- 1:34This is Ben Stacy partner. Oh, hi Stacey. We'll be docking at
- 1:38the car in an hour or so. Now, yeah, I know,
- 1:41don't forget. I'm gonna show you and helen around the town. Okay,
- 1:45I'll be ready, say Dollar, that was a little excitement we had aboard
- 1:49ship last night. Huh at Stewart who fell overboard? That's putting it politely.
- 1:53What do you mean? I think he got pushed tonight and every weekday
- 2:05night. Bob Bailey and the Transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action Pact
- 2:08expenscoud America's Fabulous Freelance Insurance Investigator, Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar from Special Investigator
- 2:27Johnny Dollar. Location at sea on the Southern Empress Our ruled Cape Town to
- 2:30Dakar to the home office Tri Eastern Intemnity Associates Assignment The Star of Cape Town
- 2:36matter expense account concluded adam twelve fifty cents room service on two aspirins. Right
- 2:47from the start, this whole deal had been a series of headaches at Ache
- 2:51one Andrew Forbes, international playboy and owner of the Star of Cape Town ensured
- 2:54for one hundred and fifty thousand bucks. Fores was tossing that stone around like
- 2:59it was a chief toy. He wound up murdered, the diamond missing.
- 3:02Forbes' this probable killer, Julio Biock, was in a Cape Town jail at
- 3:07the moment, but his confederate was still on the loose. The steward who
- 3:10could have told me who the confederate was had been fished out of the drink
- 3:13dead last night. Now we were going ashore at the car, and whoever
- 3:17had that diamond could make it hard for me to find. It could be
- 3:21Stacy, the boy from the Wide Open Spaces. It could be Helen,
- 3:23traveling companion to Agatha Forbes, and I knew if it did turn out to
- 3:28be Helen, it leave me kind of sick inside. Worst of all,
- 3:30it could be somebody I didn't even know about, hence the aspro Stacey had
- 3:37asked us to meet him at the gang way at ten o'clock, but he
- 3:38was nowhere in sight when I showed up. Pretty soon Helen and Agatha Forbes
- 3:43came along. Morning Johnny, Hi, Helen Forbes, Good morning, mister
- 3:46Darland. Helen just told me about what happened last night, somebody trying to
- 3:51seize her on deck Dred. Perhaps I shouldn't have told you, miss no
- 3:53No. I'm glad you did anything happened during the night, Helen No.
- 3:57I kept my stateroom door lock. Wow here you are sorry, I'm late.
- 4:00I guess I were slept already already. Say now, I'm mighty glad
- 4:05to see you with us, Miss Forbes. I was hoping you'd come.
- 4:08I won't be going with you. I'm going to stay board and rest.
- 4:11Oh come on now, Miss Forbes, do you good to let your hair
- 4:14down and frisk around a bit? Really, mister Stacy, I assure you
- 4:18I don't feel like frisking around a bit. I'll see you when you get
- 4:23back. Say no, I guess i'll put my foot in my mouth talking
- 4:26that way. Oh well, I usually do anyway, It's sure big enough.
- 4:34Well. One thing I had to give Stacy credit for he was a
- 4:38good guy. He threaded us through street after street in the Native quarter of
- 4:42the car narrow passageways crowded with people in stalls where Native Hawk is worthending all
- 4:46sorts of missiondise This is fascinating, isn't it? Like I told you,
- 4:50i'd cars quite a play. I love it. I wonder if it isn't
- 4:54about time we started back to the ship. Say just a minute, hell
- 4:56em, I think there's a chomp around here. You'd be interested in Silk's
- 5:00perfume stuff like that. You interested, sure, well, let me get
- 5:02my barons a minute. You need more perfume, Johnny, doesn't bother you
- 5:06that I still wear this perfume Andy Porpes gave me. If it does,
- 5:11I won't. Yeah. Yeah, the shop I had in mind is right
- 5:14down the street. Come on. Stacy led us to the shop. Ellen
- 5:19began trying on dresses and rolles. This I didn't like. If she had
- 5:24the diamond, this was a golden opportunity to pass it along, but there
- 5:27wasn't much I could do about it. Then, all of a sudden,
- 5:30I realized that Stacy was nowhere in sight. I went outside and started along
- 5:32the street looking for him. Then I spotted a man following me, a
- 5:36native in a bernous so I ducked down the next daney to shake him,
- 5:40but he didn't shake. Then I noticed that this was a blind alley.
