- 0:29What's going on, everybody?
- 0:30Are you ready and fired up for some
- 0:34Sunday, Sunday,
- 0:35Sunday night CrossFit talk?
- 0:39Karen Oprevo, Jamie Latimer,
- 0:40and myself are here to talk about all
- 0:42the news in the CrossFit space and
- 0:44everything kind of going on around it.
- 0:47It's been kind of a dud of a
- 0:49week for some news.
- 0:51We got a couple things,
- 0:53so we're going to talk about those.
- 0:54And then we're going to turn it over
- 0:55to you guys to talk about whatever you
- 0:57guys want to.
- 0:59And we'll wrap it up with that.
- 1:01But I get to come in tonight on
- 1:04a victory,
- 1:05which for a Penn state and Chicago bears
- 1:08fan is very rare.
- 1:09Yeah.
- 1:12Uh,
- 1:12but thank goodness for a blocked field
- 1:14goal, um,
- 1:16from Josh Blackwell at the very end of
- 1:18the game to seal the victory.
- 1:22And in a game that we did not
- 1:24play to the best of our ability,
- 1:26we ended up coming out with a victory.
- 1:29That's good.
- 1:31Yeah, Lions too.
- 1:32I have a question to ask you, though.
- 1:33Okay.
- 1:34How much grief is Ben Johnson going to
- 1:36get?
- 1:36Did you see his halftime interview?
- 1:38I did not.
- 1:40So the interviewer said,
- 1:41do you guys need to change in the
- 1:45second half?
- 1:47And he said, what do you think?
- 1:54He's pretty curt.
- 1:56That's just the way he is.
- 1:57Yeah, he is.
- 1:59I've noticed that.
- 2:00Yeah.
- 2:00Part of me likes it,
- 2:01like in the press conferences with the
- 2:03local media,
- 2:04because they ask the same questions over
- 2:06and over again, right?
- 2:08So I kind of like it there.
- 2:09Not sure it was the best look on
- 2:11national TV coming out of halftime.
- 2:15Yeah.
- 2:15I feel like he did it,
- 2:16was it last week too?
- 2:17It's a very similar.
- 2:20I know one week he skipped it altogether.
- 2:24Like he didn't even do the halftime
- 2:26interview.
- 2:27So,
- 2:28but he's been with the lions for years
- 2:31and now this is his first year with
- 2:32the bears.
- 2:33So I just have,
- 2:34did you've seen that in him before?
- 2:37I don't know.
- 2:38I don't know that I noticed.
- 2:39I mean, I,
- 2:40I don't know that I even like pay
- 2:42attention to if he even would speak,
- 2:44you get, you get Dan and Dan's like,
- 2:48you know, he'll rile you up.
- 2:50Like he's, I don't know.
- 2:52We're going to bite some ankles and
- 2:53kneecap.
- 2:53Yeah.
- 2:58Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:00He is an interesting fellow.
- 3:03I mean, he's got one singular focus.
- 3:06I don't think he has time to chit-chat.
- 3:08That is the role, though,
- 3:10of the head coach.
- 3:11Like,
- 3:11he needs to probably learn that a little
- 3:13bit.
- 3:14He's been great, like, all season.
- 3:16And it's just been in the last couple
- 3:18weeks he kind of gets curt with the
- 3:19local media,
- 3:20and now it seems to be carrying over
- 3:21to the national media.
- 3:24And so it's just interesting, but...
- 3:26On a different note, not football,
- 3:27I do have a question for Carolyn.
- 3:31So you know I'm a big-time Pittsburgh
- 3:32Penguins fan.
- 3:34Fleury?
- 3:35Yes.
- 3:36So Marc-Andre Fleury was their goalkeeper
- 3:39the last time they won the Stanley Cup.
- 3:42And he retired,
- 3:44and then he went to Vegas,
- 3:46played for them.
- 3:47I think he won a cup in Vegas,
- 3:50and then he finished his career in
- 3:51Florida, and I think won another cup.
- 3:54He played for Minnesota.
- 3:56He played for Chicago, I think.
- 3:58He went around after for many teams.
- 4:01So this weekend,
- 4:02the Penguins brought him back on a one-day
- 4:04contract and let him play in a preseason
- 4:07game so he could say goodbye to the
- 4:09Pittsburgh fans.
- 4:10Is that typical for hockey?
- 4:15He is one of the most popular players
- 4:18online.
- 4:20um, like in the national hockey league.
- 4:22And like, he was like in Pittsburgh, like,
- 4:24I don't even know how many years,
- 4:26like he was there forever.
- 4:30Yeah.
- 4:30Forever.
- 4:31I mean, it's, it's almost like, you know,
- 4:34allowing, um,
- 4:36a NBA player to come back to the
- 4:37hometown like Kyle Lowry always says that
- 4:40he wants to retire Toronto Raptor like
- 4:42it's like they come back for you know
- 4:44a day contract or something like that I
- 4:46feel like it happens in a lot of
- 4:47sports in general when you have a team
- 4:50that just says taking you in and you
- 4:53know you you sign that one day contract
- 4:55just to retire there
- 4:58Yeah,
- 4:59I get I've seen that in football a
- 5:00lot.
- 5:01Like it's ceremonious.
- 5:02They signed the one day contract,
- 5:04but he actually took the ice like he
- 5:06went out and went in goal for a
- 5:09preseason game and played.
- 5:11Well, he's a good goalie.
- 5:12He's my favorite goalie.
- 5:13Yeah,
- 5:16I it was just it's something I'd never
- 5:18seen before,
- 5:19but I did think it was extremely cool.
- 5:22Because they put him in the third period.
- 5:24So it was the end of his preseason.
- 5:26So he's not taking a spot away from
- 5:28anybody.
- 5:29And the fans got to give him a
- 5:30standing ovation, and it was really cool.
- 5:33I like him a lot.
- 5:34And he's always pranking a couple of his
- 5:37teammates specifically.
- 5:38Like Sidney Crosby,
- 5:39they do pranks back and forth.
- 5:40And he put stickers in his .
- 5:43. .
- 5:46on Sydney's car this weekend.
- 5:48And yeah,
- 5:48he made sure that if he came back,
- 5:50the pranks were continuing.
- 5:52So I love it.
- 5:53I love it for him though.
- 5:55I think if there's a player that deserves
- 5:58to just, you know,
- 5:59end somewhere and just end it the right
- 6:01way, it's,
- 6:02he's one of those players that comes to
- 6:03mind.
- 6:04Like he, he's a great guy.
- 6:06Yeah.
- 6:08So, um,
- 6:08before we get into the CrossFit stuff, uh,
- 6:11Jamie, your hip.
- 6:14What I didn't realize till after,
- 6:16after last week show is how serious this
- 6:19surgery is.
- 6:21Like your recovery is six months.
- 6:23It's not a six week, eight week thing.
- 6:26No.
- 6:26Yeah.
- 6:27It's so it may be like,
- 6:30I don't know how to say it.
- 6:31It's like less invasive than a total hip
- 6:35replacement,
- 6:35but the healing is slower than if I
- 6:38would have just gotten a total hip
- 6:39replacement placement.
- 6:40Um,
- 6:43Just probably, I don't know.
- 6:44Yeah.
- 6:44He said like nine months to a year.
- 6:47So are you basically out for the next
- 6:48year or can you even,
- 6:50or do you think you can do parts
- 6:51of the open?
- 6:52Like, yeah, that'll be very questionable.
- 6:56Um, possibly if it's light, it's possible.
- 7:01I mean,
- 7:01I don't know that we'll know until I
- 7:03don't even know that I'll be able to
- 7:04do stuff to like four months.
- 7:05So I don't even know where I'll be
- 7:08at at that point.
- 7:09Right.
- 7:09Like, um,
- 7:13I don't know.
- 7:13Try not to think that far down the
- 7:14road.
- 7:15And really like you need to do what's
- 7:17right for your body for longevity.
- 7:19Like if this has been bothering you since
- 7:20literally like ten years ago.
- 7:23Exactly.
- 7:23You have to find some time to get
- 7:25it done.
- 7:26Right.
- 7:27And if I'm thinking about the open right
- 7:29now, I'm probably pushing things too soon.
- 7:32Like that's just not even my thought
- 7:35process.
- 7:36Like we'll just take a week at a
- 7:38time and see where I'm at in PT.
- 7:40And I have my follow-up Friday.
- 7:43So this coming Friday with the surgeon.
- 7:47So we'll see where,
- 7:49how are you walking like with help at
- 7:52all right now?
- 7:53Or like at what stage of this recovery
- 7:55are you?
- 7:57um i have to have crutches okay so
- 7:58because i like that's the slow part is
- 8:03like letting the labrum heal not putting
- 8:05too much weight on the leg or it
- 8:07won't heal um and they shave the bone
- 8:10down so like all that like i don't
- 8:12know it has to heal over um so
- 8:17Yeah.
- 8:17I think just like keeping weight off of
- 8:21it, um,
- 8:22is like the priority four to six weeks
- 8:25of crutches.
- 8:26Um, I'm, it's hard though.
- 8:29Like I, I don't know.
- 8:33I probably moved too fast on my crutches.
- 8:34I don't know.
- 8:35I've never been trained on crutches,
- 8:36so I don't even know that I'm doing
- 8:37them right.
- 8:38And I'm like worried.
- 8:39And yes,
- 8:40I probably will need to do the other
- 8:41hip Denise.
- 8:42Um,
- 8:44and i worry right now with the way
- 8:46i'm like using the one side it's cause
- 8:48it's problematic and i don't like that
- 8:50like i don't like like i've had the
- 8:53compensation patterns like my left knee
- 8:54was bothering me because of my right hip
- 8:56and like i don't want to cause more
- 8:58issues on one side for these next three
- 9:00four weeks while i'm gimping around like
- 9:03trying to avoid that but it's hard yeah
- 9:09let me let me ask you this question
- 9:11as a competitor
- 9:13is it easier to give up a season
- 9:17for your future health as a master's
- 9:19athlete, knowing the timeframe is forever,
- 9:24then it would be an elite athlete where
- 9:26you have like a ticking clock where you
- 9:28only have so many years to compete in
- 9:30that division.
- 9:32Sure.
- 9:33I mean, I'm sure.
- 9:33Yeah.
- 9:34If I was.
- 9:35Or when at and like, yeah, that'd be,
- 9:40it would be really hard.
- 9:42Um,
- 9:43Yeah, it is what it is.
- 9:44If it, you know,
- 9:45if I can't come back for a couple
- 9:47of years and then I, you know, whatever,
- 9:50I take crack at it when I turned
- 9:51for forty five.
- 9:54Yeah,
- 9:54it is nice knowing that like the Masters
- 9:57is around.
- 9:57Well, as much as it is around,
- 10:00you know,
- 10:01things change and it's like frustrating to
- 10:02watch.
- 10:03I'm trying to not really even like dive
- 10:05too much into like what's happening with
- 10:07the season because it's like, oh, great.
- 10:08There's going to be an in-person one.
- 10:10That's what I've been wanting.
- 10:11And I probably can't even go do it
- 10:12like.
- 10:13And it probably won't go well,
- 10:14so then we won't have it next year
- 10:15when I can come back.
- 10:16So it's just like,
- 10:18it is what it is.
- 10:21Well, it's got to go well.
- 10:23Because it's the right thing to do.
- 10:24Yeah.
- 10:25So it should be back.
- 10:28J-Snap, what was your surgery exactly?
- 10:33So FAI.
- 10:35it's a femoral acetabular impingement um
- 10:39so he they did a femoroplasty and a
- 10:42acetabularplasty and the labrum
- 10:46reconstruction there's like three or four
- 10:48anchors in there uh no trish she just
- 10:52plays a doctor on tv it's just my
- 10:55headphone old school headphones
- 11:00I've learned doing this podcast thing.
