- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So question of the day, why do we revisit the most painful
- 0:35moments? Because aren't they the most
- 0:37painful moments that we would want?
- 0:39You think we'd want to run away from them?
- 0:41But I ironically, here's the crazy part.
- 0:44There is nothing that stops us from doing that.
- 0:48We could just not think about them again.
- 0:49They're gone. But we don't.
- 0:51We do think about them. We go back and forth and we
- 0:54actually take this painful, the most painful parts of our lives
- 0:59and we keep running them over and over and over.
- 1:03You know, when I was younger, there was a horrible movie that
- 1:05we went to see, Howard the Duck. Worst movie and just dumb.
- 1:11And I remember. The person I saw the movie with
- 1:14was like, no, we have to stay and see it.
- 1:16And I was like, this is dumb. I will never get the brain cells
- 1:19back that I'm wasting watching this movie.
- 1:21But guess what? We had to stay and watch the
- 1:23movie because that was the rule that he had in his head.
- 1:26You have to stay and watch the movie.
- 1:28Well, I I got to tell you, it was one of the worst movies that
- 1:33I've ever seen in my life. And I never wanted to see it
- 1:36again. Years later, my daughter sees
- 1:38this movie somewhere and she says to me, mom, can we watch
- 1:41Howard the Duck? And it was instantaneous.
- 1:43No. And she's like, well, maybe it
- 1:44won't be that bad. I'm like, no, no, it was that
- 1:46bad. And I'm not watching it again.
- 1:48And I'm really proud of myself for the fact that I believe
- 1:51those things. Like, if something has been done
- 1:54and it's terrible. And believe me, I've had some
- 1:56really challenging things happen in my life.
- 1:58And I don't choose to replay the story because.
- 2:02It doesn't help me. And I had to learn that.
- 2:05And I used to replay the story. I used to replay a lot of
- 2:08stories and I learned that they bring me anxiety and pain and
- 2:12they bring me sadness. What the heck am I doing?
- 2:17Why am I telling the same story? That sucks.
- 2:20And I realized it's a pattern. And the brain, our all of our
- 2:24brains are wired to make sure that we don't.
- 2:28Have things happen to us. They're trying to protect us,
- 2:30but in the course of trying to protect us, they torture us
- 2:34because they keep running the story to remind us not to do
- 2:38stupid things. But the problem is it then it
- 2:41becomes a habit, and then it's like any other habit.
- 2:44If it's a habit, and it's a great habit, then run it.
- 2:47And if it doesn't serve you, don't run it.
- 2:50But it's a hard task, and the first step in the task is
- 2:54recognizing that it doesn't serve you.
- 2:56So when you keep realizing that you're revisiting the most
- 3:00painful moments over and over again, you have to find a better
- 3:04moment that's more positive to run with it, according to
- 3:08Dottie, even hear her. Yes, I know, dot.
- 3:11So it's it isn't. Imperative part of the process
- 3:15to say what is the phrase I'm going to replace these painful
- 3:19moments with? What's the reminder I'm going to
- 3:21put out there to myself? What's the thought I'm going to
- 3:24give myself rather than just sitting there and saying I don't
- 3:28want to think that way, I don't want to think that way because
- 3:30that's what most of us do. We sit there and say, I don't
- 3:32want to think that way. Well, not wanting something
- 3:35doesn't make it go away. Not wanting something doesn't
- 3:38make it go away. Really focusing on the fact that
- 3:42you're going to? Essentially, be so on point with
- 3:46your thoughts that you're like, Nope, you're the guard at the
- 3:48door. You're those gargoyles in those
- 3:51big castles that look down and say no thanks, you're out.
- 3:56You know the Queen's guard. You're not coming in, you're not
- 3:59letting them in. Make the decision to defend your
- 4:03bus. Defend your ground.
- 4:05Do not let those negative thoughts and those negative
- 4:09patterns and moments that happened and are gone by the way
- 4:13they are gone. They're not coming back.
- 4:15They're gone. Why revisit them?
- 4:18It's it's the most useless waste of time when you really realize
- 4:22it, and as long as you've gotten the lesson from it and what you
- 4:26learned from it and you say, okay, I got that.
- 4:29Then there's no reason to go back.
- 4:31You can put the lesson to play without actually going back, but
- 4:35it takes us being vigilant. So when I tell you I put my
- 4:39fingers in my ears, I don't want to hear things I am 100% true
- 4:44about that I surround myself with as much positivity as I
- 4:47possibly can, and I refuse to revisit times that just don't
- 4:52help me. So I'm willing to always give
- 4:57myself the opportunity. Now, that doesn't mean that you
- 5:00keep walking into the same types of situations and be stupid and
- 5:03repeat it because you're supposed to have learned
- 5:05something from it in the meantime.
- 5:08If you take this on to heart, I promise you it will change the
- 5:12way you think. But you and only you can make
- 5:15the decision about what you're willing to defend and what
- 5:18you're willing to tolerate. So ask yourself the question,
- 5:22why do I revisit my painful moments?
- 5:24Is it really helping me? And if the answer is no.
- 5:26Then make a decision to tell yourself this is ending today.
- 5:30Alright my friends, I hope you have a wonderful day.
- 5:34I hope you figure out your new phrase that you're going to use
- 5:37every time those come up and move forward with it because
- 5:42it's the best feeling when you do.
- 5:44Alright, I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:46Bye.
