- 0:59Speaker 2: am chatting with the ever lovely Lindsay Arnold. She is
- 1:02Speaker 2: known by many for her time dancing on Dancing with
- 1:07Speaker 2: the Stars. She is also the founder of a new
- 1:11Speaker 2: workout program called the Movement Club. Thing of the Movement
- 1:15Speaker 2: Club as your quick hit BFF, It's got one hundred
- 1:19Speaker 2: and twenty five plus workouts that are all thirty minutes
- 1:23Speaker 2: or less, ranging from dance, cardio, and pilates to hit
- 1:27Speaker 2: yoga and stretching. In today's episode, Lindsay talks to me
- 1:30Speaker 2: about her motivation for getting into the workout space at
- 1:35Speaker 2: this point, getting her certification over the pandemic, currently also
- 1:38Speaker 2: working on her pre and post natal studies, really hoping
- 1:43Speaker 2: to help women everywhere prioritize movement and encourage them to
- 1:48Speaker 2: make time for themselves.
- 1:50Speaker 3: She also fills me.
- 1:52Speaker 2: In on all of the backstory about what it was
- 1:55Speaker 2: like for her coming up over the last ten years
- 1:58Speaker 2: with Dancing with the Stars, as well as how it
- 2:02Speaker 2: felt to go to work during the pandemic, what was
- 2:05Speaker 2: different about that season versus the seasons that came before.
- 2:09Speaker 2: She also gets brutally honest about how she feels about
- 2:12Speaker 2: her past dance partners, as well as the toll that
- 2:17Speaker 2: it has taken for her to open up about her
- 2:19Speaker 2: life beyond dancing on social media. It's something that she
- 2:23Speaker 2: is so grateful for the opportunity to share everything from
- 2:26Speaker 2: her life as a mom to what she's eating, what
- 2:29Speaker 2: she's doing, where she's going, how she's hanging.
- 2:31Speaker 3: You get the drift.
- 2:32Speaker 2: But it was a big pivot, and that pivot came
- 2:35Speaker 2: with a fair amount of criticism. Which she speaks candidly,
- 2:39Speaker 2: has been.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Pretty tough to handle. To say that Lindsay is a
- 2:43Speaker 3: bright light.
- 2:44Speaker 2: For when we were talking, it was just truly felt
- 2:47Speaker 2: like I was sitting down with a girlfriend. She is
- 2:50Speaker 2: such a joy and I'm really happy that we were
- 2:53Speaker 2: able to make time to do this. Make sure, if
- 2:57Speaker 2: you're not doing so yet, you are following along with Hurdle.

- 3:31Speaker 2: Let's get to hurdling.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Today.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I am sitting down with Lindsay Arnold. She is known
- 3:49Speaker 2: for her fabulous dancing over on Dancing with the Stars.
- 3:53Speaker 3: She's also the creator of a new fitness platform called
- 3:58Speaker 3: The Movement Club. How are you doing, Jay Lin's.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm so good. I'm so excited to chat with you.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Thank you for having me, thank you for making the time.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I mean, you have nothing going on, running around after
- 4:09Speaker 2: one child, another one coming in not all that long.
- 4:14Speaker 3: How are you feeling.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I'm feeling really good but also crazy at the same time,
- 4:18Speaker 1: because yes, there's a lot going on, but I feel
- 4:21Speaker 1: like that's just life now. Like I feel like I
- 4:24Speaker 1: feel like there was a time perioder I was like, oh,
- 4:25Speaker 1: things will slow down, but no, like that's just life
- 4:28Speaker 1: and we're just keeping up and doing the best we
- 4:30Speaker 1: can every day. But it's been good. I'm feeling good.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm very excited. This pregnancy has been pretty much identical
- 4:38Speaker 1: to my first, so that's been nice because I just
- 4:40Speaker 1: feel like I'm like, I know what to expect.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah, knowing what to expect, I'm sure it can be
- 4:45Speaker 2: really helpful. And that makes it sound like your first
- 4:48Speaker 2: one went pretty easy, question mark.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So I don't really have anything to compare it to
- 4:55Speaker 1: other than what people tell me I was I'm I
- 4:59Speaker 1: won't say I'm lucky, because sometimes it's the most annoying thing. Ever,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and maybe this is TMI, but I cannot throw up,
- 5:04Speaker 1: Like body physically does not let that process happen. So
- 5:09Speaker 1: I avoided that completely in both of my pregnancy so far,
- 5:12Speaker 1: which I know can be miserable. But then there also
- 5:14Speaker 1: were times where I'm like, I feel like I feel
- 5:16Speaker 1: so much better if I could just do that. So
- 5:19Speaker 1: that's something that I'm like, I'm really grateful for. I
- 5:22Speaker 1: definitely have had moments where I just don't feel awesome,
- 5:25Speaker 1: but for the most part, and from what I've heard,
- 5:27Speaker 1: pregnancy can be, like I can say, like I am
- 5:29Speaker 1: on the luckier end. For sure. Nothing's easy about pregnancy,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but like, I think I have like a pretty good
- 5:35Speaker 1: situation going well.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I mentioned the other endeavors that you are working on
- 5:41Speaker 2: right now. If you were to label a bunch of
- 5:45Speaker 2: buckets being a mom, doing career stuff, working on this
- 5:50Speaker 2: fitness platform, et cetera, et cetera, do you feel like
- 5:52Speaker 2: there's one bucket that you're pouring into the most at
- 5:55Speaker 2: this point in time.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Oh gosh, I mean, here's the thing. I don't think
- 5:59Speaker 1: any thing will ever top how much I pour into
- 6:03Speaker 1: the bucket of motherhood, especially at this moment because it
- 6:07Speaker 1: is a twenty four to seven job. It's the one
- 6:09Speaker 1: thing that you can't really stop doing. I mean even
- 6:11Speaker 1: when I'm working, I mean literally actively right now, I
- 6:14Speaker 1: am just hoping that my daughter is actually napping in
- 6:17Speaker 1: her crib because that's what she's supposed to be doing,
- 6:20Speaker 1: but she's probably not. She could be just playing in there,
- 6:22Speaker 1: reading her book. So it's like, even when I'm working
- 6:25Speaker 1: and doing other things, like, motherhood is always kind of
- 6:28Speaker 1: just my It's kind of my bucket now. But I'm
- 6:30Speaker 1: so grateful for that and I love it. I'm also
- 6:32Speaker 1: grateful that I can do other things because it keeps
- 6:35Speaker 1: me sane. And then also growing a child really makes
- 6:38Speaker 1: it hard to not have that be part of your book.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I mean, I'm actively making a baby inside me all day.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So I feel like that is my main bucket. But
- 6:45Speaker 1: I truly believe that, like what makes that bucket so
- 6:48Speaker 1: good and what makes it work is the fact that
- 6:50Speaker 1: I have other things that I can apply in my
- 6:52Speaker 1: life and give myself to to help me, you know,
- 6:54Speaker 1: stay sane, and to give myself like something that I
- 6:58Speaker 1: can work on for me. And it's been very.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Very beneficial, definitely, So in terms of being very beneficial.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Talk to me a little bit about how, so, how
- 7:09Speaker 2: has it been something that's just been so good for you.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Well, if we talk about the Movement Club, my workout platform,
- 7:16Speaker 1: it has been life changing. So this has been something
- 7:20Speaker 1: that I've actually been doing. It's new in the sense
- 7:23Speaker 1: that I feel like we're really like, I'm really sharing
- 7:26Speaker 1: it in this platform and really trying to get it
- 7:28Speaker 1: out there and help people understand like this is what
- 7:31Speaker 1: I've created for you all, and I want you to join.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But it's been in the works for almost two years now.
- 7:36Speaker 1: It actually came about during my first pregnancy, which was
- 7:40Speaker 1: crazy because the fact that I decided to start a
- 7:43Speaker 1: fitness program while pregnant was just dumb, Like literally in
- 7:48Speaker 1: my mind, I was sitting there going like, why am
- 7:50Speaker 1: I doing this? Like, first of all, I'm actively gaining weight,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I'm actively like losing my six pack that everybody thinks
- 7:58Speaker 1: you have to have for a fitness platform. And that's
- 8:01Speaker 1: what drove me even more was those doubts of why
- 8:04Speaker 1: I shouldn't do it were the reason that I'm like, no,
- 8:06Speaker 1: that's why I have to do this, because it just
- 8:09Speaker 1: gave me this sense of like this is how life is.
- 8:12Speaker 1: This is probably how so many women feel like nervous
- 8:15Speaker 1: about body changes that naturally happen, whether you're pregnant or not,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and just maybe not feeling inadequate or feeling like there
- 8:21Speaker 1: wasn't a platform that helped them feel like there was
- 8:23Speaker 1: something that was going to meet them where they were at.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And that's what kind of inspired this. SO started creating
- 8:29Speaker 1: the program, and I tell everybody that I credit so.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I ended up. I had to have a C section
- 8:34Speaker 1: with my first pregnancy, and my recovery was I can't
- 8:38Speaker 1: compare it to anything because I've only had one, but
- 8:40Speaker 1: it was fairly easy considering what everybody prepared me for
- 8:43Speaker 1: and told me. And I credit all of that to
- 8:45Speaker 1: the fact that I moved my body throughout pregnancy. And
- 8:48Speaker 1: I don't say it's because I stayed in shape and
- 8:50Speaker 1: I was like this hardcore trained person my whole pregnancy,
- 8:53Speaker 1: but it was simply just because I kept moving my body.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And that's because I was actively creating this program as
- 9:00Speaker 1: filming workouts. I was staying consistent. I had something that
- 9:04Speaker 1: was holding me accountable and it was a game changer.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I believe it's why I feel like my body was
- 9:09Speaker 1: able to recover a little bit quicker after pregnancy. My
- 9:11Speaker 1: mental state stayed pretty strong throughout pregnancy, and I attribute
- 9:15Speaker 1: all of that to moving my body. So this has
- 9:18Speaker 1: been the biggest life changing thing for me, especially because,
- 9:22Speaker 1: like you mentioned, my life. I mean a lot of
- 9:23Speaker 1: people know me for being a dancer. That's what I've
- 9:26Speaker 1: done my whole entire life. And then when I started
- 9:30Speaker 1: having babies and things shifted, I found myself not dancing
- 9:34Speaker 1: as much naturally, like that wasn't going to be as
- 9:36Speaker 1: big of a part of my life as it could
- 9:38Speaker 1: have been before. And so finding new ways to move
- 9:40Speaker 1: my body and get that outlet has been so beneficial
- 9:44Speaker 1: for me.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Did you feel like you struggled during that transition or
- 9:49Speaker 3: were you excited to step into and own different parts
- 9:53Speaker 3: of your identity.