- 5:44The native was closing in, and what he had in his hand looked strangely
- 5:47like a knife. Suddenly, a door beside me. Come on in,
- 5:51Cracy, I said, come on in. A gun in front of me,
- 5:56a knife behind me. I guess I don't have much choice. Oh,
- 6:00you had your stewed steer me. I figured sooner or later you'd start
- 6:04looking for me, so I just thought i'd make it easy for you.
- 6:06Well, thanks, stick around, Hassan. I may need you very well.
- 6:11Hassan's a pretty effective persuader. Dollar, jolly, So you're the boy
- 6:15i've been after, Stacy. Correction, you're the boy i've been after.
- 6:19Dollar. What are you talking about? A diamond called the star a Cape
- 6:23Town? Let's have it. Oh, look, don't give me that routine.
- 6:26Foes was knife by your buddy Julio back in Cape Town. You killed
- 6:30the steward aboard ship to keep him from telling me. It was you who
- 6:31sent the cable grand to Julio. Right, boy, Dollar, that should
- 6:34mean you've got the dam Smart enough, boy, you think I'd have a
- 6:38rangeous little reception for you if I already had a stone. Wait a minute,
- 6:42you're the one who was doing all the room searching aboard ship. I'm
- 6:44the one. Now, let's have it. I don't have it, Stacy,
- 6:47and I don't know where it is. You get a real sense of
- 6:50humored Dollar, so has Hassan. Why don't you show him? Hassan very
- 6:56well, Hey, look, this isn't going to do you any good.
- 7:00It's not gonna do your face any good either, Hassan. Hey, look,
- 7:03don't try it, Dollar, I guarantee you'll get yourself shot. Now.
- 7:08Look, so you're a nice, brave boy, but you're being foolish.
- 7:11It's no good trying to snow me. I got it all figured out.
- 7:14Just what have you got all figured out? That isn't in her stateroom,
- 7:15It isn't in yours. I searched them both again this morning before we
- 7:18came ashore. That's why I was late. You're talking about Helen. Who
- 7:20else? That's why I stirreed her to that shop to try on dresses,
- 7:25little lady who owns it as a friend of mine. She had found the
- 7:28diameond if Helen was carrying Helen? Yeah, Helen, how do you know
- 7:30she had it? Process of elimination, buddy. She was the only one
- 7:34with Forbes before Julio got to him. I've been watching you and Helen like
- 7:39a hawk. Dollar. There's only one time she could have given you the
- 7:42stone. That was during that tender little clinch on deck last night, right
- 7:45under my nose. Why don't they what's the matter? Dollar? Nothing?
- 7:53Yeah? Yeah, what Stacy had just said, popped the whole deal into
- 7:57place suddenly, right under my nose, right where it had been all the
- 8:01time. Tell you what dollar you got? Just five minutes to tell me
- 8:03where that diamond is. Hassam will be here with you, and he's going
- 8:05to start persuading again. If you don't talk, I had to get back
- 8:09to the ship somehow. That meant I'd have to do some fast talking.
- 8:15I looked at Hassan. I couldn't tell which was glittering more as black eyes
- 8:18of the knife he held against my throats. One wrong word and I knew
- 8:20he'd start coming. Hazzan, what do you want? You come from the
- 8:26desert. Don't you why you're a long way from home? Did you get
- 8:31homesick? What do you mean? Oh? I was just thinking, with
- 8:35half the money from that diamonds, you could buy yourself an oasis with all
- 8:39the trimmings. Do not worry. Stacy would pay me well when we get
- 8:43the jewell. What's he giving you for this job? Three goats and a
- 8:46new bernousalah easy with that knife. It's just that everybody who works for Stacy
- 8:52seems to wind up getting paid off the wrong way. Take Coliobiac For one,
- 8:56the guy Stacy hired to get the diamond in the first place. He's
- 9:00roosting in the Cape Town jail right now, you lie. Oh, you
- 9:01can check on it. Then there's the steward who sent Stacy's message to be
- 9:05out. He got shoved overboard. You can check on that too, But
- 9:11I'm sure a thing like that would never happen to you. Go one dollar,
- 9:16Okay, I know where the diamond is. How do I know I
- 9:20can trust you you can come with me to get it. I don't know.
- 9:28At least he was thinking about it, and that's all I wanted.
- 9:31His eyes got that far away look. That's what I was waiting for.
- 9:33I whipped my arm up and knocked his knife in his I buried my fist
- 9:37in his mistake, he checked knife. A rabbit bunch finished him off.
