- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:17presented by C Kick. This is episode 439.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Cord, and I'm here with my Co host
- 0:24Nate Reyes. Nate, that is me.
- 0:34I am he. How are we?
- 0:38Boom. Welcome back to the party
- 0:41everybody. I know you got something spicy
- 0:43cooked up, So what do you got? Oh no, I I'm not springing the
- 0:50surprise on you until later. In fact, I may not even give you
- 0:53a heads up that I'm going to spring it.
- 0:55On you it will not be sprung right away.
- 0:57What I do have to say, though, is I think I'm officially over
- 1:02the Billy Bean look already. Huh.
- 1:06It took, what, four episodes? That's it.
- 1:09I'm done. I want to go back to wearing, I
- 1:12guess I feel, is this what it feels like to be a kid that goes
- 1:15to private school and you have to wear like a uniform You don't
- 1:17get to you don't get to wear what you want.
- 1:19Like, this is terrible. I that I'm being subjected to
- 1:23this. It is tough.
- 1:26I've always wondered what that was like wearing that every day.
- 1:30You're, you're living it. You're, you're seeing it.
- 1:32You're witnessing it right now. This is what it's like.
- 1:35I have to wear this for another 10 episodes.
- 1:41Yeah, but what's crazy is about like, kids in the uniforms, like
- 1:44they would have to like, go to recess and then go back.
- 1:47Yeah, I'm not trying to play kickball and like.
- 1:49Kill the same thing, yeah. Not about that.
- 1:53Kill. Right, that's what they was, not
- 1:57what they would wear. Or am I just making that out?
- 2:00Didn't they some private schools had to wear kilts.
- 2:02Can somebody confirm that? I hope someone in the chat went
- 2:06to a private school and can tell us.
- 2:08I, I don't think that's accurate, but I, I would love
- 2:11for that to be the case. Somebody has some private school
- 2:14out there had to wear kilt, I'm convinced.
- 2:18Are we Speaking of being convinced, Nate?
- 2:20Let's, let's just get right into it.
- 2:22Are we are, are we convinced that this Shohei thing is wipe
- 2:28our hands clean? On, off, off we go on to bigger
- 2:32and better things. This is the least surprising
- 2:35thing ever to happen this year. I mean, talk about the most
- 2:41convenient time in Shohei Ohtani cleared the same day Tucapita
- 2:47Marcano gets hit with a lifetime ban officially.
- 2:51Last episode we talked about it. That was the rumor.
- 2:54That was the expectation. It was not official.
- 2:58But now we are on the other side of Major League Baseball handing
- 3:01down the lifetime ban. But like I said, talk about the
- 3:06most convenient timing. Hey, this guy's getting hit with
- 3:12a lifetime ban. By the way, Shohei Tan is
- 3:14cleared. We're good.
- 3:15Nothing to see here. Move.
- 3:16Along right, I know it's so insane.
- 3:19It's just it smacks in the face sometimes, doesn't it?
- 3:24It really does. It's like the national news when
- 3:27like something happens, you know what I mean?
- 3:29I remember a couple years ago or last year was like that train
- 3:32that like like fell off the rails and like spilled chemicals
- 3:35into the into the water or whatever and you're like, what
- 3:40else is going on? There's definitely something
- 3:43else that's occurring off to the side.
- 3:47Same thing, man. It's just a little cover up.
- 3:49It's the timing of I think our PR department across all massive
- 3:58news outlets and and sports have this down to AT.
- 4:06It's my hope that this is our last time really talking about
- 4:09this, regardless what side of the the conspiracy that exists
- 4:13out there, regardless what side of it you're on.
- 4:15I'm hoping that this is the last time we talk about it.
- 4:20I'm sure as investigative practices are undertaken that
- 4:28I'm sure more information, more details are going to come out
- 4:31about this as time, as time passes, as these indie film
- 4:36makers are trying to make a name for themselves and they want to,
- 4:38they want to undertake the the privilege of running a Shohei
- 4:42doc. They're going to want to get to
- 4:44the bottom of this. They're going to want to run
- 4:46some numbers. They're going to want to, you
- 4:49know, have some interviews. Details are going to come out by
- 4:53then, I'm sure. Major League Baseball is hoping
- 4:55that Shohei is well into his retirement so they don't have to
- 5:00worry about protecting their golden child anymore.
- 5:07I don't know man. I just it, it just seems too
- 5:13easy. It just seems too easy.
- 5:20Epe pleaded guilty to bank. And I'm reading directly.
- 5:24I'm reading directly from the article.
- 5:26So don't, don't, don't shoot the messenger.
- 5:28Epe pleaded guilty to bank and tax fraud charges, two counts
- 5:36that carry a maximum sentence of 33 years.
- 5:41His sentencing is set for October 25th at 2:00 PM Pacific.
- 5:47Does he go to jail here or prison here?
- 5:50I should say they ship them back.
- 5:53What do you think Japanese prisons are like?
- 5:56Probably not very good actually. Could be better.
- 6:01I bet you they're better. I feel like they're better.
- 6:05Let me, let me do a quick. Let me do a quick.
- 6:07OK, just look. Up Japanese prisons, see what
- 6:09you see. I think I saw something on
- 6:12Twitter the other day randomly of like Swedish prison.
- 6:15Prison. Oh yeah, dude, it look.
- 6:17Nicer than like most apartments in New.
- 6:19York, it's like a Country Club. Yeah.
- 6:22It's like you almost want to commit a crime if you live in
- 6:25Sweden. Yeah, let's see, according to
- 6:32this first first result I find on Google, you know how that can
- 6:36go sometimes. I this could be wrong, but I'm
- 6:38going to read it anyway. The US upholds more humane
- 6:41conditions in Japanese prisons, but Japanese prisoners are safer
- 6:44than American prisoners. No Shanks, no shifts happening
- 6:50in Japan. So.
- 6:51I guess not. I would venture to say it has
- 6:54to. It has to be here, right?
- 6:57I mean. I feel like wherever you do the
- 6:59crime, yeah. That's where you do the time.
- 7:02Yeah, that adds up. Hope he goes somewhere nice.
- 7:10You know, when you fall on your sword, I feel like, feel like
- 7:15you gotta, you know, get in, get in a good position.
- 7:18Michael in the chat says what are Japanese prisons like?
- 7:20Probably have the worst punishment imaginable.
- 7:22Make you watch Japanese cartoons.
- 7:25Hey, look man, that's a big thing with people these days,
- 7:28so. That's true, a lot of people are
- 7:29in the anime. I'm not into it.
- 7:31I know a lot of people are, so I don't know, I don't know where
- 7:35Epe stands on that, but he, he might, if for some reason ends
- 7:39up in Japan, he might be destined for a, for three plus
- 7:43decades worth of anime. I, I think even if you like
- 7:47anime, that that would get real old real quick.
- 7:53So, So what do we think in terms of Shohei's track forward?
- 8:01He released a statement. He says now, well, it was
- 8:06labeled. It was decided that Shohei was,
- 8:09quote, a victim of fraud. Yeah.
- 8:15And then in response, Shohei comes out with a statement, says
- 8:20now that the investigation has been completed, this full
- 8:23admission of guilt has brought important closure to me and my
- 8:26family. I want to sincerely thank the
- 8:29authorities for finishing their thorough and effective
- 8:31investigation so quickly and and uncovering all of the evidence.
- 8:35I don't know, man, it sound, it just sounds weird.
- 8:39We were saying this when it happened, when all this news
- 8:43broke, and as, as more details became made available to the
- 8:47public, it just seemed like Shohei turned awfully quick on a
- 8:54guy that he's with every day more than his family.
- 9:04And look, I'm on record as saying that.
- 9:06I don't, I, I, I'll say it again.
- 9:11It's worth repeating. I'm of the belief that a man who
- 9:15has a montage on YouTube of him picking up trash at various
- 9:20ballparks could not be guilty of such a heinous crime.
- 9:24With that said, with that said, the way in which the, you know,
- 9:32slide my best friend to the side like he's trash, that that whole
- 9:40that whole deal raises some, raises some questions, raises
- 9:44some eyebrows. I just remember the press
- 9:47conference that he did and afterwards everyone, for some
- 9:51reason, everyone was like, you can really see the emotion.
- 9:54And I'm like where the guy has has hasn't shown any emotion
- 10:00towards any of it. So I don't know, man.
- 10:04It's I, I, I think he knew more than what he lets on.
- 10:09I think he has good lawyers. I think they got to IPA just in
- 10:14time for him to change his story.
- 10:18And I don't know, man, I think I think it was also fraud against
- 10:25that ESPN reporter that was getting the the nitty gritty.
- 10:28She was getting all the all the deets.
- 10:30She was getting the tea that was needed.
- 10:33And if it comes out 24 hours later, he's like, no, no, no,
- 10:36no. That's crazy stuff that I was
- 10:38saying. Here's the real truth, tough.
- 10:42That could have been a career making story that you just
- 10:46robbed this lady of. Could have flipped her whole
- 10:49script. To be fair, I think I think she
- 10:53she still gained from her work. I don't know, I don't know her
- 10:58name it. It brought a lot of things to
- 10:59light. Maybe.
