- 0:34Hello
- 0:50everyone, and hello.
- 0:50Welcome to the third episode of Elite Talks.
- 0:54And today we have a special guest joining us, Nina Han.
- 0:58Hi, Nina.
- 0:59Hi, how are you doing today?
- 1:01How are you doing today?
- 1:02Yeah, I'm doing quite well.
- 1:04Fine.
- 1:04Um, it's very nice to have you here today again, because yeah, yesterday
- 1:11Nina was in the Uh stream to speed dream team practication and now she is the
- 1:17guest star for the init talks episode 3 Hello, by the way, hello jamie.
- 1:24Hello sharon.
- 1:25It's very nice to have you here today.
- 1:27Hi How are you doing guys?
- 1:29Happy almost weekend.
- 1:31Happy almost weekend.
- 1:32It's almost the weekend
- 1:36So nina, so what are you up to lately?
- 1:41Um, yeah, I mean, uh, in terms of racing, there has been quite some things.
- 1:46Uh, I guess, like, if you start all the way back by the Winter Cup, um, I
- 1:52did, I did win, uh, the Screen 2 Speed Winter Cup, which was, uh, amazing.
- 1:58And really close fight was really, really cool.
- 2:01And then, um, I had the Women's Day Invitational again with Screen 2 Speed,
- 2:07uh, which was also quite successful.
- 2:10We'll talk about it later and then also like last week I
- 2:13went to the, um, to England.
- 2:16To be part in a, um, what's it called?
- 2:20Like a competition, uh, from Formula Woman.
- 2:23Right.
- 2:24And yeah, I managed to get into the finals there as well, so.
- 2:27Oh, nice.
- 2:28We'll talk more about the Formula Woman championship later.
- 2:32But first, before, before we get into this kind of question about the winner
- 2:37mentality as the title of this dream.
- 2:39So could you tell us a bit about your story?
- 2:42How, how did you get into sim racing and motor sports?
- 2:47Yeah, I mean, I think we touched on that yesterday already.
- 2:51Um, and I guess I'll give the rough rundown again.
- 2:55Yeah.
- 2:56Uh, when I was thinking about it, I really think my base motivation
- 3:01about like all racing and cars started with the movie Cars.
- 3:04Mhm.
- 3:05Uh, from, um, I don't know what year that was released, but
- 3:09like, I was reasonably young.
- 3:11I was really very small back then, when we had the cars.
- 3:14Yeah, that really made me go, um, oh, cars are cool.
- 3:17Mhm.
- 3:17And, um, Yeah, and then I, I went karting here and there, like, I say
- 3:23here and there, it was like two or three times, I feel like, and I did
- 3:27quite well, especially for my age and not being into racing or something,
- 3:30but my, my parents aren't into cars and no one really, my family is, and
- 3:35so it kind of never really bothered me.
- 3:38Yeah.
- 3:39lived up to, um, like a hobby.
- 3:42Yeah.
- 3:42So I kind of forgot about it until I, um, drove with a, with a neighbor who
- 3:47was driving me to a friend's place.
- 3:50And his car was just like all like, um, kind of like, kind of like a small rally
- 3:55car with like a roll cage and a four point harness and he sent it through a
- 3:59roundabout when he was driving me and that really like reignited this like
- 4:04passion i was like oh cars are still cool and it's really fun to drive fast
- 4:10and then i then i kind of started like um Like racing games again, like when
- 4:14I was younger, I did like a couple of Need for Speed titles, but didn't really
- 4:19like, you know, it didn't really catch on, and then I was like, I don't know,
- 4:2316, 17 at that point, where, um, yeah, I was just really enjoying it again,
- 4:31and, uh, started with, I think, a set of Corsa and Project Cars, a Dirt Rally, and
- 4:38those kind of games, more like casual, and then after a while, Um, yeah, I got
- 4:42onto, I racing with like proper wheels and pedals and now having like a full rig.
- 4:47And I racing is my main r full setup simulator full.
- 4:51Yeah, a full setup.
- 4:52And soon you will get your, um, sim rig from Bel, I think.
- 4:57Also, yes.
- 4:59So you can't wait to see your home and you're like the only one driving it.
- 5:04So good luck and have fun.
- 5:07Yeah, I mean, I can't, I can't wait for that.
- 5:10And maybe there will be some social media, um, stuff attached to this.
- 5:16Yes, please.
- 5:17Um, we'll, I don't know how much I can say and how much is like fixed.
- 5:23Right, right.
- 5:24It's gonna be cool.
- 5:25It's gonna be cool.
- 5:26Like, it's going to be like, very cool, very nice.
- 5:29And especially because you earn it, like, you win it.
- 5:32Because I watch, I watch your race in the International Women's Day.
- 5:35And I saw it like, for a long time, you were like, in B6, something like that.
- 5:39Like, going into the final portion.
- 5:41And then I was like, wait, Nina, Nina won?
- 5:44Nina won the race?
- 5:45I was like, she was in six or something all the time.
- 5:49And how?
- 5:50Yeah, like, Could you tell me a bit about the story behind it?
- 5:53Yeah, of course.
- 5:55I was, um, running, like, P3 or P4 for, like, a long part of, like, the race.
- 6:01And then, um, I had, like, a slightly different strategy to the others, though.
- 6:08So, um, towards the end, I was running in 6th and 7th, I believe.
- 6:13Yeah.
- 6:13Yeah.
- 6:13Yeah.
- 6:14And I was really like, um, on, like on the radio with my team boss who was
- 6:19like, you know, watching over me and like giving me call outs and everything.
- 6:22Right.
- 6:23Uh.
- 6:24I was telling him, Oh, I don't know.
- 6:27It's, I guess the strategy didn't work as we planned and there's no
- 6:30way we're going to get a caution in the last two laps or something.
- 6:34But then we did get another caution and like, I think some
- 6:37people pitted and everything.
- 6:38I just stayed out.
- 6:40And, um, also, um, I got a bit lucky, but that's also part of it.
- 6:46With Athena getting a time penalty.
- 6:50But yeah, I was in a prime position at the end, and then just, um, restarted
- 6:56the race, kept the lead, and, uh, yeah, crossed the finish line first.
- 7:02Yeah, I was like, wow, is that caution flag a miracle for you?
- 7:07Yeah, I mean, it kind of like, um, in Ovals, you always have the risk of like
- 7:12a late caution, but, um, it, it really, like, it came out at the perfect moment
- 7:18for me, and I'm really happy that our strategy did work, uh, as intended.
- 7:24Right.
- 7:24That was like one of the reasons why we went with that strategy.
- 7:27So we would be at the green white checker, we would be in the prime spot.
- 7:30And that's exactly what happened.
- 7:32And, um, yeah, it's still a huge thanks to Charles for, uh,
- 7:36helping me with all of that.
- 7:38Thank you for helping Nina with the strategy and stuff.
- 7:42Because yeah, I feel like in OVAL, sometimes you have to take
- 7:46the risk, like gamble your luck.
- 7:48Waiting for the helping that there will be like another quotient and
- 7:52you took that and it gives you a win Like congratulations for that.
- 7:57So I was like dina is the back to back winner From winter cup straight
- 8:02to the international women's day.
- 8:04So, um Will you join the screen to speed another screen to speed if we
- 8:09are having it like probably in summer?
- 8:12Like another season cup.
- 8:14Yeah.
- 8:14Another season.
- 8:15Yeah.
- 8:15Will you join?
- 8:16Like if I, if I have the time, uh, definitely I'll have to see.
- 8:20How like some real life stuff pans out, but I think I would have to time
- 8:26again I would definitely want to join because especially the Winter Cup was
- 8:32like so much fun because it was over these couple of weeks and I was fighting
- 8:37with Bianca in there quite a bit It was like the battle between you and
- 8:43Bianca all the time, like the close.
- 8:44Yeah, we were always very close and I was never like leading the
- 8:48championship until like the very last race when I like won the whole cup.
- 8:54Um, so like, yeah, we were always very close.
- 8:57We had some great fighting and everything.
- 8:58Yeah.
- 8:59So to come out on top was also like, Really, really cool, and, uh, was
- 9:03like some tricky math, um, connected to it during the last race, and I
- 9:07didn't know exactly where I had to finish, where she had to finish, so I
- 9:10just, like, gave it my best, and won by one single point at the end of it.
- 9:15So, yeah, it was exciting.
- 9:17That is like a really close championship battle between you and Bianca.
- 9:22Like, yeah, I think for, I think as far as I saw, it's always like,
- 9:26Bianca always like won the race.
- 9:28Not like always, but I think like, she won the race, like the, in few rounds, right?
- 9:33So, yeah.
- 9:35Yeah, like, we, um, both of us had like a lot of wins.
- 9:39Uh, we weren't the only ones winning, but, um, I, I think, if I recall correctly,
- 9:45Uh, if I hadn't, in the last race, if I hadn't got the fastest lap point, then
- 9:53it would have been decided on, I think, the, most amounts of fourth place finishes
- 9:58because we had equal sets of wins, equal second place, equal third places.
- 10:03And I believe I had one more fourth place.
- 10:08It was like really, really close racing.
- 10:11Really, really close.
- 10:13Yep.
- 10:13Oh my God.
- 10:15I think if I were you, back in the Winter Cup, I was so, like, stressed
- 10:20out with the points and stuff.
- 10:22Because, back in the day when I was, like, winning a championship,
- 10:25it was, like, a pretty big gap between me and the second place.
- 10:29Even though that I finished last on my final race, I still win it
- 10:33because I've already collected the points from the previous round.
- 10:37But for you, this whole championship is all about battling, battling, close
- 10:41battle, close battle, close for win.
- 10:44Wow.
- 10:45Do you ever like get stressed out about that?
- 10:48Like, you know, like you want to win, but yeah.
- 10:52I mean, obviously, um, I was always like looking at the points.
- 10:55I always wanted to go for the win, obviously.
- 10:58But, um, In the second to last round, so we always had like two
- 11:04races per round, right, per weekend.
- 11:07So, um, in the, uh, second, second last, uh, round, yeah, in the third to last
- 11:16race, um, I did end up in like a lap one crash and, um, was really like pretty,
- 11:25pretty much at the back of the field.
- 11:27So, um, yeah.
- 11:27And I really thought, oh, that's it, um, Bianca's gonna get it now.
- 11:31Uh, but with, like, the, the way that the points worked and everything, it
- 11:35wasn't impossible, but it was, like, quite difficult to still win it.
- 11:40And then, um, On the last round, on these two races, I just
- 11:45like, had the perfect weekend.
- 11:48I won both races.
- 11:50I think, I'm not sure if I got the fastest lap on the first race, but
- 11:54I did get it on the second lap, on the second race and everything.
- 11:59So, um, it was exactly what I needed.
- 12:02And, yeah, I was giving my all and I was really happy that it worked out that way.
- 12:12So the fastest lap, the fastest lap points really helps you with that.
- 12:16So even though that you're not always winning as long as you're in the
- 12:20finishing in the podium, but then you score the fastest lap in every round,
- 12:25the point will quite help you to be on top of the standings, I guess.
- 12:32Yeah, definitely.
- 12:33Like the points are like the fastest lap points are also part of it.
- 12:37And I didn't get it every time.
- 12:39Every race, like Bianca also had it a couple of times.
- 12:42I think Sarah Dove also had it, uh, one or two times.
- 12:47So, um, yeah, it was really cool.
- 12:50And every, every single point counts, and that's what helped me.
- 12:56Oh, anyway.
- 12:57Hello, Sophie and Yvonne.
- 13:00Hi, how are you doing?
- 13:01And happy almost weekend chat.
- 13:02Happy almost weekend.
- 13:03So we are having a talk with Nina right now.
- 13:07So Nina, so Nina and I are talking about the winter cup.
- 13:12So the screen to speed winter cup, because all this time I see from the
- 13:16clips from the broadcast, but I haven't really heard about the competition
- 13:20itself inside the, in the, in the winter cup, if you know what I mean.
- 13:24So But then, I think in the Winter Cup, the first round, you, you start based
- 13:31from where you qualified in the race.
- 13:33But on the second one, it's like a reverse grid kind of thing, right?
- 13:38I think?
- 13:39Uh, yes, it was, uh, always like, um, we had like a qualifying and then we had
- 13:46the reverse grid for the second race.
- 13:48Yeah, the reverse one.
- 13:49Didn't make it interesting.
- 13:52Um, Although it, it was like sometimes a bit stressful to weave, uh,
- 13:57through the, like, uh, slower cars.
- 13:59Mm hmm.
- 14:00Right.
- 14:00Especially when, when you're still fighting, um, because usually, Mm hmm.
- 14:05Bianca and me, we were, like, quite far up front in the race finish.
- 14:09Mm hmm.
- 14:10And then for the next race, we would be like together again, but at the back.
- 14:15So we kind of like, we're fighting each other, but also trying to get like, to
- 14:18lose like as little time as possible to, you know, overtake other people on track.
- 14:25And on some tracks that was easier, on some tracks like Laguna Seca, I
- 14:29remember that was really difficult.
- 14:33And yeah, it's, um, it gave a new challenge to it.
- 14:37It's, I don't know if I prefer it to like, uh, some other version.
- 14:43Um, Yeah, because it was a bit tricky and sometimes, I don't know, I also didn't
- 14:50want to, like, ruin anyone else's race, obviously, because they're also racing
- 14:55and if I come through just because I'm faster, I didn't want to, like, hit
- 15:00anyone, I didn't want to spin anyone out, obviously, because they're in their own
- 15:04race and I don't want to ruin anything for them, so it was tricky sometimes.
- 15:08Right.
- 15:09So running, like, the reverse grid, the gameplay and the strategy is, like,
- 15:13totally different than starting in front.
- 15:16Like, yeah, in a reverse grid, you want to make overtake as fast as you
- 15:20can, but you want to make it safe.
- 15:23And then you have to, um, how do you say, like, you have to face other
- 15:28drivers with different pace than you, so Like, you have to predict also, right?
- 15:33Like, okay, how is this driver gonna do if I do this, if I do that?
- 15:38So, I assume that the reverse grid can be hard.
- 15:43Like, can be, like, really hard.
- 15:45Because if you start in front, you know, like, for example, like, you'll
- 15:49be battling with Bianca all the time.
- 15:51And then, like, you'll be pulling off the gap with the car speed.
- 15:54Behind you at some point, like you're running fast.
- 15:57Both of you, you're battling you, you go in front, but in the, in the
- 16:02reverse grid, you'll be like, okay, I'll start like from the very, very back.
- 16:06And then like, you have to deal with the T1 carnage most of the time.
- 16:11Cause the, the first lap can be like crazy for some people.
- 16:14Like, yeah, that's how I see.
- 16:16Um, yes, but we had, I think a total of eight races.
- 16:22And there was only like one race out of them that had like a, sort of like a
- 16:27bigger incident in the first, um, lap.
- 16:30So, I think the driving standards were pretty good.
- 16:34So, um, of course we had like a bit of like a pace difference here and there.
- 16:38But I think the racing standards themselves were quite, quite good.
- 16:43And that also helped, um, because I do have like some experience in like
- 16:47the multi class races or something.
- 16:49Mm hmm.
- 16:50Right.
- 16:50So, um.
- 16:51I kind of, like, was thinking about, okay, if I have a card that is,
- 16:57like, significantly slower than me, then I kind of would just, like,
- 17:01approach it like a multi class.
