- 0:16Speaker 2: As I continue on here in my substitution role, well
- 0:20Speaker 2: my new found friend, then station seven to ten woar,
- 0:25Speaker 2: which I hope will be all of yours, substituting for
- 0:29Speaker 2: the best guy in talk radio in the trich State area,
- 0:32Speaker 2: bar Non Mark Simone. I mean he's a smooth operator.
- 0:38Speaker 2: And I'll be with you until January second, the day
- 0:42Speaker 2: after the ball drops, you know, I'm in Times Square
- 0:46Speaker 2: with the Guardian Angels. And then the next day we'll
- 0:48Speaker 2: see about the inauguration of Johan Mandami with Bernie the
- 0:53Speaker 2: out the Coca Sanders standing there in city Hall. Look
- 0:57Speaker 2: a lot to deal with coming up, but a lot
- 1:00Speaker 2: to deal with me here and now, because is he
- 1:03Speaker 2: who's on the boards formerly a refugee from WABC. Used
- 1:08Speaker 2: to be always broadcasting Curtis No more, it's always booked
- 1:11Speaker 2: bashing Curtis so good, good that you hear? Is he
- 1:15Speaker 2: much better place? And as you know from my many
- 1:19Speaker 2: years of broadcasting, whenever the temperatures would get below freezing,
- 1:25Speaker 2: I would have a phrase that was taught to me
- 1:27Speaker 2: by my father Chester, who grew up in the Chicago
- 1:31Speaker 2: area right off of Lake Michigan, when there were real
- 1:35Speaker 2: winters with real snow storms twenty foot more before we
- 1:42Speaker 2: had global warming and climate change. I know a lot
- 1:46Speaker 2: of you it's a fake fake, it's not fake global
- 1:49Speaker 2: warming and climate change. Let me tell you it is
- 1:51Speaker 2: not fake. But no hawk is talking. Now, you're not city.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I've heard that phrase over the years. What does that mean?
- 2:02Speaker 2: The hawk is talking? Actually came out of Chicago's South Side,
- 2:06Speaker 2: where my dad was from and his family on the
- 2:09Speaker 2: polar side of my family forty six in Rockwell. I
- 2:13Speaker 2: actually spent four years going up there from ages one
- 2:16Speaker 2: to five and then came back to Brooklyn. But the
- 2:21Speaker 2: hawk was talking, I think was first said by Louis Armstrong.
- 2:27Speaker 2: That's say, play that horn. Louis from North Corona in Queens,
- 2:32Speaker 2: right opposite where Tony Bennet grew up, the crooner from Estoria,
- 2:37Speaker 2: the estorya kid. Yeah, oh they got him. You see
- 2:39Speaker 2: him near the house of Louis Armstrong. But Louis Armstrong
- 2:44Speaker 2: would come into the South Side black jazz clubs frequented
- 2:49Speaker 2: by whites and blacks, interracial crowd and because it felt
- 2:53Speaker 2: like it was forty degrees below zero wind chill fact
- 2:56Speaker 2: up because the winds were coming off of Lake Michigan.
- 3:02Speaker 2: He would say, the hawk is talking because his lips
- 3:06Speaker 2: which is so frozen. Like the other performers, they tell you, basically,
- 3:10Speaker 2: it's gonna take like five or ten minutes from my
- 3:12Speaker 2: lips to unfreeze. So I be able to play that
- 3:17Speaker 2: horn now, which probably didn't know, or maybe some of
- 3:20Speaker 2: you knew that Louis Armstrong probably consumed and inhaled and
- 3:27Speaker 2: exhaled more reef for more marijuana than anybody else during
- 3:31Speaker 2: the jazz era. That's what he was knowing. In fact,
- 3:34Speaker 2: he would actually shotgun you through the horn, which meant
- 3:39Speaker 2: basically he would inhale it and then exhal it through
- 3:41Speaker 2: the horn and right into your schnazola. Long before the
- 3:46Speaker 2: nineteen sixties, peace, love and happiness, Hate Ashbury Woodstock, half
- 3:52Speaker 2: a million strong up the New York State through it. Yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 2: a long time before the era that we called the
- 3:59Speaker 2: counterculture there. I grew up in the ear of the hippies,
- 4:02Speaker 2: era of the Hippies. Well, anyway, the hawk is talking,
- 4:07Speaker 2: and it reminded me at the times we would go
- 4:09Speaker 2: visit the Polish side of the family Christmas Easter. My
- 4:15Speaker 2: dad had put everybody in the fifty four Ford station
- 4:19Speaker 2: wagon Old Betsy, you know, whitewall tires, wood panels, and
- 4:24Speaker 2: we'd be going through all different areas. I mean, we
- 4:27Speaker 2: ended up going across Phillipsburg from Jersey, across the bridge
- 4:32Speaker 2: through Easton, which was the home of Larry Holmes world
- 4:37Speaker 2: champion heavyweight. Obviously not back in the early sixties when
- 4:42Speaker 2: we were riding through there. And then I remember Allentown
- 4:44Speaker 2: and Bethlehem had the US Steel Plan going. Now it's
- 4:47Speaker 2: a casino, and we go through Pittsburgh three ships around
- 4:51Speaker 2: the clock on an orange plume would hang over the
- 4:54Speaker 2: city because of all the steel mills. And then eventually
- 4:58Speaker 2: through Gary, Indiana, South Chicago, the steel mills there going
- 5:02Speaker 2: three shifts right into Chicago itself. That's when Steele was
- 5:07Speaker 2: king in the United States. Now you have US Steel
- 5:11Speaker 2: partly owned by the Japanese, partly owned by the United States.
