- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome back to another edition of Inside the Tape
- 0:13Speaker 1: on Inside the Birds, and of course, when it's Inside
- 0:15Speaker 1: the Tape, we bring in Greg Cosell to break down
- 0:18Speaker 1: the tape of the Eagles game against the Packers, a
- 0:21Speaker 1: ten to seven game. I'm Jeff Mosher alongside Adam Kaplan
- 0:25Speaker 1: and of course there's Greg and he's gonna break down
- 0:28Speaker 1: the defensive tape in part one, because we all read
- 0:31Speaker 1: the offensive tape might be a five minute show. The
- 0:34Speaker 1: defensive tape for both sides played some really good defense.
- 0:37Speaker 1: In Greg, I know we all thought it might be
- 0:40Speaker 1: kind of a.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Good game, a.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Gladiator like game between two teams. I didn't have ten
- 0:45Speaker 1: to seven on my bingo card.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I don't think anybody did, but I guess I'm glad
- 0:50Speaker 2: we're starting with the defense because the defense was a
- 0:52Speaker 2: fun watch and it was very, very good. And you
- 0:55Speaker 2: saw immediately the impact that Jalen Phillips made. You know,
- 0:58Speaker 2: we talked about that prior to the game, the fact
- 1:01Speaker 2: that I've always loved his tape, and boy did he
- 1:04Speaker 2: make a big impact and played almost eighty percent of
- 1:07Speaker 2: the snaps. It was. It was a really strong defensive performance.
- 1:14Speaker 1: What's stood out in general when you watch the tape
- 1:17Speaker 1: besides him, just in whether it was play calling on
- 1:20Speaker 1: defense or personnel usage, anything jump out to you.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I don't usually think about play calling a lot, you know,
- 1:26Speaker 2: maybe every once in a while, like for instance, you know,
- 1:29Speaker 2: with the two minute mark in the fourth quarter when
- 1:31Speaker 2: Fangio came with pressure and the five man pressure, because
- 1:34Speaker 2: it was not a pressure game at all, so clearly
- 1:36Speaker 2: he felt that that was a spot to do it.
- 1:38Speaker 2: So you notice that because it was not like the
- 1:41Speaker 2: rest of the game, So you notice things of that nature.
- 1:45Speaker 2: But you know, I tend to notice sort of bigger
- 1:47Speaker 2: picture stuff like this was a game where they played
- 1:50Speaker 2: significantly less man coverage than they had been playing. It
- 1:53Speaker 2: was a zone coverage game. They played a lot more
- 1:55Speaker 2: too high safety structures in this game, which I think
- 1:58Speaker 2: is what they really want to do. And you know,
- 2:02Speaker 2: as I said, they didn't blitz much, they didn't rush
- 2:04Speaker 2: five much at all, and they didn't even have that
- 2:06Speaker 2: many sim pressures. It was pretty much a four man
- 2:09Speaker 2: D line pass rush game, you know. So you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: those are the things I tend to notice. You guys
- 2:14Speaker 2: know me well enough to know I'm not big on
- 2:16Speaker 2: you know, play calls things like that, because you know,
- 2:19Speaker 2: you hit.
- 2:19Speaker 1: On what I meant, I really meant from from Vic's
- 2:22Speaker 1: strategy there. Yeah, I had read that he had the
- 2:25Speaker 1: the Eagles blitzed at less than ten percent. It was
- 2:27Speaker 1: the second lowest blitz percentg Yeah, any team in the league.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And yet they generated a pressure rate of about forty percent,
- 2:33Speaker 1: which is top ten. So to your point, yeah, you
- 2:36Speaker 1: bring in Jalen Phillips, you getting Nolan Smith back, you
- 2:38Speaker 1: get that four man rush going, and that's what the
- 2:41Speaker 1: type of game it.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Was, without question. And uh and and look, he knows
- 2:45Speaker 2: Jalen Phillips very well. You know, he coached him a
- 2:47Speaker 2: couple of years ago. And Jalen Phillips is a big
- 2:50Speaker 2: time talent. We discussed that, so I'm sure he felt
- 2:53Speaker 2: in this given game. You know, Zach tom was coming
- 2:55Speaker 2: off an injury. You know, they just felt that they
- 3:00Speaker 2: I'm sure, well, we know that's what he felt, because
- 3:02Speaker 2: that's what he did. So you know, they felt they
- 3:05Speaker 2: could get the four man pass rush working almost almost
- 3:08Speaker 2: like the Super Bowl in many ways. And well, I
- 3:12Speaker 2: wasn't as extreme as the super Bowl because the old
- 3:15Speaker 2: line is a little you know, it was better than
- 3:16Speaker 2: what the Chiefs put out there in the super Bowl,
- 3:18Speaker 2: it still was very effective. And again you notice that
- 3:22Speaker 2: the sort of their rotation in their nickel between Dean
- 3:24Speaker 2: and Campbell. You know, Campbell did play meaningful snaps in
- 3:27Speaker 2: the in the nickel as a stackbacker with Bond, so
- 3:31Speaker 2: did Dean. I think Dean's playing really good football. By
- 3:33Speaker 2: the way, I really like what I see from n
- 3:36Speaker 2: Kobe Dean, and I'm trying to think, who else you know,
- 3:40Speaker 2: really stood out.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Well.