- 11:01It's better to be wired in than to
- 11:04be wireless.
- 11:04Yeah.
- 11:05Because like I have my wire too.
- 11:12It never runs out of battery.
- 11:13Right.
- 11:15Exactly.
- 11:17So, and the other thing about your,
- 11:19your situation is you're in the third year
- 11:22of your division anyway, right?
- 11:23Like,
- 11:23so it's not like you're in the first
- 11:26year in with your best shot, right?
- 11:30Although you did just as well.
- 11:34Yeah.
- 11:35And I feel like I would have done
- 11:36really,
- 11:37I think I would have done really well
- 11:38when I was.
- 11:38Yeah, I do.
- 11:39I agree.
- 11:42So I don't know.
- 11:45I try not to look at,
- 11:46look at it like that per se,
- 11:47but yeah, I get what you're saying.
- 11:48Like that I'm getting towards the end of
- 11:50this one.
- 11:50So it is what it is.
- 11:52Yeah.
- 11:53But Jason grub one at forty nine.
- 11:54So exactly.
- 11:59I found that when I came back from
- 12:01surgery,
- 12:01I was stronger than before the surgery in
- 12:03many, many ways.
- 12:05Yeah, that's the hope.
- 12:06I mean,
- 12:06that's kind of been the thing for years.
- 12:09Like everyone is just like, well,
- 12:11if you could just get stronger,
- 12:13what do you think I do?
- 12:14Do you like, I mean, I,
- 12:15I don't know if people just think I
- 12:17like Haley and just do Metcons and run
- 12:19and run and that's all I ever did
- 12:21and never tried to get stronger.
- 12:23I mean, I would do,
- 12:25I would squat three, four times a week.
- 12:27And maybe that was the issue is like,
- 12:28I was just chasing,
- 12:29trying to get stronger and squatting in
- 12:31particular is what like would kill my
- 12:34back.
- 12:34And I would just be like hung up
- 12:36for three days after,
- 12:38after a squat session.
- 12:40But yeah, I just, I wasn't making,
- 12:43I'm not, I'm not making strength gains.
- 12:45I'm not making progress.
- 12:48I just hurt myself all the time.
- 12:52I wonder if it's because recovery allows
- 12:53the body to fully rest.
- 12:55And that's something that Jamie never
- 12:57does.
- 12:59Never.
- 13:00And neither does Carolyn.
- 13:02But Carolyn does it on a managed schedule,
- 13:06I think.
- 13:07I mean, I rest twice a week.
- 13:10That's true.
- 13:11I take two full rest days.
- 13:14And sometimes, honestly,
- 13:15three rest days in my week,
- 13:16depends how busy I am.
- 13:18Sometimes I might do Sunday and Monday
- 13:19off.
- 13:21Whatever I feel like.
- 13:23I usually take Thursdays off and then
- 13:29Sundays, whatever.
- 13:29Shanna,
- 13:29all the PT and core work I did
- 13:31helped in so many ways.
- 13:34There's a lot to be said.
- 13:35Like when I first started CrossFit,
- 13:37we would have like days where we just
- 13:39worked on like the small muscle stuff,
- 13:42like the core and the imbalance and
- 13:45different things like that,
- 13:46where we didn't really focus on a Metcon
- 13:48that day.
- 13:49And some of those days were harder than
- 13:51doing a twenty minute Metcon.
- 14:01Jeff Baker, rest when you're dead,
- 14:03am I right?
- 14:09um so seated strict press i can power
- 14:16snatch easy anything i can strict press
- 14:18cheat code yeah i'm doing a lot of
- 14:22upper body bench press shirt press
- 14:24dumbbell just yeah uh there are so many
- 14:30things you to work on in recovery you
- 14:32can do all ten arm and core stuff
- 14:36uh build yourself back from ground up
- 14:40yep i do core every day i mean
- 14:44as much i can't like really do anything
- 14:46but i just basically do miguel curl ups
- 14:48and hold that's one that's one of the
- 14:50pt exercises i'm doing right now um
- 14:56Well, we're with you the whole way.
- 14:58We'll follow the journey.
- 15:00And it's gonna be a great test of
- 15:04the sickness, wellness, fitness continuum.
- 15:11You're clear over here,
- 15:13so maybe the surgery won't take you all
- 15:15the way back and you can get through
- 15:17it faster,
- 15:17but hopefully we'll be patient along the
- 15:20way as well.
- 15:22Yeah, I'm trying.
- 15:26Um, and Denise says,
- 15:27look at those guns already and live at
- 15:30the eighty-five percent on those.
- 15:33You will see gains.
- 15:35And my strict, yeah.
- 15:37Strict press spent for our stuff.
- 15:38Yeah.
- 15:39Yeah.
- 15:41so um the last thing i wanted to
- 15:43say is fantasy football wise i saw andrew
- 15:46stent is going to be at oh and
- 15:47four thankfully carolyn doesn't know how
- 15:51to use the app yet uh jamie was
- 15:53training her tonight and i played carolyn
- 15:56this weekend so i might be getting my
- 15:58first win yeah because apparently i kept
- 16:00two players that were injured so that's
- 16:02great that's great in the starting lineup
- 16:05yeah you don't want that
- 16:07But I had to deal with a week
- 16:08of Jeff Baco in every chat telling
- 16:11everybody that he beat me.
- 16:13I know.
- 16:14Every chat in every podcast.
- 16:18I know.
- 16:19I wasn't that far behind him.
- 16:20I was only like five points behind him
- 16:22for overall points.
- 16:23We're tied on the leaderboard.
- 16:27Andrew Sten sat Ashton Gentry,
- 16:29who I think had four billion yards rushing
- 16:32today.
- 16:33Oh, that sucks.
- 16:35At what point in the week do I
- 16:36have to make my changes?
- 16:38Is it before Thursday?
- 16:39Because there's like,
- 16:40is it Wednesday or in the morning,
- 16:42Thursday, anytime before the first game?
- 16:45So it all depends on if your players
- 16:47are playing in that game.
- 16:49Once that position plays,
- 16:52you cannot move either the bench player or
- 16:54the active player.
- 16:56If their team played has started the game.
- 16:59Once the game starts.
- 17:01So there's Thursday night.
- 17:03Right.
- 17:04So technically,
- 17:04if you had nobody playing on Thursday,
- 17:07you can change it all the way up
- 17:08to Sunday at noon or one o'clock.
- 17:16But it evolves depending on when they
- 17:19play.
- 17:21So maybe you'll pay more attention.
- 17:26Well,
- 17:26the first thing I wanted to talk about
- 17:27tonight is a little self-promotion for the
- 17:32show.
- 17:33And that is the service cup went on
- 17:36last weekend and the results were posted
- 17:40and first place in the educator division.
- 17:43No surprise is Carolyn Prevo.
- 17:50Congratulations.
- 17:51Thank you.
- 17:53How many times is this as a winner
- 17:55of fittest teacher?
- 17:59I think well back then they didn't have
- 18:03like they didn't continue it like it would
- 18:04just be kind of in the open that
- 18:06they would do it um but like when
- 18:10I've done an extra thing I think maybe
- 18:13third or fourth time at least yeah so
- 18:19who's the male counterpart the male
- 18:23counterpart is Jacob Mason
- 18:27Much closer battle on the men's side.
- 18:29Will Carter,
- 18:31he went to the games before on a
- 18:32team.
- 18:33Okay.
- 18:36But they were only, uh,
- 18:38eleven points apart.
- 18:40Where Carolyn Dominick,
- 18:41you know those other teachers are going,
- 18:42when is that woman gonna retire?
- 18:48So, what happens?
- 18:49Now do you get to go to Mayhem
- 18:50and do a final?
- 18:51I haven't had the email yet that, well,
- 18:54we had to...
- 18:56um send in all five of well it's
- 18:58four scores or it's five scores um you
- 19:03have to send your video of all of
- 19:05them and then send something to prove that
- 19:08you're within that field okay like a
- 19:12educating certificate or something like
- 19:14that and then
- 19:17The winning athlete of each division will
- 19:22get an email.
- 19:23And I think we're supposed to be getting
- 19:24all the information.
- 19:25And I think the way it works is
- 19:28I get to choose anyone in the educator
- 19:30division to pair up with me.
- 19:33And then I will go in a pair
- 19:36with educator against a pair of law
- 19:38enforcement, a pair of firefighters,
- 19:40a pair of medical officers.
- 19:44So I don't know what other one I'm
- 19:45missing right now.
- 19:46Military.
- 19:48So it's not,
- 19:50it's not clear whether I'm picking an
- 19:52educator or if I can pick anyone from
- 19:54any field and we're pairing up.
- 19:56I don't have the, the information on it.
- 19:59So yes, it's at Mayhem.
- 20:00It's November.
- 20:00It's November.
- 20:00It's November.
- 20:01It's November.
- 20:01It's November.
- 20:01It's November.
- 20:02It's November.
- 20:02It's November.
- 20:03It's November.
- 20:03Okay.
- 20:04I've had a couple of the educator athletes
- 20:07reach out to me saying that they're
- 20:09available.
- 20:10So I have some decisions to make.
- 20:14And you can pick a male or a
- 20:15female?
- 20:16I think it's two females.
- 20:17Okay, so you need to pick a female.
- 20:19Got it.
- 20:20I just don't know whether you're picking
- 20:21from your own division,
- 20:23which is what I think.
- 20:24I think you want to see who is
- 20:25the fittest field versus the fittest pair.
- 20:29Yeah.
- 20:30So I would assume you pick from your
- 20:32field.
- 20:32So, yeah.
- 20:35That's cool.
- 20:36So in talks with some free agents,
- 20:40I guess.
- 20:40Yeah.
- 20:43Larry Young is all medical lumped
- 20:45together.
- 20:46I believe so.
- 20:47Yeah.
- 20:48John George, how much Cheddar?
- 20:51I think it's all for the love of
- 20:52your occupation.
- 20:55Last year,
- 20:55there was money there last year.
- 20:57I think the winning team,
- 20:59I don't know what I don't like.
- 21:00I don't have any information this year,
- 21:01but the winning team last year, I think,
- 21:03had like three grand.
- 21:05Second place had maybe a thousand and then
- 21:07third place,
- 21:08maybe five hundred or something like that.
- 21:09OK.
- 21:12in a nice uh trophy cup that mayhem
- 21:15made because i went to go look at
- 21:18a youtube video because i just was curious
- 21:20on what the hell the event was so
- 21:23i wanted to see what kind of events
- 21:24they had too last year just to see
- 21:26what their style was because i don't know
- 21:31if it's more crossfitty if it's more
- 21:35um strongman and like kind of carrying
- 21:38people i just wanted to see what kind
- 21:39of things like you're expected there so
- 21:41then i went back on the mayhem video
- 21:43from last year and it looked really cool
- 21:45i just i think it's two from the
- 21:47same division um and yeah there was a
- 21:50little prize at the end do they pay
- 21:52for you to get out to me or
- 21:55is that oh i doubt it okay i'm
- 21:57not sure but i would assume no hey
- 22:02look at this guys new member
- 22:09But yeah, no,
- 22:10I doubt that they would pay because that's
- 22:12like, that would be way too expensive.
- 22:16So let's look at some of the other
- 22:17divisions.
- 22:19This is CrossFit Professional.
- 22:21We have Devin Kopsel was the winner there.
- 22:24What is CrossFit Professional?
- 22:27I think it's coaches.
- 22:28Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:30So some of these divisions,
- 22:31you're not – so this one,
- 22:33the CrossFit professional,
- 22:34the CrossFit coach is what it is
- 22:36basically.
