- 0:08Speaker 1: What's happened?
- 0:09Speaker 2: Everybody, Welcome into this edition of the Checko Daily. I
- 0:13am your host, Andrew Dicheco, And if you can hear
- 0:16the excitement in my voice, it is because tomorrow, Tuesday,
- 0:20will be the first day of fully padded practices at
- 0:24Eagles training camp. It is by far my favorite day
- 0:28on the NFL calendar, and you're really able to evaluate more.
- 0:31You're able to gauge more in terms of where certain
- 0:34players lie in the pecking order, who is going to
- 0:37be able to rise above and ratchet it up a notch.
- 0:40And this is really where the intensity ratchets up a notch.
- 0:44Tomorrow is going to be a absolute scorcher out there, and
- 0:48that's where players tend to separate themselves. Obviously when the
- 0:52pads come on, I personally enjoy it because there's a
- 0:56noticeable rise and intensity and you want to see who's
- 1:00able to.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Get after it because it's it's very challenging.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Training camp is already a grind, but when you factor
- 1:07in the pads and the sweltering temperatures out there, that's
- 1:10really where you're able to kind of gauge a little
- 1:13bit more. So let's take a step back for a
- 1:17moment and observe, or at least let me articulate what
- 1:21it is that I'm looking for tomorrow. Because it's one
- 1:25thing to say this player is out performing this one,
- 1:29this player has shined in this particular role or in
- 1:32this instance, or in this you know, in this team drill.
- 1:36But it's so hard to evaluate without the pads because
- 1:40and that's always been my disclaimer whenever I talk about
- 1:43training camp, I say, we'll have to wait until the
- 1:45pads come on. That's where you're able to tell, for example,
- 1:49where tight ends are in terms off they're blocking. It's
- 1:52one thing to be able to run around in shorts
- 1:56and shells and catch everything that's thrown your way, but
- 2:00how are you going to acquit yourself in the running
- 2:02game as an inline blocker. We already know that Dallas
- 2:06Goddard is the most well rounded tight end in terms
- 2:09of blocking, receiving all of that. But who's next on
- 2:13that list? In my opinion, it's EJ. Jenkins, And I think,
- 2:16for example, someone like EJ. Jenkins at six foot six,
- 2:18two hundred and sixty pounds. Padded practices are tailor made
- 2:23for someone of that skill set where you can really
- 2:25gauge his blocking prowess, and I think that that that
- 2:31kind of separates himself from other players.
- 2:33Speaker 1: That's just for an example. The other thing lineman.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Today was one on ones and that's my favorite drill
- 2:42throughout the summer. But it makes it so much more
- 2:45intriguing when you have pads on and you're able to
- 2:48get your hands on there, and the physicality and all
- 2:51of these different intricacies play into who wins these drills,
- 2:55and I think you have a much better picture and
- 2:58a better assessment as to who's really starting to rise.
- 3:03So offensive line, I'm looking at how is Tyler Steen
- 3:07going to fair going against Moro Jomo? For example, Morojomo
- 3:11has thrived throughout the first four practices providing pressure up
- 3:16the middle, but when the pads come on, that's where
- 3:18you're able to kind of engage in more physicality. And
- 3:21for Stein this is a huge step for him. This
- 3:24is a huge practice upcoming because I think that he
- 3:28can be more physical and you're able to see was
- 3:32Jomo really being able to give those offensive lineman fits
- 3:35because they weren't able to do much in terms of
- 3:37physicality in terms of leaning into a defender, or is
- 3:39Morojomo just a player who tends to wreak havoc. I'll
- 3:43also be looking at, you know, the defensive line. How
- 3:47is someone like a Ty Robinson who I didn't think
- 3:50had a particularly great practice on day four.
- 3:54Speaker 1: That's where someone like him.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Who maybe was sort of having a nondescript few days.
