- 1:05Speaker 5: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian. I'm Fred.
- 1:08Speaker 7: And we are coming to you live. Hey.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Dude henry winkler all right hey how are you hi
- 1:28Speaker 4: nice to meet you congratulations oh.
- 1:30Speaker 8: Well thanks yeah that's true.
- 1:32Speaker 2: That's true nice to meet you nice yeah so i
- 1:34Speaker 2: just met the phones yeah hanging out with the phones
- 1:37Speaker 2: we're pretty awesome like.
- 1:49Speaker 7: So we're coming to you live via digital recording, as
- 1:51Speaker 7: per usual anymore. Lots of road trips lately. From the
- 1:54Speaker 7: Fright Night Film Fest slash Fandom Fest. I don't know,
- 1:57Speaker 7: how would you describe it?
- 1:59Speaker 2: It is sort of like a split personality is how
- 2:02Speaker 2: I'd describe it.
- 2:03Speaker 7: Kind of, yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 4: But yeah, a Fandom Fest, you've got all your stuff
- 2:09Speaker 4: mixed together here. You've got a whole thing of horror stars,
- 2:12Speaker 4: and then you've got a whole lot of pop culture stuff,
- 2:14Speaker 4: and there's a whole side.
- 2:15Speaker 7: Of gaming and all kinds of.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Crazy stuff going on over there so it's it's pretty
- 2:20Speaker 4: amazing how much stuff they've kind of packed in and
- 2:22Speaker 4: all the different like nerd types that get along i
- 2:24Speaker 4: just i just a minute ago had a extended conversation
- 2:28Speaker 4: about um die and um four-sided die and then we
- 2:32Speaker 4: were trying to decide if you cut an eight-sided die
- 2:34Speaker 4: in half if it would make two four-sided die or
- 2:36Speaker 4: a new five-sided die it's pretty exciting so what.
- 2:40Speaker 2: If you had a die that was a mobius strip
- 2:43Speaker 2: would that be like a one-sided die Is it like one-dimensional?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Because essentially it has one side that loops back into itself.
- 2:52Speaker 7: I think you just broke the universe, man.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 2:56Speaker 4: So yes, many, many nerd activities going on in this
- 2:59Speaker 4: festival here. Do you want to talk about some of
- 3:02Speaker 4: your favorite things so far, Fred? Do you want to
- 3:04Speaker 4: talk about the girl with the cat ears?
- 3:06Speaker 2: I love the cat ears. cat girl dancing I just
- 3:09Speaker 2: really enjoyed.
- 3:10Speaker 4: That a couple of tables down from us there is
- 3:12Speaker 4: a young woman who has cat ears on and has
- 3:16Speaker 4: taken it upon herself to dance pretty much the entire
- 3:19Speaker 4: time today.
- 3:20Speaker 2: She dances like she means it she does I appreciate
- 3:23Speaker 2: that she does seem committed to it and she's not
- 3:26Speaker 2: she's not really slacked off she's been at it most
- 3:28Speaker 2: of the day surprisingly yeah with the same level of
- 3:31Speaker 2: commitment Um, she doesn't care, you know, who's walking by,
- 3:35Speaker 2: you know, you can sort of like make eye contact
- 3:37Speaker 2: with her and just look straight into her face and
- 3:39Speaker 2: she'll look right back and just keep dancing. It's kind
- 3:43Speaker 2: of cool.
- 3:44Speaker 7: It is pretty damn interesting. Oh, any other interesting moments today?
- 3:50Speaker 2: Uh, well, you know, meeting the Fonz is.
- 3:52Speaker 7: That was pretty awesome.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But, uh, yeah, the... just the general walkthrough is the
- 3:59Speaker 2: thing to do just it's one thing after another it
- 4:03Speaker 2: just it unfolds it's like a jacob's ladder of of
- 4:08Speaker 2: horror fandom and and frightfulness uh there there was some
- 4:13Speaker 2: sort of i don't know what what film it was
- 4:16Speaker 2: from but some sort of creature came lurking around the
- 4:19Speaker 2: corner and everybody's sort of sitting around talking it's sort
- 4:23Speaker 2: of a law in the day there's a a staff
- 4:26Speaker 2: person sitting here and it sort of like crept up
- 4:29Speaker 2: behind her and i think that was that was one
- 4:31Speaker 2: of my favorite moments her her slow realization that there
- 4:36Speaker 2: was this giant fanged monstrous thing and then she looked
- 4:40Speaker 2: around and looked at it and she got up and
- 4:43Speaker 2: said can i get a picture with you and she
- 4:44Speaker 2: gave me her camera.
- 4:47Speaker 4: That's how you know you're at a convention yes this
- 4:49Speaker 4: stuff is all commonplace But yeah, it is interesting, just
- 4:53Speaker 4: the experience of wandering through and seeing all these different
- 4:57Speaker 4: pockets of geekdom.
- 4:59Speaker 7: It's pretty impressive, I have to say.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and I talked to a director who has a
- 5:03Speaker 2: series of shorts tomorrow morning. It sounded pretty interesting. This
- 5:08Speaker 2: guy from Michigan gave me his card. I can't seem
- 5:11Speaker 2: to find it now, but.
- 5:14Speaker 7: You get a lot of that.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to look him up online. He was
- 5:18Speaker 2: telling me about what he was doing. It's... sort of
- 5:21Speaker 2: non-narrative atmospheric horror shorts. He's apparently a fan of David Lynch,
- 5:27Speaker 2: which sounds like it could be cool.
- 5:30Speaker 7: Misty and I were pestering a vendor. She was awesome.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. And I think the more we stood there
- 5:37Speaker 4: and talked to her, at some point Misty wanted to leave,
- 5:39Speaker 4: and that made it a little more awesome to not leave.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I just kept standing.
- 5:44Speaker 8: There.
- 5:45Speaker 7: I just kept going. So anyway, yeah. So yeah, we
- 5:48Speaker 7: pestered a vendor woman for about 20 minutes. Luckily, she
- 5:51Speaker 7: was awesome.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and then I kept trying to get a picture
- 5:57Speaker 2: of this pensive little child star.
- 6:00Speaker 7: From The Walking Dead.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 7: The opening scene of The Walking Dead. You're geeks. You
- 6:04Speaker 7: know who it is. But, yeah, she was wandering around.
- 6:06Speaker 7: I just saw her again over there.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, well, when I saw her, she was just sitting
- 6:10Speaker 2: sort of like pensively at a table. It was a
- 6:13Speaker 2: great shot, but some sort of red satanic thing kept
- 6:17Speaker 2: leaning over and ruining the shot. So, you know, it's
- 6:21Speaker 2: kind of awkward. I didn't want to say, excuse me, demon,
- 6:25Speaker 2: but you're messing up my shot here. So I missed it.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I didn't quite get it.
- 6:29Speaker 7: Yeah, and their costume was not very good as well.
- 6:32Speaker 2: No, no. It was goofy. And one of the moments
- 6:36Speaker 2: I enjoy is people walking by and seeing the shirt
- 6:40Speaker 2: that I'm wearing.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll go into it in a minute, the story
- 6:44Speaker 4: behind it. But, yeah, they're commenting on our merchandise.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And they... they all say the same thing. They just
- 6:51Speaker 2: walk by and they stop for a minute and they
- 6:52Speaker 2: look and they go, that's awesome.
- 6:57Speaker 7: So I guess that's a good lead-in. We can go
- 6:59Speaker 7: into our theme for this episode, if you will.
- 7:04Speaker 4: We've decided, I thought, if nothing else, this would be
- 7:07Speaker 4: the perfect place to roll out this story. You told
- 7:10Speaker 4: me this story several years ago, and number one, I
- 7:12Speaker 4: thought you were making it up, which we'll get into
- 7:14Speaker 4: later because you thought it was made up as well. Yes.
- 7:17Speaker 7: And then we.
- 7:18Speaker 4: And as time went on, I realized it wasn't. I
- 7:20Speaker 4: was like, okay, well, we can't just randomly throw this out.
- 7:22Speaker 4: We need to have it at a specific event. And
- 7:25Speaker 4: even better, if we can tie in the other person involved.
- 7:28Speaker 4: So I was biding my time. I was waiting patiently
- 7:32Speaker 4: until the best place. So now the person who it
- 7:35Speaker 4: involves is here. And I also made t-shirts that say this. So, yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 7: As you well know, because you're listening to it now,
- 7:42Speaker 7: John Carpenter was my babysitter. So.
- 7:45Speaker 4: To lead into that story, I guess we'll have to
- 7:48Speaker 4: turn it over to Fred here. But how far back
- 7:51Speaker 4: are we going on this one?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Oh, pretty far back. It's like, I mean, I was little.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I was little, but my understanding, I mean, I'd heard
- 8:00Speaker 2: this my whole life. You know, John Carpenter was my babysitter,
- 8:04Speaker 2: and I'm.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Like, yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 2: But you know how... Moms say a lot of things.
- 8:09Speaker 7: Yes, they do.
- 8:09Speaker 2: You know, like, oh, we're related to Daniel Boone.
- 8:14Speaker 7: I was Pocahontas.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, descended from the Plantagenets. So, you know, this thing.
- 8:21Speaker 2: And I was, so I kind of forgot about it. But,
- 8:26Speaker 2: you know, I guess you reach a certain age. Eventually
- 8:29Speaker 2: I'm going to reach the age where I'm going to
- 8:31Speaker 2: retire from life. and just look up all the random
- 8:33Speaker 2: little factoids I know and see if any of them
- 8:36Speaker 2: are true. But I'm not there yet. Where I was
- 8:39Speaker 2: was I was at the point where some of the
- 8:42Speaker 2: stuff I'd heard all my life, I just wanted to, like,
- 8:45Speaker 2: pin it down. So I started investigating Mom. I didn't
- 8:50Speaker 2: hire anybody. I had limited funds.
- 8:53Speaker 7: She was asking for it, though. She was behaving pretty
- 8:55Speaker 7: shady at that point.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, she says a lot of things. So I started
- 9:01Speaker 2: looking it up, and I got on his website, and
- 9:06Speaker 2: sure enough, he grew up in Bowling Green, where I
- 9:10Speaker 2: grew up. His parents taught at Western, where my parents taught.
- 9:15Speaker 2: So far, Mom's story was checking out.
