- 1:04Speaker 3: I am so happy to have you.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Let me fill you in.
- 1:07Speaker 3: The annual Turning the Page series is when I sit
- 1:11Speaker 3: down with some of your favorite guests from the last
- 1:14Speaker 3: three sixty five to chat about what lessons they're bringing
- 1:16Speaker 3: with them into the new year. Each guest gives us
- 1:21Speaker 3: some highlights from their past year, they offer up a
- 1:24Speaker 3: word that they're focusing on in the new year, and
- 1:26Speaker 3: then share some advice on how to move through the
- 1:30Speaker 3: next fifty two weeks with grace and a positive outlook.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yesterday I had my friend Manaj Dias on the show,
- 1:39Speaker 3: the co founder and vice president of Mindfulness at Open. I.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Oh my god, I could listen to that episode over
- 1:46Speaker 3: and over. I love his soothing voice. But not to worry.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I'm bringing in another heavy hitter today and that is
- 1:54Speaker 3: the one and only Kirsten Ferguson. She is a Peloton
- 1:57Speaker 3: instructor and one of your favorite guests from twenty twenty two.
- 2:02Speaker 3: No surprise there, Kirston and I are reconnecting for today's
- 2:06Speaker 3: episode about all of the hurdles that she has overcome
- 2:11Speaker 3: in the past three sixty five. This single mom of
- 2:15Speaker 3: two knows a thing or two about resilience and also
- 2:20Speaker 3: authenticity and showing up exactly as she is to stand
- 2:25Speaker 3: tall and proud in front of the Peloton community. There
- 2:29Speaker 3: are so many amazing, amazing themes in this episode and takeaways.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Kirsten slams the door on the idea of feeling like
- 2:38Speaker 3: you should do anything, talking about the importance of knowing
- 2:42Speaker 3: your why and trusting your gut. Super solid advice to
- 2:47Speaker 3: kick us off in the new year. Plus, she also
- 2:51Speaker 3: highlights a big, scary goal she has for twenty twenty three,
- 2:55Speaker 3: and I think it's safe to say that it's one.
- 2:57Speaker 4: That a lot of you are going to be a
- 3:00Speaker 4: empt on.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Make sure, if you're not doing so yet, you're following
- 3:03Speaker 3: along with Hurdle over on social It's at Hurdle Podcast.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I am over at Emily a body.
- 3:08Speaker 3: I've got a couple spots left in tonight's goal setting workshop.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I'd love to see you there live at seven thirty Eastern.
- 3:16Speaker 3: The link for more deets and a register is in
- 3:19Speaker 3: the show notes. And with that, let's get to hurdling.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Today.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I am sitting down with my girl, Kirsten Ferguson. How
- 3:33Speaker 3: you doing today?
- 3:34Speaker 2: Hey, dame, It's so good to see you. It's such
- 3:37Speaker 2: an honor to be back on here with you. Thank
- 3:39Speaker 2: you for having me.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Oh my god, thank you for making the time. There
- 3:43Speaker 3: is no better way in my mind to start the
- 3:46Speaker 3: year than to do it with a sit down with you,
- 3:50Speaker 3: especially because, let's be honest, twenty twenty two was a.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Big year for you. How are you doing in this
- 3:56Speaker 4: moment right now?
- 3:59Speaker 2: You know, twenty twenty two has been a year of
- 4:02Speaker 2: huge high highs and then navigating the highs while life
- 4:08Speaker 2: still happens, if that makes any sense. So it's been
- 4:12Speaker 2: a journey just navigating this beautiful world called Peloton, but
- 4:17Speaker 2: also just navigating life as a single mom and dealing
- 4:22Speaker 2: with real life things that happen, all while trying to
- 4:25Speaker 2: be great at what I.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Do first full year with the brand.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Do you have any underlying takeaways that right off the
- 4:35Speaker 3: bat come to mind?
- 4:36Speaker 2: You know, one big learning I think for me when
- 4:39Speaker 2: I first started is I was very honest about the
- 4:42Speaker 2: hurdles that I've been through my life to get to
- 4:45Speaker 2: where I was. But then now I'm learning the more
- 4:50Speaker 2: authentic and vulnerable I can be about the things that
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'm walking through today. It has made me a better
- 4:57Speaker 2: instructor and better coach, and I bring that to every
- 5:01Speaker 2: class that I teach now. And that was something I
- 5:04Speaker 2: had to learn, Like I had to learn that I
- 5:06Speaker 2: don't have to have it all together, you know, to
- 5:09Speaker 2: teach a fantastic class, I can say, you know what, y'all,
- 5:12Speaker 2: Today is a day, so we are going to run
- 5:14Speaker 2: through it, and nine times out of ten, there's a
- 5:18Speaker 2: bunch of people on there that are feeling that exact
- 5:20Speaker 2: same thing.
- 5:21Speaker 1: So those are just some things that I've had to
- 5:24Speaker 1: learn along the way.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Is you don't have to have all of the answers
- 5:27Speaker 2: and have it all together and have everything be perfect
- 5:30Speaker 2: and pretty every single time you step on the tread.