- 11:01Well, I mean, I, I know like 3 writers names, so that's not
- 11:04saying much for me 'cause that's not an insult to her.
- 11:07I, I just don't keep track of writers names all that often.
- 11:09But it, it at least got this conversation going.
- 11:13I mean, I'm sure that things could happen behind the scenes.
- 11:16Yeah, I'm sure things are happening behind the scenes
- 11:19while this was going on and even before that that article was
- 11:21written. But at least got the
- 11:23conversation amongst the public, amongst the baseball folks out
- 11:28there, at least got that going, got the people going.
- 11:33Paul, so hard. They want to find me.
- 11:40Yeah. But this I, I think the, the,
- 11:46it's funnier the right word. I don't know if funnier is the
- 11:49right word. It's it's kind of sad.
- 11:51It's kind of sad. But the funnier take away from
- 11:56this whole betting scandal. I mean, you want to we can
- 12:00combine the show, hey, and the, the Tucapita Marcano scandal
- 12:05just combined, just lump it all into one.
- 12:07I think the funniest thing to come out of all of this news
- 12:09yesterday was the the number breakdowns of these guys in this
- 12:18in this scandal, in this side of the scandal with the two capita
- 12:21and the and the minor leaguers and all that.
- 12:23Did you see some of the numbers that were thrown around?
- 12:26What they were betting. Financially, yeah.
- 12:29So two capita was I, I would venture to say the the strongest
- 12:37of them all financially in terms of wagers and and and whatnot.
- 12:43The total amount he bet on baseball 150 grand.
- 12:47The total amount he bet on Major League Baseball was 8787
- 12:53thousand 319. His average amount per bet was
- 12:57378 numbers of Major League bets 231 bets on pirate games 25 and
- 13:07the percentage of bets he won 4.3%.
- 13:09Now I'm not a betting man, I've I've I've mentioned that before,
- 13:12but tell me, how does 4.3% stack up?
- 13:19434 point 3% of what and how do you spell his name?
- 13:24Tucapita. TUCUPITA.
- 13:29There we go 4. .3% bets 1. It's not great.
- 13:39It is not. Great, I could have made that a
- 13:44made that leap. It doesn't sound good.
- 13:46The heck? Dude played 75 games last year.
- 13:50With the pirates trying to make a name for himself.
- 13:55But the the bigger question though, is with these guy, these
- 13:58guys that aren't named Shohei Otani, do we think that they're
- 14:03just degenerates like on the side or do we think that they
- 14:08look at their careers and go, I'm not making, I'm not going to
- 14:12be making the kind of the kind of cash I'm hoping to in this
- 14:16career. Let's revert to something else
- 14:19that I'm I'm presumably a little better at.
- 14:22Turns out they're not. They're not good at this betting
- 14:25stuff. Similar to similar to Epe's
- 14:29admission via text to his bookie. 149 games.
- 14:34My man had a 589 OPS so he probably saw the writing on the
- 14:38wall, but he only had 35 strikeouts in in 220 plate
- 14:48appearances last year so it's hard to say he was doing things
- 14:54on purpose. You know what I mean?
- 14:56You probably just sucked. Well, the the more laughable
- 15:01numbers that I was alluding to. Another name that got caught up
- 15:07in this scandal or in this report rather.
- 15:11Michael Kelly, who was a pitcher for in the Oakland system.
- 15:17Actually he was. He was another big leaguer.
- 15:18He was with the A's bet a total of $99.22.
- 15:25That's more like it. That's more minor league
- 15:28activity. You know how much he won?
- 15:29How? Much. $28.30 It cost him a year
- 15:35of his career, an entire year for $28.00 Him and his, him and
- 15:45his wife, him and his girlfriend.
- 15:46Exactly. That's exactly what I was going
- 15:48to say. Him and his wife, him and his
- 15:50girlfriend, whoever going out to Chipotle.
- 15:54Boom. See you in 2026 or whenever this
- 15:59suspension begins and ends. We'll see you in another year.
- 16:05Small side of chips and guac, not the large small.
- 16:10Unbelievable. And look, this whether you're
- 16:14talking show, hey, whether you're talking to Kapita,
- 16:17whether you're talking Michael Kelly, The issue here is that
- 16:26this goes beyond guys just being idiots because the the
- 16:32legislation is out like the rules put in place to safeguard
- 16:38the league and its players from scandals such as this are well
- 16:42documented through the these players are made made aware of
- 16:46what they can and can't do when it comes to the gambling,
- 16:51betting, sports betting industry.
- 16:54The fact that they go and do it anyway tells you that they're
- 16:57idiots. And I was thinking about it all
- 17:00on the way home today and I was like, I feel like you could make
- 17:03the argument that there's a little bit more leeway with PE
- 17:06DS, little bit more Gray area with that.
- 17:09Because if a guy truly doesn't, which I, I, I don't really
- 17:13believe that guys like that you're, you're clueless enough
- 17:18or you're naive enough to take something before checking unless
- 17:22it's just a, a very clear, clearly acceptable thing that
- 17:26you're taking. Yeah, anything that you're
- 17:29unsure about? I have a hard time believing
- 17:31that those guys are not smart enough to get that checked ahead
- 17:35of time. However, this stuff is as black
- 17:41and white as black and white can be.
- 17:44I've got a a Co worker who pitched in AA, got up to AA
- 17:54between the Royals and the and the D backs, he said.
- 17:59It's happening a lot more than you think and there's plenty of
- 18:05guys and there's a few who are big leaguers now who were doing
- 18:10it in a ball often. I'm not going to.
- 18:15I'm not going to. No, of course not.
- 18:18Then and I-1. 100% mentioned current big leaguers.
- 18:22I and I get it and I'm not naive to think that it's not going on
- 18:25The that's, that's just you can, you don't have to stretch very
- 18:30far to make a leap like that. I, I would imagine that's the
- 18:34case, but it, it's, it goes beyond that for me, which was my
- 18:39original point. It's it's less about these guys
- 18:43just being a little more on the stupid side and it goes.
- 18:47It's more about them bringing into question the integrity of
- 18:53the sport that's in an industry that's already subject to
- 18:58conspiracy, speculation about things being rigged, things
- 19:02being, you know, illegitimate, whatever you want to call it.
- 19:06Sure. And they're doing not that they
- 19:09care 'cause like if if you're just going to blatantly break
- 19:11the rules, I would venture to say you really don't care about
- 19:14something like the integrity of the sport that you're playing.
- 19:16That would be my guess. But it's if it's happening
- 19:21enough if if these scandals are going to start popping up more
- 19:24and more as sports betting. We've talked about it on here
- 19:26with this in in parallel with this show.
- 19:29Hey, scandal. Sports betting is becoming
- 19:32increasingly more common and it's being it's being
- 19:36consistently or or more so promoted by the leagues
- 19:41themselves advertising sports books on site like of these with
- 19:47of these parks. With players being like the main
- 19:50promoting start in the advertising, yeah.
- 19:55So it's like if if these if this type of scandal is going to
- 19:59become more commonplace, then by default the integrity of the
- 20:05game. Is going to become is is going
- 20:08to be placed more into question than it's ever been in this
- 20:13realm of scandals. So I mean, it is what it is like
- 20:21his fans, we're going to keep watching.
- 20:23But you know, there I, I would venture to say for a majority of
- 20:25people, as time passes, as more as these scandals happen,
- 20:28there's probably going to become, there's going to be a
- 20:31creeping sense of is what we're seeing legit or is there
- 20:38something going on behind the scenes that's leading this game,
- 20:41this series, this season to go a direction that maybe it wouldn't
- 20:45have gone otherwise? I don't know, That's just my
- 20:48guess. Time will tell, Time will tell.
- 20:58It's a Am I crazy for thinking that this is going to be like
- 21:02the next generations steroids era like the is, is the sports
- 21:09gambling going to take over to where it becomes so intrusive,
- 21:11so invasive that it you can't not talk about it.
- 21:15You can't not look at the game today without looking at it
- 21:20through the lens of the impact of gambling.
- 21:26As as like the way we're digesting player performance, is
- 21:30that what? You mean?
- 21:31Yeah. And as the way as through the
- 21:36lens in which we view results, ways in which we we view
- 21:42motivations, whatever it is what fill in the blank.
- 21:46But you can't, you can't look at the 90s and I mean even early
- 21:502000s I guess without looking at looking at things through the
- 21:55lens of PE DS. Yeah.
- 21:57With this, as again, as sports betting gambling becomes more
- 22:01more pervasive, maybe we start to wonder like how much of this
- 22:07is being driven by the effects of that?
- 22:10Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
- 22:14The same sport stuff is crazy to me.
- 22:18Same team stuff is crazy to me. Yeah, just, I mean, you're
- 22:22they'd say it. You're idiotic if you're doing
- 22:26that. Like what?
- 22:27What kind of what was his name? Pikachu.
- 22:32Bulbasaur. Yeah, Charizard, Tuka, Pita and
- 22:36Pikachu. Yep.
- 22:37Pita chip. Yeah.
- 22:39He he didn't do so hot. Didn't do so hot.
- 22:42Yeah. Adios.