- 22:37You're not moving on to the next round,
- 22:39but you were able to participate.
- 22:41Did you guys do the Service Cup workouts
- 22:42at your affiliate?
- 22:44I had a member do them.
- 22:45He's in military.
- 22:46Okay.
- 22:47Cause like I programmed them for CrossFit
- 22:49Coliseum.
- 22:50So we all did them.
- 22:52I didn't,
- 22:52I didn't do any of mine with the
- 22:54classes cause I did two of them at
- 22:55school,
- 22:55two of them right after school before like
- 22:59classes began, but they all did them.
- 23:01They liked them.
- 23:02They're good.
- 23:05Awesome.
- 23:05Ashley,
- 23:05Michael won the CrossFit professional
- 23:08women.
- 23:08Okay.
- 23:10And then we have a firefighter.
- 23:16Lauren Crocetti.
- 23:21And then on the men's side,
- 23:24we have Cam Crockett.
- 23:25We know Cam.
- 23:26A buddy of mine up in Akron.
- 23:29He was Amanda Barnhart's training partner.
- 23:33Probably five-time semifinal regional
- 23:37athlete.
- 23:38Brandon Swan.
- 23:40Games athlete?
- 23:41Brandon Swan from Australia.
- 23:43Yeah.
- 23:44Yeah,
- 23:45he's the one who fell off the rope
- 23:47the first time he made the games and
- 23:49to get to finish.
- 23:51He's a great guy.
- 23:52I had him on the show, gosh,
- 23:55maybe a couple years ago.
- 23:56Super, super awesome guy.
- 23:59Great storyteller.
- 24:03Brennan Smith sounds familiar too.
- 24:08Then we go to law enforcement.
- 24:11We have Samuel Paquin.
- 24:17Oh, yeah.
- 24:18That one sounds really familiar.
- 24:19Lee Sharum.
- 24:19He was on a team this year with
- 24:21the Meat Nugget.
- 24:24I can't remember her.
- 24:26Jessica Androzek.
- 24:31And then on the women's side,
- 24:35Megan Apostolaris, friend of the show.
- 24:37Good job.
- 24:41Royal Canadian Mountie.
- 24:42That's awesome.
- 24:46And then we have medical,
- 24:49which is Alex DeGarmo.
- 24:51That name sounds really familiar too.
- 24:52That sounds very familiar.
- 24:58And then the men,
- 25:00we have Tristan Harrison,
- 25:02which is a semifinal athlete again,
- 25:06last couple of years.
- 25:10And military, Jack Rosema,
- 25:15may have heard of him.
- 25:19dominated women Katie Cunningham and then
- 25:27service supporter is this like spouse or
- 25:32partner probably just anyone that wants to
- 25:35do the workouts I would assume just like
- 25:39you want to support and give ten bucks
- 25:42that's what I would think
- 25:45Yeah, that makes sense.
- 25:49Just to, like, pop into the competition.
- 25:51So that's Erica Matthews,
- 25:52and on the men's side, Christian Vela.
- 25:58So, anyway,
- 25:59those are your Service Cup winners.
- 26:04Jack and Carolyn Shockers, I know.
- 26:09And they do have the overall rank.
- 26:11So if I do all...
- 26:14Jack was the overall winner.
- 26:16Cam second.
- 26:19Brandon Swan fifth.
- 26:21And on the women's side,
- 26:22I think Carolyn was, yeah,
- 26:24Carolyn won the overall for all service.
- 26:30And a pretty decent,
- 26:33by a pretty decent chunk of change.
- 26:35Like the next educator is fifth place,
- 26:38Maddie Edwards.
- 26:39So a one and a five,
- 26:40that's pretty good.
- 26:41I like looking at that.
- 26:43We're all stack up.
- 26:44Yeah.
- 26:45Different.
- 26:46Yeah.
- 26:46So twenty five point win.
- 26:49Not too shabby.
- 26:51All right.
- 26:53How are the workouts?
- 26:55Workouts are good.
- 26:55They're accessible.
- 26:57No hanging, high-skill movements,
- 27:01no handstand push-ups.
- 27:03So a lot of dumbbell work, grippy things.
- 27:06One of them was a row,
- 27:08and then you added fifty feet of farmer
- 27:13carry every time.
- 27:13So it was like a twenty-minute AMRAP of
- 27:18that.
- 27:18So anyone can just hop in and do
- 27:20that workout.
- 27:22Short workout,
- 27:22you get a thruster and burpee.
- 27:25Workout.
- 27:26Twenty one.
- 27:27Fifteen nine nine.
- 27:29I think it was.
- 27:30Yeah.
- 27:33Shorter ish.
- 27:34Depends, I guess,
- 27:36if you like that shorter for some people.
- 27:39And then you had a workout that was
- 27:41a ten minute.
- 27:43Amrap of hang.
- 27:46clean and jerk with a barbell into a
- 27:49back squat into a toaster bar.
- 27:52So it went five, ten back squats,
- 27:54fifteen toaster bars.
- 27:55And then at the ten minute mark,
- 27:56you have five minutes to do a max
- 27:58clean.
- 27:59Anyhow.
- 28:02My only thing I would say for these
- 28:03workouts is I'm used to going like
- 28:08overhead into a back squat.
- 28:10Like I think that's
- 28:12a lightweight that we had like eight
- 28:14pounds.
- 28:15I don't know how it was for other
- 28:16members,
- 28:17but I don't think that's a move that
- 28:18a lot of people practice is to go
- 28:20from the overhead position to a back.
- 28:24So I would,
- 28:25I think it's just a little bit of
- 28:26a miss there for the,
- 28:28like just the oversight of like safety
- 28:30wise of the workout.
- 28:31But other than that,
- 28:32it was super accessible, fun workouts,
- 28:35nothing too crazy.
- 28:37Um,
- 28:38that five minute went by way too fast.
- 28:41I switched my shoes up and even put
- 28:44my like, um, wrist wrapping.
- 28:48You had like one of them,
- 28:49one of my cleans.
- 28:50I had one of them on and I'm
- 28:51trying to do it on the other one.
- 28:54I thought I had way more time than
- 28:57I had.
- 28:57It was super grippy.
- 28:59Yeah.
- 28:59A lot of grippy.
- 28:59Oh, I'm sorry.
- 29:00I'm missing a workout.
- 29:01It was, uh, uh,
- 29:03dump another one with dumbbells over a
- 29:06box, uh,
- 29:07It was like eight or ten reps.
- 29:09I don't remember.
- 29:10Then it was dumbbell snatches,
- 29:11maybe like twelve and I think forty eight
- 29:15double under six rounds of that.
- 29:16So sorry I missed that one.
- 29:17Yeah.
- 29:18So he did like the toes to bar
- 29:21with the max clean and he changed his
- 29:23shoes as well.
- 29:24Had time for three lifts.
- 29:28So that's all you really need.
- 29:31I'm glad they brought it back and I'm
- 29:32glad that it's being supported and
- 29:36I hope you find a good partner and
- 29:38we could see some video of you in
- 29:41Cookville.
- 29:42I haven't been to Cookville since...
- 29:45I've only been there once.
- 29:50I went there because I competed on a
- 29:52team before for Mayhem.
- 29:54I haven't been there since,
- 29:55so I'm excited.
- 29:58Wow.
- 29:58It's all different now.
- 29:59Yeah, that's what I heard.
- 30:01I mean, I've seen also in the videos.
- 30:03Yeah.
- 30:05Now they have the big athlete-only area,
- 30:07and it wasn't there before.
- 30:09What's crazy is when Lex was there for
- 30:11the Mayhem Classic,
- 30:13where that is now was just a big
- 30:15tent,
- 30:16and a rainstorm came in and flooded the
- 30:17whole thing out on one of the days.
- 30:20Oh, it was such a mess.
- 30:24Yeah.
- 30:25And that takes us to the next story,
- 30:27and that is being an event organizer and
- 30:30how crazy that can be.
- 30:31And you have to be special to be
- 30:32able to do that.
- 30:34And if you have not heard,
- 30:36Loud and Live decided to sell the
- 30:38Wadapalooza events to a consortium that is
- 30:42headed by Dylan Malitzky.
- 30:46And I just want to take a minute
- 30:47to say that if anybody has earned this
- 30:52opportunity, it is Dylan.
- 30:55When I started as a volunteer in two
- 30:56thousand thirteen,
- 30:58he was just starting as an emcee.
- 31:02he has worked his he went if you
- 31:05don't know a story he went to college
- 31:07at university of miami with allison scuds
- 31:10and uh noah olsen okay we got connected
- 31:14with peak and guido trinidad and he
- 31:19started volunteering with wataplooza miami
- 31:21then then they asked him to go on
- 31:24the mic and he did not want to
- 31:25do it he didn't think he'd be good
- 31:27at it if you've ever heard dylan at
- 31:29an event he is the best
- 31:32It takes a special talent not to say
- 31:34the same things all day long.
- 31:36And he is so good at it.
- 31:39I recognize his voice every time he's on
- 31:41the mic.
- 31:42He has a voice that you recognize.
- 31:47And you can't say that about a lot
- 31:48of people in the space because you'll hear
- 31:51a lot of voices at different events.
- 31:52But yeah, he's good.
- 31:54And in all my time in the space,
- 31:56I've never heard someone say a bad word
- 31:57about Dylan.
- 32:01He comes on shows even though he hates
- 32:03it.
- 32:05He participates in things.
- 32:07He's always available at events to make
- 32:09sure you're doing okay.
- 32:11And I've known him since we were both
- 32:14volunteers.
- 32:16So I've known him since...
- 32:19I think it's when we first worked at
- 32:20an event together.
- 32:22And I'm just super happy for him.
- 32:25And in the story that the barbell spin
- 32:26broke, he talked to Dylan and everybody...
- 32:32On this consortium,
- 32:34Does CrossFit has competed at Wadapalooza
- 32:38and works out an affiliate,
- 32:42which is pretty freaking cool.
- 32:46So, I mean,
- 32:49it's just like a band of people that
- 32:51got together and came up with money.
- 32:54Yeah.
- 32:54It happens all the time.
- 32:55Like in sports,
- 32:57usually nobody has the amount of money to
- 32:59buy like an NFL team consortium that comes
- 33:02together, pulls their money.
- 33:04Dylan was named the director of Waza
- 33:08sports, which is what it's called now.
- 33:11And he is a partner of the group.
- 33:15A lot of liveness,
- 33:16both the SoCal and the Miami one.
- 33:18Both were sold.
- 33:20Both were sold.
- 33:23And what was Loud and Live in charge
- 33:26of?
- 33:26The media part of it?
- 33:29So Loud and Live is a big company
- 33:31for event planning in Miami.
- 33:33And the CrossFit stuff just kind of became
- 33:37part of their portfolio.
- 33:39But really,
- 33:39they just let O'Keefe and or Dylan run
- 33:44the CrossFit stuff.
- 33:46But in Miami,
- 33:47they're like a big event coordinator,
- 33:49like for celebrities,
- 33:51for a lot of different things like that.
- 33:54So it probably didn't fit their portfolio
- 33:57anymore.
- 33:59And so they just were going to be.
- 34:01And if someone was interested in buying it
- 34:03and Dylan has put so much time and
- 34:05effort into this to grow it,
- 34:07why not give it to the person who
- 34:09is invested in it and let him own
- 34:10it?
- 34:12And it makes more sense to them.
- 34:14Plus it gives Loud and Live some cashflow.
- 34:16So who knows what they're trying to do
- 34:18otherwise,
- 34:19but it gives them pretty immediately some
- 34:22cashflow.
- 34:23But I'm just happy it's him.
- 34:24Like he's just, he's just a good dude.
