- 0:04Speaker 1: but hailing from the city of Sins.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Put your hands together for Jamison Welch.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And in this corner, standing at five foot ten, weighing
- 0:11Speaker 1: in at pound and coming to us from his super
- 0:15Speaker 1: secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona. Put your
- 0:18Speaker 1: hands together for Luis Montemao.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Welcome back to the episode of Mixed Company Podcast. On
- 0:31Speaker 1: one half of the show, I'm Jameson as always a
- 0:34Speaker 1: norm by Luis, and this is a shorty edition, so
- 0:37Speaker 1: it's not gonna be forty five minutes, it's not gonna
- 0:39Speaker 1: be an hour and a half. An hour and fifteen
- 0:42Speaker 1: you guys for a short edition because we've got some
- 0:44Speaker 1: important stuff to talk about. Louise, Man, what's going on?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, we gotta.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I like these shorties because you know, we get to
- 0:50Speaker 4: focus on a single topic and you know, just kind
- 0:52Speaker 4: of dig deep into that. But today I wanted to
- 0:55Speaker 4: talk about our our boy, Lamont Roach, coming back on
- 0:59Speaker 4: a first against William Zeppetta in Las Vegas. So Lamont Roach,
- 1:05Speaker 4: last time we saw him a draw against Pittbull Cruise.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Before that, we saw him getting absolutely robbed during the
- 1:11Speaker 4: Tank Davis fight.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, there's that one.
- 1:15Speaker 4: You know, I don't say robbed a lot when it
- 1:17Speaker 4: comes to the judges' decisions because I'm like, well, you know,
- 1:19Speaker 4: people see it differently this or that. You know that
- 1:22Speaker 4: the Tank fight was definitely Tuk should should have gotten
- 1:26Speaker 4: appoint to duck that and Lamont Roch should have won
- 1:28Speaker 4: that fight. So he got screwed it. It sucks, but
- 1:32Speaker 4: you know, he looked good in the ring and against
- 1:35Speaker 4: Pittbull Cruise. You know, I think I think that was
- 1:37Speaker 4: a fair draw. I also think that going up against
- 1:40Speaker 4: Pittbull Cruz is uh and coming out you know, on
- 1:43Speaker 4: your feet is a big big deal.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 4: So Lamont mos has absolutely proved himself to be a
- 1:48Speaker 4: very good strong contender, strong fighter in the ring. And
- 1:51Speaker 4: then William Zebeta. Last we saw him, he lost to
- 1:53Speaker 4: Sho cor Stevenson, but he took a very respectable l
- 1:57Speaker 4: h look great. Honestly, he gave he pushed Shakur to
- 2:01Speaker 4: give his best performance up to that point in the ring,
- 2:05Speaker 4: very aggressive rock Shakor once you know, it actually looked
- 2:08Speaker 4: like he could have he could have pulled off the wind.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Uh.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Again, I think it was a fair decision for Shakur.
- 2:13Speaker 4: So I'm really really interested in seeing these guys in
- 2:16Speaker 4: the ring together. So let's start here, Jamison, what are
- 2:19Speaker 4: your thoughts on you know, a guy with two draws
- 2:20Speaker 4: and a guy with a loss. I'm excited because I
- 2:23Speaker 4: saw them in the ring, But what does this do
- 2:25Speaker 4: for the average fan who is like are the people
- 2:26Speaker 4: out there who are like, we don't care?
