- 1:21Speaker 1: some major thank you as we want to thank our
- 1:23Speaker 1: locomotives Jess and Tony for contributing fifty dollars each to
- 1:28Speaker 1: our VENMO as a reminder. As you know, Look At
- 1:31Speaker 1: Thought a Radio is a passion project. We don't get
- 1:33Speaker 1: paid to record, um the audio is free, so it's
- 1:37Speaker 1: really important that you know the community does support the
- 1:41Speaker 1: work and if you feel so inclined, if you would
- 1:44Speaker 1: like to support the project, you can always venmo us
- 1:47Speaker 1: at look at a Dash Radio. Yeah, and you know,

- 2:28Speaker 1: We appreciate you. We are also growing as a podcast
- 2:32Speaker 1: and it's super, super super exciting. We have a new
- 2:35Speaker 1: member of our team. Yes, we do so, as you know,
- 2:39Speaker 1: we actually put out a call and we received a
- 2:42Speaker 1: ton of applications for our digital media internship. And this
- 2:46Speaker 1: is our very first time hiring somebody on to work
- 2:50Speaker 1: on our team. UM, somebody that's outside of our immediate circle.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So we're super excited. UM. It was such a hard decision,
- 2:57Speaker 1: So first of all, thank you to every single one
- 3:00Speaker 1: of you that applied, Like know that we read your
- 3:04Speaker 1: resumes and we looked at all of your artwork and
- 3:06Speaker 1: all of your content with like so much love. UM,
- 3:10Speaker 1: And it was a really difficult decision, but we did
- 3:11Speaker 1: hire on our new intern. Her name is Alanis Alvarez
- 3:17Speaker 1: and um, she's from New York. She was born and
- 3:19Speaker 1: raised in South Florida, UM, going between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
- 3:24Speaker 1: She was raised by two moms. UM, but staying in
- 3:27Speaker 1: touch with her biological family was like a modern family
- 3:30Speaker 1: episode that actually made you laugh and not crash. This
- 3:33Speaker 1: is according to her. She moved to New York for University,
- 3:37Speaker 1: where she studies political science and argues with a lot
- 3:40Speaker 1: of bros. We know what that's like that she also
- 3:45Speaker 1: teaches reproductive health to her local Latino community for the
- 3:48Speaker 1: past four years and love us every second of it.
- 3:51Speaker 1: She spent almost most of her time painting and is
- 3:54Speaker 1: likely to have coffee in her hand at any given time.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Family turned twenty two last November and she spent it
- 4:00Speaker 1: watching old rum comps and Sipo Chatta with her two
- 4:03Speaker 1: best buds. Sounds like the type of girl. Yeah, so
- 4:06Speaker 1: welcome aboard, Welcome Aboard. You can follow her on i
- 4:09Speaker 1: G and Twitter. Her handle is Alanie makes Art and UM,
- 4:13Speaker 1: Alaniz is going to be really doing a lot of
- 4:15Speaker 1: our visuals for the Instagram. So um, as you see
- 4:18Speaker 1: our Instagram grow and change and develop, we we can
- 4:21Speaker 1: thank Alanis for that. We also want to thank l
- 4:25Speaker 1: A Magazine, Thank you very much and Pamela Avila for
- 4:29Speaker 1: including look a Look at about our Radio for including
- 4:32Speaker 1: us in two different l A mag features in two
- 4:36Speaker 1: different list sicals, So thank you so much for having us. Yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 1: it was so incredible to enden with some really great
- 4:43Speaker 1: press coverage. UM. Two of the articles came out like
- 4:46Speaker 1: the last week of December, which was incredible, and the
- 4:49Speaker 1: first one was that Angelinos were rooting for in twenty nineteen,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and then one feature about Latinox podcast to subscribe to
- 4:56Speaker 1: that are based in l A and a lot of
- 4:58Speaker 1: our friends were on it, which was super super cool. Yeah. Um,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and we're featured in l ME three times. Yeah, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: bragging rights. I think I think like we can boast
- 5:07Speaker 1: a little bit, Yeah, a little bit. Yeah, And we
- 5:10Speaker 1: were also on for We were also Fords also Forks.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Also more announcements in that world coming right right. So,
- 5:17Speaker 1: also just a reminder, you know, we're going to plug it.
- 5:19Speaker 1: It is what it is. If you're a writer really
- 5:21Speaker 1: is interested in talking to us, please send us an
- 5:24Speaker 1: email at locals on our Radio at gmail dot com. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I hit us up. Contact us. Email is the best
- 5:28Speaker 1: way to do it. Yes, thank you, thank you. So. Um.