- 34:27And, you know,
- 34:28he grew up through all the stuff that
- 34:31we did and, and gets what it is.
- 34:37So I put in the rundown of,
- 34:42the sneaky big news around this.
- 34:44So Dylan bought this with his group right
- 34:48before SoCal.
- 34:50So the sale was done.
- 34:53We see that all of the CrossFit HQ
- 34:55people were at Wadapalooza SoCal.
- 34:59Some of them who have never been to
- 35:01a Wadapalooza event ever in their time at
- 35:03CrossFit.
- 35:06Do you see this leading to even more
- 35:10and bigger partnerships with CrossFit?
- 35:15Well, there's already one with the open,
- 35:16I guess, with that partnership.
- 35:18Are you saying like CrossFit would want to
- 35:20run anything with them?
- 35:21Cause I feel like CrossFit is extremely
- 35:23hands-off for.
- 35:26I think that now you have an event
- 35:29director who can help put on events and
- 35:33They have all of the equipment,
- 35:35like the lighting and the stuff that they
- 35:39take from venue to venue,
- 35:42or they have the resources or the
- 35:44connections to get all of that stuff,
- 35:47right?
- 35:48And once you become a bigger company that
- 35:52does it for more than like two events
- 35:54or three events,
- 35:55but now maybe you do it for five
- 35:57or six or seven events,
- 35:58that can become a cheaper overhead.
- 36:01Right, right.
- 36:04So you think maybe this will be the
- 36:06group that puts on the local semifinals in
- 36:09the U.S.
- 36:10here?
- 36:12I just think that it could lead to
- 36:14more.
- 36:18Like they could help with the games.
- 36:21They could help with the setup of the
- 36:22games.
- 36:23They could help with.
- 36:25different lighting.
- 36:25They could help with different just to
- 36:27change things up.
- 36:28Right.
- 36:29It's just different ideas.
- 36:31They could, you know,
- 36:32Dylan has done a great job of maximizing
- 36:35the footprint he had, like in Miami.
- 36:38If you've never been to the,
- 36:39the original water Palooza site,
- 36:42he got every square inch of that park
- 36:45used for water Palooza.
- 36:50And just to have that knowledge of like
- 36:53how to plan that footprint and
- 36:55And I only say that,
- 36:56and this is not a dig on CrossFit,
- 36:58really.
- 36:59You go to Madison,
- 37:01there was a lot of empty space, right?
- 37:05And it was really kind of spread out.
- 37:08If you like pulled that in a little
- 37:10bit and got the community closer together,
- 37:13I think it just changes the dynamic of
- 37:15how it looks, how it feels,
- 37:17how the vendors may be excited about it,
- 37:21things like that.
- 37:26Yeah, I mean,
- 37:26it could certainly be in talks.
- 37:30Who knows what's in talks with CrossFit
- 37:32right now?
- 37:34Yeah.
- 37:39Denise,
- 37:41Wadapalooza understands how to draw
- 37:42spectators in.
- 37:45How much are tickets for Wadapalooza?
- 37:48Everything's always expensive for
- 37:50Wadapalooza.
- 37:52But they have the free day.
- 37:55And I think that's key.
- 37:57That's a big deal.
- 38:00And they started going into a tiered
- 38:02ticketing system too.
- 38:05Like Madison,
- 38:07like you would have like a festival ticket
- 38:10that was fifty bucks a day and then
- 38:12you'd have the VIP ticket that was like
- 38:14three hundred bucks a day.
- 38:18Now their VIP area was beach bars, um,
- 38:23up on the top of the thing,
- 38:25like really well done and well thought
- 38:29out.
- 38:29Right.
- 38:33Um,
- 38:38Chris,
- 38:38CrossFit is finally realizing that having
- 38:40partners is a good thing.
- 38:42The same old model doesn't work,
- 38:43so let's counter WFP and partner with
- 38:47someone who supports CrossFit.
- 38:52I don't think you need to counter WFP.
- 38:55I don't think.
- 38:59Yeah.
- 39:00I mean, on one hand,
- 39:02the problem always lies in the more people
- 39:05you bring in,
- 39:06the more
- 39:08the more information gets out ahead of
- 39:10time because you're bringing in a whole
- 39:12nother group to loop them in.
- 39:15Well,
- 39:16I'm not even saying like that they have
- 39:17to be a part of like the strategy.
- 39:20They just have resources, right?
- 39:22But they have to for floor setup.
- 39:24Like they have to.
- 39:27You're thinking floor setup.
- 39:28I'm thinking venue setup.
- 39:32Yeah.
- 39:32Yeah.
- 39:34But I mean, if you start, I mean,
- 39:36I guess you can keep things very vague,
- 39:37but like you start talking about, hey,
- 39:39I need a seventy foot floor and I
- 39:42need and I need some of a turf
- 39:43or we start like start adding elements.
- 39:47I mean, yeah,
- 39:47you could probably still keep it super
- 39:48vague, but.
- 39:50When you can keep that in house,
- 39:52if you wanted to.
- 39:52Yeah.
- 39:53And just but just the whole like footprint
- 39:56of the event is.
- 40:00I don't know.
- 40:01I think it's a good thing.
- 40:02The more partners you have,
- 40:04the more people with expertise and
- 40:06knowledge and you don't have to bring on
- 40:07every member of, of water Palooza sport.
- 40:11You could just like say, Hey Dylan,
- 40:12can you help us out with X, Y,
- 40:14and Z and bring in one person or
- 40:17I don't know.
- 40:17It just,
- 40:20it was exciting to me because I think
- 40:21it opens up the avenues of some new
- 40:24and exciting things.
- 40:24I tell you what, go ahead.
- 40:27You know who needs to bring them in?
- 40:29is legends they need that footprint was
- 40:36terrible right vendor space every like
- 40:40just not laid out well it wasn't laid
- 40:44out well at all like they were all
- 40:45the way at the end and like the
- 40:48specters didn't even have to go there at
- 40:49all and see anything nope there was no
- 40:53reason for it where it was
- 40:55We just don't have any sponsors in the
- 40:56space right now.
- 40:57I just feel like it's hard to get
- 41:00sponsors.
- 41:01It's too expensive.
- 41:02We're charging too much.
- 41:05Tickets are too much and charging the
- 41:07sponsors too much to have a booth there.
- 41:10And I think if you have more sponsors,
- 41:12first of all,
- 41:13it helps with the event and draws people
- 41:15in because they can go and see a
- 41:17bunch of different vendors.
- 41:19I just think we have a problem with
- 41:20pricing, which we talked about previously.
- 41:23I will bang the drum forever.
- 41:25The Waterpalooza's free day makes the
- 41:28vendors so happy.
- 41:30And I guess at SoCal,
- 41:31the vendor village is outside of where
- 41:34your ticketing is.
- 41:36So if you just want to go shop,
- 41:38it's right out front.
- 41:39Yeah.
- 41:47Denise said Yeti was a sponsor and wasn't
- 41:49even there.
- 41:51You know what I love?
- 41:51I hate about Yeti is I was at
- 41:53the games.
- 41:54Yeti in vendor village.
- 41:55This is in Madison.
- 41:57They had a big booth set up with
- 41:58all the different colored Yeti cups and
- 42:00all the sizes and all the shapes and
- 42:02all the stuff.
- 42:04And I love yet.
- 42:05And I wanted a Yeti bottle and I
- 42:07went in to buy one.
- 42:08They weren't selling them there.
- 42:11They just made a big display and like,
- 42:13go to the website and buy it.
- 42:16Wow.
- 42:19Well,
- 42:19you just lost me because I was going
- 42:21to hand you a credit card right here,
- 42:22but I'm not going to get online and
- 42:24have it shipped to my house.
- 42:26They didn't want to bring inventory.
- 42:31But they had all the cool colors.
- 42:38Yeah.
- 42:38Andrew said,
- 42:39I will say Legends got screwed by some
- 42:41sponsors that came from the CrossFit side.
- 42:45Yeah,
- 42:47I know that when I've talked to people,
- 42:50not necessarily at Legends,
- 42:51but other groups that have worked with
- 42:53CrossFit,
- 42:54they only got so many slots to get
- 42:57sponsors or people in the vendor village.
- 43:00And then CrossFit left X number open for
- 43:03themselves because it's still called the
- 43:06CrossFit age group CrossFit games.
- 43:13But that shouldn't have impacted the
- 43:15footprint.
- 43:19So, all right.
- 43:23WFP made an announcement this week when
- 43:25Will Morad was on with Peter of Coffee
- 43:28Pods and Wads.
- 43:30They announced finals will be nine events.
- 43:33This is Copenhagen.
- 43:34This is the road we've been following for
- 43:36a while.
- 43:39And it is laid out over four days.
- 43:42Day one will be a swim and one
- 43:43other event.
- 43:45Day two will be project one,
- 43:47their community event,
- 43:48but they're also making the athletes do it
- 43:50as well.
- 43:51And then one event,
- 43:52then day three will be three events and
- 43:55day four will be two events.
- 43:59I felt like we already knew that
- 44:00information.
- 44:01We already knew that there was nine events
- 44:02in a swim there.
- 44:03So I don't know what,
- 44:04I guess we just know how many days
- 44:06have how many events.
- 44:07That's the only new information.
- 44:08And the project one.
- 44:09And the project one.
- 44:11What is project one?
- 44:12It is a community workout.
- 44:14I think it's already been announced.
- 44:16Like the athletes would already know what
- 44:18it is?
- 44:18I think so.
- 44:21I'd have to double check.
- 44:22I don't want to, I don't want to,
- 44:24I shouldn't have said yes.
- 44:25Yeah.
- 44:26I'm not sure either.
- 44:27I don't, yeah.
- 44:27I don't know if they had something to
- 44:29do with their community stuff that they
- 44:33were doing all along or if it's, yeah,
- 44:35I don't know.
- 44:39What about, I'm sorry.
- 44:41Okay.
- 44:41We'll finish this and I'll come back to
- 44:43the question.
- 44:44John asked a great question and I want
- 44:45to pose it out there.
- 44:48So anyway,
- 44:51Yeah, no,
- 44:52there was like that community stuff going
- 44:55on throughout the season, right?
- 44:57Like there was like a strength community
- 44:59and then like a gymnastics community.
- 45:01I don't know if this – I don't
- 45:03understand what Project One is or what
- 45:05they're trying to accomplish with it.
- 45:07But it's a community event.
- 45:08Yes.
- 45:09And the workout that they're using for it,
- 45:11they actually are now programming as part
- 45:13of the finals.
- 45:15So the elite athletes will be doing the
- 45:17same workout that the community is doing.
- 45:21What that means, I don't know.
- 45:27So after watching,
- 45:31and I'm assuming you watched the Will
- 45:33Morad interview with Peter,
- 45:37are you gaining any more confidence in the
- 45:39WFP?
- 45:44No.
- 45:48Will is just like a good talker.
- 45:52Like,
- 45:54I don't know that I'm getting any
- 45:55information out of him.
- 45:59I thought he was better in the interview
- 46:00than he's been in other ones.
- 46:03I thought that he was smoother and not
- 46:06necessarily.
- 46:07And I thought he seemed more open with
- 46:12his responses.
- 46:15Because you guys are cutting out for me.
- 46:19I think that's on your end, Carolyn.
- 46:20Yeah, your internet is breaking up.
- 46:23Because I Googled Project One WFP,
- 46:27and there's a workout that comes out also.
- 46:30So I don't know if it's the same
- 46:31one or not.
- 46:32Yeah, that's probably it.
- 46:33That's it.
- 46:41So I didn't gain any more trust with
- 46:48Will.
- 46:48Yeah.
- 46:49Yeah.
