- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello everyone, and welcome into another episode of The check Odaily.
- 0:12Speaker 1: It's Andrew de Checo, Eagles beat reporter for Inside the
- 0:15Speaker 1: Birds dot com, and today is an off day for us.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We were not at practice, but we will return to
- 0:22Speaker 1: practice Thursday for the final one of the week, as
- 0:26Speaker 1: we are now days away from the Eagles preseason opener
- 0:30Speaker 1: at MT.
- 0:31Speaker 2: And T.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Banks Stadium that's in Baltimore, when they take on the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Ravens Saturday night. And I understand that preseason football isn't
- 0:41Speaker 1: top of mind.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's not something that.
- 0:43Speaker 1: You're gonna be overly enthused about, at least the vast majority.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Some will simply be intrigued and excited to see the
- 0:52Speaker 1: first glimpse of the twenty twenty six Eagles. And I'm
- 0:56Speaker 1: here to tell you certain things that I'll be keeping
- 0:58Speaker 1: an eye on. We'll get into players that I'll be
- 1:01Speaker 1: watching later in the week.
- 1:03Speaker 2: We'll talk about some.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Of the roster decisions and all of that later on,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but I want to talk about certain areas that I
- 1:13Speaker 1: will be keeping an eye on on Saturday night, and
- 1:16Speaker 1: maybe that will give you some viewing interest as you
- 1:19Speaker 1: watch this game. And I can tell you this from
- 1:22Speaker 1: watching ten practices that these are positions and areas that
- 1:26Speaker 1: warrant some an extra set of eyes or some close attention,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I should say, And we'll start with the reserve offensive line.
- 1:37Speaker 1: There's already eight spots that are determined, right you have
- 1:41Speaker 1: Jordan Mylotta, Landon, Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Lane Johnson,
- 1:46Speaker 1: Mark Kelbell, Drew Kendall, and more than.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Likely Fred Johnson.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But there's probably two or maybe even three spots that
- 1:55Speaker 1: have yet to be determined. There's been some positive moments
- 2:00Speaker 1: from a lot of young players in camp. Now it's
- 2:03Speaker 1: about carrying that over into the preseason. I think, for example,
- 2:06Speaker 1: someone like a Willie Lampkin, who for those of you
- 2:09Speaker 1: who don't know where it's number sixty one, it's five
- 2:11Speaker 1: eleven two and ninety pounds. He's a spark plug. He's
- 2:14Speaker 1: incredibly strong and technical. So don't necessarily judge a book
- 2:18Speaker 1: by its cover, because he does. You have to look
- 2:22Speaker 1: about the you have to look at the results and
- 2:25Speaker 1: what he's able to do when he's out there, and
- 2:26Speaker 1: he plays with a really good, strong anchor really technically
- 2:30Speaker 1: sound and whether it's you name it, a defensive lineman,
- 2:36Speaker 1: an offensive lineman, they've they've sort of sung the praises
- 2:39Speaker 1: of Willie Lampkin in training camp, and he gives really
- 2:44Speaker 1: good effort. He has been cross trained at guard. He's
- 2:48Speaker 1: a center by trade. For to back things up a
- 2:50Speaker 1: little bit, the Eagles claim boy Lampkin last summer after
- 2:54Speaker 1: cutdowns that he was with the Rams. He had a
- 2:57Speaker 1: good training camp with the Rams. He had good tape
- 3:00Speaker 1: last preseason, but he suffered an injury. He was waived,
- 3:02Speaker 1: the Eagles claimed him, then he was placed on IR
- 3:07Speaker 1: didn't participate in.
