- 0:57Speaker 2: Well, welcome in. It's fun Friday, which is not our
- 1:00Speaker 2: favorite name for the show, but I can't do I
- 1:03Speaker 2: can't come up with anything that's any more descriptive about
- 1:05Speaker 2: Radio Night Live on a Friday night. She's Christine Nicholas,
- 1:08Speaker 2: I'm Kevin McCullough, and you and I had that conversation
- 1:11Speaker 2: before I left last week. You're like you know, neither
- 1:13Speaker 2: neither one of us really liked the term fun Friday.
- 1:15Speaker 2: But what are we supposed to do? Yeah, well it's
- 1:19Speaker 2: what we do. We have fun on Friday.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, and it is going to be fun five years.
- 1:25Speaker 2: We've been stuck with it fun.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Five years and we Kevin, we're going to have a
- 1:30Speaker 3: fun show tonight. Yeah, you know, we're going to go
- 1:33Speaker 3: to the top of the top to one Vanderbilt, the
- 1:36Speaker 3: new I can't call it the new observation deck there
- 1:39Speaker 3: because it's been there.
- 1:41Speaker 2: They celebrated their five years. That's it. Yeah, it's five years.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Welter. We'll be back all the way around, folks. We're
- 1:48Speaker 3: going to have a special treat for you with Alejandro Christensen.
- 1:53Speaker 3: He is a young aspiring singer.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Well let's put it this way. You may not know
- 1:58Speaker 2: his name now, but you're going to know his name
- 2:02Speaker 2: going forward in the future. We promise you that.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And it's not a unique name. By the way, Alejandro.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Christensen not spelled them and spelled like the Danish form
- 2:12Speaker 2: it is.
- 2:13Speaker 3: It's a beautiful family and they he tried out at
- 2:17Speaker 3: Ellen Stardusteiner they had the Junior Stardusters. Well it was
- 2:20Speaker 3: last month and he won in the thirteen and underage group.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I think there were thirty contestants, and he was there
- 2:28Speaker 3: last year and he was the runner up, and this
- 2:31Speaker 3: year he won that age group. So he's going to
- 2:33Speaker 3: be back at Ellen Stardusteiner to celebrate Kids' Night Out
- 2:37Speaker 3: on Broadway on the twenty fifth of August, and he's
- 2:40Speaker 3: going to be singing as a junior Star Duster, which
- 2:43Speaker 3: is really exciting.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Can't wait to get to that. I'm all inundated with
- 2:49Speaker 2: kids singing these days. You might want to know why, Yes.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Please tell us. I think because you have a couple
- 2:55Speaker 3: of kids who sing in the McCullough household for maybe
- 2:59Speaker 3: one in press.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So the voice you were hearing just there under that
- 3:05Speaker 2: is Charlotte, my youngest. Mary Poppins was in previews last
- 3:11Speaker 2: night performances tonight and tomorrow, and Christine, this messed me
- 3:17Speaker 2: up big time. I don't I didn't know that Mary
- 3:20Speaker 2: Poppins the musical was so different than the movie. Oh yes,
- 3:25Speaker 2: the musical like Mary Poppins is kind of mean. She's
- 3:28Speaker 2: kind of like, not a very nice person. But the
- 3:31Speaker 2: thing that makes her nicer is that the father's nanny,
- 3:34Speaker 2: Miss Andrew who Charlotte played last night and this weekend
- 3:39Speaker 2: comes back and she's meaner, like, I don't know what's
- 3:41Speaker 2: with these British nannies, but they shouldn't have been raising kids.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Well it is. It's a great musical, great music, it's something.
- 3:50Speaker 3: The soundtrack is something that is in a core memory.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I'm sure for Rebecca, my oldest, because she would fall
- 3:57Speaker 3: asleep to it. And she's a Broadway Yes, we would
- 4:00Speaker 3: go to the Broadway show quite often. It was her
- 4:03Speaker 3: favorite and we had the soundtrack. We had the little
- 4:06Speaker 3: CD player and she would play it NonStop. She could
- 4:10Speaker 3: sing all the words. She knew every song. And it's
- 4:12Speaker 3: just a beautiful musical.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Well, when they were going.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Through messaging in there about dads too, yes, well.
- 4:18Speaker 1: We know.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Saving saving mister Banks. We learned that that childhood was
- 4:25Speaker 2: hard for the young woman that put that story together.
- 4:31Speaker 2: The one thing that that was interesting was when tryouts
- 4:34Speaker 2: were going on and she got slated as Miss Andrew.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Neither her mom nor I had ever heard of that
- 4:40Speaker 2: character because we hadn't seen the Broadway show, and she
- 4:43Speaker 2: was so ecstatic to get this this this character and
- 4:47Speaker 2: this song. And I'm like, but what about a spoonful
- 4:51Speaker 2: of sugar and super fragilistic, expialidocious and all other stuff.
- 4:54Speaker 2: She goes, no, that's that's fun. That's all good, Dad,
- 4:56Speaker 2: This is the part that I wanted. And then we're
- 4:59Speaker 2: in previews last night, and it's, honest to goodness, I
- 5:03Speaker 2: think one of the hardest songs she's ever learned. It's
- 5:05Speaker 2: got a lot of technical difficulties that the other songs
- 5:09Speaker 2: in the show don't. It's and she it's just a
- 5:11Speaker 2: short song, so there's a lot of range.
