- 0:11Speaker 1: hello and welcome to another year here at kenworth, presentation night and with the inclusive seniors and there's so many guests I can't thank for their time.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And first up, a captain, a hard worker on and off the field, let's bring our first guest, jesse woman.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Welcome to the bj show.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Once again, thank you, bj, for having me, no worry.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So for this season you know what's the achievement?
- 0:40Speaker 2: you have improved this 40 season at kenworth probably you've seen the young players improve on the.
- 0:46Speaker 2: You know all his skills.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Like we have a new young player this year.
- 0:50Speaker 2: He's 17.
- 0:51Speaker 2: That's obviously obviously Kanan.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So yeah, it's just seeing the young players improve a game.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So yeah, what's the challenge you.
- 0:58Speaker 2: You have improved this 40 season at Kenworth, probably the off-field drama and, yeah, just staying focused on the footy and that's most important thing as well.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So now we've just broken off the air into the, on to the air.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Look, you've won five best and fairers at Kenworth, and that's you know what this season means to you receiving the runners-up for this 40 season at Kenilworth, it means a lot to me.
- 1:28Speaker 2: you know there's so many players that played a role this year.
- 1:32Speaker 2: You know the whole team could, like you know, get an award tonight.
- 1:36Speaker 2: You know Not just me or Brad, you know the whole team played a part this year.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I reckon.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And do you and I may say this every year, but do you enjoy playing footy for?
- 1:46Speaker 2: kenilworth bj.
- 1:48Speaker 2: You don't need me ask me that that's a silly question.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I love playing footy.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I know you do so.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Look, I've been here for five years.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Like it's amazing to know you.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You, I for your ability.
- 2:00Speaker 1: You have improved.
- 2:02Speaker 1: You want to be like into coaching.
- 2:04Speaker 1: That's something that christine mentioned out on our presentation, but I want to share that.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I think your person, that I told you and you remember during the season use your voice.
- 2:16Speaker 1: No, don't be, don't use your soft voice, use your firm voice and it works.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I will listen to a voice.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Then it's firm and clear.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Everyone, and that's something that I think why I've chosen the team spirit, because I engage to the coaches.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You know, when you know reza be, kimos and yourself, you know something that I want to learn and improve what I do on the footy field.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Like that moment you pass me and I kick the easy goal against Chitty Gully, you know, eyes up, you didn't go for that goal.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You look for that pass and that's something that you're not a selfish player, you're a team player and, yes, you get pressured, but then something's not right and yeah, so Correct, bj.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You know, when I eventually eventually retired and I don't know what 10 years time probably, you know, I could be coach of the inclusive footy for kenilworth, you know, but that's not for a while yet, so hopefully we've got some more players coming through next 10 years time absolutely, and I think you know it's not easy to be a player coach as they you know it's a common thing on for basketball.
- 3:24Speaker 1: You know it's not easy to be a player coach at State.
- 3:25Speaker 1: You know it's a common thing.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm for basketball.
- 3:25Speaker 1: You know it's not easy to do that Brad Kenmore's coaches and players, so it's not easy.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So you normally just play your role, but when you're on the sideline you need to be spoken.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You need to be spoken.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So and I've seen you you have improved.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You know at times we'll make mistakes, but you don't put your head down, you okay.
- 3:45Speaker 1: What do I need to do?
- 3:46Speaker 1: You know.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And being the co-captain, you know it's all muscle memory for you, mate, so you don't have to think about being the captain, you're just a motherfucker on the footy.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So yeah, so well.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Anyway, it's all for.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your time and appreciated.
- 4:02Speaker 1: To come on to the show jesse goodman no worries, bj.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I hope you have a good off season.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I will so that's our first guest, jesse goodman, back in our moon rack.
- 4:14Speaker 1: We are back and to the 2025 hanworth football club s and fowers inclusive singers.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And the next guest, a fella that has awarded the known for the big bird award, which I won last season, and let's bring in ben horn, known as hornet.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Welcome once again to the bj show.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Thanks again, bj, for having me on the show again yeah, so challenges to achievements.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'll go through what challenges you have improved on just the way I play footy.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I've managed to overcome and find ways to execute my behaviour on the footy field rather a few years ago, where I refused to come off field because I was in a heated moment.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Going ways I can stay on the field due to my behavior has been a really big impact because I now know when I get heated I just put my hand up and I'm automatically coming off the field, which is a big achievement for me.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And we'll move on.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So what with the Big Bird Award?
- 5:44Speaker 1: There is a legend to the club and this amazing team at kenworth.
- 5:48Speaker 1: What does the big bird award mean to?
- 5:51Speaker 3: you well, obviously the big bird award is named after a great club legend who used to play inclusive.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Everyone knows him.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Can't miss his voice from the sidelines during game days.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Honestly, it's a first time winning an award in a couple of years.
- 6:09Speaker 1: But yeah.
- 6:10Speaker 3: I'm stoked to be having this award named after a legend of the footy club and you know myself and Big Bird have now retired so hopefully I can have an award named after me many years to come.
- 6:27Speaker 3: So it's an honor having my name under this award.
- 6:32Speaker 1: it's an honor yes, and I think in the future that I'd be congratulating on your footy career, ups and lows.
- 6:41Speaker 1: You know something that I have, you know I only seen you the good ways and that's what I'm only turning in the 43.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But your, your role in defense, you know it's been amazing.
- 6:53Speaker 1: You know you, you have shown your good days and bad days on and off field.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And I, you know I, first up I played defense, then move it forward.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Now I'm more forward now and first up I was played defence, then we move it forward now, more forward now, and first up I was like I can't even kick a goal.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'm more defence, but yeah, but once again, congratulations on your career at Only Play for Kenilworth.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, how many seasons 10 seasons and it has my game total to 103.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So 100 games, an incredible achievement over 10 years.
- 7:27Speaker 1: You know it's not easy to do, you're.
- 7:29Speaker 1: You know, over the time you've done 150, but you know now, back in mind, that I think 100 games is incredible, you know, uh, yeah, so I think, and I know you do, I know you enjoy playing football, as you'll hear from jesse din.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That's a silly question, but I think it is love playing footy, but you know, but you know it's a pleasure to have you on the show, ben.
- 7:53Speaker 1: And yeah, thank you again.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Thanks again, ben, for having me on.
- 7:58Speaker 1: No worries, that is ben hornet.
- 8:00Speaker 1: There's maybe one ben at the club, but playing on the on the field it's gonna be a lot easier.
- 8:05Speaker 1: But that's okay.
- 8:06Speaker 1: That's, I guess, ben horn.
- 8:08Speaker 1: See you soon back in a moment.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Welcome back.
- 8:11Speaker 1: We have a, the mama famous 23, and he has not done it for so long.
- 8:16Speaker 1: He is being off with injury and he's come back just before the big dance.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Let's just bring it.
- 8:23Speaker 1: It in.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Alex Lynn, mate Linny, welcome once again to the BJ Shows.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Best and fairest Cheers, mate.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Thanks for inviting me on the show.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Oh any, time mate.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So your achievements.
- 8:37Speaker 1: You know it's not much to say, you know it's not in your way of wording, not much.
- 8:43Speaker 1: But give me one word you have improved this season.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Not a lot, I guess, but helping the team and kicking a few goals, that's perfect.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And challenge of injury.
- 8:55Speaker 1: You know that has to be the big thing Missing football, be on the sideline.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You know, yeah, I can't really A mother legend like yourself, mate, and you've been here for a long time 10 years so you know ben horn for a long time.
