- 0:13Welcome. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:15movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:16the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd and all of our
- 0:19favours. And least favorite scary movies?
- 0:21Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:23base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:25My name is Travis, my name is Jesse.
- 0:27And welcome everybody. We're returning back to our
- 0:30Chucky series coverage this month, today and.
- 0:34Come in fresh off of me and Alex Vincent and Christine Elise.
- 0:39Yeah, who have nothing to do with this one.
- 0:41It's weirdly. Yeah.
- 0:43Yeah, but, you know, it was cool.
- 0:44We got to see get to see a little Andy and Kyle and and.
- 0:48They're best buddies in real life too.
- 0:50Yeah, so adorable. I'm sorry, I called him little
- 0:53Andy. He's a he's a full grown man
- 0:55now. He's a full grown man, but in
- 0:56our hearts will always feel that adorable little kiddo.
- 1:00Yeah. OK.
- 1:00So we're talking about Cedar Chucky.
- 1:02We are talking about a little 1 today.
- 1:03So yeah, that's that's gonna be the conversation.
- 1:06We're gonna get into that here momentarily, but before we do,
- 1:11do you have any announcements? Kind of more just like kind of a
- 1:16precursor. We are coming off a Scarfest
- 1:19weekend. We are very tired.
- 1:21We are finding random bruises in various places.
- 1:24We haven't eaten enough food over the past 72 hours.
- 1:27Our bodies are just like rebelling against us.
- 1:30Plus, you know, the general concord that comes with stuff
- 1:32like this. So like, we haven't we're not
- 1:36super caught up on all of our Halloween, our screen scream no.
- 1:40And I I don't have any voodoo background.
- 1:44Frankly, the fact that I am vertical enough to record this
- 1:47episode today is nothing short of a miracle.
- 1:49So I'm really sorry about that cuz I know that was the thing
- 1:53that I was really striving to do with this franchise, but the
- 1:55timing and the way everything worked out, just it is what it
- 1:58is. Yeah, Scarefest is like a big
- 2:02weekend for us. Like we're pretty much occupied
- 2:05for the full 72 hours. Yeah, so we, I don't have polls
- 2:10for today either cuz I wasn't able to do that.
- 2:12Yeah, we didn't have time to post polls.
- 2:14It's just it's been, it's been really exhausting in like a
- 2:18really, really good way. And if you ever have the option
- 2:21to a horror convention, highly recommend it.
- 2:25It's amazing. It's an amazing experience.
- 2:28It's definitely become a yearly tradition for us, but it's also
- 2:31become a yearly tradition to be beaten within an inch of your
- 2:35life by the end of. It so OK, now that you guys know
- 2:40what's up, we are gonna get into our little brief recaps of our
- 2:45Scream Scream movies, the movies that we have watched throughout
- 2:47October. That we've, that we've, like I
- 2:51said, we're behind a couple of movies.
- 2:54Yeah, we'll, we'll recap the ones we've watched since last
- 2:57week, 'cause I think the last time we talked about was final
- 2:59girls. It was my new pick.
- 3:01OK, so then I had a new pick on the 13th and I chose Zombieland
- 3:07Double Tap. So that was something that was
- 3:09new to both of us, and I'm pleasantly surprised with the
- 3:12sequel to that movie. I had 0 hope that it would hold
- 3:16up to the original, but I actually really really enjoyed
- 3:19it and I definitely feel like watching it again.
- 3:22I. Think the thing that really won
- 3:24us both over was when Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch
- 3:28were like the mirror images of Woody Harrelson and Jesse.
- 3:31I love those I love both those weirdos.
- 3:34We we often love having the witches, the superior Wilson
- 3:39talk. It's a joke.
- 3:40I'm not really pitting brother against brother, but.
- 3:43Unless. Unless, unless Luke, you wanna
- 3:47come be our friends, then I'll. Then you win.
- 3:49I'll tell you who I've always thought was the superior Wilson.
- 3:54Yeah. OK.
- 3:55So that was that one. So the next is a familiar.
- 3:58Yeah, Scream 3 'cause we were just trying to get in like the
- 4:00headspace for our cosplays and that's what we did on Sunday was
- 4:04Jen Jolie and her bodyguard Stone.
- 4:07Yeah. And then on the following day,
- 4:09the 15th, I did Halloween 5 because again, that was one of
- 4:12our costumes. I was Loomis from Halloween 5
- 4:14and Jesse was Tina. Not enough people showed Tina
- 4:18the respect she deserved. No they didn't.
- 4:20It's just more of a testament to how disrespected that entry is.
- 4:23Disrespect. Don't care for it.
- 4:25So then after that on the 16th was a new pic from Jesse.
- 4:29I wanted to watch dream scenario.
- 4:32Y'all, this is monumental in this household, Jesse.
- 4:36Chose a movie starring Nick Cage.
- 4:37She picked a Nick Cage movie. Like that's like unheard of.
- 4:42But I saw the trailer in theaters, like, obviously a
- 4:46while back when the movie first came out.
- 4:47And I was like, I understand that that's Nick Cage, but I'm
- 4:51actually really excited to go see this.
- 4:53So. Yeah.
- 4:54It's on Max. Yeah.
- 4:56Our good buddy Max. Yeah.
- 4:58And if you haven't watched it, just watch it.
- 5:02It's weird. Yeah.
- 5:03Like good, weird. It was one of those ones I was
- 5:06interested whenever I saw, like, the poster originally on last
- 5:10and read the premises, like, oh, that sounds like it could be
- 5:12cool. And then I watched the trailer
- 5:14and I was like, it looks like it's really weird.
- 5:16And then, yeah, you did that, and it's a really weird, good
- 5:20movie. And if you enjoyed our little
- 5:24nod to David Byrne and giant suit on our episode covering We
- 5:30Summon the Darkness, then you will definitely enjoy the little
- 5:34joke that comes up in Dream Scenario.
- 5:36Yeah, that was so funny how that worked out.
- 5:38Yeah. All right.
- 5:39And then after that, I had a new pick.
- 5:41I chose Tremors 5 Bloodlines because we still haven't
- 5:44finished that series yet, but we're almost.
- 5:46There. Yeah, we've been collecting the
- 5:48movies, and we didn't realize Jamie Kennedy was in that one
- 5:51until we were at the kickoff trivia for Scarefest.
- 5:54Yeah, and that was one of the questions.
- 5:55Yeah, we're like, we should just go home and watch this.
- 5:57And you know what? Really enjoyed it.
- 5:59I don't think I'm ever going to find a Tremors movie I don't
- 6:02enjoy. No, they're all fun.
- 6:04They're all fun in their own way.
- 6:05And I had a good time with it too.
- 6:06Looking forward to six. So then finally on, Jesse got a
- 6:11pick. Yes, we, it was a familiar and I
- 6:13went with Slaughterhouse because we met Bradley Fowler, the
- 6:16writer and creator of Slaughterhouse, and he's a cool
- 6:19fucking guy. And he's got a million sequels
- 6:22planned as long as the the distribution company he works
- 6:26with will green light him. He was really passionate about
- 6:30the whole thing. He is really interested and
- 6:33meeting fans and you know, that's always a fun experience
- 6:36as yeah, going to these kinds and being able to have those
- 6:38conversations with those people. Yes, and he actually told us
- 6:41something really cool to avoid, like copyright issues with
- 6:44images of sloths. He took the head of A2 toed
- 6:47sloth and put it on the body of a three toed sloth.
- 6:50So again, Alpha's design is one-of-a-kind.
- 6:53Why the hell are they copywriting sloth appearances?
- 6:56I don't know. Yeah, like this is this is the
- 6:59problem with capital. It is.
- 7:01Yep, OK. And then that's it for now, but
- 7:04we've. Got to catch up a few days where
- 7:06it's pick. It back up to tonight after we
- 7:08record this actually. As we eat some chili because
- 7:11it's good chili weather. Exactly.
- 7:13So OK, that now brings us into Seed of Chucky.
- 7:17Yeah. So let's do this.
- 7:18Let's get into this right so Seed of Chucky released November
- 7:2312th, 2004. We watched it on the Blu-ray
- 7:26that Jesse bought us. Here this.
- 7:28Year cuz we found a copy of it. She called me out on the last
- 7:31episode about us not having it, and then she went out and she
- 7:33fixed the problem herself. I find problems and I find
- 7:37solutions. She does.
- 7:39But if you don't have a Jesse that can fix your problems for
- 7:41you, you can. You can get one.
- 7:43Yeah, you should get one. I recommend it very much.
- 7:46But if you don't, you can just stream it on Netflix.
- 7:49That's where it's available right now.
- 7:51Or you can rent it on Amazon or YouTube or Apple.
- 7:55Written and directed by Don Mancini.
- 7:58I did not realize that this was the first one he directed.
- 8:01I thought he started with the next one.
- 8:03Yeah, I didn't realize that he directed this one either, but.
- 8:06So yeah, good for him. You got to start.
- 8:08Music by Pinot Dinagio. Special effects by Tony Gardner,
- 8:13who did the animatronics and was the special effects supervisor.
- 8:17Starring Jennifer Tilley as Tiffany and herself, Brad Duriff
- 8:23as Chucky, Billy Boyd as Glenn and Glynda Redmond as himself,
- 8:29Hannah Spirit as Joan, Steve West as Stan, and John Waters as
- 8:34Pete Peters. Yes.
- 8:36I love that we got John Waters. I know, yeah.
- 8:39I was watching some of the special feature stuff while you
- 8:42were in the shower and he was just like gushing about Truckee.
- 8:45He wants the series. I love that.
- 8:48I honestly, I'd love John Waters.
- 8:50So it's nice having his endorsement of the franchise and
- 8:54I'm sure it's gonna be huge for Don Mancini.
- 8:56How you get that? All right, time for our favorite
- 8:59game on the show. Budget or Buck Ted.
- 9:03OK, So what do you think? OK, so I know people were kind
- 9:10of like unsure about the route it took with Bread of Chucky.
- 9:16Like the more on the nose comedic route.
- 9:20Yeah. So I think high bug Ted.
- 9:27High bug, Ted. OK.
- 9:29So this is actually budget. OK, good for it, Good for it.
- 9:32Yep, it had a $12 million budget nice had opening box office of
- 9:37eight million, OK, worldwide gross 24,000,000.
- 9:40So it made twice what it had. So I think that's the formula
- 9:43right for. 3 * 3 times Yeah, because you got to take into
- 9:46account like advertising and everything too.
- 9:49Well luckily this was like at the end of the the physical
- 9:52media rental era so they still made that money back at least
- 9:56IMDb 4.9. Fucking rude. 4.9.
- 10:00Fucking rude. OK, so I have a theme of 2004
- 10:05movies here. OK.
- 10:07And that theme is? I thought you were saying the
- 10:08theme was 2004 and I was really go gun.
- 10:10It is, but it is also something else.
- 10:13It is fucked up family. OK.
- 10:16That feels appropriate. Yeah.
- 10:18All right, so the one to kick it all off?
