- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody, y Welcome into the Irish Series podcast presented by
- 0:09Speaker 1: er Lingus Michael here as we here set for a
- 0:12Speaker 1: novel week of Steers football week coming up on top
- 0:14Speaker 1: of the four and two Pittsburgh Steelers taking on the
- 0:17Speaker 1: Green Bet Packers, which we'll talk about in Sunday Night
- 0:19Speaker 1: Football very shortly till I have to be joined by
- 0:23Speaker 1: Jimmy English year to that. Jimmy, it's good to chat
- 0:25Speaker 1: to you against their How are you doing first and four?
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'm very well, Michael. I feel like I haven't seen
- 0:30Speaker 2: you or talk to you since the game in Dublin,
- 0:32Speaker 2: which is so seems like so long agoing nowt it's
- 0:34Speaker 2: almost a month actually since our Steelers were here playing
- 0:38Speaker 2: against the Messota Vikings and crow Park, which is it's
- 0:40Speaker 2: hard to believe. But now things are good and we're
- 0:43Speaker 2: looking forward to a historic matchup against the Packers on
- 0:47Speaker 2: Sunday Night Football. The Rogers revenge tour continues. He's down
- 0:51Speaker 2: the Jets, hopefully he can do the same against against
- 0:53Speaker 2: the Packers. And look, I'm heading to Pittsburgh and now
- 0:57Speaker 2: you're heading up for this game. I'm heading shortly as well,
- 1:00Speaker 2: so looking forward to getting back to the steel City
- 1:02Speaker 2: and catching up with everyone over there.
- 1:05Speaker 1: You're probably on a more expanded I'm literally in and
- 1:08Speaker 1: out and we'll talk about it in a week bit.
- 1:10Speaker 1: But no, here good the chatty against there, Like obviously
- 1:14Speaker 1: there's a lot to talk about from last week and
- 1:15Speaker 1: this week before we do that. It's funny you mentioned Dublin.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Like every time I like go on TikTok, I keep
- 1:21Speaker 1: seeing like people's and people we don't even I don't
- 1:23Speaker 1: even follow or whatever, people just like showing sharing photos
- 1:26Speaker 1: of that weekend and Dublin. It was really really special,
- 1:29Speaker 1: and it is hard to believe it's some months ago now,
- 1:31Speaker 1: Like it's absolutely mental.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, someday four we used to go, Michael, So you know,
- 1:36Speaker 2: you look back and I'm the same as seeing people
- 1:39Speaker 2: from all over the world. They're sharing memories of Dublin
- 1:42Speaker 2: on their social media, and it just goes to show
- 1:44Speaker 2: you how much of a special weekend it was not
- 1:47Speaker 2: just for Irish fans here, but for fans from all
- 1:49Speaker 2: around the world to travel over for the game. So look,
- 1:53Speaker 2: plenty more to come in regards to NFL and Dublin,
- 1:56Speaker 2: I'm sure, but hopefully we'll see our Steelers back. Yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 2: back here in the not so distance future. But in
- 2:02Speaker 2: the meantime we both get a chance to see them
- 2:04Speaker 2: play on home turf, an acerture, So that's a that's
- 2:07Speaker 2: a blessing in itself.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Touchwood, touch wood, No, look, it's it was really cool.
- 2:13Speaker 1: One thing that you've done that I haven't. And I'll
- 2:15Speaker 1: mention that you were over in London as well for
- 2:17Speaker 1: at least at least one game. Do you see much
- 2:20Speaker 1: black and gold? See many Steelers shirts? Do you know what?
- 2:23Speaker 2: I think? Dublin kind of ruined London for me, Michael,
- 2:26Speaker 2: to be honest with you, because it was such an
- 2:29Speaker 2: incredible weekend that you kind of go over to Tottenham.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And I don't get me wrong, the NFL do an
- 2:33Speaker 2: incredible job.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Big come down like it was, a big come like it.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Is it is. It's just not the same, especially when
- 2:40Speaker 2: you're going in and out. Anytime you get a chance
- 2:42Speaker 2: to travel to a different country to watch an NFL game,
- 2:45Speaker 2: it is it is a great opportunity and a great privilege.