- 9:55Speaker 1: It was hard, but at the same time, I was
- 9:57Speaker 1: so ready. So I'm very grateful that my and I,
- 10:00Speaker 1: like we really took our time. I mean, we were
- 10:03Speaker 1: married for almost six years before we got pregnant, and
- 10:06Speaker 1: I was really happy that we took that time because
- 10:08Speaker 1: and I kind of like that was something I always
- 10:10Speaker 1: wanted to do because I knew I'm like, I don't
- 10:13Speaker 1: ever want to feel like I cut my you know,
- 10:15Speaker 1: career or my opportunities a little bit short just because
- 10:18Speaker 1: I wanted to start a family. But I knew I
- 10:20Speaker 1: wanted to have a family, so we really just like
- 10:23Speaker 1: took our time and waited until it wasn't like I
- 10:25Speaker 1: think I want to have kids. That was like, no,
- 10:27Speaker 1: we are ready. So the transition was hard in the
- 10:30Speaker 1: sense that like, yeah, like my identity was dance, was
- 10:33Speaker 1: dancing with the stars, like that is my that was
- 10:36Speaker 1: my whole life for a very very long time, so
- 10:39Speaker 1: that change can be scary. But I was also extremely
- 10:42Speaker 1: ready and super excited about the next chapter, so I
- 10:45Speaker 1: feel like that kind of like softened the shift a
- 10:48Speaker 1: little bit. But then finding I think the biggest thing
- 10:51Speaker 1: was then finding like my new identity and making sure
- 10:54Speaker 1: that like I didn't just hold on to that and
- 10:57Speaker 1: understood like change is good and find what's new. And
- 11:01Speaker 1: I still, of course dance is always going to be
- 11:03Speaker 1: a big and huge part of my life, but it's
- 11:05Speaker 1: been cool to kind of see how different parts of
- 11:07Speaker 1: me have come out since then.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I feel like you're leading me to ask whether or
- 11:12Speaker 2: not you foresee picking up dance in the same way
- 11:16Speaker 2: in the years to come.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So here's the thing. I didn't do this last season
- 11:20Speaker 1: of Dancing with the Stars because it just didn't really
- 11:22Speaker 1: work out with timing with our family. But I've never
- 11:24Speaker 1: closed the door ever, and I don't think I ever will.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Like I said, like dance, I'm it's not my only identity,
- 11:31Speaker 1: but it will always be like it's always going to
- 11:34Speaker 1: be me. That's something that is my passion, my love.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Like one of my first loves was dance. So I
- 11:40Speaker 1: always see myself if I don't go back to that
- 11:42Speaker 1: exact thing something else, Like, I just don't think there's
- 11:45Speaker 1: any way that it will ever be out of my life.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And yeah, I definitely have not closed the door on
- 11:50Speaker 1: Dancing with the Stars. I just think it's going to
- 11:53Speaker 1: have to be the right time for me and my
- 11:54Speaker 1: family for me to go back. So we'll see kind
- 11:56Speaker 1: of what happens. And truly, I just kind of take
- 11:58Speaker 1: it one season out of time and see where we're.
- 12:01Speaker 2: At, one season at a time, one step at a time.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You said a great word before in accountability for you,
- 12:08Speaker 2: how did you stay accountable when working out started to
- 12:14Speaker 2: feel more challenging for you during your pregnancy journey.
- 12:20Speaker 1: So a lot of things helped me. One was that
- 12:22Speaker 1: I was literally like I kind of had to because
- 12:24Speaker 1: I had committed to creating this program, and I'm like,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'm going to be consistent. I'm going to put new
- 12:28Speaker 1: videos out every single week. So in the beginning, I
- 12:30Speaker 1: feel like it was that like necessity, But then it
- 12:33Speaker 1: had to become a mental switch for me because, like
- 12:36Speaker 1: I mentioned, it's like there was this weird kind of
- 12:38Speaker 1: imposter syndrome of like, why am I filming videos when
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'm gaining weight and I'm losing my abs as I
- 12:45Speaker 1: should be with pregnancy, Like that is exactly what should
- 12:49Speaker 1: be happening. But it was this imposter syndrome of like
- 12:52Speaker 1: why am I doing Like like I should be in
- 12:53Speaker 1: the best shape of my life if I'm going to
- 12:55Speaker 1: be teaching and instructing people how to work out. But
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's where I learned the shift of movement is for
- 13:01Speaker 1: me now so much less about how it's actually not
- 13:05Speaker 1: at all about how my body looks because of the
- 13:07Speaker 1: way I move. It's about how it makes me feel
- 13:10Speaker 1: and how mentally it can take me through the challenges
- 13:13Speaker 1: of motherhood, the stresses of work life. So it was
- 13:17Speaker 1: a real kind of mentality switch that I feel like
- 13:20Speaker 1: has been what has held me accountable. It's knowing that
- 13:22Speaker 1: I am a better mother, a better wife, a better
- 13:25Speaker 1: business woman, just an all around better human when I
- 13:28Speaker 1: actively move my body and stay consistent with that. And
- 13:32Speaker 1: I think it's been really good to have that switch,
- 13:34Speaker 1: and I hope that my program can do that for people,
- 13:37Speaker 1: because unfortunately, I think a lot of the focus is
- 13:39Speaker 1: just so much on what it's going to make us
- 13:41Speaker 1: look like or how much weight we're going to lose,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and that's just not what I'm about at all.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think something else really great for us
- 13:48Speaker 2: to touch on here would be answering the question, well,
- 13:52Speaker 2: how do I move when I feel like I just
- 13:55Speaker 2: don't have it in the tank? What do you say
- 13:57Speaker 2: to members of your community come to you feeling like
- 14:01Speaker 2: they are just not in the place to move their body,
- 14:05Speaker 2: not in the place to get after it.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I relate to this so much, and only since I've
- 14:11Speaker 1: had babies. Before babies, I would say like I was
- 14:14Speaker 1: always in my kind of tip top athletic shape. I
- 14:17Speaker 1: was dancing consistently, I didn't really have down seasons, and
- 14:21Speaker 1: it wasn't until I became pregnant that I understood that
- 14:24Speaker 1: feeling fully those weeks that go by where you're like
- 14:28Speaker 1: I can't do anything, whether that's because you have no energy,
- 14:32Speaker 1: you feel awful, or because you feel super defeated like
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'm not good enough, I'm already too far into the hole.
- 14:39Speaker 1: There's no way I'm going to get out. And something
- 14:41Speaker 1: I've really tried to just like emphasize to my community
- 14:45Speaker 1: and through this platform is to start and give yourself
- 14:48Speaker 1: little goals to begin with. I think we can get
- 14:50Speaker 1: so overwhelmed with if I'm not working out every single
- 14:54Speaker 1: day for at least an hour, then I've failed and
- 14:57Speaker 1: I might as well just not even do it. And
- 14:59Speaker 1: I hate that because anything you can do in your day,
- 15:02Speaker 1: literally if it's five minutes, I believe that is something
- 15:05Speaker 1: to be a proud of and be is going to
- 15:07Speaker 1: be beneficial for your health. So that's something that I
- 15:10Speaker 1: really emphasize in this program and is why the structure
- 15:13Speaker 1: of my program is the way that it is. I
- 15:15Speaker 1: have workouts that range from as quick as five minutes,
- 15:18Speaker 1: ten minutes, fifteen minutes, and actually my longest workout is
- 15:21Speaker 1: thirty minutes long because in my life and in my opinion,
- 15:25Speaker 1: I think sometimes less can be a lot more. I
- 15:27Speaker 1: think giving ourselves smaller goals and not overwhelming ourselves with
- 15:30Speaker 1: these crazy things that we have to do every single day,
- 15:33Speaker 1: it then in turn kind of helps you get it
- 15:36Speaker 1: done even more. So, the biggest thing I can say
- 15:38Speaker 1: to people is if they're scared about starting their fitnised journey,
- 15:42Speaker 1: if they're feeling like they're not good enough, is to
- 15:44Speaker 1: just give yourself very very small, realistic goals, even if
- 15:47Speaker 1: that's moving your body five minutes for one day a week.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Start small so that you can give yourself something to
- 15:52Speaker 1: feel like you accomplished, and then move from there.
- 15:55Speaker 2: And that isn't accomplished, right, that's something to be celebrated.
- 15:58Speaker 2: You know.