- 5:15Speaker 2: To the Trump administration to keep all that steel being
- 5:17Speaker 2: made here, right boy, that's a throwback. And I remember
- 5:22Speaker 2: we'd go out to the sleep With compound. By then
- 5:25Speaker 2: they were out in Lockport, which was between Joliet had
- 5:30Speaker 2: that walled prison there in Chicago, and they had the subdivisions,
- 5:35Speaker 2: and my job was to go out and slap the hogs.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah, slap the hogs after the feed for the family.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And I learned there were the two of the smartest
- 5:46Speaker 2: animals ever, the hogs, the pigs and the crows who
- 5:51Speaker 2: were out there in the cornfields, you know, with these
- 5:54Speaker 2: scarecrows trying to scam away. My dad, in fact, when
- 5:57Speaker 2: he was young, had Jimmy the crow was his pet.
- 6:00Speaker 2: He would fly with him to and from school to
- 6:03Speaker 2: Sherman Park in his public school, and he would wait
- 6:06Speaker 2: there on the window sill until my dad was ready
- 6:08Speaker 2: to walk home again to the south side. Forty six
- 6:11Speaker 2: and Brockwell, that's a little bit of that side issue.
- 6:15Speaker 2: But let's talk about this storm warning and the fact
- 6:20Speaker 2: that many of you are you know, well, you gotta
- 6:24Speaker 2: sort of go back in time to remember when heavy
- 6:27Speaker 2: snowfalls were common and now it's an exception to the rule.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And I've always said, why is it different now? I
- 6:36Speaker 2: say global warming, climate change. Look what's happening in southern
- 6:40Speaker 2: California there. It's like a tsunami has hit the area.
- 6:44Speaker 2: But oh no, no, it's of course not you know, Okay,
- 6:48Speaker 2: you could have your opinion. I have my opinion. But
- 6:51Speaker 2: I remember it'd be like fourteen sixteen foot of snow
- 6:57Speaker 2: had to go out, put the chains on the tires
- 7:01Speaker 2: the buses, the klang klang huge, I mean, the sanitation
- 7:07Speaker 2: bulldozers would push the snow all to an area, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 2: almost like amount rushmore there on the corners. You don't
- 7:14Speaker 2: have that anymore. And it's interesting as we were hearing
- 7:18Speaker 2: these forecasts, because Nancy was driving me all through the
- 7:22Speaker 2: tri state area visiting her relatives.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Uh.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And also, oh, some interesting information I picked up at
- 7:32Speaker 2: a copper crow remember as the crow flies. That's on
- 7:36Speaker 2: Broadway and Olmony Capitol Land. What is that is the
- 7:39Speaker 2: crow flies? It's the most direct straight line distance between
- 7:43Speaker 2: two places. Yep, a great place, coppyler. And man, did
- 7:47Speaker 2: I learn a lot about how Republicans are throwing the
- 7:53Speaker 2: party under the bus that will not have those chains,
- 7:58Speaker 2: those old iron chains at all. No, no, no, no, but
- 8:01Speaker 2: thrown under the bush with as you know, Alice Stephonic
- 8:06Speaker 2: leaving the race. Oh that's gonna be operation hush hush,
- 8:09Speaker 2: mush much. You're not gonna want to miss it because
- 8:12Speaker 2: I'm connecting all the dots. As i worked my way
- 8:15Speaker 2: through troy Almanies, connected the Hamilton Hill, all these places
- 8:23Speaker 2: again with the predictions where snow. You know snow is coming.
- 8:28Speaker 2: What I said as the crow flies, a lot of
- 8:32Speaker 2: crows up there, smart animals, smart birds and anyway, I
- 8:37Speaker 2: said to myself, Wow. And then people coming up to me,
- 8:41Speaker 2: no matter where I was, because obviously I'm wearing the
- 8:43Speaker 2: red but Ray, the red SAT Team jacket, and they're
- 8:46Speaker 2: giving me all kinds of information about what I should
- 8:49Speaker 2: be doing with my life. Yeah, is he I'm up
- 8:51Speaker 2: there in Capitol Leant. Oh man, you should be on
- 8:54Speaker 2: WG wire. I heard you on WO off and watch
- 8:57Speaker 2: some morth. I said, why would I want to be
- 8:58Speaker 2: on WGY A ten big station up there in Albany.