- 9:18Speaker 4: But she could conveniently just be working that in if
- 9:21Speaker 4: she knew that fact.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 7: Because mom's devious like that.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but then she came up with this little mimeographed
- 9:28Speaker 2: magazine that he had drawn when he was a kid.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And the cover is like a hand-drawn image of Vincent Price,
- 9:36Speaker 2: who I met at Western when he was on his
- 9:39Speaker 2: cookbook tour.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Nice.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yeah, because, you know, coincidentally, it didn't stem from anything...
- 9:47Speaker 2: having to do with John Carpenter but I was like
- 9:51Speaker 2: obsessed with horror movies when I was a kid I
- 9:53Speaker 2: was just absolutely obsessed with them and often they would
- 9:57Speaker 2: come on every afternoon after after school and during the summer.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And some days I would like go out. I don't
- 10:05Speaker 2: know why I would go outside and do stuff. And
- 10:08Speaker 2: I just remember that point in the day if I
- 10:11Speaker 2: suddenly realized it's past, I missed my horror movie. And
- 10:16Speaker 2: I just feel sick to my stomach because I can't believe...
- 10:20Speaker 2: a lot of people don't know this, but when I
- 10:21Speaker 2: grew up, when something was on, it was on. If
- 10:25Speaker 2: you're not there, there's no second chance.
- 10:28Speaker 7: What are these days of lore you speak of? I'm
- 10:30Speaker 7: pretty sure you had DVR, right? No, no. You at
- 10:33Speaker 7: least had a VCR, right?
- 10:35Speaker 2: No, no. I remember when I was very small, when
- 10:38Speaker 2: I was like the Nelson Muntz of our neighborhood, the
- 10:41Speaker 2: kid who was sort of a bully. I was pretty young.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I was like maybe seven or something like that. But
- 10:49Speaker 2: The bully kid was friends with my brother. And I
- 10:52Speaker 2: remember the night he suddenly realized that Cinderella was on TV.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And he had to run home. And he was like yelling,
- 10:59Speaker 2: Cinderella's on! And he goes running down the street. And
- 11:02Speaker 2: I remember thinking, man, if this is the bully in
- 11:05Speaker 2: my world, then things are pretty cushy, I guess. But
- 11:10Speaker 2: the thing was, there were so few things on for
- 11:13Speaker 2: kids that when anything was on, it wasn't, I don't know.
- 11:18Speaker 2: It was a big deal.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Yeah, we've discussed that before, Jay, and I have, because, again,
- 11:23Speaker 4: we grew up in the same area. We have all
- 11:24Speaker 4: those same stories of, remember when they used to play
- 11:26Speaker 4: Godzilla on Sundays?
- 11:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Remember when they played those kung fu movies? And it
- 11:29Speaker 4: was like, it was on the same time, it was
- 11:30Speaker 4: on the same channel. So we sort of shared that
- 11:32Speaker 4: same part of the childhood, even though we didn't know
- 11:34Speaker 4: each other at that point.
- 11:35Speaker 7: We lived in the same general area. So, yeah, you
- 11:37Speaker 7: kind of had that growing up before the DVR, DVD,
- 11:41Speaker 7: VHS days.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah. But the story is, at the foot of the hill...
- 11:47Speaker 2: western which is you know the hill toppers so at
- 11:50Speaker 2: the bottom of the hill my parents uh lived in
- 11:55Speaker 2: a little place over a burger place they had a
- 11:58Speaker 2: little apartment over a burger place and it used to
- 12:00Speaker 2: be used to have this great ginkgo tree in front
- 12:03Speaker 2: of it it's still there i drove by there a
- 12:06Speaker 2: few weeks ago and john carpenter's parents actually lived in
- 12:11Speaker 2: one of the log houses at the foot of the
- 12:13Speaker 2: hill which back then was faculty housing And there was
- 12:17Speaker 2: a little basketball area sort of off to the side.
- 12:20Speaker 2: And it's still there, too, but it's not faculty housing anymore.
- 12:25Speaker 2: And his parents would sometimes want to get together with
- 12:29Speaker 2: my parents, and my parents would be like, oh, we
- 12:31Speaker 2: don't have a sitter. John will watch the kids. It
- 12:36Speaker 2: was John will watch the boys, because my younger sister,
- 12:39Speaker 2: she wasn't involved in this, although she does say, she
- 12:42Speaker 2: likes to say John Carpenter was her babysitter, but technically
- 12:46Speaker 2: not true and one little group of people everybody comes
- 12:51Speaker 2: by they see the shirt they look at oh that's
- 12:53Speaker 2: awesome and a few of them I get to explain
- 12:56Speaker 2: well actually it's true he was my babysitter but one
- 13:00Speaker 2: group was walking off and I heard one of them
- 13:02Speaker 2: say yeah it's like that when the TV is your
- 13:05Speaker 2: babysitter when you're Yeah, well, I guess.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Kind of, but you're missing the specific point, but you're
- 13:12Speaker 4: going a little grander.
- 13:13Speaker 7: All right, I agree. Most kids were raised by TV
- 13:16Speaker 7: at this point.
- 13:16Speaker 2: That's true, and if, you know, like me, you grew
- 13:19Speaker 2: up watching horror movies, then, in a sense, John Carpenter
- 13:23Speaker 2: sort of was your babysitter.
- 13:24Speaker 7: And if you want to wear it like that, feel free.
- 13:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 13:27Speaker 7: Have yourself a shirt, wear it that way.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I've blessed each one of these shirts, personally. I
- 13:34Speaker 2: and the Pope. together in this fused.
- 13:38Speaker 7: Don't cross the streams. Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so that you can wear them in whatever, like,
- 13:44Speaker 2: larger sense you want.
- 13:48Speaker 7: It makes it real. It's not just a lie.
- 13:51Speaker 4: It's real, because it's been deemed by you who, in fact,
- 13:53Speaker 4: was babysat by John Carpenter.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Yes.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I was, and I don't know... people sometimes say well
- 14:02Speaker 2: how did that work for you i don't know i
- 14:04Speaker 2: was a messed up kid there are stories about me
- 14:07Speaker 2: that i slept in a coffin and stuff and actually
- 14:10Speaker 2: i did have this giant like coffin sized thing and
- 14:15Speaker 2: sure yeah that was the idea but uh i don't
- 14:18Speaker 2: think i ever managed to fall asleep in it it
- 14:20Speaker 2: was kind of like because it's it's kind of like
- 14:22Speaker 2: trying to fall asleep in a hammock when you're a
- 14:24Speaker 2: kid i could never do it because i was always
- 14:26Speaker 2: too excited to be in a hammock I didn't manage
- 14:30Speaker 2: to fall asleep in a hammock until I was 40.
- 14:33Speaker 7: And then all the thrill is just gone.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Yeah, because, you know, to fall asleep in a hammock
- 14:37Speaker 2: as a kid, I had to go over to some
- 14:39Speaker 2: neighbor's hammock. And the fear of getting caught sleeping in
- 14:43Speaker 2: somebody's hammock, that kept you alert. And then, you know,
- 14:49Speaker 2: by the time I'm older and I just have a hammock,
- 14:52Speaker 2: then it's one of those things that, like, it's like,
- 14:54Speaker 2: It would be cool to have a balcony, but then
- 14:56Speaker 2: you have one and you never go out on it.
- 14:59Speaker 2: But eventually, somehow, I came to the point where it
- 15:04Speaker 2: was possible to fall asleep in a hammock. And the
- 15:07Speaker 2: point is, I never really slept in a coffin. I
- 15:09Speaker 2: kept all my comic book collection in it.
- 15:12Speaker 7: That's a pretty awesome place to keep your comics.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. And it wasn't like an actual coffin, because
- 15:17Speaker 2: those things are expensive.
- 15:19Speaker 7: They are quite pricey. I've checked in.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It was like a cowboy coffin, maybe.
- 15:24Speaker 7: Yeah, those are kind of cheap. They had the ghetto coffee.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so I did have that, and I was obsessed,
- 15:31Speaker 2: every time we'd go to a different town, I'd want
- 15:33Speaker 2: to go to the novelty stores, because that's where they
- 15:35Speaker 2: would have all the horror stuff, you know, and I'd
- 15:38Speaker 2: just get the phone book in the motel room, novelty stores,
- 15:44Speaker 2: you know, because you can never get good masks or
- 15:47Speaker 2: good anything in the little town where I grew up,
- 15:50Speaker 2: but You'd go to a larger city and they'd have
- 15:52Speaker 2: a store. They'd get the full face mask, like the
- 15:56Speaker 2: werewolf especially. I was into werewolves quite a bit for
- 16:00Speaker 2: a while. For a while it was the vampires, then
- 16:03Speaker 2: the werewolves, then, you know, just horror in general.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Did you get into the modeling? Like the little vinyl
- 16:12Speaker 4: model kits? Or back then they were just plastic?
- 16:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they did like the glow-in-the-dark ones. Yeah, they
- 16:17Speaker 2: did one. It really looked a lot like the Lon Chaney. Yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 2: and there was a magazine back then called Famous Monsters.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 16:27Speaker 2: It was my initials. I thought that was pretty cool.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Famous Monsters. And it was just in the culture generally.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I mean, you could get, like, Boy's Life and stuff,
- 16:37Speaker 2: and they would have, like, how to put this horrendous
- 16:40Speaker 2: gash on your face. And it's like, where do I
- 16:42Speaker 2: get these materials to build... This wound that I want
- 16:47Speaker 2: to have on my face.
- 16:50Speaker 7: I always liked the six-foot Frankenstein. I'm pretty sure he
- 16:52Speaker 7: was inflatable.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah. And on Halloween, I was so into
- 16:57Speaker 2: horror that it just spilled over. I couldn't contain it,
- 17:03Speaker 2: so I would go out with overcoat over this costume,
- 17:08Speaker 2: over this costume, and four or five masks in a
- 17:11Speaker 2: separate bag. If I got to a house that they
- 17:14Speaker 2: had something I really liked, I'd just keep going back.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I'd just go around the corner, change, go back again.
- 17:21Speaker 2: That's the whole point. What's the point of being in
- 17:25Speaker 2: costume if you don't do something like that? So yeah,
- 17:30Speaker 2: that was my warped childhood in a small town where
- 17:36Speaker 2: John Carpenter was my babysitter. And it's I think it's cool, too, because,
- 17:40Speaker 2: you know, the babysitter theme... Which kind of, I mean,
- 17:45Speaker 2: not specifically, but certainly found probably its most copied example
- 17:51Speaker 2: in his first movie.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Well, his first, you know, of that series, one of
- 17:55Speaker 4: his most influential movies. So I thought, yeah, it was
- 17:58Speaker 4: kind of funny that he centers Halloween around... babysitters i
- 18:01Speaker 4: mean it's not just.