- 5:31Speaker 1: One final announcement before we get into our gup beat
- 5:34Speaker 1: the Low, we are partnering with the Los Angeles Public
- 5:37Speaker 1: Library this year for their l A Maide series. We
- 5:42Speaker 1: will be bringing our Latin X tech podcasting one o
- 5:45Speaker 1: one workshops to the community. We're gonna be hosting free
- 5:49Speaker 1: podcasting one on one workshops at a ton like a
- 5:52Speaker 1: whole mess of different l A Public Library branches throughout
- 5:54Speaker 1: the city. Yeah, we're super excited. We're literally going to
- 5:57Speaker 1: be all over l A County. Um, facilitating these workshops
- 6:02Speaker 1: specifically for you if I mean, they're intended for all,
- 6:04Speaker 1: but we're really really excited to be facilitating. Uh, we're
- 6:09Speaker 1: with l A public library, Like we're l A girls
- 6:13Speaker 1: would like I grew up at the library, Like my
- 6:15Speaker 1: mom would take me there after school or somebody would
- 6:17Speaker 1: take me there after school. It was amazing. Yeah, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: I'm now I'm remembering. Uh, when I was in elementary school,
- 6:25Speaker 1: my mom started working at my elementary school, and she
- 6:27Speaker 1: was the librarian when she first started working there. So
- 6:30Speaker 1: every time I would get in trouble for like giving
- 6:32Speaker 1: my little boyfriend hickis or whatever. Like in the eighth grade,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I had this boyfriend named Levi, who I recently started
- 6:37Speaker 1: following again on Instagram anyway, so he was my first
- 6:40Speaker 1: little boyfriend named Levi. And um, whenever we would have
- 6:43Speaker 1: like school carnivals and stuff like you know, we would
- 6:46Speaker 1: be making out behind the church or whatever. But my
- 6:48Speaker 1: mother worked at the frigging school. So like I was
- 6:50Speaker 1: constantly getting in trouble and my mom was like Zoe,
- 6:55Speaker 1: like you can't do this, this is not doable. So anyways,
- 6:58Speaker 1: we love the library for all over things. Yes, I
- 7:02Speaker 1: remember when I was in high school, I used to
- 7:03Speaker 1: make out with a girl. Yes, because I went to
- 7:07Speaker 1: all girls school. It was like my intro to like
- 7:10Speaker 1: little queeries. That was a baby queer. We would make
- 7:12Speaker 1: up behind the libraries. So as you can see, libraries, librarians,
- 7:15Speaker 1: they've just had a really important place in our lives.
- 7:18Speaker 1: And that's why we can't wait for this. L A
- 7:20Speaker 1: made series so exciting and also getting recognized as like
- 7:23Speaker 1: l A bitches. Love it. It's amazing, Love it one
- 7:26Speaker 1: time for the l A bitch anyways, So we're gonna
- 7:30Speaker 1: be sharing those dates with you and those library branches
- 7:33Speaker 1: um in the future. We are We're gonna be you know.
- 7:36Speaker 1: We record here in boil Heights at EsPAS eighteen thirty
- 7:39Speaker 1: nine at Radio Spaso. We love Radio Spasio, love boil Heights,
- 7:42Speaker 1: and we will be hosting one of these podcasting workshops
- 7:45Speaker 1: at the Benjamin Franklin Library. So hopefully that's one way
- 7:48Speaker 1: that we can kind of give back to boil Heights
- 7:50Speaker 1: because h has given so much to us. We appreciate it, agreed,
- 7:54Speaker 1: So let's get into it. Let's get and chalk off
- 7:57Speaker 1: beats the law Lada blah. So in case you haven't
- 8:03Speaker 1: noticed yet. We want to talk about our actual photo
- 8:07Speaker 1: shoot that we have behind it, the flyer, why it
- 8:10Speaker 1: looks the way it does, like basically our theme. So
- 8:14Speaker 1: we want to talk about yeah, the yes, yeah. So um.