- 2:48Speaker 2: So luck you're never gonna never gonna knock that. But
- 2:51Speaker 2: I don't think anything will ever ever top what we
- 2:54Speaker 2: had in Crow Park a few weeks ago.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I was out. I was out like the two fridays
- 2:59Speaker 1: before the games and them, And on the first Friday
- 3:02Speaker 1: I met four lads from Pittsburgh who were still in
- 3:06Speaker 1: Europe and I flew who flew out to London for
- 3:09Speaker 1: that game. And then a day later I was in
- 3:12Speaker 1: Belfast and met a couple from Pennsylvania who were at
- 3:15Speaker 1: the game the week before. It just shows you how
- 3:17Speaker 1: many people sort of flew over and not it's it's
- 3:19Speaker 1: really really cool and obviously really really special and it
- 3:22Speaker 1: was a very very special time. And let's talk around
- 3:25Speaker 1: last week. So obviously when you have a primetime Thursday
- 3:30Speaker 1: night game, and we'll not spend too long in it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: But the reality is to lose is one thing. I
- 3:37Speaker 1: think for me, to lose not fashion is another thing
- 3:39Speaker 1: because when you watch the game, I think like a
- 3:41Speaker 1: lot of us fought, especially throughout Jimmy, where you got
- 3:44Speaker 1: towards the end of the game that I don't know
- 3:46Speaker 1: what it was, there was a belief that they'll find
- 3:48Speaker 1: a way to make this work. Look, I think probably
- 3:51Speaker 1: the biggest talking point and maybe not the biggest negative point,
- 3:54Speaker 1: but the biggest thing to improve on probably has to
- 3:58Speaker 1: be how the defense played. Given up very and I'm
- 4:02Speaker 1: sure you'll elaborate this in the week. Second, but like
- 4:04Speaker 1: to see jo Flaccu coming in and look, props to him.
- 4:07Speaker 1: He had the hell of a game. There's some point
- 4:08Speaker 1: me saying otherwise. But he targeted Jamarchius sixteen times. And
- 4:14Speaker 1: if the Steelers defense is gonnave U one hundred and
- 4:16Speaker 1: sixty yards to one player, they need to find a way.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And we'll talk about the Packers down the stretch here.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They need to find a way to limit that and
- 4:23Speaker 1: to make it more difficult for him. That being said,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I think if you add a number of different elements
- 4:28Speaker 1: into it, in terms of the crowd, the fact that
- 4:30Speaker 1: the Bengals fans were massively up for it, I think
- 4:33Speaker 1: they played a massive factor. It's an indivision rivalry. There
- 4:36Speaker 1: was an opportunity to go five and five and two.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It's not happened. It's not going to be the way
- 4:43Speaker 1: it meant to be. But look, it's one of those things.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, obviously it was a disappointing result.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I'm glad I didn't stay up for it because I
- 4:52Speaker 2: was tempted to, but in the end I didn't. But look,
- 4:55Speaker 2: we're still top of the AFC North, Micael, A lot
- 4:57Speaker 2: of people are overlooking the fact that we're still division
- 4:59Speaker 2: leaders right now. If the season ended, we're still in
- 5:01Speaker 2: contention for for a for a playoff spot. Obviously, look
- 5:05Speaker 2: a very disappointing performance from the defense, one of the
- 5:08Speaker 2: highest paid defenses in the league.
- 5:10Speaker 1: T J.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Wiltman missing for three and a half quarters, only kind
- 5:12Speaker 2: of showed up towards the end where he and he
- 5:14Speaker 2: had half a sack. The middle of our defensive line
- 5:17Speaker 2: was nowhere to be seen. Chase Brown ran all over us,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and the fact that Joe Joe Flaka was only in
- 5:22Speaker 2: the building at pay Court Stadium for less and less
- 5:25Speaker 2: than ten days and had didn't even know all the
- 5:27Speaker 2: playbook or all the burbage, and the connection he displayed
- 5:30Speaker 2: with Jamara Chase was lucky. It was something else, and
- 5:34Speaker 2: I believe I do believe Jamaar Chase as well. It's
- 5:36Speaker 2: had a new franchise record for receptions in that game
- 5:39Speaker 2: against our secondary. So it didn't really matter who we
- 5:41Speaker 2: put on him, you know, whether it was jenn and Ramsey,
- 5:45Speaker 2: whether we Kwan Tornhill. He was just able to find
- 5:48Speaker 2: space and made big plays. And the fact that the
- 5:51Speaker 2: Bengals offense operating with a brand new quarterback put up
- 5:54Speaker 2: almost close to five hundred yards you know, through the
- 5:58Speaker 2: airin on the ground. That is obviously a big thing
- 6:00Speaker 2: that needs to be addressed against for this week coming
- 6:03Speaker 2: against the Packers, because you know that the Packers were
- 6:06Speaker 2: looking at that and looking at ways that they'll be
- 6:08Speaker 2: able to capitalize on those apparent weaknesses in our defense.
- 6:12Speaker 2: So look, Terror Lawston and the entire defensive unit needed massive,
- 6:15Speaker 2: massive effort this week. And that's all the players that
- 6:18Speaker 2: they put their hands up. They accepted that it wasn't
- 6:22Speaker 2: It wasn't. It wasn't acceptable and a big thing to fix.
- 6:26Speaker 2: But look on the bright side, then pat Rynman had
- 6:28Speaker 2: a really really big game. You'd love to see that.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I mean, he has been quiet really since since before Dublin.
- 6:33Speaker 2: He kind of got missing in that offense as well.