- 18:02Speaker 2: A slasher babysitter yeah.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Babysitters and he himself not only was a babysitter but
- 18:07Speaker 4: specifically your baby yes.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I know and if jamie lee curtis may have been
- 18:14Speaker 2: around i don't know I don't know. Who knows? Nobody
- 18:17Speaker 2: could know that.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Babysitters do usually sneak in their significant other and be
- 18:21Speaker 4: making out. So at any point, do you remember busting
- 18:23Speaker 4: him with Jamie Lee Curtis?
- 18:25Speaker 2: I think.
- 18:26Speaker 7: Or hopefully P.J.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Solden.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It may be one of those memories that can come
- 18:30Speaker 2: back under hypnosis. We'll have to see. I'll have to
- 18:35Speaker 2: be hypnotized. Back then you could order, I remember, these
- 18:39Speaker 2: little spinning coins. So we could do that. If we
- 18:42Speaker 2: could find, like, a comic book from the late 70s,
- 18:47Speaker 2: we could probably still order this.
- 18:49Speaker 7: I believe I still have a few of my Boxo
- 18:51Speaker 7: comics at home. I can see if I can dig
- 18:53Speaker 7: that out if you want.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah. So that's essentially the story of John Carpenter. And
- 19:00Speaker 2: he's around here. I kept hoping I might get hold
- 19:04Speaker 2: of him.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw him walk past, but
- 19:06Speaker 4: it was before we had all this set up, so
- 19:08Speaker 4: he didn't see it.
- 19:09Speaker 2: He had a security guy.
- 19:10Speaker 7: I'm sure he did, here. He'll be mauled by geeks here. Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 4: So at what point did he, do you remember him
- 19:17Speaker 4: disappearing from the situation? And you were like, where'd that
- 19:19Speaker 4: one guy go, Mom?
- 19:20Speaker 2: Not really. No, I don't have that kind of memory.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I've got like three or four standard memories from my childhood,
- 19:28Speaker 2: and I don't even know if they're true anymore. That's
- 19:30Speaker 2: why I had to research this. Because I didn't really remember,
- 19:34Speaker 2: but the magazine, you know, that puts him there at
- 19:39Speaker 2: the scene of the crime.
- 19:40Speaker 7: Yeah, I was looking through it.
- 19:42Speaker 4: We have a version here that we were going to
- 19:44Speaker 4: show some people if they.
- 19:45Speaker 7: Were, like, nice enough to donate to us.
- 19:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 7: But, um, yeah, it's really cool.
- 19:49Speaker 2: It is, it's very.
- 19:50Speaker 4: It's like he'd already been doing a horror zine, and
- 19:53Speaker 4: then this is like the offshoot fantasy zine.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 4: And he's kind of like a mogul, because if you
- 19:59Speaker 4: look in the back, he's got all these other ones,
- 20:02Speaker 4: most of which I don't think are even his, that
- 20:04Speaker 4: he was like mimeographing off.
- 20:05Speaker 7: And then selling to people.
- 20:07Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 7: So, yeah, he was like a little publishing mogul at
- 20:10Speaker 7: that point. That's pretty awesome.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:12Speaker 7: Like, what did we decide? Maybe 17 or so?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I figured it out somehow... Based on movies that he
- 20:20Speaker 2: was talking about and a movie that he said was
- 20:23Speaker 2: going to... I think it was She.
- 20:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I think She was like the upcoming movie, which
- 20:27Speaker 4: puts you in the time frame of how long ago
- 20:29Speaker 4: this was.
- 20:31Speaker 2: So he had to be about 17 then. And I
- 20:33Speaker 2: remember those mimeograph copiers because my dad actually bought me one.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I nagged him into buying me one. And you could
- 20:41Speaker 2: get different colors of like.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Ditto paper what was that stuff you used to roll
- 20:49Speaker 2: into a typewriter and you can make a few copies.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Oh i don't yeah like a carbon version of it
- 20:54Speaker 4: yeah yeah and then there was like this kerosene like
- 20:57Speaker 4: fluid you would put in the.
- 20:59Speaker 7: Mimeo this sounds dangerous why was he giving this to.
- 21:01Speaker 4: A child i don't know because you know you did
- 21:03Speaker 4: have a messed up child yeah.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Well if you nag them enough they just give up
- 21:08Speaker 2: they just want you to shut up yeah And so
- 21:12Speaker 2: usually the copies were blue, and they had that smell,
- 21:15Speaker 2: and they'd run sometimes. But you could get different colors,
- 21:19Speaker 2: so you could do, like, comic book combinations. It was complicated, though. And,
- 21:25Speaker 2: you know, one bad, like, spill of the fluid could create, like,
- 21:30Speaker 2: this chain disaster throughout your whole.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Well, I do like to think that you probably are
- 21:38Speaker 4: the inspiration for Halloween.
- 21:40Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Because he was probably sitting there babysitting going, God, this
- 21:44Speaker 4: job sucks.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I know. I need a better job.
- 21:47Speaker 7: If I have to deal with this little brat one
- 21:48Speaker 7: more time, I swear to God.
- 21:51Speaker 2: What could I do to get out of it?
- 21:53Speaker 7: I know.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I'll build an empire of horror fan magazines.
- 21:59Speaker 7: Yeah, that's what it was at that point. Little did
- 22:01Speaker 7: he know what was in store for him.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:04Speaker 7: Or that we would track him down one day and
- 22:06Speaker 7: be like, remember that one time you babysat?
- 22:09Speaker 2: Oh, somebody's wearing a Halloween shirt.
- 22:11Speaker 7: He'll still probably be like, oh, that's cool, and walk off.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 7: So, yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 2: No, they don't say that. They say, that's awesome. It's
- 22:21Speaker 2: like it's scripted. It's almost the timing is the same. Like,
- 22:25Speaker 2: you can overlap them and.
- 22:27Speaker 7: I did hide up there earlier and hand out a
- 22:29Speaker 7: bunch of scripts to people. As you get to that guy,
- 22:31Speaker 7: here's your line.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Oh, well, assuming that, you know, this continues on and
- 22:39Speaker 4: people are just sort of entertained by the shirts and,
- 22:42Speaker 4: you know, that's where it stops.
- 22:43Speaker 7: We might have some, so if anybody else thinks.
- 22:46Speaker 4: That it's awesome to have a shirt that says John
- 22:47Speaker 4: Carpenter was my babysitter, you know, you'll have to check
- 22:50Speaker 4: the website or email us or Facebook us or whatever,
- 22:53Speaker 4: and we can tell you if, in fact, there are
- 22:55Speaker 4: some still available, because That was half the reason I
- 22:58Speaker 4: wanted to put it together is because I wanted one
- 23:00Speaker 4: that says John Carpenter was my babysitter.
- 23:02Speaker 7: So, yeah, if nothing else, that was my main reason.
- 23:06Speaker 2: You know, and the thing is, it doesn't have to
- 23:08Speaker 2: be true. Because as we have seen, even if it
- 23:12Speaker 2: is true, nobody cares. They just go, oh, that's awesome,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and walk off. So it doesn't matter.
- 23:19Speaker 7: And you can make it up. Just convince everybody.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Now you know the story.
- 23:25Speaker 7: Word for word, just tell them.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Borrow my mom.
- 23:29Speaker 5: Rent a mom.
- 23:30Speaker 7: She might forget that it's not you.
- 23:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 7: She'll go along with it. Oh, yeah, I remember that. Sure.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Because I know my little sister says it, and it's
- 23:39Speaker 2: not true.
- 23:40Speaker 7: Obviously, they'll let anybody get away with that story.
- 23:43Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Oh, well, I think you are heading out for this installment.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Is there anything you want to pass along for the
- 23:49Speaker 4: listeners this week? Uh, no.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Um....
- 23:53Speaker 7: See, Thomas, Hal's getting ready to walk by.
- 23:55Speaker 2: It's exciting.
- 23:56Speaker 9: What?
- 23:56Speaker 5: What?
- 23:57Speaker 7: Oh, yeah. There he goes. Star of soul, man.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Man, he looks determined. Oh, you know, I could tell something. Uh,
- 24:05Speaker 2: I was just thinking about Lon Chaney and remembering the
- 24:08Speaker 2: glow-in-the-dark wolfman thing I put together back when they did models.
- 24:12Speaker 2: And you would get, like, the glow-in-the-dark pieces, and they
- 24:15Speaker 2: all came in these sprued sheets, so you had to, like,
- 24:18Speaker 2: work them out, and then Put them together. But I
- 24:22Speaker 2: did have a babysitter. Maybe I shouldn't tell this story.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I don't know. I can't decide.
- 24:27Speaker 7: Change the name to protect the innocent. Except for Jack Carpenter.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I had this babysitter who wasn't really my babysitter when
- 24:35Speaker 2: I was older. Because my brother and I were older.
- 24:37Speaker 2: We were kind of sketchy characters.
- 24:40Speaker 7: Still to this day.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Yeah. We had the little sister. And so it wasn't
- 24:45Speaker 2: our babysitter. But it was because... My parents would never
- 24:49Speaker 2: trust us to look after my little sister. So the
- 24:53Speaker 2: babysitter who, when we were younger, she was our babysitter,
- 24:55Speaker 2: but now she came to watch my sister.
- 24:58Speaker 4: That babysitter was Linda Blair. Okay, we're making that part up,
- 25:02Speaker 4: but she's here too.
- 25:04Speaker 2: She was sort of a beautiful hippie girl and only
- 25:08Speaker 2: got more and more beautiful as time went on.
- 25:12Speaker 7: This is going to get sketchy, isn't it?
- 25:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and one day I came out of my room, which...
- 25:17Speaker 2: and I think a little cloud billowed out every time
- 25:20Speaker 2: we opened the door back in those days. So a
- 25:23Speaker 2: little cloud billowed out. The hippie babysitter, she's like, what
- 25:28Speaker 2: does she care? So she's sitting out there, and my
- 25:31Speaker 2: sister's on the couch, and she's sitting there sort of
- 25:35Speaker 2: scooted forward in her chair, and she looks up and
- 25:38Speaker 2: sort of grins, this little wicked grin I can't convey,
- 25:45Speaker 2: but it was crazy, and I'm like, Huh? She's like,
- 25:50Speaker 2: do you want to see my scar?
