doesn't doesn't like the dubiousness
- 36:33Speaker 2: of that, right, So I do a lot of I
- 36:36Speaker 2: try to do a lot of bottom up on both
- 36:39Speaker 2: in both books, but this book, I do a lot
- 36:42Speaker 2: of allowing for different movements, to just be curious with
- 36:51Speaker 2: the experience that's happening within your body. I'm I actually
- 36:57Speaker 2: did a lot of my own meditation on my own health,
- 37:05Speaker 2: and I then saw a few of these experience exercises,
- 37:12Speaker 2: I should say, and then I worked on them myself
- 37:15Speaker 2: and I actually found some relief. But again those don't
- 37:18Speaker 2: have the validity that something like IFS or EMDR has
- 37:21Speaker 2: where there's thirty years of research. Some of the things
- 37:25Speaker 2: that I bring to the table in this book are
- 37:27Speaker 2: very intuitive, but I also offer that listen to and
- 37:32Speaker 2: there's a lot of this in this book, listen to
- 37:35Speaker 2: your own intuition, and I offer some exercises in this
- 37:40Speaker 2: new book about how to listen to your own personal experience.
- 37:46Speaker 2: What do you need? We never asked that question. I
- 37:49Speaker 2: asked that question in my sessions, and I will ask
- 37:53Speaker 2: that with clients I've worked with for years, what do
- 37:56Speaker 2: you need? And I still get that deer in the
- 38:00Speaker 2: headlight look because we don't stop enough to ask that
- 38:04Speaker 2: question for ourselves. So a lot of these exercises, I
- 38:07Speaker 2: hope we'll bring people down to being able to ask
- 38:10Speaker 2: that question for themselves.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You know, it's funny. When I was training salespeople in
- 38:15Speaker 1: the industry that I was involved with for forty four years,
- 38:18Speaker 1: one of the questions that I would ask them is
- 38:21Speaker 1: what does the customer really want? Which basically is the
- 38:23Speaker 1: same thing as what you need, and it's something that
- 38:26Speaker 1: people don't think about. They go for sometimes the quick answer,
- 38:29Speaker 1: the quick sale in the case of sales, but not
- 38:33Speaker 1: really the overall picture of what the outcome can be
- 38:36Speaker 1: if you truly look at what they truly.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Need, right, And we were driven by it, which is
- 38:43Speaker 2: really kind of funny if you think about it. We're
- 38:45Speaker 2: driven by that and sometimes we don't differentiate between our want, yeah,
- 38:49Speaker 2: versus our need, but we are still driven by it.
- 38:52Speaker 2: We still act from it, but we haven't slowed down
- 38:56Speaker 2: enough to integrate the answer, you know, to ask the
- 39:01Speaker 2: question so that we can really genuinely integrate an answer
- 39:04Speaker 2: to it. We're just constantly driven. We're constantly what do
- 39:07Speaker 2: we need? What do we need? What do I want?
- 39:08Speaker 2: What do I want? But we never actually ask the question,
- 39:11Speaker 2: so we're what would you say, you're driven by the
- 39:13Speaker 2: question more than the answer or no, you're driven by
- 39:17Speaker 2: the answer more than the question, but you haven't really
- 39:18Speaker 2: defined the answer correct.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Absolutely. One of the exercises that you offer is called
- 39:24Speaker 1: Earth to Sky zip. What is it? How does it work?
- 39:28Speaker 2: I love this exercise and it's taken from the movement
- 39:33Speaker 2: of Chikong, which I'm starting to get very intrigued by
- 39:37Speaker 2: and want to study more. And if you're in a
- 39:42Speaker 2: safe place, do this. If you're driving, do not do this.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Just as an experiment. Imagine yourself from your crown all
- 39:49Speaker 2: the way down to your root chakra. Just do an
- 39:52Speaker 2: unzip like imagine there's a zipper there and just do
- 39:54Speaker 2: an unzip now, just you could be You don't even
- 40:00Speaker 2: have to touch your ground. Right now, do a zip up,
- 40:04Speaker 2: zip up from the root from your lap all the
- 40:07Speaker 2: way up your mid to or so to the top
- 40:09Speaker 2: of your crown. And notice how you feel. I haven't
- 40:16Speaker 2: said every time I do this as somebody, they say,
- 40:19Speaker 2: I feel more contained, I feel more grounded. I feel
- 40:22Speaker 2: less like I'm flying, like my energy is falling apart.