- 8:20Speaker 1: We on Friday for the launch of season three, we
- 8:23Speaker 1: posted a flyer and it's we're calling our season three
- 8:26Speaker 1: the theme, the energy, the mood, the vibe is right.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And so initially when we were thinking about our photo shoots,
- 8:34Speaker 1: we like to think about things conceptually, like what's the theme,
- 8:37Speaker 1: what are we going for? Right, So we were just
- 8:40Speaker 1: kind of like messing around on Pinterest and we started
- 8:42Speaker 1: looking at all these beautiful, like vintage like golden era
- 8:46Speaker 1: of Mexican cinema film posters, a lot of Maria Felix,
- 8:51Speaker 1: Dolores del Rio, and we started noticing a trend how
- 8:55Speaker 1: a lot of the posters had these really interesting sort
- 8:58Speaker 1: of like labels for women as being dangerous, as being
- 9:02Speaker 1: so for example, these are some of them, the vintage
- 9:06Speaker 1: film posters that we saw that kind of let us
- 9:08Speaker 1: down this path, right, one of them being love It.
- 9:13Speaker 1: There's one called Secret Vampiro Espars in Fearless. So they're
- 9:27Speaker 1: just we saw this theme like, oh, my God, Like
- 9:29Speaker 1: there's this obsession with like the dangerous woman, the evil woman,
- 9:34Speaker 1: the she devil like leading men astray or you know,
- 9:37Speaker 1: like entrapping them somehow making men be a moral or
- 9:41Speaker 1: something like that. And all these women are gorgeous and
- 9:43Speaker 1: they're like very essential and provocative in their photos or
- 9:47Speaker 1: they're drawing and they're in their devilish like seduction minister,
- 9:51Speaker 1: and you know we're all about that, Like I want
- 9:53Speaker 1: to morally corrupt every man on the planet blame me.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I want all the credit. Let's go sense. So we
- 10:00Speaker 1: really are like you know, because we do counter narrative
- 10:03Speaker 1: and look up pistemologies. For us, look up pistemologies is
- 10:07Speaker 1: all about counter narrative and taking these sorts of tropes
- 10:11Speaker 1: and digging deeper and looking at once beneath it. What
- 10:14Speaker 1: is the what is the nervousness about women being sexual? Right?
- 10:18Speaker 1: How can we flip these narratives on their head and
- 10:21Speaker 1: actually think about it? Well, what is this like from
- 10:24Speaker 1: the woman's perspective? Right? What does it mean to be
- 10:28Speaker 1: orta or a vampida? Even? Right? Like? What am I?
- 10:32Speaker 1: What am I taking from you? What do you believe
- 10:35Speaker 1: that I'm taking from you? Or that you're not getting right.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Why am I so bad for you or to you? Right?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Because that maybe I'm saying no absolutely, or maybe because
- 10:45Speaker 1: I'm taking all of your money because I deserve it
- 10:49Speaker 1: and it should be mine, I'll be That's that's cool.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I could live with that. I can own that. So,
- 10:54Speaker 1: you know, we want to explore the idea of the
- 10:56Speaker 1: dangerous woman, the dangerous fem and they're sort of an
- 11:00Speaker 1: escapism to to kind of embracing that that labeling. So
- 11:04Speaker 1: we're we'res And our tagline for this season from Revenge
- 11:10Speaker 1: never sounded so sweet, right, And I think the energy
- 11:13Speaker 1: behind that is um. So much of what we do
- 11:16Speaker 1: on Look At Radio on the podcast is that it's
- 11:19Speaker 1: a knowledge share, right. It's a way for us to
- 11:21Speaker 1: share resources, and that is one way for you to
- 11:24Speaker 1: stay safe in any part of your life, right, I
- 11:27Speaker 1: fear in an abusive relationship, if you're living in a
- 11:30Speaker 1: toxic home, having these resources can actually save your life. Right.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So knowing how to protect yourself right from defense, Knowing
- 11:38Speaker 1: how to save money right is also a way to
- 11:40Speaker 1: protect yourself. Knowing how to speak up right and actually
- 11:44Speaker 1: speak your mind. These are are things that have not
- 11:46Speaker 1: been afforded or taught to Latinas, especially growing up in
- 11:50Speaker 1: very Catholic hombs. I know, not all Latinas are Catholic,
- 11:53Speaker 1: but a lot of us are. UM. So that is
- 11:56Speaker 1: the mood, and that is a theme behind from revenge right.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Even live in your best life is revenge if it
- 12:02Speaker 1: can be revenge on your haters, revenge on your abuser,
- 12:06Speaker 1: you know, right. So UM. You know, we talk a
- 12:09Speaker 1: lot about survivor issues, especially in seventeen so much as
- 12:14Speaker 1: far as survivor disclosures, the me Too movement, the Time's
- 12:18Speaker 1: Up movement, We've talked a lot about that, UM, but
- 12:21Speaker 1: we've also talked about fem revenge right and fem revenge uh.