- 5:13Speaker 3: It for sure does.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and she got to be a villain, so it
- 5:16Speaker 2: was her first his first note, Yeah, get to be
- 5:19Speaker 2: a villain. They're like, okay, I think she's wanted to
- 5:21Speaker 2: be a villain to her brothers for a long time,
- 5:23Speaker 2: so this is some sort of like you know, something
- 5:25Speaker 2: coming true. But anyway, that was that's going to obsess
- 5:28Speaker 2: my weekend, nothing but more performances of that. And excited
- 5:33Speaker 2: about that. I'm also excited that you were able to
- 5:36Speaker 2: fill in for me last week and give me a
- 5:39Speaker 2: few days away with the family. We were down in
- 5:41Speaker 2: Cape May, Beautiful, Beautiful, Kate May.
- 5:43Speaker 3: We had a great show with Martya Pell and Tracy
- 5:46Speaker 3: nipprint talking baseball, of course, and we had Tom Harris
- 5:51Speaker 3: T Square came to give us an updates.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Marks how many appearances for him?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Now?
- 5:55Speaker 2: What was I ab has not enough?
- 5:58Speaker 3: I mean, I love having him on. He's just he's
- 6:01Speaker 3: just a wonderful guest always and there's always something. And
- 6:04Speaker 3: there was an interesting article that came out in Cranes
- 6:09Speaker 3: about the observation decks in New York City and how
- 6:14Speaker 3: the competition, well is it competition? Is that what's creating
- 6:18Speaker 3: this issue for the Empire State Building, which in their
- 6:21Speaker 3: earnings call, you know, they announced that their visitorship is down.
- 6:26Speaker 3: So that's one of the reasons why we're going to
- 6:28Speaker 3: have Nastasio Walter on later so we can.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But for the record, in five years, Tom Harris made
- 6:36Speaker 2: his twenty seventh appearance on the show. Wow, and I
- 6:40Speaker 2: guess that's the that's the new record.
- 6:42Speaker 3: So that's amazing.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Well, yeah, like he's got like five green jackets times five,
- 6:48Speaker 2: Like he's like he's gotten so many. Well, I am
- 6:52Speaker 2: looking forward to tonight's stuff. We've got a lot of
- 6:55Speaker 2: interesting things to discuss. I feel badly though we had
- 6:59Speaker 2: some one Vanderbilt on a couple of years ago and
- 7:03Speaker 2: I never got there, and I don't want Mastasia to
- 7:06Speaker 2: be mad at me for not having been, because what
- 7:09Speaker 2: I'm reading about it now, it's the like the most
- 7:11Speaker 2: amazing thing you could ever go see.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I don't think she's going to be mad at all
- 7:15Speaker 3: because guess what other people went. And now it's become
- 7:20Speaker 3: the number one observation deck in New York City, so
- 7:24Speaker 3: very cool, surpassed esp which by the way, you know, look,
- 7:28Speaker 3: Summit is fabulous and it's different, but you can't go
- 7:34Speaker 3: without going to the Empire State Building. It is, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 3: the historic. It's that you know, there's a lot of history,
- 7:40Speaker 3: but you should go to Bulls. And then there's so
- 7:42Speaker 3: many others too. There's one Time Square which they have
- 7:46Speaker 3: an observation deck not as high nowhere near the others.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I think there's edge. I haven't been on that one.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Steve Cuzo, I think, is covering this as well. Aaron
- 7:56Speaker 3: Elstein from Crane's covered this. It's a hot issue right
- 7:59Speaker 3: now because I think New York City, you know, we
- 8:02Speaker 3: only had two observation decks, you know, Top of the
- 8:05Speaker 3: Rock and Empire State Building until the World Trade Center
- 8:10Speaker 3: was rebuilt. And now there's there's a I think there
- 8:13Speaker 3: are six.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Total six seven yeah, yeah.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Six seven. Oh my god, Keven, you fallen into the
- 8:19Speaker 3: top seven.
- 8:21Speaker 2: But not just but not just but not just observation decks.
- 8:26Speaker 2: There's there's a lot of like really nice rooftops that
- 8:29Speaker 2: are opened, you know, with eateies too, and it is
- 8:33Speaker 2: it is a great city to see from above if
- 8:35Speaker 2: you have the ability to do it. We're going to
- 8:38Speaker 2: take a quick break when we come back. We're going
- 8:39Speaker 2: to go to Summit one Vanderbilt, and a little bit
- 8:42Speaker 2: later we are going to meet someone very cool. Won
- 8:46Speaker 2: the Junior Starduster Award. So basically that's like American Idol
- 8:50Speaker 2: for stardusters, right, so they like they worked, they vote
- 8:53Speaker 2: on him and say, oh, they had the best performance whatever.
- 8:56Speaker 2: And this kid won the thirteen year old division. So
- 8:59Speaker 2: that's going to be really cool. Maybe we'll even get
- 9:01Speaker 2: him to sing, maybe he can show off his wares
- 9:03Speaker 2: a little bit. Yeah, who knows.
- 9:05Speaker 3: And by the way, Kevin, when Ellen Stardusteiner put the
- 9:08Speaker 3: competition when they opened it, they said that they would
- 9:11Speaker 3: close the competition once they reached three hundred and fifty
- 9:14Speaker 3: applicants or you know, probably in two weeks or so,
- 9:18Speaker 3: they had a date in the future. They had to
- 9:19Speaker 3: close it within twenty four hours, but I think they
- 9:22Speaker 3: got over five hundred. That is how popular Ellen Stardustner is.
- 9:27Speaker 3: And also thanks to Ellen and the team there for
- 9:30Speaker 3: doing this, because it really the Junior Starduster is tied
- 9:34Speaker 3: into Kids Night on Broadway, which is so important that
- 9:38Speaker 3: the Broadway League does to do half price tickets or
- 9:41Speaker 3: buy one, get one. It's a two for program to
- 9:45Speaker 3: introduce kids to Broadway. So it's helping future generations enjoy.