- 9:01Speaker 2: But I'm not coming up here at Albany. I've spent
- 9:05Speaker 2: time in the South End in Aubury, Hilm. I'm not
- 9:07Speaker 2: coming up to Albany. And then on my way down
- 9:12Speaker 2: at one of those rest stops in the New York
- 9:14Speaker 2: State Thruway, you know, before we hit Marwall. You know,
- 9:17Speaker 2: we went from Rockland and then into New Jersey and
- 9:19Speaker 2: now threw Fortney over the GW bridge and I looked
- 9:23Speaker 2: up and there was Eric Adams, a swaggerman with no plans,
- 9:27Speaker 2: apartment that he's lived in for years, you know, with
- 9:30Speaker 2: his what is no his boo, his beard, Tracy and
- 9:34Speaker 2: then the other girl friend, the weightlifter underneath apartment twenty
- 9:37Speaker 2: two eighth. I'm not going to give you the address,
- 9:39Speaker 2: And I said to myself, man, I've come full circle.
- 9:43Speaker 2: And then as we finally get into the apartment, it's
- 9:47Speaker 2: in the wee hours in the morning, and what does
- 9:49Speaker 2: my wife do, Nancy the best thing that ever happened
- 9:53Speaker 2: to me. She starts binge watching The Office, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 2: the show from Stratton, Jersey with Steve Carell as Michael
- 10:03Speaker 2: and Dwight and Jim. And she's got on the episode
- 10:07Speaker 2: which is I guess you'd call it the snowball episode
- 10:10Speaker 2: Classy Christmas, in which the whole concept is it's not
- 10:15Speaker 2: a real snowfall if it's just a dusting of snow.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Oh man, if you haven't seen this, you gotta you
- 10:23Speaker 2: gotta watch that episode. Well, one of my favorite TV shows. Again,
- 10:28Speaker 2: Nancy loves to binge watch, you know. As we come
- 10:31Speaker 2: into New Year's I'll be very busy, as I always am,
- 10:34Speaker 2: but uh never busy enough to miss Rod shirling in
- 10:38Speaker 2: the Twilight Zone and the non stop showing of some
- 10:42Speaker 2: of the greatest TV programs of all time. Speaking of
- 10:45Speaker 2: upstate New York state, if he was from Beington, New York,
- 10:48Speaker 2: Day finally put up a statue to his honor in
- 10:50Speaker 2: the park. Deb Boy, I'm moving in a lot of
- 10:54Speaker 2: different directions here because a true snow snowfall is determined
- 11:01Speaker 2: by whether you can make snowballs, whether it's packing snow,
- 11:04Speaker 2: because if it's too light, you can't make a snowfall.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Even if there's some accumulation, it's all about packing snow.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And already you heard the news reports are there. They're
- 11:16Speaker 2: moving out there with all the rock salt. They're spreading
- 11:20Speaker 2: it in advance. Why why you know is he where
- 11:22Speaker 2: the rock salt comes from? Do you have any idea
- 11:26Speaker 2: underneath Detroit? When I was in Detroit, they have canyons
- 11:31Speaker 2: under ground in which they are mining salt rock salt
- 11:37Speaker 2: now for de icing, But back then when I first
- 11:40Speaker 2: saw it, leather, food, processing, all things underneath Detroit, a
- 11:45Speaker 2: thousand feet down. I don't know if people will where
- 11:48Speaker 2: are that that's where the salt comes from. And I'm saying,
- 11:51Speaker 2: why are you gonna throw salt on the ground. First
- 11:54Speaker 2: of all, it's gonna eat up the asphalt. Then you're
- 11:57Speaker 2: gonna have potholes of the size of lunar craters. And
- 12:01Speaker 2: then while you're driving along they already hate drivers in
- 12:04Speaker 2: so many places, especially New York City. Now you're undercarriage
- 12:09Speaker 2: is gonna be thrown out all of a sudden, Your
- 12:11Speaker 2: bull bearings will need adjustment, your trott will end up
- 12:17Speaker 2: sort of becoming bent into shape. You have to end
- 12:20Speaker 2: up in a fender bended shop. And a lot of
- 12:22Speaker 2: that has to do with it's spreading rock salt to ride.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Why not do what they do it up in Wisconsin
- 12:27Speaker 2: where they're used to actual snow or for lake mission
- 12:31Speaker 2: in Milwaukee. Is they spread a combination of beats, yeah, beats,
- 12:39Speaker 2: a brine or a cheese brine so that it doesn't
- 12:44Speaker 2: end up destroying the asphalt and creating those potholes which
- 12:49Speaker 2: become lunar craters. And by the way, then the deer
- 12:53Speaker 2: come out. That's the other problem in Wisconsin. The deer
- 12:56Speaker 2: come out and they want to lick up the beets
- 12:58Speaker 2: and the cheese off the asphalt. And boy, we saw
- 13:04Speaker 2: a lot of deer on all way down coming from
- 13:07Speaker 2: Capital Land last night. And I know for some of
- 13:11Speaker 2: you you look at deer as if it's agent Orange
- 13:14Speaker 2: in hooves, because they eat up everything like a pac
- 13:18Speaker 2: Man packed woman. Don't say that to my wife, Nancy,
- 13:22Speaker 2: Oh my god, you'd be going to war with her.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Hey.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Look, that's just a little thumbnail sketch where I was
- 13:31Speaker 2: and what we were doing as a family. And also
- 13:35Speaker 2: the information that I learned on this lie hush hush,
- 13:39Speaker 2: much mush about how Key Republicans are working in tandem
- 13:45Speaker 2: to destroy the Republican Party as we know it in
- 13:50Speaker 2: New York State, New York City and actually turn it
- 13:53Speaker 2: into a wing of the old moderate Democratic Party. Well,
- 13:58Speaker 2: you don't want to go anywhere? Are you gonna go anywhere?
