- 0:18Don Armstrong: Uh-oh.
- 0:18Don Armstrong: Jeff has the cruise in and events calendars, plus this week's top auto news stories.
- 0:23Don Armstrong: Howdy, along with Mike Out of this world Mars, right over there.
- 0:29Don Armstrong: Jeff Zeke right here.
- 0:32Don Armstrong: Don Armstrong right here.
- 0:34Don Armstrong: David Ainsley in the bed in the back, just like Barney Fox.
- 0:39Mike Marrs: He's texting plenty.
- 0:40Don Armstrong: And right here behind us, who do we have behind us?
- 0:43Don Armstrong: Right here behind us, we have uh Katie and Marco and the famous van that Marco bought for their big road trip that they took, uh actually in the dead of winter, believe it or not, from Denver all the way to Toronto.
- 0:58Don Armstrong: And uh it made it, and there were no problems with it whatsoever.
- 1:02Don Armstrong: What'd you say, Mars?
- 1:03Mike Marrs: It's all in the timing.
- 1:05Don Armstrong: It's all in the timing.
- 1:06Don Armstrong: Uh you know, it's amazing.
- 1:07Don Armstrong: The thing's got like 200,000 miles on it, and it's painted up like you know a 1970s van, which it is.
- 1:14Don Armstrong: And uh they went up there and he'd never finished the inside.
- 1:18Don Armstrong: It's it's close, just like every other guy that has a van.
- 1:22Don Armstrong: A project.
- 1:23Don Armstrong: Uh I'm gonna finish it.
- 1:24Don Armstrong: Oh, yeah, I'm gonna finish it.
- 1:26Don Armstrong: So it's got some really nice, um, I don't know, quarter inch, maybe half-inch thick plywood in it.
- 1:33Jeff Dziekan: I've never seen it.
- 1:34Don Armstrong: So we could hang hang the lamps or whatever back there.
- 1:36Don Armstrong: But anyway, they had a great time and didn't have any uh problems with it.
- 1:40Don Armstrong: Is Steve with us?
- 1:42Mike Marrs: Well, he was.
- 1:43Mike Marrs: I think we lost him all of a sudden.
- 1:44Mike Marrs: He was there in all his uniform glory.
- 1:48Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:49Mike Marrs: Let me uh say let me let me work on that.
- 1:52Mike Marrs: I'll be right back.
- 1:53Don Armstrong: Okay, well, yeah, you work on that.
- 1:55Don Armstrong: Uh I don't know how you work on that because uh I think he calls it.
- 1:58Don Armstrong: Yeah, is that what it is?
- 2:00Don Armstrong: Okay, yeah.
- 2:01Don Armstrong: Um, you got plans for the 4th of July?
- 2:04Jeff Dziekan: Uh we'll probably do something.
- 2:07Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 2:07Jeff Dziekan: Well, uh no real at the house.
- 2:09Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, well, no real.
- 2:10Jeff Dziekan: We don't do fireworks or anything.
- 2:11Jeff Dziekan: We'll go probably watch them if if they're in the area, but we don't light anything off.
- 2:15Jeff Dziekan: We'll probably grill something, you know, the usual stuff.
- 2:17Don Armstrong: I I'm at a point in my life where I don't I don't seek out fireworks anymore.
- 2:22Jeff Dziekan: No, I mean you can see them in the neighborhood.
- 2:24Jeff Dziekan: If somebody's in the park down the road or they're not gonna be like, Well, remember I covered those uh in the helicopter for many, many years.
- 2:30Don Armstrong: Thank goodness I don't have to do that this year.
- 2:32Jeff Dziekan: We used to do it as a kid.
- 2:33Jeff Dziekan: We'd all go down, the parents would take you to go watch the fireworks.
- 2:37Don Armstrong: Well, I take that back.
- 2:38Don Armstrong: My sister always used to take me to the fireworks, and the first one was in Waukeshaw, Wisconsin, because on this side of the Fox River we had the carnival, and on the other side of the Fox River is where they blew off the fireworks.
- 2:51Don Armstrong: Gotcha, gotcha.
- 2:52Don Armstrong: Safety first.
- 2:53Jeff Dziekan: Speaking of safety first, did he pop back in?
- 2:56Jeff Dziekan: No, I don't see it.
- 2:56Jeff Dziekan: I thought he did.