- 3:08Speaker 2: A single game last season.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So there's not a lot that's known from an Eagles
- 3:12Speaker 1: perspective about Willy Lampkin. But I'm here to tell you
- 3:15Speaker 1: that in practices he has shown signs of promise. I
- 3:22Speaker 1: think he's gotten better as training camp has gone on,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and he's drawn a lot of praise from teammates, like
- 3:29Speaker 1: most recently Byron Young, who has called him a pest
- 3:32Speaker 1: in the run game and the pass game. So he's
- 3:35Speaker 1: someone that I'll be keeping an eye on, probably mostly
- 3:38Speaker 1: as a center, but if they cross train him at
- 3:41Speaker 1: guard in this game, I'll be really interested to see
- 3:45Speaker 1: how he handles himself. Most recently, he spent the last
- 3:48Speaker 1: two practices at left guard. Prior to that, he had
- 3:51Speaker 1: two practices at right guard, and it seems like the
- 3:54Speaker 1: Eagles are really going to give him a big opportunity
- 3:57Speaker 1: to earn a roster spot. Then there's the two day
- 4:02Speaker 1: three draftees from last year who I've been a little
- 4:04Speaker 1: bit down on this summer, and that's Miles Hinton and
- 4:08Speaker 1: Cameron Williams. Both players have really worked exclusively with the
- 4:12Speaker 1: third team in camp, but they're going to get a
- 4:15Speaker 1: lot of opportunities, a lot of snaps and a lot
- 4:18Speaker 1: of opportunities to build, you know, to get some things
- 4:21Speaker 1: on tape this time around. And Cameron Williams is more
- 4:25Speaker 1: of a he's a raw player, but you can see
- 4:28Speaker 1: signs of growth this year. That was pretty apparent to me.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Miles Hinton I haven't quite seen as much with. I
- 4:34Speaker 1: think Cameron Williams offers a little bit more upside.
- 4:37Speaker 2: But both players, to.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Be clear, are on the third team and I want
- 4:43Speaker 1: to see how the Eagles use them. Because Miles Hinton
- 4:45Speaker 1: has cross trained at guard and tackle, he's a tackle
- 4:49Speaker 1: by trade.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Both players have.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I think a little bit of a little bit of
- 4:56Speaker 1: a ceiling. But Cameron Williams play in one game last season.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I thought he did a nice job, but for whatever reason,
- 5:03Speaker 1: he hasn't been able to leap to.
- 5:05Speaker 2: The second team.
- 5:06Speaker 1: That's where you've mostly seen some combination of markl Bellfred Johnson,
- 5:12Speaker 1: John Adjuquo.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And that's another player that I'll be keeping an eye on.
- 5:16Speaker 1: But I want to see what the twenty twenty five
- 5:21Speaker 1: Day three picks and Cameron Williams and Miles Sentton are
- 5:23Speaker 1: able to do out there. And the preseasons another part
- 5:28Speaker 1: of this equation. Practices count for an awful lot in
- 5:31Speaker 1: terms of the evaluation process, but so does the preseason,
- 5:34Speaker 1: maybe to a lesser degree, but you want to see
- 5:37Speaker 1: how these guys go out there and to quit themselves
- 5:39Speaker 1: when they're able to go out there and perform against
- 5:42Speaker 1: the team you know, you know someone with a different
- 5:46Speaker 1: jersey on. There's also Jake Majors. Jake Majors is a
- 5:51Speaker 1: second year player. He was on the Eagles practice squad
- 5:54Speaker 1: for all but one week last season. Undrafted free agent
- 5:57Speaker 1: with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, suffered an injury at the
- 5:59Speaker 1: end of camp, waived, then he joins the Eagles after
- 6:02Speaker 1: Week one. Shorter arms for that position. But he is
- 6:06Speaker 1: a tech, technically sound player, highly intelligent. Started fifty six
- 6:10Speaker 1: games at the University of Texas, which is a program record,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and there's been moments in camp that he stands out
- 6:18Speaker 1: to me.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I can see the potential.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And he was on the practice squad last year, so
- 6:23Speaker 1: he had a chance to learn from players like Bret
- 6:27Speaker 1: tove Like. He was growing alongside Drew Kendall. They were
- 6:30Speaker 1: both rookies last season. Willie Lampkin was a rookie last season,
- 6:34Speaker 1: so they all sort of are coming up through the
- 6:36Speaker 1: ranks together. But I do know from experience from being
- 6:40Speaker 1: there that Brett Toad that has mentored all of the
- 6:44Speaker 1: players that I just mentioned and helped him develop, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: add some more seasoning to his game. But this is
- 6:50Speaker 1: someone that coming out of the University of Texas I
- 6:54Speaker 1: had a day three grade on. I understood that maybe
- 6:58Speaker 1: he didn't have the prototypical measure that you'd like, but
- 7:02Speaker 1: there's something to be said for the toughness, the durability,
- 7:05Speaker 1: the experience at a premiere program in college football, and
- 7:09Speaker 1: I just think that this is a very very intelligent,
- 7:13Speaker 1: very intelligent person. And Jake majors he's able to diagnose things,
- 7:19Speaker 1: and I think that that could reveal itself in the preseason.