- 22:42We'll see ya. We'll see ya.
- 22:47Curious to see what he does next.
- 22:49Just kidding, we'll never find out.
- 22:51We'll never know. We'll never hear that name
- 22:52again. Chupacabra.
- 22:56Chupacabra Pikachu, we got some breaking news.
- 23:13I'm going to introduce a little bit of a new segment here.
- 23:21New brief segment. Little game for my dear friend
- 23:25Nate here. I told you, I told you I wasn't
- 23:28going to give you a heads up, but I'm going to give you a
- 23:30little bit of a heads up. Going to play a little little
- 23:33guess that player. Oh, I suck at this.
- 23:37All right, 20 questions. I suck at this.
- 23:41All right, 20 questions. That helps.
- 23:42OK. 20 questions. And look, I'm going to, I'm
- 23:46going to preface this by saying I, I, I thought of the player on
- 23:51my way home today, or it was like at some point during the
- 23:53day, it just, it was the first player that came to mind.
- 23:55There was no rhyme or reason as to why this play.
- 23:57It was just who's a player that might fit the bill for, for the
- 24:00first one. I said OK, this is the guy.
- 24:02OK. 20 questions. I've got a I've got a little
- 24:08sound bite here, a minute long, so you're going to have to
- 24:12hustle. In a minute, I think 20
- 24:14questions. In a you don't have to.
- 24:16You have up to 20 questions if you so choose to use them all.
- 24:21But once this audio cuts it, once this audio drops, this
- 24:26little baseball organ music, once it drops, that's a minute
- 24:31and your time is up. And I guess at that point, if
- 24:34you haven't used all 20, I'll give you a final guess just to
- 24:37take a stab in the dark. But you get 20, you get 20
- 24:40questions, you get a minute. And we'll see how the first few
- 24:44go, like if if a minute is just embarrassingly short.
- 24:48I feel like. It is I maybe can I maybe expand
- 24:51it, but I'm also not going to make it too easy on you.
- 24:53So we're going to, we're going to test the waters here, but I
- 24:57wanted to. Join in if you're in the chat.
- 24:59Yeah, if if you're, if you're in the chat or if you're listening
- 25:02or watching or whatever, go ahead and go ahead and play
- 25:05along. This, this will be a fun little
- 25:07fun little activity here for us. I'm going to, I'm going to, like
- 25:10I said, I, I think I'm going to maybe make this a, a thing
- 25:12moving forward just a little. Drop it in.
- 25:14Hit you up, mate. Once we get enough of a rhythm
- 25:17with this segment, I'm just going to hit you with it.
- 25:18I'm going to, I'm going to hit the music and we're going to go
- 25:20right into it. I only hit the sirens.
- 25:23Yeah, well, no, that's just, that was just the breaking news
- 25:26of the the segment being introduced that I, I came up
- 25:29with today. But I did want to preface it by
- 25:32saying that you're going off of my knowledge of this player, as
- 25:40well as what I can easily access in a timely fashion on baseball
- 25:45reference. So if you're asking questions
- 25:46that are outside of that purview, I may not be able to
- 25:50help you. So think of me as like a
- 25:52lifeline in that sense. But just know that on who wants
- 25:56to be a millionaire, sometimes those life lines don't always
- 25:59work. Are we ready?
- 26:01Have I have I prefaced enough? Do we we we know what we got.
- 26:04OK, so again, I've, I've got baseball reference on this
- 26:09individual pulled up, but just know that I can help you out
- 26:16with my own knowledge or what I find on here in a timely,
- 26:19somewhat timely fashion, hopefully.
- 26:20So you get a minute and you get up to 20 questions.
- 26:25I'm going to try to keep track of both, OK.
- 26:30In fact, try to keep track of yourself if you can, how many
- 26:34questions you got? All right, you ready?
- 26:38Yeah. All right, here we go.
- 26:42Active or retired. Retired Hall of Fame.
- 26:48No position player or pitcher. Position player,
- 27:07infielder, or outfielder. Infielder, I didn't put the
- 27:17edited version of this file in, so you're getting more than a
- 27:20minute here, so you're lucky I realized it wasn't 60 seconds.
- 27:23Keep. Going retired, not a Hall of
- 27:26Famer infielder. What was the other question?
- 27:30I didn't remember, did he play for more than one team?
- 27:42Yes, it's. Not like that narrows it down
- 27:46very much. Did he start his career in the
- 27:5790s? Secondly, no, no he did not
- 28:03start his career in the 90s. He started his career in the
- 28:0580s. Yes.
- 28:11Retired, not a Hall of Famer. This is so tough.
- 28:16I don't. A minute is crazy.
- 28:20We can make some changes. We'll we'll make some changes.
- 28:23It's a it's a trial run. It's a trial run.
- 28:25Yeah. Also I can't tell how loud the
- 28:28music is so I made it. Was loud at first but it's not
- 28:30that bad, Gold Glove or no Gold Glove.
- 28:40Gold Glove. Batting title or no batting
- 28:43title? No batting title.
- 28:47Sorry, career in the 80s, not a Hall of Famer.
- 28:52I'm just going to start burning through questions.
- 28:54Then shortstop. Shortstop.
- 29:04Did he play for the Indians? He did.
- 29:07Did he play for the White Sox? He did.
- 29:20I think I got it. How many questions you had I I
- 29:24wasn't keeping track. I'm at 12.
- 29:26OK? Is it Omar Vasquill?
- 29:30It's Omar Vasquill. Let's go.
- 29:32Well done. Well done.
- 29:34Definitely not a minute, but that's OK.
- 29:36That's not a minute. Like I said, that was that was
- 29:38on me. I preface it.
- 29:40I I friggin talked up this whole segment didn't even have the
- 29:44right freaking audio clip queued up.
- 29:45It's fine. How long?
- 29:48Did we know how long that was? I don't even know.
- 29:51It was about halfway over. I think it was a minute or I
- 29:54think it was a 3 minute clip, so a minute and a half I think.
- 29:59That makes me feel a little better.
- 30:03Yeah, I'm looking at it right. There I I the right audio files
- 30:07right there. That was the one I was supposed
- 30:08to queue up. Queued up the wrong one.
- 30:10What a shame. Well done though.
- 30:12Well done. Thanks.
- 30:13I'm normally not. Good at those.
- 30:14I suck at the ones like you see on Twitter or like they show in
- 30:19between innings or like name that player and they show like
- 30:22career stats and the teams they played for.
- 30:24And when I'm terrible at it, I don't know why.
- 30:29The 20 questions help. Though.
- 30:33Yeah, those. Those Immaculate grid things,
- 30:39I'm terrible at that too. My brain goes.
- 30:41Into like brain paralysis. I'm like, hey, I don't even know
- 30:44what team logo that is. My brain just shuts down.
- 30:47Couldn't couldn't tell you. I don't know how people do that
- 30:50Shout out to the people that can actually do those successes.
- 30:52Well, now we got to. Run it back.
- 30:54I got to be able to run it back with you so I may have to may
- 30:58have to rotate. I don't know, I might, just
- 31:03might just put me on the spot. I just.
- 31:04Make. I mean, I've.
- 31:05Got I've got the the the audio queued up over here.
- 31:08I might that's fine. I'm just going to drop that one
- 31:10ever. That's totally fine.
- 31:12I'm. So pissed I.
- 31:13Didn't have the right file queued up.
- 31:15That would have made it so much more intense.
- 31:17It's fine. It's alright.
- 31:20Let's. The the Hey, the All Star voting
- 31:23opened today, Yeah. Cute and by the.
- 31:28Way that perfect game in New York is no longer.
- 31:32So I watched. Won't need to be talking about.
- 31:34That. But yeah, let's talk about
- 31:36instead. Let's talk about some, some All
- 31:39Star voting our way too early All Star ballots.
- 31:44Let's just run through this the way majorleaguebaseball.com has
- 31:49this set up. Let me pull up my ballot.
- 31:51Here. Let's start at first.
- 31:54Base. EW, I'm not a fan of what?
- 32:01I'm looking at already, let's see here.
- 32:05Yeah, the National League. National League's interesting,
- 32:09by the way. Did you see that before we get
- 32:12into this? Did you see that?
- 32:15That nugget from. Today about how there's entering
- 32:18today there's only four National League teams over 500.
- 32:21Yeah. What is that about?
- 32:22What are we doing? I saw somebody.
- 32:24Say, well, it's because the American League Central decided
- 32:27to take over baseball. Like, I don't know how that's
- 32:31relevant. It's not.
- 32:34Not sure how that's. Connected.
- 32:37Oh, and even worse, I posted that that nugget to Facebook.
- 32:41So I'm going off on a little bit of a rabbit trail here.
- 32:44I posted that to Facebook and somebody literally said.
- 32:50And I quote it's. Almost as if the teams would
- 32:52benefit from a 9th hitter in the lineup.
- 32:56My brother. The National League has had ADH
- 32:58for it's been a while three years been a.
- 33:02While not sure what sports you're watching.
- 33:04But it's not baseball. But yeah, this All Star ballot.
- 33:08Let's start at first base. You got your ballot pulled up.