- 9:13Speaker 1: He's up and downs and achievement that.
- 9:16Speaker 1: You've seen, ben horn and yourself, 100 games.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I have to.
- 9:20Speaker 1: We spoke this off the air, everyone to the air, my 100 games achievement.
- 9:25Speaker 1: What you've done is amazing and it's incredible.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Tell me one thing from now, since your 100th game.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Just the development of the team and being included with the seniors has been a lot, and you're part of helping out at the football club.
- 9:44Speaker 1: It's been a lot and you're part of helping out, you know, at the football club.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It's achievement.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That's my favourite part of you.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You always put your time in, you know, and you know you're here like 9 o'clock in the morning, you know.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Thanks a lot, bj.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Yeah, on a Saturday, you know so someone that you, I know for a long time are well enoughurday, you know so someone that you, I know for a long time well enough, you know, when you hear goal, you always have a good moment, but not a lot this season, which is annoying with injury.
- 10:14Speaker 1: But is that your only injury playing dream football?
- 10:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and except my wrist.
- 10:20Speaker 1: A few years ago.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, about three, two years ago yeah, so someone that is proof on and off the field, you know, has come back slowly, but you'll be back ready to go for pre-season mate.
- 10:34Speaker 4: You know I had a good time having a few beers though, watching the boys, Of course.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And that someone that he absolutely in the presentation.
- 10:43Speaker 1: That is my favourite moment with you know, you and Ben at the second break.
- 10:48Speaker 1: That proves to me that you're still mates outside of the football club.
- 10:52Speaker 1: You still catch up and that's you know.
- 10:54Speaker 1: That's history, memories.
- 10:56Speaker 1: But you may not remember that photo being taken having a lot of drinks.
- 11:00Speaker 1: No, I remember it.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you remember that's important, that's the important part, but thank you so much.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Drinks.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Nah, I remember.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you remember that's impossible, that's important part, but but thank you so much.
- 11:06Speaker 1: It's more and more on there, like you just come on board, you know, this season, a lot more interviews this year and that's something I mean my goal has been work on and someone that you know.
- 11:19Speaker 1: That grand final week when we had the pre-game entertainment on the bj show and that's someone that you know, the grand, at the grand final and at the train session you're always there for a quick chat.
- 11:32Speaker 1: So thank you so much, linny.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We'll get on to our next guest, all right, but thank you once again.
- 11:39Speaker 1: We'll speak soon, all right, see you, mate all right mate, all right.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Thanks for having me.
- 11:44Speaker 1: No worries, that is Linny Back in a moment.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Hello, welcome back.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Yes, we've got a legend he's retirement but he's still here.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:54Speaker 1: We're going to speak a few, you know, in your eyesight, of the season Not playing, but who, in your sight, has improved footy Kenworth, inclusive this footy season at Kenworth?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Bj.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Thank you, that's a and I would like to the Big Bird Award Ben Horne.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:16Speaker 1: You know how important to give the award to Ben Horne.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Pretty important.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Yep, look, it's someone that, like I, won it last year.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and they shared team spirits.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That's someone your voice will be missing at Kilburn.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Now you can't get that.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I understand trouble and that, but when you were there at the grand final and oh my goodness you were there yeah, something we can't Quite a laugh?
- 12:43Speaker 1: I think.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I think it does.
- 12:48Speaker 1: You're right there, mate, and it's.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I'm great honored to have you, though I should call myself big bad junior.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but I don't have a voice like that because I'll lose my voice.
- 12:56Speaker 1: But in the way of spirit, yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So one more question, and, in your view, how much this Green Final meant to you overall?
- 13:05Speaker 1: A hundred percent.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a bit sad.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Yeah, my last game was a Grand Final 223.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 1: So look someone.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Well, you've been at many games, you know.
- 13:18Speaker 1: You said Goodwood.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Yeah, as you're one of your memorable games at Goodwood.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah, as you're one of your memorable games at Woodward.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Do you think the grand final could be another good game from this year as your memory?
- 13:30Speaker 1: yeah so, look, it's a great honour to have you on another year, hopefully doing the, and more and more.
- 13:39Speaker 1: You know your.
- 13:40Speaker 1: You know 20 years in the rugby team.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You know we can just talk hours and hours about that.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Out of the coaches, you can't count Chris Cox, yeah, what is your favourite coach when you're playing football?
- 13:56Speaker 2: I've got probably two.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Nick, nick Plum, yeah, and Joel Stiltz first coach.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So Nick Plum is your second.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, john St your second, yeah, john Schultz, yeah Right.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Three grand finals in a row.
- 14:09Speaker 1: For John Schultz?
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you can say that.
- 14:11Speaker 1: So, and what was one more question before we go, big Bird, what was your best position Like?
- 14:18Speaker 1: What position you played the most playing your time playing football?
- 14:22Speaker 1: Right, right, so, and used to be a nine aside, yeah, so they improved to make a nine to 18.
- 14:30Speaker 1: You know a lot more running.
- 14:30Speaker 1: You know you're part of part of that, yeah and yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 1: So anyway, big bird, thank you so much for your time.
- 14:37Speaker 1: It's been an honor.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yeah, you know.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Another year, hopefully more time yes no worries, that is our guest, big bird.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Thank you, and we'll be back in a moment.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Welcome back and many great regular guests here on the bj show.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And we're here first time, coach, we if you listen to the fella I'm going to interview again from halfway through the year.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Now let's welcome back chris or mother interview on on the BJ show.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Welcome thank you, bj all right.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So oh, what a season big season.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Uh, amazing.
- 15:13Speaker 1: What's been the achievement since you coach at Kenworth for the inclusive team?
- 15:19Speaker 5: a big achievement, I think the biggest achievement is bringing us together as a group.
- 15:23Speaker 5: I think that was the big thing after last season and and seeing where we we kind of ended last year was that we needed to come together and build that community and culture and that care, and I think we've really done that.
- 15:33Speaker 5: Be clearly honest.
- 15:34Speaker 5: I think that's the big thing for me and, yeah, we made the grand final, which again I think, ticked the box that I didn't expect this year, which I was stoked about.
- 15:41Speaker 5: But again, I think success comes through individual growth of the people where we're around and to be able to grow together and get to a grand final.
- 15:49Speaker 5: That's what you want.
- 15:50Speaker 5: So I think we really set the building block.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And enter the achieve.
- 15:55Speaker 1: The challenges go through.
- 15:57Speaker 1: You know what has been the challenge for being coaching for the first time at footy season at Kenwood.
- 16:05Speaker 5: I think challenges is a big one.
- 16:07Speaker 5: There's a lot of challenges here, I think.
- 16:09Speaker 5: A few times I've had chats with everyone this year and kind of established that when you're only one person and you're coaching 26 players, you can get a bit full on and you're trying to deal with people's emotions and kind of moderate their expectations as well.
- 16:23Speaker 5: So the big challenge has been working with people here, but also the off-field stuff, trying to work alongside other clubs and trying to build our reputation.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Yeah, it's been a challenging year.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Yes, and you know we spoke on off-the-field team spirit and you know we've had our chats through the season and you know, first time in any coach is actually like I do engage, it doesn't matter if it's Ray Kimmerus, jesse Goodman, they are our own field coach and I love no other.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I don't think any other team in the Inclusive League can have that and it's worked.
- 17:00Speaker 1: You know we've had our ups and downs, you know.
- 17:02Speaker 1: But help me as a hearing feedback from South Chris, why I've got team spirit because I do listen, why I want to improve myself.