- 6:35Speaker 2: So to see him have two touchdowns on the day,
- 6:38Speaker 2: including that sixty earlier from Aaron Rodgers was fantastic. And
- 6:41Speaker 2: to see you know, Aaron Rodgers getting the tight ends
- 6:44Speaker 2: more involved in the passing game as well.
- 6:47Speaker 1: To look at where this offense is now to where
- 6:51Speaker 1: it was previously, seems night and day. I know it's early,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but you know, one thing we haven't even talked about
- 6:57Speaker 1: there is the run game. I know we didn't really
- 6:58Speaker 1: see Kenny Gamwell given of the game, but frankly because
- 7:01Speaker 1: Gillen Warren sort of took the chains and a meal.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It happened last week over one hundred and twenty yards
- 7:06Speaker 1: on the night itself, still putting thirty one points up
- 7:09Speaker 1: on the board. So taking the defense out of it,
- 7:11Speaker 1: I mean this offense. I know you've talked you only've
- 7:13Speaker 1: talked about a couple of factors in that game, but
- 7:15Speaker 1: across the board so far as we enter this week,
- 7:19Speaker 1: the offense is sneakily playing good here.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah, the offense has definitely come on as Aaron Rodgers
- 7:26Speaker 2: has gotten more comfortable in it, with the playbook and
- 7:30Speaker 2: with the team. He's showing a great connection with dk Metcalf,
- 7:33Speaker 2: who obviously is our clear cut number one receiver, and
- 7:36Speaker 2: they have connected on several deep touchdowns and they seem
- 7:40Speaker 2: to have a kind of a favorite rule which is
- 7:42Speaker 2: just a straight go route to the boundary and Aaron
- 7:45Speaker 2: Rodgers puts it up for Dk Mtcalf and nine times
- 7:48Speaker 2: out of tenants coming down with that ball. Run game definitely.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I mean, I mean that that game against the Bengals
- 7:53Speaker 2: was the first time the run game broke one hundred
- 7:55Speaker 2: yards all season, so it was nice to hit that benchmark.
- 7:58Speaker 2: And hopefully we can continue to do that and gain
- 8:01Speaker 2: more yards on the ground because obviously the run game,
- 8:03Speaker 2: you get that going, you take you take your pressure
- 8:05Speaker 2: off the passing game, you set up the passing game,
- 8:07Speaker 2: you can get your play action going and all that
- 8:09Speaker 2: sort of thing. But the Steelers have always been a
- 8:11Speaker 2: run first offense. They've always part of themselves on handing
- 8:14Speaker 2: the ball, So hopefully we continue to do that. And
- 8:16Speaker 2: obviously great to see Gen and Warren back as well
- 8:20Speaker 2: from injury and back with a bang. And look, it's
- 8:22Speaker 2: the offensive line can continue to block for him and
- 8:24Speaker 2: makes space for him, and that's just that that they'll
- 8:28Speaker 2: be that will be great and take kind of you know,
- 8:30Speaker 2: and fair point to kenneck game with as well. He
- 8:32Speaker 2: really has kind of take carry the load when Cash
- 8:35Speaker 2: and Dublin as well, especially in Dublin. They get two
- 8:38Speaker 2: touchdowns in Dublin. So I mean, look, offense is definitely
- 8:42Speaker 2: and I think it kind of offense has been carrying
- 8:45Speaker 2: us the past few weeks and I think the defense
- 8:47Speaker 2: needs to step up and play its part now. So
- 8:50Speaker 2: more consistency on defense, more consistency and offense. One thing
- 8:54Speaker 2: that does bother me though, is kind of a lack
- 8:56Speaker 2: of a true number two wide receiver. Calvin Alston had
- 9:00Speaker 2: been playing that role quite well until he got injured.
- 9:02Speaker 2: He got injured in Dublin unfortunately, and had you know,
- 9:04Speaker 2: has to work his way back in there. But aside
- 9:07Speaker 2: from from calvan Os, we don't really have anyone who
- 9:10Speaker 2: stepped up as a true number two wide receiver. Obviously,
- 9:13Speaker 2: DK is our number one that I think that's why
- 9:15Speaker 2: we've we've seen the tight ends get more involved in
- 9:17Speaker 2: the passing game is due to the lack of a
- 9:20Speaker 2: number two receiver. So fair play to Jonny Smith for
- 9:22Speaker 2: stepping a path for iron moves last week two touchdowns.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Even Darnell Washington. I love seeing Mount Washington get involved
- 9:28Speaker 2: in the offense and catching touchdown passes. I mean, there's
- 9:31Speaker 2: not a single man in the NFL who can guard
- 9:33Speaker 2: Darnell Washington right now.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Let's see what happens with the trade deadline ConA. It
- 9:38Speaker 1: could be very very interesting. We're going to talk about
- 9:40Speaker 1: this Packers game on Sunday Night Football in a little second.
- 9:43Speaker 1: We're firstly going to hear from coach Tomlin here on
- 9:45Speaker 1: the I Receivers Podcast presented by Eric Lingush.