- 12:25Speaker 1: In previous cup etles, we've talked about like Rihanna and
- 12:27Speaker 1: Rihanna's music videos where she murders men, right, and she
- 12:32Speaker 1: murders her rapist, right, she murders men that have wronged her.
- 12:34Speaker 1: She's exacting revenge. So fem revenge never sounded so sweet.
- 12:38Speaker 1: It's almost a type of escapism, right, This idea that
- 12:41Speaker 1: we can imagine a world where we can actually fight back,
- 12:44Speaker 1: where we can defend ourselves, we can exact revenge on
- 12:47Speaker 1: the powers of the patriarchy rape culture much. He's more like,
- 12:51Speaker 1: if we look at these golden era of Mexican cinema
- 12:54Speaker 1: posters and we look at La, what was so perverse
- 12:58Speaker 1: about her? Right? Or was she us speaking back against
- 13:01Speaker 1: some bullshit? You know? So anyways, so that's the theme.
- 13:06Speaker 1: That's what we're gonna be talking about. We're gonna talk
- 13:09Speaker 1: more about this theme about Labiabla after our song break,
- 13:13Speaker 1: but before we get into our song break, we're gonna
- 13:15Speaker 1: bring back a fund segment that we've really only done
- 13:18Speaker 1: one time, done a handful of times, have we yes, Okay,
- 13:23Speaker 1: we have, I'm misremembering. Do you want to introduce the segment? Yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: So this is a kind of like sporadic segment that
- 13:29Speaker 1: we have and it's called Weird Things White Women Did
- 13:32Speaker 1: this Week. So we got one, luckily right before we
- 13:34Speaker 1: started recording, literally right before so as you know, we
- 13:38Speaker 1: recorded ball Hides at nine And we have noticed in
- 13:42Speaker 1: the past few months year maybe um, that on Saturdays
- 13:47Speaker 1: there are barrio tours, a lot a lot of barrio
- 13:50Speaker 1: tours literally though their tours of white people that will
- 13:53Speaker 1: walk around boil hides and get a tour of God
- 13:57Speaker 1: knows what they're saying. But that's what's happening. And they're
- 14:00Speaker 1: taking photos and they're maybe buying stuff. They're a la monaca,
- 14:04Speaker 1: they're getting they're covered. Yeah yeah, yeah that was last
- 14:10Speaker 1: sweet bread. So today today I was walking to my
- 14:14Speaker 1: car and then there was a group of white people,
- 14:17Speaker 1: like super white, like really white, and so I noticed
- 14:20Speaker 1: them right away. They stood out, and they stand out,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know, and we know exactly why they're here the
- 14:25Speaker 1: second I see you know, you see them. So I
- 14:28Speaker 1: see them, and I was like, deal, So I look
- 14:29Speaker 1: at this over here, and I'm walking to my car,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and this white lady is taking pictures of the scenery.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And I'm part of the sceneries. I mean, this white
- 14:37Speaker 1: woman's pictures from her barrio touring boils. When they walked
- 14:41Speaker 1: by me, I gave them the fuse. I'm part of
- 14:43Speaker 1: the flora and the fauna. Now, so this has been
- 14:47Speaker 1: weird things white women did this week? Oh no, I
- 14:49Speaker 1: had one more. Always ahead, I always jump ahead. I'm
- 14:53Speaker 1: just so excited about everything. Tell them what happened recently. Okay,
- 14:57Speaker 1: So recently, I was speaking to a white woman and
- 15:00Speaker 1: and she was telling me about how hard her day
- 15:03Speaker 1: was she's like, oh, you know, like it's a really
- 15:05Speaker 1: stressful day today. And she literally said to me, she
- 15:07Speaker 1: was like, my help is out. My help is like
- 15:10Speaker 1: can't work today, so I have to do all these
- 15:13Speaker 1: things by myself, essentially picking up her kids from school
- 15:16Speaker 1: and like feeding them. The help was her quote, help
- 15:20Speaker 1: was busy. She's like, my help is out today because
- 15:22Speaker 1: she's getting a colonoscopy and like she said it to
- 15:25Speaker 1: me like that, and I'm like, bitch and she goes
- 15:27Speaker 1: and her daughters can't even come and help me. So
- 15:30Speaker 1: but the things that she had to do that we're
- 15:32Speaker 1: so exhausting. We're picking up her kids from school and
- 15:34Speaker 1: feeding them, and I'm like, witch, are you kidding me?