- 15:58Speaker 3: This is a great place for me to plug.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Joe Holder recently came on the show and talked about
- 16:03Speaker 2: what he loves to talk about, which are exercise snacks,
- 16:05Speaker 2: and that there's so much benefit as you're saying here,
- 16:08Speaker 2: lindsay too, the opportunity we have each and every day
- 16:12Speaker 2: just to get up for ten minutes or five minutes,
- 16:14Speaker 2: or do something at eleven, something at two. Over time,
- 16:18Speaker 2: each of those little snacks, so to speak, really does
- 16:21Speaker 2: add up to a lot. So give yourself that grease
- 16:24Speaker 2: and move forward that way. I also really love what
- 16:27Speaker 2: you were saying about knowing that you as you were
- 16:32Speaker 2: at the time and as you are now in your body,
- 16:36Speaker 2: you are fine as you are, you are great as
- 16:38Speaker 2: you are, and that you understand that there is something
- 16:42Speaker 2: to be said for showing up as your authentic self,
- 16:44Speaker 2: not needing to be what society has deemed to be
- 16:48Speaker 2: quote unquote perfect, for being someone that's leading fitness that
- 16:53Speaker 2: can be really inspiring for some Have you had individuals
- 16:57Speaker 2: that have been motivators in inspirations, role models for you
- 17:01Speaker 2: as you're stepping into this new chapter.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, yes, I mean there are so many
- 17:07Speaker 1: people who just kind of inspire me to keep moving.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I've loved watching One of my favorite favorite people in
- 17:15Speaker 1: the fitness space is Megan Rup and honestly, she gave
- 17:18Speaker 1: me so much inspiration when she got pregnant because I
- 17:22Speaker 1: just looked at her as before as like this perfect
- 17:24Speaker 1: fitness specimen, and she was, and then she gets pregnant
- 17:28Speaker 1: and she goes through the same things that I had
- 17:30Speaker 1: gone through, and it was really cool to see her
- 17:33Speaker 1: still do her thing, and really, I feel like that
- 17:36Speaker 1: really kind of helps me overcome some of my negative
- 17:40Speaker 1: self talk to myself of like, you're not in the
- 17:42Speaker 1: best shape of your life, you should not be filming
- 17:44Speaker 1: workout videos, like just don't do it. So that was
- 17:47Speaker 1: really cool to see another person in that space kind
- 17:50Speaker 1: of doing something similar to me and just pushing through
- 17:53Speaker 1: and rocking it and knowing that, like she was going
- 17:55Speaker 1: through the body changes, the sicknesses, the difficulty that comes
- 17:58Speaker 1: with pregnant. So that was really cool to see somebody
- 18:00Speaker 1: else who kind of went through that huge change and
- 18:03Speaker 1: just continued pressing forward doing what she knew what she
- 18:06Speaker 1: needed to do.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Yeah, love Megan. She's been on the show before and
- 18:09Speaker 3: she's absolutely wonderful.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Now. You spoke about getting to a place where you
- 18:16Speaker 2: knew that you were ready to make this shift. You
- 18:18Speaker 2: also spoke about right before that time, feeling as though
- 18:21Speaker 2: you were truly in some of the best shape in
- 18:23Speaker 2: your life, that a lot of the challenges that you
- 18:25Speaker 2: faced once you became pregnant were challenges that you had
- 18:28Speaker 2: never experienced growing up. Did you always have an inclination
- 18:33Speaker 2: toward activity.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Yes, I mean always. I started dance when I was
- 18:39Speaker 1: about three and a half years old, and I never
- 18:42Speaker 1: stopped so, and when I say never stopped, meaning like
- 18:45Speaker 1: by the time I was eight, I was at dance
- 18:47Speaker 1: for five six hours every single day after school, always
- 18:51Speaker 1: moving my body, always doing things, and dance was that
- 18:56Speaker 1: was my way of moving. I really didn't do anything else.
- 18:58Speaker 1: So that was an interesting shift because when I graduated
- 19:01Speaker 1: high school and I wasn't necessarily doing the competitive dance
- 19:04Speaker 1: world anymore going to dance with the stars, and the
- 19:06Speaker 1: schedule kind of shifted. It wasn't until honestly that I
- 19:09Speaker 1: was like twenty twenty one where I actually started incorporating
- 19:11Speaker 1: like maybe going to the gym and doing workouts and
- 19:13Speaker 1: activity outside of just dancing, because that was my whole life,
- 19:17Speaker 1: My whole like movement regimen was dance. But yeah, that's
- 19:21Speaker 1: something that from a very young age I've always done
- 19:24Speaker 1: and eventually it was like my passion was to move
- 19:26Speaker 1: my body, but then it became my profession. That's how
- 19:28Speaker 1: I made money, that's how I provided for my family,
- 19:31Speaker 1: was moving my body and dancing.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 2: And so when you started to add other aspects of
- 19:38Speaker 2: fitness and strength work into your routine, did you see
- 19:41Speaker 2: a lot of challenges at first? Yes and no.
- 19:45Speaker 1: So one thing that was really interesting was I just
- 19:48Speaker 1: felt like, I think, up until that point, everything that
- 19:51Speaker 1: I did surrounding moving my body, I was very knowledgeable
- 19:54Speaker 1: about it. I knew everything there was to know about
- 19:56Speaker 1: dance by the time I was when I was in
- 19:59Speaker 1: my like after high, like, I felt very knowledgeable. I
- 20:01Speaker 1: knew how to choreograph, teach dance. I knew all the
- 20:03Speaker 1: different styles, all the different techniques. And then all of
- 20:06Speaker 1: a sudden, I'm like going to a gym and I'm
- 20:09Speaker 1: sitting there looking at everybody do their thing, and I'm
- 20:11Speaker 1: just like, oh my gosh, I have no idea what
- 20:14Speaker 1: I even do, where I even begin. So it was
- 20:18Speaker 1: kind of a scary place for me to be in
- 20:20Speaker 1: because it was like the first time where I felt like, uh,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I didn't necessarily know what I was supposed to be doing,
- 20:26Speaker 1: but I'm like, I want to do something, but I
- 20:27Speaker 1: don't really have the knowledge for it. So that's where
- 20:30Speaker 1: my desire for that knowledge began. So that was kind
- 20:34Speaker 1: of scary. But then also what was helpful, and I
- 20:36Speaker 1: think what has helped me a lot throughout this whole
- 20:39Speaker 1: this whole journey, is being very aware of my body,
- 20:42Speaker 1: being very in tune as far as like the way
- 20:45Speaker 1: your muscles work through injuries and all of those things.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think that knowledge from dance has been helpful, but
- 20:51Speaker 1: then also I have had to shift and learn a
- 20:53Speaker 1: lot of new things as well.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Right because over the pandemic, when you were concepting all
- 20:58Speaker 2: of this, you also went and got your personal training certification.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Yes, I did, and that has been so incredible. That
- 21:06Speaker 1: was so grateful, so great to do. And I'm actually
- 21:08Speaker 1: currently right now getting my pre and post natal certification,
- 21:11Speaker 1: which has been even more beneficial because I think that's
- 21:14Speaker 1: just something that can be very taboo, is movement while pregnant.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And I've been very grateful for the knowledge that I've
- 21:20Speaker 1: gained and like truly learning about what you can do,
- 21:23Speaker 1: because I think the Internet and everybody can scary you
- 21:25Speaker 1: with information. But it's been really cool to dive into
- 21:28Speaker 1: that knowledge.
- 21:29Speaker 2: So then to go back to your teenage years, you
- 21:32Speaker 2: actually started on so you think you can dance when
- 21:35Speaker 2: you auditioned at eighteen, do you remember what was going
- 21:39Speaker 2: through your head when you stepped on the stage for
- 21:43Speaker 2: your first audition.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Well, first of all, I didn't even want to go
- 21:47Speaker 1: to the audition. My mom dragged me there like practically
- 21:51Speaker 1: forced me. I was so angry with her because I
- 21:53Speaker 1: was like, Mom, this is so embarrassing. I'm not going
- 21:56Speaker 1: to make it, and then I'm gonna have to tell
- 21:57Speaker 1: all my friends I went to the audition and didn't
- 22:00Speaker 1: make it. But thank goodness that moms are just the
- 22:04Speaker 1: way they are, because she was like, Nope, you're doing it,
- 22:07Speaker 1: and we're going right now. And I remember, I think
- 22:10Speaker 1: I had very low expectations, but at the same time,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I was always a very very competitive person, so like
- 22:17Speaker 1: I went into it going like I'm probably not gonna
- 22:19Speaker 1: make it, but like in the back of my mind,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I'm going to give this my all,
- 22:22Speaker 1: Like I'm going for it. So it's kind of this
- 22:25Speaker 1: like fifty to fifty mentality, but very nerve wracking. And
- 22:29Speaker 1: it was the first time I'd really done anything outside
- 22:31Speaker 1: of like my little dance competition world at my dance studio,
- 22:35Speaker 1: so it was a definite like shift and it was scary,
- 22:38Speaker 1: but gosh, I am very grateful that I went for
- 22:41Speaker 1: it because that was the catalyst to my entire dancing
- 22:43Speaker 1: career for sure.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Which like goes on to be mega impressive. I mean
- 22:48Speaker 2: starting off right after so you think you can dance.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Going on the thirty City Tour, yes, So what was
- 22:57Speaker 3: that like at I mean, you were so young to
- 22:59Speaker 3: jump into something like.
- 23:00Speaker 1: That, so that was crazy. I have done I think
- 23:04Speaker 1: five tours now since then, but that first one was
- 23:08Speaker 1: something else because first of all, I'm eighteen. I have
- 23:14Speaker 1: never lived not at my home with my parents, and
- 23:17Speaker 1: now I am on a bus with like thirteen other
- 23:22Speaker 1: teenagers mid twenties, like, and we're just traveling the country.
- 23:27Speaker 1: We're dancing every single night, We're doing our laundry and
- 23:31Speaker 1: different like theaters, were kind of fending for ourselves, and
- 23:36Speaker 1: it was a very interesting time but also so fun.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Like I think back in some of those memories are
- 23:42Speaker 1: like the best ever, but when you're in it, you're like,
- 23:44Speaker 1: this is so hard, this is so rough. But I
- 23:46Speaker 1: look back and I'm like, that was such a fun,
- 23:49Speaker 1: pivotal time in my life and just a really cool
- 23:52Speaker 1: way to like interact. And I think the craziest thing
- 23:54Speaker 1: for me was being on the TV show was very cool.
- 23:57Speaker 1: But you're in a studio and I mean there's a
- 23:59Speaker 1: couple of people in the audience, so you don't really
- 24:02Speaker 1: grasp like the magnitude of what you're doing, but then
- 24:05Speaker 1: you go on tour and you fill theaters with thousands
- 24:08Speaker 1: and thousands of people and their fans and they're excited
- 24:10Speaker 1: to see you. And that's where I feel like I
- 24:13Speaker 1: kind of was like whoa, Like, this is actually pretty
- 24:15Speaker 1: cool what I'm able to do, and I'm really grateful that,
- 24:17Speaker 1: like my talent has brought me to this platform that
- 24:20Speaker 1: I've only dreamed about doing for so long. So it
- 24:23Speaker 1: was a very cool experience.