- 9:49Speaker 3: We're really excited about Staurday Night football and act sure
- 9:52Speaker 3: versus Green Bay. But as as always, I'll start with
- 9:56Speaker 3: a quick review of our last performance, although it feels
- 9:58Speaker 3: a little stale ahead and had an opportunity to visit
- 10:01Speaker 3: with you guys since, as I mentioned after the game,
- 10:05Speaker 3: a couple you know, building blocks of of the engineering
- 10:09Speaker 3: the victory man that that we didn't take care of,
- 10:12Speaker 3: and I think that's why the game unfolded the way
- 10:14Speaker 3: that it did for us. We got to stop the
- 10:18Speaker 3: run more effectively we built. We feel like that's a
- 10:21Speaker 3: building block for us to play good defense, to get
- 10:25Speaker 3: offenses and more one dimensional pass and circumstances to get
- 10:29Speaker 3: people in more advantageous possession down circumstances for us. Our
- 10:33Speaker 3: inability to stop the run I think created that and
- 10:37Speaker 3: that was an issue for us. It really started kind
- 10:40Speaker 3: of in the second quarter when Brown popped a couple
- 10:43Speaker 3: of runs and it kind of went on from there.
- 10:45Speaker 3: It never felt like we had an opportunity to stabilize
- 10:48Speaker 3: that component of the game. We have been trending the
- 10:51Speaker 3: right way in that space for a number of weeks,
- 10:53Speaker 3: but certainly last week was a setback in that area,
- 10:56Speaker 3: and I really think it it created an environment where
- 10:59Speaker 3: we weren't trolling the game. From that perspective, I think
- 11:02Speaker 3: the same could be said on the offensive side. We
- 11:06Speaker 3: turned the ball over twice, and really that hadn't bid us.
- 11:10Speaker 3: We've been really good at protecting and preserving the football,
- 11:13Speaker 3: but if you get a couple of turnovers and you're
- 11:15Speaker 3: not stopping and run, that's just not a good posture
- 11:17Speaker 3: to play from. We certainly didn't take the ball away,
- 11:20Speaker 3: and so to be minus two in a hostile place
- 11:25Speaker 3: while not stopping and run, man, it's kind of a
- 11:27Speaker 3: catalyst for losing. You couple that with the fact that
- 11:31Speaker 3: we were highly penalized and had some significant penalties. I
- 11:35Speaker 3: thought the false start on fourth and one when we
- 11:37Speaker 3: were in the red area was a four point like penalty,
- 11:41Speaker 3: and in games like that, man, you just can't afford
- 11:43Speaker 3: to have them. The ability to execute in that space
- 11:46Speaker 3: in the red zone is significant, whether it's defensively in
- 11:50Speaker 3: terms of getting stops or offensively finishing. And I think
- 11:55Speaker 3: in the midst of that, when we got that false
- 11:56Speaker 3: start and had to settle for a field goal, that
- 11:59Speaker 3: was significant it as well. And so you know, my
- 12:02Speaker 3: perspective is things were going well until they weren't. We
- 12:05Speaker 3: played about a good quarter of football, and then we
- 12:08Speaker 3: didn't do a good enough job stopping run, of preserving
- 12:11Speaker 3: and protecting the ball. We got highly penalized and it
- 12:14Speaker 3: made it an uphill battle from there. I will say
- 12:18Speaker 3: I was really appreciative of the effort. I thought the
- 12:21Speaker 3: guys fought their tails off. Man. We made some plays,
- 12:24Speaker 3: certainly on offense. I thought we had a necessary stop
- 12:29Speaker 3: on defense there with about five or six minutes to
- 12:32Speaker 3: go in the game to give us another shot at it.
- 12:35Speaker 3: And so you know, just as a collective man, I
- 12:38Speaker 3: thought they fought, particularly in less than ideal circumstances. But
- 12:43Speaker 3: certainly we came up short and there's some lessons to
- 12:47Speaker 3: be learned from that. As we move into this week,
- 12:50Speaker 3: I'll quickly talk about some injury things. Calvin Alston is
- 12:55Speaker 3: scheduled to work this week. We'll let his participation in
- 12:59Speaker 3: the court. That participation be our guide in terms of
- 13:02Speaker 3: his availability. As we stand here today, we're optimistic and
- 13:06Speaker 3: I know certainly he's optimistic about his ability to be included.
- 13:10Speaker 3: We had some bumps and bruises associated with play, but
- 13:14Speaker 3: after a long weekend of rehabilitation, I doubt any of
- 13:17Speaker 3: those are are significant in terms of limiting someone's availability.
- 13:23Speaker 3: It may limit the availability at the top of the week.