- 7:22Speaker 1: He's also cross trained at guard as well. He's the
- 7:28Speaker 1: Eagles second team right guard on the first and unofficial
- 7:32Speaker 1: depth chart, so that's something that I'll.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Certainly be keeping an eye on. Look.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He has an uphill battle to make the roster, to
- 7:38Speaker 1: be clear, but he has had some moments in camp
- 7:42Speaker 1: that to me suggests that the Eagles might.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Have something there.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I have a hard time finding a place for him
- 7:48Speaker 1: on the fifty three right now, but that's another young player.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Michael Morris at the University of Georgia is another young
- 7:54Speaker 1: player that I am very curious to see how he
- 7:57Speaker 1: handles himself in his first NFL game. Because he has
- 8:01Speaker 1: mostly repped with the third team, He's had some moments
- 8:05Speaker 1: where he's been on.
- 8:06Speaker 2: The second team.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Injuries and things like that have factored into that, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: we'll see what he can do. He's a six round
- 8:14Speaker 1: pick and the Eagles need interior depth, so perhaps Michael
- 8:19Speaker 1: Morris can put together a strong preseason and help his
- 8:22Speaker 1: chances of making the roster. I'm also going to be
- 8:26Speaker 1: looking at the safety position beyond Drew mccoob. I'm looking
- 8:30Speaker 1: at Marcus Epps and Michael Carter because both players I
- 8:34Speaker 1: think have held up well in training camp. Michael Carter,
- 8:37Speaker 1: to me, is coming on a little bit. I think
- 8:39Speaker 1: he's had the better summer. He's around the football a
- 8:41Speaker 1: little bit more. He covers more ground than Marcus Epps,
- 8:44Speaker 1: Whereas Marcus Epps has played the position, He's played in
- 8:49Speaker 1: a number of games then started a number of games
- 8:51Speaker 1: in the NFL, and there's clearly a trust factor there
- 8:54Speaker 1: with Epps and from the perspective of Vic Vangio, and
- 8:59Speaker 1: there's something to be for that. If you're looking for
- 9:02Speaker 1: someone with more upside who can provide a little bit
- 9:05Speaker 1: more of a spark on the back end and maybe
- 9:08Speaker 1: generate some turnovers, Michael Carter is going to be your guy.
- 9:10Speaker 1: He also has a lot of versatility to his game,
- 9:13Speaker 1: which allows you to do some different things defensively in
- 9:16Speaker 1: terms of being multiple and you can deploy certain players
- 9:22Speaker 1: in different places because of that gives you more flexibility.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I want to see how he can do in another
- 9:30Speaker 1: opportunity to play some safety. He played safety in the
- 9:33Speaker 1: season finale. He played at over sixty snaps and I
- 9:36Speaker 1: believe it that had to give the Eagles some sort
- 9:39Speaker 1: of confidence or at least pique their interest enough to
- 9:42Speaker 1: give him this long look.
- 9:43Speaker 2: This summer, and we'll see what he's able to do.
- 9:45Speaker 1: But I can tell you that he's come on a
- 9:47Speaker 1: little bit, and Marcus SEPs has had a quieter summer.
- 9:50Speaker 1: That's not always a bad thing for a safety, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: I would also argue that to be an effective safety
- 9:55Speaker 1: in a pic Fangio defense, I don't believe that you
- 9:57Speaker 1: need to be a superstar. There are certain things that you.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Have to have.
- 10:01Speaker 1: You have to have high level football intelligence, you have
- 10:04Speaker 1: to be disciplined, and you have to be someone that
- 10:08Speaker 1: is as Sigmon sound, and so he checks off all
- 10:11Speaker 1: of those boxes. He's not a flashy player, but neither
- 10:14Speaker 1: really was Red Blanket Ship.
- 10:15Speaker 3: I know how I feel when I wake up in
- 10:17Speaker 3: the morning. I have so many things on my mind.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I can't get any of this done until I have
- 10:22Speaker 3: my first cup of coffee. I know a lot of
- 10:24Speaker 3: you feel the same way. You either need that coffee,
- 10:28Speaker 3: that nicotine pouch, maybe even energy drink to get yourself

- 14:25Speaker 1: And other players that you can look at that have
- 14:27Speaker 1: played that position for Fangio at different points in his
- 14:31Speaker 1: coaching career.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So that is something that I will be looking at.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Keep in mind that Cooper Degen will be the Eagle
- 14:37Speaker 1: safety when they were in base defense alongside Drew mccouba,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and the Eagles could be in base.