- 3:43Speaker 2: The other thing that stood out to me is I
- 3:44Speaker 2: noticed and then I look, you know, normally I watched
- 3:47Speaker 2: the tape and then I look at you know, I
- 3:48Speaker 2: see things and then I go look at numbers. But
- 3:51Speaker 2: I was noticing Jordan Davis played the lowest percentage he
- 3:54Speaker 2: played all year, which again I'm sure I don't know.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Sometimes games, look, we know that Vic vangel is super intelligent. No,
- 4:02Speaker 2: it's way more about it than I do. But sometimes
- 4:04Speaker 2: games do get away from guys and you think, oh,
- 4:06Speaker 2: he's going to play x amount, and the game goes
- 4:07Speaker 2: a certain way and a guy just doesn't get out
- 4:09Speaker 2: there as much. So I don't know if that was
- 4:11Speaker 2: planned or if that's just the way the game kind
- 4:13Speaker 2: of played out by the way. The other thing that
- 4:15Speaker 2: really stood out is Jalen Carter started to look like
- 4:17Speaker 2: Jalen Carter. Oh good, And I think that that really
- 4:20Speaker 2: stood out. Yeah, I mean too bad in passes well,
- 4:24Speaker 2: just and he had some moves with his paget club
- 4:27Speaker 2: move and they stunted a lot. I'd really in the
- 4:31Speaker 2: in the the metrics, I have, the systems I have,
- 4:34Speaker 2: I don't have stunt numbers. I would I need. I
- 4:36Speaker 2: want to get that because I thought they stunted a lot.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And they did a lot of stunting with Phillips and Carter,
- 4:42Speaker 2: where more often than not, Carter was the first guy,
- 4:46Speaker 2: meaning you know, so it was it was a T
- 4:48Speaker 2: E stunt. Carter would be the penetrator and Phillips would
- 4:50Speaker 2: be the looper behind him. But they also did the
- 4:53Speaker 2: opposite where Phillips went first and it was an ET stunt.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Then when they lined up in what we call loaded fronts,
- 5:00Speaker 2: they did t T stunts inside. I just thought they
- 5:03Speaker 2: It seemed to me they stunted quite a bit in
- 5:05Speaker 2: this game.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Greg pre snap was Phillips mainly just an edge rusher.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Did they move him inside at all like.
- 5:10Speaker 2: They did once or twice in the game. He people
- 5:12Speaker 2: played inside, but he was pretty much IP four to
- 5:14Speaker 2: three d end.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Okay, hey, Adam, I feel pretty validated. We did our
- 5:18Speaker 1: self self scout by a week episode and we talked
- 5:20Speaker 1: about some things that Eagles could do defensively. One of
- 5:23Speaker 1: them we said was more stunting. We felt like the
- 5:26Speaker 1: addition of Jaalen Phillips, he gives you that ability and
- 5:28Speaker 1: Nolan Smith back. And second thing, I think there was
- 5:31Speaker 1: one snap maybe where Jalen Carter did wind up as
- 5:34Speaker 1: an edge rusher. It was not yeah, it was a
- 5:36Speaker 1: three man rush, and that's where Nolan Phillips did line
- 5:39Speaker 1: up inside, but not Nolan Phillips, Jalen Phillips, but he
- 5:41Speaker 1: dropped into a spy I believe, and it became a.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that was kind of surprise. You know. Phillips was
- 5:48Speaker 2: a you know from a stand up four eye alignment.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It was third eleven, early in the fourth quarter. He
- 5:53Speaker 2: became the spy. Carter and Graham were the edge rushers, right.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I may or may not have clipped that to take
- 5:58Speaker 1: a look at all.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Right, what one more before you get started? Did because
- 6:02Speaker 3: it was a tough watch, as you'd like to say,
- 6:04Speaker 3: with Jordan Love, it just seemed jittery. Was it the
- 6:06Speaker 3: Eagles think they got to him? What do you think
- 6:08Speaker 3: of kind of what happened to the Packers passing game
- 6:12Speaker 3: in this matchup?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Uh? I think Love up to this point has played
- 6:16Speaker 2: pretty well this season, and I thought in this game
- 6:20Speaker 2: and he was a little slow to process for whatever reason. Look,
- 6:25Speaker 2: the Eagles normally are not a big pass rush pressure
- 6:28Speaker 2: team in terms of quick wins and quick pressure. Probably
- 6:32Speaker 2: if you go back and look at all their sacks
- 6:34Speaker 2: this year, most of them would be from a coverage perspective,
- 6:38Speaker 2: and then they get secondary sacks, and I think they
- 6:41Speaker 2: did a really good job in coverage in this game.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I thought Love just didn't never felt like to me. Again,
- 6:46Speaker 2: I don't know what's in his head. I'm just telling
- 6:48Speaker 2: you what I think I saw on the tape. Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 2: I think he didn't get a clear picture a lot.