- 17:14Speaker 1: We want to learn everyday life and football is when Brendan Butler said on the group chat said mud sweat, don't be afraid to get mud.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I didn't get fed.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Good, chat said mud wet, don't be afraid to get mud.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I didn't get food because he said that and I was like I don't want.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I think I prefer playing the wet than in the, in the dry, because it's more hard worker.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Like, why don't you personal training with damien, which will be a month against a month of time?
- 17:40Speaker 1: You know, I know him for over so long and I used to work like a gym.
- 17:44Speaker 1: So known him for over so long and I used to work at a gym.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So, knowing him for so long, that drank stuff I had proved, you know, was, hey, he's a personal trainer.
- 17:52Speaker 1: He'd train me up Something that I knew what I needed to do.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Okay, we're going to do some hip work with the weight, yeah, and put my feet in the air in the squat, and that's not easy to do.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So he's guided me through that and he'll.
- 18:06Speaker 1: You know, he's a good personal trainer.
- 18:08Speaker 1: You know that's what he does for a job.
- 18:10Speaker 1: So, and it's fantastic and that's something that you know player like jay's encouraged me.
- 18:16Speaker 1: But in when we did the pre-season that's something I enjoyed I told them do sled, but that's not easy to do I'll play for just a shout out.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Quick shout out to play, because they-out.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Quick shout-out to PlayFit, because they were amazing in our pre-season to get us in.
- 18:29Speaker 5: Allow us to use their centre and their resources in those sessions.
- 18:33Speaker 5: I think that definitely set the foundation.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And I think that I know it's a long travel and you know it is a costly event, but it's worth it if you are you want to achieve some goals.
- 18:49Speaker 1: But I have my personal trainer to do that and it's not far.
- 18:52Speaker 1: But where we went it's a little bit too far for me to travel and I live on this side of Adelaide, not the other side, but it was every moment.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I'll be there ready to go.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I remember the first couple of sessions.
- 19:11Speaker 1: There was almost everyone there and that's fantastic Everyone giving it a go, high fives, no negatives, and it worked.
- 19:18Speaker 1: So, like I said, playfix fantastic.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Hopefully we can do that season because I think that is an one step better.
- 19:26Speaker 1: It's fantastic.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And hopefully we can do that season because I think that is one step better.
- 19:29Speaker 1: It's better.
- 19:30Speaker 1: One thing I've learned is to learn the hard way to improve yourself than the easy way.
- 19:35Speaker 1: You know you put your body off, you know out of your comfort zone.
- 19:38Speaker 1: That's something I've actually liked.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It makes you think more than I think.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So when we did PlayFit, I was like, yeah, it's a more personal training, I think so.
- 19:46Speaker 1: When we did play feet, I was like, yeah, it's another personal training session, but it's a great session.
- 19:50Speaker 1: So the one I love in the play feet was actually the dot.
- 19:54Speaker 1: So, yeah, the yeah, that was cool and and it's back and it's quite a basketball, yeah, yeah.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So agility and agility, yeah so it's the iq of fitness and fitness and you're cheering on all that.
- 20:05Speaker 1: All goes behind that.
- 20:07Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 20:08Speaker 1: And the sleds, everything goes through it, not too out of challenge, but challenge enough everyone to know that wants to improve.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And when we saw the powerpoint tonight, I saw Richie on the side and my goodness, he almost beat me.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Yep, so something that a lot of them have improved from.
- 20:30Speaker 1: You know, what can we do better?
- 20:32Speaker 5: yeah, and look, and I think from the start of the year there's not one player on our team that I I can't say has put in effort to improve.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Everyone has pushed themselves to not just be better at football and physically, but again emotionally and socially, it's definitely been a good year and I think overall, you know the 20th year anniversary we had a decent amount.
- 20:53Speaker 1: You know a reason, amount you know come out.
- 20:55Speaker 1: You know, one more player playing for my other football club was in the full full-time team, 20th team, and came from that game.
- 21:04Speaker 1: So dennis shout out dennis christian.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Oh my, he good player, oh, very good player.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And someone, uh, you know I played, I signed him when I came, yeah, and he was a very good footballer.
- 21:16Speaker 1: You know he had his you know health and stuff.
- 21:19Speaker 1: He won't go through that, but I think, you know, I think you know when he retired he wants to come back and play a game.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It's like okay, but we know he was gonna be, you know, always gonna be retired.
- 21:28Speaker 1: He wants to come back and play again.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It's like okay, but we know he was going to be, you know, always going to be.
- 21:31Speaker 1: You know he goes in.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Last time we played him he goes in hard in the wet and he was like all over.
- 21:36Speaker 1: That's how amazing he plays and he's not a player who's not going to, you know, elbow anyone.
- 21:48Speaker 5: He's higher, that he goes in and play for yeah, I think the key is like I think we spoke about a lot in the change rooms was hard but fair.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Yes, because hard football doesn't mean just brutally hurting people, that's right.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Hard means about how you use your brain, how you position yourself and how you work harder on the field to do those little things that get your team into better positions.
- 22:04Speaker 5: One percent is that's 100 and that's what jordan plum.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Well, that's what jordan plum I know jordan plum from school, yes, from cabaret days, and there's another thing we've been talking for hours was jordan, but someone that he's how he coached before you came on board and you know the.
- 22:22Speaker 1: You know, when you came on board it was okay, we've got a lot of work to do, but you're an assistant so you can't do too much.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Then you came on board and you fixed it.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It's like you're starting a book and then halfway in the book, okay, there's an hour and then end the book to end the season.
- 22:38Speaker 1: That's exactly what you've done.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So you know I've been here five seasons and four grand finals, three loss and two won and you know, in one mission that was 2024.
- 22:51Speaker 1: So something that not a lot in a football career is very unusual, really unusual to do so.
- 22:58Speaker 1: And then two big birds and then team spirit.
- 23:02Speaker 1: So in five years and then adding nine goals in 69 games.
- 23:07Speaker 1: You know that's not a lot for an all-rounder midfielder and forward.
- 23:12Speaker 1: So I've had, you know he put me a lot more forward than I think That'd be better for me.
- 23:17Speaker 1: You know, the fence like cracked to Jimmy Taylor, like as someone that I've told him you'll go up a goalkeeper and Jared Miller.
- 23:27Speaker 5: Bradley Bettens.
- 23:27Speaker 1: And Bradley Bettens Amazing.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Ben.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Horne.
- 23:32Speaker 5: I'm proud of our defenders.
- 23:34Speaker 1: You know we've got to miss Ben Horne as well and I spoke to him about how much the war Big Bird, you know, we spoke just during the year and I said Ben Horne, this is someone that, yes, he's had his up and down, but what he's put with the club big time.
- 23:48Speaker 1: And I was right he's giving us 100.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Yeah, you called it.
- 23:52Speaker 5: You called it pre-game when I asked you.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Yes, who you thought the uh odds on favorite was, I don't know when I did.
- 23:57Speaker 5: I did smile to myself.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Then I thought, yep, you're right there, right there, and you know, I have seen in my five years I I've seen Ben Horne at the angry point and then this year I've barely seen it.
- 24:10Speaker 1: It proves to himself that he can control it and he can now chill, play football.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know, be active but do not have to play the sport.
- 24:19Speaker 1: You know, like someone, like Big Bird, you can't pass challenge of loudness as Big Bird and he was on grand final day he was challenging, he was he's the, he's the, the piece of a mascot, yeah, and he's not there.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Struggle, and I noticed that this year as well.
