- 1:31Speaker 1: Hey everyone, welcome to another Tuesday, and we are here.
- 1:37Speaker 1: This is the last show of twenty twenty five, you guys,
- 1:44Speaker 1: the very last show again. My name is Patrese Brumble
- 1:50Speaker 1: and I am sc book gal A four three and
- 1:55Speaker 1: this show I'm just going to talk to you guys.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I did not want any yes, I didn't want any authors.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I didn't want any books. Because this show, I just
- 2:06Speaker 1: want to say thank you and reflect back on twenty
- 2:11Speaker 1: twenty five. This year has been wild, okay, and just
- 2:19Speaker 1: personally and professionally on both fronts and also politically with
- 2:26Speaker 1: the orange man in the seat. But you know we
- 2:28Speaker 1: ain't gonna go there, but I would like to say
- 2:31Speaker 1: I want to thank you guys for just being with
- 2:33Speaker 1: me every Tuesday night. I mean this, We're going into
- 2:37Speaker 1: season four, and if you had told me, like I
- 2:41Speaker 1: told you guys three years ago, that I would be
- 2:46Speaker 1: still doing this. And on top of that, weekly, not
- 2:52Speaker 1: bi weekly, we're singing weekly. So every Tuesday night, I'm
- 2:58Speaker 1: coming up here and I'm chilling with you guys, and
- 3:01Speaker 1: it has been a complete blast. You guys just don't
- 3:07Speaker 1: understand the individuals I have met, those who have put
- 3:14Speaker 1: a fire under me, and those who have encouraged me
- 3:20Speaker 1: because I seen within done, authors who have introduced me
- 3:25Speaker 1: to the new genre, Like this is the first time
- 3:28Speaker 1: this year I read a thriller and I read the
- 3:32Speaker 1: first two chapters and I wasn't scared, but I did
- 3:35Speaker 1: listen to her. She said, don't go past chapter two.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But I stepped out of my comfort zone. And that
- 3:45Speaker 1: felt wonderful. Okay, because y'all know I loved me some
- 3:52Speaker 1: shoot my band bangs. Like one of my patrons said,
- 3:56Speaker 1: I love the love, I love the romance, and I
- 3:59Speaker 1: love the street literature. And to step out of my
- 4:03Speaker 1: comfort zone and now reading paranormal, more self help and
- 4:08Speaker 1: a non fiction book that's not poetry me read that.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Never would think in a million years to have all
- 4:21Speaker 1: the authors that have been on my show, who presented
- 4:24Speaker 1: their books, who say that either their books came from
- 4:29Speaker 1: situations they have been through or their boots came from
- 4:33Speaker 1: characters talking to their heads. I thank you for being here.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Books that were about Missus Claus getting it down with
- 4:43Speaker 1: other people and then being a serial killer, to a
- 4:48Speaker 1: book about a little girl who has grandma's grandma's hands
- 4:55Speaker 1: and her relationship with her grandma. I thank you. Twenty
- 5:01Speaker 1: five has been me being more aware of the literary scene,
- 5:12Speaker 1: being more in tune to what you guys are reading,
- 5:18Speaker 1: what's popular, what's not, what's growing popular. Was able to
- 5:24Speaker 1: have one of my favorite authors, my literary baby Daddy,
- 5:30Speaker 1: Keith Kaarne Williams, on my show. That was an honor
- 5:34Speaker 1: because I've known him since oh god, you guys, since
- 5:39Speaker 1: our Reader's Emotion days, and that was more than fifteen
- 5:46Speaker 1: twenty years ago. So to see him progress and just
- 5:55Speaker 1: everyone I've had on here, I had someone to ask me, trace,
- 6:01Speaker 1: what are you looking for? In twenty twenty six, twenty
- 6:06Speaker 1: twenty six, I am looking for more authors who want
- 6:11Speaker 1: to get their books out there, who just want a
- 6:14Speaker 1: chance to talk about their book and their journey and
- 6:18Speaker 1: becoming an author. I would like to speak to illustrators,
- 6:25Speaker 1: those who are who create the books covers, those who
- 6:31Speaker 1: are editors. You guys need the same recognition as those authors,
- 6:37Speaker 1: because I would be crazy how many times have had
- 6:40Speaker 1: people come to me. Can you recommend an editor? Can
- 6:43Speaker 1: you recommend a promoter? Can you recommend a publishing house?