- 10:20Tremors 4. So if you're not familiar with
- 10:25Tremors 4, it's a prequel of like, it's like a western.
- 10:29Yeah, perfection. Yeah, 1 Perfection is like a
- 10:32mining town. Yeah, and it's like birds
- 10:34ancestor, whatever. It's got a lot of like the same
- 10:38recurring cast members just playing ancestral versions of
- 10:42themselves. Yeah.
- 10:42So it's cool and you get to see their own little weird side of
- 10:47history there. So that released January 2nd,
- 10:502000. Four $5 million budget.
- 10:53Don't have a gross since it was straight to DVD but the IMDb is
- 10:575.3. OK yeah not too bad.
- 11:01Second movie saw. OK, you got a whole litter of
- 11:06people to pick from here with the fucked up family.
- 11:09Larry Gordon. Lawrence Gordon, a doctor
- 11:12excuse. Me.
- 11:12No, I love that though. Call him.
- 11:14Larry, because you. Know that would drive him crazy.
- 11:17Larry G. Larry G, Larry GI Don't know
- 11:20what his profession is. I don't know.
- 11:21Maybe he works in a hospital. Where Larry G, the nurse.
- 11:25Yeah, you know that that would drive him fucking insane.
- 11:29So you got him. You have John Kramer.
- 11:31Just for the record, we're not disrespecting nurses.
- 11:33We're saying that Larry G would disrespect.
- 11:35Yeah, his ego would not allow him to, like, see himself as a
- 11:39nurse and be cool with that. Like, he's, he's not a good guy.
- 11:43I, you know, nurses are fantastic.
- 11:44Thank you guys for doing what you do.
- 11:46Any nurses listening out there? And then, yeah, of course, John
- 11:50Kramer, who, you know, his wife is the one that suffers in this,
- 11:54although she kind of ends up being a piece of shit herself.
- 11:56Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 11:58So I don't know, there's a lot of people to pick from here.
- 12:00There's yeah, there's, there's a lot going on, so.
- 12:03So that released October 29th, 2004 $1.2 million Budget $103
- 12:09million gross IMDb 7.6 correct? Yes, very correct.
- 12:15And the final movie, Ginger Saps 2 Unleashed.
- 12:19That one is pretty decent. It was interesting seeing the
- 12:23way that they were going to continue it, all things
- 12:26considered. Yeah, I fucking hate the third
- 12:28one. I hate the third one too and it
- 12:30was released the same year so I almost chose that one.
- 12:33I was really shocked to see the IMDb rating.
- 12:36It's like in the sixes, people like it.
- 12:39Wait for the third one. Yeah dude it's such a generic
- 12:42monster movie. Don't have any of the heart that
- 12:46the 1st 2 have. It was weird because I remember
- 12:48we watched all three of them back-to-back to back because we
- 12:50were on. 7th Circle film. Yeah, they're podcasts to talk
- 12:54about the franchise and yeah, the the 1st 2 are good.
- 12:58Yeah, first one's amazing. I love the first one and the
- 13:00second one's all right. So yeah, that one, the the
- 13:04fucked up family, by the way, is the sister and that.
- 13:06Yeah, not Ginger, but fuck, what's her name?
- 13:11I can't remember the sister's name.
- 13:13Bridget. There you go.
- 13:14Yeah, yeah, her. So she's having to deal with
- 13:17shit from her fucked up sister in this movie.
- 13:19Yeah. OK.
- 13:20So that released April 13th, 2004, $3.5 million budget
- 13:25$343,000 gross 6.4 IMDb. OK.
- 13:31So yeah, it's got some love up there, yeah.
- 13:33That's good, at least. All right, I've got our tag
- 13:35lines. OK.
- 13:37All right, so there are two on the poster.
- 13:40The first one in the biggest font size is Fear the Second
- 13:44Coming. OK.
- 13:47Then then at the bottom this November, this November and get
- 13:52a load of Chucky, Yeah. I can I say the amount of dull
- 13:59semen we saw in this movie I was not fully prepared for.
- 14:03Yeah, I've got questions about it that we'll maybe address once
- 14:06we get to that point in the movie.
- 14:08So the final two, time to raise some hell.
- 14:12Not too bad. That's cute.
- 14:14And deliver us from evil. That's pretty generic.
- 14:17Yeah, that's a little bit of a stretch right there.
- 14:20I think maybe like delivering a child type deal is what they're
- 14:23going for. I.
- 14:24Forget what they're going for, but that's just a very generic
- 14:26kind of tagline. Sorry, I agree.
- 14:29OK, so let's do some fun facts. All right, so they were
- 14:35discussing that the trend of the series from like where it
- 14:39started to where Bride landed was they realized it was
- 14:43trending more towards horror comedy.
- 14:46Apparently Bride of Chucky was a parody of the romance films.
- 14:51Stuff like that. So in this one right here, they
- 14:54decided they wanted to parody a domestic drama.
- 14:57OK. So that's why we get the turmoil
- 15:00between Chucky and Tiffany and stuff like that.
- 15:03Yeah, Actually, one of the cool things I've noticed about this
- 15:06is this time around they were actually able to act with the
- 15:10dolls on set, actually, with their recorded dialogue.
- 15:14Oh cool. Yeah, so I guess all a behind
- 15:16the scenes thing of Jennifer Tilley doing the part where she
- 15:20sees Tiffany and then she screams and then like, you know,
- 15:23she's actually hearing Tiffany speak to her in her voice.
- 15:27Yeah. It was really cool.
- 15:29Production began on October 18th, 1998.
- 15:32It was going to be called Son of Chucky two days after Bride of
- 15:36Chucky's release. Because it was such a success,
- 15:39they immediately started. Ronnie, you couldn't return
- 15:42because he had scheduling conflicts.
- 15:44So this opened up the opportunity for Don Mancini to
- 15:46step in and do the directing. He wanted to explore more LGBT
- 15:52related themes in this next film, so he decided to take
- 15:56inspiration from a 1953 film called Glenn or Gwenda.
- 16:01OK, yeah, It's an exploitation film that kind of, you can kind
- 16:05of just get it based off of the title and you like, you know,
- 16:09went from more of a comedic tone.
- 16:10Claimed that slasher icons of the time.
- 16:13So like Freddie, Michael, Jason. He said that all of them were
- 16:17already becoming less scary anyways because audiences were
- 16:20getting more familiar with them. Yeah.
- 16:22So he said instead of taking Chucky in that direction, he
- 16:24wanted to just lean into the the comedy aspect.
- 16:28You know, like, he's not going to be scary anymore, so at least
- 16:30let's make him funny or something.
- 16:32Yeah, Give him his own little fresh spin.
- 16:34I like that take on it, like, OK, well we know what's going to
- 16:37happen with the audience anyway, so how do we lean into that?
- 16:39Yeah, I it makes a lot of sense. I can see why and I respect that
- 16:43decision. Universal expected a traditional
- 16:47slasher whenever they first were approving this thing.
- 16:51They got the script and rejected it and sent a note back saying
- 16:55just too gay. Wow.
- 16:58Yeah, I know, right? So they instead went forward
- 17:02with Focus Features and had it distributed by Rogue Pictures.
- 17:07All right, well, massive respect to Focus features and rogue
- 17:11pictures for not isn't that weird?
- 17:15Big judgement on Universal. That's so weird that you just
- 17:18send a note that just says too gay.
- 17:20Like I yeah, it's a. How do you say that to a human?
- 17:25You know what I mean? Yeah, I'm glad that it was still
- 17:27able to be made, Yeah. Because like, you really don't
- 17:32have a lot of control with that stuff in Hollywood.
- 17:34Like you're kind of at the mercy of these big companies.
- 17:36Also Glenn slash Glenda being gender fluid has nothing to do
- 17:42with sexuality. That's that's a gender identity
- 17:45thing is a completely different thing I.
- 17:47Wonder if the script was different maybe?
- 17:49Maybe it could have been, yeah, there was six years between when
- 17:52production started versus when it released.
- 17:54Yeah, that's insane that there was such a big time script.
- 17:57Yeah. And the final thing that I have
- 17:59is before referring the role to Redmond, he originally offered
- 18:03it to Tarantino, but Tarantino declined, so he got Redmond
- 18:07instead. Wild.
- 18:10I can see it and weirdly I could kind of see Tarantino wanting to
- 18:15do that cuz I know that he also liked to act, but I think that
- 18:18he might take him. He might be Larry Gordon.
- 18:21Yeah, in this. Sense right here where he thinks
- 18:23he's too good for it or something.
- 18:24I wonder if it would feel a little bit too weird for him
- 18:27where he is also a director, to be playing a director that
- 18:33sleeps with actresses. Yeah.
- 18:35Them a lead, I wonder if that was just kind of a maybe not the
- 18:38best PR move kind of decision for him.
- 18:40OK, that's that's all my special fun facts.
- 18:44So they're special this week apparently.
- 18:47Yeah, because I say so. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:49So that means we are into our good, bad, ugly and absurd.
- 18:53So Jesse, you kick it off. What did you like about this
- 18:56one? My good.
- 18:57I love that this movie gave a lot of space to Glenn and
- 19:03Glenda. I'm just gonna use both names
- 19:06when referring to them throughout this movie because
- 19:10it, you know, the whole thing is that they're fluid.
- 19:13It's. They're fluid, but they seem to
- 19:16like make it very clear when they're presenting as one or the
- 19:19other. Until it gets to the point where
- 19:23they say out loud that sometimes they feel like a boy, sometimes
- 19:28they feel like a girl, which I really appreciated having that
- 19:32like on film, having that description for people who might
- 19:36not be familiar with the concept.
- 19:38I think that's really like groundbreaking breaking,
- 19:40especially in a franchise as popular as the Chucky franchise
- 19:44is. I also I really, really love
- 19:47like the idea, the exploration of why they kill like and it
- 19:52really just comes down to because.
- 19:53They it's a hobby. Yeah.
- 19:55We like to unwind. It makes us less stressed.
- 19:58Like, that was really funny. I like that.
- 20:00And I also like at the end where Chucky was just like embracing
- 20:05being the infamous killer doll. I think that's such a huge
- 20:08turning point for his character. That's one of my favorite scenes
- 20:11where he's just like, he's like, I am infamous.
- 20:13I'm fucking Chucky the killer doll.
- 20:16I have a like legacy. Cuz he spent so much of the
- 20:19franchise up until this point desperately trying to get back
- 20:22into a human body and now he's just like fuck it maybe this is
- 20:26better. You know what, it's kind of
- 20:27weird because maybe that was matter for the movie to where
- 20:31like, hey, we're doing this new thing with Chucky where he's
- 20:34like more of a comedic character.
- 20:36And then at the end he's like, fuck it, I want to go back to
- 20:38being a slasher villain. Yeah.
- 20:40And then like, actually from the movies here on now, he actually
- 20:44does go back more of a traditional slasher.
- 20:46So it's kind of cool. Cool.
- 20:47Yeah. OK.
- 20:49You got anything else? Those are the main goods for me.