- 14:02Speaker 2: All this information that I'm bringing to you, Like Paul Revere,
- 14:06Speaker 2: I'm warning you in advance, doing all the groundwork, and
- 14:10Speaker 2: now it's in your place to be. Seven ten War
- 14:15Speaker 2: our favorite radio station in the sliewa household, and yeah,
- 14:18Speaker 2: our cats love listening to it too. The Voice of
- 14:22Speaker 2: New York. The numbers eight hundred three two one zero
- 14:25Speaker 2: seven ten. That's eight hundred three to two one zero
- 14:29Speaker 2: seven ten. The Pulse of New York.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Now on the Voice of New York, Curtis Sleewall guest
- 14:37Speaker 1: host from Marximon on seven ten war.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Let's talk about it being the pulse of the tri
- 14:46Speaker 2: state area. That's where I was in the last forty
- 14:50Speaker 2: eight hours since I was talking to all of U
- 14:52Speaker 2: s ubstooting for Mark and Grey was with the orange cone. Hell,
- 14:59Speaker 2: you know, if you driving around, they got the orange cones,
- 15:02Speaker 2: and they got the orange barrels there with the reflector
- 15:07Speaker 2: tape so you could see it at night. And you
- 15:10Speaker 2: say to yourself, that's symptomatic of the problems that we
- 15:15Speaker 2: have with our infrastructure wherever you see those throughout Pennsylvania,
- 15:19Speaker 2: New Jersey, Upstate New York, wherever we went here in
- 15:23Speaker 2: New York City. And Nancy had the responsibility to drive,
- 15:28Speaker 2: believe it or not. I don't have a driver's license.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I've driven before when I was a teenager. You know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: it took to test, obviously, no problem. The written part
- 15:39Speaker 2: problem was parallel parking. I had long hair at the time.
- 15:43Speaker 2: My cousin Lenny beans me on Chino said, Hey, just
- 15:47Speaker 2: put a twenty. Just put a twenty there right right,
- 15:50Speaker 2: so that the instructor could see it. You'll pass. I
- 15:54Speaker 2: wasn't going to bribe the instructor. And he did not
- 15:57Speaker 2: like long hair. He attributed it or you must be
- 15:59Speaker 2: a hip, must be part of the anti war movement.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And every time it would get to the parallel parking stage,
- 16:06Speaker 2: I would flub it. No license, but I drove for years,
- 16:09Speaker 2: but I don't drive now. My wife asked to do
- 16:13Speaker 2: all the driving, and all she asked for all she needs,
- 16:18Speaker 2: Like for so many of you listening wherever you are,
- 16:22Speaker 2: even throughout the world as you're listening, is seven to
- 16:24Speaker 2: ten WR because I know you are. You're contacting me. Oh,
- 16:29Speaker 2: listening to it in Shanghai, that was interesting. But anyway,
- 16:34Speaker 2: my wife, she just needs a good cup of cool feet.
- 16:39Speaker 2: So yesterday, as you know, a lot of places that
- 16:41Speaker 2: closed for Christmas, the only time of the year they closed.
- 16:46Speaker 2: And we're at a Starbucks and all places Troy, New York.
- 16:50Speaker 2: It's open and not far from Russell Stage College. Great,
- 16:55Speaker 2: great college. Yeah, and were you in there like an hour?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Just get a cup corfee and like I'm not gonna complain.