- 13:26Speaker 3: We'll have some veteran players and things of that nature
- 13:29Speaker 3: that will minimize a little bit tomorrow, but as we
- 13:32Speaker 3: lean in on this game, I don't expect any of
- 13:35Speaker 3: those things to kind of be an issue.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Good to hear from coach Tomlin and joined obviously with
- 13:40Speaker 1: Jimmy here as well. Jimmy, before we talk about the
- 13:43Speaker 1: game itself in terms of the axis, nose and stuff,
- 13:46Speaker 1: something that people are going to see first off, Like
- 13:48Speaker 1: for people that are at home, this is one of
- 13:50Speaker 1: the best weekends of the year. The clocks change. This
- 13:53Speaker 1: game kicks off at twenty past twelve on Sunday night,
- 13:57Speaker 1: so if you're feeling a little bit wheezy in terms
- 13:59Speaker 1: of coffee, it's class so very very good, get on it.
- 14:03Speaker 1: It's gonna be a good night. I actually watched the
- 14:06Speaker 1: Monday night football game, the first one on Monday last
- 14:09Speaker 1: week because it started earlier. Definitely helps us fans over
- 14:12Speaker 1: here for sure. In terms of the game itself. Steelers Jimmy,
- 14:17Speaker 1: as you're well aware, but some people might not be
- 14:18Speaker 1: on this podcast, they're wearing their nineteen thirty three showback
- 14:22Speaker 1: uniforms for the game. A uniform in the past trip
- 14:25Speaker 1: not just the thirty three team and where it began
- 14:27Speaker 1: for the team, but also the rich legacy of the
- 14:29Speaker 1: city of Pittsburgh. It's a gold flowback jersey featuring black
- 14:33Speaker 1: stripes with large white block letters trimmed and black on
- 14:36Speaker 1: the front. The front will also prominently feature the city
- 14:39Speaker 1: of Pittsburgh crest on the left shoulder, honor the team's
- 14:42Speaker 1: connection to the city, while the back of the jersey
- 14:45Speaker 1: has got large black block numbers with a gold map
- 14:48Speaker 1: finish on the helmet. As a true Steeters fan, Jimmy,
- 14:52Speaker 1: what is your thoughts on this uniform and are you
- 14:54Speaker 1: excited to see it on primetime on Sunday nights last
- 14:57Speaker 1: Monday morning.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I love the tribute pays to teams of Steelers teams
- 15:02Speaker 2: of the years gone by into the city of Pittsburgh.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Anyone who knows me knows that I never should have
- 15:07Speaker 2: about Pittsburgh. I love that city, So in terms of that,
- 15:10Speaker 2: I do, you know, kind of respect where it's coming from.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I think in comparison to some of the other throwback
- 15:16Speaker 2: uniforms that teams are now breaking out, it kind of
- 15:18Speaker 2: falls down a little bit. But look, Steers have always
- 15:21Speaker 2: done things traditionally, so I can accept that. I'm still
- 15:25Speaker 2: torn as to whether I'm going to invest in one.
- 15:27Speaker 2: When I'm over in the pro shop, I know I'll
- 15:30Speaker 2: be spending quite a lot of money in that place
- 15:32Speaker 2: next weekend. The helmet, I do look the helmet. I've
- 15:34Speaker 2: always been a big proponent of the yellow helmet. I
- 15:37Speaker 2: think it's just such a cool little twist, and the
- 15:40Speaker 2: Steelers haven't busted it out now in quite a few years,
- 15:43Speaker 2: so it will be nice to see that. And of
- 15:46Speaker 2: course you have the kind of the tan mustard pans.
- 15:48Speaker 2: So look, overall, if I was to give it a
- 15:51Speaker 2: number rating of probably is seven seven and a half
- 15:55Speaker 2: out a ten, to be honest with you. But look,
- 15:58Speaker 2: it is a nice kind of tribute to the rich
- 16:00Speaker 2: history of the city. So looking forward to seeing the
- 16:02Speaker 2: inaction on Sunday night.