- 5:33Speaker 3: You said high highs, a lot of them to be
- 5:36Speaker 3: thankful for this year.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Give us some insight.
- 5:40Speaker 3: What would you say were some of perhaps your shiniest
- 5:43Speaker 3: moments from twenty twenty two.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Specifically with Peloton. I think it was creating what I
- 5:50Speaker 2: love to call intention Setting Sunday, which is my longer
- 5:53Speaker 2: walking content on Sundays where I share a series of
- 5:56Speaker 2: affirmations and I take people on journey of setting intentions
- 6:02Speaker 2: for the week, for the month, for the year, and
- 6:05Speaker 2: it's just grown to be one of my favorite classes
- 6:08Speaker 2: to teach. At first, it was daunting, like a forty
- 6:10Speaker 2: five to sixty minute walk, What the heck am I
- 6:12Speaker 2: going to talk about? But now I find myself really
- 6:14Speaker 2: looking forward to it and growing with the members that
- 6:19Speaker 2: take the class, so that to me is one of
- 6:22Speaker 2: my high highs. Like the other day, I was able
- 6:25Speaker 2: to teach a sixty minute gospel walk, which is something
- 6:29Speaker 2: I really wanted to bring to the tread as well,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and to be able to accomplish that and for it
- 6:34Speaker 2: to be so well received was exciting for me. And
- 6:39Speaker 2: then there's just so many classes and moments that you
- 6:42Speaker 2: don't even realize are going to be special until you
- 6:45Speaker 2: get off and you're like wow, you know. And now
- 6:48Speaker 2: we have members in the studio, which is a whole
- 6:50Speaker 2: different experience, and it's amazing. It's amazing because you talk
- 6:56Speaker 2: to these members every single day, but then you meet
- 7:00Speaker 2: them in person, You're like, wow, you're real and they're
- 7:02Speaker 2: like wow, you're real, and like you touch them, and
- 7:04Speaker 2: it's amazing. It's amazing. You know. When I first started
- 7:08Speaker 2: at Peloton, I was a little worried about kind of connection.
- 7:11Speaker 2: You know. I taught at a cycle studio and I
- 7:13Speaker 2: had so much connection with the members that took my class,
- 7:16Speaker 2: and I was worried, you know, teaching at Peloton, you know,
- 7:19Speaker 2: you don't see them, you only see them on Instagram.
- 7:21Speaker 1: But now it's it's the best of both worlds.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And really building community with everybody that takes classes and
- 7:28Speaker 2: experiences it with you.
- 7:30Speaker 3: High High off the tread, High High Off the tread is.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Experiencing my two little girls turning into little grown women
- 7:42Speaker 2: right now, and it's like they are completely complete sponges
- 7:49Speaker 2: and they want to walk like me, talk like me.
- 7:52Speaker 2: And so when you see them and my daughter comes
- 7:54Speaker 2: downstairs in like a crop sweatshirt abs arow and I'm like, whoa,
- 7:59Speaker 2: what is happening right now? I need you to go
- 8:01Speaker 2: back upstairs? And she like goes in my closet. Now
- 8:04Speaker 2: she's seven. It's wild. It's wild. But watching them just
- 8:11Speaker 2: grow and turn into little women has been so amazing.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And that's one of my learning lessons this year too,
- 8:17Speaker 2: is just being fully present with them because it goes
- 8:19Speaker 2: by so fast. Everybody touch you that it's gonna go
- 8:21Speaker 2: by so fast, so fast, and then you're like, whoa, no,
- 8:23Speaker 2: it really does.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Well.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Hopefully some of your crop sweatshirts would be full sweatshirts
- 8:30Speaker 3: on them.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Good girl. No, that's the crazy thing. That's the crazy thing.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Like Jess gave me a sweatshirt, justin gave me a sweatshirt.
- 8:39Speaker 2: It's a cute little crop sweatshirt and my daughter stole
- 8:41Speaker 2: it and I'm like, Jess, that's your sweatshirt and it's
- 8:44Speaker 2: literally cropped on her.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Oh no, I'm just creating little tall athletes.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You know, at the end of the day, so you.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Are you are, Oh my god, so much to be
- 8:54Speaker 3: grateful for. But I also do you appreciate your sentiment
- 8:57Speaker 3: around the fact that everything isn't you know, totally shiny
- 9:02Speaker 3: and wonderful all the time? Have you personally felt as though,
- 9:07Speaker 3: kind of being upfront with yourself about that when you
- 9:11Speaker 3: are constantly in front of a community trying to motivate,
- 9:15Speaker 3: trying to you know, really lift them up, have you
- 9:18Speaker 3: learned that to be challenging?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Very much so? And I think there was a point
- 9:23Speaker 2: during this year where I didn't I wasn't a low.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I was in a low, and but the classes don't
- 9:30Speaker 2: stop right, and I kind of struggled with you know,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I always want to walk in my authentic self and
- 9:39Speaker 2: learning how to motivate and inspire people when you don't
- 9:43Speaker 2: actually feel motivated and inspired to do what you do.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And that is where I think.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I started to shine. Was like, y'all, I'm in a
- 9:55Speaker 2: season of waiting, right and it's not easy, and I'm
- 9:59Speaker 2: scared and I'm fearful, and I don't have all the answers,
- 10:03Speaker 2: but I know and I feel in my heart somebody
- 10:06Speaker 2: else is on here. That's walking through it too. So
- 10:08Speaker 2: let's stand in the waiting room together and see what
- 10:10Speaker 2: happened and what comes out of that, you know, and
- 10:15Speaker 2: through that, I think some of my best classes have
- 10:18Speaker 2: come from that, and I also have watched the community
- 10:23Speaker 2: grow in strength in that too, you know, to know that, hey,
- 10:27Speaker 2: I don't have to have it all together. I can
- 10:29Speaker 2: admit that, you know. You know, today I show up
- 10:32Speaker 2: at work and I may not feel a certain type
- 10:34Speaker 2: of way and that's okay. So just kind of empowering
- 10:38Speaker 2: people in a different way, right, You know, we empower
- 10:41Speaker 2: people physically in the run, but we can also empower
- 10:44Speaker 2: people mentally as well and kind of learning through that process.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I know.