- 17:06Speaker 2: My wife Nancy. She's doing all the driving, but it's
- 17:08Speaker 2: like an hour for a cup coolfee. We could have
- 17:11Speaker 2: gone to one of the gas stations and she goes,
- 17:14Speaker 2: I ain't drinking gas station coffee, No way. And we
- 17:19Speaker 2: waited an hour and Nancy got her coffeeing. Oh, it
- 17:25Speaker 2: was like a mood elevator without that coffee. Lookout, you're
- 17:29Speaker 2: like like Sybil, multiple personalities, I mean, quite ease, and
- 17:35Speaker 2: I'm sure there are a lot of people out there
- 17:36Speaker 2: the same way. But she got that cup of octane,
- 17:39Speaker 2: that coffee, and she was good to go, and we
- 17:42Speaker 2: continued on our way. But there's fear, fright and hysteria
- 17:47Speaker 2: over the coming snow, and I'm saying it's as we
- 17:52Speaker 2: talk about now the segue into Zora Mandami being sworn
- 17:56Speaker 2: in as mayor, And I know a lot of you
- 17:58Speaker 2: are moaning and groaning, and you you can't get over
- 18:01Speaker 2: the election. He won the election. Get used to it.
- 18:05Speaker 2: If he does good, the city does good, we all
- 18:08Speaker 2: do good, the state does good, America does good. But
- 18:11Speaker 2: for some of you, you want the guy to crash
- 18:14Speaker 2: and burn. I mean every step of the way. Look
- 18:16Speaker 2: that's your thing, but I'll tell you this one of
- 18:20Speaker 2: those litmus tests used to be not just in Chicago,
- 18:24Speaker 2: where my dad would take us during the holidays to
- 18:27Speaker 2: visit that side of the family, and I remember there
- 18:29Speaker 2: was a Mayor Blandict there. He didn't get the snow up,
- 18:31Speaker 2: and guess what, he lost the election in a primary
- 18:35Speaker 2: to Mayor Jane Burn simply because he couldn't get the
- 18:38Speaker 2: snow up. Had that happened in New York City, John
- 18:42Speaker 2: Lindsay Forest Hills, Oh, the mounds of snow, and he
- 18:48Speaker 2: lost the Republican line to run for reelection in sixty
- 18:51Speaker 2: nine to one on the Liberal line instead because of
- 18:53Speaker 2: the miracle Mets of sixty nine winning and him claiming
- 18:57Speaker 2: he was a lifelong Met fan, of which he couldn't
- 18:59Speaker 2: be like at that time. I only came around since
- 19:02Speaker 2: the early sixties. But typical political form, he lied and
- 19:07Speaker 2: he rode that to victory. But the point being is
- 19:09Speaker 2: with the snows. I remember Rudy Giuliani getting elected, and
- 19:15Speaker 2: I had campaigned with him when he lost first against
- 19:18Speaker 2: David Dinkins I eighty nine and then when he won
- 19:20Speaker 2: ninety three, and that first two years had more snow
- 19:26Speaker 2: than I ever saw before. In fact, it was that one,
- 19:30Speaker 2: which I think it was like h January twentieth, if
- 19:33Speaker 2: I'm gonna remembering nineteen ninety six, so like maybe the
- 19:38Speaker 2: second year of his mayoralty at thirty inches in Staten Island,
- 19:42Speaker 2: they were twenty inches here in the city. They were
- 19:44Speaker 2: using like salt everywhere. It was like eleven storms that
- 19:47Speaker 2: clobbered us in that year. Loan, I remember it, and
- 19:51Speaker 2: you say to yourself, we don't have that now, and
- 19:55Speaker 2: so you ask yourself, well, why don't we have that.
- 19:58Speaker 2: We're not talking about back into the sixties or the
- 20:03Speaker 2: seventies as I began this program, but right back to
- 20:08Speaker 2: nineteen ninety six and a series of snowstorms, and now
- 20:13Speaker 2: we don't have them anymore. And unfortunately Eric Adams is
- 20:17Speaker 2: still the mayor. Is he in any country today? Is
- 20:20Speaker 2: he in Switzerland? Is he in the Caribbean? Western Who
- 20:23Speaker 2: knows that taxpayers expense? And who cares? But the city
- 20:26Speaker 2: claims they're ready, They got all the rock salt ready,
- 20:30Speaker 2: They're already putting a little salt out into the asphalt.
- 20:33Speaker 2: And I'm saying to myself, man, that's gonna eat up
- 20:38Speaker 2: you go along that FDR drivers already a mess, right
- 20:41Speaker 2: you go south from forty second Street, the FTERR Drive.