- 33:11I do. I think.
- 33:15American League's pretty simple, no?
- 33:18Yeah, Mount Castle. Wrong.
- 33:20We're going. Josh Naylor Now are we going?
- 33:24Are we going Mount Castle? Yeah, you're.
- 33:27Right is Mount Castle. But is he, how many ABS does he
- 33:33have? Because I there for a minute I
- 33:35thought he was platooning. But has he, has he taken over
- 33:38that role? I don't know.
- 33:39I thought he was hurt a little. Bit but him and O'hearn have
- 33:42been going back and forth there, right?
- 33:44That's what I'm saying, I thought.
- 33:45He was platoon a little bit. How many?
- 33:47How many ABS? Let's see, Josh Naylor still got
- 33:5210. Jacks, dude.
- 33:54Yeah, Five OPS, 95% of. Them are against the Blue Jays,
- 33:59it seems. Yeah.
- 34:00Oh. Canada 210, yeah, maybe 210 ABS.
- 34:07No. Wow.
- 34:08He actually has more ABS than Josh Naylor.
- 34:10How about that? Yeah, I, I think I'm going
- 34:12Mountie. I mean, there's there's.
- 34:15A little bit of a gap between home runs and.
- 34:19And RB is but he's. Also hitting sixty points
- 34:21higher. Yeah, and he's got an OPS. 14
- 34:24points higher, So yeah, I'm taking Mountie National League.
- 34:31Meow, meow, I know my. I know my pick.
- 34:40It's gotta be Oh B Harp. Yeah, yeah, boy.
- 34:45Bryce Harper getting the nod? Yes, sure.
- 34:49Useful getting the nod. Second base for the American
- 34:53League. Woof woof.
- 35:00Not good. Oh my, not even Simeon.
- 35:03Man, do you know Simeon's rocking a 763 OPS?
- 35:07Yeah, I. Still might lean his direction
- 35:10though. I I mean.
- 35:13Prob yeah. What about this Massey kid?
- 35:16How many ABS has he had with the Royals?
- 35:21Let's see here also. Brandon Drury's still in the
- 35:24league. Yeah, they had to throw
- 35:27somebody. On there a. 102 ABS so.
- 35:31Half the ABS. That's the aforementioned first
- 35:34baseman we just looked at. I guess Simeon.
- 35:44Yeah, Simeon taken Simeon. National League.
- 35:50I was curious where they would. Put a rise?
- 35:52Yeah, we're going to revisit this.
- 35:54For for those listening, for those watching, we are a plan is
- 35:57to revisit this as we approach the conclusion of the All Star
- 36:03voting because as we mentioned, this is this is this is super
- 36:06early. Although it's not that early.
- 36:09We're only like a month or so out from the All Star game, so I
- 36:12mean, some of these names are going to have to step it up a
- 36:16notch if they want to overtake these picks, but.
- 36:19Give me Katel Marte, 833 OPS, 12 Jacks hitting 276.
- 36:33Nolan Gorman's been. Playing pretty well too, but
- 36:36hitting 230. Where are you going?
- 36:40I'm going Katel. I don't.
- 36:43Know man. Louis Sorais I.
- 36:47Feel like is gonna get it just because he's he's been in the
- 36:50news a lot more. I don't I gotta go with my
- 36:59conscience and my conscience is telling me Katel Marte, that's
- 37:02that's who I gotta go with. There you go.
- 37:05Third base for the American League.
- 37:09Sheesh, man, I know my pick. It's basically just.
- 37:14Two guys here. Basically just Jose.
- 37:18Ramirez endeavors. Devers is hitting. 16 points
- 37:23higher he has three fewer home runs.
- 37:27Has basically. A 2026.
- 37:31RBI is fewer. Yeah, I know the 50.
- 37:34Eight ribs. The J Ram is crazy.
- 37:37Yeah, that's like otherworldly. When you look at the rest of the
- 37:40league, my goodness, I mean, he's on.
- 37:42Pace for like 150 RBISI know people don't care about that
- 37:44anymore, but I kind of no that's say.
- 37:48What you will about batting average, RBI should never go
- 37:51anywhere because if you're like, if you're producing runs as a
- 37:56hitter that carries weight, that carries value, RBI should never
- 38:00go anywhere. I don't know.
- 38:01I don't know why I don't see the thing.
- 38:02It's it's. A it's a it's a young man's
- 38:06opinion, you know, it's the new generation that.
- 38:10Just want to victimize. Everything.
- 38:14I don't know. Man, I'm just like I discredit.
- 38:17Yeah, I got to go diverse. But why though the 956?
- 38:25OPS. Yeah, that's pretty.
- 38:28That's that's lethal. How about Royce Lewis?
- 38:32Rocking a 3083 OPS. Is mine not up to date?
- 38:39I don't think our numbers are up to date.
- 38:42I'm looking at a 2514 OPS for Royce Lewis.
- 38:46To be fair, he's played like two games.
- 38:48Yeah, he's hitting 750. How about that?
- 38:50Good for Royce Lewis, I see him hitting six. 100 How are we on
- 38:53the same website with different numbers?
- 38:56Couldn't tell you. I'm not going to dispute it
- 38:58though. Clean it up though.
- 38:59We're we're. Living our own truths.
- 39:01Here we're living in our own our own realities.
- 39:04Yeah, I'm going to Evers National League.
- 39:08Oh, surprising name here. Surprising.
- 39:12Name. I think so.
- 39:16And are you? Talking Ryan.
- 39:18Ryan McMahon. Yeah.
- 39:20Ryan McMahon, Future Yankee. Oh, OK.
- 39:24Not here to speculate that shortstop.
- 39:29I mean is is the easiest pick on the on the on the board.
- 39:33Yep, Yep. Yep, it's, I mean my good.
- 39:37OK, well, maybe not the easiest, but actually, no, it's
- 39:40definitely the easiest. It's easiest.
- 39:42Yeah, what are we talking about here?
- 39:44National League shortstop. For the record, that was Gunnar.
- 39:49Henderson nationally shortstop. Pretty easy it is.
- 40:01Are we looking at the same list of shortstops here?
- 40:03Yeah, the MOOC man. Guy was playing out of his mind.
- 40:08Yeah. Catcher shout out Mason win for
- 40:12an 805 OPS. That's pretty surprising, yeah,
- 40:15Mason win having. A a quality season having a
- 40:20quality season catcher oh. The ageless wonder.
- 40:26I I know. Dude, how about it?
- 40:29It just keeps going. Sally Perez, It's not just the
- 40:32pop he's. Hitting 315.
- 40:34Yeah, according to my my sheet. Mine too.
- 40:36Mine too. Weird.
- 40:38Can I? Can I throw?
- 40:39In an honorable mention, not Adly.
- 40:43Connor Wong. I'm not saying over.
- 40:47Adly, I'm just saying, I, I, I want Connor Wong.
- 40:49It's a good story as the resident Sox fan to get his
- 40:52shine. It's a good story, I will say.
- 40:54He's got quite the highlight reel this year defensively too.
- 40:58He's hitting. 3/22 I honestly don't even know if he's at the
- 41:01point of being being deemed qualified a qualified hitter yet
- 41:06but and I think his OPS has tapered off a little bit but his
- 41:09I think his OPS was in the 9 hundreds like a week ago.
- 41:14And he's hitting 3/22. So I just want to give some up
- 41:17kind of long, but yeah, I I might have to go.
- 41:19I think we got to go. Sally Perez here.
- 41:22Mr. Sally. National.
- 41:25League. This one feels pretty easy.
- 41:28Too. Unless I'm over.
- 41:31Overlooking some names here. Oh.
- 41:37Wilson Contreras. Will Smith.
- 41:39I mean, it's got to be, I mean, William.
- 41:42Contreras, what did I say? Wilson.
- 41:46Wilson doesn't look too bad either, but I don't know what
- 41:48are you talking about. It was 9. 49 OPS yeah, I don't
- 41:51think he's. Played a lot, I think he was
- 41:53missing some time. Why did I think?
- 41:56Why? Did I think younger bro was
- 41:58popping off way more than this? William Contreras hitting three.
- 42:0313/8 bombs, 864 OPS. Give me Will Smith nod to my
- 42:10fantasy team. 3 outfielders. Well, American League's pretty
- 42:17easy for the first two, at least.
- 42:23Judge. Soto.
- 42:28I mean, you probably could just go the.
- 42:30Third one, Kyle Tucker. Now I that's what I'm.
- 42:32Thinking yeah, goodness, 979 OPS, 19 jacks, I mean.
- 42:40No more than like what, a week or two ago, we're talking about
- 42:43this being like a three-way race for, well, I mean throw Gunner
- 42:46in there, but we're at three out of the four top MVP candidates
- 42:50the. 12 Jenny being on here. Yeah, that's.
- 42:56That's not a good look. It's criminal.
- 42:59All right. National League.
- 43:01Wait, let me go back. I gotta.
- 43:03Find Tucker again. There he is.
- 43:04OK, National League it's. Weird, man.
- 43:11You got got a bunch of positional shifts that you got
- 43:13to keep in mind for this year. You're not going to find Mookie
- 43:15in your outfield, so take that. Into account when you're.