- 17:03Ah, right.
- 17:05If I'm just, like, a little bit faster or something, then I would just, like,
- 17:11try to battle for a position as normal.
- 17:15And it makes for different overtakes, kind of.
- 17:18Okay.
- 17:19Yeah, the way you like trying to overtake someone, it, it can be different because
- 17:25especially in winter cup, like we have so many drivers coming from different
- 17:29background, different experience.
- 17:31So it makes the competition.
- 17:33It's like, More complex sometimes because you have to deal with a very experienced
- 17:38and I'm not saying like, uh, the other one is not good or not, not having experience,
- 17:43but it can be different because, because of things, you know, like this and that.
- 17:48And also like, maybe there are some people who get used to different seem
- 17:51and something like that, you know?
- 17:53So for me.
- 17:55I don't know, for me sometimes starting from the back and try to get the wind
- 18:00in front can be like really really hard than starting in front and running
- 18:04away from from the back behind you.
- 18:08It made some, for some great racing.
- 18:11Yeah, it is obvious.
- 18:12I want to join the Winter Cup too.
- 18:14I wish I joined.
- 18:18Yeah, so like, obviously if you're, if you're already in front, um, then you
- 18:22kind of have like a different type of race where you don't have to, if you, if
- 18:26you have the pace, let's say, then you can just focus on like running away and
- 18:30just not get overtaken by second place.
- 18:34But like when you start from the back, then you kind of have to,
- 18:37yeah, you're going to lose some time in the, in the start just because
- 18:41you have cars in front and you need to overtake if you are faster.
- 18:45Right.
- 18:45So It makes for different types of races, I'd say.
- 18:50Yeah, and the different types.
- 18:51But which one do you prefer more?
- 18:53Starting in front or starting from the back?
- 18:55Like last to first challenge?
- 18:58Uh, it depends on the level of competition, I would say.
- 19:02If, if there are drivers that are, um, like, really, really, like,
- 19:08good and, like, above my level or something, I would technically want
- 19:13to start, like, a bit further ahead.
- 19:14I would.
- 19:15Because I think my race craft in terms of defending and keeping
- 19:19a position is quite good.
- 19:22But like, um, for like the pure fun of it, obviously if I, if I am one of the faster
- 19:29cars in the field, it's obviously fun to have this challenge of overtaking people.
- 19:35And, um, yeah, just, um, trying to like, um, Trying different things to like,
- 19:42really overtake, see what works, what doesn't, where you have to like, go for
- 19:46a move and then realize, ah, okay, it doesn't quite work, and, um, then you
- 19:51kind of have to use a bit more tactics, which is a lot of fun, but, um, yeah,
- 19:57it's, it's just gonna slow you down, so, obviously, the further you go.
- 20:01Part ahead, um, the better.
- 20:03The better, right.
- 20:04Because when you're battling someone, both of you like, technically
- 20:08losing time because you're battling.
- 20:09So, there's like some, something that you have to, what do you say, like
- 20:15you have to compromise, I must say, like when you're battling someone.
- 20:18At least for me, I don't want to keep the battle for a long time because I'll, I'll
- 20:22be losing time and, I feel like at some point, someone behind me will eventually
- 20:27catch up if I keep on battling, like, trying, trying to make overtake, but not
- 20:32sure about it, so, you know, like, I'm losing time, and the gap to the car behind
- 20:37me is getting closer and closer, so I was like, okay, enough playing, let's go.
- 20:42I'll be like that.
- 20:44Yeah, um, it depends, I guess, again.
- 20:48Like, if you, if you're just really far ahead and, um, I don't know.
- 20:56For example, with Bianca in the Winter Cup.
- 20:58Sometimes we found ourselves in a race where we were either like
- 21:03us two or maybe like a third or fourth car in the mix as well.
- 21:07But we were kind of like running away from like the rest of the pack.
- 21:11And then, then you can start like battling a little and really like,
- 21:15especially towards the end of the race, really start to try to be in
- 21:19the optimum position for the finish.
- 21:21Yeah.
- 21:21But, um, if you either have, like, still, like, um, a leader in front that has
- 21:29build, build up a gap to, like, second place and go in third, then it would make
- 21:34sense to not battle too much, um, because then you both can just, like, catch up to
- 21:41the car in front, and then you can make it, like, a three way battle instead of
- 21:45making the two way battle, and as soon as you're, uh, eventually manage to get
- 21:49ahead, then P1 is just like so far ahead that you're never going to catch up.
- 21:55Uh, same goes to like if you're, um, two cars fighting in the front, and position
- 22:02three and four for example are with a bit of a gap behind, but you don't want to
- 22:06start to fight too early so they don't like start mixing in until the finish.
- 22:12you kind of want to have enough of a gap to when you start fighting and you both
- 22:15lose a bit of time that you kind of can both keep their position and not not lose
- 22:22more than you could gain right right right so even battling someone you have to have
- 22:28a strategy you must have a strategy and like you have to think like if i battling
- 22:33this guy or whoever if we battle And then like, you will see like, okay, we, we
- 22:40made it like, okay, we made the overtake, but then the gap to the car in front
- 22:43of you is already like 17, 20 seconds.
- 22:46And I don't know, for me, if I see the gap above 10 seconds, it's quite impossible,
- 22:51especially if the race is about to end, like, nah, not gonna make it.
- 22:57Yeah.
- 22:58I mean, again, uh, it kind of depends on how long your race is.
- 23:03If it's a 20 minute race, then that kind of gap is.
- 23:07quite hard to close without the other person making a mistake.
- 23:10But if you're doing endurance races or something, and there's still an hour to go
- 23:15out of 24 hours or something, for example, that gap might seem quite big, especially
- 23:20if it's been like, the same over for the last three hours or something.
- 23:25But a lot of stuff can happen within one hour.
- 23:28So, um, just never give up.
- 23:31I mean, obviously don't go for stupid moves.
- 23:36think that like you, you don't really can catch up.
- 23:39So, you know, sometimes it's also good to just keeping your position,
- 23:44but I would never give up and just say like, Oh, I'm never going to
- 23:48catch it because you never know.
- 23:50Sometimes stuff happens and then maybe every second counts.
- 23:54Yeah, true.
- 23:57Because sometimes like we are too afraid to make a mistake, but We forgot that
- 24:04someone else can make a mistake too.
- 24:06Like you're not the only one on the track and yeah, anything can happen.
- 24:10And especially if you, if you do have this like 10 or 15
- 24:13second gap after a long race.
- 24:15Or like towards the end of a long race that can also make the other person in
- 24:19front a bit nervous You know if if they see like hey, okay I really hope my tires
- 24:24are still holding up and that person behind me has been like 10 seconds The
- 24:30gap has been 10 seconds for the whole race so sometimes that can cause like
- 24:36thoughts of like Oh, I hope I don't mess up because if I spin i'm gonna
- 24:40lose a win And they spin because they're thinking too much about the spinning.
- 24:46So you really have to be strong in your mental game as well, and not let
- 24:51these thoughts get to you when you're in that position, but also maybe try
- 24:55and induce those kind of thoughts in your opponents to gain an advantage.
- 25:02Then, how do you train your mental for that?
- 25:06I'm down to the question like that.
- 25:07Like, how do you like train your mental?
- 25:09Like, yeah, this is a race I want to win no matter what happened.
- 25:13I, I won't give up, but sometimes, you know, like, not gonna lie.
- 25:17Sometimes we, as a human will be like, you know, God, I'm tired of this.
- 25:22Oh my God.
- 25:23Did this guy catch me?
- 25:25It's catching me.
- 25:26So how do you like train your mental?
- 25:29Like to be.
- 25:31To stay positive in the race like to stay like keep your
- 25:34heads up no matter what happened.
- 25:35We do it We finish the race Um It's sometimes it can be difficult.
- 25:42That's true.
- 25:43But uh I I've seen it like with a friend sometimes who would like
- 25:50every time that um, He made a mistake or he spun out or something.
- 25:55He would just like quit the race You And, um, Oh, I'm not going to win it.
- 26:00I'm not going to win it anyway now.
- 26:02But he'd like lost so much eye rating doing that because like,
- 26:06instead of finishing like fifth or something, he just like quit and,
- 26:11and like finished last because he didn't like recover from his spins.
- 26:17And, um, I noticed that when I started on eye racing, I also had like one
- 26:23or two races where I was like, huh.
- 26:25I don't know.
- 26:26I don't, I don't know if that's worth it, but I just like continued the race and
- 26:31saw that others make mistakes as well.
- 26:33And in a race with, I don't know, 20 people where I was running P17 and I
- 26:39thought like, oh, this race is over.
- 26:41Within a couple of minutes, I managed sometimes to get back to
- 26:45like into top 10 or top 5 even.
- 26:49So it's, it's really like a mentality that pays off.
- 26:54And, um.
- 26:56I would say, like, really, like, actively try it.
- 26:59Even, even if you think it's, it's not going to work and you're
- 27:03not going to improve, finish the race and see where you end up.
- 27:07You might be surprised at, like, how good you will be doing at the end of it.
- 27:13That's That's beautiful, right?
- 27:16Because sometimes like yeah, people will be like giving up like I've seen like
- 27:20I did some official session in iRacing and yeah Of course, we know the chat the
- 27:24voice chat and everything and I did mostly awful in iRacing and you know Like after
- 27:30that big crash you will see like some people will get disconnected right away.
- 27:34Like, you know, like They crash, they back to the pit, and they
- 27:38quit the game, go to the other one.
- 27:40But yeah, I think for me, no matter where you finish, you have to finish the race.
- 27:45That's the mentality that I got in my head, like, maybe I don't have
- 27:49the mental, the winner mentality yet, as in like, you know, those kind of
- 27:54mentality, but for me, as a start, you have to finish all the race.
- 27:58Like, no matter where you finish, you try to finish.
- 28:01That's the first step for me.
- 28:04Yeah, and also just like, I think what goes with that is
- 28:08to just stay out of trouble.
- 28:10You don't have to be the fastest, especially when you're starting out.
- 28:14Like, I was, um, think like, like starting out on, especially on iRacing,
- 28:20on like a sim where, you know, at the end of the day, it doesn't count.
- 28:23It's, it's a piece of software.
- 28:26There is no like real racing, like racing, yeah, but like
- 28:29no real cars attached to it.
- 28:32So, um, Really just like finish it and be like consistent in the terms of like
- 28:39don't spin and just keep it on track.
- 28:42You don't have to like immediately be, um, Setting pole laps.
- 28:48It's it's like going to the gym where like when you when it's your first day
- 28:53in the gym No one expects you to lift the heaviest weight So am I racing as well?
- 28:59Like if you're just starting out or also if you've been on there for a longer
- 29:03time, but only now start taking it more seriously No one's expecting you to be
- 29:08like an eSports pro, you know, all of that The people who are really, really good at
- 29:14the game spend thousands of hours in it.
- 29:17True.
- 29:18So, that's something that people often forget, I feel like.
- 29:23Because, um, if you, it's easy to like look at the top times and see them going.
- 29:30I want to be there.
- 29:31I want to be on the top, you know, like.
- 29:33Yeah, like looking at the fastest times and then you're just like,
- 29:36oh, I can't, I can't do this.
- 29:38And like, they're just born better or something.
- 29:41Yeah.
- 29:41Mm hmm.
- 29:41Well, most of it is down to just practice and just like sitting down also like
- 29:47analyzing your telemetry or like your lines and like, just like looking at
- 29:53what you're doing after you've done it.
- 29:55And yeah, just like analyze where you could improve and what the
- 29:59difference is to the people who are doing faster lap times than you.
- 30:03Right, right.
- 30:04Like always analyze, like, like always analyze your performance in the race.
- 30:11I think most of the time, like, uh, at least for me, based on my experience,
- 30:15like people like saying like, yeah, you need to use more of the track.
- 30:19And then I feel like when I was in the cockpit view, I
- 30:22feel like, Oh, I use the track.
- 30:24I use all of it.
- 30:26I touch the curb.
- 30:27I went off the grass.
- 30:29That's how I feel.
- 30:29But then I look into the replay from the, from the, uh, not
- 30:33the cockpit, the chopper view.
- 30:35So you can see like.
- 30:36how you go in the track.
- 30:38I was like, yeah, no, I haven't used all the track yet.
- 30:41I haven't used it.
- 30:42So how do you practice?
- 30:44Like, how do you like practicing for driving at certain
- 30:49track with a certain car?
- 30:51Um, like, how do you watch the replay?
- 30:54Yeah.
- 30:55Or like, uh, it depends on the type of racing I'm, I'm going to
- 31:00be doing kind of if it's like an endurance race or like a sprint race.
- 31:04Mm hmm.
- 31:05But in general, in general, it does make sense to really like do a couple
- 31:10of laps just to get like a baseline in.
- 31:12It doesn't matter what lap time it is.
- 31:14It really doesn't.
- 31:16And to then just like, you know, do it like consistently.
- 31:21See that you can do like the same lap time, I don't know, let's say for
- 31:24the starters, within one second and always doing like the same lap time
- 31:29and then you, you go back to your replay and you look at your car from
- 31:34the chase and you say, on every corner, I'm like, I don't know, still half a
- 31:40meter away from the edge of the track.
- 31:43And then you can like.
- 31:44Really like sit in there again and just like also like drive down like a straight
- 31:49slow and just go to the More and more to the right hand side and just here
- 31:56When your tires touch the grass and then like notice, okay How wide is my car?
- 32:02How much space do I have to the edge of the track to then be
- 32:06using all of it for the next time?
- 32:08You're trying to improve driving slow bring your car more to the edge So
- 32:14you can actually see or feel, okay, this is the edge of this corner.
- 32:19Like, okay.
- 32:20Yeah, like in, in real life racing, you obviously have these like
- 32:23time constraints of like, it costs money to, to get the car on track.
- 32:28The track has only, you know, Limited hours where you can just be on track.
- 32:34You're also just like you can't like really like go out there and stop
- 32:37with the car and like go really really slowly and try out stuff, but in sim
- 32:42especially during like test drive sessions where you're alone on track
- 32:47you can do whatever you want and You should absolutely use that and try
- 32:52to improve that way because you're not going to be in the way of anyone
- 32:56It's not going to cost you anything.
- 32:58It's available 24 7 And, yep.
- 33:03Right.
- 33:03So, always practicing the limit of the track, of the car, like no matter where
- 33:09you, like, um, which track you are in.
- 33:13So, that is like pretty much your method of practicing.
- 33:18Yeah, and also just like, um, look at my lines, look at, uh, look at
- 33:24the delta obviously at a certain point, but, um, also with the delta.
- 33:29It's important, in my opinion, to sometimes turn the delta off and
- 33:33just do the same thing over and over and over again without the delta.
- 33:39And it, it might not be your fastest lap time, but I oftentimes notice that
- 33:44if I turn it off, I improve because I stop looking at the delta and I just
- 33:49stop, I start looking at the track and my braking points, my turn in points.
- 33:53Right, right.
- 33:55I'm focusing more on the driving and I stopped chasing the Delta because at
- 33:59the end of the day, the Delta up there, if it's green or red, doesn't matter.
- 34:04It's the way you drive around the track and how settled you are
- 34:08and how focused you are on it.
