- 0:11SPEAKER_03: Well, hello from wherever you're listening.
- 0:14SPEAKER_03: Listen, this is another reason we need to video this thing.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: Because if you could see the eye roll.
- 0:19SPEAKER_03: The eye rolls.
- 0:22SPEAKER_05: Do I because you do the same dance every time?
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Another reason why we need a video.
- 0:28SPEAKER_05: I don't know if anybody else needs to see that.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know why you have your Bible open without your glasses here.
- 0:33SPEAKER_05: I know I can't read it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: What?
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: What's going on, Kelly?
- 0:37SPEAKER_05: I am old.
- 0:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 0:39SPEAKER_05: Is what's going on.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: And we're eating uh Sunday night and she handed me the menu.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: It's like this for me.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: What this has on it.
- 0:46SPEAKER_05: It's dark in there.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: I mean it's cracker barrel, so I don't know.
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: It was dark in there.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: And cracker barrel?
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's no, it cannot be dark and cracker barrel.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Everybody that eats there is 80.
- 0:56SPEAKER_05: It's pretty dark.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: There's a lot, there's got to be a lot of light.
- 0:59SPEAKER_05: Sean, I'm going with the flashlight.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: It was not.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: It was the bright and sunny outside.
- 1:06SPEAKER_05: No, it was not.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: You guys spent the weekend at the Covered Bridge Festival, correct?
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Was it good?
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Tell me your your which is uh I mean it sounds like tons of food trucks.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Tons.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: Tons.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: We didn't even eat any food.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Most exciting food truck you saw.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Tell us about it.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: Well, you know how much of a foodie I am, Sean.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: Oh, I made a chest too.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: I ate French fries.
- 1:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was gonna actually say french fries.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: It was either chips.
- 1:29SPEAKER_05: Then the next day, chips with barbecue sauce on the barbecue meat on top.
- 1:34SPEAKER_05: I didn't eat a lot.
- 1:35SPEAKER_05: No, it's nostalgia for us.
- 1:37unknown: Yeah.
- 1:37SPEAKER_05: That's why we like it.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Why nostalgia?
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 1:39SPEAKER_05: Because my family grew up.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: I mean, his mom dad went a long time ago too.
- 1:43SPEAKER_05: My parents used to go every year.
- 1:45SPEAKER_05: And it used to be a huge craft festival.
- 1:47SPEAKER_05: Now it's like shopping Amazon Live with a few crafts mixed in.
- 1:52SPEAKER_05: I was like, if I want to shop on Amazon, I just mean shopping Amazon Live.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: Like anything on Amazon you can buy.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: We're there in bullshit.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Get some squishies and some butter.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Oh gosh.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, butter's all the squishies.
- 2:03SPEAKER_05: I'm like, we should call Kind of which ones are the best.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: But yeah, it just is the same.
- 2:09SPEAKER_05: A lot of boutiques.
- 2:11SPEAKER_05: Like which you can shop all the time.
- 2:12SPEAKER_05: Is it in Bloomington?
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Where is it at?
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: It's not obviously in Bloomington, but Terry Hill.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: It's in Mansfield.
- 2:17SPEAKER_05: It's not in Terra Haute, actually.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: I mean it's 20 minutes from the city.
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: Mansfield, Terrahote.
- 2:21SPEAKER_05: Nobody's heard of those.
- 2:22SPEAKER_05: Bridgeton.
- 2:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but exactly.
- 2:24SPEAKER_05: But they're all have actual covered bridges in their towns.
- 2:27SPEAKER_05: Okay, so you have to go through a covered bridge.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: I mean a little apple dumpling with some ice cream on top.
- 2:34SPEAKER_05: I used to get curly fries with malt vinegar every year.
- 2:37SPEAKER_05: Let's go.
- 2:37SPEAKER_05: If you've never had malt vinegar on fries, it's game, it's so good.
- 2:42SPEAKER_05: But I didn't get it this year.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, coffee trucks and they had all kinds of food trucks.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: I mean, I was saying, we have such trouble finding food trucks when we have want to have them for events.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: There were hundreds.
- 2:52SPEAKER_05: Hundreds.
- 2:53SPEAKER_05: I was like, well, where are all these people from?
- 2:54SPEAKER_05: Because they find them.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: They're traveling.
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's great.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: That's we'll go back.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: It's been a thing.
- 3:01SPEAKER_05: We bought Indiana University things.
- 3:04SPEAKER_05: That's what we bought.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: We bought zero craft items.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: We did leave there and went to Bloomington.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: So spent a couple hours there.
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 3:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:12SPEAKER_05: Which we do need to go back.