- 43:18Running through your ballot, right?
- 43:23Oh man, the NL. Outfield is looking a little,
- 43:26it's pretty light. Huh.
- 43:31Cushion Yelich. 3O99-O. Five OPS.
- 43:38Yeah, dude, Yelich. Has to be one of the top three.
- 43:42Yeah, I. Agree.
- 43:44Revenge season Tati. Tatis is in my.
- 43:50Consideration Tatis is in there. He's in the mix.
- 43:58Yo jerks and Profar, can we? More so than Tatis.
- 44:01What are we talking about? I completely forgot to show him
- 44:04as I I agree I. Scrolled right by.
- 44:07That's a no brainer. I saw a tweet the other day
- 44:14where? It was like.
- 44:17Jerks and Profar. Asked to replace Juan Soto jerks
- 44:21and Profar essentially becomes Juan Soto.
- 44:24Guys played out of. His mind This year it's been
- 44:26nuts on a. One year deal.
- 44:28On a one year deal, who's that third?
- 44:32Who's that third outfielder, though?
- 44:36Goodness, dude. Oh, that's.
- 44:37What I was saying, who's this Ramos guy with the Giants see
- 44:40qualify he's in three O 4 or the 918 OPS.
- 44:47I'll see. He's got 90 A BS.
- 44:56No, I'm going to say. No, I'm not.
- 44:58Yeah, I'm not. Voting for that Sorry I.
- 45:02Don't know dude, is it? Is it?
- 45:04Tatis like, I hate to say, but like, is, is that just the
- 45:07default #3 I'm not really seeing much else that's Tay Oscar's.
- 45:12Got a 774 OPS with 12 jacks. Tatis, you got 10 jacks hitting
- 45:19so if. Anything.
- 45:20It's it's Tay Oscar over Tatis. This is this is Slim Pickens
- 45:32over here in the NL. Yeah, it's ugly.
- 45:34What's going on? I'm going the water to ask her
- 45:36by default, not because I want to.
- 45:39Yeah, I agree. DH.
- 45:46Bro is David. Frye going to get the nod over
- 45:48Jordan Alvarez My. Lord bro, do your thing.
- 45:53That's what I'm saying, man. Kevin Pilar's got a 967 OPS,
- 45:59just need a little more time. There just need a little more
- 46:01time. Brent Rooker is in the
- 46:03conversation. Pretty stacked.
- 46:07Stan's got 15 jacks. Yeah, yeah, I I don't care.
- 46:15I'm going. I think I'm going.
- 46:17David Frye. Jordan's on my fantasy team.
- 46:19I'm going David Frye. I don't even care.
- 46:20I'm going David Frye. I don't even know how well.
- 46:23Hold on, Look at ABS. Look at ABS.
- 46:25Look at ABS. Yeah, 'cause I mean, I can't
- 46:27say. Ramos isn't in, but David Frye
- 46:29is. He's got 111 ABS.
- 46:32What's our threshold here? Like do you have that at least
- 46:34100? What's?
- 46:35What's Brent? Rooker's ABS 'cause that's my
- 46:38vote. I'm actually taking Brent Rooker
- 46:40over your Dong. Brent Rooker's got a. 100 and
- 46:427912 Jacks hitting 279 at 9:27. OPS compared to an 842 to your
- 46:51Dong. Give me Brent Rooker walking it
- 46:54in beep. Even more so than.
- 46:58David Fry, Yeah. 'Cause I don't, it's just more.
- 47:02ABS you got like 60 more ABS, doesn't it?
- 47:04That's fair. Yeah, the Rookman might.
- 47:09Be might be the move and then National League.
- 47:12I don't even need to look. Pretty cut and dry.
- 47:14Here, Yeah, Although I tell you what, man, Marcel's.
- 47:19I think he's maybe. Cooled off a little bit.
- 47:21I'd have to, I'd have to double check on that, but he's giving
- 47:25Shohei a run for his money. The three O 9 is.
- 47:28Impressive to me for for Azuno, truly.
- 47:31Yeah, that's impressive. That's what jumps out.
- 47:35That's what jumps out to you right away for sure.
- 47:37That's. Legit, like good, good for him
- 47:40'cause it's like it's not just pop there, but Shohei is Shohei
- 47:45and. Kind of All Star game is he
- 47:48gonna have. Him in it.
- 47:50That's true. Cool.
- 47:54Yep, good stuff. There you have it.
- 47:56There you have it. Are you submitting you're going
- 48:00to sign in? I don't.
- 48:02Need to sign in that's. Already good they go.
- 48:05Dang, get that MacBook, Yeah. Buddy, here we go.
- 48:15I'm doing my civic duty as an American citizen, placing my All
- 48:19Star vote. Come back tomorrow to in the
- 48:24Constitution. All right, let's let's switch
- 48:27gears here. I'm glad we glad we got to run
- 48:29through that. I I would venture say there's
- 48:32probably only going to be a handful of names that maybe get
- 48:35switched up there. I feel like some of those races
- 48:37weren't even close. Some majority.
- 48:40Of those. Races weren't even close.
- 48:41I would say yeah, I concur. Voted.
- 48:48Let's talk about how bad these. White Sox have been goodness 12
- 48:53straight losses entering Wednesday.
- 48:56Where are we at tonight? I.
- 48:58Think we're recording right during the?
- 48:59Middle of the game. Oh, they're up five one against
- 49:01the the cubbies, but I guess tongue.
- 49:04Sir, we're here to end streaks that may not matter 'cause the.
- 49:06Cubs came back I believe last night to win the game so.
- 49:12I'm not not. That not that concerned.
- 49:19Can I share some numbers here? Yeah.
- 49:24Major League ranks. For the Chicago White Sox, which
- 49:27by the way, in case you're wondering, like, oh, Kyle, Nate,
- 49:32can I ask a question? What was the last day that the
- 49:35Chicago White Sox won a game? I have the answer for you.
- 49:37It was May 21st. That's a long time that's.
- 49:43Been a while. That's.
- 49:45It's been a minute Major League ranks for the Chicago White Sox
- 49:49entering Wednesday Run scored fewest in all of baseball runs
- 49:56allowed. Second most in baseball.
- 50:00Walks allowed Second most in baseball WHIP, Second worst in
- 50:06baseball Home runs. Hit fewest in baseball.
- 50:10Home runs allowed most in baseball Batting average worst
- 50:21in baseball on base percentage Worst in baseball Slugging
- 50:29percentage Worst in baseball OPS worst in baseball.
- 50:41Positive news for some White Sox fans, though.
- 50:44What? You have some.
- 50:46Attractive trade pieces that are all but out the door and Luis,
- 50:50Robert and Garrett crochet. What's that?
- 50:55Contract look like. Luis Robber is.
- 50:59Definitely intriguing, but the injuries are an issue.
- 51:02I'm going to look up this contract.
- 51:08Can I be honest with? You for SEC?
- 51:10Oh, very. Tradable.
- 51:13Yeah, extremely tradable. It's the it's the value that
- 51:16you're getting in return that's the most intriguing take away
- 51:19from from that name if he can stay healthy.
- 51:22From here to the deadline, that's a huge deal.
- 51:27Set to be. A free agent.
- 51:29Oh, there's back-to-back. I can't remember.
- 51:32When you trade somebody to the club, options go with.
- 51:38Like to all the terms. Of the contract oh today.
- 51:42I would venture to say, I mean that's baked into the contract.
- 51:47The club option. In 2026 for 20 mil.
- 51:54Same thing in 2027 unrestricted for Louise Robert.
- 51:59Unrestricted Robert. I'm taking that unrestricted
- 52:02free agent in 2028 at the age of 30.
- 52:08Can I? Can I be honest for a SEC?
- 52:12True. I don't.
- 52:15Oh, he's a Boris. Client too.
- 52:18I don't know what it. Is Boris client.
- 52:22We'll get into that. I don't know what it is about
- 52:26Garrett Crochet, but I. I don't know if that.
- 52:32That trade pieces is valuable in my opinion.
- 52:36Like I it's not as valuable to me.
- 52:39It's not as enticing. There's something about Gary
- 52:41Crochet that I just can't quite put my finger on.
- 52:45But similar to a Jordan. Montgomery and I may be I may be
- 52:49walking back a take, or I may be contradicting to take from the
- 52:53offseason, but Jordan Montgomery never really did I.
- 52:59Want him on the Red Sox? This offseason, yes.
- 53:02Sure did, but. I.
- 53:04I saw whether I said it or not, I know how I felt.
- 53:07So don't, don't say that I'm, I'm going revisionist history.
- 53:11I know what I I know what I felt and it, it may sound convenient
- 53:14now, but this is how I actually felt.
- 53:17I didn't feel like Jordan Montgomery that we saw last year
- 53:20was going to be the Jordan Montgomery that you were going
- 53:22to get for the whatever length of contract that he was going to
- 53:26receive. Yeah.
- 53:27Did he have a good year last year?
- 53:28Yes. Did you have a good postseason?
- 53:30Yes. That's what did it.
- 53:32That's the reason he biased of the of the postseason.
- 53:35But if you. Look at the rest of his career.
