- 0:05Speaker 1: It's the Craig Wake Show with the voice of the
- 0:08Speaker 1: Texas Longhorns in Hall of Fame Broadcasting, Craig Way. Okay,
- 0:15Speaker 1: you've had quite a bit of basketball conversation there to
- 0:19Speaker 1: get you geared up for the home opener tonight for
- 0:23Speaker 1: Texas at Moody Center against Houston Christian. Back to football
- 0:25Speaker 1: we go now and the Longhorns getting ready for the
- 0:28Speaker 1: Florida Gators. This is something we do every week on
- 0:31Speaker 1: this program is we bring you an excerpt from the
- 0:35Speaker 1: prior evening's airing of Longhorn Weekly with Coach Sark. It's
- 0:40Speaker 1: the segment of the program where sark takes a look
- 0:43Speaker 1: at the opponent. So with that in mind, and of
- 0:47Speaker 1: course we record the program on Wednesday nights at six
- 0:51Speaker 1: o'clock at Pluckers the West Campus location, and it airs
- 0:55Speaker 1: Thursday nights at seven, and then on Friday, we bring
- 0:58Speaker 1: you one portion of that where Sark is taking a
- 1:01Speaker 1: look at the opponent. So here it is from last
- 1:03Speaker 1: night's airing Long warn Weekly conversation with long Worn head
- 1:07Speaker 1: coach Steve Sarkishan about the Florida Gators. This Florida Gator
- 1:10Speaker 1: team has really been kind of interesting to see. They
- 1:13Speaker 1: had some struggles early, they had some injuries early, then
- 1:16Speaker 1: they seem to get really tough over the past few weeks,
- 1:19Speaker 1: and even though they sustained another injury at quarterback, this
- 1:24Speaker 1: is proving to be what's looking like one of the
- 1:26Speaker 1: tougher teams of the SEC.
- 1:27Speaker 2: No question. I said this at the Monday press conference.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I think people kind of maybe chuckled at me. If
- 1:34Speaker 2: they all just lined up and every other team lined up,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you could argue this is the best looking team in
- 1:39Speaker 2: our conference. They are big, they are long, they're physical,
- 1:43Speaker 2: They've got playmakers on both sides of the ball. And
- 1:46Speaker 2: as I've been talking to the team about it, if
- 1:48Speaker 2: you just look at their last five games, they beat
- 1:52Speaker 2: the Breaks off of Mississippi State, they beat UCF, they
- 1:56Speaker 2: lose an overtime at Tennessee, who's number seven in the CFP.
- 2:02Speaker 2: They come back and beat the Brakes off at Kentucky,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and then they played Georgia last week and it's twenty
- 2:08Speaker 2: to twenty in the fourth quarter, was seven minutes to
- 2:10Speaker 2: go in the game. And so a ton of respect
- 2:13Speaker 2: for Billy Napier, their head coach. We worked together at
- 2:16Speaker 2: Alabama for a year in twenty sixteen. He's a great coach,
- 2:18Speaker 2: he's a good recruiter, and he's got these guys playing
- 2:21Speaker 2: good football right now.
- 2:22Speaker 1: One thing he has is he has a red shirt
- 2:25Speaker 1: freshman transfer out of an IVY League school playing quarterback
- 2:29Speaker 1: now Aiden Warner, who's from Winter Park, Florida, but he
- 2:33Speaker 1: transferred him from Yale. He kind of got thrust into
- 2:35Speaker 1: it in the second quarter when DJ Lagway, who I know,
- 2:38Speaker 1: you know really really well, the outstanding quarterback from Willis
- 2:41Speaker 1: who was playing and starting as a freshman before he
- 2:43Speaker 1: injured a hamstring and they don't know if he'll be
- 2:45Speaker 1: available or not on Saturday. But I know you were
- 2:47Speaker 1: impressed with what you saw from Warner. He didn't blink,
- 2:50Speaker 1: he really didn't.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And we all know about Georgia's defense, you know, and
- 2:54Speaker 2: so I commend him for standing there. But everything they do,
- 2:58Speaker 2: and this goes back to, you know, coach Napier's time
- 3:01Speaker 2: at Louisiana when we be coaching against them there too.
- 3:04Speaker 2: They run the football and they believe in running the football,
- 3:07Speaker 2: and they're they're runners, run hard. Montreal Johnson is gonna
- 3:12Speaker 2: run down hill. He's a physical player. They're massive on
- 3:15Speaker 2: the offensive line, they like big humans too. We're kind
- 3:18Speaker 2: of kind of from the same school of coaches. And
- 3:21Speaker 2: then what they what Billy does a great job of,
- 3:23Speaker 2: is once you start to over commit to that in
- 3:26Speaker 2: a certain way, then they attack you with the wheel routes,
- 3:28Speaker 2: the post routes, all those things down the field. And
- 3:30Speaker 2: they have more than capable players to go make those
- 3:33Speaker 2: plays down the field.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And they also have a really tough defensive unit.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Really good defensive football team. You know, they sustained a
- 3:39Speaker 2: couple injuries last week in the ball game at the
- 3:43Speaker 2: corner spot, so we'll see what happens. But everything they
- 3:46Speaker 2: do starts up front. They are massive on the defensive line,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and just to start with their nose tackle Desmond Watson
- 3:54Speaker 2: is six five, four hundred and forty nine pounds. It's
- 3:58Speaker 2: the biggest guy I've ever seen. But they're big across
- 4:00Speaker 2: the board, and all these guys are three hundred plus
- 4:03Speaker 2: on the interior defensive line, they're really long on the edges,
- 4:07Speaker 2: kind of built how we are, athletic linebackers, versatile secondary players.
- 4:13Speaker 2: So great challenge, you know, but that's that's why you coach.
- 4:16Speaker 2: That's the fun part.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned the limack Jamar James kind of is
- 4:20Speaker 1: the leader of that group back here.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He really is really athletic. He's a guy that plays
- 4:25Speaker 2: the game with the kind of his motors hot. He's
- 4:27Speaker 2: running hot. But next to him, I mean the gums
- 4:32Speaker 2: kid is this guy's six four, two fifty playing off
- 4:35Speaker 2: the ball linebacker. So it's a great challenge. I mean,
- 4:38Speaker 2: that's that's the beauty of it. And you know, people
- 4:40Speaker 2: talk about the Southeastern Conference and you want to talk
- 4:44Speaker 2: about the four of us that are in that kind
- 4:46Speaker 2: of top ten right now. Uh, but these guys are
- 4:48Speaker 2: a four or four football team, and I promise you
- 4:51Speaker 2: if they were in any other conference in the country
- 4:53Speaker 2: right now, they're probably at minimum six and two, if
- 4:55Speaker 2: not seven and one.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So there it is Longborns head coach Steve Sarkisian from
- 4:59Speaker 1: last night edition of Longhorn Weekly. And again you can
- 5:03Speaker 1: be there when we record the program on Wednesday nights
- 5:05Speaker 1: at six at Pluckers. We aer it Thursday, and then
- 5:07Speaker 1: of course we bring you the opponent segment on Friday.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We'll be back to wrap up the day and the
- 5:11Speaker 1: week here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone
- 5:14Speaker 1: of the iHeartRadio app.