- 10:49Speaker 3: You're just so big on telling people to, you know,
- 10:51Speaker 3: do whatever they have to do to take care of them.
- 10:54Speaker 3: When you look back on the past year, what would
- 10:57Speaker 3: you say some of the best things were that you
- 11:01Speaker 3: did to take care of you?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Fantastic question. One of the things that I did was
- 11:08Speaker 2: I found a life coach and she has really helped
- 11:12Speaker 2: me through the storm, through the seasons of just listening
- 11:16Speaker 2: to me and helped the guiding me. And you know,
- 11:20Speaker 2: somebody that is in my life where I could just
- 11:24Speaker 2: be raw and real and be angry. You know. There
- 11:27Speaker 2: was one time I sat on the call with her
- 11:28Speaker 2: and I just cried. She's like, good, that's exactly where
- 11:31Speaker 2: I want you to be, you know. And so I
- 11:34Speaker 2: think that was one of the best things and decisions
- 11:37Speaker 2: that I made for myself this year. And I think
- 11:41Speaker 2: also just accepting and realizing that, you know, the things
- 11:49Speaker 2: are going to happen in your life and you don't
- 11:51Speaker 2: have to have all the answers, you know, and learning
- 11:53Speaker 2: to embrace that and be okay in that, and that
- 11:58Speaker 2: is something I'm proud of because I'm not good at it.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I've never been good at it. I'm kind of always
- 12:03Speaker 2: the one that's like, Okay, that sucks, but whatever, let's
- 12:05Speaker 2: brush it under the rug.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I don't want to feel that emotion. I don't want
- 12:09Speaker 1: to deal with that emotion.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I only like to live in the happy space, the
- 12:13Speaker 2: like gooey happy space. So I'm going to live there
- 12:15Speaker 2: and I'm not going to even address any of those
- 12:18Speaker 2: feelings or emotions in my life.
- 12:20Speaker 1: And so now I'm really dealing with them and it's
- 12:23Speaker 1: hard and it's.
- 12:24Speaker 2: But that's where the work is. And I'm proud of
- 12:29Speaker 2: the person that's coming.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Out of that Amen for life coaches.
- 12:32Speaker 3: You know, it's so interesting to me thinking about your
- 12:36Speaker 3: situation and listening to you talk with so much clarity
- 12:39Speaker 3: now knowing what you have to do to take care
- 12:42Speaker 3: of yourself. First of all, it's so commendable that you're
- 12:45Speaker 3: over there putting in this work. But even more so,
- 12:48Speaker 3: you know, I think about the moments as a single
- 12:51Speaker 3: woman when I'm like, I just so badly wish that
- 12:54Speaker 3: someone could come here and like lift this burden for
- 12:57Speaker 3: a second, Like can someone just help me either it
- 13:00Speaker 3: off the floor or like god knows, like can someone
- 13:02Speaker 3: else make me dinner that's not seamless? I don't know,
- 13:05Speaker 3: But like you're over there and you probably have all
- 13:07Speaker 3: those thoughts, and you're also taking care of your girls,
- 13:10Speaker 3: So like, kudos to you, because showing up and standing
- 13:13Speaker 3: up when you don't feel so bright and shiny, it's
- 13:16Speaker 3: hella hard.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Hella hard, hella hard. And you know I've talked about
- 13:20Speaker 2: this in class. It's like standing despite the weight of
- 13:25Speaker 2: the world on your shoulders and you have wobbly legs,
- 13:28Speaker 2: But what does that feel like? What does that look like? Well,
- 13:31Speaker 2: it's standing in it, you know, as a single mom,
- 13:34Speaker 2: you don't have any other options, and it's and it's
- 13:38Speaker 2: walking in the worry, Like you know, I don't have
- 13:41Speaker 2: time for that. I got to keep going, I got
- 13:42Speaker 2: to keep moving. But one of the things I am
- 13:46Speaker 2: proud of is this year is learning how to navigate
- 13:49Speaker 2: that all and not letting the worry take me out
- 13:51Speaker 2: because it can very easily fear can stop you, and
- 13:56Speaker 2: learning to embrace it and figuring out what it is
- 13:58Speaker 2: I need to learn about myself in this season and
- 14:01Speaker 2: how can I take it and keep moving forward.