- 24:25Speaker 3: You grew up in Utah and you live in Utah now,
- 24:29Speaker 3: So in that experience being able to literally travel all
- 24:34Speaker 3: over the country, what do you recall as something that
- 24:37Speaker 3: was perhaps the most overwhelming part of it all.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Oh, I think, so I grew up in Utah and
- 24:45Speaker 1: all of my family is here, like, and I'm a
- 24:48Speaker 1: very family oriented, like huge homebody. I think the most
- 24:52Speaker 1: overwhelming part for me was being away from family for
- 24:55Speaker 1: so long. It was very tough for me. I think
- 24:59Speaker 1: it was just like, I think it was a mixture
- 25:00Speaker 1: of things of like being with people that I liked,
- 25:03Speaker 1: but it's not like they were my family, and they
- 25:04Speaker 1: were also new friends. Like all of them were people
- 25:06Speaker 1: that I had just recently met, and now I'm living
- 25:09Speaker 1: with them in close quarters. They were all so awesome,
- 25:12Speaker 1: but it's just I think there was a lot of
- 25:14Speaker 1: like just new things going on, and it was something
- 25:18Speaker 1: that I had to really learn because then from there
- 25:20Speaker 1: it was like I wasn't then home back in Utah
- 25:24Speaker 1: for almost five years after that. So I think it
- 25:26Speaker 1: was a good like tease to get me ready for Okay, hey,
- 25:29Speaker 1: like this is your moment. You got you gotta make
- 25:31Speaker 1: that jump and you gotta put on your big girl
- 25:33Speaker 1: pants and do this thing.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, ten years has passed since your first season of
- 25:39Speaker 2: Dancing with the Stars.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Where were you when you got that call?
- 25:44Speaker 1: I will never forget this because it was actually pretty insane.
- 25:47Speaker 1: So I had just gotten back from this, so you
- 25:50Speaker 1: think you can dance store? Maybe a month prior I
- 25:53Speaker 1: was home and I had had maybe maybe like two
- 25:56Speaker 1: conversations with the producers from Dancing with the Stars. One
- 25:59Speaker 1: of them initially be and like, we're kind of interested
- 26:01Speaker 1: in you for the season, Like is that something you'd
- 26:03Speaker 1: want to do, And it was like, yes, I am,
- 26:06Speaker 1: but then not like a ton of follow up after that,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and then another call where they're like, hey, like we're
- 26:11Speaker 1: trying to We're just like checking availability, making sure you're
- 26:14Speaker 1: still interested. Yes, okay cool. Then I get a text.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So all of this before was email, which email makes
- 26:19Speaker 1: it feel very like, you know, disconnected. You're just kind
- 26:21Speaker 1: of like, hey, they're probably sending this like a mass
- 26:23Speaker 1: email to a bunch of people. But then I remember
- 26:25Speaker 1: the day I get a text message from one of
- 26:27Speaker 1: the main producers and she was like, I need to
- 26:29Speaker 1: know this answer quick. How tall are you? I was like,
- 26:33Speaker 1: that's weird. Text back right away. Get a call two
- 26:36Speaker 1: minutes later. Hey, just wanted to let you know we
- 26:38Speaker 1: have a partner for you and we need you in
- 26:40Speaker 1: La tomorrow to start rehearsing with your partner. And I
- 26:45Speaker 1: was like, oh, I was like playing it so cool, Like, okay,
- 26:49Speaker 1: that's great, I'll be there, thank you. I hang up.
- 26:51Speaker 1: My mom and dad are in the room. We're sitting
- 26:53Speaker 1: in their kitchen and we're just like, what am I
- 26:57Speaker 1: gonna freaking do. I'm in Utah, I don't have an
- 26:59Speaker 1: apartment and I have no like I didn't even like
- 27:02Speaker 1: have that on my radar. Thankfully, they followed up and
- 27:05Speaker 1: they're like, we know this is the last minute we're
- 27:06Speaker 1: going to get you an apartment, but we do need
- 27:08Speaker 1: you down here? So I packed up my car that night.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I remember all of my boyfriend who is now my
- 27:14Speaker 1: husband at the time, and like a couple of our
- 27:15Speaker 1: friends came over to my house helped me pack up
- 27:18Speaker 1: literally basically my entire room because I'd be going down
- 27:20Speaker 1: there for about four months. Packed up my car, and
- 27:23Speaker 1: the next morning I drove the ten hour drive to
- 27:26Speaker 1: LA by myself and started rehearsing with my partner. It
- 27:30Speaker 1: was absolutely insane but so fun.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Where what area did you first move to?
- 27:35Speaker 1: So? I lived in West Hollywood pretty much the only time. Like,
- 27:39Speaker 1: that's the only place I lived in in California while
- 27:41Speaker 1: doing the show because they film in West Hollywood, so
- 27:44Speaker 1: it just makes sense to be there. I will say
- 27:46Speaker 1: that's probably not ever going to be my first choice
- 27:49Speaker 1: of living, but it makes sense for what I had
- 27:51Speaker 1: to do.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Why do you see that?
- 27:54Speaker 1: I think it goes back to I don't know. I
- 27:58Speaker 1: think I'm from Utah. I like open spaces, I like neighborhoods,
- 28:02Speaker 1: I like family vibe. None of that. In West Hollywood.
- 28:06Speaker 1: You are very close together. There is no grass literally anywhere.
- 28:10Speaker 1: So I think it was just the kind of a
- 28:11Speaker 1: culture shock for me. And like this is completely different,
- 28:14Speaker 1: but it also has a lot of really fun perks,
- 28:17Speaker 1: Like the food is absolutely incredible. And then I mean
- 28:20Speaker 1: that's where I do what I do, Like for what
- 28:23Speaker 1: I can get done there, it is incredible. And I
- 28:25Speaker 1: always say that I'm like, for what I was able
- 28:27Speaker 1: to do in in that space, I'm so so grateful.
- 28:30Speaker 1: But if I had my choice to live somewhere in California,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I don't think it would be West Hollywood.
- 28:34Speaker 3: It would definitely be somewhere closer to the beach or
- 28:36Speaker 3: something sounds about right.
- 28:38Speaker 2: So you had experience being on television with So You
- 28:42Speaker 2: Think You Can Dance? When you start dancing on Dancing
- 28:47Speaker 2: with the Stars, is it very different for you?
- 28:51Speaker 1: So yes, very different, only because the workload was completely
- 28:55Speaker 1: different than what I was used to on Soay. You think,
- 28:57Speaker 1: I'm very grateful for So You Think you Can Dance
- 28:59Speaker 1: because it kind of got my like my virgin dancing,
- 29:02Speaker 1: like non professional dancing mode out, Like I no longer
- 29:06Speaker 1: was someone who had never danced on TV before or
- 29:08Speaker 1: who had been interviewed on television. I feel like So
- 29:11Speaker 1: You Think You Can Dance was like my little mini
- 29:13Speaker 1: audition in preparation to do Dancing with the Stars because
- 29:15Speaker 1: the time. By the time that came around, I felt
- 29:17Speaker 1: way more confident, like talking on camera, dancing in front
- 29:22Speaker 1: of people watching on TV, like it was something that
- 29:24Speaker 1: didn't feel so foreign. But the workload was totally different.
- 29:28Speaker 1: And so you think you can dance. I was just
- 29:30Speaker 1: a dancer. I showed up, the choreographer told me what
- 29:33Speaker 1: to do, and I just went out and danced. And
- 29:35Speaker 1: I was also dancing with another dancer. So it was
- 29:38Speaker 1: very much similar to what I'd done growing up, Like
- 29:41Speaker 1: somebody gives me a piece of choreography and I perform
- 29:43Speaker 1: it the best that I can. On Dancing with the Stars,
- 29:46Speaker 1: it's totally different. It's I'm the teacher and I'm also
- 29:49Speaker 1: the dancer, and I'm also the choreographer. So I walk
- 29:51Speaker 1: into a room with someone who's never done this before.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I have to teach them how to do it after
- 29:55Speaker 1: I choreographed what we're going to do, and then I
- 29:57Speaker 1: also have to dance it with them, and then we
- 29:59Speaker 1: have to get judged on it, and people are going
- 30:00Speaker 1: to tell me if they think my choreography sucked or
- 30:02Speaker 1: if I'm a bad teacher. So it was a lot.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I would say a lot more pressure on Dancing with
- 30:09Speaker 1: the Stars because a lot of things fell on my shoulders,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and I mean, well pretty much everything fell on my shoulders.
- 30:14Speaker 1: So I would say it was very different in that way.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Very different in that way.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And then with this platform where you are on television
- 30:24Speaker 2: every week, you are also now at a point where
- 30:28Speaker 2: you're starting to open yourself up to criticism, something that
- 30:31Speaker 2: you know, you are very familiar with these days. What
- 30:34Speaker 2: have you learned over the years in handling unsolicited feedback, criticism,
- 30:40Speaker 2: so on and so forth.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. I will say that I'm grateful to
- 30:45Speaker 1: have had the practice I had back in the day,
- 30:48Speaker 1: because I mean, I feel like, back in twenty thirteen,
- 30:51Speaker 1: like social media was there, but it wasn't what it
- 30:54Speaker 1: is now. And I feel like the practice I got
- 30:57Speaker 1: in all of those years leading up to what we're
- 30:59Speaker 1: currently in now, social media is just this entirely new thing,
- 31:03Speaker 1: and the amount of criticism I receive on a daily
- 31:06Speaker 1: basis now is absolutely insane. And I think because of
- 31:09Speaker 1: those years prior, where I kind of got used to it,
- 31:11Speaker 1: it's been easier to handle it. I've always tried to
- 31:14Speaker 1: attack criticism with a bit of humor, and I think
- 31:17Speaker 1: that's something that's just kind of my personality. I know
- 31:20Speaker 1: that that's not always the way that people can take it,
- 31:22Speaker 1: but I always try to just kind of, you know,
- 31:24Speaker 1: see maybe a funny side to it, look at kind
- 31:26Speaker 1: of like the humor in it, like oh wow, like
- 31:29Speaker 1: I can't believe they took that much time to think
- 31:31Speaker 1: about that, or I can't believe they came up with that,
- 31:34Speaker 1: and try to kind of play it in that way.