- 2:28Speaker 1: These guys are losers, you know what I mean? No,
- 2:30Speaker 1: because they fought famous people, that's the thing. They weren't
- 2:33Speaker 1: high profile fights. So people definitely watched the Tang fight
- 2:36Speaker 1: for sure. That was I mean everyone who was any
- 2:39Speaker 1: kind of interesting watched that one. And then the Courts
- 2:42Speaker 1: of Paia fight wasn't as viewed, but it was. It
- 2:46Speaker 1: was commonly watched. So that said, these are names and
- 2:48Speaker 1: people recognize, like, oh I remember and he fought such
- 2:51Speaker 1: and such.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So it's a good fight.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And it's interest that you mentioned the type of fighters
- 2:56Speaker 1: they're all, even when you bring up Pitbull Cruise, they're
- 2:58Speaker 1: all kind of in a similar tea a fighter. They're
- 3:00Speaker 1: not the main guys that can necessarily sell a huge fight,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but they're big enough to where they can be a
- 3:05Speaker 1: part of a big car, a part of a really
- 3:07Speaker 1: good car. So whoever wins this is in line to
- 3:10Speaker 1: get a really good fight, but whoever loses it is
- 3:13Speaker 1: not the range either. So it's a very interesting situation.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And I think all guys are kind of closed like
- 3:20Speaker 1: talent wise and resume wise and whatnot. There's not a
- 3:23Speaker 1: whole lot of this. The tune up fight for one
- 3:26Speaker 1: and a.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Step in classes, I'm not I ain't really the case.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It's more of like, hey, whoever gets this, whoever wins
- 3:33Speaker 1: this one is gonna be in line to get a
- 3:35Speaker 1: pretty big fight in the next six months. I think
- 3:39Speaker 1: that's what more of this is.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Like.
- 3:40Speaker 1: It's not like, uh, we're just fighting, it's the fight,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and it feels like where wins this is in line
- 3:45Speaker 1: to get the next big, big fight.
- 3:47Speaker 2: So that's a good thing.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, And you know, for me, I just love
- 3:53Speaker 4: watching fights and I like watching skilled fighters getting the
- 3:55Speaker 4: ring together. So you know, sometimes I'm curious as to
- 3:58Speaker 4: how I guess what would you call it. I don't
- 4:01Speaker 4: want to say people on the outside because that's not
- 4:03Speaker 4: what I'm talking about. Just people just tend to poop
- 4:05Speaker 4: poo everything, you know, all the time. We know that, So,
- 4:09Speaker 4: you know, I think this is a really great fight
- 4:10Speaker 4: and most of these guys, it's going to be a
- 4:12Speaker 4: good showcase for them. Of course, I'm sure they're haters
- 4:14Speaker 4: out there. They're always going to be, But I guess,
- 4:17Speaker 4: I guess what I'm trying to say, it's hard for
- 4:19Speaker 4: me to determine whether it's a fight that I'm just
- 4:21Speaker 4: excited for or if it.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Is a big, big deal. If that makes sense, you
- 4:24Speaker 3: know why, right?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:27Speaker 4: But I think that definitely, it's really cool seeing that
- 4:32Speaker 4: even though La Mount Roach has a couple of draws
- 4:34Speaker 4: and Williams took an l that we're not saying that
- 4:37Speaker 4: these guys are worthless or they're you know, shitty boxers
- 4:40Speaker 4: or that. Yeah, I think, and I've said it before,
- 4:43Speaker 4: but I do think that boxing fans are a little
- 4:46Speaker 4: too hard when somebody you know has a bad night
- 4:49Speaker 4: or takes a loss. And you know, again, I think
- 4:53Speaker 4: that I think the biggest thing. Yeah, Williams Sebet is
- 4:56Speaker 4: not the biggest name, but and the Schakor fight wasn't
- 5:00Speaker 4: seen as much, but pretty much everybody in boxing was
- 5:04Speaker 4: talking about what a good performance it was and how
- 5:06Speaker 4: Shikur definitely had to step it up, you know, he
- 5:07Speaker 4: couldn't he and he Another.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Thing too is that he was in the conversation.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Because Securi is the big name, but Shakur wasn't doing
- 5:16Speaker 4: the dodge in and you know, dancing around like he
- 5:18Speaker 4: was being very aggressive. So, uh so, I think both
- 5:22Speaker 4: of these guys are well matched. Now here's my thing.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Williams at bet that Mexican guy, pibol Cruz Mexican as well.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Yeah they're not big, big tier names, but they you know, Mexicans.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Are gonna support their people always to go heavily. It's
- 5:34Speaker 3: like a locked in fan base.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Uh dmont Roach nobody knew who Helly was or carried
- 5:38Speaker 4: Helly was before the tag fight, Let's be honest, you know, uh,
- 5:42Speaker 4: I think his fame is definitely not to say that
- 5:45Speaker 4: Williams ad better at pible Cruz, it's like artificial or
- 5:48Speaker 4: anything like that.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I'm not saying any of that.
- 5:50Speaker 4: I'm just saying it's much different when you don't have
- 5:53Speaker 4: a locked in fan base for a guy like Lamont Roach.