- 25:52Speaker 7: This is awesome already.
- 25:55Speaker 2: And I'm like, yeah.
- 25:59Speaker 7: Is there any other answer for that?
- 26:00Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 26:01Speaker 7: Hey, there's John Carpenter right now. Flag him down. Throw
- 26:05Speaker 7: things at him.
- 26:07Speaker 2: So I walk down the hallway, and this is a
- 26:09Speaker 2: hallway that's carpeted with that carpet in Toy Story. the
- 26:14Speaker 2: green slightly sculpted carpet and it's still there to this
- 26:18Speaker 2: day so i come walking down the hallway and i
- 26:21Speaker 2: look in she's like you want to see my scar
- 26:24Speaker 2: and she's got her pants kind of unzipped and pulled
- 26:28Speaker 2: open and uh i don't remember a scar i.
- 26:33Speaker 7: Remember she i don't think that's what they call.
- 26:35Speaker 2: It yeah she was wearing this pale blue underwear and
- 26:39Speaker 2: there was she just had her Pants open. And she
- 26:42Speaker 2: looked up again with that crazy grin. To this day,
- 26:46Speaker 2: I'm just a sucker for crazy smiles. And I just,
- 26:51Speaker 2: I don't know how old I was. I had to
- 26:54Speaker 2: be like maybe 9 or 10.
- 26:56Speaker 7: Oh, this gets better.
- 26:59Speaker 11: 12.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Maybe I was 12. That's the oldest I could have been.
- 27:02Speaker 2: And I remember going back to my room. And I
- 27:06Speaker 2: locked the door. There was a little button lock there.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And I sat down at my little gray desk that
- 27:12Speaker 2: had a mirror in front of it. And I hit puberty.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Just like hitting a wall in a moving car. It
- 27:22Speaker 2: was like the Lon Chaney time-lapse transformation. I watched in
- 27:29Speaker 2: the mirror. Hair started sprouting out of my face. And
- 27:33Speaker 2: my voice lowered. And I was like sweating. I was
- 27:37Speaker 2: in a cold sweat. And then there was a knock
- 27:39Speaker 2: on the door. And I'm like, ah! And the hippie
- 27:44Speaker 2: babysitter is at the door. She's like, Fred? I'm like,
- 27:50Speaker 2: whatever you hear, don't come in here. No, I didn't
- 27:54Speaker 2: say that. I should have. But I sort of opened
- 27:56Speaker 2: the door and looked out. And she's like, are you okay?
- 28:00Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah.
- 28:02Speaker 7: Yeah. As your voice cracked.
- 28:05Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 28:05Speaker 5: And she.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Actually, I think it was like, yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 28:11Speaker 2: And she said, do you want an aspirin? I think
- 28:17Speaker 2: she had to know something was happening.
- 28:20Speaker 7: She broke you.
- 28:21Speaker 12: I'm like, ow.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I didn't plan to tell this story. I really should
- 28:29Speaker 2: not tell this story.
- 28:30Speaker 7: I kind of love it, so go ahead.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's mainly it. I'm like, no, I'm okay.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I'm I just want to be alone for a while.
- 28:39Speaker 2: So I locked the door again, and that's all I remember.
- 28:42Speaker 2: But my life changed. Everything was different.
- 28:47Speaker 4: That is impressive that you have that moment. Everything from
- 28:51Speaker 4: that point on.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Up until then, I was a good student. After that,
- 28:59Speaker 2: I couldn't study in school.
- 29:01Speaker 7: I could not.
- 29:02Speaker 2: My grades, like in seventh grade, I started out way
- 29:06Speaker 2: up here, started diving down, and then flatlined. And I
- 29:10Speaker 2: dropped out of high school on my 16th birthday. And,
- 29:14Speaker 2: you know, and then because I had, you know, awesome
- 29:17Speaker 2: parents who all they ever wanted was for me to
- 29:20Speaker 2: get educated. That's all they cared about. And then I
- 29:23Speaker 2: could die. They helped me, you know, I started at Western,
- 29:29Speaker 2: unofficially auditing a few classes. I got provisional training. admittance
- 29:34Speaker 2: to a few classes I did well built on that
- 29:37Speaker 2: and then I was in and things were were good
- 29:39Speaker 2: but uh but yeah it was it was the babysitter
- 29:44Speaker 2: i i never thought about it but it was the
- 29:46Speaker 2: babysitter did that just totally messed me up it wasn't
- 29:50Speaker 2: john carpenter it was this this russian girl this russian
- 29:54Speaker 2: hippie girl who who showed me her scar.
- 29:58Speaker 7: And that's what we're calling it.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I don't remember seeing a scar. Oh, I
- 30:04Speaker 2: left out a detail. When she looked up and grinned,
- 30:06Speaker 2: she goes, it's gross, isn't it?
- 30:10Speaker 8: She did.
- 30:11Speaker 4: She said it.
- 30:11Speaker 7: You won't think that later.
- 30:13Speaker 2: And I'm like, yeah, yeah. I need to be alone.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Oh, maybe we all need to be alone for a
- 30:24Speaker 4: minute now.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I didn't even think of that until right now.
- 30:30Speaker 4: So now we've pinpointed your life-altering babysitter story, and it
- 30:35Speaker 4: wasn't John Carpenter.
- 30:36Speaker 7: No, no. Interesting.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:39Speaker 7: And yet still fascinating that both of them, you have
- 30:42Speaker 7: some fascinating babysitter stories.
- 30:44Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 30:45Speaker 7: I don't have any of those. My life is lame.
- 30:48Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 30:48Speaker 2: It's, yeah, messed up by a babysitter. I didn't realize.
- 30:54Speaker 2: It's like, this is like one of those breakthrough moments.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Like if you were like a psychologist, I'd have to
- 31:01Speaker 2: pay you or something.
- 31:02Speaker 7: Oh, you'll still be getting my bill.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Wait, a psychiatrist, psychologist?
- 31:06Speaker 7: A low-rented psychologist.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:07Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 31:08Speaker 7: Yeah, can you prescribe drugs?
- 31:10Speaker 2: I guess that's... I don't know.
- 31:12Speaker 7: Maybe not. Maybe you just give them a.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Pat on the back.
- 31:15Speaker 7: You'll be fine.
- 31:16Speaker 2: You can prescribe drugs, but they have to be placebos.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I can do that.
- 31:21Speaker 7: Here's some M & M' s. Have fun.
- 31:26Speaker 4: Oh, well, should we leave people with that babysitter moment?
- 31:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I want to leave. Actually, I want
- 31:32Speaker 2: the whole thing chiseled on my tombstone.
- 31:36Speaker 7: That's what I want to leave the world with. You
- 31:38Speaker 7: better get a big tombstone.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:39Speaker 2: It's going to be a monument.
- 31:41Speaker 7: Well, we figured eventually you would have a monument anyway, really.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Those hippie girls, like, they don't make those anymore. Everything's
- 31:50Speaker 2: different now. There are no girls like that. I certainly
- 31:54Speaker 2: haven't run into them. They roamed the earth. They once roamed.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Every now and then you'll see girls who sort of, like,
- 32:01Speaker 2: are reminiscent. It's like somebody, like, rebuilt that in their
- 32:05Speaker 2: garage from spare parts but yeah oh wow not the
- 32:12Speaker 2: real thing yeah that's that's how i want to wind
- 32:15Speaker 2: up all right well we will take a break and
- 32:17Speaker 2: uh see what we come back with.
- 32:19Speaker 4: With the rest of this episode but i don't know
- 32:21Speaker 4: can we top the babies all.
- 32:24Speaker 13: Right we will be back tonight was just great she
- 32:27Speaker 13: taught us the sign for peace Now she's made of
- 32:33Speaker 13: some popcorn, we've turned out the lights and we're watching movies.
- 32:39Speaker 13: I don't understand and she tries to explain how a
- 32:43Speaker 13: spaceship is riding through somebody's brain and there's blood and
- 32:49Speaker 13: guts in. She's the best one that we've ever had.
- 32:57Speaker 13: She sits on her hair and she's tall as my bed.
- 33:01Speaker 2: And she tie-dyed my shirt and she pierced her own ear.
- 33:04Speaker 14: And it's me, me, who?
- 33:07Speaker 13: Yeah, the babysitter's here.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Hello there, here's a demonstration of my new invention, the
- 33:21Speaker 6: goodies machine. Special for patrons of this drive-in, the machine
- 33:26Speaker 6: turns out delicious hot dogs one after the other. And
- 33:30Speaker 6: three scrunching sodas also. Gives popcorn of the most tasty
- 33:35Speaker 6: kind plain and buttered. Candy, too. Crunchy and dandy. Steaming
- 33:40Speaker 6: hot coffee.
- 33:41Speaker 5: And ice cream, too.
- 33:42Speaker 6: These goodies are at a snack bar just waiting for you.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Jill Johnson is babysitting the children of a young doctor
- 34:03Speaker 3: and his wife. They've told her where they'll be, when
- 34:07Speaker 3: they'll be home. Everything she has to know. Except what
- 34:12Speaker 3: to do. When a stranger calls.
- 34:17Speaker 5: Hello?
- 34:18Speaker 2: Why haven't you checked the children?
- 34:21Speaker 14: Who is this?
- 34:22Speaker 4: What do you want?
- 34:24Speaker 15: Your blood.
- 34:26Speaker 3: When a stranger calls.
- 34:30Speaker 14: Leave me alone!
- 34:31Speaker 5: Jill, this is Sergeant Sacker. We've traced the call. It's
- 34:34Speaker 5: coming from inside the house. Just get out of that house.
- 34:38Speaker 3: When a stranger calls, every babysitter's nightmare becomes real. From
- 34:45Speaker 3: Columbia Pictures. Rated R. Under 17. Not admitted without parent.
- 34:50Speaker 16: I'm a bad babysitter. Got my boyfriend in the shower.
- 34:53Speaker 16: I'm making six bucks an hour. I'm a bad babysitter.
- 34:57Speaker 16: Got my boyfriend in the shower. I'm making six bucks
- 35:01Speaker 16: an hour. But whatever, they got junk food, kung fu,
- 35:04Speaker 16: egg food, dig dug, a dog too, and a hot juke.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Mr.