- 14:04Speaker 3: It's also that grace too, right, because like this every
- 14:07Speaker 3: day is a day that you've never done before, and
- 14:10Speaker 3: this is a season for you that you have, Like
- 14:14Speaker 3: you're learning what it means truly to be a single
- 14:17Speaker 3: mom and that has a lot of challenges.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yes it does. And you know it's not something that's
- 14:23Speaker 2: ever been done before for me, you know, And so
- 14:26Speaker 2: every day is a learning lesson, just like every day
- 14:28Speaker 2: they're going to school and learning something new. Every day,
- 14:30Speaker 2: I'm learning something new about myself. And you know, there
- 14:35Speaker 2: was a previous life where I had a partner that
- 14:38Speaker 2: I could lean on, and now it's it's learning how
- 14:41Speaker 2: to stand on my own and letting go of the
- 14:43Speaker 2: crutches that I've had in my life and calling them
- 14:46Speaker 2: out and realizing them and what I used to cling to,
- 14:51Speaker 2: and now really standing in what it means to be alone.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And that's okay.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You know. I think somehow, some way, society makes you
- 15:02Speaker 2: feel like you got to have all these things in
- 15:05Speaker 2: order to be who you're supposed to be. And that's
- 15:08Speaker 2: not my reality, and that's not my case. Yes what
- 15:11Speaker 2: I love that for myself one day, sure, But right
- 15:14Speaker 2: now in this season, it's me and my two little ones,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and I do surround myself with a village.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I think every mom needs a village of people.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I have incredible teammates at Peloton. I have my sister Jess,
- 15:26Speaker 2: who I love dearly. I have an amazing group of
- 15:29Speaker 2: mom friends. And I have my mom, who is my example.
- 15:33Speaker 2: She's always been my example, you know. She raised me
- 15:35Speaker 2: as a single mom, and so I watched her be
- 15:39Speaker 2: able to navigate her career and climb the ladder in
- 15:43Speaker 2: a male dominated field and own who she was and
- 15:47Speaker 2: still raise me, you know. And so anytime I kind
- 15:50Speaker 2: of doubt where I'm at or what I'm walking through,
- 15:53Speaker 2: I remember what she had to walk through, and I'm.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Like, no, I'll be okay, you know, be okay, I'll
- 15:58Speaker 4: be okay.
- 15:59Speaker 3: You mentioned learning the importance of letting go of maybe
- 16:02Speaker 3: a crutch that you've used in the past. Would it
- 16:04Speaker 3: be possible for you to exemplify what a crutch you
- 16:08Speaker 3: may have used previously was.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely. It's toxic relationships, right, because I fear of
- 16:15Speaker 2: not being alone, right, or fear of you know, having
- 16:20Speaker 2: to do this life. So I'm going to attach myself
- 16:22Speaker 2: with somebody that I know may not be for me,
- 16:24Speaker 2: but because I don't want to be alone, I'm going
- 16:26Speaker 2: to attach myself there. Or you know, I wasn't raised
- 16:30Speaker 2: with my dad, and so I find myself holding onto
- 16:34Speaker 2: male figures in my life, whether it was a male
- 16:37Speaker 2: friend or a boyfriend that I shouldn't have been involved with,
- 16:41Speaker 2: or friendships that weren't really for me, but I would
- 16:46Speaker 2: lean on them because I don't want to be alone.
- 16:49Speaker 2: You know. It's letting go of that and realizing what
- 16:53Speaker 2: it is that you want for you, what you will
- 16:54Speaker 2: and won't accept in life, and then standing in that,
- 16:57Speaker 2: you know. So I think those are some of them.
- 17:00Speaker 4: How did you get better at being alone?
- 17:02Speaker 3: This is literally a question that comes in for me
- 17:05Speaker 3: all the time. I'm sure that you get this question
- 17:08Speaker 3: as well. Being such a strong woman.
- 17:10Speaker 4: What would you.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Say are some of the tools that you have in
- 17:13Speaker 3: your toolbox that make you feel better standing on your
- 17:17Speaker 3: own on your own two feet.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Great question. I think it's also something that currently working
- 17:23Speaker 2: through and dealing with. You know, I'll say some of
- 17:25Speaker 2: the things that I've started to do is set an uncomfortable,
- 17:32Speaker 2: scary goal for myself and focus my energy there, but
- 17:35Speaker 2: in my energy elsewhere. You know. It's so easy to
- 17:37Speaker 2: be like harp on, this is my situation, Oh my gosh,
- 17:41Speaker 2: how can I change it?
- 17:43Speaker 1: And then you start questioning your worth are you enough?