- 20:51Oh also, God, fucking the fun they had with Tiffany and then
- 20:58also bringing in Jennifer Tilley as herself and the fun that they
- 21:02have with all of that, like making references to her voice,
- 21:06the three-way call with Joan. Like.
- 21:09All of that's so fun. So My good is kind of playing
- 21:15into that right there. I think that they offered a
- 21:18better premise to do more meta commentary because they said it
- 21:23in Hollywood with Jennifer Tilley.
- 21:26So it makes a lot of sense to be making these comments.
- 21:28I like this approach better than what they were doing before
- 21:31where they were referencing other franchises and also kind
- 21:35of like the movies themselves in a way.
- 21:37I don't know, like it was, It's fine at times, but I just like
- 21:41this approach better. I thought Gwen was a really cool
- 21:44addition. I like the design of the doll or
- 21:46Gwen and Gwenda. Excuse me, the design's really
- 21:49cool. I like that.
- 21:50It's like a like. They did a good job combining
- 21:53both elements of the characters. Yes.
- 21:55Right there. Yeah.
- 21:57I mean, finally, I I think it's a pretty funny film.
- 22:00Like I I think that it hits the good comedic beats.
- 22:03Chucky really leans into being a like a humorous character this
- 22:07summer round. Like I said before, this is the
- 22:09one that made my friend not scared of Chucky whenever I
- 22:12showed it to him as a kid. And like, watching it again
- 22:14today I'm like, oh I can see why.
- 22:15Because they'd never even like play him as being really that
- 22:19much of A threat. He's just kind of telling jokes
- 22:22and being funny most of the time.
- 22:24OK, so bad. Bad.
- 22:29I'm struggling. I think there's something bad
- 22:31about this. Oh wow, really?
- 22:32I know a lot of people like hate on it, but I don't really get
- 22:35the hate for it. I love it.
- 22:37It's one of my favorites in the franchise.
- 22:40OK, trying to think of like things I would maybe change and
- 22:46do. You want me to go?
- 22:50Yeah, yeah. Inspire you.
- 22:52So my thing I guess is like things just kind of happen and
- 22:58we don't really get anything explaining like so Glenn and
- 23:04magically finds out exactly how to get to the studio and this is
- 23:07all just like happens. OK, that's a good that's a
- 23:09really good point. They they escaped from Sykes and
- 23:13just. Just get over there.
- 23:15Yeah, immediately. Like, yeah, 2 minutes later in
- 23:18the film, they're right there with Chucky and Tiffany.
- 23:23And then also things like how did Chucky know how to go to
- 23:27John Waters office in a random building in LA, one of the most
- 23:32populated cities on the planet. It also like it just feels more
- 23:36cartoony. Yeah.
- 23:38It it I liked the feel of the other films.
- 23:41I really liked like the gothic vibe of Bride of Chucky and then
- 23:46this one. It just kind of, there's
- 23:48something about it. It felt more like I was watching
- 23:50a cartoon, which I don't want as much for these movies.
- 23:56There's just something weird about it.
- 23:58I can't really put my finger on it, but it's just it's more out
- 24:00there. I kind of like having this
- 24:02bizarre character, but in a grounded world.
- 24:05And then, yeah, they just the way that they did certain things
- 24:08and certain scenes unfolded, like the Britney Spears scene
- 24:10and stuff like that. Like, yeah, they're all just
- 24:12kind of like. That's, you know what, Yeah.
- 24:14I don't like that Britney Spears scene because it feels so out of
- 24:16pocket. Yeah, it's just, it's so weird.
- 24:19And yeah, I I could do without that.
- 24:23What did Britney do to you, Don Mancini?
- 24:26I know. Right.
- 24:26And what did Julia Roberts do to Jennifer Chili?
- 24:29Yeah, I I get making fun of yourself, but like, you know,
- 24:34making fun of these other people that have no involvement in the
- 24:36movie is a completely different thing.
- 24:38OK for me ugly. OK, there are a few different
- 24:45things that you could pull up, obviously, like the predatory
- 24:50nature of paparazzi and studios and like people in charge, like
- 24:55Redmond as a director, like. But I think one of the big
- 25:01things that I'm going to highlight for this specifically,
- 25:03it's something we've talked about before on the show, like
- 25:06profiting off of like a tragedy is always like there's a fine
- 25:11line. And the fact that the studio is
- 25:14like knowingly using dolls that were found at a crime scene and
- 25:20it's an unsolved murder. You're right, I didn't even
- 25:24really think of that, but that's that's really scummy.
- 25:26If that happened in real life, I would be put off by that.
- 25:30Like even in the Annabelle movies, it is based off of like
- 25:34a true report, but it's a different doll, you know what I
- 25:37mean? It's even a different design.
- 25:39I mean, it's a whole other thing to take, like a story that
- 25:42really happened and make a movie based off of it.
- 25:44But to, like, use the actual thing.
- 25:46Yeah, that's. That is a whole other thing.
- 25:48Yeah. Well, you kind of summed up the
- 25:51two that I had there. I had the paparazzi and Redmond
- 25:54in my uglies because. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:56Paparazzi, I hate how, I mean, they're predatory in their own
- 25:59way. And so is Redmond in this thing
- 26:01where he's like, basically offering it to whoever sleeps
- 26:05with in the role of the movie there.
- 26:07And it's really disgusting. So yeah, I don't like seeing
- 26:10this stuff. OK, Absurd.
- 26:15I love this. So in the second one, when in
- 26:19the second one, Jesus, the one before this one, Bride of
- 26:23Chucky, Bride of Chucky, yes. I don't know where second one
- 26:25came from. I'm sorry.
- 26:28They have a joke about, you know, Chuck.
- 26:31He's like, oh, what are you gonna do, push the pedals while
- 26:34I steer? Yeah.
- 26:35And then they do that exact thing to get to Peter's studio.
- 26:40I think that's really funny. Yeah, I thought that that was
- 26:42funny. Yeah.
- 26:44So my first one is that Joan writes all of Jennifer Tilly's
- 26:51fake fan mail. And just send.
- 26:53It to her yeah, that was really funny and then also Martha
- 26:57Stewart is being executed in this.
- 26:59Universe, yeah for. Some horrific crime that she
- 27:02did. We don't know what it is that
- 27:03she did, but it must have been fucked up.
- 27:06I, I think that it's that's so funny that they did that.
- 27:09It's. Bizarre.
- 27:10That was before she even went to jail, right?
- 27:11So like. So that's.
- 27:13Crazy. That is really weird.
- 27:15That's yeah, it's kind of funny. He almost like predicted the the
- 27:21legal issues. Yeah.
- 27:23OK. So what do you rate this then?
- 27:28I think I want to get this an 8.75.
- 27:31I really, really love it. I like this one, I want it to
- 27:37but I do put it down there towards the bottom for me
- 27:40because all the other ones are just like so good.
- 27:42It's 1 of this is really one of those franchises that it's just
- 27:45really strong throughout. Yeah, exactly.
- 27:48I think I'd give this one like a 675 all.
- 27:53Right. So 7.75 is our starting average.
- 27:56OK. I think that that's appropriate
- 27:58for this. Yeah.
- 28:00All right, so let's get started. Let's.
- 28:03Get it started. So we start off the opening
- 28:07credits. Our biology class start off with
- 28:11the semen right away. Poorly animated semen.
- 28:14Yeah, it's it's kind of a staple.
- 28:16Not the semen part, but like the the poor special effects
- 28:20animation that's let. It dry, it could be, you know,
- 28:24stick some things. Together.
- 28:27Yeah, I guess so, yeah. But I just like see, I guess.
- 28:31Like the child we're seeing, the conception.
- 28:35I don't fucking know. And then we see a child open up
- 28:38a present. Yeah, we see a child opening up
- 28:42a present. Everything's first person.
- 28:44I love the way that this opening is shot like.
- 28:46This I feel so bad for Glenn Glenda in this like that they
- 28:53have these kinds of recurring nightmares and.
- 28:56Yeah, this is really cool though.
- 28:58Like the way that I just love the way it's shot.
- 29:00So like, they're all really disgusted by this.
- 29:03That is really upsetting that this is your dreams happening
- 29:06all the time. Just everybody reminding you
- 29:07that you're ugly. And then they get put back in
- 29:10the box and then in the middle of the night, get out.
- 29:12It was a birthday, so there's a knife in a birthday cake in.
- 29:15The fucking cake with the knife out on the table like that.
- 29:18These. Fucking humans.
- 29:19And like then Richard has the audacity to get mad at Claudia
- 29:24for thinking that she left her dolls on the floor.
- 29:27Yeah, with the cake also just out.
- 29:28I mean, yeah, the whole place is a mess right now.
- 29:31You can't be the you can't cast saying stoned yourself, buddy.
- 29:35So. Is that a good example?
- 29:36Yeah. Well, he's he's kind of excited
- 29:39because the wife is up there. He's like, hey, I'm heading in
- 29:42the shower and he's like, I'll be right there.
- 29:45No trying to put the cake up. He's like walking through the
- 29:47hallway with his robe on and sees Glenn Glenda standing there
- 29:52and scolds the daughter. Yeah, yells at Claudia but then
- 29:55gets stabbed and falls over the banister.
- 29:59So cool. I think the thing that really
- 30:02impresses me the most about this is how it's kind of like a
- 30:05single shot type. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:08I'm sure that they definitely split some things up here, but
- 30:11it plays seamlessly. Yeah, so he goes back upstairs,
- 30:16goes into the bathroom and that's where they sorry.
- 30:20And that's where they go to the the mom showering and then she
- 30:25just basically just gets scared to.
- 30:27Death, yeah. And.
- 30:27Just strips out of the shower and breaks her neck or
- 30:30something. I don't.
- 30:31Know how that hits her head for sure because there's like a lot
- 30:33of blood pulling up. Yeah.
- 30:36They go into the daughter's room to try and stab her, but she's
- 30:39not in the bed and said walks in and it's like you killed my mom
- 30:44and dad and now you're pissed in your pants.
- 30:46You're pissing your pants, you're pissing your pants.
- 30:48And that's when Glenn slash Glendale wakes up and Sykes is
- 30:53yelling at them, talking about they've got to go out to their
- 30:56show. And also that they're pissing
- 30:58their pants because they're actually doing.
- 31:01Actually, yeah. So the whole thing here is Sykes
- 31:06has a sideshow going on where they use them as a like a dummy.
- 31:12Yeah, it's kind of like a dirtier Jeff Dunham type thing.
- 31:16Yeah, Yeah. I mean, it's really, it's kind
- 31:20of about the same in terms of dirtiness right here.
- 31:22It's really kind of tame. Well, Sykes, seems like this is
- 31:27coming back more outwardly scummy.
- 31:28Yeah, he's a pretty shitty dude. So I don't know if this is a
- 31:34false memory but I swear I remember in like broadcast
- 31:38versions of this movie instead of shit.
- 31:40Face it, the name they gave them was puke.