- 15:37Speaker 1: I was more upset that she literally referred to this
- 15:39Speaker 1: woman as help. She's like, my help, my help. So anyways,
- 15:42Speaker 1: this now, this has been a conclusion. This has been
- 15:45Speaker 1: weird things white women did this week. Thank you for listening,
- 15:48Speaker 1: Thank you for listening. So real quick look on what
- 15:50Speaker 1: is We're taking a moment to shout out one of
- 15:52Speaker 1: our new sponsors, Therapy for Latin x Molla. Can you
- 15:56Speaker 1: tell our look on what is a little bit about
- 15:58Speaker 1: Therapy for Latin X. Absolutely, we're so excited to be

- 16:43Speaker 1: out Therapy for latin x dot com. And we are
- 16:47Speaker 1: going back to our gardener, back to our back to
- 16:51Speaker 1: our regularly scheduled program regularly So we're gonna go into
- 16:55Speaker 1: our song break now and gather ourselves. And we're gonna
- 16:58Speaker 1: gather ourselves so or castera belly Rosa Rara and and
- 17:06Speaker 1: and and and and and and and and and and
- 17:12Speaker 1: and and and and and and and and and and
- 17:18Speaker 1: and Delly Rack and and and thelly ro and and
- 17:27Speaker 1: and Elly ra and and and and um from from
- 17:34Speaker 1: from from from from from from from of it and
- 17:44Speaker 1: little ship and we are back. We love a South
- 17:49Speaker 1: American queen. Yes, so that was Paloma Mommy new artists
- 17:55Speaker 1: for me? Yes, same here. And I love love love
- 17:58Speaker 1: like women Latinas that are doing like music urbana or
- 18:04Speaker 1: like pop in Spanish, because so much is dominated in
- 18:09Speaker 1: any language is dominated by men. So I love when
- 18:12Speaker 1: it's like new and young and like they're like breaking
- 18:15Speaker 1: into the scene. It's always really exciting for me to
- 18:18Speaker 1: see that, especially because I have a lot of the music.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I listened to it in Spanish right, absolutely, absolutely the
- 18:24Speaker 1: you know how I've been listening to a lot recently. Well.
- 18:27Speaker 1: The only CD that I carry in my car is
- 18:29Speaker 1: um of course, just because when you I want to
- 18:32Speaker 1: be angry and and sing about you and us. For
- 18:37Speaker 1: me it's baa. But I need some new fresh voices
- 18:41Speaker 1: in my repertoire. One time, Mom, I was home and
- 18:43Speaker 1: I don't know if we were going to record what
- 18:45Speaker 1: I texted Mala and I was like, my mom is playing,
- 18:47Speaker 1: which tells you what kind of mood. Yeah, and what
- 18:50Speaker 1: did my father DOA has been seeing about men being
- 18:54Speaker 1: trashed for many years, many many years. So um, coming
- 18:59Speaker 1: back into our theme, la bia blah, right, this is basically,
- 19:03Speaker 1: like we said, this conversation is an offshoot of like
- 19:06Speaker 1: look epistemologies, right, So we wanted to bring up um
- 19:10Speaker 1: sort of a song an example of that we can
- 19:15Speaker 1: unpack and find the counter narrative here. Well, I've noticed,
- 19:19Speaker 1: like I had, like I already said that I listened
- 19:21Speaker 1: to a lot of like nine point three, like Mega Latino,
- 19:24Speaker 1: like musica contemporary music that's in Spanish, and there's a
- 19:28Speaker 1: lot of like I guess like Neil or like pop.