- 6:53Speaker 2: And then you get you know, you start to feel
- 6:56Speaker 2: the pressure because the internal clock starts to go off.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Sure, And I think that also gets sort of back
- 7:02Speaker 1: to the point where if you're allowed to play from
- 7:04Speaker 1: it too high and you can move a little bit
- 7:06Speaker 1: around on the back end and rely on the fore
- 7:09Speaker 1: man rush, which you know, I think for the most
- 7:11Speaker 1: part you could say the fore man rush if it
- 7:13Speaker 1: didn't get it collapse the pocket around Jordan seized him,
- 7:17Speaker 1: squeezed him, squeeze him, and then now he's got to
- 7:19Speaker 1: try to figure out where he wants to throw with
- 7:21Speaker 1: a changing picture and a pocket collapsing around him. That
- 7:24Speaker 1: that to me looked like sort of the Eagles defensive ale.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, And you know, and the other thing that
- 7:29Speaker 2: stood out. You know, Mitchell played boundary corner pretty much
- 7:32Speaker 2: every snap, and you know, Blanken Chip almost always plays
- 7:35Speaker 2: to the boundary and too high structures. And I'm sure
- 7:38Speaker 2: that's a function of range. You know, he's not range
- 7:41Speaker 2: would probably not be can be considered his best trait,
- 7:44Speaker 2: uh but you know, whereas mccoob is just a better athlete.
- 7:48Speaker 2: But uh no, So there were a lot of a
- 7:50Speaker 2: lot of good things about this defense. But I really,
- 7:54Speaker 2: you know, I really like the way to Kobe Dean's playing.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I mean, just to you know, he sees it and
- 7:59Speaker 2: he's got a really quick trigger, and he has this
- 8:03Speaker 2: knack and probably because he's always been, you know, not
- 8:05Speaker 2: the biggest guy, that's the way he's grown up playing
- 8:08Speaker 2: the game. But he's got this feel for avoiding blocks
- 8:11Speaker 2: without losing his gap integrity, and that's you know, it's
- 8:14Speaker 2: like shorter quarterbacks at some point they have to get
- 8:16Speaker 2: a feel for making throwers over taller guys. You know,
- 8:19Speaker 2: He's always not been the biggest stackbacker, so he's had
- 8:22Speaker 2: to develop a feel for being able to make plays
- 8:25Speaker 2: without losing his gap integrity, and he's good at that.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Heygard, do you think from what you just said about
- 8:31Speaker 1: Jordan Love and other quarterbacks who have been either under
- 8:34Speaker 1: pressure or seeing a changing picture, do you think that's
- 8:37Speaker 1: why quarterbacks have not been able to pick on adri
- 8:41Speaker 1: Jackson the way you would think, Because again, like Quinya Mitchell,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I think had three or four pass breakups, and I
- 8:46Speaker 1: don't think the ball came a Dori's way. Yeah, that
- 8:49Speaker 1: much as much as you would expect it.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm always surprised by that. I can't I'm being honest, Jeff,
- 8:55Speaker 2: I don't know the answer to that question. We talked
- 8:57Speaker 2: about that when Ringo was starting. Yea just didn't feel
- 9:00Speaker 2: like teams were going after ring though the way that
- 9:03Speaker 2: I'm sure the three of us and many others might
- 9:05Speaker 2: have expected it. Seems you know, earlier in the season,
- 9:09Speaker 2: it seemed like teams were going after Dori Jackson. We
- 9:12Speaker 2: certainly saw that Week one against Dallas, you know, which
- 9:15Speaker 2: seems like one hundred years ago now. But you know
- 9:19Speaker 2: that I'm being honest, that's a hard question for me
- 9:21Speaker 2: to answer. You know, I don't know the answer to that.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I think we're all just trying to figure out how
- 9:25Speaker 1: the Eagles getting a little lucky lucky here, or is
- 9:28Speaker 1: Vic just doing a great job of hiding him with
- 9:30Speaker 1: his skin.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Well, it's an odd look, I'm not being sarcastic, and
- 9:34Speaker 2: I think we would agree the Eagles are seven and
- 9:36Speaker 2: two on a team that quite frankly, has not run
- 9:40Speaker 2: the ball very well and has not thrown the ball
- 9:42Speaker 2: very well, and they're seven and two, and whatever that
- 9:47Speaker 2: is a tribute to is a good thing because right
- 9:49Speaker 2: now they have the best record in the NFC, and
- 9:51Speaker 2: barring anything crazy, I know they've got you know, some
- 9:54Speaker 2: tough games, but you know they also have to meet
- 9:56Speaker 2: some games that would be viewed as easier games. You know,
- 9:58Speaker 2: you never know in the league, but you know they're
- 10:01Speaker 2: in pretty prime position right now.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, last last thing real quick before we look
- 10:06Speaker 1: at the footage, Joemos stand out to you.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I thought, yes, yes, he stood out as well. I thought,
- 10:11Speaker 2: he's I think he's gradually improving. He had some really
- 10:15Speaker 2: good pass rushes, you know, some some strong reps. It was.