- 53:38He's just like, he's just middle of the road, just.
- 53:41Not. Sexy no, and I for some reason,
- 53:45and I think Gary Crochet is in a certainly a little bit of a
- 53:48different situation, much younger and he's put up a 309
- 53:52over his career. But I there's just I, I can't
- 53:54explain it. I don't it's more of a gut thing
- 53:55than anything. There's just something about
- 53:58that where I, I feel like what he's, what he's put up to this
- 54:02point, I just don't know if if it's sustainable and I don't
- 54:06know if it's a situation where he's putting up numbers right
- 54:08now that are going to cause A-Team to maybe overpay.
- 54:13And then lead. Themselves to maybe regret that
- 54:17decision down the road. Crochet.
- 54:20Yeah, he's still in control for three.
- 54:22More years purely, this is. His first year as a.
- 54:26Starter too. So like this is all new
- 54:28uncharted territories. It looks good so.
- 54:35Far. Third, most strike out some.
- 54:39Baseball, I think he's, it's a big blows.
- 54:43Whip. It's a big ask.
- 54:45And that's The thing is that like I, I think the, the White
- 54:48Sox hold all their cards. They're like in control,
- 54:52dominating. You can ask pretty much whatever
- 54:54you want, especially in a position where like you, rebuild
- 54:59isn't even sufficient, but you need whatever it takes to to get
- 55:05this thing flipped around. I just don't know if.
- 55:09Any team is going to be willing to offer that.
- 55:12We're talking. Like.
- 55:16Multiple top ten prospects. With the with the.
- 55:22Ceiling that he has and. And like the.
- 55:28The control aspect, he had to give up a lot to get him.
- 55:32I don't see anybody doing that since it is his first year as a
- 55:34starter. Well, that's the thing.
- 55:36It's. Like the these teams that are
- 55:38going to be interested in him as an addition are kind of in a
- 55:41tight spot because you haven't had a, a full season of, of, of
- 55:47this being extrapolated out to know like, OK, what is what is
- 55:50his body's response to this kind of workload?
- 55:53And is this something that we can build on and continue to add
- 55:58to in seasons that come? So like if, if you're going to
- 56:02need a guy in a pinch or or down the stretch, certainly seems
- 56:07like an attractive name to go after in that regard.
- 56:11But it's just what does this look like after this year?
- 56:14Like how is his body going to respond physically to this new
- 56:19format, if you will, as a as a pitcher, as a starter?
- 56:22So that'll be interesting. Boxing champ.
- 56:25Tommy Pham will be will be in a different uniform at some point
- 56:29I think too. Which, by the way, did he?
- 56:31Got sent to the IL with like a stubbed toe or something.
- 56:35Did you see that? Could have been.
- 56:37The path that he took sledding into Contreras the other day,
- 56:41No, it wasn't a. Stubbed toe it was.
- 56:43Something with his toe, though, wasn't.
- 56:47It I think that was the corresponding.
- 56:48Move to bringing Luis Robert back actually.
- 56:56What was Fame's? Injury.
- 56:58Oh, it was a ankle sprain. Yeah, They got to move, dude.
- 57:02Like I I hate to. Shake.
- 57:05They've been around a long time. And I understand, but like you
- 57:09hear Chicago, no one in their right mind thinks White Sox, no
- 57:13one. It's it's in like, I don't think
- 57:17it's in a very good part of town.
- 57:19Like it there's, there's multitude of reasons why they're
- 57:22not getting people into that park.
- 57:24Just leave the Cubs, run that city.
- 57:31Just go. They just get a fresh start.
- 57:34This is what is happening. What happened in Moncada?
- 57:38What that guy fell off so hard. Yeah, there's a lot of promise
- 57:45there. Lot of promise, I think, Eloy.
- 57:48'S freaking hamstrings are held together by duct tape and
- 57:51chicken wire 'cause that man is destined for IL like once a
- 57:57month. I was thinking about that.
- 58:01I think yesterday that I I. Still stand.
- 58:04By that, the white the Chicago White Sox did not.
- 58:08Get made fun of. Enough for that whole like, hey,
- 58:12Eloy died. That was absurd.
- 58:15I. That was that might have been
- 58:17when things started to go. That may have been it.
- 58:20You want to talk about unserious franchises, I think that's when
- 58:23they they took on that that moniker because that that was a
- 58:27joke. And I like I said, I don't think
- 58:30they I don't think they wore it enough for that.
- 58:33They've ruined. Benintendi that.
- 58:36Poor guy. I mean that poor guy.
- 58:40Rolls into town sporting a 23, thinking it's going to be a
- 58:44fresh start in a in a new pair of socks if you will pun
- 58:48intended and it it has not worked out he I'm pretty sure
- 58:54he's still on pace for like the worst war ever.
- 58:57It's a complete. Mess may or may not matter to.
- 59:00To some people, but take that as you will.
- 59:03But it's worth noting. I mean, it's a complete.
- 59:05Mess. You got to be pretty bad.
- 59:08To rack up that kind of year thus far, and not to mention
- 59:13they have one. Of the worst broadcasters ever.
- 59:15Oh, don't even get me. Started give me the A's
- 59:18broadcaster over this guy. Nope.
- 59:20No, absolutely not. Absolute I will.
- 59:26Take I will take this guy every day of the week, twice on
- 59:29Sundays. What's her name?
- 59:32Give her some time. No, it's not I promise you I say
- 59:37this from the bottom of my heart.
- 59:38This is not like a woman versus man thing.
- 59:42She is objectively not good and I'm sorry but like if you if you
- 59:48think that they're. Nate, we're going.
- 59:51To you know, I may have to compile some some calls for next
- 59:54episode in case you haven't heard so I.
- 59:57Know it's so true it's so she rough she.
- 1:00:01Used to do like the like the. I don't even know what they call
- 1:00:04it in baseball. It's like the sideline reporter,
- 1:00:07right? You know what I mean?
- 1:00:08She used to do that for the Rockies and and my stepdad Rob
- 1:00:12used to make fun of her because he loves Seinfeld and I.
- 1:00:16Don't know if you ever saw. The episode where Jerry goes on
- 1:00:18a date with the girl that has man hands and they go to like
- 1:00:22eat lobster and it just shows like the manly his hands just
- 1:00:26cracking open crag, crab legs and lobster tails.
- 1:00:30It's hilarious. But anyway, he he calls her man
- 1:00:32hands. She used to the hands.
- 1:00:35You should just like, absorb the microphone when she was doing
- 1:00:38her sideline stuff. Any who Jenny Kavanagh is the
- 1:00:42name. It's.
- 1:00:43Yeah, I'm sorry. Like I, I.
- 1:00:45Really tried. I really tried.
- 1:00:47I gave her the first call. Hey, no, you need to support her
- 1:00:50for the. Next 10 episodes, get out of
- 1:00:51here. Now I'm supporting the product
- 1:00:53on the field. It's unconditional.
- 1:00:56Nope, that's. Encompassing.
- 1:00:58It's encompassing of the entire franchise.
- 1:01:00It all falls under one umbrella. That was not part of the bet.
- 1:01:03That was yes, it is part of the bet.
- 1:01:04It absolutely was not part. Of the bet it was I had to wear
- 1:01:07this for every episode until the All Star break.
- 1:01:09That was the bet. There was no fine print.
- 1:01:11There was no fine print. Unwavering loyalty.
- 1:01:16Disagree. Disagree.
- 1:01:19Wholeheartedly disagree. Yeah, I tried to give her
- 1:01:24benefit of the doubt. Like, I thought maybe the first
- 1:01:26call that was that went viral, I was like, I, you know, just had
- 1:01:29a rough day. Like, I'd probably fall asleep
- 1:01:31halfway through the game if I had to call those games, but
- 1:01:34it's. It's they've.
- 1:01:36Added up and it's not good. It is not good.
- 1:01:39Anyway, I'm not going, I'm not going to spend time bragging on
- 1:01:41her. She's she's living her dream.
- 1:01:44And that's that's great. You know, you know who is living
- 1:01:50their living their dream and that's Scott Borris.
- 1:01:53But at what cost? Jordan Montgomery and.
- 1:01:56Blake Snell might be the two worst pitchers in baseball.
- 1:02:02And Blake Snell isn't. Even.
- 1:02:04Healthy, healthy. And available to defend his own
- 1:02:07honor. He's on the IL Whether that's
- 1:02:09whether it's legitimate or not, who knows.
- 1:02:12Could be could be phantom, who knows.
- 1:02:14But that that groin doesn't look like it's fun.
- 1:02:16So I'm going to I'm going to err on the side of yeah, probably is
- 1:02:19legitimate. But with the way this year's
- 1:02:20gone. I don't know man.
- 1:02:24That's. It would be understandable.
- 1:02:27If maybe you threw you, you, you made the you made the pitch,
- 1:02:31made the follow through and he go, Oh yeah, groin doesn't I'm
- 1:02:34feeling too good. I do that walking.
- 1:02:37Up the stairs, so I'm going to have to hit I'm.
- 1:02:39Going to have to hit the shelf again, yeah?