- 34:09So you can do it like, yeah, one lap after the other and just get the consistency up.
- 34:17And with consistency, you then can build speed because if you're, I don't
- 34:23know, losing, you know, Half a second in the in this one corner every lap,
- 34:28but you're doing the same thing every lap Then you can like look at it and be
- 34:32like hey I could break 50 meters later and suddenly you gain a lot of time and
- 34:39because you practice the consistency You then can do it like every lap after that
- 34:45Consistency is key Everybody said that.
- 34:49Yvonne also said that like sometimes I talk to Yvonne like I'm sorry, like
- 34:55I'm nervous, not like nervous, nervous, but you know what, I'm, I don't know
- 34:59what, how am I going to do in the race?
- 35:01I think I remember I told Yvonne about that, like back in the day,
- 35:04and she just told me like, you know what, keep your car on the track,
- 35:09be consistent, and you'll be fine.
- 35:11Cause yeah, sometimes like you see that fast driver like scoring a fast lap,
- 35:15but then he or she crashed, got damaged, and the race is pretty much done.
- 35:21Right, so keep the car on the track and be consistent.
- 35:26Yeah, I would say especially in like the quote unquote lower I ratings,
- 35:32um, so definitely anything under 2k and I would even say like between 2
- 35:40and 3k, I would say like that is the by far most important thing to just
- 35:46keep it on track and don't crash.
- 35:48Right.
- 35:48And just by doing that, just by not crashing, you should see, like, an
- 35:53immediate improvement in your rating, and also in your driving, per se,
- 35:59because you, you start being more comfortable in the car, you trust
- 36:02it more because you don't spin out.
- 36:04Right.
- 36:05And once you're decent at keeping the car on the track, speed will
- 36:12come automatically, and anything after that is not a problem.
- 36:16To me it was a reasonably automatic progress to then just go and
- 36:20like, okay, I'm consistent.
- 36:22I'm okay fast But now I want to go faster and be consistent Then you will find
- 36:28a way like to be faster once you pass the consistency lesson like okay first
- 36:33I gotta be consistent keep the car on the track and then for you it's like the
- 36:37speed comes automatically like after I mean After a while, of course not like it
- 36:42doesn't come instant like in one night.
- 36:44No Eventually, I spent a lot of time in sim.
- 36:48You spend a lot of time in sim like How long you spending you're
- 36:52spending your time like let's say weekly You Um, It fluctuates.
- 36:59Um, currently I don't drive every day.
- 37:02I kind of want to do it every day again.
- 37:05Um, so I couldn't, I couldn't say it.
- 37:09It really depends a lot on my real life stuff, what's going on and everything.
- 37:14So it's, it's different each week, which is, I really want to do
- 37:19it more consistently and really like get like a plan on how much.
- 37:24Yeah.
- 37:24Racing I do per week to just have like a really consistent way of
- 37:29practicing, but um, I'm, I'm working on that to find like a plan that works.
- 37:34Like finding the right time to start the regular stream, not the, I mean, not
- 37:39the regular stream, the regular drive.
- 37:42Like driving, trying to Yeah, I mean, who knows, maybe I'll
- 37:45be streaming in the future.
- 37:46Maybe you should, maybe you should start streaming.
- 37:48Maybe, maybe I'll try it.
- 37:50You know what?
- 37:51Because I think for me, like, you are like one of the best iRacer
- 37:54that I met here in this community.
- 37:57Like, honestly, like, I'm being completely honest with you, like, I adore you.
- 38:02Like, okay, Nina is great.
- 38:04So, I mean, if you're streaming, I will, I will tune into your
- 38:07stream and learn in your way.
- 38:09Because I think for me, most of the time, I'm learning about simracing by watching
- 38:14other people driving on the stream.
- 38:16Bye.
- 38:17Okay, that's how you do it.
- 38:19Okay, I will try that one, you know, so maybe yeah, I will support you if
- 38:23you're streaming one day Anyway, hello everyone Lieber Lieber Lieber lars.
- 38:30Sorry lars.
- 38:31Hi.
- 38:31Hello.
- 38:31Welcome to init esports.
- 38:33Welcome to init talks We are having nina han the back to back winner of sprint
- 38:38to speed winter cup and international woman's day Joining us in the chat.
- 38:43Hi everyone.
- 38:44Hi.
- 38:44Hi All right, where were we?
- 38:47I was saying hi to the chat
- 38:51Yeah, speaking of the routine and practice I realized that A lot of pro
- 38:57driver like spend the whole time in the scene practicing So I look into myself
- 39:03like i'm not doing enough practice yet.
- 39:06I haven't spent enough time in the practice So no wonder I haven't
- 39:10got into that level yet, you know I mean, it's, it depends where you
- 39:15want to end up, I guess, because for like bigger races, for example, like
- 39:20league races or that kind of stuff.
- 39:24Um, if it's like big races, then I would spend like, I don't know, I
- 39:29would say like on average, like 10 to 15 hours practicing for one race.
- 39:35So like, that's like just in practice.
- 39:38Um, it depends.
- 39:40Like, um, for, for the Winter Cup, I wasn't quite able to do that much.
- 39:47Um, but, um, yeah, it, it always depends on, like, how much is going on.
- 39:53I really try to maximize the amount of practice I get in.
- 39:57Because not only for, like, the result in that race, but also just to improve
- 40:02as, like, A driver overall right?
- 40:06Yeah, because also for for like real life racing i'm really Try to get like
- 40:11as much practice as I can basically.
- 40:14Oh yeah, you're doing some aerial racing too.
- 40:17We will talk about it.
- 40:19Oh my god.
- 40:20I'm trying.
- 40:21Yeah.
- 40:22Do you, uh, like, do you just started to get into real racing or
- 40:26you've been doing this for a while?
- 40:28Like your main, your main priority is in real racing and you're doing sim racing
- 40:33in the meantime, or how does it work?
- 40:36No, it's mainly sim racing, but I have raced in real life.
- 40:41So I was, um, like the first time I would really like call myself a racing
- 40:47driver was in the formula student.
- 40:50I was fast enough to be selected as one of two main drivers for
- 40:54the 2019 season in my team.
- 40:58So during that season, I was racing our self built formula car against
- 41:03other universities throughout Europe.
- 41:06Which was great fun.
- 41:07That was amazing.
- 41:08And I I still think like that is probably the most insane car i'll ever drive
- 41:13in my life It was like 85 horsepower on 180 kilos So that thing was really
- 41:21really quick with like a huge arrow package on it You can actually I don't
- 41:26I don't know if you can see like the calendars back there Um, no, I don't
- 41:30really see it Yeah, okay, okay, okay.
- 41:33Um, but those are the type of cars, um, that we were racing.
- 41:36Oh, wait, the one behind, the one behind you?
- 41:38Like, not, not the big one up there.
- 41:39That's like an old F1 car.
- 41:41Yeah, of course.
- 41:42I was like, wait, is that the one?
- 41:44Wait, actually, I can Oh, thank you so much.
- 41:48There we go.
- 41:50Okay, so We are making the guest start doing some work.
- 41:54So that was, uh, I'll try to like put it in the center.
- 41:58Sure.
- 41:58Um That was, uh, one of the cars.
- 42:01That's actually me in the car on that picture.
- 42:03Oh, wow.
- 42:04That is really cool.
- 42:05Oh, um, that is the type of cars, uh, that I was racing.
- 42:09That I drove a couple, a couple different ones, um, during, during some, uh,
- 42:15Testing and everything, but that car on, on there, that wasn't like me driving
- 42:20against other universities there.
- 42:22Driving against other universities, right, right.
- 42:24Yeah, and, um, after that, I was also, um, fortunate enough to have a
- 42:30opportunity to be, In an fully electric Formula 4 at a driver selection
- 42:36in Zolder in 2022, end of 2022.
- 42:41And that was great fun.
- 42:42That was amazing.
- 42:44It was all thanks due to Racing Pride, who, um, yeah, where I sent like a, Um, a
- 42:52little, like, uh, text there because they had, like, a sponsorship, um, available.
- 42:57But I was one of six who got to go there and be on the test day and,
- 43:02uh, that was really, really fun.
- 43:04It was great.
- 43:05Yeah.
- 43:06Overall, a really great day.
- 43:08And, yeah, and then last week, Yeah, and then last week I also went to, um, or like
- 43:14maybe let's do it the other way around.
- 43:18Start of this year, I finally got like my real racing license.
- 43:21So I'm now allowed to race, like race cars.
- 43:25Great.
- 43:26Congratulations.
- 43:27Congratulations.
- 43:28Oh my God.
- 43:30Congratulations.
- 43:32And then, um, Last week, actually, I was in, um, in England and doing a competition
- 43:40with Formula Woman, where I managed to get like all the way to the finals.
- 43:44I didn't quite win it, but I got a little, um, I say a little, I
- 43:48got a beautiful glass trophy here.
- 43:52Oh my god, yeah.
- 43:53For like being in the finals.
- 43:56Congratulations.
- 43:57You make it to the final round, right?
- 43:58Like the final top 15?
- 44:00Was it like top 15?
- 44:01Yeah.
- 44:01Or top 20?
- 44:02It was top 15, yes.
- 44:04Top 15.
- 44:04I see.
- 44:04Uh, so we were, I think, was it 70 or 80 girls there?
- 44:11Mm-Hmm.
- 44:12. And you managed to be like, on, on, on venue, I think.
- 44:15And then, um, out of that I managed to get into like the semi
- 44:19files, which was like top 30.
- 44:21And then.
- 44:22another step into the top 15.
- 44:25And yeah, I learned a lot.
- 44:27And I got to drive a couple of laps at Cadwell Park.
- 44:33Yeah, great racetrack.
- 44:34It's so fun.
- 44:36Um, so yeah, like if you, if you get the chance, like definitely go.
- 44:40It's, It's amazing.
- 44:42I see.
- 44:42I will, I will look into the track map and see, like, how
- 44:45is the catwall park looking.
- 44:46Yeah, like, it's, the track map, yeah, but like, look at the elevation,
- 44:50look at, like, onboards or look at the motorcycles that race there.
- 44:52They even, like, sometimes jump over that one hill.
- 44:56Like, it's absolutely crazy.
- 44:57It's so cool.
- 44:58I love it.
- 45:00Honestly, in the racetrack, I like the racetrack that has like an elevation
- 45:04change, you know, because I'm learning about the press and compression from
- 45:08that thing, you know, like, okay, you cannot, I think you cannot break
- 45:11like right at the top of the hill because wait, I may be wrong on that.
- 45:15But I watch like, um, I mean, you can, you just can't break as hard because the car
- 45:21is going to lift out of its suspension.
- 45:23So you have less force downwards.
- 45:26Right.
- 45:27Oh, so.
- 45:29Push your car to the ground, kind of thing.
- 45:31I don't know if that makes sense.
- 45:32Yeah, and it's kind of, the more force you have, like, downwards, the
- 45:35more grip the tires have, kind of.
- 45:39Ah, right.
- 45:39Um, that's why aerodynamics work, because they push the car in the
- 45:43ground and then you have more grip.
- 45:44Right.
- 45:45The aerodynamic to push the car to the ground.
- 45:48Right, right, right.
- 45:50But then you told us earlier that you actually mainly doing sim racing and
- 45:57that you now you're doing some IRL stuff.
- 46:00So I assume that you're not having like so many experience at the track because, um,
- 46:07comparing to the sim racing, I assume that you do more sim racing than real racing.
- 46:12Is that correct or not?
- 46:13Yeah, definitely.
- 46:14But I think that's like, at this point in time, that is most people who do racing.
- 46:20Because as I mentioned earlier, racing on the track is always dependent on
- 46:23how long the track is open, what are like the hours where you can go on
- 46:27track, it also, it costs like money to, you know, every lap costs money
- 46:31in fuel and tires and everything.
- 46:33True.
- 46:33And every lap that you can already do on the sim is going to help
- 46:38you doing better in real life.
- 46:41So.
- 46:42everyone who's driving like a real race car probably does like way more time in
- 46:49sim as well just to yeah to to like learn the track learn all the bumps learn um
- 46:56how to approach different corners and everything and if you already know all of
- 47:00this and you then sit in the car for real then it's way easier to really know how
- 47:08to like handle the car around this track because also sometimes with cars that
- 47:13are a bit more nervous on throttle, for example, and you know that on the exit of
- 47:17this one corner, you have like a little dip or a little bump, then you know how
- 47:22to put down your right foot in terms of so you don't spin, but you can get like
- 47:28the maximum acceleration out of it and not be surprised by the bump being there.
- 47:33Right, right.
- 47:34Because I was just about to ask you this question, because you spend
- 47:37more time in sim, and You're now that you're doing some IRL race IRL
- 47:42driving then How do you feel like?
- 47:46Sitting in the race track race car going to race in real racetrack,
- 47:51and I don't know like Because for me, I did some karting.
- 47:56So I did some karting sometimes, like try to get used to it,
- 47:59you know, learning about it.
- 48:01Because for me in the sim, I, I was more brave in the sim,
- 48:05because I know it's not real.
- 48:07Like if you crash, you won't feel anything.
- 48:10But then once I get into karting, I feel like, okay, this is fun.
- 48:15There is like some sense that I can gain in, in real life
- 48:18than when I was in the sim.
- 48:20But I was shocked.
- 48:23When I was like having this, doing this carting, I was shocked because, okay, the
- 48:27engine sound is so loud on my right ears.
- 48:31Because then back then I remember in iRacing I turned on the engine
- 48:35volume so I can hear the tires better.
- 48:37But in real life, you cannot custom that sound.
- 48:39So I was like, Oh no.
- 48:41And everything just like blurry in my head.
- 48:44Like, Oh my God, I feel like a noob back then.
- 48:47I know I did some racing, sim racing in, in the sim, but.
- 48:51This is everything is new to me.
- 48:53So how did you like even manage to be in the top 15 in a real
- 48:58car like Tell us a bit about it.
- 49:01Like um Yeah, like obviously sim racing I think is reasonably
- 49:08close to real life at this stage But it does have its limitations.
- 49:12So one thing that we also Talked about yesterday, for example with ByteSkiVisir
- 49:18in our test session Uh, is that, especially at high speeds, uh, you're
- 49:23going to start to get the fear factor.
- 49:26Because in a, in a rig, if, I don't know, someone who knows the track tells
- 49:31you, okay, turn three is just flat out, then you're just gonna, in the
- 49:35sim, you're just gonna do it flat out.
- 49:38And it doesn't matter.
- 49:38And if you spin out or something, then, you know, it doesn't really matter.
- 49:43But if you, if you are racing a real race car, and you're suddenly
- 49:46going, I don't know, Um, two hundred kilometers an hour or something.
- 49:52They are quite different to what you expect, like, what
- 49:55you have in normal cars.
- 49:58Right.
- 49:58Especially when I was doing the, um, Formula Student.
- 50:01Because in there, with all the aerodynamics and the car not
- 50:04being very heavy, we had up to like, um, Certainly above 2.
- 50:105 G and I think the highest I saw on one of my own boards was like 3.
- 50:140 G's, naturally.
- 50:17So that is quite a force that acts on your body.
- 50:20And especially also on your legs.
- 50:22Like for me it was always the legs that were the most like flopping
- 50:25from left to right to be honest.
- 50:27Yep, yep, yep.