- 4:00When you put the pads on and you're able to
- 4:03get your leverage and hand usage and all that, and
- 4:05maybe you can factor into the backfield and put some
- 4:07pressure on lineman. And sometimes that provides some unique challenges
- 4:12for interior linemen such as that Jordan mylatt, Elaine Johnson,
- 4:17jayalox Hunt.
- 4:18Speaker 1: There's been a lot of talk.
- 4:19Speaker 2: About jay loox Hunt, and you know, Jordan Malatta has
- 4:22given him a lot of praise. But you'll also have
- 4:26to see what jay oax Hunt's able to do when
- 4:28Jordan Mylotta is able to engage in more physical one
- 4:31on one battles when the pads come on. And sometimes
- 4:35that's where you don't hear from certain players who were
- 4:38flashing the first few days of practice. So I'll be
- 4:41particularly looking at the tight ends because there has been yet,
- 4:45there has been no one who has really stepped up
- 4:48and separated themselves in terms of the top two players.
- 4:52Obviously you have Dallas Goddard, you have Grant kal Katara.
- 4:54Kylon Granson has made some nice catches. We think he
- 4:57can block, but is he a better blocker than some
- 5:00like an E. J. Jenkins, for example, Harrison Bryant. He
- 5:03doesn't give you much as a blocker. How physical, how
- 5:05willing is he to stick in there and and you know,
- 5:08stick his nose in there and play a physical brand
- 5:10of football. These are certain elements that are going to
- 5:13go a long way in determining where these players factor
- 5:16into the roster consideration. How about a corner like a
- 5:20ki Lee Ringo and a Dori Jackson. Those are two
- 5:23players who are sort of neck and neck right now.
- 5:25You can make the argument that Dori Jackson is sort
- 5:29of taking the lead there as he's been working with
- 5:32the first team to start practice for the third consecutive day.
- 5:36But when you have to get your hands on a
- 5:38receiver like an AJ Brown and you know you're sort
- 5:41of you know, colliding, you know, colliding with the pads
- 5:44and things like that. A Dorri Jackson's a smaller player
- 5:46than Kielee Ringo. Pads would tend to skew in the
- 5:50favor of someone like Ringo, who is a bigger body defender.
- 5:53Speaker 1: He is physical, he is handsy.
- 5:55Speaker 2: This is where you're able to kind of get a
- 5:58better sense of who who's really winning this battle. And
- 6:02that's why you never want to make too much over
- 6:04the first few days of that acclamation period because it's
- 6:07not always a true gauge of where certain players are. Now,
- 6:15my expectation tomorrow it's going to be really hot. I
- 6:18don't know how long they're gonna go, but today very
- 6:21much felt like a ramp up where you had shorts
- 6:24and shells.
- 6:24Speaker 1: It was hot out.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Tomorrow they're going to hit the ground running and that's
- 6:28where you see this and I go back to this,
- 6:31the intensity ratches up. It's my favorite day because this
- 6:34is where players tend to separate. There is a palpable
- 6:37sense of urgency and physicality that accompanies the pads coming
- 6:42on and again, this is where players tend to separate.
- 6:45This is where you're able to get a better read
- 6:47on some of these position battles. So I don't know
- 6:50quite how long they're going to go, but my expectation
- 6:54is is that you're going to see the pads popping,
- 6:57and sometimes when the weather gets like this and the
- 7:01pads come on and there's jobs on the line, this
- 7:03is where you start to see some scrappiness, some feisty play,
- 7:07some physicality, some training camp scuffles. Although there haven't been much,
- 7:12haven't been many under Nick Sirianni, but I cannot wait.
- 7:15You can hear the excitement in my voice. Tomorrow, first
- 7:19day at pads at Eagles training Camp. I will have
- 7:21all of the updates as I always do on Inside
- 7:24the Birds dot com, and I will bring you a
- 7:26fresh edition of the Czech O Daily.
- 7:28Speaker 1: That'll do it for me for now. Talk to everybody
- 7:31tomorrow