- 9:41I dove for the wall just ae Stacey came charging in war. I kaped
- 9:45the gun out of his hand. I went to work. Stacey was rugged,
- 9:50but I finally made it. I got to the car police to put
- 9:56Stacey and zan on Ice patched up my face and headed back to the ship.
- 10:00But there was something else hurting me a lot more than my face.
- 10:01Helen. Johnny. Yeah, Johnny, have you been you face what happens?
- 10:13I have to hand it to you, Helen, that was a real
- 10:16class a snow job you pulled on me. You're talking about it. Yeah,
- 10:20it was right under my nose all the time, the perfume Forbes gave
- 10:24to you. Now, where's the bottle on my dressing table? Okay,
- 10:30a pretty fancy bottle, solid base or maybe not so solid, Johnny,
- 10:37in the base of the bottle, starve down. I'll bet you are real
- 10:43surprise, don't you, Johnny. I didn't know it was there. I
- 10:45didn't have any idea. I swear it. She's telling the truth, mister
- 10:48Dots. Wow, well, I guess that that gun looks sort of out
- 10:54of character. Perhaps I won't hesitate to use it if necessary. I don't
- 10:58understand. It was cruel of Andrew and me to use you like this,
- 11:01Helen, but we saw no other alternative. Wait a minute. You and
- 11:07your brother rigged this whole deal right from the beginning, didn't you sure?
- 11:11Sure? Because you slipped yesterday, Agatha when you told me you discussed your
- 11:15brother's party with him. But back in Cape Town, he told me it
- 11:18was a surprise party for you, Johnny. I still Oh it's simple,
- 11:20Helen. That bottle of perfume would have turned up missing when you got to
- 11:24New York. Agatha would have appropriated it. One big question, Agatha,
- 11:30why all this? Have you any idea what it means to see somebody drag
- 11:35the family name through the dirt time after time with his wild escapades? And
- 11:41have you any idea what those escapades cost? A brother wasn't dead? Huh?
- 11:46Terribly? We were pressed to the war. Oh why didn't you sell
- 11:50the diamond? We were bound by the will not to that. Arrangements were
- 11:54made with someone in New York. What we could get for the diamond,
- 11:58plus what we could collect from the insurance it would be enough. Oh,
- 12:01nice little scheme, But you didn't figure on who you'll be trying for the
- 12:05diamond in Cape Town and killing your brother in the process. No, first
- 12:11I didn't know what to do, but it soon became clear that more than
- 12:16ever I had to go through with the plan. My brother's creditors began to
- 12:18make trouble right after his murder the diamond. Please, now, look,
- 12:26don't you get an Agatha, You're licked. What do you mean you've done
- 12:31all this to protect the Forbes name. Of course you've failed. The story's
- 12:35out. No, it's not only to the two of you. How are
- 12:37you going to keep us from talking. I'll do whatever is necessary. Bribe
- 12:43us, kill us. Sorry, neither one's gonna work, mister Dollars,
- 12:46do not force trapped Agatha by the same thing that got you into all this,
- 12:50the Forbes name. Are you going to brand it with murder? No?
- 12:58I don't think you are. I don't think you could. I don't
- 13:03I don't know. Please, mister Golla, I'll take the gun Agatha.
- 13:09Thanks, Oh Johnny, that's okay. I guess sir, I have failed,
- 13:16Heaven, I all the way expenser count. I am thirteen three hundred
- 13:24and seventy five dollars and fifty cents. Transportation and incidentals from the car home
- 13:28expenser count total twelve hundred and eighty three dollars and sixty cents. I turned
- 13:33the diamond over to the authorities for safekeeping and Agatha Forbes to face charges of
- 13:37fraud. Holio Biak and Ben Stacy were indicted for the murder of Andrew Forbes
- 13:41remarks. How about Agatha, I guess she did what she did because she
- 13:46thought the end justified the means, which is one of the oldest sucker drafts
- 13:50of them all about Helen Allow that she's no longer a suspect could be I'm
- 13:56no longer building up to a big letdown weather. It hasn't come yet,
- 14:01and I'm still waiting, and the waiting is real. Pleasant. Yours Trulee,
- 14:05Johnny Dollar. Now here's our star to tell you about next week's story.
- 14:22Next week A yacht that wasn't there and a man who wasn't there.
- 14:26They never were, but that's where I found them. Join us, won't
- 14:31you? Yours truly, Johnny Dollar. Yours Truly Johnny Dollar is starring Bob
- 14:41Bailey, is transcribed in Hollywood. It is written by Robert Rife and produced
- 14:46and directed by Jack Johnstone heard him. This week's cast were Gene Tatum,
- 14:50Virginia, Greg Harry bartel Chester Stratton, Marvin Miller, and d J.