- 6:47Speaker 1: Can you recommend someone who designs cover? I get those
- 6:51Speaker 1: questions all the time in my inbox, So this year
- 6:53Speaker 1: I would like to open up the platform to have
- 6:55Speaker 1: individuals like them come through. Also in twenty twenty six,
- 7:04Speaker 1: the girl gonna try to go outside. So okay, my
- 7:09Speaker 1: baby girl is going into middle school, so I'm able
- 7:14Speaker 1: to loosen the reins of mommyhood. This is her last
- 7:19Speaker 1: year being a part of her dance company, and then
- 7:23Speaker 1: she's going to be entering into other things, so she
- 7:26Speaker 1: would like to do which would free up some time
- 7:30Speaker 1: for myself. So I am looking to go to starting
- 7:34Speaker 1: with just the little book functions that are here in the Southeast,
- 7:38Speaker 1: Because if you know your girl, I don't like the fly.
- 7:44Speaker 1: So I know this the Love and the Carolinas just
- 7:47Speaker 1: coming up in January. I know that there is the
- 7:51Speaker 1: Bee Love that's coming up in October twenty twenty six.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I do want to go to this too. I'm hearing
- 7:58Speaker 1: in the wind that they're is spill the tea that
- 8:02Speaker 1: might be coming back, and I want to say, that's
- 8:04Speaker 1: in Myrtle Beach. I'm looking to go to places like
- 8:09Speaker 1: that to be around the community, see what they did,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and maybe we can get that down here in Charleston
- 8:17Speaker 1: and take away that myth that all we are is
- 8:21Speaker 1: music and dancing, that we do have a little little
- 8:24Speaker 1: bit intellectual. This to us, even if it's raunchy. Recording
- 8:30Speaker 1: to the books that I read. Okay, what else do
- 8:34Speaker 1: I want? In twenty twenty six, twenty twenty six, and
- 8:38Speaker 1: I'm telling y'all for months, for a year that I'm
- 8:46Speaker 1: going to be publishing this book. Me and the co
- 8:52Speaker 1: author had a long discussion in Distant Treats will be
- 9:01Speaker 1: out in February. We are down to looking at covers,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and by January first the book will be in the
- 9:11Speaker 1: hands of an editor, so your girl will finally well.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I have the title of author, but finally have a
- 9:21Speaker 1: book out there. I do have a journal, but I
- 9:26Speaker 1: finally have a book out there. So that's another thing
- 9:28Speaker 1: I'm doing in twenty twenty six, twenty twenty six, first
- 9:34Speaker 1: professional lead at work and professionally with the podcast. I
- 9:40Speaker 1: am wanting to have authors, local authors in the eight
- 9:45Speaker 1: four to three Charleston area and now we're eight four
- 9:49Speaker 1: three eighty five four Charleston area to do book talks
- 9:53Speaker 1: about their books. This is one of my desires that
- 9:57Speaker 1: I have. After doing the show in twenty twenty five,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I had a lot of authors that were from the
- 10:05Speaker 1: Charleston area, the Charleston, North Charleston, Somerville, Latson, Mount Pleasant.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I had authors from this area and I would love
- 10:15Speaker 1: for them to come either on my podcast or hey,
- 10:19Speaker 1: let's come to the library. We can sit down chat books.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You know. That's another thing I'm wanting to do in
- 10:25Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. And what else the reviews they're coming back.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'm been doing a lot of reading, which is really RESTful. Okay,
- 10:40Speaker 1: for the past two weeks I have it's always during
- 10:45Speaker 1: this Christmas New Year's time, where as in work, my
- 10:48Speaker 1: daughters off a school and I would have to take
- 10:52Speaker 1: the time off to be with her or you know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: we just have a lot of user to lose the time.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So me and my lovely crack Kindle, which is right
- 11:02Speaker 1: here behind me. See it's crack, you guys, let me
- 11:06Speaker 1: see if you can see it. Well, there's a big
- 11:10Speaker 1: crack sitting right up here. We have been having a
- 11:16Speaker 1: ball at night. If you really know me, you know
- 11:19Speaker 1: I don't sleep at night. I have a problem with that.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So me and old Trustee have been reading a lot
- 11:27Speaker 1: for the past week. We've been doing a lot of
- 11:29Speaker 1: books about New Year's a subject of New Year's love,
- 11:35Speaker 1: finding love, murder, fights, whatever. If it had New Year
- 11:39Speaker 1: and I have it already on my tablet, I was
- 11:42Speaker 1: reading it. Another thing I'm wanting to do in twenty
- 11:45Speaker 1: twenty six with the reviews is we're giving We're giving
- 11:51Speaker 1: individuals a chance to do the video reviews or just
- 11:57Speaker 1: a simple view or just a some just putting on
- 12:01Speaker 1: good Reads. And that's it. We have that going on.