- 20:44Speaker 2: You're going down past Houston Street a mess. It's like
- 20:48Speaker 2: lunar crater. Hell, nobody fixes it, and this will make
- 20:53Speaker 2: it that much worse. But oh my god, people got
- 20:57Speaker 2: ready to hunker down. How will we survive? What four
- 21:00Speaker 2: inches six inches maybe eight inches? Imagine when it was
- 21:04Speaker 2: regular twenty inches thirty inches. Oh, so much to reminisce about,
- 21:12Speaker 2: but so much to talk about, because it's really your
- 21:14Speaker 2: turn to be heard. That that's really what talk radio
- 21:17Speaker 2: is about. And I'm gonna give you all an opportunity
- 21:21Speaker 2: on my newfound station on what I hope will be yours.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Listen to station seven ten wor to participate. So is
- 21:30Speaker 2: you gotta be ready? You're multitasking here this morning. Eight
- 21:35Speaker 2: hundred three two one zero seven ten. That's eight hundred
- 21:40Speaker 2: three two one zero seven ten. And by the way,
- 21:43Speaker 2: if you're stun god, you know, if you dank too
- 21:46Speaker 2: much of the eggnog there was spiked, Hey, don't bother
- 21:50Speaker 2: call it because I can talk my way to the
- 21:54Speaker 2: break of dawn. As you know, I said, Boy, what
- 21:58Speaker 2: a great Christmas present to be able to do it
- 22:00Speaker 2: here on seventy ten wor to all of you in
- 22:06Speaker 2: the Tri state area beyond our number's one eight hundred
- 22:09Speaker 2: three two one zero seven ten. That's one eight hundred
- 22:12Speaker 2: three two one zero seven ten. And up next a
- 22:17Speaker 2: bunch of brothers who were handling those uh orange cones
- 22:21Speaker 2: last night told me I should be doing something else. Yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 2: everybody's an expert out there. Everybody tells me I voted
- 22:27Speaker 2: for you. How'd you vote for me in Hamilton Hill
- 22:30Speaker 2: in Schenectady. Well, well I would have voted for you
- 22:34Speaker 2: if I was in the city. You cocka down, you Pinocchio,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you're lying. I know you want to make me feel better.
- 22:41Speaker 2: But some of the brothers is he were telling me
- 22:43Speaker 2: what I should be doing with my life now. Everybody
- 22:48Speaker 2: is a program director, everybody is a soothsayer. Everybody wants
- 22:53Speaker 2: to tell me what I should be doing here. Uh
- 22:58Speaker 2: when in fact, you couldn't have been more hopelessly wrong.
- 23:03Speaker 2: What eight hundred and three to one zero seventen.
- 23:07Speaker 1: The Voice that fights for New York literally Curtis Sleewalk
- 23:12Speaker 1: guest host for Mark Simone on sevent ten.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Woor oh, you don't want to miss it. As I
- 23:22Speaker 2: was up in the Capitol Land area for the Christmas
- 23:27Speaker 2: holiday to be with Nancy and her family members. Also
- 23:29Speaker 2: is doing some side work getting information about how the
- 23:34Speaker 2: Republican leadership has thrown the party under the bus, this
- 23:39Speaker 2: time against Congresswoman at least staphonic for Kathy the Grifter Hockel,
- 23:46Speaker 2: who was in New York City meeting with key Republicans
- 23:50Speaker 2: lining them up because it's all about following the money.
- 23:55Speaker 2: It's all about follow the money. Oh, I learned a
- 23:58Speaker 2: lot at the Copper Crow right there on Broadway in Almany.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Remember as the crow flies cool and by the way,
- 24:06Speaker 2: the hawk is talking out there. So we'll talk about
- 24:09Speaker 2: this hysteria and fear and is sweeping the area because
- 24:14Speaker 2: oh my god, there might be six to eight ten
- 24:16Speaker 2: inches maybe more of snow. And I'm saying to myself, boy,
- 24:21Speaker 2: it used to be that all the time as we
- 24:24Speaker 2: would approach the new year. But let's go to the
- 24:26Speaker 2: phones right now, and it's Rob Who's calling from Montclair,
- 24:31Speaker 2: New Jersey. Your turn to be heard? He on seven
- 24:35Speaker 2: to ten, wor Rob.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Hey, Curtis. During that campaign, I heard you maligned a lot,
- 24:43Speaker 3: and I told my friends, you know, I know one
- 24:46Speaker 3: thing about this guy, and it tells me everything about him.
- 24:49Speaker 3: I teach you the school when Montclair Montclair State University,
- 24:53Speaker 3: and many many years ago, you came with. I guess
- 24:56Speaker 3: it was a WABC basketball team to play the local people.
- 25:00Speaker 3: You probably don't even remember. Well, you got there really
- 25:03Speaker 3: early and I was going to teach a class and
- 25:06Speaker 3: I recognized you, and I said, Curtis, could you speak
- 25:09Speaker 3: to my class. You came, you spoke to him, You
- 25:13Speaker 3: answered questions. You were as sweet as kind as a
- 25:17Speaker 3: person could be. And that tells me everything I need
- 25:19Speaker 3: to know about you.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Wow. And you remember, and I remember we got beat
- 25:24Speaker 2: badly the leader of the team at that point basketball
- 25:27Speaker 2: team because I was known for my sharp elbows. You
- 25:31Speaker 2: got into the paint. I was going to put a
- 25:33Speaker 2: herding on your kidneys and your ribs. Don't come into
- 25:37Speaker 2: the paint. You better be shooting from three point range.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Was Mitch Dolan, who was the general manager and Grandpoopa
- 25:47Speaker 2: of all the stations at that time over at WABC,
- 25:51Speaker 2: and that guy was a sharp shooter from the outside.