- 24:36Speaker 1: You know, and we can't honor, but that he's the only one is loud and in the crowd.
- 24:42Speaker 1: So you know someone, you know what's going to happen big bird, you know what happens to him.
- 24:48Speaker 5: He's going to be that voice yeah, look, and just to touch on that, that's the thing that I want to bring into our future seasons.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Here is with the work that I do within the disability community is I want to build that cheer squad for our team, and there's a lot of people out there with disabilities that can't play or they don't want to play, but they love football.
- 25:05Speaker 5: So why are we not the team that they come and watch, is my question.
- 25:08Speaker 5: So I am in talks with different people around trying to create a bit of a cheer team, so then we can yeah, in the future, have our squad, have our cookers crew.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Oh mate.
- 25:17Speaker 5: How nice would that be.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So another thing I want to another part of this league they're to a mother part of this league they're not going to be entering I don't know anytime soon, but a fella who volunteers at the Blackpool community has a son who has autism at Morphy Park named the Woo Squad.
- 25:36Speaker 1: So with their development squad they're not entering the comp because he's a contact sport and it's amazing that they had two players.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Now they have twin players.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 25:48Speaker 1: And it's a very cultured club.
- 25:52Speaker 1: So and I said to them amazing, like how you know a fella that he doesn't coach.
- 25:57Speaker 1: He'd like general management team present that part of and that's fantastic.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I was like we need to get a team together, one of the girls team from Morpheus and we need.
- 26:08Speaker 1: You know, it's amazing, you know there's so much you know word out.
- 26:12Speaker 1: We want a team to bring in this form.
- 26:15Speaker 1: You know that tells who that people are looking.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Do you have people with disabilities can play this sport?
- 26:23Speaker 5: yeah, yeah, 100%.
- 26:24Speaker 5: And look, I spent 12 years working in the Department of Education in disability units and disability classes and there's some talented kids out there that can play football really big time.
- 26:33Speaker 5: A little quick shout-out to Matthew Yanima he was an absolute freak.
- 26:38Speaker 5: The stuff that we would do at recess and lunch I don't know, how I think individual pathways, people go in different directions and it didn't head for him, but the stuff that he could do.
- 26:47Speaker 5: I've not seen people that are neurotypical do what they do with the football.
- 26:51Speaker 5: So, yeah, there's some talent out there.
- 26:53Speaker 5: I'll give you the hot tip.
- 26:54Speaker 5: Do you want the scoop?
- 26:55Speaker 5: Do you want a bit of scoop, bj?
- 26:57Speaker 5: Yeah, a bit of goss.
- 26:58Speaker 5: We at Kenilworth Football Club have just put forward for a $10,000 grant to build an inclusive development program linking in with the Department of Education.
- 27:06Speaker 5: So that is something that we're trying to push and something on the horizon and we want to create that next pathway for people to come through that and be involved at Kenilworth Football Club.
- 27:16Speaker 1: And that's something, that Bit of scoop, yeah, well, it's fantastic and something that you know what Kenilworth means to me it's yeah, I'm believed down the road all that.
- 27:27Speaker 1: But I think from day one I entered.
- 27:31Speaker 1: It's different today and I think we're very individual women's juniors very much.
- 27:37Speaker 1: We're seniors separate, and that was not.
- 27:40Speaker 1: That's how.
- 27:41Speaker 1: It's a mainstream environment.
- 27:42Speaker 1: We don't work like that.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I went to Cabaret and I tell you right now they were very much included.
- 27:48Speaker 1: There's a day in August called St Dominic's Day and something that my last two years I did.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I love being there and one song was Jay Ho.
- 27:58Speaker 1: They called me Ben Ho.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I won the best audience award.
- 28:02Speaker 1: It was cast by.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Second year was Michael Jackson.
- 28:06Speaker 1: No problems at all, just me to perform on stage.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Yeah, out of my comfort zone is not easy.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It's like playing football in front of a big crowd.
- 28:15Speaker 1: It's no different If it's theatre or music, playing all that.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And there's an interview.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I was in part of the St Mary's unit at Cabra.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Yeah, we weren't just part of the unit, we were part of the school, but they've now moved slightly.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Do you know a lady called Nadia Fantasia?
- 28:34Speaker 5: Name sounds familiar.
- 28:35Speaker 1: She was my first teacher when I was started at Capra.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, she now does that kind of ROM like mentoring with her.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Brian, they live in Nor norwood and they do their own social and fitness.
- 28:49Speaker 1: So for teens and adults, I've got them on social media.
- 28:53Speaker 1: It's their own family business, something that you know.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Fantastic, it should be great.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I said my brother, matt, used to junior days play for more people, just live out that.
- 29:04Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Not far from the Gullies Footy Club.
- 29:07Speaker 1: So every time I go through that area it's like memory lane Because I have no idea where I'm going, especially at night time, you know, or even late in the day.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I know the roads but I brought you not far from my younger brother, daniel.
- 29:21Speaker 1: He lives in the area, so nearly was that, but not where to go.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I like to have this.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Not gps cannot stand the gps.
- 29:30Speaker 1: But gotta use the brain use the brain and something that, yeah, it's value.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Like I said, like if anyone's interested it's great, but you've got to be part of the inclusive team.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Don't let them out, because one important part like which was very strong with that culture I went and watched when we didn't play came and it happened.
- 29:51Speaker 1: It tells me that the culture, the club was doing very well.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so like one there be.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I saw on facebook there be c grade coaches resign, stepping down.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Tell me that they develop so well they bring a new coach and that Penworth done.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Saw on Facebook.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Someone's a legend, you know, scott Wyson should have him on the show.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Bad, they get to know him before they're on the show.
- 30:15Speaker 1: But someone sign him up absolutely.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And I think someone is a Penworth on different clubs.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You know it's a fantastic club, it's a great culture.
- 30:31Speaker 1: You know, get back on.
- 30:33Speaker 1: You know, yes, we've gone down to Div 5, but we've done our wee build.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Let's get back on.
- 30:38Speaker 1: And we know what Kenilworth plays at Kenilworth.
- 30:42Speaker 5: Come to fly high.
- 30:42Speaker 5: Let's get it.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so anyway.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Thank you, BJ.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Thanks for having me on, no worries it, it's been an honour and hopefully you're coaching again.
- 30:51Speaker 5: That's what they tell me.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Yes, Okay.
- 30:52Speaker 5: A lot could happen between now and then.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Bj, there's no scoop there.
- 30:57Speaker 1: No, no, we're not going to, but thank you again.
- 30:59Speaker 1: You know, like I said, on the Innspec Pay Grand Final which Chris Scott from Geelong, first year as coach, won a partnership, yeah.
- 31:09Speaker 1: That doesn't happen very often, not in AFL.
- 31:11Speaker 1: I think that's the only history of all time that someone's done that in AFL A very huge club has done.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Hopefully they'll do well in the finals.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Because they're my second team.
- 31:23Speaker 1: There's something about my 21st, chris.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I don't really remember.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I had enough to dream about Something about Geelong and Sexy, because they're very good with their football.
- 31:34Speaker 1: So where Sexy Football is, they're just very skilled.
- 31:39Speaker 1: So when I hear Sexy, I was like I haven't heard that word for so long.
- 31:43Speaker 1: So that's why I like them as that.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I don't know, and it's not that they win punishments.
- 31:49Speaker 5: No, it's the style and the way they play.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Yeah, the style and the culture.
- 31:52Speaker 1: And I heard from other players that play at Geelong.
- 31:56Speaker 1: It's their culture, it's how they play together.