- 9:50Speaker 3: You know, really, what is our national Well, New York
- 9:52Speaker 3: City's major you know performing arts.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's all straight ahead. She's Christine and I'm Kevin,
- 10:00Speaker 2: and don't go anywhere.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Now from New York back to Radio Night Life. Yours
- 10:09Speaker 1: Kevin mccollor.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Welcome. It is Radio Night Live, the Fun Friday Edition.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And as we said in the open, I'm back. And
- 10:19Speaker 2: you know, I couldn't take a ton of responsibility for
- 10:22Speaker 2: what happened last week. That was all you know, Christine
- 10:24Speaker 2: and Tom and Tanika and Ab and their tom foolery.
- 10:28Speaker 2: But now we're back, So now we've got to get
- 10:31Speaker 2: down to business.
- 10:32Speaker 3: So the right way.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Christine, thanks for filling in for me last week and
- 10:35Speaker 2: giving me that little opportunity to be away. We've got
- 10:39Speaker 2: a returning special guest. Why don't you introduce her you.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Well, thank you, Kevin. We're so pleased to welcome back.
- 10:46Speaker 3: And it's been a little bit of time now, but
- 10:49Speaker 3: Nastasia Welter with Summit one Vanderbilt. And what's so exciting
- 10:53Speaker 3: is Summit has been now open for five years. I
- 10:57Speaker 3: cannot believe it because they opened up like right at
- 11:00Speaker 3: the tail end of COVID, so we were all in
- 11:02Speaker 3: our you know, in our bubbles and whatnot. But Nastasia,
- 11:06Speaker 3: you are celebrating a special anniversary as well, which is
- 11:10Speaker 3: twenty five years in the hospitality industry. So we thank
- 11:14Speaker 3: you so much and congratulate you for all the fine
- 11:17Speaker 3: work that you are doing to help bring visitors to
- 11:21Speaker 3: New York City. So let's talk about let's talk about
- 11:23Speaker 3: Summit awesome.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Well, thank you so much for welcoming me back.
- 11:27Speaker 5: It's such a pleasure to be with you, Christine, Kevin
- 11:30Speaker 5: and the entire team. My name is Nastasia Velt. I'm
- 11:35Speaker 5: the VP of SOS at Summit One. Vendor built the
- 11:38Speaker 5: now number one attraction in New York City, which we
- 11:41Speaker 5: are very, very proud and happy. We are about to
- 11:45Speaker 5: celebrate our fifth anniversary being open. As you mentioned, Christine,
- 11:50Speaker 5: we opened literally like in the entail of COVID, we
- 11:55Speaker 5: open in October twenty one, twenty twenty one.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Very challenging timing for the entire.
- 12:02Speaker 5: Industry, for the world, of course, but it's been five
- 12:06Speaker 5: incredible years. And with that, I'm also celebrating twenty five
- 12:11Speaker 5: years in this industry that I love and adore. I
- 12:15Speaker 5: typically say that I did not choose this industry. This
- 12:18Speaker 5: industry shows me.
- 12:20Speaker 4: And I am.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I have a deep amount of respect and love for
- 12:24Speaker 5: every single body that makes this industry so special. I
- 12:29Speaker 5: typically say that we're not in the business to sell
- 12:32Speaker 5: a ticket, at least here at Summer One Vendorbilt. We're
- 12:35Speaker 5: in the business to make sure that every single gas
- 12:38Speaker 5: comes and they have a memorable time with us and
- 12:41Speaker 5: make their memories and happiness with us. And that's how
- 12:45Speaker 5: I see our entire industry.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Well, it is a great industry to be in. But
- 12:51Speaker 3: tell us, you know, twenty five years and you've been
- 12:55Speaker 3: representing brands like Disney and City Site seeing what was
- 12:59Speaker 3: the first job that you were offered in the hospitality
- 13:02Speaker 3: industry and where was it.
- 13:04Speaker 5: My very first job was actually in a hotel back home.
- 13:07Speaker 4: I'm from Saint Paulo, Brazil.
- 13:10Speaker 5: I was just looking for some sort of like you know,
- 13:13Speaker 5: first type of work, an internship, and then I have
- 13:17Speaker 5: been accepted to work in a front desk in a
- 13:20Speaker 5: hotel in San Paolo, and I was just mesmerized with
- 13:24Speaker 5: the amount of different passports that I would see on
- 13:27Speaker 5: a daily basis, people coming from Italy, people coming from the.
- 13:31Speaker 4: United States, from Japan, and I was like, wow, this
- 13:34Speaker 4: is so cool.
- 13:35Speaker 5: You get to like, you know, interact with all of
- 13:37Speaker 5: these incredible different cultures. So that was my very first job.
- 13:42Speaker 5: It was an internship in a hotel in St.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Paolo.
- 13:45Speaker 5: And then I've worked as a concierge for the Number
- 13:51Speaker 5: one luxury shopping mall and Saint Paulo, so I was
- 13:54Speaker 5: their head of concierge. And then I applied to work
- 13:59Speaker 5: at Disney and I was there for a few years
- 14:03Speaker 5: on different occasions. I started as an international college program,
- 14:08Speaker 5: so just right off the off college, I worked at
- 14:14Speaker 5: Magic Kingdom as a call a merchantainment over at the
- 14:19Speaker 5: emporium store. So I was a merchandise with entertainment, and
- 14:24Speaker 5: then I went back there to be a guest services
- 14:28Speaker 5: ambassador a few years later, and it's being an incredible journey.