- 40:27Speaker 2: So when we can do that, especially outside, if we
- 40:31Speaker 2: can do that outside, we don't have to be outside.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Imagine reaching down to the ground, right, pulling the energy
- 40:38Speaker 2: from the earth, pulling it all the way up between
- 40:41Speaker 2: your legs like a zipper, big zipper that's been unzipped.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Pull it up up up through your legs, over your
- 40:48Speaker 2: root chakra, your sacral your solar plexus, your heart, your throat,
- 40:52Speaker 2: all the way up to the ground, all the way
- 40:53Speaker 2: up to the top of your head. And I actually
- 40:56Speaker 2: will as I'm talking it. I'm doing this. No one
- 40:59Speaker 2: can see me. I'm extending my arm outward. I zip
- 41:02Speaker 2: way up to where my arm is extended, and it's
- 41:06Speaker 2: just such a grounding experience. I bring that all and
- 41:12Speaker 2: I bring these things, by the way into my into
- 41:15Speaker 2: my therapy practice. These are the things that I also
- 41:18Speaker 2: allow my clients to really work with their subtle energies
- 41:21Speaker 2: in that regard. So did you try it, Victor? While
- 41:25Speaker 2: I was describing it, I'm still there. You do, and
- 41:32Speaker 2: if you're feeling out of sorts, do that. I'm telling
- 41:34Speaker 2: you it is fantastic.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Absolutely, that earthing aspect is very important.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Also, yes, yes, I do mention earthing, and I forgot
- 41:42Speaker 2: I mentioned earthing in the book. I live in the city,
- 41:45Speaker 2: but I had to have some property behind me, so
- 41:48Speaker 2: I've found my new house has a lovely backyard, smacked
- 41:51Speaker 2: out in the city. So I hit both my extroverted
- 41:54Speaker 2: aspects where I can get out, walk around, see my neighbors,
- 41:57Speaker 2: you know, do my little community thing, and then I
- 41:59Speaker 2: can I'm home and I lay on my grass the
- 42:03Speaker 2: earthing just I mean, there's studies that are being done.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Heartmouth has been doing a lot of studies in this
- 42:11Speaker 2: regard as to how we pull in the energy from
- 42:14Speaker 2: the earth, and we need this for our bodies. We are,
- 42:18Speaker 2: our bodies are of this earth, and we need that grounding,
- 42:23Speaker 2: We need that connection.
- 42:25Speaker 1: My guest is CJ. Llewell in her new book Chakras,

- 43:36Speaker 1: Back on Destination Unlimited. My guest this week CJ. Llewellyn
- 43:40Speaker 1: her new book Chakras, The Vegas Nerve and Your Soul. CJ.
- 43:46Speaker 1: How do the chakras interface with the vegas nerve?
- 43:51Speaker 2: So we have end points if you think of it
- 43:55Speaker 2: that way or not. Naughties excuse me, naughties are more
- 43:59Speaker 2: of a I can do uh wiring of the chakras
- 44:06Speaker 2: going upward. But we have endpoints to our nervous system
- 44:12Speaker 2: and where, and of course we have by the way,
- 44:15Speaker 2: we have hundreds of chakras throughout our body because we
- 44:18Speaker 2: have hundreds of thousands of nerve endings as well. But
- 44:22Speaker 2: the ancients seem to believe that these were nerve endings,
- 44:26Speaker 2: but they didn't have access, They didn't have the scientific
- 44:30Speaker 2: equipment that we have now for these nerve endings to
- 44:34Speaker 2: be viewed. But they end up we end up with
- 44:39Speaker 2: some different points where our nervous system ends. And I
- 44:46Speaker 2: have always maintained that this is where this is. This
- 44:50Speaker 2: is how I break it down in the book. Our
- 44:52Speaker 2: soul energy is what's charging our nervous system. It just is, because,
- 44:56Speaker 2: as we discussed in our last segment, when our soul
- 44:59Speaker 2: and our lightly this body, our bodies just nothing more
- 45:03Speaker 2: than a mass. So it is charging through the nervous
- 45:07Speaker 2: system almost like electricity goes through wiring in our house.
- 45:13Speaker 2: And when it does that, it certainly does not end
- 45:17Speaker 2: at the end points of these nerves. It extends outward,
- 45:23Speaker 2: and where the nerve centers are a little bit more condensed,
- 45:27Speaker 2: we end up with these these energy centers called chakras,
- 45:31Speaker 2: which you know from the Sanskrit view of the world
- 45:36Speaker 2: that that's where our energy centers are that are felt
- 45:39Speaker 2: more intensely. However, these expand outward. I don't even get
- 45:42Speaker 2: into aras because I'm giving enough, I'm giving too many
- 45:47Speaker 2: layers in the book not too many layers, but I'm
- 45:48Speaker 2: giving a lot of layers in the book to begin with.