- 16:05Speaker 1: When I think of the throwbacks, I immasiately think of
- 16:07Speaker 1: Big Ben and the bumblebee and like the stripes, and
- 16:10Speaker 1: that's that's definitely up there for me with any jersey,
- 16:13Speaker 1: I know, that's like a real love hit one for
- 16:15Speaker 1: people that maybe are Steeers fan. I think it's one
- 16:17Speaker 1: of the best jerseys. I love the City of Pittsburgh
- 16:22Speaker 1: badge that's on the front of the jersey, and I
- 16:24Speaker 1: think it'd be interesting, like, yeah, I'm one of the
- 16:25Speaker 1: guys I like the jersey. I'm not sure on the
- 16:28Speaker 1: brown pants, but I feel like whenever he was up
- 16:30Speaker 1: against the white of Green Bay, we will see another
- 16:33Speaker 1: element to this. We're gonna see irishman Daniel Wheelan go
- 16:36Speaker 1: up against the Steelers, so we're gonna, you know, almost
- 16:39Speaker 1: have to weave the fly pre game and hope that
- 16:41Speaker 1: he doesn't have a great game in that sense. But
- 16:44Speaker 1: I think for any Steelers fans listening that they know
- 16:46Speaker 1: he's a serious, serious lay and I know, you know
- 16:49Speaker 1: as much as anybody about how much of it for
- 16:50Speaker 1: that he's being not just a season but down for
- 16:52Speaker 1: the last couple of years.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, Don is playing end of his mind right
- 16:56Speaker 2: now and the Packers have rewarded him. It's well justified
- 17:00Speaker 2: contract extension there earlier in the season, so look, love
- 17:03Speaker 2: to see him doing doing his thing and great to
- 17:06Speaker 2: see some Irish representation in the league and he's flying
- 17:09Speaker 2: the flag for Ireland over there. I will say that
- 17:12Speaker 2: that key Sean Williams, our newer term man is dangerous
- 17:14Speaker 2: as well, so I think he will give the Packers
- 17:18Speaker 2: punt coverage team and kick coverage team some trouble. He
- 17:21Speaker 2: hasn't broken one loose as of yet, but I do
- 17:23Speaker 2: feel like it's coming, especially with the new dynamic kickoff
- 17:26Speaker 2: rules in effect, so keep an eye on him. But look,
- 17:30Speaker 2: it's always it's always fun watching down we didn't play
- 17:33Speaker 2: because you just know he's gonna rip a massive rocket
- 17:36Speaker 2: of a point every time he puts boot the ball.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Okay, before we give our keys to the game and
- 17:40Speaker 1: give a pick and we're gonna hear from Patrick Quin
- 17:43Speaker 1: and Troy Fantano as well here on the Irishitters podcast
- 17:46Speaker 1: presented by Erling's ahead of this big Sunday night football matchup.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Yeah, but we definitely, we definitely, we're definitely trending in
- 17:54Speaker 4: the right direction. You've got to keep going there, keep
- 17:56Speaker 4: playing as a unit. With a young team like us,
- 17:59Speaker 4: I feel like it gives a boost of confidence just
- 18:02Speaker 4: knowing you got eight back there and he's calling the shots.
- 18:05Speaker 4: You know, he's making sure everybody's right. You know, he's
- 18:08Speaker 4: just he's just a shot caller. And it's a big
- 18:12Speaker 4: help for me definitely knowing that he's back there because
- 18:15Speaker 4: I know he's going to control what needs to be
- 18:16Speaker 4: controlled on the field when it needs to be done. So,
- 18:20Speaker 4: you know, it just gives me, well I can say
- 18:22Speaker 4: for me, it gives me confidence to go out there
- 18:24Speaker 4: and play for him, you know.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Not how much do you embrace protecting him specifically this
- 18:31Speaker 2: week he's going to be a big storyline facing the
- 18:33Speaker 2: Packers much.
- 18:33Speaker 4: So, man, Yeah, we gotta We just got to continue
- 18:37Speaker 4: to keep on up right. I feel like though Lione
- 18:39Speaker 4: did their job doing that last week. Like I said,
- 18:42Speaker 4: we just got to continue to trend in the right direction,
- 18:44Speaker 4: you know, just keep on up right and keeping helpy.
- 18:46Speaker 5: I'll see what's the temperature right now?
- 18:47Speaker 3: You gots frustrated, surprise, pissed off.
- 18:51Speaker 5: I think it's NFL. You know, sometimes it happens even
- 18:55Speaker 5: though you don't want it to, and sometimes it's ugly,
- 18:57Speaker 5: but at the end of the day, it's the NFL.
- 18:58Speaker 5: They get paid to play, get paid the coach, and
- 19:02Speaker 5: you know, we just got to make the place. We
- 19:03Speaker 5: got our there, We got to execute better. Just you know,
- 19:06Speaker 5: when the moment's there, make it play whatever it is
- 19:08Speaker 5: the opportunity best as the hole. Just being better. He's
- 19:11Speaker 5: from the small details, from whatever it may be, coverage wise,
- 19:15Speaker 5: when field wise, whatever.