- 10:19Speaker 2: It was a really good defensive performance. I thought, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 2: just overall it was really solid. Look, the Packers came out,
- 10:26Speaker 2: they clearly wanted to run the ball, and they had
- 10:29Speaker 2: they had some success. I mean, look, running the ball
- 10:32Speaker 2: is one of those things you know. I guess Eagles
- 10:34Speaker 2: fans are used to from a year ago. They think
- 10:36Speaker 2: running the ball means, you know, Barkley's gonna run fifty
- 10:38Speaker 2: yards for a touchdown. But running success, if you're getting
- 10:40Speaker 2: five yards on first and ten, that's a.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Good play that's exposed to play.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, so, I mean, you know, I thought they
- 10:45Speaker 2: had some some early success running the ball, but you know,
- 10:51Speaker 2: it was not enough. I mean, at some point you
- 10:53Speaker 2: need the passing game to be a factor as well. Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family

- 12:58Speaker 1: and healthcare pros. And then Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and an experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 13:07Speaker 1: All right, let's take a look at some of the clips. Now,
- 13:10Speaker 1: this was an early play in the game. It's first possession,
- 13:13Speaker 1: second nine, and Jordan Love is going to get sacked
- 13:17Speaker 1: here by Jix Hunt. But this is our first kind
- 13:20Speaker 1: of indication of Jillen Phillips's impact.
- 13:24Speaker 2: This is the Phillips play, yes, because this resulted initially, actually,
- 13:28Speaker 2: it resulted initially from coverage to trips, which was cover two,
- 13:32Speaker 2: which is where Jordan Love looked. And then Phillips his
- 13:35Speaker 2: two hand speed to power rush versus the right tackle
- 13:38Speaker 2: Tom forced Love to move where Hunt cleaned up. That's
- 13:41Speaker 2: that's basically what happened on this play because you'll see
- 13:44Speaker 2: if you want to run at Jeff, you'll see Love
- 13:46Speaker 2: looks to his right. You know, within the structure right now,
- 13:50Speaker 2: it's not clear that nothing has really defined itself right now, correct,
- 13:54Speaker 2: you know, and you know he just doesn't want he's
- 13:58Speaker 2: not I think he wanted to throw the snag rout
- 14:00Speaker 2: and he just doesn't feel like that's a clean throw,
- 14:04Speaker 2: so you know, he turns the other way he wants to.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Now what he's doing is good quarterbacking. By the way,
- 14:09Speaker 2: he wants the backside dig to Watson because that's that's
- 14:13Speaker 2: normally that's what you get with trips, as you get
- 14:15Speaker 2: trips to one side and then you get a backside
- 14:17Speaker 2: dig that times out on the other side, and that's
- 14:19Speaker 2: where he's looking. And I don't know if he've viewsed
- 14:23Speaker 2: that it's open. But I think at that point he
- 14:25Speaker 2: starts to feel the pockets squeeze on him and feels
- 14:28Speaker 2: uncomfortable because of Phillips speed to power rush versus Tom.
- 14:32Speaker 2: And then so he moves and there's hunt to clean
- 14:35Speaker 2: it up.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I thought Quinnon had pretty good coverage on
- 14:39Speaker 1: that too. Yeah, backside dig. So that might have made
- 14:41Speaker 1: him think twice a little bit.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But you don't know what's in his head. But you know,
- 14:46Speaker 2: all we're doing is extrapolating from what we see. But
- 14:49Speaker 2: he's clearly looking right, and I, like I said, the
- 14:52Speaker 2: timing is such that the snag rout was the throw,
- 14:55Speaker 2: but he just I think Dean scared him a little bit, like, Yeah,
- 14:58Speaker 2: it looked like Dean might have been in his position
- 15:00Speaker 2: to make a play and he didn't want to throw it.
- 15:02Speaker 2: And then he did. Look, he did the right thing.