- 31:58Speaker 1: It's like when we were at pre-season at the beginning you don't like each other off, but when you're on and they can pay for their state, this is their professional jobs you respect.
- 32:10Speaker 1: That's what we did all year.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, big time.
- 32:12Speaker 1: I wish to say about 75%, 80%.
- 32:15Speaker 1: We trust each other.
- 32:16Speaker 1: 20%.
- 32:17Speaker 1: We had bad training, which is incredible.
- 32:20Speaker 5: I'm excited to see how the state team go.
- 32:21Speaker 5: Well, we've got seven reps.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Seven.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I think that's the most.
- 32:26Speaker 5: And I think that's going to help the state team because they're connected, they know how they play.
- 32:30Speaker 5: Yeah, the state team, because they're connected, they know how they play.
- 32:32Speaker 5: I think it's going to help.
- 32:32Speaker 5: I think it's.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm excited to see how it goes.
- 32:34Speaker 1: You know, having seven Australian, not Australian state players for this club is huge, I'm honoured to have.
- 32:43Speaker 1: You know, we do have our regulars, all regulars, actually, same players so.
- 32:55Speaker 1: And Alex Scott, you know, know, recruit him, you know, amazing player, but yeah, so anyway, chris, we're gonna wrap it up here, but thank you so much for your time and and since you've been part of kenilworth, you know, inspires me that, you know, the only like, like I said, only the only coach in football has shown me and tre Trevor has seen it as well.
- 33:13Speaker 1: You know improvement, you know it doesn't work overnight, especially football.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You know I've had my, you know my downfalls.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Then, wow, you have improved.
- 33:22Speaker 1: This is something now you know.
- 33:24Speaker 1: What do I want to improve?
- 33:26Speaker 1: You know, and when, that little fading moment when Trevor pulled a few kicking, that's what, okay.
- 33:32Speaker 1: So he did that eyes down, you know that rush, and Trevor pulled a few over and got some kicking skills done and that helped a lot.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Yeah, big time, and I think so.
- 33:44Speaker 1: And then I can kick a full.
- 33:46Speaker 1: But you know, hopefully, you know, two more years and I can get to the 100 game.
- 33:52Speaker 5: I do, we'll get there.
- 33:54Speaker 1: We'll get there.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I'm in a very good way.
- 33:55Speaker 5: It'll be under me as a coach, which I'll appreciate.
- 33:57Speaker 5: I'll enjoy that game, so, yeah, anyway, yeah, thanks for having me on, no worries, that's our guest, chris Cox.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Hello, welcome, we're back.
- 34:07Speaker 1: We this fella.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Show me that.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Shows me that he can defend, he can play soccer if he wants.
- 34:15Speaker 1: So that voice is Jimmy Taylor Mate.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Welcome again.
- 34:19Speaker 6: Thanks for having me back on this beautiful show of yours, mate, and thanks for the introduction too.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I like it.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So have you ever played soccer?
- 34:29Speaker 6: I have played soccer mate back in the primary school days.
- 34:32Speaker 6: In primary school and I was a defender myself and I was a left back and I was a St John's grammar Shout out to them.
- 34:39Speaker 6: But like we won every game except the grand final, and that's how it feels bro.
- 34:47Speaker 1: So how can I?
- 34:48Speaker 1: You're wrong.
- 34:49Speaker 1: This year, like I can tell you, desi got that defense skill and it's work.
- 34:56Speaker 1: You know, chris has put you in that role and it's work.
- 34:59Speaker 1: It comes.
- 34:59Speaker 1: You were to say muscle memory for you, mate yeah, I've got a bit of muscle memory mate and yes, it took a bit of time understand.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I was like, you know what to do.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I was like, yes, I do straight away.
- 35:11Speaker 1: So what is the achievement?
- 35:13Speaker 6: you have improved this full season at kenwood I think I've proved on like just trying to get around the boys still and just trying to keep it as a tight group as best as I can and just trying to keep everyone's like head level straight, because with the chandler brothers when they would go off I'd have to like get them together and try and pull their heads in and just trying to tell them and listen.
- 35:38Speaker 6: Get them to listen to me and they would do what they were told and keep getting the job done absolutely.
- 35:44Speaker 1: And challenges this season.
- 35:47Speaker 1: What challenge have you, like you improved at Kenilworth this footy season?
- 35:52Speaker 6: Well, there's a lot of challenges mentally and physically.
- 35:57Speaker 6: I'm trying to mentally keep physically healthy the best I can.
- 36:01Speaker 6: I'm trying to keep up my footy skills.
- 36:04Speaker 6: But that sometimes is hard with the season and with how the league goes as well, because we don't play as much footy as we can, because, like it's only like a yearly thing and then we have breaks in between.
- 36:18Speaker 6: So it is hard, but like and all that and trying to see the boys outside of like footy is hard, but we coaches Chris is trying to get to these social things outside as well, like in a few more years maybe, hopefully.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Absolutely, and you know you don't have to go to a nightclub, Jimmy Taylor, Something like you do do.
- 36:44Speaker 6: Well, bj, I haven't done that for about a few months now.
- 36:47Speaker 6: Man, I've been trying to stay out the party scene.
- 36:50Speaker 6: I've been trying to just work hard and trying to stay out the uh, out the party scene.
- 36:52Speaker 6: I've been trying to just work hard and trying to go to the gym and just keep working and getting those getting the money and paying the bills that's the whole idea, mate.
- 37:01Speaker 1: You do you know, because it's not you want to do it.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I've never been that point and I'm past that now you know it's not good, like no physically and like it's not good like physically and like it's not good for your liver or basically for anything in your body.
- 37:15Speaker 6: So yeah just trying to, trying to trying to keep true, keep out the the party the party noise and I think that you will get better as a mature person and your voice I think this year has.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Yeah, now your voice this year, you know it's been amazing.
- 37:33Speaker 1: You know playing a little bit that fence at salisbury and not knowing what I was supposed to do.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Then I said, okay, I need to be in line with if I was playing half back, yeah, and that's where I was.
- 37:45Speaker 1: So tells me that I only play a very small role, that I I it up, yeah, but something that I it's like I was saying we were going forward.
- 37:55Speaker 1: It's like the same way.
- 37:56Speaker 1: So you know you're, you know we know each other from basketball.
- 37:59Speaker 1: So it's, you know, from a basketball background to a football background, I've seen you in this role and that's why I said goalkeeper, because you've got a mother, you know, you've got a backup to take that role, that's right, and you've got two goalkeepers and you've got to be the best defence in the comp.
- 38:20Speaker 1: You're like I like pressure.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:22Speaker 1: You've got to be one of the best in the comp, which can be quite scary, but it tells and proves.
- 38:28Speaker 1: You know, we stopped a lot of those goals and the game against Kilburn at Kenilworth proves that you stop a lot of their goals, yeah yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Which is not easy to do.
- 38:38Speaker 1: No, it's not easy and you know I'm really happy that.
- 38:42Speaker 1: You know I've been part of.
- 38:44Speaker 1: You know you've been a bit long at Kenilworth but surely you'll be at 100 games.
- 38:49Speaker 6: Well, I'll be.
- 38:50Speaker 6: Maybe not next year, but the year after.
- 38:53Speaker 6: It might be 100 games, because I've played over 50, but no one told me about it until I found out, maybe this year, and no one's given me any rewards or anything for it or anything like that.
- 39:09Speaker 6: But I'm fine with that and I'll just keep doing what I need to do because mentally I've like, mentally I try and turn myself, I try and have a routine and I try and to just keep doing like keeping the routine, like before every game, like get up and like just trying to do stretches or have a good, healthy breakfast.