- 19:16Speaker 1: It may be, his game better. Great to hear from
- 19:18Speaker 1: the guys. And we've got an absolutely massive game coming
- 19:21Speaker 1: up on Sunday Night football. Jimmy, Look, we all know
- 19:24Speaker 1: one of the biggest storylines here Rogers. Aran Rodgers spent
- 19:27Speaker 1: eighteen years of his career in Green Bay between two
- 19:29Speaker 1: thousand and five and twenty twenty two. Went to the Jets,
- 19:33Speaker 1: didn't work out, Sedars take u punt on them, and
- 19:35Speaker 1: so far looks very very good. Obviously starting for and one,
- 19:38Speaker 1: started losing the Cincinnati, but as you said at the
- 19:41Speaker 1: start of this podcast, Seay're still in the first place
- 19:43Speaker 1: in the AFC North Packers. One of the biggest moves
- 19:46Speaker 1: they have obviously made in the off seasons bringing them
- 19:48Speaker 1: Micah Parsons. He's leading the defense. He had three sacks
- 19:51Speaker 1: last week against Arizona. Packers are four one and one,
- 19:56Speaker 1: and one of just two teams with just one loss
- 19:58Speaker 1: this season. I think for a neutral this has the
- 20:02Speaker 1: potential to be a classic. There's no point in saying
- 20:05Speaker 1: it's one of the standout matches not just of the
- 20:07Speaker 1: weekend and we of the season, but for Steelers fans,
- 20:10Speaker 1: this is a game where you're gonna feel about Nervey,
- 20:13Speaker 1: especially after the first night football game. There's no point
- 20:15Speaker 1: in pussy footing around that it's gonna be Nervey. But
- 20:18Speaker 1: I think for a football fan, first and foremost, two
- 20:20Speaker 1: iconic franchises, two of the best teams in NFL history
- 20:25Speaker 1: in terms of accolades and in terms of their heritage.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I can't wait for this game. How do you feel
- 20:32Speaker 1: going into it? Are you? Are you confident? What do
- 20:34Speaker 1: you expect? I think we're gonna find a very very
- 20:36Speaker 1: tough matchup on both sides of the ball, But I
- 20:39Speaker 1: really feel like both defenses are gonna come wuite hot.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a truly stark game, Michael. I mean you
- 20:44Speaker 2: think about the rich history of both these teams to
- 20:47Speaker 2: the oldest NFL franchises too, of the most I suppose
- 20:50Speaker 2: respected our revered teams in the league. You can't shy
- 20:54Speaker 2: away from the whole Rogers revenge storyline. I think this
- 20:57Speaker 2: is a big against something like football, primetime football. It's
- 21:02Speaker 2: Football Night in America. You know, the entire country is
- 21:05Speaker 2: going to be tuned into NBC in America of course
- 21:09Speaker 2: to watch to watch this game. And I just think
- 21:12Speaker 2: this could be a season defining game for the Steelers,
- 21:15Speaker 2: for both franchise, particularly for the Steeters. I mean, this
- 21:19Speaker 2: game has been circled on the calendar since that, since
- 21:21Speaker 2: the schedule came out back back in the summer. So
- 21:26Speaker 2: it's going to be an absolutely massive occasion and it
- 21:29Speaker 2: definitely is mustling for the Steelers. I am look, you
- 21:33Speaker 2: know me, I'm an optimist at Harder, I always try
- 21:36Speaker 2: to be an optimist. I am cautiously optimistic. I think
- 21:38Speaker 2: if the defense can pull its socks up and get
- 21:41Speaker 2: back to the way it was trending before that what
- 21:46Speaker 2: happened in Cincinnati, I think we have a good shot.
- 21:49Speaker 2: You know, everyone has to dial in on defense, obviously,
- 21:52Speaker 2: Aaron Aaron Jones, Sorry not Aaron Jones. Josh Jacobs is
- 21:55Speaker 2: one of the best running backs in the league. Keeping
- 21:59Speaker 2: him contained is going to be key. So the offense
- 22:01Speaker 2: just needs offense just needs to be explosive, and defense
- 22:04Speaker 2: just needs to hustle to the ball, shut down the receiver,
- 22:07Speaker 2: shut down running lanes, get to Jordan Love and look
- 22:10Speaker 2: we have a bit of luck along the way as well.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Here's fully you imagine, but look, it definitely is. It's
- 22:17Speaker 1: going to take a lot of Look, I think for
- 22:18Speaker 1: either team on Sunday to get out of there, will
- 22:20Speaker 1: when I could see this game going the distance to
- 22:22Speaker 1: be redly honestly in terms of yeah, I wouldn't even
- 22:25Speaker 1: be surprised if there's overtime. And obviously if people listening
- 22:27Speaker 1: to this, obviously both teams met in twenty ten in
- 22:31Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. We all know what I.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Likes about back game, Michael. To be honest, yes, remember
- 22:37Speaker 2: where I was two o'clock in the morning in a
- 22:40Speaker 2: pub and drawna watching that game, and hopefully they will,
- 22:43Speaker 2: hopefully we can exercise some of those demons on Sunday night.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Second game. It sounds madd now sixteen or fifteen years
- 22:50Speaker 1: on saying this second game I ever watched and then
- 22:53Speaker 1: I got into the season after, which is absolutely mental.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But I remember that like it was yesterday, and I
- 22:58Speaker 1: fully agree with you when you're talking there, But Josh
- 22:59Speaker 1: you he scored two Russian touchdowns in the Packers three
- 23:03Speaker 1: previous games. I really like what we've seen with friar
- 23:08Speaker 1: Muth against the Bengals, and frankly, I feel like Pittsburgh
- 23:11Speaker 1: because they're jumping the ball out and a dishing the
- 23:12Speaker 1: ball out to numerous people. That Packers defense is going
- 23:16Speaker 1: to find it hard to keep on everybody, and that's
- 23:18Speaker 1: going to be a massive factor in this game. If
- 23:20Speaker 1: Rogers can remain confident and he is allowed to get
- 23:24Speaker 1: the ball down the field, I think we're going to
- 23:26Speaker 1: see a Steeler respectree. But I am going to say,
- 23:28Speaker 1: you're gonna laugh at me now right remember this on
- 23:31Speaker 1: Monday morning for people listening, thirty seven thirty four in
- 23:35Speaker 1: an all time classic to the Steelers. Do you want
- 23:38Speaker 1: to give a prediction before we go.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Here as a high scoring game? I mean, look to me,
- 23:42Speaker 2: the big thing here, obviously, apart from what I mentioned
- 23:45Speaker 2: about the defense having a better game, is we need
- 23:48Speaker 2: we need to stop Micro Parrison instead in his track.