- 5:56Speaker 3: To make a name for himself.
- 5:57Speaker 2: True.
- 5:58Speaker 4: So I'm I'm actually I'm kind of pulling for Lamont
- 6:01Speaker 4: Roach on this one. You know, like I said, I
- 6:04Speaker 4: don't think he got screwed against people. I think that
- 6:06Speaker 4: he did get screwed against Tank, But I think it's
- 6:09Speaker 4: time for him to take home to w I mean,
- 6:10Speaker 4: I don't know what are your thoughts on his chances here, So.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Roach, it's fascinating, right, Like the two most high profile
- 6:19Speaker 1: fights of his career kind of letdowns in a sense, right,
- 6:22Speaker 1: Like you can make argument that if he beats Tank,
- 6:25Speaker 1: obviously things are way different. He doesn't fight pitball group,
- 6:28Speaker 1: so it's way way different. But it feels like somebody
- 6:31Speaker 1: that has not satisfied. He's not got over the hump,
- 6:35Speaker 1: if that makes sense. Right. He's close, He's really close
- 6:38Speaker 1: turning the corner and being an umber to your guy.
- 6:40Speaker 1: He hasn't been able to do that yet. So that's
- 6:42Speaker 1: where it's very fascinating. I'll be very curious to see
- 6:46Speaker 1: what ends up happening with him, because it's one of
- 6:50Speaker 1: those things where you either take the next step and
- 6:52Speaker 1: become that guy, or you take a step back and
- 6:55Speaker 1: you kind of just become just another guy, right, you
- 6:59Speaker 1: kind of become everybody else. So he's at a weird
- 7:02Speaker 1: I wouldn't say crossroads, but he's got a weird mark
- 7:05Speaker 1: of his career where he can go either way, right,
- 7:07Speaker 1: he can make a really he can have a.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Hell of a fight coming up, take the next step.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Now, he's one of the guys that you got to
- 7:14Speaker 1: mention in the division, but also when it comes to
- 7:16Speaker 1: big fights. And he also has the whole South of
- 7:19Speaker 1: the whole East Coast behind him. He's from d C
- 7:22Speaker 1: which is a big market, a lot of people here,
- 7:24Speaker 1: so all the people Maryland, Virginia, all these coat like.
- 7:27Speaker 2: He has a pretty good following.
- 7:29Speaker 1: It keeps on increasing every you know, every fight, so
- 7:32Speaker 1: there's a lot there is just more about him. Can
- 7:35Speaker 1: he put together a full twelve round display, not eight,
- 7:39Speaker 1: not ten, not take round off here and there, because
- 7:42Speaker 1: if you go back to that securer fight when you're fight, sorry,
- 7:46Speaker 1: when you're when you're about to take fight, when you
- 7:48Speaker 1: go back and look at it, there are certain rounds
- 7:51Speaker 1: where he could have put more pressure on take to
- 7:55Speaker 1: make it undisputed to win that fight when you got
- 7:58Speaker 1: when you're taking away a champions, oh, you basically got
- 8:02Speaker 1: to win every round, like you can't leave any round
- 8:04Speaker 1: up to interpretent and.
- 8:05Speaker 2: It felt like there was too many rounds he.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Didn't take off, but he didn't complete a lot of
- 8:12Speaker 1: the rounds and that's why he got theres all he
- 8:14Speaker 1: got he got, which wasn't necessarily his fault.
- 8:17Speaker 2: It's just how things break down and boxing.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So with that being said, I want to see a
- 8:22Speaker 1: complete performance from him and then we can go from there.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Yeah, and I appreciate that that side of it, because
- 8:29Speaker 4: let's be very clear. You know, I we all say
- 8:31Speaker 4: that lamont Roe should have won that fight because Tank
- 8:33Speaker 4: took a knee, a point should have been deducted. And uh,
- 8:37Speaker 4: for whatever reason you take a knee, the point you
- 8:39Speaker 4: hit the chevas, you know the point has to be
- 8:42Speaker 4: taken away.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I'll I'll drive a low blow. There's no other reason
- 8:46Speaker 2: taking me in the ring.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Absolutely so.