- 31:36Speaker 1: But the biggest thing that I think has helped me
- 31:38Speaker 1: is just understanding and focusing more on the fact that
- 31:42Speaker 1: these people don't even know me at all, and the
- 31:46Speaker 1: only opinions that matter are the people who genuinely know
- 31:49Speaker 1: me and that are in my life because they love
- 31:51Speaker 1: me and they know who I am as a person
- 31:52Speaker 1: and they care about my well being, and so relying
- 31:55Speaker 1: on that and like putting my actual energy into those
- 31:59Speaker 1: opinions is what has saved me. And just understanding that
- 32:02Speaker 1: no matter what I do, people are going to have
- 32:04Speaker 1: an opinion. That's what I've learned. The crazy Like I
- 32:07Speaker 1: used to think that criticism came because if I was
- 32:11Speaker 1: doing something different then I wouldn't be getting that criticism.
- 32:13Speaker 1: But I've learned that no matter what I do, people
- 32:18Speaker 1: will find a way to criticize you if they want.
- 32:20Speaker 1: If that's what they are, energy is going towards, and
- 32:23Speaker 1: if that's the kind of person that they are, they
- 32:25Speaker 1: will find something. So don't worry myself over trying to
- 32:29Speaker 1: change things to avoid criticism or to avoid somebody commenting something.

- 34:50Speaker 2: saying that sentence makes me so excited and honestly, one
- 34:53Speaker 2: of my favorite parts is the post sweat Element that
- 34:57Speaker 2: I reach for every single time I am a I
- 35:02Speaker 2: know this is cute, super salty sweater, so I know
- 35:06Speaker 2: it is critical for me to replace the vital electrolytes
- 35:10Speaker 2: I lose through sweat, and that is exactly where Element
- 35:14Speaker 2: comes in.
- 35:14Speaker 3: It is so delicious.
- 35:16Speaker 2: It always boots my energy throughout the day and it

- 35:28Speaker 2: the other junk I'd find in conventional sports drinks, so
- 35:32Speaker 2: I do not have to worry about putting any harmful
- 35:35Speaker 2: ingredients into my body. My favorite flavor is their orange
- 35:39Speaker 2: salt Raspberry Salt close second. And the best part about

- 36:23Speaker 2: And I'll use air quotes here like the haters. But
- 36:26Speaker 2: was there an instance for you where you didn't feel
- 36:31Speaker 2: so shiny and strong that really made you change the
- 36:34Speaker 2: way that you handle your approach.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yes, so, actually this happened in my early years of
- 36:40Speaker 1: Dancing with the Stars, so it was a mixture of
- 36:43Speaker 1: criticism from online and also from people in the industry.
- 36:47Speaker 1: But I so on Dancing with the Stars, there are
- 36:49Speaker 1: two different kind of jobs roles that you can have
- 36:52Speaker 1: as a dancer. So you can go on and be
- 36:53Speaker 1: a professional dancer that gets paired with a celebrity partner,
- 36:57Speaker 1: or you can be a dancer that is kind of
- 36:59Speaker 1: like a backup so you don't get a partner, but
- 37:01Speaker 1: you're dancing in the episodes and you're kind of like
- 37:03Speaker 1: maybe in some of the group numbers or maybe in
- 37:06Speaker 1: the background of some of the people's dances. It's basically
- 37:08Speaker 1: like you're a background dancer. So my very first season
- 37:10Speaker 1: of the show, I got paired with a celebrity partner,
- 37:12Speaker 1: which is like the top, like, that's what you want,
- 37:14Speaker 1: that's the job you want. And then for the next like,
- 37:17Speaker 1: oh what was it? Four seasons after that, I got demoted,
- 37:20Speaker 1: as one would say, to the true position, which is
- 37:23Speaker 1: the background dancer. And that was a really really tough
- 37:26Speaker 1: time for me. Tough because a lot of people would
- 37:30Speaker 1: comment on it and be like, Oh, it's because she
- 37:31Speaker 1: wasn't good enough, she didn't do a good enough job
- 37:33Speaker 1: at the being a pro, or if she would have
- 37:35Speaker 1: done this, then she probably wouldn't have done that, or
- 37:37Speaker 1: messaging me telling me what I should be doing so
- 37:39Speaker 1: that I could be a pro again, like lindsay do
- 37:41Speaker 1: this this season so that you could do that. And
- 37:43Speaker 1: the feedback I got from the industry and from the
- 37:45Speaker 1: people kind of around me was that I didn't really
- 37:47Speaker 1: have like enough. I wasn't showing enough of my personality.
- 37:52Speaker 1: And that was really weird for me because I'm like,
- 37:54Speaker 1: what do you mean, Like, I'm just being myself? Like
- 37:58Speaker 1: how does one sh their personality if they're just being themselves?
- 38:02Speaker 1: Like it kind of put me in this weird headspace
- 38:05Speaker 1: and made me feel like I needed to maybe be
- 38:07Speaker 1: more of something. And I feel like for a while
- 38:10Speaker 1: there I kind of chase this like personality that I
- 38:12Speaker 1: thought everybody wanted me to be, and finally I was like, well,
- 38:16Speaker 1: screw it, because it's not working and I'm not happy
- 38:19Speaker 1: at all, So I'm just going to be myself and
- 38:22Speaker 1: just be confident in that, be happy in that. And
- 38:24Speaker 1: that's when I realized that it wasn't a lack of
- 38:26Speaker 1: like me not having enough personality. It was just me
- 38:28Speaker 1: genuinely going, you know what, like be yourself and don't
- 38:31Speaker 1: worry or care about what other people think. Have confidence
- 38:33Speaker 1: in yourself. No, you're enough and crazy enough that next
- 38:37Speaker 1: season I got brought back up to being a pro. Now,
- 38:40Speaker 1: I'm not saying that like that was a result of that,
- 38:43Speaker 1: and I don't and I'm also not saying that, like,
- 38:46Speaker 1: if you do everything right, you're going to get exactly
- 38:48Speaker 1: what you want out of your career. But for me,
- 38:51Speaker 1: it was such a good realization of understanding at that moment, like,
- 38:54Speaker 1: no matter what happens, I want to be happy. I
- 38:56Speaker 1: want to be content in who I am, and if
- 38:59Speaker 1: I if being me isn't enough, then this isn't the
- 39:02Speaker 1: right job for me. And that mentality I think changed
- 39:04Speaker 1: the game for me with my career, knowing that whatever
- 39:06Speaker 1: I step into, if I can be genuine to myself,
- 39:09Speaker 1: if it works out for me, then awesome. But if
- 39:10Speaker 1: it doesn't, then that means that this wasn't the right
- 39:13Speaker 1: job for me.
- 39:14Speaker 2: We all at times struggle with being like, let's call
- 39:19Speaker 2: it truly happy, right with avoiding negative self talk and
- 39:25Speaker 2: trying not to beat down that inner critic.
- 39:28Speaker 3: For you, what helped you.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Get more comfortable in your own skin and be your
- 39:37Speaker 2: authentic self?
- 39:39Speaker 1: I think it was a mixture of sort of being
- 39:42Speaker 1: fed up of trying so hard to be something I'm not.
- 39:45Speaker 1: I think I got to the like a breaking point
- 39:47Speaker 1: of just being like I am miserable, like I am
- 39:51Speaker 1: chasing something that isn't me, and then realizing like if
- 39:55Speaker 1: I change who I am to get something that I want,
- 39:59Speaker 1: am I even going to be happy once I get there?
- 40:01Speaker 1: Or am I just going to continue living inauthentically to
- 40:04Speaker 1: have this thing that I really want? And that was
- 40:08Speaker 1: a huge realization for me. Is just like understanding that
- 40:11Speaker 1: like feeling content and feeling authentic in your life is
- 40:15Speaker 1: more important than anything else. And yes, it might feel
- 40:19Speaker 1: good for a while for short term to get this
- 40:22Speaker 1: thing that you want and kind of maybe play a
- 40:24Speaker 1: role that you think is what you should be doing,
- 40:26Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, it's not long
- 40:27Speaker 1: term happiness and that's what we all need and what
- 40:29Speaker 1: we kind of strive for. So I think that was
- 40:33Speaker 1: a big I don't know, I feel like that was
- 40:35Speaker 1: a turning point. It's just kind of possibly just being
- 40:38Speaker 1: fed up with not being authentic. And also a huge
- 40:41Speaker 1: actor was my family, my then boyfriend but now husband
- 40:44Speaker 1: saying to me, like lindsay like, this is not you, like,
- 40:48Speaker 1: this is not you. Like even if this works out
- 40:50Speaker 1: for you the way that you want it to, like,
- 40:52Speaker 1: you're not happy. And I think that was something that
- 40:54Speaker 1: was really big. Is leaning on the people around you
- 40:57Speaker 1: who know you and listening to their advice and you know,
- 41:01Speaker 1: helping them keep you in check is something that's been
- 41:03Speaker 1: really beneficial for me in my life.
- 41:05Speaker 2: How did that stress manifest for you? How did it
- 41:09Speaker 2: play out or impact you.