- 14:35Speaker 4: And that's how I was in Florida for for a
- 14:40Speaker 4: few years.
- 14:40Speaker 5: Right after Disney, I worked for a hotel called the
- 14:43Speaker 5: Castle Hotel, right on International Drive. I was the services
- 14:49Speaker 5: conference or conference services manager, dealing with not only the
- 14:55Speaker 5: events portion, but as well as like groups, block and
- 14:58Speaker 5: all of that. And that's how how I was presented
- 15:01Speaker 5: to sales, and I fell in love with it.
- 15:04Speaker 4: I love to see the numbers.
- 15:06Speaker 5: I love to see the up selling the right product.
- 15:09Speaker 4: To the right audience.
- 15:11Speaker 5: I truly fell in love with that overall side of
- 15:15Speaker 5: the business. And the best thing about working for a
- 15:18Speaker 5: hotel is that you can plan as much as you
- 15:21Speaker 5: want to. By the time that the group or the
- 15:23Speaker 5: guests comes, everything is different, They have different needs, they
- 15:27Speaker 5: need different things, and you're right away maneuvering everything. So
- 15:32Speaker 5: routine is definitely not part of like what you do dated, No, two.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Days are exactly the same.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Exactly, Kevin, It's and every single group has different needs
- 15:44Speaker 5: and ones and desires, so very very interesting side of
- 15:50Speaker 5: our industry really incredible. I loved my hotel days. They
- 15:54Speaker 5: were absolutely incredible. And then from the hotel, I went
- 15:59Speaker 5: to work for a tour operator that was dedicated to
- 16:04Speaker 5: the Portuguese speaker audience. So I was there for a
- 16:08Speaker 5: couple of years, and then they transferred me to New
- 16:10Speaker 5: York because they are group. And then they were like,
- 16:14Speaker 5: we need to open up a base in the East
- 16:17Speaker 5: Coast Philadelphia, New York, Washington, d C. Like those really
- 16:24Speaker 5: big vascinations for like the Brazilian market and some other
- 16:28Speaker 5: Portuguese speaker countries. So I was transferred to New York
- 16:33Speaker 5: as the general manager of the tour operator office here
- 16:39Speaker 5: and I was here for I was on that position
- 16:41Speaker 5: for a few years, I want to say.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Four or five years or so.
- 16:45Speaker 5: And then I started working with my beloved amazing friend
- 16:50Speaker 5: Ken Barrows as their director of sales at what we
- 16:54Speaker 5: call the New York Pass and at the.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Leisure Pass, that's correct.
- 17:00Speaker 5: H So back on my sales head which I love
- 17:04Speaker 5: the most, and then sightseyn Paths and four or five well,
- 17:10Speaker 5: no actually more for six and a half years here
- 17:13Speaker 5: at Summitt one vender Bill as a VP of Sales.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Well, I asked Kevin this, and I know his story
- 17:20Speaker 3: having come from Texas to New York. H So as
- 17:24Speaker 3: a transplant into New York, you came at a sort
- 17:27Speaker 3: of a senior level. But what were you always hoping
- 17:31Speaker 3: to land in New York or was it a dream
- 17:33Speaker 3: of yours or what were your first impressions.
- 17:36Speaker 4: That's a fantastic question.
- 17:37Speaker 5: So back in Brazil, I remember that my mom she
- 17:41Speaker 5: used to have like a monthly signature of like a
- 17:46Speaker 5: some magazines. And I was little, I was like maybe
- 17:49Speaker 5: six or seven years old, and I love on a
- 17:52Speaker 5: monthly basis to just go pick up the magazines for her.
- 17:56Speaker 5: And one of these months it was the cover of
- 18:00Speaker 5: the magazine was Times Square, and I remember bringing the
- 18:04Speaker 5: magazine home and asking my mom, Mom, where istance and
- 18:09Speaker 5: she was like, it's no Vaiarchy, It's New York. And
- 18:14Speaker 5: my heart was beating like a little different. I was like,
- 18:17Speaker 5: they're talking about this place that I need to that
- 18:19Speaker 5: I need to check it out. And it was like
- 18:21Speaker 5: the all of the outdoors on Times Square, yellow cabs
- 18:25Speaker 5: and double deckers and like you know, people and that craziness,
- 18:30Speaker 5: and I was like, I need.
- 18:31Speaker 4: To go there one day. So then I applied to
- 18:35Speaker 4: work at Disney.
- 18:36Speaker 5: I went to Disney, and then I reapplied to work
- 18:38Speaker 5: at Disney, and then again just being there for for
- 18:42Speaker 5: for a few months, I then took the trip.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Of a lifetime.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Well it is. There's there's something magical about Times Square.
- 18:52Speaker 2: It's one of those reasons why I think people that
- 18:55Speaker 2: don't live here their entire life and come here feel
- 18:58Speaker 2: so connected to the city and a lot of ways
- 19:00Speaker 2: because it is that intersection of all of humanity. But
- 19:05Speaker 2: we're glad you're here, and we're going to take a
- 19:06Speaker 2: quick break and come back. We're going to talk more
- 19:08Speaker 2: about the Summit one Vanderbilt attraction, how it became the
- 19:12Speaker 2: number one attraction in New York City, and Neastasia Welter
- 19:17Speaker 2: is our guests and will continue just momentary.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And now from New York back to Radio Night Live.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Her Kevin McCulla.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Welcome back. It's Radio Night Live and we're talking about
- 19:33Speaker 2: some fun things to see and do if you're in
- 19:35Speaker 2: the area on this summer of occasion. Nastasia Welter is
- 19:41Speaker 2: our guest from Summit one Vanderbilt and the exhibition deck
- 19:47Speaker 2: there and all the things that they've got going on.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Christine Nicholas and Kevin McCall. Of course, glad to be
- 19:51Speaker 2: with you, Nastasia. You did something very amazing in five years,
- 19:57Speaker 2: you guys went from opening to becoming the number one
- 20:01Speaker 2: place in New York City. And that's a crowded field.