- 35:07Speaker 9: Wine Trap.
- 35:08Speaker 16: I mean, he's old, but not that bad. If I'm bad,
- 35:10Speaker 16: I'll turn around in the corner.
- 35:12Speaker 2: For time out. Hi, Josh.
- 35:13Speaker 14: What you want to do?
- 35:14Speaker 2: You want to watch cartoons?
- 35:15Speaker 14: HBO got platoon.
- 35:16Speaker 9: Hey.
- 35:17Speaker 7: Okay, so what are your thoughts.
- 35:19Speaker 14: So far, Misty?
- 35:20Speaker 2: A lot of people.
- 35:20Speaker 16: That's usually how.
- 35:21Speaker 17: These conventions work.
- 35:22Speaker 5: It's hot.
- 35:22Speaker 7: A lot of people.
- 35:24Speaker 8: Putting off body heat.
- 35:25Speaker 17: That's, again, how these conventions work.
- 35:27Speaker 15: And stinkiness.
- 35:46Speaker 7: Again, I say.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Yeah, when you have this many people cramped into one spot,
- 35:51Speaker 4: you know, you can't expect everybody to have good hygiene.
- 35:54Speaker 5: Right.
- 35:55Speaker 8: It would be nice, though.
- 35:57Speaker 7: Well, we can roll into our geek activities for the last.
- 36:00Speaker 14: I think I had Rodan painted on his face.
- 36:02Speaker 7: Like, the monster? Yes. Yeah, he did. I thought it
- 36:06Speaker 7: was an axe at first, but I think it was Rodan.
- 36:08Speaker 7: Rodan's pretty awesome.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Points to him, because, yeah, I would assume, you know,
- 36:11Speaker 4: everybody here that gets face painting just kind of gets, like,
- 36:13Speaker 4: blood and stuff like that, but If you're going to
- 36:16Speaker 4: bother to get Rodan on your face, points to that guy.
- 36:18Speaker 7: It's pretty awesome.
- 36:18Speaker 8: It's like the nerds line dissipated really quick.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:22Speaker 7: The nerds aren't getting a lot of love.
- 36:24Speaker 14: They're nerds.
- 36:25Speaker 7: That is kind of the point of the movie. They
- 36:27Speaker 7: seem efficient, don't they? They're like, get him in, get
- 36:30Speaker 7: him out. They're nerds. That's a good thing. They know
- 36:33Speaker 7: what they're doing. So, yeah. I guess we can do
- 36:37Speaker 7: our version of geek activities. This time, I... Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:42Speaker 4: I got midway into this, and I realized that I'm
- 36:44Speaker 4: going to have to start writing stuff down.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 36:48Speaker 7: So... Brain brought notes.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Well, I mean, there was too much. I couldn't... There
- 36:52Speaker 4: was too much to deal with. So, and I think
- 36:56Speaker 4: you already know this. I mentioned it online to you personally,
- 36:59Speaker 4: but I haven't talked about it on the show.
- 37:01Speaker 7: This was a couple weeks back.
- 37:02Speaker 4: I took it upon myself, glutton for punishment that I am,
- 37:06Speaker 4: I decided to watch not one, but.
- 37:08Speaker 7: A double feature of Twilight movies.
- 37:10Speaker 14: Ooh, which ones?
- 37:11Speaker 7: I saw the second and third.
- 37:13Speaker 14: Oh, the baseballs in the first one.
- 37:15Speaker 4: See, that's what Greg said. Online, he was immediately like,
- 37:18Speaker 4: did you see Vampire Baseball? And I'm like, dude, that
- 37:19Speaker 4: was in the other one. I saw that one like
- 37:22Speaker 4: months before that. So once again, I'm way behind on
- 37:25Speaker 4: the series because I'm not going to make it.
- 37:27Speaker 7: I'm not going to go out of my way or
- 37:29Speaker 7: pay anything.
- 37:30Speaker 4: If it comes on TV and I'm there, I'm like, okay,
- 37:34Speaker 4: now I'm going to have to watch it.
- 37:35Speaker 7: Because I feel like I need to. I can't make
- 37:38Speaker 7: fun of them if I haven't seen it, because that
- 37:39Speaker 7: just makes me a fucking douche.
- 37:41Speaker 4: I have to at least watch it and experience it,
- 37:43Speaker 4: and these are just my thoughts. So then I'm not
- 37:45Speaker 4: just a poser pretending to hate vampires that sparkle. So, yeah,
- 37:51Speaker 4: I started watching one and then the other, and then
- 37:54Speaker 4: very quickly I was just like, okay, I have questions.
- 37:57Speaker 4: I have questions that I need to pose to you guys,
- 37:59Speaker 4: and you're not going to have the answers, because I
- 38:00Speaker 4: actually heard you talk about some of them a couple
- 38:02Speaker 4: of weeks ago. So, number one, okay, not everybody in
- 38:08Speaker 4: the world knows these people are vampires, right?
- 38:10Speaker 9: Right.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Does nobody notice their eyes kind of sparkle and glow?
- 38:15Speaker 4: I mean, they've got those weird colored eyes.
- 38:17Speaker 2: What the fuck?
- 38:18Speaker 7: Does nobody comment?
- 38:18Speaker 8: Contact lenses.
- 38:19Speaker 7: But they're those kids at school. They always go around
- 38:23Speaker 7: with freaking contact lenses. Oh, yeah. Goth wannabe kids. They're
- 38:26Speaker 7: from the Northwest.
- 38:27Speaker 2: They're allowed to look weird.
- 38:29Speaker 7: I mean, I'll let the pastiness slide. They're from the Northwest. But,
- 38:32Speaker 7: I mean, come on. Your eyes don't look like that normally.
- 38:36Speaker 7: And the fact that all of them do.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Like, wouldn't somebody be like, I've got a question? You know,
- 38:41Speaker 4: somebody should be posing that earlier on.
- 38:45Speaker 14: I had a problem with the fact that none of
- 38:46Speaker 14: them had fangs.
- 38:49Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 38:49Speaker 8: Yeah, they don't, do they?
- 38:50Speaker 7: That's an issue.
- 38:51Speaker 14: Are there any fangs at any point in any of
- 38:53Speaker 14: these movies? Do you see any vampire fangs?
- 38:56Speaker 7: I mean, I know most of these points have been
- 38:58Speaker 7: brought up before.
- 38:59Speaker 14: Or lack of points.
- 39:01Speaker 7: That too.
- 39:02Speaker 4: This was the first time I'd watched these two, so
- 39:04Speaker 4: I legitimately have these questions, want to address them.
- 39:06Speaker 7: So here's mine.
- 39:08Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 39:08Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 39:09Speaker 8: I was going to say, they changed the whole mythos
- 39:10Speaker 8: of the whole thing.
- 39:11Speaker 4: They did, and that's the thing. I've sort of thrown
- 39:13Speaker 4: off some of them and just like, okay, I've accepted
- 39:15Speaker 4: the fact that you're, okay, they're going to sparkle. Whatever,
- 39:17Speaker 4: let's get past that. But then, like, some of the
- 39:19Speaker 4: other stuff just, like, as a movie doesn't make sense.
- 39:23Speaker 4: One of my main ones is, and, okay, I'll answer
- 39:26Speaker 4: it before I even pose the question, because it brings
- 39:29Speaker 4: in teenage girls.
- 39:30Speaker 7: Buying tickets. Now, my question is, why is it that...
- 39:33Speaker 7: What is Wolf Boy's name?
- 39:34Speaker 14: Taylor Lautner?
- 39:35Speaker 7: Yeah, but what's his, like... Jacob? Why does Jacob never
- 39:39Speaker 7: have a shirt on?
- 39:39Speaker 14: Because he's fucking hot.
- 39:41Speaker 7: Is that.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Legitimately, I think it is because he's hot and he
- 39:47Speaker 4: brings in the ticket sales. But are they using the
- 39:48Speaker 4: story as that they generate heat bullshit?
- 39:51Speaker 7: Is that their reason?
- 39:52Speaker 2: I assume.
- 39:53Speaker 1: I think they're always hot and I think they're afraid
- 39:58Speaker 1: if they get mad they'll rip their shirt. They don't
- 40:00Speaker 1: want the Hulk effect.
- 40:01Speaker 7: They're always wearing pants.
- 40:03Speaker 9: I know.
- 40:03Speaker 7: If you were really hot.
- 40:04Speaker 8: You generally don't really rip your pants off.
- 40:06Speaker 7: But they do. That's another issue I have.
- 40:08Speaker 8: I don't know. If I was going to get in
- 40:09Speaker 8: a fight and I got pissed off at somebody, the
- 40:11Speaker 8: last thing.
- 40:11Speaker 7: I'd do would be rip my pants off. That would
- 40:14Speaker 7: probably end the fight, though. That would be like, you
- 40:17Speaker 7: know what? I don't want to fight.
- 40:18Speaker 17: That's it.
- 40:18Speaker 5: We're done.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Now, I can't 100% confirm this, but I did ask
- 40:22Speaker 1: a lot of these questions to my wife, who's read
- 40:24Speaker 1: most of the books. She reads a lot of books.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Don't crucify her for the fact that she... Yeah, don't
- 40:30Speaker 1: judge that. But she said that they actually... Because I
- 40:33Speaker 1: was like, well, if they turn into wolves and rip
- 40:36Speaker 1: their pants and they don't... You know, they'll turn back.
- 40:39Speaker 2: What do they do then?
- 40:40Speaker 7: She said, well, they actually have like a pouch that
- 40:43Speaker 7: they take the pants... Or the pants come off and
- 40:44Speaker 7: they carry their... As a wolf carrier pants?
- 40:48Speaker 8: Yeah, it's like a fanny pack.
- 40:49Speaker 7: Do these wolves have fanny packs? What the hell is this?
- 40:54Speaker 4: And do they like strap it on while they're a wolf?
- 40:56Speaker 4: And you see wolves running with fanny packs on?
- 40:58Speaker 1: Right, so yeah, after that, once I heard.
- 41:01Speaker 2: That, I was done.
- 41:02Speaker 14: Oh, wow. I refuse to read these books. I will
- 41:04Speaker 14: only watch the movies if we watch the riff tracks.
- 41:07Speaker 4: But I just, again, I needed to watch it to
- 41:10Speaker 4: be able to get to these kind of questions because
- 41:11Speaker 4: that was my thing. I sat there going, okay, you
- 41:14Speaker 4: see the scenes, and that's the thing. I'll let it slide.