- 3:13SPEAKER_05: I've never been on the campus of Indiana University.
- 3:15SPEAKER_05: That's beautiful.
- 3:16SPEAKER_05: What?
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: You played games?
- 3:18SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 3:18SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 3:19SPEAKER_05: You guys look like a parking lot.
- 3:20SPEAKER_05: I was there with you.
- 3:21SPEAKER_05: But we were like on campus.
- 3:23SPEAKER_05: That was like in the parking lot and then the stadium was like out.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we walked right to the stadium.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: It's beautiful.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I would love to know what's going on.
- 3:30SPEAKER_05: But their buildings are beautiful.
- 3:32SPEAKER_05: It's the biggest Starbucks I've ever seen.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: That Starbucks was big.
- 3:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: On campus?
- 3:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: It's a hotel student union.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: So people are studying next to a Starbucks and then the biggest bookstore I've ever seen in my life.
- 3:44SPEAKER_05: He's like, I don't think we should walk through here.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: I'm like, oh yeah.
- 3:46SPEAKER_05: It doesn't say library.
- 3:47SPEAKER_05: It just says study or something.
- 3:49SPEAKER_05: Let's go.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Study.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: It's good to see.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: It was overwhelming, man.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: There's so much red.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And it's like, I don't know which thing to buy.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Lots of red.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: We came back with a few items.
- 4:00SPEAKER_05: Like two.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: Boy, that's not bad.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: I came back with more than that.
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: I didn't buy a thing.
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: Well, it was funny.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: This is this is how you know you've been married a long time.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Do you want to get this sweatshirt?
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: We could share it.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Share it.
- 4:11SPEAKER_05: You know what one thing we used to swear?
- 4:12SPEAKER_05: We have a whole list on we actually have a whole list with our friends on what not to do when you get old.
- 4:17SPEAKER_05: Which we forget because we don't have it written down.
- 4:19SPEAKER_05: Because we're old.
- 4:20SPEAKER_05: But one thing is this is what I will not do with him.
- 4:22SPEAKER_05: I will not share food ever in my life.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Being here for 11 years, I'm aware of that.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: And like if I want to fork to the hand, that's that's what I do.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_05: And so you know, people are like, well, we're just gonna share.
- 4:35SPEAKER_05: That will never happen in my life.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Even with your kids.
- 4:38SPEAKER_05: Oh, no, especially not with them.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Challenge accepted.
- 4:41SPEAKER_05: He was like, Can we just get one drink?
- 4:42SPEAKER_05: I said, Absolutely not.
- 4:43SPEAKER_05: We cannot get one drink.
- 4:44SPEAKER_06: Oh, then that's different than a meal.
- 4:46SPEAKER_06: I would not share a do not share food.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: She does not.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: You mean you would share a drink, but you would not share a meal?
- 4:52SPEAKER_06: No, no.
- 4:52SPEAKER_06: I wouldn't share a drink, but would share a meal.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, share a meal, you're getting a different plate.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, moving this over.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: It's not like you're eating it.
- 5:00SPEAKER_06: If I'm sharing a drink, I have to clear your mouth every time you take it back.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: So we're like, you have no problem with that.
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: I like if you share dessert off the same plate.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: Oh, see, that doesn't matter.
- 5:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, we do that all the time.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, just for the record, we do kiss, though.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm I'm just saying, like, but we do not share.
- 5:17SPEAKER_05: I know what's going on in my pastor's mind right now, and he's like, he's just not saying it out loud.
- 5:21SPEAKER_05: I'm just like, I mean, do not do not put it.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: How many kids do you guys have?
- 5:27SPEAKER_05: Naturally born.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: Do not put your lips on my straw.
- 5:32SPEAKER_05: No, absolutely not.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: It's the spit that goes back down the straw.
- 5:37SPEAKER_05: That's fair.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Do I just okay, we're done with that.
- 5:39SPEAKER_05: We're done with that.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: I think we should move on.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: I don't like I don't like those kind of warnings on our podcast.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: So true.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: Sorry, Mateo.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Well, we're glad you guys got a weekend away.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was good.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Glad you got a weekend away.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: It was a good weekend.
- 5:53SPEAKER_05: I'm even it took a village of people for us to go away, but it was fine.
- 5:57SPEAKER_05: Thank you for all for help.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is true.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: It does take a minute.
- 6:02SPEAKER_05: Well, if we don't have a grandma around, then it you have to piece the people together.
- 6:06SPEAKER_05: So grandmas were busy.
- 6:10SPEAKER_05: So that's fine.
- 6:11SPEAKER_06: That's very cool.
- 6:12SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 6:12SPEAKER_06: Grandmas have lives sometimes.
