- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. If you
- 0:18Speaker 1: only give us four stars, I'm inclined to believe that
- 0:20Speaker 1: you are today's guest from the ringer tailgate and the
- 0:23Speaker 1: press box of the fastest 10-year-old in America, 1988, Joel Anderson.
- 0:28Speaker 1: What's going on, big dog?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Man, I'm glad to be here, man. How you doing?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Look at you accepting the reality of the situation.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'm not going to be abated. So I got two things.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I'm trying to figure out the direction I want to
- 0:44Speaker 3: go right now.
- 0:46Speaker 1: You got to figure out how you want to be
- 0:48Speaker 1: a hater.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I'm just trying to figure out what kind
- 0:51Speaker 3: of show I want to have today, man.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Pick one.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I came in here actually empathetic for you, man. I
- 0:59Speaker 3: was thinking about Bomani when he was like 21, 22
- 1:03Speaker 3: years old, and he really wanted to go see one
- 1:07Speaker 3: of his favorite artists, James Brown. James Brown's in town, man.
- 1:10Speaker 3: He's really looking forward to going. He had nobody on
- 1:13Speaker 3: his roster, so he couldn't go. He missed out, and
- 1:17Speaker 3: then James Brown didn't live to make it too much longer,
- 1:20Speaker 3: and he never got to see James Brown. It's just
- 1:22Speaker 3: sad that you didn't have nobody you could take.
- 1:25Speaker 2: To the James Brown show, man.
- 1:28Speaker 1: What are you talking about?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, man, you tweeted it the other day.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. No, I said I didn't know nobody wanted
- 1:33Speaker 1: to roll with me. That was a little less about
- 1:35Speaker 1: the roster than going to see James Brown. It's just like,
- 1:38Speaker 1: anybody want to go see James Brown? That was wild.
- 1:42Speaker 2: It was just sad. I just felt sad that you
- 1:44Speaker 2: didn't have nobody to want to go with you.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Let me tell you how dedicated this motherfucker is to
- 1:48Speaker 1: being a hater. You realize what a stretch and how
- 1:51Speaker 1: difficult it was?
- 1:52Speaker 2: That's not a stretch. No, no, no.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Do you realize how difficult it was to try to
- 1:54Speaker 1: turn that story around? about something literally over half my
- 1:59Speaker 1: life i.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Was just thinking about sometimes that's a part of life
- 2:02Speaker 3: you just i'm just like man as you know i
- 2:05Speaker 3: was thinking about the missed opportunities and you know you being.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Well if i was but if i was living like
- 2:10Speaker 1: you was living when i was living like you was
- 2:12Speaker 1: living when you was in oklahoma you'd have had somebody
- 2:14Speaker 1: to roll with you to the james brown concert who
- 2:16Speaker 1: you know might even look like she married james brown.
- 2:21Speaker 2: All right, so I also want to say something about it.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You might want to go to the happy places.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I was just going to say also, I was going
- 2:29Speaker 3: to say, man, are you cheating?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Are you cheating?
- 2:34Speaker 1: Uh-uh.
- 2:35Speaker 2: You're not cheating?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Uh-uh.
- 2:39Speaker 2: You sure?
- 2:42Speaker 1: You're 0 for 2, Joel.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You're 0 for 2. All right.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you don't get to decide. The people
- 2:49Speaker 3: will decide, not you. But anyway, it's just sad that
- 2:53Speaker 3: I have to come here, coming up with material to
- 2:56Speaker 3: kind of keep you off of me because I just
- 2:57Speaker 3: know how else you were going to be.
- 2:59Speaker 2: You didn't even, I mean, my name.
- 3:02Speaker 1: That material is not keeping me off of you. That
- 3:05Speaker 1: material is telling everybody how correct I am. But rather
- 3:10Speaker 1: than talking to my good friend, who simply is a hater,
- 3:14Speaker 1: let's talk about somebody that I actually fucking hate. man
- 3:18Speaker 1: right like like like it's okay i need to stop
- 3:21Speaker 1: saying that i hate this dude because i don't know
- 3:22Speaker 1: him and it's lane kiffin and i was gonna say
- 3:24Speaker 1: i've never spoken to lane kiffin but i have spoken
- 3:27Speaker 1: with lane kiffin before because we had lane kiffin on
- 3:30Speaker 1: hq that same year he got fired on the tarmac
- 3:33Speaker 1: we had him because because we used to get like
- 3:36Speaker 1: the the coaches from all the conferences used to go
- 3:39Speaker 1: up to bristol and they would do the car wash
- 3:40Speaker 1: and they would go through and do all the shows
- 3:42Speaker 1: And so the Pac-10 coaches up there one day, they'd
- 3:44Speaker 1: all pull up in their polos. You know what I'm saying?
- 3:47Speaker 1: And so Lane Kiffin comes on and we do the
- 3:49Speaker 1: interview with that jerk. And then we get to the
- 3:53Speaker 1: place where it's time to, you know, for Poppy to
- 3:55Speaker 1: ask a question. And so we reset and I forget
- 3:58Speaker 1: what question Poppy asked, but you know, Poppy has this
- 4:01Speaker 1: very thick accent and he asked the question and Lane
- 4:03Speaker 1: Kiffin stops and goes, Hey, speak English.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yes. So anyway, I have spoken to Lane Kiffin, and
- 4:14Speaker 1: that is what happened. Wow. Yeah. Anyway, now Lane Kiffin
- 4:19Speaker 1: coach at Ole Miss. At least I think he'll still
- 4:21Speaker 1: be coaching at Ole Miss by the time you guys
- 4:23Speaker 1: hear this. They say they're going to make an announcement
- 4:26Speaker 1: after the Egg Bowl about what's going to happen with
- 4:28Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin's future. And the only thing that I can
- 4:30Speaker 1: conclude thus far is Lane Kiffin just messy, right? That's
- 4:35Speaker 1: the only way to put this. He's just messy. We
- 4:37Speaker 1: got this word out. that LSU has said they're going
- 4:41Speaker 1: to offer $ 25 million to NIL on top of a
- 4:43Speaker 1: $ 90 million contract, which is the kind of thing that
- 4:46Speaker 1: your agent puts out there to tell Florida that they
- 4:49Speaker 1: own the clock, because this is exactly what Trace Armstrong
- 4:52Speaker 1: did with Tom Herman in 2016. With LSU as the
- 4:55Speaker 1: bait to get the number up, you know, to get Texas,
- 4:58Speaker 1: they weren't even about to get the number up. It
- 5:00Speaker 1: was hurry up and fire Charlie Strong because y'all ain't
- 5:02Speaker 1: even did that yet, right? But this is the game
- 5:05Speaker 1: that gets played. And so, Either Lane goes to Florida
- 5:09Speaker 1: or Lane goes to LSU or Lane stays at Ole Miss.
- 5:13Speaker 1: To me, the messiest thing that his little messy ass
- 5:16Speaker 1: could ever do was go to LSU because of how
- 5:20Speaker 1: messy LSU is as a top-to-bottom situation. Like, he's a
- 5:24Speaker 1: fool if anything is at all close and he chooses
- 5:28Speaker 1: to walk into the madness that is LSU in this moment.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Man, you know, first of all, for a second, is
- 5:37Speaker 3: that Situation that you described on the Levitard show, man.
- 5:42Speaker 2: What was it called?
- 5:43Speaker 1: Highly questionable.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Highly questionable. Yeah, okay. My bad. It was highly questionable
- 5:47Speaker 2: with Dan Levitard, you know. But anyway.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Hey, what? What are you doing?
- 5:53Speaker 2: Okay, just slow down. Let me just make the point here, okay?
- 5:57Speaker 1: Let me slow down. I'll ask you, what were you doing?
- 5:59Speaker 1: And now you're telling me to slow down. You need
- 6:01Speaker 1: to slow down.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Wow.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I was thinking of the Ta-Nehisi clip when they replayed.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Wow, that's really racist.
- 6:08Speaker 3: That's really racist. Yeah, that's going through my head. I
- 6:10Speaker 3: was like, wow, that's really racist.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I was hot.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Did y'all run that?
- 6:15Speaker 1: Y'all didn't run that. Yes, we did. Yes, we did.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I don't remember that. Yeah, we ran that. And it
- 6:19Speaker 1: was one of those things where like, like, I guess
- 6:22Speaker 1: this happened to white people sometimes when people say some
- 6:24Speaker 1: wild shit to black people and the black person be like,
- 6:26Speaker 1: oh man, that happens every day, dog. Dan seemed to
- 6:29Speaker 1: take it in stride.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And I was like, Yeah.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You know, like, I'm new here. You know what I'm saying?
- 6:34Speaker 1: I'm about ready to ride for the homie in this moment.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I just, anyway. Oh, man. Well, no wonder you feel
- 6:42Speaker 3: that way about him. I mean, he's not a likable person.
- 6:44Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. That's on the list. Part
- 6:48Speaker 1: and parcel. I feel this way about him because he's him.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I hate the way that he walked, the way that
- 6:54Speaker 1: he talked. I hate everything about Lane Kiffin.
- 6:59Speaker 3: It's kind of crazy because, man, the thing is, if
- 7:01Speaker 3: he could stay at Ole Miss and you can just
- 7:02Speaker 3: kind of keep the hate distilled in one place. I
- 7:04Speaker 3: don't have to read a sheet. I don't hate LSU.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Right now, I don't hate LSU. I don't hate Florida, right?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So before we get back to late, Kevin, I want
- 7:16Speaker 1: to talk about this part right fast because you're a
- 7:19Speaker 1: great person to talk about this with. And I don't
- 7:20Speaker 1: know if you saw this, but Stephen A made the
- 7:23Speaker 1: point on first take that– I saw this. the brothers
- 7:26Speaker 1: don't want to go play in Oxford, Mississippi, that they
- 7:30Speaker 1: would rather go to Baton Rouge or they would rather
- 7:33Speaker 1: go to Gainesville. Paul Feinbaum took offense to that with
- 7:37Speaker 1: the whole, you know, the South is different argument and
- 7:40Speaker 1: so forth and so on. Raul, I will say this.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Have you ever been to Oxford?