- 50:28Cause I think here right, in real life we have that fear factor.
- 50:32Of course like, Before I get into, I mean, I'm not even driving a fast car.
- 50:37I'm just driving like, um, what do you say?
- 50:40Driving in the car, like doing some karting for fun,
- 50:43you know, at the racetrack.
- 50:45I already have that fear factor, like, by, I told you, like, listen to the sound.
- 50:50Like, okay, it's louder than when I was playing games.
- 50:53It already give me like that kind of sensation.
- 50:57Like, you know, like, you know, yeah.
- 51:00And like the, I feel like the sound is something you, you get over quite
- 51:04easily because it's, it's loud in the first moment, you know, usually race
- 51:09cars are quite loud, but you, after being in there for like, I don't know,
- 51:13a couple of minutes, then you're, you're hearing just adjust to it.
- 51:17And it's, it's loud, but like, it's, it's just there at some point.
- 51:21But the, the G forces are like coming and going all the time.
- 51:26So, um, and also the, the faster you go, the higher the forces get.
- 51:30And what you said about like the tire volumes that you would turn
- 51:34down the engine noise or something.
- 51:36I, I do the same in sim just to hear what the tires are doing, but in real life
- 51:41you feel it because like, um, in terms of like aviation, um, terms, you have like
- 51:49the, the pitch, uh, the, the role, and then also the yaw, which is kind of like
- 51:55how, how much you're like drifting, quote unquote, it's not drifting, but like, it's
- 52:02how the car rotates around its own axis.
- 52:05And, um, you feel that and after doing a bit of racing and if you, or like
- 52:12also just if you have like a good natural feel for this, you can feel
- 52:16like how much the tire is supporting underneath you and where you should
- 52:21like, where you can push a bit more and where you should really like don't
- 52:25push more or even like push less.
- 52:28Right, right.
- 52:29I think that's what I I cannot say that, uh, which one is better, but
- 52:36in sim and real life, it has its own difference as in like in the same,
- 52:42you can, you can adjust the volume.
- 52:44Like, I want to listen more to the, to the sound of tires so I can actually
- 52:48feel the limit of the, of my tires.
- 52:51But, um, again, um, I was like, in real life, we have that, um, you know,
- 52:59You know, like we cannot adjust the volume of the sound that we hear on
- 53:04the track, but on the other hand, I feel like I don't really need to
- 53:09listen to the tires because I get the feeling that I didn't get in the scene.
- 53:13Like, for example, based on my experience, I can feel when I'm going
- 53:18like a little bit too fast, going into the corner, like I feel it directly.
- 53:22Meanwhile, in the same, I was.
- 53:24I really need to rely on my eyes to see like if I'm going
- 53:28fast or if I'm going too slow.
- 53:31So yeah, like do you, do you like, not like agree with me on that, but is it
- 53:37like technically true speaking about the difference between road racing, uh,
- 53:41between real life racing and in the sim?
- 53:44Like you can feel the g force in real life, like you can feel that.
- 53:48Well in the sim you can, you can have like a motion sim.
- 53:51So, you know, like you can feel it like.
- 53:53You know, like when your car accelerating or braking.
- 53:56Yeah, like I've driven a motion sim once for around like 10 15 minutes.
- 54:04And, um, it does help a little, but it's different.
- 54:10So, um, you do kind of get the same hints at it, but you don't really, um,
- 54:18It's not the same sensation, because even though you get maybe like a little
- 54:22bit of yaw and like a little bit of like pitch or something, it's, it's
- 54:26different if your car just like climbs like 30 meters up the track because
- 54:30it's going up a hill, because you can't really like get these forces without
- 54:38actually doing the motion in space.
- 54:41Right, right, right, that makes sense.
- 54:43Yeah, so, um, it's close and it's, it's nice to really like feel a bit
- 54:48more, but it's not exactly the same.
- 54:51Not exactly the same, I see.
- 54:53Yeah, and also like, um, one thing that you will feel if you really like race
- 54:58a car fast is like, um, the inside of your body gets like squished a little
- 55:05in, in all the different directions, which is something you never have in sim.
- 55:09And that can be a bit like.
- 55:13That's the thing that makes people sick sometimes on racetracks, if they go
- 55:17for a ride along or something, right?
- 55:18Right, right.
- 55:19I heard about that sometimes.
- 55:21Yeah, so, um, and I, there's, um, you know, no shame in that, because,
- 55:25like, I also think, like, driving in a passenger seat is always, like, way
- 55:29scarier than actually driving yourself.
- 55:32Um, but, like, yeah, the forces are just, are quite different.
- 55:35It's, it can help to have, like, a motion rig or something.
- 55:39But, um, They're still like feeling that yeah, it's it's a bit different.
- 55:45It's a bit different true but then like tell me a bit about You managed
- 55:51to make it to the top 15 in the in your formula woman Event like last week.
- 55:59So yeah, how did you manage to be like?
- 56:02fast and make it to the top 15 like you just floored it send it and You Go?
- 56:11I mean, Going fast, like, how?
- 56:13I mean, it wasn't, it wasn't just the driving.
- 56:16Uh, we had other challenges attached to it.
- 56:19So we had, for the first, uh, to get into the semi finals, we also had
- 56:23like, for example, a written test about like some theory of like, okay,
- 56:28what do you do with a yellow flag?
- 56:30Um, what is the optimal line?
- 56:31Like what is an apex?
- 56:32That kind of thing.
- 56:34Um, which is, which was reasonably easy for me because I only took my, um, My
- 56:40race test like last year, so that was still very fresh and everything, right?
- 56:45But then we also had like media training Where we had an interview and yeah,
- 56:51we just had to like Get through that interview, okay And i'm generally
- 56:57not scared of interviews or cameras.
- 56:59So that was fine.
- 57:00That was fun for you.
- 57:01Like, okay, I can do this Yeah, definitely.
- 57:04Like I I just like Try to really like put out this confidence and just be there and
- 57:10like be Be this cool personality because I also just like love talking about it.
- 57:15It's just like the passion that just lives up in me Sharing
- 57:18your passion, right, right.
- 57:19Yeah And then, yeah, I understand that feeling, like, telling someone about
- 57:24something And then, um, what else?
- 57:26We had a fitness test that was, uh, that was quite exhausting.
- 57:31It's, um, I don't do like fitness that regularly.
- 57:37I do work or like I did work as a car mechanic.
- 57:40So I have like some body strength or something, but I didn't do
- 57:43like too much, um, fitness itself.
- 57:47So, um, that was like reasonably hard for me.
- 57:52But also, um, I set myself the goal to just not give up whatever.
- 57:57Stuff we have to do and it was also hard for a lot of the others But like
- 58:01whatever exercises we have to do I will not give up and I will pull through
- 58:05with it until the end and I did and I'm really proud of myself And that is one
- 58:12of the biggest things that I was proud of because it was it really wasn't an
- 58:15easy fitness test And then being in the top 30 we had to do another fitness test
- 58:21Right like the next morning after already having like sore muscles you So that was
- 58:26quite exhausting, but it was also fun.
- 58:29Um, yeah.
- 58:30What else do we have?
- 58:32Um, we had some driving on like, like just the line.
- 58:37So not every driving we did was about like pure speed, but also just like
- 58:41finding the line and we had an instructor with us who was, um, telling us like,
- 58:46okay, this is your breaking point.
- 58:48This is your turning point and all of that.
- 58:50And then you had to like replicate that and just like.
- 58:54And, um, have like smooth steering, smooth pedals and everything.
- 58:59And once you did that, then you like moved up to like the bigger car and was, were
- 59:03actually driving like a, like a fast car.
- 59:06And, um, yeah, and yeah, I think I got everything.
- 59:11I don't know if, oh, we also had like a reactions test.
- 59:14Um, which you probably have seen on like F1 or something where you have like
- 59:18two little like just balls that um, a trainer would like let go of and you have
- 59:24to catch it or like catch both at the same time before they hit the ground.
- 59:28Yeah, so like we had a couple of different, um, exercises that we had
- 59:32to pass in order to get to the finals.
- 59:35And then, uh, yeah, the finals were in quite tricky conditions
- 59:39as like, you know, common, uh, British weather was striking again.
- 59:45Um, it was constantly like, it was drizzling and then stopped and then
- 59:49was raining heavier and everything.
- 59:50So when I went out on track, it was really like, Slippery and just like greasy the
- 59:56track was really like you were constantly dancing with the car a little Um, and i'm
- 1:00:02so happy with my um results, even though I didn't win it because I just learned a
- 1:00:07lot that day I um talked to an amazing, um race driver and like he did Uh, he was
- 1:00:14an instructor at like a ferrari Facility.
- 1:00:19I don't know if I'm not a hundred percent sure But like his name is Ray
- 1:00:24Grimes and he also looked at some on boards with me and we talked about it
- 1:00:28And how I can improve and everything.
- 1:00:30So I was really informative.
- 1:00:32I learned a lot and Overall, just an amazing event
- 1:00:39It's more than driving on the track because you have to go through even
- 1:00:43the interview like Huh, you you have that media training also from that
- 1:00:48program, which is really great because Wow, you learn a lot and there's like
- 1:00:54so many things to learn I guess in few days I think how long was that?
- 1:00:58Yeah the program like throughout the weekend or Was it?
- 1:01:02Yeah, so it was it was uh, three days in total um one day at like
- 1:01:07a um near the National Motorsports Academy, I think it's called.
- 1:01:13Um, and then, uh, like around Nottingham or in Nottingham.
- 1:01:17And then, um, the last two days were at Cadwell Park.
- 1:01:20So that's a bit more to the east, if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:01:24A lot of drive, like, all the way.
- 1:01:27Yeah, it was like, I think, one and a half hours.
- 1:01:30It wasn't too bad.
- 1:01:30It wasn't bad, yeah.
- 1:01:32It's fine.
- 1:01:32Yeah, it was fine.
- 1:01:34Hmm.
- 1:01:34Um, yeah.
- 1:01:36Wow, that's a lot.
- 1:01:38Like I'm happy for you.
- 1:01:40Like you're going through this program and you managed to be in the top 15.
- 1:01:45So we had this conversation before, like I see you as a pro driver, but
- 1:01:51you say like, I'm, you know, I'm good, but it's not that good, but okay.
- 1:01:55I'm, I'm decent.
- 1:01:57Okay.
- 1:01:57Let's say that if you are decent in sim racing, where do you
- 1:02:01put yourself in real racing?
- 1:02:05Which level are you on, if you're talking about real life driving, let's say?
- 1:02:10Yeah, it's a bit hard to say, because I, I don't have much in
- 1:02:15terms of, um, experience in really, like, comparing myself to others
- 1:02:21in the same type of machinery.
- 1:02:23Because in Formula Student, for example, where I have, like, arguably
- 1:02:26the most experience on track, Um, every university had their own car.
- 1:02:33And so it was like similar to like NF1, you can be like the best driver, but if
- 1:02:40your car is just not quite up to it, then your results are not going to be as good.
- 1:02:44So it's hard to really like compare how much is like the driving, how much is
- 1:02:50the car and um, and all the other events.
- 1:02:54I also don't have like a really good basis of comparing my times to the others.
- 1:03:01So, Obviously, getting to all these like, um, to, yeah, also like when people
- 1:03:08who race for real and look at my own boards and give me tips or something,
- 1:03:12I know that I'm not, not too bad.
- 1:03:14You know, I think I'm decent again, but, um, especially in real life, I
- 1:03:21know that I still have like quite some things to learn, but that's also good.
- 1:03:25That's cool.
- 1:03:26Because that means there, there's new stuff, um, Yeah, and like the excitement
- 1:03:32that comes with it, because there's so much still out there to, to be learned.
- 1:03:37And I think it's absolutely like valid to say that you don't know everything yet.
- 1:03:42And you don't have to be like the best driver already.
- 1:03:46Um, but yeah, my, um, I, I don't know if you mentioned this yet.
- 1:03:51I don't think so.
- 1:03:52But like for my big goal to be racing in the 24 hour race of the
- 1:03:56Nordschleife in like, Let's say the next 10 years is kind of my goal.
- 1:04:02Um, I still have like some things to learn and but I think
- 1:04:06I'm on a good track with that.
- 1:04:08Yeah, and I obviously hope that that's gonna come true at some point.
- 1:04:12I'm into that because I was just about to ask you like, yeah,
- 1:04:15you're doing this IRL stuff.
- 1:04:17Like what are your goals?
- 1:04:19And then you told me like you want to be, yeah, NERP 24, like doing it in
- 1:04:23real life, like driving, competing.
- 1:04:26Yeah, that is obviously like that.
- 1:04:27That's the big dream.
- 1:04:29Because I, I always loved that race.
- 1:04:32That was, um, when my passion for racing, like, reignited, that, that was one of
- 1:04:38the first, like, Great that I really like watched and like followed it was like
- 1:04:43the 24 hour race of Nordschleife because I'm also from Germany and Partly as well
- 1:04:50on the side was DTM back then In current and like in the past couple of years.
- 1:04:55I I haven't really watched DTM too much to be honest Mm hmm, but
- 1:04:59the Nordschleife is just always like I just love that racetrack.
- 1:05:04It's amazing.
- 1:05:05And I'm also going to go there this year, um, to meet up with, um, a couple
- 1:05:10of friends online, like, especially like, um, my, my team that I drive
- 1:05:14with, like, usually Olympus Esports.
- 1:05:17And, um, yeah, I can't wait to meet all of them.
- 1:05:20I didn't meet them in real life yet.
- 1:05:24So I meet them at the track.
- 1:05:26It's such a special track for the event of the 24 hour race.
- 1:05:31Hi, Charlie.
- 1:05:34Hi, hello, by the way.
- 1:05:36Very nice to have you here today.
- 1:05:37We have Nina joining the Init Talks.
- 1:05:40We are talking about Nina being the back to back winner.
- 1:05:44And also I'm asking some questions about sim racing, real racing.
- 1:05:49Hi, everyone.
- 1:05:51You will manage that.
- 1:05:52I keep my finger crossed for you, Nina.
- 1:05:54Thank you so much.
- 1:05:55Sharon, thank you.
- 1:05:56Thank you so much for supporting Nina.
- 1:05:59Thank you.
- 1:05:59And I, I'm really rooting for you, Nina.
- 1:06:01Like, I really hope one day you will reach your goal, like racing in real life.
- 1:06:07Like, you know.
- 1:06:09Nina is awesome.
- 1:06:10Yes, she is.
- 1:06:12I'm rooting for her, like, in the Winter Cup and also, like, in the
- 1:06:16International Women's Day Race.
- 1:06:17I was like, wait, Nina won the race?
- 1:06:20Like, in OVO?
- 1:06:22She just won in road racing and now she's Yeah, like, like, he,
- 1:06:26he was, um, that's my team boss.
- 1:06:28Like, he's on the, um, he was my supporter.
- 1:06:31Like, he was with me in that race.
- 1:06:33He was, like, the one that I was talking to while winning.
- 1:06:36Yep, yep, yep.
- 1:06:36It was so cool.
- 1:06:39Yeah.
- 1:06:39Wow.
- 1:06:40It's so nice to have you here.
- 1:06:41By the way, Charlie, welcome.
- 1:06:43Welcome.
- 1:06:43Happy almost weekend.
- 1:06:45Oh my God.
- 1:06:46What?