- 31:45Face, puke face. Like I it is so deeply ingrained
- 31:50in my head so I don't know if that was a real thing or if it's
- 31:54just like my brain made a fake memory of it.
- 31:58Let's see, I'm gonna look that up cuz I'm really curious about
- 32:02that too. I'm sure that they had to do
- 32:03something like that because you can't say shit on cave.
- 32:06Well, you can, but you. Can, but I don't think you could
- 32:08in 2004. Doesn't say.
- 32:11OK. It could be if you guys.
- 32:14Has this memory. Please.
- 32:15Yeah, let us know. Yeah.
- 32:17OK. So yeah, they're basically, they
- 32:20are being made fun of by the by Sykes, by the crowd.
- 32:24Everybody's just laughing about how ugly they are.
- 32:27It's really upsetting. Sykes says that they found them
- 32:30in a cemetery six years ago. So they just like waltzed up on
- 32:34this crime scene and we're like, right, cool taking this doll so.
- 32:38The cops were there too, like right away.
- 32:40So it was an active crime scene. I'm sure it's impressive that
- 32:44they were able to walk away with this.
- 32:45Yeah. So yeah, now it is at night.
- 32:49We get a voice over from Glenn slash Glenda explaining that,
- 32:54like, they know they're an orphan.
- 32:56They have these really violent dreams, but they wouldn't even
- 32:58hurt a family. And they've just always wondered
- 33:01where they come from. They know that they have this
- 33:04mark on their wrist. This is made in Japan.
- 33:06Yeah. So we cut to a man walking
- 33:10through a snowy cemetery. He was wearing a Santa suit and
- 33:12he's on the phone saying that he's going to be at his
- 33:15girlfriend's house soon and she breaks up with him so he gets
- 33:18mad. Obviously it feels fair.
- 33:22Yeah, that's fair. And then while he's having this
- 33:24conversation, Chucky has cut out the fucking sack.
- 33:28Yeah, the toy sack. The toy sack, Yeah.
- 33:30So all the toys have spilled all over the place, and then
- 33:33Chucky's propped up against the cemetery or the the fucking
- 33:37grapes of God, My brain is melted today.
- 33:39Yeah, the the stone. So the Santa goes over there and
- 33:44it's just kind of checking them out.
- 33:45And then as it's happening, Tiffany sinks up from behind
- 33:47with the slinky and strangles him to death.
- 33:50It. Seems really inefficient.
- 33:52Yeah, it does, because it seems. Like it would not be easy to do.
- 33:54I think it's it's creative. I I like it is creative I.
- 33:57Like strangling somebody with a slinky, that's fun.
- 34:00And then the they have the guy, that voice thing.
- 34:03Is gonna be used in court someday.
- 34:05What's that? That voice clip of you saying I
- 34:07like strangling somebody with this language.
- 34:08Oh. God.
- 34:09Well, OK, I will not do that. Then I'll use another fun toy,
- 34:13and that's also gonna be played. Yep.
- 34:14All right. So the guy's laying on the
- 34:17ground and then they're stabbing him, and then Chucky just keeps,
- 34:19like, repeating the line while he's stabbing him.
- 34:21I can't remember what he was saying.
- 34:23I didn't write it down because I thought you were going to write
- 34:25it down. No, but he like keeps like
- 34:27stabbing him over and over again.
- 34:28And The thing is like, I could see this actually being him.
- 34:30Yeah. I thought he was just like going
- 34:33to town on the guy, just stabbing him and over it's
- 34:34having. A real bad day.
- 34:35Yeah. But that's when I find out that
- 34:37they're actually on set. The doll is malfunctioning, so
- 34:40the actor is really annoyed. An Access Hollywood Reporter is,
- 34:44you know, kind of filming some behind the scenes stuff to
- 34:46promote the movie. They're using real dolls found
- 34:49on the scene of a crime scene of Still Unsolved of MASH murder.
- 34:55So. And the special effects guy
- 34:57there that's working on the doll is the actual special effects
- 35:00guy, Tony Gardner. Yeah.
- 35:02Which is really cool. Yeah, Jennifer Tilly is one of
- 35:06the stars of the movie. She's supposed to be on a diet,
- 35:08but she keeps sneaking around trying to eat different.
- 35:10Things. Yeah.
- 35:10She's like hiding them in Chucky's.
- 35:12Yeah, bras. And she gets mad about Julia
- 35:14Roberts always getting all of the roles she wants.
- 35:18And that's when her assistant Joan reveals that Redmond needs
- 35:21a Virgin Mary for his Bible epic.
- 35:23This is inspired by the passion of the Christ for sure.
- 35:27Yeah, well, and they even make a reference to Mel Gibson.
- 35:30Yeah. So so.
- 35:32Yeah, meanwhile back in London, Glenn slash Glenda sees the
- 35:35Access Hollywood piece and also sees Chucky's wrist cuz they I
- 35:40like that. In universe, Chucky and Tiffany
- 35:43also do interviews as the dolls. They did on the Blu-ray, too,
- 35:48Did they? Yeah.
- 35:49There's a whole thing where Chucky is being interviewed by
- 35:52this guy. My God.
- 35:53And yeah, they were also Glenn Gwinda and Tiffany and Chucky
- 35:58were all doing a thing, too. It was kind of interesting that
- 36:01they went into that type of commitment just for the special
- 36:03features, but yeah, they get the idea that that's their parents
- 36:07and they need to get the hell out of there.
- 36:09And then that's when Sykes comes in.
- 36:11Sykes is like you need to be scarier and drops a rat in their
- 36:14cage and is like basically trying to urge them to kill the
- 36:18rat and instead they attack Sykes.
- 36:23The rat bites yeah, Sykes finger, which gets them the
- 36:27opportunity to run out and they run out of the building and.
- 36:30They run like a Twilight character.
- 36:33Yeah, they do. Yeah, it's it's funny, but I
- 36:36feel like that's the most we've seen a puppet in the series run.
- 36:41Yeah, because. Usually they hire.
- 36:44Yeah, normally you get like a little shuffle and it's usually
- 36:47a little person that's. Just like actually running,
- 36:49yeah. Yeah.
- 36:51So they make their escape and they're out of here.
- 36:53And then we see a little dotted line, a map, and it's going all
- 36:57the way to Elway. So they arrive, they're in the
- 37:02Hollywood studio with all of these other horror movie props.
- 37:06I don't know, this must be Universal Studios or something
- 37:08cuz it's got all of like the classic Universal monsters.
- 37:13Meanwhile, Jennifer is at Redmond Studio reading for the
- 37:17part of Virgin Mary. And he's like, I'm a huge fan of
- 37:21yours, but I wanna go with my first choice, who happens to be
- 37:25Julia Roberts. And he's like, but I'm a fan.
- 37:28I wanna work together. And so Jennifer suggests a more
- 37:30intimate meeting later that night.
- 37:32Yeah, and all that actually happened before Glenda arrives
- 37:35here, so. OK.
- 37:37So Glen Glenda is in the studio and finds Chucky and Tiffany,
- 37:42but they're like in dog mode. Like kind of sleeper mode
- 37:45almost. Yeah, kind of permanently, yeah.
- 37:47They I feel like they had to have like some kind of
- 37:49reconstruction going on, right. They're they're still is no
- 37:52longer active. Yeah.
- 37:54And until Glen Glenda reads the inscription on the back of the
- 37:58amulet, which they have. Yeah, they still have the amulet
- 38:01from Bride of Chucky. And it wakes up Chucky and
- 38:04Tiffany. They introduce themselves as
- 38:06shit face and Tiffany is like, that's no kind of a name for a
- 38:10sweet little thing like you. And then Chucky is of course
- 38:13making fun of them and calling them super ugly and saying who
- 38:18are your parents? I'm sure they're in hiding
- 38:19because they Can you imagine what they look like And then
- 38:23when? They reveal the made in Japan.
- 38:25Yeah, and Chucky looks down and he's got the exact same thing.
- 38:27Yeah, Then a Puppetech comes in and it's saying on the phone
- 38:32like they're dolls. They're not just going to get up
- 38:34and walk around on their own. If you want them to work, I need
- 38:36to fix them. And this scene, props to Tony
- 38:40Gardner and the puppeteering that's going on with this,
- 38:43because like, the violation showing on Tiffany's face while
- 38:47he's being worked on, it was seared in my brain.
- 38:50It is awful. One of the things that I that
- 38:53stood out to me watching this is that they nailed the facial
- 38:56expressions. Like you can tell with each
- 38:58movie they get better about getting them more animated and
- 39:01having like more actual realistic like features and
- 39:05looks. Absolutely.
- 39:06Yeah, and so he's got her dress in the back ripped open and then
- 39:11unscrews her back and then removes the plate and then it's
- 39:14like organs and shit, just like beating in there.
- 39:18And that's when Chucky comes up with some like wire and they
- 39:22kind of like garrotte. It's a garrotte situation.
- 39:25Yeah, wrap it around his neck. And then they both like double
- 39:28team him and they just like pull together and decapitate some.
- 39:31And they just like look at each other as if they're in love
- 39:34again. Yeah, it's.
- 39:35All in so emotion. Glenn Glenda is.
- 39:38Horrified. Horrified and peas themselves.
- 39:41Like this is my I'm so happy that my mom and dad are here.
- 39:44This is so cool Oh my God. Yeah, this is like a it's a
- 39:48nightmare since you always should have like finding your
- 39:50birth parents. Can you imagine?
- 39:51You're murderers like the first time, like, Oh my God, we're
- 39:54finally a whole family. And then they just like, cut
- 39:56somebody's head off right in front of you.
- 39:58That's traumatic. This has been Chucky and Tiffany
- 40:01start arguing over if this child is a son or a daughter and they
- 40:06pull down their pants and they're it's like actual doll
- 40:10like, you know. Anatomy.
- 40:12Yeah, Yeah. So they kind of argue back and
- 40:16forth until Jennifer comes in and she's trying to get her
- 40:19secret candy bar that she stuffed in Chucky's over, and
- 40:23she finds the tech's head. And she assumes it's a probe at
- 40:26first. And then when she realizes it
- 40:27isn't, she screams. And then the cops arrive and she
- 40:30has to walk out to a crowd of paparazzi, just like trying to
- 40:34ask a million questions. Is it a little bit better that
- 40:37one of the paparazzi members is John Waters?
- 40:39Would that make it a bit? What if he was actually doing
- 40:42paparazzi, I mean. I would be like John, be better.
- 40:49You don't need to be a paparazzo.
- 40:51Yeah. And then, like, while all this
- 40:54is happening, her driver is waiting on the other side of the
- 40:57of the people. And he just keeps trying to
- 40:59rehearse, like, I love you, Tiffany or Jennifer.
- 41:02Jennifer, I love you like over and over again.
- 41:05And she says she wants to sit up front with him and when she gets
- 41:08in she smooches. And the Ray family has sat in
- 41:14the back of. Oh, is that what you call them?
- 41:16The Ray family? OK.
