In April 2022, Ian Maxwell, the brother of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, claimed that Prince Andrew had little choice but to settle Virginia Roberts Giuffre's sexual assault lawsuit because of the damage the allegations were causing to Queen Elizabeth II and the British monarchy. Speaking with journalist Jay Beecher, Maxwell argued that Andrew had been placed in an impossible position as his mother's Platinum Jubilee approached and wanted to avoid causing her further embarrassment.