- 15:05Speaker 2: He look, you see him, he's looking to the day,
- 15:07Speaker 2: but it's not to find enough for him to turn
- 15:10Speaker 2: it loose. And all of a sudden, now the body
- 15:12Speaker 2: is you know, it's easy to sit here and stay
- 15:14Speaker 2: with a clicker. Oh that he should throw that, but
- 15:16Speaker 2: you know he can feel that he can feel that.
- 15:20Speaker 1: He can probably feel Jalen Phillips's hand on his chest
- 15:23Speaker 1: at that moment too, was he as he spun away
- 15:26Speaker 1: into the sack. That was a really nice You brought
- 15:29Speaker 1: up the point and Adham, you know, Greg brought this up.
- 15:31Speaker 1: We talked about it that Jalen Phillips, of all the
- 15:34Speaker 1: Eagles edge rushers, he has the prototype build, the body,
- 15:38Speaker 1: the strength, the long arm, direct, the height. You know,
- 15:41Speaker 1: the Eagles don't really have a guy like that that's
- 15:43Speaker 1: pro time. They're either light like Nolan Smith, Yeah, Brandon
- 15:46Speaker 1: Graham who's short, but really Barrel Jess.
- 15:48Speaker 3: You were talking about that weeks ago and he just
- 15:52Speaker 3: basically Josh Swett would have been that guy. And Phillips
- 15:55Speaker 3: is a better football player, no offensive Josh, He's been
- 15:56Speaker 3: a good stirring defense. Josh was that guy, right exactly.
- 16:00Speaker 3: But Philips is a better football player, correct, and he's
- 16:03Speaker 3: so much more explosive as a pass rusher. He's strong
- 16:05Speaker 3: as hell to he's long again.
- 16:07Speaker 2: He's startotypical. I mean last week when the trade was made,
- 16:11Speaker 2: I told you checked all the boxes.
- 16:13Speaker 1: He's pro ye ye, all right, This is a second
- 16:16Speaker 1: and seven. It's a run play on the next possession
- 16:19Speaker 1: for the Packers. Greg, I don't know if this one
- 16:21Speaker 1: stands out to you. It's just a run, but I
- 16:22Speaker 1: wanted to show a Jomo and a swim move that
- 16:25Speaker 1: he puts on the left guard here. Just immediate penetration, yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and cause disruption in the backfield. I thought he played well.
- 16:32Speaker 1: He did, And it looks like all of them are
- 16:36Speaker 1: using their armor.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I don't know they're in there. This is their base front.
- 16:39Speaker 2: You know where Campbell is in the game as an
- 16:42Speaker 2: edge player, so it's essentially a five you know, a
- 16:44Speaker 2: five to two front. And you know, Jomo does a
- 16:47Speaker 2: really nice job here, really nice job.
- 16:51Speaker 1: It feels like a lot of the guys up front
- 16:53Speaker 1: are using that arm over move that we've seen.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It's a good move. I mean it's not it's not
- 16:58Speaker 2: brand new. I mean it's been around forever. Oh no,
- 17:00Speaker 2: A good move.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, this is second and ten Phillips gets.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I thought I like this one because you may remember, Greg,
- 17:08Speaker 1: he peels off of the block on the right side
- 17:10Speaker 1: and then stops the running back in his tracks here.
- 17:13Speaker 1: But it's it's more about you know, driving him back.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Well, first of all, he does a phenomenal job here
- 17:20Speaker 2: because if I'm not mistaken, and again I don't know
- 17:23Speaker 2: all their rules, but he's the edge setter here because
- 17:27Speaker 2: you don't know that what the routes are going to be.
- 17:29Speaker 2: If both those guys to the to the right of
- 17:32Speaker 2: the tight end, because this is against the tight end,
- 17:35Speaker 2: I believe if both those wide receivers run vertical routes,
- 17:38Speaker 2: Degene has to you know, sinc And obviously Jackson's not,
- 17:42Speaker 2: and they set her, you know, so, so this is
- 17:44Speaker 2: classic setting the edge. Notice how he goes out, works outside.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Notice how he works outside right okay, and then squeezes, squeezes,
- 17:53Speaker 2: and then plays off contact and then it's a great life.
- 17:56Speaker 2: That's that's a great play. That's the way you teach it.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Those long arms, man, they really help size folk.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Look you just go back a little, Jeff, if you
- 18:06Speaker 2: can right, okay, we'll running. I'll see if we can
- 18:10Speaker 2: get it right, keep going, keep going right right there?
- 18:13Speaker 2: You see right there, how you work to the outside.
- 18:16Speaker 2: So that if is that Wilson or Jacobs might be worried. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 2: if that's if Wilson were to bounce that, Notice that
- 18:27Speaker 2: he's in position with his outside arm and with his
- 18:29Speaker 2: body position that he's in excellent position, so he can't
- 18:33Speaker 2: get outside of him right the right look at that.