- 8:49Speaker 4: But if you ignore that and you focus just on
- 8:52Speaker 4: the boxing that we saw, if Tank never took that knee,
- 8:55Speaker 4: I do think that it was not a clear win
- 8:57Speaker 4: for lamont Roach. Uh it was I guess what what
- 9:00Speaker 4: would you call it? Like a robbery based on procedure
- 9:03Speaker 4: instead of performance.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Give the fight.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It was a close fight, but you're not gonna take
- 9:08Speaker 1: away an undefeated champ.
- 9:10Speaker 2: That's a huge pay per view draws. Oh away by
- 9:14Speaker 2: just fighting a good fight. It don't work that.
- 9:16Speaker 1: You got to either knock the champ out or you
- 9:18Speaker 1: have to decisively win every round.
- 9:21Speaker 2: If you don't do that, you're just not gonna win.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Don't work that way because the judges are gonna Everyone
- 9:26Speaker 1: judges a fight differently, so you may judge the fight
- 9:29Speaker 1: differently than I do. So you may see something that
- 9:32Speaker 1: roach is doing that I don't see, ad vice versa.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Or you might value it differently, so I might value
- 9:37Speaker 1: power punches, you might value activity. So over twelve rounds,
- 9:42Speaker 1: if one guy's more active but one guy's got more
- 9:44Speaker 1: power shots, who knows how it's gonna work out. So
- 9:48Speaker 1: that's where you can't leave it up to the judges.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You either got to knock out out or you gotta
- 9:53Speaker 1: decisively win the fight to an extent where it's like, damn,
- 9:57Speaker 1: we need to do an investigation if it's called for
- 10:00Speaker 1: this guy.
- 10:01Speaker 2: When Canela lost.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Four years ago, that was a situation where you had
- 10:05Speaker 1: to basically decide the beats one up for a whole
- 10:08Speaker 1: fight something like that.
- 10:10Speaker 2: If you don't do that, then it's not gonna work.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I uh, and amazing that you just said.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Four years ago. Holy crap, like it is. The be
- 10:18Speaker 4: Ball fight was twenty twenty two. That's uh, that's nuts
- 10:21Speaker 4: to me.
- 10:21Speaker 3: But yeah, I saw it like I was that I.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Think it was single a mile of twenty two when
- 10:27Speaker 2: I'm mistaken it was.
- 10:28Speaker 4: It was, yes, yeah, I uh I when I saw
- 10:32Speaker 4: that fight, you know, at first, I was like, man,
- 10:35Speaker 4: this this rescue guy's kind of he's he's won a
- 10:38Speaker 4: few rounds here. You know, Canelo needs to step it up,
- 10:40Speaker 4: and he's usually a slow starter, you know, have like
- 10:42Speaker 4: you know, I don't know, maybe around four or five,
- 10:44Speaker 4: I'm like, he's he's got a guy. He has to
- 10:46Speaker 4: have it now, Canelo's got this guy, timed, et cetera.
- 10:49Speaker 4: I downloaded information and I just kept watching it. Nothing
- 10:52Speaker 4: was changing, and I was like, holy shit, he lost
- 10:54Speaker 4: that fight. Like as a Canilo fan boy watching it,
- 10:57Speaker 4: there was.
- 10:57Speaker 3: No doubt in my mind. And uh, you know, I
- 11:00Speaker 3: people can.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Say like, well Canelo won this round in this rounde
- 11:03Speaker 4: and other people might think that Bevo won that round instead,
- 11:06Speaker 4: blah blah blah.
- 11:08Speaker 3: At the end of the day, yeah, there was no
- 11:10Speaker 3: wiggle room there.
- 11:10Speaker 4: And and Tokenells Grete, who was just like he said, hey,
- 11:14Speaker 4: you know what happens.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Keep you know, walk
- 11:18Speaker 3: in my head held high.