- 6:14SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 6:16SPEAKER_05: We just assume that's their way.
- 6:19SPEAKER_05: My daughter I will take anywhere with me.
- 6:21SPEAKER_05: She can just go.
- 6:22SPEAKER_05: The children living in my home have to stay home.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: That's wow.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Well, let's talk about the sermon.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Anybody can watch.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Good weird spot.
- 6:33SPEAKER_05: I had to listen to it twice.
- 6:34SPEAKER_05: Awesome.
- 6:35SPEAKER_05: Fell asleep the first time.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: It's a tendency to sometimes that happen.
- 6:40SPEAKER_05: There were a few people that are Sunday morning do the same thing.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: I was like, where are you going with that?
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's we're driving.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: We were driving.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: I was listening to it.
- 6:48SPEAKER_06: I had walked around for hours at the hot size.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: I had two times.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: Thankfully I didn't fall asleep.
- 6:52SPEAKER_05: No.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: So funny.
- 6:56SPEAKER_05: That was really good.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: That was good, yeah.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Be the church, continue the series, book of Exodus, obviously.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Just talking about who we are.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I think oftentimes we forget, like uh we put the the do before the identity.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: It's easy.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I do it all the time still.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Do before do, baby.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: Do before do, yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: And so uh uh I do it all the time.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: And uh it's just a great reminder to remind ourselves that like we were rescued.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: I think the the the best thing that was uh just a reminder for me is that like I love it in verse four where he says, You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, you know how I carried you to the uh carried you on eagle's wings, and I I brought you to myself.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: And uh I mean a lot of times we just have this idea, right?
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: That like we we found God, and I get it.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: It's the you know Ben Fuller song, but you know, I think it's so such a great reminder that like uh like we've been bought by him for purpose, for his purpose, you know.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: The other thing that was just so I mean, just soaking the idea of uh, and I want to be careful how much I move forward, but soaking the idea that like, man, like really understanding, con come uh comprehending this idea that like God came after me.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, I've taken the time in my story because I have a uh unique story, and I have a story of like first generation Christian.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And I think for some of us it would be much harder.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, but Shelley and I just during Discover Life, we on purpose both share our salvation stories because our stories are very different.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Like she's we've processed through my salvation story, and it's easy to do because it's happened all in my lifetime.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: You know, but her salvation story in regards to like it goes back generations.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Like we we don't even we've tried to figure out who was the first Christian, you know, wow and we can't even figure it out, you know.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: But at the same time, she still, you know, as God came after me, God also came after her.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And you know, you know, like when you you you we get this, like as you know, as we don't see it initially as a youth pastor, but like when you have kids and then you're at a youth conference, it's always like the most extreme salvation story that you hear.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: And you think, why can't we get like a story up there like of decades of yes faithfulness?
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Like that's harder to do than like, you know, like, hey bozo, I'm gonna hit you with a hammer and you finally wake up, you know what I mean?
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, kind of thing.
- 9:10SPEAKER_05: You people always think they don't have a testimony because they didn't get rescued out of drugs or you know, sleeping around or whatever.
- 9:16SPEAKER_05: And when I was doing youth many moons ago, however long ago that was, I would say all the time, don't be afraid to be the good girl or don't be afraid to be the good guy.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: Because that is your testimony that you were set apart for your entire life and you never wavered.
- 9:31SPEAKER_05: Like that's a testimony.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: You're right though.
- 9:34SPEAKER_05: That it doesn't preach as well, I guess.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_05: It should.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: It should, yeah.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, all the things I I mean, because I was twelve when my I was like twelve, thirteen when I actually got saved, but like obviously you're still working out your salvation and obviously still are kind of thing.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: But you know, like I I don't know for me, like it was such an obvious change.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: My friends knew it for like Shelly, she was it I mean, it was always going against the grain.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Like there was always the her and then us, you know, kind of thing.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: You know, in regards to well, I'm not gonna join in on that or I'm not gonna move in that direction, like, you know, or those kind of things.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: And which I experienced later, you know, obviously.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: But so anyways, I just I think it's so if we're in this series be the church, we need to take some time to really remember like how God's rescued us, like salvation.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Like we have to the pattern is salvation first, and then you're submitting, you know, saved, submit.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Like I didn't save myself.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: It wasn't because like, oh my goodness, Pastor Jamie, you made it made clear now.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Now I know it.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Like that was the Lord using Pastor Jamie to help me m understand.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Like and so uh kind of thing.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: What happens when people uh what happens when people anchor on a leader in regards to in light of their salvation?