- 41:17Speaker 7: I don't hate the CGI wolves.
- 41:18Speaker 4: I think just because I like actual wolves and they
- 41:21Speaker 4: don't look like bad werewolves.
- 41:22Speaker 7: They just look like giant wolves. I'm like, okay, that's cool.
- 41:25Speaker 4: But, so, that's the thing, you see them, you know,
- 41:28Speaker 4: midway into that second movie, you see Jacob go running,
- 41:31Speaker 4: and in midair, transform into a wolf, his clothes tear away,
- 41:36Speaker 4: so yeah, I'm like, okay, in a minute, he's gonna transform.
- 41:38Speaker 7: Back, what, is he gonna run to the gap? I mean,
- 41:40Speaker 7: what the fuck is he gonna do now?
- 41:41Speaker 9: So.
- 41:43Speaker 7: And they all do it.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Banana Republic.
- 41:45Speaker 7: Depends on who sponsors the movie, I guess.
- 41:47Speaker 8: What's that other one?
- 41:48Speaker 1: Hollister?
- 41:49Speaker 8: Hollister, yeah. Fuck Hollister.
- 41:51Speaker 14: Graber Crombie?
- 41:52Speaker 7: That's the great Graber Crombie.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I love that you don't let anybody stop them like
- 41:59Speaker 1: they're royalty or something.
- 42:01Speaker 7: Hey, in America, they are royals.
- 42:03Speaker 8: They're not allowed to touch booger.
- 42:06Speaker 4: We don't have the royal family in this country, so
- 42:09Speaker 4: these are the closest thing we have.
- 42:11Speaker 8: Well, there is a charity.
- 42:13Speaker 14: We ain't got to worry about anybody stopping this douchebag, though.
- 42:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:15Speaker 7: I hate that guy. I won't even go into that.
- 42:19Speaker 14: I hate that guy.
- 42:20Speaker 8: I guess Harry gets more douchebaggy every time we see him.
- 42:22Speaker 7: Yes, he does.
- 42:23Speaker 14: All right, Wolves.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Yeah that's my thing because like by the end i
- 42:27Speaker 4: had that same question by the end of one of
- 42:30Speaker 4: the two they go into like the whole group of
- 42:32Speaker 4: them does it and then they like they were maybe
- 42:34Speaker 4: it was the third one when they're having a big
- 42:35Speaker 4: battle and they're all battling and then like two seconds
- 42:38Speaker 4: later they all come running out of the woods and
- 42:40Speaker 4: they've got pants on i'm just like where did you
- 42:42Speaker 4: is there an abercrombie behind that tree over there i'm
- 42:45Speaker 4: just like what the fuck And then, okay, you're going
- 42:49Speaker 4: with the, okay, it's hot, they can't wear their shirts,
- 42:52Speaker 4: it's too hot because they're wolves and they generate heat. Okay,
- 42:55Speaker 4: if that's the case, by movie three, when we get
- 42:57Speaker 4: a girl werewolf, topless girl werewolf.
- 43:00Speaker 5: Right.
- 43:00Speaker 4: I'm sorry, if that's the rule, and we're following the
- 43:03Speaker 4: rules through these first two movies, then by movie three...
- 43:06Speaker 4: I can get behind that kind of series. And that
- 43:09Speaker 4: girl's cute, so I mean, I think that seems fine.
- 43:12Speaker 4: I think if we're going to follow the rules, she
- 43:14Speaker 4: should be topless all the time. I'm just saying I
- 43:17Speaker 4: didn't set up the rules. Instead, she wears a goofy dress.
- 43:20Speaker 4: And then she tears out of that, too. And I'm like,
- 43:22Speaker 4: so later she has to go dress shopping again. What
- 43:24Speaker 4: the fuck kind of movie is this? What other randomness
- 43:27Speaker 4: do I have here? This one I did post online,
- 43:32Speaker 4: and it led to some interesting situations. Because midway in,
- 43:35Speaker 4: I was not officially live. I guess I was live
- 43:38Speaker 4: Facebooking it since I wasn't really on Twitter. Yeah, but
- 43:41Speaker 4: I kept posing questions to it as I was going along.
- 43:44Speaker 4: People would occasionally answer me back. So my initial one
- 43:47Speaker 4: was like, okay, I'm watching it. I don't see the confusion. Jacob,
- 43:51Speaker 4: pretty cool guy. Likes to work on his motorcycle. Seems
- 43:54Speaker 4: like a good guy to hang out with. And Douchebag,
- 43:57Speaker 4: who's honest.
- 43:58Speaker 9: Seriously.
- 43:59Speaker 8: Who watches you when you're sleeping.
- 44:01Speaker 14: And those are who she can be friends with, who
- 44:03Speaker 14: she can talk to.
- 44:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:04Speaker 14: He's kind of abusive.
- 44:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 7: And kind of creepy looking.
- 44:08Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 44:09Speaker 14: He is very unattractive.
- 44:10Speaker 7: I know girls like him and all, but I don't
- 44:12Speaker 7: get it because I'm just like, Jacob, okay, you know what?
- 44:14Speaker 7: I'm a straight guy, but I'm going to tell you,
- 44:16Speaker 7: Jacob's a hot dude. Dude, seriously.
- 44:17Speaker 14: Edward looks like he ran into a wall.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Edward looks like somebody pummeled his face, and that's been
- 44:21Speaker 4: a few years ago, and it's healed up now, but
- 44:23Speaker 4: it still looks a little off.
- 44:24Speaker 8: He looks like he'd be a good teen Frankenstein.
- 44:26Speaker 7: There you go. Where's that at? That would be awesome.
- 44:29Speaker 14: He is a very extremely unattractive individual.
- 44:32Speaker 4: And the whole series, not even movie, the entire series
- 44:35Speaker 4: of movies centers.
- 44:36Speaker 7: Around this, oh, which one? I'm torn. And I'm like,
- 44:39Speaker 7: what are you torn between? I'm like, this guy's cool.
- 44:42Speaker 7: This guy's a jerk. I don't understand it. That's how
- 44:45Speaker 7: life is.
- 44:47Speaker 4: Well, no, if it was really like life, they'd both
- 44:49Speaker 4: be complete jackasses because that's usually what girls are drawn to.
- 44:55Speaker 14: Yeah, Jacob's hot. I'm team mustache dad.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I think you need to cease calling him Jacob forever.
- 45:01Speaker 1: In my household, I could just call him Sharkboy.
- 45:04Speaker 7: Sharkboy's usually.
- 45:05Speaker 4: I did try to make the team Sharkboy movement, so,
- 45:08Speaker 4: you know.
- 45:09Speaker 14: Yeah, team mustache dad.
- 45:11Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 45:13Speaker 4: The second one, where we get into the Spirity Edward bullshit.
- 45:18Speaker 2: What is that?
- 45:19Speaker 7: I don't understand.
- 45:19Speaker 4: Like, it comes out of nowhere. They just introduced... Like,
- 45:22Speaker 4: the whole second... The whole second.
- 45:24Speaker 7: Part of the story is kind of just killing time.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Like, that whole second one, she's not really doing it.
- 45:29Speaker 4: The only thing that develops in that entire movie is
- 45:31Speaker 4: the relationship between her and Jacob. But, like, the whole
- 45:34Speaker 4: rest of the time, it's just, Edward's gone. Except for
- 45:37Speaker 4: his weird ghost. I have to jump off of cliffs
- 45:39Speaker 4: to see his ghosty bullshit.
- 45:41Speaker 1: And they all have secret powers, like all the different
- 45:44Speaker 1: vampires have.
- 45:45Speaker 4: I'm just like, but when did vampires get ghostly powers
- 45:49Speaker 4: that they would appear when you're in danger?
- 45:51Speaker 7: Is he Superman?
- 45:52Speaker 9: Right.
- 45:52Speaker 7: How does he know you're in danger?
- 45:54Speaker 9: Right.
- 45:54Speaker 14: That guy thinks he knows me.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I love how they had the whole... It's almost like
- 46:04Speaker 1: the Masonic group that they have that vampires are called.
- 46:08Speaker 7: What's all that shit about? It might be. Maybe that's
- 46:11Speaker 7: the basis of it.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 46:14Speaker 7: We've had some questions about the Masons.
- 46:16Speaker 8: What's the name of the hierarchy?
- 46:19Speaker 2: Vulturi? It's the Vulturi.
- 46:21Speaker 14: Wow, why do I fucking know this?
- 46:22Speaker 7: Because you're a dork. Same reason we all do. We
- 46:25Speaker 7: can make fun of it, but the sad part is
- 46:27Speaker 7: it's still in there.
- 46:27Speaker 2: She's a closet fan.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Dude, seriously, no.
- 46:32Speaker 14: I honestly have no shame. If I liked this movie,
- 46:35Speaker 14: I would be all about it.
- 46:36Speaker 7: That's true. She has owned up to many things that
- 46:38Speaker 7: are worse than.
- 46:39Speaker 14: I fucking like Southland Tales. I don't care what anybody
- 46:41Speaker 14: fucking says.
- 46:42Speaker 7: That's not worse than that, though. It's more confusing. You
- 46:44Speaker 7: can like Southland Tales without... Yeah, there's some good stuff
- 46:47Speaker 7: in Southland Tales.
- 46:47Speaker 8: I like Southland Tales, too.
- 46:49Speaker 7: There's good stuff.
- 46:49Speaker 14: I'm like, dude, where's my car?
- 46:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:52Speaker 7: There's good stuff in that movie.
- 46:53Speaker 9: You know what?
- 46:53Speaker 7: It's good up until a point, and then it just goes...
- 46:56Speaker 7: You're just blowing a hole in all my stuff, aren't you? No,
- 46:59Speaker 7: it's really good.
- 47:00Speaker 2: No, I didn't blow a hole in Silent Hill. I
- 47:02Speaker 2: supported that. I'm saying it's.
- 47:03Speaker 14: Good until a point. Everybody made fun of it.
- 47:06Speaker 7: I have issues with it, but it's not 100% bad.
- 47:09Speaker 7: That's what I've said from day one.
- 47:10Speaker 8: Because you refuse to watch it.
- 47:12Speaker 14: You hate Ashton Kutcher.
- 47:14Speaker 8: No, I thought there was some other reason you were
- 47:16Speaker 8: going to make me watch it.
- 47:16Speaker 14: Because it's fucking awesome.