- 39:30Speaker 6: You know that and I'm just and mentally, like come, come to the club, like come to the ovals and just listen to your music and just stay in your like, stay in your routine and stuff, and that's what we need to do as well.
- 39:44Speaker 6: But, like, we need to have more of a motto, like logo, like we're gonna have like a slogan or something just for like for an inclusive team, and I would like to have one what like a slogan and like a motto and like have a saying before we go out or like during, like when we're out there as well.
- 40:02Speaker 6: So that would be like another thing, like mentally for us to keep going and proving, proving yeah, yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 1: So you know, keep yourself, nutrition and well-being is number one, and number one is sleep.
- 40:15Speaker 1: That's.
- 40:15Speaker 1: That's something that everyone needs to be.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Remember.
- 40:18Speaker 1: You know, no matter what, what level, what competition it is, sleep is number one.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Not before, that's right.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And get up, stretch, something that chris scott has told you the night before the grand final.
- 40:31Speaker 6: Yes, he did tell me that.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Yes and I listened to him and.
- 40:35Speaker 6: I even stretched in the morning mate.
- 40:37Speaker 1: So yeah, so proves that, yes, he's my defender, he's my main defender.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Stretch, don't be ready to go.
- 40:45Speaker 1: He doesn't say ready to go.
- 40:46Speaker 1: You stretch up, you do what you need to do.
- 40:49Speaker 6: The end Well for fitness, like we need to like start improving our cardio more like in the preseason.
- 40:57Speaker 6: Yeah, you agree, and you need to like do it on your own.
- 41:01Speaker 6: You can't do it on the oval, you've got to do it on your own, because when I go, when I'm by myself, I go to the gym two to three times a week and I'm there for about a good old nearly an hour and a half, two hours just doing weights, and then half the session I can do just cardio and that keeps me my mental like heavily balanced.
- 41:23Speaker 6: I try and balance it out, so that's what I do.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yes, and you love the pose, mate.
- 41:28Speaker 1: That's something that mate going to it and that's incredible, you know.
- 41:33Speaker 6: Well, do you know how long I've been at the gym?
- 41:34Speaker 6: For now boss, Too long.
- 41:36Speaker 6: Ten years, mate.
- 41:37Speaker 6: Yeah, ten years.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I can tell you a little bit about a small part of me.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Something that I first saw was KFC and that was just an awful moment.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Then Blackpool Fitness came and you know something that closed the home, yes, and they offered me a wild job cleaning the gym equipment.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Excuse me, but it got me into doing classes and something that Zumba is very good cardio.
- 42:03Speaker 1: It's not easy, but I've done strong Zumba so I'll give you a little bit of down for strong Zumba if anyone is listening out, but it's a cardio burnout exercise and I think everyone should try it.
- 42:18Speaker 1: It is not easy, but it's doing burpees.
- 42:21Speaker 1: It's doing those kind of movements mate with music, good fun.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But my goodness, I had a Fitbit actually burn.
- 42:29Speaker 1: It died on me because I overheated with the wrist.
- 42:33Speaker 6: So is it just like a PC, is it?
- 42:36Speaker 1: I know it's actually an actual class.
- 42:38Speaker 1: It was music and my goodness it was so hard but it was so much fun.
- 42:45Speaker 1: And pre-season, I expect to be easy, because you're not expected to be easy.
- 42:50Speaker 1: You post, you know you get back in it slowly, but you want to, you know, get that with that, as they know, grand final hangover.
- 42:57Speaker 1: So well then, the plenty of should get that grand final hangover.
- 43:01Speaker 6: So we will get our revenge, as they say that's right, we'll get our revenge because remember, remember back talking to you in the last show um, I was, with that, one point, lost about with eastern pie.
- 43:13Speaker 6: We've got to have our revenge again but, against against.
- 43:16Speaker 6: Maybe another team could be coming next year, who knows, we don't know.
- 43:20Speaker 6: So whatever happens next year will happen next year, but that's not happened yet.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Wait until next year, we'll show our colors again and I think mostly this season.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I think overall, how I see it, we've had a few moments, some really bad moments, but overall I think the team has stuck by.
- 43:41Speaker 1: You know, have your moments, have your individual moments, but when no phones, chris has never said that.
- 43:47Speaker 1: All year we've been new.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Chris Jordan said that so many times no phones, no phones no phones pay attention.
- 43:54Speaker 1: And that's where you know when Brad Batten's share by his 200 game.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Good old bet, someone that he may may not be the great as he used to be, but he can still do it.
- 44:05Speaker 1: He against Atherston, he'll verse the best.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Jefferson, he'll verse the best.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Won, their best players not kick goals.
- 44:11Speaker 6: Him and Jared together are such a duo in the back line.
- 44:15Speaker 6: I love them being the back line with me and Alisco oh what a back line I've got with those boys and shout out to them as well.
- 44:26Speaker 1: And absolutely we know Ben Horne now.
- 44:28Speaker 1: So we'll find a replacement.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll find a replacement.
- 44:32Speaker 1: That's always a replacement to come through.
- 44:35Speaker 6: Chris, a shout-out to you and Trevor, you guys will I know you guys will find more players and we just got to keep what we have to do and I love what this club does for us.
- 44:47Speaker 6: I love what the club does for like the whole grade, absolutely.
- 44:51Speaker 6: And since I've been here I've like loved it.
- 44:53Speaker 6: Like I came here as a seven-year-old BJ Wow and I was astounded by how much support from then and then I had like such a long break and coming back, since I was like maybe 21 or something, 22, been here since 2018, mate.
- 45:13Speaker 1: You're a bit longer than me mate.
- 45:14Speaker 6: Yeah, but I've played all positions on the field and Chris has stuck me just in the back line and I'm happy.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Wherever, whatever the team needs, I'll be there, mate.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yes, and I know I've seen you play a bit a lot, but showing up to shoot, go get me into football without him.
- 45:33Speaker 1: You know, football cooker, you know that would be now respect, but someone that, yeah.
- 45:38Speaker 1: So anyway, we're going to hang, end this episode, but thank you so much for your time, jimmy.
- 45:45Speaker 1: It's been a pleasure and we'll speak soon.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Thanks, mate.
- 45:49Speaker 1: All right, we hope there's a lot more guests here on the BJ Show back in a moment.
- 45:53Speaker 1: We're done, we're back.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Final guest.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Look how much Amada Regular comes on board and so much, you know.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Oh, anyway, gary, mate, thanks for having me again.
- 46:06Speaker 7: DJ.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Oh, welcome again.
- 46:08Speaker 1: You know you've done your pre-game, pre-game, pre-chat on the BF tonight and generally, you know I'm at a regular, I'm at a supporter and I really appreciate it.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Such as Hornet, you know so many.
- 46:21Speaker 1: You know unfortunately didn't have absolutely everyone on board tonight.
- 46:25Speaker 1: You know, such as, like PJ and Alex Scott, first time Austin, sometimes I get that name wrong when I'm grand final day, but I get told, oh, believe me, without him saying that.
- 46:36Speaker 1: First up the improvements this year.
- 46:41Speaker 1: What achievements you have improved with Kenilworth.
- 46:51Speaker 7: Pretty much playing forward, mainly this year, and I'm happy for Chris for putting me in ford and I played my best and mainly wing and I'm proud of myself.
- 46:56Speaker 7: Where I played this year and I know I didn't put my a game but next year I promised myself I'm gonna put in a game because if you don't it's not gonna be the best?