- 12:09Speaker 1: What else when it comes to books for reviews? My
- 12:12Speaker 1: A to Z challenge? Okay, I always try to do
- 12:15Speaker 1: a challenge every year and always like we three months
- 12:22Speaker 1: two it's blown the pieces. But I saw this challenge
- 12:28Speaker 1: with another friend and she's gonna be my accountability partner. Okay.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It's called the A to Z Challenge. Okay. There are
- 12:36Speaker 1: groups that I have placed the A to Z Challenge in,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and I am accent authors that give me a book
- 12:43Speaker 1: for every letter of the alphabet. Okay. I am going
- 12:49Speaker 1: to write those down in my lovely low notebook here
- 12:53Speaker 1: and we're gonna start reading. Okay, and those books that
- 12:58Speaker 1: are on the A to Z Challenge will have a
- 13:01Speaker 1: video review. So look for those posts. They're on all
- 13:08Speaker 1: of my social media. They're on the Crew social media.
- 13:11Speaker 1: If you look at the bottom, you see it all
- 13:13Speaker 1: down there. Then it's in Black Girl who Reads, Black
- 13:18Speaker 1: Authors Association, I Love Urban Fiction, African American Authors Association,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and Mona Promotes. And then there's another group. But if
- 13:40Speaker 1: you go on my social media you will see that
- 13:43Speaker 1: it's sharing. It's a white blackground want to reminiscence at
- 13:47Speaker 1: Z reading lists. Okay. So I won't say that your
- 13:52Speaker 1: book will get on that list. I cannot guarantee because
- 13:55Speaker 1: I am going according to how it is given. It
- 13:59Speaker 1: was placed on the it was placed on the thread.
- 14:04Speaker 1: But authors can only have one book I've had authors
- 14:09Speaker 1: that put the whole catalog, but as an author, you
- 14:12Speaker 1: can only do one book. Okay, what else? Mid January
- 14:20Speaker 1: the books will be open for new interviews. But in
- 14:24Speaker 1: the month of February, the first week it's going to
- 14:29Speaker 1: be the Scie Book gal Friends Awards. We'll talk about that.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Aspiring Authors, we'll talk about that in the memory. But
- 14:36Speaker 1: I am looking for two children's authors I would love
- 14:40Speaker 1: to interview in February. Okay, two children's authors. If you
- 14:46Speaker 1: know someone who's a children's author, have them contact me
- 14:50Speaker 1: so that we can do an interview with them. Okay,
- 14:54Speaker 1: And that is for a Black Children's Book Week. I
- 14:58Speaker 1: know we celebrate a week, but I still want to
- 15:00Speaker 1: do to authors. Okay. What else do we have going
- 15:06Speaker 1: on in twenty twenty six? That's what we have going
- 15:15Speaker 1: on right now for that far, for the reading and
- 15:20Speaker 1: reviewing part. But the biggest thing that I have going
- 15:25Speaker 1: on right now, you guys, Nominations are closed for the
- 15:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty six Book Gallant Aspiring Author's Awards. Okay, the
- 15:36Speaker 1: nominations are close. I have tallied up. I have the
- 15:43Speaker 1: list now. Remember I said when Chaneward first, I am
- 15:48Speaker 1: going to come on and I am going to read
- 15:54Speaker 1: the nominees, okay, and then the voting will start. Okay,
- 16:01Speaker 1: so you have one month. Nope, take that back three
- 16:09Speaker 1: weeks because I need a week to do the Italian.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Three weeks to vote for your favorite in each category.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I would like to thank everyone that nominated themselves their
- 16:21Speaker 1: favorite book or book they heard. Okay, thank you, thank you,
- 16:27Speaker 1: thank you. All right, So January first, the nominees will
- 16:33Speaker 1: be announced, and then voting will start the first week
- 16:39Speaker 1: in February, the first Tuesday, and February will be the
- 16:43Speaker 1: day that we want to announce the winners. So that
- 16:47Speaker 1: will be February third, at eight o'clock, the first show
- 16:54Speaker 1: of season four, I will announce the winners of the
- 16:58Speaker 1: book gall aspiring author. There's a ward, It's okay. Make
- 17:02Speaker 1: sure you're tuned in, authors, promoters, book clubs. Make sure
- 17:09Speaker 1: you are watching your inboxes, because I am going to
- 17:13Speaker 1: personally inbox you and tell you if you have been nominated. Okay,
- 17:20Speaker 1: what else do we have in twenty twenty six? That's all.