- 1:06:46It's so nice.
- 1:06:47Like, you know, like having a spotter in, in your race is really
- 1:06:51important, especially in awful.
- 1:06:53Like, at least for me, awful.
- 1:06:55I really need a spotter and I have to trust my spotter.
- 1:06:59I think that's my thing, you know, like if I have like someone
- 1:07:03new spotting me, I'll be like.
- 1:07:05You know what?
- 1:07:05You join on Discord.
- 1:07:07Don't you ever get into my server?
- 1:07:08Because if I have someone spotting, I cannot hear my AI spotter.
- 1:07:13Something like that.
- 1:07:15Yeah, like there's a setting for that.
- 1:07:17Oh, there's a setting for that?
- 1:07:19Oh yes, you should tell me about it after this.
- 1:07:22Yeah, we can talk later about it.
- 1:07:27Because I think for me, I have to build the trust between me and the spotter.
- 1:07:31Like, build the connection.
- 1:07:35If that makes sense to you, like, I have to trust him.
- 1:07:38Like, when my spotter said like, okay, go left, I was questioning him at the start.
- 1:07:43Like, why should I go left?
- 1:07:44Because I need to reach the level of trusting someone.
- 1:07:50Because I feel like when I have like this human spotter, I'm
- 1:07:53giving my race to this spotter.
- 1:07:57Like, yeah.
- 1:07:58Yeah, I think, I think it's important in that case to Less, like, view it as, like,
- 1:08:04your race, but in the sense of, like, you, singular, and what, like, view it as
- 1:08:09your race in the sense of, like, plural.
- 1:08:11You know, it's like a team effort.
- 1:08:13It's, um, yeah, it's, it really comes together if you trust someone or not.
- 1:08:19Uh, similar to, like, how Rally works with your co driver,
- 1:08:23who's just calling out stuff.
- 1:08:25And if your co driver in Rally says, like, Okay.
- 1:08:28Flat over crest, like, keep to the right, then that's exactly what you're doing.
- 1:08:32And if I'm racing ovals and my team boss on the, on the radio tells
- 1:08:36me like, yeah, clear, move down.
- 1:08:39And I do that.
- 1:08:40I don't question it because I fully trust them.
- 1:08:44Right.
- 1:08:46Yeah, that's the new thing that I learned.
- 1:08:48Because, yeah, since I'm getting into oval, like, yeah, okay, I will, I will.
- 1:08:52I'm starting to learn about having a spotter and stuff because in road racing,
- 1:08:57I can just rely on AI, but for some race in oval, I need a human spotter for me.
- 1:09:02So yeah, like building the trust to the point that you listen to the
- 1:09:08sound, you follow it right away.
- 1:09:10Like I need to reach that certain of level of trust, you
- 1:09:14know, if you know what I mean?
- 1:09:15Like, yeah, I need that.
- 1:09:19And it's maybe not always going well, but that's where.
- 1:09:21You learn from both of you right right and if you look into the replay of
- 1:09:27a big crash You can you always think like, okay, I should have gone this way.
- 1:09:31I should have do that.
- 1:09:32But yeah, it's like it's it's easy to like put like the fault on somebody else,
- 1:09:38but like Maybe maybe not immediately after when you're still like all worked
- 1:09:43up about it But maybe a day later or something look at it and just really look.
- 1:09:47Okay, you know I have done something better.
- 1:09:51Even, even if you might be made, sorry, if you might've been even like
- 1:09:57in the right to move up and the other person was doing something wrong,
- 1:10:01but maybe you could have seen that.
- 1:10:03And maybe it wasn't like the right move from the other person, but you
- 1:10:06could have avoided the wreck there.
- 1:10:08That's also something to learn, because at the end of the day, if you're
- 1:10:12right or not, if you crash out, it doesn't matter because you crashed out.
- 1:10:17So.
- 1:10:18It happened.
- 1:10:19Like, yeah, it already happened.
- 1:10:20Like, you already crashed.
- 1:10:21And I think for me, like, I barely put a blame on someone else if
- 1:10:28something bad happened in the race.
- 1:10:29But I focus more on On what could I've done in this situation?
- 1:10:35Like I look into the replay, I focus on, okay, this is the crash.
- 1:10:40I should have gone that way.
- 1:10:41Like I'm focusing on what can I do better in the next race?
- 1:10:45Instead of like putting someone like pointing finger on someone, like it's
- 1:10:49your fault, I'm reporting you like that.
- 1:10:52You know, like I'm, Oh, I'm more like, yeah.
- 1:10:54Okay.
- 1:10:55Next time I'll do better for this.
- 1:10:57No, you know what?
- 1:10:58It's fine.
- 1:10:59You know?
- 1:11:01And by the way, Nina, like we are talking about having a spotter,
- 1:11:06winning the race and everything, right?
- 1:11:10Like, yeah, we all know that you're the winner, back to back winner.
- 1:11:14And also like, yeah, you managed to be in the top 15 in the Formula Woman.
- 1:11:19Speaking of your dream goal, you want to be in the Nurburgring 24.
- 1:11:25Which car do you want to drive?
- 1:11:26If you get a chance, driving in real life.
- 1:11:31Anything.
- 1:11:32Yeah, well, most people would probably go for like the GT3s or something.
- 1:11:37But actually, I would love to drive the Dacia Logan.
- 1:11:42I don't know, it's like, it's such a cool concept to be like in like, the
- 1:11:48slowest or like one of the slowest cars.
- 1:11:51I don't know, I just like, I really enjoy like, low powered cars because
- 1:11:55with, you know, With cars that have, like, amazing horsepower and everything.
- 1:11:59Right.
- 1:11:59If you, if you mess up your corner, and you step on the gas on the
- 1:12:03exit, you're already, like, quick.
- 1:12:05Massively.
- 1:12:07Um, but if you're in a slow car, with, like, just very little Low power.
- 1:12:13Oh no.
- 1:12:16It is quite Yeah, are we are we fine I think I think we are fine so
- 1:12:22for a bit It's like okay on my end the stream just started to buffer.
- 1:12:25So I wasn't sure Yeah, as I said like in the in the fast car if you go on throttle
- 1:12:32you're immediately fast again But in the slower car, it's really important that
- 1:12:37you keep your line smooth and effective to get all the speed like throughout
- 1:12:42the corner So you're not slow on exit because then this just like amplifies.
- 1:12:48And to me that's like a special kind of challenge to just have
- 1:12:51like a slower ish car and trying to preserve the speed during a corner.
- 1:12:57Instead of just like having insane amounts of power.
- 1:13:00I mean, you still have to do the same thing, but like in slow cars,
- 1:13:04at least for like the start, that's kind of like That sounds really cool.
- 1:13:09And also you're on the same track as the big guys, you know, so how
- 1:13:13cool must it be if you're already sending your car down there and going
- 1:13:18as fast as you can and then there's just like gt3 is just flying past.
- 1:13:23That must be insane.
- 1:13:26Yeah.
- 1:13:26Oh, I get what you mean now.
- 1:13:29Yep.
- 1:13:30Because it's quite new to me, like to listen to, like I'm doing this interview,
- 1:13:35like Quite some time and then like yeah, you know, like some people want to
- 1:13:39drive the fast car wanna be f1 and Now I have you here and saying that yeah,
- 1:13:45I would like to drive a slow car Yeah like I mean there are plenty of cool
- 1:13:50cars, you know, of course the gt4 class is amazing, especially like the Um the
- 1:13:55team that um by skill from yesterday is in actually like the the girls only
- 1:14:00team It's a team that i've like watched like all the years and everything.
- 1:14:05It's it's just um It's so cool to see that like a girls only team, you
- 1:14:09know, drivers are all females, all the mechanics are girls and everything.
- 1:14:13So obviously that would be a dream as well to be in that team and to not, to
- 1:14:18like just be visible for, for all the women out there to inspire them maybe
- 1:14:25to, yes, you can do racing as a girl.
- 1:14:28And that is obviously also something that screen to speed does to really like.
- 1:14:35Show anyone to be like, hey, you can do sim racing as a woman.
- 1:14:41There's nothing against it.
- 1:14:42You can absolutely do it.
- 1:14:43You can race as a girl.
- 1:14:46It's, it's not a boys exclusive club.
- 1:14:48And yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:50So I, I really, I'm happy if I even manage one person, um, if I can change
- 1:14:56one person's mind in that sense.
- 1:14:59Right.
- 1:14:59Yeah, that's what we want to do.
- 1:15:02Like, you know, I know that there are female sim racers like we are not the
- 1:15:06only two or the only 20 girls in this world who does sim racing, but I feel
- 1:15:12like it's kind of hard to meet up with other girls, especially if you're
- 1:15:17doing official session in iRacing.
- 1:15:19You're not gonna lie.
- 1:15:20Like, most of the time I'm the only one.
- 1:15:23Like the only girl on the track.
- 1:15:25So, it's kinda hard to find another female sim racer.
- 1:15:29Like, yeah.
- 1:15:30So, I'm so happy to have Screen2Speed.
- 1:15:32Like, yeah.
- 1:15:33We meet a lot of wonderful girls on the track.
- 1:15:36Or even like in the race.
- 1:15:37Like, you know.
- 1:15:39It's a really cool community.
- 1:15:42And, um, especially when I was doing all my, like on iRacing you have
- 1:15:46like the different license classes.
- 1:15:48Yeah.
- 1:15:48Or like safety rating for all the different types of racing, right?
- 1:15:52Right.
- 1:15:53So at some point I was like, hey, it would be cool to have a license in every class.
- 1:15:57So I set myself that goal and also like reached it.
- 1:15:59But, um, especially in disciplines like, um, dirt ovals, it is.
- 1:16:07Apparently incredibly rare to have like girls in there So, um, I was always like
- 1:16:13the kind of like standout account in those lobbies And I haven't done much
- 1:16:18like dirt oval since then to be honest.
- 1:16:20I should I should do that again It was quite fun I did a lot of
- 1:16:24there was a moment where I did a lot of dirt oval and I don't even
- 1:16:28know like I didn't I literally just realized at the start of season two.
- 1:16:32Like how did I get Uh, promoted to C class, like I barely do the dirt.
- 1:16:37Awful.
- 1:16:37But dirt awful is so fun.
- 1:16:39Like you are like staring.
- 1:16:41Yeah.
- 1:16:42It can be quite fun.
- 1:16:42Like your will is like more to the right.
- 1:16:44Like you're turning, you're turning.
- 1:16:46Yeah.
- 1:16:47I mean it's, I mean it's, it, it's kind of like drifting in a sense.
- 1:16:51Yeah.
- 1:16:51That's how I feel.
- 1:16:52I also enjoy drifting a lot on a set of coa as like a way of like winding down.
- 1:16:57Sometimes if like a race can go my way or something, I turn on a set of
- 1:17:00coa and just like drift from there.
- 1:17:04And that's kind of my, my way of like, just relaxing.
- 1:17:07I'm, you know, again, I'm like, okay at drifting, but I'm not like,
- 1:17:12um, drift pro, you know, I can, uh, I can do like 360 entries now.
- 1:17:17So like, I guess I'm all.
- 1:17:18It can
- 1:17:30do with their cars.
- 1:17:31It's, um, racing is so beautiful because you have all these
- 1:17:35different types of disciplines.
- 1:17:36Yeah.
- 1:17:38Every discipline has its own beauty to it.
- 1:17:41If it's rally or drifting or drag racing or circuit racing, ovals,
- 1:17:46anything has something special.
- 1:17:48So that's pretty cool.
- 1:17:50Yep.
- 1:17:51That's how I see like, yeah, in road racing, you want to go fast.
- 1:17:55That's how I feel and then in awful you want to survive the race But when
- 1:18:00you talk about drifting, it's drifting is more like art instead of like going
- 1:18:05fast It's like a total different thing.
- 1:18:08I would I would argue that both is a type of art because To go faster
- 1:18:15on the track also requires your car to be very stable and um to just
- 1:18:24do it like to this like perfection.
- 1:18:26Obviously the best example to that is Formula One because they are like
- 1:18:31so close to the edge and like so like perfect every single corner.
- 1:18:36And there's also a beauty to that it's a it's a different type of
- 1:18:42kind maybe because drifting is also like to the, to the centimeter,
- 1:18:49like next to walls all the time.
- 1:18:52So close here and so close there.
- 1:18:54So it's not all too different in that sense.
- 1:18:58If you want to call it art, it's just a different kind of art.
- 1:19:02Like the one is maybe like classical painting and the other one is,
- 1:19:06um, expressionism or something.
- 1:19:08I don't know my art too well.
- 1:19:10So I think that, I think that works that way.
- 1:19:13That's, that's a good point.
- 1:19:14Cause Yeah, I mean, you, not like you change my mind, but you give
- 1:19:19me like a new perspective speaking about art in racing, like, hmm.
- 1:19:24That's, that's, that's a good point, right?
- 1:19:27So And also, especially like if you're doing wheel to wheel
- 1:19:30racing, you know, overtaking is also a form of art, obviously.
- 1:19:34Yeah, I love watching the long battle, like, you know, battle in every corner.
- 1:19:39I think I saw that between you and Bianca, I think.
- 1:19:42We had a lot of those and it was so much fun because also after, after a while with
- 1:19:48Bianca, I knew that I could trust her.
- 1:19:51Like she's also a really good driver.
- 1:19:53So I know that I can make it tight and I can like give her, her space, just
- 1:20:00her space and not a centimeter more.
- 1:20:02I really have this very close racing.
- 1:20:05And And, um, that made for some great onboards.
- 1:20:09I still have, like, I think all of the replays saved.
- 1:20:12So, um, there are, like, a lot of scenes where we are, like, centimeters
- 1:20:18apart through a high speed corner.
- 1:20:21And we both knew exactly where the other one is and how much we can,
- 1:20:24like, push them or can't push them.
- 1:20:27So that was really, really fun.
- 1:20:29That is so satisfying to watch.
- 1:20:31Like.
- 1:20:32I, I'm the one like making and editing for the clips on screen to speed it down.
- 1:20:37So I was like looking into your battle, there was like a really like
- 1:20:42hard battle between you and Bianca.
- 1:20:45Well, it didn't end up well, if, uh, if I'm not mistaken, as in like,
- 1:20:50not like well, well, well, but.
- 1:20:52The battle was so satisfying to watch.
- 1:20:56Yeah, I mean, obviously like you have like incidents here and there and like there
- 1:21:00are absolutely no hard feelings, you know.
- 1:21:02Um, like I, at some point, like I think one time I got spawned by her, but I
- 1:21:08watched it back and I was like, hey, okay.
- 1:21:10It was a slight mistake, but I can absolutely see why you went for this gap.
- 1:21:14So like absolutely no hard feelings at all.
- 1:21:17Right, right.
- 1:21:17Um, It was, it was still like so much fun.
- 1:21:21Yeah.
- 1:21:21And um, yeah, and the fact that he finally can't way to do that again in
- 1:21:25like the next bit more build the trust.
- 1:21:27I know, right?
- 1:21:27Like the fact that you're building the trust between, there's like a
- 1:21:31level of trust between you and Bianca to the point that you guys can like,
- 1:21:36having that long battle all the way throughout the season, you know, like,
- 1:21:40I'm really looking forward to see you.