- 45:50Speaker 2: So we end up with this energy that extends outward
- 45:56Speaker 2: along the way, our soul energy through this conversation with
- 46:02Speaker 2: the chakras, through the charging of the chakras, those data
- 46:07Speaker 2: sets that have been set within our nervous system are
- 46:11Speaker 2: also combining with this energy center. So when we talk
- 46:16Speaker 2: about how people talk about, oh, I have to open
- 46:20Speaker 2: up this chakra or the chakras carrying this or that,
- 46:22Speaker 2: it's actually from the inside out job right, Because we
- 46:27Speaker 2: may be holding onto memories from early childhood that we
- 46:31Speaker 2: feel or may be perceived as the root chakra is blocked,
- 46:36Speaker 2: But what we might be holding on to is trauma
- 46:39Speaker 2: around the dorsal veagel complex, around the sympathetic complex that
- 46:44Speaker 2: reach down into the sereum. I'm trying not to get
- 46:46Speaker 2: to sciencey here that need to be processed through other
- 46:53Speaker 2: avenues beyond just the energy work. So that then when
- 46:59Speaker 2: we should lift our nervous system, when we clear trauma
- 47:03Speaker 2: from our bodies, when we move in ways that allow
- 47:08Speaker 2: these memories and these experiences to reform in different safer ways,
- 47:15Speaker 2: our chakras, our energy centers shift. They shift naturally. We
- 47:23Speaker 2: can do energy work from the outside in, but the
- 47:28Speaker 2: permanent shifts come from that inside out because that's where
- 47:33Speaker 2: that's the data sets. That's what I mean. It's not
- 47:35Speaker 2: an official term. I'm using that to help people develop
- 47:39Speaker 2: a sense of image here, but that's where the data
- 47:43Speaker 2: sets hold on too, images and experiences that extend outward
- 47:50Speaker 2: into our etheric realm. The etheric realm being the energy
- 47:54Speaker 2: that we feel, the energy that we feel from other
- 47:56Speaker 2: people as they're just simply standing next to them, the
- 47:59Speaker 2: energy that walks in the room before we do.
- 48:02Speaker 1: What is the importance of breath work on this journey?
- 48:06Speaker 2: So during breath work obviously intuitive we've known from the
- 48:11Speaker 2: beginning of time that breath work is important. What breath
- 48:15Speaker 2: work does is it can engage the nervous system in
- 48:22Speaker 2: ways that are very invigorating. That engages sympathetic nervous you know,
- 48:29Speaker 2: the nervous system in a sympathetic way that is safe.
- 48:32Speaker 2: But also on the exhale, we are slowing down the
- 48:37Speaker 2: heart rate, right those beats between beats get longer. There
- 48:41Speaker 2: is safety that becomes more established within the system. Our
- 48:46Speaker 2: engagement with slowing down the breath slows down, as we
- 48:50Speaker 2: were talking earlier, the blood pressure, it slows everything down
- 48:57Speaker 2: to send messages of safety and engagement with the safety
- 49:02Speaker 2: branch of the vagus nerve. So breath work is very important.
- 49:06Speaker 2: When we are stressed and we're only breathing from the
- 49:09Speaker 2: top of our lungs, this branch, the safety branch of
- 49:13Speaker 2: our vegus nerve, is not getting that full message that
- 49:17Speaker 2: we're okay. Because when we're not, when we're having to run, right,
- 49:22Speaker 2: we're having to run from from the tiger, we're having
- 49:25Speaker 2: to run from a scary person that's running after us,
- 49:30Speaker 2: We're not to sit there and breathe deeply. We're suppose
- 49:33Speaker 2: our body shifts into more sympathetic engagement. We get shorter breasts,
- 49:37Speaker 2: our muscles tighten, blood gets you know, the blood pressure
- 49:42Speaker 2: pushes through our muscles a lot harder and faster because
- 49:45Speaker 2: our muscles are tightened because we are engaged to move,
- 49:48Speaker 2: we are engaged to run, and we are engaged to
- 49:52Speaker 2: keep ourselves safe. In that way, fight here, the fight
- 49:55Speaker 2: or flight response is afterwards. The the deeper breath work
- 50:01Speaker 2: can come in once we're safe as well, because then
- 50:03Speaker 2: we start sending safety queues. Back into the system. So
- 50:08Speaker 2: if we're not thinking, if we're thinking in a way
- 50:11Speaker 2: talking about judgment, we're thinking in ways that are judgmental
- 50:15Speaker 2: of self or others. Right there, our brain is sending
- 50:18Speaker 2: cues to our body that we're not safe. Well, this
- 50:21Speaker 2: person is this, that person is this. We have to
- 50:25Speaker 2: that person believes this, So we're not safe with this person.