- 46:50Um, one,
- 46:51because to say that the rumors were made
- 46:54up when I'm one of the people who
- 46:55left,
- 46:56put out a rumor and I know the
- 46:58people I talk to,
- 46:59and I know the people I talk to
- 47:01are close enough to the situation to have
- 47:05a better understanding than, than I do.
- 47:09So that I was biased in it.
- 47:15Um,
- 47:16Yeah, I don't know.
- 47:16I just hear that stuff and I just
- 47:18sort of roll my eyes.
- 47:19Like, I just think he's, I don't know,
- 47:21just sounds like lip service to me.
- 47:26I do think they have a PR thing
- 47:28they need to work out.
- 47:30Yeah.
- 47:31Carolyn, you've just,
- 47:32you've gotten clearer visually.
- 47:35Can you hear us?
- 47:36Yeah, I'm trying to move my thingy around.
- 47:39I can hear you guys now.
- 47:41I can hear you guys are talking about
- 47:43the interview with Will Moran.
- 47:44Yes.
- 47:44Okay.
- 47:45Yeah.
- 47:48But even though I don't fully trust what
- 47:52he's saying,
- 47:53I can look at it and appreciate what
- 47:56he's trying to do with WFP.
- 48:00And as I've said forever,
- 48:02I want all the athletes to have all
- 48:04the opportunities and I want them to,
- 48:06but I, I also don't want,
- 48:12I don't want them to be forced to
- 48:14give up other opportunities just for that
- 48:16one.
- 48:20But anyway, I, I mean,
- 48:24I get where Will's coming from.
- 48:26If they get big enough where they're able
- 48:28to pay enough, then yeah,
- 48:29it would be exclusive.
- 48:30And it would be.
- 48:31You would just make that choice as an
- 48:33athlete.
- 48:34What is more important to you?
- 48:36A guaranteed contract or going to become
- 48:39the fittest center?
- 48:39I guess you got to make that decision.
- 48:45I don't see an issue with it,
- 48:46per se.
- 48:48I just... I don't know that it's...
- 48:52Again...
- 48:53business-mindedly like i don't see where
- 48:55they're i i think he's on to something
- 48:58with the like you need to get big
- 49:00enough to where the city wants you there
- 49:03and that venue is that's one thing that
- 49:06has kind of always confused me about the
- 49:08space like why why are we huh we
- 49:13had it madison wanted us there yeah and
- 49:16i don't know why you wouldn't you just
- 49:18take that like if you can get the
- 49:19venue for free
- 49:22that's that's got to save you several
- 49:23hundred thousand dollars like that you put
- 49:25that into the prize purse they need to
- 49:28work with the city to come up with
- 49:29a permanent outdoor piece to that somehow
- 49:35some way yep whether it's on that property
- 49:40or somewhere else and i do like that
- 49:43that will did say that their goal is
- 49:45to be make their tour stops in the
- 49:47same place so they can develop
- 49:49relationships with the city
- 49:51and get that partnership.
- 49:53And that's what legends told me they were
- 49:55trying to do in Columbus.
- 49:59Well,
- 49:59year one is all about building your
- 50:01reputation, right?
- 50:02Cause no one knows what this league was
- 50:05outside of our little CrossFit community.
- 50:08So it's hard to sell without having,
- 50:10you know,
- 50:10multiple years of data to back up and
- 50:13then to show to a city.
- 50:15Um, so yeah.
- 50:24I do think they need to be forthcoming
- 50:26with what first place is going to get
- 50:30next year.
- 50:33Talks to Phil B's comment here.
- 50:35Yeah.
- 50:35I don't understand why they wouldn't post
- 50:37the season contracts.
- 50:38It will get more athletes interested.
- 50:40Well, you know what you're fighting for.
- 50:41You know what the pro card is worth.
- 50:43Right now, we don't know exactly.
- 50:45I mean,
- 50:46you know what it's worth if you get
- 50:48last place at each one and what the
- 50:49minimum you could get,
- 50:51and I guess what the top,
- 50:52but you don't really know what the
- 50:53guaranteed are.
- 50:56And that's the thing that's drawing people
- 50:58in is having that guaranteed income.
- 51:03And also, I mean,
- 51:05this year you could –
- 51:07negotiate i guess maybe a little bit your
- 51:08contracts based off of things but the
- 51:11following year is just going to be based
- 51:13off of your ranking from this season and
- 51:15and then so on but yeah i think
- 51:19that that number should be published a
- 51:22little bit just to see where it helps
- 51:25people make decisions well like in the nba
- 51:30or the the nfl they have tiered contracts
- 51:33like yeah
- 51:35If you're drafted sixth,
- 51:37you're going to make between,
- 51:39and they pretty much know down to like
- 51:42a couple dollars what that athlete's going
- 51:44to make.
- 51:46Now,
- 51:46what may get negotiated that we don't know
- 51:48are like incentives or benefits or things
- 51:52like that or just different language.
- 51:58But the money, you pretty much know.
- 52:00So I don't understand why they don't
- 52:03publish the money.
- 52:03Yeah.
- 52:05If you want to be called a pro
- 52:07sport, that is what pro sports do.
- 52:10Every contract is public.
- 52:14For the new women's professional league,
- 52:16they didn't put the contracts in the first
- 52:19year,
- 52:19but I know that that's something that
- 52:20they're going to be putting now just so
- 52:23athletes and their agents can...
- 52:27go to the table with the team and
- 52:28be like, Hey, this is my player.
- 52:30This is what they're making.
- 52:31But you couldn't really do that when,
- 52:33when the contracts aren't public.
- 52:37Uh, John, I don't think it's guaranteed.
- 52:39Even if you're hurt,
- 52:40I believe that the guaranteed money is
- 52:42only if you show up at the event,
- 52:45it was described on one podcast as if
- 52:47you show up to two out of three
- 52:49events,
- 52:50you will get sixty six percent of your
- 52:51guarantee.
- 52:53Yeah.
- 52:54But I think that's why you're getting some
- 52:56people showing up for a day of events
- 52:59and then withdrawing.
- 53:01But the thing is also like,
- 53:02not only are they getting the money is
- 53:05paid,
- 53:05like their trip is paid for like their
- 53:07travel and stuff.
- 53:08Like that's a huge thing as well.
- 53:11Cause we don't have that anywhere else,
- 53:13but the rogue invitational.
- 53:15Right.
- 53:15Right.
- 53:17So like you can't fault it.
- 53:19Like these athletes have like this great
- 53:21opportunity in front of them where it's
- 53:22guaranteed money.
- 53:23Their trip is paid for.
- 53:24You don't have any qualifiers to do just
- 53:26show up.
- 53:27Like why would you say no?
- 53:29Like it's hard not to.
- 53:30Um, Phil, we,
- 53:35we talked about that next year would be
- 53:36by finish.
- 53:39And if this year was different, right.
- 53:42And they get a Letterman jacket.
- 53:45Um,
- 53:47So anyway, enough about that.
- 53:52We have him in Factor Fiction,
- 53:54so we'll probably finish up there.
- 53:58But I did have a question from John
- 53:59George that I wanted to ask a question
- 54:02going back a little bit.
- 54:03Was it the Jim Reapers?
- 54:04No.
- 54:05Oh, yeah, I saw.
- 54:09How about Wadapalooza do the Masters games
- 54:13paired with the Tier Cup?
- 54:20So like at nighttime,
- 54:21the primetime event is the tier cup.
- 54:24And then during the day is the masters
- 54:25CrossFit games and make it age group.
- 54:27Yeah.
- 54:28Yeah.
- 54:34I mean,
- 54:35I'm not sure I'd want the age group
- 54:37games in the sand.
- 54:38No.
- 54:40Um, that's so I,
- 54:42I think we'd have to tweak it a
- 54:43bit, but, um, I don't know.
- 54:46What are your thoughts?
- 54:51I think that could be huge to get...
- 54:54I think that would bring in a lot
- 54:57more spectators.
- 54:57It would bring in a lot of people.
- 55:00And I think Columbus...
- 55:01I don't see why that wouldn't work in
- 55:03Columbus.
- 55:06Wouldn't be maybe as fun for the Tier
- 55:09Cup athletes, but...
- 55:15I don't know how much you guys explored
- 55:16in Columbus.
- 55:17If you walked out of that door and
- 55:19went straight...
- 55:20for two blocks there's the hockey arena
- 55:24the baseball stadium and the soccer
- 55:26stadium yeah i saw that part so the
- 55:30the last two are outdoor things that you
- 55:34could do like a tear cup outside and
- 55:38you wouldn't have the marine layer come in
- 55:40on the floor at night yeah yeah that
- 55:46was like dangerous
- 55:53And Denise is probably right.
- 55:55Is Waterpalooza willing to give up all the
- 55:57money the community and other divisions
- 55:58bring in?
- 56:04Yeah, probably not.
- 56:04I mean, they have Miami, which would stay,
- 56:07I mean, I don't know.
- 56:12I think it's a cool idea.
- 56:14I don't think it'll ever happen.
- 56:15Yeah.
- 56:16But I do think it's a cool idea.
- 56:19But I like,
- 56:19why not try to partner the age group
- 56:22games with something else like that?
- 56:25Exactly.
- 56:36Miami and SoCal are also big draws as
- 56:38destinations.
- 56:39What are you saying, Andrew,
- 56:40that nobody wants to come to Columbus?
- 56:41Yes.
- 56:47Oh, somebody's got to spoil it for me.
- 56:49I haven't watched it yet.
- 56:50Sprague and Gerrard golf outing.
- 56:53Who won?
- 56:54Did James win?
- 56:55I haven't seen it yet.
- 56:57Oh,
- 56:57I'll watch it when I get off here.
- 56:58I had it queued up.
- 56:59I was getting ready to watch that.
- 57:03But he's just self-proclaiming that those
- 57:06two are the best in the men's field,
- 57:07but there's other golfers in the men's
- 57:09field.
- 57:11I guess somebody better step up and say
- 57:13they're good and go challenge him.
- 57:16I bet you to dig it, Jason,
- 57:17like of the podium finishers,
- 57:20they're the two best golfers and they're
- 57:21battling it out.
- 57:22Yeah.
- 57:27But I could be wrong.
- 57:33Fact or fiction,
- 57:34I did not get into the system today.
- 57:37I had an errand to run.
- 57:38So I'm just going to read them out
- 57:40loud.
- 57:42Fact or fiction, number one.
- 57:45Potential semifinals should be allowed to
- 57:48partner with other comps to give automatic
- 57:51bids to their competition.
- 57:55And the reason I ask this is because
- 57:58Carolyn told me to.
- 58:00But more importantly,
- 58:02let me pull up the post.
- 58:12Maybe my search and Instagram is not
- 58:16moving fast.
- 58:17Anyway,
- 58:17Northern California classic put out a
- 58:20post.
- 58:20If it comes up,
- 58:21I'll pull it up where they said that
- 58:25if you compete in this event and you
- 58:28win,
- 58:29you get an automatic bid to the NorCal
- 58:31classic.
- 58:32The crash crucible or crash camp,
- 58:34whatever it's called.
- 58:35Yeah.
- 58:36So if you win the crash camp,
- 58:38you get an automatic bid to NorCal
- 58:40classic, which is next year.
- 58:43Correct.
- 58:44And it's assumed if you look at the
- 58:46dates and times of everything,
- 58:48NorCal has put out that it will be
- 58:50a semifinal again.
- 58:52So should you get an automatic bid by
- 58:55doing a competition this year for the
- 58:58CrossFit game season next year,
- 59:01or should they have to go through the
- 59:02open traditional way?
- 59:06It's more so like that field's already
- 59:08set.
- 59:08The qualifier already happened for crash.