- 47:17Speaker 2: That's why.
- 47:18Speaker 8: No, you were like, you made me watch this, so
- 47:20Speaker 8: we're going to watch.
- 47:21Speaker 7: I don't remember what it was.
- 47:25Speaker 14: I tried to sit through that one movie.
- 47:28Speaker 7: Which movie?
- 47:28Speaker 14: I tried to watch a 10-hour movie.
- 47:33Speaker 8: Oh, Galaxy Quest?
- 47:34Speaker 14: I tried.
- 47:35Speaker 8: That's a pretty good movie.
- 47:37Speaker 4: I still feel like I need to watch Galaxy Quest.
- 47:39Speaker 7: You've not seen it either? I put it off because
- 47:41Speaker 7: it was still a Tim Allen movie at the time.
- 47:42Speaker 7: And then later I heard everybody go, no, actually, it's
- 47:45Speaker 7: kind of smart.
- 47:46Speaker 8: It's a really good movie.
- 47:48Speaker 4: It knows the group it's making fun of. It's got
- 47:51Speaker 4: to get past the Tim Allen. It's kind of doing
- 47:52Speaker 4: it respectfully. So I'm like, well, you know, I'm all
- 47:56Speaker 4: for that.
- 47:56Speaker 7: But I still haven't gotten around to it.
- 47:58Speaker 14: All right.
- 47:59Speaker 4: So, okay, back to the Twilight notes. Okay, here's my
- 48:02Speaker 4: other thing. The Jacob and Bella story is kind of interesting.
- 48:07Speaker 4: I guess that's the only part of it that gets
- 48:10Speaker 4: that portion of it. But when it comes back to
- 48:12Speaker 4: the Edward, I don't care anymore. I'm just like, this
- 48:14Speaker 4: is a bad relationship.
- 48:16Speaker 7: Get out of it. Move on with the story. Because
- 48:19Speaker 7: I realize that's the most.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Her little love life is the most boring part of
- 48:22Speaker 4: this entire arc.
- 48:23Speaker 7: And it's built on that.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Because then you get into, like, the third one, when
- 48:28Speaker 4: you get into the bad vampires that are, like, collecting
- 48:32Speaker 4: on the outskirts in the city, and they're going to
- 48:35Speaker 4: make their way in, and they're going to start.
- 48:37Speaker 8: But you've got to understand, Brian, you're not a teen
- 48:39Speaker 8: girl who likes vampires.
- 48:40Speaker 7: Teen girls don't have to be idiots. I'm sorry. That's
- 48:44Speaker 7: the thing. That third one, there's a cool story.
- 48:45Speaker 4: And the more I watched it, I was like, the
- 48:47Speaker 4: vampire's waiting to move into the city, and they're going
- 48:49Speaker 4: to start a war on them. The more I thought
- 48:51Speaker 4: about it, I was like, you know, that kind of
- 48:52Speaker 4: sounds like a... A final end of the season plot, like,
- 48:56Speaker 4: season arc of Buffy. Remember, like, the whole season arc? Like,
- 49:01Speaker 4: I can see, like, that kind of playing in. Again,
- 49:04Speaker 4: it would be a million times.
- 49:05Speaker 7: Better because Buffy was amazingly well put together. So, I
- 49:09Speaker 7: don't know. That's my thing. I'm just like, there's a,
- 49:12Speaker 7: at least in that third one. The second one, there's
- 49:14Speaker 7: nothing there. It's a waste of time. But the third one,
- 49:16Speaker 7: at least, I was just like, okay, there's at least
- 49:18Speaker 7: the element of it.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Entertaining story by the end of that the relationship bullshit
- 49:23Speaker 4: is in fact that bullshit but i'm like by the
- 49:25Speaker 4: end there's a good story and they fuck all that
- 49:27Speaker 4: up too just like why are you wasting these stories i.
- 49:30Speaker 7: Don't know wow I'm not even.
- 49:32Speaker 8: Sure what that is.
- 49:33Speaker 14: Have you seen her bra?
- 49:34Speaker 7: Check out the bra.
- 49:35Speaker 5: Wow.
- 49:35Speaker 8: That's wild.
- 49:36Speaker 12: Yep.
- 49:37Speaker 14: Look at her face. She's got a butter face.
- 49:39Speaker 8: A fairy.
- 49:40Speaker 7: A whole.
- 49:41Speaker 2: A lot of butter face.
- 49:41Speaker 8: A horror princess thing.
- 49:43Speaker 2: All right.
- 49:44Speaker 14: Anything else about the shitty movies?
- 49:45Speaker 8: Your costume would be complete with a mask.
- 49:47Speaker 4: We tried to sell her on one over at her table. Like,
- 49:50Speaker 4: look at this wide array of masks. Please buy one.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Please buy one.
- 49:54Speaker 8: You need one that covers your whole face, not just
- 49:56Speaker 8: the top half.
- 49:57Speaker 4: None of this Lone Ranger access. I want a full
- 49:59Speaker 4: Michael Myers mask. So, yeah, that's what I was thinking. Like,
- 50:05Speaker 4: the battle scene thing in the third one could be
- 50:07Speaker 4: cool in a real movie. And then I was thinking,
- 50:09Speaker 4: even the very end of the second one, like, the vampire, like,
- 50:13Speaker 4: hierarchy in the second one is interesting.
- 50:15Speaker 7: Like, again, because it doesn't involve Bella or their bullshit
- 50:19Speaker 7: love story. But I'm like, the.
- 50:22Speaker 7: Way that the system is organized.
- 50:23Speaker 4: Could be interesting in another movie why I'm not watching
- 50:27Speaker 4: that movie if it was just better made that's what
- 50:30Speaker 4: makes me angry it's just like if it was better
- 50:33Speaker 4: done there's elements of a story in there that could
- 50:35Speaker 4: really be interesting and could be turned into something cool
- 50:38Speaker 4: and instead we get this.
- 50:41Speaker 14: That's what the tween girls want they want that stupid
- 50:44Speaker 14: romantic love story with an abusive jackass that's.
- 50:47Speaker 4: The thing just write it better i don't mind you
- 50:49Speaker 4: know there's a yes you need to fill that void
- 50:51Speaker 4: in the market for for romance and you gotta have
- 50:54Speaker 4: something to tap into that age group too but i'm
- 50:56Speaker 4: just like Why?
- 50:57Speaker 7: Why is this the dumbest of all of them, the
- 50:59Speaker 7: one that catch on?
- 51:00Speaker 5: Right.
- 51:01Speaker 8: I couldn't tell if that one girl had zombie makeup
- 51:04Speaker 8: on or if she just had really bad acne.
- 51:05Speaker 5: Yeah, bad acne.
- 51:07Speaker 7: Oh, the only upside I have to Dakota Fanning, badass.
- 51:11Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 51:12Speaker 7: Her just, like, mind-beating the hell out of people was
- 51:15Speaker 7: kind of awesome.
- 51:15Speaker 4: Like, I could watch her do that in a good movie.
- 51:18Speaker 4: Why it's in this movie, I don't know. But once again,
- 51:19Speaker 4: when she's using the Force on vampires, I'm like, That's awesome.
- 51:23Speaker 4: I want a force-using vampire. Again, something that doesn't belong
- 51:26Speaker 4: in the mythology at all.
- 51:27Speaker 1: No, it's like, yeah, some amalgamation between, like, ghosts and
- 51:31Speaker 1: vampires and Jedis.
- 51:34Speaker 8: That's not a vampire. None of it makes any sense.
- 51:36Speaker 8: She's kind of dressed like a Jedi, too.
- 51:38Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:38Speaker 4: Like the newer, the prequel movies when they all dress
- 51:41Speaker 4: like hippies and monks and shit. This one is specifically
- 51:45Speaker 4: for YouTube, probably Misty more than anybody. I did get
- 51:49Speaker 4: midway into that second movie and I went, Okay, she's right.
- 51:52Speaker 7: What the hell is wrong with Jasper's face?
- 51:54Speaker 14: Poop face.
- 51:55Speaker 2: What is wrong?
- 51:55Speaker 7: Like, why does he make that face all the time?
- 51:58Speaker 8: He's got a poop.
- 51:58Speaker 2: I guess.
- 52:00Speaker 14: How's it going? How's it going, baby?
- 52:03Speaker 7: He's doing the face, ladies and gentlemen. He's doing the face.
- 52:07Speaker 7: The face that plays on a podcast. Do vampires... He's
- 52:11Speaker 7: got to poop.
- 52:12Speaker 8: He's got to take a shit.
- 52:13Speaker 7: Are they not able to use the potty? Is that
- 52:14Speaker 7: a problem? Is that part of the mythology now?
- 52:16Speaker 2: That comes out in the fourth book.
- 52:17Speaker 8: He just did.
- 52:18Speaker 7: Comes out in the fourth book. I get it. He
- 52:23Speaker 7: didn't have a.
- 52:24Speaker 14: Problem with Bella's face and her constant twitching?
- 52:26Speaker 7: I'm just used to that, but I just hadn't looked
- 52:30Speaker 7: at him.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Her lip biting?
- 52:31Speaker 4: I've blocked her out is the funny part. She's the
- 52:33Speaker 4: last thing I'm paying attention to in this movie. It
- 52:35Speaker 4: centers around her character, and she's the last thing I'm
- 52:38Speaker 4: looking for.
- 52:39Speaker 7: That wolf's cool. Oh, look, look.
- 52:41Speaker 8: You still on the second movie, or we got in
- 52:43Speaker 8: the third?
- 52:43Speaker 2: They're all very different.
- 52:44Speaker 7: It's run into one big thing. And like I said,
- 52:46Speaker 7: I just started writing shit down.
- 52:47Speaker 14: I just feel like we're talking way too damn much
- 52:48Speaker 14: about this movie.
- 52:49Speaker 8: Okay, well, did you notice his all of a sudden
- 52:51Speaker 8: switching to a southern drawl when they start talking about him?
- 52:53Speaker 8: He used to be a Confederate soldier.
- 52:55Speaker 7: That's another part.
- 52:56Speaker 4: I'm like, you know, working in this weird backstory from
- 52:59Speaker 4: the Civil War could be good.
- 53:01Speaker 7: Eh, kind of dumb in this movie. It kind of
- 53:04Speaker 7: doesn't really make that much sense.
- 53:05Speaker 8: Teenage girls don't give a shit about the Civil War.