- 20:04Speaker 2: You've got a lot of things that are competing for
- 20:07Speaker 2: the for the eyeballs and the experience. How did you
- 20:09Speaker 2: guys do that?
- 20:10Speaker 5: Well, cannot share the secret, sauce, No, just kidding. I
- 20:13Speaker 5: think for us it was pretty much being it's a
- 20:19Speaker 5: new concept of observation deck. Right. We are not in
- 20:23Speaker 5: the business to just take guests on a fast elevator
- 20:27Speaker 5: to then take photos of the city and then take
- 20:30Speaker 5: this fast elevator down back to the streets of Manhattan.
- 20:35Speaker 5: Our idea has always been to be more of an immersive,
- 20:39Speaker 5: moti sensorial experience with the most incredible views of the city.
- 20:44Speaker 5: We truly have a perfect day like today, beautiful blue sky,
- 20:49Speaker 5: the sun is shining. It is pretty much the best
- 20:55Speaker 5: of like the views that.
- 20:56Speaker 4: We can offer.
- 20:57Speaker 5: But at the end, what we truly want our guests
- 21:00Speaker 5: to experience is to take their phones and turn it
- 21:03Speaker 5: into what's in the inside. And that's the reason why
- 21:07Speaker 5: we have partnered with a artist called Kenzo Kenzo Digital.
- 21:13Speaker 5: Kenzl was the one that created all of like the
- 21:15Speaker 5: mirrors and the reflections, and there's a storytelling concept for
- 21:21Speaker 5: our experience and Kevin, I can all wait to welcome
- 21:24Speaker 5: you to some we see how incredible the experience is well.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And I just want to point out this is three
- 21:33Speaker 2: whole stories of immersive stuff as you were just mentioning,
- 21:37Speaker 2: like the mirror exhibit where it's like endless angles that
- 21:40Speaker 2: can be examined, and then you've got like this really
- 21:43Speaker 2: yummy outdoor place to have cocktails. I'm always down for that.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Our food and beverage partner is Union Square, so you
- 21:53Speaker 5: know that the quality of the food will be absolutely delicious.
- 21:57Speaker 4: We just don't have the burgers, so yeah, one day.
- 22:03Speaker 5: But our cocktails are very seasonal, so like a day
- 22:07Speaker 5: like today, we are serving a Brazilian kyperinha as well
- 22:12Speaker 5: as like you know, delicious refreshing mocktail, so it's very seasonal.
- 22:18Speaker 5: We always try to go with like you know, what
- 22:21Speaker 5: the audience is looking for.
- 22:23Speaker 4: The food concept is absolutely delicious.
- 22:26Speaker 5: We have the five Borrels hot dog and it's absolutely
- 22:29Speaker 5: a killer it's really really good. But yeah, we have
- 22:33Speaker 5: three floors off this incredible and magical place.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It's too bad the only chef you could get to
- 22:39Speaker 2: do it was Danny Meyer. Like I was hoping you'd
- 22:43Speaker 2: aim to get somebody like well known or something, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 2: but that's all.
- 22:48Speaker 5: So we actually have an events floor that our chef
- 22:52Speaker 5: is Chef Daniel Ballued So can you you.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Got Balloon and Meyer in the same facility.
- 22:58Speaker 5: That's crazy, But yeah, all of our three floors. We
- 23:04Speaker 5: came up with this new concept of you coming to
- 23:08Speaker 5: take photos of what's in the inside.
- 23:10Speaker 4: As well as what's the outside.
- 23:13Speaker 5: I also think like the one of the reasons why
- 23:17Speaker 5: we have also been very successful was our overall approach
- 23:21Speaker 5: and how we easily identify an audience that truly was
- 23:25Speaker 5: looking for something new and cool to do, and it
- 23:29Speaker 5: truly was the New Yorkers. Meaning when you first walked
- 23:34Speaker 5: to Summit and you watch like a video of like
- 23:37Speaker 5: the overall experience, the words of the video is from
- 23:42Speaker 5: New Yorkers to New Yorkers, meaning this concept was created
- 23:47Speaker 5: from our hearts like New Yorkers, and I do consider
- 23:50Speaker 5: myself a New Yorker to New Yorkers. And on a
- 23:53Speaker 5: daily basis, the amount of high what we call like
- 23:57Speaker 5: hyper locals and locals that they come to visit Summit
- 24:00Speaker 5: and if they leave reviews such as you made me
- 24:03Speaker 5: fall in love with my city all over again. I'm
- 24:06Speaker 5: so glad I came to an attraction like yours. I
- 24:10Speaker 5: cannot wait to bring my friends and family that will
- 24:12Speaker 5: be visiting us.
- 24:13Speaker 3: You've got an event coming up to let's just touch
- 24:16Speaker 3: on the event real fast. It's on August nineteenth. It's
- 24:20Speaker 3: World Photography Day. So what can folks that come to
- 24:23Speaker 3: Summit one Vanderbilt experience on that day.
