- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today I want to talk to you about change.
- 0:33Boy, what a big subject, right? Because it encompasses so many
- 0:36different parts of our lives. Personal, professional, big,
- 0:39little, small, wide. It doesn't matter what it is.
- 0:42It all encompasses this massive subject of change in our life.
- 0:48And as a human beings, we just do not typically like change.
- 0:52We will resist it. Resist it.
- 0:53Resist it because it takes us out of our certainty.
- 0:57It puts us in a different state of mind.
- 0:59It it, it just makes us feel like uneasy and we don't like
- 1:04that, you know, our nature is to look for the certainty and
- 1:09safety. It's just how human beings are
- 1:11wired. And we're never going to get
- 1:12around that. But our nature is also to look
- 1:17at what's going on in our world around us.
- 1:20And we are surrounded by change all the time.
- 1:22I mean, Mother Nature is one of the best ones that is constantly
- 1:26doing that to us. I mean, every single day, the
- 1:28light. Wherever you live, every single
- 1:30day, the light is shifting and it's your days are getting a
- 1:33little longer, a little shorter, whatever it might be.
- 1:36There's always tweaks, there's always things happening in every
- 1:40blade of grass, every little tiny thing.
- 1:42Nature is telling us change is inevitable, It's going to
- 1:45happen. But our pain isn't necessarily
- 1:49because of the change. Our pain is because of the
- 1:51resistance to the change that's around us, because we don't like
- 1:54it and we want things to say exactly the same.
- 1:57You know, there was an episode of Sesame Street years ago where
- 1:59Elmo wanted Christmas every day, and I always laugh at that one.
- 2:03My daughter wanted to watch it over and over and over again.
- 2:06And you know, after a while, Elmo got sick of Christmas
- 2:10because it was every day. And he had to realize that, you
- 2:14know, in order for things to be great, they have to shift.
- 2:18They have to move on. You can't have the same things
- 2:21all the time. Everything is always about
- 2:23growing and expanding and shifting and changing.
- 2:28And we have to recognize in ourselves that the resistance we
- 2:34put up, the resistance in our perspective, the resistance in
- 2:37our desire for things to shift and change around us, causes all
- 2:41of our pain, not the actual acts of things.
- 2:43Sure there are. It's inevitable that there will
- 2:46be things that happened that cause us pain.
- 2:48We will lose things in our lives.
- 2:51People we love, animals we love. We will lose jobs that we love.
- 2:54We will lose situations. And I, if we are completely and
- 3:01totally honest, we will recognize that a huge,
- 3:05tremendous chunk of that is that that feeling and emotion that we
- 3:09have happening is because of our resistance to it.
- 3:13So our our resistance to the change that is and because we
- 3:18feel so overwhelmed with it. And I'm sorry for the dogs back
- 3:23barking in the background. Can you hear all that?
- 3:25That's my neighbour's dogs. And you know, we're just going
- 3:29to roll with it because this is important and it's a change in
- 3:32what we're doing right. And I'm not going to resist the
- 3:34change as it's happening. I'm just going to go out.
- 3:36We're going to roll with it and see how it goes.
- 3:39So I'm looking there. It goes already away.
- 3:41So I think the most important aspect of what I want you guys
- 3:45to hear me say today is look at whatever is going on in your
- 3:50life that is causing pain and suffering and ask yourself, how
- 3:54can I change my perspective so that I can move myself out of
- 4:00pain and suffering? Because pain and suffering is
- 4:04inevitable, but it's not something that you need to stay
- 4:08in. You can move through it, I
- 4:10promise you. I know that because I've done it
- 4:12so many times in my own personal life with losses of many things.
- 4:17And it is not something that you have to stay in, but it does
- 4:22require an acute level of awareness about where your pain
- 4:26and suffering is coming from. And it requires you to be
- 4:30cognitively aware that you can no longer resist what is being
- 4:34put in front of you. If you keep resisting the loss,
- 4:37if you keep resisting to to address it, if you keep
- 4:41resisting to move through it, you will stay in pain and it
- 4:45will move you eventually, one way or another.
- 4:48So you might as well say, just like Elmo did you know what?
- 4:52I got to I got to just move on. I can't keep waiting for
- 4:54Christmas everyday because goodness knows it, this doesn't
- 4:58feel good. It's like it's not every time it
- 5:00shows up, it's not the same. It's it doesn't feel good.
- 5:03And I think that when you're, when you're doing this exercise,
- 5:08when you're really coming to terms with the fact that you're
- 5:12looking at yourself and you're saying I am stuck in a place of
- 5:16resisting the change that has been presented to me, you have
- 5:20to stop and pause and ask yourself, well, who do I need to
- 5:23be now? You can't just go to it with the
- 5:28person that you've always been. You have to stop and ask
- 5:31yourself, well, who do I need to be now to move through this?
- 5:35Where do I need to shift myself? Where do I need to move my
- 5:40emotions to? Where do I need to move my
- 5:42perspectives to? Because if you can do that, I
- 5:46promise you that's when the great things start to happen,
- 5:49When you can shift it and you can start to look at, OK, what
- 5:52are the gifts in this? You know, when I lost my dad, I
- 5:56didn't think there was anything great about this at all.
- 5:59I never thought there was 1 great thing about it.
- 6:01I couldn't figure it out. He was my best friend.
- 6:03He was meant everything in the world to me and there was still
- 6:07to this day there was never. I can't.
- 6:10I can't put my finger on certain aspects of losing him.
- 6:14But I will say this when I stopped resisting that he was
- 6:17gone, when I started to realize that I had to do things on my
- 6:22own. Why still felt like he was with
- 6:25me and I can talk to him and I have faith that I have
- 6:28connection with him still. I had to come to terms with the
- 6:31fact that I had to make decisions and I had to move in a
- 6:36certain direction. And when I started doing that,
- 6:39my life changed and I know if he had still been here.
- 6:44Some of the decisions that I made for myself that put me
- 6:49right here in this spot, doing this for you, I wouldn't have
- 6:52made and I certainly wouldn't be living where I am.
- 6:56I certainly wouldn't be in the state that I am.
- 6:59I certainly wouldn't be doing the things that I was doing.
- 7:03I would have taken a completely different path because I was on
- 7:07a completely different path. And once he passed, then I
- 7:10shifted. So I can sit back and, you know,
- 7:14I can still feel the pain of the loss, but I don't have to have
- 7:20the same interpretation of it. So maybe all of this stuff
- 7:24that's out there, whatever's going on in your life, whatever
- 7:27change is happening that you have to come to terms with and
- 7:31move through and realize the resistance is not necessarily
- 7:35helping you at this point. I'll tell you to just stop and
- 7:38pause and say who do I need to be now moving forward and what
- 7:42do I want to believe about this happening so that I can move
- 7:45forward. And just asking yourself some
- 7:48really better questions will help you.
- 7:51So I hope that this is helpful for you today.
- 7:54I hope that you understand a little bit more about change and
- 7:59resistance to change and I will see you guys tomorrow.
- 8:04Have a blessed day. Bye.