- 18:37Speaker 2: That's perfect.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So he made the running back not be able to
- 18:40Speaker 1: hit the outside corner because because if he hits the outside,
- 18:43Speaker 1: he's got blockers.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Well yeah, I mean it may not be thirty yards,
- 18:47Speaker 2: but he's gonna have a decent run right there.
- 18:50Speaker 1: See color you go to turn it inside, And I
- 18:55Speaker 1: was I just think there's also a good ability for
- 18:57Speaker 1: lineman who can do that, but then get off the block,
- 19:00Speaker 1: not the run as well.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I mean he there were snaps wh we dominated the
- 19:03Speaker 2: tight end. I mean going back to the to the fumble.
- 19:05Speaker 2: You know, uh, he just shut You know, I know
- 19:08Speaker 2: a lot of people, you know, Jacobs made the common
- 19:10Speaker 2: they knew our play. That's wonderful. But the point is
- 19:13Speaker 2: most people know a lot of the plays in this league.
- 19:15Speaker 2: That's that's the kind of statement that goes viral. That
- 19:17Speaker 2: really means nothing. But but you know, if Musgrave made
- 19:20Speaker 2: the block on Phillips, that wouldn't happen. But Phillips just
- 19:23Speaker 2: shoved him literally right back, you know, I mean, just
- 19:26Speaker 2: ate him up. He just physically ate him.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Up, which we know the Packers are run reliant. They
- 19:31Speaker 1: want to be able to be ahead of the sticks.
- 19:33Speaker 1: They want to have nice you know, second and mediums.
- 19:35Speaker 1: But the very next play after that becomes third and eight.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And to your point, Greg, I mean just uncomfortab is
- 19:41Speaker 1: that's a stunt. No, they didn't stop. I thought they
- 19:42Speaker 1: were gonna stunt there. No, but great penetration again, right,
- 19:48Speaker 1: that's jo So Jomo gets the penetration. But Carter takes
- 19:52Speaker 1: on the double team and the bats the pass.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Right. But but but look at look at the club
- 19:57Speaker 2: move by by a Joemo here.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back at That's great. It's like a
- 20:02Speaker 1: double yere, right, they both use their club moves. Yep,
- 20:06Speaker 1: there's Carter's more of a slap. It's almost like a
- 20:11Speaker 1: synchronized slap. They both made them exactly really good stuff
- 20:16Speaker 1: right here. Yeah, drills them almost an interception. We're gonna
- 20:23Speaker 1: look at the sequence late in the second quarter where
- 20:25Speaker 1: Jordan Love gets sacked on the sim pressure. That's Nikobe Dean.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Going about at the end, and then and then with
- 20:30Speaker 2: the fumble.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And then the fumble. So this is the first one
- 20:33Speaker 1: to play in the sequence.
- 20:34Speaker 2: This is the sim So this is the four man
- 20:38Speaker 2: sim pressure with both Phillips and Baughn who was aligned
- 20:40Speaker 2: on the ball here dropping out, so being uh pressured
- 20:45Speaker 2: through the a gap and he forced Love to move
- 20:48Speaker 2: and then he you know, he looked to run where
- 20:50Speaker 2: Smith you know, cleaned up for the sack. So this
- 20:53Speaker 2: was really forced by Dean.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Right, and as people can see, it's coming out of
- 20:58Speaker 1: that too high structure that you talk about, Greg, which correct. Now,
- 21:05Speaker 1: I thought, what was impressive about this? It's just a
- 21:07Speaker 1: four man rush, and when we look at the other angle, Greg,
- 21:10Speaker 1: they picked it up. I think Dean just did a
- 21:12Speaker 1: Dean just beat the guard.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Dean actually got you know, beat half a man here.
- 21:16Speaker 2: He got inside of the guard banks and was able
- 21:19Speaker 2: just to run through him.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's not we've seen this blitz or this
- 21:23Speaker 1: sin before where yeah, it also a free rusher, but
- 21:26Speaker 1: this is a case where he just got inside of him.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 21:30Speaker 3: It's impressive. Yeah, he and we remember how good of it,
- 21:34Speaker 3: not that it was a blitz in particular, but we
- 21:36Speaker 3: remember how good of a blitzer in past rusher Dean
- 21:38Speaker 3: could be when he did it in college.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:40Speaker 2: So on the very next play, I think very next
- 21:43Speaker 2: play was the this was a five man preussure. Dean
- 21:46Speaker 2: was the fifth rusher. They went three under three deep
- 21:49Speaker 2: behind it. He blitzed from the second level. He kind
- 21:52Speaker 2: of ran through Jacobs. I don't know. I don't know
- 21:55Speaker 2: exactly what Jacobs was doing here. I don't know, he
- 21:57Speaker 2: didn't really square them up to block them, and it
- 21:59Speaker 2: looks he was trying to release. So I don't know
- 22:03Speaker 2: exactly what you know what Jacobs was doing, But the
- 22:05Speaker 2: point is Dean blitz ran through him. But I also thought,
- 22:09Speaker 2: and by the way, I failed to mention, I thought
- 22:10Speaker 2: ja Alex Suns had a very good game as well,
- 22:13Speaker 2: And here he had a one arm stab driving the
- 22:17Speaker 2: left tackle Walker. Sorry, Jeff, I know he's a pen stater.