- 7:45Speaker 2: I've been through it. I've not stayed very long. Okay.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So I have not been to Oxford.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But Oxford, as I am told, is not so bad.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Right, like Oxford, the town. Stephen A. putting that in
- 7:59Speaker 1: the context of the town, right? It's kind of like,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but for white people, like white people in like Baton Rouge,
- 8:05Speaker 1: looking at Baton Rouge, kind of like, yuck. But young
- 8:08Speaker 1: black person. Yeah. Baton Rouge sounds right on top. I
- 8:13Speaker 1: got this right here. I got that over there on
- 8:16Speaker 1: the other side of town. Oh, okay. So I got
- 8:19Speaker 1: Southern and I got LSU.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And New Orleans ain't that far away.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right. Yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I could understand somebody making the argument that Oxford is
- 8:28Speaker 1: a place they would rather be than Baton Rouge, or
- 8:32Speaker 1: saying that they don't believe that Oxford is a town,
- 8:34Speaker 1: racially speaking, is necessarily that much different, like in terms
- 8:37Speaker 1: of animus or whatever, than Baton Rouge. I would get
- 8:40Speaker 1: that point. However, I think what Stephen A. was saying
- 8:43Speaker 1: is reflective of men of a certain age, and I
- 8:46Speaker 1: would say in this category, while Stephen A. is older
- 8:49Speaker 1: than you or I, we are men of the same age,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and that's the age that remembers. Oh, right. That's the
- 8:55Speaker 1: age that remember that there's no circumstance under which I would.
- 8:59Speaker 1: You're not going to fool me. You know what I mean? Like, right.
- 9:02Speaker 1: There's no circumstance under which I would ever, if I
- 9:04Speaker 1: was a father, approve of my kid going to play
- 9:09Speaker 1: at Ole Miss.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:10Speaker 1: As long as they insist upon being called Ole Miss. Right.
- 9:13Speaker 1: There's no way that that would ever happen. There's no
- 9:17Speaker 1: way that I would ever go for that.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I could understand if people disputed whether or not this
- 9:22Speaker 3: was a generational thing, because I do wonder how Black
- 9:27Speaker 3: kids growing up in this generation feel about Ole Miss,
- 9:29Speaker 3: because they weren't confronted with the signs that we saw.
- 9:32Speaker 3: The first thing that I remember about an Ole Miss
- 9:35Speaker 3: game was seeing Confederate flags flying in the stands.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And how wild it is that they would even put
- 9:39Speaker 1: that on TV.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Yeah, man, that was a big part of the pageantry
- 9:43Speaker 3: of the stadium in those days, right?
- 9:44Speaker 2: And I mean, just from the colors.
- 9:47Speaker 3: to the iconography, to the mascot itself, it is a
- 9:51Speaker 3: real hard sell for Black people of a certain age.
- 9:54Speaker 3: And those people are parents now. Parents and young grandparents.
- 9:59Speaker 3: And so when their kids are going to school there,
- 10:01Speaker 3: there probably are those people are saying, Hey man, you
- 10:03Speaker 3: sure that's something you really want to do.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And schools have to deal with that long legacy. Like
- 10:09Speaker 1: the back and forth that we have about Texas football
- 10:11Speaker 1: is in line with this, right? That if you are
- 10:14Speaker 1: of a certain range and differences, like I say, My
- 10:17Speaker 1: people did not grow up in Texas. Yours did, right? So, like,
- 10:20Speaker 1: that means something different in that regard. But for those
- 10:23Speaker 1: people who are of a certain age, University of Texas
- 10:26Speaker 1: is not a place. It took a long time for
- 10:28Speaker 1: them to overcome that. And as bad as Texas was
- 10:30Speaker 1: on race, they might as well have been goddamn University
- 10:33Speaker 1: of Houston compared to being Ole Miss, right?
- 10:37Speaker 3: Yeah, because the funny thing about it is that Texas,
- 10:39Speaker 3: in terms of, like, policy or whatever, it may actually
- 10:41Speaker 3: have been a little bit worse because they're the ones
- 10:43Speaker 3: that came up with the LSAT.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Like, they're the ones. Right. You know, they came away
- 10:46Speaker 2: and they were the.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I mean, again, I mean, this is sort of a
- 10:49Speaker 3: victim of circumstance, but they had the last all white
- 10:51Speaker 3: national champion in college football.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:54Speaker 3: But I mean, I don't think it was probably the
- 10:56Speaker 3: most racist place. But the thing about Ole Miss is
- 10:58Speaker 3: not only that it have that legacy of segregation.
- 11:02Speaker 2: In the fight over desegregation, but they just held on
- 11:04Speaker 2: to the fight for so long.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Into the 21st century.
- 11:09Speaker 3: That even Tommy Tuberville had to tell them, can you
- 11:12Speaker 3: guys please put those flags down because it is hard
- 11:14Speaker 3: to get people here.
- 11:15Speaker 2: It is hard to recruit here.
- 11:17Speaker 1: They had to trick them into getting rid of the flags.
- 11:20Speaker 1: And for people who don't know, the only reason they
- 11:23Speaker 1: stopped waving those Confederate flags, and it wasn't really big
- 11:26Speaker 1: Confederate flags, it was little ones. And what they outlawed
- 11:30Speaker 1: were the sticks.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yep.
- 11:32Speaker 1: And they deemed that the sticks were a safety hazard.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And that's how they were able to get people to
- 11:37Speaker 1: stop waving the Confederate flag at games. But this is
- 11:41Speaker 1: the part where I feel like people are dishonest and
- 11:43Speaker 1: disingenuous on this matter. So why do you think Ole
- 11:47Speaker 1: Miss isn't as good as the schools around them? You
- 11:50Speaker 1: see what I'm saying? Like, because look, on its face,
- 11:53Speaker 1: Florida obviously is a great job. But Florida is a
- 11:57Speaker 1: weird job because Florida is really three states in one.
- 12:02Speaker 1: North Florida, Central Florida, and South Florida. you still have
- 12:06Speaker 1: to recruit nationally to win at Florida, right? LSU even,
- 12:11Speaker 1: you still have to recruit nationally to get it done.
- 12:12Speaker 1: But with Florida, Florida has the advantage of being in
- 12:15Speaker 1: the middle where like in Miami, for example, Miami and Tallahassee,
- 12:18Speaker 1: that's not a drive. No, not at all. It's like
- 12:21Speaker 1: six hours, but like it's- You wouldn't want to do it. Yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 1: they're in totally different places. You're not going to have
- 12:25Speaker 1: that much luck getting North Florida kids to come down
- 12:28Speaker 1: to play at Miami and vice versa, right? I mean,
- 12:31Speaker 1: there are obviously examples like Devontae Freeman and Dalvin Cook,
- 12:34Speaker 1: going from Miami to Florida State. But you get what
- 12:35Speaker 1: I'm saying is that it's geographically a funny, you're not
- 12:39Speaker 1: just getting every player you want out of the state
- 12:41Speaker 1: of Florida. Absolutely. Just to go to the University of Florida.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It's not really how it works. Ole Miss, you got
- 12:46Speaker 1: access to Memphis, right? Mississippi has a lot of football players.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Isn't it shocking?
- 12:53Speaker 3: Were you shocked at how close Memphis is to Ole Miss?
- 12:55Speaker 1: 45 minutes away.
- 12:57Speaker 3: I'm thinking it makes it even worse in my eyes
- 13:00Speaker 3: because I'm like, oh, they've always been close to Memphis.
- 13:03Speaker 3: They could have been able to tap into that, but
- 13:05Speaker 3: why do they think they've not been able to tap
- 13:06Speaker 3: into Memphis all these years?
- 13:07Speaker 1: Well, it's so funny. No, they know why they have it.
- 13:09Speaker 1: First of all, they weren't trying that hard.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Somebody once made the point to me about the state
- 13:14Speaker 1: of Mississippi that The greatest running back in the history
- 13:17Speaker 1: of the state of Mississippi. Probably the second– I'm going
- 13:22Speaker 1: to say the greatest quarterback in the history of the
- 13:24Speaker 1: state of Mississippi and the second greatest quarterback in the
- 13:26Speaker 1: history of the state of Mississippi and the greatest wide
- 13:28Speaker 1: receiver in the history of the state of Mississippi. None
- 13:33Speaker 1: of them went to Ole Miss or Mississippi State. And
- 13:35Speaker 1: I am talking about Walter Payton, Brett Favre, Steve McNair–
- 13:41Speaker 1: And Jerry Rice.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Now, I've been told that Jerry Rice got an offer
- 13:45Speaker 1: from Mississippi State, but they were running the bone. I'm
- 13:48Speaker 1: not exactly sure. I think Emory Ballard was coaching then,
- 13:50Speaker 1: so I'm not exactly sure. But none of those other
- 13:52Speaker 1: guys got offers from the big schools. Ole Miss was
- 13:55Speaker 1: so racist that you didn't offer Walter Payton.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I mean, isn't it still not true that Jackson State
- 14:01Speaker 3: has more Hall of Famers than Ole Miss and Mississippi
- 14:04Speaker 3: State combined?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It's got to be because they got five.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah, right. So I was like, I mean, if you
- 14:08Speaker 3: just want to know, like, for those people, that's also
- 14:11Speaker 3: the thing.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Hold on. I think Mississippi Valley might have more.
- 14:16Speaker 2: They might.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Because Mississippi Valley got two.
- 14:19Speaker 2: See? Yeah.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I mean. By the way, and the two are Deacon
- 14:23Speaker 1: Jones and Jerry Rice.
- 14:27Speaker 3: I mean, that's some, I mean, just think about, I mean,
- 14:30Speaker 3: things have really changed culturally in our country. But think
- 14:33Speaker 3: about how racist you are to have not gotten any,
- 14:35Speaker 3: gotten on any of those.
- 14:37Speaker 1: People, man. Think about how racist you are that Alabama
- 14:43Speaker 1: was like, nah, dog. Y'all better get with Dwayne. Right.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I was like, man, can y'all please cool out some
- 14:51Speaker 3: of that stuff? South Carolina got in line. a little
- 14:54Speaker 3: bit before Ole Miss on that front, right?