- 2:58Don Armstrong: I think that you're I think that you're dreaming.
- 2:59Don Armstrong: I'm here, I think.
- 3:01Don Armstrong: So my god.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm here.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Sergeant.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: I'm here.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Is it some fellas?
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: It's Sergeant Monte.
- 3:10Don Armstrong: He's on location.
- 3:11Don Armstrong: On location, where are you?
- 3:12Don Armstrong: You got the radar gun out?
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I boys, I am in.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, I mean, if you look around, I am in God's country.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Um, and you come on over this area.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: I'm in between Mona, I'm right in between Monaville, and Hempstead.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And man, it is uh this I got two comers getting ready to pass.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: These are the first comers I've seen in the past two minutes.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I'm in God's country.
- 3:39Jeff Dziekan: Well, maybe the spray out there.
- 3:44Jeff Dziekan: I'll tell you what, I'm I'm glad you're on because we've been trying to contact you about your new car warranty.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Um Steve, Steve, you know what?
- 4:10Don Armstrong: Here's the problem where where you are.
- 4:12Don Armstrong: There is no cell service there.
- 4:15Don Armstrong: So Steve, Steve, yeah.
- 4:20Don Armstrong: You want to call us back and maybe reconnect with something called ATT or something, as opposed to the string and cup uh, you know, uh company that handles your internet.
- 4:31Mike Marrs: I think he's moving so much as a lot of things.
- 4:32Don Armstrong: Yeah, he's very, very quick on his feet.
- 4:35Don Armstrong: No, that's not it.
- 4:37Mike Marrs: All right, I mean, he even I I could hear the mosquitoes going.
- 4:43Mike Marrs: All right.
- 4:44Mike Marrs: Let's try it again, please, sir.
- 4:47Don Armstrong: Yeah, I want to let you handle that.
- 4:49Don Armstrong: So, anyway, uh I was gonna tell you.
- 4:52Don Armstrong: So, that was that was my first adventure with with fireworks in in Wisconsin when I was a kid.
- 4:58Don Armstrong: Well, uh that transferred here, and back in the day, there weren't as many fireworks displays around town.
- 5:07Don Armstrong: But back in the day, Sharpstown Center, which was relatively new, was fantastic.
- 5:13Don Armstrong: And the traffic was terrible because they had this huge parking lot and everybody got in it and they blew the fireworks off, and then trying to get out of there was an absolute night.
- 5:23Don Armstrong: And then, of course, along comes Astro World, and they had fireworks every night, like Disneyland does.
- 5:28Don Armstrong: So, fireworks are not really that hard to find anymore.
- 5:31Jeff Dziekan: Well, the baseball team, the the uh Space Cowboys is uh you know a couple miles away from the house, and they have Friday night fireworks.
- 5:39Mike Marrs: If you're using the iPhone, make sure we hear that.
- 5:42Jeff Dziekan: We can see on the backyard, you can see some of this, yeah.
- 5:44Don Armstrong: But uh yeah, I think that the most fun I had was with bottle rockets.
- 5:48Don Armstrong: Oh, no, we never they were cheap, and uh everybody had a Coke bottle, and we found out that you didn't actually have to use the Coke bottle.
- 5:57Don Armstrong: Yeah, you you'd light it, yep, and then throw it, and it went danger.
- 6:02Don Armstrong: And then there's a there's a there's a video that I'm sure that everybody has seen that's online where the guy and his wife, he's they're always playing pranks on one another.
- 6:13Don Armstrong: And she goes into the ladies' room and he lights a bottle rocket and goes right underneath the bathroom door, and you can see it pow! And she screams and comes out and you know, beats him with the with the bedroom slipper or whatever.
- 6:26Don Armstrong: It's absolutely hysterical.
- 6:28Don Armstrong: I I I I still watch it and laugh at it.
- 6:30Don Armstrong: It's fun.
- 6:31Don Armstrong: But uh fireworks, of course, you know, back in the day, they weren't necessarily illegal in the city of Houston, and houses would burn down because back in that day we had wood shingle roofs.
- 6:44Don Armstrong: Do you remember the wood shingle roofs, Mr.
- 6:46Don Armstrong: Morris?
- 6:48Mike Marrs: Yeah, there's a few of them still around.
