- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:30coop. So today we're talking about
- 0:32outgrowing things. And I'm not talking about
- 0:34clothes, although that does happen as well, and it's
- 0:37something that needs to be discussed sometimes when we have
- 0:40to get rid of old clothes if we don't like to.
- 0:42But right now we're talking about outgrowing things in our
- 0:44life and just deciding to say, hey, you know what, I've
- 0:48outgrown that. So what prompted this
- 0:50conversation? So I've been working on a new
- 0:53studio where I can record classes.
- 0:56That are not like from the chicken coop actual classes and
- 1:01it has just taken a lot longer than we thought to finish.
- 1:04But it's finally done very excited about it and I can get
- 1:08to move in hopefully over the course of the next week and I'm
- 1:14deciding what I'm taking in there.
- 1:15And I made it a point to tell myself that in the during the
- 1:18process of this whole build that I wanted it to have a real
- 1:21magical feel, like it was important to me to have it be a
- 1:24place that I felt. Completely and totally connected
- 1:27to that. I could go in and I would feel
- 1:30just in this very specific state, because if I'm teaching
- 1:33and recording and I'm doing work in there and I'm writing, I have
- 1:36to feel in a really good state being in there.
- 1:39So it got me to thinking as I was getting ready to start
- 1:42moving a few things over while they're just finishing up the
- 1:46last little doodads and things, you know, what do I want to take
- 1:49in there? And it all started with the
- 1:51books. So we all have a lot of books.
- 1:53Well, at least most of the people that I hang around with
- 1:56has a lot, have a lot of books and I have an abundance of
- 2:00books. And I have a really hard time
- 2:02getting rid of books, especially ones that are meaningful to me
- 2:06like that have highlights in them and things that I have
- 2:10studied in. And just trying, you know, to be
- 2:13very thoughtful about it all. I said to myself, okay, I'm
- 2:17really going to look and I'm really going to see if there are
- 2:20books that I really want to keep or should I?
- 2:23You know, get rid of some of these books.
- 2:25And I made the decision that I was going to sit and go through
- 2:30each and every book, and I was going to make a decision about
- 2:33each and every book. And amazingly, I got rid of a
- 2:37lot of gardening books because I felt like I had outgrown the
- 2:41books. Like I was like, okay, This is
- 2:43not serving me anymore. This does not.
- 2:46Work for where I am. I had books from when I grew up
- 2:49up north. I had books that were up, you
- 2:52know, very different than things that are put out now that are
- 2:55much older but just don't serve me anymore.
- 2:59And so I sat with each book and I was like, OK, I'm going to
- 3:02make the decision to donate this and I'm going to give this to
- 3:04somebody else that can possibly get some joy from it.
- 3:08Does it bring me the high level level of joy I want now?
- 3:11No. And.
- 3:14At first it started off and it was a very difficult process
- 3:17because I was making decision by decision and I moved on to other
- 3:21things, art supplies, things that I have had and towed it
- 3:25around with me for years. And I'm like, why am I bringing
- 3:29this with me? Like, for instance doing
- 3:32beating. I don't do beating anymore.
- 3:34It's not something that I do and I'm not going to do it again.
- 3:38I can. I already know that.
- 3:39I look at it and I'm like. This just seems tedious to me.
- 3:42It does not seem like something that I'm going to want to thrive
- 3:45with, so it does not bring me joy.
- 3:47Therefore, I'm going to eliminate it and then donate it.
- 3:51I'm going to give it away and looking at the pile of things
- 3:56that I came up with and I'm just like, OK, The the moving past,
- 4:01the fact that it's beyond just purging and getting rid of
- 4:04things, it's really comes down to.
- 4:07Being very aware of the fact that I am outgrowing things, I
- 4:11am definitely outgrowing stuff and I'm okay with that.
- 4:15And it made me feel really good and on point that I was able to
- 4:19distinguish with myself that I in fact was outgrowing
- 4:23something. And that I could admit that to
- 4:25myself, that I could let it go. And some things that I had just
- 4:30said, OKI got it. I thought I would do it.
- 4:32I didn't do it like a big giant block of clay.
- 4:35I was like, I'm going to work with clay.
- 4:37But the truth is, unless you go to a studio to do it and you
- 4:40have a spinning wheel and you have all the other stuff, it's
- 4:42highly unlikely that you're going to do it.
- 4:44So I was just like, you know what?
- 4:46I'm going to let the kids have this.
- 4:47I'm just going to move on with it.
- 4:49And the process was. Just liberating to say the
- 4:54least. And I can sit here and say I
- 4:57was, I have released the things that I have outgrown.
- 5:00And sometimes that's stuff, sometimes that's places you go,
- 5:05sometimes that's people. But looking at it and saying,
- 5:09you know what, I've just don't grown this, this doesn't fulfill
- 5:11me anymore, is a process that really is.
- 5:16Liberating, enlightening and just freeing on every level.
- 5:19So I hope this gives you some food for thought.
- 5:22I hope you figure out what you've outgrown and I hope you
- 5:24liberate yourself and have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:28tomorrow. Bye.