- 14:56Speaker 1: By the way, Ole Miss with Patrick Willis just got
- 14:58Speaker 1: their third. Okay. But they have three. One's name is
- 15:02Speaker 1: Bruiser Canard. I mean, all players that I assume, they
- 15:06Speaker 1: went in the Hall of Fame before, you know, the
- 15:08Speaker 1: New World Order came into effect. Deacon Jones, I think,
- 15:12Speaker 1: is like a dual. Like, he went to South Carolina
- 15:15Speaker 1: State and he went to Valley. I believe that's what
- 15:18Speaker 1: the story is with him. South Carolina State, by the way,
- 15:21Speaker 1: has four.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Damn.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Yeah. South Carolina State has four. Jackson State has four.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Four, right.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Grambling has, I want to say six. No, gross. I'm probably,
- 15:33Speaker 1: Grambling has four.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Grambling only has four.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Okay. I thought it was more than that, but Grambling
- 15:38Speaker 1: has four. Southern has three. Texas Southern has two. Mm-hmm.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We can go on and on on this. But anyway,
- 15:48Speaker 1: people are not honest about this when it comes to
- 15:50Speaker 1: Ole Miss. Stephen Goffrey had the line once. Basically, it
- 15:53Speaker 1: was something to the effect of, Ole Miss wonders why
- 15:56Speaker 1: it's not as good as Alabama, just like Texas wonders
- 15:59Speaker 1: why it's not as good as Oklahoma, as if the
- 16:01Speaker 1: answer isn't staring you directly in the face. Y'all was
- 16:04Speaker 1: late to the game. And so to me, Ole Miss
- 16:08Speaker 1: should not be a job that you feel like you
- 16:11Speaker 1: have to leave to go to LSU for. or Florida.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It shouldn't be.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Like, to me, if Lane really got- The blackest state
- 16:18Speaker 2: in the union.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Right, right. And look, now that the money in the
- 16:22Speaker 1: SEC is what it is, I do think that they
- 16:24Speaker 1: have a younger alumni base that's got some bread that
- 16:28Speaker 1: they can throw around. You're no longer fighting off, in
- 16:32Speaker 1: large part, what you and I have just been talking
- 16:34Speaker 1: about in terms of historical legacy, except for the fact
- 16:37Speaker 1: that's the only reason why you wouldn't be as good.
- 16:41Speaker 1: You know what I mean? So I see why a
- 16:43Speaker 1: cat like Firebomb is sounding the way he does. For example,
- 16:47Speaker 1: Ole Miss has had a black quarterback in the last
- 16:49Speaker 1: 20 years, which I cannot say about Georgia.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Man, I guess since Shockley.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And look what it took for him to play.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Justin Fields couldn't get on the field.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Did DeJuan Mathis go there? Am I making that up?
- 17:05Speaker 2: Is DeJuan Mathis the kid that went to Georgia?
- 17:08Speaker 1: He did, but I have to say. I watched that
- 17:10Speaker 1: young man play. He was wild up. He was real
- 17:18Speaker 1: wild up. Like I understood what had gone down there.
- 17:23Speaker 1: But yeah, so Ole Miss is a weird, it's an
- 17:26Speaker 1: interesting discussion about Ole Miss, but Ole Miss should be
- 17:29Speaker 1: a job that's good enough to stay at. Like you've
- 17:31Speaker 1: demonstrated that you can win a living, you've demonstrated that
- 17:34Speaker 1: right now you can win 11 games at Ole Miss.
- 17:37Speaker 1: You've shown that. You should not have to leave that
- 17:40Speaker 1: to go to LSU or to Florida, neither of which
- 17:44Speaker 1: I would argue in the last five years has been
- 17:46Speaker 1: as good as Ole Miss.
- 17:47Speaker 2: No, not really. No.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Right? And look, and I also say this about Lane.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I think Lane's overrated. I think that we still treat
- 17:53Speaker 1: Lane like he's a child, like he's not 50 years old,
- 17:56Speaker 1: like Lane just needs to turn the corner. How many
- 17:58Speaker 1: chances is Lane going to get? He's had so many
- 18:02Speaker 1: good jobs. Whichever one of these jobs that Lane gets
- 18:05Speaker 1: will be the third best job that he's ever had. Damn.
- 18:08Speaker 2: That's right, because he had USC and he had.
- 18:11Speaker 1: The Oakland Raiders. Yeah. By the way, Al Davis was
- 18:15Speaker 1: right about that boy.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 18:18Speaker 1: He's an embarrassment. He had Tennessee. Tennessee was a good job.
- 18:22Speaker 1: And he embarrassed them. And he embarrassed them just like
- 18:24Speaker 1: Al said he would. Embarrassed USC so bad, they fired
- 18:27Speaker 1: him on the sideline. Well, they made the decision on
- 18:31Speaker 1: the sideline. They fired him on the tarmac.
- 18:34Speaker 3: See, man, you really be driving in with the tarmac
- 18:38Speaker 3: shit because you love to talk about how you got.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Fired on the tarmac. I love it. I love it.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I love it. Well, you have to remember, and for
- 18:45Speaker 1: those who don't know, in the year 2013, they're standing
- 18:49Speaker 1: on the side, like they are getting boat raced by
- 18:53Speaker 1: Arizona State. I want to say they gave up something
- 18:56Speaker 1: like 600 yards. They may have given up like 60 points.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Like it was, it was really bad. And so as
- 19:00Speaker 1: the game is going on, they're showing these clips of
- 19:03Speaker 1: the athletic director on the sideline, huddling up with somebody.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And it's like, Hey guys, I think he's going to
- 19:10Speaker 1: get fired after this game.
- 19:12Speaker 2: It stops today.
- 19:13Speaker 1: It stops now. It stops now.
- 19:16Speaker 2: It stops now.
- 19:19Speaker 1: But they didn't even wait till the next day. They
- 19:22Speaker 1: fired him. The plane landed and they fired him right
- 19:27Speaker 1: then and there. He has also gotten fired preparing for
- 19:31Speaker 1: a bowl game. Not just any bowl game. The national
- 19:34Speaker 1: championship game. Because Nick Saban felt like this guy was
- 19:37Speaker 1: acting like too much of a clown. and not preparing
- 19:40Speaker 1: for the game and focused on his next job. And
- 19:43Speaker 1: fired him.
- 19:43Speaker 3: How much of this is you bringing up old shit? Because,
- 19:47Speaker 3: I mean, look, man, I'm just going to... gonna be
- 19:50Speaker 3: open to the idea that i don't think lane kiffin
- 19:53Speaker 3: is an elite coach right but i do think there
- 19:56Speaker 3: is an argument to be made that it was really
- 19:58Speaker 3: tough to win at fau he seems to be the
- 20:01Speaker 3: only person that has done that in recent memory Ole Miss,
- 20:06Speaker 3: for whatever people say about it now, nobody thought about
- 20:08Speaker 3: it the way that they think about it right now
- 20:10Speaker 3: before he got there. He's shown proof of concept. Those
- 20:12Speaker 3: are places that are not really easy to win. But
- 20:15Speaker 3: I also think that he's gotten some breaks in those places.
- 20:19Speaker 3: He got the tail end of Alabama. LSU has not
- 20:23Speaker 3: been operating the way that it should be operating. Arkansas
- 20:26Speaker 3: is not really a threat to them. So you know,
- 20:29Speaker 3: he had an opportunity to feast in a way that
- 20:32Speaker 3: a lot of other guys aren't. And then now he's
- 20:33Speaker 3: going to have to compete against Texas and Oklahoma and
- 20:36Speaker 3: Georgia is good now. So I think that that job
- 20:38Speaker 3: is going to look in three years. If he's not there,
- 20:41Speaker 3: it's going to look a lot different. I think that
- 20:42Speaker 3: he could continue to be a nine to 10 win
- 20:44Speaker 3: year coach at Ole Miss to your point.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 3: I'm not sure if the lane thing works at LSU
- 20:50Speaker 3: for all the reasons you said, like LSU appears to
- 20:53Speaker 3: be a mess.
- 20:54Speaker 1: They just, and they just had a coach that people
- 20:57Speaker 1: don't like.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Right. Right. That's right. Right.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's the thing, because, you know, my
- 21:02Speaker 3: co-host Van is an LSU fan and he talks about,
- 21:06Speaker 3: you know, men win at LSU, not just coaches, men
- 21:09Speaker 3: win there. And I'm like, so what about Lane Kiffin
- 21:13Speaker 3: do you all like then? Like, does he fit the
- 21:15Speaker 3: archetype of the guy that you want to have as
- 21:18Speaker 3: the face of your program? I just don't feel like
- 21:21Speaker 3: I mean, to the extent that people worry about culture.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Fit, that's the thing. I'm like, does he really fit there?
- 21:26Speaker 3: Florida feels like it's in third place right now, but
- 21:30Speaker 3: it feels like that would be the best fit.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels like that would be the best fit
- 21:32Speaker 2: for him.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Well, hold on. When did they get in third place?
- 21:34Speaker 1: Because when this all started, they were in first place.
- 21:38Speaker 1: He is the spiritual successor to Steve Spurrier. And I
- 21:42Speaker 1: do think, though, that this is something that is important,
- 21:45Speaker 1: that different places want different styles of play. Yes. And
- 21:51Speaker 1: simply winning is not enough, right? LSU, they want to
- 21:55Speaker 1: run the ball. They don't necessarily want to run the
- 21:58Speaker 1: ball every play. Like, obviously, they were pretty happy with
- 22:01Speaker 1: Jordan Jefferson, Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow, right? Right.
- 22:07Speaker 2: But it got to look like that.
- 22:08Speaker 1: But they want to run the ball. They had a
- 22:09Speaker 1: first-round pick at running back. Like, they want to run
- 22:12Speaker 1: the ball, right?
- 22:12Speaker 2: Kevin Falk, Kendall Cleveland.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Cecil Collins.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Cecil the Diesel.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Cecil the Diesel Collins.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Justin Vincent.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Justin Vincent.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, bro. Don't kill you if you want to go back. Yeah, man.
- 22:23Speaker 3: They wanted Fournette, who is the quintessential LSU, you know,
- 22:27Speaker 3: running back, right?
- 22:28Speaker 2: Like, yeah, that's what they want.