- 1:02:43But Jordan? Montgomery especially, I'd I
- 1:02:45wanted to mention him or look at him specifically because of his
- 1:02:50start today. I don't know if I don't know if
- 1:02:52you caught that. Dropped him from my fantasy.
- 1:02:55Squad, I picked him up just on a, you know, just maybe off
- 1:02:58chance he he decided to turn things around.
- 1:03:02Dropped him halfway through his. Start atrocious.
- 1:03:05I love the mid start. Drops they just seeing that
- 1:03:08update come across my phone is the best put up -17.
- 1:03:12Points. He went two innings, gave up
- 1:03:15seven hits, six earned runs, three walks in just one K and.
- 1:03:21Got hit with the. Fattest L gave up a gave up a
- 1:03:23Grand Slam to Wilmer Flores, I believe today, and that was
- 1:03:29following. I think he I think it was a
- 1:03:32there was another home run mixed in there as well.
- 1:03:35So on the year, I think he's him and Blake Snell.
- 1:03:41I I saw a tweet today that said that between the two.
- 1:03:46Let me pull it up, make sure I got the right one here.
- 1:03:50Combined. Have thrown 70 innings.
- 1:03:53Shout out David Lorilla on Twitter So Jordan, Montgomery
- 1:03:56and Blakes now have combined to throw 70 innings and allow 61
- 1:04:00runs so far this season. Oh my 70.
- 1:04:06Innings. And 61 runs so far this season.
- 1:04:11Wait, I don't think Jordan Montgomery.
- 1:04:14'S had a scoreless outing, yet I.
- 1:04:18Don't believe so. Let me check.
- 1:04:21He has not. He has not.
- 1:04:24Wow, his last 18 innings. According to dbac.
- 1:04:29Stats Info on Twitter His last 18 innings, 31 hits, Twenty
- 1:04:35runs, 20 earned runs, three home runs, nine walks, 12 KS, a 10
- 1:04:42ERA, and a 2.22 WIP. My.
- 1:04:46Lord the Bor I. Tweeted it out today.
- 1:04:50The Boris client holdout needs to be studied.
- 1:04:55I mean this is. It was the most predictable
- 1:04:58thing, but it still needs to be studied like this needs to be
- 1:05:00addressed. This needs to be talked about.
- 1:05:04I mean this is the. He left, didn't he?
- 1:05:07Oh yeah, he dropped he. Dropped worse like right away.
- 1:05:10One I think wants to see. I don't actually had he made his
- 1:05:13first start before, I don't think he did.
- 1:05:15I think he's like really close after the signing, yeah, I
- 1:05:18think. He dropped like a week and was
- 1:05:21like, I refuse to pitch under the name Scott Boris.
- 1:05:25No thanks. And for good reason, man.
- 1:05:27I think this is a prime example like both of these guys
- 1:05:30combined. It's it's just a prime example
- 1:05:36of the importance of spring training.
- 1:05:37And we can talk about whether it should be shortened or you know
- 1:05:41what, what time of the year that it starts, what time of the year
- 1:05:45it ends, how much time there is between spring training and
- 1:05:47their actual the actual season. But at the end of the day, this
- 1:05:52underlines the importance. Of spring training.
- 1:05:56Yeah. Especially for pitchers, Yeah,
- 1:06:00because even though. Blake and Jordan can be have
- 1:06:04have proven to be inconsistent at various times, maybe maybe
- 1:06:09snow a little bit more than Montgomery.
- 1:06:11I think Montgomery's, what you see is kind of what you get, but
- 1:06:13he still had those windows of, of inconsistency that led to him
- 1:06:17kind of bouncing around at times.
- 1:06:22I, I think even with that in mind, I still don't think that
- 1:06:26they have these starts. I think you can just about
- 1:06:31solely attribute what's happening with those two to
- 1:06:35missing spring training. It's not just that.
- 1:06:38Man, it's not just like the the preparation, it's about like
- 1:06:41being settled in with your family, you know what I mean?
- 1:06:43Like moving into a house, getting your family OK, like
- 1:06:47just getting some type of of stability before just being
- 1:06:52thrown into the deep end of the pool.
- 1:06:54It's not just like game reps It's not just live a BS.
- 1:06:58It's it's a multitude of things that like they're human being.
- 1:07:03But I did pull some hats. Are you stats?
- 1:07:05Are you wearing your stat hat? Do you have it on right now?
- 1:07:08I'm prepared for what you're. About to lay out on the table
- 1:07:11your stat hat. OK.
- 1:07:12So, so far this year, Jordan Montgomery.
- 1:07:16A 290. Four expected batting average
- 1:07:19ranks bottom 6% in the league. 14 point. 4K percentage, bottom
- 1:07:278% in the league. The Sinker.
- 1:07:33In 2023, averaged 93 miles an hour, this year down to 91.
- 1:07:42The Sinker. Was used 42% of the time last
- 1:07:46year. Now down to 30. 3% of the time
- 1:07:52the curveball used 22% of the time last year, now up 31%.
- 1:08:02The whiff percentage on the curveball last year was at 37%.
- 1:08:07It is now down to 24% if you ask me.
- 1:08:15Why mess with what we're doing here?
- 1:08:17I understand moving to the new staff, new pitching coach, new
- 1:08:20catchers, but like shouldn't some of the philosophy remain
- 1:08:25the same based on the your success from last year?
- 1:08:30I don't know. And this isn't some young.
- 1:08:33Buck coming up through the system, he's he's been around
- 1:08:36the league for a minute. He, he knows at this point in
- 1:08:38his career what's working and what has the potential to
- 1:08:41continue working as he gets older and deeper in his career.
- 1:08:46I don't know. I mean, I, I, I think yes, it
- 1:08:48goes back to missing spring training.
- 1:08:49But to your point, mixing it up philosophy wise, pitch selection
- 1:08:53wise, I don't know if that's the answer to like hitting the like,
- 1:08:58is that their version of hitting the panic button?
- 1:09:00Like we didn't get the preparation we're looking for.
- 1:09:02So let's try to mix up our game plan to accommodate that.
- 1:09:06I I don't know, but it, it just seems like for him being in the
- 1:09:10league, as long as he has maybe a fall back to what you know, as
- 1:09:15you continue to get your feet, feet under, under you with a
- 1:09:18short screen. But get that?
- 1:09:20What? Why are we using the curveball
- 1:09:22so much? Using the curveball as often as
- 1:09:25you're using your sinker. That math Don't math.
- 1:09:31For me. Speaking of math, not Mathen,
- 1:09:39how do we feel about the Miami Marlins eating 24.6 million?
- 1:09:51What is that contract? First of all, Avasail Garcia.
- 1:09:54Whose idea? Was that let?
- 1:09:57Me pull that up real quick. 53 mil four year deal.
- 1:10:04Just before the lockout. What part of his game brought
- 1:10:12that idea to the table? I could be wrong, but let.
- 1:10:20Me see here he's 33. Best season looks like 2021.
- 1:10:36No, you go back to 2017. He was an All Star 885 OPS.
- 1:10:43He's just an average guy. He's a career average 100 OPS
- 1:10:47plus. Career 7:30.
- 1:10:51Three OPS. Averages 21.
- 1:10:57Home runs a year. I don't see it.
- 1:11:02Yeah, literally 100 on the. Dot OPS plus where?
- 1:11:06Where was the just a dumb move? I mean he signed before.
- 1:11:12The lockout, as I mentioned. In his 2020.
- 1:11:17One season he put up 29 bombs, 86, So that was the Milwaukee
- 1:11:21deal. The Brit in the the.
- 1:11:25In the Marlins traded for him. Is that what you're telling me
- 1:11:29'cause he was in Milwaukee in 2020 and 2021?
- 1:11:31No, but when it that. He would have signed as AI think
- 1:11:34he signed as a free agent in 2020.
- 1:11:37Two with Miami. Yeah, here's a here's a free
- 1:11:40agent. Yeah, before the 2022 season.
- 1:11:42Yeah, what a horrendous. Lack of scouting.
- 1:11:52He's been on the IL multiple. Times with the Marlins.
- 1:11:54Just not a good story there. It's a terrible contract.
- 1:11:58Not a good. Not a good stay in Miami.
- 1:12:02Yeah, really not much more to add there.
- 1:12:04Just wanted to note yet another team deciding it's better off to
- 1:12:08just eat the contracts and, and move along.
- 1:12:10You know, I'm, I'm OK with that. I I, I think I like that a
- 1:12:14little more these days. Let's just hand up
- 1:12:16accountability. On that team and that I can
- 1:12:18appreciate, some hand up accountability I appreciate.
- 1:12:21That Miami, like, just eat the money.
- 1:12:25You got plenty of it. All these teams, you got plenty
- 1:12:28of it. Whether or not you want to admit
- 1:12:29it or not, you got plenty of it. So just eat it and and move on.
- 1:12:32Let go of the dead weight. That's it.
- 1:12:34The much better. Much better approach, it's much
- 1:12:37more of an enjoyable product for your fans.
- 1:12:41Lastly here weekend series to watch.