- 41:17I mean, Tiffany on the phone introduces herself as Tiffany
- 41:20Ray. Oh, really?
- 41:21Yeah, OK, She calls up the widow Bailey.
- 41:24I guess they are married. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:25OK, no. So yeah, they're all just kind
- 41:28of riding and drinking champagne in the back while Jennifer is on
- 41:31the phone with her agent, who is trying to get her to get more
- 41:35champagne. No, she's talking to Joan.
- 41:37Oh, right. Oh, I thought she was agent, but
- 41:39that's not. No, that's.
- 41:40Her assistant? Assistant.
- 41:41Yeah. Anyways, more champagne, gonna
- 41:44go meet with Redmond. This gets the driver kind of sad
- 41:47because he's in love with her and.
- 41:49She's like, don't worry, it's just a meeting, it's all
- 41:51business. And in the back Tiffany is like,
- 41:53OK, so I'll transfer myself to Jennifer, you transferring to
- 41:57Redmond and then we will get a surrogate for our new child.
- 42:01And she was like, I'm not going to be pregnant again.
- 42:03My mother always said once is a blessing, twice is a curse.
- 42:07And Chucky goes well, explains your sister.
- 42:11OK, so they set up in Jennifer's attic and Glenn Glenda asks
- 42:18about their murder. And Chucky's like, oh, it's
- 42:20just, you know, it's a hobby. And they're like, am I going to
- 42:24kill him? And Chucky's like, of course
- 42:26it's a family tradition. And then Tiffany's like, you
- 42:28know what? Maybe they're right.
- 42:29Like this is an addiction and we should try and be better now
- 42:32that we're parents. I like before that they're like,
- 42:35I thought like people always said violence is bad and
- 42:38Chucky's like no violins are bad.
- 42:42Violins Tiffany is like we need to just quit cold Turkey, set a
- 42:48good example for a child and Chucky is like OK, fine, but
- 42:52behind his back is crossing his fingers and again it shows how
- 42:55far the puppetry is gone. They can get that like finger
- 42:58crossing. Motion.
- 42:58I know. Yeah, it's really cool.
- 43:00So Redmond arrives, and while he's showing up.
- 43:04Redmond arrives. Joan comes in and is trying to
- 43:06talk Jennifer out of this and saying that it's not like a good
- 43:10idea, like you shouldn't sleep with a director, especially if
- 43:12you're trying to get the role of Virgin Mary.
- 43:14And so Jennifer fires her. Yeah, she's like you're being
- 43:17discussing you're this is evil. You're going to hell for this.
- 43:19So hold on a second. That's a little extreme.
- 43:22Like it's kind of yeah. Like you could just be like,
- 43:24hey. Did she maybe read the movies?
- 43:27You wanna do do, do you want to like really do this?
- 43:31Is this worth like you know? I thought it was interesting
- 43:34because she was condemning people.
- 43:36She said the same thing about Julia Roberts.
- 43:38Yeah, at the opening. And then here she's like, no,
- 43:40I'm like, who cares what people say?
- 43:42Yeah, Yeah, it was interesting. So she's out of the picture now.
- 43:46Redmond comes in, they sit on the couch and they're kind of
- 43:51doing a little meeting of sorts, but really it's just like
- 43:55immediately hitting up sex. And Chuck is up serious trying
- 43:59to get a semen fluid collection. One of my favorite things
- 44:05watching the special features is they were breaking down how many
- 44:09people it took to work on this, like how many people it takes to
- 44:13make Chucky jerk off. Oh my God.
- 44:15And they all like were like commenting like, hi, this is me.
- 44:19I'm working in the arms and like, hi, this is me.
- 44:21I got the eyes is really funny. So the while this is happening
- 44:26Pete Peters has snuck in as well and is taking pictures of
- 44:31Jennifer and Redmond making out and also sees what he assumes is
- 44:36a little person jerking off in the window and is like Oh my
- 44:39God, this is all just super intense.
- 44:41Yeah, and then also catching glimpses of Tiffany.
- 44:44Yeah, just sneaking around, messing with the champagne
- 44:47bottle. She spikes it with pills.
- 44:49A lot of pills, yeah. But ultimately they don't drink
- 44:53anything because they're just down to fuck immediately.
- 44:55Yeah, so she takes one of the trophies and just bashes Redmond
- 44:59in the head with it. Yeah.
- 45:00Because she like, of course, like Tiffany's got her own moral
- 45:04code. And we know that she doesn't
- 45:05like when people are dishonest in this kind of way.
- 45:08Yeah. So like, she doesn't like that
- 45:10Redmond's being predatory. And she doesn't like that
- 45:12Jennifer is, like, selling her body to get a role, basically.
- 45:15Yeah. And so she hits Redmond with a
- 45:18trophy, and then she. I thought it was funny that the
- 45:20trophy is most improved. I know.
- 45:23And I feel there's another dig I heard.
- 45:25And Jennifer screams, runs, and that's when she runs into
- 45:28Chucky, who is holding a very messy cup of his semen.
- 45:32He's like, what am I supposed to do with this?
- 45:33And then she turns, runs the other way, trips and then that's
- 45:36and Tiffany is like, we can do this the easy way or the hard
- 45:39way off is her the champagne bottle.
- 45:41And Jennifer just screams again. So she hits her with the trophy.
- 45:44OK. So here is a great opportunity
- 45:46for me to pose my question about the Chucky batter there.
- 45:51We're back to that. We're back the good guy batter.
- 45:54Yes. So as dolls, when they had sex,
- 46:00they conceived another doll. So he's now got doll semen going
- 46:07into a human. Would that not create a human
- 46:10doll hybrid? So according to Tiffany, it's a
- 46:16voodoo conception, so normal rules don't count.
- 46:20So basically it's just the perfect way to hand wave
- 46:23anything away. We're ice boxing it, OK, That's
- 46:26all we're doing. Well, I you know what?
- 46:28I always hit something. Yeah, that gives me something to
- 46:31point to. OK, that's good enough.
- 46:34So they have both of them like knocked out and.
- 46:40Titanfony. They're not tied up, actually.
- 46:43They're just like on the bed and Tiffany does the Turkey baster
- 46:46thing. Yeah.
- 46:47Because they wake up the next morning and they're both
- 46:49confused and don't know what's going on.
- 46:50Yeah, that. Then while this is going on,
- 46:54Glenn, Glenn does having nightmares and Chucky wakes them
- 46:58up with a Boo and he's like, all right, we're going to go
- 47:00hunting. And this is when they get to Pee
- 47:04Eaters studio after they have like their weird road rage with
- 47:08Britney Spears. See.
- 47:09He didn't notice him before, did he?
- 47:11He he was, He made a comment about paparazzi when they were
- 47:14at the studio before. Yeah.
- 47:16So I guess he was like, I'm gonna go kill that guy at some
- 47:19point just because I hate the paparazzi.
- 47:21Maybe. Yeah, well, either way, they
- 47:23killed Britney Spears along the way.
- 47:24Yeah, so that's the thing. And then they make it to the
- 47:27office and they're in the dark room.
- 47:29He is developing his photos even though they're all digital.
- 47:33Yeah, what the fuck? That is weird.
- 47:34I didn't even think that. Yeah.
- 47:36So Chucky is hiding up on the ceiling.
- 47:38He's just kind of holding himself up there.
- 47:41Glenda is underneath one of the tables, ready to spook him.
- 47:44Or just kind of observe. Yeah.
- 47:46And so John Waters, I'm just gonna call him John.
- 47:49Waters, John Waters. Waters realizes that the person
- 47:53that he saw masturbating was actually the Chucky doll that's
- 47:59from this movie set and kind of freaks out and starts to leave
- 48:03the room, which is when Glenn Glenda jumps out and tries to
- 48:06warn him and instead it just scares John and he falls back
- 48:11into his shelf, which for some reason has like unsecured
- 48:14sulfuric acid. Yeah, what the fuck was that
- 48:17about? Is that a process taken for some
- 48:20photos to develop? I don't know because all of my
- 48:23photography is digital and I'm not in.
- 48:26I'm not like obnoxiously developing them in a dark room.
- 48:30That's fair. So Chucky takes a picture of the
- 48:33three of them like he's very proud of their child's first
- 48:37kill. He's like, you're a natural born
- 48:38killer. Oh my God.
- 48:39Yeah. I think it's like a disposable
- 48:41camera and they like set up a picture.
- 48:43It's funny. Jen and Redmond wake up the next
- 48:46morning. They can't remember much and he
- 48:48was like, well I remember you screaming.
- 48:49I tend to have that effect on women.
- 48:51Feels very Charles Minor like I am aware of the effect I have.
- 48:54On Yeah. Then we cut over to Tiffany, who
- 48:58is going through like the 12 Steps program for murdering.
- 49:02It's 12 steps in three days recovery for the woman on the go
- 49:08or something. Like that?
- 49:10Yeah. OK, so she skips ahead to step
- 49:129, which is making amends, which isn't.
- 49:13She calls it the Widow Bailey. And I was like, I'm so sorry I
- 49:16killed your husband. I just want you to know I'm in
- 49:18recovery. And like on the other end of the
- 49:21phone, we hear her getting like more and more work.
- 49:23Yeah, she's like, is this a sick joke?
- 49:25Yeah. Like The thing is, I can see
- 49:29somebody actually doing this. Yeah, that's the really fucked
- 49:32up thing is that. People do that with, like,
- 49:33actual shit online right now. There are videos of people
- 49:36taunting families of like, victims like this.
- 49:39So fucked up. It is super fucked up, yeah.
- 49:41I mean, like, we have Alex Jones, who, you know, famously
- 49:45was trying to say like, Sandy Hook didn't happen.
- 49:47And yeah, those are like. Fuck.
- 49:51You, yeah. Fuck, Alec, That's the nicest
- 49:53thing I could ever say to you. I like it.
- 49:55Could go much harder than that. Yeah, fuck that guy.
- 49:58So, yeah. But still, I guess it's kind of
- 50:00funny, but at the same time, it's kind of dark.
- 50:03Yeah. It's really.
- 50:03Dark. It's dark.
- 50:04Like the fact that this is the thing that actually happens.
- 50:06But maybe like, it's funny to watch Tiffany completely absolve
- 50:09herself. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:11All right, I did the step. I did the thing like she's the
- 50:13void of any kind of like humanity related to that.
- 50:16Yeah, it's kind of fun. So it's like the next night,
- 50:19Redmond back over, no? Stan picks up Jennifer and
- 50:24they're supposed to go like to the studio or whatever and then
- 50:27she and he like starts to say something to her and then she
- 50:30throws up into her bag with her face.
- 50:32She put her own face on. It Oh my God, this movie has so
- 50:36many layers of Jennifer Tilley so.
- 50:37Many layers of Jennifer Tilley and that's what makes it so
- 50:40perfectly campy and amazing. Like Don Mancini really captured
- 50:44that as they love it. Yeah, it's, it's great.