- 22:30Speaker 1: They want to run the ball. Florida wants to play
- 22:32Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin football.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin football with no Nick Saban to tell him
- 22:37Speaker 1: to run the ball can go off the rails at
- 22:39Speaker 1: LSU fast. The other thing is I don't feel like
- 22:42Speaker 1: Lane's demonstrated himself to be a guy that's going to
- 22:44Speaker 1: get the defense right. He might get the defense right,
- 22:47Speaker 1: but you're going to need to– you're going to need
- 22:50Speaker 1: to cut a big check and like hope that, and
- 22:52Speaker 1: too bad for them, Dave Aranda did not get fired, right?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Like hope that Dave Aranda gets fired and moves comfortably
- 22:57Speaker 1: into a world that I guess if it doesn't exist now,
- 22:59Speaker 1: will exist soon of the $ 6 million top flight defensive coordinator, right?
- 23:04Speaker 1: That gets to be head coach of the defense.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Allegedly, according to reporting, he's shown a willingness to have
- 23:10Speaker 3: Coach O on his staff, even if he go back
- 23:12Speaker 3: to LSU, allegedly.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Look, people think I'm joking. Ryan is tired of me
- 23:18Speaker 1: saying this. the best coach for LSU to hire, just
- 23:22Speaker 1: while y'all get this shit settled down and figured out,
- 23:24Speaker 1: without question, is Ed Ozeron.
- 23:27Speaker 2: You said just get them back in a room together.
- 23:28Speaker 2: It's like, hey, man, just look. They're going to be
- 23:29Speaker 2: over for the house.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Look, it's only going to be about three years, right? Like,
- 23:33Speaker 1: get Ed. Ed will get you the players that you want.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Ed will get it done, right? You got to give–
- 23:40Speaker 1: what happened to Ed was, and he's right about this,
- 23:42Speaker 1: Ed had the brain drain happen to him, right? Lost
- 23:44Speaker 1: Joe Brady, lost Dave Aranda, and, of course, Ed lost
- 23:47Speaker 1: his wife and was trying to holler at the ladies
- 23:50Speaker 1: at practice by bringing their sons in.
- 23:52Speaker 3: He told the old girl at the gas station, apparently,
- 23:57Speaker 3: what that got to do with me.
- 23:58Speaker 2: She said she was married.
- 23:59Speaker 1: He's like, what's up now? But his thing was not–
- 24:03Speaker 1: I talked to somebody. No, it was what it was.
- 24:05Speaker 1: What's that matter is what he said. And I talked
- 24:08Speaker 1: to somebody who made a very good point in defense
- 24:09Speaker 1: of Ed Ogeron on that. Ed Ogeron is such a
- 24:12Speaker 1: maniac that he really might have wanted to work out
- 24:14Speaker 1: with her. Like, it is possible. But he's like, maybe
- 24:20Speaker 1: he want to work out too. This is what it
- 24:24Speaker 1: could be. But you said... You said before the show
- 24:28Speaker 1: you had a defensive lane. Was that a little meager
- 24:30Speaker 1: bit that you just offered the defensive lane?
- 24:32Speaker 2: No, the defensive lane is that there's no good way
- 24:34Speaker 2: to do this.
- 24:35Speaker 3: And part of the problem is that the schools are
- 24:38Speaker 3: being extremely stupid by, and I was just thinking about this,
- 24:42Speaker 3: why are they firing their coaches so early in the year?
- 24:44Speaker 3: Because Florida falls apart now. Florida, the thing that I
- 24:49Speaker 3: always said about Billy Napier and that staff, I was like, man,
- 24:51Speaker 3: them boys play hard for him. They may not play well,
- 24:53Speaker 3: but they play hard. And it looks like they've just
- 24:55Speaker 3: kind of given up. And LSU last night was struggling
- 24:58Speaker 3: with Western Kentucky. They couldn't even put up 20 points
- 25:02Speaker 3: against Western Kentucky, man. So I'm like, why are they
- 25:05Speaker 3: firing coaches so early? Why are they punting on.
- 25:08Speaker 1: The year so early? But you know why they are.
- 25:11Speaker 1: It's early signing day. The early signing day was a useless,
- 25:17Speaker 1: terrible decision.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Yeah, because you're not going to be able to take
- 25:19Speaker 3: advantage of it anyway under these circumstances.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:25Speaker 1: But you can't... We started seeing this move to these
- 25:30Speaker 1: early fires. That is when we saw it happen.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Who was it, like Willie Taggart? He was one of
- 25:34Speaker 2: the first I remember.
- 25:35Speaker 1: The Willie Taggart-Chad Morris year was a year of that.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But it got to be like... We need to be
- 25:41Speaker 1: able to start like clearing this out for whatever the
- 25:44Speaker 1: future is going to be on that. And I, I
- 25:47Speaker 1: agree with you that firing these coaches a month into
- 25:49Speaker 1: a football season is preposterous. Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 3: You told the kids, you told the kids that the
- 25:54Speaker 3: season doesn't matter anymore. You've given up. What are they
- 25:58Speaker 3: supposed to think? Their coach isn't there anymore. They got
- 26:00Speaker 3: a substitute teacher for the rest of the year.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yeah. And they're, they're not just doing it. They're doing
- 26:05Speaker 1: it and they don't even know where they're going to
- 26:06Speaker 1: get the money from.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Bro, they don't know where they're going to get the
- 26:10Speaker 3: money from. Okay, here's the thing. You fired Billy Napier,
- 26:13Speaker 3: and we've known you were going to follow Billy Napier
- 26:15Speaker 3: all this time. Why can't you be like Virginia Tech
- 26:17Speaker 3: and already have your coach.
- 26:18Speaker 2: By now then?
- 26:19Speaker 3: If it was going to be this anyway, like you
- 26:21Speaker 3: were going to be coming down to the stretch, and
- 26:23Speaker 3: if that guy turns you down, you're going to have
- 26:25Speaker 3: to go to plan B.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Why didn't you just wait? But to be fair, Virginia
- 26:29Speaker 1: Tech did not think that they were going to be
- 26:31Speaker 1: lucky enough to see James Franklin get fired. And while
- 26:34Speaker 1: there are many legitimate criticisms of James Franklin to be made,
- 26:39Speaker 1: The difference between James Franklin and Lane Kiffin?
- 26:45Speaker 3: I would rather have James. I feel like James is
- 26:48Speaker 3: going to be straight no matter what.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Well, I will say this, though. There are more criticisms
- 26:52Speaker 1: of James Franklin as a game day coach than there
- 26:55Speaker 1: are of Lane Kiffin.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 1: There are more criticisms of, and this is the big one,
- 26:59Speaker 1: James Franklin as a developer of quarterbacks or perhaps a
- 27:03Speaker 1: ruiner of quarterbacks, depending upon who you talk to. than
- 27:07Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin. Lane ain't ruling no quarterback. He may make
- 27:09Speaker 1: it a little bit too easy and you get fooled
- 27:11Speaker 1: by what you got there. But no, but they got
- 27:13Speaker 1: Virginia Tech relative to the weight class that they are in.
- 27:17Speaker 1: They made a great hire.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I mean, the program at Penn State was solid.
- 27:22Speaker 3: If the big thing is that they couldn't beat Ohio
- 27:25Speaker 3: State or they were throwing into the end zone in
- 27:28Speaker 3: the semifinals and didn't beat Notre Dame and that was,
- 27:31Speaker 3: you know, they didn't come up in the semifinals. What semifinals?
- 27:37Speaker 3: The college football semifinals.
- 27:38Speaker 1: The whole country semifinals. Yeah, the whole country. Yeah. Yeah,
- 27:41Speaker 1: the whole country. Yeah.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Bro, they could have played in the national championship game
- 27:45Speaker 2: last year.
- 27:46Speaker 3: They could have played. It was that close, right? And
- 27:50Speaker 3: I just, you know, Penn State, they fired James Franklin.
- 27:56Speaker 3: It all fell apart. I guess they, you know, like
- 27:58Speaker 3: you said on here, they were tired of him. They
- 28:00Speaker 3: didn't want to go on. They were ready to move on.
- 28:02Speaker 3: But okay, has it helped you? Like early signing day
- 28:05Speaker 3: is pretty soon here. Where's your guy?
- 28:08Speaker 2: Where's the guy that you had? If you're going to
- 28:10Speaker 2: fire James Franklin, you should, I mean, you should upgrade, right?
- 28:15Speaker 1: That's the thing, right? And I applaud the coaches that
- 28:18Speaker 1: looked around and said to them, like Baylor did with
- 28:20Speaker 1: Dave Aranda. They looked around and they're like, yeah, no,
- 28:24Speaker 1: not right now. Not right now. I mean, I think
- 28:27Speaker 1: North Carolina is ultimately going to punt the Belichick decision.
- 28:29Speaker 1: They're just going to make him get, what's his name,
- 28:31Speaker 1: out of there. Lombardi. Yeah, Lombardi just going to have
- 28:35Speaker 1: to get out of there. But, you know, it's some
- 28:37Speaker 1: other jobs where I think they've looked around. I don't
- 28:39Speaker 1: know if Florida State can afford to bring Norvell back
- 28:42Speaker 1: just because the milk done gone so bad. But they
- 28:45Speaker 1: ain't got the money, so they might not have a chance.
- 28:47Speaker 1: USC clearly is stuck on this.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I feel like that is a failed experiment.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I want to see Lincoln another year because he's going
- 28:58Speaker 3: to have the number one ranked recruiting class coming in.
- 29:01Speaker 3: It does seem like this is the year that you
- 29:04Speaker 3: can kind of see, okay, he finally has a defense.
- 29:07Speaker 3: If he can keep Danton Lynn, the defensive coordinator, and
- 29:10Speaker 3: they can build on that and they bring in that
- 29:13Speaker 3: number one ranked recruiting class, I.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Kind of feel like USC is in position. The only
- 29:17Speaker 2: game that they.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Lost this year that you really are like, why did
- 29:20Speaker 3: y'all lose that game, is Illinois. And the dynamics of it,
- 29:24Speaker 3: traveling early, playing out there, the travel and everything, I mean,
- 29:27Speaker 3: that's just going to be part of it. But I
- 29:28Speaker 3: feel like that wasn't, That's the game.
- 29:31Speaker 2: It's like, ah, damn. They would have been in the playoffs.
- 29:33Speaker 1: They're going to forever hate that. I mean, I guess
- 29:36Speaker 1: it was a decision that they had to make, but
- 29:38Speaker 1: that Big Ten... I think going to the, interestingly enough,
- 29:43Speaker 1: I think going to the Big Ten made Oregon somehow
- 29:47Speaker 1: a better looking job. Yeah. Made USC a worse looking job.