- 19:33Speaker 1: There's just I don't even know, Like I'm not very
- 19:35Speaker 1: like genre specific, Like I don't really know what to
- 19:38Speaker 1: call it. But I've noticed that a lot of these
- 19:40Speaker 1: songs that are playing on the radio have this trope
- 19:43Speaker 1: of ladiya b la. And we're talking about these women,
- 19:46Speaker 1: but what's so like diabolic about them is that they
- 19:51Speaker 1: are very sexual, right, and that they're very confident, and
- 19:54Speaker 1: they're very comfortable, and they dress a certain way and
- 19:56Speaker 1: they like to have sex, right, and like maybe they're
- 20:00Speaker 1: hooking up with these men for the enjoyment and pleasure
- 20:03Speaker 1: of having sex, right, not necessarily that they are in
- 20:05Speaker 1: love or want to be in a relationship, right and
- 20:07Speaker 1: all of a sudden, that's like diabolical, right right, right, right,
- 20:11Speaker 1: right right right. That has been my general observation. And
- 20:14Speaker 1: then Mama pointed out, like we'll remember back in the day,
- 20:17Speaker 1: like Donald mar has that song and also has like
- 20:21Speaker 1: a DV like case with his former partner. Yeah, actually
- 20:27Speaker 1: like l A p. D came out he was living
- 20:29Speaker 1: in Silver Lake and Donald Marr was living in silver Yes, yes,
- 20:33Speaker 1: this was like a few years ago when this with
- 20:35Speaker 1: this case, but he has an open DV case. So
- 20:37Speaker 1: it's like these women la and their songs right and
- 20:41Speaker 1: are like and not not to say that like artists
- 20:45Speaker 1: are like very misogynistic. All men are misogynistic across genres,
- 20:49Speaker 1: across the board, you know what I mean. I don't
- 20:51Speaker 1: want to I don't want to talk about it in
- 20:52Speaker 1: that way where it sounds like, oh, yeah, is like
- 20:55Speaker 1: very misogynistic and harmful. No, all of it is archy
- 20:59Speaker 1: is it's it's across, it's across genres. I mean, I
- 21:01Speaker 1: think there's a lot of I can't give you any
- 21:04Speaker 1: song titles, right, now off the top of my head,
- 21:06Speaker 1: but I feel like there's a lot of country music
- 21:09Speaker 1: talking about these like evil wayward women. Oh my god,
- 21:12Speaker 1: there's so much mariachi music where he's sucking boo hoo
- 21:15Speaker 1: hoo about being wronged by some women. And I'm always
- 21:20Speaker 1: the question, always like what did what did you do?
- 21:23Speaker 1: Like what did you actually do? What did you do? No? No, no,
- 21:26Speaker 1: And it's really amazing listening. It's the same thing when
- 21:30Speaker 1: you hear men talk about, oh, my ex is crazy,
- 21:33Speaker 1: my ex is evil, my exes. I don't believe it.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I don't believe that ship. I don't believe that ships
- 21:40Speaker 1: every single stay right anyway. So, Okay, somebody that we
- 21:46Speaker 1: want to talk about that we haven't formally talked about
- 21:49Speaker 1: on the podcast, but we should, like we need to
- 21:50Speaker 1: talk about this person is Takashi six nine. If we're
- 21:53Speaker 1: gonna go around canceling people, I want to cancel this,
- 21:56Speaker 1: like actually, Satan, like, actually you want to talk about
- 21:59Speaker 1: the tas she six nine? I like, I just have
- 22:03Speaker 1: such a visceral reaction even to just the way he looks.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And then I've seen like his little antics in the
- 22:08Speaker 1: videos and things that he posts, and he's just he
- 22:10Speaker 1: grosses me out, like to my core, I don't understand
- 22:15Speaker 1: how the way that people are very enamored by him,
- 22:19Speaker 1: and I don't get it. He looks like like a
- 22:22Speaker 1: fur ball that like a clown coughed up and I'm
- 22:24Speaker 1: not with the ships. Right. So Takashi sixth Sin has
- 22:28Speaker 1: this song, right, has this song with Annuala, who is
- 22:31Speaker 1: a believe Puerto Rican is like, um, and it's just
- 22:37Speaker 1: it's amazing to me that these men willingly collab with
- 22:41Speaker 1: a known pedophile. You know, Annual is not the only
- 22:44Speaker 1: one that has collabed with him. But specifically, this song
- 22:46Speaker 1: that we're talking about is called Vive and we're not
- 22:48Speaker 1: playing the song for you. If you want to go
- 22:50Speaker 1: stream it on your own, go ahead. Um. But in
- 22:53Speaker 1: the song, he talks about ta she specifically says like Africa,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and then he also refers to this woman as like