- 6:50Don Armstrong: Well, I'm sure I don't know how they've survived this, but uh they're out there with Woodard where there's nothing around and nobody probably that's that's probably it.
- 6:57Don Armstrong: Yeah, the barns are uh uh covered up with that.
- 7:00Don Armstrong: But uh at any rate, so they outlawed the wood shingles roof, so now you can't fire or shoot fireworks in the city.
- 7:06Don Armstrong: Well, good luck with that.
- 7:08Don Armstrong: But um I I remember when we first got real, honest to goodness, huge stands, and you go in there and you wait in line, and you go, I'll take that one, that one, that one, that one.
- 7:20Don Armstrong: All you had was like five, ten bucks at the most.
- 7:22Don Armstrong: So you didn't get a lot, but uh never did that.
- 7:25Don Armstrong: You never did that?
- 7:26Jeff Dziekan: Never did that.
- 7:26Jeff Dziekan: No, I didn't.
- 7:27Jeff Dziekan: Did you did you have them up in Michigan?
- 7:29Jeff Dziekan: No.
- 7:29Jeff Dziekan: Well, they they I'm sure they did.
- 7:30Jeff Dziekan: We just never did that.
- 7:32Jeff Dziekan: It was part of what we did.
- 7:34Jeff Dziekan: Interesting.
- 7:35Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 7:36Don Armstrong: Well, we did bottle rockets, that was my thing.
- 7:39Don Armstrong: Go bottle rockets.
- 7:43Don Armstrong: Basically, they were firecrackers that had one end opened up and a little propulsion on it.
- 7:49Don Armstrong: Yeah, exactly.
- 7:50Don Armstrong: So tons of fun.
- 7:51Don Armstrong: Well, so uh well, that was an adventure with uh Steve Woodard out in the middle of nowhere with no cell service, and he's got a brand new truck, unmarked truck.
- 8:01Don Armstrong: Yeah, pretty nice.
- 8:02Don Armstrong: Oh, we saw it.
- 8:03Don Armstrong: So we've got the skinny on that.
- 8:04Don Armstrong: But the giveaway for riding it.
- 8:06Don Armstrong: I know in the back.
- 8:08Don Armstrong: Uh the giveaway on that is the front bumper.
- 8:10Don Armstrong: It's got that big push bumper on the front.
- 8:12Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, the little cattle guard bush thing.
- 8:16Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 8:17Don Armstrong: But uh it looks pretty cool.
- 8:18Don Armstrong: It doesn't have any markings on it whatsoever.
- 8:20Don Armstrong: But I bet it's got some hidden lights on it.
- 8:22Jeff Dziekan: But he did kind of give you a uh uh GPS on where he's at.
- 8:26Jeff Dziekan: You know, he said he's up in Hempstead.
- 8:28Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:28Don Armstrong: And he said, Oh, here come the first two cars that I've seen all morning.
- 8:31Don Armstrong: Yeah, but be careful.
- 8:32Don Armstrong: Yeah, there's that.
- 8:34Don Armstrong: See guy pulled over with his black truck on the side of the road.
- 8:37Don Armstrong: You're going, is that St.
- 8:39Don Armstrong: Trooper?
- 8:40Don Armstrong: No, it's not.
- 8:43Don Armstrong: All right.
- 8:45Don Armstrong: Well Mike's back.
- 8:48Don Armstrong: Mike's back.
- 8:49Don Armstrong: I don't think he's not talking to us.
- 8:51Don Armstrong: Um I I had some something that I thought I'd throw out there.
- 8:58Don Armstrong: Because I don't want to blow all of the stories that I've got, okay?
- 9:04Don Armstrong: Um I see that.
- 9:07Don Armstrong: But he's not talking.
- 9:08Don Armstrong: There he is.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: I'm here, I'm here, boys.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I'm just uh I'm just captivated on the beauty out here.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: How's it going, Mike?
- 9:19Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 9:19Don Armstrong: Mars?
- 9:20Don Armstrong: It's doing well.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Very good, very good.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Uh let's let's let's get let's get professional, guys.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Let's get back on track and get serious.
- 9:28Don Armstrong: Um please.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Fourth of July, Steve.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 4th of July.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I will tell you, uh, we're in full gear.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Uh right now, obviously, FIFA.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Have you got heard of have you heard of FIFA?