- 47:04Speaker 1: yeah, yeah, no, absolutely, and there's no right or wrong to be the best, but all you have to do is try your best.
- 47:11Speaker 1: And that's our next question your challenges this season, mate, you know injuries, oh no.
- 47:18Speaker 1: What's the challenge?
- 47:20Speaker 7: improvement since you returned playing football oh, since I had that knee injury.
- 47:25Speaker 7: Oh man, I feel better, good to have the knee back, like even though I had that year off and I missed playing with those boys.
- 47:32Speaker 7: Those boys were last year, were a little bit up and down, but this year we did well, we played, listened to Chris, listened to Brad, listened to Jesse, and next year we're going to promise them, we're going to make sure we win that grand final.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 47:45Speaker 1: We had to work for it and you know, I know you love playing football, that'll.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I know you love playing football.
- 47:49Speaker 1: That would be a matter of question.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Like I said, I told Jesse and I told Ben Horne and I've said anyone else.
- 47:54Speaker 1: But do you enjoy playing footy at Kenilworth?
- 47:59Speaker 7: Always, mate.
- 47:59Speaker 7: It's one of my home clubs.
- 48:00Speaker 7: I had played for Christie's Beach Football Club for the one year in 2022.
- 48:06Speaker 7: That's correct.
- 48:06Speaker 7: And then I came over here because of Alex Ling.
- 48:09Speaker 7: He told me to come over here and I was like, yeah, all right, Can I have a try and see if I make the team?
- 48:14Speaker 7: And I did.
- 48:14Speaker 7: I was just a fraction to get into the team and I did.
- 48:16Speaker 7: I'm proud of myself for that.
- 48:17Speaker 7: Thanks to Alex Ling.
- 48:18Speaker 7: Two shout-outs to Alex Ling.
- 48:20Speaker 7: Thanks, mate, for coming.
- 48:21Speaker 7: Remains me coming out of the kind of work that I've done.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:33Speaker 7: Yeah, that's it.
- 48:34Speaker 7: We've been playing for nearly three years now.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Yeah, three seasons and that's pretty good, and I haven't shot her for almost like 10, feels like 10 years oh that's it, mate.
- 48:43Speaker 1: So I'm a social on the field and then a mother part is not also playing together, like doing that half-forward roll.
- 48:53Speaker 1: You know something that it's worked together, you know, and I knew exactly what I need to do.
- 48:59Speaker 7: And then I'll tell okay, we need to go to this position, and you didn't, you know look at you tonight you got trophy medal and I'm proud of you for that bj and oh, thank you.
- 49:08Speaker 7: Like like I was trying my best this year to get a trophy and or something like that, but I next year I'm gonna try my best to get one, but it's all.
- 49:17Speaker 7: It's all about being the best and but I can't always try my best.
- 49:20Speaker 7: You can't always push yourself to be the best.
- 49:23Speaker 7: If you push yourself, you hurt yourself even more.
- 49:25Speaker 7: But you did very well, peter.
- 49:26Speaker 1: I'm very proud of you, thank you and, like I said I said this several times team spirit's a brand new award for the inclusive team awards and chris has added a bit more responsible awards, not the silly awards this year.
- 49:41Speaker 7: Oh, I agree with that, yes, and.
- 49:42Speaker 1: I think the plumbers have done that.
- 49:44Speaker 1: You know, since Chris Cox has taken over, I think one step better and a mother achievement has come to my footy capman.
- 49:53Speaker 1: I don't know how I can have two club awards and then a team spirit Mate you did very well.
- 49:58Speaker 1: You did like this year you listened.
- 49:59Speaker 7: I don't know how I can have two club awards and then a 10th spirit Mate.
- 50:02Speaker 7: You did very well, remember you did like this year you listened to Chris and Trevor out there.
- 50:04Speaker 7: Like you were one of the best forward players I've seen out there all year.
- 50:07Speaker 7: Like you had like Jeremy.
- 50:08Speaker 7: You had like everyone listening to everyone.
- 50:10Speaker 7: We had Ethan and like I'm proud of Ethan as well, like he did very well.
- 50:14Speaker 7: Both Ethans, yes, both Ethans, okay on behalf of.
- 50:18Speaker 7: Ethan R and Ethan Lindsay.
- 50:20Speaker 7: Yes, they did very well.
- 50:21Speaker 7: Well done you, boys.
- 50:22Speaker 7: I'm very proud of you.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and I want to give a shout.
- 50:25Speaker 1: And there's no out-butt fella that he's gone.
- 50:28Speaker 1: You know everyday life didn't want to play football.
- 50:31Speaker 1: And then we cheer him again and get these awards.
- 50:35Speaker 7: That's it, mate.
- 50:36Speaker 1: And something that you know.
- 50:38Speaker 1: He might not expect to get awards, but that proves us that you know.
- 50:42Speaker 1: We appreciate him, but we all have to respect something is going not right and shared.
- 50:48Speaker 1: We have to do not push him because it puts him more work.
- 50:52Speaker 1: And then that's where the coaches can come in.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Chris is the perfect.
- 50:59Speaker 1: It's not just a coach, he's a mentor for everyone.
- 51:00Speaker 1: And what we did on the footy field and same with you, mate you put your body on the line, no matter what, and you know more than anything, I totally enjoyed.
- 51:09Speaker 1: You know we have our moments, we've had our downs.
- 51:12Speaker 1: That's life.
- 51:13Speaker 1: I agree with you with that, and I think this year we really controlled that.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I agree with you with that and I think this year we really controlled that.
- 51:18Speaker 1: I agree, and I think our chat during the preseason has worked.
- 51:23Speaker 7: I actually agree with that, actually, because we have listened to Chris, we listened to Trevor, we listened to everyone out there, we listened to Silk okay, jesse Kim Ross, everyone.
- 51:31Speaker 7: I'm proud of that for teaching us every week, every Tuesday.
- 51:34Speaker 7: We listen to them.
- 51:36Speaker 7: If we don't listen to them, we don't know what we're playing, because if we don't listen, we lose focus.
- 51:41Speaker 7: And then now, every Sunday, we try to prove to them we can play Kenilworth football, and Kenilworth football is what we're staying, what we can believe in 2026.
- 51:49Speaker 7: I can agree with that.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 51:51Speaker 1: So before you go, look and I haven't said this is the only person I'm going to say this here we go.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Are you going to be there sunday for the uh best?
- 52:00Speaker 1: And?
- 52:00Speaker 7: fairest, inclusively, probably.
- 52:02Speaker 7: Yes, I will be.
- 52:02Speaker 7: Yes, I will be definitely coming out because, because I haven't been there for a long time.
- 52:07Speaker 7: It's been my first time coming out, but I'll do it.
- 52:10Speaker 1: I went last year pretty awesome.
- 52:12Speaker 7: Yeah, it's very simple, but the grand final for the sa nfl, oh sturt or glanel oh, it's gonna be a good one, even though you're nobody couldn't make it, mate, I'm sorry.
- 52:20Speaker 7: Yeah, that's all good, uh, but good, good job for your season.
- 52:24Speaker 7: You did very well.
- 52:25Speaker 7: I'm proud of your norwoods and I'm probably going to go, because it was always my team and I'll agree up now really I'm going for sturt.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Oh, mate, good luck with that I'm only going for the underdog, because that's what Nord were.
- 52:38Speaker 6: That's great.
- 52:39Speaker 1: And I tell you right now I don't really care and respect for it.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Do not disrespect anything.