- 17:45Speaker 2: And you can go down that spiral, right, But if
- 17:48Speaker 2: you take your mind and put it elsewhere, that's where
- 17:52Speaker 2: I've started to be like, oh wait, I can have
- 17:55Speaker 2: joy alone, like this is this is actually fun, trying
- 18:00Speaker 2: something scary, new and different and hard. I think it's
- 18:04Speaker 2: also having amazing friendships in your life, you know that
- 18:08Speaker 2: can bring you actual joy, like those belly laughs nights
- 18:12Speaker 2: with your girlfriends that are amazing, you know. So it's
- 18:17Speaker 2: finding things like that and also being more present with
- 18:20Speaker 2: my kids, you know, changing the mindset of oh no,
- 18:24Speaker 2: this is this is the monotonous of life. You gotta
- 18:27Speaker 2: get home, do the homework, do this, do that, do that?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Bedtimes at this time? No, Like, let's enjoy this, like,
- 18:32Speaker 2: let's have some fun, let's get silly, let's do fun
- 18:36Speaker 2: things together. So I've started to kind of just focus
- 18:40Speaker 2: my energy there and be be okay with being alone.
- 18:45Speaker 2: You know, are there nights that are sad and lonely? Sure,
- 18:51Speaker 2: that's when I call somebody else instead of that toxic
- 18:54Speaker 2: crutch that I know ain't for me.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Girl, I'm not calling that one.
- 18:58Speaker 3: No, no, oh man, I know that's when you need
- 19:02Speaker 3: to have, like the friend that you just call and
- 19:03Speaker 3: you're like, I'm calling you because I shouldn't be calling
- 19:05Speaker 3: somebody else.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Correct, correct, Here we are the toxic one called. I
- 19:11Speaker 1: declined that once that you need to answer.

- 22:14Speaker 3: Let's get back to the episode. So Os, Yeah, I
- 22:26Speaker 3: feel that, you know, I love what you were saying
- 22:28Speaker 3: about mixing it up and not following into the monotony
- 22:31Speaker 3: with your girls. And that could either be something, of
- 22:33Speaker 3: course that you speak about doing with a family or
- 22:36Speaker 3: you can do on your own time. I had a
- 22:37Speaker 3: conversation earlier this year with a friend of mine on
- 22:40Speaker 3: the show Nick Dio, and he spoke about what he
- 22:42Speaker 3: calls this to be, which is breaking the matrix. It's
- 22:46Speaker 3: like every day may have a similar theme, but you
- 22:48Speaker 3: can choose to do something different and tweak it just
- 22:51Speaker 3: a little bit to keep excitement in your regular routine.
- 22:54Speaker 4: So maybe if I typically go to a.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Coworking space that's twenty minutes from my home, then maybe
- 23:00Speaker 3: one day I bite there. Maybe one day I leave
- 23:03Speaker 3: an hour earlier and take a nice long walk to
- 23:05Speaker 3: get there. Maybe one day I invite someone to come
- 23:07Speaker 3: with me. You know, we have the opportunity to do
- 23:10Speaker 3: that in our day to day We just have to
- 23:11Speaker 3: accommodate for it so that we can find the fun
- 23:15Speaker 3: in what could be and otherwise, as I said, monotonous routine.
- 23:20Speaker 2: It's taking back that control too, Right, you can't control
- 23:24Speaker 2: whether you're going to be you know, you can walk
- 23:26Speaker 2: and run into whomever, Prince Charming or whatever that will
- 23:29Speaker 2: help you not be alone. But you do have the
- 23:31Speaker 2: power to create a circumstance for yourself that will bring
- 23:35Speaker 2: you joy. You know. Like even Thanksgiving this year was
- 23:37Speaker 2: very different for me and my family was much smaller,
- 23:41Speaker 2: and I could have sat in that and filed all
- 23:43Speaker 2: the feelings, but instead I planned a huge friends giving
- 23:46Speaker 2: that was surrounded by my.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Coworkers, my friends, and we had a fantastic time.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So it's like, you have the control, so you know,
- 23:55Speaker 2: get creative and play with different things.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah, And I also think there's power in the recognition
- 24:02Speaker 3: that it can be both right, Like you can recognize
- 24:05Speaker 3: and like work on being okay with feeling how that
- 24:08Speaker 3: made you feel, Like I'm the same mean as you.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Thanksgiving as a super challenging holiday for me, I can
- 24:13Speaker 3: recognize that it's going to feel some kind of way,
- 24:16Speaker 3: but then also make choices where I can look for joy.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Outside of that feeling.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Like you have the control over that, you know, it's
- 24:26Speaker 2: recognizing that for sure.
- 24:28Speaker 3: A question that I am asking everyone in this series,
- 24:31Speaker 3: what is a word, my friend, that you are bringing
- 24:34Speaker 3: with you into twenty twenty three. I'll give you an
- 24:39Speaker 3: example of my word you can marinate on yours. My
- 24:41Speaker 3: word is great. My family motto is do good. I
- 24:46Speaker 3: have grown up like wanting to do good by others.
- 24:49Speaker 3: But sometimes, and what I've realized, maybe specifically in my career,
- 24:53Speaker 3: is that I find good and I excel at good.