- 50:28Speaker 2: None of this is a fact, but it registers in
- 50:32Speaker 2: the nervous system in the vegas nerve is a fact.
- 50:36Speaker 2: And if so and so wasn't safe because they don't
- 50:38Speaker 2: believe what we believe, Well, there we are. We're off
- 50:40Speaker 2: to the races, and we are thinking. We're engaging our
- 50:43Speaker 2: sympathetic branches, our movement, our fight branches. We're tight. Of course,
- 50:48Speaker 2: we're sitting in our office typing away. We are sending
- 50:52Speaker 2: mixed signals to our body. So knowing our thoughts how
- 50:57Speaker 2: they affect and send messages down that top down processing
- 51:02Speaker 2: we were talking about earlier, how they affect our system
- 51:05Speaker 2: is vital to our own reality, our own engagement in
- 51:09Speaker 2: the world, our own health physical that actually mental is physical.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Mental psychological is a physical health as well.
- 51:21Speaker 1: And how does this reflect in the body to soul approach.
- 51:26Speaker 2: So when we are feeling safe, we are able to
- 51:30Speaker 2: access that light. When we are feeling that we have
- 51:35Speaker 2: to run from I'm trying to think of it. You know,
- 51:38Speaker 2: the lion that escapes from the zoo. We just got
- 51:42Speaker 2: to get the heck out of there. We have to
- 51:45Speaker 2: run and climb up that tree or jump into the car.
- 51:49Speaker 2: This is when we have to become a very human experience.
- 51:55Speaker 2: This is when our nervous system says, none of this
- 51:58Speaker 2: stuff matters. None of this stuff is going to matter
- 52:00Speaker 2: until you get yourself into a safe place. So that
- 52:04Speaker 2: is that that leaning in and leaning out of the
- 52:07Speaker 2: human experience. You're you know, you're not going to sit
- 52:11Speaker 2: there and continue to meditate when an angry lion is
- 52:14Speaker 2: running after you to attack you. You're going to find
- 52:17Speaker 2: a way out of that situation. So being able once
- 52:23Speaker 2: you are safe, first of all, having your body identify safety.
- 52:28Speaker 2: This is part of the trauma work. This is part
- 52:31Speaker 2: of what I help my clients with is pulling in
- 52:35Speaker 2: actual cues of physical safety when they are actually safe,
- 52:41Speaker 2: but their mind might not believe it is so queuing
- 52:45Speaker 2: the body differently, allowing for safety to integrate into the system,
- 52:51Speaker 2: allows the body to come enough and then that light
- 52:54Speaker 2: is in there.
- 52:57Speaker 1: And as you share, you have a very eum titled chapter.
- 53:01Speaker 1: What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas if you're not careful.
- 53:06Speaker 2: It's the whole reason I wrote that book is so
- 53:08Speaker 2: that I could actually use that title.
- 53:12Speaker 1: And of course we're not talking about Las Vegas.
- 53:14Speaker 2: We're talking about now it's a vagus. Yeah, yeah, I'm
- 53:23Speaker 2: glad they let me use that title for that that
- 53:26Speaker 2: chapter because I say that all the time to my clients. Look,
- 53:29Speaker 2: what happens in your Vegas stays in near Vegas because
- 53:34Speaker 2: our nervous system is brilliant, It is smart. It is
- 53:38Speaker 2: reading the room, it is looking for cues, and it
- 53:40Speaker 2: has been before we were born. Right, if our parents
- 53:44Speaker 2: were arguing, if there was a lot of volatility, our
- 53:48Speaker 2: nervous system already getting programmed for that, because it's feeling right,
- 53:52Speaker 2: it's feeling the nervous system of the mother's it's picking
- 53:55Speaker 2: up these cues, it's establishing what's to come. So it's
- 54:00Speaker 2: already in there. What happens in Vegas, what gets programmed
- 54:04Speaker 2: in stays there until we are aware that it is
- 54:08Speaker 2: programmed there. Then we have full freedom and capacity and
- 54:12Speaker 2: opportunities to shift this and work differently, and that's the
- 54:17Speaker 2: honoring of the body as part of the spiritual process.
- 54:20Speaker 1: By the way, my guest CJ. Llewellen her brand new