- 41:12Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing was just my like literal
- 41:15Speaker 1: general overall well being and happiness, Like every day waking
- 41:18Speaker 1: up felt like kind of had like a cloud over me,
- 41:21Speaker 1: like I just was like a little like muted version
- 41:23Speaker 1: of who I truly was. And I also think it
- 41:26Speaker 1: affected my work, like I know it did. I know
- 41:29Speaker 1: it affected the way I was as a performer as
- 41:31Speaker 1: a dancer, because that confidence level wasn't necessarily there anymore.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I think it was like very shaded and just kind
- 41:38Speaker 1: of like trying to grasp whatever it could find, but
- 41:41Speaker 1: it wasn't there. And I think that it really affected
- 41:43Speaker 1: the way that I approached my job every single day.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And a huge thing for me was just getting stuck
- 41:49Speaker 1: in negativity. I one of the biggest factors was knowing,
- 41:52Speaker 1: like and recognizing like how negative I was about everything.
- 41:55Speaker 1: And what's crazy I think was at the time I
- 41:59Speaker 1: was doing still what is considered one of the most
- 42:02Speaker 1: incredible jobs to do as a dancer, and I was not.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I was taking it for granted in a way in
- 42:09Speaker 1: the sense that I don't think I was being grateful
- 42:11Speaker 1: for where I was because I was reaching so hard
- 42:14Speaker 1: to get to something else. And I hate that I
- 42:17Speaker 1: took any time being ungrateful for the position that I
- 42:20Speaker 1: was in.
- 42:21Speaker 3: I recently had a woman on the show.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Her name's Mina b and she talked a lot about
- 42:26Speaker 2: the concept that if you're not honest with yourself, then
- 42:29Speaker 2: you are bound for self sabotage. Right, So, even if
- 42:32Speaker 2: you can articulate whatever it is that you think that
- 42:35Speaker 2: you want, that you think that your goals are, if
- 42:38Speaker 2: you're not honest with yourself about where you're at or
- 42:40Speaker 2: maybe the means that going after that goal will require,
- 42:44Speaker 2: then your only destiny is to not get exactly what
- 42:47Speaker 2: you want.
- 42:49Speaker 1: It's so true, It's so true.
- 42:51Speaker 3: This is all ten years ago.
- 42:53Speaker 2: So ce the music over a montage of your outstanding
- 42:58Speaker 2: at long, lengthy career on Dancing with the Stars. What
- 43:02Speaker 2: would you say has been one of the biggest lessons
- 43:05Speaker 2: that you take with you from that time on the show.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, so many things. I feel like I
- 43:12Speaker 1: learned so much. It's like so many good life lessons
- 43:16Speaker 1: on Dancing with the Stars. This is going to sound silly,
- 43:18Speaker 1: but like, I am a firm believer that the patients
- 43:21Speaker 1: and kind of like the endurance that I had to
- 43:24Speaker 1: learn on Dancing with the Stars has helped me beyond
- 43:27Speaker 1: in motherhood. I know that's kind of a weird connection,
- 43:31Speaker 1: but the patience you have to learn on Dancing with
- 43:33Speaker 1: the Stars is huge. And I'm not even saying this
- 43:36Speaker 1: in a way of like because it's just awful. I'm
- 43:39Speaker 1: saying it because it requires so much patience to teach
- 43:42Speaker 1: somebody a new skill that they've never done before. It
- 43:45Speaker 1: requires a lot of guidance and reassurance and some empathy
- 43:49Speaker 1: to really take somebody through that process like that is tough.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I think over the years on Dancing with the Stars
- 43:55Speaker 1: really becoming very empathetic and like sympathizing for my partners,
- 44:00Speaker 1: not because they were doing something they didn't want to do,
- 44:02Speaker 1: but because it's very tough to put yourself out there
- 44:04Speaker 1: to try something new, to do it on national television,
- 44:07Speaker 1: to get judged for it, and it's a very strenuous process. So,
- 44:11Speaker 1: like the empathy and kind of the like the sensitivity
- 44:14Speaker 1: that I learned and gained and the patients was has
- 44:16Speaker 1: just been so beneficial because going into motherhood, I mean,
- 44:19Speaker 1: that's every single day is patience and being sensitive and
- 44:23Speaker 1: being understanding, and so that was really cool for me.
- 44:26Speaker 1: But then also I think like it's one of those
- 44:29Speaker 1: shows where it's live, so that show is coming around
- 44:33Speaker 1: no matter what, no matter if you're ready no matter
- 44:36Speaker 1: if you finish your dance, no matter if like everything
- 44:39Speaker 1: works out whether or not, like everything's fine, You're still
- 44:41Speaker 1: going to perform every Monday night. There's no redos, there's
- 44:44Speaker 1: no like, oh I'm not ready. It's like you've got
- 44:47Speaker 1: to make it happen. And I'm really grateful for that
- 44:49Speaker 1: because it gave me this sense of like, you can
- 44:52Speaker 1: do anything, Like I truly am very and I always
- 44:55Speaker 1: tell my partners that, or I would tell them that, like
- 44:57Speaker 1: at the beginning of the week, like I know that
- 44:59Speaker 1: this seems impossible, but I promise you that we're going
- 45:02Speaker 1: to do this rough week and it will happen, Like
- 45:05Speaker 1: it is going to happen, and you will get through this.
- 45:08Speaker 1: And it's been it's been a really good like mentality
- 45:10Speaker 1: through all the other stressful things in my life of like,
- 45:13Speaker 1: it's going to happen, so we're going to do it,
- 45:15Speaker 1: and you can make it happen. So I think it
- 45:17Speaker 1: gave me a lot of confidence in knowing that, like,
- 45:19Speaker 1: even when things feel like they're absolutely not going to
- 45:21Speaker 1: work out, it's going to happen either way, and you're
- 45:24Speaker 1: going to make it happen. And that confidence has been
- 45:26Speaker 1: very beneficial for me.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Yeah, So it sounds like perseverance, persistence, and really a
- 45:32Speaker 2: huge lesson and accepting the things that you can't change, right, Like,
- 45:36Speaker 2: you're going to have to step out and perform this
- 45:39Speaker 2: dance live on national television, so you might as well
- 45:43Speaker 2: make the best you can of the situation.
- 45:45Speaker 1: That is such a good way of putting it, because
- 45:47Speaker 1: that's the truth. It's like, I can't change it no
- 45:49Speaker 1: matter what. And there was a lot of things I
- 45:50Speaker 1: couldn't change. I couldn't change if I got a partner
- 45:53Speaker 1: that season that had a little dance experience, I couldn't
- 45:55Speaker 1: or maybe they had nothing at all. I couldn't change
- 45:57Speaker 1: if they were really good at dancing or really bad
- 45:59Speaker 1: at dancing. All all I could do was just do
- 46:01Speaker 1: what needed to be done and swerve and make adjustments
- 46:04Speaker 1: and change things as we go to make it work.
- 46:07Speaker 1: And I think that has been really helpful for me,
- 46:09Speaker 1: because life is never going to go the way you
- 46:11Speaker 1: want it to, So being able to like adjust instead
- 46:14Speaker 1: of shut down is a really good thing that I
- 46:17Speaker 1: feel like I've been able to do from that.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Yeah, And just to make sure that we clarify this,
- 46:22Speaker 2: you have no insight as to who your partner is
- 46:25Speaker 2: going to be until very shortly before meeting them, right.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Literally no insight. The earliest I've ever been told who
- 46:33Speaker 1: my partner was was like the night before a morning
- 46:35Speaker 1: rehearsal where I met them. But typically you show up
- 46:38Speaker 1: to the meeting and they tell you like ten minutes
- 46:41Speaker 1: before your partner walks in the door, like, Okay, this
- 46:42Speaker 1: is your partner. You have no insight, you have no
- 46:45Speaker 1: like I want this person. It's just that out of
- 46:48Speaker 1: your hands. And I'm very grateful. Though I always say this,
- 46:51Speaker 1: and I feel like people don't believe me to think
- 46:53Speaker 1: I'm just saying this because I have to, but I'm like,
- 46:54Speaker 1: I really don't have to say this. I have been
- 46:57Speaker 1: blessed with some of the most awesome partners, not because
- 47:00Speaker 1: they were all good dancers, because in fact, a lot
- 47:02Speaker 1: of them were terrible dancers, and I'd say that to
- 47:05Speaker 1: their face, so I'm not even being rude here. A
- 47:07Speaker 1: lot of them were not good dancers, but the most genuine, kind,
- 47:11Speaker 1: good people, and that has been a lifesaver because to me,
- 47:15Speaker 1: that matters more than anything. I'm like, I can teach
- 47:17Speaker 1: you how to dance, but I can't teach you how
- 47:19Speaker 1: to be a nice person. So if you have that,
- 47:22Speaker 1: then we are going to have a great season.
- 47:25Speaker 2: How would you say that the lessons of perseverance and
- 47:29Speaker 2: persistence and persistence showed up for you during the pandemic.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I think the persistence was just the biggest thing because
- 47:38Speaker 1: understanding that we've got to press forward and finding ways
- 47:42Speaker 1: getting creative, keeping myself busy, and that was a huge
- 47:45Speaker 1: part of what pushed me into creating my program, the
- 47:49Speaker 1: Movement Club. Was being in my home, pregnant for the
- 47:52Speaker 1: first time, not able to go to a gym, not
- 47:55Speaker 1: having any dance opportunities at the time, and really just
- 47:58Speaker 1: feeling like, well, what am I going to do. I
- 48:00Speaker 1: need to make sure I move in my body. I
- 48:01Speaker 1: need to stay sane, I need to find things for
- 48:03Speaker 1: myself that I can do. And I would say that
- 48:05Speaker 1: was one of the most pivotal years for me in
- 48:07Speaker 1: my career. It's where I started my workout program. I
- 48:11Speaker 1: completely evolved and kind of changed and shift my mentality
- 48:13Speaker 1: around fitness. I really dove into a lot of different
- 48:16Speaker 1: aspects of my career on social media and sharing on
- 48:20Speaker 1: different platforms because I understood like, hey, we've got to
- 48:25Speaker 1: we can't shut down. We've got to adapt, we've got
- 48:27Speaker 1: to change, and we've got to find what we can
- 48:29Speaker 1: do to make this work and to push through this time.