- 24:25Speaker 5: So we don't actually host a lot of like the
- 24:28Speaker 5: Sunrise event, we make it very special and the World
- 24:31Speaker 5: Photography Day was an easy way for us to identify
- 24:36Speaker 5: that this audience that is looking to come to do
- 24:38Speaker 5: something cool and different while they bring their cameras. So
- 24:43Speaker 5: it's August nineteenth. We have been hosting this event. This
- 24:47Speaker 5: is going to be our way fourth year.
- 24:49Speaker 4: It's always so doubt.
- 24:51Speaker 5: It's a super easy and manageable one guests who have
- 24:55Speaker 5: access to all three floors off Summit. We just have
- 24:57Speaker 5: like a very limited number of tickets that we make
- 25:00Speaker 5: it available, so very intimate. I guess get you watch
- 25:03Speaker 5: the beautiful sunrise in our city while they're taking photos
- 25:07Speaker 5: and making memories.
- 25:09Speaker 2: That's wonderful. If you want more info on that, friends,
- 25:11Speaker 2: you go to Summit ov, summit ov dot com, Summitt
- 25:17Speaker 2: s U, M M I t ov dot com. That's
- 25:20Speaker 2: summ at one Vanderbilt dot com, but some at ov
- 25:23Speaker 2: dot com. We'll get you there and you can get
- 25:25Speaker 2: your tickets and you can take part in that, or
- 25:27Speaker 2: just go any other time and have a beautiful experience. Nastasia,
- 25:31Speaker 2: thank you for being with us.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Thank you so much for having me back.
- 25:35Speaker 5: I wish you all lovely, lovely, we can come visit
- 25:38Speaker 5: summit all right, su at ov dot com coming right back. O,
- 25:45Speaker 5: what a little moonlight can do.
- 25:47Speaker 1: It's Radio night Life. Here's Kevin McCullough.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Welcome back to Times Square. Glad you're with us. It's
- 25:54Speaker 2: Radio night Live. She's Christin Nicholas, I'm Kevin McCullough and
- 25:57Speaker 2: Christine the Uh. There's something all going on at Ellen's.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I know this because if you watch Ellen's Instagram feed,
- 26:05Speaker 2: they've always got stuff going on. But we've got a
- 26:08Speaker 2: very special guest who just had a little bit of
- 26:11Speaker 2: fame and fortune in those confines himself. Why don't you
- 26:13Speaker 2: introduce our next.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Guest, Happy to Kevin. So, while you were away, Kevin
- 26:17Speaker 3: Ellen Stardusteiner put together a contest. It's called the Junior
- 26:22Speaker 3: Starduster and it's by different age groups and there was
- 26:26Speaker 3: a winner in the thirteen year old age group, Alejandro Christensen,
- 26:31Speaker 3: and he's joining us today first time on Radio Night Live.
- 26:34Speaker 3: We're so excited because not only did you win your
- 26:37Speaker 3: age category, but then you get to perform as an
- 26:41Speaker 3: Ellen's Starduster while a junior Starduster. Of course, I think
- 26:45Speaker 3: we have rules in New York State that will not
- 26:48Speaker 3: allow you to work at this age, so unless you're
- 26:51Speaker 3: a child actor. But that's going to be a lot
- 26:53Speaker 3: of fun, and that's going to also celebrate Broadway Kids'
- 26:56Speaker 3: Night Out, which is run by the Broadway League, and
- 26:59Speaker 3: that'll be on Tuesday, August twenty fifth. So Alejandro, welcome
- 27:03Speaker 3: and tell our audience how you want and what you
- 27:07Speaker 3: sang and what you plan on performing at Allen's. This
- 27:10Speaker 3: is very exciting.
- 27:12Speaker 6: Thank you so much. It was a huge honor to
- 27:15Speaker 6: be able to do this. I sang, I like it
- 27:19Speaker 6: from a Bronx Tale. It was a really fun piece,
- 27:25Speaker 6: and I just love that character of c you know,
- 27:30Speaker 6: he got the swagger and it was just such an
- 27:33Speaker 6: honor to do that because everyone there was just so talented.
- 27:37Speaker 7: So yeah, I'm very excited.
- 27:39Speaker 2: When did you first know, Alejandro, that you were that
- 27:42Speaker 2: you had a degree of skill and that you really
- 27:45Speaker 2: wanted to pursue singing?
- 27:47Speaker 6: Well, I realized that, like it started for me in
- 27:51Speaker 6: like the pandemic, because during the pandemic.
- 27:55Speaker 7: In like second grade, it was music class.
- 27:59Speaker 6: Actually there was zoom music class, and our music teacher
- 28:02Speaker 6: would like send us like a music video and for
- 28:07Speaker 6: us to sing along to and I would sing along
- 28:10Speaker 6: to it, and my mom would record it and she
- 28:13Speaker 6: thought I sounded pretty good. So she encouraged me to
- 28:16Speaker 6: do my fourth grade talent show and I absolutely adored it,
- 28:20Speaker 6: and so after that I did my fifth grade talent
- 28:23Speaker 6: show and then from there I kind of just fell
- 28:25Speaker 6: in love with performing altogether.
- 28:27Speaker 7: And then I asked her if there was anything.
- 28:29Speaker 6: Else I could do to like sing, I'm like do this,
- 28:32Speaker 6: and she submitted me for a cabaret that I auditioned
- 28:36Speaker 6: for and I got in, and now here we are
- 28:40Speaker 6: and I've done like twenty plus cabarets, and yeah, that's
- 28:43Speaker 6: kind of how I'm here.
- 28:45Speaker 2: They have cabaret for kids, Christine, I'm not familiar with this, why.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Ann Alejandro could explain that, And it's not quite for kids,
- 28:55Speaker 3: but go ahead and tell them.