- 11:20Speaker 4: But yeah, another thing that we said recently, it bears
- 11:22Speaker 4: repeating the ref's favor of the champ and the judges
- 11:25Speaker 4: favor of the champ.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Oh so I.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Money involved, Like, yeah, to think about it, It's deeper
- 11:31Speaker 1: than just wins and losses. It's deeper because a champ
- 11:35Speaker 1: brings crowds, it brings travel, it brings tickets, it brings
- 11:40Speaker 1: paper views. Uh, It's deeper than just the twelve rounds
- 11:44Speaker 1: in a ring. It's way deeper than that. A prime
- 11:47Speaker 1: like for instance, if we ever do get Sakura and
- 11:50Speaker 1: Tank in a ring, that's a big time fight. That's
- 11:53Speaker 1: a fight that gets to normal TV. That's a fight
- 11:56Speaker 1: they gets to normal for sports fans. That's a fight
- 11:59Speaker 1: that brings interest outside of the sport. So yeah, if
- 12:03Speaker 1: you can keep that possibility alive, it becomes a mega event,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and that's what the sport needs me and those as possible.
- 12:11Speaker 1: That's why that's what we keep on hearing Crawford Canelo,
- 12:15Speaker 1: That's what we keep on hearing murmurs because there's not
- 12:18Speaker 1: a lot of those left, you know what I mean.
- 12:19Speaker 1: So if that possibility, you want to get because that's
- 12:22Speaker 1: where the money is, that's where the big money's at,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and that's the money those generate. Also helps other fights
- 12:27Speaker 1: as well throughout the year because you're able to put
- 12:30Speaker 1: on for promotional companies, other fights, I pay the fighters well.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So that's why you keep on hearing all these big names,
- 12:36Speaker 1: all these big fights always talked about. There's a lot
- 12:38Speaker 1: of money involved. So that's why it's very difficult to
- 12:40Speaker 1: take someone's oh away. It's very You have to knock
- 12:43Speaker 1: out the champ. There is no other informent. There's no
- 12:47Speaker 1: other advice I can give a fighter. If they're fighting
- 12:50Speaker 1: gets a champ, that is a draw. You have to
- 12:52Speaker 1: knock them out. If you're not going to knock them out,
- 12:54Speaker 1: good luck.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Well, and I understand one hundred percent what you're saying.
- 12:59Speaker 4: I do get that sense of keeping you know, the
- 13:02Speaker 4: champ's reputation, and but upsets are a big thing, and
- 13:05Speaker 4: you know, the next having the next big guy, the
- 13:07Speaker 4: guy who beat the guy is also a thing. So
- 13:09Speaker 4: what what's the default there or is it just kind.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Of so you're you're thoublems are correct, you're spot but
- 13:16Speaker 1: you need by knockout. It's very rare that big ups
- 13:19Speaker 1: happens by decision. Normally the ups to happens by knockout,
- 13:23Speaker 1: t KO somebody whatever, how you want to, but it's
- 13:26Speaker 1: normally by stoppage of some sort. That's normally the takeover
- 13:31Speaker 1: the decision on the cards. That's tricky. That is, hey, man,
- 13:35Speaker 1: if you want to move it to the cards. For
- 13:37Speaker 1: all things we've seen, good luck. I mean it always surprised,
- 13:40Speaker 1: That's all I'm gonna say. But when you're taking something over,
- 13:42Speaker 1: you gotta dominate, I mean dominate on them.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Uh, you gotta dominate the cards.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And even then, man, I say, but the rule of
- 13:52Speaker 1: thumb is this, if you're the underdog and you're fighting
- 13:55Speaker 1: a champ, especially you're fighting them in their hometown, gotta
- 13:58Speaker 1: knock them out.
- 13:59Speaker 2: You gotta knock out. There's no there's no other way.
- 14:03Speaker 4: And I was just talking about our producer Jabard Davis
- 14:07Speaker 4: recently and he was saying, like, it's true, the only
- 14:09Speaker 4: way that Buster Douglas beats Mike Tyson was with a knockout.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Everybody knew that before the fighters like like there was
- 14:14Speaker 4: no yeah, so and.
- 14:17Speaker 3: It happened, so uh yeah.
- 14:19Speaker 4: I even so I would say, speaking anecdotally just on
- 14:23Speaker 4: vibes and what I see. You know, if if you
- 14:25Speaker 4: got a guy that beats a champ and it's even
- 14:27Speaker 4: if it's in the unanimous decision, I feel like it's
- 14:30Speaker 4: a little bit harder for the fans.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Specifically to be like this is the new guy.
- 14:33Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, just because people don't are
- 14:36Speaker 4: going to switch allegiances unless, of course there's there's a knockout,
- 14:40Speaker 4: a very clear or stoppage fact facts.