- 25:53Speaker 2: He used to call him, Hey, you know, he's like
- 25:56Speaker 2: the six man off the bench. He come in, boom
- 26:00Speaker 2: in a knock a few back. Oh, I remember those memories.
- 26:04Speaker 2: That was good, Rob, that was good. Let's go if
- 26:07Speaker 2: we can to Ellen, who's calling also from New Jersey.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Your turn to be heard here at seven to ten
- 26:14Speaker 2: wor Ellen.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Hi, Curtis. I am so thrilled to speak with you,
- 26:19Speaker 4: and so thrilled that you're back on the air. I've
- 26:22Speaker 4: listened to you for so many years with Angels in
- 26:24Speaker 4: the Morning and Curtis and Coobe, and then of course
- 26:28Speaker 4: I got very little sleep because I was listening to
- 26:30Speaker 4: on the weekends overnight on that other station, in additional
- 26:34Speaker 4: listening to your friend Frank overnight also. But I wanted
- 26:39Speaker 4: to ask you something about your father. It's been bothering
- 26:42Speaker 4: me for years. Do you happen to know if your
- 26:45Speaker 4: father was a member of the National Maritime Union.
- 26:48Speaker 2: YEAP for close to fifty years he was a delegate.
- 26:53Speaker 2: He would actually go to battle with the trustees and
- 26:58Speaker 2: the leader of the National Maritime Union, who was corrupt,
- 27:02Speaker 2: Joe Kerr.
- 27:04Speaker 5: I know.
- 27:04Speaker 4: And the reason I'm asking is because for years my
- 27:08Speaker 4: father had had a wholesale optical business and then he
- 27:14Speaker 4: lost it and he wound up working for the National
- 27:17Speaker 4: Maritime Union in that building where all the seamen would
- 27:20Speaker 4: comforted medical needs. And I worked there in the summers,
- 27:23Speaker 4: So chances are your father I met your father.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah. And plus back then, you'd have to shape
- 27:29Speaker 2: up for work. So I'd go with my dad and
- 27:32Speaker 2: he'd have to shape up. He was a boson at
- 27:34Speaker 2: that time, which is like the equivalent of his sergeant.
- 27:37Speaker 2: You know, he's part of the union National Maritime Union,
- 27:40Speaker 2: but really a part of management. Also you can't win
- 27:43Speaker 2: for it, and he'd have to shape up like everyone
- 27:45Speaker 2: else to catch a ship that was going out right
- 27:49Speaker 2: near Fourteenth Street where you had the National Maritime Union headquarters.
- 27:54Speaker 2: And it's that building that makes it look like it's
- 27:57Speaker 2: the side of a passenger ship with all those windows.
- 28:02Speaker 2: No longer obviously National Maritime Union. But boy, tremendous stories
- 28:06Speaker 2: that my dad would tell me when he would come home.
- 28:08Speaker 2: He'd be shipped out eight months a year, at home
- 28:11Speaker 2: four months a year, and to make ancillary income, he'd
- 28:16Speaker 2: go out there because he was a master craftsman, and
- 28:20Speaker 2: he worked for my cousin Joey g to teach from
- 28:22Speaker 2: Howard beat you at a construction firm in order so
- 28:26Speaker 2: that me my older sister a leader, my younger sister
- 28:29Speaker 2: Maria to get all the things that we wanted or
- 28:33Speaker 2: didn't want, like my mother forcing me to play the
- 28:36Speaker 2: piano for four years. I hated that every second of
- 28:39Speaker 2: the day that I played. And then when it was
- 28:42Speaker 2: time for my recital at a nearby synagogue in Knarsi,
- 28:46Speaker 2: I was playing Rockmaninoff on the stage. My younger sister,
- 28:50Speaker 2: Maria had played, made every mistake in the world, got
- 28:53Speaker 2: a standing ovation, didn't bother her. My oldest sister, a
- 28:57Speaker 2: very accomplished pianist, and I played rockmano Off. Way through
- 29:00Speaker 2: is He, I forgot where I was. I walked away
- 29:04Speaker 2: from the piano and never came back to play the
- 29:06Speaker 2: piano again. I hated that my friends would be outside. Hey,
- 29:12Speaker 2: come on, Curtis, I gotta practice my piano. Really, are
- 29:18Speaker 2: you a mama Luke? Look as my mom and dad said,
- 29:23Speaker 2: as long as we pay the bills here and you're
- 29:25Speaker 2: living under our roof in our house, you'll follow our rules.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Or hey, you're welcome to hit the highway out there.