- 29:52Speaker 1: And I don't know what to say about Washington. You
- 29:55Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, it's just a, and turn
- 29:57Speaker 1: UCLA into Northwestern. But I guess UCLA has kind of
- 30:02Speaker 1: been Northwestern for the last 30 years, but I don't,
- 30:05Speaker 1: I just don't. I think that argument about those flights
- 30:08Speaker 1: is real and there are more flights to be had
- 30:11Speaker 1: for them. than there are for other people. The problem is,
- 30:13Speaker 1: what Lincoln doesn't get is, ain't no time to whine, baby.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Ain't nobody trying to hear it. And they're sick of
- 30:19Speaker 1: his shit, but I think they're stuck with him for
- 30:21Speaker 1: another year.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I mean, I think they're stuck.
- 30:24Speaker 3: I mean, you may be right that that may not
- 30:25Speaker 3: be as great a fit as people thought, but I
- 30:27Speaker 3: feel like next year, it'll be really sort of the
- 30:29Speaker 3: pivot year for him. It's like, this is his Franklin year.
- 30:31Speaker 3: It's like, all right, you got your number one rank.
- 30:33Speaker 3: I think Maiava is a junior, too, so he'll get
- 30:36Speaker 3: to come back next year, too. I think they'll be okay.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I mean, I would say.
- 30:42Speaker 3: That move to the Big Ten, because it was like, well,
- 30:45Speaker 3: USC had the West Coast on lock, bro. And it's
- 30:47Speaker 3: just like, well, now that everybody's open out here, and
- 30:49Speaker 3: it's like, well, Oregon's got more money, the program, the
- 30:52Speaker 3: proof of concept. It's like, if it's all going to
- 30:55Speaker 3: be far away, I might as.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Well go up there, you know?
- 30:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that's the other part, too, is that,
- 30:59Speaker 1: and this is the thing I felt when Texas A &
- 31:03Speaker 1: M went to the SEC and why it was so
- 31:05Speaker 1: bad for the Big 12. That just meant that Alabama
- 31:08Speaker 1: was coming in and getting Texas players. But Texas A &
- 31:11Speaker 1: M wouldn't get no Alabama players.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 31:13Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Ole Miss was coming in
- 31:15Speaker 1: and getting Texas players because the door had been open.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Oh, they got that tackle out of Allen.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Remember the year that Hugh Freeze and them, they feasted
- 31:23Speaker 3: on dudes.
- 31:24Speaker 2: They feasted on cats out of Texas.
- 31:25Speaker 1: His final three, I want to say, were Ole Miss, LSU,
- 31:28Speaker 1: and Alabama. But that's the point I'm making is that
- 31:32Speaker 1: I think that California became more, and I need to
- 31:34Speaker 1: look at what's actually happening, but I would assume that
- 31:36Speaker 1: California got a lot more open to the Big Ten
- 31:39Speaker 1: in a way that Ohio didn't. did not get that
- 31:41Speaker 1: open to USC. But we're going to take a break
- 31:44Speaker 1: right fast. Coming up, we're going to talk a bit
- 31:46Speaker 1: more about the rivalry games coming up, one of which,
- 31:49Speaker 1: the one that Ryan Day probably should win. This show
- 31:54Speaker 1: is sponsored by BetterHelp. Shorter days don't have to be
- 31:57Speaker 1: so dismal. It's time to reach out and check in

- 33:35Speaker 1: we're back with Joel Anderson. I mean, Ryan didn't go
- 33:38Speaker 1: in this time, right? Ohio State is going to beat
- 33:42Speaker 1: Michigan this time, aren't they?
- 33:44Speaker 2: I think so. I mean, have you seen Michigan play
- 33:46Speaker 2: this year?
- 33:47Speaker 1: I have not seen them play this year. I mean,
- 33:50Speaker 1: they're not good from what I've been able to believe.
- 33:52Speaker 2: They're not an entertaining watch. You know what it is?
- 33:55Speaker 1: Even with that quarterback.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just not.
- 33:58Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like he hasn't developed in quite
- 34:01Speaker 3: the way I expected him to this year. And I'm
- 34:04Speaker 3: just like, well, maybe they don't have a great receiving core.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Right.
- 34:07Speaker 2: So that's a big that's a big part of it.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Like they had a freshman emerge recently, Andrew Marsh, but
- 34:11Speaker 3: they're still sort of limited on the edge. And so
- 34:14Speaker 3: it's like the big thing for them will be next year. Like,
- 34:16Speaker 3: all right, what does he look like? What does he
- 34:17Speaker 3: look that receiving corps look like? But they just I
- 34:21Speaker 3: don't I feel like they got to fight to get
- 34:24Speaker 3: to 21. And if Ohio State is in the right
- 34:27Speaker 3: frame of mind and Ryan Day is about his shit,
- 34:30Speaker 3: they should blow Michigan out.
- 34:31Speaker 2: But I stopped that last year too.
- 34:37Speaker 1: There's a big button and you cannot lie. There it
- 34:41Speaker 1: is right there. So I did not realize that Michigan
- 34:44Speaker 1: had gone nine and two so far this year, because
- 34:46Speaker 1: I just talked to Michigan fans and they are ready
- 34:48Speaker 1: to rush Ron Brown out of there. They, you know,
- 34:51Speaker 1: and this happens, but this often happens, but look, they're
- 34:54Speaker 1: nine and two. The losses have not been bad. Um,
- 34:59Speaker 1: I mean, the margins were not great, but the losses,
- 35:01Speaker 1: I would argue, have not been bad. I don't think
- 35:03Speaker 1: they've beaten too many people this year. I think that's
- 35:06Speaker 1: the argument to be had. And all of this is
- 35:08Speaker 1: why Ryan Day might want to make sure they go
- 35:10Speaker 1: out here into the big house and put up some numbers.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I mean, man, the thing is, though, so what do
- 35:17Speaker 3: you think? If he loses that game somehow, inexplicably, okay,
- 35:22Speaker 3: and then goes on and wins the national championship, I just,
- 35:27Speaker 3: I don't know, and I guess I would want to
- 35:29Speaker 3: hear from Ohio State fans how they would feel about that,
- 35:31Speaker 3: because I know it's frustrating to them.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Like, it's not, they don't feel the same.
- 35:35Speaker 1: They would much rather win that game than win a
- 35:37Speaker 1: national championship.
- 35:39Speaker 2: You think so, this year? For real?
- 35:41Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question.
- 35:42Speaker 2: This is serious.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Ohio State won a national championship in 1968. Yeah. They
- 35:49Speaker 1: did not win another national championship until 2002. Nobody criticizes
- 35:58Speaker 1: John Cooper for not winning a national championship. Nobody criticized
- 36:03Speaker 1: Earl Bruce for not winning a national championship. There is
- 36:07Speaker 1: credit given to Jim Trestle for winning a national championship.
- 36:10Speaker 1: But what Jim Trestle really gets credit for is beating
- 36:14Speaker 1: Michigan over and over. It is a that is a
- 36:17Speaker 1: one game job. But what is interesting about Ohio State
- 36:20Speaker 1: is I've always felt the people in charge are still
- 36:22Speaker 1: fairly reasonable people. And if you are doing OK at
- 36:25Speaker 1: the other stuff, you can keep your job while you
- 36:29Speaker 1: keep losing. So it's not like Ryan Dale get fired
- 36:31Speaker 1: if they lose to Michigan. Just telling you, the national
- 36:34Speaker 1: championship does not soothe that pain.
- 36:38Speaker 2: That's true. I guess you're right.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:40Speaker 3: I mean, the funny thing about it is that it
- 36:42Speaker 3: was I feel like this was a very recent memory
- 36:45Speaker 3: that people were getting sick of Jim Harbaugh because they
- 36:47Speaker 3: were underperforming and losing to Ohio State.
- 36:50Speaker 2: And Ryan Day only had like one or two of
- 36:52Speaker 2: those wins maybe over him. And so it kind of
- 36:56Speaker 2: flipped on him.
- 36:56Speaker 3: But I just like, I think if you have a
- 36:59Speaker 3: great coach, and maybe I'm talking about what I would
- 37:02Speaker 3: want to see in the world if I was Ohio State.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Because it feels like if I was an Ohio State fan,
- 37:05Speaker 3: I'd be really happy, man. My roster is so talented.
- 37:08Speaker 3: The season is not very dramatic.
- 37:11Speaker 1: We're great.
- 37:11Speaker 3: We're always playing. Like you said, we've got a one
- 37:14Speaker 3: or two game season. And we know we're going to
- 37:15Speaker 3: be good other than that.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Isn't that interesting? Don't you want to cherish that and
- 37:19Speaker 2: hold on to that for as long as you can?
- 37:21Speaker 1: Yes, but I think this is the disconnect. They don't
- 37:25Speaker 1: think the coach has anything to do with that. They
- 37:29Speaker 1: think that, and I think they're right.
- 37:32Speaker 2: They've got an argument.
- 37:33Speaker 1: We could get somebody else to do this. Their argument
- 37:38Speaker 1: is that it's not that hard to find a coach
- 37:41Speaker 1: to win at this rate at Ohio State. Now, while
- 37:43Speaker 1: they might be right, the counter argument is this. the
- 37:47Speaker 1: two coaches that they've had in the course of the
- 37:49Speaker 1: last 25 years who have done this are two of
- 37:53Speaker 1: the greatest coaches of all time. Yeah. Wait, like no,
- 37:56Speaker 1: no matter what it is we say about urban, urban
- 37:58Speaker 1: is a bad dude, man. Like, I mean, and urban
- 38:02Speaker 1: is a bad dude.
- 38:03Speaker 3: I mean, look, I was like, if LSU somehow just like,
- 38:06Speaker 3: fuck it, let's just get urban and they could convince them.
- 38:08Speaker 2: I would be scared.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I would be scared for like four years.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Yeah. For four years.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:13Speaker 1: After that, But like for four years, you're absolutely right.
- 38:18Speaker 1: And look, Trestle, Trestle got, Trestle, Trestle did work, man.
- 38:22Speaker 1: He did, man.
- 38:23Speaker 2: They were very good.
- 38:24Speaker 1: It's not my kind of, it ain't my kind of football. But,
- 38:27Speaker 1: but Trestle, Trestle did work. But no, they just think
- 38:30Speaker 1: we're just going to get somebody else. Like we don't
- 38:33Speaker 1: need you to get this done.