- 9:43Don Armstrong: Uh yeah, the timer too.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so we have a hundred-plus troopers that are helping out doing all the FIFA uh festivities, which will bleed over to our fourth to July uh enforcement period.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: We just want folks to drive safe, and we just want to minimize the fatalities and crashes right here in the state of Texas.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: You wouldn't believe this, but there are more people visiting the state of Texas by with survey than probably any other state here within the United States.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: That's obviously because of FIFA festivities and everything that we have here within the state for folks to do.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: And it's our responsibility to make sure that that is done not only uh swiftly and quickly, but we do it with a saturation of troopers from all over uh all over the points of our region.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Um this morning I had the opportunity of speaking to a group up in Prairie View, and one of the questions was, what do I do?
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: No offense to you, um no offense to you, Brother Mars, but what do I do when I feel that I'm reaching an age to where I'm too old to drive?
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: What do you think my answer was?
- 11:01Jeff Dziekan: Don't drive.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Don't drive.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: But a lot of times it's easier said than done.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: I will tell you, if you want to fight on your hands, try to take away mama's license.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: If you want to fight on your hands, try to take away your dad's license who has alzheimers.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Look, these are these are gonna have to be conversations that we have to have not only with our parents or our community, but I bring uh that question came up because of a recent fatality in the community.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: But I did some some digging.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: You uh you guys would be extremely surprised how many individuals that reach that golden age, uh, when we're talking about near their 80s or whatever, they're still driving, but those cognitive skills are not there anymore.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: The next thing you know, we have a fatality of a major crash on our hand.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: So let's kind of uh we get in the mode of checking ourselves, making sure that we check on our family members.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: And hey, if somebody is probably in that window to where they shouldn't be driving, we probably need to have that conversation to take that license.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Um, I will tell you the temperature right now, looking at the temperature gauge in the beautiful county of Wallach County, it's already peaked uh at 89 degrees and climbing.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Boys, we need to hydrate.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: Um, the major problem that we're having in FIFA, if you cover people, is that the people can hydrate.
- 12:30Mike Marrs: We're losing him again.
- 12:36Mike Marrs: Hey, Steven.
- 12:39Mike Marrs: Steve.
- 12:41Mike Marrs: Yeah, we've we're your cell signals dropping out again.
- 12:44Mike Marrs: Yeah, we yeah, sorry.
- 12:47Don Armstrong: I think we need to reconnect.
- 12:48Mike Marrs: Yeah, you need to stay safe out there and be careful out there, and you need to rehydrate and make sure you drink plenty of water.
- 12:54Don Armstrong: Yeah, we love you, man.
- 12:56Don Armstrong: Be safe, God bless, and uh you take care out there, be safe.
- 12:59Don Armstrong: Next time, take Don for a ride in your new truck.
- 13:01Don Armstrong: Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:02Don Armstrong: I want that new truck ride.
- 13:04Don Armstrong: All right.
- 13:06Mike Marrs: Well, that's a shame.
- 13:07Mike Marrs: That's a shame.
- 13:07Mike Marrs: Yeah, he was on the roll.
- 13:09Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 13:10Don Armstrong: Uh speaking of which, and you're talking about uh old people, you know.
- 13:13Don Armstrong: Um, of course, both my parents have been gone for quite some time, but uh what ended it with my dad was um I usually called him, especially on a Sunday night, Dad, how are you?
- 13:23Don Armstrong: And he wouldn't answer the phone.
- 13:25Don Armstrong: So I'm panicking.
- 13:26Don Armstrong: So I get on the road, go over to the house, and he's in there.
- 13:32Don Armstrong: And uh I said, Dad, what's going on?
- 13:34Don Armstrong: Well, um, just getting ready to go bowling.
- 13:37Don Armstrong: I said, Dad, you can't go bowling.
- 13:39Don Armstrong: How are you gonna get there?
- 13:40Don Armstrong: Um, car?
- 13:41Don Armstrong: I said, You don't have a car anymore.
- 13:43Don Armstrong: And the reason being he didn't have a car, because he did the same thing a couple months earlier, and uh this was around midnight or so.
- 13:51Don Armstrong: He gets out in the car, headed to the bowling alley in a rainstorm and hits a tree head on.
- 13:56Don Armstrong: I went and sailed the car after this wreck, and it really messed up his face with the airbags and everything.
- 14:02Don Armstrong: And uh it was it was terrible.