- 1:21:43Racing in the next screen to speed like I want to see and maybe I will
- 1:21:46join depends on the schedule, of course, and I really hope that we're
- 1:21:51gonna use another GR86 because I like driving that car in iRacing.
- 1:21:56Yeah, it's a really fun car.
- 1:21:58Again, it's low power.
- 1:22:01You know, yeah, and you and you have to really like get the speed
- 1:22:06throughout the corner to be fast.
- 1:22:08Uh huh.
- 1:22:08Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:09Yeah.
- 1:22:09Yeah.
- 1:22:10Yeah.
- 1:22:10And that's what I enjoy like, um, and it's quite anyone can drive.
- 1:22:14I say anyone, but like, Driving fast in a straight line isn't all
- 1:22:19that difficult, but being fast throughout the corner, that's where
- 1:22:24like the beauty for me personally.
- 1:22:26Yeah, I did a lot of drive in.
- 1:22:29I think for my road racing mostly I did F4, GR86, and Porsche Cup.
- 1:22:35Like.
- 1:22:36Those, those are three cars that I drive in route, but mostly
- 1:22:39I drive the GR86 because yeah, again, that car is not as quick as,
- 1:22:45especially the super formula car.
- 1:22:47But I realized that when I made a mistake with that car, with the GR86, I got
- 1:22:53time to like, you know, more time to react to the situation and to fix it.
- 1:22:59Like, I don't know, because sometimes with a fast car, if
- 1:23:02you're too fast, you got panic.
- 1:23:03You will spun, touch the wall, something like that.
- 1:23:06Um, yeah, like it's, um, in general, formula cars are just overall a
- 1:23:13bit harder to catch due to the nature of what the cars are.
- 1:23:17But, um, I also really, every time I drive a formula car and every time I spin or
- 1:23:26something, um, I always try to catch it.
- 1:23:29And I think it's also one of these things that's really important to just learn.
- 1:23:33Like if you spin out, don't just like let go of the wheel and be like, Oh, I
- 1:23:37spun and whatever, but try to recover it.
- 1:23:39Try to build that muscle memory of how to catch even formula cars.
- 1:23:45And also very importantly, how to keep it out of the wall, because
- 1:23:50if you're ever doing real life racing and you're going to end up in
- 1:23:55situations that you can't control.
- 1:23:57That's part of racing.
- 1:23:58But in these moments, it doesn't matter, you're already losing time.
- 1:24:03So, that's out the window.
- 1:24:05But, it's important to not lose the car as well.
- 1:24:09To really not hit anything with the car.
- 1:24:12And, um, that is actually one thing.
- 1:24:17that I was very happy about, like, practicing when I
- 1:24:20did the F4 test in Zolder.
- 1:24:22Because after, like, pushing the car more and more, I did get a spin into turn one,
- 1:24:27one of the fastest points of the track.
- 1:24:30And I, for like half a second, like, going backwards at like, you're just
- 1:24:35doing like, what was it, 160 or something?
- 1:24:39And you're just like, um, suddenly you're backwards in a formula car.
- 1:24:43That was kind of scary, but then also like, Um, my brain went
- 1:24:47like, Hey, you can catch this.
- 1:24:49You practice for this.
- 1:24:50And then like my muscle memory set in and I whipped it around again,
- 1:24:54did like a beautiful 360 and just kept it on track and just continued.
- 1:24:58I didn't even stop.
- 1:24:59But like, yeah, it's really helpful to practice those things.
- 1:25:04Practicing the car control is like really important.
- 1:25:08I think I learned that from driving the oval car, because especially I did a lot
- 1:25:12of race in the Arco and that car is like.
- 1:25:15You know Arca in iRacing, what's gonna happen in the crash.
- 1:25:19I learned a lot about car control and I reached the point like,
- 1:25:25okay, it's about to crash, but you know, I can, I can catch it.
- 1:25:29I can do countersteer.
- 1:25:30I can keep this car out of the wall.
- 1:25:33So yeah, practicing the car control is really important rather than
- 1:25:37just focusing on going fast, scoring a perfect lap time, like yeah.
- 1:25:42Practice for when something bad happened, because at some point you will
- 1:25:47have that moment coming to your life.
- 1:25:49Like, yeah, you will crash, like you will spin and you have to catch it.
- 1:25:54Don't break your car.
- 1:25:56Yes, Sophie.
- 1:25:57I mean, if we break the car in real life, I don't know how much we need to pay.
- 1:26:00Like in simulator, if we crash, we can hit the escape button back to the garage.
- 1:26:06But yeah, and yeah, I mean, do you?
- 1:26:11build your muscle memory through the sim racing.
- 1:26:15Like you're doing a lot of sim racing driving and like you have that experience.
- 1:26:22Then when that happened in real life, you have that muscle memory in your head,
- 1:26:27like, this is how you catch the car.
- 1:26:28This is how you catch the spin.
- 1:26:31Does it, does the sim racing like really helps you to develop that muscle memory?
- 1:26:37Yeah, definitely.
- 1:26:38Um, so.
- 1:26:41Yeah, it's just like a good way of, um, knowing how the car will
- 1:26:46react or like the type of car.
- 1:26:48It's, it's different if you have like a street car, also like if you have
- 1:26:52front wheel drive or rear wheel drive.
- 1:26:54But in general, practicing these like, yeah, how to keep a car
- 1:26:58out of the wall is definitely applicable in real life as well.
- 1:27:01Appliable in real life as well.
- 1:27:03That's amazing to hear.
- 1:27:05So, I mean, I drive a lot in Oval.
- 1:27:08I know this car spin a lot, so I should have that muscle
- 1:27:12memory in my head right now.
- 1:27:16Oh my god.
- 1:27:16But the difference is like in real life you have that fear
- 1:27:20factor and you felt afraid.
- 1:27:23Like you were afraid for a split second when you were backwards, right?
- 1:27:28Um, yeah, I mean, it's It's not a sense.
- 1:27:33It wasn't a sense of like being like scared for like being hurt or something
- 1:27:39because like I always say like If I'm especially in like a formula
- 1:27:44car with like all the straps on and everything to me personally, that's
- 1:27:48the safest place on earth Because like the chassis is literally made for I
- 1:27:53don't know going into a wall at 200 kilometers an hour so I I wasn't scared
- 1:27:59about, like, being hurt too much.
- 1:28:02Um, but I was kind of just like, Oh, I can't mess this up because, like,
- 1:28:07this is, like, my time to, like, show what I can do behind a wheel.
- 1:28:12And, um, crashing the car would obviously have been, like,
- 1:28:16the worst possible outcome.
- 1:28:18Yep, I bet.
- 1:28:20Yeah, it doesn't give you a good impression.
- 1:28:22Yeah, so like I, I sadly do know what breaking carbon fiber sounds like.
- 1:28:28I did, um, I did crash like the front wing of our Formula Student car once.
- 1:28:33Um, luckily it was only the front wing and it was already damaged before I did it.
- 1:28:39Right.
- 1:28:39So, um, we would have needed a new part anyway.
- 1:28:42Yeah.
- 1:28:43So I got away with like a blue eye kind of.
- 1:28:46But like, um.
- 1:28:49Yeah, so, uh, I don't know if that's a saying, actually.
- 1:28:52If you get away with the blue eye.
- 1:28:53That's a German saying.
- 1:28:54That is a German saying.
- 1:28:55We should ask Sharon, I guess.
- 1:28:57Sharon.
- 1:28:58Yeah, it kind of means that, like, it's, something happened, but,
- 1:29:02like, you didn't break anything.
- 1:29:04Yeah, at least you, look on the bright side.
- 1:29:06At least we didn't break anything, I guess.
- 1:29:09Yeah, actually.
- 1:29:10Wait.
- 1:29:11Oh, I'll just, I'll just get something.
- 1:29:14Okay.
- 1:29:14Oh, I wonder what she's going to show us.
- 1:29:17Anyway.
- 1:29:18Hello, chat.
- 1:29:19Welcome to AmyTalk.
- 1:29:20I know the connection is bad.
- 1:29:23I forgot that I still have this.
- 1:29:24What?
- 1:29:26The wing?
- 1:29:27What?
- 1:29:28Is that the front wing that you, uh, that you're Yes, that is, that is the
- 1:29:31front wing that I, that I broke in half.
- 1:29:33Oh, wow.
- 1:29:34I think you can see it.
- 1:29:35But it's really cool.
- 1:29:37Yeah, it's really light.
- 1:29:39Is it?
- 1:29:41Yeah, it's like actual carbon fiber.
- 1:29:44Oh, wait, I think I have that.
- 1:29:45Wait, wait.
- 1:29:46I'm gonna show you.
- 1:29:47Guys, be right back, guys.
- 1:29:48Wanna show her something?
- 1:29:49I have a couple of like, um, carbon fiber parts laying around from my time.
- 1:29:53So this is another, uh, flap.
- 1:29:55Oh, wow.
- 1:29:57That is really cool.
- 1:29:58Here's what I wanted to show you.
- 1:29:59Unidirectional carbon.
- 1:30:00And then on here it's like forged carbon that we did on that ear.
- 1:30:04Wow.
- 1:30:05That is really cool.
- 1:30:07You have, uh, you have a front wing and I got this one from the NASCAR.
- 1:30:14Alright, show me.
- 1:30:15This one.
- 1:30:17Oh, oh, that's cool.
- 1:30:19That is, this is from the Xfinity car.
- 1:30:22So, my friend worked as a mechanic in a NASCAR team, NASCAR Xfinity team.
- 1:30:27And then, I think one of his car crashed.
- 1:30:32Okay, I give you a little piece of NASCAR.
- 1:30:34I was like, oh, thank you.
- 1:30:35But this looking really cool.
- 1:30:37I like to collect like this part of the car.
- 1:30:40This part of the car, like every time I see someone crash on the track, I
- 1:30:43will start like collecting this part.
- 1:30:47That's really cool.
- 1:30:48Yeah.
- 1:30:49Yes.
- 1:30:50Sharon, like look at Nina, like she even still has the front.
- 1:30:57I see someone that has like a complete front bumper in, in his
- 1:31:02gaming room, something like that.
- 1:31:03And I was like, yo, where did you get that?
- 1:31:06I need that one too for my gaming room.
- 1:31:11Oh, well, no, but that was really cool.
- 1:31:14Like, not gonna lie.
- 1:31:14I didn't expect to see that in two days in a talk like in two days.
- 1:31:20I didn't expect to see a front wing.
- 1:31:23Yeah.
- 1:31:23But like, to come back to the topic, like, um, when I, when I was spinning,
- 1:31:28I was like, really just like, um, I hoping not to crash it because like Yeah.
- 1:31:33The sound of you being in a car and being the reason why the car
- 1:31:38crashed is like a terrible feeling.
- 1:31:41Like that was, it was really like, uh, it's absolutely like gutting
- 1:31:45because you feel like you let not only yourself down, but like the whole team.
- 1:31:50Right.
- 1:31:51And, um, yeah, so crashing is really like a, a thing to avoid at any cost.
- 1:31:57So at any cost.
- 1:31:57Right, right.
- 1:31:59Don't crash.
- 1:32:00Yeah, Sofie and everyone, don't crash in real life.
- 1:32:03Like, yeah, because you have the whole team working.
- 1:32:07Well, sometimes, you know, yeah, but if you still can save
- 1:32:11it, you have to save your car.
- 1:32:14Yeah, because, yeah, it takes the whole team to build the car for your
- 1:32:19race weekend, something like that.
- 1:32:20So, yeah.
- 1:32:21It's a team sport.
- 1:32:24I just realized about that.
- 1:32:25Yeah.
- 1:32:25Lately because when I I'm quite newbie here in sim racing, but at the start I
- 1:32:30feel like I can do this by myself You know, like I can do this by myself.
- 1:32:34It's a it's a solo race.
- 1:32:36It's okay You know, you don't need a team, but the more I get into it I realized
- 1:32:41that there's like engineering involved in this or you have spotter you have
- 1:32:45mechanic you have everyone you have pit crew So it's teamwork instead of like
- 1:32:50doing it solo So it's like something that I realized lately, like the more I
- 1:32:57get into it, I see like the whole team working together to build the car for you.
- 1:33:02So when you win, you win as a team.
- 1:33:05When you lose, he also like everyone take the loose together.
- 1:33:09So I think that's the beauty of racing that I just realized.
- 1:33:15I guess like we are in this together.
- 1:33:20I never broke a cool car, so I don't have a souvenir.
- 1:33:27You know, it's also probably good that you didn't break one because
- 1:33:30most of the time it's quite expensive.
- 1:33:33I bet like, yeah, small damage can cost you a lot of money.
- 1:33:38Like even if, well, no, I must not say that, but every kind of
- 1:33:43damage cost you money as a team.
- 1:33:46Yeah.
- 1:33:48And motorsport is already, like, one of the most expensive
- 1:33:51hobbies there is, you know, so.
- 1:33:53I realize that, like, yeah.
- 1:33:56I check on the price, like, if I want to get karting competitively,
- 1:34:00like, okay, where's the step?
- 1:34:02Where is the next one?
- 1:34:03And I look into this page on the internet, and they're giving you, like,
- 1:34:08The detail about what do you need to pay to get into karting competitively
- 1:34:13and it already starts to get pricey even on the karting level so I cannot
- 1:34:17imagine like in GT class or even in Formula like, well, that's all up.
- 1:34:23So, yeah.
- 1:34:27It can happen.
- 1:34:28I had a little panic moment due to my disability.
- 1:34:30I apologized to the team.
- 1:34:33When you got released from the hospital.
- 1:34:34I still have the onboard video.
- 1:34:36Not great to watch.
- 1:34:37Oh my God.
- 1:34:37If you don't mind sharing it with us, sharing it with us, Yvonne, you can
- 1:34:42share, but I bet it's not a great feeling.
- 1:34:45I mean, Yvonne already had her talk, right?
- 1:34:50Yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:50The first episode.
- 1:34:51The first one.
- 1:34:52Yeah.
- 1:34:54Yeah, the first, I wasn't sure if it was like the first or um, if I was mistaken,
- 1:34:57but like Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:59VO was the first, first, second Victoria.
- 1:35:01And you are the third . The third guest here.
- 1:35:05Yeah.
- 1:35:06Yeah.
- 1:35:06And like also by the way, since we're had it, thanks for
- 1:35:09having me, like of course's.
- 1:35:10So fun.
- 1:35:11So, um, I'm glad, really enjoying it here, so, uh, fun.
- 1:35:15I really enjoy having with you.
- 1:35:18I'm learning a lot from your experience and you know, like you explained
- 1:35:22it to me, like starting in front and starting from the back, it has
- 1:35:26its own challenge, which I mostly start from the middle of the pack.
- 1:35:30So my gameplay is different than yours.
- 1:35:32Of course, like, if you start in front, the strategy is different than when you're
- 1:35:37starting in the mid part of the grid.
- 1:35:39Yeah.
- 1:35:40You give me a vision about.
- 1:35:44Okay, this is what's gonna happen if you start from the back.
- 1:35:46I was like, huh, yep, that is right.
- 1:35:50I feel like after I'm having this talk with people, this in a talk
- 1:35:53with people, I feel like I'm 20 percent smarter every week I got.
- 1:35:58Yeah.
- 1:35:58I mean, every, every day you should learn a little thing.
- 1:36:01That's, that's how I try to do life, you know, every day learn a little thing and
- 1:36:05that's just going to make you better.