- 14:44Speaker 3: So yeah, so I definitely get that. I don't know.
- 14:47Speaker 4: I mean, Lamont Roach has showed himself to be I
- 14:50Speaker 4: think his best quality has been his defense because he
- 14:54Speaker 4: has kept himself from getting the ship beat out him
- 14:56Speaker 4: by two very aggressive fighters. I think possibly just needs
- 15:00Speaker 4: to be more on the attack. You know, he had
- 15:02Speaker 4: a couple, he has some really good counter punching against Peopull.
- 15:05Speaker 4: He did get it, he did get rocks, he did
- 15:07Speaker 4: actually get I believe he got rocked, and I believe
- 15:10Speaker 4: his glove did touch the canvas. And then yes because
- 15:15Speaker 4: because pipul Cruise was about to run up again his ass,
- 15:17Speaker 4: but the ref jumped in so uh so to come
- 15:21Speaker 4: back from that with a draw and deservedly, Like that's
- 15:24Speaker 4: awesome because when a close match one point, like you're
- 15:28Speaker 4: you're screwed, you lose one point, and it's usually like
- 15:31Speaker 4: curtains for you, uh if it goes to the cards.
- 15:34Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 15:35Speaker 4: I mean, williams Abeta was, like I said, very aggressive
- 15:38Speaker 4: against the cour and then Lamont kind of has a
- 15:40Speaker 4: similar good defense style that she does. But uh, he
- 15:44Speaker 4: wi I got he got a very aggressive performance out
- 15:48Speaker 4: of a defense guy before, right, right.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So that's what I'm hoping for here.
- 15:52Speaker 4: And yeah, I'm really hoping the Lamant roach definitely turns
- 15:55Speaker 4: up the power of strength counter punching. And I also
- 16:00Speaker 4: so here's the thing is another thing too personally speaking,
- 16:02Speaker 4: I don't want after his you said, his sour experience
- 16:07Speaker 4: is not getting over him to then fade away because
- 16:10Speaker 4: he's worked so hard, you know what I mean.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I want this guy to kind of have a little
- 16:13Speaker 3: bit more more time and more fame and fans and hype.
- 16:17Speaker 4: You know, maybe maybe he has a few more years
- 16:20Speaker 4: and we don't hear about him again in twenty twenty
- 16:22Speaker 4: eight nine or whatever. But I don't think he deserves
- 16:25Speaker 4: to fade away just yet.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So I agree. I agree.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Another interesting thing about this fight is that actually this
- 16:34Speaker 4: is the second fight, the first being Abdullah Mason on
- 16:38Speaker 4: July fourth. That is a partnership between The Zone and
- 16:41Speaker 4: T and T Sports. I actually hadn't realized that with
- 16:44Speaker 4: the Abdulah Macefi.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Did you know that this was the TNT was part
- 16:47Speaker 3: of these events?
- 16:49Speaker 2: I was not aware until you mentioned it in our notes.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I was sarrived.
- 16:51Speaker 1: But that's a good son because, well, you know what,
- 16:54Speaker 1: TNT needs content because they lost the NBA, So that
- 16:57Speaker 1: makes a lot more sense now still a great because
- 17:01Speaker 1: we need as much as much boxing as possible.
- 17:06Speaker 2: On network TV. So that's that's a really good sign.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I'm glad you mentioned that about the NBA.
- 17:11Speaker 4: I was actually gonna ask you if you had any
- 17:13Speaker 4: idea what the hell TNT was doing getting in the mix.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Here, But that makes perfect sense.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Actually, Yeah, so what they're doing is, oh I forgot,
- 17:21Speaker 4: I forgot what it's called, like the the main event
- 17:25Speaker 4: or the fight whatever it is.
- 17:26Speaker 3: It's a monthly boxing event.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 17:29Speaker 4: So, so the first one is Abdulla Mason July fourth,
- 17:32Speaker 4: then we got Lamont Roach August first. I don't I
- 17:35Speaker 4: didn't see like what the contract was for how many
- 17:38Speaker 4: fights or how long or for a year or whatever,
- 17:40Speaker 4: but consistently once a month a pretty you know, pretty
- 17:45Speaker 4: decently hyped fight and you know it's gonna be on TNT.