- 23:50Speaker 2: That offensive line needs to keep Aaron Rodgers upright. He
- 23:53Speaker 2: hasn't been sacked against the Browns. He wasn't sacked against
- 23:55Speaker 2: the Bengals unless you can't Broder Jones a sneak attack
- 23:59Speaker 2: from the back, so he had to keep Aaron Rodgers upright,
- 24:03Speaker 2: keeping fire and missiles. Pat Fryer move has to have
- 24:05Speaker 2: another big game because he effectively could be our number
- 24:08Speaker 2: two receiver for the rest of the season, and he
- 24:10Speaker 2: could have actually saved his job in Pittsburgh with that
- 24:13Speaker 2: performance against the Bengals last Thursday. And I am going
- 24:16Speaker 2: to go with a Steels win because I do I
- 24:18Speaker 2: can't pick against the Black and goals, you know, I'm
- 24:20Speaker 2: just physically incapable of that. I'm gonna slightly more conservative
- 24:24Speaker 2: score a right to be speaking. I do think it'd
- 24:26Speaker 2: come right down to the wire. I do think it'd
- 24:28Speaker 2: come right down to a Chris Boswell field goal. And
- 24:31Speaker 2: I do have the Steelers winning this one thirty one
- 24:34Speaker 2: to twenty eight. As the crock expires in the fourth quarter.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Well, I will say if that is the case, at
- 24:41Speaker 1: least we're both in the thirties out. If his score
- 24:43Speaker 1: more than thirty points, again, I'll be a happy man.
- 24:45Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. Pig. Thanks to everybody listening to
- 24:48Speaker 1: the podcast ed. Just a reminder, this game is on
- 24:50Speaker 1: sky Sports NFL in Ireland and it's I can also
- 24:53Speaker 1: be listening to an off the ball radio twenty past twelve.
- 24:57Speaker 1: You've got one hour earlier this week Football Night in
- 24:59Speaker 1: America around eleven or so. Then you can tune into
- 25:01Speaker 1: that on the game on sky Sports Jimmy obviously, if
- 25:04Speaker 1: not Shatton the in the meantime, see if travels out
- 25:06Speaker 1: to watch the game against the Colts. You picked an
- 25:08Speaker 1: absolute doozy of a game there, And if we don't
- 25:11Speaker 1: get you on beforehand, we will bring you on after
- 25:14Speaker 1: the break of downer when we talk about it. How
- 25:15Speaker 1: long you in the.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Silver So we get in. We get in on Halloween.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Actually we land on Thursday night at midnight, so we're
- 25:23Speaker 2: there for four full days starting Halloween right until the Tuesday.
- 25:27Speaker 2: We decided to go for the extra day just to
- 25:30Speaker 2: have some time after the game to unwind, maybe cast
- 25:32Speaker 2: from Monday Night Football. And you know, it's actually funny
- 25:34Speaker 2: because before the season started, this Coast game was looking
- 25:37Speaker 2: like it should be, you know, a pretty handy game
- 25:39Speaker 2: for the Steelers, and then Daniel Jones and co. There
- 25:44Speaker 2: started winning and now one of the best teams in
- 25:46Speaker 2: the league.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So the conversations as well.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I'm actually more worried about the Coast game, Michael, than
- 25:51Speaker 2: I about the Packers game, to be perfectly honest with you,
- 25:54Speaker 2: because I think Jonathan Taylor and Daniel Jones are going
- 25:57Speaker 2: to give us fits and acer sure, but look, we're
- 25:59Speaker 2: going to have the crack. It's it's never a bad
- 26:01Speaker 2: time in Pittsburgh. So very much looking forward to that
- 26:04Speaker 2: and the catching up with everyone. So if you are
- 26:06Speaker 2: going to be around, look give me a shout and
- 26:09Speaker 2: we will. We'll have some crack big time.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Definitely do that and we'll chat maybe after the game
- 26:15Speaker 1: as well before you jump on the plane, especially if
- 26:17Speaker 1: they win the game. And one week at a time, folks,
- 26:19Speaker 1: one week at a time for now, for myself and Jimmy,
- 26:22Speaker 1: thanks for listening. We will chat you Si