- 24:56Speaker 3: But sometimes I'm scared to go after great. For twenty
- 25:00Speaker 3: twenty three, I am like done shrinking myself. I am
- 25:05Speaker 3: hunting for great. I'm hunting to get good with being
- 25:08Speaker 3: uncomfortable so I can go to that next level.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Up. Whoa girl? You got me fired up? Come on
- 25:14Speaker 2: twenty twenty three? I mean, just drop the bombs. Mo,
- 25:19Speaker 2: fire more fire. You did that, girl, I'm frying up. Yah.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Hit me with a word, call you for I'm gonna
- 25:26Speaker 2: start calling you for some class like girl with couching
- 25:29Speaker 2: words to day. I think for me, if I think
- 25:33Speaker 2: it's face it, that's two words I know, but face it,
- 25:37Speaker 2: face everything that's gonna come at you like face it
- 25:39Speaker 2: till you make it almost like, don't hide it, don't
- 25:45Speaker 2: don't step ship shy away from it, step into it.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Everything that's gonna come your way, good, bad, ugly in between,
- 25:53Speaker 2: face it, and I think that is where my growth
- 25:56Speaker 2: is happening in my life, and I'm gonna really step
- 26:00Speaker 2: into that in twenty twenty three.
- 26:04Speaker 3: For people that hear that and feel inspired by your words,
- 26:09Speaker 3: face it, would you what what advice do you offer
- 26:13Speaker 3: to them so that maybe they too can stand up
- 26:17Speaker 3: and face it.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I think there's a few examples of it. Realizing and
- 26:23Speaker 2: recognizing when it is that you kind of steer away
- 26:27Speaker 2: from it or you're like, no, what that doesn't feel great.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna not deal with that emotion and step into
- 26:35Speaker 2: that and sit in it. You know, there's moments where
- 26:38Speaker 2: you're not going to feel great and acknowledge that and
- 26:41Speaker 2: accept that and then understand, okay, how can I move
- 26:44Speaker 2: forward in that? You know there's things that you may
- 26:48Speaker 2: be in the waiting season and that's okay, be present
- 26:50Speaker 2: in that waiting season. What does that mean for you?
- 26:52Speaker 2: What are the what life lessons do you need to
- 26:54Speaker 2: learn in this waiting season. I've been through multiple waiting
- 26:58Speaker 2: seasons in my life and that now I'm in another one,
- 27:01Speaker 2: and it's like, Okay, what is it that I need
- 27:04Speaker 2: to learn here? Because I had so many other things
- 27:06Speaker 2: that I've learned in the waiting before. I know there's
- 27:09Speaker 2: something that I need to take out of it. And
- 27:12Speaker 2: so stepping into that and accepting that. Every day.
- 27:16Speaker 3: You're so good at inspiring others and offering advice to others.
- 27:19Speaker 3: When you think about maybe some of the best advice
- 27:22Speaker 3: that you have been offered in the past year, does
- 27:25Speaker 3: anything specific come to mind?
- 27:28Speaker 2: I actually I talked with my sister Jess about this.
- 27:30Speaker 2: It was like about more.
- 27:32Speaker 1: About being alone and like finding out who Kresen is.
- 27:35Speaker 2: There's so many times in my life and you know,
- 27:38Speaker 2: I was married for well together with him for twelve years,
- 27:41Speaker 2: and now this is amazing opportunity.
- 27:43Speaker 1: For myself to find out who Kirston really is.
- 27:47Speaker 2: You know, I think, you know, I got married young,
- 27:50Speaker 2: and I was trying to figure out who my identity was.
- 27:54Speaker 2: And you know, you marry someone and then your identity
- 27:56Speaker 2: starts to kind of transform into whoever that person is,
- 27:59Speaker 2: and and now that person is completely different than this
- 28:03Speaker 2: person who is here you know, that cures and is
- 28:07Speaker 2: completely different than the Kirsten that is in this space now.
- 28:10Speaker 2: And so it's discovering who Kreson is, what she likes,
- 28:13Speaker 2: what she doesn't like, what she will won't accept in life,
- 28:17Speaker 2: what makes her happy, what makes her tick, what annoys her,
- 28:22Speaker 2: and accepting that, you know, and learning about that. I
- 28:26Speaker 2: think it's a fun journey as well. So I'm really
- 28:30Speaker 2: kind of standing in that and learning more about myself
- 28:34Speaker 2: in this season.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, it brings to mind that thing
- 28:38Speaker 3: that I feel like we see all the time on
- 28:40Speaker 3: social media. It's like, don't be worried about if they
- 28:43Speaker 3: like you, like, ask yourself if you actually like them, Like,
- 28:47Speaker 3: what is it that you want?
- 28:49Speaker 4: And be cognizant of that.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Yes, so much, so much.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Yes, all right, these days when you look in the mirror,
- 28:57Speaker 3: what is it that you see looking back at you?
- 29:00Speaker 2: So I often say a bunch of affirmations to myself
- 29:03Speaker 2: in the mirror, but the one that has been sticking
- 29:05Speaker 2: with me all year I am enough. I am enough.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I think when things don't go my way, or when
- 29:16Speaker 2: I start feeling a challenge at something at work, or
- 29:20Speaker 2: I even compare myself to other mothers, other moms at school.