- 17:49Speaker 4: I'm all in, especially because I've complained about yet boxing
- 17:53Speaker 4: not being on network TV, linear TV, not being able
- 17:56Speaker 4: to have the bartender at the dive bar change the
- 17:58Speaker 4: channel to put the fight on when when I'm out. Uh.
- 18:01Speaker 4: I think it's great, and it does appear that it'll
- 18:03Speaker 4: be on of course it's going to be on the
- 18:05Speaker 4: de Zone streaming app, but it does appear it's going
- 18:06Speaker 4: to be on actual TNT, like the network.
- 18:09Speaker 2: As well, right right, right.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Yeah, So they've never done anything if they boxing related,
- 18:15Speaker 4: I can't think of any of the top of my
- 18:16Speaker 4: head have they I.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Mean, I think they've done I'm not.
- 18:21Speaker 1: For some reason, I feel like boxing was on tn
- 18:23Speaker 1: T or TBS back in the day somehow someway, just
- 18:26Speaker 1: because it's like Turner always has every event possible one
- 18:30Speaker 1: way or another. But I don't recall it off.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Top well, and I I do.
- 18:36Speaker 4: I feel like I don't remember this for sure with facts,
- 18:39Speaker 4: but I kind of remember that every there was always
- 18:41Speaker 4: a boxing match on every basic cable channel, right, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 4: everybody got dipped in there, so no, I think honestly,
- 18:49Speaker 4: the thing about TNT is one of those things for
- 18:51Speaker 4: me personally is that it's always been there. I can't
- 18:54Speaker 4: think of any time I've ever followed anything on TNT,
- 18:56Speaker 4: like any shows either.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Uh.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I never followed the NBA, so I don't.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Know, I mean, it was it was kind of it
- 19:03Speaker 4: was kind of surprising to me honestly that that tn
- 19:06Speaker 4: T was getting in the mix. But it definitely makes
- 19:08Speaker 4: one hundred percent sense with them losing the NBA, where's
- 19:13Speaker 4: the NBA, Who's who has that?
- 19:15Speaker 2: Everyone?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Espn NBC, Amazon, Let's see NBC Peacock, a lot, a
- 19:26Speaker 1: lot of outlets they have. It's spread across so you know,
- 19:31Speaker 1: even he went T and T it was a part
- 19:33Speaker 1: of the networks, but NBC basically replaced tn T. So
- 19:37Speaker 1: that's kind of how the NBA did it. But uh,
- 19:40Speaker 1: tn T is always in like one off event, so
- 19:42Speaker 1: I guess they did like one of George Foreman's comeback
- 19:45Speaker 1: fights back in the day, so they'll do stuff like that.
- 19:47Speaker 2: They were never like consistently having boxing matches off.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I think I think even once a month.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Sure, of course, we'd like to have a boxing a
- 19:56Speaker 4: big match every single weekend, you know, not even not
- 19:59Speaker 4: even a big match, just like consistently know that every
- 20:01Speaker 4: weekend there's gonna be a match in the US on
- 20:04Speaker 4: a Saturday night, as.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Opposed to you know, overseas where it's during the day.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Uh So, I think this is a good sign. I
- 20:11Speaker 3: feel like this is something I'm gonna hope for. Uh that.
- 20:15Speaker 4: You know, a lot of things are kind of there's
- 20:18Speaker 4: these periods where you go into the new technology, new avenues,
- 20:22Speaker 4: but then people kind of rediscover things people rediscover I
- 20:24Speaker 4: don't know, like FM radio it goes out of fashion
- 20:26Speaker 4: that it comes back and you know, the kids by
- 20:28Speaker 4: Vinyls things like that, you know what I mean.
- 20:31Speaker 3: I feel like I'm hoping to a point where.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Sue Nish boxing on TV sor do they rediscover that
- 20:39Speaker 4: how good that could be. It's also a possibility because
- 20:41Speaker 4: streaming has now become cable or you need ten different.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Apps to watch watch.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Yeah, and we people predicted it, you know, I thought
- 20:50Speaker 4: of it when it was happening, When all of a
- 20:52Speaker 4: sudden you had to download one app it was it's
- 20:55Speaker 4: now Peacock for something, but it used to be Paramount
- 20:58Speaker 4: Paramount plus for to watch a Star Trek show specifically
- 21:01Speaker 4: or something like that.