- 1:12:48Originally, I wasn't. Even going to bother coming up
- 1:12:50with the weekend series to watch cause the only series I want to
- 1:12:52watch is the one you're going to be covering because talk about a
- 1:12:55a showdown. But we remembered that the
- 1:13:01London series is in fact this weekend.
- 1:13:04I don't, I just don't feel like it's being promoted enough.
- 1:13:10Maybe it is and I'm just maybe it's kind of.
- 1:13:13Slipped under my nose. I don't.
- 1:13:14Know I just the only the only coverage I've I've seen or the
- 1:13:18only news I should say that came out of that whole series preview
- 1:13:23and promotion today was that did you see that like it was like a
- 1:13:27Hawaiian shirt or like a collared shirt that had both
- 1:13:31teams logos on it as something. That you could.
- 1:13:34Buy in the team store and I'm like we're already off to a
- 1:13:36horrendous start with this. Seems like a British thing.
- 1:13:41Somebody. Somebody.
- 1:13:42Encapsulated that perfectly they they posted the picture of that
- 1:13:45shirt in the team store and they said This is why we started the
- 1:13:47American Revolution that's right that and.
- 1:13:50Because they have beans and toast for breakfast, I mean.
- 1:13:54Who does that? Yeah.
- 1:13:57Baked beans. Insane.
- 1:14:01Insane. But yeah, that series is a A2
- 1:14:06gamer. Game one being on this Saturday
- 1:14:09at 1:10 PM Eastern. That's Ranger Suarez and Sean
- 1:14:13Manaya going up against one another.
- 1:14:14That'll be on Fox. Game 2 will be on ESPN on
- 1:14:18Sunday. They're actually switching.
- 1:14:21Switching home teams for the series.
- 1:14:22I think they I think they usually do that for the series
- 1:14:25now, don't they? I think so.
- 1:14:26I. Think they give each team a A?
- 1:14:28Run at it. So New York, the Mets will be
- 1:14:30the home team on Saturday. The Phillies will be the home
- 1:14:32team on Sunday, so it'll be the Mets.
- 1:14:36At the Phillies, 10. AM Sunday on ESPN Jose Cantana
- 1:14:40versus Taiwan Walker. I'm good.
- 1:14:46Saturday's. Probably you're good, definitely
- 1:14:48not watching. That Sunday, Yeah, if you want
- 1:14:50to TuneIn. And then just say you caught
- 1:14:52some of the London series. Yeah, check out.
- 1:14:55Saturday's game. Do it on Saturday, the one we've
- 1:14:58all been waiting for. The LA Dodgers are going to New
- 1:15:02York. Face the Yankees series starts
- 1:15:06Friday. Just a heads up, that is an
- 1:15:09Apple TV game, so do what you need to do set up your trial,
- 1:15:13steal people's logins. Actually, I don't even think you
- 1:15:16can do that. Huh, 'cause it's like the Apple
- 1:15:18ID thing. I think if you let.
- 1:15:20Me see. I think if you.
- 1:15:25Google. Just.
- 1:15:30If you need a trial, I, I, I may have mentioned this before.
- 1:15:34If you need a trial, go to MLB.com and just do a little
- 1:15:36digging. You'll, you'll see it on there.
- 1:15:38They're throwing, they're giving away like two-month trials for
- 1:15:41Apple T VS Like if you need to catch this game or maybe your
- 1:15:45team's going to be on Apple TV in the coming weeks, dig around
- 1:15:49on there. If you haven't done the trial
- 1:15:50already, it should be there for you.
- 1:15:52Yeah. Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 1:15:54Game one, you got Yamamoto going against Poteet.
- 1:15:57This is a spot start for the Yanks just 'cause they lost
- 1:16:01Clark Schmidt last week. So Poteet is, I think, only made
- 1:16:05three starts this year. Two starts maybe, but that's
- 1:16:09game one on Friday, Saturday, 4:30 Pacific.
- 1:16:15You got Gavin Stone going against Nasty Nester.
- 1:16:20That's on. Fox and then Sunday. 4:00 PM
- 1:16:26Pacific that's. Definitely.
- 1:16:27Sunday night baseball, Yeah. Well, it's on ESPN.
- 1:16:32So I'm going to say, yes, this is the one to watch.
- 1:16:36Sunday is the definitely the one to watch.
- 1:16:38Catch your catch your Sunday night baseball.
- 1:16:41It's glass now versus heel. Yeah.
- 1:16:47Two. Very much dominant pitchers at
- 1:16:50the moment. It's just going to be, it's
- 1:16:54going to be fun man. It's going to be good amount of
- 1:16:56stars on one field like Freddy, Mookie, Ohtani, Judge, Soto all
- 1:17:03hanging out, all playing against each other.
- 1:17:07This is big time. This is a good series.
- 1:17:12I love it, can't wait. The wife and family want to go.
- 1:17:14To the lake on Saturday. And I'm like, I don't know.
- 1:17:17I don't don't know if I can make it.
- 1:17:20Is that the first time? I've heard you say your wife.
- 1:17:23That might be the first time I've heard you say that.
- 1:17:25How about it? It feels pretty cool to say.
- 1:17:27I'll say that. How about it?
- 1:17:28How about? It clap it up for Nate.
- 1:17:30No, we'll be. Back in time for that.
- 1:17:31We're good. We're good.
- 1:17:32We can go to like, clap it up for Nate.
- 1:17:35I'll allow it, married man, big chirps.
- 1:17:40Hey, shout outs, Christopher on the chat says hey guys, how's it
- 1:17:44going Christopher? Hey, that's.
- 1:17:48Literally as I, as I. Post that he he says acknowledge
- 1:17:51me while we're acknowledging you.
- 1:17:54Welcome to the three outside, Christopher.
- 1:17:56That's you're you're now forever a part of history.
- 1:18:00How about it? Hey.
- 1:18:05Sister-in-law hit us. With the trivia question, the
- 1:18:07weekly trivia question, I was wondering if we were.
- 1:18:10Due what do we got? I'm on fire today out of
- 1:18:12curiosity. Do you know what year the first
- 1:18:15MLB World Series was? No dude.
- 1:18:19MLB World Series 19 O One. No.
- 1:18:28Was it not? No, I don't think the.
- 1:18:30First World Series came around until I want to say the Teen 19
- 1:18:34O3 dude. It was I was only two years off,
- 1:18:37really good for. You, you cheated cheating for
- 1:18:41her. Hey, she's the one who reaches.
- 1:18:44Out to me. I've called her on it.
- 1:18:45I said you you shouldn't. To be fair, my success rate
- 1:18:50before I started bringing these questions on to the podcast when
- 1:18:53I was just doing it like by myself pretty low.
- 1:18:55My no, my, I was crushing it. I was crushing it.
- 1:18:58Yeah. And I called her on it.
- 1:19:00I was like, what are you doing? You can't be, you can't be
- 1:19:05hitting it. And she's like, well, you're
- 1:19:06like, you're the go to baseball person that I know that is going
- 1:19:09to know these things. I'm like, it's not how trivia
- 1:19:11works. And she goes, that's fine.
- 1:19:13So I just kind of, I just like whatever wild that she can have
- 1:19:15her. Phone during trivia?
- 1:19:16Where is this trivia being done? Prison.
- 1:19:19I don't know. We need to tighten up.
- 1:19:21Whoa, dude. Japanese or American?
- 1:19:25I don't know. I don't know which which.
- 1:19:27Which prison allows phones for weekly trivia?
- 1:19:30Couldn't tell you. Dang dude, we need.
- 1:19:32To tighten up the the standards or whatever trivia, do I take a
- 1:19:36stance? Do I just say like, I'm not
- 1:19:38going to answer your trivia anymore because absolutely not
- 1:19:40this. Is great content.
- 1:19:42I mean, I just went into a. Whole spiel earlier about Shohei
- 1:19:45and this whole gambling thing about the integrity of the game
- 1:19:47and we're we're that's fair. We're compromising some
- 1:19:51integrity here. I hear you.
- 1:19:52It's a trivia. Game though but I'm questioning
- 1:19:54if she's texting you on some. We gotta we gotta believe she's
- 1:19:58looking up answers on others. You said it, not me.
- 1:20:01I think. I think that's very much in the
- 1:20:04in the realm of possibilities I'm going to clear myself.
- 1:20:06Of of those accusations, it's family.
- 1:20:09So you gotta do what you gotta do well.
- 1:20:12We'll see, but again, I was only two years off and I know that
- 1:20:15really doesn't matter in trivia, but.
- 1:20:19For out of the amount of. Years.
- 1:20:21I think that's pretty good for my Peace of Mind, yeah.
- 1:20:23I can. I can lay my head down at night
- 1:20:25knowing that I was pretty close. That's all that matters.
- 1:20:28That's. All we got.
- 1:20:29That was a chock full, chock packed episode.
- 1:20:35That's how we do it. That's how we do it.
- 1:20:37Let's have a good weekend, everybody.
- 1:20:40Let's ignore work as. Much as we can the next few days
- 1:20:43and have a good weekend, all right.
- 1:20:46Simple as that. While you're at it, don't go
- 1:20:49chasing curveballs. We love you all and as always.
- 1:20:51Looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:20:54Until next time, stay filthy.