- 28:57Speaker 6: It's not a kid's only cabaret. It's like it's an
- 29:02Speaker 6: adult's cabaret.
- 29:03Speaker 7: But they also allow.
- 29:04Speaker 6: Kids, and yeah, it's very exciting. There are usually many
- 29:09Speaker 6: kids in it though.
- 29:10Speaker 3: It's at don't tell Mama, and it's a it's a
- 29:12Speaker 3: contest and you keep winning, so you keep moving to
- 29:15Speaker 3: the next week. And you've been doing this for quite
- 29:18Speaker 3: some time now, so we're wishing you all the best.
- 29:21Speaker 6: So my cabaret and the contest we're in are actually
- 29:25Speaker 6: two separate things. They're both they're run by two different companies.
- 29:28Speaker 2: So you gotcha nice. So let me ask you this, Alejandro,
- 29:32Speaker 2: what style of music do you most enjoy singing?
- 29:36Speaker 1: So?
- 29:36Speaker 6: I don't really have a favorite, because I love like
- 29:39Speaker 6: basically everything, but I do have some like ones I
- 29:42Speaker 6: like more than others, like pop, some jazz like uh
- 29:47Speaker 6: and from time to time I do like to sing
- 29:49Speaker 6: like the Broadway Special, like the Big belty things.
- 29:53Speaker 3: But yeah, well, what were the two songs that you
- 29:56Speaker 3: sang that at your talent show? And also we know
- 30:00Speaker 3: what you're saying at Ellen's mister c from a Bronx Tail.
- 30:04Speaker 3: But what will you be singing when you are a
- 30:07Speaker 3: junior starduster on August twenty fifth.
- 30:10Speaker 6: I do think I will be singing that song because
- 30:12Speaker 6: I think it's really fun, really interactive. Also I could
- 30:17Speaker 6: like give a few high fives or something.
- 30:20Speaker 7: I think it's going to be really fun.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Do you find the walking amongst the crowd and being
- 30:25Speaker 2: in that kind of immersive environment the same or better
- 30:29Speaker 2: or more fun than being on stage?
- 30:31Speaker 6: I do think it's more fun because it's like a stage,
- 30:35Speaker 6: except you also get to like entertain the audience, And
- 30:39Speaker 6: in my opinion, I think entertaining the audience is like
- 30:43Speaker 6: entertaining to yourself.
- 30:45Speaker 7: You're happy when other people.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Are happy, said like a seasoned entertainer if I've ever
- 30:50Speaker 2: heard one. Hey, so I have a question. I didn't
- 30:52Speaker 2: ask anybody. I didn't ask the producers, I didn't ask
- 30:54Speaker 2: your mom, I didn't ask Christine, But I'm going to
- 30:56Speaker 2: ask anyway, could you do a bit of your number
- 30:59Speaker 2: four US without any instruments behind you.
- 31:02Speaker 7: Well, sure, yeah, if I could.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Lay it honest, Jared's from the top, just from the top.
- 31:08Speaker 7: Everywhere I go.
- 31:10Speaker 6: Up and down the street, everyone's my buddy, They're phoning
- 31:14Speaker 6: at my feet.
- 31:16Speaker 7: I'm more than a kid. I'm part of the game. Then,
- 31:20Speaker 7: oh where I'll go home with? And my name the cola?
- 31:24Speaker 6: See I lacked cool as can be? Yeah, lucky walking
- 31:31Speaker 6: saw Field, Fine, come on Avenue's mine and.
- 31:35Speaker 7: I lackey.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Wow. That was August twenty fifth. Come see that at
- 31:42Speaker 2: Ellen Stardust Diner.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Yup. And then also Alexandro, because mister c is chas
- 31:48Speaker 3: pmmonary from a bronx tail. We hope that you can
- 31:52Speaker 3: come up on September first to Arthur Avenue where we're
- 31:56Speaker 3: going to be hosting our show, our remote show at
- 31:59Speaker 3: Marri and there'll be a lot of folks who this
- 32:03Speaker 3: is where Chaz is from. You never know he may
- 32:06Speaker 3: be there, but we'd love to have you there and
- 32:09Speaker 3: and maybe you can sing that and some others.
- 32:12Speaker 2: You know, maybe we could get a little duet between
- 32:15Speaker 2: the two. Yeah, yeah, wouldn't that be crazy fun?
- 32:19Speaker 7: We would love that.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Alejandro Kristensen, this has just been a delight. It really is.
- 32:26Speaker 3: It's wonderful to see your your spunk, your style, your ambition,
- 32:32Speaker 3: the love that you have from your family. I just
- 32:35Speaker 3: you know, the fact that you're a Yankee fan doesn't
- 32:37Speaker 3: hurt either.
- 32:39Speaker 7: Can Can we mention where people can find out like
- 32:42Speaker 7: stuff he's doing?
- 32:43Speaker 3: Yes, of course, of course.
- 32:45Speaker 7: So his Instagram handle.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Is Alejandro in the City, so at Alejandro in the City,
- 32:51Speaker 5: and we post full versions of his performances at his
- 32:55Speaker 5: YouTube which is also at Alejandro in the City.
- 32:57Speaker 2: All right, that's that's Alejandro's mom. If you didn't figure
- 33:00Speaker 2: that out. She's very proud mama, which is she should be.
- 33:03Speaker 2: All Right, Hey, the best to both of you, and
- 33:05Speaker 2: hopefully you can join us on September first, Yes, all right,
- 33:09Speaker 2: Kevin mccallay and Christy Nicholas coming back. She's got tips
- 33:12Speaker 2: for your weekend. Don't go anywhere.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Once again from New York. Here's Radio Night Live and
- 33:24Speaker 1: Kevin McCulla welcome back.