- 14:54Thompson. Musical supervision by Amerigo Marino. Be sure to join us on Monday
- 15:00night, same time and station for another exciting story of Yours Truly, Johnny
- 15:05Dollar. Roy Rowan speaking, welcome back, well. I enjoyed this serial
- 16:03and this one may have been. It may not have been the most emotionally
- 16:08engagement, and I think some of the earlier ones may have done that,
- 16:12But this is what one may have been the best mystery, just because they
- 16:15really had a multifaceted solution. Oftentimes, and I think most of the times,
- 16:23as we've heard these Johnny Dollar stories, we've had one culprit. But
- 16:30when you have two different groups of people with different ends, that really makes
- 16:36for an interesting mystery with a lot of complexity. So I appreciated this week's
- 16:41pot. All right, well now and the listener comments and feedback, and
- 16:45we begin with email from William who emails regarding Tony Barrett. I said,
- 16:55I was surprised to learn that Tony Barrett wrote a Johnny Dollar cereal, so
- 16:57I looked him up on I if this is in fact the same Tony Barrett,
- 17:03who is a character actor on many radio shows, then it's surprising to
- 17:06learn that he later became a prolific writer and television as well. Well.
- 17:11It's surprising to me anyway. It seems like a lot of character actors in
- 17:14old time radio either continued acting in TV or they dropped out of sight altogether.
- 17:18But this Tony Barrett apparently had his last television acting role in nineteen fifty
- 17:23nine and was writing into the nineteen seventies. Well, it's an old cliche
- 17:30about actors. What I really want to do is direct or write. And
- 17:36even in the case of Bob Bailey, Bob Bailey actually wrote a little bit
- 17:41for early television and for at least one episode of Yours Truley Johnny Dollar,
- 17:48and I'll mention which one it is, because he often wrote under pseudonym,
- 17:52so it was kind of hard to track down. And a lot of people
- 17:56who come to Hollywood wanting to get involved in the creative into things they start
- 18:06out through acting. That's exactly you know, the path, for example,
- 18:11that Jack Webb took, and Tony Barrett did indeed have a very successful career
- 18:17writing a lot of episodes of Felony, Squad, Burke's Law, Peter Gunn
- 18:25and really just an incredibly solid career as a writer and producer over television,
- 18:32and that perhaps was really where his whole intention may have been from the get
- 18:40go. And Christine commented regarding the Modest Touch Matter one of my favorites.
- 18:45Thanks Christine, that was a good serial. Now let's go ahead and take
- 18:52a listen to part three of Kudos for Conn in the Carter Brown Serials Carter
- 19:10Brown Mysteries Adventures in Excitement and Suspense, based on the best selling novels by
- 19:18the slick storytelling sensation Carter Brown. Well, it looked like your hero,
- 19:37Joe Kahan wasn't the only one searching for helen Usburg. But at least your
- 19:41hero knew why the dame was so popular because of the parcel given to me
- 19:45by her dead husband's pal Kaplan, the parcel which contained two hundred thousand dollars
- 19:51and which now nestled in my safe deposit backs. Since I assure that Mailer,
- 19:56the manager of the Kasbarnet Club, was tied up on the thing I'd
- 19:59had my secret Harry days he get us off a job there a cigarette girl.
- 20:03Then I sat tight and waited for something to break. Hello. Is
- 20:11that you? Yeah? Who's that? It's Captain here? You remember me?
- 20:15Sure? What can I do for you? Mister Kappen? You remember
- 20:18I gave you a partil? Ye? Well, there seems to have been
- 20:22some sort of mistake. Mistake. Yes, missus Buzbug is with me now,
- 20:26and she claimed that she never gave you any authority to pick up that
- 20:30parcel for her, and she wants it right away. She's with you,
- 20:33now, that's right with con Well holder there, I'll be right over,
- 20:48mister Kahn. You were quick come in. Thanks. She's still here,
- 20:52yes, yes, she's waiting for him in the living room this way.
- 20:56I'm glad you called me, Kaptain. I don't worry. I can straighten
- 20:59everything out, I hope. So here we are. What don be shy?
- 21:06Cohn? Come on, he and mailer Hank. You're right, Cohn,
- 21:11that's a gun on your kidneys. They're smart and you'll keep them.