- 1:36:07Yeah.
- 1:36:08I mean, one step at a time, I think.
- 1:36:10Yeah, definitely.
- 1:36:12And, yeah, the speed will come, the wind will come, and, yeah.
- 1:36:17It's actually, like, for me, I'm also in a weird spot in sim racing
- 1:36:20currently, where, um, I do mostly Formula Fours, and I'm usually, like,
- 1:36:27almost always, I'm in top split.
- 1:36:29Um, so, I'm, I'm decent, but, like, I'm usually not really,
- 1:36:36like, fighting for the win.
- 1:36:38So I don't, I don't remember when the last time was that I won an official race.
- 1:36:44It's been forever.
- 1:36:46It's been forever, right.
- 1:36:48Yeah, actually, like, I also don't do that many, um, officials currently.
- 1:36:54I often do, like, league races and that kind of thing, but
- 1:36:57not really a lot of officials.
- 1:36:59But that's also one thing that I sometimes have to remind myself
- 1:37:03about, is that I do it for fun.
- 1:37:05And, um, if you lose the fun, then you also, like, drive bad.
- 1:37:09You know, if you, if you, if you just go in there and be like, Oh, I don't
- 1:37:13know, quote unquote, only P5 again or something, then that's just really
- 1:37:19not going to be great for the future.
- 1:37:21Because if you think about it, if there are 20 people, then you
- 1:37:25were faster than 15 other people, which is a great achievement.
- 1:37:31But as a racer, I feel like you often tend to like, look at the people ahead.
- 1:37:37Obviously, you know, like overtake the next car and then the next and
- 1:37:40then the next, even though you're already overtook 10 cars, maybe.
- 1:37:44And you need to like actively really cherish those moments as well.
- 1:37:50Of course, there's room for improvement, but you're already doing
- 1:37:53well if you if you finish fifth.
- 1:37:56Right.
- 1:37:57So no matter where you finish, it's already a progress of of you
- 1:38:01learning things here in sim racing.
- 1:38:03And also like, yeah.
- 1:38:05Finish the race.
- 1:38:06I think Even even my friend.
- 1:38:09Um, he's a real race car driver and he won a race in sonoma last year and
- 1:38:13kota I think I forgot or probably nola new orleans So I asked him like you
- 1:38:20working in a team like you are the driver of a race car race car team do
- 1:38:25is Um your boss or your team principal like expecting you to win every race.
- 1:38:31That's the question that I asked And he told me like No, that's not how it goes.
- 1:38:37You know, your job as a driver is to drive and finish the race.
- 1:38:40That's your job as a driver.
- 1:38:43So, I mean, it's good if you can win it, but that's not the, that's not like the,
- 1:38:51or how you like measure yourself in a race or measure your performance, because yeah,
- 1:38:57as long as you finish the race, it's fine.
- 1:39:00There is like always room for improvement.
- 1:39:01So yeah, I try to get better next time.
- 1:39:03Finish the race, try to finish better and keep on doing it.
- 1:39:07So yeah, I guess you're right.
- 1:39:10Like, yeah.
- 1:39:11Even if you finish fifth among 20 people, it's, it's a high, it's a high point, I
- 1:39:17guess, like being the top five, right?
- 1:39:22Definitely.
- 1:39:22Yeah.
- 1:39:24The next car is the next car behind you.
- 1:39:29Right.
- 1:39:30Oh, by the way, I just realized that we almost two hours got into this
- 1:39:34talk, but I didn't feel like it's been two hours, almost two hours
- 1:39:38because I really enjoy like having this talk with you and listening to
- 1:39:43how you passionate about this thing.
- 1:39:45Like, that's the beauty of it.
- 1:39:47Thank you.
- 1:39:48Yeah, I mean, I'm always like, always.
- 1:39:52feel so, um, passionate when I, when I get to talk about these things because,
- 1:39:57um, in like real life, okay, I have like kind of my friends and everything, but,
- 1:40:02um, it's, yeah, sim racing is kind of a niche hobby at the end of the day.
- 1:40:08So to, to have the chance and to really like Talk about this like openly and like
- 1:40:14have people in chat who are interested.
- 1:40:17So thanks for everyone stopping by by the way it's just such a cool
- 1:40:21opportunity to really like share these moments with others and Yeah And I
- 1:40:28think we are down to the last question Speaking about this any thoughts.
- 1:40:34I have a very very important question to ask for you
- 1:40:40Are you ready?
- 1:40:41Are you ready?
- 1:40:42Yeah.
- 1:40:43So speaking about the dream team.
- 1:40:47Congratulations for making to the dream team.
- 1:40:50Yay.
- 1:40:50And you'll be competing in the VCO.
- 1:40:53So we are talking about the competition.
- 1:40:56Like, yeah, you're winning.
- 1:40:57You are battling with people and something like that.
- 1:41:01Okay.
- 1:41:02And now that you are, you'll be competing in the VCO.
- 1:41:05In the VCO infinity and you are in the team full of female sim racer.
- 1:41:10How do you feel about it?
- 1:41:13Yeah, it's it's really cool.
- 1:41:14Like I can't wait.
- 1:41:15It's gonna be probably a huge challenge.
- 1:41:18It's Like the field is gonna be like very tough.
- 1:41:21Um But I'm gonna try my best and as soon as like we know
- 1:41:26finally like the tracks as well.
- 1:41:28We already know the cars But I um, I can't wait to know about the the tracks
- 1:41:34so I can really start like practicing Specifically the stuff that I need to
- 1:41:39be practicing for this event, right?
- 1:41:42And yeah, maybe should I maybe give like a short rundown to
- 1:41:45everyone who doesn't know about it?
- 1:41:47Yeah, sure share it with us Okay, so it's called the VCO Infinity, um, and it's
- 1:41:55a 24 hour event with 24 races in there.
- 1:41:59So each race is about like an hour, I think like 45 minutes
- 1:42:03with like quali in between and that kind of stuff or something.
- 1:42:06But in general, it's 24 hours of racing with one race each hour of
- 1:42:12like, um, there are five different cars and five different tracks.
- 1:42:16And then you just have the combination of those, so you have, um, the, the
- 1:42:20MX5 Cup, the IndyCar, the NASCAR Xfinity, the Ferrari GT3, and the
- 1:42:28Super Formula Light as cars, and then five tracks that we don't know yet.
- 1:42:34Yeah.
- 1:42:35But, uh, yeah.
- 1:42:36Then you're gonna have these cars on all of these tracks, switching every hour.
- 1:42:42So, yeah, come and watch it.
- 1:42:44It's going to be entertaining.
- 1:42:45It's going to be very, like, different each time you're going to tune in.
- 1:42:49And, yeah, it's going to be quite the challenge to, um, switch between all
- 1:42:54these cars and tracks back and forth.
- 1:42:57So every driver in the team has to drive, I think, at least two cars.
- 1:43:01So, yeah, um, can't wait for it.
- 1:43:06Good luck with that, Nina.
- 1:43:07And yes, Yvonne, you've got this, Nina.
- 1:43:10Yes, both of you girls, you've got this.
- 1:43:13Okay.
- 1:43:14I'll be, I'll be hanging on the chat, like, see how you
- 1:43:17girls are doing in the track.
- 1:43:19I'm wishing you all the best, but again, don't forget to have fun.
- 1:43:24Like, enjoy.
- 1:43:26We'll be meeting a lot of like top team, I believe.
- 1:43:28Yeah.
- 1:43:29And it's also, it's also, um, I don't, I don't think we're going to
- 1:43:33be like anywhere close to the win.
- 1:43:35Um, but that's also not really the goal here, in my opinion, ties into like the,
- 1:43:41um, what we just talked about, like a P5 and 20 people, like a 20 car race.
- 1:43:46It's also great achievement.
- 1:43:48Um, I think it's like a very great thing to just show off.
- 1:43:53That, um, we as like a girls team, like we're there and, um, to
- 1:43:59anyone who might be watching it.
- 1:44:01It's like, like a great opportunity to just show off this
- 1:44:05whole community and everything.
- 1:44:07To show everyone like, hey, um, if you are a girl interested in racing, you
- 1:44:13can, you can join this and you can, you can be part of this community.
- 1:44:17And you don't have to, like, be all alone in, like, uh, a big community
- 1:44:22of, like, a lot of, like, men and boys.
- 1:44:24Right.
- 1:44:25But, like, there are, um, other girls as well.
- 1:44:28You just have to know where to look, kind of.
- 1:44:29Where to look.
- 1:44:30Right, right.
- 1:44:32I mean, yeah, we are here.
- 1:44:34Girls, we are here.
- 1:44:35So all you need to do is just join our Discord and hang out with us.
- 1:44:39And yeah, come race with us sometimes in the screen to speed.
- 1:44:43Cause we, well, we are planning to have more event in different sims.
- 1:44:48So it's not just gonna be in iRacing or Gran Turismo.
- 1:44:52We really hope that we can cover a lot of games.
- 1:44:54So, you know, like we can meet a lot of girls, new girls joining the community.
- 1:45:00I really hope that we will have another event in iRacing and also
- 1:45:05possibly in ACC or even Forza.
- 1:45:08Like, we want to have it, like, everywhere because, yeah, like, we are everywhere.
- 1:45:13And it's, um, you know, like, sometimes some girls playing in other games
- 1:45:18and, you know, like, it's our, uh, not like our, um, Our is not like
- 1:45:26responsibility, but we want to see you like we want to meet all of you.
- 1:45:31It doesn't matter which game you play.
- 1:45:33So yeah, if you, if any one of you here in the chat know that you
- 1:45:38have friends or family and yeah, she likes to play sim racing.
- 1:45:44Go invite her to the screen to speak so we can meet each other.
- 1:45:48Cause it's a different feeling when you're battling with your friends.
- 1:45:52With your friends like yeah, okay For example, like Nina Nina been driving
- 1:45:56with Bianca to the point that she can trust her like, okay I give you space but
- 1:46:00not too much just enough for you But no feeling on it like you practice battle.
- 1:46:06So I think that's the one of the Benefit of getting into a league race I'm I must
- 1:46:12say like you you racing with same person same people over and over to the point
- 1:46:17that You You're building your racecraft, you're building the thrust, you learn
- 1:46:22about how to battle throughout the race.
- 1:46:24Cause normally in official session, because you're racing with strangers,
- 1:46:28let's say, like someone that you don't know, you haven't met before,
- 1:46:32you have that, you know, like you have to predict where he's about
- 1:46:36to go or something like that.
- 1:46:39Meanwhile, like when you are, when you were like having a battle with Bianca, you
- 1:46:43were like, yeah, okay, I can trust her.
- 1:46:44We've done this many times.
- 1:46:46So that's the benefit of getting into a licorice, I would say.
- 1:46:52And by the way, um, guys, Sharon, Yvonne, we will run a real quick Q& A.
- 1:46:58So, um, if Yvonne, Sharon and, um, Charlie, everyone in the chat have
- 1:47:03a question for Nina, feel free to shoot it in the, in the chat.
- 1:47:08We are waiting.
- 1:47:10So, yeah, if you have questions, don't forget to shoot it.
- 1:47:13Don't be shy, like, just type it in the chat and we would love to answer.
- 1:47:17All right.
- 1:47:18any kind of question related to sim racing and motorsports.
- 1:47:23So I'm gonna start first, Dan.
- 1:47:25I'm gonna start first for this Q& A.
- 1:47:27If you have questions, sure.
- 1:47:29Of course, I have a lot of questions for you, actually.
- 1:47:32Okay.
- 1:47:33So.
- 1:47:33I'm here.
- 1:47:34I'm here.
- 1:47:35So if, speaking about your goal, you said that you want to be in the
- 1:47:39Nordschleife 24, the NURB 24, that's your goal, that realistically you
- 1:47:44think you can achieve in 10 years.
- 1:47:48And what's the next step after that?
- 1:47:50Like, okay, let's say you make it happen.
- 1:47:52You get into the 24 hours of nerf and yeah, so, um, think about
- 1:48:00your next plan after that one.
- 1:48:04Like after, after that race or like what are my steps to that race?
- 1:48:07Yeah, the next step after, after.
- 1:48:09Yeah.
- 1:48:10Okay.
- 1:48:11So, um, obviously what's going to be like.
- 1:48:14in the background all the time is practicing on the sim because It is a
- 1:48:19very long track and a very difficult track And that's also the beauty of it.
- 1:48:25But that also means that you need to prepare a lot so, um That's always
- 1:48:31going to be running in the background always practicing with different cars
- 1:48:34and everything on there but um I have taken like the first couple of steps
- 1:48:40with for example my race license So, um, to actually be able to race in the
- 1:48:4724 hour race there, you need like a special permit for the track, because
- 1:48:52the track is so long and difficult that everyone who wants to race there
- 1:48:56needs to do like, um, certain races to really familiarize them with the track.
- 1:49:02Right, right.
- 1:49:03The driving standards are, you know, as high as possible.
- 1:49:07Right.
- 1:49:07Because it is such a narrow and difficult track.
- 1:49:08So, you need like the Nordschleifen permit, is what it's called.
- 1:49:15Kind of like your little driver's license for that track.
- 1:49:17Oh, yeah.
- 1:49:18Uh huh.
- 1:49:18It's a special license for that track, I believe.
- 1:49:21Like, a special one.
- 1:49:22Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:49:23Like, usually you just have your race license, and then you can like, For
- 1:49:28me, it's like a national race license.
- 1:49:29So I can do like races that are within one country, you know, for example,
- 1:49:33like a German race series that only races in Germany, I can race that.
- 1:49:40But since Nordschleife is so difficult, um, a couple of years ago, they started
- 1:49:45having like a special permit for like, especially like the longer races, like
- 1:49:50the NLS and the, um, the 24 hour race.
- 1:49:54All right.
- 1:49:55So, For that I need to do like, um, I would have to read up because they also
- 1:50:00changed it over the last year or two, a little, um, so you have to do like
- 1:50:07a certain amount of laps, you have to do like I think at least two races on
- 1:50:12there within the last two years to be allowed on there, and so I would need
- 1:50:18to find a way to, yeah, to just do that, and then also, um, Ideally, I would
- 1:50:27already have, like, a reasonable shot.
- 1:50:30a race, um, like a driving position in some car for the 24 hour race at
- 1:50:38that point, because then it's like this goal that I can work towards.
- 1:50:42And yeah, obviously, like the financial aspect is also a thing.
- 1:50:46So either you're going to work with like, um, I don't like the word sponsors,
- 1:50:51but like, you know, like some companies or individuals that partner with you
- 1:50:56in some way and Like, I don't know help you with travel or Equipment or
- 1:51:02all that stuff speaking of equipment.
- 1:51:05I would need to buy.
- 1:51:06Um, My own like race suit probably and like my helmet and all that stuff.
- 1:51:11I already looked Decide on something yet because i'm just not
- 1:51:19entirely like about to race yet.
- 1:51:24Still has like a little bit of time, but it's also something that can be
- 1:51:29just like bought recent, reasonably quickly and in the worst time you can
- 1:51:33usually like borrow it from somewhere.
- 1:51:35So that's not like the biggest concern, but it's something that you also
- 1:51:38have to, to remind yourself to buy.
- 1:51:41So like, I expect that as well.