- 59:10Yeah.
- 59:11And after the fact,
- 59:13these people are getting invites when no
- 59:15one else even knew that that was going
- 59:16to be an opportunity.
- 59:18That's where I have issues with a lot
- 59:22of times is just the invites that just
- 59:24kind of come out of nowhere.
- 59:26And it's like, oh, well,
- 59:27if I knew or if this...
- 59:32Because they have their qualifier that
- 59:34they normally do in January,
- 59:36which they're pre...
- 59:41tickets price whatever should be coming
- 59:43out soon and then they have their december
- 59:45price um so you have your qualifier
- 59:47already what's the like i feel like you
- 59:50have your qualifier and then or the open
- 59:52or something like i just want the routes
- 59:54to kind of be similar i just find
- 59:56that every semi-final does their own type
- 59:58of qualification and it's very confusing
- 1:00:02and hard to follow
- 1:00:04And I think if it was everyone was
- 1:00:06like through the open or through the open
- 1:00:08or their qualifier and it's not.
- 1:00:11Well, if you went to this event,
- 1:00:12that's also a spot.
- 1:00:14I think it just becomes too confusing and
- 1:00:18hard to keep up with.
- 1:00:20Yeah,
- 1:00:20that's been a thing in the Masters realm
- 1:00:22for a while now.
- 1:00:24And you in like kind of with Rogue,
- 1:00:26right?
- 1:00:27Like.
- 1:00:27you don't even know,
- 1:00:29do I need to get fourth?
- 1:00:30Do I need to get six?
- 1:00:31Like how many people are they even taking
- 1:00:32from this qualifier?
- 1:00:33Like that kind of stuff is annoying
- 1:00:36because you don't know how many people
- 1:00:37they're inviting.
- 1:00:39And that like,
- 1:00:40I've noticed that in some masters comps,
- 1:00:42like maybe they're inviting six people.
- 1:00:45Maybe they're inviting three,
- 1:00:46like this age group gets.
- 1:00:49From the qualifier.
- 1:00:50This age group gets from the qualifier.
- 1:00:51There's no rhyme or reason.
- 1:00:52You aren't even sure.
- 1:00:55And more importantly, like I, I,
- 1:00:57I would say fact,
- 1:00:59I would say fact if it was all
- 1:01:02laid out and it wasn't post like the
- 1:01:07qualifier happening.
- 1:01:08Like if you'd said this is going to
- 1:01:10be a thing for next year and then
- 1:01:12you do it.
- 1:01:13Before the crush qualifier.
- 1:01:15Yes.
- 1:01:16Then I don't see really any issue with
- 1:01:18it.
- 1:01:18Like everyone should know.
- 1:01:20that if you go to crash and win,
- 1:01:22you have an opportunity.
- 1:01:23Now,
- 1:01:23I would say opportunity because I still
- 1:01:25don't think they should get an automatic
- 1:01:26bid.
- 1:01:27I think they still need to do the
- 1:01:29open and – because you need –
- 1:01:35Cause right now you can bypass the open
- 1:01:37according to this.
- 1:01:39You could buy now, I don't know,
- 1:01:41maybe to get a spot to the games
- 1:01:43and it's similar to what the semifinals
- 1:01:45was this year.
- 1:01:46Like you have to,
- 1:01:47you can be at the semifinal without doing
- 1:01:49the open or quarterfinals,
- 1:01:51but if you have your spot, it's, it's,
- 1:01:54it's that ghee scenario, right?
- 1:01:56Yeah.
- 1:01:56But he was like,
- 1:01:57wasn't in the top two thousand or
- 1:01:59whatever, but it would be like a Fuliano.
- 1:02:01Sorry.
- 1:02:02Fuliano would be a better example.
- 1:02:05um so if they didn't do the open
- 1:02:07they wouldn't wouldn't be able to go to
- 1:02:09the games even if they won that yeah
- 1:02:10they would get a spot at norcal but
- 1:02:12not necessarily i guess that's fine i just
- 1:02:15think it's dumb but i mean yeah i
- 1:02:17don't know i don't have an issue with
- 1:02:19it but it should be should be known
- 1:02:22before every stage like we need to know
- 1:02:25about it not it can't be post
- 1:02:30qualification qualifications
- 1:02:33I think that's the problem with a lot
- 1:02:34of what happened last year is the rules
- 1:02:37came out after things that already
- 1:02:39happened in the season.
- 1:02:41And that made it crazy.
- 1:02:43I know barbell spin put out a thing
- 1:02:45this week.
- 1:02:46Why do we get so upset about change?
- 1:02:48And that's it.
- 1:02:49It's that when the change happens,
- 1:02:51we don't really know what's happening
- 1:02:53until midway through the season when the
- 1:02:55rules have finally settled.
- 1:02:57Yeah, I think.
- 1:03:00Tyler spoke about this with his wife.
- 1:03:04It's it's that things keep changing.
- 1:03:07Like you have a baseline.
- 1:03:08This happened to me every year.
- 1:03:10Like I had a line and then I
- 1:03:12would do that.
- 1:03:13But the line moved every year.
- 1:03:14This happened to me.
- 1:03:16We went from forty to twenty to ten.
- 1:03:18And it's like and I would have I
- 1:03:19would have qualified.
- 1:03:20But the line kept moving like that is
- 1:03:21extremely frustrating for athletes trying
- 1:03:24to get somewhere when the line keeps
- 1:03:25moving on them.
- 1:03:27I know it doesn't matter for the top
- 1:03:28ten in the world,
- 1:03:30and they'll deal with it.
- 1:03:31But, like,
- 1:03:31it really – and the problem is, like,
- 1:03:34it's hard to grow the sport when shit
- 1:03:35doesn't make sense to your middle tier of
- 1:03:37athletes.
- 1:03:40Yep.
- 1:03:43All right.
- 1:03:44Easy, easy part two.
- 1:03:46Fact or fiction?
- 1:03:47Chicken wings are an appetizer.
- 1:03:49Fact.
- 1:03:50Fact.
- 1:03:55he was i was cracking up watching him
- 1:03:57on that the fact that he was just
- 1:03:58like it's a meal i mean i didn't
- 1:04:01get it but it was a meal tyler
- 1:04:04and and john oh i don't know no
- 1:04:06i think john was telling him that it's
- 1:04:08an appetizer i don't know if i watched
- 1:04:10it this week well the thing is that
- 1:04:13they both are like oh i don't eat
- 1:04:14appetizers and blah blah you know what
- 1:04:16they are come on right like we're not
- 1:04:19under a rock here guys right they're on
- 1:04:22every appetizer menu
- 1:04:25Yeah, I mean,
- 1:04:26it depends if you take a bunch of
- 1:04:27different wings and also now your
- 1:04:29quantity.
- 1:04:30But if you get like six, whatever,
- 1:04:32wings as an appetizer, whatever it is,
- 1:04:34like a pound of wings.
- 1:04:36It's an appetizer.
- 1:04:37It's an appetizer for sure.
- 1:04:40Are you a ranch or blue cheese ranch?
- 1:04:43Yeah, ranch.
- 1:04:44I hate blue cheese.
- 1:04:45You're a blue cheese?
- 1:04:46All day.
- 1:04:47Yeah.
- 1:04:48Ranch.
- 1:04:49When I was a kid, I loved ranch.
- 1:04:51And now that I'm older,
- 1:04:52I cannot stand ranch.
- 1:04:53I don't want it on anything.
- 1:04:55Crazy.
- 1:04:56It can go on everything.
- 1:05:02All right.
- 1:05:02Factor fiction.
- 1:05:03Will Morad is becoming the Dave Castro of
- 1:05:05the WFP.
- 1:05:07And my thinking behind this, just so,
- 1:05:09and you can take it wherever you want
- 1:05:10to, is...
- 1:05:13the WFP leadership are taking a step back
- 1:05:16and they're letting will out there on his
- 1:05:18own to answer all the questions and will
- 1:05:21will be the one that takes the heat.
- 1:05:23And that is what they have designated him
- 1:05:25to be now moving forward.
- 1:05:29Yeah, I can see that.
- 1:05:30And he's like, uh, you know,
- 1:05:33Dave Castro is a prick.
- 1:05:35I feel like Will's getting that a little
- 1:05:37bit.
- 1:05:37And he seems to be the director of
- 1:05:40sport, right?
- 1:05:41He seems to be the one that's making
- 1:05:42all the workouts.
- 1:05:43So in many ways,
- 1:05:46I would say fact that he is taking
- 1:05:48that role on.
- 1:05:50I don't know.
- 1:05:51I think fiction.
- 1:05:52I don't see it.
- 1:05:53I don't see it the same, I guess.
- 1:05:56I don't know enough about him to make
- 1:05:59that comparison.
- 1:06:01Like he does the programming.
- 1:06:03He's a lot closer to the athletes and
- 1:06:05has a different relationship, I think,
- 1:06:06to the athletes that it's hard to compare
- 1:06:08because he has a different experience in
- 1:06:10the field than Dave would.
- 1:06:12Yeah.
- 1:06:14See, in my mind, he is,
- 1:06:15but it's not because he's becoming the
- 1:06:17prick.
- 1:06:18It's because he is now the face of
- 1:06:22WFP,
- 1:06:22just like Dave became the face of the
- 1:06:24CrossFit Games.
- 1:06:26And so if there's any heat coming,
- 1:06:28it will be Will that takes it now.
- 1:06:31Because Jackson and Ryan Husband have all
- 1:06:35taken a step back out of the spotlight,
- 1:06:37and they've let Will kind of run with
- 1:06:39it from here on.
- 1:06:40That's my view of it.
- 1:06:43Not necessarily like that he's...
- 1:06:45Because I like Will.
- 1:06:46It's really hard for me not to like
- 1:06:47Will because I've had a lot of years
- 1:06:51talking to him at different points in
- 1:06:52time.
- 1:06:53And he's always been really cool.
- 1:06:56But I do think that he is now
- 1:06:57out there as the face or scapegoat,
- 1:07:01whatever may come.
- 1:07:07Meredith Jones.
- 1:07:08Isn't ranch almost a requirement as an
- 1:07:09American?
- 1:07:15It is.
- 1:07:15Larry Young, love blue cheese,
- 1:07:16but it's so many cows.
- 1:07:18I'll be quite honest with you.
- 1:07:19When I'm eating a chicken wing,
- 1:07:21if it's a good chicken wing,
- 1:07:22I don't want anything on it.
- 1:07:24I just want the sauce and the chicken.
- 1:07:26I don't want the ranch or the blue
- 1:07:28cheese.
- 1:07:29But if it's not great and I need
- 1:07:31a little bit of pick me up,
- 1:07:34I'll go with the blue cheese.
- 1:07:36No, I want the ranch.
- 1:07:37I want all of it.
- 1:07:37Dump it in there.
- 1:07:42All right, last factor fiction.
- 1:07:45There really is no sale of CrossFit.
- 1:07:47They've all been duping us.
- 1:07:49It sort of seems that way at this
- 1:07:51point, huh?
- 1:07:52I feel like we've been waiting for like
- 1:07:53six months at least from this sale talk.
- 1:07:55I was like, oh,
- 1:07:56is it going to be right after the
- 1:07:57open?
- 1:07:57Is it going to be right before the
- 1:07:59games?
- 1:08:00No,
- 1:08:00it's going to be right after the –
- 1:08:01it's like keep pushing it.
- 1:08:03I don't know.
- 1:08:05You might be onto something here.
- 1:08:06Yeah.
- 1:08:09Maybe nothing's happening.
- 1:08:10Maybe they couldn't make anything work
- 1:08:12out.
- 1:08:15Clock, sneaky truth.
- 1:08:18Well, hear me out.