- 48:31Speaker 1: And I'm really grateful for that, because I think a
- 48:34Speaker 1: lot of people did that, and I think it was
- 48:35Speaker 1: a really pivotal time for a lot of people, as
- 48:37Speaker 1: well as being the most difficult time for a lot
- 48:39Speaker 1: of people. But for me, I'm grateful for the changes
- 48:42Speaker 1: I made during that time.
- 48:44Speaker 2: What was it like for you to film Dancing with
- 48:47Speaker 2: the Stars during the pandemic?
- 48:51Speaker 1: So that was very interesting, very very different. That was
- 48:56Speaker 1: so I missed the first season that they filmed during
- 49:01Speaker 1: the pandemic because I was pregnant, But then the next
- 49:03Speaker 1: season was still during the pandemic. Things had definitely slowed
- 49:06Speaker 1: down a bit, so I know that the protocols were
- 49:09Speaker 1: even a little bit less intense as they were that
- 49:12Speaker 1: time where I missed while I was pregnant. But it
- 49:14Speaker 1: completely changed. It was a very different show, different experience,
- 49:18Speaker 1: mostly in the sense that we couldn't interact with any
- 49:21Speaker 1: of the other dancers or celebrities, which is so weird
- 49:24Speaker 1: because that is something about the show that is like
- 49:27Speaker 1: so much what the show is about is everybody just
- 49:30Speaker 1: being together, being a family, hanging out, like doing rehearsals together,
- 49:34Speaker 1: sitting on the couch, eating snacks after rehearsal together. So
- 49:37Speaker 1: that was definitely a different thing. But then it was
- 49:40Speaker 1: also very interesting because I feel like then me and
- 49:42Speaker 1: my partner relied on each other even more because it
- 49:44Speaker 1: was just us and I had the best partner that season,
- 49:47Speaker 1: Matt James. He's actually him and Rachel are actually staying
- 49:50Speaker 1: at our house right now visiting. So it's like really
- 49:52Speaker 1: cool because he became a lifelong friend and it's cool.
- 49:56Speaker 1: So it shifted in some ways, but it was also
- 49:58Speaker 1: really special in other ways.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Matt and I are friendly, so tell him. Emily
- 50:02Speaker 2: from Hurdle says, what's up. Well, for sure, we heard
- 50:07Speaker 2: so much about your time during the pandemic and what
- 50:09Speaker 2: it was like to be doing the same thing. I'll
- 50:12Speaker 2: bite quite differently. You also mentioned pivoting and getting more
- 50:16Speaker 2: into different types of content creation. Can you talk to
- 50:20Speaker 2: us a little bit about what that's been like for
- 50:22Speaker 2: you and maybe some of the challenges that have come
- 50:24Speaker 2: hand in hand with that shift.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Yes, I think the biggest shift was before the pandemic,
- 50:30Speaker 1: which was Cohen's Literally I found out I was pregnant
- 50:33Speaker 1: two days before the world shut down, Like I was
- 50:36Speaker 1: on Dancing with the Stars tour. I remember taking the test.
- 50:40Speaker 1: The next day, we got our tour manager kind of
- 50:42Speaker 1: gathered us and was like, just say, you know, this
- 50:44Speaker 1: is happening, and we were probably gonna have to pause
- 50:46Speaker 1: the tour for two weeks, because remember it was just
- 50:48Speaker 1: going to be two weeks. But he's like, we're gonna
- 50:50Speaker 1: probably have to send you guys home for two weeks
- 50:51Speaker 1: and then we'll get you back out. And we were
- 50:53Speaker 1: like okay. Then the next day completely evolved, You're going
- 50:56Speaker 1: home tomorrow, We're done with the tour, go home, then
- 50:58Speaker 1: we go home. We kind of were waiting and like
- 51:00Speaker 1: waiting to hear if we were going back out. Eventually
- 51:02Speaker 1: obviously got completely canceled. But it's crazy how my pregnancy
- 51:05Speaker 1: and the pandemic were like completely in sync at the
- 51:09Speaker 1: same time. Before the pandemic, it's like anything I'd share
- 51:11Speaker 1: on social media was I would say ninety percent about dance.
- 51:16Speaker 1: It was about Dancing with the Stars. It was just
- 51:18Speaker 1: about that, because I figured that's the only reason people
- 51:21Speaker 1: followed me was to hear about that. Kind of stuff.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Then going home getting pregnant, knowing I'm like, well, I'm
- 51:27Speaker 1: not going to be doing Dancing with the Stars next season,
- 51:29Speaker 1: so are people even going to care to like see
- 51:32Speaker 1: what I have to say? But then I'm like, yeah,
- 51:35Speaker 1: like we're going to go for this. And it was
- 51:36Speaker 1: a complete shift of like opening up a whole new
- 51:38Speaker 1: world to my followers into on all my platforms. Around
- 51:42Speaker 1: the same time, my sisters and I started a YouTube channel,
- 51:44Speaker 1: which was really special because I feel like that started
- 51:46Speaker 1: to bring a new element of who I was into
- 51:48Speaker 1: kind of the space. But then during the pandemic, it
- 51:52Speaker 1: was huge. It shifted from talking about Dance with the
- 51:54Speaker 1: Stars and dance dance and sants to guys, I'm pregnant,
- 51:57Speaker 1: Like this is my pregnance, my pregnant self that I'm
- 52:00Speaker 1: going to share my journey. And that's kind of where
- 52:02Speaker 1: it all started was I just decided, I'm like, maybe
- 52:04Speaker 1: people won't care, but I'm going to really just like
- 52:07Speaker 1: go for it. I'm going to share my whole pregnancy journey.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I want to let people in on my life and
- 52:10Speaker 1: start to help them get to know me a little
- 52:13Speaker 1: bit more on a personal level, which was scary because
- 52:16Speaker 1: that definitely opened up a lot more can of worms
- 52:19Speaker 1: than I was ready for the amount of hate I've
- 52:21Speaker 1: gotten since sharing about pregnancy is way more than anything
- 52:24Speaker 1: else I ever dealt with in my life. Like pregnancy
- 52:27Speaker 1: shamers is a thing, mom shaming is a thing. Kid
- 52:31Speaker 1: shaming is a thing, which I'm like, no, it should
- 52:34Speaker 1: not be a thing. But I think the biggest, like
- 52:36Speaker 1: the hurdle for me was just going, Okay, do people
- 52:41Speaker 1: even care about other parts of my life or do
- 52:43Speaker 1: they only follow me because I am this dancer from
- 52:46Speaker 1: Dancing with the Stars. And I'm really grateful that I
- 52:48Speaker 1: went for it because I have come to discover that
- 52:51Speaker 1: it's actually been even better since I've started to open
- 52:55Speaker 1: up and share my life and go into new channels
- 52:57Speaker 1: and kind of expand the way that I share my life.
- 53:00Speaker 1: That was a huge shift for me. I would say
- 53:01Speaker 1: it mostly started on Instagram because that was just the thing,
- 53:04Speaker 1: but then really work to grow a YouTube channel. My
- 53:07Speaker 1: sister and I did a podcast for a little bit
- 53:10Speaker 1: starting on TikTok. Even though I tried so hard to
- 53:13Speaker 1: fight it, I really did. I was like, I hate
- 53:15Speaker 1: this app. I can't And then finally I'm like I
- 53:17Speaker 1: like this app, We're totally going for it. But I
- 53:20Speaker 1: think just understanding and recognizing like people want to see authentic, genuine,
- 53:25Speaker 1: real people. They don't want to see perfectly curated things.
- 53:29Speaker 1: And it was comforting for me because I think for
- 53:32Speaker 1: a while there it was like, do people care about
- 53:34Speaker 1: anything about me other than dancing? And also do I
- 53:37Speaker 1: have to make everything look perfect in order for it
- 53:39Speaker 1: to be like instagram worthy? And I'm really grateful that
- 53:42Speaker 1: I didn't, because my life is not perfect. It's messy,
- 53:44Speaker 1: And I think that's been the biggest that's been the
- 53:48Speaker 1: biggest positive in my social media career is just understanding
- 53:51Speaker 1: that I can be fully authentic with my followers, and
- 53:54Speaker 1: it's pushed me to levels that I think I didn't
- 53:55Speaker 1: know I could even get to, So that's been great.
- 53:58Speaker 2: It's really interesting to hear you share your hesitation in
- 54:02Speaker 2: that because at the top of this we are talking
- 54:05Speaker 2: about you owning all of these pivots and really stepping
- 54:10Speaker 2: into with excitement this chapter of motherhood and content and
- 54:14Speaker 2: like all of the different business ventures and the movement club,
- 54:17Speaker 2: like there was so much excitement there, But then to
- 54:20Speaker 2: hear you express this hesitancy about sharing all of that
- 54:25Speaker 2: with people online. It's refreshing and it's beautiful, and I
- 54:29Speaker 2: would be curious to know what advice you would offer
- 54:33Speaker 2: to others who are trying to embrace being their fully
- 54:36Speaker 2: authentic self.
- 54:37Speaker 1: It is so true. I'm glad you brought that up
- 54:39Speaker 1: because I think, like, right now, I'm just so grateful
- 54:41Speaker 1: for all the things that have going on. I love
- 54:42Speaker 1: them all. But it's kind of interesting to go back
- 54:44Speaker 1: to those times of like, I almost didn't do this,
- 54:46Speaker 1: I almost just let my doubts kind of take over.
- 54:49Speaker 1: And I think that's the advice that I would give
- 54:52Speaker 1: is if there is something that you think you might
- 54:54Speaker 1: want to try, you cannot not try it, Like what
- 54:59Speaker 1: is the worst thing that could happen? See, I am
- 55:02Speaker 1: the kind of person that I would rather try something
- 55:04Speaker 1: and understand it's not for me than never try it
- 55:07Speaker 1: and always wonder if it would have worked out. And
- 55:10Speaker 1: so that I think is like something that I really
- 55:13Speaker 1: harp on people is just try, like, just give it
- 55:16Speaker 1: a shot. You never know where it's going to take you.