- 38:36Speaker 2: I suppose.
- 38:37Speaker 3: I mean, you know, Ohio State has better reason to
- 38:40Speaker 3: say that than anybody else in this country.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Like, even Oklahoma can't say that. No.
- 38:45Speaker 3: Ohio State, the only time I've really seen them not
- 38:47Speaker 3: be good in my lifetime was that year Luke Fickle
- 38:49Speaker 3: had them.
- 38:50Speaker 1: And even that year, there were circumstances. Yeah, there was
- 38:54Speaker 1: a drill prior to school.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Prior to coach. And all this happened in February. Right.
- 38:59Speaker 3: It was a mess of an offseason. And so they
- 39:02Speaker 3: really kind of punted on that year.
- 39:04Speaker 1: But, yeah, man. And then the next year they went undefeated. 12-0. 12-0.
- 39:07Speaker 2: So that's what I'm saying. Like, I just, I don't know, man.
- 39:14Speaker 3: I feel like Ohio State is going to win this
- 39:16Speaker 3: game and it's going to be right with the world
- 39:19Speaker 3: in order.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And then it'll be like, all right, man, Sharon, you
- 39:22Speaker 2: on the clock. Like, next year it'll be your black
- 39:25Speaker 2: ass on the line.
- 39:26Speaker 1: But what was your caveat? What was it? said all
- 39:30Speaker 1: this just a minute ago? Oh, yeah.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I thought that last year.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I thought that last year.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I thought it all last year.
- 39:35Speaker 1: And by the way, that national championship don't mean nothing
- 39:38Speaker 1: right now based on that.
- 39:41Speaker 3: That's a fair point. They say that they were not
- 39:43Speaker 3: going to fire him last year, right? If it had
- 39:46Speaker 3: only been a 14. No, I'm talking about Ohio State.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's the part I think.
- 39:51Speaker 2: People don't get. If it had been a 14 playoff,
- 39:52Speaker 2: they said they wouldn't fire him. But the feelings would
- 39:55Speaker 2: have been so hard.
- 39:56Speaker 1: No, that's the thing. They're not going to fire you.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Alabama doesn't fire you.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Yeah. You leave. That make you say you can't stay.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Not even make you say you say they don't
- 40:08Speaker 1: have to. I guess the the big you big thing
- 40:11Speaker 1: make you say it. But you look around yourself and
- 40:13Speaker 1: you're like, no, man, I just don't. I don't I
- 40:16Speaker 1: just don't think I want to do this. Like at
- 40:17Speaker 1: some point, Caleb DeBoer is going to look around and
- 40:19Speaker 1: just be like, no, like like if somehow he he
- 40:22Speaker 1: get his ass beat this week, which I don't think
- 40:24Speaker 1: is humanly possible. But I quit. I quit before I
- 40:27Speaker 1: got back to my car.
- 40:29Speaker 3: So there's two interesting things about this week. Did you
- 40:31Speaker 3: see there was a report, and I think it's called
- 40:32Speaker 3: the Center Times, reported that Kalen DeBoer is the top
- 40:37Speaker 3: target for Penn State?
- 40:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Every good job should call and see.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, hmm, that actually kind of makes sense.
- 40:46Speaker 1: It might be your lucky day. Well, I don't know
- 40:50Speaker 1: enough about Alabama, like if they got their money game right,
- 40:52Speaker 1: if they got the alignment that you need to do this.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Because if you don't, hey, man, you need to look around.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I mean, Nick Saban almost left for Texas, and Texas
- 41:02Speaker 1: blew it. They had it, right? And look, and everybody
- 41:06Speaker 1: talks about what a hassle that job is. And Nick
- 41:09Speaker 1: Saban looked at Alabama with all the winning that he
- 41:12Speaker 1: was doing. And was like, no, no. Hey, look, man.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Bear Bryant had one bad post-integration year. He quit his
- 41:21Speaker 1: job and died a month later.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Yeah, died a month later. I know, man.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Died a month later. But it is rivalry week.
- 41:27Speaker 1: We've talked a bit about these games. Lane turned out
- 41:29Speaker 1: to be a richer topic of discussion. But Texas, Texas
- 41:34Speaker 1: A & M play. Yeah, man. This appears to be
- 41:37Speaker 1: the best Texas A & M team of all time.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Wow. That's a, man, you know what?
- 41:45Speaker 1: I mean, it's actually not that long a list to discuss.
- 41:47Speaker 2: So, like, 91?
- 41:48Speaker 1: Here's the way I'm going to put it. You remember
- 41:51Speaker 1: that time A & M had a good offense and
- 41:52Speaker 1: a good defense? Because those Slocum teams were just all
- 41:57Speaker 1: wrecking crew, all defense. Bucky Richardson, Lance Pavlis, like, other
- 42:01Speaker 1: media quarterbacks.
- 42:02Speaker 2: But you know what it was? It was like, Dante Hall. Yeah,
- 42:05Speaker 2: they were.
- 42:07Speaker 1: But then they'd get to those cotton bowls against Notre
- 42:09Speaker 1: Dame or whoever it was, and they couldn't score no points. Like,
- 42:13Speaker 1: they were clearly a tier below. That's not the case
- 42:16Speaker 1: right now. Now, they almost got handled in that game
- 42:18Speaker 1: against South Carolina. Now, look, I don't root for Texas anymore,
- 42:22Speaker 1: but I'll hate A & M to the day I die.
- 42:24Speaker 1: And I don't really hate them. I just don't think
- 42:27Speaker 1: very much of them. That's a better way to put it.
- 42:29Speaker 2: You don't want to see them happy. It's kind of
- 42:30Speaker 2: funny to see them frustrated.
- 42:32Speaker 1: It's more than kind of, right? There's no way for
- 42:36Speaker 1: them to get back down to eight wins, which is
- 42:38Speaker 1: generally what the Texas A & M season is, is
- 42:40Speaker 1: eight wins. Keep in mind, a school that hasn't won
- 42:42Speaker 1: a conference championship since 1988. 1998, yes. Put some respect
- 42:44Speaker 1: on Chip Parker's name. Sorry, 1998. But a few things
- 42:46Speaker 1: brought me joy, like last.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Year, that game that they had been waiting 13 years for,
- 42:48Speaker 2: their opportunity to play.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And look, That's a game that Texas is not supposed
- 43:02Speaker 1: to have any chance at winning. It's the same way.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Bill Curry really got run out because he lost that
- 43:08Speaker 1: first game that they played in Auburn in like 50 years. Right, right.
- 43:12Speaker 1: There was no chance that Alabama was ever going to
- 43:15Speaker 1: win that game, right? Like there's just some games you're
- 43:17Speaker 1: not going to win. The environment is going to be
- 43:20Speaker 1: such that you have no chance of winning that game.
- 43:23Speaker 1: That's what that was. And for those who don't know,
- 43:25Speaker 1: They had historically played the Iron Bowl at Legion Field
- 43:28Speaker 1: in Birmingham, but that was really an Alabama home game
- 43:31Speaker 1: every year. And so for years, Auburn had fought, and
- 43:34Speaker 1: they finally got the game on campus for 1989. They've
- 43:37Speaker 1: been playing the game on campus basically since. They got
- 43:39Speaker 1: the game back for 1989. Alabama was not going to
- 43:42Speaker 1: win that game. Alabama went into that game 10-0. They
- 43:45Speaker 1: lost it 10-1. They lost the Sugar Bowl to the
- 43:47Speaker 1: national champion Miami Hurricanes 10-2. They basically ran Bill Curry
- 43:51Speaker 1: off his job immediately after, okay? I thought that they'd say,
- 43:55Speaker 1: no way Texas A & M can lose that game.
- 43:57Speaker 1: They haven't played this game since 2011. They've wanted this
- 43:59Speaker 1: game so bad. Self-esteem of that entire university is relative
- 44:02Speaker 1: to what it is, the University of Texas. And they lost.
- 44:05Speaker 1: And I don't even remember it being close. They just lost.
- 44:10Speaker 2: That was a good Texas team, though, man.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you, but you hear me, right?
- 44:16Speaker 2: Oh, I hear you.
- 44:17Speaker 1: So now the game is back at Austin. It's the
- 44:19Speaker 1: first time this game has been played in Austin in
- 44:21Speaker 1: 15 years, right? Texas still, look, they're not the team
- 44:27Speaker 1: people thought they were going to be.
- 44:29Speaker 2: No.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I would argue that Arch is much better than he
- 44:31Speaker 1: was to start the year.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 44:34Speaker 1: And they still got boys. Like, A & M should
- 44:38Speaker 1: win this game. And if A & M doesn't win
- 44:40Speaker 1: the game, they're probably still in the playoff. And it'll
- 44:42Speaker 1: be funny if they lose.
- 44:44Speaker 3: A & M is good, but they're not so good
- 44:47Speaker 3: that you look at them against Texas and say, oh,
- 44:49Speaker 3: they should be able to handle them. Like, they're going
- 44:50Speaker 3: to have to fight. Like, that is going to be
- 44:52Speaker 3: A very difficult game for them.
- 44:54Speaker 1: I mean, they almost lost to a bad team.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Also, I mean, the thing, the knock against A &
- 44:59Speaker 3: M and its conference schedule this year is that they
- 45:01Speaker 3: have not played any of the good teams. Like, they've
- 45:03Speaker 3: only played teams at the bottom half of the league
- 45:05Speaker 3: so far. So we don't know what it's going to
- 45:08Speaker 3: be like. I mean, I guess they did square up
- 45:10Speaker 3: against Notre Dame earlier in the year.
- 45:12Speaker 2: And really, I.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Mean, they got kind of lucky in that game, but
- 45:15Speaker 3: they squared up and Notre Dame looks like one of
- 45:17Speaker 3: the best teams in the country right now. So they should,
- 45:20Speaker 3: they've got a lot of talent, but it's just like, man,
- 45:22Speaker 3: even when Texas looks bad, you're still like, man, they've got,
- 45:25Speaker 3: you know, they still got talent on the defense. Like,
- 45:28Speaker 3: and you tell me about this. We haven't talked about
- 45:30Speaker 3: this with you. Texas has never had anybody like Colin
- 45:32Speaker 3: Simmons in my entire life. Colin Simmons is one-on-one for Texas.