- 22:21Speaker 2: He had a one armed stab on Walker, you know,
- 22:24Speaker 2: to push him right back into the pocket.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get a closer look at that right now.
- 22:30Speaker 1: By the way, I think this was just the second
- 22:33Speaker 1: true blitz five man rush that victor.
- 22:35Speaker 2: You only had four in the game, right, Yeah, there's
- 22:41Speaker 2: a five man pressure, So.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You're right, because I'm gonna just r It looked like
- 22:47Speaker 1: Jacobs first played the outside and then sort of got
- 22:50Speaker 1: himself off balanced, like he's playing.
- 22:51Speaker 2: The wide I think he was releasing, because don't forget
- 22:54Speaker 2: he was hadn't blitzed. I think he was releasing and
- 22:57Speaker 2: then saw at the corner of his eye Dean and
- 23:00Speaker 2: realize I can't let a free rusher at my quarterback.
- 23:03Speaker 2: But he didn't really block him with a whole lot
- 23:06Speaker 2: of I would never say desire. I don't know what's
- 23:08Speaker 2: in his head. That's not my point at all. He
- 23:10Speaker 2: kind of got in the way and then kind of
- 23:12Speaker 2: look and then now I don't know why the Dean
- 23:14Speaker 2: blew him. You know, it's hard to tell. But the
- 23:16Speaker 2: point is Dean ended up running through him there, but
- 23:20Speaker 2: everyone's in Jacob said, Dean ended up running through him. Yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 1: We've kind of had this criticism about se Quon Barclay
- 23:25Speaker 1: at times, like you're there, but you're not really providing
- 23:27Speaker 1: the obstruction yet.
- 23:28Speaker 2: So you know, I can't answer that.
- 23:31Speaker 3: And it's not how much you weigh, it's it's technique,
- 23:33Speaker 3: that's what.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Well, Dean's always going to be lower than most guys
- 23:37Speaker 2: that he's rushing again, that helps true, all right.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Greg, fourth quarter, So it's big because you know the
- 23:43Speaker 1: Packers have come back a little bit. Joe Jordan love
- 23:47Speaker 1: Is is going to try to make a play here
- 23:50Speaker 1: on third and eleven. This is the play where I
- 23:53Speaker 1: believe Phillips drops into us. You could see him already,
- 23:57Speaker 1: he's lined up as the four I and you can
- 23:59Speaker 1: see Jill and Carter is a cross right tackle.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yeah, this is where Carter and Graham were the edge rushers.
- 24:05Speaker 2: This was a case where you know, I really felt
- 24:08Speaker 2: like Love was just slow to process. He was then
- 24:10Speaker 2: forced out of the pocket where you know, Phillips as
- 24:13Speaker 2: a spy ran him down, resulting in the incompletion. Right.
- 24:16Speaker 1: So here you see Phillips drop. It's just a three
- 24:19Speaker 1: man rush. Is there an opportunity here to go right
- 24:22Speaker 1: after thirty where they're running the backs of the dig.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I mean to me, yeah, you know, I don't. Again,
- 24:30Speaker 2: I can't speak for what's in Love's head that I
- 24:33Speaker 2: can't speak to, but you know, I think there's a
- 24:37Speaker 2: throw here. Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I'm wondering if the receiver though, just needs to sit
- 24:40Speaker 1: down at the marker and then instead of drawing himself
- 24:43Speaker 1: into the coverage. I mean, when you.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Get into the anticipation element of playing quarterback, which normally
- 24:48Speaker 2: looks pretty good at by the way, yea, but you know,
- 24:51Speaker 2: for some reason. He It just it didn't process, didn't register,
- 24:54Speaker 2: and he held the ball because right now, I mean
- 24:58Speaker 2: he's in a clean pocket.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Yeah, we have dubs coming across, you know, on the
- 25:01Speaker 1: right side.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a there's a throw to be made here.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I agree, I agree.