- 14:04Don Armstrong: The the front end of the car, it was a Malibu.
- 14:08Don Armstrong: Front end of the car was all the way up to the dashboard of the car.
- 14:12Don Armstrong: And uh how he survived, I guess just the seat belt and the airbag saved him.
- 14:16Don Armstrong: But uh, at any rate, so there comes a time.
- 14:19Don Armstrong: So he kind of took the keys away from himself, and he didn't ask for another car, and he knew that, and so I wound up, you know, doing the grocery store runs, taking him to the doctor, taking him the hot, whatever he needed.
- 14:31Don Armstrong: But um, it's a commitment.
- 14:32Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 14:33Don Armstrong: Mars knows all about it with his mom.
- 14:34Don Armstrong: How old is your mom now, Mike?
- 14:36Mike Marrs: 97.
- 14:37Don Armstrong: She's 97.
- 14:38Mike Marrs: But I had that same conversation with my father when he was 90, but he had uh a physical issue came up.
- 14:44Mike Marrs: We made him uh get some hand controls for the van.
- 14:47Mike Marrs: You know, either give us the keys or we put the hand controls in.
- 14:50Mike Marrs: And we put the hand controls in, and he drove another year or two with that, and then it was finally, okay, that that you're done.
- 14:57Mike Marrs: Sorry.
- 14:58Mike Marrs: You know, it was a tough call, just like what it talked about.
- 15:01Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 15:02Don Armstrong: So uh it's a good point to be made.
- 15:04Don Armstrong: And uh I know that we've got viewers that uh have elderly parents, and you go, at what point do you even begin to talk to them about that?
- 15:14Don Armstrong: Because for you, me, for all of us, we're all car lovers, and I enjoy driving, and I don't like uh I don't like uh steering wheel that tries to drive for me, it drives me insane.
- 15:25Don Armstrong: So I usually turn that feature off if the car has one.
- 15:28Don Armstrong: Um, but I enjoy driving and I've been very fortunate in that I've never had a major accident, and I'm pretty good when it comes to avoiding tickets.
- 15:37Don Armstrong: So whatever.
- 15:38Mike Marrs: Not only do we enjoy driving, but I mean there's also that sense of freedom as you get older, and the less you can get out and about and go do things, you start losing your your ability to go across town to a friend's house.
- 15:51Mike Marrs: Makes it even worse.
- 15:52Mike Marrs: You just feel more restricted.
- 15:54Mike Marrs: So it's one of those things.
- 15:57Don Armstrong: Yes, it is.
- 15:57Don Armstrong: All right, coming up, Jeff has the cruise in and events calendars, and I'll have the stories making automotive news headlines this week.

- 18:02SPEAKER_04: Figure that out.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:04Don Armstrong: Yeah, my mind just went there for a minute.
- 18:07Don Armstrong: Which is unusual.
- 18:08Don Armstrong: It doesn't really go anywhere anymore.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: You've got to write that down.
- 18:11Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:12Don Armstrong: I was with that for an excuse.
- 18:15Don Armstrong: You've been kind of lying to Becky.
- 18:17Don Armstrong: Now you've got a real honest excuse.
- 18:19Don Armstrong: It's called the Jeff Zeke excuse.
- 18:23Don Armstrong: Yeah, of course, you missed the live show.

- 18:33Jeff Dziekan: Alrighty.
- 18:33Jeff Dziekan: These are for next weekend, 4th of July.

- 20:09Jeff Dziekan: Say that fast.
- 20:10Jeff Dziekan: It's in spring.
- 20:11Jeff Dziekan: It's at 9595 6 Pines Drive.

- 20:23Jeff Dziekan: They have it in the woodlands and then they do it in the spring too.
- 20:25Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 20:26Jeff Dziekan: So this is their event.
- 20:27Jeff Dziekan: Uh it's a 501c3 nonprofit supporting families uh for affected things of uh loss of parents, suicide, and stuff like that.
- 20:36Jeff Dziekan: So get out there and and and support them if you could.
- 20:39Jeff Dziekan: And then you got uh July 5th, the Sunday.
- 20:41Jeff Dziekan: It's a boat and car show.
- 20:43Jeff Dziekan: Check this out.
- 20:43Jeff Dziekan: It's in Atascasita, it's uh Atascasita Road, I should say, 10614.