- 17:27Speaker 1: That's all that I can think of right now. Now,
- 17:29Speaker 1: y'all want the trees? Why are you looking all over
- 17:31Speaker 1: the place because me I have to visually see, so
- 17:35Speaker 1: that's why I'm looking all over the place. But before
- 17:40Speaker 1: we leave the night, my authors, when we talk to
- 17:45Speaker 1: each other after the we've done the show and everything,
- 17:48Speaker 1: it was like, I bet you can't answers your own
- 17:50Speaker 1: fun questions. So, you guys, I'm gonna answer my fun questions.
- 18:00Speaker 1: If I can make or take a song and make
- 18:09Speaker 1: it my theme song for twenty twenty five, and it
- 18:14Speaker 1: has to be a nineties R and B hit or
- 18:21Speaker 1: R and B song, what would I choose? Now? I
- 18:26Speaker 1: just came off that with the top of my head,
- 18:28Speaker 1: you guys, So now I got to think about the answer.
- 18:31Speaker 1: A nineties R and B song that would be the
- 18:33Speaker 1: theme of my life in twenty twenty five. Wow, I
- 18:50Speaker 1: would say it would have to be is over now
- 18:52Speaker 1: bive on twelve. And I know y'all thinking, what the
- 18:56Speaker 1: reason why I chose that song, you guys, is because
- 18:58Speaker 1: of twenty twenty five. I close a lot of books.
- 19:01Speaker 1: There's one book that's still open, but I close a
- 19:04Speaker 1: lot of books. And one of one of my biggest
- 19:07Speaker 1: books was Fear, Fear of succeeding, not believing in myself,
- 19:18Speaker 1: believing in how my my girls showed Trevita believing in
- 19:22Speaker 1: the journey. So that's why I was saying my song
- 19:26Speaker 1: will be one twelve is over now because I had
- 19:28Speaker 1: the photos in the trash. It's like, okay, even with
- 19:34Speaker 1: right now, if you guys were if you guys were here,
- 19:36Speaker 1: you were seeing my setup is totally different. Okay, it's
- 19:42Speaker 1: more unified, it's more professional, and it gets me the
- 19:46Speaker 1: urge and say, all right, let's see what we're doing.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So now when I get off the shows on Tues tonight,
- 19:51Speaker 1: I'm staying back. I'm putting my daughter to bed, and
- 19:55Speaker 1: I'm coming back in pre recording stuff. Okay, because guess
- 19:59Speaker 1: what I have time. I'm doing organization and if I
- 20:03Speaker 1: want to excel, and I want to make sure and
- 20:07Speaker 1: help these authors get the recognition that they need, and
- 20:11Speaker 1: I gotta do my part. So that would be my song,
- 20:17Speaker 1: all right. So Lifetime calls and they say, we want
- 20:23Speaker 1: to do a biopic of you. Who would you give
- 20:26Speaker 1: the honor a plain you? If I had to give
- 20:37Speaker 1: someone the honor of playing me, it would have been
- 20:43Speaker 1: my great grandmother. Not my great grandmother. I'm sorry, my
- 20:46Speaker 1: grandmother burnmel Elizabeth Grimble and Wilhelmina Simmons. My two grandnees
- 20:58Speaker 1: made such impacts in me. I find myself saying some
- 21:05Speaker 1: of the stuff that they said. I find myself doing
- 21:09Speaker 1: some of the stuff that they did. And if I
- 21:12Speaker 1: had to choose someone to play me, I would put
- 21:16Speaker 1: both of them together, and I think that would be me.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Now I know that would be me. Okay, who would
- 21:26Speaker 1: I get to play my daughter? That little girl to see?
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yan didn't tell me that little girls were so spikechedy.