- 25:07Speaker 2: And then he runs out and Phillips, I mean, look
- 25:10Speaker 2: at Phillips move for a guy. I mean he's six five,
- 25:13Speaker 2: two sixty five. I mean he's we're not talking about
- 25:15Speaker 2: like like like Adam said a few minutes ago, it's
- 25:18Speaker 2: not like Nolan Smith's size. You know, guy's a big man.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I feel like this video is completes
- 25:24Speaker 1: the trifecta. We saw him how good he was in
- 25:25Speaker 1: run defense and and you know, shedding a tackle and
- 25:28Speaker 1: making a stop. We saw him rush the passer, and
- 25:30Speaker 1: now we're seeing him drop into a spy and then
- 25:33Speaker 1: use that athleticism and run in his field. By the way,
- 25:35Speaker 1: he's got to get through traffic here.
- 25:36Speaker 3: It wasn't like it, Hey, Jeff, his effort if you
- 25:39Speaker 3: I mean, his effort this game, this is what this
- 25:42Speaker 3: is what you're gonna expect from him. Yeah, never been
- 25:44Speaker 3: about efforts.
- 25:44Speaker 1: It's been health right, just relentless thought it was awesome. Hey,
- 25:48Speaker 1: Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic, long lines,

- 26:46Speaker 1: one and up.
- 26:47Speaker 2: All right, Yeah, I thought it was a really strong
- 26:49Speaker 2: defensive performance as a team as well, but individual players
- 26:54Speaker 2: that I thought played well. So you know, look if
- 26:59Speaker 2: this def and starts to play at that level, you know,
- 27:03Speaker 2: everything changes. I mean, they're gonna have another test, which
- 27:05Speaker 2: we'll get into later in the week this Sunday night
- 27:07Speaker 2: against a very good team that that can both run
- 27:10Speaker 2: and throw. So we'll see how it plays out. But
- 27:15Speaker 2: this was a really strong effort. Greg.
- 27:18Speaker 1: That was my biggest takeaway after and we'll talk about this,
- 27:20Speaker 1: unin said birds this week. If this is the front
- 27:22Speaker 1: four they're gonna get type of rush, then it changes
- 27:25Speaker 1: everything for what the can do going forward to what
- 27:28Speaker 1: he had been doing in the first half, and it's
- 27:32Speaker 1: just going to play into his hands even more. Yeah,
- 27:34Speaker 1: that's what you're gonna get. Yeah, I mean.
- 27:36Speaker 2: You know, look, Jalen Phillips, he's just he's just a
- 27:41Speaker 2: really good player. I'd like to say, Greg, he's a man. Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I mean yeah, look, he's a guy great every week. Now.
- 27:47Speaker 2: You know, I don't want to get into those you know,
- 27:49Speaker 2: those are meaningless discussions to me. You know, It's like
- 27:53Speaker 2: when guys at the gym who I know well and
- 27:55Speaker 2: you know, love talking to me about ball say things like,
- 27:57Speaker 2: well is this guy for real? And I'm like, what
- 27:59Speaker 2: is that even mean? You know, what is not even
- 28:04Speaker 2: mean not real. Yeah, you know so. But but the
- 28:08Speaker 2: point is you're dealing Jeff, you nailed it. You're now
- 28:10Speaker 2: you're dealing with a guy that's a true big time
- 28:13Speaker 2: d n with the size, the length, everything you want.
- 28:17Speaker 2: I mean, you're not dealing with a little guy. You know. Look,
- 28:19Speaker 2: Nolan smith Is, you know, had a great last part
- 28:23Speaker 2: of last year, and the assumption is will continue to
- 28:25Speaker 2: get better now that he's healthy. But you know, he's
- 28:27Speaker 2: two hundred and thirty eight pounds. This guy's sixty five.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Two hundred and sixty five pounds.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yep.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Yeah, But by the way, how did Nolan look on
- 28:34Speaker 3: his and he didn't play a lot? How did he
- 28:35Speaker 3: look to you?
- 28:36Speaker 2: He played I think close to twenty snaps. I mean,
- 28:39Speaker 2: you know I would say that I didn't notice him,
- 28:42Speaker 2: to be honest with you one way. The other words,
- 28:44Speaker 2: a lot of the other guys I noticed. But that
- 28:46Speaker 2: doesn't mean he played badly at him. I just you know,
- 28:48Speaker 2: it just didn't he didn't pop to me.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Okay, all right, we'll buckle up for part two because
- 28:55Speaker 1: we're actually obligated to talk about the offense and go
- 28:59Speaker 1: through the tape. I'm sorry, Greg, I know your eyes hurt,
- 29:01Speaker 1: but we're gonna do that in part two. But this
- 29:03Speaker 1: has been a fun Part one looking at the Eagles
- 29:06Speaker 1: defense on Inside the Tape with Greg Cosell For Greg
- 29:09Speaker 1: Coseell and Adam Kaplan, I'm Jeff Mosher. Catch you all
- 29:12Speaker 1: on Part two.