- 1:08:19Now let's go full conspiracy theory.
- 1:08:24Because they said they're up for sale,
- 1:08:26we haven't been banging on them for all
- 1:08:28the stuff they do poorly.
- 1:08:30Yeah.
- 1:08:31And in that time,
- 1:08:32they've actually started to do stuff well.
- 1:08:34Yeah.
- 1:08:35Yeah.
- 1:08:36And to actually start moving in the right
- 1:08:37direction with better marketing campaigns.
- 1:08:40It was a pretty good CrossFit Games this
- 1:08:42year.
- 1:08:43All the old merchandise back.
- 1:08:47Social media is back up and running and
- 1:08:50thriving again.
- 1:08:52The CrossFit podcast is up and running.
- 1:08:55And now they're like, hey,
- 1:08:56we've got it all rolling on the right
- 1:08:57track now.
- 1:08:59And we could actually maybe wait a couple
- 1:09:01years and sell it for even more.
- 1:09:03Yeah.
- 1:09:06If you're trying to sell it,
- 1:09:07you need to make it look good before
- 1:09:09you try to sell because.
- 1:09:11But maybe they made it look too good.
- 1:09:13And now they're like, well,
- 1:09:14if we can just keep this rolling.
- 1:09:17Give it another year.
- 1:09:19See if they can build on the games
- 1:09:20even more.
- 1:09:22Yeah.
- 1:09:25I mean,
- 1:09:25I'm starting to dive down this conspiracy
- 1:09:27theory because it's been six months of
- 1:09:30them telling us it's been sold.
- 1:09:32Right.
- 1:09:32Yeah.
- 1:09:34And five hundred different names.
- 1:09:36As soon as it hasn't even had a
- 1:09:38sales show in like two months.
- 1:09:43I feel like it's done.
- 1:09:44It's killed.
- 1:09:47No info.
- 1:09:48No new info.
- 1:09:51So we all believe that CrossFit really
- 1:09:52hasn't sold.
- 1:09:53Yes.
- 1:09:55We've all been duped.
- 1:09:56Yep.
- 1:09:57Yep.
- 1:09:57I'm a fact on that one.
- 1:09:59I'm going with the conspiracy.
- 1:10:01I like a good conspiracy theory.
- 1:10:05I'll go.
- 1:10:06Yeah.
- 1:10:08Good stuff.
- 1:10:11So I had some questions for you.
- 1:10:13Denise had a question back here.
- 1:10:15I don't want to miss it.
- 1:10:15Yeah.
- 1:10:18Okay.
- 1:10:19Here's my question.
- 1:10:20What age groups do you think they will
- 1:10:21have in person for the semis?
- 1:10:23Thirty five to forty five.
- 1:10:25I can't see them having in person for
- 1:10:26divisions that only have fifteen athletes
- 1:10:29going to the games.
- 1:10:31That's a good point.
- 1:10:33That is a good point.
- 1:10:34It depends.
- 1:10:36I think from what I'm hearing in the
- 1:10:38people that are doing the,
- 1:10:40at least some of the people doing these
- 1:10:42events is that it will be fully an
- 1:10:45age group thing.
- 1:10:48Last year at semis,
- 1:10:49we only let two people go from each
- 1:10:52one.
- 1:10:53Right.
- 1:10:53Yeah.
- 1:10:55So you can still have it and just
- 1:10:57let one or two people from the sixty
- 1:11:00five to sixty nine go.
- 1:11:06Yeah, I could see it.
- 1:11:10That's a big that's a big put on.
- 1:11:15I mean,
- 1:11:15do you think they'll have a European one?
- 1:11:17And that was my exact thought right now
- 1:11:20is like,
- 1:11:20are the opportunities only going to be in
- 1:11:22the States?
- 1:11:24i don't think that's fair but it's a
- 1:11:32step forward at the same time of having
- 1:11:34an in-person event like and drug testing
- 1:11:37at those in person too prior how about
- 1:11:40that that's a good start that's a good
- 1:11:43point let's do it so uh cross fat
- 1:11:48said he bought it hook line sinker i
- 1:11:52believe that as much as anything right now
- 1:11:56All right.
- 1:11:58I have a couple questions for you guys
- 1:11:59while I open it up to the chat.
- 1:12:02It is question time.
- 1:12:03You can shoot us any of us a
- 1:12:05question.
- 1:12:11How big is the European pop for those
- 1:12:13groups in Masters calculated decision?
- 1:12:15I will say that the worldwide
- 1:12:19representation at the Masters games is
- 1:12:21even higher than the CrossFit games.
- 1:12:23Yeah.
- 1:12:29So I do see where that could be
- 1:12:30a problem.
- 1:12:32Some of the best in the world are
- 1:12:33not from the United States,
- 1:12:35and you could be taking away their
- 1:12:38opportunity.
- 1:12:41I'd argue that they'll still make it,
- 1:12:43but yes, it's taking away.
- 1:12:48It...
- 1:12:50Not all masters though.
- 1:12:51The oldies.
- 1:12:52Hey, I'm telling you like the English,
- 1:12:54Irish oldies are really good.
- 1:12:55Yeah.
- 1:12:55So there's usually one or two.
- 1:12:56I'm trying to,
- 1:12:56I think like the older men,
- 1:12:57like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:00like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:01like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:04like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:05like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:06like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:07like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:08like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:10like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:11like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:12like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:14like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:15like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:16like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:17like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:17like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:18like the older men, like the older men,
- 1:13:19like the older men,
- 1:13:20like
- 1:13:21she's a champion in her division every
- 1:13:23time yeah she's won like four times second
- 1:13:28three times first four times um yeah two
- 1:13:34out of two out of twenty were outside
- 1:13:36the us yeah that's definitely lower in the
- 1:13:39in those groups because i would say it's
- 1:13:41quite a bit higher in the thirty five
- 1:13:43in the forty and are most people accepting
- 1:13:46their places to go to the games would
- 1:13:47you say or
- 1:13:50is two just because like international
- 1:13:53didn't travel.
- 1:13:55I think most people accept.
- 1:13:57Okay.
- 1:14:03I have a question for you while we're
- 1:14:04waiting.
- 1:14:04If anybody else has questions,
- 1:14:07if you could pick a comp workout that
- 1:14:10you would crush,
- 1:14:12what three movements would it contain?
- 1:14:17Toe to bar, bar muscle up.
- 1:14:20Power clean.
- 1:14:23What weight for the power clean?
- 1:14:24Probably like one twenty five.
- 1:14:31Deadlift burpees box jump.
- 1:14:37I almost said burpees,
- 1:14:38but I feel like I needed to put
- 1:14:39a barbell in the deadlifts at two twenty
- 1:14:41five.
- 1:14:44To two seventy five somewhere in there for
- 1:14:48reps.
- 1:14:48Yeah.
- 1:14:50I'll take on anyone with those three.
- 1:14:54I need like dense set of total bar.
- 1:15:01Vi,
- 1:15:02since WFP has shut down the exclusivity
- 1:15:04rumor with regard to twenty twenty six,
- 1:15:07did you circle back to the person who
- 1:15:09told you that was happening?
- 1:15:10And if so,
- 1:15:11what did they have to say?
- 1:15:13Well,
- 1:15:13the problem is why it wasn't a person.
- 1:15:15It was people.
- 1:15:20And those people were not connected in any
- 1:15:22way other than they had some relationship
- 1:15:24with the WFP.
- 1:15:28And so, but no,
- 1:15:29I have not circled back with them.
- 1:15:31Um,
- 1:15:33and I'm just taking them at their word
- 1:15:34now that there will not be exclusivity
- 1:15:36next year.
- 1:15:39I just think,
- 1:15:41I just think it's a little bit inherent.
- 1:15:44I mean,
- 1:15:44it sounds like they're trying to move
- 1:15:47stuff around.
- 1:15:49they hear a conflict but like there's i
- 1:15:54mean truly if you want to do if
- 1:15:57you you kind of have to focus on
- 1:15:59one or the other it as it gets
- 1:16:02bigger that's just inevitable whether you
- 1:16:07want to say that they're like they're not
- 1:16:08requiring an exclusivity but
- 1:16:11Do you think it's too early for them
- 1:16:13to go to like four or five events
- 1:16:14next year?
- 1:16:15Or do you feel they should stick to
- 1:16:16three for a few years and then build
- 1:16:18from that?
- 1:16:18Cause that's expensive.
- 1:16:19Adding more,
- 1:16:21more conflict with other competitions.
- 1:16:23Like I feel like the three is perfect
- 1:16:25right now where it's not too much.
- 1:16:28You're already having people not being
- 1:16:29able to do all three.
- 1:16:32So I don't know that they needed to
- 1:16:34go to more next year.
- 1:16:35And I think that's an issue for them
- 1:16:38going to four or even five next year
- 1:16:40or whatever number they're going to
- 1:16:41choose.
- 1:16:43I think they should stick to three,
- 1:16:45figure out where to place them and hold
- 1:16:48that for a few years until you build
- 1:16:50your new league.
- 1:16:55It's too early.
- 1:16:57It's not the right time to move to
- 1:16:59more.
- 1:16:59Yeah.
- 1:17:00Well, that's just more travel for fans.
- 1:17:05You're going to get less and less
- 1:17:06in-person fans when you do that.
- 1:17:11Then I've got to pick which one I
- 1:17:11go to.
- 1:17:12I'm probably going to save it for the
- 1:17:13finals, which is the most important.
- 1:17:17You can't even guarantee that everyone's
- 1:17:18going to show up at the other three
- 1:17:20because they don't matter.
- 1:17:22The only one that matters is the last
- 1:17:23one that's worth double.
- 1:17:25They would matter if you had more.
- 1:17:28No, they'll matter less.
- 1:17:30they'll get spread out even more simple
- 1:17:32math.
- 1:17:33They would add,
- 1:17:33they would matter more for events at
- 1:17:37single points and one event at double
- 1:17:38points.
- 1:17:39You can earn way more points at the
- 1:17:40four single point events.
- 1:17:45You'll get more people spread out and only
- 1:17:47do like,
- 1:17:47the thing is you're not going to know
- 1:17:48who is going to be where,
- 1:17:49because inevitably you're going to have
- 1:17:51people missing from each event.
- 1:17:53So like as a fan, well, yeah,
- 1:17:54I don't want to have that argument,
- 1:17:58but
- 1:17:58Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:17:59You're as a fan,
- 1:18:00it's pointless to go to these first four
- 1:18:01events.
- 1:18:02I just think it's too expensive.
- 1:18:04You're, you're, you're,
- 1:18:06you're paying for the athletes to compete
- 1:18:07at all of these events for their travels.
- 1:18:10You're needing to find venues three or
- 1:18:13like, you know, an additional one.
- 1:18:16They're getting the venues for free.
- 1:18:21But here's my thing.
- 1:18:24One,
- 1:18:24if you put them on different continents,
- 1:18:26then it's a different fan base that you're
- 1:18:28going after.
- 1:18:28Yeah.
- 1:18:29Two, they have a PR problem.
- 1:18:32When Jason Hopper goes on a very popular
- 1:18:34podcast and says,
- 1:18:36I just didn't have the excitement for this
- 1:18:38event because the games just happened.
- 1:18:43Like it becomes now a PR problem that
- 1:18:47people, what is important to the athletes.
- 1:18:50And if they're not coming in with their
- 1:18:51best effort,
- 1:18:52how many people are going to be paying
- 1:18:54big ticket prices to come see it?
- 1:18:56See, I don't buy that.
- 1:18:57People don't go with their best effort.
- 1:19:00I'm not saying that all of them,
- 1:19:03weren't trying and they use different
- 1:19:07things as it as excuses.