- 21:15It is gun, Hank. That's it. Well, well, nice word,
- 21:21Captain. You really had me fool. I thought the Duwsburg Dame was
- 21:25really here. I'm sorry, mister Khan, honest I am, but they
- 21:29burst in here threatening me. I wouldn't have done it even then, but
- 21:33they started on my wife. I just couldn't stand that, mister Connor,
- 21:37I just couldn't stand it. Sure, Captains here, I understand. Now
- 21:40we've all had a good cry. Where is it, con How did you
- 21:44figure caplain? Not too difficult? After you came to see me, I
- 21:47said to Hank, there goes one smart private eye. Why don't you follow
- 21:51him around a little and see where he goes. We got interested when you
- 21:53went to Glaven Chemicals, and even more interested when you came here to see
- 21:57Kaplin. You're a smart all right. Gone. It was staring us in
- 22:02the face, but we never saw it. Cortez never chose Carl Duisburg for
- 22:06the job because he was done. He chose him because he had brains,
- 22:11and Duisburg wouldn't trust anybody. But he thought he'd look after his wife,
- 22:15Helen, so he made sure even she wouldn't know where it was until she
- 22:18woke up some time and REMEMBEREDI his pal kaplan that way made it safe for
- 22:23Helen, Both with Cortez and me. It took a private eye to show
- 22:27us the way. Yeah, a private eye who was so smart he forgot
- 22:32to look behind him when he walked down the road. We all make mistakes,
- 22:36and we have to pay for him. So where is it Supposing I
- 22:41don't tell you? Supposing you want to go on living. That's just why
- 22:44I won't tell you. You aren't going to kill Meatley get what was in
- 22:48that parcel? So I think I won't tell you hank Ah, where did
- 22:56you say it was? I led you into a secret name. I can
- 23:00take an awful lot of that. It's not as bad as people may got.
- 23:04When it gets really bad, you pass out anyway. And even if
- 23:07you don't pass out, you say the parcel is somewhere aware it isn't.
- 23:11That gives you a break until a guy finds out it isn't there. It's
- 23:15a game we could play for a long time. So what do you want
- 23:21for the parcel? Percentage? We could discuss. I don't want any percentage.
- 23:26I got into this because I have a client. I want what the
- 23:29client wants. Helen Usburg. Give me Helen, and I'll give you the
- 23:33parcel. I need forty eight dollars. I'll have to do a little organizing.
- 23:38Okay, you'll call me no, I don't think so. Just in
- 23:42case you change your mind and decide to skip with the parcel, I think
- 23:47you'd better be my guest for the next forty eight dollars. The cares Bar
- 23:51isn't a bad sort of place, Okay, suits me. We'll go then,
- 23:56mister Caplan, Yeah, there's five hundred dollars. That's to help you
- 24:00forget about what's happened here. If you don't forget, we'll come back.
- 24:10It was early when we arrived at the Kasbarn, too early for customers,
- 24:12but not for the staff, the waiters and the cigarette girls. As we
- 24:18walked through the room, I saw a vision in black nets, stockings,
- 24:22black tights and a tight black blouse. What's the matter? What are you
- 24:26stopping for? I'm out of cigarettes? Might if I buy some? Oh?
- 24:30Go ahead? Thanks cigarettes, sir? Two packs of camels, Daisy.
- 24:40They're gonna keep me here. Find out which room? See if you
- 24:41can get the key, I get out the fast for things I do for
- 24:45a living. Two packs of camels, sir, Thanks, keep the change
- 24:53I have, Daisy. I joined Mailer and Hank and was led down a
- 24:56car to past Mailer's office. After the door and opened it. I apologize
- 25:04for the smallness of the room, Cohn, but you will be comfortable if
- 25:08a little restricted tomorrow will let you out and around for exercise. I'll have
- 25:14a meal sent up later. Thanks, you're seeing your Cahn. The click
- 25:22of the lock was an unpleasant sound. Somehow I reached for a cigarette and
- 25:26wished it was a bottle. About an hour later, the door opened and
- 25:32hanged them the tray inside. The food was good, but it almost made
- 25:36me feel sleepy. Two hours later, I was stretched on the bed when
- 25:41the key grated in the lock again. Joe, Daisy, how are you,
- 25:47daisy? Honey? How'd you do it? That ugly character called Hank
- 25:49had the key? How'd you get it from him? I distracted him?