- 23:04Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god, okay, and then he says him,
- 23:10Speaker 1: I'm like, um, okay is actually Satan, right, and like
- 23:15Speaker 1: then he has the audacity to like all these this
- 23:17Speaker 1: one woman, whoever it is, right, this figurative woman, the audacity,
- 23:25Speaker 1: Lord Lord understand it. I do not understand it. And
- 23:30Speaker 1: It's really interesting too, because there's this cycle that happens
- 23:34Speaker 1: where you have abusive, toxic men who are recording artists
- 23:39Speaker 1: and again across genres, across the board, who are out here,
- 23:43Speaker 1: um demonstrably abusing women, being aggressive and violent towards women,
- 23:48Speaker 1: ruining women's lives. But then we support those artists, We
- 23:51Speaker 1: stream them, we pay their bills, we pay their lawyers
- 23:55Speaker 1: fees so that they can you know, go and attack
- 23:57Speaker 1: their victims, um, and that they can launch you know,
- 24:00Speaker 1: campaigns and things against their victims. So every stream you're
- 24:04Speaker 1: contributing to that, right, and then you're also contributing to
- 24:07Speaker 1: their ability to record more music. And then you have
- 24:10Speaker 1: other abusive men listening to their lyrics, feeling affirmed, singing along,
- 24:14Speaker 1: singing out loud, retweeting their lyrics. Takashi six nine is
- 24:18Speaker 1: really saying something here about how women can be okay,
- 24:22Speaker 1: But who is the fucking author, right and why? And
- 24:25Speaker 1: it's just it's just crazy to me. The cycle. This
- 24:27Speaker 1: is propaganda, This is patriarchal propaganda exact, and it must
- 24:33Speaker 1: be destroyed in in in a fire like ending, get
- 24:37Speaker 1: rid of it, yes, yeah right away. Yeah, when I
- 24:44Speaker 1: that's what really enables a lot of this, like the
- 24:47Speaker 1: mindset of these men, right, it really is enabling to them.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Like especially I think, like I know for myself, right
- 24:54Speaker 1: when I'm going through a breakup or I'm going through
- 24:56Speaker 1: something difficult where I'm set upset, Like I will play
- 24:58Speaker 1: a song and I wouldn't will affirm me, and I'm
- 25:00Speaker 1: like fuck that ship, Like yeah, be careful with me,
- 25:03Speaker 1: Like singing Cardi B. You know what I mean, all
- 25:05Speaker 1: the card all the Cardi B. Right, But it's not
- 25:08Speaker 1: violent against women, you know what I mean? Until Like
- 25:11Speaker 1: the violence against women that we see in the media
- 25:13Speaker 1: is also an indicator of the violence we see against
- 25:17Speaker 1: women on the daily. I'm interpersonal. It's very sinister too,
- 25:20Speaker 1: because if we think about abusive men making music that
- 25:25Speaker 1: is on the radio, that is on the internet, that
- 25:27Speaker 1: is streamed, if we think of it as propaganda, we
- 25:29Speaker 1: can really think about how sinister it is. Because music
- 25:32Speaker 1: is is a beautiful, wonderful thing that is created and
- 25:35Speaker 1: designed to be catchy and to be to get stuck
- 25:39Speaker 1: in your head. It is this song Vivid is incredibly catchy,
- 25:43Speaker 1: incredibly catchy. I heard it on the radio and I
- 25:45Speaker 1: was like, okay, and then I didn't even realize who
- 25:48Speaker 1: it was. And then I saw like on my card
- 25:50Speaker 1: said that. I was like, no way, that's so wild
- 25:56Speaker 1: to me because the exact not the exact same thing.
- 25:59Speaker 1: But I was listening to a song on the radio
- 26:01Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, this is a fucking bop
- 26:02Speaker 1: and I was like singing along and dancing to it.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And then my cousin was like, oh, yeah, this is
- 26:06Speaker 1: Takashi six nine, and I was like what, Yeah, Oh
- 26:09Speaker 1: my god. I felt tricked. I felt like bamboozl it
- 26:12Speaker 1: really a sinister like you said, because it's so catchy,
- 26:15Speaker 1: so catchy, and it's exactly like you said, a bop,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and then it almost makes you forget. It makes you forget,
- 26:20Speaker 1: and then it's like heavily auto tuned. I don't necessarily
- 26:22Speaker 1: know what this guy's voice even sounds like, right, That's
- 26:25Speaker 1: why I didn't. I don't even know with him. I
- 26:27Speaker 1: thought that Takashi was a rapper. Isn't he a rapper?