- 14:42Speaker 2: A little bit more this year.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think that that's actually going to be something that
- 14:47Speaker 1: could come the fruition, and it's not out of certainly
- 14:50Speaker 1: not out of the realm of possibility. Vic Vanjo has
- 14:52Speaker 1: sort of intimated that that could be the case. But
- 14:56Speaker 1: when the Eagles are in Nickel, it's going to be
- 14:59Speaker 1: at this point either Marcus EPs or Michael Carter, and
- 15:02Speaker 1: I want to see which player sort of rises to
- 15:05Speaker 1: the occasion and who has the better summer Because in
- 15:09Speaker 1: camp right now, I'm gonna tell you that I think
- 15:11Speaker 1: Michael Carter has had the better training camp.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Then you have to look at the depth at.
- 15:16Speaker 1: The cornerback position, because beyond Quinnon, Mitchell, rieq Wohen Cooper
- 15:23Speaker 1: dejen is a nickelback, but there's Jonathan Jones, there's Mac McWilliams,
- 15:29Speaker 1: there's Jacoryan Bennett, Keeley Ringo andbry Thomas.
- 15:33Speaker 2: But really, no one's stepped up to the plate.
- 15:37Speaker 1: No one has had a camp that to me says
- 15:40Speaker 1: they're putting their stamp on this spot and rounding out
- 15:43Speaker 1: this cornerback room. There's still a lot that has yet
- 15:46Speaker 1: to be determined in the in the preseason. If you're
- 15:50Speaker 1: asking me right now, going into week one of the preseason,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you that Mac McWilliams, the second
- 15:55Speaker 1: year cornerback out of UCF, has the best chance. Vic
- 15:58Speaker 1: Vangio mentioned the difference that he's seen in McWilliams from
- 16:02Speaker 1: year one to year two, and he specified the maturity
- 16:06Speaker 1: that he's noted and said that there are certain things
- 16:09Speaker 1: that he can't.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Say, but he's so you could tell that he really.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Was able to reach Mac and find different ways to
- 16:18Speaker 1: motivate him and light a fire under him. He only
- 16:20Speaker 1: played in five games last year, very minimally on defense,
- 16:24Speaker 1: very minimally on special teams. But he's added weight this summer.
- 16:29Speaker 1: He's playing faster and with more confidence. That to me
- 16:31Speaker 1: is very apparent. And when Quinja Mitchell left practice on
- 16:37Speaker 1: what day is it, I have no idea Tuesday, it
- 16:41Speaker 1: was Mac McWilliams who got the nod to replace him
- 16:44Speaker 1: opposite Riek Wollen. Keep in mind, Jonathan Jones wasn't there,
- 16:48Speaker 1: he was injured and not practicing. But it is interesting
- 16:51Speaker 1: because you have other players like Jacoryan Bennett and keiey
- 16:54Speaker 1: Ringo who have started games and in the case of
- 16:58Speaker 1: Jacoryan Bennett, at one point or another, offered upside and
- 17:01Speaker 1: intrigue here in Philadelphia.
- 17:02Speaker 2: The Eagles traded for him just last summer, but the.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Eagles instead turned to Mac McWilliams, And I think that
- 17:08Speaker 1: that right there is a nod to the second year
- 17:12Speaker 1: cornerback and a testament to the work that he's put
- 17:14Speaker 1: in behind the scenes. He's added muscle, he's gotten stronger,
- 17:18Speaker 1: but he's also someone that to me looks like a
- 17:21Speaker 1: player that has much more confidence and a firmer grasp
- 17:26Speaker 1: on his assignments.
- 17:28Speaker 2: And his role within this defense.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And that speaks volumes when it comes to Vic Vangil
- 17:35Speaker 1: and what he looks for. So that backup cornerback spot,
- 17:38Speaker 1: to me, is something that I will be really keying
- 17:41Speaker 1: in on the preseason games. Might be what separates one
- 17:45Speaker 1: player from the next. There's sort of a log jam there,
- 17:48Speaker 1: but no one has separated themselves to this point, and
- 17:51Speaker 1: I would say that that's probably a position that I
- 17:54Speaker 1: have highlighted.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 17:59Speaker 4: long line, We've all been there, But when it comes
- 18:02Speaker 4: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 18:06Speaker 4: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 18:11Speaker 4: with plenty of free parking.

- 18:13Speaker 4: Fast, no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care
- 18:16Speaker 4: about convenience. Camedn Apothecary is all about the guest experience.