- 53:08Speaker 4: But working in, they've done horror movies that sort of
- 53:11Speaker 4: go back to the Civil War.
- 53:12Speaker 7: So I'm like, there's ways to do that. This isn't it.
- 53:16Speaker 7: Let's see. We'll try to round it out here because
- 53:17Speaker 7: we're sick of these movies.
- 53:18Speaker 14: I am.
- 53:19Speaker 7: Okay, here's what I will give it.
- 53:21Speaker 4: Aside from Dakota, about the only thing that was good
- 53:27Speaker 4: in the entire run.
- 53:28Speaker 7: Billy Boy? The scene with them in the tent while
- 53:32Speaker 7: she's asleep.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Again, the best part of it, she's asleep and not
- 53:34Speaker 4: talking or biting her lip or twitching or any of
- 53:36Speaker 4: that shit. But the dialogue there, the exchange between them
- 53:40Speaker 4: is actually kind of interesting. That's the first time in
- 53:43Speaker 4: that entire series I went, you know, this scene isn't bad.
- 53:47Speaker 4: And it's because it's such a weird, awkward situation they're in,
- 53:50Speaker 4: and they kind of throw it out on the table,
- 53:52Speaker 4: and they're.
- 53:53Speaker 7: Just like, okay, this is, I don't know, I thought
- 53:55Speaker 7: that was an interesting scene. I don't want to just
- 53:58Speaker 7: bash on it. I saw one good thing in it,
- 54:00Speaker 7: aside from Dakota, and that was it. So, there. I
- 54:03Speaker 7: balanced it out. As much as I humanly possible.
- 54:06Speaker 2: You're much too kind.
- 54:08Speaker 7: As much as humanly possible, I balanced it out. And then, okay,
- 54:11Speaker 7: I do have to get back to the point that
- 54:12Speaker 7: you made a couple of weeks ago. When did they
- 54:15Speaker 7: turn porcelain?
- 54:15Speaker 14: Dude, seriously.
- 54:17Speaker 4: I mean, they killed a vampire in the first movie.
- 54:19Speaker 4: Did that happen when they killed Ponytail and Douchebag? Yeah.
- 54:22Speaker 8: No.
- 54:22Speaker 2: I don't remember. They had to cut him up.
- 54:24Speaker 7: But I don't remember. Yeah, it's like maybe they just
- 54:25Speaker 7: didn't show it so we didn't see.
- 54:27Speaker 14: But they ripped him to pieces.
- 54:28Speaker 7: Yeah. And I don't remember there being.
- 54:30Speaker 8: It didn't seem like much to rip him to pieces.
- 54:32Speaker 8: All they had to do was just shatter him.
- 54:34Speaker 7: But I was like, did you change your mind midway
- 54:36Speaker 7: into your own series?
- 54:38Speaker 2: Like, what happened?
- 54:38Speaker 8: You can't glue them back together.
- 54:40Speaker 4: And again, I have the real, much like the shirtless
- 54:42Speaker 4: Jacob story, I have the real reason. The real reason
- 54:45Speaker 4: is we want to keep this PG-13. If we make
- 54:47Speaker 4: this a bloodbath, we're not going.
- 54:49Speaker 7: To be able to do this. Now, how can we
- 54:50Speaker 7: kill them.
- 54:51Speaker 4: make it sort of, you know, a big deal that
- 54:54Speaker 4: we're killing them and yet not show blood.
- 54:55Speaker 8: They could have turned to dust like in Buffy.
- 54:57Speaker 7: See, that was the Buffy out, but the Buffy out.
- 54:59Speaker 14: Then they're turning to dust like in Buffy.
- 55:00Speaker 7: Like in Buffy. So they had to go a different way.
- 55:02Speaker 7: How about porcelain?
- 55:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 55:05Speaker 4: I just.
- 55:06Speaker 7: And that's what I didn't understand.
- 55:07Speaker 4: Once again, if you made that and introduced it from
- 55:09Speaker 4: the first one, but why would you change Midway into
- 55:11Speaker 4: your own series?
- 55:12Speaker 7: That just makes no sense to me.
- 55:14Speaker 8: I like that they explode into a big glob of
- 55:16Speaker 8: goo on True Blood.
- 55:19Speaker 7: That was, yeah, that was pretty legit.
- 55:21Speaker 4: That was all, after a while I think I quit
- 55:22Speaker 4: writing because I was tired of it altogether.
- 55:25Speaker 7: I was just glad like three hours and twenty minutes
- 55:29Speaker 7: later when I was finally escaped that thing. It was
- 55:32Speaker 7: a lot of watching.
- 55:33Speaker 5: Alright.
- 55:34Speaker 14: You go that way, you drunken fool.
- 55:36Speaker 8: I don't understand this guy. He seems to think he
- 55:38Speaker 8: knows me, but He's a complete asshole.
- 55:42Speaker 7: You get that a lot, actually.
- 55:44Speaker 5: I know.
- 55:44Speaker 8: A lot of people think they know me, but they don't.
- 55:46Speaker 5: Me too.
- 55:46Speaker 14: People think that I'm Rachel from Cincinnati.
- 55:49Speaker 7: Would you just come to terms with the fact that
- 55:50Speaker 7: you are Rachel?
- 55:50Speaker 14: Was it Rachel?
- 55:51Speaker 7: Was that the name that I was getting?
- 55:52Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 55:52Speaker 7: You keep calling her.
- 55:54Speaker 5: Nashville.
- 55:54Speaker 8: No, Nashville.
- 55:55Speaker 7: You keep calling her Rachel, so now I just assume
- 55:57Speaker 7: she is Rachel.
- 55:58Speaker 8: No, it's Rachel.
- 55:59Speaker 7: Oh, man. Well, I think I'll round out that half, so...
- 56:02Speaker 7: That was it from mine.
- 56:03Speaker 4: We're going to break up the rest of these crazy
- 56:06Speaker 4: goings on.
- 56:07Speaker 7: So we'll take a break and be back. Yes, he is.
- 56:10Speaker 7: Right over there.
- 56:11Speaker 8: Oh, he's so fucking fast.
- 56:13Speaker 2: I disagree.
- 56:15Speaker 14: He's got a tramp stamp, too.
- 56:17Speaker 7: It's not six-sided dies and twelve-sided dies.
- 56:21Speaker 9: Look after my heart.
- 56:23Speaker 17: Even if we're worlds apart, you're only scared of me.
- 56:29Speaker 17: When you're in my car, maybe because.
- 56:31Speaker 7: We're in the dark.
- 56:34Speaker 17: We can't see my shiny spot.
- 56:36Speaker 7: I love you.
- 56:38Speaker 2: I want you right now.
- 56:40Speaker 5: Yes, I love you.
- 56:41Speaker 17: Because when the moon shines, we'll sparkle together. Told you
- 56:45Speaker 17: that I'll live forever. Said I'm not human, but I'm
- 56:49Speaker 17: still a man. I'll never criticize Romeo again.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Thank heaven I'm.
- 56:54Speaker 15: Not your father.
- 56:55Speaker 17: Knowing that we still have each other.
- 56:58Speaker 7: You can be my Bella.
- 57:00Speaker 2: You can be my Bella.
- 57:02Speaker 7: Bella, Bella, Bella.
- 57:04Speaker 8: Hey, hey, hey.
- 57:06Speaker 7: You can be my Bella.

- 58:38Speaker 11: Thomas Howell.
- 58:39Speaker 15: There you will be So young and carefree.
- 58:45Speaker 7: We're here for C. Thomas Howell.
- 58:47Speaker 4: I guess so early on you get just sort of
- 58:50Speaker 4: interested in stunt work?
- 58:51Speaker 7: Is that how you got into it?
- 58:52Speaker 2: Well, my father's a stuntman, so I grew up planning
- 58:55Speaker 2: on being a stuntman.
- 58:57Speaker 10: I did a lot of stunt work as a child,
- 58:59Speaker 10: you know, and that's a real nepotistic industry, the stunt world.
- 59:04Speaker 10: You know, most stuntmen have their kids and they grow
- 59:07Speaker 10: up to, you know, take over. the family business, so
- 59:10Speaker 10: to speak, but, you know, I sort of got lucky,
- 59:14Speaker 10: and at a young age, I was hired to work
- 59:16Speaker 10: on a little movie called E.T., and I was pretty
- 59:20Speaker 10: much hired to be a stunt kid that could act,
- 59:22Speaker 10: you know, I could do a lot of the stunts
- 59:24Speaker 10: on the bikes, and whatnot, and most of the other
- 59:26Speaker 10: actors weren't real athletic, so to speak, and um so
- 59:31Speaker 10: i got that gig because i could do the the
- 59:35Speaker 10: tough stuff really yeah and then you know slowly but
- 59:39Speaker 10: surely i thought well this is cool but i never
- 59:41Speaker 10: i never planned on being an actor or anything and
- 59:44Speaker 10: then i got this audition for francis coppola to do
- 59:47Speaker 10: the outsiders which turned into probably 30 auditions and um
- 59:51Speaker 10: you know after about three months of that i i
- 59:53Speaker 10: ended up nabbing the role of pony boy so I
- 59:57Speaker 10: had a career going from Spielberg to Coppola, and the
- 59:59Speaker 10: next thing you know, the stunt kid from Valencia, California
- 1:00:04Speaker 10: turned into an actor.
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: Yeah, that's an impressive way to start off your career
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: with those two. Pretty much downhill since.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: That sets the bar pretty high. I guess I was
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: just going to give you a chance to kind of...
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: tell people what you've got working on. I mean, you've,
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: you've gone into a lot of.
- 1:00:19Speaker 10: You know, I've just, I'm on a new series on TNT.
- 1:00:23Speaker 10: We're going into our four seasons called Southland. I play, uh, uh,
- 1:00:27Speaker 10: an LAPD recovering alcoholic and, you know, not the most
- 1:00:31Speaker 10: likable guy on the force, but again, it's one of
- 1:00:33Speaker 10: the best parts I've ever had.
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: So I just look forward to going to work every
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: day on that.
- 1:00:36Speaker 10: And I've got a small part in a new Spider-Man
- 1:00:39Speaker 10: coming out next summer. And, um, you know, I'm just,
- 1:00:42Speaker 10: I'm just really happy to be a working actor and,
- 1:00:45Speaker 10: with a large body of work underneath him and draw
- 1:00:48Speaker 10: from my experience and continue to grow and learn and