- 33:27Speaker 2: It is Radio Night Live, the Fun Friday Edition. If
- 33:31Speaker 2: we can come up with a better name for it
- 33:33Speaker 2: at some point, we will, but until then we're just
- 33:34Speaker 2: gonna keep having fun on Friday. That's how it works.
- 33:38Speaker 2: It has been fun, and you've got fun for that,
- 33:41Speaker 2: You've got fun for the whole weekend. So what's going on.
- 33:44Speaker 3: First of all, we want to thank Nastasia Welter from
- 33:46Speaker 3: Summit one Vanderbilt. But if you want to catch that
- 33:48Speaker 3: sunrise from above New York City, it's Wednesday, August nineteenth,
- 33:53Speaker 3: five am to eight am. It's at Summit which is
- 33:57Speaker 3: forty five East forty second Street. You do, you have
- 34:00Speaker 3: to sign up in advance so you can go to Summit.
- 34:04Speaker 2: OV summitov dot com.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, thank you. And if you prefer to stay
- 34:09Speaker 3: grounded and maybe see some grounders, you can go to
- 34:12Speaker 3: Yankee Stadium. Yeah, you saw what I did. Keep in
- 34:16Speaker 3: mind you've got Old Timer's Day on Saturday. And then
- 34:20Speaker 3: looking ahead, we have September eleventh is going to be
- 34:23Speaker 3: a very special game at Yankee Stadium. It's a Subway
- 34:27Speaker 3: series against the Mets, but it's also marking the twenty
- 34:31Speaker 3: fifth commemoration of September eleventh and remembering that. And by
- 34:36Speaker 3: the way, the Yankees have done so much, They did
- 34:38Speaker 3: so much after nine to eleven that I do want
- 34:41Speaker 3: to thank Randy Levine and hopefully he can come on
- 34:43Speaker 3: and tell us more about what they have planned for
- 34:45Speaker 3: September eleventh. For those Mets fans in the audience, you're
- 34:48Speaker 3: going to have to watch the Mets on TV or
- 34:51Speaker 3: on your streaming devices because they are playing the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 34:54Speaker 3: So let's see what happens with Paul Skeens. He's been
- 34:56Speaker 3: having some issues. But Paul Skeens, as much as I
- 35:00Speaker 3: would prefer the Mets to win, you got to love
- 35:02Speaker 3: what he's doing with the Gary Sinnese Foundation. Every time
- 35:04Speaker 3: he gets a strike out, the Gary Sinnese Foundation, which
- 35:06Speaker 3: does so much for our first responders and our military veterans,
- 35:11Speaker 3: they get a nice chunk of money from Paul Schemes.
- 35:14Speaker 3: So it's really great. Hey guys, it's restaurant Week, so
- 35:18Speaker 3: make sure you get your reservations. Go out enjoy the
- 35:20Speaker 3: wonderful restaurants. I went to Grand Brasserie last week. It
- 35:24Speaker 3: goes until August sixteenth. Some restaurants may be extending, so
- 35:27Speaker 3: you got to check it out. Go on NYC Tourism
- 35:30Speaker 3: dot com and you can get more information. It's also
- 35:33Speaker 3: Summer Streets in all five Burroughs that takes place tomorrow,
- 35:37Speaker 3: August eight. It starts at seven am to three pm.
- 35:39Speaker 3: This is when they close down the streets to all traffic.
- 35:42Speaker 3: They put in bouncy castles, slides, they let you, they
- 35:46Speaker 3: have dance parties. It's really a lot of fun. Abe.
- 35:50Speaker 3: We had a wonderful time with the interns yesterday going
- 35:53Speaker 3: to Broadway in Bryant Park. And every Thursday for the summer,
- 35:58Speaker 3: not every Thursday, because Thursday is the last day that
- 36:02Speaker 3: you can know is Broadway and Brian Park twelve thirty. Yes,
- 36:05Speaker 3: we want to thank Jonathan from AMDA who they put
- 36:09Speaker 3: this on. It really is fantastic. So next Thursday in
- 36:13Speaker 3: Briant Park, who do we have coming? Abe? What are
- 36:15Speaker 3: the Broadway shows? Do you know?
- 36:16Speaker 8: We're gonna have one of Visa's Social Club which, fun fact,
- 36:19Speaker 8: Alejandro and his mom Margarita performed at Don't Tell Mama
- 36:23Speaker 8: a couple weeks ago, so if you haven't checked out
- 36:26Speaker 8: his social media alhanjo in the City on Instagram, please
- 36:30Speaker 8: do that. That's an amazing performance. But they're gonna have
- 36:32Speaker 8: of course, you know the Book of Mormon, Great Gatsby,
- 36:35Speaker 8: so many great shows. The last Thursday is Christine mentioned,
- 36:38Speaker 8: so don't miss it Brian Park, right.
- 36:40Speaker 3: And this Sunday at Empire City Casino. We have the
- 36:44Speaker 3: ice Bucket Challenge, very important. I'm glad they're doing it.
- 36:48Speaker 3: From twelve pm check in one thirty. Ice Bucket Josh
- 36:51Speaker 3: Nola will be there once again, and we do want
- 36:54Speaker 3: to remember Pat Quinn and all of the those who
- 36:59Speaker 3: are suffering from A This is one step towards research
- 37:02Speaker 3: and hopefully recovery. So thank you Empire City Casino.
- 37:05Speaker 2: In that we thank you and friends. We will see
- 37:08Speaker 2: again next Friday.