- 20:48Jeff Dziekan: It's in Huffman, Texas, and uh it takes place Lake Houston Brewery in Huffman, which is northeast of the room.
- 20:55Jeff Dziekan: I didn't know that.
- 20:56Jeff Dziekan: Lake Houston had a brewery.
- 20:57Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, well it's northeast.
- 20:58Jeff Dziekan: They got plenty of water, yeah.
- 20:59Jeff Dziekan: They do.
- 20:59Jeff Dziekan: That's where they get to make the brew from the water.
- 21:01Jeff Dziekan: Uh the event not really.
- 21:03Jeff Dziekan: The event features classic cars, modern bills, custom boats, along with live music, food, and cold beer, Mike.
- 21:09Jeff Dziekan: Cool.
- 21:09Jeff Dziekan: Uh trophies will be re uh awarded, and it's a$20 entry fee, and you get a raffle ticket uh to win a tow tube.
- 21:16Jeff Dziekan: That'd be great.
- 21:17Don Armstrong: What uh what was the name of that beer that they had in New Orleans?
- 21:21Don Armstrong: It's it doesn't exist anymore, and they made it from the muddy Mississippi, and it tasted awful, tasted like mud, yeah.
- 21:29Don Armstrong: Pretty much tasted like schlitz.
- 21:31Don Armstrong: Matter of fact, I think that there's a shopping mall or something in the old brewery there.
- 21:36Don Armstrong: They don't make schlitz anymore.
- 21:37Jeff Dziekan: No, no, I think what happened, they left the window and the schlitz hit the fan, is what it was.
- 21:43Don Armstrong: Yeah, you know, it's funny because when I was living in Wisconsin, Schlitz was like the beer.
- 21:49Don Armstrong: It's like the it wasn't Miller, it was Schlitz.
- 21:52Jeff Dziekan: It's like uh what's the one uh RGB?
- 21:57Jeff Dziekan: Oh, um uh blue ribbon.
- 21:59Jeff Dziekan: Blue ribbon, Paps Blue Ribbon.
- 22:00Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, P P R G P B R P R P R like that.
- 22:04Mike Marrs: You're getting there.
- 22:05Jeff Dziekan: I know.
- 22:06Mike Marrs: There's a couple more letters in the alphabet you haven't got.
- 22:08SPEAKER_04: XYZ, M-O-U-S E, all of that.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: It is a BMF.
- 22:16SPEAKER_04: That's a bicycle, isn't it?
- 22:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it is.
- 22:18Don Armstrong: All right.
- 22:19Don Armstrong: How about some news headlines?
- 22:20Don Armstrong: All right.
- 22:20Don Armstrong: You guys ready?
- 22:21Don Armstrong: All right.
- 22:22Don Armstrong: Tesla again has the most American-made vehicle.
- 22:26Don Armstrong: Let me say that again.
- 22:27Don Armstrong: Tesla is the most American-made vehicle.
- 22:32Don Armstrong: The sixth straight year, the electric vehicle manufacturer has topped the annual Cars.com rankings.
- 22:37Don Armstrong: The Model 3 Sedan and Model Y crossover held the top two spots in the 2026 Cars.com American-Made Index, buoyed by Tesla's higher percentage of domestic parts content and U.S.
- 22:52Don Armstrong: assembly employment, researchers said.
- 22:54Don Armstrong: Yet, even as Tesla continues its dominance, one of its vehicles has led the index every year since 2021.
- 23:02Don Armstrong: The presence of EVs generally is shrinking, though.
- 23:05Don Armstrong: The number of EVs that made the 2026 list fell by more than half to five from 11.
- 23:13Don Armstrong: The number of hybrids on this year's list, however, is just one fewer than a year ago, even though car sales overall are down.
- 23:21Don Armstrong: A year ago, six of the top 10 were EVs.
- 23:25Don Armstrong: Consumers often assume American brands will top American-made lists, according to the spokesperson, but most now are international brands.
- 23:34Don Armstrong: Japan's Toyota and Honda had the most vehicles on the 2026 index at 14 and 13, respectively.
- 23:54Don Armstrong: Uh huh this week, July 1st, unless the state delays vehicle technology rules that aim to prevent perpetrators of domestic violence from tracking survivors.
- 24:08Don Armstrong: What how convoluted.
- 24:11Don Armstrong: I get it, but really?