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: So like man, like if I'm just gonna use you as an example, like um, you know, like Pastor Jamie has such a great message, I finally understand it.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: What what's the what is the concern, the fear, like the potential harm in like anchoring like your your change, not in the work of God, but the work in man.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Obviously, you and I know that like it is God's work, but sometimes as humans we have a tendency to be like whoever that person is, you made it work for me.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I don't think I don't think people know how to articulate like I like a personality or I don't like a personality.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: I like the way it's said, and so I'm associating the the influence or the the personality of the person to my faith story.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: So I can say like, oh, I was mentored, I had someone who walked with me, but what were they walking me through?
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and who were they pointing me to?
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: If I'm like there's so much that falls on me, not our not being the person that says, you know, like um, follow me as I follow Christ, right?
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: We understand that, like, but it's me following Christ, not me making something up.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: And so it's like that that to me has to be constantly communicated to the person who's being vulnerable in a spot where they're being, you know, being mentored or being walking through something difficult.
- 12:14SPEAKER_03: Like, hey, this is what the Lord says, this is what the Lord is doing.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: Um, if I'm not articulating that though, it could be easy.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: And I think with insecure leaders, they want that.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: I want you to be dependent on me.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, because then I'm needed and I'm justifying blank, fill in the blank.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Yep, totally agree with that.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: I think a lot of people love it, right?
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Because it makes you feel important, yes.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: It makes you feel valid, it makes you seen.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: Like, I've heard Mike talk about the older you get, the more you're contending for purpose.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: Because people are retiring or people uh aren't as active, or whereas I'm like, I'm leaning into the fact that you have a lot of wisdom, and so to me, it's crazy to think that all of a sudden now it's not that I'm seeing them without purpose, it's that they're feeling without purpose.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: That's totally different thing because I see Mike as extremely valuable, yes, all that, but like I think the older people get, the more they cling to that insecurity because they they're lacking purpose.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: Like, I I can't do what I used to do.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: They must not need me.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: And so statements like when this church, you know, when I die, this church dies.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: It's crazy to me, right?
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: But for some people, that feeds the insecurity of adding like this false purpose.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, when I die, this is gonna die, and I'm okay with that.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: You're like, that's dangerous.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: That's dangerous, yeah.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: I remember when my quote unquote, if you guys remember these terms, and I don't use them much anymore, but like and I don't have ever used this term for this person, but it just describes it.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: He was like a spiritual father to me, because like we were all growing together, right?
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: And I would love to hear why you're saying that because I don't know that it's good that we use those terms.
- 13:58SPEAKER_05: I okay, yeah.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the video would show that you have to talk about that.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: And so, yeah.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Let me finish you think about it.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Let me finish the story.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: But like I remember when that individual, he was an older, you know, he was a father, older individual, you know, like, you know, kind of thing.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: And um he was a spiritual mentor, spiritual father in my life.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: And I remember when he walked away from the faith.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Uh huh.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Like he completely walked away from God.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Like completely.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: And I I remember, I remember I would go to his house often and I would went to his house, and uh, I remember going to the house, and his wife answered the door, and I went in like normally, like I was just always walking in, and uh she like went downstairs and like was like, Hey, do you Sean's here?
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Are you da-da-da, what are you doing?
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: And I could hear remember hear him saying, like, tell him I'm tell him to leave to go.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Like I was at the top of the stairs, I could hear this conversation of like, no, I'm done.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I don't, I'm not interested in this life anymore, you know, kind of thing.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: And I remember like a week after that, like my youth pastor came to me and said, like, hey, how are you doing?
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: I know he was a humongous role model in your life.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Like, how is that affecting you?
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: And I was kind of confused, like, what are you talking about?
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Well, like, are you like wondering like if it's true for you?
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: I'm like, No, not at all.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Like, what like and I think because of be if I go back to like my story, it was and I wish I had said this on Sunday, but it was almost like that idea of like, if I literally was in a burning house, if I'm in a burning house and a firefighter comes in and saves my life, I'm never gonna question whether or not that firefighter saved my life.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: I'm always, I mean, for the rest of my life, he shows up at a grocery store.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Guys, this is Bill.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: This is the guy.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Listen, everybody's gotta hear this story.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I was like in a burning house, thought I was gonna die, could not breathe, had no clue I was doing.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: That man came out of nowhere and rescued me.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Rest of my life.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Like, even if he was like, Sean, I don't remember that anymore.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Dude, it doesn't matter.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Like, you did it.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Like, and it didn't, like, because there was such a there was such an effect of what God did in my life.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Like everything was So this is the lawyer.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: The lawyer didn't know.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: No.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Who is this?