- 21:02Speaker 3: It was exclusive to that one. Up, I was like,
- 21:04Speaker 3: this is fucking stupid. I'm sorry. Now you're just doing
- 21:06Speaker 3: the thing right.
- 21:08Speaker 4: So hopefully maybe with with this these streaming wards, these
- 21:12Speaker 4: app wars, people are gonna rediscover hey man.
- 21:14Speaker 3: You know, a basic, basic cable TV package not the
- 21:17Speaker 3: worst thing in the world.
- 21:19Speaker 4: And if you put boxing back in, you know, on
- 21:22Speaker 4: a regular cable channel, it could be.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Good for the sport.
- 21:25Speaker 4: So yeah, but that's pretty much all I kind of
- 21:30Speaker 4: wanted to discuss this week.
- 21:31Speaker 3: You know, I'm very excited about.
- 21:32Speaker 4: The Roach event, and I think I think it was
- 21:34Speaker 4: announced maybe like last week after we are were recorded,
- 21:38Speaker 4: before the episode came out or something like that, so
- 21:40Speaker 4: we missed it. And then actually, and actually, I'm gonna
- 21:44Speaker 4: throw a curve ball here before we go. The whole
- 21:47Speaker 4: thing about Shakoor signing was ZUFA boxing. Eddie Hern said it,
- 21:51Speaker 4: Chakour denied it. We don't really know. There's no announcement,
- 21:54Speaker 4: nothing official. Yet everybody's talking about it like it's a
- 21:57Speaker 4: real thing, right, I don't know. The possibility is that
- 22:01Speaker 4: let me know if this happens too. A readon with
- 22:03Speaker 4: other sports that people deny it because they want the
- 22:05Speaker 4: announcement to be a big deal, so they're kind of
- 22:07Speaker 4: lying about it.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Is that a thing that leverage, right, So you want
- 22:12Speaker 1: to whatever leverage you have, you want to maintain it
- 22:13Speaker 1: until something is official.
- 22:15Speaker 2: So, yes, announcements are made strategically. It's never just comes
- 22:20Speaker 2: out randomly.
- 22:21Speaker 1: There's always announcement reasons for whether there's endorsements attached to,
- 22:24Speaker 1: whether there's some sort of contractual agreement that you're negotiating,
- 22:29Speaker 1: whatever it is.
- 22:30Speaker 2: There's a lot of different reasons why an announcement would
- 22:32Speaker 2: either break or be rumored of.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So, for instance, let's say if someone's done a bidding
- 22:37Speaker 1: war for us uh and you tweet, you put on
- 22:42Speaker 1: TikTok or instagram saying hey, such and such as bidding
- 22:45Speaker 1: for us, let's go.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That probably wouldn't be the smartest thing, but you know,
- 22:50Speaker 2: there's times where one of the.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Two bidders might put something out there to kind of
- 22:56Speaker 1: mess up the leverage one for another party.
- 22:58Speaker 2: So it's all tactics. It all depends on what going on.
- 23:00Speaker 4: That's all okay, Okay, I want to get that out
- 23:03Speaker 4: there because I just sawd something about it before we
- 23:06Speaker 4: got onto the show and before we got on the mic.
- 23:08Speaker 3: But I here's the thing.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Based on what you're saying and what I'm seeing, it
- 23:13Speaker 4: seems like it's probably a done deal. It just has
- 23:15Speaker 4: not been announced, which is a real bummer. We're definitely
- 23:18Speaker 4: gonna have to talk about that because I wouldn't be
- 23:20Speaker 4: very happy to see shakor officially.
- 23:22Speaker 3: With zoof anyway.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Just an after thought here, I just want to make
- 23:25Speaker 4: sure that we plugged in because we haven't really mentioned it.
- 23:27Speaker 4: We want to make sure that you know we're keeping
- 23:29Speaker 4: an eye on it and you know that we're we're

- 23:42Speaker 1: a lot of boxes coming up. Can't wait. We got
- 23:45Speaker 1: a lot of people, a lot of fights come up,
- 23:47Speaker 1: a lot of discussions I have, so I can't wait

- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah, man, it's gonna It's been a good year so