- 26:30Speaker 1: I guess I don't know, But in the song I
- 26:31Speaker 1: singing like he's actually singing in the song, which is
- 26:34Speaker 1: why I didn't even know it was him, which is
- 26:36Speaker 1: why I felt bamboogle like you said, right right, I
- 26:39Speaker 1: don't like it now, this is propaganda, right well. And
- 26:41Speaker 1: then this this Unweed guy, he got into some trouble
- 26:46Speaker 1: recently because he like said something on Instagram or has
- 26:50Speaker 1: a verse or something where he's kind of like makes
- 26:53Speaker 1: this really horrible comment about Hurricane Maria and like Puerto Rico,
- 26:56Speaker 1: Like he makes this like fucked up analogy, and then
- 26:58Speaker 1: he also says something like really homophobic. So I'm like, okay,
- 27:02Speaker 1: so both of these men need to be canceled, and
- 27:03Speaker 1: it makes sense why they also made a song together.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I'm not like, oh, canceled everybody, but I'm just like,
- 27:09Speaker 1: there are some people where it's like you can see
- 27:11Speaker 1: that they're homophobic and their pedophiles, and they're probably racist,
- 27:15Speaker 1: and you're probably most likely misogynistic. I don't need to
- 27:19Speaker 1: listen to that. I don't literally don't need I don't
- 27:21Speaker 1: need to support that type of artists, you know, especially
- 27:24Speaker 1: like you know, the Surviving R. Kelly documentary came out
- 27:28Speaker 1: within the past week or two, and that's not necessarily
- 27:31Speaker 1: like our community to know to comment upon. But but
- 27:35Speaker 1: we can't say you need to support survivors. Supporting survivors
- 27:38Speaker 1: needs not streaming these men are known abusers. If you're
- 27:41Speaker 1: streaming there, if you you are streaming their music, you
- 27:44Speaker 1: are literally putting money in their pockets and that money
- 27:47Speaker 1: will be used right to continue their abusive behavior. Right.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Just know that there's a direct correlation between listens and
- 27:56Speaker 1: their behavior, right, um and black survivors, Matt right, defend
- 28:01Speaker 1: black women, defend black girls, Black girls, black women, black
- 28:04Speaker 1: survivors matter. And I think that that's important to say,
- 28:07Speaker 1: you know, as a show of support of solidarity. And
- 28:10Speaker 1: we know our listeners are predominantly non black latinas right
- 28:14Speaker 1: and so um when we have conversations about women of
- 28:17Speaker 1: color and about you know, sisterhood, solidarity, fighting the patriarchy,
- 28:21Speaker 1: always so important to to make sure that we are
- 28:24Speaker 1: showing our support and our solidarity to black women, black fans,
- 28:28Speaker 1: right and creating that space within the conversation as well.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I wanted to take up space like let me talk
- 28:32Speaker 1: about it, but here let me pass the mic to
- 28:35Speaker 1: a black woman that's a survivor of black feom to survive.
- 28:37Speaker 1: So you know, Dream Hampton um Um, I think produced
- 28:42Speaker 1: the documentary series and some really heavy hitters on black
- 28:45Speaker 1: women who are very um like power users on Twitter
- 28:47Speaker 1: basically like, um, Mickey Candall I think was also involved
- 28:52Speaker 1: in the documentary and was in the documentary for years.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I've been following Mickey Candle for years. And then um
- 28:58Speaker 1: who else. Jamila mu also very very active on Twitter,
- 29:04Speaker 1: also contributed to the documentary. So go check out their work.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Um uh, they've been working on you know, this documentary
- 29:12Speaker 1: and on exploring what kind of damage R Kelly has
- 29:16Speaker 1: done for many years. Like these women have been in it,
- 29:19Speaker 1: like in the trenches on the ground, so they're the
- 29:21Speaker 1: ones to go and to look at their words and
- 29:23Speaker 1: their work around it, right, so we can see I
- 29:26Speaker 1: think there is a direct correlation. We can see what
- 29:29Speaker 1: not denouncing R Kelly has done. Right. So it's like
- 29:33Speaker 1: we literally have this opportunity with Tokashi six nine where
- 29:35Speaker 1: he's a young artist, right, he's literally only a few
- 29:37Speaker 1: years into his career, Like denouncing him now right because
- 29:42Speaker 1: he's a bit of files, actually has direct implications and
- 29:45Speaker 1: consequences as opposed to protecting this user the way R
- 29:48Speaker 1: Kelly was when you know, yeah, it's just unnecessary. We
- 29:53Speaker 1: can this is called prevention. This is called prevention. We
- 29:56Speaker 1: can put a fucking pin and it prevent it and
- 29:58Speaker 1: prevent more damage from being done. And that's the way
- 30:00Speaker 1: to do it. That's the only way to do it,
- 30:02Speaker 1: because the other way around, Like we can't let women
- 30:06Speaker 1: be UM fodder anymore. We will not be fodder anymore.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Funk that, Like our lives are too valuable. The careers
- 30:14Speaker 1: of these men are not worth it. These men are
- 30:17Speaker 1: not that great. The world will be okay without their music,
- 30:20Speaker 1: I promise you anyway. Anyways, um so I mean is
- 30:26Speaker 1: what as always you know, like you can find us