- 21:36Speaker 1: No one told me that. Okay, raising my now twenty
- 21:43Speaker 1: four year old son who I am so blessed and
- 21:47Speaker 1: honor to be his mom, James Smith, the third son,
- 21:50Speaker 1: I want to thank you for encouraging your mom, being
- 21:55Speaker 1: my backup, and really sometimes he and a role model
- 22:01Speaker 1: for me because sometimes you guys, we have to learn
- 22:04Speaker 1: from my kids. You know, we as parents, we don't
- 22:07Speaker 1: know it all all the time. But he's been helping
- 22:10Speaker 1: me learn patience and because sometimes I'm like, look I
- 22:14Speaker 1: just ain't got time. I'm about to exits stage left.
- 22:18Speaker 1: But he'll help me think through situations and he has
- 22:21Speaker 1: it on YouTube and twitch channel and he would give
- 22:26Speaker 1: me ideas. So I would like to say son, I
- 22:30Speaker 1: am so proud of you. Upon you, I thank you.
- 22:34Speaker 1: But he was easy raising. Now there was some tumultual times,
- 22:38Speaker 1: but he was good. But none of y'all warned me
- 22:42Speaker 1: about these girls. Oh my god, I love my daughter,
- 22:48Speaker 1: but she is spicy, like no one told me these
- 22:52Speaker 1: little girls were like this. But if I had to
- 22:56Speaker 1: get somebody to play her, y'all would think I'm playing.
- 23:00Speaker 1: But I have to say, Kekei Palma. Keki Palma has
- 23:04Speaker 1: fifty million hats, but she keeps that strong personality. So
- 23:09Speaker 1: I know of y'all seeing my daughter on Black Diamond Show,
- 23:13Speaker 1: she gets all timant, Yeah, my mom. When that camera
- 23:19Speaker 1: goes off and she's really in her element, it's a
- 23:23Speaker 1: total different ball game. Okay. She's a part of a
- 23:27Speaker 1: dance company here in Charleston with her school. When she
- 23:32Speaker 1: gets on the stage, it's a total different child. And everybody's, oh,
- 23:39Speaker 1: she's great. She has that you know, she has that
- 23:42Speaker 1: charisma and this this, and I'm like, y'all talk about
- 23:45Speaker 1: my child. But then when I sit back and I
- 23:49Speaker 1: watch her, I see it. So if I had to
- 23:54Speaker 1: get somebody to play her, it would be Keky Palma,
- 23:59Speaker 1: my big man. If I had to get somebody to
- 24:03Speaker 1: play my big man, which is my son. He's like
- 24:09Speaker 1: a gentle giant. I would say Room of Stutter. Okay,
- 24:17Speaker 1: Rumor Stutter had the charisma. He was huge, but he
- 24:21Speaker 1: was so sweet, so nice. You have never seen him
- 24:25Speaker 1: out of pocket? Well I haven't, so that's why we
- 24:28Speaker 1: choose Room of Stutter. I have three minutes, and with
- 24:34Speaker 1: just three minutes, I want to say some thank you
- 24:36Speaker 1: you guys. I've already thanked my kids for being understanding
- 24:39Speaker 1: and know Tuesday, Nun at eight o'clock get out of
- 24:42Speaker 1: mama's room because she got to do something. So James
- 24:45Speaker 1: and Ayah. I want to thank you to my sisters
- 24:50Speaker 1: La Trees, yes her name is so Teres what we
- 24:54Speaker 1: call her Canvas. And to my sisters Ashley, thank you
- 24:58Speaker 1: guys for being the best Auntie eats, to my crew
- 25:02Speaker 1: and being some great sisters. Even though y'all may get
- 25:05Speaker 1: on my little last nerve sometime, but I love you guys,
- 25:10Speaker 1: into my little gift fresh crew, my three nephews, King,
- 25:14Speaker 1: Eric and t l Auntie love you. But I will
- 25:17Speaker 1: punch y'all in y'all right eye now, I'm just kidding.
- 25:21Speaker 1: We always do that to each other. But Auntie is
- 25:24Speaker 1: so so proud and honored to see you guys grow
- 25:29Speaker 1: into the young men that you have become. To the crew,
- 25:35Speaker 1: Trevita Latanya should should shut Doctor Chen, I'll founder, Angela,
- 25:46Speaker 1: Thomas Smith, Black Diamonds, Zachary Cheyenne and all the new
- 25:53Speaker 1: members that y'all gonna see in season four. Thank you, guys,
- 25:58Speaker 1: Thank you for your being there, Thank you for ideas.
- 26:03Speaker 1: When we get together, we laugh and we joke. I
- 26:06Speaker 1: can't wait till tomorrow night where we're all gonna be