- 50:47Yeah. Then it's like later that night
- 50:50and Jennifer and Redmond are at a table and like, it's so
- 50:53awkward. And it's like, are they trying
- 50:56to hint that? Like, they're actually dating
- 50:57now? Like, it's awkward, right?
- 50:59I don't know. I think she invited him over to
- 51:02break the news is what's happening here.
- 51:04There's so much. Food on the table, so much do.
- 51:07People really like if I'm with you and I have a table with
- 51:11food, I'm not gonna sit on like the complete opposite side if
- 51:15it's a long table like if we are like a full rooms distance
- 51:20apart. Yeah, like I'm.
- 51:21Going to go over there and sit next to you.
- 51:23Like I don't want to have to shout to like have a
- 51:25conversation. Surely that table has a leaf
- 51:27that can just pop, yeah, you know.
- 51:30She also strikes me in universe of this movie as the type to be
- 51:33too lazy to do that. Yeah, that would have been
- 51:36Jones. Thing yeah.
- 51:36And since she fired Jones, she hasn't hired a new assistant
- 51:39yet. Yeah.
- 51:39And the chef was like, no, I'm not doing that because we, we
- 51:42definitely agreed amongst ourselves she did not cook that.
- 51:45Food. I made you an obscene amount of
- 51:46corn and all kinds of various types of foods.
- 51:50There are there are five cups of corn in that serving dish.
- 51:53I had to custom order this bowl just to hold this amount of
- 51:56corn. It was an obscene amount of
- 51:58corn. It was kind of crazy.
- 52:00It makes me think of like the meals that my grandma would cook
- 52:03when we would go visit her, but like that was when we had the
- 52:06whole family together. Yeah, exactly.
- 52:08Not just. Feeding a lot of people, yeah.
- 52:10And it was always like special, you know?
- 52:12Maybe it's just cuz like it's speed up pregnancy hormones.
- 52:15Like I'm really hungry. I need for two now.
- 52:17Well, three, technically. And that's when she tells them
- 52:20that she's pregnant and. He's like, oh cool, who is it?
- 52:25And she was like, no, I haven't slept with anybody else in a
- 52:27year. And he goes, well, it's not me
- 52:29because I had a vasectomy as soon as I moved to Hollywood,
- 52:31which, you know what, props to him.
- 52:33He knew he didn't want to have children and he knew he wanted
- 52:35to fuck around. You know what?
- 52:36He did the responsible thing. You know what?
- 52:38You know what though? Vasectomies aren't 100%
- 52:41foolproof, you can still have kids with those, they just you
- 52:43have greatly reduced. It yeah, you have to be tested.
- 52:46You have to have your sperm count tested like six weeks
- 52:48after and and I think it's like every few years after.
- 52:51Yeah, like, I mean, it's not a guarantee, so it could still
- 52:54have been him. Read a lot of Reddit people,
- 52:58that's how you learn these. Things.
- 53:00That's true, yeah. Just definitely curate your
- 53:03Reddit homepage because you don't want most of Reddit,
- 53:06believe me. Yeah, that's most social media
- 53:07in general. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:09So this whole time he's basically saying that's not my
- 53:12kid and also you can't be Mary anymore because my Mary can't be
- 53:16pregnant, which. And she's like, but that's the
- 53:18whole thing, he goes. And I have a very specific
- 53:20vision and it involves her being hot.
- 53:22Yeah, and then Tiffany is overhearing this whole
- 53:24conversation. And she gets angry.
- 53:26And when she gets angry, she gets a little stabby.
- 53:29So she calls a recovery hotline. And she tells the person on the
- 53:32other end she's like, I feel like I'm going to slip up.
- 53:35And he goes, do you have access to a meeting?
- 53:36She goes, no, I tend to freak people out, so that's not a good
- 53:39option for me. And goes, well, you know, tell
- 53:41us about his own experience. You know, saying, like, you
- 53:44know, sometimes slip UPS happen. Like, I had to slip up.
- 53:46It was not pretty. Like Rome wasn't built in a day
- 53:49like. This guy spoke to her like her
- 53:53mom spoke to her. Yeah, it's like what it was and
- 53:56it really connected with her. And here's the thing.
- 54:00Like, no, I'm not going to go into that because it's recovery
- 54:05is such a whole complex thing and it is definitely it's not
- 54:07linear. I think.
- 54:09But in this instance, I think in her mind, it gave her an excuse.
- 54:13Yes. She's like, OK, we can slip up
- 54:15and it'll be OK. I'm going to do this then.
- 54:17There's a there's a difference between having compassion for
- 54:20yourself and just like excusing, like giving into yeah behavior.
- 54:24Like she could have controlled herself here maybe.
- 54:26I don't know, I'm not a killer. Just play that in my trial too,
- 54:29please. But like, yeah, I don't know
- 54:33what that urge is like, but at the same time, I don't know.
- 54:36Like for other addictions, like, it's definitely really strong,
- 54:39but like I said, there's a difference between having
- 54:41compassion for yourself and just being like, well, nobody's
- 54:44perfect, so I'm going to do it anyway.
- 54:45Yeah, exactly. Which is what Tiffany is doing.
- 54:47The latter. Yeah, exactly.
- 54:48Yeah, So Jennifer gets a phone call and she decides to go take
- 54:53it in the other room while Redmond continues to eat.
- 54:56And like, we can hear in the background, like, basically
- 54:58she's answering questions about the last time she saw Pete
- 55:01Peters, which is John Waters, Yeah.
- 55:04And is like, giving an alibi, basically.
- 55:06And she doesn't see what's happening, which is Tiffany
- 55:09under the table, disemboweling Redmond.
- 55:12Yeah, she tells him. The drop dead, what she does.
- 55:14Yeah, just like a drop dead right there in the giant bowl of
- 55:17corn. Yep.
- 55:19And Glenn Glenda sees this and their eye touches.
- 55:24Tiffany tells Chucky that the pregnancy is accelerated, 'cause
- 55:28he's like, I can't take nine months of this.
- 55:30And she goes, well, that's not how this works.
- 55:33So it's the next day and we see how it works because Jennifer
- 55:37wakes up and she is like fully pregnant.
- 55:40Now, yeah, she is basically to term and she calls Joan and
- 55:44she's freaking out and Tiffany has jumped in and it's like a
- 55:47three-way call, a la Mean Girl. This is fun.
- 55:50It's. So fun.
- 55:52And like, here's the thing too, is that you can tell Jennifer
- 55:55Tilley, like, as an actress, is doing slightly different tones
- 56:00when she is voicing Tiffany. This is when she is playing
- 56:03herself. And that's very important later
- 56:07to like, like kind of hint that the soul transfer was
- 56:11successful. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:13But like in this instance specifically, it's really funny
- 56:16because Jennifer, the character, thinks that Joan is making fun
- 56:21of her, and Joan thinks that Jennifer is just babbling.
- 56:26Yeah, I don't even. I would be so confused if I were
- 56:29her. And also there's violence being
- 56:31heard on the other end because as Chucky has taken like a piece
- 56:36of fabric or something and it's like strangled it on top of
- 56:39Jennifer. Yes, and is trying to like
- 56:41basically subdue her so they can tie her up.
- 56:45Tiffany like in the midst of all of this, like so Tiffany hangs
- 56:48up the call and in the midst of like trying to get Jennifer like
- 56:53muffled basically a picture, the picture of the murder from the
- 56:58night before falls out of Chucky's overalls.
- 57:01And so Tiffany argues with him about this, and then they argue
- 57:09about Glenn or Glenda just. Like if they're a boy or a girl.
- 57:14And they're like, well. What about what I want?
- 57:17Yes, Which I thought was like, really important.
- 57:19And then this is where they have their moment, where they're
- 57:21like, well, sometimes I feel like a boy, Sometimes I feel
- 57:23like a girl. I want to be both, but I don't
- 57:27want to be a killer. And Chucky is like, well, I do
- 57:32want to kill. It's a choice.
- 57:34I'm choosing this. And like, in frustration, bangs
- 57:38on the closet door. And that's when Redmond's body
- 57:40falls out. He's like.
- 57:41Well, well, well, little misprints.
- 57:44Like crying. And she's like, why?
- 57:45Would they? Build it a day.
- 57:48And then this is when Tiffany calls Stan to lure him in
- 57:53because they need a new body now, because they can't transfer
- 57:55Chucky in a Roman's body. Yeah.
- 57:57They've peaked the flirtation between Jennifer and Stan, and
- 58:00they're like, well, this will work.
- 58:02Yeah. So when they get him in the
- 58:03house and they tie him up. Yeah, I mean, it's that easy.
- 58:05Yeah. So like Joan is now they're
- 58:08about to do the the chant. Yeah, it's like storming
- 58:11outside. Joan is outside banging on the
- 58:13door at trying to check on Jennifer because of the weird
- 58:17conversation. They.
- 58:18Had before and she finds where like the hitting key is and
- 58:21comes in. It sets off the alarm.
- 58:24It's a silent alarm so the police are alerted but Chucky
- 58:27and Tiffany don't know that that's happening.
- 58:29Meanwhile, upstairs, they're trying to deliver the baby, and
- 58:35Joan gets upstairs, sees the scene that's happening, and we
- 58:39see a doll in a wedding dress come out, take a Hairspray can
- 58:45and a lighter and light Joan on fire before Chucky has a chance
- 58:48to stab her. And so he's like, see, I knew
- 58:52this is what you wanted all along.
- 58:53And then the doll turns around, and it's actually, in this
- 58:56moment, I'm going to say Glenda, because that's how they're
- 58:58presenting, is in the dress. And they call themselves Glenda.
- 59:02And Tiffany comes out and kind of slaps them out of it because
- 59:06they're, like, very manic and. Yeah.
- 59:09And it's frightening, actually. So then Jennifer goes into labor
- 59:15and delivers a boy. Yay and.
- 59:17They're like, OK, cool. It's we're gonna, we're gonna
- 59:22have a son, Glenn. Except then Jen has another baby
- 59:28and it's a girl that's twins. So they're like, OK, cool, we've
- 59:34got a big family now. They start to do the soul
- 59:37transfer and then Tiffany's like, wait, no, our child needs
- 59:40to choose which one they're gonna go into.
- 59:43Yeah, this is a weird moment because they gotta make that
- 59:47decision. But at the same time, both of
- 59:49them are pressuring Chucky to do the thing, and it's like he
- 59:52doesn't know what to do. He's like, I like, who am I
- 59:56gonna choose? And then they're shouting and
- 59:59then the cops are outside and they're like, we got to go.
- 1:00:01We got to go now. And then this is where he's
- 1:00:03like, you know, what is this what it takes to be human?
- 1:00:05I don't want to do it. It's too complicated.
- 1:00:08I don't want to be your driver. I don't want you to be the star.
- 1:00:10I am infamous as a killer. We have a good life.
- 1:00:14He's like, I'm happy I get to kill.
- 1:00:16I've got a beautiful wife. We've got this new child like we
- 1:00:19can be. And I like that he, you know,
- 1:00:21isn't just saying like, oh, I just don't want to like.