- 52:45Speaker 1: I'm not really that interested in who wins.
- 52:48Speaker 7: I'll go for the umpires if I'm Big Bird, oh yes, I agree with Big Bird, right there, the umpires always.
- 52:53Speaker 1: But overall and one more question.
- 52:58Speaker 7: AFL, your apprenticeship, that's a very good.
- 52:59Speaker 7: That's for probably go for Geelong for tomorrow and then whoever wins out of Saturday night, the best and fairest Honeywood and Brisbane.
- 53:08Speaker 7: The plane in Melbourne?
- 53:10Speaker 7: Yes, probably Collingwood.
- 53:12Speaker 7: It's got to be probably Geelong versus Collingwood grand final this year.
- 53:16Speaker 1: You know the interesting thing?
- 53:17Speaker 1: These two do make it since 2011.
- 53:20Speaker 1: These two met.
- 53:21Speaker 1: And I was in Melbourne and I'll add some other podcasts about that, a bit more detail of that.
- 53:26Speaker 1: But Geelong are my second team and there's a lot of things about through my 21st.
- 53:32Speaker 1: You won't.
- 53:33Speaker 7: There's a lot of detail about your 21st.
- 53:35Speaker 7: Were you there?
- 53:36Speaker 7: No, I wasn't, mate.
- 53:37Speaker 1: No but something about my 21st mate it's my brother brought a lot of inappropriate comments.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Danny came, we made a conversation who's?
- 53:45Speaker 1: You know who's?
- 53:46Speaker 1: This is 2009.
- 53:48Speaker 1: I said who do you think should win the apprenticeship?
- 53:50Speaker 1: Geelong, why Geelong?
- 53:51Speaker 1: I said, damn, stetson, I've never.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you love it that Mate.
- 53:55Speaker 7: Geelong did very well and Collingwood were coming back to like last year I mean not last year, 2010, when they lost against.
- 54:02Speaker 7: I can't remember who they played, but I know because I watched that grand final and it was a great game and when Geelong won that, oh Geelong.
- 54:09Speaker 7: What's his name?
- 54:10Speaker 7: Lyon or something I can't remember.
- 54:13Speaker 7: I can't remember Ross Lyon, that's correct.
- 54:16Speaker 7: Yeah, he was a great player that day.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that grandfather, that Conor Geelong, when Paul Chapman played for Essendon as well.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Yes, that's correct, he won the game.
- 54:26Speaker 1: And that's where close games are, I love.
- 54:29Speaker 1: I agree, I remember there was no celebrations at Victoria Park, it was all down at Geelong and that's why Geelong Associates is sensational.
- 54:38Speaker 1: It's not apprenticeship, it's about their culture, it's about, you know, terterai, the former captain from Port Adelaide.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Oh, yes, it's about culture and I'm so glad he came on board, come and spoke to us and I think that really helped us, our culture as well as a team.
- 54:55Speaker 7: Yeah, especially when we had that um hall of fame ball.
- 54:57Speaker 7: He came out and spoke to all of us and made us feel spirited and we made it to the grand final and and and andrew jarman on the hall of fame night.
- 55:06Speaker 1: That was really great, and someone that you know.
- 55:09Speaker 1: He spoke.
- 55:09Speaker 1: I asked him this stupid question.
- 55:11Speaker 1: He down joan, you're listening over your butt, someone.
- 55:15Speaker 1: He said the 97 grand final.
- 55:18Speaker 1: How did you feel, you know?
- 55:20Speaker 1: And his words were very loud.
- 55:22Speaker 1: He remembered that MCG was packed.
- 55:26Speaker 1: It was very hard, very hard here.
- 55:28Speaker 1: It'll concentrate and the day he celebrated he's won the best celebrations.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I love his mamba because that's the mumbo I've awarded early in the year.
- 55:38Speaker 7: And I'm very proud of you for that BJ.
- 55:39Speaker 7: You did very well to make him up.
- 55:41Speaker 7: You were honoured to wear that number this year and this year you did very well and I'm very proud of you for that BJ, for being my best mate.
- 55:49Speaker 7: You did very well this year for Kenilworth and next year we can do better and prove to the other clubs we can do it.
- 55:59Speaker 7: Yeah, we can beat kilburn.
- 56:00Speaker 1: I know they're going to start talking smack to us, but we can still beat out.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Beat absolutely, and I think we did that.
- 56:03Speaker 1: But another thing I like the number famous 24.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Now when I got that back to chris, we didn't chat a lot.
- 56:09Speaker 1: This now I wish I spoke to big bird about this.
- 56:11Speaker 1: But wearing the 24 number is not just a jersey, it's a memorized for the inclusive team.
- 56:18Speaker 1: That's correct.
- 56:19Speaker 7: Yeah, because Big Bird used to wear that number back in the day.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 56:22Speaker 1: Now, if someone else took that Mamba left not named, then someone that may.
- 56:27Speaker 1: I'm going to take that Mamba Because Lincoln wants free, because his jersey didn't fit.
- 56:32Speaker 1: He grabbed that Mamba free.
- 56:33Speaker 1: You use that Mamba proud.
- 56:35Speaker 1: He's done that Beautiful and I'm proud of myself.
- 56:37Speaker 1: This year I played number two for myself and I'm happy for that too and you know a lot of number is good, but play more minutes when the 24th was pretty impressive and I'm big bird want.
- 56:48Speaker 7: It's about time you wore that number because he will actually give it to me if it was hit when he retired well, I'm gonna miss bell big bird if he does retire, but Big Bird's a big passion to this club and he's always out there every week sometimes and yelling our spores.
- 57:03Speaker 7: Go on.
- 57:04Speaker 1: We can do this and we can do this this year and that's what he's and I think, even I suppose and we'll wrap it up from this point but with no Big Bird, we don't perform well.
- 57:14Speaker 1: Have you maybe noticed that little voice?
- 57:16Speaker 1: Yes, Big Bird, we don't perform well.
- 57:19Speaker 1: If you maybe noticed that little voice, yes, I have actually.
- 57:20Speaker 1: Yes, and I think this year we really missed that mascot and I think that this is actually a little bit of a spark that they're going to be like a little cheese coming through.
- 57:28Speaker 7: Yeah, I think we missed that story of Big Bird coming out every week saying come on Cookers, and every week, and it's made me feel like I'm playing Kenilworth.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Like a big stage and stuff, but that grand final he was doing that.
- 57:41Speaker 1: You know, like that Connor, with Chadda.
- 57:43Speaker 7: He did the.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Kenilworth.
- 57:44Speaker 1: I don't know if you heard him on.
- 57:46Speaker 7: I did hear him a bit, but I was playing mid-forward and then big back, and then I heard him like come on, Cougars and I was like, yeah, that's a big bet.
- 57:54Speaker 7: I knew it, ezra.
- 57:55Speaker 1: O'Keefe, that kind of thing.
- 57:57Speaker 1: He was that leader mascot, and I think no other club has that.
- 58:03Speaker 7: No, I don't think so, and I think.
- 58:05Speaker 1: Crowell O'Fella.
- 58:06Speaker 1: No, he's not playing footy anymore.
- 58:08Speaker 1: He's been here for 20 years.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Same with old Bettens through that.
- 58:13Speaker 1: He's still playing.
- 58:14Speaker 1: But I agree, but it's all playing.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Yes, but from day one, big bird will tell us who's left, who's alive, who's left, all that, oh yeah, kilburn has come and now come back again.
- 58:26Speaker 1: You know something like that.