- 55:20Speaker 1: And when I started this and when I said, oh
- 55:22Speaker 1: I'm going to try, it's not like I foresaw exactly
- 55:25Speaker 1: the way that this went. I never would have guessed it.
- 55:28Speaker 1: I never would have said this is where I'm going
- 55:29Speaker 1: to really like succeed, this is where I'm going to
- 55:31Speaker 1: start diving into. This is going to be the shifts
- 55:34Speaker 1: I make. But all I did was attacked it genuinely
- 55:36Speaker 1: and gave it my best shot, and it kind of
- 55:39Speaker 1: naturally will fall into place for you. So I think
- 55:42Speaker 1: advice is to go for it, but then also understand
- 55:45Speaker 1: that things might shift in ways you didn't understand, and
- 55:47Speaker 1: to just ride the wave and to see where it
- 55:49Speaker 1: takes you and not get so set or specific on
- 55:51Speaker 1: like it has to be like this, because it might
- 55:53Speaker 1: not be, but it might be even better than you imagined.
- 55:56Speaker 2: What is the most surprising thing that's come with this
- 56:00Speaker 2: shift for you?
- 56:02Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing is that I am able
- 56:07Speaker 1: to create a career for myself, provide for myself and
- 56:11Speaker 1: my family while living in my home, living in Utah,
- 56:16Speaker 1: finding things that allow me to still be a full
- 56:19Speaker 1: time mom and still work and get all the things
- 56:22Speaker 1: and all my passions in. I think there's this There
- 56:25Speaker 1: used to be this huge mentality and kind of like
- 56:27Speaker 1: scary factor of me of like, once I'm a mom,
- 56:30Speaker 1: I can't do anything like I'm done and I've done more.
- 56:34Speaker 1: I would say my career is busier since becoming a
- 56:37Speaker 1: mom than it ever was before. And I'm talking with
- 56:38Speaker 1: Dancing the Stars too, Like my days are filled. I
- 56:41Speaker 1: have things going on all the time, and yeah, a
- 56:43Speaker 1: lot of that is being a mom. But it's like,
- 56:46Speaker 1: you can do it all. And I think that's been
- 56:49Speaker 1: really good for me to understand, because I think it
- 56:52Speaker 1: can be scary and you can think like, oh, well,
- 56:54Speaker 1: once you have a mom, once you're a mom, you're
- 56:56Speaker 1: either done or there's that if you're a working mom,
- 56:59Speaker 1: then you're a terrible mom. And I hate that because
- 57:02Speaker 1: you can do both. You can absolutely be killing in
- 57:05Speaker 1: your career and attack it and go after your dreams
- 57:07Speaker 1: and pursue your passions and be a great mother at
- 57:10Speaker 1: the same time. And it's really cool that I've been
- 57:12Speaker 1: able to do it. But I think it is shocking
- 57:13Speaker 1: because I kind of always thought, like, well, crap, if
- 57:16Speaker 1: I want to provide, if I want to work, I've
- 57:18Speaker 1: got to be doing Dancing with the Stars for the
- 57:20Speaker 1: rest of my life, moving out to LA four months
- 57:23Speaker 1: out of the year and leaving my family. But I'm
- 57:25Speaker 1: really grateful that my career has been able to shift
- 57:27Speaker 1: and I can still do that, but I can also
- 57:29Speaker 1: do other things for the times where it doesn't work
- 57:31Speaker 1: for me to be doing that.
- 57:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, we've talked a lot about identity in
- 57:36Speaker 2: our conversation today. If someone goes to your social media page,
- 57:41Speaker 2: they see dancing with the Stars, pro you're a mom.
- 57:46Speaker 2: You also now have this workout program with the Movement Club.
- 57:49Speaker 2: When you look in the.
- 57:50Speaker 3: Mirror, though, what is it that you see looking back
- 57:53Speaker 3: at you?
- 57:54Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. That is a very good question and
- 57:57Speaker 1: something I don't really think about very often, but I
- 58:01Speaker 1: would say right now, I am very proud of myself
- 58:06Speaker 1: as a mother who is pursuing her passions, who was
- 58:10Speaker 1: finding ways to do what she loves, because that, I
- 58:15Speaker 1: think is just the scariest thing about motherhood and something
- 58:18Speaker 1: I was very scared of. Is just worrying like, am
- 58:21Speaker 1: I going to lose who I am through all of this?
- 58:23Speaker 1: Am I going to then just become somebody's caretaker and
- 58:25Speaker 1: forget to take care of myself and forget to do
- 58:27Speaker 1: things for myself? And that has not happened at all.
- 58:30Speaker 1: I am very grateful that I've found ways to stay
- 58:33Speaker 1: true to who I am, to give back to me
- 58:35Speaker 1: while also giving to the little creature that I created
- 58:39Speaker 1: that I love more than anything in this whole entire world.
- 58:42Speaker 1: And so I think that's what I see is someone
- 58:44Speaker 1: who is just like striving every day. I'm not trying
- 58:47Speaker 1: to say in any way that I am mailing it
- 58:49Speaker 1: all the time, because I am definitely not. But I
- 58:52Speaker 1: think I just see someone who literally wakes up every
- 58:54Speaker 1: day and just strives to do her best, strives to
- 58:56Speaker 1: get it all done and show up where she can
- 58:58Speaker 1: and be the best version of herself and what it
- 59:00Speaker 1: is that's coming for that day.
- 59:02Speaker 2: When you think about a year from now, what does
- 59:07Speaker 2: happiness look like for you?
- 59:09Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. I just hope that I can continue
- 59:12Speaker 1: because thinking about a year from now, I'm not gonna lie.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Like the big shift of knowing that we're going to
- 59:17Speaker 1: two kids very soon is is a bit daunting, and
- 59:19Speaker 1: I know it's going to completely shake up everything I've
- 59:22Speaker 1: got going right now, Like what I have figured out
- 59:24Speaker 1: for my life right now is about to get a
- 59:26Speaker 1: huge shift. And I just hope that in a year
- 59:30Speaker 1: I still have this mentality of just like taking everything
- 59:33Speaker 1: a day at a time and showing up where I can.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I kind of went through this a little bit about
- 59:40Speaker 1: six months ago, just this constant feeling of like feeling
- 59:44Speaker 1: like I wasn't enough and I wasn't getting enough done
- 59:46Speaker 1: and always thinking about what I wasn't doing instead of
- 59:49Speaker 1: just doing what I could and being proud of that.
- 59:52Speaker 1: And since shifting that mindset, I've found that I've been
- 59:54Speaker 1: able to show up in ways that I didn't think
- 59:56Speaker 1: I could ever do. And so I hope I can
- 59:58Speaker 1: keep that mentality. I'm sure it's gonna wait, and I'm
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: sure there's gonna be a lot of shifts and resets,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: gonna have to check myself every once in a while,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: but I hope that I can just be very proud
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: of wherever I'm at in a year from now and
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: know that I've definitely done the best that I could.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: How do you squash that I'm not doing enough? I'm
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: not good enough? Gremlin?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Truthfully, I feel like I have to attack it in
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: different ways depending on the day, And like I said,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: like I'm not for your data. It's like some weeks
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I go through the whole week and I'm like I
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: am a rock star and I can do everything, and
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: then the next week, I'm like, I can't get anything done.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: I failed. This whole week was a bust. I think
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: it really goes back to, like for me at least,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: is taking it day by day, not looking at the
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: week as a whole, not looking at what I didn't
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: finish that like comparing it to what I've done in
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: the past, is really just taking it by that day,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: wake up, look in the mirror, say let's do this.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Let's crush it. Whatever comes our way. Let's just try
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: to make it and get through and show up the
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: best that we can. And that's been a huge help
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: for me. Some people are really good at maybe planning
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: out the whole weeks, but for me that's something that
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: kind of overwhelms me and makes me feel like I've
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: failed before I've even had the chance to do it.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: So taking things a day at a time and really
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: just showing up where I can has been very good
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: for me.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: Being able to articulate that though right like knowing that
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: the ladder the I'm going to plan a week in
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: advance gives you anxiety, is what we were talking about before.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: It's being honest with yourself so that you can make
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: the progress that you desire.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, it's setting like realistic expectations. And I think
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: like social media can be so tough because truthfully, like
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: there are so many times where being on social media
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: seeing other people is what triggers my insecurity. Seeing these
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: people post tiktoks about how they plan out and map
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: out their whole week and then they absolutely nail their
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: whole week, it makes me feel inadequate. But then that's
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: what works for them, and that's okay, and that's great.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: But don't give myself expectations that I know I'm not
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: going to meet because then why why why would I
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: do set myself up to be discouraged instead of just saying, okay,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: what will inspire me and encourage me today rather than
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: make me feel stressed out or anxious. So I think
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: it's that fine balance of understanding that just because someone's
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: doing it some way doesn't mean it's the only way,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: and it also doesn't mean that they're doing it wrong.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: It's just that's what works for them. Find what works
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: for you.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: Find what works for you.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: All Right, we're winding down here, lindsay, right now, you
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: have an opportunity to offer yourself a piece of advice.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Looking back at, let's call it those first couple years
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: on Dancing with the Stars, navigating a lot of feedback
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: and stepping in to your authentic self, you have an
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: opportunity to offer that, Lindsay, a piece of advice.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: In that hurle moment. Knowing what you know, now, what
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: do you tell her?
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness, I think I think I would tell
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: her to understand that there is so much coming for you,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: and a lot of it is going to be stuff
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: that you don't have on your wish list, and that
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: is perfectly okay. And I think just telling her to
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: ride each wave as it comes, see where it takes you,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: live authentically and enjoy every single moment instead of striving
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: to get somewhere that you're not live in the moment,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: be present and understand that where you are is exactly
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: where you need to be. I think that would have
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: been really helpful and would have helped me enjoy a
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: lot of maybe tough moments of my life instead of
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: looking at them like they were just miserable trials that
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I would never get out of.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Yeah, every hurdle happens to teach us something, Lindsay, I'm
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: so happy that we were able.