- 45:36Speaker 3: They've never had that guy before, right? Anthony Hill is
- 45:41Speaker 3: really good. They've got a great secondary. They've got a
- 45:43Speaker 3: lot of talent over there.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 45:46Speaker 1: I'm just sitting here thinking about this because you're right. Like,
- 45:49Speaker 1: Simmons is... So you mean specifically from a defensive end?
- 45:54Speaker 2: Yeah, from a defensive end. Arakpo is the only... The closest... Sergio.
- 46:01Speaker 1: When they had Arakpo and Sergio at the same time,
- 46:04Speaker 1: it was.
- 46:05Speaker 2: They were nasty.
- 46:07Speaker 3: But I just feel like Colin Simmons is going to
- 46:10Speaker 3: be top five pick guy. He's going to be one
- 46:14Speaker 3: of those defensive end guys or one of those pass
- 46:16Speaker 3: rushers that the league is going to scoop up.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. Yeah, because I would say
- 46:21Speaker 1: just as a defensive player, right?
- 46:23Speaker 2: Yes.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Derrick Johnson is way high on the list.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Would Derrick Johnson change?
- 46:29Speaker 3: I feel like, again, before that, my image of Texas
- 46:33Speaker 3: linebackers were like Tommy Novus.
- 46:35Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 46:36Speaker 1: But it's also just a state that doesn't produce linebackers. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Like Derrick Johnson, the best linebacker in the state prior
- 46:45Speaker 1: to derrick johnson like when you put it all together
- 46:47Speaker 1: it's jesse armstead and there's a lot of years between
- 46:50Speaker 1: jesse armstead and derrick johnson and we don't really have
- 46:54Speaker 1: that much to talk about post derrick johnson it's just
- 46:56Speaker 1: a state that doesn't produce linebackers for whatever which seems
- 46:59Speaker 1: weird because it's a state that produces running backs.
- 47:01Speaker 3: So many great athletes yeah you would think i'm forgetting
- 47:04Speaker 3: somebody yeah i mean like the royland bradley's all those
- 47:06Speaker 3: guys like they were good in college but they just
- 47:08Speaker 3: never you know they didn't become the nfl guys we
- 47:10Speaker 3: expect mike singletary though h town legend that is true
- 47:13Speaker 3: you know um I just, my thing about them, though,
- 47:18Speaker 3: is that I just, I don't know, man. I think
- 47:21Speaker 3: Colin Simmons is just kind of a one-on-one, like not
- 47:23Speaker 3: Andre Wadsworth, but just like in the vision of all
- 47:26Speaker 3: the elite defensive ends we've ever seen before. The other
- 47:29Speaker 3: guy that I'm thinking of, too, on defense, though, that
- 47:32Speaker 3: you didn't mention, but I know you will, you will
- 47:33Speaker 3: remember when I say his name, Earl Thomas. Earl Thomas
- 47:36Speaker 3: was the kind of guy that Texas had never really
- 47:39Speaker 3: had before either.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Earl Thomas as Texas as Ed Reed.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you could say Earl is the, I'm trying to think, like,
- 47:45Speaker 1: better defensive players that Texas has had. Like, how far
- 47:49Speaker 1: do I need to go before Earl to get to
- 47:51Speaker 1: one as good as Earl? Because we're taking Arakpo off
- 47:55Speaker 1: the list, for example.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Okay.
- 47:56Speaker 1: I mean, I'm saying, but, like, I think Earl was
- 47:59Speaker 1: a better player than Arakpo was. And that's as a
- 48:02Speaker 1: redshirt sophomore. We only got two years of Earl playing there.
- 48:05Speaker 1: We're talking about Earl. Like, this list is like, we're
- 48:08Speaker 1: looking at Arakpo. Earl was a better player, I think,
- 48:11Speaker 1: than Sergio. Kendall was.
- 48:13Speaker 2: I mean, bro.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Earl was that dude.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 48:17Speaker 3: I mean, all the great Texas guys now have all
- 48:20Speaker 3: happened within our lifetime. And it's like a new thing because, again,
- 48:23Speaker 3: as we mentioned earlier, kind of the Ole Miss shit,
- 48:26Speaker 3: them guys went to A & M.
- 48:27Speaker 2: They went to Florida State. They went to Oklahoma.
- 48:30Speaker 1: They went to Miami.
- 48:31Speaker 3: They went to Miami. Yeah, Texas didn't get those guys.
- 48:34Speaker 3: And that's why I'm like, oh, Colin Simmons is the
- 48:36Speaker 3: kind of guy that we were growing up. it'd have
- 48:37Speaker 3: been like David Warren. Like he would have gone to
- 48:39Speaker 3: Miami or something like that. You know, I guess now.
- 48:43Speaker 2: You know, LSU.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it started turning interestingly with McAvick. And then Matt
- 48:48Speaker 1: Brown was just kind of like, hey, man, like, I can't,
- 48:52Speaker 1: I can't keep it. Stop asking me to keep answering
- 48:54Speaker 1: for them other white men. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, right.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. They let him into Dallas.
- 48:58Speaker 3: He talked his way into Dallas Carter, man.
- 49:00Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 49:02Speaker 1: Matt got game, boy.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Have you ever, have you ever been to an A &
- 49:05Speaker 2: M Texas game?
- 49:06Speaker 1: Oh, no, I have not been in either of those stadiums.
- 49:10Speaker 1: I remember I moved when I was 16. I haven't
- 49:12Speaker 1: been back in a long time.
- 49:14Speaker 2: Oh, dog.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Well, first of all, I'm not really trying to go
- 49:18Speaker 1: to Kyle's station ever.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Again.
- 49:20Speaker 3: I think you need to spend a Saturday in Kyle Field, man.
- 49:24Speaker 3: I really do. I've done it a few times, and
- 49:27Speaker 3: I was there in like 97. So that was the
- 49:31Speaker 3: last one before the bonfire, right?
- 49:33Speaker 2: The bonfire was in 99.
- 49:34Speaker 1: 99, okay. Yeah, so then that's right.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Because, let's see, the game the next year, 98, was
- 49:40Speaker 2: in Austin. Yeah. Okay.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Can you fight? Because if you can fight, we can go.
- 49:46Speaker 2: I don't know if I can fight anymore.
- 49:48Speaker 1: We're going to find out, I think.
- 49:50Speaker 2: You'll be okay.
- 49:51Speaker 3: You'll be okay. You'll be all right. Those are actually
- 49:55Speaker 3: your people. You know what I'm saying?
- 49:57Speaker 2: They right down the street from you. They are.
- 49:59Speaker 1: They really are. Look, man, my high school is a
- 50:01Speaker 1: Baruda White High School. Aggie War Hill was the... I'm
- 50:04Speaker 1: very familiar with the archetype, and it's interesting because I
- 50:06Speaker 1: don't dislike them. but you get them around a hundred
- 50:10Speaker 1: thousand others.
- 50:11Speaker 2: It's a, it's a, it's an interesting play.
- 50:13Speaker 3: I just think it's a, a very unique environment in
- 50:17Speaker 3: college football. And like, I mean, I don't know if this,
- 50:19Speaker 3: and people, A & M fans tell me if there's
- 50:21Speaker 3: still a thing, the stadium would shake, like the press box.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Would shake because of the, it's got a.
- 50:26Speaker 3: It's, It's got some pageantry, man. I think it's a
- 50:28Speaker 3: big part of it. And it's a good place to
- 50:30Speaker 3: watch a game. But Texas isn't quite the same, but
- 50:33Speaker 3: Texas is still a fun place. That game in and
- 50:35Speaker 3: of itself is something that you need.
- 50:37Speaker 2: To go to.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Well, look, you and I have talked about this. We've
- 50:39Speaker 1: talked about doing a Texas-Oklahoma. We've talked about doing a
- 50:42Speaker 1: Texas-Texas A & M. The difference between you and I,
- 50:44Speaker 1: of course, is you are married with children, so it's
- 50:46Speaker 1: a little more difficult for you to carve out space.
- 50:49Speaker 1: But come make it happen, big dog. I'm down. If
- 50:51Speaker 1: you're down to make it happen, I'll make it happen.
- 50:54Speaker 2: I want to do this.
- 50:55Speaker 3: I think I want to do the OU Texas thing, though.
- 50:58Speaker 1: That'll be easier because it doesn't interfere, have like a
- 51:01Speaker 1: holiday wrapped around it. Let's say we're going to do it, 2026.
- 51:04Speaker 1: People listening right now, let's go ahead and, you know,
- 51:07Speaker 1: because I'm saying, man, I'll do it.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Please believe that. I'll do it.
- 51:12Speaker 2: As long as I get enough heads up, I can
- 51:14Speaker 2: do it. And man, yeah, bro.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Yo, your heads up is 10 months. I'm saying right now.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Then I'm going to ask. Okay, I'm going to ask.
- 51:21Speaker 3: I'm going to ask. Have you been to the State
- 51:22Speaker 3: Fair in Texas?
- 51:24Speaker 1: I have. It's been a... I have been once. It's
- 51:26Speaker 1: been a very, very, very long time.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Oh, bro. Oh, so fine.
- 51:29Speaker 1: But you know what I hate as you just talk
- 51:30Speaker 1: about having to ask your wife if you can make.
- 51:32Speaker 2: This trip is.
- 51:34Speaker 1: No, I mean, no, because you're married. I mean, it's life.
- 51:36Speaker 2: I get it.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Like, I'm not saying that with judgment, but I admit
- 51:38Speaker 1: for us, we're not going to have time. Maybe we'll
- 51:40Speaker 1: try this another time to talk about... I'm going to
- 51:42Speaker 1: talk about this maybe tomorrow. I'm going to talk about
- 51:44Speaker 1: this on Monday. That is Newsy and Lizzo and dignity
- 51:49Speaker 1: and the distinct lack thereof.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Man, bro. Look, man.
- 51:56Speaker 3: I think with the lizard thing is that you can...
- 51:59Speaker 3: hate somebody so much and be so done with them
- 52:01Speaker 3: that you're just willing to humiliate yourself.
- 52:03Speaker 1: You're willing to burn yourself, set yourself on fire in
- 52:05Speaker 1: the same process.
- 52:06Speaker 3: I hate you so much that, yeah, right. I'm going
- 52:08Speaker 3: to shoot you and kill myself.