- 29:25Speaker 2: What I'm doing is enough.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm doing the best that I can and that is.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Okay, and really standing in that, you know, I think
- 29:34Speaker 2: we get so caught in comparison sometimes, but comparison to
- 29:36Speaker 2: speak of joy, and so if I'm chasing after happiness
- 29:40Speaker 2: and joy, I need to accept who I am in
- 29:42Speaker 2: the reflection of the mirror, in all facets, physically, mentally, spiritually,
- 29:49Speaker 2: and being proud of the first time I see in
- 29:51Speaker 2: the reflection, versus standing in the mirror and tearing that
- 29:54Speaker 2: person down. So easy to do that, right.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Would you say that often individuals reach out to you
- 30:01Speaker 3: asking how they can get better at being accepting of
- 30:04Speaker 3: the person that they see in the mirror.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I get asked that a lot, actually, and I think,
- 30:11Speaker 2: I think that's a really personal journey. But I would
- 30:16Speaker 2: say that there's nobody else in the entire world that
- 30:21Speaker 2: is you. There's nobody You are one, unique and different
- 30:27Speaker 2: than anybody else in the entire world. That is a
- 30:31Speaker 2: beautiful thing. No one says that you have to fit
- 30:34Speaker 2: in anybody else's box. You are meant to be who
- 30:37Speaker 2: you are, and so embrace that. That doesn't mean that
- 30:40Speaker 2: you can't have goals and set things that you want
- 30:44Speaker 2: to accomplish or things that you want to change for yourself.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Absolutely have that. That's where growth happens. But accepting where
- 30:53Speaker 2: you are is a beautiful thing, and owning that and
- 30:57Speaker 2: being proud of that person, knowing that that person has
- 31:01Speaker 2: been through some things. You got some scars, you got
- 31:03Speaker 2: some bruises, But that's beautiful too.
- 31:06Speaker 4: You know, yes, I know, I know.
- 31:08Speaker 3: All right, we are moving now into our year in review,
- 31:13Speaker 3: fast flash round.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Are you ready?
- 31:16Speaker 2: Ye? I think so okay?
- 31:18Speaker 4: All right? Woman favorite movie of the year, ooh the
- 31:22Speaker 4: Woman King? Ooh good?
- 31:24Speaker 2: Pick fantastic movie. My goodness, I still have chills from
- 31:30Speaker 2: watching that movie. It was so empowering.
- 31:32Speaker 4: If you had to pick a genre that you lean
- 31:34Speaker 4: into most often, what is it.
- 31:37Speaker 2: I love a good rom com, I really do. But
- 31:40Speaker 2: then sometimes the action movie will get me. But I
- 31:43Speaker 2: love a good, feel good rom com with some popcorn
- 31:46Speaker 2: and wine.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Like that's favorite song of the year, Maybe that you
- 31:49Speaker 3: played in class?
- 31:52Speaker 2: Ooh, I have two. I think it's given. It's given
- 31:56Speaker 2: boss bitch. Yeah, it's given by Lotto, because like I
- 32:00Speaker 2: feel like I play that like anytime I walk into
- 32:03Speaker 2: a room, I'm.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Like, it's get it, bos bitch, all right, best meal
- 32:08Speaker 3: of the year, you know what?
- 32:11Speaker 2: I think the best meal of the year. I hosted
- 32:14Speaker 2: a pool party over the summer and I have a
- 32:17Speaker 2: friend Erica. She's phenomenal cook, and she threw down at
- 32:23Speaker 2: this barbecue. I'm talking every single thing that people ate.
- 32:29Speaker 2: It was like everybody's like Erica, Erica, oh my gosh,
- 32:33Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. And it was just like the food
- 32:36Speaker 2: was incredible, but the people were amazing, and who doesn't
- 32:41Speaker 2: have a good barbecue, right, But the food was wow wow.
- 32:45Speaker 2: I think I was pulled for like three days.
- 32:48Speaker 4: We love it, We love it all right.
- 32:50Speaker 3: One last reflection question here, what would you say was
- 32:54Speaker 3: your best trip of the year?
- 33:00Speaker 2: What was my best? Honestly, one of my favorite trips.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Jess and I went to the Bahamas, and I think
- 33:06Speaker 2: that's where that's where our friendship really like grew. It
- 33:11Speaker 2: was just me and her girl's trip to the Bahamas,
- 33:14Speaker 2: and we had so much fun just being with her, laughing,
- 33:21Speaker 2: doing silly things. The funniest things happened to us when
- 33:26Speaker 2: we were there. And so I look back on that
- 33:28Speaker 2: trip and I'm like, man, we got to do that
- 33:29Speaker 2: again because it was it was just so fun. Like,
- 33:33Speaker 2: never underestimate the power of a good girls trip.