- 1:19:08I'm going to continue to say that if
- 1:19:10they have a good weekend, they're good.
- 1:19:11And if they don't,
- 1:19:12then they're tired from the games like
- 1:19:14they keep like,
- 1:19:16they're all trying their hardest.
- 1:19:18It just depends whether they executed.
- 1:19:20Sometimes you're sick that weekend,
- 1:19:21sometimes you shit the bed,
- 1:19:23sometimes literature at the beds,
- 1:19:25maybe sometimes people but like,
- 1:19:27I don't know,
- 1:19:30I think they're all trying their best.
- 1:19:33i have a hard time believing that they're
- 1:19:34showing up and not trying to do the
- 1:19:37best that they can on an event unless
- 1:19:40unless they're injured and they're just
- 1:19:42showing up for the paycheck just to get
- 1:19:43points that's the only reason and then
- 1:19:45maybe pull up very early uh philby do
- 1:19:49we have new rumors lined up this week
- 1:19:52uh i've shut down the smear campaign
- 1:19:54machine um for the week i will say
- 1:20:00it for the last time
- 1:20:02I only say things on here that I
- 1:20:04have heard from multiple sources in
- 1:20:06different that have no connection.
- 1:20:10That is it.
- 1:20:11Whether it was right, wrong,
- 1:20:12or indifferent,
- 1:20:13it was believable because I heard it from
- 1:20:15several people from different sources,
- 1:20:19from different avenues.
- 1:20:23So,
- 1:20:24and the one story that I was told
- 1:20:26made a lot of logical sense.
- 1:20:30So that's all it is.
- 1:20:31I stand by what I was told.
- 1:20:36Just to say.
- 1:20:38I will add one more point to what
- 1:20:39I said.
- 1:20:39And that's that the WFP releases their
- 1:20:42events like three weeks before.
- 1:20:45So I think that also plays a role
- 1:20:47into your preparation.
- 1:20:48You know what you're preparing for,
- 1:20:49how to taper, like the days leading in,
- 1:20:52what to kind of play around with to
- 1:20:54feel better going into the event versus
- 1:20:56trying to train everything.
- 1:20:58And like,
- 1:20:59you know what the events are too.
- 1:21:02So in terms of preparation,
- 1:21:03it helps the athletes knowing what they
- 1:21:05are.
- 1:21:09Uh, I'll stick to what cross fat does.
- 1:21:11I'll just put my smear on a bagel
- 1:21:14smear.
- 1:21:21Um, cross that you also know,
- 1:21:23it's not going to be your week.
- 1:21:25That's sort of the problem with knowing
- 1:21:27events early.
- 1:21:33that works better for some athletes than
- 1:21:34others.
- 1:21:35Like some athletes can practice events
- 1:21:37two, three times,
- 1:21:38dial it in and perform better.
- 1:21:41Some,
- 1:21:42some just can't really do that or can't
- 1:21:46put in like, I mean,
- 1:21:47if Jason is volume sensitive,
- 1:21:49he's not going to practice the workouts
- 1:21:50three times.
- 1:21:52But that's knowing yourself as an athlete
- 1:21:54and that's your coaches knowing how to
- 1:21:56prepare you.
- 1:21:57That's part of the game.
- 1:21:58Like,
- 1:22:00If that's not something that works for
- 1:22:01you,
- 1:22:01like Ariel doesn't test many of the
- 1:22:02workouts before she does pieces of them.
- 1:22:05A lot of times she does harder pieces
- 1:22:07than what they are.
- 1:22:08Um, but you,
- 1:22:11you need to figure out what works for
- 1:22:12you.
- 1:22:15What do you think about what Ariel does?
- 1:22:18If you want to pay five dollars to
- 1:22:20her Instagram,
- 1:22:20you can see what she does every day
- 1:22:22other than her strength workout.
- 1:22:26Yeah.
- 1:22:28She doesn't share the strength.
- 1:22:30Right.
- 1:22:31Because someone else writes her strength.
- 1:22:32So I don't think she feels she has
- 1:22:34the right to put it out for everybody
- 1:22:37to consume.
- 1:22:38But if you become a member of her
- 1:22:40on Instagram channel for five dollars a
- 1:22:42month,
- 1:22:43you get you can see every workout she
- 1:22:44does every day.
- 1:22:47I mean,
- 1:22:48to see what she was doing and like
- 1:22:50what she was posting on it as a
- 1:22:51member.
- 1:22:53And she does her workout every day with
- 1:22:54full explanation.
- 1:22:56She talks about how it went for her,
- 1:22:58how she felt during it.
- 1:23:00where it got sticky,
- 1:23:01all that kind of stuff.
- 1:23:03I don't think that that matters.
- 1:23:04Like you can,
- 1:23:06people can look at her scores.
- 1:23:08It doesn't mean that like they'll
- 1:23:09replicate what they're like.
- 1:23:10They don't know how she's feeling.
- 1:23:11They don't know if that was her first
- 1:23:12piece, second piece.
- 1:23:14She just dropped off her daughter,
- 1:23:15like at sporting event,
- 1:23:17like what the transition space was between
- 1:23:21her, her machines.
- 1:23:22Like,
- 1:23:22I don't think it matters to put your
- 1:23:23scores out there that much.
- 1:23:26With the full workout.
- 1:23:27You're like the reason I find it like,
- 1:23:30I have mine on Beyond the Whiteboard for
- 1:23:31almost everything that I do,
- 1:23:33basically public.
- 1:23:35The qualifiers I keep secret,
- 1:23:37odd little stuff if I want to just
- 1:23:39put it as only me,
- 1:23:39but most of my stuff is just public.
- 1:23:42All of my scores, everything.
- 1:23:44I don't care.
- 1:23:44People don't know what the spacing is
- 1:23:47between stuff.
- 1:23:48You could do the same workout and it
- 1:23:50looks different.
- 1:23:51We came from an era where Matt wouldn't
- 1:23:53share anything and Tia wouldn't share
- 1:23:56anything.
- 1:23:57the end of the day you're either working
- 1:24:00hard or you're not and you're going to
- 1:24:01be fit or you're not i just found
- 1:24:05it refreshing to see i like that that
- 1:24:08she does that you know i guess and
- 1:24:11i don't have beyond the white border i'd
- 1:24:12check out what you write up there every
- 1:24:14day but it's like i don't know people
- 1:24:19can do what what they do this doesn't
- 1:24:21mean that other people can do what they
- 1:24:22do right
- 1:24:24Well,
- 1:24:24and Ariel said there's only one athlete
- 1:24:27that subscribes to her Instagram and
- 1:24:30that's Danielle Brandon.
- 1:24:32Wow.
- 1:24:32So yeah, it's interesting.
- 1:24:41Last question for me,
- 1:24:43unless something else comes in from the
- 1:24:44group,
- 1:24:46what is your favorite comp to compete in
- 1:24:49besides the CrossFit games?
- 1:24:50We're organizational, not even close.
- 1:24:54not even close maybe maybe fresh coast
- 1:25:11because it's different um and then there's
- 1:25:17there was a local comp around here that
- 1:25:19i used to do that i like it's
- 1:25:21cougars and sugars sugar daddies
- 1:25:24Um, so you have to, like,
- 1:25:25I was usually the cougar.
- 1:25:27So like,
- 1:25:27I would have to compete with a boy
- 1:25:29that was younger,
- 1:25:31more than ten years younger than me.
- 1:25:35And where you have these had to do
- 1:25:36with a,
- 1:25:37a female that was more than ten years
- 1:25:39younger than them.
- 1:25:40Yep.
- 1:25:40Yep.
- 1:25:44That was a cool comp.
- 1:25:45I liked it.
- 1:25:46And I mean, it's just,
- 1:25:48it's just something different to do,
- 1:25:49but
- 1:25:51I also like to feel like I get
- 1:25:52value out of my competitions.
- 1:25:55Like I like a three,
- 1:25:57three day event that has nine scores.
- 1:26:01Like I like MFC it's close, convenient.
- 1:26:04I think there's enough workouts.
- 1:26:06So if I had to say like value
- 1:26:10wise, I'd probably say MFC,
- 1:26:11but just like a fun little event,
- 1:26:15fresh coast.
- 1:26:16It's fun.
- 1:26:17I like doing the stuff on the beach,
- 1:26:18something different.
- 1:26:20CrossFit,
- 1:26:21who wins the cup now that Barkov is
- 1:26:23injured, Carol?
- 1:26:25Canada, finally?
- 1:26:29I mean, I'd like to see Montreal,
- 1:26:31their young players,
- 1:26:32step up this year and do something,
- 1:26:34but it's been a while since Montreal's
- 1:26:37done well.
- 1:26:39I don't know.
- 1:26:40I haven't seen that Barkov got injured.
- 1:26:43I don't know what he has injured,
- 1:26:46but Barkov plays...
- 1:26:49on the Stanley Cup winning team, Florida.
- 1:26:54I'm just tired of Florida and Edmonton.
- 1:26:56I'm ready for something.
- 1:26:57I mean,
- 1:26:58I would like Edmonton to win one just
- 1:27:00for McDavid to have his cup because he's
- 1:27:02so good.
- 1:27:04As long as he doesn't go to Toronto,
- 1:27:07then I'm happy if he just gets a
- 1:27:08cup.
- 1:27:11Well,
- 1:27:11I've heard that the Penguins are selling
- 1:27:12everybody off this year,
- 1:27:13so I'm just buckling up for a rough
- 1:27:16season.
- 1:27:20Well, that is it.
- 1:27:21If there's no other questions from you
- 1:27:23guys, I am.
- 1:27:25Oh,
- 1:27:26I think Jamie's performance says that
- 1:27:31James from WFP performance says that some
- 1:27:34folks were able to put in their best
- 1:27:36work at both this year.
- 1:27:37I'm not saying there were people that
- 1:27:39couldn't do that,
- 1:27:40but as from a PR perspective,
- 1:27:44when an athlete or two start making those
- 1:27:47statements,
- 1:27:48it's a PR nightmare for a company.
- 1:27:52That's all.
- 1:27:53And I'm not saying that they're doomed.
- 1:27:56That's what,
- 1:27:56that's what's so hard about people with
- 1:27:58the WFP.
- 1:28:00You say one critical statement and they
- 1:28:02mean, they think you mean it's like awful.
- 1:28:05Yes.
- 1:28:05I'm just saying like,
- 1:28:07if you're running a company,
- 1:28:08you don't want your athletes saying
- 1:28:09anything negative about the
- 1:28:13company at all especially a startup you
- 1:28:17don't want the crossfit games champ saying
- 1:28:19i'm too tired to give my best effort
- 1:28:22at this whether it's an excuse whether
- 1:28:25it's whatever yeah i agree it doesn't look
- 1:28:30good it just becomes a pr thing that
- 1:28:33you now have to deal with
- 1:28:35And you have to then tell future athletes
- 1:28:38that might be interested that that's not
- 1:28:40really the case.
- 1:28:42He had the flu that week or blah,
- 1:28:45blah, blah.
- 1:28:46You know,
- 1:28:46like it's just something that's been lined
- 1:28:48up or whatever.
- 1:28:49Right.
- 1:28:51PR is people's perceptions.
- 1:28:54It doesn't mean it's reality.
- 1:28:55It's that people get a perception because
- 1:28:58of something that was said.
- 1:28:59And now you as a company have to
- 1:29:01deal with it.
- 1:29:04Right.
- 1:29:05That's all.
- 1:29:06I'm not saying that they're doomed because
- 1:29:08of it.
- 1:29:08I'm just saying that it's now another
- 1:29:10thing on their list that they have to
- 1:29:12deal with.
- 1:29:18And with that.
- 1:29:20it's been a fun Sunday night.