- 29:32Speaker 2: See how difficult life is. Oh, what what great role
- 29:37Speaker 2: models they were. They're no longer with us anyway. Let's
- 29:41Speaker 2: go to Glenn, who was calling from New Jersey, your
- 29:44Speaker 2: turn to be heard here on seven ten wo R Glene, goodbody.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Curtis over at the other station there where Greg Kelly
- 29:54Speaker 5: has been disparaging you incredible for the first hour of
- 30:00Speaker 5: his show. He spoke nothing about anything but Curtis and
- 30:07Speaker 5: Curtis this, Curtis that, and so forth. He's a loser.
- 30:11Speaker 5: And I had to call in and tell and tell
- 30:15Speaker 5: Greg that he and w R O you a debt
- 30:21Speaker 5: of gratitude for giving one hour of free publicity because
- 30:26Speaker 5: I mentioned to him two quotes. T. T. Bonham said, famously,
- 30:32Speaker 5: any publicity is good publicity, and Oscar Wilde said, the
- 30:38Speaker 5: only thing in the world worse than being talked about
- 30:41Speaker 5: is not being talked about.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I gotta tell you, Glenn, so you know Greg Kelly
- 30:47Speaker 2: never comes prepared for a show. That's why you would
- 30:49Speaker 2: listen to Mark Simon. That would be his show prep.
- 30:52Speaker 2: You would actually admit that I'm listening to Mark and
- 30:54Speaker 2: then taking notes. He has no Mark to listen to.
- 30:57Speaker 2: He hates listening to me and gives him something to
- 31:00Speaker 2: talk about because he'd always run out of steam. That's
- 31:04Speaker 2: why they had me in the bullpen. You better jump
- 31:06Speaker 2: in there with Greg he's rowing he's running out of
- 31:09Speaker 2: things to talk about because he didn't do his show prep.
- 31:14Speaker 2: You just don't come on the air and think think
- 31:17Speaker 2: you're gonna be able to do talk radio. Oh no, oh, Bob.
- 31:19Speaker 2: By the way, a suggestion for me by a work
- 31:22Speaker 2: coup at the MTA coming up, You're never gonna oh yes,
- 31:26Speaker 2: you might actually conceive it. This you don't want to
- 31:28Speaker 2: go anywhere, And I'll tell you the true nitty gritty
- 31:32Speaker 2: secret of what's going on behind the scenes as the
- 31:35Speaker 2: Republican leadership in New York State now, as they did
- 31:38Speaker 2: in New York City, are selling out to moderate Democrats,
- 31:43Speaker 2: and they did it against elist Dephonic Now More.
- 31:47Speaker 1: With New York's iconic straight shooter Curtis Leewah guest hosting
- 31:53Speaker 1: from Mark Simone on seven ten.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Wah No, I came out of the subway this morning.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I always do with the MTA money taking agency. Some
- 32:03Speaker 2: workers there, the brothers, and they were telling me everybody
- 32:07Speaker 2: is giving me advice. Yo, man, you should be on
- 32:09Speaker 2: Hot ninety seven. More gangs, more drugs, more drivies. No no, no,
- 32:13Speaker 2: no no. Apparently they had a show that got wiped
- 32:16Speaker 2: out Ebro in the morning. I only knew the one
- 32:19Speaker 2: guy there, Peter Rosenberg. But hey, that's tough times. I
- 32:24Speaker 2: get that, but I ain't. I'm not doing hip hop radio.
- 32:27Speaker 2: And so while we heard you on Charlemagne the God
- 32:30Speaker 2: the Breakfast Glove, Yeah, during the campaign, and I could
- 32:33Speaker 2: kick it with people about hip hop in the streets,
- 32:36Speaker 2: no doubt about it. By the way, I see iHeart
- 32:40Speaker 2: products Charlemagne that got signed up rebooted for like Aaron
- 32:44Speaker 2: Judge money. Hey, he deserves. He told the great story
- 32:48Speaker 2: how his wife took him to his first internship. He
- 32:53Speaker 2: didn't have a car, he didn't have a nickel dimond
- 32:55Speaker 2: penny to his name at a radio station and had
- 32:58Speaker 2: to drive him to him from the job. Well, the
- 33:01Speaker 2: rest is history. And then the brothers were saying, you
- 33:05Speaker 2: saw Nicki MINAJATOI yeah, man, she was attacking the Muslims
- 33:09Speaker 2: for killing Christians in Nigeria. And the President heard it
- 33:14Speaker 2: and he responded, I say, you don't really think that.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Trump responded to Nicki Minajatin, Well, we come back right
- 33:22Speaker 2: here on your new place to be seven ten wor