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: So this is a different guy later on.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: This is probably like when I was 15, 16 years old.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: So this guy's name is Dale Rhodes.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: No.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Well, Ken Walters still was like the they were the family that brought us in.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: Did he ever come back to the Lord?
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: You know, I don't know.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Like, because by the time uh he was gone for a long time, like gotten divorced, whole situation.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I really, I really don't know.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: He was like a youth leader at the church or something like that.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Uh he was he was one of our Royal Ranger leaders.
- 16:37SPEAKER_05: But going back to your question when you said like how um what I think you were asking is like when you put your faith when like oh I was saved, let's say, through Jamie Bridges.
- 16:48SPEAKER_05: Sure.
- 16:48SPEAKER_05: Jamie Bridges is gonna fail you.
- 16:50SPEAKER_05: So that's what you're saying.
- 16:51SPEAKER_05: No, you were saved because of Jesus.
- 16:54SPEAKER_05: Yes, because he was resurrected, yeah.
- 16:58SPEAKER_05: Like, because God was coming after you.
- 17:00SPEAKER_05: Did he use Jamie Bridges to do it?
- 17:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 17:04SPEAKER_05: But he is going to mess up at some point and make you mad, whatever, you know, that he's gonna let you down.
- 17:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: That's why I think we have to process through like what is it?
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't think a lot of people would accept or have a hard time receiving.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Why would God like God rescue me?
- 17:18SPEAKER_05: Oh rescue me.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Like, and so uh, like, you know, that insecurity of like, well, who am I?
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: You know, like well, I mean, you're his and he was he's getting you, you know, kind of thing.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think spiritual father makes sense when you haven't had a father influence.
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's why I don't know.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: But but you had a fatherly influence.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: But when you're talking about your story, pretty much as a family, we're all the same time.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: You're the same time frame.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: And I'm sure your uh parents had probably more Catholic background, at least your mom, right?
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: Catholic background of of that type of more than you, but like from a standpoint of a family, so when I read like Zacchaeus and then his household, right, you think about the fact that like, man, they're in this kind of together, kind of, yeah.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: We needed spiritual parents, all of us.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I wasn't going to my dad like I mean I was as a we were going to each other as new Christians, sure, but not as in like spiritual mentorship.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 18:18SPEAKER_05: Which okay, I'm wondering this like because I have such good parents, yeah.
- 18:24SPEAKER_05: I feel like if I say spiritual mom, spiritual dad, like that is a slam to my own parents.
- 18:29SPEAKER_05: Like I have to do.
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: Shelly would never ask you.
- 18:32SPEAKER_05: I don't think Shelly's ever used those terms.
- 18:34SPEAKER_05: You Shelly would never say that.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: Why would she?
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: So when you say that, I'm like, I have a mom and dad.
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: I don't need anything.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Would you ever use that, Mateo?
- 18:42SPEAKER_05: The term of a spiritual father, like spiritual parents.
- 18:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't I don't think so.
- 18:47SPEAKER_06: I just I'm like spiritual role model, I think, would be more mentored in a mentor.
- 18:52SPEAKER_05: It's not wrong.
- 18:53SPEAKER_05: It's just every time I hear it, I kind of cringe.
- 18:56SPEAKER_05: But I always think it's a I always think it's disrespectful to my own parents.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, if they all said, hey dad, I want to introduce you to my spiritual father, I'm like, what?
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Hold up.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Like, you got one spiritual father, he's right here.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Like change his name.
- 19:11SPEAKER_05: I was a part of a youth minister alliance type thing a few years ago.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: Jamie Owen?
- 19:19SPEAKER_05: Jamie.
- 19:19SPEAKER_05: I wasn't gonna say her name.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: Oh my bad.
- 19:21SPEAKER_05: And everyone there, everyone there called her mom.
- 19:25SPEAKER_05: It was like you walked in her and so I'm with my cousin who is very much copy paste kind of of me.
- 19:32SPEAKER_05: And both of us were like, I'm not calling you mom.
- 19:35SPEAKER_05: I gotta mom.
- 19:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:36SPEAKER_05: Why would I call you mom?
- 19:38SPEAKER_05: Like, never one time we would not come out of my mouth.
- 19:41SPEAKER_05: And that's how it's just how I feel about the term spiritual mom and dad.
- 19:45SPEAKER_05: I'm not saying it's wrong.
- 19:46SPEAKER_05: And I know people have had like think about people like that, and they have helped them along in their way.
- 19:51SPEAKER_05: Just like, if you don't have a good mom and dad, or maybe your parents aren't Christians, like however it is, like you have a spiritual mentor.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: We understand this because we were youth pastors for years.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: You're completely understanding this because where you are right now.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Like the greatest role model in a kid's life, no matter what they're doing, is a parent.