- 1:51:43So like just like all the equipment and everything would
- 1:51:45be another like two grand Around.
- 1:51:48At least, yeah, true.
- 1:51:50Um, and, and, yeah, and that's like, sort of like, not really like getting
- 1:51:54for, getting all the expensive stuff.
- 1:51:56So that's really like a moderate price point.
- 1:51:58Right.
- 1:51:59And, yeah, there are a lot of regulations with this.
- 1:52:02So, um, depending on what I'm gonna do, like what types of races, um.
- 1:52:10Right.
- 1:52:10They can already tie into like the requirements for the permit.
- 1:52:13Right.
- 1:52:13Then obviously like getting the permit would be a thing and then finding a team
- 1:52:18to race with in a 24 hour series, right?
- 1:52:21So that race that even is somewhat like your long term goal, let's say.
- 1:52:29And what about in sim racing?
- 1:52:32This is the question from Yvonne because Yvonne asking like,
- 1:52:35what do you want to achieve?
- 1:52:36What would you like to achieve more in sim racing and in real life?
- 1:52:40I guess we talk about the real life part.
- 1:52:43So what about the sim racing?
- 1:52:47Like, what do you want to achieve at least this year, for example?
- 1:52:53Well, that's a good question.
- 1:52:56Um, in sim racing, I guess, uh, like the next big thing that's on VCO Infinity.
- 1:53:05I want to do like my best there, the best that's possible.
- 1:53:09At, um, I guess also, like, the seasonal cups that are coming up is
- 1:53:15also a goal, kind of, that I would love to take part in everything.
- 1:53:21But, yeah.
- 1:53:22And apart from that, I kind of just, like, um, I want to drive officials a bit
- 1:53:27more often, because, as I said, I really don't do a lot of officials currently.
- 1:53:31And I, I kind of, I kind of want to get back into that habit and do other
- 1:53:36stuff apart from, like, league races to also just, you know, Yeah, like, get
- 1:53:41more, like, my eye rating up a little.
- 1:53:43I don't care too much about it, but, um, always, like, looking at it, I feel
- 1:53:47like, ah, it could be definitely higher if I just put some more time in it.
- 1:53:53Right.
- 1:53:53Uh, so, yeah, that's definitely a goal.
- 1:53:57I also have, like, my, um, A licenses on every, uh, Class as I said, and it
- 1:54:04would be nice to also have like the A license and but also the rating at 4.
- 1:54:0899 So that would also be a fun goal.
- 1:54:12A fun goal.
- 1:54:13So doing more officials and doing your best in Infinity so I really hope
- 1:54:19that everything will goes well in the infinity like yeah I hope like we will
- 1:54:25finish all the race like those 24 race.
- 1:54:28Yeah, definitely.
- 1:54:29I'm not giving up any of my races That's a good mentality.
- 1:54:33It doesn't matter how often I, I, I don't know.
- 1:54:35I have some problem with the car or something.
- 1:54:38Uhhuh, , I'll, I'll finish every race that I'm part of.
- 1:54:40Definitely.
- 1:54:41Yeah.
- 1:54:42That's a good mentality to f mm-Hmm.
- 1:54:44. I mean, in order to win the race first you must to, you
- 1:54:48have to finish the race, right?
- 1:54:49So yeah, to finish first you have to.
- 1:54:52Finish first.
- 1:54:54I guess it's the same.
- 1:54:54Something like that.
- 1:54:55To finish first, you have to Yeah, something like that.
- 1:54:58Yeah.
- 1:54:59Yeah, I believe that.
- 1:55:00Yeah, you have to finish.
- 1:55:01I mean, how can you win it?
- 1:55:03To finish first, you have to finish.
- 1:55:04Yeah, to finish first, you have to finish.
- 1:55:07Oh, I got it.
- 1:55:10And here's the question from Sharon.
- 1:55:14So, which thing would you like to drive if iRacing didn't exist?
- 1:55:18That's also a good question.
- 1:55:20Uh, yeah, it is a good question.
- 1:55:23Um, it probably depends on the type of driving again.
- 1:55:28So for drifting, I love Assetto Corsa.
- 1:55:32Um, I haven't tried too many of like all the different, um,
- 1:55:38stuff, at least not in detail.
- 1:55:40But for GT3 racing, I heard that ACC, so Assetto Corsa
- 1:55:46Competizione, uh, is quite good.
- 1:55:49I did play it for a couple of hours, but not to the extent that
- 1:55:52I really have an opinion on it.
- 1:55:55Uh, I think Rensport was still quite a top, but I don't know if
- 1:56:01you, if you can get in that easily.
- 1:56:04I don't know.
- 1:56:06Uh, what else is there?
- 1:56:08Uh, R Factor?
- 1:56:09I haven't really tried R Factor.
- 1:56:12So, um, I would definitely pick something that has, um, nice physics over graphics.
- 1:56:18Same as iRacing.
- 1:56:21iRacing arguably doesn't have the best graphics, but the physics
- 1:56:24are just really really good.
- 1:56:26And um, especially if you see like a huge field of cars going over a bumpy track.
- 1:56:33I always think on iRacing, the way that the cars go over bumps and like the whole
- 1:56:38way that the chassis moves and everything.
- 1:56:41It's just um, You Yeah, that's just it looks real and um, not all the other
- 1:56:48games but on some of the other games It still looks a bit like a like a game I
- 1:56:53get what you mean, especially with like iracing's new rain system Like the way
- 1:56:59that they put in the rain is just amazing.
- 1:57:01It's not just like a A slippery surface or something but it's actually like
- 1:57:05calculating where the puddles are and like all of that stuff and redistributing the
- 1:57:10water if it gets thrown out by the cars.
- 1:57:12It's like a whole weather system, not just rain, and that's also like
- 1:57:16a really really beautiful thing and I hope we're going to see more of that
- 1:57:20in the future also in other games.
- 1:57:22Yeah, I think they kind of nailed it making the rain release like yeah, it
- 1:57:27takes time for them to develop the rain I guess the rain system the weather
- 1:57:31forecast and everything, but I guess it turned out pretty well like from yeah
- 1:57:35Based from what I heard from people who drive in the rain like yeah, it's good.
- 1:57:40Like yeah, it's fun Like good fun or bad fun.
- 1:57:44Like I was like, okay fun Yeah, it depends.
- 1:57:48Yeah, but I believe You I, not like I believe, but I assume that they have
- 1:57:53like the best system for the rain so far among all the sim, probably.
- 1:57:58Yeah.
- 1:57:59Yeah.
- 1:58:00And this is the question from your boss.
- 1:58:03From the boss.
- 1:58:05So, which non German race do you want to see, and which one would
- 1:58:08you like to race in real life?
- 1:58:11Non German.
- 1:58:12Yes.
- 1:58:13Um, okay, so like, um, to see or like to watch in real life is definitely NASCAR.
- 1:58:20I want to see like, um, a race like, I don't know, something
- 1:58:23like Talladega, for example.
- 1:58:25Right.
- 1:58:26That must be insane to have like a super speedway with all these like NASCARs
- 1:58:31going there like as fast as possible.
- 1:58:33Mm hmm.
- 1:58:34It's just like, that must be insane.
- 1:58:37I really want to see that.
- 1:58:39And, um, yeah, uh, another one Which one do you wanna race in real life?
- 1:58:48Yeah, I guess it's also a non German race.
- 1:58:51Yeah.
- 1:58:51Um, yeah, that's also tricky.
- 1:58:55I feel like, like one track that I really love on iRacing is Road Atlanta.
- 1:59:03Racing, pretty much any Like if I can choose a car I would probably want
- 1:59:09to drive like a, like a prototype, like an LMP2 or LMP3 or something.
- 1:59:15Right.
- 1:59:17That sounds like so much fun.
- 1:59:19Yeah.
- 1:59:19Yeah, like, Yeah, I love the sound of the prototype, but I haven't driven
- 1:59:26it a lot in the sim, but the sound is so amazing, like really amazing.
- 1:59:31Yeah, especially in real life.
- 1:59:32I've seen them in real life at the Hockenheimring.
- 1:59:34Oh, wow.
- 1:59:36Oh, um, yeah, but they sound amazing.
- 1:59:39I would love to drive them.
- 1:59:41Like the LMP3s I saw.
- 1:59:43Yeah, you would love to drive it in real life one day.
- 1:59:46I hope you'll, you'll get a chance to drive it in real life.
- 1:59:49Like maybe I will see you in some American series.
- 1:59:52Like, I don't know.
- 1:59:54I mean, of course, if, if, if, if it would be an option, I'd love to.
- 1:59:59You will take it like, yeah.
- 2:00:03With pretty much, pretty much any series.
- 2:00:07Um.
- 2:00:08I just like, I just love racing and, um, it doesn't matter too much what
- 2:00:14types of cars it is, as long as it has four wheels and a roll cage.
- 2:00:18I love it.
- 2:00:19It's like, seem like me, like yeah, as long as it has four wheels engine
- 2:00:23actually, actually thinking about it, I'd also love to do rally.
- 2:00:27Like I feel like that could also be like plenty of fun.
- 2:00:31I don't know how well I would do.
- 2:00:34Right.
- 2:00:35I think I would be all right, but like, um.
- 2:00:38Yeah, like, I'm probably not gonna be fast.
- 2:00:42I think I'm faster on like a circuit than on rally.
- 2:00:45Mhm, right.
- 2:00:46But, um, yeah, it's, that must be crazy.
- 2:00:50Right, at some point.
- 2:00:51If you get a chance to do some rally, you will take it?
- 2:00:55Like, 10 out of 10?
- 2:00:56Yeah, probably, probably.
- 2:00:57Hm.
- 2:00:58Interesting.
- 2:00:59I would love to see you.
- 2:01:00Like, it will be a big surprise if I see you and, um, doing some
- 2:01:04really at some point, like, uh, posting a picture on Instagram.
- 2:01:07Yeah.
- 2:01:08I'll be doing really, I'll be like, okay, now what?
- 2:01:11Now she's gonna do it.
- 2:01:13Really?
- 2:01:13Yeah.
- 2:01:13Like what?
- 2:01:15It'll be like super, super.
- 2:01:16Yeah.
- 2:01:17As I, as I said earlier, like every, every single discipline
- 2:01:20has its own type of like art.
- 2:01:22Mm-Hmm.
- 2:01:22. And I just love racing.
- 2:01:25So anything has like, um.
- 2:01:28It's beauty to it.
- 2:01:29I would also love to try oval racing at some point.
- 2:01:32Mm-Hmm.
- 2:01:32. Even though that must be like quite scary, going that fast at
- 2:01:37like the edge of grip, uhhuh,
- 2:01:39Especially with the car around you.
- 2:01:41Like everybody, like very close.
- 2:01:43Yeah.
- 2:01:44I, I, yeah.
- 2:01:46It's gonna be fun.
- 2:01:47I, I just, yeah.
- 2:01:49I imagine that it must also be so much fun.
- 2:01:51Yeah.
- 2:01:52In general.
- 2:01:53That's how I feel like when I see, uh, when I went to my first, uh,
- 2:01:56NASCAR race in Las Vegas, uh, for the first screen to speed back then.
- 2:02:01I think that's the moment where I've, I'm in love with NASCAR
- 2:02:04because everybody goes so fast and they are very close to each other.
- 2:02:08And, you know, like you just hear the sound go and I
- 2:02:11think that's the reason why.
- 2:02:13And also like feeling the air that the cars like push around must be crazy.
- 2:02:17Yeah.
- 2:02:18Yeah.
- 2:02:19The TAVI race that Sharon just like said in chat.
- 2:02:23It's like a, the, um, like the East German car.
- 2:02:28Oh, from, for the unification.
- 2:02:30That was like the staple of that.
- 2:02:31Um, from race.
- 2:02:34Huh?
- 2:02:34I just heard about that.
- 2:02:35They're like cute little cars, but like, probably not the best cars, but like,
- 2:02:40it's like, yeah, you can race those.
- 2:02:43Um, sure.
- 2:02:44It's a cute car.
- 2:02:45It sounds like Plenty of fun.
- 2:02:47It's a cute car.
- 2:02:48It's like.
- 2:02:49No, it's not a mini Cooper.
- 2:02:50Did you just Google it?
- 2:02:52Yeah, I just Googled it now.
- 2:02:53It's a cute little car.
- 2:02:55And I bet it's gonna be like so much fun.
- 2:02:58Like, it can be fun driving this car.
- 2:03:00Disposable cars.
- 2:03:02Disposable cars.
- 2:03:03It's a disposable car.
- 2:03:06I just know about this, by the way, Sharon.
- 2:03:08Thank you for mentioning that now that I Googled it.
- 2:03:11And I am learning something new today.
- 2:03:14Oh, my God.
- 2:03:16Nina, by the way, I think we have to end the stream and the thoughts because
- 2:03:21it's already, um, two hours more.
- 2:03:25I mean, I would love to have more chat.
- 2:03:27Maybe we can have some, I don't know, some fun session together.
- 2:03:30So, you know, like maybe we can drive and have a chat and,
- 2:03:35you know, like we can share.
- 2:03:35Yeah, we can, we can definitely drive together at some point.
- 2:03:38Yep.
- 2:03:38That sounds fun.
- 2:03:39Let's do that.
- 2:03:39Please, please, please.
- 2:03:41Please.
- 2:03:42So the plan is once I get my sim setup ready, I'll be pretty much
- 2:03:46ready to hit the track, hit iRacing.
- 2:03:48So I send you, I've sent you a friend request on iRacing.
- 2:03:52So, you know, like, maybe like we can do some drive together
- 2:03:55and like, I can tell you like, oh yeah, we are making this lobby.
- 2:03:59So come join, come drive with us.
- 2:04:01And maybe we will have.
- 2:04:03Um, we will have, that's the point, super backup.
- 2:04:07Maybe we will have any thoughts, but this time it's not like having this kind of
- 2:04:12interview, but having this hose and the hose and the gas driving on the track.
- 2:04:17How about that?
- 2:04:21I mean, I think I'll struggle with like, um, speaking coherent sentences.
- 2:04:28Otherwise we can, I don't know, maybe we can do some drifting and stuff.
- 2:04:32Like, you know, once my SIM set up ready, I can do a lot
- 2:04:37of different types of racing.
- 2:04:38Like I made a promise to myself.
- 2:04:40So yeah, it's been like months for me waiting for my sim setup to be done.
- 2:04:45So I made a promise to myself like, you know what?
- 2:04:47Once I get my sim setup ready I will push myself to the limit as in like I'm
- 2:04:53chasing for the win because It feels sad not having a sim setup when this is
- 2:04:58what you like to do, you know Like this is I understand that I also didn't have
- 2:05:02it for like a period in my life Yeah, like, yeah, don't take away something
- 2:05:07that I like, you know, you know, that feeling like, I just want to drive at
- 2:05:12this point, you know, yeah, I can episode with Nina when, yeah, I don't know.
- 2:05:17Yeah.
- 2:05:18Maybe, maybe we will have more episode with Nina.
- 2:05:22We can have a talk.
- 2:05:24Because for example, today we are talking about Nina's journey in sim racing, real
- 2:05:28racing, and also, um, her plan and stuff.
- 2:05:32Maybe next time we can Start talking about something more
- 2:05:36technical, speaking about car setup, everything, strategy in the race.
- 2:05:41That will be great.