- 52:09Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 52:10Speaker 1: Look, I'm going to just drop this line right now
- 52:12Speaker 1: and maybe I'll drop it later when I talk about
- 52:14Speaker 1: it at another point if I talk about it at
- 52:15Speaker 1: another point. But I need everybody to understand this. I
- 52:17Speaker 1: can't remember if I said this in the chat or not.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Okay?
- 52:20Speaker 1: But fellas, that story about that time that your girl
- 52:24Speaker 1: cheated on you and you took her back and then
- 52:27Speaker 1: she cheated on you again. that story is not going
- 52:30Speaker 1: to play for you. There's no way that you can
- 52:35Speaker 1: dress this story up. There's nothing that you can put
- 52:38Speaker 1: in this story. And that's what this Ryan Lizard guy
- 52:40Speaker 1: does not understand. There's nothing that you can do to
- 52:43Speaker 1: the story about the time that your girl cheated on
- 52:46Speaker 1: you and you took her... women can perhaps tell that
- 52:49Speaker 1: story and be like man see they ain't shit right
- 52:52Speaker 1: yeah girl they ain't shit that's not especially not no
- 52:56Speaker 1: woman 20 something years younger than you bro this is
- 52:58Speaker 1: not this is not uh i'm not trying to judge
- 53:01Speaker 1: hold on the woman you left your wife and.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Kids well that's the thing like you're just not going
- 53:08Speaker 3: to be a sympathetic figure in the middle of all
- 53:11Speaker 3: this bro i mean it's I can imagine that this
- 53:13Speaker 3: is tremendously humiliating and that like to go through the
- 53:16Speaker 3: world with people knowing that about my life, that would
- 53:19Speaker 3: be really hurtful. But like, bro, you're just not the
- 53:21Speaker 3: person that people care about in this situation, man. Like
- 53:23Speaker 3: you just are not, like nobody did you wrong. Like
- 53:25Speaker 3: this is what you signed up for.
- 53:27Speaker 1: And so for people who don't know what happened, we'll
- 53:29Speaker 1: get through this right quick. Ryan Liz is a famous
- 53:32Speaker 1: political writer. This woman, Olivia Newsy, is a famous political writer.
- 53:35Speaker 1: They used to be together. A man left his wife
- 53:38Speaker 1: and kids for her. She is much younger than him.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Like 20 something years. Yeah. Anyway, she she's like early
- 53:43Speaker 1: 30s now.
- 53:44Speaker 2: But 31, 32.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Long and short, she had done a profile of Robert F.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Kennedy Jr. and fell in love with him. And her
- 53:53Speaker 1: man caught her. Yeah. Somehow, some way. And so she
- 53:56Speaker 1: got pulled off of she had to get pulled off
- 53:59Speaker 1: the covering election stuff because, you know, she had a relationship.
- 54:02Speaker 1: She said was not sexual. Not really the point. And
- 54:06Speaker 1: so she has written this book that talks about all
- 54:09Speaker 1: the stuff that she'd been doing. And now her ex-boyfriend
- 54:12Speaker 1: is now writing his stuff about the stuff that she
- 54:15Speaker 1: was doing. And it's just turning this big old messy
- 54:18Speaker 1: thing that also involves Keith Olbermann because she used to
- 54:20Speaker 1: date Keith Olbermann. And the dude Ryan Lizzo wrote in
- 54:23Speaker 1: his newsletter about how Olbermann had given her $ 15, 000 worth
- 54:26Speaker 1: of Cartier jewelry and Tom Ford dresses and everything else.
- 54:30Speaker 1: And my favorite part of this is Keith Olbermann being like, brother,
- 54:33Speaker 1: I was with her for four years and I was
- 54:34Speaker 1: making a lot of money. what you think I was
- 54:37Speaker 1: supposed to do, dog? He was like, it ain't tricking
- 54:41Speaker 1: if you got it, homeboy.
- 54:42Speaker 2: It ain't tricking if you got it, yeah.
- 54:43Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, I put her through school. Yeah, you
- 54:46Speaker 1: put her through all this. He was like, do you
- 54:47Speaker 1: know how rich I am? Do you understand what my
- 54:50Speaker 1: paper is?
- 54:51Speaker 2: Oh, he's like, you sound broke. That's me. You sound broke.
- 54:55Speaker 1: And I ain't gonna lie. My attitudes about spending on
- 54:57Speaker 1: women definitely changed. That's my pockets deal. Yeah, right. Right?
- 55:02Speaker 1: But he was just like, no, this is what it is. Like,
- 55:04Speaker 1: I can't. And this is true. After you get to
- 55:06Speaker 1: a certain point, there's some things you have to do.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You ain't got to do them all. But oh my God,
- 55:10Speaker 1: it was just so bad. But this dude has written
- 55:12Speaker 1: out all these stories and none of them make, they
- 55:14Speaker 1: all make him look like a first class sump. A
- 55:17Speaker 1: first class sump. And these other cats is like, I'd
- 55:19Speaker 1: rather be a trick than a sump. Yeah, man.
- 55:21Speaker 3: I mean, just makes you look like a sucker. But again, man,
- 55:23Speaker 3: love will make you do crazy things, man.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:26Speaker 3: You know, I think that I don't, you know, I
- 55:29Speaker 3: don't know the particulars here. I don't know these people.
- 55:32Speaker 3: I've never spoken to them before. But I imagine, man,
- 55:34Speaker 3: you know, you probably, again, this is kind of like
- 55:36Speaker 3: the Belichick situation. he probably never thought he was going
- 55:39Speaker 3: to see a young naked body again. And he got
- 55:41Speaker 3: to do it. And now it's hard to let it go.
- 55:43Speaker 3: So he's just like, all right, baby.
- 55:44Speaker 2: All right, come on home. I'll take you.
- 55:47Speaker 1: The only thing I would say about Belichick, though, is
- 55:49Speaker 1: Belichick seemed a whole lot happier with his woman than
- 55:51Speaker 1: this Ryan Lizard got seen with his.
- 55:52Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, man.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Hey, man, y'all say whatever you want about Bill Belichick, man.
- 55:55Speaker 1: The part I keep coming back to is I ain't
- 55:57Speaker 1: never seen this man look that happy. Oh, bro. I
- 55:59Speaker 1: keep telling you about when I saw him pull up
- 56:00Speaker 1: at that pop-up at the Super Bowl, you could tell
- 56:03Speaker 1: him he ain't had the baddest thing in the room
- 56:04Speaker 1: and Sierra was in that room. Look, bro.
- 56:08Speaker 3: They clowning him for going to that adult cheerleading competition thing.
- 56:11Speaker 2: He's exactly where he wants to be.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Yo, I was like, when I saw that, that's when
- 56:15Speaker 1: I was like, you got it, big dog.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 56:18Speaker 1: You got it. Like, that was really kind of you.
- 56:20Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 56:21Speaker 2: Oh, baby, I'm going to support you, man.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Like, I was like, like. It sound like
- 56:27Speaker 1: you're doing what you're supposed to do in this game? Yeah, man.
- 56:29Speaker 2: This is a relationship. This is her little activity.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I think that was the part that got me. It
- 56:34Speaker 1: was like, isn't that what you do?
- 56:36Speaker 2: Yeah. She goes to his games.
- 56:38Speaker 1: I thought that's what love was. And clearly this cheerleading
- 56:41Speaker 1: stuff is very important to her because she still does it.
- 56:44Speaker 2: I mean, man. I mean, you can't.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Cheerleading is a very involved activity. Like, you can't just, like,
- 56:49Speaker 3: fuck around and do it every night again.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw that, and my thought, honestly, was good
- 56:53Speaker 1: for them.
- 56:54Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Everybody just wants to just talk so bad about him.
- 56:56Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, man, this man looks really happy, and
- 57:00Speaker 1: she seems very capable of making her own decisions. Yes, look, bro.
- 57:04Speaker 1: She's capable of making her own decisions and some of his.
- 57:08Speaker 3: I can understand if his family is perturbed, and there's
- 57:11Speaker 3: reporting around that.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that.
- 57:13Speaker 3: But it's just kind of like Look, man, sometimes you
- 57:16Speaker 3: got to let people find out for their self, man.
- 57:18Speaker 3: You know, you're not going to talk him out of
- 57:20Speaker 3: loving her. He's going to have to fall out of
- 57:22Speaker 3: love with her.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right. That's Joel Anderson. Check him out
- 57:25Speaker 1: at the Ring of Tailgate. Check him out at the
- 57:27Speaker 1: Press Box. Or occasionally check him out on my show,
- 57:30Speaker 1: Hating On Me, In My Face.
- 57:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you started it. And so I think
- 57:36Speaker 3: everybody can see that again.
- 57:37Speaker 1: All I said, no, the only thing I said was
- 57:39Speaker 1: that you be hating. And then you immediately started hating.
- 57:42Speaker 1: That is not starting it.
- 57:45Speaker 2: I kind of feel like it is, but that's fine.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I called a hater a hater, and the hater started
- 57:50Speaker 1: hating it.
- 57:51Speaker 3: I'm just glad I could spend time with you, brother.
- 57:53Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? I'm proud of you, all
- 57:55Speaker 3: the work you've been doing. You've been doing a great
- 57:56Speaker 3: job this year. More shows for me to listen to.
- 57:58Speaker 3: I'm going to say things like that. You know what
- 58:01Speaker 3: I'm saying? What did my mother used to say about me?
- 58:03Speaker 3: Because she called me a contrarian as a kid. And
- 58:06Speaker 3: she'd be like, I'm going to redirect your energy.
- 58:08Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? So I'm redirecting your energy
- 58:10Speaker 2: right now.
- 58:10Speaker 1: I'm just going to say right quickly. When a mother
- 58:14Speaker 1: calls her child a contrarian, it's because he's too young
- 58:18Speaker 1: for her to say asshole.
- 58:19Speaker 2: In front of him.
- 58:21Speaker 3: I probably, I mean, I was, as my aunt said
- 58:23Speaker 3: to me when I told her that my son was
- 58:25Speaker 3: the freest Anderson that ever lived, she was like, well,
- 58:28Speaker 3: you were pretty free too.
- 58:30Speaker 2: And I was like, fair enough. Fair enough. I'm getting
- 58:33Speaker 2: it back.