- 20:09SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: And so, like to me, like I learned quickly, like, if I could get father and son, mother and daughter, whatever, moving together in Christ, like if they could actually move together as a unit, they're gonna be together forever.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: I'm no matter what, I'm gonna be in and out of the picture.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: And no matter what, like if your mom says, Oh, don't believe Sean, this is what's actually true, even though that might cause you harm and death, you're probably moving in mom's direction, not in Sean's direction.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: So, like, you know, but it goes back to what you said, I think, Jamie.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: We do that because like as leaders, we want to feel significant and we're insecure, and we need to make sure.
- 20:46SPEAKER_05: But see what I think like I don't need to be anybody's spiritual mom because you got a mom.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_05: I got enough people to mom.
- 20:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:54SPEAKER_04: I loved your story.
- 20:55SPEAKER_05: Like, this is what I was thinking when you were preaching is how you have the family that came out and literally took your family under their wings.
- 21:04SPEAKER_05: Like, does does that still happen today?
- 21:08SPEAKER_05: I'm sure it does, but like if I'm thinking about my life, like and who am I doing that for right now in that same capacity?
- 21:17SPEAKER_05: That's a huge capacity.
- 21:19SPEAKER_05: So and to a degree, we live it every day, sure to a degree, right?
- 21:25SPEAKER_05: Because we have are raising children in our home that are not ours, and we answered that call, and it has taken a lot of us the last five years, six years.
- 21:37SPEAKER_05: Um but when you're called to do something like that, or you feel God saying, like, hey, you need to go help this family out, it's gonna cost you time, money, effort, all of it.
- 21:49SPEAKER_05: And I don't know if people of twenty twenty six want to be the call to like to pay that price anymore.
- 21:57SPEAKER_05: And that's what if that I'm like, oh, if that's what it means.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: To be the church.
- 22:02SPEAKER_05: Meaning the everyday tangible things where people can it's you're not just preaching to people.
- 22:07SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: You're helping people.
- 22:09SPEAKER_05: You're serving people because that's what Jesus called us to do is serve.
- 22:12SPEAKER_05: Like who are we serving in that capacity?
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Without the Walters, I would have never seen the goodness of God.
- 22:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: I would have never seen it.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: To me, that's exactly what you're describing.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: It's like I don't know that Walters at that time was doing it for 10 other families.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: And I'll tell you, it was no, they weren't.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: And I'll tell you, I I I could sense the tension that it even cost in the city.
- 22:32SPEAKER_05: I'm sure it did.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Because there was, like you said, sacrifice, commitment, a lot of things.
- 22:37SPEAKER_05: All your pride has to be laid down.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: There's so much that we've but but it's also like something happened.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: So like extreme event.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: So like there's there's things that happen, I think, that are like, okay, we can't ignore this.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: There's a need.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: Uh what role do we play in it?
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: Like, I think those things are versus the I'm gonna go out and find me a family that I can adopt.
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: But here's the great thing about it too, is that what you're describing, it wasn't the pastor of your church.
- 23:07SPEAKER_05: No, it wasn't the associate pastor of your church, but the youth pastor.
- 23:11SPEAKER_05: They were being the church.
- 23:12SPEAKER_05: So it's like they were being the church.
- 23:14SPEAKER_05: There's four of us in this room right now.
- 23:16SPEAKER_05: We can't do that for everyone.
- 23:18SPEAKER_05: We need the church to be the church to take care of the people, like to show, like that's what it is about.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: But like that's that it's never been the case, right?
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: It's never been the case that that the the disciples or the apostles or the whoever's teaching is doing all of that.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Like we've Americanized that.
- 23:36SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 23:37SPEAKER_05: Somewhere along the way, you know what I mean?
- 23:38SPEAKER_05: Like, Pastor's John.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, I remember you reading Acts, like they brought them together, like, hey, listen, we got people arguing about who's, you know, what widow's getting this and what orphans are, you know, what families are getting this, and they're not getting enough, and these people are coming.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: It's like, all right, let's let's organize this a little differently.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: They weren't running the show.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: It was like, we need people that are coming.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: Yep, you're serving over here, you're so like all of those things.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: Like, that's what I took out of it.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: But you're talking about significant things that happened where you you can't ignore it.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: Like, I gotta something has to be done.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: And I think how many other people did this?
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: There was a lot of people.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: And that to me was like the I know the Walters did a lot, but like how many other people in that time frame?
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: It wasn't.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: You talk about the neighbor.