- 24:13Don Armstrong: The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents GM, Toyota, Hyundai, and most other automakers, said unless a legislative proposal is signed into law by July 1st, there is substantial risk that auto sales in California will be suspended.
- 24:29Don Armstrong: Jack Nierad, what are you gonna do?
- 24:31Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 24:32Don Armstrong: The group said automakers are implementing the domestic violence victim protections required under the 2024 law, but compliance with some elements of the law is impossible this year.
- 25:05Don Armstrong: Because you know, your car, all these new cars that I drive, they know where the car is all the time because it's connected.
- 25:13Don Armstrong: And you can see it under the hood, it's a little green light.
- 25:15Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:16Jeff Dziekan: Uh my preview this is.
- 25:18Mike Marrs: That's part of the GPS system that that helps the the guidance systems that are built into the car.
- 25:23Mike Marrs: You know, where are you at, where you're going, and all that.
- 25:25Don Armstrong: Yeah, your GPS.
- 25:26Don Armstrong: Yes, exactly.
- 25:27Mike Marrs: And and if you start turning off stuff, you you're gonna turn off more stuff than what you want, at least my understanding.
- 25:35Jeff Dziekan: And you'll you found that out through AVG, and you'll feel you'll you start turning off stuff, it's going to affect the performance of the vehicle, too, because uh I was told that don't mess with it, uh you know, through the dealer, of course, because they want to track that and they want to know all this other stuff, speed and it's I don't like it.
- 25:54Jeff Dziekan: Well, big brothers watch it necessary, but I don't like it.
- 25:56Mike Marrs: Yeah, but I don't know how you can you can go in and say this one car out of the millions of cars that are on the road, we're gonna turn this off.
- 26:04Mike Marrs: So one person, this this physical violence person that you've got a court order against can't track you.
- 26:12Mike Marrs: Well, my question would be how can you track them to begin with?
- 26:14Don Armstrong: Well, they're cutting off ankle miners.
- 26:16Don Armstrong: Well, you can go you can go to uh any auto parts store and guy get a tracker and stick it underneath somebody's car and track them all over the world.
- 26:24Mike Marrs: Yeah, but then you how are you going to turn their phone off that also has trackers in it?
- 26:28Don Armstrong: Well, I was I was just gonna say because now there is an app that you can buy that on your phone, you can track, I can track where you are, Mars, just by your phone number.
- 26:39Don Armstrong: If you got your phone on you, I can I know where you are.
- 26:41Don Armstrong: That's the 360 thing.
- 26:42Don Armstrong: They have that for kids too.
- 26:44Mike Marrs: Well, but there's one you kind of put it in there, but I didn't realize that, like Don't say, he could take that app and put my phone number in it, and he could watch where I'm going.
- 26:53SPEAKER_04: I know where you are.
- 26:56Don Armstrong: Well, there's an there's another wrinkle to that, and uh it's like wow.
- 27:00Don Armstrong: And just before you sit down, there's a on the door.
- 27:02Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 27:03Don Armstrong: Hey man, stick them up.
- 27:04Don Armstrong: I saw you just went to the bank.
- 27:06Mike Marrs: Got it.
- 27:07Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 27:08Mike Marrs: I just saw that you left your house, so now I know the house is empty.
- 27:11Mike Marrs: Oh, that's true.
- 27:12Mike Marrs: True, yeah.
- 27:14Don Armstrong: Hey, uh, another story as the artificial intelligence boom continues, auto industry companies are competing with tech giants for access to memory chips, a shift that is driving up costs and triggering structural changes to the supply chain.
- 27:27Don Armstrong: Just as automakers lean into the software-defined vehicle transition, spot prices for a type of in-demand memory called DRAM skyrocketed about 450% from September of last year to January of this year.
- 27:43Don Armstrong: September.
- 27:44Don Armstrong: October, November, December, January.
- 27:46Don Armstrong: Four months.
- 27:47Don Armstrong: According to a May report from the consulting firm Kearney, DRAM is uh key to enabling over-the-year updates, advanced driver assistance systems, uh, autonomy infotainment, and other functions for advanced vehicles that consumers increasingly expect.
- 28:03Don Armstrong: Automakers have already reported millions of dollars in losses tied to the shortage of these important pieces of hardware.
- 28:10Don Armstrong: Stay tuned.