- 25:52But how these legs you're always talking about? Oh, they're worth their weight
- 25:57in gold than what? Then I smacked him with a bottle. Daisy,
- 26:02you're a wonder. How do we get out of here? Straight down to
- 26:04the right. That's the back door. Come on, hurry before Hank comes
- 26:07round. Hey, is a car shoe? The cars no good unless you've
- 26:18got the keys for well, you never know, people get killless. We're
- 26:23in luck Cadillac with keys. Here's when we ride in a style. Baby,
- 26:29Come on, climb in. Well. I think I rade a raise
- 26:38for that rescue act. You sure do, Honey, You're terrific. There's
- 26:42only one thing I wish what we had time to get back to Hanks,
- 26:47so I could have collected my gun. Well, keep your eyes straight ahead,
- 26:51don't turn your head now, hold out your hand. Is that it?
- 27:00I thought you might want a gun, so I took it. I'm
- 27:04glad to get rid of it. The dawn thing was cold. That's it,
- 27:14Daisy, the whole story up to date. Gee, two hundred thousand
- 27:18dollars, that's enough to last for a lifetime. But it's probably hot money,
- 27:22honey. Did it keep me warm? For sure? Besides, think
- 27:26of all the taxes. Yes, that takes the door out of my dreams,
- 27:32back to being your secretary with no salary. At least they'd have paid
- 27:36me at the cash Bar. It was a nice place. They run it
- 27:40in style, but it's not as good as this place in Tuluth. They
- 27:44tell me a club called the Arabian Nights. They say it super. Yeah,
- 27:49Hey, what was that? What's the matter? Did I say something?
- 27:53Did you ever? What was that about? A place in Tuluth?
- 27:56They say it's better than the cass Bar. That's all right, of course,
- 28:00it's a natural. Mayla said it'd take him forty eight hours to get
- 28:04her up here. If she's working at his Tulouth joined, he'd need time
- 28:07to replace her. Daisy, don't yell like that, you startle me.
- 28:12Look, get on the phone, find out when the next plane leads for
- 28:15Tulouth. Book two seats, then get back to your apartment, changing pack.
- 28:18I'll do the same. Then we go looking for some quiet hotel just
- 28:22to keep out of Maila's wagele. The plane goes. Now go to it,
- 28:23honey. While I waited for Daisy to come back, I did one
- 28:33more thing. I called Diane croughtter Buck at the Astoria and told her about
- 28:37my hunch that the sister she was looking for was that Maila's night spot in
- 28:41Tulouth. I promised to call a long distance if my hunch paid off.
- 28:49Next evening, Daisy and I were sitting at a table in the Arabian Nights
- 28:52in Tulouth. They were right about this place being better than the caspar Yeah,
- 29:00that's our first straight floor show. Joe, con keep that wolf and
- 29:03his kennel. I'm the girl. You should be concentrating on those underdressed stains
- 29:08on the floor, but they really serve them, especially that black head babe.
- 29:14She can dance too. It's not her dancing you're interested in. Well
- 29:18that too. I thought you said this. Helen Dusburg would be doing her
- 29:23act here. She hasn't come on so far, and the floor shows nearly
- 29:26finished. I've been worrying about that too, Calm the great detective. Has
- 29:32it occurred to you he might have made the trip for nothing. Oh,
- 29:33not for nothing, Nanny, just to catch those cuties. There's worth plenty
- 29:37they're finishing. Thank goodness. There that raven haired beauty you were feasting your
- 29:56eyes honest? Taking her bow? Well, i'll be black haired. It's
- 30:00a wig. She's taken it off. She's a blonde. She's not only
- 30:06a blonde, she is also Helenduisburg. Yeah, we found her, Daisy.
- 30:11You stay here, honey. Where are you going to say hello to
- 30:12Helen? Keep a can in the window for me. This is Newsburg who.
- 30:26I'm Joe Kern, a private detective. It probably doesn't mean anything to
- 30:30you, but your sister Diane hired me to find you for her. My
- 30:34sister Dian, that's right. I might also tell you that I found out
- 30:37where car left the silver box. What he left it with Kaplin. He
- 30:42wrote you a note with it said that was the safest way. How do
- 30:47you know? This isn't a long story, but I've got the silver box.
- 30:51I was bargaining it against you with Mailer. The question is, now,
- 30:55what do you want to do about it. I'm afraid it's a little
- 30:56late for missus Jewsburg to decide that Cortes plus a gun, mister con plus
- 31:04a gun, welcome back. Well, this one is setting up for a
- 31:22really good conclusion and I definitely expect to see some action. Of course,
- 31:30next week will be the last of our Carter Brown mysteries for a while,