- 33:36Speaker 4: A good girls trip, a girl girls trip.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Okay, when we think about twenty twenty three, give us
- 33:43Speaker 3: a goal that's on your radar for the next three
- 33:45Speaker 3: sixty five.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Well, I did set a very scary, uncomfortable goal. And
- 33:50Speaker 2: I think you are also very inspiring to me. Is
- 33:56Speaker 2: I I don't know? You know, I was never a runner.
- 34:00Speaker 2: It was always something that I was like, oh no, no,
- 34:02Speaker 2: thank you hard past. You know, I had asthma growing up,
- 34:05Speaker 2: and it was always like the excuse to get out
- 34:08Speaker 2: of running. Every time high school that one mile that
- 34:11Speaker 2: you had to run and be like oop, I have asthma. Nope.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Or even when I was playing basketball and they'd be like,
- 34:15Speaker 2: all right, we have to do suicides. I was like, oop, Nope, asthma.
- 34:17Speaker 2: So now that I teach running, I've started to love it.
- 34:21Speaker 2: But running outside has never been a thing for me.
- 34:24Speaker 2: So I am putting it out there that I'm going
- 34:27Speaker 2: to run something something in twenty twenty three.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Something, no, like you know, just something, just something. Why
- 34:39Speaker 3: would you say that running outside isn't your stick.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I would always give up. I would.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I would go out and I'd be like, all right.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Here we go because I loved it, Like.
- 34:48Speaker 1: It's it's a you know, the weather's nice, it feels great.
- 34:51Speaker 2: And then I would just new Jersey's also very hilly.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I would hit a hill and I'd be like, you
- 34:57Speaker 2: know what, Nope, I'm going to walk it and get
- 34:59Speaker 2: you know.
- 35:00Speaker 1: So now it's stepping into it's a challenge for me.
- 35:04Speaker 2: It's it's you know, just like when I talk about
- 35:06Speaker 2: in class, everybody else doesn't know what's coming up, but
- 35:09Speaker 2: I do. But when I go outside, I have no
- 35:10Speaker 2: idea what's coming up, you know, And so I'm like
- 35:14Speaker 2: walk in when I talk, you know, and running what
- 35:16Speaker 2: I talk. So it's it's an exciting journey. You know.
- 35:22Speaker 2: It's scary for me, but I'm excited about it. I
- 35:25Speaker 2: like to challenge myself in different ways. And I'm so
- 35:28Speaker 2: inspired by our community, you know, like being at the
- 35:32Speaker 2: New York City Marathon there's literally nothing like it, or
- 35:35Speaker 2: even watching Jess you know, crush the Boston Marathon, like
- 35:38Speaker 2: talk about being inspired. So you know, I set a
- 35:44Speaker 2: really scary, uncomfortable goal and I talk about it all
- 35:47Speaker 2: the time and now I'm doing it too, So I.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Know I love that. I love that.
- 35:51Speaker 3: I think when I saw you guys after the marathon,
- 35:53Speaker 3: you like you still had tears in your eyes, like
- 35:55Speaker 3: two hours later, balling.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I was bawling. I was like, why am I crying
- 35:59Speaker 2: so much?
- 36:00Speaker 4: It was so special? How could you not? And it's
- 36:03Speaker 4: just like, yeah, there's nothing like it.
- 36:05Speaker 3: So I'm excited to see what scary, uncomfortable, Harry audacious
- 36:10Speaker 3: goal you accomplished in the new year. Maybe starting outside
- 36:15Speaker 3: on a track, like you know it's flat, maybe we
- 36:18Speaker 3: start there.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I like that. I love that, you know. I
- 36:22Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to start off with a five
- 36:23Speaker 2: k power walk and then take it out. You know.

- 36:29Speaker 4: All right.
- 36:30Speaker 3: The last question we have for you today, what would
- 36:34Speaker 3: you say is a piece of advice that you would
- 36:37Speaker 3: offer yourself at the beginning of last year, the beginning
- 36:41Speaker 3: of twenty twenty two, knowing what you.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Know now, I laugh because I know my answer, Like
- 36:49Speaker 2: as soon as you said it, I would say, buckle up,
- 36:51Speaker 2: butter Cup.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Buckle up, buttercup, face until you make it, lean in,
- 37:01Speaker 5: put your big girl panties on.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Like it's gonna be it's gonna be a ride this year,
- 37:07Speaker 2: but there's gonna be beautiful transformations. And I see it
- 37:12Speaker 2: now now that I'm you know, on the other side
- 37:16Speaker 2: of the year. But there's a lot of things that
- 37:20Speaker 2: happened in twenty twenty two that I wasn't expecting and
- 37:27Speaker 2: but it has been a beautiful journey. I will say
- 37:30Speaker 2: that of rediscovering the Kirsenz and yeah, that would probably
- 37:36Speaker 2: be the biggest advice, Like this one's gonna be this
- 37:39Speaker 2: one's gonna be a challenge, girl, get your way to
- 37:42Speaker 2: get your get get you know, get some strength training in.
- 37:45Speaker 2: There's gonna be some things that you're gonna have to
- 37:48Speaker 2: carry on your back and smile through it all. But
- 37:52Speaker 2: you're built for it, you know.
- 37:53Speaker 4: So you're built for it.