- 1:00:27Have to deal with you like being like I like that he likes the
- 1:00:31life that they have together now like he he mentions her
- 1:00:35specifically. As if he could have them as a
- 1:00:37family as is. He would like that, yeah.
- 1:00:39And she's like, well, I want more.
- 1:00:43So I I'm leaving and I'm taking the kid.
- 1:00:45Yep. So he's like, nobody leaves me
- 1:00:48and then he takes a knife and throws it.
- 1:00:50But then the Stan has. Stan.
- 1:00:53Yeah, he he freed himself and jumps in front of the knife,
- 1:00:57which kills him. So then Tiffany.
- 1:00:59Wild, because it wasn't gonna hit Jennifer, it was gonna hit
- 1:01:01Tiffany. I don't know what he was he, he
- 1:01:04I. Don't think he knew what he was
- 1:01:05doing. This whole movie he doesn't.
- 1:01:08Yeah, Stan is kind of Dan's kind of a real Paul.
- 1:01:12Yeah, That's an inside joke. Yeah, or.
- 1:01:14Else watch dream scenario. Yeah, watch dream scenario.
- 1:01:16Yeah. And yeah.
- 1:01:18So like Tiffany then takes a knife and throws it at Chucky,
- 1:01:21which does hit Chucky. Yeah.
- 1:01:23And they have like their whole little squabble there and the
- 1:01:26cops come in, bust everything up.
- 1:01:28So. They get Jen to the hospital and
- 1:01:30she's saying that she wants her babies and her agents there.
- 1:01:33And he's like, listen, the cops cleared you of murder, but they
- 1:01:37haven't declared you mentally competent.
- 1:01:39So I suggest you keep this story about the dolls to yourself.
- 1:01:44And when he leaves, we see a syringe come up and a sedative
- 1:01:48gets put into her IV line. And man, that feeling of like it
- 1:01:55instantly getting into your. System.
- 1:01:57I can tell you that is super fucking accurate.
- 1:02:00The way she's like all of a sudden, like, whoa.
- 1:02:03Yeah, you can't even walk. She tries to, like, get out of
- 1:02:05the room and she just collapses on the floor.
- 1:02:07There is Tiffany and Glen Gwinda.
- 1:02:10They are about to do the transfer over for Tiffany into
- 1:02:15Jennifer, but then Chucky takes the axe and Jack Nicholson's his
- 1:02:19way through the door. Except he doesn't remember the
- 1:02:22line. Yeah, so Tiffany is like
- 1:02:26completing the chant real quick before Chucky can get in.
- 1:02:29But just as she finishes up, he comes in, hits her with the axe.
- 1:02:33And as she's, like, starting to die, like, she says her goodbye
- 1:02:36to Glenn Glenda. And then they decide they're
- 1:02:40gonna fight Chucky to avenge their mother.
- 1:02:43Yeah. It's like Jennifer Tilly,
- 1:02:47Tiffany and Glenn Glenda all just like, fighting.
- 1:02:50Yeah, except, well, Glenn Glenda's doing some martial arts
- 1:02:54smooths. Yeah.
- 1:02:56And Jennifer Tilley or Tiffany, I guess at this point, takes the
- 1:03:00axe and tosses it over to them. And then they axe Chucky and
- 1:03:04then like completely dismember him and he's like, I'm so proud
- 1:03:08of you as he's being killed by his own child.
- 1:03:11And then Glenn Gunda is crying because as far as they can tell,
- 1:03:16their mom is dead. They've just killed their dad.
- 1:03:18Except then Jennifer Tilley quote UN quote comes over and
- 1:03:22comforts them. And this is what I'm saying.
- 1:03:25Like you get the hint now even before this, like epilogue,
- 1:03:29because the voice is different. She's slightly higher pitched,
- 1:03:32which is how she voices. Tiffany is like a slightly
- 1:03:35higher register than her own natural speaking voice.
- 1:03:37It's nice that there's that difference there.
- 1:03:39It's it's a nice little detail. Yes.
- 1:03:42And I was like really paying attention for it this time
- 1:03:44because it was like, I want to see like the differences she
- 1:03:46does between. Yeah, because this is like one
- 1:03:48of the few opportunities where you actually get that in the
- 1:03:50series. Yes, well, until we get to the
- 1:03:52television. Yeah.
- 1:03:53Yeah, so five years later, we have Fulvia, I'm guessing like
- 1:04:00the nanny who is telling Jen that Glenn is a sweet little
- 1:04:05able baby Angel doll, but Glenda scares the.
- 1:04:09Shit out of her. Is evil and is like giving
- 1:04:12various examples like taking a picture of a bloody nose she
- 1:04:16gave another child to show and tell.
- 1:04:18Calling a cat a cunt, yeah. Which that's not like that.
- 1:04:24If I it's bad for a. Five year old but like.
- 1:04:28It's kind of funny. I mean, if you've ever had a cat
- 1:04:30like you call them all kinds of names.
- 1:04:31Dude, if any of our nieces or nephews like did that I would I
- 1:04:35would probably laugh. At I would laugh and depending
- 1:04:38on which niece or nephew it is, I may or may not tell their
- 1:04:40parents. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:43So, yeah. And it's like, and also like
- 1:04:45most of all, it's the way that she stares at me.
- 1:04:48She looks at me with the most hatred I've ever experienced.
- 1:04:52And then you can see in the background through the window,
- 1:04:54Glenda is just standing on the other side, just staring at her.
- 1:04:58That shot always creeped me out growing up.
- 1:05:01Yes. Whenever I always see that's
- 1:05:02like, that's so fucking weird. Yeah.
- 1:05:05So she's like, all right, I wanna get out.
- 1:05:07And then Tiffany slash from Jennifer Whatever and Tiffany at
- 1:05:11this point. Beats full via to death with the
- 1:05:14Tiffany doll. Yeah, she's like, OK, fine, you
- 1:05:16can go, it's fine. And yeah, just bludgeons or.
- 1:05:19And we see a flash of her eyes change.
- 1:05:22It was weird because it feels like that would have been the
- 1:05:25moment where they would have just like cut the movie.
- 1:05:26But then the movie keeps going. She like takes the body and
- 1:05:29drags it over to the closet. We cut over to Glenn, who walks
- 1:05:33over to their mom like, you know, talking, like showing the
- 1:05:37kids the Tiffany doll. And she's like, oh, Glenn,
- 1:05:40honey, you've got a present. Who's it from?
- 1:05:43Don't know. It doesn't say.
- 1:05:45And he they open up the box. As is, in Chucky series fashion,
- 1:05:51a giant box. Very large box, yes.
- 1:05:55Not full of groceries or clothing.
- 1:05:56No, it's a just. A severed arm.
- 1:05:59It's a severed arm that jumps up and attacks Glenn as they're
- 1:06:05twitching and peeing. Yeah, and it's the good guy arm.
- 1:06:08It's Chucky's arm. Yeah.
- 1:06:10So yeah, that's how the movie ends right there.
- 1:06:13You know what, I'm bumping it slightly to a nine cuz I think
- 1:06:15it's really fun, really enjoyable.
- 1:06:19It just leans into what it's got to work with.
- 1:06:23And I like that it, it provides a whole new layer of this story
- 1:06:28for us going forward because it's going to take this into a
- 1:06:30different trajectory. We're not going to be focusing
- 1:06:33on transferring souls the same way anymore going forward.
- 1:06:37And I think that's really important.
- 1:06:39It's well, it's weird because it kind of has a return to that in
- 1:06:42like the next two, but it but then it makes another turn.
- 1:06:45Yeah, it goes back into this like the waiter into the series.
- 1:06:49We go, yeah, it gets weird. But I, you know, I appreciate
- 1:06:53that this movie did its own thing and it wasn't afraid to,
- 1:06:56like, be different sets up apart.
- 1:06:58So I'll. I'll bump it up to seven.
- 1:07:00OK, so ending average is an 8, so we bumped up.
- 1:07:04What is the thing that you would change though if you wanted to
- 1:07:06give it an even slightly higher score?
- 1:07:10I'm OK with absurd moments at times in this franchise because
- 1:07:13it's been full of them throughout.
- 1:07:16But like it, I think that they may have went overboard with it.
- 1:07:21I look, I don't want to make any bad comments, but like Don
- 1:07:25Mancini, this was his first time taking full charge of the entire
- 1:07:29thing. And I think with that right
- 1:07:32there, you know, we've had some very accomplished directors do
- 1:07:35some previous movies and you can tell, you can see where they
- 1:07:39brought their expertise to that stuff because a lot of them have
- 1:07:42been parts of like big franchises and big movies in the
- 1:07:44past. But Don has just been like
- 1:07:47writing and he's been watching this stuff second hand.
- 1:07:49So like, maybe this is a little bit of an experience on his
- 1:07:52part. He didn't necessarily have like,
- 1:07:56as many people being like, hey, maybe we need to tweak this.
- 1:07:59This that's that was exactly what I was thinking.
- 1:08:01Like he didn't an editor, yeah. He didn't have that person there
- 1:08:05to say, hey, like, maybe like, I like where you're going.
- 1:08:07Let's do maybe like, this will be better.
- 1:08:10But you know, like, yeah, I guess just like, just keep it in
- 1:08:15check just a tad. Like, I like wackiness in it.
- 1:08:19But this movie got way more wacky than any of them.
- 1:08:23And I think that they realized after this one, like, OK, we
- 1:08:26maybe need to take a step back just a tad because none, none of
- 1:08:30the material after this goes like, really that bizarre with
- 1:08:34it. Yeah.
- 1:08:35They all kind of, I don't know, they, they find a better balance
- 1:08:38going forward. Yes, I think like, especially
- 1:08:42season 2 of Chucky, I think has like a really great balance
- 1:08:46between like the tone we have in this movie and the tone we're
- 1:08:50gonna get in the next two. Yeah, I agree it strikes.
- 1:08:53A really good balance and I think, I think, I think the
- 1:08:55longer format works better with what Don's vision is for the
- 1:08:58story too. I think so too.
- 1:09:00Cuz I think maybe some of this, you know, some of the complaints
- 1:09:03you have like, OK, well suddenly they're in Hollywood or suddenly
- 1:09:09Chucky and Glenn Glanda are like know where to find the
- 1:09:13paparazzo. I think some of that's just like
- 1:09:15a quick cut short storytelling, like instead of like, OK, we're
- 1:09:18not going to get into the boring logistics.
- 1:09:20Yeah, no. And I thought about that.
- 1:09:21I'm like, well, I mean really like if we're doing something
- 1:09:24where it's just wacky and like, who cares?
- 1:09:26Like it's, it's meant to just be a fun experience, but at the
- 1:09:30same time, you know, we're already this is the 5th movie.
- 1:09:35Yeah. Yeah, we're we're 5 movies in at
- 1:09:37this point. So I've had four movies
- 1:09:39beforehand of like what this series has been.
- 1:09:42Yeah. And then it goes way more off
- 1:09:44the rails than it had been previously.
- 1:09:47And it's kind of like it's like a shock.