- 24:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, now all of a sudden the neighbors they're showering, you know, the morning of, and you're talking about somebody brings over an RV and lets us live in it.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: How did your dad uh respond like when you share those stories?
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was like, Well, well, like he actually like it's cool.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Like it's harder probably for me to share it than it is for him to share it.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Like he doesn't like like it's a wild story.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: Like you're like, well, how is this gonna land?
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: And obviously, the funny part is I told like I think you you and I talked about it and you picked up on it, like listening to it.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: But like I um I don't usually have a hard time filling 40 minutes on a Sunday morning and show like that's not a problem for me.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: And uh I got through my notes and I this is just the practical.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: I know if I have six pages, I'm 25 minutes.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: And so I had six pages, and I looked at the clock after six pages, and I had 17 minutes left.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, well, I can't let go this soon, you know.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: And it was in the worst first worship song, uh, the first service, and it was that song, whatever song was it that we sang.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Do you remember the name of the song?
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Like, it's about God saving his people, and God is so good.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Well, through that whole process, my story starts running through my head, like play by play.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I'm like, hey, if I have time at the end, I'll do it.
- 25:41SPEAKER_06: That's great.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: And so I did it.
- 25:43SPEAKER_06: It's your 17 minutes.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: 17 minutes, and I was like, Oh, I gotta wrap this up.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm listening and I'm like, Wow, the the podcast says there's 16 more minutes, but he's wrapping up his points.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: I wonder how you can't.
- 25:54SPEAKER_05: Well, because you said I'm halfway through, and he's like, Well, it's 42 minutes.
- 25:57SPEAKER_05: He wasn't halfway through yet.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: So I got a lot more.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, so I'm sharing this story.
- 26:02SPEAKER_05: I actually thought you did a very good job telling the story and being honoring to your dad.
- 26:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was thinking too.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: My dad, like, he is he is one he is not ashamed of it.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: He's very proud of what God's done in his life.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: He fully understands, like, you know, that he needed, like, it's not a bad thing at all.
- 26:19SPEAKER_05: And what a miracle.
- 26:20SPEAKER_05: Like when you were telling it, I was like, wait, did he just say set the steps on fire and then walked up the steps?
- 26:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:24SPEAKER_05: Like, what?
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Well, and that's too like the I mean, the cool story in the community is like I went to a town of 700 people.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: I never heard one negative thing about it.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: I went to school every day.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: There was one kid that said something negative and I didn't even pick it up.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: It wasn't until later on my twin sister said, Hey, did you hear what he said to us?
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Nope, what did he say?
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Like, I never heard anything negative.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: How important was it that you had your twin sister at that time?
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a great question.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: I mean I'm just thinking about like a kid that now is going to school by himself.
- 26:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because you were together.
- 26:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, gosh.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: Or even someone like, oh, I got a sister who's four years older.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: She's dealing with it, and I'm dealing with it in different ways.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: But like, how comforting was it like, I got a sister who is exactly my same age, maybe a couple minutes younger.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, no, she was younger.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: And so uh but yeah, I don't know.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: That's uh it was probably helpful.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: It's probably helpful, yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: It was probably very helpful.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: I'm just thinking about your age and man processing all that that happened.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and it I it and it's what you said.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: I've heard the story, you know, several times.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Because the church has it was because the church showed up like in ways that we didn't know.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: And so but we always stayed unit as a family, like you know, like that was consistent were you in church at that time?
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: Uh probably whatever uh once every two months.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Gotcha as a Catholic, you know what I mean?
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Like yeah, once every you know, like that's a lot of things.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: I was trying to say what you I'm just kidding.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a creaster.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: And so yeah.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: Uh so we were I mean, there was times we were consistent and times where we weren't, but I think for of you know, as th as a 12-year-old, I I knew like you knew that like something needed to change.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Like you didn't know it was Christ or anything like that, but you just knew that like we couldn't continue to live the way we were living.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Well, we didn't know that like that was gonna be the So what changed for your dad health-wise?
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: Uh I mean, I think the hope of Christ.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: I think really, because his headaches didn't necessarily go away.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: He just learned how to manage them differently.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: You know, and uh and so manage them differently.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Uh I think uh getting the help that he needed, like you know, I think he lit the the fire and it scared him?
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: And that's the reason he came up the stairs?
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: Ma uh no, I think my dad, no.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: I think that like um I think he really I don't think it scared him.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: He's not a scared individual.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: Like he doesn't like my dad doesn't uh like he walked up the stairs expecting that to kill him?