- 1:09:50Yeah, a little bit. OK.
- 1:09:51So yeah, just like they they course correct just a tad bit
- 1:09:53more going forward and I think it improves the series overall.
- 1:09:58OK. But yeah, that's it.
- 1:10:00So what did Talia think? Well, she watched this movie.
- 1:10:05She really she was like lying there and just staring at the
- 1:10:07screen she liked. It she does, yeah.
- 1:10:12So I think Talia, I think Talia's gonna agree with me.
- 1:10:15I think she's gonna give it a nine, OK, because she really
- 1:10:18enjoys that They have their big happy.
- 1:10:20Family. Yeah, she does like that.
- 1:10:22She like she likes a good family story.
- 1:10:24Even though her mommy and daddy aren't perfect.
- 1:10:27Just like, yeah, Chucky and Tiffany.
- 1:10:30Yeah, exactly. Yeah, OK.
- 1:10:33And Zoe's ultimate warrior, I think Glenda.
- 1:10:39Yes, Glenda, like fully in Glenda mode with the lighter and
- 1:10:43the Hairspray, Yeah. Yes.
- 1:10:45If so, we could like have those items and like if she had
- 1:10:48thumbs. That would be how she would wake
- 1:10:49us up in the morning. Can you imagine if our cats had
- 1:10:52thumbs? God, we would be.
- 1:10:53It would be over with for us. Yeah, we're not.
- 1:10:56We they, we don't need them to have opposable.
- 1:10:58Thumbs, it's such. A terrible thought.
- 1:11:00Yeah. OK, we don't do dream sequel,
- 1:11:03but who did you relate to? Yeah, who did I relate to?
- 1:11:06OK, well, let's see. Car related to Joan who was
- 1:11:11trying to give Jennifer the advice like hey, is this really
- 1:11:15who you wanna be like? Yeah.
- 1:11:17This is not cool. This is not a good way to do it.
- 1:11:20And I liked her dedication to her as a person.
- 1:11:23She's like, I'm gonna write these letters just to make you
- 1:11:25feel special. You know, that That was a good
- 1:11:28person right there. Not that I'm a good person, but
- 1:11:31I I just you. Are a good.
- 1:11:33Person Well, thanks, but I I just related to her take on like
- 1:11:36man, this is not good. Don't don't be that person.
- 1:11:39Don't be a part of this. I guess I related to Jennifer
- 1:11:46Tilly because I too would love to be on a diet, but I love
- 1:11:51candy more. Candy always wins for everybody.
- 1:11:54Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:11:57Also just like, I don't know, I just want to be generous.
- 1:12:00I told so many people at Scarefest on Friday when we were
- 1:12:03in our Chucky and Tiffany cosplay, I was like, yeah, I'm
- 1:12:05just really trying to channel Jennifer Tilley.
- 1:12:07And I kept saying Jennifer Tilley instead of Tiffany, and
- 1:12:09it wasn't an accident. I got to ask, if I go over to
- 1:12:14our Chucky doll right now and reach into his overalls, will I
- 1:12:17find the candy bar? No, because I already ate it.
- 1:12:20OK, before we walked in here, before I came in here.
- 1:12:24OK, All right. I guess it's time for tackling.
- 1:12:31OK, yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw everything about family
- 1:12:37and now I'm just like getting a bunch of Fast and Furious.
- 1:12:40Quotes in my head. There's always room for family.
- 1:12:42Oh man, yeah, Rome wasn't built in the day.
- 1:12:51A home isn't built in a day. Oh, that's good.
- 1:12:54A home isn't built in a day. There we go.
- 1:12:56But that ties into their family drama, but also ties into
- 1:12:59Tiffany. Yeah, quote UN quote, struggling
- 1:13:02with their addiction. I like that that's that's a
- 1:13:04really good one. OK, A home isn't built in a day.
- 1:13:07All right, well then I think it's now time for us to go to
- 1:13:10our reviews. So we will start off with our
- 1:13:14Internet review. OK so obviously I picked a
- 1:13:17negative review because of where I knew we stood with this 1.
- 1:13:21So it's a one star on IMDb titled drives the Chucky
- 1:13:27franchise into the ground. This is the most idiotic and
- 1:13:31perverted movie I have ever seen.
- 1:13:33Chucky is or should I say was a legendary slasher.
- 1:13:37Everyone knows who Chucky the killer doll is now.
- 1:13:39However, no one is likely to care.
- 1:13:41I am disappointed in Don Mancini for making this crap fest and
- 1:13:45then telling the world he was gay.
- 1:13:47Thanks Don, nice to know. Oh OK, that's weird.
- 1:13:51I'm also disappointed in David Kirchner for supplying Chucky,
- 1:13:54Tiffany and Glenn. Brad Duriff could have turned
- 1:13:57the role of Chucky's voice down, but did he?
- 1:13:59No, he helped Don miss any Butcher, the biggest movie of
- 1:14:03his life. And last but not least, Jennifer
- 1:14:05Tilley, your career is over. She admits it in the film about
- 1:14:08500 times, and it's true, she's done one last thing.
- 1:14:12Child's Play was not a comedy either was two or three.
- 1:14:14Seat of Chucky sucks 0 out of 10.
- 1:14:17OK, that's some weird takes in there it.
- 1:14:20Feels also like homophobic. Yeah, that was a it felt
- 1:14:25homophobic right there. Yeah.
- 1:14:27Like like, OK, I can get the whole thing about it being a
- 1:14:30comedy and you're not like in that direction.
- 1:14:34But like the whole thing about like, you know, injecting the
- 1:14:36LGBT type themes into the movie. You know, that's I mean, the
- 1:14:40themes have been there. They've been a little bit more
- 1:14:42they've. Always been there, yeah.
- 1:14:43And he's always been very open about those themes being there.
- 1:14:46And also, you just kind of need to get over the fact that LGBT
- 1:14:50people exist and they deserve to have their stories shown in
- 1:14:53movies, too, yeah. Like, I think it's cool that he
- 1:14:56was able to like, at that time, make that like.
- 1:14:59Oh, you're stray? Cool for you bro.
- 1:15:01Yeah, nobody ever says that. Well, I mean, like at that time,
- 1:15:04I think it's really cool that he was able to make this type of
- 1:15:07movie, which is like a really that that's a tough movie to
- 1:15:12make back in the 2000s because it was a very homophobic time,
- 1:15:16just naturally, which this was written in 2007.
- 1:15:18So obviously it's a product of the time.
- 1:15:21Hopefully that person. Is changed.
- 1:15:22Maybe this person works for Universal.
- 1:15:25They're the ones, yeah. That they wrote.
- 1:15:27Yeah, yeah. They're probably, if they didn't
- 1:15:30change, then they're probably like a person on Twitter now
- 1:15:32saying like, I don't use pronoun.
- 1:15:34Yeah, I hope that they did. I hope this sucks.
- 1:15:37I hope for their their sake that they changed.
- 1:15:39I know I had some garbage takes in that era.
- 1:15:42I know that I probably still have some garbage takes now.
- 1:15:44But like, I'm gonna in a few years be like, oh, I'm glad I've
- 1:15:47changed as a person, and I hope that this person changed as a
- 1:15:49person. So OK with that aside though, I
- 1:15:52definitely understand people not like in that direction the movie
- 1:15:55goes in because it's so different totally from anything
- 1:15:59else in the franchise. It is very totally different,
- 1:16:02like you said, I guess cartoony at some point.
- 1:16:04I'm not necessarily mad about it the way a lot of people are, but
- 1:16:07I can get why. Like it would be a very big
- 1:16:11difference for what you've come to expect.
- 1:16:15Yeah, I mean, if if that's your favorite slasher, like I got
- 1:16:20upset with Halloween Ends. I know a lot of people love that
- 1:16:23movie, but you know, that's not the way that I wanted that
- 1:16:27character and that story to go. So that upset me.
- 1:16:31You know, I guess the same thing can be said for this right here.
- 1:16:33OK, yeah, same. Same deal I get.
- 1:16:36So let's check on the listeners. Let's see what everybody else
- 1:16:40has to say. So we will start off on
- 1:16:44Instagram with Michael E Howard, who says seed of Chucky is a fun
- 1:16:48ride. Jennifer Tilley playing Tiffany
- 1:16:50taking over Jennifer Tilley is such a great gag and very meta.
- 1:16:53Chucky trying to not kill. Trying to not kill for Glenn
- 1:16:58Glinda. There's so much to kick back and
- 1:17:00enjoy. The camp is high and the kills
- 1:17:02are fun. 8 out of 10. Yes, the camp is high and the
- 1:17:06kills are fun. I think that.
- 1:17:08If I ever make a movie, I want that to be like the the review.
- 1:17:12Yes, the camp is high and the kills are fun.
- 1:17:14That's all I want. Yeah, that's, that's a good
- 1:17:17endorsement right there. All right.
- 1:17:18And finally over on Twitter Ward Zombie says some may say this is
- 1:17:23the worst of the Chucky, but I think it is the best.
- 1:17:27I find the idea of the doll family just great.
- 1:17:29Gwen, Gwen to slash Gwen is a great character that needs more
- 1:17:33respect. A real highlight of the series
- 1:17:35and favorite of mine. I agree with all of that.
- 1:17:38I'm glad that we got people here that love this movie as much as
- 1:17:41you do. Yes, yeah.
- 1:17:44I love the movie, too. It's just I don't think I'm
- 1:17:46quite on the level as everybody else that we've talked about.
- 1:17:51Yeah. You three, you guys love this
- 1:17:54one. I like it a lot.
- 1:17:55I don't hate it for the reasons that other people hate it.
- 1:17:58It's fun. Yeah.
- 1:17:59So, OK, that does it for this week's episode.
- 1:18:03Next week we are going to be doing our final movie for
- 1:18:08October, and we're not doing a new movie.
- 1:18:10And the reason is because we didn't realize there were five
- 1:18:13Thursdays in October. Yeah, but we did decide that
- 1:18:16because we actually have an episode coming out on Halloween
- 1:18:21that we wanted to do the Halloweeniest of them all.
- 1:18:24Yeah, trick or treat. I mean, can you blame us?
- 1:18:27So if we didn't, I think Sam might have killed us.
- 1:18:29Exactly like we don't wanna. You've got to follow the rules.
- 1:18:33Yeah. So where can people watch that?
- 1:18:37So Trick or Treat is currently available to watch on Max
- 1:18:41YouTube Primetime, Hulu Premium, Sling TV Premium, Prime Premium,
- 1:18:46YouTube TV Premium, or you can rent it from Google Play or
- 1:18:49Fandango at home. We have talked about this movie
- 1:18:52before. It is an annual tradition for
- 1:18:53us. We watch it every single
- 1:18:54Halloween and we will watch it again on Halloween day after
- 1:18:58we've watched it for Yes, we have to otherwise Sam will kill.
- 1:19:04We watch it like as we have trick or treaters coming usually
- 1:19:06too. So yeah, it's a fantastic maybe.