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: Uh oh uh harm him in such a way that like it would remove his pain.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: He wanted a different pain.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: My dad's backstory is that he is um uh my parents both have a wild backstory in uh in their own homes.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: And so my dad was born and raised by an alcoholic, a very abusive alcoholic.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: And so my dad literally My dad, you could beat him to death and he would feel nothing.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: You could beat him, literally.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: He shares stories with me of like just I mean there was a season where my mom and dad were struggling, and my dad looked at me, like and I was 20 years old.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: He looked at me and said, because I've been a spiritual I am a spiritual mentor to my father, and he looked at me and he said, Sean, I just need you to go get a belt and hit me with it as hard as you can.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: Like that's just gonna make it better.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: But like that's what he grew up in.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Like that was the state that he grew up in.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: And so he will tell you, he will tell you and it's not uh he's done he's uh he's had um uh he's worked on this, he's not there right, he's not he's not here right now, what I'm about to say, but like he would tell you that the best day of his life was the day his father went into a grave.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: That was the best day of his life.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: And so like moved out of the house when he was 17.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: He just said since I was a kid, all I ever knew was beating, getting beat.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: So like my dad like just doesn't like you'd never know, I would never have guessed that.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: You'd never know that about my dad.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: But it also furthers the look what the Lord has done.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: Look what the Lord has done.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: Like that's the thing.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: We can't and guys, I I mean I and Jamie, you know, and Kelly, you probably know too, but like this is just one of our stories.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Like it's just like, oh my goodness, like you know, I mean, like, and so and uh, you know, kind of thing, and lore in regards to what the Lord's done in our lives.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: So what I think I want people to know is like it didn't mean everything was perfect.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: No, you know what I mean?
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: Like I think it created, yeah, and it's probably still to this day, right?
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: There's still things that your family struggle with that you go, oh, that's my dad's dad coming out.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: Or that's some of his tendencies of his old life, or whatever the case.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Well, it's like our kids, Nathaniel and Natalie.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Like we uh, you know, my dad, like, he's learnt how to be gentle.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: He's learnt how to be, you know, like there's these kind of things.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: And so we, you know, as a father, having a son, like me being having a son, Nathaniel, like there's ways that my dad would like approach him sometimes, never physically, but you know what I mean, not like as that tender-hearted like kind of thing.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: And and I'd be, I would get upset and I'm like, wait a second, and the Holy Spirit would quickly remind me, backstory.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: You gotta know backstory.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Remember backstory.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: So then I would sit Nathaniel down like as a 10, 11-year-old boy.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: I'm like, hey, listen, so let's talk about grandpa, let's talk about his backstory, let's talk about how we need to approach it.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Spiritual, I always tell Nathaniel, spiritual maturity doesn't mean spiritual age, son.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: So when you think that grandpa's coming at you in a way and you take it a certain way, you have to understand backstory.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: So then, like, now the way my my kids love my dad, like, but they understand if I would have never explained backstory, they would have been like, what's wrong with grandpa?
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: What's his problem?
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Like, well, his problem is he's still working out his salvation.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Like, he's saved, you know what I mean?
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: But he's still working it out, and we need to understand that.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Like, and if we don't, we're doing a disservice to what God's doing in his life.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you know, because I didn't have to live through his childhood, you know.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: I didn't I'm praise God.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Like, how the miracle and the fact that like I grew up with my father was my father's dad, my grandpa, which I never met the man.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: I don't even know what he looks like.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, well, that's the other thing.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, like this um my dad's dad, uh he um abusive alcoholic, uh, we don't have never had alcohol in our home, and my dad's never ever physically touched me, like in a negative way.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Never.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Like that is one generation.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I'm very thankful.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: So the things that my dad's overcome, I'm like, and one generation, you know what I mean?
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Like, we're not we're not a you know what I mean?
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: Like, it's all different.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so and it's because my dad responded the right way to uh a very horrible situation.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: And so but so very thankful for my dad and his steps for sure.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Incredible.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: It's good.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: We're ending there.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: I guess I should pray.
- 32:53unknown: I'll pray.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Uh Lord, we thank you so much for uh today.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: We thank you for the church.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Uh God, I'm grateful for the church.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: So grateful for the church.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: And uh God, I pray you'd help us to just be the church.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: God, that you'd allow us to see uh individuals uh and where they're at in the process of uh their salvation and your and you rescuing them, uh and that they and that we might come alongside of your work and uh help us not to um uh you know process our way, but help us to process with the with the understanding of uh the Holy Spirit so that we might not put damage or hinder what it is that you're doing, uh, but we might walk alongside of what you're doing and support and encourage it.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: And so, God, I just ask that you'd help us to be everything you call us to be and to keep our eyes open to pay attention to what's going on so that we can be the church and seasons of people's lives when they need us to be.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: And it's your all thing we pray.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Amen.
